Lovely Setting

By janicepk |

On a busy weekend we were happy to find a table for Sunday brunch, however, we sat for over 15 minutes waiting for a server. Grant was not assigned to us , but came to our rescue. Food was excellent. We had french toast, omeletes, coffee and drinks.

Burning Customers at Louie Louie

By Germ |

Le sigh. I wanted to love this place. We had a good experience with a private event there so we decided to try out their brunch. Our waiter was nice but then the food came...and my beyond burger was beyond burned...like to a crisp. Like inedible. And then no one came out to check on us for about 30 minutes so I couldn't get them to send out a new one. Finally we managed to flag someone down who looked at my food and said "yeah wow that is burned" and offered to get a manager. The manager took quite a long time to come and didn't apologize. He just asked if my other patty was okay. I think to try to build an argument for why they shouldn't comp it. But I explained that the veggie burger only comes with one patty--which again is what we are both looking at--a fully black burned to a crisp burger. I asked him to just charge for a side salad which was the only edible thing on my plate. He said he's "make the adjustment." We were in a rush to catch a flight but another 10 minutes went by and no one came out with the check. We went inside to hunt down our waiter and hand him a card. Another long wait and finally we got the bill back. They put a small discount on my burger but it was an absurd price for a few green leaves and two bites of an inedible burger with terrible service--and now no time to eat before my flight. My partner and I ended up spending $45 after the discount for one edible meal and two coffees. Gotta work on their customer service--and their quality control--if they are gonna charge this much.

One and done wish I knew it was a chain

Decided to treat myself to some French cuisine as it’s close to where I live. Nice restaurant nice ambience, but the food is mediocre. Received a delicious white cosmopolitan, which was taken up in the glass by a huge piece of ice in the shape of a rose. Keep the ice man..nobody cares.. I’d rather have more drink… substance over style. The scallops were good, accompanied cauliflower with capers not too bad, but mind blowing. The short ribs with the mushrooms and farfalle pasta.. what a let down. Approximately four bites of short ribs, and a plate full of mushrooms and pasta AND to boot lacked flavor!! Left 80% of the dish and opted to not even take it home. I can load up on pasta and mushrooms at Aldi.

Very Noisy and Not Cheap

By joeyeatsout |

we went to lunch with our granddaughter who is an incoming freshman at U Penn. as soon as you walk in the noise hits you. having a conversation is difficult at best. Sandwiches (burger and croque monsieur with fries) are good ....and should be at $20 each. Service is friendly and efficient.

Great food & great outdoor seating environment!

By Rylie G |

Service was amazing! Food was delicious. We got an express martini tower which tasted great. Sat outside and atmosphere was so nice.

Birthday

Celebrated my daughter’s birthday with grandparents and had a lovely evening. Our server, Liz, was very kind and attentive. Had delicious bruschetta and shrimp appetizers and everyone loved their entrees.

Wish I lived in Philly

By EkimEvanston |

There were six of us. I don't remember what the others had, but the response was uniformly enthusiastic. Mine was called "paella," but not the combination of ingredients we are used to. It was more like a deconstructed stew, with each of the traditional components prepared as a separate dish. That enabled all the flavors to present themselves alone and together. Absolutely delicious! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed and served warmly and knowledgeably. A nice selection of wine, too. Next we are in Philly, Louie Louie will be our first (and maybe second) stop.

Decent venue for lunch

Recommend sitting at the bar - it is quieter. Friendly service, very approachable menu, ok food and execution

Stopped in for a wonderful dinner

By AWRich |

My husband and I were in Philadelphia for a wedding and popped into Louie Louie for a quick dinner. Eddie’s service was exceptional and the food was fantastic. The cod croquettes, Louie burger and winter salad were great. Strongly recommend stopping by for a great meal.

Neighborhood Hot Spot

In a nutshell; Happy Hour is a must! Apps to get- dates wrapped in bacon, tuna tartare, lamb with polenta. You can't beat the price and pretty good cocktails.

My birthday brunch

By TRAVELHAIR |

I’ll start by saying I was so excited to visit this French themed restaurant which is new in Philadelphia. I have not been to brunch for quite some time and had chosen this restaurant to celebrate with a couple of friends for my birthday. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful it definitely looks like a Parisian bistro. The Menu had lots of things to choose from. I had a A few issues with seating and cleanliness to start. Next step is two of the things that we actually came for we were notified upon being seated that they were not available but sold out even though it was only 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon. So that was kind of disappointing. So we ordered the muscles and fries which were pretty good. I then ordered waffles banana foster which came out warm and not hot so it had to be returned. Once I notified the waiter he removed it and bought out a very hot one which was OK.Being that it was my birthday it was noted in my OpenTable reservation and also my friends notified the front receptionist that it was my birthday. At the end of our meal they brought out a check and never mentioned my birthday celebration at all. By this time I was quite annoyed and Asked if I could have the email address to a manager? The general matter if you’re happen to be in the restaurant and came over to the table and listen to the problems that we had during our brunch. She handled things to my satisfaction and even gave me a gift card to return. For this reason I would definitely go and give them another chance.

Burger was good

By Nefertiti D |

Ate at the bar because the place was so crowded. Was able to catch happy hour. The drink was good. We ordered the burger with truffle fries. Meal was good. Service was good. Would go back

Nice environment

By prettybrowneyes83 |

Cute restaurant. Nice environment. The food was just ok but nothing special. The bread was good. The steak strips were cocked properly and tender. The lobster bisque was good but not hot.

A vibrant restaurant, lots of buzz and very good food.

By cathycnh |

Visiting Philly to see our daughter. This was the last restaurant we went to and we weren't disappointed. It was very busy, but I loved the vibe. A really nice restaurant. We couldn't get over the beautiful tiled floors. Our waiter was very attentive. I had pan-roasted chicken breast w/ peas, carrots and a tarragon jus. Honestly, I didn't expect much but it was really delicious. The chicken breast was pounded which I believe is a must for good chicken and the veggies were great with a tasty sauce. My husband and daughter order the butternut squash ravioli; both enjoyed and another in our party ordered the burger which she seemed to really enjoy. We all shared the bacon-wrapped dates which all loved. A really good meal and I would return to this restaurant. The weirdest thing were the bathrooms. It is a really large restaurant, but the bathroom has one stall. A young girl stood in line next to me and we were both standing there dumb-founded that there were only 2 bathroom available. That was the most negative thing about the restaurant.

Lots of attention, good menu

By Roland A |

This is a popular spot when visiting Penn. Service is attentive, the menu is creative, and the food is good. The hanging bulb lights are problematic in that they’re hard to avoid when sitting at the small tables. While I enjoyed my meal, the fires arrived cold.

Rude, Rude, Rude

By Bob M |

Never ate in the restaurant! Had a 3PM reservation for 9. Apparently, Sunday is their brunch menu that ends at 3. We received a call 20 minutes before 3PM, telling us we needed to get there ASAP to order food. Since we were already in transit, we continued, and arrived around 3:10. The two women at the desk AND the manager, made it our fault. Somehow, we should have known they only serve snacks on Sunday after 3PM!!! When you try to make a reservation, you get OpenTable. Even when we spoke to them live, with a final headcount, NO ONE mentioned the menu stopped at 3. Lots of very good restaurants ion Philly! Most have friendly, respectful staff. NOT THIS ONE!!! Totally annoyed at the experience. Problem is...no one at the restaurant cared!

Good food

By mombrellino |

Nice place to go when visiting Philadelphia. Food was well prepared and service was good. Went for mother’s day so there was a bit of a delay between our apps and our main course. Overall good.

This place is not what we

By Shavonna T |

This place is not what we expected. My family and I went during Covid. I understand the precautions that needed to be taken. The customer service was good. But the food is not what we expect and was very mediocre and over priced. It’s was 5 of us at a table and either of us enjoyed our entrees. The appetizers was ok but nothing to rave about. Our seating was outside of course. We had umbrellas to shade us, the umbrella was not mounted down properly so it kept fall onto us. The best thing we had was the mocha creme brûlée

Food and service Subpar!

By kara c |

Lobster bisque was room temp., steak was completely RAW, the chicken was completely RAW, the fries were rubber, the beets look like they came from a jar, and the water tasted like tap water not filtered. The ONLY thing that was tasty was the bread, even the butter was gross. Oh and the steak had a putrid flavor. Our waitress NEVER asked how our food was and didn’t even notice that NO ONE ate their food.

Great dinner on the outdoor patio

By Ortho3311 |

Arrived on a busy Saturday night without reservations and we were seated in their heated outdoor patio. Great ambience. We split the Feta and Olive appetizer. My son had a pasta entree and I had the mushroom risotto. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Will return!

Great Vibes & Friendly Staff

By PhillyShaney |

Ok...Louie Louie! Great first impression for sure! I made reservations for a girls get together and I arrived early to make sure we got prime seating and check out the overall vibe of the place! I ordered a drink @ the bar and it wasn't off the happy hour menu so that was a bit pricey ($15) for a vodka gimlet! Great vibes all around...Staff were super friendly and helpful about the menu and assisted with recommendations! When my party arrived, they were pleased with the decor and energy of the restaurant! We all places starter orders from: oysters (sorry..no pic..sucked those down real quick..lol) and ratatouille which were both flavorful! Our main dishes: Calamari and Salmon were on-point! Overall, Louie Louie was a success and this may be my new Happy Hour Spot in University City!

Loud, pretentious, overpriced

By Absinthe H |

When the wretched Penne closed, Louie Louie sprung forth like a hope of spring in the middle of winter. And visually, it is. But, I am afraid, that's where its charms end. The restaurant is aesthetically very pleasing, but the menu is very limited and overpriced. The food is tasty, but nothing to write home about. The service is fabulous. We were at the restaurant after the semester wrapped up, and there were not that many people there, and yet it was so loud that we could not hear each other. The bistro layout means there will be strangers sitting uncomfortably close to you, so don't plan any intimate conversations if you are dining here.

A complete disaster, definitely a NOGO

By smart_and_select |

Since we were not the only table which had to deal with it... it is a very clear NOGO. This restaurant is a captive business - ie due to its location with no real competition around ( same price category). And well if u happen to go there, u will notice: close to no service ( we had to ask for bread and water), some tables where you might get seated are actually right within a cool draft ( look around before you seat down, the few staying are wearing coats) , the main room is quite loud but ok ( seating is not confortable though), and well for a steak you would have to calculate about an hour before you get your plate. Steak ok, rest was barely ok - very salty- All in this place was an evening spoiler ... No way we will ever go back there even if our kid goes to university across the street ( ie we will certainly be around a few times in the upcoming years.

Great atmosphere for a brunch and dinner.

Louie Louie has this charm that will make you come back. Its in a good location and walk distance to my assignment of work. Great ambiance and great staff and people. Highly recommended!!!

Lunch date with family

By jeanmariepagani |

Really love this place. Great location right next to Penn campus. The food was good and the service was attentive. The bar looked inviting and fun.

Inconsistant

By GoldnAdvice |

Louie Louie is a casual Bistro type restaurant near Upenn. The decor is light and airy and has indoor and outdoor seating. We were a large group and it was graduation weekend so they were a little overwhelmed. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgable about the menu. They had a decent selection of hot and cold entrees but not a lot of gluten free options. Our food came very late. Some entrees were excellent and others were average or below. I'm not sure if the inconsistency was due to the graduation weekend or not. I will give it another try if I am in the area.

Really Nice.

By LynAnn M |

This restraunt had great food selection and very good service. I had the night special which was short ribs and loved it. My girl friend is a vegan and was able to find great selections. I would definitely recommend lunch or dinner here.

Something different and new in University City, Whew!

By rich_cardona |

The summer opening of this place was a pleasant surprise. Louie Louie is accessible right from Walnut Street and the entrance to the Inn at Penn (local Hilton) that services University City. It's a welcome addition to this block which has been undergoing a lot of dining changes. I stopped by yesterday for happy hour and I enjoyed a few appetizers with some friends. The bar is well stocked and the wine list is a good match for the location. As a vegetarian (who eats dairy and eggs), I loved the deviled eggs, the marinated olives, and the cheese plate--which all went down nicely with a lovely white wine. I love the renovation from the previous restaurant, and I love the outdoor seating even more. I'm looking forward to a few business lunches and happy hours.

Loved Louie Louie

By BrynMawrBK |

We had never made it to the Italian restaurant that previously occupied this space by the Inn at Penn, and had no preconceived notions when taking our daughter here at the end of the semester. Well, what a great place! It's French-bistro pretty with lots of light from the ranks of windows along the front, and the food is excellent. The steak frites and the oysters Rockefeller in a casserole dish were particular standouts, and the chicken breast was perfectly prepared in classic bistro fashion. Cocktails are delicious. I loved the ice cube in the shape of a rose floating in my White Cosmopolitan, which was tangy and tasty -- not overly sweet as many white cosmos can be. Service was very pleasant. Our corner banquette was so cozy we could have stayed and stayed. We can't wait to come back!

Excellent Dining in University City

By kathy1966 |

We really enjoyed dining at Louie Louie-good take on French bistro theme. Nothing over salted in every item ordered. Delicious octopus appetizer and duck confit salad, duck confit burger, and venison pasta for entrees. Friendly service as well. Would definitely return for another meal if visiting Philly again.

Good vegan burgers in nice outdoor setting

By packedandready2go |

I had the vegan burger and fries which was delicious. We ate outside which was very pleasant. The service was friendly though at times a bit slow.

Great place for a celebration

By SB |

Excellent food and excellent service. We were a large group and our server was attentive, informative, and responsive. We had mussels, burgers, ribs, and salads, drinks and desserts and all agreed the food was well prepared and delicious.

Mixed Family Review

By Mark R |

Most of us (7) for a gamily brunch gave this French Bistro near/on the UPenn campus a 4, but there was a 5 and a 3. Special dietary needs were met. Service was excellent. Dessert treats were wonderful. Noise level high. The tuna in the Salad Nicoise was fabulous but the greens were minimal with sticklike leaves that could not handle the dressing. One omelette was undercooked. Probably will return but will be more soecific when ordering.

Great lunch spot

By henry j |

We toured U Penn and got a little tired. We stopped in here for a small lunch. We did not want to fill up since it was already 2pm and wanted to be able to have dinner around 7 that night. I stayed at the hotel before, but did not eat here. I must say that the place is charming. It reminded me of Parisian restaurants I've been to. The food was good, nothing spectacular, but very solid. I would recommend this place as a great oasis if you are walking and touring U Penn.

Good All Around Experience

By MLilly190 |

Fantastic Service. Good Food. Great Shrimp Cocktail. Large Fresh Shrimp excellently prepared. Good Filet. Very good lobster bisque, however hardly any pieces of lobster in it. Excellent flavor though. Wedge Salad average. Signature Sunday very good but slightly stale brownie

Good Service But Putrid Food

By Andrew |

This restaurant is located inside the Inn at Penn. It serves a fusion between American and French cuisines. It had myriad options and I chose the Lasagna Rolls, which were $25. My family ordered a cheese plate as an appetizer, which was good. I then received my food very quickly. The food was okay; however, I found a piece of saran wrap in my roll. I was then informed that the food was premade and frozen. Considering how expensive the food was, $25 for frozen food is unacceptable. Thankfully I got the entree for free. I just do not think, especially when there are far better options in food quality and price, that this place is worth it. The dessert was okay but was also overpriced. I could have easily made it at home. The waiter was a trooper and served us very well despite the hiccups with the food. I will not return.

Great choice!

By Lana S |

So glad we made reservations at Louie Louie! The service was great and the food was delicious! Wonderful location.

French meets Palm Beach

By Natalie C |

My girlfriends and I came here for my birthday dinner. When you walked into Louie, your were greeted with the traditional French look of black and white checkered floors, then to be met with palm trees and a somewhat beach-y vibe via the decorations. For Drinks - ask for a recommendation and your server can help. I said I didn't want sweet and I typically drink vodka. She recommended a gin cocktail, and ABSOLUTELY nailed it. The presentation of all the drinks was absolutely stunning. To Start - we got the mussels. Let's just say, they were so good that we asked for extra bread to soak up the broth. For Dinner - you can't go wrong on the menu. The scallops with pork belly was DEFINITELY a smaller portion, but still amazing. For Dessert - get the sundae to SHARE! I don't know the last time I had a sundae, but it was perfect balance and it was just enough for the 3 of us to have a little bit of everything.

Great meal!

By ae837 |

I met a group here who had chosen the restaurant. Initially I didn’t love the menu, but our server made great suggestions and I ended up loving every thing we ordered. The short rib and fries are the best meal I’ve had in awhile. Several desserts we had were excellent too. Worth trying this place!

Great food!

By ShellBoss |

I loved the lobster & shrimp salad appetizer & the burger was large enough to share! We are outside to enjoy the fall weather and it was quiet enough to carry on a conversation. I will return!

Nice spot

By Checkitouttravelgal |

Stop by for some apps and drinks. Nice atmosphere. Good vibes. The drinks were on point and the apps were as well. Oysters were really good! Came back the next day and sat at the bar. Loved it

Grand Opening

By hherbert19 |

This restaurant is brand new. I’ve stay at the Hilton connected to it for months waiting on it to open. The restaurant itself is beautiful and modern. Staff would probably need some time to learn the menu a little more but they were extremely helpful and warm. The French onion soup is to die for! The wine selection is a little pricey but I did not mind. I also had the salmon which was impeccable. I’ll always come here when I’m in town.

Good Food. OK Service.

By Ken B |

The bar staff at Louie Louie is always fabulous. Very responsive – you never end up waiting long for a drink. The story is a little different once you make it to a table in the dining room. I have dined twice at Louie Louie and found the wait staff in the dining room to be slow / disengaged on both occasions. Long wait times between seating and first meeting our server, entrees arriving immediately after appetizers, long waits for the check, etc. The food, however, is very good. Several traditional French options and many entrees that Americans would be familiar with (the scallops from my last visit were very well prepared). I would eat here again … just going in with the expectation that service might be a little slow.

Great Place

By Bella |

This is the new restaurant attached to the Inn at Penn. Newly remodeled and a new restaurant has a small menu but delicious food and great service. The decor is bright and beautiful. The chicken sandwich had pesto arugula tomato lettuce on a sourdough bread very good. The French Dip was good as well.

Trip to Philly

By mwjarrett |

Husband’s cassoulet was excellent my steak frites was ok. The French fries ( I ordered them without the truffles so got basic fries. Over cooked and nothing special. The creamer brûlée had good texture, but too much vanilla. Very attractive restaurant, a bit too loud. Good service.

Excellent brunch spot

By GerryBaron06 |

We had brunch here before going to the Roots Picnic. Our server Mathew was fantastic. The food was delicious and plentiful. We had the Chicken Salad Sandwich, French Toast (to die for!), Belgium Waffle (as an appetizer), and Wild Mushroom Omelet. The bacon on the side was a lot. Huge slabs of thick bacon. I needed help to finish them. The Chicken and Apple Sausage were amazingly good.

Great execution and great beer

By Nvhawk |

This restaurant and the hotel, The Inn, are beautiful. I stopped in for a drink and dessert and they did not disappoint. I had a saison beer which was full of flavor and easy to drink. The highlight of my experience was the Paris Brest dessert. The pastry, perfect. The creme anglaise, perfect. The candied orange and almonds sprinkled on top, perfect. Don’t miss this if you are in the area.

Fantastic happy hour!

By Wander |

My friends and I came here for happy hour to celebrate being graduated and Louie Louie did not disappoint. The drinks were great and weren't watered down or anything and the food was great as well.

Who knew Brussel Sprouts could be so good?

By Kate W |

Nice place with stylish decor. I had the beef short rib which was fantastic. It came with the most amazing brussel sprouts, which were nice and crispy and not at all bitter. There was also some sort of root vegetable puree which was good. My only concern is that the tables were pretty close together. It wasn't overly busy when I went, but I suspect that when it is really busy it is probably very loud and crowded.

Cheese platter with champagne was yummy

By Ana L |

Cushy chairs near fireplace, great décor and delicious food. Loved it and will be back for more. Attached to the Inn at PENN so very convenient for those staying at the Inn. I'll plan on more meals there when I am back in town.

Good choice

By Backstreets78 |

Cozy french style restaurant in Penn University area, downstairs The Inn at Penn hotel. Decent food choice, not very fast service. Overall ok

Unique Drinks and Delish Food

By BozmanGu |

Even though the restaurant just opened recently it is now quite full of patrons due to well made and delicious dishes. The mains are a good size and the drinks all very interesting with modern and great tasting twists on some old favorites. I like the White Cosmapolitan made with some prosecco and the food is all delicious and plated with care…I highly recommend saving some room for dessert and getting the Cheesecake. Well worth visiting and service is great and friendly.

Good

By ilovenygiants |

My husband & I went for dinner, nice staff, nice atmosphere, not to pricey. Dinner was good, I had salmon & potatoes. The cut of salmon was really small almost the size of deck of playing cards but was good .

French surprise

Had diner with colleagues in this nice restaurant. Good food with a wide range of choice. Service was friendly and we really had a great evening

Great Celebration!🎉

By WarmWeatherPlease013 |

Joined friends for a big celebration on a cold Saturday night in January. Bartenders were spirited, service was prompt and attentive, and the food was tasty. Note that they’re connected to The Inn at Penn (Hilton Hotel) but not operated by the hotel.

Everything you want in a brunch.

By Jennifer H |

Louis Louis is kind of the perfect place for brunch. Something for everyone on the menu, great atmosphere, yummy brunch cocktails, both gorgeous inside and outside patio seating. Excellent service. There’s really not much more to say. Happy we dined there.

Excellent food and service

By Ron O |

I had marinated olives as an appetizer and my entree was a fried calamari po'boy. Both were delicious. My friend had a shrimp-lobster salad and a lemon tart, and she thought both were excellent. The service was also excellent. It is a delightful place to dine.

Louie Louie is great.

By James S |

We just had our fortieth anniversary breakfast at Louie Louie, and the experience was wonderful. Our waiter was attentive, cordial and efficient; the food was great. We loved it.

Come for the atmosphere, and you'll enjoy the food

By bluebeans |

This restaurant is gorgeous. It's worth coming just to experience the space and decor--but the food was good, too! Our server Alexandria was attentive and friendly. Limited menu choices for vegans, but plenty for vegetarians.

Absolutely wonderful birthday brunch

By 772mackie |

I write this review through tears of happiness. My heart is just full of gratitude for the beyond perfect Birthday Brunch you made for my mom. Everyone from management- you are so lucky to have Kelsey- to bus staff wished Mom happy birthday. The birthday Sash you made was beautiful. She hung it in apt. Every little detail was so thoughtfully presented. The food was perfection. Your new Chef is amazing. Logan, our server, is an absolute sweetheart. Mom was Soo happy. Thank you again.

Lively and fun!

I was in Philly for some meetings and my daughter took the train from Brooklyn, NY. We met at Louie, Louie for dinner and had the best time! Food was great - and wine list short, but inspired. Homemade brioche was a winner as was halibut and basil crepes.

Good for Pre-Annenberg Theatre Dining

By pookala |

A perfectly ok meal. My Fig Thyme cocktail was very refreshing & the warm bread served with a tasty butter was a great start. The bruschetta with tomatoes & peppers was oddly bland and my husband’s green side salad was overdressed. If you don’t like soggy greens order your dressing on the side. An entree of salmon was served in a hot metal pan yet the fish itself was tepid. The creamed spinach sauce was way too hot and our very cold chocolate cake for dessert had very little flavor because of its temperature. The steak knife stuck through the top of the cake was just silly. Staff were affable, if a little off in timing. The real problem here is that the meal totaled $160 for two & was just not that special.

Lots of interesting menu items not commonly seen!

By Jennifer A |

This was a great spot for a late dinner after check in to the Inn at Penn. The restaurant decor is funky with a vintage sort of art-deco vibe. Service was outstanding. The menu is eclectic with lost of unusual proteins (venison bolgnese, duck burger...) and everything we tried was delicious! Outstanding wine list and full bar with a cocktail menu. A lovely dinner - not cheap eats - but reasonably priced for the quality.

Great atmosphere, food, and service

By cbk5976 |

Although we had the short midday menu we were able to all find something we wanted. Food was delicious with excellent service. The dessert menu offers a lot more options for drinks FYI Brioche with crème anglaise was great.

Food was great but a bit loud

By bclarke292 |

I dined here during what was obviously a very busy evening for the bar. While the dining room had plenty of tables the patrons at the bar and lounge were very loud making conversation difficult. The food was very good and the server very attentive but on three occasions something was forgotten by those that delivered the food ... dressing for the salad, side dish, and even silverware. But I would go back as it felt more like an off night versus a regular issue.

vrey good

By James W |

just had sandwich but the turkey was excellent and the wine choices were very good. the fries were very good and very abundant.

Fabulous find!

By NYCguy74 |

Fantastic food and service! Lovely evening out for my partner’s birthday. Highly recommend the seafood appetizer tray and the brisket bourguignon.

Great drinks and delicious dinner!

By Kathleen T |

We were guests in the Inn at Penn - a Hilton hotel. We decided to go to the bar for a cocktail. I had the white cosmo - totally delicious! Floating in the cocktail was a large rose shaped ice cube. Not only delicious to drink but really cool to look at! Our son and his friends had been to a Phillies baseball game and surprised us by joining us at the bar for a few drinks. They were in baseball game attire and were well accepted. We had a great time socializing with them The bartender was fun and helpful with selections. Once the gang left, we went into dinner. Liam was our server. He is so personable and warm. My husband ordered the trout almondine and loved it. The trout was cooked perfectly. The sauce with the inclusion of the sun-dried tomatoes added a nice salty spice flavor. The string beans had a crunch - just the way he likes it. Presentation was lovely. The special of the evening was the Bolognese, and that's what I ordered. It was really delicious. The flavor of the sauce just declared comfort. It was served over a pasta I can't identify but it was good. The pasta was a twist and held the sauce. I preferred this over spaghetti since it was easier to eat. Brian was the manager of the evening. He was friendly and attentive. The place is definitely eclectic and I love the vibe. It's a cool place and I would recommend it to folks who want to spend an evening in a cool place. It is loud but it didn't damper our evening!

Great Vibe at this French-Inspired Restaurant!

By 623tammyd |

New restaurant just opened earlier in the summer. Love the vibe, food was great and loved that it was attached to the Inn at Penn Hilton where I was staying. Also, loved the lounge area..place to be seen...so lovely and great art work!

Nice, new place downtown !!

By Joe L |

Service was very solid and the food was wonderful. Very pleasant interior. Will definitely be back soon. Also enjoy their other place, White Dog Cafe, more casual but also nice.

Good food, not outstanding, good service

By Kwesi M |

Good food, not outstanding, good service, good wine. Very noisy this Friday night. I guess that’s not uncommon for a hotel restaurant essentially on a college campus.

Surprising

By skychaserCalgary |

We were surprised and pleased with our evening at the Louie Louie which is located in the Inn at the Penn, a Hilton Hotel. Three of us ordered fish and the other member of our party had the coulotte steak….all of us enjoyed our meals. Starters were oysters and clams, all delicious. My only comment would be the lack of knowledge of the serving staff as well as a certain amount of indifference….another complaint was the state of the restrooms….off the hotel lobby. Not good.

Not What We Expected

By diningexpert1 |

Thought we would find a lovely French restaurant with We were expecting a French restaurant with very good food; it did not happen. LL is located on lower level of the Inn at Penn, a Hilton Hotel. It is not owned or run by Hilton. The decor is "rustic modern industrial??"-nothing appeared French to us. The bar and fireplace area were both packed with students enjoying happy hour complete with complimentary bar snacks. The noise level was so high it was difficult to converse even in the dining room. The service was incredibly slow and indifferent. The food was nondescript. Have had much better mushroom bisque and the pigs in a blanket appetizer was an oversized hot dog in burned puff pastry swimming in a pool of mustard with three strands of sour kraut. Husband's steak and salad were rated as OK. Will not be returning.

Amazing Place-reviews are bogus

By Brian M |

Caught up with friends in Philadelphia. Jenna was an amazing waitress and took care of us. Bacon wrap dates delicious. Raw oysters briny, cold, and delicious. Lobster stuffed with crab and truffle fries enough for 2 people. Salmon incredible. Great ambiance and design.

French twist

By Wil012014 |

The salmon was cooked to perfection as were the steak frites, monk fish, pork milanese, and vegetable curry. We shared three exceptional appetizers: wrapped dates, mushroom salad and a bacon and onion flat bread. Save room for their take on a sundae. The service was excellent. Only fault is that it can get a little noisy. Very happy to visit again.

Delicious food choices at Happy Hour at the new restaurant connected to Inn at Penn. And unlike so many happy hour locations, the seating is not just at the bar but includes the enclosed garden like outdoor area in front of the restaurant. Not sure what happens in very cold weather, but it’s a great setting in moderate weather. We were even there in a rainstorm and felt cozy and dry watching the rain from our tables. Louie Louie very convenient to theater and dance programs at the Annenberg across the street.

Great place

This restaurant is located in the university city district. The decor is very stylish and modern. Food and service were great. The classic frite was very good and the truffle pomme fries are a must.

Solid three.

There were good and not-so-good aspects to my evening here. The decor is nice. Sort of a graceful look to the place, with old subway tiles on the walls, electric fans, interesting lighting fixtures. However, the noise level robbed from the ambiance, and made for a less than pleasant experience. I really could barely wait to eat and leave. And had a headache when I did. The service was very good. Out server was right at the table when we sat down, took drink orders, and delivered them promptly, along with some very nice rolls and butter. One roll per person, but they sure were good! I ordered a dish of "pork cheeks." I wasn't quite sure what that might be. The server told me they were 'wonderful.' When it arrived, I would have called it roast pork pieces in a dark, salty gravy. It was very salty. We were not rushed, though the restaurant was crowded. But it was nice to get out of there and try to let the ringing in our ears dissipate. The place is VERY LOUD! I thought the prices were a bit high, as well. The restaurant isn't bad, but it just wasn't hitting the mark, and the sound level really killed the evening.

Almost Four Stars

By GoldnAdvice |

I want to give this restaurant four stars because I liked the decor and the service. It has a bistro type cool decor and the service was excellent. The food however was average. We were a big party and some of us loved the food while others did not. They had some interesting items on the menu like dates wrapped in bacon but they did not have gluten free bread considering they had a lot of sandwich options. The kitchen seemed inconsistent. I hope they iron out the kinks because its has a good location and a nice setting. I might give it another try if I am in the area.

Delicious, but not quite what we were hoping for.

THere were five of us: but one who was gluten free, vegetarian and fussy. we had a great meal: starting with the seafood tower and beet salad. The wine list is thin for a french restaurant, surprisingly. And the cocktails sounded better than they were.

Beautiful place

Great menu and service. Very nicely decorated 50ish style. Outside terrace and not to noisy so you can have a great conversation even in a big table. Vegetable menu is complete and delicious. An entree in itself. Full bar and very nice service
