I have visited this place in 2023 with my daughter. She surprised me with this special Hitea experience. The cute & lovely place, ambience, snacks, the wonderful staff everything was really amazing. I had no idea what to order, but then I saw chestnut tea. I love chestnuts and I thought I should try it in a tea form. To my surprise I fell in love with it. Instantly asked the staff to purchase a bag for myself, and got it from their own little tea shop. Since then I have treasured my tea bag and had it at special occasions drinking with my friends. It was no surprise each and every person I have given it to were getting obsessed with it, just the way I did. I live in Sacramento and we don't have such "tea experiences" available here. I have directed many of my friends to lovejoy tea room for their own experiences. Hope my friends find the same joy that I have. Try it and find your "Joy"! Gayatri Devi

Used to be my favorite place for high tea...the food is really good and generous. But I can't go there anymore because they now are much more concerned with turning tables and getting everyone out by closing time than with providing a good experience. I've been asked to leave twice when i was there with groups of six. once because they needed the table and once because they were closing and wanted everyone out. Now I kind of hate them and prefer to go to either the Fairmont or the Ritz Carlton for high tea where they understand what service means.

Great experience hosting tea party bridal shower for 16 here. Everyone had a wonderful time. Simple planning process Flawless execution Wonderful service Party area includes long table and small round table and shelves for favors and gifts. Shower games which can be done while seated work best (I.e., bridal trivia). Not a venue for active/team games requiring movement (I.e., toilet paper bridal dress). Decor was perfect for our party. Queen's Tea service included so much food we packed remaining salad, sandwiches, fruit and sweets to go.

authentic and delightful

Such a cute little tearoom! Love the pasties, scones and array of sandwiches...great for girly high teas...sorry guys! The Lovejoy's antique store across the street is amazing too!

We had the best afternoon tea service here! The service was wonderful and the food outstanding! Ashling was a delightful hostess which made our experience quite special. There were three couples and the husbands had a great 1st experience for afternoon tea.

Visited LoveJoy's with my brother (a regular) while on business in San Fran and can see why he keeps coming back! Delicious, elegantly presented tea sandwiches, baked goods and crumpets in a fun and lively atmosphere featuring everything from moms and daughters to bridal showers. More sandwich choices than I could have imagined in scenic Noe Valley. Thank you for making an out-of-towner feel so welcome!

Fun place to go with girlfriends, but don't bother going without reservations.

Everything here is outrageously delicious and the staff is nice too.

Very small with limited seating, but a delightful place. Very personable and knowledgeable service. Personal touch added points to the great quality and variety of tea.

Was there a recent Sunday with some new friends. Service was great. The high tea menu was very good. No one rushed us, so we were able to hang out and chat.

This is an excellent place to sit and relax with friends and have an unusual experience. Good food. Quaint atmosphere. Great service.

July 13, 2008 -- High tea (Laina's baby shower)

Very nice servers, everything was fresh--warm scones, fresh fruit & salad, salmon was NOT fishy. I would love to go back ASAP

Been trying to get a table here for a long time, but was never really serious to book in advance. Been hearing how good it was so my curious palate had to try it. To my disappointment, the place is so stuffy and dark inside. Smelled quite bad from no fresh air going in with everyone’s breath and perspiration mixed with the aroma of hot teas, the smell was quite overwhelmingly uncomfortable. Once you’re seated, the smell becomes nonexistent but it’s still there. Mismatched teapots and cups made the place not so cute and not so pretty. I’m a big fan of matching teapots, etc. The food was tasteless, less than mediocre in my own personal opinion. It’s too bad that the sandwiches were just regular sandwiches, nothing fancy nor tasty. If you have good taste and prefers a more prettier decor and nicer ambiance with a high quality of food, this ain’t the place. However, if you wanna experience afternoon tea without braking your bank and have never done afternoon tea before, you will probably love the place. For the price one pays, it’s ok. Unfortunately, I had to cancel two future reservations here based on my previous experience. I don’t mind paying as long as the food is good. If you’re in NYC, go to Bacarrat Hotel for delicious and poshy experience (see my review).

It was Mom's birthday week so 8 of us went for afternoon tea at Lovejoy's. Table settings are a fun assortment of mismatched plates, teapots, cups and saucers. We had a fun time; service was good. Sandwiches and scones were tasty but salad greens spread around the sandwiches seemed out of place. Parking in the area can be difficult so plan accordingly. If you arrive early, Lovejoy's had a shop across the street filled with loads of interesting items and there is seating area outside of the restaurant.

Cosy, very cute and I love the scones

A little on the pricey side, but totally worth the "afternoon tea" experience. Fun to do with little girls.

So, it is like an old ladies tea room, fab to bring your Mom to but pricey and small food portions (think cucumber sandwiches without the crust), scones & clotted cream are yummy!

My kids and I are nuts for nice afternoon teas, and when we check out a city, looking up tea rooms that offer a full tea is the first thing on our list. While in SF last spring, we got on our tea duds and trundled off to Lovejoy's. At first, we were dismayed as the place does not look very inviting from the street and is in a bit of a rough part of town. And when we entered, we were distressed to find it a jumbly, tatty sort of place with a strong scent of musty cellar. But we'd come too far to turn back, and the temptation of the window table was too much for us...we sat and ordered a full tea. I must say, it was the very best tea we have ever had. The sandwiches, scones and goodies were marvellous; fresh and delectable. The teas (and we all had a different pot) were wonderful as well. And once we settled in, we did find we really liked the "grandma's parlour" decor of low tables and funky old chairs. The service was excellent and the giftwares for sale were quite nice as well. In addition, the price was quite reasonable (unlike the fantastically expensive and rather lacklustre tea we had at the Ritz-Carlton). We would definitely go again. Enjoy!

This is my favorite tea room ever! I feel like Alice In Wonderland there... all the cups and saucers are mixed and unmatched antiques. So cute! I highly recommend taking your best gal pal for high tea for two. It won't disappoint. Their little finger sandwiches are delicious and they have so many kinds of tea. And you can have petite fours for dessert. It's a gal's heavenly haven! Definitely make a reservation in advance. You'll love Lovejoy's!

I love a good cream tea and this place ticked all the right boxes for a traditional afternoon tea. It was really good to see lots of kids enjoying the experience. The only criticism I can post is that the menu was not easy to understand and the waitress was incapable of helping. Despite that we all had fun and I would go again.

Cute place to take your girlfriends. Taste their SCONES and mini sandwiches...

I was pleasantly surprised as I walked in the door at LoveJoy's one afternoon with my sister-in-law and 3,5 year old nephew. The place is absolutely amazing, packed with its teapots, cups and plates, placards and pictures covering the entire room! Extensive selection, both of sandwiches and teas, and it was all delicious. And the scones with Devon cream? Yummy! Service was good, although a little skeptical at first as the combination fragile china and 3,5 year old boy easily could end in disfavor of the china, but it all turned out very well :) We had no problem finding a parking spot close by. They also have a retail store (LoveJoy's Attic) across the street. Both the tea room and the store are definitely worth a visit!

With access to this place, I could so totally forget that I have other things I have to get done and that carbs and sugar are the devil! Somehow, someway, time STOPS at Lovejoy's Tea Room and I live in a fragrant and comfy world where white flour and sugar and globs of butter and clotted cream dance merrily about with non-stop chatter and floral chitz and mean harm to no one. Hypnotizing!

For our Anniversary, we ordered 2 of the Queen's Tea. Way too much food! Nice assortment of sandwiches, salad, coleslaw,a couple of scones with jam and Devon cream, fresh fruit, and crumpets, with a bottomless pot of your choice of tea. It was all nicely prepared and presented. If we go again, we'll get one of the Queen's Tea, and one smaller service. But it was a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

This slightly mad, ramshackle eccentric tearoom neatly sums up the gulf between American/Hollywood old England and the rather more sterile reality. The room is packed with every piece of British memorabilia that someone has managed to collect over the last God knows how many years. That this includes a poster of the bus route I used to take to school over 40 years ago is a fair indication of how randomly they have cast their net. It's someone's idea of Old England, but it ain't real. That said the tea and scones were excellent. Lots of choice of leaf and jam and cream is jam and cream the world over, i suppose. Very pricey, with tax it was $40 for two but that could be standard in this rather swanky part of town. All very odd, really very odd indeed, but fun none the less. Book in advance, it seems to be very popular.

Location: It's on the corner so you won't miss it and it is street parking! Customer Service: Friendly staff and very attentive. Decor: Very cute vintage and antique feel! I love the decor actually, it feels like somebody took a box and put in all these memorabilia with cute old school furniture and shook it up and bam you got the love joy tea room! Presentation of Food: Very cute and everything you'd expect in a tea party setting! Cutest thing was the mismatched tea sets gave it a different feel compared to other tea spots! How did the food taste?: This is why I gave it two stars! The sandwiches were plain and nothing to rave about? I tried the chicken walnut sammy and it had no flavor! Their sandwhich of the day had turkey cranberry etc and you'd think it's be good because it's the special of the day but it was too sour and just wasn't what I had expected. The salad was bleh also, the dressing was just so bland! the only thing i did enjoy were the yummy scones but other than that everything was dissaponting especially because of the raving yelpers that attracted us to even try this place out );!!! Btw we ordered the high tea! I will say though is that they had good tea. Overall Experience: It was just eh.... Would I Come Back?: No there's other tea places I target go to!

Great afternoon tea - was wondering down Church and decided to go in even though I was on my own. I was greeted with a warm welcome and then a pot of English tea a warmed scone with jam and clotted cream. Excellent homage to an English Tea Room and well worth a visit.

Lovejoy's has been my go to place for afternoon tea for years. I've had many celebrations with friends and loved ones over the years at this lovely tea room. It's friendly, cozy and inviting. The staff is welcoming and the service is spot on. The Queen's Tea includes a bottomless pot of tea (there is a large selection of teas to chose from) choice of two tea sandwiches; a scone & crumpet served with devonshire cream, lemon curd and strawberry preserves; coleslaw; organic green salad, fresh fruit, a small tea biscuit and a choice of a petite four. Very filling & very good. Call early in the week to make sure you can get a reservation. Enjoy!

love love love lovejoys!

We arrived for the 1pm seating which was perfect, since the 11am seating was really crowded. Good variety of sandwiches and tea. Crumpets with lemon curd and scones with clotted cream were especially delicious! Great servers who knew their crowd (a cross between allowing one to catch up but never having to wait for a tea refill or the check). Reservations are definitely recommended.

Group of 7 women going out with their kids and play them in garden is not much entertainment but if you are going out to drink some tea in Lovejoy's Tea Room is a real excitement in town. We all British women like to drink some in 16:00 pm is a real joy. Thanks to the room that we had a great excitement in here a few days ago. I just had a chance to write a 5-star review for Lovejoy's Tea Room. We made a reservation here for a 7 women-party for the next week. Thanks again for everything. We really like you and we are really lucky to have you here in San Francisco.

My husband and I drove to San Francisco to experience a true tea parlour menu. We recommend calling ahead because they have 14 tables and they are all reserved. Fortuneately for us, we were able to sit at the "community table" and enjoy excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Great place to have a pot of tea and relax. If you are looking for coffee, don't come here. This is a special place to sit and converse while sipping tasty tea beverages and eating finger sandwiches with fruits and the freshest scones ever.

My girlfriends took me to this place to hold my baby shower and it was perfect. We had about 11 people and had a huge table that fit us all cozy. We had a reservation right when they opened and they sat us right away. They even let us come in a little early to decorate a little before the start of the event / opening. Everyone was sweet and pretty much left us alone after explaining the teas we had to choose. There was no thinking involved, after that. We just had a standard tea setting after that. In fact, I think other than helping us with some tea, I think they could have provided a little more service but they were very nice regardless. As for the food, yummy!!!! There was so much variety and the fresh hot scones were the best! I couldn't help but eat 2, maybe even 3 of them. I originally thought I wouldn't have enough food to each with such finger foods, but in the end, I was stuffed. The desserts were also plentiful as my stomach was about to burst. The tea was also divine! I was trying to stay away from caffeine being 9 months pregnant and their decaf vanilla tea was incredibly tasty and similar enough to the Earl Grey that I was craving. I'd highly recommend it to even those that could have caffeine. I saw many people there in smaller groups as well as large groups like ours and it had a great environment overall. Cute decorations and quaint. I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for a high tea experience or a place for some girl time with some yummy food and tea.

Really fun high tea experience. Fun to be around people who were dressed up and see women in their lovely hats. Lovely sandwiches on white bread with a nice bed of salad around each food tier. The scones with clotted cream was really good. Food was really good. Very cool food presentation. Specials were really good. Tea was very good. Nice decor. They didn't rush you, so you could sit and chat for a long time.

It’s most beautiful and one of the most romantic place in San Francisco for tea and scones. Sandwiches are divine and each table is so different with a magically different tea pot. Never knew having tea was so romantic. Transported my daughter and me to small picturesque villages in England like Woodstock in Oxfordshire. Service was always with a smile. What else does one want …great ambience tea and food.

I was looking for a tea room that worked for our budget. This place is really cute, though don't let the outside deceive you. We called a week ahead for reservations and they were already sold out. The next day we got a call saying that they had a cancellation and we took it. The place was filled with lots of ladies, but my husband was a really good sport about it. There were tea parties with moms and little girls, and bridal showers. Each place setting is different, which gave the place a fun and eclectic atmosphere. It's not fancy, just fun! Our waitress was totally delightful. The scones were warm and delicious as was the tea, crumpets, salad, finger sandwiches... really, this was a bargain compared to the more shi-shi places like the Ritz. I will definitely return here again! Parking is a bit of a challenge, since it's in a residential area. We felt totally safe and did not think it was in a sketchy area at all.

My family & I had the Afternoon Tea yesterday. We called & the message stated that the weekend has been booked & full for weeks ahead, but the weekdays are open & best to check & rsvp online. Therefore, I booked it at 11:00 for the next day. I’m glad I did, because it soon became almost full. I chose here based on reviews and on the menu. For 2 adults & a 16 & 14 y.o; we ordered 3 orders of The Queen’s Tea, 2 Sheppard pies, and an add on $2.00 for an extra cup ( not pot) of tea for my 14 y.o boy. The sandwiches, scones; fruits, and salad ( very fresh), were delicious. The Petit fours were beautiful & not too sweet: But, we only get 1 for each order. However, the server gave us an extra one. They were fresh ( not hard like a rock) and came in many flavors like: strawberry; pineapple; coconut, chocolate etc... finally, the crumpets were served at the end. I like the Lemond curd ( not too tart), and the Devon cream ( imported from England). It tasted better than butter ( lighter). I bought a jar for $7.50 to take home. It has a long shelf life, but once opened, it has to be refrigerated & used within 5 days. Afternoon Tea is overall expensive, and it is even more expensive at the high end hotels. I had Afternoon Tea at the Ritz Carlton & in London, San Diego, Tallahassee, and at many other places. I think this place in comparison to flavors, do a very nice job! The food is fresh, soft ( like it’s not pre refrigerated ( breading) overnight. The high end hotels & in London give a more variety of desserts & I wish LoveJoy’s would give us more treats. For that, I will give it a 4 & 1/2 stars. Overall, service was good.

Lovejoy's team room is a lovely place, the atmosphere is super cute and it really feels homey, we loved the vintage and antique feel. We loved the scones as well as the crumpet and the lemon curd is delicious! However, we went there for the tea and we were a bit disappointed because it came already infused the teapot and if you don't like strong tea that is infused too long there's no way to remove it easily, you'll have to ask for another pot to transfer it which we found too bad. Also, the bill was quite high.

Cozy, laid back atmosphere. Delicious tea, sandwhiches, and scones. Also enjoyed the neighborhood and getting out of the heart of the city for a few hours.

Food was delicious, especially the scones. Lackluster service, couldn't get drink refills. I called after we left because my mother had lost her earring -- two hours later I returned, walked right to our empty table and retrieved it off the floor. Also unsure why they ask if you are celebrating a special occasion as I did specify we were celebrating my mother's 86th birthday -- nothing special was done.

Lovely place for traditional afternoon tea. I usually get High Tea for Two ($32, $16 for each additional person). I love the Vanilla Rooibos with a bit of cream and sugar. My favorite tea sandwiches are: smoked salmon and cream cheese, pear and stilton cheese, cucumber and cream cheese. Comes with scones and mixed greens. They offer you petit fours at the end, but I'm usually too stuffed by then. Great place for a girly afternoon, perhaps a baby shower, wedding shower, or a reunion with old friends.

good place to catch up w/ a friend over fresh tea and yummy treats

I have never tried high tea, but I have heard tis most civilized. When I discovered Lovejoy's Tea Room online, I decided I had to give it a go. I was not disappointed. We were greeted most courteously and seated straight away. I ordered the Me Tea which comes with a bottomless pot of tea and neat little sandwiches. The tea was loose leaf, and the sandwiches dainty and fresh. Although the menu is not extensive, and the teas offerings did not include my favorite oolongs, I did enjoy my meal and experience. The tea room is decorated with British nick nacks which give it an informal vibe. I felt like I was visiting my British great aunt for the afternoon, but I am not even from the UK. I highly recommend Lovejoy's Tea Room for a sampling of high tea.

Walking into it, the room looks like an old antique store that serves tea. They have hats along the wall and on a rack that you can all wear. I think they need to get some new ones since the hats they had were falling apart. You get for the most part super cute mismatched china, my teapot was not so cute. Maybe cause it was due to the fact that I ordered green tea? We all ordered the Queen's tea. Yikes, $30 per person. Can I say it was worth it? Oh absolutely not, but an interesting one time experience. The food was good, scones, crumpets, oh the jam and lemon curd were delicious. The sandwiches were super simple and didn't have much flavor. I've never been to a real tea room so maybe they're supposed to be that way? Anyway, we all got super full fast since we drank so much tea. All in all it was an alright experience. Once is good enough for me.

Lovejoy's Tea Room is a one of a kind experience. Whimsical decor, mismatched but charming dishware, and delicious tea sandwiches, tea, and scones. Service is laid back and friendly. Note: it is not cheap; average tea with sandwiches or scones is over $15; and the minimum per person is $11.95.

This is not an antique store. Why does it appear on searches as the "best" antiques store? I guess if you want an old cup.......

Charming, friendly and great service. Muna and Gillian are wonderful...don't miss the antique store across the street.

My favorite when out with the girls in gloves, hats and pearls!

such a fun and relaxing environment

Cozy and Charming place for an authentic afternoon tea experience. Enjoy lovely pots of tea, scones, finger sandwiches and other delectable treats. Perfect place to linger with friends or to relax over tea and treats. The tea services (queens tea, cream tea) are large enough to share. Love the real china, giant tea pots, and mis matched cups. Makes for a delightful afternoon. They have heartier British fare like sausage rolls and shepherds pie for the hungrier visitors. Everyone should visit this charming tea house at least once. Best tea service in the bay area.

Visited this place in 2010. It has a good range of teas, and offers a very good "High Tea" without the pretension (and often absurd pricing) of the more upmarket places. Also, finding anywhere in America that makes tea properly is always a bonus. Book early if possible, they keep a table free for drop-ins on weekends, but you have to get there early or else be very lucky. (Fortunately, I was both for once.)

This was really great....my little sister and I got to do high tea. Was so perfect and wonderful.....side note it smelled like my grandmother's house..... nice...

Entering Lovejoy's Team Room is like returning to your grandma's parlor. The decor is dainty, charming, and welcoming - all without being over the top. This is a perfect place for a bridal shower, baby shower, or girls' day out. Reservations are strongly recommended. The selection includes delicious tea sandwiches, delectable scones, and a wide variety of tea (herbal, black, and beyond). I strongly recommend that if you like tea, high tea finger foods, or girlie restaurants - this place is for you! Reservations fill up long in advance around the time of holidays, especially Mother's Day. I cannot say enough good things about this place. It is a place that makes memories.

My friends and I decided to try this tea room because we love afternoon tea. We booked online but arrived a little early. They were ready for us. Lovely atmosphere, extremely friendly staff and the food was delicious. Loved the sausage rolls and the scones. Overall a wonderful experience. Will definitely go back.

One of my favorite places to take my mother when she was in town. So quaint and unique.

I had my birthday party here a few years ago. Always a great place for girls who want to dish with little sandwiches and looseleaf.

Cute place for girls outing. Tea time and finger sandwiches.

I come here at least twice a year to celebrate birthdays for family. I also come a few times a year just to enjoy the food, atmosphere and wonderful selection of teas. You can get coffee if you are like me and it is wonderful as well. The place is very eclectic and it is so much fun to look around the room and discover new hidden treasures each time we go.. Enjoy!!!

Enjoyed a High Tea lunch with friends. We each had the High Tea with 2 sandwich choices, scones, biscuits and a choice of teas. Server kept the teapot full and hot. Sandwices were served on an attractive tiered platter. China is all mismatched which is charming. Funky and Fun!

I am so happy to finally be able to write a review for Lovejoy's Tea Room. The first and last time I came was nearly 15 years ago for a birthday party; at the time, I was ten and loved the experience. I kept eyeing this place for years and finally my best friend and I decided to catch up and we were able to book a table at Lovejoy's for the same week --a Wednesday at 3pm. We went yesterday and loved every minute. Upon first arriving it was such a charming view to see all the tables and chairs set up with their cups, saucers, and small plates. The mismatched china is fun to look at and compare. The tables had a lace tablecloth and honestly, I felt like I would be joined by Jane Austen any minute. The set up is wonderful! The host and server was very friendly and gave us her recommendations to order our tea service. We ordered one High Tea service to share; this included the choice of two tea sandwiches, small salad, cabbage slaw, and two scones with clotted cream and berry preserves. For the sandwiches we went for the sweet and savory: the pear and stilton & the special of the day fig tapenade with goat cheese. Both were delicious! For our bottomless pot o' tea --the "champagne of teas" was elected: Afternoon Darjeeling. This really was bottomless as a server would check it periodically and warm it (put more hot water in) to assure that we didn't run out in the middle of our tea service. The presentation of the tea service was on a two-tiered stand --which gave a nice 360 view of your items to pick and choose as you ate. **some tables are a bit smaller and may get a bit crowded as items come out from the kitchen, so maneuver carefully --definitely wouldn't want to break anything!** My friend and I enjoyed the whole experience and even looking around at the decor is fun! There is so many unique and fun items hanging around. Although they tea room was not very busy when we went, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation to secure a table especially for the weekends because there is usually a crowd gathered outside waiting whenever I drive by. My friend and I agreed to return again and soon! We'd love to visit around the holidays as well. There is something truly special about sipping tea here --I definitely recommend.

Our family enjoyed a lovely Bridal Brunch Tea to celebrate my grandniece's engagement and dress shopping day. We very much appreciated the help with our reservations from Christina. She got us a great table. The food and service were perfect. Now I want to go there every month if not to celebrate a special occasion, then just to celebrate good food in a warm, cozy, and friendly venue. Much enjoyed and highly recommended.

Scones are the best I've had to date. Great for bridal and baby showers and girly get-togethers. Price prevents me from going often.

fun date, great place for people from out of town.

It's a cute little teahouse with delicious scones and sandwiches. The salad isn't outstanding compared to everything else. The tea was really good as well, and they did a great job of keeping it warm.

While I was searching for things to do in Portland I stumbled across this place. We had done Tea in Victoria and it was great so we decided to give this place a shot. When we arrived they asked for our reservation. Which I didn’t have. The host squeezed us in. Although not as fancy as the Empress. It was very good. The service was top notch. The food was great as well as the tea choices. The better part is that you can customize your food better than the Empress. I have no negative comments for this place. A true hidden gem in Portland

...... or how about a Pear Stilton salad and fruit. Maybe a cucumber sandwich? Don't be shy with the tea selection. Be creative and try something fruity or order your favorite, strong & bold. The lunches are generously presented on tiered serving trays and each uniquely delicious. The staff is as friendly and nurturing as is the vintage mismatched china and furniture which will take many back to an old grandmother or or old aunt's home. Eat, drink and bring Mary. Then, go shop at the lovely sister store across the street with all the lovely little vintage English-ware your eyes can imagine taking in! The prices are "oh so reasonable" as well . . . .

Went here the other day with my mother. Found it tucked away in an unsuspecting neighborhood. We ordered the High Tea. Realized by the time we ate two sandwiches, tea, scone and two salads there probably wasn't going to be room for much else. We ordered a total for 4 different sandwiches (Pear with Stilton, Chicken and Asparagus, Bay Shrimp and one of the specials Ham with Curry). All in all this food was good, not memorable but tasty. The Pear and Stilton was good but seriously I wanted to pull it off and put it on my salad. I think some micro greens with this sandwich would elevate it. My mother said it tasted salty, but that's due to the cheese. Chicken I wouldn't order again, tasted like they used canned asparagus. Using thin fresh asparagus chopped and maybe some prosciutto would greatly help this sandwich. Bay Shrimp was by far the best. The ham with curry was good but needed more of hint of some spice because it was a little too sweet. Teas I got the House Tea and my Mother had the Black Currant, both were equally good. The coleslaw or cabbage salad was good with the rye seed addition to it. I actually put this in with the ham sandwich and found it to be a great addition. The green salad was nothing to speak of nor the little checkerboard shortbread cookie. Think size of a quarter (slightly larger) Scones are the selling point here along with the clotted cream which is fresh and light. I did order a side of Lemon Curd which I found to be less sweet and more runny, but if you layered that on the scone first followed by some clotted cream you were in high heaven. Definitely would come back, but would not order the two high teas. Would do one high tea and an extra order of scone. I would also pay a bit extra and ask for the sandwiches to be stuffed as our neighbor diner suggested to us. I give it four stars for ambiance, service, great tasting tea and moderately great tasting food.

Had a girls day on vacation and this tea room was recommended by someone who used to live nearby. Not easy to get to, but it was great. The staff were great. The choices on the menu were numerous. We got to experience fun tea time. I would highly recommend.

On a very nice sunny day after an appoitnemnt I had at a nearby office, I walked to the J Muni line stop on Church St. right in front of Lovejoy's. It was exactly 11:00 a.m. on a weekday, and I saw the line of finely dressed ladies and little girls just waiting to go inside the tea room. On impulse, I decided to join the line, and I'm might glad I did! I thoroughly enjoyed my tea for one which included a chocolate tea, salmon sandwiches, and the most delicious, most authentic light flaky ascone I ever had in San Francisco. I also loved their Devonshire cream which is so much better than the one served at Dartealing Lounge! I also took home thier meat pie topped with mashed potato. It was okay, but then I'm not a fan of mashed potato. The next time I visit Lovejoy's, I'm going to bring my Mom and friends so we can share different kinds of sandwiches and teas. I can't wait! .

I went to Lovejoy's with a friend and my adult daughter to celebrate a graduation. It's in an area of the City unfamiliar to us so it was interesting to see some new sights. The tea room itself is lively and frilly in a fun way. Tablecloths, fresh flowers, mismatched china, and the Queen's tea. Wow! We were happy to see that gentlemen also came in to enjoy tea and food. It's that comfortable. Yes, we must begin a new tradition of going to Lovejoy's on a more regular basis.

My friends and I ate here on our last day of our SF outing, and it was the perfect way to end our stay. The tea room is adorable, with a full menu. We had the high tea, which was delicious and quite filling. I have been to several tea places, and this one ranks up there among my favorites!

I have been to Lovejoy's many times, and always enjoyed it. Make a reservation because it is popular. The selection of teas is extensive, as is the selection of tea food. There are many choices of lovely sandwiches, scones, desserts and greens. It reminds you of being in England. There is mismatched china and furniture, which makes you feel like you are in an elderly aunt's parlor. Service is very good.

British High Tea experience in San Francisco! Amazing decor, kids friendly and lots of attention to details with tea pots and teas of many different sizes and origins.

Lovejoy's is a great place for afternoon tea. It's wonderfully decorated, casual and at all stuffy. Each place setting at the table is different which makes it unique and fun. I've had tea here with my sisters, my husband, my daughter and my girlfriends. I've always had a good time and I'm never disappointed in the food, tea or service. high recommend!

I have had afternoon tea here several times and always love it. I travel to the U.K. often and this reminds me of the quaint neighborhood tea rooms in the country in England.

the place is filled with eye candy and interesting tea paraphenila (sp), a mostly girly place. its nice, not a place to go if you are hungry OR broke.

Love, love, love this place!!! Such a cute atmosphere & place to lunch with friends!! The food is fabulous, the service friendly, & the tea hot! Best ever!

You gotta dress up w/ your gfs and go all out! Love the scones!!

We came here as a farewell gathering for a good friend of ours and those who had little girls brought them along and it was one of the best girl gatherings of the year! Quaint establishment and great service. Each child received their own tiered tray of sandwiches, fruits, and cookies while the adults were treated to a huge tiered tray of the same, but with salad and cole slaw. The warm scones and crumpets were awesome and to finish it all off, a sweet treat which was the perfect end. I was so excited by the whole experience that I'm bringing my two sons in a few weeks who I know will get as much enjoyment out of it as I did. Well done and kudos to our server who was very helpful and attentive the whole time.

A very popular tea room to which I make regular visits too. A unique décor, frilly and interesting, no two things are the same. Wide choice of food, lovely sandwiches, always an extensive choice, as well as wide choice of teas. Even though it's always busy, the servers are so attentive and charming. Always leave here extremely satisfied.

a local recommended this place to me and i would go back in a second! charming little spot at church/clipper (F line to church and J line down to clipper) packed with teapots and british decorations galore..at the antique store across the street (owned by the tea room) you can even buy the tea that is served...i highly recommend 'royal blend' (not on the menu 'officially', but you can still order it) and 'black vanilla'...$10 to $13 / tin...the 'basic' high tea (which was more than enough + delicious) will run you $20/pp and includes your choice of 2 sandwiches, scone with cream + jam, and cookies, if memory serves...
Cute little English tea...
Cute little English tea place. Totally girly. But the sandwiches and the scone are to die for. Especially the Devonshire butter. It's a good girls-get-together spot, the decor is total florals. Oh, and be sure to make a reservation first.
