Now at 1503 SW Broadway, this ground-level café has a tasty selection of recipes from Belize (hence the name). On the top of the menu was chicken with the option of one or two pieces. The chicken was nicely prepared and accompanied by salad (I chose arugula) and three scoops of rice with beans. The shop is small and simple, but comfortable. Order at the counter and the food is brought to the table. It's certainly a step up from the cart.

The food was really good, and what makes it even better is that it was under $10 for lunch. It was quick service, so easy to get in and out if needed. A plus is that it's family run (Dad was even had sleeping baby strapped to him while he worked), and who doesn't appreciate that!

I've always had a consistent experience here and the food is incredible every time. Tri-tip is tender and juicy, chicken is full of flavor, rice is cooked perfectly, and the arugula salad and lemon dressing make a perfect pairing. Note, the food is a bit spicy, so don't bring any wimpy friends who can't handle any spice at all. By far my favorite lunch spot. Try it, you will not be disappointed!

I went here with a coworker recently and really enjoyed the Belizean Chicken dish. The rice is very delicious in addition to the chicken. They offer a multitude of sauces to go with the meal, though it wasn’t really needed as both had so much flavor. The seating is limited so I wouldn’t go in a large group. The price on the food was very reasonably priced. I will definitely go back.

Fantastic tasty food with great color, spice, and passion. The chicken, skirt steak, and everything else is amazing. The chicken falls off the bone and all the habanero sauces are so delicious. Fast service with smiles every time, the best Belizean food in Portland!

We enjoyed our lunch at Love Belizean. The menu is not extensive; just chicken, beef, or pork along with rice and beans. The food is very good and the price for an entry is more than reasonable. The food might be slightly more Caribbean than Latin if you really want to categorize the food. You order at the counter and a server will bring your meal to you. The young women behind the counter make you feel at home instantly. They smile and welcome you when you walk through the door. They were also very patient with us as this was our first visit to the restaurant. Among the three of us we ordered the chicken, pork, and vegetarian plates. Each of us enjoyed our entries. My wife order a single chicken, but it was so good that she regretted not ordering a double. I can't say enough good things about the restaurant. You leave the restaurant not only satisfied with your meal and the reasonable price; but, also feeling good about having dined in a restaurant with a warm and peaceful vibe. We loved Love Belizean and hope they stick around a long time.

Great place for lunch, read review on yelp so gave it a try, friendly staff and taste food in a little family style restaurant, tried their popular chicken, was pretty good and only cost $8!

We were looking for lunch in the vicinity of the Portland Art Museum and came up with this well-reviewed restaurant. And we were very happy to find it. The wife had their chicken curry soup which was a large serving and quite delicious. I had their chicken meal—super-tasty grilled chicken, arugula salad, and rice. Prices are quite reasonable. Staff was pleasant. What else could you want?

Shortly after moving to Portland, I picked up a magazine which highlighted the best food in the Portland area, including the best food carts in a city that is known for the quality of the food cart offerings. Love Belizean was one of the highlighted foodcarts; however, it was a referral from a co-worker that convinced me to visit the establishment, as it is located only 2 blocks from my new job. I had been warned that the cart runs out of food everyday, so I went relatively early at 11:45 am. There were no lines and there was plenty of food. The cart offers a rather limited menu: rice and beans, beans, chicken and beef. I opted to get all of the offered options and paid $10 for a VERY full plate with salad and three included sauces: dressing for the salad (you can choose arugula or mixed greens), salsa and a mild hot sauce. The cart actually offers over 6 different sauces which are ranked in order of hotness and have names like orange pulp, which is one of the sweeter ones. The chicken was tender and delicious, definitely the best thing on the plate. The salad was fresh, tasty and excellent with the cucumber filled dressing. The beef and beans were both very good, but the beans were not as well seasoned as I would have liked, though they had a nice spicy flavor. The beef could have been more tender, but it was also flavorful and quite good. The service was excellent. When I arrived at the cart, the two individuals, a man and woman, were very helpful in explaining the menu and how the sauces worked. They were having some issues with their credit card machine and offered to give me my food and let me come back later to pay for the plate. They didn't want my food to get cold while I went to get cash. I thought that was very thoughtful of them. They were friendly and I look forward to visiting the cart again, not just for the food, but for the great service!

I grew up on Caribbean food and travel regularly to Belize. This place is authentic and delicious, offering all the tastes of the tropics for a very reasonable price in a clean, inviting space. Can’t wait to go back!

The Caribbean chicken at Love Belizean is moist and flavorful. The rice is delicious. I highly recommend this little restaurant. The food is packed with flavor and the prices are great. Hours: 11-3 Closed Saturdays and Sundays
Spicy
Stumbled on this place while at a conference at Portland State. Very busy at lunch. Great prices, quick service. I had the Belizian chicken special. It come with chicken, rice, and greens. Everything was spicy---even the rice--but it was delicious. The seating is cozy--maybe 10 tables. Great prices. No complaints--would go back for sure.
