Visiting kid in Philadelphia from Arizona. She wanted Mexican like back home. Great food. Great Prices. Took care of the kid’s fix. We will be back.

AMAZING TACOS! Wow just wow. Excellent service and even better food. Portions are HUGE. I ate half at the restaurant and the other half back at our hotel. The chips and salsas they serve were so good we ended up eating two baskets. They also make great flan. We’re planning on driving back from NJ just for the food :)

Top notch Mexican food. I am always a fan of Mexican food but this place is one of the best I've been to. The prices are acceptable but the quality of the food is exceptional I work in the area sometimes so I always try to stop by. Definitely a great place to eat

6 of us piled into this South Philly corner cafe at 9 pm and were treated to a feast, whipped up in no time with beautiful presentation, everything tasty. Whole hearted recommendation!

This Mexican is buried deep in South Philadelphia and is as genuine as they come. No frills, no atmosphere, just a place for basic, real, Mexican fare. The prices are terrific, appropriate for a local spot. The food is simple and delicious with a full range of real Mexican food from tostados, tacos, fajitos, to enchilados. You name it, if it's Mexican they have it. I gave it 3 stars because I still like a bit more atmosphere and the chicken in the mole was undercooked. Still in all very good Mexican basic fare.

Stopped in for lunch on a whim. This is an instance where accessing multiple reviews has value. So too driving a bit out of the way. The food is wonderful - in quality and quantity. Clearly the meal of the day. Service is wonderful - informative, attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is a good 'vibe' of people from the neighborhood mixing with individuals from outside the immediate area. Combination creates a fun time for lunch.

Everything we had was awesome. The Mar y Tierra, the Salmon con something, the enchiladas, the burrito. Alcohol can be purchased across the street.

Enjoyed lunch on a hot Saturday afternoon at Los Gallos. I had the best carnitas of my life in one of their cemitas (torts/sandwich). My daughter loved her cheese enchiladas, my son loved the huitlacoches tacos, and my son in law loved the chorizo tacos. The portions are quite large; I could only eat half of my sandwich - but I definitely took a doggy bag!

Just enjoyed a very fine Mexican restaurant in South Phila. The place was filled with Mexican dinners,so I expected real mexican food, and that is just what we received. This is a small, friendly neighborhood place with an attentive staff, large menu and good food.

Ventured deep into South Philly with my wife and daughter for a late lunch after my daughter had been there with a friend and loved it. I generally eat Asian cuisine and am not big on Mexican, so I had been hesitant to go. I was blown away. The restaurant is nicely decorated (including wonderful painted wall murals), menu is very extensive, prices are good for the huge portions, service was very good. My wife and daughter shared a huge salad with chicken and all kinds of things on it plus the sopa de mariscos. The soup looked like a tomato broth. I saw large clams, shrimp, and all kinds of other fish and shellfish in it. The large portion was super tasty. The 2 of them couldn't even finish it. I had a sandwich under the heading "cemitas poblanos." A heated crusty sesame roll with refried beans, tomato, Oaxaca cheese, avocado, chipotle pepper and a choice of meat. I had tongue, but there were many other choices. This has to rank as one of the largest and best sandwiches I have had anywhere in the world. I have a large appetite and I could only finish half of it. I'm still working on the other half at home. I also had horchata to drink, a sweet rice milk with cinnamon. I am raving because I don't generally even like Mexican food. But I can't wait to return to Los Gallos (as soon as I finish the leftovers from my first visit). Was definitely worth the ride from the suburbs for my family.

Not a Mexican food expert but I can tell this food taste gyres and good, they don't serve alcohol but you can buy at the corner shop. Burritos and tacos were so good , they have three barrels at the counter with different drinks, try they are so good 😊

From start to finish. It was like a huge family dinner. Lost of choices on there menu. started with Quesadilla Los Gallos. for dinner I had Gallos Special Fajitas

Attended Birthday celebration on Saturday night total of 18 ppl. No one had a complaint and each entree under $20... I am allergic to mussels so the items I chose I had to change and they were very accommodating. Very nice atmosphere, they do not serve liquor we brought our own, We also had birthday cake, some places charge you a cutting fee for the cake they didn't which was a plus. We were there for 2 hours and was not pressured or rushed at all even though the place was packed. Everyone said the food was very good and can you say FRESH...yes we all said we would come again.

I went to this place twice and it is one of the best mexican place I've been to so far. The food is very good and one of the cook explained how they cook each dish we were interested in. The staff is also friendly.

While in SOuth Philly wanted to try a new spot for lunch and we decided to stop here. It's right on the corner and easy to find. It's decorated very nice and although small it's spaced out well. Prices are great. Server was friendly and pleasant and we once seated we received chips and two salsa's- one hot/chipotle & a guacamole-like salsa, both very good. I had the horchata and it was so good. Food was out fast and it was delicious. I'd def like to come back and try a couple of their other dishes. I had a side of refried beans but they were'nt your usual mushy brown beans. You could tell they were homemade/fresh. Also had the tres' leches for dessert and that was just ok; could have been a lot juicier. They had vegetarian options if you don't eat meat. Overall, I really enjoyed our meal here and would stop in anytime I'm back in the area.

You can tell that this is a "real" Mexican restaurant. My daughter, who works in the Mexican community took us here for dinner. She said it was one of the best and she was right. Everything, from the service to the food was right on. Los Gallos is now my go to place.

Some of the best Mexican food since leaving California three years ago. I have searched all over the New Jersey and Philadelphia area and have not found any thing close. Until today Los Gallos is the place.

Honestly this might be my favorite restaurant in all of Philly. They are so nice, have great service, and the food is delicious. It’s also authentic Mexican food which is harder to find then you’d think in philly. I go to UPenn so it’s pretty far from me but it’s worth the drive.

We recently visited Los Gallos with our son & his girlfriend. The restaurant is located just a few blocks from their South Philly house. We walked over on Friday night & were able to get a table fairly quickly; we had about a ten minute wait - it's a small place. After eating there, I would gladly wait 20-30 minutes for a table. The food was fantastic. All four of us ordered something different, but we all really enjoyed our meals. The huitlacoche enchilladas were absolutely great; they had an adobo/chipotle sauce that added great flavor & just enough heat. The taco tingas were excellent, as was the vegetarian burrito. The quesadilla gallos was good, but 3/4 excellent meals is a great average. The service was wonderful. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We are very happy to have tried it. The bill for four entrees was less than $42 - with tax. You can't beat it.

This restaurant is wonderful! If it's a Friday or Saturday Night, I would recommend getting there early! Preferably, before 5:30. The location has a small dining room area and because it is so popular, it gets busy fast! However, if you do arrive late, rest assured that the three waitresses that work there are extremely fast, friendly and make sure you get the best service! It's worth the wait! The plates are reasonably priced, the food comes prepared with beautiful decorative accents and it is ALOT of food provided! The best part of the entire visit, is the Orchata!!!! I could drink the entire glass container!!!!

Try there Seafood soup it's worth your money and it's cheap for the price of $10 and also try there main entree which is the Platter of Salmon it's really really good and they have a good dessert and drinks as well. Everything is under $20. Grab your friends and family or lover to dine in here. It's worth your time and money.

Fabulous, fresh and authentic food. We had enchiladas, tacos and sopa de tortilla at our table. The homemade salsas and taqueria guacamole were delicious, and the service very accommodating and friendly. We were babysitting our granddaughter, who lives a few blocks away, and plan to come back again the next time we are in town!

My first time with family at this restaurant for lunch. They're doing a great job there. Food was very good. My Pop had a veal chop that he really enjoyed. Nice comfy spot. Cash only. Totally recommend.

Their tripe tacos are good. I got charged for asking for extra sauce when all the other Mexican restaurants give them for free.

This is a storefront taqueria in the heart of South Philly that has a cheery colorful Mexican decor, friendly - but not prompt - service, very reasonable prices, and best of all really good authentic Mexican cuisine. Be aware of some challenges, though: parking is is almost impossible to find ... this is the part of South Philly were cars park on sidewalks, in front of fire hydrants, in the middle median strips and those lucky few with garages guard the garage doors with elaborate security. Take a taxi, bus, Uber or Lyft. The place is usually crowded. Most recent visit at the supposedly "off hour" but the place was packed. I managed to snag a seat at the window counter-top. It's understandable why the place is popular: the food is good and the prices reasonable.

Everything was hot and delicious on the very cold night. The chips, salsa and guacamole were crispy and fresh. Enchilada and tacos fillings and scrumptious. The seafood came in a black stone dish that kept everything piping hot. Every last drop was fantastic even the next day!

Everything on the menu is fairly priced, and comes in a huge portion. Love all their burritos. Girlfriend likes the house salad that she gets two meals out of. The quesadilla is the size of a football. BYOB

We were in South Philly so we decided to search for Mexican food since we had a craving. We chose Los Gallos after reading some reviews and we are so glad we did! I had chicken enchiladas in their green/cream sauce and my husband had steak tacos. Both were bursting with flavor and we agree that this was some of the best Mexican food we've ever had in the states! The rice and beans were also good, as were the tortillas with the spicy salsas they gave to us at the beginning. We would have tried more if we could fit it, but the portions were sizable and we were stuffed! One note -- the service was a little slow, so probably not the best place if you're in a hurry. Highly recommend if you're into the more authentic style of Mexican.

I had a little encounter with the transportation here at the hard rock café when I arrived at the restaurant my bus was already waiting for me to take me to cocobongo That’s how long transportation took to pick us up from our hotel room Alvaro the manager at El Gayo restaurant was so nice to prepare something quick for us to go he went out of his way to make sure everything was OK with us he speaks very highly of him I truly appreciate it

Excellent Mexican food. We had the specials of day- Burritos with Mole & Lamb enchiladas. Really home cooked meals that don't leave a hole in your pocket. Also try their desserts- we had tres leches cake - YUMMY!!!

I can't describe myself as a Mexican food expert but this was really good food. My favorite was the Los gallos quessadilla. we also ordered a burrito and it was probably one of the best I ever had. tacos were not bad but I had much better. very good service by friendly and helpful waitresses.

A small, family top notch Mexican restaurant. Large menu, very good food, friendly staff. reasonable pricing. What more could you want?
Best Mexican in Philadelphia
Los Gallos is the best Mexican food I have had in Philadelphia. As soon as you walk in, you know it is authentic, from the hanging paper decoration to the delicious rich Mexican smells. Their Al Pastor from la plancha was amazing. Crispy, sweet, rich pork bites generously filled these tacos with only the perfect amount of toppings to make them great. The slow cooked lamb enchiladas were fantastic as well. Be wary of the chips and salsa. The salsa is so good you will want to fill up, but don't be fooled. If there is one thing you can cut out, I would make it the guac, there are better things to try. I will definitely come back.
