Not too bad

By Run_ar0und |

Did not look up this place before dinning there. Valet parking, walked in first impression, there is a smell like cleaning solution. To the left there is a very limited seafood bar sitting. Restaurant is very small and tables are too closed to each other. Service is good, i think they are changing the menu, we had osyters raw, not bad but had better before. Fish was fine and some reason, most customers are in the advanced age group. Waiter was friendly, other then table too small and too closed space, it was ok.

Slow service and just ok food

By Baker911 |

We got there at 7:00 and I swear it was 30 minutes before we got drinks. It was bizarre. The place is not big. The food was ok. The couple we went with loved the tuna appetizer and the hush puppies were fine but nothing too special. Everyone seemed fine with their meal but not blown away. I got the fish tacos and the fish was like rubber. It was not good. The only highlight was dessert which was excellent. Two of us got key lime pie and we both loved it. One got the s'mores pie and he loved his too. I hope they get their service in order - the place seems to have potential but right now, I would not go back.

Dinner with Daughter and her spouse

By rockyrosellini |

Appetizers (calamari and cauliflower/rice) were very delicious. All fish or steak entrees were reasonably priced. The cocktails (especially the jalapeño margarita) was very tasty. Restraint is small and quaint. Reservations are needed. Wine list for reds and whites was excellent. They also serve a burger, if steak and fish is not to your liking.

Once neighborhood staple clearly in decline

By C Keith G |

We have been frequent patrons of this restaurant over the last few years and have usually been satisfied. Sadly, our most recent visit suggests a restaurant in decline. We were dining with another couple who had arrived before us. When we arrived, we were immediately struck but the awful table at which our friends were seated, especially given the countless empty better tables in the main dining room. After greeting our friends and before taking our seats I commented on the table and said I was going to request a different table. To my surprise, our friends informed us that they had already asked and had been denied. I shared that I would ask as well. Initially, they refused to change our table when I requested also but when I explained the reasons for our request, the hostess acting as if she was doing us a favor worthy of sainthood, offered a different table but said she needed the table back in 2 hours. Once she indicated the grand “favor” table was the one stuck in the cramped corner immediately adjacent to the server station, we declined and decided we would leave to a different restaurant. As we were preparing to leave, another staff member asked if the booth table near-by would be better. We agreed that it would and thanked her for allowing us to switch to that booth. There was no indication of a time constraint regarding this new table. Unfortunately, from that point on, the experience continued to worsen and ended in a manner of which I have never even heard and certainly not experienced. Our waiter constantly pressured and rushed us throughout our entire dinner. We had not even looked at a menu yet and he was asking for our orders repeatedly. He was so rushed to keep us moving that he brought me the wrong drink. We all refused to allow his repeated interruptions and pressuring to irritate us and were determined to enjoy our time and dinner together despite the pressured service. They were out of one of the appetizers we ordered, one arrived cold but we didn’t complain and ordered another and our third appetizer was soggy and salty. They are usually quite stingy with their sea bass portion so we were surprised when a nice sized piece of fish arrived. Unfortunately, it was over-cooked and tough, tasting and with a consistency more like dry, bland cod than the usual oily flaky wonderful that sea bass normally delivers. The mussels were small, bland and over-cooked, as well. Again, despite all of this, we were simply enjoying being together with our friends and were not interested in complaining about any of this. However, when we asked to see a dessert menu and the waiter who had been rushing us the entire meal intimated we may not have time for dessert and followed that up by telling us when we tried to order dessert that they needed our table and we could not have dessert, we had had enough. We were incredulous. So much so that one member of our party completely misunderstood what he was telling us initially with his intimation as she could not imagine a restaurant telling a patron they could not order dessert. At this point, we could not hide our irritation and shared with the waiter that we had not appreciated his having rushed and interrupted us throughout our meal and to please simply bring us our check. The manager followed and expressed shock that we could possibly have felt rushed and apologized. At this point, we simply wanted the check so we could go somewhere else to enjoy our time with our friends. We kept waiting and waiting for the check. Where was their urgency all of the sudden? We were then visited by Lynae, one of the owners, who went on a strange rambling discourse about how one could not become rich in the restaurant business. It was truly bizarre. She handed out business cards to anyone who would take one and still we waited. And waited and waited for the check. Finally, it arrived and we paid for our disappointing meal and rushed interrupted service. And as we were exiting we noticed the irony of the empty tables around us. There are so many wonderful dining options in Dallas. One can easily find much better food and much better service across many different price points. There is no need to frequent an establishment that seeks to rush their clients so they can turn, turn, turn those tables. We won’t be back and if they keep treating their clients like this no one else will either. Eventually, restaurants like this succumb to the shortcomings of their food and service.

Too loud to eat

The food was good, but I will never go back. You couldn’t hear the person next to you unless they screamed in your face. Not good during COVID.

Awesome

From the Low Country of South Carolina, I know my fresh fish. After a dinner there with my wife while visiting our Dallas daughter, I was curious how a spot in Dallas could make such a wonderful first impression of fresh choices. So I went back for a late lunch of mostly oysters paired with a Sancerre-both superb. I was fortunate to meet the owner who shared a glass and explained that Dallas was an airport hub (duh, guess I should have thought about that) for several coasts so daily deliveries are on ice not frozen. I have been back numerous times and you won’t find better fish. Sure it costs but most good things do. Go there!

Great seafood & romance in Texas

By Aaron L |

Lovers Seafood Market in Dallas is well worth a visit. We enjoyed a romantic evening there and powered through some tasty seafood choices. We selected the seafood tower (not sure of exact name) that basically had everything on it. If you’re debating what you want, and you are with someone, it’s the perfect dish. Yes, it’s a bit expensive but you cannot go wrong. The oyster disk on the bottom was a great treat, too. Highly recommended. We’ll be back for sure when we’re in the city.

Loved it!

By chrisjcarrie |

We weren't that hungry so we only ordered a couple of appetizers and an entree. The oysters and gumbo were very tasty. But the Pecan Crusted Rainbow Trout with Corn-Poblano Grits was off the charts. Perfect combination. While I don't normally don't give 5 stars, this place deserved it.

Complimentary popcorn? Unexpected treat!

By twinkshouse |

The food at Lovers Seafood and Market was outstanding! Interestingly, they start you off with complimentary Dill Pickle Popcorn, which seems out of the ordinary, but was quite enjoyable. I selected the Salmon, pan seared, with Fries and Mac and Cheese. This Salmon is possibly the best I've ever eaten, and the servers recommendation was that it be cooked medium, however, I did ask for a little more cooked through (over medium) and for my taste, it was cooked perfectly and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Fries were also really good, but I wasn't as impressed with the Mac and Cheese. My daughter, however, liked the Mac and Cheese a lot. My daughter had the Grilled Lavender Bass, with Green Chile Cheese Grits and Asian inspired Brussel Sprouts. The sampling I had of her dishes were all excellent and I was particularly impressed by the Grits, because typically I'm not a fan, but these are a dish that I'd actually order, on my next visit, as one of my sides. Our server was very helpful and she provided a thorough explanation of the menu, some recommendations and suggestions and made a lot of effort to see that we were taken care of. The restaurant feels upscale, but comfortable and it's not cheap, but worth the price . I think there was some outdoor seating, but we sat inside. We did self park directly in front of the building, but I think we just got lucky, as that did seem limited. They do have valet parking as well. Overall, this is a restaurant I'd recommend if you are looking for exceptional seafood.

Fresh seafood

Second visit here and I’ve enjoyed it both times. Had seared halibut and fresh cauliflower and broccoli. Both were delicious. Sampled the Mac and cheese. It was good but not great. Next time I’ll have to try the key lime pie.

Excellent food and service. My Seared Trout was the best. The creamed potatoes were delicious as was Gumbo and Salmon. The staff was attentive and manager/owner very accommodating.

Delicious

We were looking for something new in the way of seafood. We had the tuna tower, a variety of six oysters, and all had different entrees. (Scallops, Fish and Chips, and the Salmon bowl). All were very good, and we will be back! We were there for a late lunch, so the crowd was thin but several at the bar.

Always Perfect

By Russell C |

I love this restaurant. Reservations recommended. Excellent drinks and friendly bartenders if you sit at the bar. Start with the amazing hushpuppies. Can’t go wrong with oysters, good selection. Daily market specials. Pecan crusted trout is the best I have ever had, large filling portion. I recommend the Cajun slaw or Brussel sprouts as sides. The scallops are large and perfectly seared. Flavorful crust, tender and not overcooked. Normally you would receive 3 scallops but here you will get 4-5. Fish and chips, not very sexy but really excellent. Comfortable and nice décor. Valet parking.

Consistently Excellent

By 793lexs |

After our most recent visit to Lovers Seafood, I have to commend the management for doing a great job on the often overlooked aspects of the restaurant experience which make a restaurant one we want to return to. In addition to excellent food and a well hired staff, management has created a great ambiance. Many restaurants with good food miss somewhere. Lights that are too bright, tables too close together, inappropriate music for the clientele, are all elements of a restaurant which will be a one visit and done. Lovers Seafood is a nice example of a restaurant done well. They consistently provide a great meal and a great experience (the patio is also great although just a bit too hot right now).

We go to this restaurant at least once a week for lunch. My husband always has the gumbo, which he says is the best in town & I often have the smoked salmon appetizer (they smoke it themselves) but today I had their homage to the Texas State Fair - Shrimp Corny Dogs. Pretty fun as well as delicious. They have a great bar and an outside patio when the weather is nice.

Lovely evening, drink, food, and ambiance

By Traveler_from_Dallas |

Dinner was wonderful. Tuna tartar (called the Elvis) with shishido peppers (try them, they are so good and not hot), shrimp and grits which are the best I have eaten anyplace. The oreo cheesecake we split and it was like a thick mousse with oreo crust. The next day I wanted to go back and get the peppers and cheesecake to take home. This is a really nice restaurant. Not much of a parking lot but they have a good valet service. We forgot our phone on the table and turned around to go back and when the valet saw us pull in, he ran in and got the phone for us before we even had to ask. This is a wonderful place with great food. Oh year, we had a dozen oysters to begin. It was a night of feasting.

I Waited a Day...

By Lee F |

Other than a couple sitting at bar, making loud sounds with the bartender, we were only people in the place, where loud country western music blasted into every corner. Quick look at the menu told me a little about why it is not so popular—prices are awesomely expensive for what I would describe as an upscale fish shack. Staff was slow to bring drinks, slow to bring twice requested water, and slow to bring food. There were several people wandering around dining room, but seemed to be more interested in studying something at the reservations desk than distress of solo diners. Grouper special was good. Shellfish slaw lacked taste—promised cilantro was absent and shellfish consisted of tiny shrimp and a single morsel of lobster. I will not return. This place used to be packed!

Disaster

By Ashley S |

WOW what a disaster. I waited to get assistance from any employee. One guy shucking oysters apologized multiple times. He gave me a written menu of the fresh seafood. No fresh seafood in sight so I could not even see what I was buying. I asked where the seafood is from. His response: "all over." Gee, thanks, helpful. Did not provide any help on types of fish or how to prepare. I asked how long I can keep in fridge. He said a week! When it starts to smell fishy, you'll know. Well by that time the seafood is shot! I am well aware 1-2 days is the maximum amount of time to keep raw seafood in your fridge! As I picked out the fish on my own, he said the total. It was not correct. He said "Huh. That price I gave you does not match the computer." He went to get another guy. No apology offered or anything. I said "Well, are you going to provide me the written prices?" Otherwise that would be false advertising. His voice immediately changed to a high pitched overjoyed sound and said: "SURE. It would be my pleasure!" I have no idea if he was being genuine or an absolute jerk. It sounded like the latter. No apology given througout all this. It took about 15 minutes for me to get raw fish to go. I felt very awkward and uncomfortable throughout the whole experience. The only good part was that the other guy asked if I wanted ice.

Great seafood

By Mark J |

Fantastic. This was our first time at Lovers. The last time I was in this building it was Rex's Seafood. We made reservations for 6 on a Friday and it was already pretty busy when we arrived. We used the complementary valet and were seated quickly. We tried out a few cocktails, the Cool as a Cucumber, the highball, and the old fashioned. They were all delicious. They placed a small bowl of dill pickle popcorn in the table while we waited for our drinks. The popcorn was great, tangy and delicious. For apps we ordered half a dozen oysters and the shrimp corny dogs. The oysters were very fresh and delicious, the shrimp corny dogs were amazing. Not what I expected. They were jumbo shrimp in a delicious corn dog batter. I highly recommend them. For entrees we had the shrimp and grits and the lobster roll. These were both very delicious. I highly recommend the truffle fries as well. We capped it off with the keylime pie. Not too sweet, just a refreshing pie to end the night. I really don't have anything really negative to say. The service was great. The only small nitpicks I have are that the restaurant is pretty small and the table are pretty close together. I wish they were spaced out a bit more to have a little more intimacy. Also, be prepared to wait a bit for valet to get your car since they have to run down the block since the parking lot is a bit small. Overall, this is my new favorite for seafood.

Innovative and environmentally conscious seafood restaurant.

Lovers Seafood and Grill is a casual dining restaurant serving Contemporary Californian/seafood cuisine located in Dallas, Texas. This was my first time eating there. We were looking for a place to grab a quick bite after landing at DFW, came across this place on OpenTable and booked it. In terms of options, the menu offerings are extensive,. Regarding quality and presentation of food, the restaurant was very good. Some of the menu items I tried include: Tempura Fried Lobster Spoons, Crispy Shrimp "Corny Dog", Elvis' Tuna Tartare Tower, and the Old School Griddled Lobster "Tacos" which were all very good. Everything was cooked to order. Portion size was appropriate for the price point and restaurant style. Customers can expect to pay roughly thirty person, including drinks. During this most recent visit, we did make reservations in advance, and it took approximately 0-5 minutes to be seated. Drinks came out fast. Appetizers came out fast. Main courses came out fast. The serving staff was friendly and hospitable. I’d best describe the atmosphere of the restaurant as being laid back; seems to be a popular lunch spot. It’s feels trendy without being stuffy, which does lend itself to the intended brand identity and cuisine style. Regarding ambiance, the restaurant is naturally lit and the noise level is average. It is a good choice for families with small children or those looking to grab a quick bite. Scale wise, tables are spread out within multiple dining rooms, lending itself to the restaurant’s comforting and casual feel. Overall, I would recommend.

So many good, fresh choices....but the baby octopus is a MUST try...

By VeryWellTraveledGuy |

Enjoyed a nice dinner on their new patio, nice shaded spot for hand-muddled cocktails and a terrific menu. We plowed through many appetizers including delicious lobster pops, briny PEI oysters, and a caesar salad with fresh spanish anchovies. While the only dish I found lacking was the seafood slaw (not nearly enough crab or lobster, heavy on the shrimp), the BABY OCTOPUS was to die for, on a bed of fried kale and chevre...I'll go back and eat that 2x.

Enjoyed our experience there!

We really enjoyed this place. Had the oysters Rockefeller and lobster rolls. Both were really good. Atmosphere was wonderful and very friendly waitstaff. We will be back

This is the site of another old Dallas restaurant. Thank you for the resurrection. Lots of local neighborhood flavor and a very good menu with many eclectic choices.

Great seafood - good service

By ChuckDallas |

I was @ the restaurant for lunch w/ two friends - the greeting when I arrived was pleasant and sincere - the server took the clue that we wanted to talk - and didn't push the table for an order - when we did order the good was great - I plan to give dinner a try!

Aweful!

By gogigi2014 |

Probably The worst ever.I’m so sorry to have to write this review as this restaurant is in my neighborhood. I ordered the seafood platter, and the fried oysters had a weird taste and the shrimp were smaller than popcorn shrimp. My husband ordered the cod and is was extremely greasy. My friend ordered the fish tacos and she could not eat them as they were dreadful. Our server kept trying to bring our friend a second drink which was not ordered. The restaurant was full of people, and I could not understand how this place has stayed in business. We will not return!!!!!!

Our New Local Favorite

By Paul P |

I am very diligent about reviewing restaurants when I travel; at home not so much. But we ate at Lovers Seafood twice recently and it was outstanding both times. The first time was on the spur of the moment and all of the outside tables were occupied. I had snapper and it was so fresh and simple. The side of jalapeño cheese grits was sublime. We also split a great Caesar and my wife had a good crab cake. The Brussels sprouts are great too. We were intrigued as the action seemed to be outside where they had a guy on guitar and it seemed like the place to be. A couple of weeks later we had some friends in from out of town so we reserved a table outside for lunch. On Saturday they have a brunch menu that includes crab cake Benedict, on if the favorites. It did not disappoint! Again everything was fresh and tasty and the service was great. The only minor criticism is that it takes forever to get a mixed drink. (Have to have a Bloody with crab cakes bene.). Order mixed drinks early! This is our new go-to.

PERFECT evening flawless service

By motrv8 |

Everyone was super friendly. Waitstaff was knowledgeable and just the level of service was fantastic. They had live music and the guy was really good! Our server was Amber M. We had the Faroe Salmon and Fall salad. You must try the Fall Salad. The blend of tastes was exceptional. Trust me on this. I’m a salad snob and this was the best salad I’ve ever had. Management was super friendly and accommodating. It was just an exceptional evening due to ambiance and service. I can honestly recommend this place. We sat outside and they had decorated it for the holidays.

Very good but pricey!

By kristianna419 |

I chose Lovers Seafood to meet friends for my birthday dinner. Before heading over there last night I read online reviews which were mixed but most noted the smaller portions for higher prices. When I arrived last night I was shown nothing but the most friendly, warm welcome by several members of the staff. That alone makes me want to go back! We had a lovely table on the patio, our server Patrick was fun and patient as the rest of our group was late. The food, yes, amazing, very delicious seafood!!! We were all impressed. I do have to agree though that you don’t get much for your money, size wise. We had the calamari to start, it was strips instead of the cliche rings, and it was wonderful. I ordered the shrimp and grits, the shrimp was grilled perfectly and whatever they do to the grits is heaven. However 5 shrimp and a smallish portion of grits is not what most Dallas diners are used to for $22. I thought it was perfect, I finished every bite and that NEVER happens. I recommend a visit, just be prepared in case you’re expecting Pappadeaux sized servings at Long John Silver prices!

W/ my beautiful wife

By O1628YTedwardh |

Well, we have 5 teenagers and we can’t get out too often. At last minute we snuck out this past Tuesday night for a late dinner after 8. Our waitress, Jodi M., could not have been more knowledgeable, professional, personable and just plain awesome. Chef Kent happened to be there and came and visited with us for about 20 mins. After he was gone, I asked Jodi to have Chef Kent choose. Well, what I got I would not have ordered in in 20 years. Shrimp & grits. It was incredible and best of all, the shrimp was cooked to perfection. My wife had the halibut over quinoa. The quinoa had sooo much flavor it was to die for and halibut was again cooked to perfection. By the way, we started with dozen cold water oysters (asst) and gumbo. You can truly tell it is a chef driven restaurant with, you guessed it, at least one chef present. Can’t wait to go back!

Third time was not the charm. We thought we'd give one last shot. You know the food is bad when you Google BEFORE you get the check if your dogs can eat seafood. Dogs had a very expensive dinner of King Crab Legs.

Seafood Remains Supreme, But There Similarities End

By Lee F |

While the footprint of the place remains the same, decor inside has been dramatically upgraded from a rather ordinary diner-like vibe to a sleek greytoned restaurant with classy oyster bar, and trendy community dining bar. I will admit that I kept looking for and missed the gigantic specials black board. Restaurant has good selection of wines, now served in traditional wine glasses. In addition to beer and wine restaurant now also has mixed drinks, including bottomless mimosas on weekend. Extensive menu includes good selection of oysters, special fish of the day(you can place clean your own from the market area, as well as three variations on a lobster roll. We loved the gumbo, lots of flavor and a great after burn. Shrimp and grits very good, with grits being creamy and filled with flavor. Fish sandwich was good. Accompanying fries were a bit salty for my taste. Prices may be a little too high---although fresh seafood is costly, and portions perhaps a bit undersized. We did miss the wonderful home cooked sides that were on menu when this was Rex's. We were delighted to see several of service staff had returned.

Will return!

First time! Excellent Food and Service. Started with the Tuna Tartare Tower. My husband had the Shellfish Curry dish. I had the Ceasar Salad and Mussels. Will be going back!

Wow

Another wonderful dinner, kindness and great service from front door to bar to server to valet guys. Menu has many delicious options. Great wine list and several nice wines by the glass. Fish recommend by the waiter was right on. I’d love to keep this a secret but they deserve an outstanding rating!

Anniversary Dinner

Beautiful atmosphere, great service, but the food was average. I must confess that I'm a harsh critic when it comes to seafood having lived 50 years on the Gulf coast.

Average All Around

By Texas Transplant |

We had a 7PM reservation. Valet parking for the car (small lot) and we were seated within a few minutes. The place was very busy and table close together. The service was OK but felt like we were being rushed because we do not drink. My wife had the lobster roll and I had the Hamburger (not a seafood person). The lobster roll was not the traditional preparation. Meals were good but not great. The highlight was the fries.

Super fresh seafood; great options

By Luv2TravelFarNWide |

Lots of options on the menu so making a choice was difficult. Went with a group and between us we tried the blackened Texas redfish, pecan crusted trout, lobster tacos, and fish and chips. All of them winners. Nice wines, cocktails, beers to choose from. Great service. Large outdoor seating area (shaded) as well as indoor options. Went at lunch (on a weekday) and pretty much had the indoors to ourselves. However we're told this place has long lines at dinner. Definitely want to make a reservation. This place is not cheap, but it was worth it. Everything was great.

Highly recommended!!!

By Bjewelz5 |

My husband and I had lunch here. All of the employees are very professional and friendly!! They treated us as a valued guest! It was very refreshing! But then there is the AMAZING food!! We started with the shrimp stuffed bacon wrapped jalapeños! I highly recommend them! For lunch, I chose the fresh divers scallops with the roasted broccoli & cauliflower salad. My husband chose the burger and fries. We savored every bite!! Just absolutely the best!! We can not wait to return!!

First Time Here--Oyster Review Only

By CaptainFB |

We were on a mission today to taste as many different oysters from various regions from various restaurants in North Dallas. Bottom line....the West Coast oyster they labeled Willapa Bay from Totten Inlet,WA were the best we tasted all day after sampling four places in Dallas. They were slightly salty but had one awesome sweet cucumber kick at the end. Our testing was only by eating the oysters straight......no crackers, no sauce, none of that. We wanted the flavor of the oyster on our palettes . This place was the ONLY place that had any west coast oysters. This review is basically an agreement among three unique tasters: one from Boston and two from the small place called DFW (one of which owns a gourmet twisted Asian restaurant in Denton, Tx) We will be back another time to try other items. Enjoy Captain FB

Good food but not for the claustrophobic

By gordotx |

We stopped into this fairly new seafood spot on a busy Saturday night with a reservation for 7:15 and were informed a table was not yet available. For the next 20 minutes or so we hugged the inside wall of the dining room, almost joining the diners who had tables closest to the entrance. After 15 minutes of this discomfort we inched our way over to the bar and stood for a while right behind the folks who were eating there. This is how we were introduced to Lovers main problem: management has made the decision to shoehorn as any tables as possible into a fairly small place, and the result is an uncomfortable wait if you are not seated immediately. I get the need to max out the number of diners in a small space, but there is simply not enough room in this small restaurant for a smooth transition from parking lot to dining. And once you’re seated, the tables are Way too close together. A perfect illustration of this: we ordered a bottle of Prosecco and the waiter placed the bottle cooler on the table, which was already a bit small for four diners. Not even enough space between tables for a standing ice bucket. But the good thing about Lovers is the menu, which offers a bounty of appealing dishes; I saw 8 or 10 entrees I would have ordered. We choose coconut shrimp bites and deviled eggs for starters and both were very good, although at $6 per the eggs were overpriced. Entrees ordered included fish tacos (“good”), ceviche (“very good”), trout on shrimp grits (“ excellent “), and seafood chunks in crunchy slaw (“unique but a little tasteless”). The generous slice of key lime pie was great, and the crepe brûlée was flawless. So in spite of the dining room setup, the food was fine. We might come back to get into more of the appealing menu, but we’ll sit at the bar.

Valentines Night Dinner

By Justin B |

Never been there before, until that night. We shared the hush puppies and the shishitos for an app. Very good. I ordered the Scallops and my wife had a fish. Food was very good, but there were only 3 scallops on my plate. For $39 I thought that 3 were not enough. Service was great and the popcorn at the table is some of the best. Had 2 glasses of wine, which I thought were a little over-priced as well. Overall it was a nice dinner, but the cost was not justified for what we had.

Horrible

By TheTravelFoodie |

We waited a long time to place our order then waited a long time in between courses and then for dinner to arrive. A little exasperating. Maybe it was Saturday night? The atmosphere was almost like the empty nester crowd. There was no carpeting so the chatter was sometimes ear-splitting. I ordered a rosé and my husband a Chardonnay. My glass was 1/5th filled and when I remarked about the stingy pour, the gentleman who brought it kindly came back with the bottle to add more. My husband's gumbo was bland. I had just done a cooking class in New Orleans and this one paled in comparison. It came out hot though. My charred corn hush puppy appetizer had maybe 2-3 nibblets of corn in total. It was mainly fried cornmeal, flour, egg and water. My husband ordered a grilled barramundi with a side of a few broccoli florets. Small for $29. The fish, we both agreed, was heavily salted. My Connecticut lobster roll ($29)had soupy butter and lots of lemon (yuck)that soaked through the bread making it soggy and broken in bits. That moisture soaked through the thin wax paper lining the wire basket. Not a good idea for a serving platter. I lifted the lobster roll to put it on a plate and the bread just disintegrated dropping lobster bits everywhere. Yes, the lobster bits, not chunks, were dry and stringy. Tasteless at best. They couldn't even get the accompanying fries right. They were soggy and cold and not crispy in the least. The Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top didn't even melt. I thought they were little crunchy chips of paint that had fallen in by mistake. The waiter said that truffle fries are usually soaking in oil because of the truffle oil. I can think of 3 places at the top of my head that produce superb crisp truffle fries without them being soggy and glistening in oil. By the way, the bottom layer of fries had zero truffle flavor but was soggy, greasy, limp and glistening with oil -- just like the top layer. We wanted to like this place. What a total disappointment. And for $140! Not even worth half that I'm sad to say. I can't say we'll return.

Best Gumbo outside on NOLA

Troublesome Service for Expensive Seafood

By Sam L |

Since I am a fan of Shinsei, I thought this place would be its equal for seafood, but I was sadly mistaken. It's been open long enough to have trained the wait staff, but service was sorely lacking. We had to ask over and over to get water served and then refilled. The food itself was generally good, except for one huge miss. The oysters from the raw bar were quite good and fresh, but skip the ginger sauce--not even worth trying. The sesame crusted red snapper was well cooked, but lacked the promised spice in the broth. The fried shrimp were ordinary, but nothing special. The ahi tuna was good, but the flavors of the dish were not exceptional. The most disturbing aspect of the meal was the charred broccoli and cauliflower. This dish was truly awful. Instead of taking a rather straightforward selection of vegetables and charring them to bring out their natural flavors, the chefs did very little charring and instead drenched the vegetables in a strikingly bad aioli and added a huge amount of cheese on top. The resulting creation was one of the worst dishes ever served at a restaurant and was practically inedible. The desserts--key lime pie and smores pie--were good, but nothing exceptional. Oh, and I almost forgot--the restaurant's version of a moscow mule had flat ginger beer and practically no alcohol in it. Considering the huge tab that arrived at the end of the meal, I don't think I will return for a while. Dallas needs really good seafood places--this place is not going to be one of them.

The seafood was very good and the hush puppies were wonderful. The desserts was also wonderful. A very nice meal and a nice dining experience.

Best food EVER! We were a group of 5 friends, and shared our food. Lobster tacos, mahi mahi tacos, shrimp & grits, truffle fries, ahi tuna poke bowl, corn & charred poblano hush puppies. We raved about the marvelous flavors, and excellent service! We will certainly be back!

Seafood dinner was ok

We tried this new place on Lovers Lane. Neighborhood Place....I was not that impressed. The slaw was over dressed (my soft shell crab was placed onto of this), the crab was tasteless, but cooked well. The New Orleans gumbo was way too spicy, I could not eat it. I will try this again...maybe it was how and what I ordered...was hoping for better!

REally good seafood

Went here for dinner tonight. Scallops were great and (I am told) the King Salmon was as well. Started out with blue cheese chips (yummy) and a seafood slaw which was actually probably enough for a meal. But still had to get a creme brulee and a key lime pie and wash it all down with a nice malbec.

Excellent seafood handy to city dwellers

It's no mean trick to present excellent seafood fare on the prairie. Lynae Fearing and Kent Rathbun's talented bride have turned the trick in an informal, contemporary but classy room on Lovers just west of the Tollway. There's a pretty extensive variety of seafood entrees and appetizers offered, flown in daily. We had the gumbo, lobster lollipops and coconut shrimp. Superb. The special was a wonderfully seasoned grouper that three of us chose and the fourth's blackened redfish also received high marks. The only glitch was the sauce the kitchen left off the grouper special, but our server noticed and rapidly brought to the table. Her attention was superb throughout. Lynae was much in evidence working the room and provided a great personal welcome and great menu counsel. We'll be back. Rating only reflects my very high standards. We were very pleased. Maybe next time we'll be totally knocked out.

Sitting outside on a lovely day. Excellent lobster tacos and Ceasar's salad. Not cheap but worth it.

Lovers Seafood and Market is simply awesome. The food is wonderful and the service is outstanding. Oh, did I mention desserts, save room for them.
