I live near Longhorn Cafe and really craved a good Chicken Fried Steak and thought I'd try it here. What a mistake - it looked like school cafeteria CFS, the battered crust peeled off the steak and the steak did not look fresh, but frozen. My husband had the hickory Chicken sandwich and liked it (but would have liked more hickory flavor), but his Tator Tots were THE BEST!! They were super-crispy and not mushy like most tots are! In summary, yes on the 'wiches and tots, and Just Say No to the CFS!! Yuk!

Longhorn Cafe as I remember it was an old school burger joint (Texas Style) up on the North Side of San Antonio on Blanco and 1604. Since I moved away 7 years ago, there are now 5 locations so I'm told. Today I went to the one on Harry Wurzbach which was newer and more modern than the aforementioned one. Burgers are awesome, onion rings awesome, tater tots awesome.... A must do if you're in the mood for an artery clogging delight....Cheers!!

best cheap steak house in SA, AND the best angus burger ever

I asked our friends, who live in San Antonio, what the best burger place in town was and they took us to this place. They truly were delicious! We would definitely come again next time we're in town.

The location at Blanco and 1604 has a party room that u can reserve. I do not recommend it!! The food was AWESOME - the service was Good but the room was not in any condition for hosting a party. The bathrooms were worse than a port-a-potty. The soda dispenser was not working so we had to leave the room, go outside enter the restaurant stand in line AGAIN just to refill our drinks. It smelled like a horse barn and the A/C did not cool off the room. What was supposed to be a joyous time ended in much disappointment.

The Angus Hamburger is the best hamburger. It's a large hamburger and cooked to order. I ordered the 1/2 & 1/2 side dish (half fries & half onion rings) enough for 2 people. Delicious food!

Their juicy burgers with cheese are the best! The buns are super fresh and the burgers have lots of lettuce & tomato just like I love. The half & half order of tater tots & onion rings is huge. Onion rings were lightly seasoned & delicious. Their prices are pretty cheap compared to other places. We love, love this place when we're in the area & craving delicious burgers!

I visited Longhorn Cafe on Blanco with my Family for a Sunday lunch in January. The place was busy and the staff friendly. The menu variety was good as well. However, that's about where it ends for my wife and I. We found the food to be average at best and most things were a-la carte (meaning you had to buy fries and drink to go with your burger – no package deal). . I can get a much better burger meal for the same price at a number of other locations such as Red Robin, Sam's Burger Joint, Timbos, EZ's. All of them beat out Longhorn for a good burger, fries and drink. We all had burgers and fries and drinks and the food overall was unremarkable. Honestly, I could have gone to BJ's, Chili's or even Luciano's for a nice Italian meal for what we paid (Approximately $35 for two adults and two children under 5 - no alcoholic drinks). This isn't to say the food was cooked poorly, it just wasn't anything to write home about especially for what we paid. The restaurant was NOT particularly clean and appeared like little cash had been invested after the initial building of the place. Old television in the corner, sticky floor, greasy walls. Everything needed a good degreasing and scrubbing down. Honestly I could have overlooked the general appearance and cleanliness if the food had been great but that simply wasn’t the case. We wanted to like the Longhorn Cafe as we prefer to give our money to local restaurants rather than chains, but after the price, food quality and overall cleanliness we determined it wasn't worth returning. Our overall impression was this place might have been fantastic at one time, but it was certainly living off the quality people remembered, not the quality it currently maintains.

An institution in San Antonio. Opened a second location on I-10 a few years back-the original still on Blanco. This is where you go for a big ol cheeseburger with homemade fries. You stand in line & place your order then find your own table. Has some outdoor picnic table seating as well. They have other things like grilled cheese sandwich & some salads but definitely known for their juicy burgers.

We have not eaten here in years, but that will change. We had a family gathering here and some very good sandwiches. We had a double “Big Juicy”, single “Big Juicy, and a Fish Sandwich, both great. The tots, fried pickles, and onion rings were good as well, but basic fare. We will definitely be back, but maybe just a single “Big Juicy" for me...

I've only been to this Longhorn cafe once, but I would have to admit that this is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio. The food is always delicious, the staff is always friendly, the restaurant is always clean and it's just great.

This place could hurt you if you order too much...but its all so good. Simple burgers, onion rings, tots, fried mushrooms....but fresh!!! Laid back joint and great value.

We have been eating hamburgers here for 25+ yrs and have always been delicious. In the last year or so the meat pattie has gotten smaller and tougher. It no linger has that old fashion beef taste and smell when its cooking. It appears they have changed their patties. We wish they would bring back their original flavor of the pattie

Our first visit! We were next door at the Agave Ranch looking at some fabulous rustic furniture when they told us about the place next door, since we were going to lunch. We both had the chicken fried steak, mash potatos, gravy on the side and fried okra. It was delicious! First CFS I've ever had that I could cut with my fork. My next visit will be a burger and onion rings. They looked so yummy today. We were told this place has been there for years and years and years...so that tells me, they are consistent with their food and everyone loves it. I know we did!

Great burgers probably one of the best in town. Always friendly service and quick to get your order out.

These burgers are big and very good! Onion rings were fair but fries were just okay. Wish they would make their own fries and onion rings as it would make the burger experience even better. Not fancy at all but there's a decent patio with a small play area for younger children. There aren't many tables so it can fill up quickly when it's busy. Definitely worth the trip.

The Longhorn Cafe serves one of the best burgers in San Antonio. I really enjoyed their Cheeseburger combo. Their burgers compete side by side with Chris Madrid's and Hopdaddy.

We have eaten at the Blanco rd location for years and revisited (havent been to this location in at least four years)last week during Spring Break. We were unpleasantly surprised by the dirty feel that location has. The tables and floors were dirty and no one wanted to sit by the dirty wall. When we got our food it was extremely greasy. My sons burgers bun was topped with a layer of grease and the basket of fried pickles was swimming in grease. I know there is grease used in frying things and in burgers but this was very heavy grease. We go to the Leon Springs location about once a month and even went on Saturday and no grease!! The tables were clean food delicious and even the game area was updated. We love Leon Springs Longhorn but won't go back to the Blanco location.

I was craving chicken fried steak . So I decided to come here . Bleh . The staff is incredibly friendly . They were out of clean forks . Had to get one from the kitchen . My fries were soggy . I asked for fresh fries which I received immediately. The chicken fried steak was bland . The gravy was decent . Would I come back here . No

This is a very laid back little restaurant. Order your food, pay and wait for them to call your name. Picnic tables fill the place and it's very casual almost like being at home. The burgers are excellent. I had the Cheddar Burger....very tasty with lots of veggies. The onion rings are delicious and not heavily fried. I recommend this for families looking for something good and tasty but affordable where kids fit right in.

I was looking for a good old-fashioned juicy burger with great flavor and got just what I was looking for! Our group of four ordered fried pickles as an appetizer, burgers all around, and shared a single order of mixed fries and rings. The burgers were big and juicy and the sides were hearty in size. We were plenty satisfied by the time we finished our meal and left nothing behind because everything was so-o-o good! There was a constant stream of people coming into the place, so you could tell this was a popular place among the locals. Definitely on my list to return next time I'm in town!

Best burger I’ve had in San Antonio. Lettuce, tomatoes, and onion are very fresh. Buns are better than most and toasted. Meat is seasoned nicely, reminds me of Freddy’s Burgers. My dad requested no mustard, but they put it on anyway, but he wasn’t too upset because they didn’t put a lot of mustard on it. The bottled Frosty root beer was not cold enough.

Can not go wrong here, everything is good and at a great value, A San Antonio cafe at its best Lunch and dinner available

Great burger! I had the cheddar burger with bacon and tater tots. Both were great. The bun was toasted and tasty. A little bit much on the condiments and the lettuce was a bit older but still a great burger all in all. Will definitely return. One of better burgers I've had in a long time for sure!

Had lunch with wife and some friends - food was on spot. Had the cod and tots, Ya can't go wrong with this place. Show up early it can get pretty busy. The service was fast and friendly - John the MGR. Is a great guy. All the food is cooked to order so be patient its worth any wait.

First time being there and it was very packed for a small place. The food was great! Customer service needs some work. I would still go there again!

Short wait in line. Ordered the fish plate. Came with 2 sides. Picked Sweet Potato Fries and Green Beans. Both excellent. The green beans had some bacon in them. Tea very good. There are sliced lemons and limes to help yourself. The fish was Cod, 2 pieces fried. It was well prepared. Done but not dry.

Our friends (locals) took us here for lunch. A great change from burger chains. Fantastic jalapeño cheeseburger (and gluten free bun was available!) served with sweet potato "tater tots". Delicious!! My son had a chilli cheeseburger, also excellent. Free refills on sodas too. My favourite burger in Texas!

Get ready to stand in line for the best burger you will put in your mouth! When I'm in the mood for a good old fashioned hamburger and onion rings....nothing fancy about this place, but the long line tells you something about the food!

If your looking for a big juicy burger, go to Longhorn Cafe, they are big and very tasty. The have a variety of food from chicken fried stake to garden burgers. They also have $2.00 Zigenbock on draft plus other beers in coolers as you walk in. Hope you enjoy it as much as my family and friends do.

First time to this location. The food was excellent. Very nice outdoor patio. Great place for a burger and onion rings!

I don't get the rave reviews here. The burger and fries I had were pretty average, if that. Staff was ok, and yes a couple looked like they just got in from the tattoo parlor. The group I was with had the party room next door to the restaurant proper and frankly it wasn't clean. The floor needed to be mopped and there was tape and other detritus on the walls and tables which I assume was from a previous group and hadn't been cleaned up. The men's room wasn't the cleanest either. Chester's a couple of miles over off 281 is a much better, cleaner burger place and with better food. And no, I'm not affiliated with Chester's.

If you want a super big and good burger go there. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of beer choices. Looks like a "hole and the wall" but it will not disappoint.

Went here with the grandkids❤️❤️❤️ They love it! Fresh burgers, chicken, coke products, French fries, handmade onion rings, Oh my gosh I forgot about the huge basket of tater tots, cooked perfectly! Cold beers of choice and nice friendly people. Nice play area for the kiddos! We all enjoyed our burgers, wings, grilled chicken sandwiches...but the onion rings oh my they are the best! Check it out! You won't be disappointed! Picnic tables and booths to sit upon, even a few TV's scattered about.

Had a great linch today. The best deep fried cod ever. Hand battered and cooked to perfection. And the tots mmmmmm also had Queso and Chips. Service was super friendly and John the Gen. Mgr makes you feel your part of the family.

We go there about 1 - 2 times per month. Prices are a little on the high side. Service is so-so. We had to ask our server several times to bring items.

My wife and I had dinner at the Longhorn Café Friday (Sep. 22) evening. The last time I posted a review for this establishment was back in 2011. Since then, I have eaten here on a number of occasions. Having read a number of the more recent postings, I would like to make a few observations. Someone complained about how dirty the Longhorn was. In either June or July of this year (I don’t recall which), the health inspectors examined their facility and they were given a score of A/97 (100 is a perfect score.) Granted, it may not present the appearance of a 5-star restaurant, it is nevertheless clean and meets the very high standards of the San Antonio Health Department. When we arrived at approximately, 6:50 pm, there was a line back to the door. Needless to say, we were at the back of the line, however, it only took a few minutes to reach the order station. Considering what we ordered and the number of clientele being served, our order was ready for pickup within 15 minutes, which was very good. Our visit lasted for about an hour and the entire time we were there, the line extended to the door. When we left, the line was out into the parking lot. This is a very popular place to eat. And speaking of eating, hamburgers and onion rings are not their only expertise in food preparation. I had their chicken fried steak dinner with a corn on the cob, fries, and a dinner salad. Their steak was one of the best, I've had. It was large, hot, covered with copious amounts of gravy, and extremely tender. In fact, as one reviewer commented, I too was able to cut mine with a fork. Many “fast food” establishments only offer a half ear of corn. However, here you get a full ear and it was very good. The portion of fries was relatively large, hot, and fresh. As for the salad, it was a typical garden salad. It was fresh and cold. While it was very good, I would consider just a tad bit overpriced. I doubt that I will order one in the future. My wife had their chicken dinner with okra and mashed potatoes. The chicken was what I refer to as “a chicken with an attitude.” In other words, it was a little on the tough side. However, we have often purchased chicken from various grocery stores that was also tough so I won’t blame the Longhorn for that. The okra and potatoes were both great. As we were eating, I couldn’t help but see the burgers and onion rings that others had ordered (and remembered those that I have eaten in the past.) Sometimes, I envy cows with two stomachs. I kept thinking, “so much good food and so small of a stomach to put it.” Oh well, there is always the next time. One caveat in regards to my review – as I’ve mentioned in other reviews, everyone has different taste in food. What may be great for one may taste horrible to another and vice versa. Likewise, expense is also relative as is their expectations of ambiance. So, as you read not only this review but others as well, keep in mind that everyone’s taste is different. I highly recommend the Longhorn Café for quality food and an enjoyable time of not being rushed to eat and leave. We will most definitely be going back.

The burgers are hot, juicy, and fresh. The service was good. The onions rings and tater tots were served hot and fresh. So far this is the best burger in San Antonio. I will be back

Love the great homemade burgers. They won me over with the buns that are actually cooked with I am sure butter coating. The sides are great and large enough to get a couple and feed entire family. Love the fries and okra!

Super amazing food & service! Been there many times they never disappoint. The onion rings are fabulous & the burgers are tasty!

Gotta Luv the Best Burgers with Tater Tots, Onion Rings or french fries.....with Sweet Tea or and Icy Cold one

Okay burgers, not much else close.

really awesome hamburgers!!

Today, we returned to the Longhorn Cafe for lunch. We go there about once every couple of months and have been doing so for a number of years. As always, the food is great. Basically, it is a hamburger eating establishment but don't let that discourage you from going. Their menu is very large and the food is absolutely wonderful. The prices are a littler higher that what you will find at most of the chain hamburger establishments but the quality certainly makes up the difference. The onion rings are very large and cooked to perfection (at least for us). The only issue I have with them is their parking lot. However, it may not belong to them so I won't say much. Just be careful when you drive in and leave - you drive fast and you probably won't leave with your car in tact. As someone once said: "try it...you'll like it!!"

I fist visited the Longhorn Cafe about 30years ago, after my dad had picked me up and we stopped in. I have no recollection what I got way back then, but I do remember every time my dad and I drove by I asked him to stop so we could eat. Back then eating out was a privilege since we couldn't really afford to. My dad passed away a few years ago but I was back in town and decided to stop in. It's still delicious! I ordered the Bacon Cheese Burger with a half order of Onion Rings. If you get the chance to stop in I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed!

Cheeseburgers were large, toasted buns, plenty of veggies, fries and onion rings. Good sweet potato fries. And onion rings, battered in flour. If you are on 1604, it is less than half a mile off the highway. We were traveling through and it was well worth the small detour off the highway.

We ordered fried mushrooms and fried pickles to start with. It was really good. I ordered chicken fried chicken, with a side salad and fried okra. Hubby ordered chicken fried steak with mash potatoes and green beans. The green beans were a little salty but meat tasted so fresh, juicy and tender. The food was amazing and so delicious. I would definitely recommend the Longhorn Cafe.

large offering of burgers, sides or entree+2 sides ....all individually prepared to order; excellent wait staff; kid friendly

I’ve always had a hard time finding a good hamburger on Sunday since most of the ones I know are closed. I came here not knowing what to expect. Everywhere you go people say this is the best and this is the best and I get disappointed. I usually don’t like fries and I had yet to meet a hamburger that could fill me up. Today is the day I can say though I have found one of the best tasting hamburgers that filled me up and I was even able to enjoy more fries than usual. Chris Madrid is good but this one def has more flavor on their hamburgers and fries. I am truly impressed with their prices and with their food. I will def return here when I have another chance. Wish I would have tried sooner when i wasn’t limited to Sunday’s for cheat meals.

I like my burgers bleeding. This is the only place that doesn't try to talk me out of it or make them medium rare. I have included a photo of my onion rings which could stand up to my in your face rare burger. Get a jalapeno and you have a memory

The burgers were big and juicy. Really large enough for two. Meat done right and buns toasted. The onion rings could have been better. Seemed like they were battered and thrown in the fryer all at once and consequently were stuck together.

Sure they're greasy, but they sure are tasty. The tots may be the best I've ever had - crispy and golden.

We really like how big the space is with plenty of seating options inside and outside. The food is just as tasty and the service was very friendly. Our sweet potato tot serving was plentiful and the fried mushrooms were excellent! Our little one was a bit loud and excited, but in such a nice big area, she didn't bother anyone around us. We'll be back for the great food and location.

Casual atmosphere and great prices. Saw someone not happy with steak. Hello, u go here for burgers! Ha. And the sides are great. Love the onion rings. Burgers are served on cooked buns that make the flavor of the burger come alive. Order the large baskets of sides. Pick a variety and share. So many good ones so dont limit yourself by ordering side for yourself. My husband had been told to try chili dog. Finally he did, and loved it! The chili was awesome in flavor. We added up cost of dinner and it was no more than going to whataburger and sonic. Remember this is a relaxed atmosphere order up style with great burgers and sides. My fav burger in SA!

Gave this 4 stars but it's a strong rating because I typically hold my 5 rating for outstanding burgers. Good burgers and portions are larger than I expected. Kids burger with fries were adequate size and not too much or too little. Whole milk was available for our kiddos. High chairs and booster seats available. My wife's favorite meal is burger and fries and she was pleased with the meal.

Was a good place for a burger. It's not a chain brand style restaurant and is one of those type of places you would not know of unless somebody recommended it to you. It was good but a little out of my way for repeat visits. If you are near the area of this place give it a try.

When you get a burger at the Longhorn, either wear a bib or expect the front of your shirt/dress to get juice from the burger all over it. The rush at lunch caused a longer wait (about 10 minutes) and the focus is on the food, not ambiance - it shows in the taste of the sandwich.

When I first got there, they tried to tell me they don't accept my credit card. Why? Because they looked on the front and it looks differant than other cards. I told them it was a Master Card, they tried to argue with me. I told them to FLIP THE CARD OVER because they were looking at the wrong side. This person didn't have enough common sense to check the back. THEN I place my order for fried mushrooms and a chocolate shake. I walk all the way up with a sprained ankle in a brace, they FORGOT the chocolate shake. I agree to wait, but they say they will bring it back to me. What do they do? They bring me a shake with no straw. They say they are bringing back the straw. THEY FORGET TO DO THAT. How hard of a transaction was this to have THIS MANY MISTAKES?!

The staff where very nice, also fast service.the dinning room was spotless with walls slammed with people.Food was hot and right. The most important thing the food was right and fresh. WOW, Try the fried pickles.lol

My husband is what you would call a burger conoseur and we always go there everything is tasty great place for kids and love to sit outside

Definitely in the top 5 burgers around San Antonio! Excellent Texas burgers and fries! Even the chicken tenders is excellent! Very friendly and kind staff also! Good find!

I visited their San Pedro Ave location. Three families and twelve individuals in all with only one waiter. The waiter could only take six of the orders because according to her, she's only allowed to enter five or six orders in at a time and it took another thirty to forty minutes after they served half of us. Fortunately they served the children first. The food is mediocre and the service is lacking. This is a typical of a chain that comes into a town and opens four or five locations at one time. Lack of quality control and efficient management. They better get better fast otherwise their competitors will eat their lunch!

I stumbled across this place while I was looking around the Fiesta Texas area for places to eat on an upcoming trip. I clicked on it because the name reminded me of another restaurant in another town, although they're completely unrelated. I read the reviews of this place and it sounded good, so when we took a break from the rides at the park the other day, my wife and daughter and I stopped in. If you weren't looking for the place, it would be easy to miss it driving by. Nothing fancy here. The interior matched the outside. Kind of rustic and cozy, but inviting and comfortable. The employees were friendly and accommodating as well. My wife and I both go bacon cheeseburgers and split a half & half order of fries and onion rings. I always like to try onion rings at little places like this. Theirs are great rings. A little thicker than I really prefer, but they had a great-tasting batter and were cooked nice and crispy. The fries were good. Nothing special, but plenty good. We loved our burgers. They had no problems getting our orders right with our specific toppings we wanted. I really liked the thinly sliced lettuce they piled on. The meat had great flavor and it was all covered with a nicely toasted bun. Great burger! The next time we're in town, this will definitely have to be on our list again. I'm glad I found the place.

They do not call the Longhorn the Home of the Big Juicy just as a catch phrase. Order an original hamburger with all the fixins and you will agree - juicy. Nothing fancy here, but a Great burger. You will not leave hungry

First time visit , Had cheese burger and tots...Large burger and tasty overall. The tots didn’t have much taste but the portion was good. Would like to go again and try other things on the menu. Frito pie looked good

My boyfriend Mark and I looked up the best burgers in San Antonio, Texas. The first best was to far so we settled for the 2nd best burger. The Longhorn Cafe. I would have to put it on my best 20 list. Nothing really popped out that it was the BEST burger ever, but it was good. The resturant was clean, and the staff was friendly. When we were ordering a lady walked up to the open kitchen and said her order was wrong. They fixed it with out question, on the spot. The Longhorn Cafe had more of a bar ish feal. Not a cozy cafe. Everything was nice, Mark and I will return.

Burgers & grilled chicken sandwiches at reasonable prices.

We went for lunch and the service was quick and prompt, the specials were well priced, but the food was just average - certainly nothing wrong, but nothing exceptional, either.

Was craving these burgers for awhile now. They got all kinds of burger, today I had the jalapeño bacon cheese burger. Aww man, was just right, nice and juice. Our friend was friend and shared her onion rings which are good too. Wife gets the regular cheese burger it also very good, all burgers are 1/3 pounders, no 1/4 pounders here. Great environment, great smiling service and great place to get a local, high quality, burger. Enjoy the pics y'all! They also got beer draft and bottle. They got wine and chips and desert.

The Big Juicy is the best hamburger in town. My wife had the garden burger and enjoyed it. The onion rings are huge and delicious. For a good burger, I always recommend Longhorn Cafe.

One can't visit San Antonio and not stop for a burger at LC Cafe. It's always our first stop off the plane. Not fancy - just the opposite - but a friendly staff - inexpensive and good food.

We have been eating at the Longhorn cafes since the mid 1980s. We were disappointed on our last visit. The size of the burger has shrunk about 50%. The burger tastes the same, the onion rings and Tater Tots are good as usual, but they are missing half of the beef. This place is not a good value anymore.

This place has a very long and rich history with San Antonio, the Spurs and Churchill High School and is very family friendly. The menu is huge. Chicken Fried Steak, Chili, Onion Rings, Fries, etc. You walk in, place your order and get the benefit of a grill that has all the cumulative spices from decades of hot, hand-made, substantial and juicy burgers. Unlimited refills and much better burger, to me, than Five Guys, Willie's and Chester's.

Ate dinner here on a recent business trip. They have lots of beer signs on the wall but only had bud and bud lite. You order at the counter and pick your order up. Burgers were good. We had fried mushrooms as an appetizer and they came out with gravy? Asked for ranch dip and they charged a quarter per small cup for it. Floor was dirty and sticky. Don't waste your time and money

Great fresh food, burgers tasted great buns were perfect but Chris Madrid's is still better. Check for yourself.

Food was ok. Not sure why people say "Best burger" in San Antonio? They must have never left San Antonio! Onion rings were very greasy! Left a large pool of oil in the basket, more than there should be! I fir sure wouldn't kill myself to drive here for a burger!

great burgers... good prices

We've been all over South Texas looking for a better burger, but have never found one that beats this one right near home. Try the fried okra instead of french fries. We also love the tater tots. I think the cheeseburger is just about perfect but my daughter swears the guacamole burger just takes it to the next level!

The food is amazing! The food is huge! Sometimes the line is out the door... but worth it! Great atmosphere & people! I will be going back!!!!

If you have never been here, YOU have not eaten a burger. Best burgers around. Fair prices. Wonderful appetizers like jalapeño poppers and fried mushrooms. Big burgers with large dollops of toppings. Everything tastes fresh. Place is not small so don't let it fool you when you see the parking lot!

If you are hungry for a "homemade" burger with all the trimmings, then this place is for you. Add a cold beer and some onion rings/french fries and you are set for a relaxed "good eats"!

Amazing burgers. Texas sized. Very well priced. Best place in town. Go to the original in Blanco Rd. I'd recommend a regular cheese burger, the buffalo tenders are great, and half an order of fries (pretty big serving, even for a big boy).

Food was great. Steak cooked to perfection & shrimp grilled just right. Service was best we've ever had (table #26 - sorry that we didn't get the server's name).

We couldn't be luckier to live near Longhorn Cafe. Great burgers, great chicken fried steak, chicken tenders, homemade ranch dressing. It's all good here!

I have never been to the Longhorn cafe, even though I was born and raised in san Antonio. My son insisted it was very good. he was so wrong. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and my wife ordered fried mushrooms and others ordered hamburgers and fried onion rings. nothing was even close to being good. My grilled chicken was barely edible. the bread was greasy, the fixings were terrible only the chicken was ok. the fried mushrooms were hugh and nothing special. maybe smaller mushrooms would have worked. the onion rings had white flour inside the batter. my son's and others said the hamburgers were way overcooked and wished they had ordered the chicken??? this place is worst than the WORST McDonalds or Whopper Burger or Dairy Queen!!! BEWARE.

Ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and requested extra veggies,ex. Lettuce tomatoes and pickles. Also, ordered a cheeseburger and one large fries. This was a call in. When I arrived I noticed they had a meal deal so I asked for each to include drinks and fries. The employee told me the order was already ready and they would have to remake. No, I explained to her just add fries and drink. She billed me ala carte. It required another employee and a manager to explain it to her and ring up correctly. I proceeded to open up the chicken sandwich to check the vegetables. No pickles, no onion and no mustard but tons of mayo. I got my pickles and left. Proceeded to scrap off all the mayo when I got home. No ketsup for fries and no napkins. The burger was soggy. Beware they are known for tons of mayo so if you don't like it be sure to mention except I don't think they will listen. Check your order before leaving.

This little place on Blanco Road might just be the best burger joint in town. It does not seem like much but it is packed nearly all the time and the burgers are very good. Grab a beer and place your order. Sit out on huge back patio and watch the kids play or just relax until your tasty burger arrives for you to enjoy. Very casual dining but worth the trip.

nothing special about the chili cheese burger I had ... I remember in the past tha the chili as a bowl was very good but it was August and too hot for Chili

It has a very nice atmosphere. The service is good, and the food is very good. It can be, and usually is, quite expensive. In my book it falls behind Texas Roadhouse for value, and Saltgrass for quality. Not a bad steakhouse, though. Very comfy place.

Ok so I first ate at this hidden joint when it first opened and have had the opportunity to enjoy the great burgers ever since admittedly it's been over 10 years since my last visit until today !! Fresh hot delicious can't beat this place for the price ! Sweet potato tots are the bomb everything cooked to order and fresh Staff very pleasant great outdoor patio

The is a hidden gem on Blanco south of 1604. The food and the service we're second to none. Hey, if the SAPD stops there for a meal, it will be good. Restrooms clean as well as the dining area. Only thing stopping this restaurant from a five is that they didn't have my wife's slices of avacado, we had to return to the counter to get it

The burgers are always great, but try the BLT! You get a pound of bacon! The fried pickles are great as an appitizer. I think they have music on weekends.

The burgers rock. I have been eating here for at least 15 years or more. I have never had a bad burger or a "so-so" burger at this joint. Meat's always flavorful. Always the correct amount of condiments. The tater tots rock. Yes, the freakin' tate tots rock. The fried pickles are also the bomb. My number one fave burger joint in San Antonio.

Have their number in my contacts even though I am not from San Antonio. They are big and juicy. Love the onion rings but it takes at least two people to finish them off!

Locals eat here and it’s delicious. Absolutely best burger around. My Family of 4 started with queso and chips to be followed by 4 burgers. Side of fries and tater tots. This place rocks!!!!!! I’m hungry now just thinking about it. Highly Recommend Longhorn.

This is a local favorite. The chicken sandwiches have the perfect balance with a chargrilled flavor and golden buns. Even the newer locations don't make it better than the original. The original location has a true rustic Texas roadhouse feeling.

Welcome to the Longhorn they have great burgers once again everything is made to order family style. They also have beer on tap and bottles.Enjoy.

The restaurant was walk up to order. It had very many park like tables with wooden benches both inside and out. The menu was mainly burger, but they had limited other dishes.

This a great place that locals love! Make sure to get the chili cheese fries! Be prepared to share!

This place is by my house and I had heard good things....I pulled up the reviews online and was extremely wary! They seemed not as good as the local talk....with someone saying we might as well have gone to whataburger. HOW WRONG are they. The onion rings were perfect, lightly breaded with a homemade breading..not too oniony, but perfect! Same with the burgers. The meat tasted excellent (one reviewer called it tasteless...I couldn't disagree more!). Longhorn cafe has a new fan.

This place is an institution for some people. great Angus Burgers and the cheapest eats we had apart from Chick-Fil-A queue up pick ur food, pick up a beer from the bin of ice behind you and wait for your name to be called

I love the seasonings they use on their steaks. Really adds alot of flavor. The restaurant we went to in KC, KS was better, but we'll give this one another try sometime before giving up on them.

This is the place to go to when you are craving a juicy, greasy burger with a nice thick slice of cheddar cheese.

We have always enjoyed the food and unfortunately moved away. Went back today while on the road. We were not disappointed.

Cool little burger joint that's been around a while. $10 lunch, burger, onion rings and drink. The burger is tasty but the meat is a little thin. Toasted bun! Staff very friendly and helpful. The place has character and much more enjoyable than typical lunch stop. Check it out. Enjoy!

I have been going to Longhorn Café since i first tried it several years ago. You wait in line to order and will get called when it is ready. All burgers are great, specially Angus burgers. Very good sweet potatoes fries and regular French fries. They also have Fried Pickles, Fried Mushrooms, Frito Pie and onions rings. They also have chicken fried steak.

We thought that it was weird that this restaurant was attached to a gas station, but it was convenient so we gave it a shot! I am so glad that we did. The food was so cheap and so delicious. I was happy to see that there was a veggie patty on the menu. My brother got the sweet potato fries, and they were great. The kids loved running around in the play area and climbing on the train outside. They also had a ton of fun going up and down the elevator a million times while we sat and had some beers. :)

Some family members live within 5 min of the Longhorn Cafe and so I have been familiar with this place for several years now. It is one of the most non-touristic places you can find in San Antonio, very authentic. The burgers and sandwiches are great. It's not a very expensive place, I would say you get way more than what you pay for, in a good way. If you're ever in the north part of the city, don't you dare to miss eating there!

We love Longhorn Cafe for incredible burgers and sandwiches! They also serve my favorite tater tots, nice and crispy! The burgers are always great, and if you are really hungry, try the chicken fried steak sandwich! The grilled chicken sandwich is the best in town-marinated to perfection. Great selection of beer or go for the milkshake!

Longhorn Cafe has the best hamburger in town. It is always cooked to be juicy and mouthwatering. They give you a lot of fries if you order the full plate.

San Antonio riverwalk is a delite. Many, many dining choices. Food and view was wonderful, but the service was lacking and they weren't busy enough to grant them an excuse.

I'm from San Antonio, and I wouldn't go so far as to say that this restaurant is a "must-visit". The burgers are good, the fried mushrooms are good, the coke floats are good... the atmosphere is nice and very Texas-y... But if you are just visiting the city and staying downtown, it really isn't worth the drive (about 20 miles north of downtown / riverwalk). BUT, if you're staying on the northside, looking for a good burger and some live music (sometimes), this is a great place to go! Its casual, there's a playground for the kids, outdoor seating for about 30 people on picnic tables and a "grill feel" indoors. Its clean, despite the tattoos, ear piercings and dirty hair that the cooks and wait staff sport.

The Blanco location is very near to my house and I've been there a few times. Each time was satisfying. The line is almost always out the door, but the wait is not long. The atmosphere is very casual and a little loud, but it's not four star place, it's a place to go for a quick and reasonably priced meal. On top of that, the food is very good.

I can't believe I ate here. You walk in and think, "oh kinda divey, but could be cool". You order and then sit down to wait for the food. While waiting, you can't help but notice all the dirt on the ceiling and grime in the corners of the floor. They have kids working there and I think there was no one in that place running it over the age of 19. I ate the fries and didn't even drink the drink as I think the taps were not cleaned either on the soda machines. Save yourself the upset stomach and go somewhere else. Management - please clean up the place and have a good manager on staff at all times. Your menu is great, but the delivery is so sad.

We love the comfort food at Longhorn. Can't miss, especially for families or take out! All of us in NE SAT must partake.

we were there for lunch. very nice burger. i loved it. amazing atmosphere with many pictures around on the wall.

Everyone in town eats here, from bankers to laborers. Love the quality Angus burger on wheat bun. Music on weekends. Family friendly.

Ordered the Angus burger along with half onion rings and half tater tots. Saw the chicken fried steak and decided it was waaay to big for me to eat. Well, it turned out the burger was huge and the tater tots and onion rings were also more than I could eat. Comfort food on a budget!

Nothing fancy, just damn good food. Kids love the place. Adults love the place. It is a San Antonio classic.

Love their burgers and the laid back atmosphere. Food seems to get greasier every time I come, but it does taste good if you are not worried about cholesterol.

Home of the original big juicy burger. The cheese burger was excellent with just the right condiments. We ate there with a local crew and I was most impressed for lunch. Interesting place with excellent food and service.

Can't say enough for this restaurant. It's one of our favorite places in San Antonio and probably in the U.S. to get a burger. They are huge and so delicious. We've never tried anything but their burgers because they're just so good. We ordered a basket of fried pickles and onion rings and we were amazed at the size of the orders. We could barely eat all of it. Can't wait to get back there this winter!

If you like your burgers big and greasy with lots of gooey cheese, then this is your place. The fries and rings are among the best I have ever had. The chicken fried steak is to die for and the outside dining is so cool. you can sit inside if there is room, but try eating under the stars. It makes the food taste better.

Eating out with friends and family is very enjoyable at the Longhorn. Food is basic but good and the beer is ice cold. Great alternative to McDonalds or any other fast food joint for about the same price.

Me and my partners had a nice informal dinner. The burgers are good and also the chili, perfect to mix with a draft beer. Don’t expect sophisticated stuff.

First off, if you have trouble with stairs and you are down on the Riverwalk, go to the elevator a little ways down. The food was good but nothing to write home about. It was a little loud (a waiter with a loud voice at the table next to us).

One of our favorite places for after church lunch. The onion rings are lightly battered and sweet. You can’t beat the Chicken Fried Chicken. We like it without the gravy.

This restaurant has been around for a long time. They have a basic and simple establishment and remind me of what a burger joint was when I was young. They have a big grill they cook their burgers and toast the buns on. My favorite is the Swiss-mushroom burger combo. Their onion rings are great too!

I've been going here for over a decade, and the food is great! Good burgers, amazing salsa, and my favorite is the club sandwich.

We have been going to the Longhorn Cafe on Blanco Rd for over twenty years, so I can not speak for the other locations. During this time, they have had a couple of dips in quality, but they are back on top! The Longhorn is a super casual place--booths, burgers and beer. We always get a half order of both the fries and the onion rings. The Burgers are juicy and you have a wide variety of options. They do not become soggy or fall apart. You can dine in, on the patio, or take out. The only other burger in San Antonio that I consider to be exceptional was from QB on I35, but unfortunately they moved and switched to BBQ. I am not a fan of messy burgers (Chris Madrid's and Roaring Fork), poppy seed buns (Chester's), or flavorless meat (Bigz).

Really delicious burgers! But, if you don't get there early or call in your order, you will be in line for a while because this place gets packed!

This is an excellent, always busy, very casual hamburger place that also serves great chicken sandwiches, salads, fries, sides, ice cream, etc. My double cheese burger was excellent - the meat, bun, vegetables etc were top notch. The grilled chicken sandwich and fries were also great. This is my second time here, and it was great both times.

Today, July 6, 2013, the grilled chicken was dry and tasteless. And, the portion seemed a lot less than the 3 oz. it's supposed to be. When I asked the counter guy - he was smug and rude about it too saying that they "weigh it every day". I should have made him weigh it in front of me so that he can see how much of an jerk was being. Some of the lettuce was wilted and brown! Anyway, I paid over $9 for this meal which included a drink - totally not worth it!!!

Longhorn is one of our favorite burger joints in SA. Huge burgers made to order with the right amount of fixin's you can custom order. Only drawback is their not charbroiled but still a great flavor, with some pepper added for a nice kick. Fries are always hot and plentiful (order by the basket!). Their fountain soft drinks also have a strong blend of your favorite syrup (not skimpy with too much carbonated water like a lot of fast food places). Also serve cold beer you can grab from iced-down troughs as you walk up to order. Super casual atmosphere -- the one off I-10 has live bands on the patios on weekends. People are always friendly and it's a great value.

My son took me here for lunch after church one Sunday. The burgers were wonderful as were the onion rings. The staff as friendly and the restaurant was clean.

The Longhorn Cafe is the best place for burgers in the city. Laid back atmosphere but so worth it. The selection of burgers and appetizers is nice. And they have the best onion rings ever! Everytime I am in town, it is a must stop. I recommend it to everyone.

That's a question you don't have to ask at Longhorn. It was one of our favorite places to eat while we lived in San Antonio. REALLY good burgers as well as everything else we tried. It's actually "a hole in the wall", but the rusticity of the place just adds to the ambience. There's also outside dining available.

The food is great. It is very delicious. The service is okay I have seen better but they attempt to make a customer happy.

They have expanded into at least three locations. We are familiar with this location, and the one on IH 10 West. Tasty burgers, loaded with lots of extras. This is a two napkin puppy. Messy but good. The onion rings and potato tots are pretty good also. There's been some consistency issues since they expanded. Longhorn was our favorite for many years, but there's a new king in town.

We've been eating at Longhorn Cafe for well over 20 years and they still have the BEST burgers in San Antonio and maybe even the State! Big, juicy burgers! Can't be beaten!

Old time cafe with great burgers and chicken fried steak. Very casual and family place to dine. Be sure and add grilled onions, get a great serving of fries. Want a real burger this is the place.

We went to have lunch at their IH-10 location yesterday - and was disappointed. Luckily I used a coupon. The restaurant looks nice enough, homey. The staff efficient. But my husband's and our friends' hamburgers were so and so - I'd rather have Five Guys. The onion rings were good. My taco salad wasn't good either, too much refried beans in it, which by the way wasn't seasoned, not enough taco meat. Won't go there again. In this area, for a really good hamburger you need to go to San Marcos, I-35 exit 200, across the street from the Outlets - next to the gas station. There is a review here on Longhorn Cafe praising their steaks and shrimp - I think the reviewers confused Longhorn Cafe with Longhorn Steakhouse! :)

Went to eat after a shopping expedition. The four of us were hungry and in the mood for a good old-fashioned juicy burger. We were not disappointed! We started with an order of fried pickles to share. A bit salty for my taste but the portion size was generous and had plenty of ranch dressing for all. We had not yet finished our appetizer when our main order came up. Four juicy burgers (I had the classic) and a combo order of fries & rings to share all around. Our generously portioned side had more than enough to handle the hearty appetites of the men yet let the ladies get their fill of fries & rings to eat along with our tasty burgers. All the while we were eating, there was a steady flow of people coming in to eat or picking up a to-go order, so it appeared to be a popular place to eat. Would definitely return next time I'm in town!

Everytime time I go to Longhorn the staff is always friendly, the burgers are great, the beer is ice cold, and the food is fresh. My son likes the chicken strips he actually eats something besides fries when we are there.

I should have guessed when we stumbled into this place (because it didn't have a wait) that t wasn't quite what we were expecting. I was hoping for a big Texas size steak done with some flair...and it just didnt deliver. Great location....and the staff was great....it was the food that fell short.

I ordered the rib-eye steak, which was delicious, but it was not as tender as similar steaks I have ordered at other San Antonio steakhouses.

If you want an old fashioned straight from the flat too grill to your face kind of burger this is it! It had only been forever since I have been here and I forgot how good it was! The double meat burger all the way was Phenomenal!! The wife had the Swiss mushroom with bacon added and holy cow!!! The onion rings were on point and so were the tots! I did say old fashion right? Perfection for a burger and the bun is just a good ol down home white bread bun toasted just right! Get by here asap you'll regret it if you don't! I know I won't wait so long to get eat another round!

Saturday lunch. Located on I-10 toward Boerne, you can find at least 10 different burgers. The basic burger is just $4. Fries and fried okra are also nice sides. Counter service and you pick it up. A good place for a family to have a burger.

Great for the family we go to the I 10 west location Great Burgers!!!!!!!!!!!

We were so excited to try this sort of off the main road location and felt ok with the visit. Really great fish basket, subbed and paid extra for sweet potato tots and didn't get a good portion. Fried mushrooms everyone agreed we needed a second order of, and the burgers were so juicy and delicious! The sweet tea, even in the South, was too sweet. We all ended up mixing unsweet in trying to balance it out. Lots of seating space, sort of tough parking, but still we left satisfied and felt good vibes.

We have been coming here for years and just love it! The burgers are the best in town. Great for a casual lunch or dinner!

As a group of four who all have different dietary needs, we all had an easy time finding great food here. A burger with no bun? Done! Sweet potato fries that are cooked just right? Done! Grilled chicken salad with enough chicken to fill you up? Done! Lastly a mushroom Swiss burger with big pieces of mushroom? Done! Definitely going to eat here every trip to San Antonio. Great place for kids with picnic tables and a good amount of highchairs. You order your food first then they call your name over a loudspeaker. Bathrooms were dated but clean.

Burgers Texas style... big, variety of fixins, NOT health conscious, large thick fries, and a cold beer to wash'r down. Casual. Quick and efficient service. Have to keep your eyes peeled for the building. It is an unassuming establishment.

We came in from Austin and heard about Longhorn Café, being a Longhorn fan I had to try. Let me tell you this place is great! There was a long line to order and that tells you people are willing to wait for these burgers. Man was it worth the wait, the onion rings are awesome too. We will make it a point to drop by once we get back to San Antonio.

The food is cooked just as you have ordered it. The waitstaff is very attentive and prompt. The atmosphere is great.

Love the old fashioned burgers. Good nachos and family setting. So many burger joints are going over the top trying to make their burgers the best. The best burger is nice and greasy, hot and juicy. Love their fried pickles too.

Second time to dine at Longhorn Cafe this past Sunday. With a group of 8, everyone enjoyed their burgers ... fresh meat, well-grilled and juicy. Soft, toasted large buns, fresh veggies, burgers made as requested. One of our group ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes -- loved it; tender meat, lots of crispy crust and tasty cream gravy. Hand-made Onion Rings fried just right. My Chili Cheese Burger was a bit of a disappointment. The chili was somewhat dry (I didn't even get any on my white shirt!) and I believe I saw tomato in it -- not Texas Chili this time. Still very tasty, however. So far so good, 4 stars. However, be warned: Forget about Dessert. We had it all. Brownies, Peach, Apple and Blueberry Cobbler; all with Ice Cream. The Brownies were so hard on the outside we absolutely could not force a spoon in them -- all of the adults tried. The cobblers were really more pie than cobbler, done in pastry cups about the size of a large muffin, without much fruit or flavor (more cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, SOMETHING needed to provide some flavor interest). A dip of ice cream for $1.49, well, not a dip, perhaps half of one. And, it took 25 minutes to get these winners. I repeat, forget the dessert and you' might even have have a 5 star experience!

This place has some amazing burgers. I went with the angus kind and had some sweet potato tots on the side. It hit the spot in between legs of a very long drive. Had no idea what I was getting into when I showed up but did not regret it at all. Not sure if my paths will cross with this place again but if they do I would definitely return for another one of those burgers. Yum!

Not the best in town for hamburgers but certainly worth the money.

We go there at least once once a month--great hamburgers and chicken fried steak are some of the best in San Antonio---

My kids like Lone Star Cafe because of the little playhouses outside the restaurant. It's not a bad place; you order at the counter and you pick up your food in plastic baskets. The food is nothing remarkable, however. The restaurant does have private meeting space available, and they do sell beer. It's conveniently located by Fort Sam Houston. But the food quality is not much better than Sonic, frankly, and Sonic's prices are better.

Excellent burgers, chicken fried steak and tasty chili con carne too; This is the "Gold Standard" kid friendly place for the whole family to come for burgers in San Antonio. Great ice cold beer selection too; this is a destination, must-go-to burger joint! Enjoy!

The service and food was decent. Within the first 10 minutes of being seated we were approached by a caricature artist, balloon artist and a mariachi band. All at an additional cost. Found it to be annoying. Wouldn't return or recommend.

We have eaten at the Longhorn Cafe about 5 times and it has become our convenient spot for a good steak and reasonable prices. The waitstaff has always been attentive but not cloyingly so and the food has been excellent and plentiful. The baked sweet potato is a real treat.
The best hamburguers!!
