Our “2023 Chicago Deep Dish Challenge” continued with a logical next stop at local powerhouse Lou Malnati’s. Unfortunately our experience failed to rise up to reach the heights of their established positive reputation. While their deep dish offering wasn’t bad, it was disappointing and failed to impress in any category. The crust was not distinctive or memorable and finishing it felt optional (when the crust of a superior pizza simply demands that you consume every morsel). While the pizza was forgettable, the staff was not. Although our server was attentive, several other staff members dropped cups, silverware, and bowls so frequently as to actually distract from our meal. Also, their loud shouting and laughing amongst themselves made it appear that they were unaware that customers were even present and they acted as if they were in their college dorms or their personal living rooms. We hope to facilitate a “2024 Chicago Deep Dish Challenge” and sadly Lou’s will not be a participant. And that’s…Henry’s Take. #disappointingchicagopizza

We don't get the opportunity to go to Chicago too much anymore, so when we visited this past weekend, we made it a point to go to Lou Malnati's for a Chicago style pizza. It was delicious, as expected. We were seated right away and the service was quick and friendly. Next time we're in Chicago, we'll be back.

Great place from the time we walked in the door. Pizza was AWESOME!!! Fresh sauce made it even better.

The food was great but Management was rude for no reason, I knew I was not crazy when the staff apologized and another couple waiting to be served commented on the attitude. Will not be going back and would not recommend.

Excellent food and service. Ambient is good with a very good vibe. Service from the waiters was on point and excellent. Quality of ingredients are fresh and good tasting.

Besides that pizza, and i add like everything the one that you like its the best; and that theres a clearly different style between NY pizza and Chicago pizza: believe me: this place its a total disaster in all sense. First: its clear that this place has too many, and i really say too many good reviews that if someone like me made a bad review you will imagine that this guy must be wrong. Trust me: this is a bad place and i guess thats because too many people with good reviews create a monster at the owners with a free pass to do whatever they want. So if you want to be like an hour waiting to be seated, then expect the waiters treat you like whatever they want and eat tomato with bread this is the best place for do that.... Or you can just go to the entrance: take your IG photo and go to another place to try your Chicago pizza. Obviously, its different style but if you like pizza its good, not like this place that serves if you ask an italian "merda"

Pizza (or facsimile;-) but even without many expectations we were disappointed. 25min wait to sit, 30 min wait for pizza. We soon have a regular pizza to split in two: we were told we couldn't come to Chicago without tasting it, but nothing much. The idea of an “out of the box” pizza stuffed with cheese and mozzarella is nice. Ours despite being “daisy” also had sausage everywhere. Better a good burger!

With a group of six we pre ordered in advance at the restaurant with the promise of a 1hr15 min ending up waiting 1hr 45 min before getting the e mail. Once inside waited another 45 to be served our salads and drinks. Another 30 minutes later finally getting the pizza. Not fresh, lukewarm ! My husband had to wait another 10 minutes to receive a COLD pizza. Don't waste your time! After complaining my husband was offered free chicken wings in six minutes ! We had to remind our server after 20 minutes, and guess what ? They were cold !!! Finnaly they agreed to foot the bill for our drinks and salads, they had previously agrred to deducted the prices of the pizzas. Left very dissatisfied and hungry !

If you are in Chicago, like Italian food, don’t miss Lou Malineti’s. Everything was absolutely delicious. We had the meatball sandwich (fabulous), lasagna (incredible), and a sausage sandwich (amazing). We were exhausted after traveling and they even deliver-thank you so much. My mouth was watering as I wrote this review!

If you're a lifelong Chicagoan, like me, you have to be a connoisseur of pizza. Thin crust or deep dish? I prefer thin crust. And, of course, everyone has their favorite pizza parlor. Nearly every Top 10 list includes Pat's and Pequod's and Vito & Nick's and Lou Malnati's. My current favorite is Malnati's. It's my once-a-month pizza fix. Thin crust with cheese and sausage with extra sausage via home delivery from Malnati's location at 1120 North State Street in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood. I've sampled most of the other highly rated pizzas and Malnati's rates an edge. What makes the difference? Is it the mozzarella cheese from Wisconsin or the pecorino Romano cheese or the chunky tomatoes from California or the thin, chewy dough? Just enough cheese and tomato sauce, not too much. Put them all together and it makes for a very enjoyable meal while watching the Cubs on TV.

I went here with my husband on an anniversary trip having heard it was the absolute best in Chicago on YouTube. I was very disappointed because I expected great sauce. The sauce was delicious, but we got very little of it. All of the sauce had been dumped on one slice. We got “The Lou” for 2. It was cheesy bread with vegetables; it was not pizza! Pizza requires SAUCE! If our waitress had actually checked on us, I would have asked for sauce.

I’d leave 0 stars if they’d allow. I’ll never go there again. Waited an hour and 20 minutes for our pizza. Live in the neighborhood and eat that pizza often. They’ve never gotten the phone orders right and the service is terrible every time we’ve been there. I keep threatening to not go there but 2 nights ago was the last straw. I’ll never recommend it and I’ll go out of my way to discourage anyone I know from going there. They don’t deserve loyal customers. I’m out!

Horrible experience! The pizza was undercooked and manager had a terrible attitude! Hands down worst experience with a pizza! We had ordered 40 min before time so the deep dish pizza would be ready when we arrived. To our surprise, we waited another 25+ min. I ate a slice and noticed it was gooey and chewy, but didn’t pay much attention.. as I bit into other slice, I had to spit it out as it was raw/dough taste.. I looked at it and immediately saw it was undercooked. I asked for a manager and he didn’t even acknowledge that it was obviously undercooked. On the contrary, he was adamant that the pizza was supposed to be that way (with dough spots on it) and was safe to eat. He then suggested it be replaced with a thin crust. Meanwhile, my other friends have finished eating, table next to us had a pizza that did not look raw like mine.. they eat and leave… 30 minutes later, he arrives and asks if I want plates for it. At this point, I’m already feeling sick, hungry and upset that I did not get to enjoy my pizza. So I just say to go and ask for the check. He then has the audacity to still charge me for the undercooked pizza. My friend was in a hurry but I stay to talk to the manager. He stated that he did not understand the situation and thought that I was willing to eat the undercooked pizza and said that even if I did eat it, that their dough was safe to eat raw. I told him I was not feeling well and did not want to cause a scene and was trying to be nice about the situation. He then asks DO YOU NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL? I said no unless you have over the counter meds or a 24 hour site free of charge. He replied ITD BE 911. I was in shock!? What manager has the audacity to 1- charge for an undercooked pizza and 2- suggest to call 911 multiple times because I told him my stomach wasn’t feeling well. Horrible service! 1 star!

Stay away. Went at a random time on a weekday after arriving in Chicago for our first visit here. Was told 40 minutes for a wait, 2 hours later we were at a table. The hostess told us we couldn’t pre-order, another hostess told us we could so we did hoping it would save some time. No time saved. They don’t put your order in until you sit at table anyway. Pizza was not hot, not deep dish (except the crust) so disappointing for a first meal in Chicago. Encountered some very rude staff as well. Go anywhere else for deep dish pizza.

We wanted to experience a real Chicago pizza whilst in the city and this place was recommended by our hotel. We were really surprised when the waiter told us it would be up to 40 mins as everything is cooked fresh? I’ve worked in a pizza parlour with made to order pizza and it’s never taken that long to create n cook a pizza. We decided to wait and asked for a salad to be served with our pizza. Both arrived within the suggested time. The salad was plentiful and delicious. The pizza to serve two was four slices. Again maybe this is a cultural difference a four slice pizza in the UK would be for one person. Two people is at least six slices and in some pizza parlours you’d get eight? I guess it was our fault for not clarifying this in advance. The pizza was baked like a tart would in the UK which I’m guessing is what makes it a Chicago pizza. The whole experience would have been made better by a friendly n welcoming waiter but our waiter was very matter of fact or brusque in his approach.

Terrible, there is no worse pizza. The truth is that the ingredients and the warmth of the pizza are terrible. Anyone who has not tried a quality pizza will believe that it is something delicious, but even though the staff is attentive, the service is good and the place is very accessible, its quality is terrible I have not tried a worse flavor and its dough is terrible . It is really not recommended to eat in this place.

We went to the location at 1120 N. State St. There are many locations, but this one is in a beautiful part of town, with many other restaurants and designer stores all around. There was a lot of activity to watch as we sat at our outdoor table. Great service, and when they made a mistake with our order, the manager came out and offered us a free appetizer and drinks to make up for it. I would definitely go back.

My wife and I are visiting Chicago and we’re walking around the city and wanted pizza again because I feel like Chicago is know for pizza so we came to Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria. We was promptly seated and our waiter was Pedro. He was great. He told us the pizza takes 30-35 minutes to cook. We sat in the outside eating area and enjoyed the look and sounds of a large city. My wife got a side salad which was large and fresh. The pizza was absolutely worth the wait. We ordered the thin crust. The crust was crispy and very good. We ordered sausage, pepperoni with green peppers. This pizza was absolutely delicious. Very relaxing to sit in the outside area. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Was on vacation last August of 2022. Wanted to try a Chicago style pizza. Got the veggie. It was delicious.(EXCELLENT) Told my Chicago family how good it was. They heard me. Got back home to GA. Went online to oder more pizzas to be shipped, 2 for me and two for my sister. Once we received them they were nothing like our first experience. The crust was extremely hard. We followed the cooking directions. Well, my Chicago family sent me a 100.00 gift card as a Mother's Day gift. I ordered two more pizzas and today, 6/29/2023 I cooked the cheese pizza. Remembering how the others turnd out, I let it sit a little while before baking. I was sooooo dissatisfied. That crust is ridiculously hard. I have one left in the freezer I wish I could send it back. In addition, I still have about 10.00 left on the gift card. They need to do something about that crust on the pizzas that are shipped. It can't possibly be the same as the one in the restaurant.

I adore deep-dish pizza, so this place is an absolute treasure - their pizzas are out of this world. We ordered cheese pizzas to share, and even though it takes a while for the pizzas to be ready, they're absolutely worth it. You can join the waitlist of r table online, and I see that they ship their pizzas.

Wow, this deep dish was amazing! It was our first time in Chicago and our first deep-dish pizza! Lou's pizza was fresh, the dough buttery with just the right crunch, and the ingredients top-notch. The service was also fantastic. Would highly recommend!

Easily one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. The first time we visited, we waited 10 minutes to get in , which was fine. After being seated we were excited to order and a deep dish. We waited for a server for 20 minutes. Even after asking if a server could come over, no one came. We left and no one even noticed! Oh well, maybe we were just unlucky. Tried again a few days later. We were wait listed for 40 mins, received our text to say our table was ready and went back to find they couldn’t find our booking. They weren’t going to let us in but reluctantly agreed after I showed them the text they had sent! We were served quickly but then waited an hour and 10 mins for our food. Very disappointing experience. The staff just don’t care.

Local chain serving up Chicago style deep dish pizza. Service was a bit slow, and it was a long wait for the pizza. The pizza was delicious although a bit too soupy to my liking. Definitely one of the best places for deep dish pizza in Chicago but from my standpoint, can't say that this is the best. The beauty of deep-dish pizza in Chicago is that there are many options, and everyone has their own tastebuds on what is "best"

Besides being overpriced the pizza was average. Nothing special that I tasted. $9.00 for an average size draft beer was high.

Loved this place! Visiting from the UK we wanted to try a deep dish pizza and this did not disappoint! Lucky we decide to share between three of us as portion was huge. Our server Mark was great, very quick, good tips of what to order and friendly!

The waiting time was quite lengthy. However, the pizza turned out to be one of the best dip-dish pizzas we've ever had. Highly recommend

Visited this restaurant with my Dad & Sons on a baseball trip. We wanted to try the Chicago deep dish and it did not disappoint. Staff was friendly & helpful. Everything was better than expected. Staff was the best. Try this place if want a great meal.

Great deep dish pizza and salad. Smells so wonderful when you walk in. Their house salad dressing is so good, I bought a bottle to take home back to Las Vegas. The pizza was cooked perfectly. Although it is deep dish, the crust is still thin, buttery, and crispy. Another Chicago must do, and would highly recommend. Our server was on point and extremely friendly. Would highly recommend and would definitely return.

Enjoyed lunch at Lou Malnati. Appreciate that the waiter pointed out the lunch special which included salad with a generously sized personal pizza. The butter crust makes it a unique offering among all the Chicago pizza offerings.

When visiting Chicago you have to try deep dish and this was right by our hotel. The atmosphere is chilled although busy, they have tv's in the dining area playing the latest sports games. The service was good and quick. The deep dish wasn't for us as it is very thick but tasty and the mozzarella bites were to die for! In hindsight we could have done without a starter.

The Malnati's WORLD FAMOUS. Pizza place. Disappointed us. I came in at 12 and sitting from an hour. Already placed the order. They just did the water service and then disappeared.. what the heck. I got the suggestion for this place from a dear friend of mine. But I am cursing her along with the restaurant management now. The WORLD FAMOUS DEEP DISH PIZZA PLACE failed to serve us.

Fantastic pizza with a very nice crispy bottom We were there when doing a foodie bicycle tour around Chicago Definitely recommend

Delicious taste. Expected more substance to crust. But overall great experience. Staff was not real friendly. Restaurant was clean

Just got screwed over by this pizza place! Would never recommend thrm. We ordered a medium pizza and they delivered a small something and basically said we were out of luck! Won’t recommend them!

Great pizza and salad! We split a small deep dish (two pieces each) and a salad (more than we could eat). Both were delicious. We had Giordano’s the day before and this was way better! Fresh tomatoes, flavorful sauce, and a great crust. Loved it!

Lou Malnati's Pizzeria is a Chicago icon, serving up some of the best deep-dish pizza in the city. Their signature butter-crust, rich tomato sauce, and gooey cheese create a perfect balance of flavors in every bite. The Malnati Chicago Classic, loaded with sausage, is a must-try for first-timers. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout. Service is friendly, and while deep-dish takes time to bake, it’s always worth the wait. If you’re looking for an authentic Chicago pizza experience, Lou Malnati’s is a must-visit.

Ambience is great; service is wonderful. The salad with mushroom and olive was awesome. The Dish Pizza itself was disappointing as there were way too many slices of fresh tomatoes which were very juicy; hence made the pizza very soggy. It had spinach and lots of cheese. Needed black olive or something and they should either put less fresh tomatoes, roast them first or something to avoid sogginess.

The pizza was surprisingly bland--we had to add salt to make it taste like much. We did the lunch special, which was a good deal with a personal pizza and then either soup or salad. The Malnati's Salad was delicious and we'd order that again any time. One of us added the spinach mix to the cheese pizza and, again, there just wasn't much flavor to it. We didn't have a long wait, though, and our server was friendly and helpful.

We went to the one by the Loop. The location is kinda cool. Down stairs in a basement. The place was decorated nicely. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. The place is kinda small for the traffic. So Yea, what's the big deal with Chicago deep dish? This is our first time. Well, it is different than NYC pizza for sure. A league of their own. We ordered the original because I wanted to compare pizza vs pizza. We also had to wait an additional 25 minutes for the pizza, so don't come here in a hurry. The pizza, It was good in its own way. Saucy and full of sausage. Good flavor. Thick crust and crunchy. For me, there are 3 groups of pizza places now. NY, New Haven, and now Chicago, in that order. All different. All good. I'll be back.

They have the best gluten free pizza I ever had. It has been a while since I enjoyed my pizza this much. It deserve every calorie you get

I love Lou Malnati's and we hit this location around 11:30AM on a Saturday after walking a few miles up and back from Willis Tower, at the moment there was no wait! My husband had never had Lou's so we went for the cheesy bread, Lou's salad, and a small (he was questioning my judgement) deep dish with sausage/pepperoni/mushroom/peppers. The food did NOT disappoint, and of course my husband was grateful I had only ordered a small pizza as we walked out with half of it leftover back to our hotel. Service was friendly and great, the location was bustling given the location and it appeared we had literally beaten the big rush as there was a huge wait as we walked out.

I phoned in my usual order and was informed the delivery would take 45 minutes to an hour. "Just in time for the basketball game," I said. This is no exaggeration. My large, thin crust, cheese and sausage pizza with extra sausage arrived in 40 minutes and it was so hot that I had to wait a few minutes before indulging. That's the way it is with Lou Malnati's Pizzeria at 1120 North State Street in Chicago. Fast, efficient, delicious. The best tasting pizza I've ever had. And I've been eating pizza since the late 1940s, before most people had ever heard of pizza. In my view, what separates Malnati's pizza from its competitors? Just enough tomato sauce and cheese but not too much. Tangy sausage, not pepperoni. Cut into two or three-bite squares. I've sampled Malnati's signature deep dish but I always have preferred thin crust. I consume a large pizza at one sitting without feeling bloated. Gone are the days when I munched on cold leftover pizza the following day. Malnati's is too good to leave leftovers.

I am Celiac and finding great deep dish is a challenge. We were in town 2 days and even my non-Celiac daughter chose to eat there twice. It is 1 of the main reasons we go to Chicago. The location on State Street has a great patio!

My husband and I ordered the small Chicago Pizza and it fed both of us. It was delicious and filling. We ordered the signature pizza, had great flavor and loved the "Chicago" crust. Our server answered our questions was friendly.

Had to try a deep dish pizza whilst in Chicago. Locals can’t agree on where’s best, but Lou Malnati’s is considered the oldest name in the city. They have multiple branches in Chicago, & a few outside of it. I opted for the Gold Coast location. It was a great experience, with a warm welcome & friendly attentive service. The pizza was excellent. The deep dish take 30 minutes to prepare, but was worth it.

We had a medium deep dish for 2 which fed us for dinner and breakfast the next morning. The crust was buttery and soft and the filling was thick and tasty. The wait time was 45 mins for take out and over an hour to dine in so would recommend making a reservation.

We ordered a pizza to go and it took too long. Was told 30 minutes, after 45 minutes, we asked and they said it was ready, went to the back and brought it out. We can understand being busy but not too busy that you make us wait when our food was ready already and those we came after us starting getting their food already.

Chicago is to pizza what London is to fish and chips. In fact, Chicago invented deep dish pizza. There is a pizza parlor on every corner. Everybody has a favorite pizza restaurant. Who makes the best pizza? I've been chewing on pizza since the late 1940s, since I indulged in cold leftovers the morning after one of my parents' parties. Since then, I've sampled many pizzas from many pizzerias. Truth be told, like chocolates, I've never tasted a bad pizza. And now I think I have discovered the best of all, the best thin crush cheese and sausage pizza I have ever tasted. Malnati's. The chain was founded in suburban Lincolnwood in 1971 and now numbers more than 80 locations, including more than 60 in Illinois. Others are in Arizona, Indiana and Wisconsin. The location at 1120 North State Street is closest to us, next to the former Barnes & Noble book store, in the bustling State/Wabash/Division restaurant area. Personally, I've never been caught up in the deep dish excitement. My order always is large thin crust cheese and sausage with extra sausage. Malnati's hits the spot. Great taste. Never filling. Chewy, light crust. Not too much cheese. Tangy, tasty sausage. A different taste from any other pizza I've ever tasted. No exaggeration. It took me about 30 years to discover Malnati's. But I'm glad I finally did.

Many people recommended this place. Appetizers and salad were great but pizza… average. Sauce good but cheese was poor: not really tasty and texture was way below average. Sadly dissapointing.

Have to try the pizza in Chicago. Was okay, but cost an arm and a leg. I got the smallest pizza. Looks like I’m in the minority though.

We ordered a medium custom pizza—it was slightly pricey, but the generous portion gave us leftovers for the next day. The quality more than justified the cost: wonderfully cheesy with vibrant, fresh toppings. Plus, sipping a beer while waiting for the pizza added a relaxed, enjoyable touch to the whole experience. Highly recommend!

We visited Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria with high hopes, having heard positive things about their gluten-free offerings. Due to severe gluten and dairy allergies, we ordered the gluten-free thin crust pizza without cheese and clearly communicated—on multiple occasions—that we had serious allergies and required extra caution to avoid cross-contamination. Unfortunately, despite these repeated requests, we suffered one of the worst allergic reactions and episodes of food-related intoxication we have ever experienced. While the flavor and quality of the pizza were, admittedly, very good, we must emphasize that this restaurant is not a safe option for individuals with gluten or dairy allergies. Based on our experience, the gluten-free pizza appears to be exposed to gluten, rendering it unsafe for those with celiac disease or similar medical conditions. Additionally, the individual handling takeout orders—who mentioned his wife also has allergies—was notably unkind and dismissive when we tried to reiterate the importance of allergy precautions. His lack of empathy and professionalism only added to our concern. We sincerely hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and revisits its allergy protocols, staff training, and kitchen handling procedures. In the meantime, we strongly caution anyone with food allergies to avoid dining here until clear improvements are made. We would not want anyone else to go through what we did.

We have a dinner at Lou Malnatis. We have to wait more than 1 hour for our pizza. What a terrible service!! Stay away from this place unless you want to wait for more than 1 hour!

Tasty! And delicious!! You must come and eat a deep dish pizza. The place is nice and the service is excellent

Simple taste, cheesy Chicago Classic. Problem for me is the crust was hard, it was difficult to cut with the butter knife they give you. Purchased sampler platter for starter that was nice. We went at opening, by the time we finished it was an 1.5 hr wait, avoid the lunch hour if you can. Michigan Ave restaurant.

Lou‘s pizza is the best in the world and nothing from New Jersey New York or anywhere else compares. Don’t let anyone fool you. It’s the best ever, period.

Amazing pizza! The deep dish was incredible. The Caesar salad was one of the best I’ve ever had; however, I would definitely ask for no tomatoes on it next time. Overall, highly recommend!

Second trip in one week because the large pizza was good. Went back for an individual (single slice sized) pizza and requested Italian beef just as we did on Sunday night (no upcharge). I was charged 18.50 for my tiny slice with very little amount of Italian beef and was upcharged 4 dollars. Poor service and they refused to correct the over charge. Filed complaint and no call back from management. They charged 7.50 for a 12 oz Samuel Adams which is pricey. They advertise single serving pizzas for much cheaper than they actually charge.

We had lunch here as it was near our hotel and were really happy with the food and service. The three cheese bread is amazing and our pasta dishes were so tasty although very large!

Our 1st ever Chicago deep pan pizza it had high expectations coming from the UK this was our first meal since arriving, local time was 7pm….for us 1am….but we had to try it, we were quickly seated by the bar the staff especially the bar man was super friendly, the pizza took 35 minutes which we were told and expected and wow…..best pizzas ever, so fresh tasting, the crack as you bite into the crispy base….it was amazing, we will never each Chicago pizza in the UK…..it is no where near the good, we will be back

More than a dish, Chicago deep-dish pizza is an experience worth trying at least once in your life. Anyone looking for an Italian pizza will be disappointed. In fact, Chicago's deep-cut pizza has completely different textures and flavors, which hark back a bit to the '80s, with its disproportionate quantity of sauce, cheese and oregano. The dough itself is more like a pastry, which keeps its fragrance intact thanks to the pan in which it is served. All this reaches its peak at Lou Malnati's, a true institution in the city. We wait a lot, but the wait is rewarded.

Oh my! Absolutely by far the best deep dish I’ve ever had. I am a lover of crust and it was melt in your mouth buttery. The plum tomatoes are also the star in these pizzas. Wonderful, attentive waitress.

The.best.pizza.ever. Truly great good and worth the wait! It is always busy, wait times to get in can be long and the wait time for your deep dish pizza will be long (40m). All that said, it was delicious and really enjoyed it. Malnati salad is awesome, ravioli ouffs are amazing... lasagna was good, but pizza was incredible.

We didn’t like it, “Lou’s special” not enough cheese and flooded with tomatoes toppings and as well under crust runny water. It didn’t meet our expectation's, but anyway people have different taste bud.

While in Chicago you’ve gotta get the Chicago deep dish pizza ...... Well we did. It was good. More greasy than our western style ... Very limited selection (2 kinds) but I guess that is what you get in this part of the country.. Very good though!! And the cheesy bread was excellent. 2017

October 2023! Chicago Marathon Where is best to load up on Carbs well.here we have it! A good friend of ours had recommended this joint for deep dish pizza to us and it happened to be just down the road from our hotel! We wandered in early of a Friday evening and it was very quite! We were seated straight away and given menus by Angela! Angela came for our order shortly after and we ordered the personal deep dish and small deep dish! Angela gave us the heads up that pizza was about 30 mins behind but we didn't mind it's a lovely location! So we got our pizza and I swear since I came back to Ireland I'm still thinking about the pizza It was Amazing! But like a personal would have done between the 2 of us defo! We certainly left some behind & the chips we totally did not need! Angela was the nicest server and so friendly she totally made our visit more enjoyable! All in it worked out at about $49! Plus it was so good we came back on the Sunday night with family Wait was crazy but soooo worth it! Go visit!

Our cab driver recommended this restaurant and our hotel gave us a coupon for a free appetizer. The Bruschetta was a large portion and it was yummy! My friend and I shared a salad and both got a small pizza and all of the portions are very large and everything was delicious! We would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Went here as a big group and got loads of sharing pizza. They gave us plenty food, we weren’t even able to finish it all. Good proper Chicago deep dish pizza, and lovely staff.

My husband and I ate here on a food tour, and WOW! This pizza was AMAZING and SO FRESH! We couldn’t believe the freshness- and since they have their own tomato fields and dairy farm for fresh ingredients- it very much shows in the final product. Loved learning of the rich business history as well. Very cool place. We cannot wait to come back with our kids! A MUST try if you’re in Chicago!

Great service. Great pizza. Waitress pointed out it's about 35 mins for a deep dish so tempted us with some chicken wings while we waited, and they were fabulous. Medium pizza was too much for the two of us after sharing wings so they kindly boxed up the leftovers. Carrying it out, you realise how heavy a deep dish is compared to a thin crust -it's a whole lot of food and all good.

Awesome pizza and great atmosphere! The thin and crispy pizza was delish! Highly recommend it! Our server was friendly and attentive. Just make sure you plan on waiting as this place is normally busy!

Amazing! Fabulous! The best pizza! I can not say enough about how great our meal was. The Italian margarita was the best! So fresh! Twe got the chocolate chip cookie pizza to go for dessert and it was perfect dessert!

Lou Malnati’s crushed it — the deep dish was everything it’s hyped up to be and more. That buttery crust, tangy sauce, and perfect balance of toppings? Pure comfort food heaven. But honestly, as good as the pizza was, our server Isabella was the real standout. She was incredibly patient while I built the world’s most complicated pizza order. Most servers would’ve needed a timeout halfway through — not Isabella. She just smiled, rolled with it, and nailed every detail. Friendly, funny, totally on the ball — she made us feel like regulars even though it was our first time here. The food will bring you in, but service like Isabella’s is what makes you come back. Someone give that woman a raise… or at least let her cut to the front of the staff pizza

The deep-dish pizza was outstanding—bursting with rich, bold flavors and wonderfully satisfying. Our server was fantastic, and we genuinely loved every moment of our meal. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in town!

Okay we got there at 11:45 in the morning. the place was pretty empty... we had to wait about 10 minutes to get welcomed and put in a drink order. then they dropped off drinks and took 15 more minutes to take order... come on folks...Its like they wanted to build up a wait .... food took about 25 to 30 to come out as expected for a pizza, not problem It was a bit overcooked but still good. Waiter even said this is extra crispy... That was the last we saw him till he dropped off the bill and then took 15 minutes to come back and pick up... needless to say the service was very poor. Pizza was average. I would order take out next time... there are plenty of other places that have better service if you want to eat in...

I am actually trying to reach the Headquarters office - hopefully, they will see this. WHY on earth will you not permit each couple, with separate checks, both collect their Malnati's points? It makes NO sense. Last evening we joined another couple, both had alcohol drinks, pizza and salad. Each check was well over $100.00 - $243.00 total. When we wanted to provide our contact info for our points, the Server said they were not permitted to do so! Seriously? OK - so next time, my husband and I will sit at the bar, or another table and, after our order is placed, we'll join our friends. How ridiculous! Please take a look at this.

I'm not a food critic but I know a good thing when I eat it. Like pizza. After spending a week in New York City and sampling a few Neapolitan pies that New Yorkers think they invented, then returning to Chicago and chowing down on a Malnati's pizza, I have come to the conclusion that (1) New York-style pizza is better than I thought it was and (2) Malnati's is even better. You can't beat a Malnati-made, Chicago-style thin crust cheese and sausage pizza. And it took me 30 years to realize it. Located at 1120 North State Street, Lou Malnati's Pizzeria is part of a chain that includes 80 locations in Chicago, Indianapolis, Milwaukee and Phoenix. Truth be told, we rarely dine at the site. We prefer home delivery. We live four blocks from the State Street address and delivery is swift, hot out of the oven. I enjoy sitting in front of my TV, pizza in one hand and a video switcher in the other, changing from one sporting event to another. I've sampled several difference pizza parlors over the years and Malnati's is the best. Thin crust cheese and sausage with extra sausage. Soft but chewy crust. Just enough cheese. Tangy sausage. Even though I always order the large size, and I always consume every slice, I never feel bloated. Always contented.

Definitely join the online waitlist before you walk in. Gluten-free crust option is not good. The crust was very tough and had no flavor. There are other options for gluten-free (salads, etc). The regular Chicago Classic was fantastic. The crust is absolutely amazing - all parts of the pizza were so delicious. Great ambience and friendly staff. Those cheese cubes on the appetizer combo platter are amazing. It’s like a party in your mouth.

As a foodie, you have to try this place. It’s a great pizza, great atmosphere. Highly recommend that you go early, pre order or not mind waiting. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

Tonight's meal was excellent, and the service was outstanding. We immediately decided which restaurant we wanted to choose for our 25th anniversary celebration. The evening was made even more memorable by the delicious and expertly prepared cuisine. We were made to feel quite welcome by the attentive staff. Without a doubt, we'll be back for more festivities!

Food was great. They took special care to get kids food out fast. Also had a small issue of one personal pan pizza that was mixed up with another tables. I told them but also said that I had no problem just having and enjoying the one that was delivered. They comp’ed it anyways. Service was top notch. Their butter crust is amazing.

The Pizza is amazing and definitely coming back and dont forget about the amazing, comfortable and friendly atmosphere.

Reasonable priced lunch for Gold Coast. However, you will be nickel and dimed for any extras. My husband and I both ordered the lunch specials. While we were waiting we asked for bread. The waitress said sure, but didn’t tell us it was an additional charge. When my salad arrived, it didn’t have enough dressing so I asked for additional dressing. My husbands pasta was dry, so he asked for more sauce. It was not until we received the bill, that we found out about all the extra charges. The charges were not a lot of money ($0.75 for bread and butter, $0.59 for dressing, and $1.95 for sauce). However, I was disappointed about not being told about the extra charges, especially when in most restaurants what we asked for would be free. Not enough dressing for salad, and dry pasta is something most restaurants would gladly try to rectify without charging extra. Unfortunately, I didn’t take pictures of the salad, and the dry pasta to post with this review. I have attached the bill to show the extra charges. We didn’t make a fuss since we didn’t want to blame the waitress if this was how the restaurant wanted to operate. Servers already have a hard enough job. I doubt we will be back. There are other places in the area that have better customer service, with food that are just as good or better.

Stopped here for my first meal on a Chicago visit. The lunch special was a good value, and the pizza was outstanding. The service was great too.

For me, Lou Malnati's wins the deep dish war over Giordano!! I prefer the crust, the sausages, the sauce. The sons like the other one! This is the store on Michigan Ave. LONG wait times. 1 hour. So we gave our names and walked around till our allotted time. Got the table at the said time. This is in the basement. Seated promptly and ordered taken. As the deep dish is a min 40 min wait, you potter around. Once it came, took the pics and dug in. A standard 12" was enough for 3 of us. We had one smaller Veg pizza as a variety. As above I loved it. Would be back any day. But cannot eat it alone!!

A classic, the deep dish The Lou stood to its reputation, a Bloody Mary in honor of Mama Rachel, made this evening very enjoyable, but the corner banquette was away from the real atmosphere.

This was good. But it wasn’t great! We had heard that this was one of the best, and it certainly was crowded, and the pizzas were good, but they tasted like typical Chicago deep dish pizzas. Nothing extraordinary to differentiate from other Chicago deep dish pizzas. And although the service staff was efficient, they were a bit rushed, because so many people were there. It really was quite quite crowded, which meant that it was tricky to get another pint or a refill on something. I had an Aperol spritz; we had the bruschetta, then we had a large deep dish, Chicago classic, and a personal deep dish called the Lou. Since the Lou was named after the owner, I thought it would be rather special, but it, again, just really felt like regular Chicago deep dish pizza. We expected the Chicago classic to be somewhat… Classic… But I thought the Lou would have a little more something special going on. Three out of five.

Although I was raised on NYC and New Haven style pizza, I also love a great deep dish pizza and Malnati’s more than hits the mark. Amazing butter crust and my Lou Special was oozing with three cheeses, garlic spinach and topped with fresh tomatoes. Wonderful balance of density and flavors. There are multiple locations but the quality isn’t compromised. Great service and also very salads to complement the pizza.

We ordered 2 beers on tap and the LOU small deep dish pizza, cooked well done. The pizza came out perfect. It was done so there is no soft crust and not burnt. We enjoyed every bite. We did add salt but we usually always have to add a little salt to our pizzas. Remember it takes about 30-40 mins to make one of these pies so if u r starving u better order a salad to help you wait for the deep dish pizza. The staff were all very friendly especially the bartender. Also if u like watching sports they have 3 TVs and they will put on any channel u would like to watch. We definitely will return.

We were excited to try Lou Malnati's after a glowing recommendation from a DHS agent, but it didn’t quite live up to expectations. Our server was friendly and explained the longer deep-dish wait times, which was fine. Drinks took a long time (we had to flag a manager), and a beer was misidentified. Appetizers came quickly, but some of our follow-up bites never arrived. The deep dish pizza was undercooked and the pasta was cold-ish. The bruschetta, however, was great. Overall, it felt like a misfire. We’d be willing to try again in better circumstances.

When we got there we had to wait for 1:30 to be seated. And there were several tables empty. I guess they do that only so people think they are all full. The pizza is excellent as well as the drinks. As we had pre-ordered as soon as we seat the pizza was served. However, we wanted to order more after eat and the waitress said it would take at least 30 minutes to prepare another pizza, which was a deal breaker. Anyways, good ambient and food, once you get a table.

we stayed at the hotel next door...first experience with chicago pizza...we had the recommended deep dish chicago classic...it was fantastic...pieces cut huge...you eat with a fork and knife...i marked down one point because the metal chair was very uncomfortable and you have to wait quite a while for the pizza to cook...worth the wait and highly recommend

Gets very busy, first time we got a table right away, 2nd time we had to wait 45 minutes for a table. Got the penne pasta with meatballs, huge portion would do 3 meals. Tasted very good. Its busy so can be noisy. You have to wat around 45 minutes for a deep dish pizza

Very good restaurant to have the chance to taste the famous deep-dish crust pizza! The atmosphere is nice, the staff is quite American-style but very friendly, especially think about tips, tips are vital for the staff.

We chose this over other options because we could get a reservation. We’re from out of town and wanted the real experience. We were there with a native Chicagoan. It was very very good. Service was great, drink selection was terrific, great ambience. Pizza was very good. However, we were fortunate enough to get seated at Gino’s East the next night and all I can say is if you have a choice go to Gino’s East.

Definitely worth the wait, food is delicious and the staff is wonderful. Unfortunately no pictures because we devoured our food by the time we realized that we forgot to take a picture.

Great service. Pizza was good too, nice they had gluten free option! Husband and I don’t think we LOVE deep dish, but was still good. Excellent beer!

I visited the Lou Malnati's Pizzeria located at 410 N. Michigan Avenue, right across the Chicago River, not far from Riverwalk. Excellent experience. Service was prompt and friendly, and it was without doubt the very best deep dish pizza I've had. Very tasty, great sauce, crispy crust - but not too bready or heavy like some pretenders. Highly recommend this place! A terrific slice of Chicago. Make a reservation - it gets' crowded.

My boyfriend and I went to Lou Malnati for dinner and it was great. The space is very inviting and the service was great. We had the Louie Special Pizza which has Spinach, mushrooms and fresh tomatoes. It was wonderful. I would highly recommend.

Had pizza here 2 times while visiting Chicago. Nice martini/cocktail selection. Pizza with fresh tomatoes added was delicious.

Lou’s traditional pizza’s are all really good. The Lou deep dish we ordered was delicious and we loved it! The butter crust was really flavorful and rustic. The fresh ripe tomatoes on top really added a nice touch. Where I was really disappointed with the speciality buffalo pizza, they more than delivered on the traditional menu listed pizza offerings. All their pizzas are really good. I think because I ordered the “buffalou” specialty the first day it was on the menu, they may have had to work out the pizza techs a bit when creating them in the kitchen. The Italian beef was excellent. The beef was so tender and they generously packed meat and peppers on the bread. Very good with the au jus on the side. In any case, pizzas are always hot, service is always very good and they follow-up with you if there’s any issue with your order to make it right. Carryout area is fast and efficient.

Good Chicago style pizza in the city. Seemed to be one of the few that had available tables on a Monday night. Food good. Reasonably priced. Good service.

I wasn’t planning on liking this pizza but I did. My wife and I went here to try Chicago deep dish for the first time. I was warned that it is very different from what I might be used to. It was. It’s very thick and saucy. We ordered a small original with a salad. (Plenty of food for 2). I really enjoy it. Don’t go thinking you’re eating thin crust and you’ll enjoy your dinner.

They keep us waiting too long to be a group of 5 although they had tables available. Your service hours are until 11 pm and although you arrive 10:35 you are treated in a despot and unkind way

Oh dear, half an hour just to get a drink. Pizzas, in effect, a quiche or flan. Quite nice, but service was so slow I nearly walked out.

I'm back in Sweet Home Chicago after a long and exhausting but thoroughly enjoyable visit to Los Angeles, my first visit to Tinsel Town since 1971. I'm hungry and trying to decide what to eat and where to eat it. Pizza or ribs or Italian beef or steak or fish or Thai or Big Mac or Whopper? In my mind, the answer is a no-brainer. Nobody, from New York to Los Angeles, from Miami to San Francisco, from New Orleans to Seattle, makes pizza like Chicago. Chicago is a pizza town. But who makes the best pizza? Who makes the top 10 list? Who is No. 1? What is your favorite? Deep dish or thin crust? Pequod's? Pizano's? Pat's Pizzeria? Giordano's? Gino's East? Lou Malnati's? Zazas? Roots? Pizzeria Porofino? Pizzeria Uno? Take your pick. Judge for yourself. My old-time favorites--O Fame, Father & Son and Bella Luna--have closed. My new favorite is Lou Malnati's at 1120 North State Street, where Rush Street and Bellevue Place converge with State Street at Mariano Park to form the celebrated Viagra Triangle. Love Malnati's pizza. Just the way I like it. Every delivery, fast and hot. Large thin crust cheese and sausage, with a double helping of sausage. Cut in three-bite squares. Light but chewy crust. Not too much cheese. Not too much tomato sauce. Plenty of tangy and tasty sausage. Never a leftover. They don't make 'em like this anywhere else.

We ordered delivery, and we loved the pizzas. We ordered the buffalo chicken and the Lou on thin crust. They both were delicious! I definitely recommend this place for pizza!

Server recommended we order pizza before drinks or appetizers as there would be a 45 minute wait - which we did. We had to call him back to order drinks and appetizers …. Unfortunately 2 of the 3 appetizers arrived 5 minutes before the mains and one didn’t arrive until we asked for it - which was after the mains had arrived. The chicken appetizer was wonderful, the calamari was cold. Server kindly removed the last appetizer from the bill and realising we hadn’t had the greatest experience, offered us free dessert as well. We declined as we knew we wouldn’t be able to eat it. He could have offered the beer my husband had just ordered as an alternative but did not. The deep pan pizzas were really good! Like nothing we have had before. Facilities wise, the restaurant temperature was ‘ok’ on arrival but once we were eating - was too warm. If you don’t like a noisy vibe - avoid. The restrooms were worse than the beautifully maintained public facilities along the closeby river walk! The worst we have experienced anywhere after a week in the States. Overflowing bins and dirty. Other customers were complaining as well. Pizza here is fab. Get a take out instead of sitting in.

Had to try deep dish pizza. After asking several people, we found each highly recommended this pizzeria….we decided to try it. They were extremely busy but the wait for two was only 15 minutes. The pizza took 30-40 minutes but was worth the wait! It was delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant! Look up the history…. One of the first deep dish pizzerias in Chicago! There are several locations. We chose the one by the Wriggly Building…. Might have actually been in the building…. Not sure.

I'm baaaaaack. 2024 was a disaster. Shingles, rheumatoid arthritis, sciatica and, finally, surgery for a right hip replacement. And, sadly, my wife was diagnosed with dementia and has been admitted to a nursing home for memory care. So I'm living the life of a bachelor and hoping for a better 2025. I'm used to cooking my own meals. Potash on Clark, my faithful and always attentive grocer, sees to all my needs. And Lou Malnati's Pizzeria at 1120 North State Street still produces the best pizza in town. I order delivery every two or three weeks and it never disappoints. Large, thin crust cheese and sausage pizza with extra sausage. Not too much cheese, just enough tomato sauce. Cut into chewy, delicious pieces. And it always arrives hot and fresh, as if he just came out of the oven. It's good to know that some things never change.

Would not order from this location. Ordered a pizza at 527 PM and 2 hours later it has still not arrived. When asked why the pizza was late they said we would have to talk to the app programmers in order to get an answer for this. Did not offer an apology or anything to make up for this.

Am not impressed. We waited a long time for the appetizer that took longer than the meal. The place was not very clean and the wait to eat was excessive. Wouldn't recommend.

We were so excited to eat real deep-dish pizza in Chicago that we waited in line for 20 minutes to put our name on the list for a table, then another line to order two pizzas. We then had to wait an hour for a text that the table was ready. Excited to finally be at a table but noticed the floor and tables were so sticky it was hard to walk, We ordered sodas and a family-style salad with sweet house dressing. It was very fresh and served as a wonderful appetizer. The pizza still took at least 40 minutes to arrive. We ordered the Lou and smaller gluten-free Lou for me. We all thought it was dry, and the flavor was off because it tasted as though it had cheddar and swiss as well as mozzarella, but not enough mozzarella. We should have just gotten a cheese deep dish as the Lou was a hard no and cost more. Had spinach and tomatoes but no sauce that we could tell. Four adults could not finish a small and a medium pizza because it wasn't that tasty. I didn't want a to-go box for the gluten-free crust. If you must eat gluten-free as I do, it was a terrible value. I spent $40 for just myself and was disappointed. The bathroom was quite filthy. I would say that, based on the server's conversation, they were short-handed, and it was very crowded on the Labor Day weekend that we were there. I would give it another try if I ever return to Chicago but would order online and reserve a table online, and I think that can be put together to make it faster. Also, I would order a cheese pizza with several glasses of wine.

Everyone loves pizza. You can't avoid it. There is a pizza parlor on every block. Thin crust, deep dish, Chicago, New York, Detroit, St. Louis, California, Miami/Cuban, Milan, Neapolitan, Hawaiian, Sicilian, Roman, Margherita, Greek, even Quad City. Everybody boasts that they produce the best pizza in town. Every newspaper and magazine and food critic authors a "10 best pizza" contest. But who does make the best pizza? Ask 10 people and you'll get 10 different answers. Over the years, I thought I had found the best on a few occasions. Two of them went out of business. One thing I have learned: No two pizzas are alike. Sample any number of pizzas and all of them have a different taste, a different texture, more tomato, less tomato, more cheese, less cheese, some chewier than others. tangy meat, not-so-tangy meat. And I'm not even talking about pizza with such ingredients as anchovy, pineapple, broccoli, pepperoni, black olives, green peppers, mushrooms and onions. All I want is a large thin crust cheese and sausage pizza -- with extra sausage. In my view, Lou Malnati does it better than anyone else. I order delivery from Malnati's Gold Coast Pizzeria at 1120 North State Street. Cut into small three-bite squares, Malnati's pizza features a chewy, soft crust with just enough tomato sauce and cheese to satisfy my taste. And, strange as it may sound, it offers a taste unlike any pizza I have ever tasted. I can't get enough of it. And delivery is fast, too, like the pizza just came out of the oven.

Excellent deep dish pizza. Iconic. We also had the spaghetti - the red sauce was acidic and flavorful, with good texture. 10/10 would eat here again

We just happened upon this restaurant whilst in the area. The entrance from the street and going downstairs is a bit unprepossessing. But, when we got to the restaurant our view changed. A great ambience. We had a family salad between two and bruschetta. Suffice to say the portions were more than we could manage. The food was great. The recommended beer a delight. All made possible by our amazing server. .

Best pizza I've tasted in a long time! The place is always full, we did like two hours of waiting, while you can go and tour the shops. The salad and pizza were spectacular! A pizza that was worth the wait.

Lou Malnati's serves the most amazing Chicago Deep Dish Pizza - they call it "The Malnati" and it has a thin, almost crunch deep dish crust filled with cheese, their amazing house sausage and great sauce (not sweet). We had them add their Spinach Mix and Mushrooms to the pie, and it made it absolutely perfect! The Bruschetta we had for appetizers was also great. Nice local beer selection, and good wines available by the glass, too. The Bruschetta to share and a small deep dish were plenty for two for dinner.

Great evening with delicious deep dish pizza. Outstanding service from Elayne who was super friendly, knowledgable and ensured we had a great time!

Location a bit chaotic, keep in mind that waiting times for pizza are about 40/45 min, so if you are in a hurry it is not the place for you! We tried the classic Chicago style pizza and the deep dish. The dough looks more like shortcrust pastry than pizza. It stands for a casual lunch or dinner, but of course it has nothing to do with Italian pizza. Let's say it's a cheap place that's fine if you go without much expectation and to try American pizza.

Our server was very new. He called us and all his other customers "guys" . "How are you guys doing?" "Do you guys want something to drink?" "Are you guys ready to order?" It was annoying. Pizza was ok

We ordered a medium pizza and an individual salad for three hearty appetites and could barely finish it. The crust was amazing. The tomato sauce (on top as is typical for Chicago style) tasted so fresh. Our server was friendly and engaging. This is pretty heavy for everyday eating but I’m glad we got to experience Chicago pizza. Only one star down because it was expensive for pizza!

Hostess with dark hair/blue streaks and glasses, needs some training! We arrived on August 19 around 3:30 PM and asked the hostess if we could sit outside. She said it would be a 15 to 20 minute wait for those tables. We decided to be seated indoors, to eat sooner. As soon as she sat us, she than sat the next party outside. There are no reservations, so why on earth did this happen? Also, she has 0 personality. Our server Christopher D was wonderful, however. The Malnati salad is very tasty and the gluten-free deep dish is OK.

We wait 1 hour to be seated. We wait 45 minutes to get our pizza. We got it wrong! Our waitress BRENDA was really rude and almost aggressive: we had to tell her to calm down while we were trying to explain that she had made a mistake in the order. We call the manager that instead was really nice and while he was trying to excuse himself she was laughing….. really really bad! The pizza they brought us was not what we ordered and more it was not cooked… place not clean and very VERY NOISY!

I’m sooo glad we got to eat here before we left! It was not what I expected, I thought it was going to be kind of a casual dive place but actually it’s really nice inside. We shared the Italian beef sandwich which was so delicious. It had so much meat and the dipping sauce was great. It was served with french fries and they were really good too. I also got a thin crust pepperoni pizza which I really enjoyed and my son got the same thing but in the Chicago style crust. He enjoyed that too. I know when we go back we will go here again.

We visited: The 410 n Michigan Ave Chicago il 60611 location! MGT named Fritz! We were a family of 9. First time in Chicago. We were told this was the place to go for deep dish. Upon arrival the hostess attitude was horrible. She was not interested in really seating us as she avoided us because they apparently were closing in an hour. We finally got seated. We ordered a thin crust, because we were told there was not enough time to make a deep dish. Long story short, I ordered a drink, they came back and said they ran out. I ordered a 2nd drink, they came back and said they ran out of that too. I order a rootbeer, it was flat and when I asked for a coke instead. Well that took 15 mins! Then the pizza came and it was COMPLETELY wrong! On top of that, the server said okay this is what you ordered. We said no it is not and review your order. The server NEVER came back. We asked for manager and he was nice, apologized for the issue, said he would bring us a card and a $50 sorry and come back card. As their culture would have it, he never came back and we finally left the venue. THIS WAS A REALLY BAD Experience! AVOID AT ALL COST!!

So, the food was great, but service was not. Kept waiting for a second tee, but was never asked until I was done with meal. Others around chatted up and offered refills.

The perfect Chicago Style pizza! So tasty and very filling! There’s a bit of a wait for this perfect pie.. but so worth it! Paired with scrumptious buffalo wings, and a sublime Bloody Mary. Our server was magnificent. An experience not to be missed.

Wow, we wanted a deep dish experience, and man this place nailed it. So flavorful, fresh, and delicious. Something went awry with our order, the manager dealt with it soooooooooo well, and our server Alberto was stellar. We would go back in a minute. Food was great, service was above and beyond, really enjoyed it.

The home of pizza - errrr not sure it’s all that true. Food was fresh but it was average at best. I don’t eat cheese so had a small vegetable soup which was ok and a house salad which was passable. Average -

Wanted to experience the deep dish. The staff didn't follow instructions for Ubereats. I asked for pizza to be cut up. Kinda hard to cut in in a hotel with no knives. Food was good it was hot and had the right amount of toppings. Would order again. Pricing was fair, cost close to 60$ CAD for two small pizzas

Great place for the best deep dish in Chicago. We went on Friday and Monday. They have Happy Hour between 3-530 Monday through Friday. 5 dollar deep dish , apps and Italian margaritas. We loved it so much on Friday, we went back on Monday.

The best pizza in Chicago ever !!! Was recommended from a Chicago guy and was stunned, nice place, good food and good atmosphere

By far the best pizza we have ever eaten! We would highly recommend to anyone in the area. Wish there was one in the U.K.!

Be advised, you need to make a reservation. We had to wait over an hour, but if we had know in advance we could have skipped the wait. The good news is it was worth the wait! Had a family salad and a large deep dish pizza with sausage. Delicious! Plenty of food for 4 hungry adults. It was a little noisy, but a fairly spacious eating area in the lower level.

First time in the Chicago area, wanted to try a deep dish pizza. Crust was dry . Not busy but service was poor. Server was busy talking too others.

There is ample debate about what spot serves the best Chicago style deep dish and after tons of research we settled on trying Lou’s which was consistently a top mention. We visited as a family with little children. They have ample seating options for small and large sized parties. There was a wait for dinner service so be prepared. Waiter was so nice and friendly and we ordered calamari for an appetizer and a large “The Lou” deep dish. We had half of the pizza to be cheese just for the kids. The pizza was delicious. It was well balanced in terms of ingredients and the butter crust was spot on. Not one slice was soggy. Everyone loved the pizza. The calamari was served with cocktail sauce which was good but I personally prefer marinara. Bathrooms were good but don’t recall a changing station in them which would be nice for families. We found paid street parking about three blocks away.

Visited with one of our grandsons. Excellent deep dish Pizza. The appetizer sampler was enough for 3 easily. All items were well prepared and tasty. Service was excellent. Our server gave us a very accurate estimate of the time it would take for our food to be ready. Definitely a great family place and must visit.

Had high hopes for this place. Firstly came on easter Sunday as the opening times on Google said it would be open and yet it was closed. It doesn't take much just to update a post on Google and say it's closed, glad we hadn't come far. When we finally did come and it was open the experience was very disappointing. We ordered a single deep dish pizzas as it said it serves 2 but it doesn't it's tiny unlike the other deep dish places that serves 2 actually is more than enough. We had the traditional / classic pizza with the sausage. The sausage was so bland no flavour to it at all. Very little cheese and the crust was no where near the standard of other deep dish places. Tiramisu the only good thing going for it. Very bad experience and I wouldn't recommend coming here.

While visiting family my main food request was to try Chicago Deep Dish pizza. Malnati’s didn’t disappoint! Great pizza plus the table ordered a thin crust as well. Both were great!

Went on the recommendation of a local. The pizza was hot and cheesy. Apps were hot and tasty. Staff was friendly. Restaurant itself was a little loud and chaotic. Would go back for the pizza though

Based on recommendations from friends, we chose Lou Malnati’s for our first deep dish pizza experience while visiting Chicago. My husband and I shared a small deep dish cheese pizza on Buttercrust and a chocolate chip dessert pizza. Both were some yummy goodness! Our server was a bit flaky; but I would still rate our experience as a 5 out of 5 because the food was delicious, and we enjoyed a gorgeous Sunday afternoon at an outdoor table.

Ask 10 people to reveal their favorite pizzeria and you'll get 10 different answers. Everybody has a personal choice. Some like thin crust. Some like deep dish. Some prefer cheese and sausage. Some prefer pepperoni. Me? I always order a large thin crust pizza with cheese and sausage with extra sausage. No other toppings. Over the years, I've had pizza at several locations in Chicago. Four of them closed for various reasons. But I think my new-found favorite, Lou Malnati's Pizzeria, of the prosperous and expansive chain with over 60 locations in the Chicago area, won't be going out of business any time soon. Located at 1120 North State Street, this Malnati restaurant is most convenient to my home. And its delivery service is jiffy-quick. On my most recent order, the pizza was delivered in 45 minutes and was so hot, I had to wait a few minutes before taking my first bite. No exaggeration. Truth be told, Malnati's is the best tasting pizza I've had. Better, in my opinion, than others I have sampled that are rated ahead of it. Why do I prefer Malnati's? It is always hot upon arrival. Not too much cheese. Not too much tomato sauce. Plenty of fresh sausage. Very thin and soft crust, easy to chew. Consistently good. Never a complaint.

Restaurant is VERY busy. We checked in and were told a one hour wait. It was also recommended that we pre-order our meal as each pizza takes an additional 30-40 minutes to cook if you order once you are seated. We opted to order once we were seated as we were not in a hurry. We were sat right next to the busing station as were several other folks. This is not the place to relax and sit back to enjoy your time. Tables are being turned over quickly. The service at the bar was horrible. I sat there for a long while with eye contact with the bar tender with zero communication as to “can I help you” being uttered. Our server at the table was great however. The pizza I had was very wet on the bottom. One thing we noticed was any larger pizza was served in the pan from the oven. Ours were put on a plate.

Myself and my wife recently visited Chicago to take part in the Marathon. We had some free time during our stay and one item on our "to do" list was to sample a real Chicago Pizza. Lou Malnati's was on our way back to our hotel and we decided to drop in to get something to eat. The restaurant was really busy but we actually got a seat really quickly and the staff were really helpful and friendly. Our order was taken quickly but we did have to wait a little while to receive our food but it was absolutely worth waiting for. The pizza's we ordered were delicious and we had just enough in eating them all. Great food, good service and definately need to put this on your list if visiting the city to taste the real deal!!

Lou Malnati's Pizzeria was part of our "Chicago Favorites Ultimate Food & Walking Tour" and liked it so much had dinner there on our own and it did not disappoint the second time. It's the best deep-dish pizza we had ever eaten. The staff was top notch, and the food and atmosphere were great . . . a true win, win, win! Highly recommend!

Horrible Pizza. Way too expensive. $45+++ for a Dish pizza is outrageous! Will never order from there again.

First time to try Chicago style deep dish pizza and it was so delicious!! The buffalo chicken wings were great, too! Very happy we ate here on our short visit to the area!

Excellent place to sample authentic Chicago pizza. Good food instead of very charming and very typical. No doubt to repeat

Over rated You wait 30-40min to be tabled Then almost 1hr to bring the pizza and it was cold!!! The taste delis but already cold... stopped being rich Not worth going

When I thought of Chicago I immediately thought of deep dish pizza. After ALOT of research Lou Malnatis came up as a clear winner and it didn’t disappoint. Our waiter was friendly and great with his service and the food was fantastic. Well worth the wait!! We got the Lou Malnati special pizza to share along with boneless wings and it was more than enough food for us both. I wish I could have finished it as it was so tasty! Would definitely go back next time we’re in Chicago!

This was my first trip to Chicago and my husband suggested while there, I should try some deep dish pizza. I’m not that big of a fan of pizza but decided to try it. After getting suggestions from others and looking at reviews we chose Lou Malnati’s as we were in the area. I have to say it was the best pizza I’ve ever had. It was so much better than any so-called deep dish pizza I’ve had at home. It’s about a 30-minute wait once it’s ordered but well worth it. Their wings were excellent as well. I highly recommend this place!

Absolutely the best Chicago deep dish pizza! We go here every time we're in town. My favorite is veggie, but my husband is a meat lover.

I ordered 4 thin crust pizzas online. Who in Chicago puts cheddar on a pizza? No ONE. This was the nastiest pizza I have ever had. Pizza Hut is better.

My fiancé and I ordered a deep dish pizza on door dash after hearing great reviews. The pizza had zero taste. We threw 75% of it in the trash can. Save your money and go somewhere else

I love Chicago style pizza, but this was a disappointing meal. Had to try Lou's and now that I have, I'll pass. Friendly staff.

The pizza was very good. The staff was excellent, especially the pizza server and the busser. The tiramisu was strong with espresso. The Caesar salad was excellent.

Great place to dine, get there early though. Yes you will be waiting for the pizza, all made to order takes a while, but so worth the wait. The staff was awesome! Easy to get to within walking distance of most hotels or park on the street. The vibe is nice and friendly. A bit more than you might be used to paying, but worth it.

Being in Chicago, I had to have the deep dish pizza and Lou Malnati's came through. Generally I am not a fan of deep dish but Lou's was really good. Unfortunately, my server was HORRIBLE but I will try pass that off to him just being a really bad server. So the process is that you wait in line (because there will be a line) to put your name in. Then they suggest placing an order for your deep dish pizza (if that's what you're going to order) because it can take up to 1 hour to make. So you put in your name, then go in another line, place your deep dish pizza order, and then you wait to be called for your table. It took 50 minutes for me to get a table and typically, it should be another 20 minutes for your pizza to arrive. Unfortunately, mine took another 45 min. I put that on my server because he also said he would bring me water, but never did. I had to ask for utensils and a plate, and he just took forever with everything. Now onto the food. The pizza and the chicken wings were great. I would definitely go back to Lou's.

This is the #1 deep dish pizza to get when visiting Chicago. Its far superior to Giordano. I've never had a bad meal here as I stop every time in in Chicago. The deep dish chocolate chip cookie is also delicious ending to your meal!

In the land of deep dish pizza, Lou Malnati’s reigns supreme. The sausage is the best. I guess perfection takes time as it does not come out of the oven very quickly! VictorB

I am personally not the biggest fan of deep dish pizza, but there were options to please our entire table. My daughter was able to order a deep dish gluten free pizza (for the first time), so she was in heaven. I had the sausage crust pizza, my son had wings, and my husband had a traditional deep dish. All very good. We first tried to go for a late Sunday afternoon lunch and it was packed, with a 45 minute wait to even sit down, so we left. We went back on Monday at 11:30am and had a very pleasant experience. No wait, great service.

We wanted to try the world famous Chicago-style deep dish pizza, and I loved it, even if I prefer the good old pizza baked directly in the traditional oven. The taste was super yummy, and I also loved the minestrone soup. I highly recommend the try!

We went to experience Chicago pizza as recommended by our tour guide and were not disappointed with the experience from start to finish
Has to be experienced during your stay in Chicago!
Classic deep dish, great service, a varied drinks menu, and an amazing outdoor patio with the best atmosphere. Perfect for people watching on a summer's evening. This is the best Lou Malnati's location in the city, in my opinion!
