Great Mexican Oasis

By Tess W |

We went in to escape from the searing heat on Hollywood Boulevard, and were really surprised by the quality and taste of the food at such a reasonable price. Our waitress was very helpful, very friendly, and explained dishes that were unfamiliar to us. The fried plantains were unbelievably tasty - we fought over them. I highly recommend this as a place to eat - do not be put off by this being on Hollywood Boulevard. Great food, great staff, great prices.

Always excellent

We have made stopping here a tradition as we visit our daughter. Always soooo good. A little pricy but delicious.

Don't let the exterior fool you

By Flyby0161 |

This is a great place for those craving some fresh Mexican food. Delicious tacos, black beans, salsa - even one of the best bloody Marry's in town. The restaurant is very clean, fresh organic food - too choice for a Mexican fix.

Awesome!!

By Alex S |

Ate here 3 times while in LA for work. Great food! I had the shredded beef burrito and it was delicious! The margaritas are amazing.

Not good!

By Discover701940 |

The waitress couldn't speak English got 2 of our orders wrong and then was frustrated with us. We wanted to leave but had children with us and already walked 2 blocks to eat there since we were told it had good food. Food wasn't bad, but not the best looking restaurant we expected better since we were on vacation. We got chips n salsa way late and the lady was talking half Spanish while taking our drink orders couldn't even understand her.

great suprise

By Mitch and Michelle |

Stopped here for a nice lunch before a concert at the Hollywood bowl. We have traveled to Mexico City three times and love the true rich food from that region. The food here is soo much like that from "real Mexico".....No standard calimex food here. The sauces are so traditional from old Mexico. We enjoyed great enchiladas with several different sauces just to try them......Great and the fish tacos were so wonderful. a huge beer battered fresh huge chunk that was crunchy on the outside and truly delectable on the inside Fish so fresh and moist. The service was great and the Margeritas///well, they are great as well. We tried the traditional and then the Loteria margarita with orange, lime, gran marnier and a few other added for a great "new" margarita. Of course we went in when the restaurant was not busy to we could enjoy everything and it was a wonderful visit....We'll be back. They have valet parking, however we parked around the corner at a metered space for a couple bucks....No problems with the parking at all. If your looking for traditional Mexican food from Mexico City and not the typical California Mexican joint that saturates southern Califronia then Loteria is a place you should try. It really does taste like your in Mexico City

Good Ambiance. Decent food. Sorta borderline rude service

By PakshiAndCrina |

Faces Hollywood Blvd... so lot of people watching opportunities. Ask for outdoor. Food is decent. Not great. But not bad or anything. Our waitress (a slightly aged lady) was a bit rude and not honest. We do not eat meat or drink alcohol... we also avoid sugary drinks like Coke... so we stuck to water. I think this pissed off the waitress. On a Saturday evening this means a smaller bill and smaller tips? She asked "Can I get you started with some Tortilla chips and Guac?" Of course who would say no to that? Later we were charged 11$ for that. This was dishonest. We did later find out that it was on their menu. But she did not ask "would you like to order guac and chips?", but rather "can I get you started with?...". Bad phrasing. Came across as utterly dishonest. The dish was good enough that I would have paid $11 for it. So no big regrets. But not great service.

Very good Mexican Food

By Mamagoose75 |

Very good tacos and burritos. The shredded beef tacos and the shrimp tacos were noteworthy. The salsa and chips were very good.

Enjoyable

By Karen D |

My son and I enjoyed this meal very much. His Mahi Mahi portion was very generous and he was very happy with the entire meal. I too was pleased with my Ocean Burrito. It was stuffed full of nice sized shrimp, rice, beans and avocado. Our waitress was very sweet and patient with our unfamiliar knowledge of descriptions on the menu.

Very enjoyable, good menu and drinks list

By speake53 |

Had a great mexican experience at this restaurant before getting a short taxi to the Hollywood Bowl. Had two tacos and a few drinks. Food is very very good value.

Good Mexican on Hollywood blvd

By Pinevalleyite |

We wanted Mexican and wanted a place we could walk to so chose this one. The salsa was not the norm. It was sort of more like a bean salsa but it was delicious. Margaritas were tasty and platters good. Wasn’t very busy but service was good and we enjoyed.

Excelente

By vinkar |

Excellent service... very friendly atmosphere... you have to trie carnitas moriras 😋😋 , the have to work a little bit on the beer temperature not enough cold ❄️❄️ , prices are fair ‼️

Good mexican right on Hollywood Boulevard

By fabian_salaverry@yahoo.com |

Good quality mexican. The place is not particular but the food is good. It was recommended by a local friend and it was worth it. The price was a bit high for the quality but it is Hollywood.

Good food & cocktails with a view of the Blvd

By SarElise |

We had a range of starters that we shared as a meal. It was fresh and tasty. We sat in the outside area to people watch whilst enjoying our meal and cocktails. Cocktails were great and friendly staff.

Always a Reliable Tacqueria

By Probo |

I had not been here for several years but swung through on a recent trip. The good food has not changed, and you can't go wrong with any of the tacos or other specialties. Get the black beans on the side with the rice, for everything.

Best Mexican ! - Recommended

By Andi M |

So being in West Hollywood and not knowing what to eat for dinner?? - If you fancy a Mexican then look no further that this one. Its a large restaurant with a couple of tables outside - a massive Bar running down one side of the restaurant and a Pinata hanging over us We had drinks (Mexican of course ) with Tacos, enchiladas to fill us up - mmmmm! Service though the restaurant was busy was great and nothing too much trouble. Fully recommended for couples through to large parties - we saw one that had about 20 people eating. Enjoy

Mexican food

By Penny d |

Having never tried authentic Mexican food before, we decided to give it a whirl and chose Loteria as they started out originally at the Farmers Market, so had a great reputation. The waitress was very knowledgeable and was very patient with us, explaining in detail what each dish was and making suggestions. We enjoyed the experience, although I don't think we'll be rushing out to dine Mexican style again!

Needs improvement

By stoketun |

The service is rather snippy. The margarita pitchers are ok......although a bit sour. The chile relleno is the worst ever. The carnitas tacos and cheese enchiladas are mediocre. If you visit, order the steak.....it is fine. The valet parking is seriously slow and quite rude. Nevertheless, this place is quite busy with lots of customers....so go figure.

Tacos are very good, along with sidewalk seeting along Hollywood Blvd.

By Michael H |

My Son and I visited Loteria Grill during a college visit in March 2017. The menu has a wide variety of Mexican choices. We each ordered a trio of tacos that were very good, along with some sides. The wait staff was very nice and since it was during the evening we elected to sit along the sidewalk along the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Blvd. We will definitely return here as we enjoyed the food and its convenient location.

good food - great watermelon drink !

By ggof61 |

we didn't know what to chose but wanted a taster menu / finger food so our waiter advised us - we had lots of little things to taste and they were all good .. the ambiance is busy, crowded and with loud music .. too loud for me - good service and reasonable prices the highlight was the non alcoholic watermelon drink they propose .. i would definitely go back iiiiiiffff i ever go back to l.a. that is ! ..

Pretty place and pretty good food!

By its_hot_in_WA |

Beautiful, spacious restaurant with character and charm. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was fresh, fast and tasty. We had taquitos which were not greasy at all and were tasty especially with the guacamole (best guac I've had). We then each got the 12 mini taco platter which featured 12 signature tacos. This was a great choice and these Timmy little morsels were really enjoyable. Along with the food we had 2 excellent mojitos - just delicious. I would very much recommend this restaurant!

Solid Mexican food

By Jami S |

The front desk at Magic Castle hotel gave us the recommendation for this restaurant. It was very clean with an open air kitchen. The food came out fresh and hot. We had vegetarian, carnitas, and Pollo as adorable. All very tasty. They will cater to your taste for heat. Spicy or mild it was all good! Watermelon margaritas, yummy!

Good mexican food

By Richard T |

I ordered a burrito. It came in one roll with a nice fresh salad. Frankly, my impression was it was good burrito but not impressive. As such, I might go back to this restaurant only if I can't find any other restaurants along Hollywood Boulevard serving decent burritoes.

Great service, great ambience, great food

By Bob A |

Basically stumbled into this place on a Thursday night looking for a place to watch the Blazer game. Decided to stay for a couple of drinks and appetizers. Although on the pricey side (what isn't on Hollywood Blvd) the service was great, and the flavors were even better. The drinks trended toward the stronger side, which is almost always a good thing. I highly recommend the guacamole, which was outstanding in my book.

Loved the interior!

By Winter R |

The interior was amazing! Food great, drinks great, and acceptable customer service. Going to miss the taco's when I go back home!

If you love Mexican Food, Dont miss out on this place!

By Chase C |

The staff was very welcoming, ( even though we arrived just before closing time), cool décor, great menu and even better prices! Our server was attentive and enthusiastic, our margaritas were delicious and if you like ceviche, you've got to have it! Yummm! We had the chicken and shredded beef tacos and they were a good size and really great. Their chips and salsa were great too! We found this place on open table, not being familiar with the area, and boy are we glad we did.

Great Food

By Tomasz P |

Proper Mexican Food - great guacamole, fresh vegetables and great sauces, chips, tacos, enchiladas. We took like 6 diferent things and everything was delicious.

An 'ok' evening......

By NickPapi |

Rather disappointing evening with average food and basic service. It took a long time to serve our food, although no new customers came after us. Food was 'ok and I cannot say that I am looking forward to go back. You might want to try other dinner option in LA

Great atmosphere, great, attentive service, delicious food

By GKnell86 |

Visited LA and had great meal at Loteria. Had visited Farmers market branch a few years back before they built this terrific restaurant. Really attentive, helpful staff and excellent, moderately priced cuisine of Mexico. Hollywood Blvd is pretty sketchy still but once you are inside, the place rocks!

Authentic as the Eiffel Tower of Las Vegas

By Guillermo P |

Ok, let's begin saying that being a Mexican restaurant in the Hollywood Blvd is a warning alert on the authenticity side. Following that the patrons inside were mostly gringo tourist in their tour though the hall of fame and almost no locals or Mexicans were being served os a second alert. Then that we were attended by a guy who almost couldn't explain the Mexican dishes for the very simple reason that he couldn't speak Spanish for the very simple reason that he was as American as the a BLT was the major alert. So why I didn't attend these big signals to avoid Lotería? Because I was misled by the great reviews in TA and some magazines made for LA tourist. But as anything bad could be worse, to the pretty fake Mexican food here we added a very poor service, they were in I don't know what rush, but we got our starters literally thrown in a small table for two (the restaurant was almost empty it was 3.30 pm but we were seated without option in an uncomfortable table for two), and a minuet after they came with the main dishes AND the bill without letting us just check the desserts. The food was not only very far from a very authentic Mexican experience, it was a weird result of throwing condiments with any criteria with very awkward results. The only good here: When you get out of the restaurant you meet with the star in the Hollywood hall of fame deserved to God itself: Mr Jimmy Hendrix, rest in peace.

Fun Time + Tacos

By bluecarrot |

This place has come a long way from its original stall in the Farmers Market! The atmosphere is fun and relaxed and perfect for Hollywood blvd tourists as well as casual locals. Having said that, I was hoping for something a small amount fancier! The tacos, though, are why you come to this place... or maybe the tequila. Loteria is known for fantastic tacos and this location did not disappoint! Their tequila selection is worth the trip as well. Its not really a "Date" restaurant, but its worth the slightly higher price for some good food if youre in the area and want something decent to eat!

Great food

By ChefsBistro |

Enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Service was great and food came out quickly. Both kids and adults enjoyed immensely

Excellent Food

By bmeoli63 |

Relaxing, nice atmosphere, great service and delicious food. Heart of Hollywood! Would definitely go back.

Good tacos

By Jimmy |

Loteria is a slightly upmarket Mexican restaurant - not fancy but modern decoration, very clean & beautiful fresh ingredients. We had two types of beef tacos & both were very good, although our favourite was the carne desebrada. The guacamole dip was delicious

Stumbled on this place - my best meal in the US

By Carl Di Stefano |

I was just looking for somewhere to eat. The burritos were amazing. So much food and so tasty. What they did with beans has to be eaten to be believed. Also, due to some weird circumstances, Batgirl came up to me and started talking to me here. She thought i was someone else but hey, it was pretty amazing experience

Great Tacos! Great Service!

By JanieB_11 |

One of my favorite go-to restaurants in Hollywood. Fresh Mexican food. My favorite are the tacos. I love the shells. Great staff that is very attentive and helpful. Full bar.

Great atmosphere with great food

By Jillfoley08 |

We enjoyed the open dining atmosphere amongst the hustle and bustle of Hollywood Blvd. and enjoyed the food even more. The guacamole with the chips was one of the best I've had (the three of us had two orders) The tacos were delicious and unique and my salad was amazing- a special during tomato week. Would highly recommend this to friends.

Fun and good food

By TracyHawaii |

It is a fun room. Of course who doesn't love the gigantic lotteria cards. Chips salsa and tacos. Can't go wrong. Salads are good there as well. Not cheap tacos but nice room so worth it.

Good Food, Quite Pricey, Dodgy Service

By Jeremy D |

66% of my nuclear family had a meal at Loteria a couple weeks back. It was my first visit there and judging by the reviews online, supposedly the best Mexican in the general area. I'm not sure I completely agree with that. A lot of my review is based on the service. I think the lady who served us was a bit off that evening because she messed up a lot of stuff. For one, I ordered a starter salad and then 2 tacos without rice and beans. My tacos arrived with everyone else's food as did a side of rice and beans and no salad. Eventually, the manager asked how we were doing and helped get the salad out, as it was likely not going to arrive otherwise. My dad ordered a glass of horchata and my sister ordered one of their specialty drinks. What arrived was a pitcher of horchata and we never saw my sister's drink. When she asked our server, our server said "oh, we don't have that right now." So instead she had brought a double order of horchata without saying anything. Strange. Food-wise, my salad was really nice and the tacos were fine but nothing terribly impressive. For the total cost, I'd never do this particular meal again. Maybe there's something else on the menu that's worth the cost but definitely not what I got. It was just too expensive and didn't leave me wanting seconds.

Impromptu supper

Recently visited with partner, great service, good authentic menu and delicious too. Had the enchilada and tacos very well presented and warm friendly staff.....definitely visit again when we're on LA

Delicious food and great service

By Jouko N |

This place was easy to go to, in the heart of Hollywood. This was rcommended by Loewshotel consierge Chris and it was a perfect place to have authentic mexican food.

Authentic, delicious mexican ... a little upmarket!

By Amanda W |

Loteria was recommended by the staff at our hotel. We wanted Mexican, and in Hollywood there are so many mexican restaurants its was great to get a recommendation. We enjoyed a margherita with guacamole to start, and share the 'special' for main which was pork, chicken, beef, shrimp, beans, salad, condiments and mini tortillas. The special ingrediant - cactus pad - which tasted a little like green pepper to us. This dish was delicious! The absence of sour cream and cheese was such a welcome change and you then really enjoyed the ingredients and spices. The staff were firendly and knew there stuff! Lovely setting too. It isn't your regular cantina, and was only $70 for the 2 of us. Compared with Sydney prices, great value!

Tarot Latino

By Colin F |

Considering some of the fare along the strip, this place is incredible, if somewhat expensive. The décor is a wonderful mix of enlarged tarot and wrestler cards. The food is exceptional although they could use some help with the beer draft choices. I had the seafood tacos, which are small but oh so delicious, so I ordered it twice. Unlike some Latin restaurants, they don’t smother things with goopy cheese or refried beans. Just be prepared to pay for the privilege, as lunch for three with one Corona each was $73 – yikes! To my knowledge however, there’s nothing else this good in the category for quite a ways, so I’m hooked.

Tacos are great every darn day

By ProfAragon |

I suggest you go to Loteria Grill and try any of the tacos. I always choose chicken and I was not disappointed. The staff were friendly and I had a great meal.

great modern mexican food

By filmlaw |

they do a great mixture of traditional mexican food, but prepared with modern ingredients and flavors - very unique and very good mexican.

Excellent Mexican on Hollywood Blvd.

By AASeattleFlyer |

This restaurant was a delightful surprise. Wasn't expecting much on Hollywood Blvd in the heart of the tourist area. We stopped by for lunch. We were immediately shown to a table. Within minutes of sitting down, we were sipping wonderful and flavorful margaritas. The chips were warm and very good. We ordered tacos and both of us enjoyed our selections. It is not a super fancy place, but the perfect spot to grab fresh Mexican food in a clean and friendly restaurant. The owner/chef was walking around talking to various customers about their experiences. A nice touch.

Great experience

By Cayman Mike |

We made our reservation on Open Table while on vacation and the restaurant was packed when we arrived. We were immediately seated. The atmosphere was friendly and it looked like a lot of local patrons were eating. The food was very fresh and well-prepared. I had a burrito and my wife had shrimp tacos. Our waitress Ginger was very attentive. We struck up a conversation with the manager, Carlos, who soon sent over 2 complimentary tequila shots that were marvelous. We topped off our meal with ice cream. This is certainly worth a visit and you will not be disappointed with the food. We left at 9:30 pm and the crowd was still streaming in.

Great food, hand made tortillas

By Consultantgal |

This is a great option for dinner. the food is excellent, the prices aren't bad and you can't beat the local flavor of Hollywood blvd just about any night of the week. I recommend just about everything here. It is fresh and they offer unique items like Pipian sauce (Yucatan specialty) that is not found many places. They also hand make the small tortillas but use factory made for other purposes, so order something with the small sized tortillas.

Excellent food - Expensive drinks

By sleepydisco |

We stopped off at Loteria Grill on our first night in LA. In the UK, we're spoilt by quality modern Mexican 'street food' restaurants in the vein of Wahaca, which in part, appears to be where Loteria Grill is aiming. Food-wise, this really delivers. Fresh ingredients, well prepared dishes, and authentic cuisine. But be careful - we were upsold a pitcher of margheritas by our server. While they were good, when the bill arrived we were fairly shocked to find that this had accounted for around a quarter of the total for a group of four.

Terrific food, convenient spot and reasonable price and service

By OttoSchwartz |

We found this restaurant on Trip Advisor when we were looking for a place we could walk to from our hotel near Hollywood and Highland. All three dishes we ordered were well-prepared and delicious. The decorating is spare and tasteful, and the atmosphere is lively without being too loud. There is an outdoor/sidewalk eating area which can be enclosed when the weather is a problem. All in all this is a great place for food in Hollywood.

Good location, excellent service and food, good value

By Pippa B |

Came recommended by a local and did not disappoint. Met by the owner whom was very engaging and happy to give us time and recommendations. They did not disappoint, good nachos platter to start, excellent Mexican beers. Hearty mains full of flavour and filling. Not expensive for the location.

great tacos and location

By 2millionmilers |

Situated on the hollywood walk of fame on hollywood blvd, it was a great break in our trip. The Food was excellent and very fresh and the service was great. We started off with a couple orders of chips and quac then moved into the sample taco platter--lots of variety and tapa sizing, The burritoes were excellent as well as a side of pollo mole. Very impressed and agree that we would come back again.

Great food and service!

By Stacy G |

My husband and I stopped in here for dinner after walking around the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The food was excellent. We had the chips & guac, grilled chicken tacos and chicken Tinga burrito.

Just OK. I'm sure there are better Mexican restaurants in L.A.

By Brandon C |

I read in Los Angeles Magazine that this was one of the top 10 restaurants in Los Angeles. I do honestly doubt that. The food was mediocre and I did not even finish half of what I ordered. I will say that their rice and black beans were excellent, but I rarely find any Mexican restaurant that messes that up. I also kind of think the restaurant could be slightly cleaner. None of my party of 4 was impressed. One member of my party did complement their margarita selection, though I am not much of a drinker. The restaurant was not terrible, but I guess with the rave review in Los Angeles Magazine, I expected more.

Tacos that try too hard

By AshWolf |

I think most of their tacos are okay, but I think they try to hard to develop high-end tacos that they miss out on the big picture. The tortillas aren't all that great for gourmet tacos and they really chintz on the fillings. Not for my money!

Great Mexican food

By Annette L |

We are here as part of a tour and really enjoyed it. The tacos were amazing! Chips and hot sauce were very good. We would highly recommend this place. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is good.

Very tasty Mexican food

By LarsRo |

We went there for dinner and had tacos. Very different from any tacos we have eaten before, but very, very tasty. The restaurant is a bit pricey, but the service is good and the food is excellent. The music from the bar is, though, far too loud. We could almost not talk to each other without yelling at each other. That's too bad, since it was good music but I don't want to use earplugs in a restaurant.

Stumbled across this Mexican gem

By Belinda |

First ate at Loteria Grill in September 2010 and loved it! The food is nicely priced and is amazing! Live music + Mexican, love it! Can't wait to return.

No monster portions - just the job

By travisthedog |

This place is a jem and really good food and service. Get a seat inside if you can because the action and noise on the pavement (sorry, sidewalk) is generally mayhem/noisy!!! Specials were really good and well presented and the team take great pride it seems on all aspects of your enjoyment of your meal.

Less than mediocre "Mexican food" in tourist-saturated location

By Molly M |

My sister and I wanted to get Mexican food from somewhere in LA during our last night in town. We thought about just stopping by a taco truck, but after reading a number of glowing reviews about this place (including 2 articles on LA times), we decided to go to Loteria. Big mistake. We arrived after making an open table reservation to find the restaurant nearly empty on a Sunday night, yet we waited around 20 minutes before a waitress even came by to our table. I could have gotten past the bad service if the food was good, but it was mediocre at best. The chicken tacos and enchiladas were nearly tasteless. The house salsa and chips weren't worth the calories and the mole sauce was flavorless. It was really disappointing because this restaurant was ranked as the "2nd best mex restaurant in LA" acid to LA times. Not only that, but our food came out lukewarm and our table was sticky and never wiped down, even after we asked. After all of that, our bill for two people was more than 60 dollars for 2 drinks, an app, and two entrees. We could have gotten 10 meals at an LA taco truck that were 10 times as good. Very disappointing. To be fair: the quest fundido dip and homemade tortillas were very good. Either way, I would not recommend this restaurant.

High Class with Some Items Lacking in Some Others With Average Service

By Christopher M |

The location is very convient to anyone staying In Hollywood and there are some great items in the menu, but the service does lack. First at 1100am on Sunday morning they were playing Miriachi music as loud as the speakers could play it. As we were the only customers their at that hour we asked if they could turn it down some, which they said would be no problem, but we had to ask three times before they actually did so. The guacamlole was top notch and I liked the sides they had for my snapper having it sit is a spicy red sauce with fajita style vegtables and also green olives, but the piece of fish itself left somthing to be desired in both taste and size considering the price. Also in addition to our request about the music they wait staff seemed to have a general level of disintrest.

Excellent Food and the Best Service

By elizabethlascheid |

My grandson and I went back to Loteria Grill on Hollywood Blvd in May, before a show at the Pantages. As always it was great. The service is just the best. Our server George was so kind. My grandson accidentally flipped the table we were at (not over, just up) and thankfully there was only water on the table at the time. I was quite wet. George came over and moved us and helped dry me off, all the while, talking to Buddy so he would not be upset (Buddy is a special needs child). George was just the best. Moving on, we ordered and George made special food for Buddy and a special soda with cherry syrup in it. The day was made. They have wonderful Mexican food. We love their rice and beans and their tacos are just amazing. The food is fresh and so good. The place is also beautiful. It has a wonderful outdoor patio if you want and the inside has beautiful art on the walls. We just love this place. The owner is so kind, and the staff is just the best. We can't wait to return.

Quality Food and Service

By MattB |

Had queso fundito (sp?), guac, choptle salsa, mole poblano. All were very nice. The salsa, especially stands out because it is different- smokey from the chipotle. Happy Hour food and drink specials available. We went there twice, and went to the Santa Monica location last year. Recommend for value, relaxation, and good service.

Hotel recommendation

By joeisle17 |

Very friendly/caring employees. Nice menu variety. Our hotel rated this very high, but I rate it average.

Amazingly Wonderful Despite Touristy Location!

By TomGBanks |

Set in deep tourist territory, the Loteria Grill provides welcome respite from the throngs on the sidewalks outside its walls. A mobile internet search Turned up good reviews for this place, so we made our way towards it. When we actually arrived, we almost just kept driving. The location alone was darn near enough to turn us away. Boy am I glad we parked and went in to eat! The food was really good, the ceviche fresh and flavorful, the service darn near impeccable, and the drinks excellent. Considering its location- perhaps convenient, if you're tripping around the neighborhood- it really couldn't be much better! Our Loteria Grill Experience on Hollywood Blvd was 100% wonderful.

Visited with Tourific Escapes food tour

By Lisa510 |

Awesome dining area with good vibe. Loved the smokey salsa and chips. Amazing tacos but my favorite was the sope . Great for the whole family. Truly authentic Mexican food.

Great location, but average food

By MatsLulea |

We went here after recommendation by a local friend. We had a late lunch around 2:30pm, and we were seated outside next to the street with sun shining. This was good as the temperature in December is not crazy hot. I had a taco platter with three different ones - pork, chicken and beef. All of these were selected to be spicy, but I could not feel anything of that. Also, the taste was rather bland without andy character. I had to put some extra salt and peppar on. All in all, not a bad place, but nothing I really have to try again.

Very good for veg also

By BalkrishnaShroff |

We were just walking on Hollywood Blvd deciding where to eat veg food. We had a look into menu and found there are quite a few veg dishes. We took a chance and were very happy with our decision. The food, service, ambience everything was excellent. It was also reasonable. We went second time and got an outdoor table which was still better. Worth visiting even for veg food.

Bad service overshadows very good Mexican food.

By FloridaFamilyofFive |

Overall the Mexican food was very good. Good shrimp tacos and guacamole. The taco plate and mini burritos were good. The service was especially poor and disinterested.

Great atmosphere and hospitality

By seventiesgirl500 |

We stumbled across this restaurant simply by chance whilst exploring the Hollywood stars. Jerry Lee Lewis' star is right outside! Great Mexican food in here, served by friendly staff who seemed like genuinely nice people. We enjoyed informal snack foods like nachos, tacos and quesadillas, washed down with a delicious Mexican Cabernet and one or two shots of tequila. Loved the music and decor and felt very relaxed in here. Staff members helpful in recommending tequilas and even helped advise on nearby shoe shops following a broken sandal. So good we went twice. Best wishes to the lovely staff at La Loteria!

Nice but I have had better

By Denise S |

This restaurant was nice and the service was good. We did have trouble reading the menu as it is very dark in the restaurant and the font is small. We also struggled to understand the waiter with his accent but that can't really be avoided. The food we got was nice tasty and consistent. It is definitely not the best Mexican I have ever eaten but everything was fresh and tasty.

a bit pricey for what is served but great

By Jason L |

Loteria so very interesting, I loved the layout and I loved reminiscing with my wife playing loteria with our families in our childhood. The food was excellent, maybe a little pricey but that comes with the territory of eating on Hollywood Dr (just as if you eat on South Beach). I would visit again!

Nice little taco joint

By RebeccaWCarmel |

Pros: reasonably priced, full bar, clean, outdoor seating, food was great! Cons: service was a little slow even though they weren't busy, I ordered a vodka tonic and it came out brown (not sure why) had to get another one, server was not friendly...not rude...just kinda flat. For a quick bite to eat at reasonable price this fits the bill.

$3 Tuesday

By Albywon |

The beef taco was the best by far. This is a nice place and reasonably priced. The tacos are a little cheaper at $3 but the draft beer is a real bargain. Very friendly staff. Pacifico

Surprisingly good!

By Nicolas_Kar |

This restaurant was recommended in our guide book; we walked in during busy lunch hour without a reservation. There's a wonderful high-ceilinged interior dining room, seating about a hundred people. There's also a patio/terrace with views on Hollywood bvd. The staff are very hospitable, and the food was surprisingly good (having read other reviews here). We had the chicken burritos with a couple of cocktails, and they were excellent. Fresh chicken, good vegetables, excellent service and reasonable prices. Worth a try if you're visiting he Zkodak Theater/ Graumann's Chinese theater.

GREAT and authentic Mexican good

By Consultantgal |

I actually ate at Loteria twice this week. The food is consistently good and the menu boosts items you just can’t find many places. Be sure to order the guacamole appetizer and save room for the tequila ice cream. The service here is good and much faster than you might expect.

We are actually still here and I had to post this now cause we love it so much. We shared several different types of tacos and my hubby had the taco sampler. Delicious delicious delicious. And the margarita pitcher...yum!!!!!

What a pleasant surprise

By VDL_10 |

We had one last night in Hollywood and hadn't planned a dinner spot. We checked out a couple of other locations but they were either very old and dated, or too loud and wild (after the Superbowl). We stopped at Loteria and decided to take a chance. I am SO glad we did. We started with chips and guacamole. Very fresh and tasty. Our dishes included ceviche, tamales, enchiladas, noplaitos salad with beef, and sea bass. A wide variety of dishes and each was excellent! The margaritas were fresh but the cuba libra was flat. The service was very good and the waiter was fun! We were not expecting a great evening, but it turned out very well. Thank you!

The place is have great Mexican food in Hollywood.

By elizabethlascheid |

My grandson and I went to Loteria Grill for the first time on February, 25th before seeing a show at the Pantages. We always get ourselves to Hollywood early to walk around and maybe have lunch. On this occasion we walked quite a way from the Pantages (Loteria is on the North side of the street, about 6 blocks West of Vine). My grandson spotted the cool looking Loteria, with its open area seating and its beautiful interior that you can see from the huge open front of the restaurant. That was the place, he announced, where we would be having lunch. I was not expecting much, just a fast lunch and we would be on our way. I was in for a shock. This is the best Mexican food on Hollywood Blvd., and I have been to so many of them. First, the place is spotless, and airy. It is just a happy place to be from the moment you walk in. The host sat us in a spot chosen by my 10 year old grandson. I have noticed that sometimes in nice places like Loteria, that the host will try to put someone with a kid in the corner or just out of the way. Maybe they assume he will act out or that the grandmother (clearly I am the grandmother) won't tip well--whatever. That is always a mistake. My grandson is perfect in any location and has been since he was 2. I appreciate great service and if my grandson is treated like he matters, well, my usual tip of 25% goes up. After all, I know we are not going to run a bar tab, so let the server make their money. The service is great. My grandson ordered--he really wanted apple juice, but our adorable (I mean gorgeous) server suggested something new for him, "How about a Mexican Apple Juice Soda?" My grandson was all for the idea, not being allowed soda very often. He loved it. Try it, you will like it--a bit sweet. He then ordered lunch as did I, and the food is fantastic. They have 2 types of beans, and they make them right there, the rice is so soft and it is not the typical orange Mexican rice, it is white with some seasoning that makes you want to order more. The tacos are just the best. To top this, is there unbelievable guacamole, which you will want to just order a bunch of with their chips. It is made fresh, it is not too spicy and it looks great as well. Everyone that works there is friendly and they don't rush you. We were lucky enough to meet the owner, who came to our table to say hello. I think as soon as he started talking to my grandson he could tell that he is a Special Needs kid. Instead of trying to get away, he spent 10 minutes talking to him, they talked about the art on the wall, where it was from, what it meant, how great the food is, where we were going next---he was the best. So, go there. I loved it and it is our new spot before a play every time. You can't go wrong. I just can't say enough great things. I love this place--as my grandson says.

I would be selfish to keep this gem to myself !!!!!

Excellent in every way. Food, service and ambience were a memorable experience. Loteria grill is a much try venue. Delicious food and cocktails.

Clean and good food

By Alina P |

The restaurant is in a great location very near to several main attractions. It is very clean and they have a small section to eat outside. The food was very good. The citrus salad with chicken was very tasty and there was the perfect amount of dressing with lots of avocado. The beef tongue burrito was also very tasty. We found the guacamole appetizer to be very expensive for the amount of guacamole that was served. Also, the service was lacking and the waiter was rude when we inquired about happy hour.

Very good

Wonderful food and service! I ate a burrito and was amazing. Fresh and very well made! Good option in Los Angeles! I recomend!

Good location, good food

By scottesandiego |

My wife and I parked at Hollywood & Highland for a visit to Hollywood Bowl, and decided to try Loteria Grill for dinner. It's a short walk (2 blocks), so location-wise this is great. Clearly, if you are visiting this area of Hollywood, the location is great - right in the middle of all the touristy stuff (Wax Museum, Dolby Theater, Egyptian Theater, etc.). Our food was good (ceviche tostadas and carnitas plate), as were the drinks (two margaritas that I don't remember, so they must have been good! :-) ). Service was attentive, but not annoying. The decor inside leaves a lot to be desired, as the space is just a big open area with tables and brightly colored walls; a little beat up and sparse, but clean. Overall, this is a good place to stop for food in the area. Not at all fancy, with plenty of room for large parties. Good food, and a good location.

Tasty food

By MAJ |

We ate here twice. Staff friendly and service was good. Food was definitely tasty. The decor was pretty. Reasonably priced.

I want to like this place

By LosAngelesRoadWarrio |

I have not returned to this location since it first opened. I remembered attentive service and a fresh look. Unfortunately, my party did not experience any of the afore mentioned. I do understand that this location can feel the pressure of the 'rush' of Hollywood Boulevard, but the wait time was clearly unacceptable. We sat at the table hoping for our drinks to be delivered, but the waiter said the bar was 'overwhelmed.' I cannot believe how a restaurant that hopes to make a profit will deliver drinks 'on or near' the delivery of the entree. The prices of the bar and food are not forgiving due to the location and do not match the experience. I wanted this visit to serve as the start of a 'reunion tour;' however I will not return. There are too many options in the area for the price and service.

Food and service excellent

By seesaw1143 |

Love this place Great food and service Better than la Lotería at farmers market I was impressed and I will be back !! Loved it Love u guys at la Lotería Thanks for looking after me

Very good

By xamers |

Some quality food here. The seafood burrito was top notch. The chicken varieties were good, not great. Appetizers were fantastic. Drinks were fantastic. Overall this is very much recommend.

Great choice

By isawayaway |

In a food court with three other food options so something for everyone. Two of our party ate from here and by far the best choice around the table. Loads of greens and good taste.

3 1/2 good food - not great service

By ICNiT |

We had heard good things about this restaurant and gave it a try. The food was good - real good. No compaints about the quality of food. The price was a bit high so I would give it a 4/5. The atmosphere was decent and it was on Hollywood Blvd. Our service was poor. The waitress was possibly too busy and seemed distracted. She offered chips and guacamole and we accepted...but changed our minds 30 seconds later after seeing the price to which she seemed disgusted. We ordered drinks and I got wrong drink - not a big deal, and then had water poured into drink twice by two different people before dinner was over. That and couple other things made for poor service - but got to be honest - I'd still give another try and hope for better service because food was good and liked the place.

Good Food Decent Prices

By gots_2_travel |

The ceviche dish as well as the shrimp tacos were excellent. Lots of mixed dricks to choose from. The green rice was lukewarm and just okay. Service was excellent.

Great Food and Service - a nice oasis on Hollywood Blvd.

By Jeremy044 |

This Mexican restaurant is a nice sit-down restaurant along Hollywood Blvd and is a good break from the craziness of the sidewalk outside. The food was delicious starting with the salsa and guacamole! My carnitas tacos were delicious. The margarhitas were ok. The service was very attentive and friendly.

Good food, rude service

By toontoon67 |

We ate at this restaurant having seen it's good reviews on TripAdvisor and as it was local to our hotel. Although not the fault of the restaurant, Hollywood boulevard can be quite intimidating with various "characters" roaming the streets, so make sure you keep your possessions safe. We arrived to a rather quiet restaurant, to our surprise given its good reviews, and were shown to our table. Our waiter offered us the welcome nachos, salsa and guacamole, which we accepted. These were very nice, as were our main dishes. However, despite the good food, I can only give this restaurant 3* for two reasons - 1) the "welcome nachos" are actually an appetiser charged at $10.50, which our waiter conveniently forgot to mention! 2) the same waiter, upon presenting our bill, said "just so you know tip isn't included, and the recommended amounts are shown here (circling to the tip percentage breakdown on the bill), effectively demanding a tip when, in all honestly, he'd been rude and condescending all evening and didn't deserve one. Needless to say we under tipped him due to his attitude.

An excellent Mexican fast food venue with excellent service

By Eric C |

To be honest I have never been much of a Mexican food lover, but it was the end of a long day so rather than be ultra conservative and stick with what we know, we decided to pop into Loteria to give it a try, especially as it had cocktails on the menu. It certainly made me glad we did. I had an excellent margarita, followed by another soon after and Lisa had a Mojito. The place was clean and we were served by a lovely friendly Bolivian server called Tatiana ( I thought that a bit unusual too! check out her website http://www.modelmayhem.com/1456471 ). When we sat down we were instantly served with iced water, which was constantly topped up and complimentary tortilla chips with a spicy dip. We asked for more with guacamole, which was first class. The main courses were tacos from the specials menu. Lisa had shrimp filling and I had the three little pigs. Again these were really tasty and filling. By this time I was nearly through my second excellent margarita and feeling jolly satisfied. So for value and good quality food and drink, served up with very good customer service Loteria Mexican Grill on Hollywood Boulevard gets the full 5 stars from me.

Not too good!

By nabeab |

Ate at Loteria located at the Farmer's market. Chips and salsa ok and chocken burrito very bad! I will not go back, there are so many other options to chpose from over there

Fresh mexican

By matthieularivee |

Great to find a Mexican restaurant with salad and not just the regular tacos and burritos. Food was tasteful. Nice service, Great casual vibe. Nice variety for drinks.

hmmmmm

By Light_33 |

Great service, good margaritas, so so tacos, chips mediocre, salsa straight out of a bottle. I am always excited to try a new mexican restaurant. Loteria was selected as I was running errands in the neighborhood with a friend. We love our tacos and always eat mexican when we get together. I checked the web site and reviewed the menu. Maybe my expectations were too high and boy was I disappointed. Not a lot of favor in those tacos. The salsa for the chips was a BIG disappointment. Guacamole was ok but again not a lot of flavor. hmmmmm not again - if you want a chain go to Chipotle.

Good food, expensive drinks

By James B |

Good spot on the Hollywood Blvd, service was attentive and the food was above average, drinks are expensive but overall satisfied.

Great Happy Hour Prices Food not so Impressive

By Flyaway0921 |

We liked the happy hour prices but the food was not desireable. If you are looking for fajitas this is not the place to go. The queso is not like the queso you would get in a what I am used ot as a "normal" Mexican restaurant. It is basically melted cheese not the kind you dip your chips in but the kind you pull the cheese off the plate to put on a piece of bread. The servers were nice. I recommend going for happy hour but not for a main meal seat down dinner.,

Great mexican

By ben p |

We had walked Hollywood boulevard a couple of times and needed a sit down. We sat here and after having some nice cocktails we ate. The staff were great and after ordering a starter and main the waitress explained the portions were big so to leave the starter!!!! I was surprised but accepted her advice and it was spot on. Great food and service.

EXCELLENT!

By PalmSpringsCA |

I have been to the location in Studio City a number of times but was glad to try out this location. It was a great experience (unsurprisingly). The atmosphere is great like the Studio City location- modern, minimalist, open, etc. It matches the excellent food served which is a modern version of Mexican. We had amazing service!! I was impressed! And I am not just talking about the actual waiter but the whole team that helps customers. When we were about to leave, the staff wrapped up 1/2 of the delicious carnitas burrito my friend had, and gave us a huge side of salsa. I asked if she might be able to get a few chips as well, and they brought a big bag :) I had a couple of tacos including a desbreshada beef one and the mole chicken one. Both were delicious. While I am not typically a fan of Mexican-style rice, their's is delicious. Their black beans are absolutely amazing!! I could eat them all day long! We started with an excellent margarita- the Cadillac one, and it was great. We had chips and some delicious salsa while we waited for our meals. The only thing we missed was dessert but we were too full :( Looking forward to returning!!!

So so Mexican food.

By OliveOil0906 |

Went here with 2 girlfriends. The guacamole was pretty good but everything else was kind of just mediocre. I got a burrito with pork and was surprised at the lack of fresh ingredients. Where was the cilantro?? There was no fresh tomato, avocado or cilantro in my burrito. It felt heavy and a little unimaginative. I probably wouldn't go here again.

A little pricey but good

By Passport247746 |

Comfortable restaurant with outdoor seating right in the smack of Hollywood. Menu is geared towards a more sophisticated palate for Mexican food lovers. My chicken burrito was yummy and the side salad was excellent. The homemade chips come with pico de gallo and a creamy salsa all very good. They have a full bar. The happy hour menu is reasonable. Service was good. A good place to go if attending an event in the area.

Great food and good prices. Service was great, just a really relaxing place to go. Bartender was helpful and friendly. Will go back again.

Nice but not exciting.

By CleareyeHollywood |

Food was good, but a bit pricey. Ambiance ordinary. Better to walk a few blocks to Mussos, past the hideous south sea street fiasco next door.

Authentic!

Excellent authentic food. Great service. We ordered burritos and the seafood/beef dish. Excellent! Tortilla chips and soft tortillas were excellent.

Terrific Mexican cuisine

By LondonPhilC |

The Loteria is situated in a pretty unpromising rank of themed bars, tourist shops and fast food stores on Hollywood East of Highland. We tried it on our second night in LA due to a lack of any other obviously appetising option, a decision we didn't regret for a moment. We were greeted cheerfully and warmly, a feature which didn't abate during the entire evening - our waitress was attentive without being overbearing, and knowledgeable on the food on offer. The menu is wide-ranging ( and to be honest a bit confusing) with a range of burrito, taco and echilada options, and a huge variety of seemingly authentic and unfamiliar Mexican ingredients. While we made our minds up we ordered guacamole and chips, which was in truth so filling that we ducked out of starters. My mushroom enchilada main was great, and my companion's steak taco certainly seemed to do the trick. There are a wide range of beers and wines on offer, including Mexican spiced beer, which we weren't I admit brave enough to try. We were so impressed that we returned the following evening, this time with a Mexican colleague in two, just to check that what was being presented as authentic Mexican food in fact was. He was thankfully very impressed (even with the spiced beer) and standards of food and service were fully maintained. His is definitely a place I'd return to, offering great Mexican food in a relaxing environment and not too heavy on the pocket.

Disappointing

By Stugatsa |

The service was quite slow and food was not great. Chips and salsa are not free, which is fine, except that the little bowl of salsa we got was not even filled halfway. There are many better choices of restaurants in the area.

Great Mexican

By BrinksMP |

We enjoyed a fantastic Mexican meal with great Margaritas whilst in LA. Would recommend the burritos.

Good nacho, good food, good service

By Hermie |

We stopped by and ate here after spending all day at the Universal Hollywood. The nachos are best nachos we've ever had. We had burrito an absolutely amazing, very authentic. And because of St. Patrick's Day, their glass margaritas were only $7, the margaritas were very good as well. Overall, I would recommend this place.

Great Mexican Food

By grv89 |

Loteria looked very cool from the outside and the menu read well. Had a nacho starter followed by a beef burrito. Both very tasty and 'authentic' I guess. Would happily eat here again or come for drinks as the bar looked very well stocked. Only slight downside - our Waiter's English was not very good at all and we struggled to communicate with him

Great Food

By mtripguy |

I had a burrito and the sauce (Cholula) I put on it was soooo good......a great variety of Mexican food.....I did the chicken burrito and would definitely order it again.....don't forget to try the sauce!

fun & inviting

By JasonandNataliaR |

We came back twice, the food was good and the cocktails even better. The atmosphere vibrant and fun and the cost of the meals were very reasonable and drinks, well we stumbled across this place while happy hour was running so it was great value. Thank you to Gerardo he made my husbands day by making those chilli margaritas and of course how he looked after the whole family.

Great Space, Great Food!

By DoctorBuckles |

Out in Hollywood on Sunday, after the Hollywood Farmer’s Market. My friend loves Loteria from the market and has wanted to check out the Hollywood Blvd. restaurant. It was worth the walk. The space is beautiful with a huge piñata hanging in the center. Clean, bright, big sky-light. The food, the same wonderful fare plus more. We went for trying the different tamales, naturally for the season. They were great. It appears if you like Tequila this is your kind of bar, it is fully stocked with all kinds, brands, and tastes of it. Definitely a check out.

Pretty good Mexican restaurant

By Laith B |

I stopped by before busy dinner time.. starting with host, our waiter, the manger and the bus boy everyone was absolutely on top it. Excellent service that's for sure. Food was pretty good. We tried 3 different things on the menu and I can't say it was the best food I ate but it was pretty good for sure and I will be back. Happy hour prices were pretty good as well.

Quick Mexican

By Chris D |

Went there with our teenage family & everyone enjoyed the food & service. Some quick enchiladas & nachos was very tasty.

Clean, great seating, great taste

By Brenna B |

Travelling alone i prefer to avoid big chain restaurants like cabo wabo etc and was looking for decent mexican cuisine. They delivered. Tacos were good, chips before were great and the rice and beans were amazing. My draft modelo beer was the perfect temperature as well. There patio is great year round and service was excellent.

Good Food but Disappointing Service

By NSMKMelbourne |

We ate at the restaurant on a Saturday evening. There were six at the table. We ordered cerviche and six different types of tacos so we could have one each. The tacos are small and come in servings of one, two or three. On the plus side all the food was good, especially the cerviche, the pork tacos and the fish tacos. On the minus side all the food came at once including the cerviche which should have been served as an appetiser. We enjoyed the food but if there had been just a little more thought put into the timing of the service the evening would have been so much more enjoyable.

Tasty Mexican food in a great atmosphere

By Paca70 |

We ate at the Loteria on Hollywood Blvd. The staff were very friendly and the decor and atmosphere to our liking.....bright and airy. The food was very good, the best authentic Mexican food I've had since I visited Mexico. The tacos were excellent and they had a good choice of Mexican beers.

great find!

By Kelly187 |

excellent food by everyone in our party. attentive service. reasonable pricing compared to other restaurants we looked at here in LA

Delicious Lunch right on the Hollywood Boulevard

By benny3345 |

Went here at the suggestion of our hotel. It was a great choice for some good Mexican food. I tried the taco plate which came with 4 tacos that I could choose each individually. All 4 varieties were excellent. Even the rice on the side was very good. The burritos look very appealing. I also really enjoyed the chips and salsa because the salsa was the smokey style which is very tasty.

Clean cleverly spare decor

By Mary S |

We were the first customers of the day so it was very quiet. The food is fresh and not heavy with lard like so many Mexican places. I would go back and try several of the more unusual items on the menu. Good pressed coffee too.

Great food, Great Service

My daughter and I were here for lunch during Restaurant Week. We had the 15.00 Special that came with a starter, 3 choices for lunch and a dessert.Food was EXCELLENT !! Fresh , nicely spiced and nice portion. Service was lacking.

Sunday mimosa brunch!!!!!

By Larsha56 |

So for $30, the two of us got a tasty and filling Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas. Now normally with those bottomless things the waiters are intentionally stingy, but not here! They filled up our glasses even more than I actually had planned to drink! On top of that, the food was really tasty and the value was unbeatable for the location. I think it's a good option if you're in the area and if that special is still on.

Great Mexican food on Hollywood Blvd.

By Amayesing |

Ten family members got together for Mexican food at Loteria. We went at noon on Sunday, when the restaurant was fairly empty, which was great as the staff were very family- and kid-friendly. We all had different dishes, and everyone raved, but perhaps the best items were the fresh guacamole and margaritas. These are our two favorite items in any Mexican restaurant anyway, and Loteria delivered. I would highly recommend this fun, Mexican restaurant near to all the Hollywood Blvd attractions.

chicken tacos - best ever

By PallasAthena08 |

Ate at the outpost in the Grove Farmer's Market...delish! The Horchata was the best I've ever had.

Great Mexican in the Heart of Hollywood

By EricaKellyMartin |

Jimmy Shaw, who owns the Loteria Grill and the other locations, has a great concept - serve fresh, authentic mexican fare in a cool setting. The food is always good, and the chips are hot and fresh. I particularly like that the food starts with high quality fresh ingredients. Definitely get the guacamole, although you may want to share because they give you a lot. I like that they don't put jalapenos in the guacamole. You can always add heat if you want. Also the tequila selection is stellar and the margaritas are really good.

Best meal on Hollywood Blvd.

By 3Harelik |

Excellent. My favorite meal in Hollywood. The atmosphere is traditional with just enough modern comfort and urban flare. The service is on-point! The guacamole is fresh and flavorful. I had the Mahi-Mahi with the chipotle sauce and a cheese enchilada with rojo sauce. Enjoyed every bite.

Food ok but service poor

By MissKirstsTravels |

Were recommended this place by our hotel. We were greeted by friendly staff and drinks order quickly taken. After what seemed like a fairly lengthy time our food order was taken. It was taco Tuesday so we ordered some guacamole & chips for starters which came quickly. For mains we ordered tacos & a children’s meal. The tacos came (nice flavour) and we all sat waiting for the kids meal to arrive. We couldn’t get anyone’s attention to let them know our child’s meal was missing. Eventually we ate our tacos which were cold and we asked twice before the kids meal arrived - by which point she had already filled up eating our food and we also had a toddler who needed to go to bed so we left without touching the meal. I was disappointed with service and so were many around us. Clearly not enough staff on - i would hate to come here on a busy night.

Great Food

We had an awesome experience at this restaurant. Great service, great food and good prices. Try the Burritos. They are perfectly made.

I got burned by Loteria's $9 nacho chip scam too

By threadhead |

I just saw the review by Ball0une dated June 25, 2014, and feel compelled to comment. My wife and I were staying at the nearby Loews hotel in March on convention business, and one night we went to the Loteria Grill along with 3 of her work colleagues. When we arrived, we too were offered a basket of chips "to start with" (which, like breadsticks elsewhere, are customarily free in even the sleaziest Mexican restaurant). We later discovered when the bill arrived that the waitress had jammed $9 on our tab for this puny basket of chips. That however was only the final insult that evening. The waitress in question (an older harsh looking woman if anybody knows who I mean) had already botched the drink orders, and she also completely forgot my wife's entree when ordering from the kitchen. Voila, eventually 4 meals arrived for 5 people. Faced with the prospect of re-ordering and then eating alone after the rest of us would have been finished, my wife opted to just let it go and shared some of my meal instead. Nice dining experience, not. Since the restaurant at the time was maybe 2/3 full at the most, they weren't exactly "overwhelmed" as someone else put it. The word we're looking for here is "incompetent" or perhaps something even worse. Since we'd already had some great meals elsewhere on previous evenings, we just crossed Loteria Grill off the list for any future events, warned all our associates, and left it at that. However, it really bothers me to now read that this is actually being repeated as some kind of systematic scam. If there's a restaurant or tourist association reading this, I'd be kicking the Loteria ownership's butt if I were you, because this kind of stuff makes everybody look bad. It also perpetuates the image that Hollywood is just another tourist ripoff, and that conventioneers should take their business elsewhere.

Great Dining Experience

By L6953YVpaull |

Excellent food, great-even exceptional-service, nice surroundings and a good value. I am reluctant to eat at most Mexican Restaurants because it seems they have become so ordinary—tasteless mounds of carbohydrates served in large portions. But Loteria is NOT like that. Here, the food is tasty and flavorful. The chips and salsa that start the meal set the tone for an unusual experience and the rest of the meal follows suit. Every time I have eaten here, I have been pleased. They offer a wide range of menu selections and combinations and every item is just a bit unlike anything similar you might get in a different Mexican restaurant. And, I must add, I have rarely had service that is as friendly and personable and totally attentive as I experience here. It is easy for me to overcome my reluctance to eat at a Mexican restaurant when I have the chance to eat here.

Outstanding fine dining

By traveltime111 |

I was first quite impressed with the decor here. The walls are adorned with beautiful pictures and the interior is superbly color coordinated which really enhances the mood. This restaurant stands out as very upscale, tasteful on a street with alot of tackiness. My guacamole sauce was the best I ever had. The red snapper tacos I devoured were also amazing and super fresh. I had a Tamarind and Margarita Feliz which which tasted great. Service by Pedro and Louis was also very professional and courteous. Pedro was great at recommendations and manager Louis set the mood for a top notch dining experience. Loteria Hollywood is now on my world top ten list for best Mexican fine dining. Congratulations.

Good Mexican but strange smell in the restaurant

By FengXueSG |

One of a few decent restaurants you could find along Hollywood boulevard near the walk of fame. The taco and nacho was good. Service was a bit slow but overall OK. However, there was some strange smell in the restaurant when I had lunch, for which I deducted one star.

Very average taste

By FBKalra |

I usually judge a Mexican place with the quality of the tortilla chips and salsa they offer, I wasn't exactly impressed with the taste of salsa here. They don't have an option of fresh salsa, quite surprisingly. Although this place is renowned for the true traditional Mexican flavors but this did not appeal our taste buds much. We ordered for cheese enchiladas with spicy salsa.

Very Good Mexican - Perfect Location if hitting Hollywood Bowl

By Yougotmeatvacation |

Visting from out of town while hitting a show at Hollywood Bowl we wanted Mexican Food while in town. Our hotel recommend Loteria Grill and it was perfect. The service was fantastic and very attentive. It was a short walk from out hotel on Highland Ave and then we could walk to Hollywood Bowl. My friend and I both ordered the fish taco's and they were very good as was the black beans. The Margaritas were fantastic and we happened to hit Happy Hour, so needless to say we are big fans of Loteria Grill. We even went back after our concert @ Hollywood Bowl. Great Mexican Place to hit while visiting LA.

Great place

By mrschristinamorris |

Super nice food, fancy environment, a little pricy, but staff is great! It's right on Hollywood Blvd.

Really good food

By Belgo96 |

We came here at lunchtime and had the Tinga de Pollo and Cane Deshebrada Tacos (essentially a type of chicken with chipotle and chorizo and shredded beef with guacamole, chipotle and cilanto (coriander for non USA people). The flavors were really good and so too were the freshly baked nacho chips (still warm when they were served to us) and the mole sauce. All very distinctive flavors and the service was good. I loved the festive ambiance in the restaurant and bar area. Yes, we are tourists in LA but we are quite fussy foodies who eat out regularly and the food at this place tasted way above any mediocre tourist joint. I wouldn't call it the most authentic Mexican I've eaten (although the owner grew up in Mexico City and started in LA with a taco stand at the Farmers Markets). The Santa Monica location did not look nearly as attractive (smaller, cramped and ridiculously busy).

Amazing Food & Great Atmosphere!

By Megan |

Loved this place! We ordered nachos as an appetizer and I almost died and came back to life because I love nachos and these were it, these were the nachos I needed in my life lol. For the main course, it was hard for us to decide on what to eat since everything on the menu looked great. I ordered a carnitas bowl and my boyfriend ordered chicken and carne tacos. Sooooo delicious!!! The Mango and Strawberry Margaritas we had complimented our food, they were perfect as they were not overly sweet and were made with love! I loved this spot because of its authenticity and the workers were mostly Hispanos, I'm all about businesses that support POC and our own community members! It was also based off of the traditional game of chance, Loteria (hence the name). They had large Loteria cards as decorations, really cool. It had a great vibe and our server was super nice and attentive with the service. I definitely recommend and will definitely be stopping by the next time I'm in LA.

Loved it !

By tiledawg |

Super service In a smallish cozy place with an outdoor patio and good bar - it almost all one room. Good was excellent - the carnitas and the guac were perfect ! Margaritas exactly how you want them and the hot sauces here killer !

FIRST TIME THERE

By PKW000 |

Hubby and I wanted Mexican food so tried Loteria. I ordered pork carnitas, which was not like what I expected -- more like a mini roast on a plate. Hubby ordered 3 taco special. Fish taco was great, but he did not care for the mole poblano sauce. We both agreed that the white rice and black beans that came with the meals were very, very good. The chips and salsa did not compare at all to the chips and salsa we get in Oklahoma. Waiter was friendly but had to ask him to repeat things several times. Would we go back? Probably not.

Authentic Mexican restaurant and grill. Decor is epic! If it's a hot day cool down by entering his cooled down place lots of air conditioning. They were attentive to my food allergies & my mum's gluten free needs. Their bar is awesome as well. Staff were friendly and professional excellent tasting food. If you ordered a big meal it was massive! Plenty to share between three people probably could have easily feed 5 people our meal. Price matches portion size & quality. Excellent 10/10 5 stars! A++++++ We are from New Zealand and we appreciated your staff taking great care of us & helping find our way around Hollywood for the first time. We would definitely come back to this exact restaurant when we come back to L.A in the future.

Good mexican and great service

Went here after it was recommended in Lonely Planets LA guide. The food was very tasty and so were the margaritas they made. Good venue for a nice lunch along the hollywood walk of fame. Service was attentive and nice. Would come back here.

Lucky Find

Wandering down Hollywood late one night, I searched for a restaurant that would match the magic of my week in Hollywood. I started out looking at restaurants with history, like the Pig and Whistle, or Mel's Diner... but then I saw Loteria, on the corner of Hollywood and Cherokee. The clean, playful magic of those trees inside the restaurant, the giant, huge, enormous piñata hanging from the ceiling, 8 foot tall Loteria cards lining the ledge above the seating area... I turned around and went for Mexican food, hoping for something as unique and fresh as the decor. I was not disappointed. At Loteria, you get an open bar, and an open kitchen. I asked for a seat against the wall, so I could enjoy the decorations I had seen from the street. Fresh ingredients add color to the counters. The waiters wear crisp white shirts and aprons. The effect is clean and contemporary. The menu is simple: tacos, enchiladas, chile relleno, aguas frescas, everything made with care. I had a red enchilada and a mole enchilada. This was the best mole enchilada I have ever tasted. The sauce was rich and smooth, chocolate and spice in perfect balance, every bite a delight, you just eat real slowly and hope it never ends. The red enchilada, also very good, tortilla fresh and plump wrapping delicious chunky morsels of chicken. The rice was white and the beans black, unlike the brown and yellow of my usual Tex-Mex fare. I thought I detected some coconut in the rice, it was delicious in any case. I asked for Aguas Frescas for dessert. Their pineapple mango blend was a fresh juice drink that I loved and enjoyed thoroughly. It was not thick, but not watery either, fresh, tasty, refreshing... yum. Just right. Served in a carafe, the portion was generous and I was able to take some home to enjoy later. I couldn't wait to tell my local friends about this great restaurant. I found out that many Angelenos already know and love Loteria, and the nearby studios often order lunch from there. I can understand. Loteria means "Lottery" and eating there makes you feel like a winner.

Authentic Mexican

We were in Hollywood and decided to try this restaurant. Clean. Delicious freshly made food! Highly recommend. Friendly staff!

Not really impressed

By lozza_3 |

Just ate here a couple if hours ago. The food was pretty bland, I agree that I actually prefer taco bill in Australia! The margaritas were pretty good though. Service was awful. Waiter forgot our drinks... Both times. No silver wear was provided, had to ask a couple of times, which is a little irritating when your meal is already in front of you. Plates that were obvious finished were never cleared.. So empty plates took up all available space on our table. Had to asked for the bill at least four times. Won't be returning here.

Excellent Mexican Food

The look of the restaurant is great. It was way more inviting than Hollywood Blvd itself. The food was interesting and tasty. I tried 2 Mexican dishes I have never had before and both were great. The taste and food quality was top shelf.

Thought it would be better...

Very cute place--the bar and restaurant inside is decorated with Mexican loteria cards and it looks really cool. The hostess and waiter were both clearly Spanish speaking people although they were kind of snotty with me when I tried speaking Spanish with them.. (I'm not quite fluent but I can make my way thru a restaurant pretty well). Anyway, the food was decent. Good menu. Good chips and guac for starters. I ordered a spicy margarita drink--can't recall the name--but it was a little too spicy, even for me. And it was actually too spicy to swallow--like they added too much chili pepper but the guy didn't seem to care that I wasn't drinking it or that I hinted at the fact I would prefer not to pay for a drink I physically couldn't swallow... The service was lacking--seemed like none of them really wanted to be there. Other than that the food was good and it was probably one of the nicer restaurants on that whole dirty stretch of Hollywood Blvd.

Great Mexican food

Went in after passing by. Great no Mexican food at reasonable prices, quick service. Don’t pass this restaurant by

Solid Mexican

Had just arrived from LAX and headed to Hollywood. We went to another place for lunch after tossing up between this and the other. We then came back to Loteria's for dinner. Loteria's was way better. Prompt service, good food and nice beer combined to make it somewhere I'd go again.

Food wasn't nice unfortunately

By Michelleg1120 |

Came here with my boyfriend after reading good reviews on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the reviews. We had shredded beef tacos and chicken tacos along with some nachos. I didn't like the food at all and felt a bit crappy afterwards. Prices were quite reasonable

Very good Mexican

By AntM_WorldExplorer |

Of course LA does very good Mexican, and Loteria Grill is right up there. Food was great, margaritas on point, service unhurried and friendly. Would not hesitate to go back and have another meal there.

Rating based on 1-5 on Food, Service, Value and Ambiance: Food: (4.2) NO FREE Chips and salsa! 😞 Drinks average, nothing special. Burritos and salad that comes with were very fresh and well made. Service: (3.5) Service was very slow and no follow up on update on food by server. She did apologize that service was slow: Value: (4.5) considering quality of food, price was in line. A bit pricey for a burrito but the food was good. Ambiance: (5.0) Nice place that was clean and decor was nice to look at. Bathrooms clean.

$9 Complimentary Guacamole and Chips

Craving Mexican food and having read good things about Loteria Grill, my husband and I were really excited about this dinner. Turns out there was nothing special about it. Service was slow to begin with, although the place was nowhere near crowded. We had to ask the waitress to come over after a 10-15 minutes wait, and had to call her back as she left the table quickly after taking my order, forgetting to ask my hsband what he wanted. My Michelada was a shame, really. The spice rim was nothing but salt and zest. The drink itself was sour and watery with no heat at all. I didn't finish it. We got two ceviches (shrimp and tilapia). The shrimp one should have been chopped more finely but other than that, they both tasted good. We had five tacos, and they all suffered from a lack of creativity and texture. With no crunchy element to balance the moisture of the filling, they were all fairly bland, but the chicharron one was the worst, a tasteless soggy disaster. The cactus one was nothing but cactus, cilantro and chopped tomatoes. The chicken with pumpkin seeds suffered from a lack of pumpkin and spices alltogether. I'm afraid that I can't remember the name of the beef taco we ordered but it was the only one that did not disappoint us. When the bill came, we were upset and surprised to find out that we had been charged $9 for the chips and guacamole basket we had been brought at the beginning of our meal. When the waitress had asked if she should bring us a basket when taking our order, we naively thought that it was complimentary as many Mexican places will bring you chips and salsa. We did not appreciate that and took it off her tip. Los Angeles is full of Mexican restaurants. Just skip this one.

I would NOT recommend this place

By Spaceman Spiff |

So it must have been a bad night for this place. They sat us a the “bar” on the side of the restaurant. Then they decided to prep the guacamole and chips right next to us. We asked for margaritas without salt and when they came with salt I reminded them of our request. The bar tender literally told us to just wipe the salt off with a napkin. I was so shocked I had to just laugh, pay our bill and go to another place. Either way this is not the way to treat paying customers. Again, I would NOT recommend this place. Not only bad service but just plain rude.

Delicious food and drinks

By lookinforlinks |

My sister in law, her friend, my daughter, her boyfriend , the bride and myself ventured out for dinner on a Thursday night and wandered into Loteria. Without reservations, we were able to sit outside immediately. The place was busy, so I would call ahead. I had a jalepeno margherita that was excellent. The staff was friendly and the service quick. Everyone loved their meals and drinks. I recommend stopping by.

Good food and service

We were walking around looking for a Mexican restaurant, and we were lucky to find this one. All waiters were helpful and the food was great. We wished there were more options on the menu, but we were definitely satisfied with our choices!

Yum yum yum - if you are staying in the area this is one of the better places to eat

By tubefeed |

All food was fresh, yummy and very enjoyable to eat. It made a nice change from the greasy hamburgers and chips. I had chicken mole on a tostada, others had chicken enchilada, shrimp tacos and a burrito. Everyone was very happy with their meals. If you are staying locally e.g. Lowes, make the walk down the street and skip Johnny Rockets, Hard Rock Café and those of similar ilk, this is a much better meal.

Love it!!!

A quick walk from the W Hollywood and you're at Loteria Grill. After all the grime and commotion of street, the all white walls and high ceilings of Loteria Grill feel like a mini-vacation from whatever brought you to Hollywood. Or you can sit on the patio and have a little quiet while still people-watching. Have the ginger margarita and the guacamole, no matter what!

Very good food

The food was fresh and delicious. The margaritas are excellent!

Good food, small portions

By Talal J |

We went to Loteria Grill for dinner on Hollywood Blvd. I had tortilla soup which was delicious, but very small. I also had an order of two shrimp tacos which were tasty, but didn't come with any rice or beans. It's one of those meals where I needed to eat before coming to the restaurant and i had 2 courses!

Went here with a group of friends before a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Everyone was pleased with their meals and the service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere was really quite charming. It was also pretty crowded, but we had made a reservation in advance.
