We expected to eat a delicious meal instead we were served a very indifferent meal which had no flavor at all. The wine was over priced and mediocre. Save your money and go elsewhere to eat.

This restaurant on the northwest side has maintained a very high quality of food and service. The ambiance is pleasant and there is an outdoor dining area if you like that. The menu has lots of choices but anything with their signature lemon sauce is a good bet. The polenta cakes appetizer is a case in point. I always say I'm going to try something else but I always choose it. The Osso Buco is excellent. The location in a shopping center is not prominent but it's worth finding. It may be the best thing in this part of town

Luce is consistently a great place for dinner with friends. Have been going here for years yet haven't written a review. Most recently I discussed it as being one of my SA favorite "best of the best". It's tucked away in a convenient shopping center and offers a relaxing and quaint setting indoors & out. The food and wine selections are excellent. Wait staff is well trained and able to offer suggestions for the evening. Sauces are wonderfully prepared. Wither with friends or in a business setting Luce is a great choice for great food, wine, and conversation.

My wife and I decided to check out this restaurant during restaurant week. The service was great. The server was very attentive. The food was very good. I haven’t had a cold seafood salad since I left NY over 30 years ago. It was a little different from what I remember, but just as good. The entrees were wonderful and plentiful. The deserts weren’t as good as I remembered, but adequate. All in all, we had a good experience.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner and while the food was very good (my husband's family are all italian), the service left a lot to be desired. While waiting for our appetizers, we had to ask for a bread basket, noticing that all the other tables had theirs immediately. Our server was very slow in re-filling our drinks. Both our entrees were good, but after finishing, we waited forever for our server to remove our plates and box up some left overs. We couldn't find him anywhere. Finally, another server noticed us sitting (for what seemed like forever), came over to remove the plates and then another showed up to box our leftovers. Then, they stood by the kitchen gesturing and looking for our server as well. When he was spotted, one of the servers spoke to him and he came with our check. We had to tell him we weren't finished and ask for a dessert menu. We noticed that before he turned in our dessert order, he walked over to chat with the hostess. Honestly, we'd considered leaving and stopping at a nearby ice cream shop for a dip. My gelato arrived melting which could have been the fault of the kitchen, not sure. Then it took a while for us to receive our check. We are surprised at the mediocre service given the fact that there appeared to be plenty of servers and the restaurant that, on a week nite, was only about 1/3 full. Before coming, we'd debated Luce's vs a 5 star restaurant but chose Luce. After we each ordered appetizer, entree, dessert, drinks and coffee we could have easily gone to the other place. The other servers appeared to be on top of things so maybe it was just this one individual.

What a disappointing lunch! Without proper service, it doesn’t matter how the food tastes. We were seated and given menus then ignored. Others had the luxury to look at a menu with hot bread and water. Our waiter never came over. We got up to leave and he finally rushed over. He knocked my butter knife on the floor accidentally and never brought a new one. No onions on salad as requested. Didn’t write down our order and we had to correct him 3 times. Asked for tea which didn’t come. Asked another waitress to check on our waiter. We watched as another table ordered lemon aid and received it pronto from our waiter. We finally asked another waitress about our tea. At the end we couldn’t get his attention for the bill. The other waitresses were on the ball with their tables but studiously avoided eye contact with us and were aware we were abandoned. I didn’t appreciate or respect the wait staff for this reason. The salmon was good, the meatloaf was dry and grainy. The goat cheese on my salad consisted of one pea-size ball. Disappointing experience and will never go back. This was a $47 lunch and with the tip expected at a restaurant like this, they should be more on the ball and work more as a team as well.

This is a small place with huge flavor. I went here for appetizers which does not do this place credit. The food is absolutely amazing. I would try each and every item on the menu. I wish I could eat that much. I particularly enjoyed the shrimp. The white sauce is creamy and beautifully balanced. The meatballs can keep this restaurant open forever. When you ask for bread, it is hot and flavorful. You are treated well here. It is a small place inside, but there is a covered patio. Once the weather turns, you MUST sit there. One last thing. The calamari is above good. It comes with an aioli sauce that is out of this world. You must try this restaurant.

We enjoyed our previous dinner experiences at Luce so today when I discovered that they are now serving lunch daily at 11:30 AM we just had to try it. Our server was Douglas and he was very friendly and helpful. Their lunch entrees include a salad all for about $15. We had their Caprese salad. This was mozzarella cheese with Beefsteak tomatoes, basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. The Mista salad had mixed greens, chopped celery, radishes, and cucumbers. Also goat cheese truffle, roasted tomato, prosciuto with balsamic dressing. Both salads were amazing. They serve a three pasta dish that's impressive and available with gluten free noodles. The pastas are shrimp pesto, Bolognese with wild boar and pulled duck morsels. The third pasta was chicken Alfredo with a rich creamy sauce. There is enough for 3 meals. The veal piccata was tasty with a large slice of tender veal with capers and lemon butter sauce. The mushroom risotto was scrumptious, the mixed veggies were al dente. So lunch here is also amazing and service is consistently good.

The service was wonderful! The happy hour menu is great and the drinks are made fresh. Definitely would recommend!

Lovely atmosphere here. Presentation was very nice and service was great. It was a little loud for normal conversation but overall a lovely place. We found the food only slightly above average. My husband had the osso bucco and it wasn’t tender. My ravioli was disappointing also. We might go back again and try different dishes.

Lovely atmosphere. Unfortunately the food didn't live up to the ambiance. Service was slow. The bread in the bread basket was too dense although the trio of flavored butters was nice. The bread with the crostone was much better. The ceasar salad was fine. Although they seem to specialize in risotto it's not our favorite so we requested spaghetti with butter and garlic as a side. We got spaghetti but it came with a flavorless tomato broth. Our chicken was only fair and one dish had very little taste and the marsala sauce had way too much garlic. . Won't be back.

Always looking for that special place to take customers, well here you go another winner. This is up by the Medical Center and place was packed, lots of energy. We sat in front by the windows and had a great view of the whole place. Wine list was mainly Italian and unfortunately don't know anything about them. We both had the veal Osso Busco very tender with risotto and vegetables. Again the service was spot on and again the place has a real energy which was fantastic. Will be back

This is a perfect place to have a quiet romantic dinner with your loved one. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with a friendly and sincere smile. Great Food, Staff and Atmosphere. This is where my hubby proposed to me and I said "YES"... :)

Made a reservation on open table when we arrived they informed us there was no available inside tables even though we reserved an indoor table. We were then seated outside in the heat and mosquitos where my wife got eaten up by mosquitos. The service was very poor, like we were an afterthought and we waited over 30 mins just to order our meals. The food was pretty good but I disliked paying $70+ on a meal when we received poor service from the start.

Ambiance was nice, the server was pleasant & efficient. Food was disappointing. I ordered the risotto with langoustine and Italian sausage. The risotto came out in a big sticky heap with large slices of overcooked sausage. The langoustine was also overcooked and very chewy. The dish of the butter trio was dried out on top as though it had sitting out for awhile and was not the least bit appetizing. One out of the four members of our dinner party liked their entree. Two people ordered the chicken Marsala and both agreed it was overcooked and neither cared for the dark, mahogany colored sauce. It was our first time visiting and may be the last.

A friend of mine had raved about their happy hour so I decided to give it a try. I was terribly disappointed. I got a insalata di Mare, sea food salad, that tasted rubbery and bland. When I came across a clear plastic piece of wrapper in the bowl it sort of confirmed my suspicions that it was a store bought mix. If not I dread to think of where the plastic wrap came from. I also got the Fried Artichoke Hearts. They were not very good either. Soggy is the only way to describe them. They would have been somewhat inedible if it wasn't for the Citrus Aioli sauce. The drink prices were great as were the appetizers but regardless of how inexpensive the food was it wasn't worth it even at that price.

Lovely night out with friends on the patio. Excellent selection of pizzas and antipasto at reasonable prices. The $5 Cosmo was tasty! Service was great- I will return.

I made a reservation via Open Table for Valentine’s day after reading the good reviews on line. My wife and I arrived there about 10 minutes early and requested to seat outside. Even though the restaurant is in a shopping center, the patio is cozy, with a nice fireplace, and fairly quiet. We were seated then watched the two waiters that were working the patio pass by our table for about 7 minutes before one acknowledged us. Apparently there was some confusion about who was supposed to handle our table. We ordered wine and the mussels for starters, my wife ordered the pasta fagioli and I ordered Pennette con Polpette e Salsiccia (rigatoni with meatballs and sausage in a marinara sauce). The mussels were OK, with the spiciness of the sauce overwhelming the garlic and tomato flavors. My wife’s soup was bland. It tasted like Campbell’s tomato soup with pasta and white beans, while my marinara sauce was very unbalanced to the point of being sour.

Amazing food and spectacular service. Great place for a lunch business meeting. I always have a great experience with Luce.

This restaurant was very solid; good food, great service. Everything we ordered was well done. The giant meatball appetizer is a must.

We just had dinner with 45 people at this restaurant. I called Alice and told her I had a large party with gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and separate checks that I needed to accommodate at short notice. She set us up in the wine room and they went over the top on taking incredible care of us. The food itself was amazing. I am gluten free and don't do dairy and the chef prepared a custom salmon dish that was phenom and my son loved his gluten free crust. A hidden gem in San Antonio. On my favorites list!! Thank you guys so much!!! The vegetarians also loved this place and the wine room is perfect for large parties.

We'd seen this restaurant many times hidden in a corner of a strip mall on Huebner, but dropped in during happy hour on a Friday to try it out. Didn't have reservations, but were able to sit in the bar area at a small table. The happy hour drink selections were great, as was the appetizer menu. We actually made a meal of appetizers, which were delicious! They had a great selection of Italian dishes...loved the butternut squash ravioli and the olive sampler. I had never tasted olives like they served! I assume they were traditional Italian varieties.... Unusual but delicious! All in all, very affordable during happy hour! Definitely will go back! They also have a lovely patio that would be perfect on spring & fall evenings.

Very attentive service from Adam. Nice ambiance. Food was above average. My husband rolled his eyes over with a mmmmm when he took his first bite of his meal which was a pasta with shrimp. I had the pennette with meatballs which was good. The meatballs were missing that special something. Overall great time.

So earlier tonight during happy hour I was here at Luce with some coworkers. We had some beverages and appetizers. The waitress was working the inside and outside. We sat outside, yes it was a bit cool, but they had outside heating. They have 4 heaters outside and a fireplace to be exact. Well only two of the heaters worked and the waitstaff put those closet to their regular customers. And the fireplace was never lit or didn't work, not sure which it was. If you had a Martini before they could bring you another one they had to wash the glass that you had. This was my first time there during happy hour. If you are expecting to busy you need to ensure you are staffed properly and that the equipment is working. Or close the outside during the colder times if you cannot get the heat working properly.

I went out with 9 people for a business dinner. We had the private room which was lined with wine racks and bottles. The service the whole night was quick and attentive and also provided recommendations. We started with a variety of appetizers including the meatballs, fried rice balls, calamari, and sausage/peppers. I thought the meatballs themselves were under seasoned, the rice balls were good, the calamari just ok, the sausage was fantastic. For dinner I had the gnochi with duck and pork ragu. This was a great dish and a large portion. Between the 9 of us we had 4 bottles of chianti Classico (I forget which specific one). My favorites were the sausage app, and the gnochi. Very good overall.

Whether you sit on the delightful patio or inside, happy hour at Luce is delicious and very reasonable. My favorite drink is the Peach Belini but raves for the Margaritas as well. They also have a nice selection of beer and wine for half price. Half price continues with the 20 or so appetizer choices. My favorites are the shrimp in lemon cream sauce, eggplant Parmesan and the pizza. I took a group of 17 here and the service was great, everyone enjoyed themselves and whatever they had picked from the menu. We will go back again and again as Luce is a favorite with my dining out group.

The restaurant is well appointed. The service was okay, but not great. The menu has a large selection of options , the bread with artisan butter was good. The main dishes were above average but not really enough to bring us back.

I went here for happy hour with some ladies. They had reasonable specials for drinks and food. I only give this a four out of five because I thought my mussels could have been meatier. Maybe that's a function of our location (not-coastal), but I was disappointed that there seemed to be a 1:100 ratio of meat to shell and broth.

This was our first time to dine at Lucia and we certainly plan to return soon! We were greeted promptly by our server, Chris, who explained specials of the day, and guided us through the menu since this was our first visit. Chris explained more about the soups and salads upon our inquiry, and made very good recommendations for our meal, including our entrees. My wife had the Pollo Carciofi which was a balanced blend of chicken, artichokes, risotto and sauce; I had the Braciola alla Napoletana which was savory with a wonderful blend of meat, nuts, and raisins. The portions were abundant leading us to package half our entrees to enjoy later so we could enjoy dessert. For dessert we chose the Torta di Ricotta which was delicious; a cheesecake full of flavor without being too rich or filling. We definitely want to return!

It is located in the back corner of a small shopping center. In fact I hadn't really noticed it there before. We stopped in for a late lunch since one in the party wanted to try it and none of us has been here before. Our waiter, Matthew was very cordial, professional, and efficient. The lunch menu includes soup or salad with pricing $14 to $19 and the dinner menu the sides are extra and pricing higher. The atmosphere is nice and it wasn't busy at all when we visited. They also have two areas for large groups as well as a small bar area. There is outside patio seating but this didn't appear to be kept up much during cold weather. They begin by bringing a basket of bread with a small dish of three condiments. All of this was very good. The food was presented well and also very good. We ordered the Vitello Picatto (one was chicken and one was veal) and it came with roasted potatoes. The serving size was good for lunch but pricier than we usually spend on lunch. All of the timing of service was just right. A great place for special occasions but too pricey for a quick lunch. Lunch ends at 2 pm and then they are closed until dinner serving.

Great place to unwind with a cocktail or glass of vino. Nice wine selection and the bar appetizer are amazing. Highly recommended

Ate here with a Groupon....taste entree with great meatballs and a great lobster ravioli. Unfortunately, Our server Maria just kept disappearing to who knows where and we had to ask other waiters for bits and pieces....a shame as the food was good.

One of the best values for an upscale dining experience on New Year''s eve. Both the Arancini di Riso and the Insalata Caprese appetizers were excellent. The Gamberi Limone was a wonderful garlic shrimp entree and the Linguine Mare Chiaro was an excellent seafood combination in a marinara sauce. Both at a reasonable price with a very nice atmosphere.

This is one of those restaurants where you should plan to wait a long time. Maybe a really long time. One thing that makes the waiting even less acceptable is when one of the meals, in the party of four, clearly hasn’t even been STARTED when the three others have been brought to the table. My husband who had had a very long day, and no lunch, couldn’t wait for our sons meal to be brought out- he FINISHED his meal before our son got his. Needless to say by the time his meal arrived the other meals were stone cold. Mine - the braciola was good- it would have been great hot. The chicken with artichokes was decent and my husbands veal piccata was edible although very tart and not in the usual piccata way. It’s not a small thing to forget someone’s meal. The kitchen should have noticed, but then certainly the server should have double checked before heading for the table with the other meals. If you are claiming to be a nice restaurant you have to get the niceties right. An offer of a complimentary dessert is laughable when your staring at your dinner getting cold waiting for them to get the dinner service complete.

We have been going to Luce since they opened and it has consistently been good. Food is prepared right, fresh, tasty, innovative recipes. Server staff could be a bit more respectful - as a female senior citizen, being address as "hey guys" is somewhat off-putting. That's fine for a burger joint -- but Luce? Okay for now; we'll go back.

Since Luce has opened for lunch, I have been there three times and will return for my wife's upcoming birthday. We dined twice in the lovely outside garden and once indoors Superb presentation, excellent food, great service, nice ambiance. We tried the salmon, veal scalloppini, N.Y. Steak and the scallops. Their tiramisu beats all others in town. I am taking all my guests there

Living in San Antonio we had been to this restaurant a number of times. It isn't our favorite Italian restaurant but the food has been fairly consistent and good. A while back we bought a Groupon discount for the dinner but we neglected to use it before it expired by one day. In the past we had talked with the owner a few times and he seemed friendly enough so I asked him to waive the expiration. He declined so I tried to use the Groupon for the purchase price, a term of condition supposedly always honored by merchants. Surprisingly he refused and said to take it up with Groupon. We haven't returned. Our problem wasn't with the food; as stated it is good although a bit overpriced. The problem was with the owner's attitude. There are, however, better choices for Italian food in San Antonio, considering taste, attitude and value.

Yummy! I came here with a group for work and we were not disappointed. We ordered plenty of appetizers along with our entrees and of course, it was WAY too much food. But so delish! I loved the meatballs, fried rice balls, and the margherita pizza (the best I have ever had). I had the butternut squash soup and misto salad for my main dinner. Both were very good. Service was excellent!

This is probably the best kept secret for the best Happy Hour in Texas. Patio is awesome, great private room for meetings. Look for me, I'll be the happy guy sitting at the bar.

We would to Luce at the suggestion of a friend and found the ambience to be very nice. The wine was good, but the food was just mediocre. I found it to be very greasy in fact you could see the grease setting on the Veal Marsala. My husband had the Oso Buco and it was not fit to eat. We shared Carparsico and did not think anyone could ruin this dish but it was just tasteless. We will not be returning nor would we recommend this restaurant except to stop by for a glass of wine on the Patio.

This place serves up great Italian food. Each dish is prepared fresh with fresh ingredients. Servers are awesome and very attentive. Pizzas are great; clams the best and ravioli, wow! Try one of their desserts...great stuff!! Beautifully decorated with some beautiful tasteful art. We will be back!!!

I booked the small room for 12 family guest for my grandsons high school graduation. The service was absolutely excellent. The dinner was outstanding. Everyone totally enjoyed themselves. The room gave us complete privacy. The restaurant was very clean. The service from the time we entered the restaurant until we left was amazing especially for busy Friday night.

Upon our first evening in San Antonio we selected Luce Ristorante e Enoteca though TripAdvisor as an upscale restaurant near where we were staying. We ate out on the patio. We had excellent service and a fine meal. We has some happy hour appetizers, nicely prepared. Some of the appetizers were not as large fas we might have expected for the price, but otherwise of great quality. We had cheesecake that was more in the Italian tradition with ricotta, and it was very good. We had a special half price wine that was exceptional (OK, so good we had two bottles.) The wine selection overall is really good. If looking for upscale Italian, we can recommend this restaurant. If we lived in San Antonio, we would return.

We arrived at 8:05 for our 8:00 reservation. There were an average amount of patrons. The hostess showed up after 3-4 minutes said she need to check on our table and dissapered for 10 mins in the mean time 4waiters came by to ask us if we'd been helped. Finally the hostess came and said they were setting our table. After being seated in a lovely room with about maybe 8 tables in it (two of which had not been bussed and were still sitting dirty when we left) we ordered. The waiter was very personable. Calamari was horrible. Dry and freezer burned (we ask a waiter about it and he told us that it is squid and should be chewy!). My husbands steak was ordered medium and came as rare a Rare can get without being raw! I had veal piccata, it was nice. Overall...go somewhere else!

Often times, a dining experience is so wonderful that it compels me to take the time to share the experience. On one, hand, my wife and I appreciate learning from others while on the other, it is important to recognize those that are responsible for creating an extraordinary memory. Usually, the experience relates to a recent trip but in the case of Luce's, a tip of the hat to Joe Buonicontri and and his team is long overdue! We have been coming to Luce's since Joe opened the restaurant and still find it to be one of our hometown favorites. Whether for business entertainment or personal pleasure, Joe and his staff have never disappointed. Luce's menu is outstanding and wine pairings make the evening special. Take the time to discuss what wines work best for all the meals. The Wait Staff is very knowledgeable and will actually bring Joe over to discuss options based on his wide array of choices in the cellar. Joe is experienced and can make suggestions that best fit your dining pleasure. The ambiance of the restaurant is eclectic casual while the surroundings make you feel as if you are in an inviting, popular restaurant back east or in Rome or Florence. The people are friendly and will accommodate your schedule and needs. Joe wants this to be a gathering of friends and he certainly has hit the mark. Although all of the above has maintained its consistency in the past several years, the compelling reason to write was the recent Wine Tasting event featuring Lungarotti Wines of Umbria, Italy. Served family style, the food for the evening was fit for royalty while Francesco Lungarotti educated a room of over 40 people on the unique wines produced from his family's vineyards. Joe and his team created an atmosphere that almost had us believing that we were in Italy for the evening. What a fantastic event. We met new friends and thoroughly had a unique dining experience. Joe, its about time that I write this review and thank you and the entire team for all that you do to make our Luce's dining memorable. Keep up the great work! Bruce and Cindy Vaio

Have heard several people tell about Luce's Happy Hour so we have been trying it. Nice drink and food specials. It begins at 4:00 pm and the best thing is that it's Monday -Saturday. Happy Hours on Saturdays are almost unheard of in this city. Their Lemondrop martinis are good. Had a couple of French 75's and they were very good. Watch out...they are as powerful as the canon! Wish they had a few more beer choices. A big bummer for me and hubs is that they don't carry ANY draft beers. But I realize this is an "enoteca". We had a Marghareta pizza, which was very good. It took a good amount of time for it to arrive but worth it. The seafood salad was plentiful. Some of the items like the calamari were quite chewey but didn't bother me. The fried calamari and zuchinni appitizer was tasty and crispy. We noticed the waitresses frequently served a plate of giant meatballs to various patrons, which is on the happy menu. It looks like a popular item. Will order this next time. We have been here 3 times and always arrive at 4:00 pm, which is a good time. Few people there. The bar area where the happy hour is served is sort of a small area with a few tables and a smallish bar. We have sat at table but it can become crowded after a while. Next time we will try the end of the bar. Waitresses are very nice but service can be a bit on the slow side. But not enough to complain about it. The drinks and each other's company kept us occupied. Overall, this is a nice place with good prices and good food. Drinks are made well. Not a "young crowd" place, which suits me fine. They can go to Flying Saucer down the walk. I'll bring my friends here to Luce for a good time.

The food at Luce was outstanding! Appetizers, salad, entree, wine all wonderful. Unfortunately the service was not so good. I had to ask for another glass of wine after the server was at the next table asking if they wanted more drinks. My husband sat with an empty tea glass while the server passed by our table at last three times. When we asked for the check because it wasn't offered, the server passed by our able twice before bringing it. My husband had his card out and immediately gave to server when he brought the check. However, it was left on the table while he cleared the table first. if a customer mst ask for a check and then as payment ready, it s quite obvious the customer is ready to leave. I put myself through college waiting tables and my son is currently a server at an italian restaurant. We would never treat customers in this manner!

If you've had a few $5 martinis or Cosmos, or a few glasses of the $5/$7/$9 wines (price varies by quality), you might not notice that they put a bag of nasty, rotting mixed greens on your salad plate. Actually, on your TWO salad plates. My husband and I came for happy hour and decided to make a dinner of it by ordering 2 salads plus a variety of appetizers. The salads came out first, and we both knew by the first bite that the greens had gone bad. They were totally limp and the spinach pieces were black and clinging to the other greens. We sent them back and our waiter was very apologetic. He came back with two salads with fresh greens. Other than the bagged spring mix, however, there wasn't much on the plate: A drizzle of balsamic reduction, a couple of tiny mozzarella balls and a thin bit of prosciutto, plus some chunks of cucumber and celery, in small dice. (You also get complimentary bread with various types of butter - garlic, pesto, etc.) For dinner, I ordered clams in white wine/garlic sauce. They were plentiful, and the broth was tasty, with small bits of tomato. Some might have found it a bit salty, but I thought it had more of a briny taste, like seawater. The fried artichokes were good, as was the salami and cheese plate. In general, portions were generous for the price. The atmosphere is upscale without being fussy - lots of leather and wood, with a nice area for dining outdoors that's a bit secluded. And yet --- I can't get over the fact that the kitchen tried to pass off two plates of nasty greens, that they HAD to know were bad. This wasn't just a case of a few pieces of rotting spinach hiding under the other leaves; the entire pile of greens was limp and obviously going bad. If they do that with something that I found totally obvious, what are they doing with ingredients that might be harder to spot?

Very nice selection of bar food and very good happy hour pricing for after work relaxation. The standard dinner menu is very good as well.

I'm a regular to Luce, and if you are looking for a "classy" happy hour that you can take business professionals to, Luce is your place. But don't get too full, because you are going to want to stay for dinner. The food is authentic Italian, made from the recipes of Luce's authentic Italian owner (and I'm guessing one or two from "mamma"). Luce has a huge selection of wine, as well, hence the "Enoteca" or "wine library." On cool evenings ask to be seated on the patio, a truly enchanting experience, whether you are dining for business or romance.

inutes agoNEW Made reservations on May 8th for Mother’s Day. Got there a few minutes before our time to find out they were close! My mother was in from out of state and it was very hard to find another location. This place is a joke! No respect for their customers.

If you are on a vacation in San Antonio, and want a change from Mexican food, Give this a try. Very good Italian. This was recommended by the lady at our front desk in our hotel, and she was spot on! We shared a Caesar salad, then a spaghetti carbonara. I can't remember what my husband had. All were good. The wine list is very extensive.

Returned to this restaurant after a few years of going elsewhere for our group Valentine's dinner. Sorry to say, the reason we left is still the same. Ordinary food at best. I had their sausage and chicken house special. Sausage was good but chicken overdone and dry. Wife had mussels and pasta. Bland sauce and had to search for the tiny mussels. She said it was like they opened a can of mussels....OUCH. At over $100 ticket for 2, we expect very good food...not forgettable....sorry...PASS.

Love the menu, great apps and a fabulous wine list. The Arancini di Riso are so good! Consistently delicious meals and desserts. Great service.

My husband and I had dinner here for the first time last evening. We had been unaware of this restaurant until we spotted it in the same strip mall as Brindle's Ice Cream, (Heubner Oaks), this summer. All I can say is that we feel as though we have discovered a hidden jewel! To start with, we were greeted very warmly when we arrived and were treated as welcome guests - everyone was very friendly. We were seated soon after we arrived and it didn't take long to realize that this place is utterly romantic - great decor, lots of wine bottles lining the walls, candles - very nice atmosphere. There is also an outdoor area with a fireplace that would be ideal on a cool evening. We happened to be there on a Friday evening, (we were told that every Friday evening a singer performs), so we were happily treated to some beautiful Frank Sinatra-type romantic ballads as we dined! I have to add that we were seated right next to the area where the singer was set up and we were initially concerned that it might be a little too loud , but it wasn't too loud in the least - and the performer was very polite and told us to let him know if the volume ever became too much. Sipping wine, listening to beautiful love songs - it was just wonderful! It should be noted that the service here is tremendously professional, discreet and reminded us of the type of service you would encounter in Europe. Salads are not rushed to your table while you are still have an appetizer in front of you, for example - everything is timed perfectly. Now, the most important part - the food! We loved everything we had from a polenta appetizer that we shared, (really fabulous!), to the salads to our main courses, (shrimp for me, lamb chops for my husband). Everything was excellent, and my husband raved about the top-notch lamb chops, (he has often been disappointed in the quality of lamb served in other restaurants). Desserts were also excellent. So many restaurants these days are just plain too loud with overbearing music, televisions on the wall, rushed service - not conducive to conversation and certainly not romantic., regardless of how good the food might be. This is one of the very few places, (actually, it may be the only place), we have found in San Antonio where you can enjoy a wonderful dinner in a romantic, relaxed, non-noisy setting. We loved this restaurant and will definitely return.

We had the joy of going to Luce's because we wanted to have a greaat meal that was off the beaten path. Luce's was just that. It is located in a shopping center in the corner. Parking can be tough but only if you are trying to park close to the restaurant. We went during their Happy Hour as well. When we arrived, it was a bit confusing where to go. One of the waiters saw us and greeted us but the hostess took over and she wasn't as personable. There were about 4 people standing around the podium to the side and not one spoke not even the hostess. We just kind of knew to follow her to our seats because she had the menus. LOL!! It wasn't crowded in the area she seated us in. The bar area was crowded because of Happy Hour. Our waitress came and asked to take our drink orders. She never said her name at all. I asked for the Happy Hour menu because she didn't even mention it. Enough of the negative which is the customer service....let's get to the good stuff - the food. We had for our appetizers - the Olivos (5 different kinds some sweet - some salty), Arancinidi di Risa (rice balls with a delicious marinara but the sauce is so much more than your basic marinara - my description does not do this appetizer any justice), Pollo e Kale Ravioli (even if you are not a fan of kale - this is worth the try). I asked our waitress if she had tried any of these and she had not nor could she firsthand recommend any of the choices. That is not good. I would hope that every member of the serving staff would be able to taste the dishes so they can suggest and at least let guests know what it tastes like even if it is not a personal favorite. For our entrees, we had Polpettone di Carne con Ricotta and Salmone ai Capperi. Both were divine!! The salmon was perfectly cooked with kale and warm in house made hummus. I have not ever had warm hummus but I would come back to Luce's just for that alone. The Salmone is a layered dish that looks too beautiful to even eat. It is topped with a lemon caper sauce that is not too heavy or too light. It was just right. Overall I gave 5 stars because the food outweighs the customer service all day. I believe this is a farm to table type of restaurant. And the customer service wasn't horrible - it was just average. Unequally yoked customer service for the chefs and quality food carefully prepared at this restaurant. Truly a hidden gem....I look forward to tasting new things the next time we go but that Salmone and Arancinidi di Risa are a personal favorite for now. I hope you enjoy it too.

Luce can be found in a corner of a strip mall... but what a corner! They have a lovely shaded patio with a fireplace and a beautiful “library of wine” restaurant. Luce has an extensive wine list and the wait staff is well versed on the selections they offer. The happy hour here is fantastic... get the meatballs. If you are looking for a romantic dinner or an impressive lunch spot this is the place. Dinner starts with warm bread and the homemade “Italian flag” of seasoned butters. Don’t be nervous about ordering a salad and dinner... they will happily split a salad for you to share. The Caesar salad is delicious! My husband usually gets some type of pesto dish. This time he got pesto pasta with shrimp and loved it. I usually get a seafood special here. This night it was halibut with shrimp risotto... incredible! We did not have dessert this night but have in the past. The tiramisu is always great!

Good pasta dishes and great value. Appetizers were good and they have a nice variety on their menu. The meal is worth the money.

I have been to Luce many times since it opened 10 or 12 years ago. It has really been good in the past. I am generally a not a picky eater, but... For family reasons I hadn't been there for about two years. The meal I had this time was barely edible. I ordered the osso buco, which had been one of my late wife's favorites. For starters, the meat was not on the bone, and the bone wasn't served...although they gave me a little fork to dig the marrow out of the non-existent bone. The red sauce that drenched everything was blah. Once stripped of the sauce, the meat was pretty good. The pasta over which the whole mess was served was risotto with some sort of yellow (with a greenish tinge) sauce. I ate one forkful, couldn't stand it, and left the rest Oh, yeah: the Caesar salad wasn't a Caesar salad. It was romaine, some croutons and little else. It was under-dressed, which is ok, because the dressing seemed to be thinned out mayonnaise. I couldn't taste any mustard, anchovies or much of anything else. Dessert, crème brûlée was very good.

Excellent food, drinks, and service. They let us use the wine room which was perfect for our group size. The service was the best and the owner was very friendly. Thanks

This is The Best Italian Restaurant in San Antonio, if not The Very Best Restaurant in Town. If you are looking for a "Dining Event" this is the place. As a Native New Yorker I know what an Italian experience should be. At Luce they hit every note to perfection. In the corner of a parking lot shared with The Flying Saucer, we found a subtly elegant atmosphere with sultry lighting, wonderfully artful decor, and clean and strong design lines all around. Imagine Mrs. Maisel meeting Frank Sinatra for dinner in Palm Springs circa 1961. The Staff's quiet yet cheerful "Can Do" attitude was warm and welcoming. Susan was there to greet us and Lauren to serve us. We started with "Calamari e Zucchine Fritti Calamari e Zucchine Fritti", which was lightly fried in a spicy marinara and citrus aioli. It was The Best Calamari we've ever had. We paired it with Salsiccia e Pepe which was out of this world. Incredibly savory pin wheel sausage with bell peppers and onions. We could have finished there. We had much more. I found Luce because I've searched for good Osso Buco for years, knowing it as the ultimate Italian dish since I was a kid. My son and I ordered it. My wife chose the Braciola alla Napoletana. Our dinner arrived and we simply gasped. I've never seen such Generous Portions! I've also never had better Osso Buco. This was no pork substitute, this was Real Veal; savory, sublime, sliding right of the bone. My wife's order, a wonderfully soft beef tenderloin with all the fixings, was equally delicious. We shared a perfectly matched Bosco del Merlo Cab and topped it off with amazing Tiramisu. Lauren was extremely attentive, yet never intrusive. Her Service was 5-Star all the way. The charming and gregarious owner and Chef, Joe Buonincontri, came by and introduced himself. Everything suddenly made sense. He grew up nine miles from me in Long Island. Much of what we ordered were from his mother's recipes. Need I say more?

Luce is a perfect place to enjoy Happy Hour after work. The special drink pricing and the happy hour menu is fantastic and you can definitely make a meal out of it. Everything I have tried is awesome.

Fine dining southern Italian food, wide ranging menu, expert preparation, friendly service, in a very attractive dining room. Outside patio makes a great place to dine when the weather is friendly. Owner/chef Joe Buonincontri is a gem who has consistently produced superb food since the restaurant opened. It's not a pizza restaurant, but the pizzas are top-notch, really good for happy hour. I've been going there for 20 years, have never had a bad meal or even a bad dish. "Enoteca" means it specializes in wines, and their wine list is quite extensive-something for all tastes. Also has a full bar, a great place for a happy hour. My go-to place for special holiday dinners, where chef Buonincontri flexes his culinary muscles to offer typical holiday fare in addition to the Italian menu.

On September 4, I attended a dinner presentation with six colleagues and our Medical Liaison Representative (MLR), making a total of seven guests. Upon arrival, our MLR provided a guest attendance sign-in sheet, which all six of us signed. We were asked to order from the restaurant week menu, which included a four-course selection and up to two glasses of wine. The presentation covered new medications, upcoming research studies, and focused on Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease. The presentation itself was excellent. Unfortunately, the dining service was disappointing: 1. Server Interaction Our waitress was curt and instructed us to point at our menu choices rather than verbally state them. She confused several wine orders and even placed a glass of sparkling wine at an empty seat. During the presentation, as she cleared plates, she repeatedly tapped attendees on the shoulder and asked them to hand over their dishes, which disrupted the session. 2. Meal Quality Three guests ordered the branzino fish, which was so overly salted it was inedible. Despite attempts to eat different portions of the fish, it could not be consumed. When the server asked if we wanted to take the dishes home, we declined, explaining that the food was too salty. A man, who appeared to be a manager (wearing a black cap and chef’s jacket), briefly approached, apologized, and left. No corrective action followed. 3. Billing Issues The final bill reflected charges for eight guests, despite there only being seven, confirmed by our signed attendance sheet. When questioned, our MLR was told no manager was on site, and no adjustment was made for the three uneaten dishes or the incorrect guest count. We all concluded that the server added an extra guest to ensure an automatic gratuity was applied. While the medical presentation was valuable, the dining experience was unsatisfactory due to the poor service, inedible food, and questionable billing practices.

For the last two weekends we have met friends for early dinners at this northside Italian restuarant that has been thriving for years. The happy hour offers special wines and cocktails at very reasonable rates, and the appetizers are enough to make a good economical entree. We love the sauted shrimp in limon garlic sauce and the eggpant along with a side of pasta. Last week we ate outside because the weather permitted, and it was lovely in an expansive patio. Last night we ate inside. Both experiences were nice. The bread was wonderful. We had two different servers, and both were exceptional. The only negative thing I could say is really not negative---it can be hard to find in a corner of a strip mall. We'll be going back frequently.

We visited Luce Ristorante for the first time and each ordered the Salmon and pasta. I substituted salad for pasta (on a diet) and all was very good. The waitstaff was great and we both enjoyed our meals. We were with great friends and they all enjoyed their various dinners. Highly recommend.

Worst service our group has had for years in San Antonio Seated in a small cubbyhole then given one server that was trying hard but obviously new . Table not prepped, Drink orders not taken for over 30 minutes. 2 lunches served and over 30 minutes later others were Served. The restaurant was practically empty but 3 other servers just stood around. Manager sat at back bar having a delightful conversation with his friend. Salmon was cold and over cooked. We will not be going back, guess management does not care. It is an approximate $500 loss. We agree no recommendations will be given to friends.

Best happy hour in town, period. But save room for dinner, you'll be amazed by not only the food, but their customer service!! We Love Luce!!

Not just an ordinary Italian restaurant. Great food options, wine selection and ambiance. Always our choice for some place special.

We discovered this delightful place through a Groupon. The best part of our finding Luce was seeing Joe the owner again. Twenty years ago Joe was the GM of one of our favorite SA restaurants, The Old San Fransisco Steakhouse. We found an old friend and a really great eatery. They have a list of wines all for $25 a bottle and I had the waiter ask Joe to pick his favorite. He selected the Ruffino Classico. This is a great wine. Joe also suggested the meat ball appetizer and this was so good it reminded me of my mom's. This is BTW, Joe's mother's recipe. My Wife thoroughly enjoyed her veal Piccata with roasted fresh asparagus, spinach, zucchini, and yellow squash. The veal came lightly battered with crushed garlic and capers in a lemon brown butter sauce. My Scarpariello was amazing. they use real Italian sausage imported from NYC. The real McCoy! The sauteed chicken breast is tender and juicy and it's all surrounded by red, green and gold bell peppers, onions, garlic, white wine sauce, and mushroom Risotto. As a welcome back gesture, we were offered dessert. The chocolate Lava Torte is decadent as is the Tiramisu. They have some interesting pizza selections and Happy Hour prices from 4 to 7 PM Monday to Friday. This is a great Italian restaurant run by an Italian/American from Brooklyn, NY who has lived in San Antonio for more than 20 years.

We have eaten at Luce many times; business lunches, romantic dinners for two, couples dinners for 4 or 8, even a we-are-late-for-the-movie dinner, and it always pleases. Our last t dirip was supposed to a relaxing dinner, but we were almost 30 minutes late (yes, we called to change the reservation) but had movie tickets already. We simply explained our predicament, and the waiter and staff did everything to get us to the show on time. We had great seafood (she the scallops and I the red snapper), great appetizers (caprese salad and special salad), just the right amount of excellent wine, and never felt rushed through our elegant meal. I don't know how it could have been better.

This would qualify as a good Italian restaurant even by NYC standards. The selection of food is quite lengthy coupled with an incredible wine list. Meatballs are made with three types of meat: beef, veal, pork - same ingredients my grandma used. Marinara sauce is wonderful without being overpowering. It is one of the only places in San Antonio to find gnocchi.

I have always gone to Luce for happy hour and decided to try lunch. The specials are amazing. I had the halibut piccata with risotto and it was excellent. Service is always great and if you can have wine at lunch the selections are endless.

Last time I ate here was in 2014 and the food was so tasty! This time around, the shrimp in the shrimp appetizer were microscopic in size. The pizzas were okay, but, definitely lacked in taste especially in the crust. Service was good. Just so sad to see this restaurant not live up to my memory of excellent quality.

Rude owner . Needs to take a course on how to treat customers. The only good thing about this place was the server.

My husband and I went here with a group and couldn't have been happier. It was a large group and the dinner was in the beautiful wine room. The service was extraordinary. Someone was always close by to fill our water and wine glasses. We both had the seabass over risotto and it was absolutely delicious. I would absolutely go back here the next time we're in San Antonio.

So glad to see this restaurant is still here and apparently thriving after so many years. We had a great dinner there recently. I liked: wine by the glass poured at the table, whole wheat pasta, olive antipasti. Did not care for: people in shorts in the indoor dining room. Our server seemed new and tenuous but he did well.

The food was delicious. The homemade pasta is incredible. Their kids menu was great which really helps when you are traveling with little ones. Our waitress was so nice.

Wonderful people work here from the hostess (scarf rescue) to the bartender and wait-staff. All we're accommodating, flexible, and very friendly. The appetizers at happy hour quickly make a delicious meal. We tried about 7-8 options and were surprised at how much food we received AND the quality. The couple of us that ordered entrees were very happy. Bruschetta plate was wonderful (great bread with 5 different toppings). Mussels were perfectly cooked and abundant in a tasty broth. Cucumber margarita was excellent. The location is deceptive in the corner of a strip mall. It is excellent and well worth the time and money. We will be back.

It was a nice atmosphere with with a nice wine selection. I would recommend it more for couples or friends, not children. I had lobster tortellini which was very good.

Entrees Polpettone di Carne con Ricotta and Braciola alla Buonincontri were delicious, Nikki the server was courteous and attentive, and best of all, lunch was quiet and we could carry on a conversation. What not to like about Luce?

I have to say Luce is an Excellent Ristorante We visit often... the quality of food is fantastic. It’s a romantic night out for celebrating birthdays or anniversaries. Inside or out in the patio the atmosphere is like dinning with friends and family. The servers are always efficient, polite and happy… We recommend to anyone looking for great/freshly made cuisine. The wine selection is amazing, ask Joe for his personal recommendations.

Tons of food, all good. Lots of full and small plate options on the menu, a great wine selection too. Parking can be a little tight as it is shared with other merchants and restaurants, but all around a great choice.

Because I had spent 5 years in Italy, I thought I'd take my Mom, 94 yrs, to Luce's, for "authentic" Italian food. We were both very disappointed. When asked if we wanted parmesan with our Rucola salad, our waiter, Adam, couldn't find the grater; so no parmesan with our salad. When our main course arrived, Gamberi Limone, we were very surprised that the shrimp was breaded and there was a cream sauce. The description on the menu did not mention floured shrimp or a cream sauce (I'm lactose intolerant). The breading was very thick and doughy, and after the first bite, I took off all the breading and pushed aside the sauce. We both thought that it was a chicken fried steak recipe used for shrimp. We told Adam and he brought over the menu and agreed that the description was wrong. He said he'd mention it to the manager (the next day I did see on the website that the description now reads "floured and sautéed" instead of just sautéed, but still no mention of the cream sauce). When our bill arrived, we were very surprised that it had not been adjusted for management error. On a positive note, the seasoning of the food was excellent.

Definitely a great place for happy hour! Food is delicious and reasonably priced and drink specials are an added bonus!

This is a beautiful place loved the atmosphere, BUT the drunk at the bar caused us to leave sooner than we would have as we couldn't enjoy our dessert let alone sit with a coffee etc., soup was cold and had to be reheated, our waitress was either brand new, didn't know English to well over stretched with tables, although we were 3 people to sit...the outdoor seating looked great even with the fire but to cold. I was quite disappointed as it has such high ratings, we will go back and just order off the menu, not the thanksgiving special...will NOT let them seat us in the bar area or anywhere close. Give one more chance.

Fantastic dining experience, pasta, chicken and salads are really good and the happy hour is great. Service was friendly and prompt, highly recommend by this foodie.

I had not been here in awhile and a friend suggested we meet here. Wow, lots of good happy hour food. There is a limited HH wine list but the Chardonnay I had was good. The bar area is tiny so go early to get a table.

While visiting in San Antonio last weekend. We had a great family dinner here with our daughter and her family including kids and other grandparents (12 of us in all). Although a busy Saturday evening, the ambience of the place made it feel as if we were dining alone. We sat together at a nice big table that allowed us all to talk and visit. Our waiter Chris was excellent and took great care of us! The food was quite good and we were all served together. It was nice to be able to get such a large crowd together for a great meal!

Always great food and service. Very accomodating of special requests. The owner makes sure everything is perfect. Awesome staff.

My wife and I had dinner at Luce last night. The food was wonderful and the service was great though they were very busy (good sign). My wife had the salmon (she said one of best she ever had) and I had the Sorrentina and the veal was very tender and flavorable. The pasta was hand made and the soups were very tasty. Though a little pricy the food was worth the expense. I am surprised that there were few reviews though I have been there before and did not comment.

Ask for Shanti! He is amazing! The restaurant has great food! The eggplant parm is amazing! For drinks the mojito does not disappoint. They also have a massive outdoor patio and if you ask nicely you can order a meatball for your pup.

Stylish fine dining at its best!! Everything is handmade, and filled with fresh ingredients! Dishes are wonderfully seasoned, masterfully cooked and plated with a touch of class. Have been here many times and am always happy with the food, drinks and atmosphere. It is truly worth a visit for some exciting and simply tasty treats!

What a gem! We can recommend this establishment highly, and we have eaten at five-star restaurants all over the US. Our experience at this restaurant was excellent from start to finish. The owner was welcoming and warm, as he was with all the other diners. Our server, Cynthia, was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was unique and quite beautiful, including the outdoor pergola area. What makes Luce stand out, in addition to the food (we had a margherita pizza, Caesar salad and butternut squash ravioli with sage butter sauce, with tiramisu and coffee for dessert) were the little details. For example, the coffee is served in a French press (it was dark, rich and delicious), the silverware was replaced quickly, and upon being seated we were provided with a basket of crusty bread and a small plate of marinaded chickpeas and carrots. The food was presented beautifully also. We can't understand the negative reviews--Luce is beyond reproach. Perhaps some competitors in the area are nervous that once diners try Luce, they will never want to eat anywhere else! Try it--you won't be disappointed

Happy hour on the patio is a lovely experience. The service was great and the staff helpful in making selections. The food was very good with many interesting choices, at very reasonable prices.

We so enjoyed dining on the patio! It felt like a little getaway. We thought we would be getting dinner entrees. However, when we saw all of the wonderful food options on the happy hour menu, we decided to sample several of those instead. We are still talking about how delicious the white pizza was! The pinwheel sausage with peppers, the meatballs in marinara and the shrimp in lemon butter were also excellent. Our server was so friendly and helpful. It was a wonderful evening. We will definitely go again soon!

Cute bar. Nice open dining room and patio. Our waitress was knowledgable, friendly and attentive. Ordered the special which was cod and risotto. The cod was good, but the marinara sauce it came with was bland and the risotto need to be cooked a little longer

I met friends for lunch in June. We had wanted to go for some time but had not made it. The restaurant is really quite nice, and the food was wonderful. We all had different plates, but we all agreed that each dish was well done. The wine was good, and the service was excellent. I had house made pasta with a bolognese, and it was cooked perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised at the prices. I look forward to another meal there.

My husband and I ate here last Friday night as part of Restaurant Week. I initially selected this location because I had a business meeting in the area and I recalled all of our prior visits being exceptional. This visit did not disappoint, although neither of our salads (Caprese and Caesar) were remarkable. That being said, the remainder of our experience was exceptional, both food and service, which somehow made the average salads stand out even more. We both ordered the Seafood Pasta, which was very good but spicy!! And the tiramisu is to die far. We will be returning soon, even tho we live on the other side of town, perhaps for Happy Hour, which had a full bar of patrons this night.

This was my first visit to Luce, based on a recommendation from a friend. It was a Saturday evening and there was no wait. The host was very friendly and our server, Michael, was very prompt. My companion and I shared a good bottle of pinot grigio. We both ordered from the appetizer menu and shared a plate of pasta. My friend had the mussels and I had the gamberi al limone, which was delicious. We enjoyed the ambience and the service, as well as the food. I will definitely be back and plan to recommend it to my friends.

We have never been to Luce for dinner, but decided to go to their Happy Hour when we had friends visiting. It is in a small shopping center and is a very nice restaurant - white table cloth. The bar is rather small, about 5 tables and maybe 6 seats at the bar, but you can also sit on the patio and they have heaters if the weather is cool. (It looked nice but the weather was pretty chilly that night). Quite a few items on the appetizer menu. We had the olives (5 small dishes, each with a different type of olive for $5!). I had pizza with wild mushrooms - very good and more than I could eat - we shared it. I think it was $7.50. My husband had the stromboli with Italian meats. It looks very "bready" but actually tasted light - and the meats were delicious. (Served with Marinara). Our friends had a shrimp appetizer (3 shrimp) and eggplant. Both were good. They have three white and three red wines for happy hour. They also have a wine special - $25 a bottle, but we didn't check those out. By the glass prices are $5, $6, and $8 - depending on if the wine is light or heavy. I had a $6 cabernet that was good! Our friends had the $8 Sauvignon Blanc that was very good. We went at 5 PM on a Tuesday and the bar was pretty full. We were lucky to get the last table for 4. It is a nice, relaxed atmosphere - not a loud happy hour sports bar. A nice change - especially with the good food! We will go again! Happy Hour is Mon-Sat, 4 - 7 PM. We have only gone for their great happy hour. Brunch didn’t disappoint! The food and service were both fantastic

Amazing experience. What truly made it pleasurable was the prefect combination of great food and a staff who were extremely friendly, smiled and treated our party of 7 like we were the only ones there. Fantayshia was such an exceptional person; recommend asking for her section. The Calamari was perfectly cooked and we have never seen Carpacio Cipriani sliced so thin. The Gnocchi, Lasagna and Ravioli hit the spot. What a great evening

Luce happy hour food was good. They have a nice happy hour selection for drinks and food. Paul, the waiter is great. We enjoyed sitting outside. The big issue is the owner...what a jerk. We ordered a happy hour margarita pizza, ate a slice and asked to box it up. He said no...must eat at restaurant or pay full price. When to owner came out, he was very confrontational. My wife and I felt threatened by his New York anger. He did not care what we had to say. This was after we enjoyed several cocktails and 2 other happy hours meals. Bottom line, A very angry and unhappy man. We will not be back. There are too many other options in north San Antonio.

The location is easy to get to after work and the food was great. The staff was very attentive and the restaurant was very nice inside. Everything we had was delicious, this was for a business dinner.

We gathered here with 2 other couples for a Saturday evening, even tho a first for us, the other 2 couples had dined here previously. Great low-noise setting. Leslie was our waiter and he was EXCELLENT! Very attentive and extremely courtesy. I ordered the Norwegian Halibut served over risotto with green beans. It was fabulous! Hubby was NOT happy with his lasagna; said he has eaten much better. We all shared the meatball appetizer and they were excellent. Great menu, so we'll be back, especially to dine on the patio!

The menu selection, customer service, ambiance and the food were all outstanding. I felt a bit slumped in the chair (cushion was weird), but other than that - the entire dining experience was excellent. There is a large outside area which will be amazing now that the temperatures are dropping in the San Antonio area. Do not hesitate to dine at this genuine Italian restaurant.

Often visit this place for special occasions. Food is wonderful and very much like what you would find in Italy. Entrees run $20+, so it is on the pricey side but worth the splurge.

We went for a business lunch with colleagues. Food was great, service was prompt and quick. These server patiently explained choices and even gave us her suggestions.

I have only been here once, and it was with a group of 9 family members. They did good with the large group. The free bread not good. For appetizer the calamari was good and flavorful, not too chewy. The pizza bianco is delicious. The risotto was meh. The margarita was forgettable. The kids alfredo was average. The garlic spinich was great. Overall, I might go again, but not expect too much.

Superb dinner of Oso Buco, (veal shank), and fragolia pasta! The complimentary warm bread, roasted garbanzos, asparagus and garlic vegetables were a great start. After that we enjoyed the caprese salad prior to the entre. There is a great selection of Italian wines. We chose the Borgo Scopeto Chianti Classico and it was perfect. After dinner, we could not resist the cannoli! My husband had an espresso with black Sambucco while I enjoyed a decaf cappuccino. The restaurant is lovely with a decor similar to a library with wine bottles arranged as books on shelves. Intriguing and very interesting. We will definitely go back if in the area again.

Sublime food, superb waitstaff, fair price. Best redfish I've ever had. Waiters eagerly attended to my companions' requests for items not on the menu, and other requests. Can't think how the evening could have been better.

Joe was very helpful in pulling this dinner together from my location in Atlanta. picked a price and a menu, and Joe did the rest. I did not have to stress over one detail. He put our party in the gorgeous wine room. the service was impeccable and the food was delicious. made this into a no brainer event for me and I was very grateful. but our event aside, the food was fantastic and if I lived in San Antonio, I would be back here in a heart best.

It was a recommended “Italian” restaurant. Nice interior ambience, but that’s it. For a rather upmarket establishment, the menu was cumbersome instead of a short lest if chef specialties. Everyone expressed satiety from hunger from a long business day, but none expressed excellence. My friend’s salmon dish looked dry and over cooked. The salads looked nothing Italian. The insalata di mare tasted like thawed previously frozen shrimp and squid rings with greens doused in vinegar. My lamb was cooked perfect medium rare, but then there’s a creamy sauce that looked/tasted like thickened starch without any taste. This was certainly not Italian. For an establishment that calls itself an Enoteca, the wine selection was very limited and adulterated with overpriced CA or South American wines. The white wine list was particularly limited without the great Italian Whites like Gavi, which would have been a great choice to start an Italian dinner. Worst, the waiter was sounded confused: he took our orders, then came back two minutes later asking what two of group ordered.

Super service in a very nice setting. The Arincni appetizer is a must have. Fish dishes are fantastic. Prices are very reasonable.

Ordered steak medium! When I cut into it the blood gushed out! It was awful! One ordered shrimp that tasted like you were sucking lemons! One ordered chicken.....was not good One ordered fish....it was just okay!

I have to say every time I've been to Luce I've had a delightful dining experience. Tonight I had the Shrimp with a lemon sauce and it was delicious. Also you will be missing out if you don't get the mussels as an appetizer. Blunt as good as any I've had in Nova Scotia. All in all its a great experience with a great atmosphere, accommodating staff and a menu that leaves your mouth watering. Bravo!!!

Went there for the first time in Saturday. Nothing great. Too bad. I got the butternut squash ravioli with a sage butter sauce. Costco has better ravioli, they forgot to put sage in the butter, and the cubes of butternut squash scattered over the dish were almost raw. I ended up sending it back and did not get another dish. My husband's pasta was mushy and the sauce was bland. No salt and pepper on the table. (That always irks me.) Wine was good, but $14+ for a "quartino" seemed pretty high. Nice atmosphere on the patio. Attentive waiter. For the prices they charge we were hoping for better. We won't be back.

I went there with a friend. Using a gift card i had recently received. It's easy to make a reservation. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and immediately seated. The server was helpful in explaining the various appetizers, entrees and wines. The foox wasc excellent-- i chose an item I'd never heard of: Valdostana. the recommended wine paired perfectly with the meal. I look to returning, either for lunch or dinner.

This is an upscale restaurant tucked into a corner of a shopping center. It has outdoor seating as well as a nicely decorated interior. Enoteca means wine library and the decor is book cases full of wine bottles. The actual winery is a separate room. The food s what some of my old hippie friends call 'chi chi frou frou'. In fact it is a fine dining experience. My lamb chops were perfectly cooked, served with style, and completed by the waiter's choice of a red wine. It is expensive and a little hard to find as it does not front on the street. But, If want a nice meal with attentive service, Luce is a good choice. It is also open for lunch but I have never had the opportunity to try lunch there.

A group of women and I decided to sample this location and were pleasantly surprised by the ambience and care taken by the staff and making tasteful dishes that represent Italy’s finest. Aside from one woman in the group that made it a difficult visit for the staff, we were all very satisfied and were even granted a bottle of wine for the three birthday women in the group thanks to the Joe. Thank you for this gem of a pallet here in San Antonio.

If you are looking for some good tasting pizza in a nice atmosphere for an excellent price, then you must go to Luce's during their happy hour, Monday - Saturday for 4:00-6:30 pm. The appetizer and pizza menu for the half priced happy hour offers a variety of selections, and we found the pizza had excellent flavor, crispy light dough, fresh ingredients and a great bargain. There were enough choices to keep coming back to sample the other items. They also have a nice outdoor seating area and wether inside or out, the restaurant had a relaxed and quiet atmosphere that made talking easy. We will be back!

I really wanted to like this restaurant. We took our family for Thanksgiving and received ok service with substandard food. The salad was not bad, but it went downhill from there. The main turkey dinner was not tasty, the turkey was dry, the sweet potatoes flat, and mine was served in a hurry with most of my food on one half of the plate - because the plate came "tipped". The dessert, pumpkin pie, was not bad, but honest to goodness, most pieces were and inch wide. They have a decent wine list, and maybe their regular menu is better, but I emphatically do not recommend them for a Thanksgiving get-together.

The atmosphere is nice and the staff very friendly. Located a few miles from the riverwalk but it is a nice neighborhood restaurant

Great food is always the case at Luce. More expensive than some of the other Italian restaurants in town. But the quality and portion size makes up for that. They serve a nice bread that appears to be a soda bread and not yeast. Served with 3 flavored butters. I had the Misto salad which includes mixed greens, goat cheese and prosciutto. My entree was the grilled salmon with Garbanzo Bean Puree,Braised Greens, and Lemon Caper Sauce. Very large portion of salmon, a of braised kale I believe on top of a good portion of garbanzo been puree (think hummus, but a little chunkier). It was too much to finish. I wish I had room for dessert.

Nice ambiance. However, not Celiac friendly. The fact that they offer a gluten free pasta was encouraging, but the kitchen accidentally substituted whole wheat pasta for it. The waiter didn't catch the error until I asked him to double check. When they finally brought a replacement, the kitchen had accidentally mixed regular spaghetti in with the gluten free penne. I left without having lunch, after an hour and a half. Very disappointing. Also, I was hosting a business lunch, but the waiter clearly thought it was a girls' lunch out, and assumed we would need separate checks. He also seemed surprised when somebody had to leave after 90 minutes of waiting for her food, because she had another meeting.

for this restaurant to be so highly rated in San Antonio, something is wrong!! most likely it is the mediocre taste of the reviewers, or the general populace of this city.. the best part if our dinner was the wine!! though relatively overpriced, it was good.. went downhill from there, the bread was sub par.. the salad were disappointing at best.. main meals were so bad, we were wondering if we just made bad choices, but 4 out 4 ?? chances are it is just a bad restaurant in a very bad city for foodies, if Luce tried to serve this food in Brooklyn, the owner would be shot.. literally

I love it when a restaurant features dishes I haven't seen or a menu for many years. Braciola is a dish my mother made when I was a child and Luce did a great job.

This is our Valentine's date stop. It's amazing! Look forward to going again soon! Great specials, appetizers and drinks!

Relatively quiet atmosphere. Even though we were there on a very busy night, we could still carry on a conversation without shouting. The lighting is subdued, without being too dim, which adds to the feeling of intimacy. The staff was attentive, without being intrusive. The food was excellent and prepared just right. For starters I had the Pasta Fagioli (tomato broth, cannellini beans, parmigiano-reggiano and pasta) and my companion had the Caprese (tomato slices and mozzarella di latte, basil and olive oil). Both were very good. For the entree, we both had the grilled filet mignon. It was cooked to order perfectly, had great texture and was very flavorful. For dessert, we had the crème brulee, which was also good. All in all, we had an excellent dinning experience at Luce Ristorante e Enoteca

Relaxing Great service We didn’t participate in happy hour but you bet I will next time In door and outdoor dining We had butternut ravioli and margarita pizza and tiramisu So good. Their bread and herbed fused butter were to die for. It was wonderful

Ordered pan seared halibut with risotto. Never tasted halibut so overcooked and leathery, and risotto not done right- well, if you like heavily creamed gruel, try it. Italian bread should be airy and light, French one crusty on the outside, and soft in the inside, sourdough…. I don't know what dry tack rehydrated should taste like, but the bread may come close.

The ambiance is great, the staff are welcoming, the food is tasty. Douglas, my waiter, was professional, knowledgeable about the menu, and attentive without being overbearing. Alice the manager is gracious and made certain that everything was as it should be. This restaurant is a Find. You owe it to yourself to dine here.

Seems that the kitchen is not prepared to handle multiple orders. Out of the 9 plates that we had on the table three, two seafood and one meat were not properly cook or tasted like cardboard. Sad since it seems like a nice place with a great list of wines. Even thought the manager came to our table and apologized and tried to off set our disgust it's sad to travel almost 30 minutes to get this crappy food..,

I met a group of friends here recently for happy hour and appetizers and dessert. We each had several (2-3) appetizers per person + a dessert. Combining several appetizers made for a nice dinner, without being overly filling. I had the Insalata di Mare, a cold salad with Shrimp, Calamari, and Diver Scallops. It was served with a small amount of mixed green lettuce on side. In general, a good dish, with my only wish for less calamari and more scallops. Next, I had the eggplant parmesan (3 thin slices) which I really enjoyed. It was fresh, and the marinara sauce was very good. Then I had the meatballs with marinara, also very good, but next time, I would try the sausage with peppers. Highlight of desserts seemed to be lemon sorbet among those in my group who ordered desserts. Service was quite good and our waitress (Anka, I believe) kept everything straight with the separate checks.

We ate at Luce tonight for our first time and we loved every course! Restaurant week was the attraction and we are so happy we tried something new😄 For appetizers, I had the Caprese salad which was so fresh and tasty! My husband had the mussels and he was so impressed with the taste and huge portion! For our entrees, I had the lobster ravioli and my husband had the Ossobuco-both were fantastic! Desserts-lava cake and creme brûlée-did not disappoint👏Our waiter, Gilbert, was the best-super friendly, attentive and gave great recommendations! We can’t wait to return🤞

This is just the Happy Hour Review. Do not order the $4 house red wine. It's like a grape that hasn't quite matured. Sad to say, but the only other option for "Happy Hour" was an $8 glass of wine from the regular menu. They should have at least 3 different options for red and white wine during Happy Hour for $4 a glass. We tried the Capricciosa pizza which was quite tasty. The only thing is that while we were the 2nd group (party of 2) to arrive, we were the last to get served. People kept coming in and getting served before we did. Hmmmmm. We were about to ask for bread while waiting for the pizza. Pizza - quite tasty. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Gorgeous patio. Staff was nice and gave good service. We will go back and try dinner.

We so enjoyed our dinner at Luce restaurant. Food was outstanding. We had no leftovers except for pizza. Truly great Italian fare. They even put us in a special room. Thank you.
Great Italian in Newer San Antonio
Visited this restaurant with another couple and we were not disappointed. You can sit indoors or go for the covered outdoors area both are nicely arranged. The osso bucco, handmade pastas, lasagna, and fish were all excellent. The kitchen does put out some very authentic Italian dishes with the traditional spices. As new residents from Houston, it's good to know that San Antonio does have great Italian as well. Molto bene Joe!
