Be sure to get a reservation

By Susan N |

Be sure to get a reservation if possible. Limited seating and good food. We tried several of the Happy Hour items and enjoyed them all. One of the “cool tastings” Toro w Fig is fabulous. I highly recommend it!! The short-rib with pear was also wonderful. (Maki rolls were good but not great.)

Sustainable Sushi!

By misopiso88 |

If every sushi restaurant on planet earth was like Lucky Robot, we would be much better global citizens. Educating sushi eaters while offering delicious, sustainable food is a win-win-win. Love this place!

Awesome Atmosphere!

By Asatkins |

We loved this place! The decor was very Austin and the servers were top notch. They were friendly and accommodating and helpful with their menu! The swings at the table made it even more fun!

Super well deserving 5 stars

By Divebabydive |

Small quant well decorated restaurant. Awesome location. Inside is much better than outside due to summer sun hitting restaurant. We had 2 appetizers and 2 main courses. Everything was awesome. I had the tacu yaki as main course. Super yummy. Wife had lomo itame which featured Wagyu beef. That was equally awesome. Service was also without issues. We will return.

Fresh produce, great sushi, quality service!

By OlichkaWhite |

I was over that place last week and loved the atmosphere, it is located on a great street with a lot of small business restraints and shops. I loved the service, our waitress Tinette went above and beyond to make our dinner wonderful. We ordered her suggested Crunchy Salmon Roll and now it is my favorite roll. Thank you! They also have this super cool swinging benches inside. One little fact to mention, when they are busy they run out of some soy bottles and little dishes, well the service was outstanding so it made no difference to us! The prices are dissent. I would recommend this place if you want to have a great time with your friends or your loved ones.

Yummy

By wrenbarlow |

This place didn’t look promising from the outside, but it was bright and clean and fun inside. Nice waitstaff. I found the food to be delicious. Very unique. I had the smoked salmon with plantain chip appetizer. I loved every bite. The food seemed to take a little long to arrive, but was worth the wait!

We were the lucky ones!

By dani3264 |

Found this on trip advisor stopped in because it was close by and ratings looked good. Food was excellent! Some of the freshest sushi I’ve ever had and the udon noodles were huge! Vegetarian son was easily satisfied and the portions were generous. Price tag not cheap but worth it.

Great atmosphere, fresh sushi and a really good experience

By Mali_Urke |

After a weekend of bachelor party debauchery, it was refreshing to find this place and the food and service was absolutely amazing. A little pricey, but worth it. Enjoyed it immensely and one of the best sushi experiences I have ever had.

Fresh, Delicious and Cute

By nitpicky-traveler1 |

We had been walking around for half an hour one evening trying to find something to eat in the South Congress part of Austin. Since it was a Friday night, most places were packed and the wait list was over an hour. Finally we reached Lucky Robot and the menu looked pretty good. Went inside and asked for a table for 6. The restaurant was pretty full. Mezmeh (sp?) the hostess was very honest and told us that we could be waiting for 5 minutes or 20 depending on people wanting to leave the nicely cool restaurant and face the muggy heat outside. I appreciated her honesty and decided to wait. After about 15 minutes they were able to put two tables together and we were seated. The waitresses are dressed in Japanese schoolgirl outfits which is kind of cute. there are bench swing seats hanging from the ceiling and can look out the window. I liked the mural on the wall as you enter. Now for the food... I can tell you that it was delicious. I chose the Make Your Own Bowl with tofu, Thai coconut curry sauce and brown rice. Absolutely tasty. The rest of my group ordered salmon, Eel Maki Roll, steamed pork bun, edamame and mushroom/spinach dumpling for appetizers and they were all very happy. Every meal was perfect temperature and actually had a lot of flavor. The prices were reasonable for dinner in Austin.

Great Place

By Rob B |

The food was fabulous. The atmosphere also spot on. The portion sizes did not match the price. There were two of us. We ordered two appetizers and two sushi entrees for $65 and left hungry. The uniqueness of the restaurant, great atmosphere, awesome food, and wonderful staff carried the day (I would go back) but the portion sizes should be addressed or the prices lowered.

As fresh as fresh can be!!

By Mitch M |

Went in for a late dinner on Sunday night after the restaurant was recommended by the hotel. Nate was in command of our sushi ship and we enjoyed an omikase prepared by a group of friendly, talented sushi chefs. The kanapachi we started with as scrumptious along with the pork belly, uni and freshly smoked salmon. What a surprise and one I can not wait come back for. Nate, YOU ROCK!!

Cute stop, good food

By Maalawaala |

The food was really good, the environment was fun, and the staff was really friendly and accommodating. Make sure you get a porch swing at your table!

Fun time with good food

By jn0987 |

We were lucky in getting a table at the last minute. Fun seating arrangement, with two of us on a swing seat. Good Japanese theme food. Not great, but comfortably tasty and familiar. While table was mixed on review, I liked it and would return for the combination of atmosphere and solid food choices. I noted children among the patrons. All seemed to be having fun with the occasion.

The best brussel sprouts ever!

By JacquelineRN |

I love this place. They have sushi, Asian stir-fry and one of the best brussel sprouts appetizer in the city.

Cute Restaurant and Great Food!

By Amy D |

Great little restaurant in the heart of downtown! Wonderful food. The menu has a large selection of sushi and other things. The calamari is awesome. We ordered a variety of foods and just shared them all. The tofu dumplings were great! I had their fried brussel sprouts and a chicken taco - all were outstanding. The wait staff is super friendly and really made this a very fun dining experience!

Another one of my favorites in Austin!

By Deb S |

Really good food, I love the bowls and get mine with udon noodles instead of rice, Yumm! Cute, quirky atmosphere and just a fun, casual meal.

Cool Swing Chair, Mediocre Food

By Jeanie |

Okay first things first - the swing chair here is AWESOME and the service was great! The food? Didn’t really impress me and I didn’t like half of what I ate. Pork belly is pretty heavy, so I recommend not ordering it if you don’t love fatty foods. Sushi was okay? It wasn’t great to be honest but it was edible. My general feeling about this place is that I didn’t have a horrible experience but I would not go back.

Good fast Japanese, in a meat-centric town.

By marvlatitall |

Fast and convienent Japanese that was a nice change. Mostly have lunch here (the bento boxes are great), but would do for a quick dinner. Nice change when you have had your fill of Texas meats!

Lucky find!

By M C |

We were in town for the music (New Year's Eve with Vintage Trouble and Willie Nelson) and were meeting friends at The Continental Club on Dec. 30th. Everyone else had eaten but us and we went next door to the Lucky Robot. The kitchen was closing in ten minutes and the menu was spectacular. (It was hard to choose). All of the staff were so nice and told us to take our time. We sat at the Sushi Bar. They closed/locked the doors and let us remain until our wonderful meal was finished. All the while we were treated like family. And the food!! Everything was fresh and house made. I consider myself a foodie and if I ever get back to Austin the Lucky Robot will be first on the list!

Everything was Great

By LoveGoodFood2323 |

We just moved to this neighborhood and one of our first stops was Lucky Robot. We loved everything; the food, the sake, the service, the atmosphere. Will definitely come back a lot!

Outstanding, Reasonably Priced Food

By BLocke03 |

I cannot say enough about the quality of the food and service at Lucky Robot! There were so many unique items on the menu I couldn't resist ordering an appetizer, noodle bowl, and a piece of sushi. Both the spinach/tofu dumplings and brussels sprouts were flavorful ways to begin the meal. I love the Build Your Own Noodle bowl option and the server was able to name the perfect sauce (ginger-lime) to compliment the options I selected for my bowl. I only ordered one piece of sushi, but on my return I will certainly order a full roll. The location and atmosphere is also worth mentioning. The South Congress location is outside the hustle and bustle of the city center and it is surrounded by eclectic shops. The swing seats and bright decor will bring a smile to the faces of all guests.

Short visit

By sammimh |

Hostess was very rude when we walked in with a small group of 5. Very irritable, told us there was a long wait and seemed like she was trying to get us to leave.

Great food and service

By Ruby C |

We went for brunch at 10:30. There was no waiting. Our server Avery was delightful and the food was awesome!

Best Ramen Ever!

By Shelbyhartzler |

This restaurant is amazing! The staff are all super friendly, the decor was amazing you felt like you were in Japan. We were seated in one of their “swing seats” it was so fun! The food was delicious. We ordered the crunchy atomic salmon roll, robot ramen, and my friend did the “build your own bowl.” Everything we ordered was fantastic! I would highly recommend this restaurant if you love Japanese food!

Excellent Japanse food, great service and atmosphere

By James O |

Coming from NYC to visit Austin, we were not expecting to enjoy the restaurants very much. We were pleasantly surprised by this Japanese food restaurant that has a unique interior and very friendly staff. You have to try the brussel sprout appetizer, it was excellent. Of course, the sushi was great too. Also, they have many types of sake which I had never tried before, the sake sampler is a must. Definitely enjoy your time and food here.

Lucky Humans

By Gregory H |

Stopped in for dinner before a show at the nearby Continental Club. Service was great - our server walked us through the menu and the specials, and made excellent recommendations. The rolls were imaginative and well made. Dishes from the hot kitchen looked good as they passed by us, but we did not try any of them. This was a good find - worth a return.

Cutest sushi restaurant ever!

By Patricia D |

On a date? They have a couple tables with hanging swing seating for two. The waitstaff wear adorable schoolgirl outfits and the walls are covered in fun art. The menu had options for omnivores as well as herbivores. Unexpected items such as the Happy Hippy Taco are among my faves! When the waitress noticed my dining companion was not into an item she mistakenly ordered she took it off our bill, which though unnecessary was much appreciated. A must if you're visiting South Congress.

Great service. Unique menu.

By myjudge2 |

We really liked the menu. My wife had sushi and I had the "Make your own bowl". The veggies were really fresh the sauce was amazing. My bowl came out with the wrong vegetables and the manager (owner?) came by to apologize and offer us a free appetizer or drinks. Everyone was nice. Next time, we'll try the porch swing style seating.

Our waiter was great

By Leah S |

Two words: cherry bomb! Absolutely delicious! The food was great and they even made the grandmas happy. My chief rub is parking but it’s south congress so it comes with location. Our food was delicious, but honestly our SERVER WAS THE BEST! He went above and beyond to make my daughter’s lunch great! Super impressed! He was one of the best servers I have ever worked with!

Different Strokes for Different Folks

By Rebecca B |

If my husband were writing this review, he would give it five stars and talk about how great the atmosphere and food were. But, unfortunately for Lucky Robot, he is not writing this review. I found the place to be disappointing after hearing so many good things about it. I was really put off by the atmosphere. All the waitresses dress like stereotypical "Japanese schoolgirls" with the short skirts, high socks, and tight white shirts. That might be fine for some people, but I found it a bit upsetting. Also, while our waitress was very good at her job, her constant personification of a "Japanese schoolgirl" complete with non-stop giggling and eye fluttering was a bit over the top. However my husband thought it was funny and wasn't upset by it at all, so, hence the title of my review, some people will love their over-the-top atmosphere while others won't care for it. The food was good though. I had the "Make Your Own Bowl" option with chicken, veggies, Thai coconut curry, and noodles. The portion size was very nice for the price, and I had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. My husband got sushi, and he loved it. The sodas are Maine Root brand and are HUGE with free refills - great value. If we go back, I think I'll push for take out.

Good Menu

By Gloria L |

This restaurant is where Zen's used to be and it is managed by the same owners. It has a wider variety in their selections but is a high priced menu. They do have lunch specials and happy hour pricing. I tried the edamame but it was too oily for my tastes. I tried some white fish sushi and it was very tasty.

You will be lucky if you get a chance to eat there! So good!

By john w |

We found this place by accident because I liked the name. Man, is this a good place to eat! Excellent fresh Sushi and there is a large pitcher drink called "Get Lucky". LOL what a good pitcher to drink with a few people. Ambiance is so cool. You can even eat your food while sitting in a swing! Not sure i would do that after a few drinks HAHAHA! Very Important!! We went back and it was just as good. Hard to achieve in this kind of cool vibe restaurant.

More than just sushi

By David S |

The sushi rolls were interesting and high quality. I also enjoyed the japanese menu items. I can't remember the japanese name, but it was kind like egg foo yong. But it was awesome, ask for it.

Excellent

By Rick D |

Fresh and well presented sushi. Dumplings were just right. Great variety of Sakes to try and service was perfect. Definitely will put on my list of must do’s when in Austin.

Great for sushi and more!

By JPYarbrough |

We loved this little sushi find in Austin! In addition to great, flavorful rolls, they had a brussel sprout appetizer that was delicious! We waited about 30 minutes for a table (on a Saturday night). They don't take reservations. Giving them four stars because it is noisy and crowded inside - the food is better than the ambience.

Wonderful food

By CreveCoeurMo |

You can see from the pictures that, if you sit outside, you are adjacent to the curb. I think they serve inside also, but on a beautiful fall day, eating outside was delightful. The service was great and the food was delicious. I am a little late on this review and don't remember what each of the 3 of us ordered, but I remember that it was Good.

Great sushi in Austin

By josemahouston |

We tried to come on a Friday night and it was a long waiting line so we came back for lunch on Saturday and it was worth it. Sushi rolls include classics and new ones but all with a different twist. The teriyaki bowls are also really good. Service is great, but then again most people in Austin are very nice. Atmosphere is great. I recommend it if you want great food on a relax environment.

Just ok

By JohnnysGoodLifeTips |

Sushi just ok Cool place , friendly service We took the most recommended nigiri , but unfortunately it’s overpriced and not as expected Ademame provided on the house as kitchen was busy

Beautiful & Delicious

By Helen C |

Always wanted to dine and with the cherry blossom pop up it was a win win 😊 Came during lockdown and they had great social distancing. All our wait staff was friendly and quick. We ordered several apps and a entree. My favorites were toro+fig, hiramasa serrano, beef hot rock, and the AMAZING dessert. Everything else we ordered was really good. Careful on the spicy edamae Hahaha cleanse the palate.

Great Lunch !!

By Carlos G |

Surprise Lunch

By browneyez2u |

We stumbled across this gem while exploring. The food is simply amazing. My mom, sister and I ordered different things so we can share and try different things out. And the flavors of all the dishes were different but in a very good way. They definitely have flavors so if you like plain food this is not for you. The sushi was great as well as the seaweed salad. And their bowls are so delicious. They have wonderful service and everything is very clean and friendly. And very affordable, they have lunch specials. Wish we had gotten to eat on the swing but maybe next time! We highly recommend it.

Prettiest Sashimi Moriwase I've every seen

By Gary T |

We visited on a Sunday at noon and had a reservation so we were seated right away. We ordered 5 dishes in all and all were good or excellent. The Edamame was warm and salted just right and is a big bowl so you can share. At $5 it is a very good choice. The California role is 8 pieces, tasted yummy and at $6.50 also a good value. The Salmon Ceviche was a super star in terms of taste, but a bit small for sharing among three people, so I'd order two for sharing between three or more. At $14 for such a small portion it is not very good value. The Sashimi Moriwase consisted of three pieces of 5 types of fish and was also delicious since the fish was very fresh. It was palted in a manner that will turn your head, it was just plain pretty. At $27 for 15 pieces of fresh fish it has decent value. Service was good but the kitchen was slow to get the Sashimi out. We were sharing so it wasn't a big deal.

Delicous

By racetony |

Lucky robot was so yummi! I can highly recommend to visit this spot. The quality of food and service was both outstanding.

Sushi From the Future, Served in a Dream

By 652awsb |

Hellooo Walked in just expecting sushi walked out feeling like I’d briefly visited a Tokyo arcade on the moon. The nigiri was next-level fresh, like it had a personality. One of the rolls (can’t remember the name, but it had spicy tuna and some citrus thing going on) basically restructured my brain chemistry in a gentle, respectful way. The interior is weird in the best possible sense neon touches, soft lighting, a vibe like an anime character might be dining two tables over. Service was fast but friendly, like they knew I needed this meal more than I realized. Would recommend if you want your lunch to taste great and feel like a small existential side quest.

Amazing Japanese Food

By Jacob E |

Fun, lively atmosphere and great Japanese bowls. My favorite meal is the Lo mien bowl with wagyu beef, farm box vegetables, and teriyaki sauce. Overall AMAZING food!

Simply amazing

By Bakunzi |

So I arrived in Austin about 6 months ago to a lot of hoopla about the city and it has been nothing short of amazing. The people, the weather and everything, sure there are some minor segregations, minor hiccups and the weather can be extreme, but never one to dwell on what makes a place not perfect I seek the best out of where I am. Sooooooooooooooo the Lucky Robot. Goodness gracious the food was amazing. I had the Udon Yakizakana which is sea bass, shiitake mushroom, cabbage, scallion ponzu, udon. Please have it. Please feast on this delectable plate. My taste buds went nuts. I am by no means a foodie but I thought I instantly became one after this. I mean man!!!!!!! Well prepared and delicious. What makes Lucky Robto a place I had to review was this: I went there quite late in the evening and when they undoubtedly had a long day and were one of the last to sit just when they anticipated closing and I was watching the attitude and movements of the staff..... to my surprise and expectation and hapoiness, they treated me with the same energy and courtesy like it was the beginning of the shift. They also must really love the food and relish the fact they work at a place with such a good reputation because they sold me on the food I was going to get anyway. Customer service turns so much around and they have got a fan for life in me.

Delicious!

By mlfralick |

This place has character and great tasting Japanese food! It's a casual place where you can get some great food at a reasonable price. We will definitely be back for more!

sashimi in Austin

By Soulki |

Great for a casual night. Excellent sashimi selection. Be brave, even if you haven't had it before. My favorite was the Suzuki!! Spicy edamame was delicious as well. Service was impeccable.

Delicious pork buns!

By Nancy C |

The food is always so tasty and great service! It does have very dim lighting at night but a great atmosphere regardless!

Best value in SoCo!

By whereswaldonow |

Love, love, love Lucky Robot. The food is fresh, the menu is varied, the service is great, and the ambience is hip. Also, the prices are extremely reasonable. You def get a good bang for your buck here.

Funky & Flavorful

By branchbubba |

This place is in a busy secton of South Congress Dining is available both inside and on the sidewalk. We chose the sidewalk and the people watching was great. I had a "Schoolgirl Bowl' that was spicy chicen with veggies over rice. It was good and not very spicy. I like spicey food and this was mild. My wife had a salmon salad that she thought were great. The table shared a crispy brussel spout appitizer that was very good. Wait staff was nice though he could have been a tad more attentive. Would go again if I happened to be in the are, but it is not a must for me on a 3day Austin trip.

Great service on a cold Saturday night and fantastic Japanese flavors abound!

By changrcc |

Our family finally got around to trying Lucky Robot on South Congress this past Saturday night ... and we're really glad we did! There are a number of good and great Japanese restaurants in town ... some more kid friendly than others! Our nine and eight year old daughters really enjoyed this venue. While we didn't get a table w/ the swinging chairs, just seeing them was pretty far out for our girls. When we walked in, around 7:20 pm or so, there were a couple of people in front of us, and we were told our party of four could take up to 40 minutes wait time! We don't normally like to wait that long, but a quick scan of the joint looked that it was going to be much faster than 40 minutes. And true enough a number of tables opened up about 10 minutes into our wait and we were seated. Once seated, the service was excellent. Our waitress took drink orders, followed up w/ apps, and then our main selections. We had a special request for the ramen to be just noodles in the broth and everything else on the side, which they accommodated very nicely! (This is the only way one of my daughters eats ramen!) We had the toro and fig specials which was excellent ... a great blend of flavors and subtle sweet, salty, and tangy taste! The house hot sake was a good drink to pair up w/ the various sushi rolls. Along w/ the toro and fig, we had the voltron, spider, and avocado rolls. My youngest daughter had the teriyaki chicken rice. For apps we had the standard edamame and the awesome Brussels sprouts! Our various dishes came out in waves by several different servers and our waitress was very attentive! We'll be back to work through other parts of the menu and their specials!!

Japanese Tacos!

By Rodric E |

Eclectic menu offering fresh sushi and Japanese fusion dishes. (I had a Japanese fried chicken taco that was amazingly good.) The environment is hipster-oriented, but in a good way...

My Favorite Austin Food Spot

By Chad D |

I love this place and eat here every time I visit Austin. Casual cool cafe style with amazing food at affordable prices. The brussels sprouts app and Schoolboy Bowl are my favorite. The sushi and ramen are great too. Lots of great shops around so its a good lunch spot.

Diverse menu; great service and food

By Kay M |

We were shopping on S. Congress and saw this place. We were able to get a table with no waiting. There were four of us, and we shared several different plates. We loved all of the sushi we tried, but we also enjoyed the fried Brussels sprouts and the prickly pear sake carafe. This is a fun place, and the service is top notch.

The place looks cheesy, but...

By ShilohTodorov |

The menu is fun and inventive and delicious. Grab a table outside to people watch SoCo over a great meal with great service.

Great Sushi.

By David P |

I just visited Lucky Robot on SoCo (South Congress) after eyeing it for months. My wife and I went and tried several different types of sushi while sitting on Lucky Robots outdoor patio. All of the sushi we tried was great and we enjoyed sitting on SoCo and watching all of the action. We will be back.

Lunch while on south congress st, in Austin Texas.

By Michael P |

Dropped in for a quick lunch on south congress, got the chicken teriyaki with brown rice bowl. It was excellent and one of the best chicken and teriyaki meals I've had. The service was also excellent, my server (Karen) did a great job of following up on my needs and keep my water glass full.

Great sushi restaurant

By Klare R |

I came here with my sister on our girls weekend to Austin. Thomas was a great server and helped us decide the best food to choose. All the food was lovely. Will visit again next time we are in Austin

Cartoonish BUT the fish are fresh

By sofiteme |

Went on a sunny Sunday and looking for sushi, after googling found this place to be walking distance from where we parked. I must say, given I was new to Austin and this part of town, it was a sweet surprise for me. THOUGH I don't like the limited parking availability. We had to circle a couple times and ended up parking in this crammed parking structure. The SOCO district is a full energy. People look healthy and generally not overweight, noticed no one was smoking in the area...like like like. We wanted to get ice cream next door, but the line was waaaay to long. Now onward with the review... The color and decor to this join is bright and vivacious... trying to capture the feel of Anime Japan. Inside was a bit stuffy, so we asked to be seated outdoor. The hostess was dressed in her best..see picture. The menu offers a variety from raw, rolls, ramen, ribs to rice... Though a bit on the pricey side, it was worth our touristy time. The sashimi we ordered was very fresh and very good, but the cut is smaller than other places I have been nationally. The rice used was of good quality. It's not a traditional Japanese sushi place. I ordered a light mixed drink given it was daytime. Really refreshing on a warm Sunday.

Amazing sustainable sushi!

By Gergana |

All of their seafood is sustainable, which is amazing. Also, very delicious 😀 No parking lot so you'll have to find street parking but that's Congress Ave for ya. Really great service. We did one of the sake flights and all the options chosen by the somalier were spot on. Definitely recommend!

Decent food/Decent price

By Barron B |

We stopped in a little after 1:00pm on Saturday and there were serving brunch. I don't know if this is a breakfast all the time place or brunches run pretty late here. I had to ask for a Gluten Free menu, which unfortunately my doctor tells me I have to follow now days (sucks for me). The did have a gluten free menu, which was very cool, but it was in a three ring binder which I thought was kind of weird but I thank them for making the effort all the same. I had the Rising Sun, which was basically pork belly, a fried egg and rice. The presentation was three balls of rice, I believe four pieces of pork belly and a small sunny side up I think egg laid on one of the balls of rice. I guess when I ordered I was more expecting a bowl of rice cooked/tossed with pork belly with an egg on top so that when I cut the egg the yolk with flavor the rice/pork belly. There was also two mounds of sliced cucumber. I did not think they went with the meal that well. They traditionally serve this with a sesame seed vinaigrette, but that was not gluten free unfortunately so I had to go with a spicy sauce which was actually pretty good. The porkbelly was cooked well done I would say and I would have preferred it a little less done. It was good enough to order again, but I would not rave about the dish. My wife got the pancakes, and though they were ok, but I think she would order something different next time. The one thing I would add to my wish list is one decaf tea.

Exploring

By Erin V |

My family and I were walking around the area since we were out of town. We decided on this restaurant since it looked fun. The walls were fun to look at as well as the unique furniture. Personally, I didn't like the food. I had the electric eel which was okay, but the bowls I tried weren't tasty to me. Perhaps the combinations of food they made were too odd for me.

Great Food

By GoIrish2013 |

Fun place for Japanese food. We tried the spicy edamame... fantastic! Crisped brussels sprouts... fantastic! And then we had a couple bowls -- spicy chicken and chicken teriyaki. Every dish was great and would definitely go back next time I visit Austin.

Decent place in a cool spot

By Chris_and_Krissy |

The Brussel sprouts were AH-mazing. Cooked to perfection! My husband got the robot ramen. He said "I haven't had these flavors in a while. This is one of the most different things I've ever ate. It's decent" I got the tiger roll. It was a little odd with the goat cheese. Almost too much going on in the roll with weird flavors (smoked salmon as well). If you see goat cheese and we're like me and think oh I love goat cheese. I have to try that in a sushi roll- just order something else. I wasn't impressed with how sloppy the roll was either (see photo) Great service and great atmosphere though! I will give it another try and get something a little more traditional next time. Brunch menu looks awesome. But we arrived 15 min too late for brunch.

Delish

By Daryll M |

I love love love sushi and this place is fantastic! Not only is the sushi excellent, but so are their starters and sake! They also start you off with the cute little wet Japanese and towels that are so nice and refreshing. Servers are always on top of their game and I have never had a bad experience here.

Exceptional Service and Flavors

By Ki |

Brady provided an amazing experience—attentive without being overbearing, making my birthday feel extra special. We kicked things off with Pork Belly, Spicy Edamame, and Shrimp Bao Buns. The Pork Belly was delicious, paired with plantains, though I wasn't a fan of those this time. The sauce on the edamame was fantastic, especially with the spicy seasoning on the side, allowing us to control the heat. The real star of the starters was the Shrimp Bao Bun; it surprised us at first, but after the first bite, we knew we had to order more. For drinks, we enjoyed the Espressyo Self (love the pun!), Strawberry Mint Mule, and Maracuya Sour. The Strawberry Mint Mule was the standout, with the Maracuya Sour coming in a close second; the Espressyo Self was my least favorite, though it was still enjoyable—I've just had better Espresso Martinis. I'm usually not a fan of salt on drinks, but the salt on the Maracuya Sour was surprisingly good. The Spider Roll was delightful, with the honey crisp apple adding an unexpected but lovely flavor. Both the Sea-3PO and Hira Hira rolls were tasty as well. However, the Crunchy Atomic Salmon lacked flavor; it definitely needed ginger and soy sauce. Of all the rolls, the Sea-3PO was my favorite. To cap off the meal, Brady surprised us with Yuzu Pie for my birthday, and it was exceptional—all the flavors came together beautifully. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu. These recommendations are based on my experience, and I highly suggest you try them for yourself. The service alone is a reason to come back!

Japanese in SoCo, So Go!

By Michael S |

Fresh fish from Tsukiji? Yes siree, right here in SoCo (South Congress for you visitors) flown in every Monday and Thursday. Fish arrives about 1 and is ready about 4. Well, I was there on Saturday and so got only one of the two they carried this week - the Amberjack. It was outstanding. All the fish was at the right temperature, slightly below room temp on slightly warm sushi rice helping bring out the delicious fish flavors and filling the end with barely vinegary rice. I also tried the Yellowtail, Salmon and Escarole. Every bite outstanding. I started with the pork & shrimp dumplings with Plum Cranberry Nimono. Wow! ... So, I am preparing a late Thursday afternoon visit in the near future.

Fine, but a bit overpriced

By Raeanne V |

Started with fried calamari. It was great. Came with two different dipping sauces that were tasty. Tried 4 different sushi rolls. Two came with 5 pieces, 2 came with eight. All over over $10 each, a bit much in my opinion for the smaller rolls. They all had the sauces put on the plate instead of on top of the rolls, so we dipped, but it didn't get distributed as evenly as it would have if done normally. Also, they rolls weren't cut into equal portions- one section would be about 1/2 inch thick and the one next to it 1 inch... was a bit odd. Usually sushi is so precise. Nothing tasted bad, but I left with the impression that I'd rather try somewhere else before returning here. The decor was very fun and funky- some tables had porch swings for chairs.

To die for fried Brussels sprouts

By Nathalie R |

I love this place! We eat here every time we visit Austin which is more often now that my son is at UT. This is our favorite restaurant. I love the fried Brussels sprouts and can eat a whole bowl myself. I usually go for the rice bowls instead of the sushi but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu here.

Great variety

By BhadraKali2015 |

Love the just-brewed iced green tea. The brussel sprouts and the build your own bowl are my favorite. Great for gluten-free, vegan/vegetarian folks who want to have lunch with their carnivore friends. Everyone says the sushi is great but I haven't tried it (I keep ordering the BYOB because it's so good). The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because sometimes there is a bit of a wait and parking is challenging. But it's worth it.

Great Japanese Food at Competitive Prices

By MJF-USA |

Lucky Robot serves great Japanese food. We both had the bento box including teriyaki chicken and sushi/nigiri. Very delicious and at $12 reasonably priced. Totally recommendable, great staff as well.

Great sushi (ngiri rolls)

By 442sonia |

Very popular with all of our family. Fun and casual - staff are clearly determinedly "cool". As well as what was on the menu, the staff were very happy to make some plainer ngiri rolls for our kids.

Excellent sushi in fun place.

By DallasLonghorn |

Cool decor, and completely slammed even on a Sunday night. Probably the best spicy edamame I've ever had - you could eat anything in that sauce. Really enjoyed the apps and the sushi. Excellent and fresh. Only complaint is they were out of the R2D2 roll (which we wanted to try), and the place was fairly warm inside. But it was hot as Hades outside, so no worries. Highly recommend.

Lucky Robot - Don’t let name chase you off

By Steve C |

Trendy name- but food is really good, so don’t let it chase you off if you are over 30. I am not a big fan of sushi. We were at a birthday dinner for grandson. And it turns out that we were Lucky. Food was very good. Yes we started out with other food than sushi, but tried a number of types of sushi. We really enjoyed the food. Seating was kind of tight, and spartan but a fun atmosphere. The chicken teriyaki bowl is the best flavor that I have ever enjoyed. And the sushi was the best - in my limited experience. Kids said that it was their favorite- with a lot of experience.

Once again... awesome 😎

By Divebabydive |

Went here for Saturday night dinner. Food was awesome. Tried some new dishes and so e familiar ones. The king cebiche was awesome. See picture. The white chocolate yume was our choice of dessert...also awesome 😎

Worth the wait

By Becky V |

The crispy Brussels sprouts are delicious!! Chicken teriyaki was good, my husband had the build a bowl. We felt like it was the best meal we had in Austin.

Amazing presentation, good tastes, disappointing services

By FuzzyBeesMom |

Presentations and creativity are absolutely amazing and experiences sitting in a swing, watching hand towels growing from scented water in front of our eyes are so entertaining! Just modern and different atmospheres to be in. Tastes of food didn’t meet presentations. I would have rated 4 for that. However, we had a horrible experiences from bad services that scarred our family reunion, resulting in a rating of 3. We had a family reunion with 8 of us in a party, and we selected this place since 3 family members are vegan. Vegan choices are also remarkable. As for food, we shared an R2D2 roll which had beef in a roll. Beef was not very fresh, chewy, and overcooked. My salmon from chazuke was overcooked despite its freshness. Food was not authentic while well-fusioned. For example, curry didn’t come with rice, which is a must in Japan for curry. I must say that Yuzu pie was amazing!!! As for the service, our waitress only communicated with our vegan family members and stayed in one spot. When we ordered appetizers, she only asked from our vegan members. I had to go looking for the waitress to add non-vegan appetizers for the rest of the family. Appetizers came so late due to delayed order. Meat eaters had to eat vegan appetizers while waiting since we were all hungry. Vegan members had a lot less food than intended since they had to share their food while we all waited. When we are ordering dinner, again, the waitress stayed in one spot at the end of the table by our vegan member. I have never seen a waitress not moving closer to a person placing an order for a large party. . I found this very rude and unfriendly. It was so difficult to ask a question about a menu or to order. She only catered to our vegan members for drink refill, menu questions, etc. The rest of us had to get her attention from our servers. In fact, my meat-eating son didn’t get his order taken. I had to get up from my seat again to chase down the waitress to place his order. The service was not at all inclusive, and we (5 of us without vegan diet) felt punished for eating meat and seafood. It’s not even a vegan restaurant! Service was not at all pleasant from this person. As a paying person for the family, I feel so wrong paying fixed 20% tip for this inappropriate service from this server we had. There were 2 male servers assisting us, and they were very attentive and served everyone at the table in a friendly manner. Still based on this unequal treatment resulting in unpleasant experiences, I’m unsure if we will come back.

Take out to the Austin Hotel!!!!!

Went to get yummy terriaki chicken and tiger rolls! Also edaname. Extra spicy. Would go again walking distance from Austin Motel on s.congress... Thumbs up for me

Perfect portions for the happiest Happy Hour

By Laura H |

I visited with my family, and we had a wonderful time! The food was perfectly portioned and absolutely delicious. I loved everything we ordered: spicy edamame, okonomiyaki, sake nashi, chicken karaage taco, mr. roboto and kurobuta. The okonomiyaki (seafood "pancake") and kurobuta (pork belly sushi) were the best part of the dinner. And, we topped it off with an amazing dessert of a salted caramel popcorn cupcake (made by the owner's wife) and a bit of Amy's Ice Cream. The price was good for such delicious food on South Congress. We can't wait to come back on our next trip to Austin!

Fun cocktails during Happy Hour

By Jeneille A |

First time in Austin, came here for their happy hour on Wednesdays, which included their carafes of cocktails. The cocktails were delicious, ambiance was fun and inventive however the food was a bit on the under average. I'd give it another shot, but maybe during brunch or just for drinks again.

Great food and great location!

By annes9232016 |

LUCKY ROBOT is a great Japanese kitchen with delicious sushi. It was a lovely evening and we were able to sit outside. It was a great people watching venue with so many people out and about on South Congress. Our server Daniela was very pleasant, friendly and helpful as we selected the sushi we wanted as well as the wine and saki. Everything we ordered was delicious and delivered in a very timely manner. On my next trip to Austin I will definitely be returning to Lucky Robot!

Cool place for sushi Love the swing!

By Titleist1977 |

This place is so Austin. Creative-fresh-cool-good. Liked ordering on ipad. Nice to not have to wait around for someone to help you. The swings in this place are on top of my list for cool restaurant ideas.

Good Japanese food in a BBQ town

By Ross B |

Great food, good presentation and you can eat as much or as little as you like - which is always a plus in the US

It looked like nigiri, only smaller

By Nancy M |

I ordered 3 different nigiri, and my husband ordered a chicken rice bowl. The 3 sushi arrived about 10 minutes after the chicken bowl. These were less than half the size of an average nigiri, about 1/2 tsp of rice and a minuscule portion of fish. The only factor that keeps my review from being a 1 is that the fish was indeed very fresh.

Sushi plus

By SJRJA |

Great, creative sushi. Came twice during our two week stay in Austin, tried a third time but the wait was too long on Thursday at Happy Hour time. My husband and kids loved the sushi, I am not as big a fan of sushi so I had one of their bowls which was unique and delicious. Loved the freshness of the arugula and apple salad, could have eaten that all day...Wait staff was very knowledgeable and easily accomodated a food allergy in our group. Casual, Funky decor.

Truly AMAZING sushi - the best I've ever had. Everything here is full of flavor and ultra-fresh.

By T. Ashley |

The best sushi I've ever had. We visited Lucky Robot in 2018 and loved it so much we were sure to go back in 2024. It was just as good if not better than we remembered. Especially the spider rolls with green apple in them - AMAZING. Also great was the vegan dumpling appetizer. I'm not a vegan. I'm wary of vegan. But this appetizer with cashew cheese and vegetables was AMAZING. I also never order mocktails, but I tried one here and, of course; AMAZING. SO MUCH flavor in everything. I would eat here several times a month if I lived in Austin. Also loved their signs on the bathroom doors.

Yum.

By Lorie B |

Sat down quickly on a Friday night at 7. Great service and amazing food. Calamari was uber yum. Build your own bowl was fresh and delicious! Will return. Fun atmosphere with funky decor, swings at table hanging from ceiling, and great art/murals on wall.

Fun atmosphere, good sushi

By AmberJoBo |

The sushi was pretty good and good range of prices. Spicy edamame was the BEST! The Eye of the Tiger was our favorite roll. Nothing super fancy, mostly average size rolls and came in 6-8 pieces. Fun decor and bench swings for seats. Nice waiter but service was so-so. Would go back.

J Stultz

By Jstultz47 |

Our best meal in Austin! The music playing that morning was the best which set the scene. The entire staff was a joyful, efficient team. We asked our waitress to suggest a variety of dishes and each was delicious. A couple carafes of mimosas topped it off and we left the Lucky Robot with happy tummies.

Pretentious and disorganized

By Alex_Tallinn |

Japanese food is all about tradition, but there was very little of that here. Fish was very cold, and orders took forever to arrive – an hour for an avocado roll. The only thing that was in plentiful supply was weirdness. What is that apple doing in my tuna roll?

Good Food

By Okiemom61777 |

My friend and I were hungry after watching the bats and decided to eat here after a local suggested it. We split the edamame, and both of us had the udon bowl. Walked out completely stuff and quite satisfied.

Lucky Robot? Lucky Me!!

By Julie W |

I loved this place for its quirky charm, fantastic service, and outstanding food. They specialize in a great variety of Japanese cuisine, such as sushi, noodle bowls, and small plates. Dishes come out as they are ready so it's a great place to share. We ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer: rich and flavorful with sweet soy, I got sushi which was fast and very fresh. My friend ordered a bowl of soup that was $18 which I was sorta poking fun at until I tried it!! Udon noodles in a sour spicy broth loaded with fresh seafood and veggies was so mind blowingly tasty that I'll be back just for it again!

I Loved This Place

By BobbyWashington |

I live in Portland and have eaten sushi nearly every week for nearly 30 years --in Japan (including Tsukiji Market 5 times), CA, Seattle, Vancouver (BC), Chicago, NYC, and points in between. Lucky Robot exceeded my expectations and is right up there with the best sushi bars --even with all their non-traditional fare. A note to cranky Yelpers: The service I received from everyone here on a moderately busy Sunday evening was A+. Not sure why several people claim staff isn't polite, attentive, accommodating. My hostess had a sense of humor; my server was super knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient; and the 3 chefs behind the bar were attentive, chatty, and 100% focused on quality fish and presentation. I was delighted by their compact, quality Sake menu, Sake Nashi appetizer, gorgeously presented Yellowtail Tuna, Hama Hama and Electric Eel rolls (without sauce), Hotate nigiri, the most inventive presentation of Tobiko with Quail Egg nigiri I've had to date (yolks served in the shell for shooting), and their Tsukiji Market special. I also loved the Chai Cheesecake I took away for dessert. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the Chefs really elevate each plate to a higher level. In most sushi bars --including Nobu, nigiri and sashimi are simple affairs. At LR each piece of fish was artfully designed and complemented by edible flowers, paper thin radish and / or lemon slices, colorful tobiko, and more. The generous size and cut of each piece of fish were also top notch and a good value for the price. Though I sat at the sushi bar, the restaurant seemed a bit cramped and chaotic. I'm sure that's a problem for large parties, people with young kids in tow, or anyone hoping for a romantic place to take a date. My suggestion? Suck it up and focus on the excellent food and service LR provides. If my experience was typical, this terrific sushi bar is a welcome alternative to the 1-3 hour waits everyone seems fine with for (IMHO, the vastly overrated) Franklin BBQ and la Barbeque. Eat here instead ..... even if you have to wait to get a table and your kid has to behave like a civilized human being in public for an hour.

swings

By Steve P |

The sushi was top notch and very reasonably priced. First time to try sake and it was good. Our waiter knew what he was doing and could offer knowledgeable advice about the dishes we were unfamiliar with. The decor was very interesting . A small place but was busy. Not a long wait for food. Very enjoyable experience.

Lucky Robot great sushi with anime style on SoCo

By travel_nut_1960 |

They have a Japanese anime theme and everything is named for a robot. It’s quite funny but it is serious sushi. Forget the décor, the food is fantastic. They have fish flown in daily from Tokyo’s Tsukiji Fish Market, it is the real deal. The fish is so fresh and they have a large selection. I just go for the chef’s choice. They must have 20 different maki rolls. I really like the “Voltron” roll but they are all good. They have a great deal for lunch during the week. The Robot Bento Box with 2 pieces of different types of fish, salad, 4 pieces of California Roll, and Teriyaki Chicken for $12. That’s a great deal and the food is awesome! They have a good selection of sake too. Get Snow Maiden if you’re on a budget or get my favorite, Dreamy Cloud. It is wonderful sake. The restaurant is owned by the same people that own the top sushi restaurant in town so it’s great but more affordable and casual. It’s not cheap but it is a good deal for what you get. And you don’t want cheap fish, do you? I pop in here every chance I get.

Great menu

By hjhoosier |

I am a vegan so finding restaurants to please both sides is sometimes a challenge. This place had it all, from sushi to beef, chicken and tofu. I ordered a BYOB which was a create your own bowl. It had veggies and tofu with a chili sauce. Yummy! If you like Pei Wei and PG Changs try this place. Much better!

My Bad, Missed This Why?

By FoodfanUSA |

I've been by this place a thousand times and never stopped in...hence the title. This place may be one if the best kept secrets in Austin? Not sure how as its in soco? Anyway, great location, chill atmosphere and really, really good service. Fantastic menu including saki and sushi. Try the Brussel sprouts and spicy edemame. Had the pork belly nomno something and it was fantastic. Others had the build your own bowl with teriyaki chicken and fat noodles which is not to be mixed. Best price value Japanese restaurant in Austin.

just go

By saltpointpup |

super fresh ingredients, enthusiastic staff, cool vibe. we sat at the sushi bar and watched the talented staff sending out item after item of beautifully designed plates

This was a very interesting venue for the food itself

By teri1352 |

We had great food at this fun restaurant. What we had looked like it was alive when we got it. We had a dish that was noted on the window menu but was not on the menu inside. We wanted something on the outside menu so the chef made it for us. It was a combination of various seafoods and avocado and looked like a shrimp pizza. It was delicious! The interesting thing was that it appeared to be alive when we got it as there was very, very thin fish skin on the top of it that waved around due to the heat making the dish appear alive.....WEIRD! One does not eat the fish skin unless you like that sort of things. We almost did not want it as it was "scarey" looking but it was totally wonderful. Our other items were fabulous as well. Try this place out...you will most definitely be pleased with the menu items!

Perpetual Austin Top 5

By Ray S |

Lucky Robot has always been an amazing Austin experience, but it had been a while since we had a chance to visit. It’s somehow better than ever, from the exceptional menu to the top tier service and atmosphere. As an Austin native, perpetually in my top 5 recommendations

Good change from beef!

By Iris H |

We needed a break from nights of Texas beef and this place got great reviews and was in walking distance from where we stayed. Place is cute and busy and food was a great change from what we had been eating. Sushi was innovative and tasty, though seaweed wrap was a bit tough to chew, and my husband enjoyed his ramen as well. We are from New York so the bar is set kind of high for this type of cuisine but Lucky Robot almost hits all the boxes.

Great sushi!

By Jamie S |

Worth the wait. No reservations, and had to wait 1:15 hours, but worth it. Tiny restaurant but big faire! Lots of sushi and sake options. And all were great. Especially the Tasmanian ocean rainbow trout! Also the Wagyu cooked on the hot stone. All great!

Dinner

By Aaron C |

We came here for dinner. Even though it was packed, we got sat immediately. First thing first, our server was explaining they menu to us. I had been here before but can you say information overload. We sat there patiently while she told us what's best and what we should try. No problem, we ordered our drinks, took us 15 mins to receive them. She ignored us almost all the time we were there. She took better care of the table next to us. I used to be a server so I gave her a chance, but no she just gave us bad service. She must have though we weren't gonna tip. Shame. Other than that food was really good. We got the pork and shrimp dumplings, teriyaki chicken and spicy chicken. It was great. Will be coming back again. Just different server.

Yummy food, great atmosphere

By meg_ldn |

We went to Lucky Robot for a quick bite and a lot of the menu seemed a bit confusing, so we got the BYOB (build your own bowl) option, which was a yummy noodley stir fry with vegetables. The service was great by a girl who was really sweet and she was even happy to split our meal for us. Probably one of the cheaper meals we've had in Austin yet as we both ate for under $15 including a drink. The decor inside the restaurant is also pretty cool and makes the environment fun to be in!

Unique Asian Cuisine in a Fun Setting

By 2lovenlearn |

We had a relaxing lunch that I'll go back for on my next Austin trip. Seaweed Salad was amazing! We added the Tiger Eye Roll, Salmon Nasu, and Suzuki Sushi. All were delicious! Service was friendly and attentive. A bit pricey, but it's trendy Austin location makes it all worth it.

Delicious Japanese Food, Quirky Fun Decor

By Dana K |

We love the fun atmosphere on Congress Ave and it's nice to people watch. Lucky Robot is rarely crowded, but the food is always stellar. Our kids eat simple: edamame, miso, and California rolls, and my husband and I like to try different things every time we go. Always a must are the fried Brussels sprouts. The sushi rolls are good, as are the bowls and apps. You won't be disappointed!

Looks Cooler Than It Was

By GallavantingGalleta |

Went with my husband and while it was okay, we were expecting much greater from a place that was so well themed and decorated. The portions seemed a bit small for the price and nothing really wowed us with the food. We're not sorry we went, but with such a great food scene in Austin I doubt we'll go back.

Happy Hour visit

By Jim C |

Nice place with good atmosphere. I liked the appetizers we tried. It's a pleasant change from the other restaurants in a very busy area. The staff was nice. They have two swings for seating, which I think entertains and adds to the atmosphere.

Swinging in the Saki!

By JOHN W |

Another amazing Austin Sushi Place. Please try the vegetarian roll. It will blow your mind. We had 7 different rolls and they were all amazing. The specialty cocktails are out of this world! On one night during the week they have great deals on carafes of these cocktails. Plus you have to eat sushi in the inside porch swing looking out the window!! Best seat in the house!

Nice, but not special

By loveluxurytravel |

Nice Japanese restaurant in SoCo district of Austin, across from the San Jose Hotel. Good food, but not special. Mediocre service, very busy. Tables too close for comfort.

Great Sushi and Great Service

By Dave B |

Fantastic food, we had the Miso Soup, Chicken Teriyaki, Tuna Nigiri and Tempura Shrimp Rolls all of which were fantastic. I went to Catch in LA last week and the food here in Lucky Robot far exceeded it. The service we received from Beebop was also fantastic. Will definitely be returning.

Super busy for a reason

By SJS557 |

Random stop on a business trip resulted in us having some of the best sushi of our lives. Street side seating, efficient waitstaff, happening location, and really amazing food.

Pleasantly Surprised

By MsDayTripper |

Had dinner here this past Saturday night. Our friends told us it was "fine," so we weren't expecting a great meal, but it turned out to be just that. We had a few types of sashimi and sushi (yellowtail is my favorite, and theirs is delicious), and we shared two rolls - the Hama Hama and the Crunchy Atomic Salmon. Both delicious and beautifully plated. My husband also ordered the Chiki Toro, which was probably the best dish of all. I'd go back to this spot in a heartbeat. Great staff, too. Nice to eat outside on the sidewalk if it's not too crowded with pedestrians.

Great staff and vibe but food that was so-so

By K_Traveler |

Lucky Robot located on Congress Street on the edge of downtown, sushi and fresh fridge displaying some fish. Great staff and decor. The food taste was so-so.

Awesome Lunch Stop!

By Mike R |

I am no guru on sushi, but this was the best I have ever had. My wife stopped in for lunch last week while visiting Austin. The restaurant has a cool look and vibe to it, so we had to check it out. To start, we tried out the Pork and Shrimp Dumplings. Amazing and highly recommended! We then bought a few sushi rolls, all of which were made perfect and were delicious. I was also very impressed by their emphasis on sustainability. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the South Congress area!

Brilliant as always

By floatingjimi |

Great tasting fresh vegetables and salad with a good mix of tasty meats and sauces. The service is great and the location is perfect

This robot got lucky!

By aeroblaine |

We enjoyed our visit to Lucky Robot. The food was very delicious and worth the price. I had plenty to eat and ended up with lunch for the next day. The seats need padding but that's not important. The quality is great and the location to downtown is perfect for date night. Awesome experience!

Okie a Dokie

By AirstreamR |

Ok, a little kitschish on my title, but pretty good. To be honest, if I had the mental capacity to the BYOB( build your own bowl on the front of the menu), I THINK they might have ranked a 5, but I didn't so they didn't. I settled for the Cali roll and the Philly roll and they were both VG, especially coupled with some Chardonnay. Next time, sans a two day government meeting, it's the BYOB

The food was fair

By utpsy |

We went to Lucky Robot on a Sunday evening. The service was attentive, and the server was friendly. The four of us at dinner are vegan. There were several vegan options on the menu. The food was good, but not great. The avocado sushi was bland. The vegan roll was fresh, but also lacked much flavor. The vegetables in the bowl were fresh. The sauce didn't pop. The tofu in the bowl was dry. Ultimately, we were disappointed. The restaurant came highly recommended, but did not live up to our expectations.

Best Edaname ever!!

By sueandmikeg |

We ate here Friday night and then went back on Sunday because it was so good. The edaname was the best. They are pet friendly--they brought a dog bowl and pitcher of water for our pups. The atmosphere is nice outside. The inside is small and have actual swings for some of the seating. Worth a try!

Deliciously creatively

By teddymalice |

Creative nigiri, nice drink menu. This is definitely a place to go for dinner with friends, the atmosphere is fun, the decor is very pop and colorful. Robot themes menu items are fun to read and eat;)

Not your typical Asian restaurant

By Will R |

Food was great, sushi udon bowls were delish! The bourbon sake was really good, Try It! A little pricey but everything we had was really good so it can be hard to argue the price. Seafood sushi, beef sushi, and vegetarian sushi were all tasty. The beef sushi was a lot smaller of a roll though.

Neat vibe, and that's it

By Spoonermomma1 |

We were looking to experience some good SoCo food but this was just okay. The atmosphere is very cool with the yellow swings for chairs. Service was good and friendly. Food was okay, it hit the spot. I had the make your own bowl with veggies, chicken and thai coconut curry. It was good, good portion size, price right. It didn't knock my socks off but I would go back to try something else for sure. I knocked off a point for the lipstick stain on my glass I saw after I had 2 refills. I used a straw. GROSS! They were very sorry. Offered me a water to go...

Our Most Favorite Asian Food

By Explorert3 |

We have been to Austin I've last year Summer 2016 and again last weekend March 2017. We found this place here on Trip Advisor. The atmosphere is beautiful the prices are wonderful and Most of all the Food is the Best! We love their Create your own Bowls. Tessa was super friendly. We would most Definitely Recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place for Asian Meal.

Great spot for lunch with an outside patio

By capecodrobin |

We stopped for lunch on our SoCo walk. Enjoyed the warm sun on their outside patio. Sushi was unique, fresh, delicious. Grace, our server, was friendly, well-informed and professional. Great meal.

A-mazing

By Victoria |

I wholeheartedly recommend Lucky Robot. I can't eat shellfish and the staff conscientiously took note of that and prepared everything in my dish separately. I had the most delicious 'build your own bowl' with chicken, veggies and udon and my husband loved his sushi. The Brussels sprouts with soy and lemongrass are the BEST - definitely try them! Service is great, but parking is a hassle being on South Congress.

Great sushi and sashimi

By Nick R |

I got that day's fresh sushi selection and the Bender Bending Rodriguez. Both were delicious. The drinks were good and the prices reasonable. My wife and I also sat on the porch swing, which was pretty cool.

Trendy Japanese Cuisine

By jy8s |

I have eaten at Lucky Robot many times for dinner and a few times for lunch. The food and service were always great. The rising sun, Kanpachi shrimp rematch and the robot ramen are a few of my go-to dishes and the sushi rolls are also excellent. They also carry Hitochino Japanese craft brew, which is a huge plus.

I loved this place!

By JetsettinDaisy |

First off, best service we had at any restaurant we visited in Austin! Service was helpful and friendly and answered all of our questions. The happy hour specials are awesome! We had a great variety and we are sushi snobs but we were really really happy with everything we tried! Our server's recommendations were delicious. Also- we loved the look of those swings!!!!

Amazing Food!

By Lauren H |

We ate at Lucky Robot on a Thursday at around 7. My mother and I ordered the pork and shrimp dumplings along with the Philly roll and the spider roll. The dumplings were the best we've have ever eaten. The sushi was very good as well. Will return when we come back to Austin

Sushi for the People

By mtnseastar |

Chose this place as it was in the proximity of the Austin Motel. Super yummy, fresh, creative rolls. Loved the funky interior. Friendly staff who know what to order.

Excellent sushi prepared by friendly, knowledgable chefs.

By Jim K |

I've eaten at Lucky Robot twice now during happy hour. I was impressed both times. It's refreshing to be presented with such high quality food at a very casual restaurant. Of the two appetizers I've had, my favorite was the suzuki ringu, which delivers great contrasts in flavor and texture while managing to feel completely cohesive. The crunch and sweetness of the apple pairs perfectly with the firmness of the bass and the saltiness of the sauce. The suzuki is also very high quality. The sake nashi is also very good. The smoked salmon, tomato, and goat cheese compliment each other well, and the pear and yucca crisps provide fun textural elements. This dish might be a tad difficult for some to eat because of the size of the yucca crisps, but it's fun to pick and choose which ingredients you want to pair in any given bite. It almost feels like eating a salad without greens. Aside from these appetizers, I've stuck with nigiri: chiki toro, aji, ikura, masago, pork belly, and spanish mackerel (a variety other than aji; I don't remember the word for it). Definitely try the chiki toro: it's a piece of big-eye tuna topped with scorched lardo and green onion. It tastes like a high quality piece of maguro with the inklings of an amazing grilled burger floating in the periphery. I don't think it's on the printed menu, but I can't recommend it enough. I've had the aji twice. The first time there were a few too many sesame seeds that overpowered the fish, but the second time around the aji was a perfect bite. The aji is from tsukiji, so there's no guarantee they'll have it, but it's worth trying if they do. For happy hour, you can't go wrong with two pieces of pork belly nigiri for $2. The radish and pickled cranberry compliment the pork well. The coolest aspect of this restaurant is that they sell fish from tsukiji market for less than $5 per bite. Apparently they don't always know exactly what they'll be getting, so there is a real opportunity to try some hard-to-find fish here. This is a better deal than the tsukiji selections at Uchi and Uchiko, which may have a greater variety of fish and complexity of flavor, but the quality of the fish itself at Lucky Robot is on par. If you eat here alone or as a couple, I recommend sitting at the sushi bar. The chefs are very friendly, knowledgable, and accommodating. They treated me as an equal in terms of our love for sushi. I was offered aji when it wasn't even one of the tsukiji selections of the day, for instance. Also, after speaking with one of the chefs (the owner, I believe?), I now know to hit up Musashi and Ippudo when I travel to Kyoto next month. If I had one minor criticism it would be that the waitresses, while very good overall, have not been entirely knowledgable about the menu and/or sushi. They make up for it with their excellent attitudes and cute Japanese-inspired outfits. Great sushi chefs, great value, great service, great location, great concept.

Very yummy

By barbarat2592016 |

Was there with kids. They enjoyed the food and enjoyed eating it while seating on a swing at the table! Waiters were nice. Good service. Were happy to customize dishes for my kids.

Amusing place with very good Japanese food

By Porcophile |

I don't know if the decor of this place is authentically Japanese-weird or just weird, but either way, it's fun to see a mural of the Texas state capital engulfed in tentacles. It's a nice place to eat, either inside (it's reasonably quiet) or, on a nice evening, outside. The service is attentive, personable, and efficient. The menu is extensive, and I can't speak to the sushi, but the construct-your-own noodle bowl is terrific (or go with the "schoolgirl" bowl, if you want your choices made for you). Whatever you do, start with the brussels sprouts appetizer, and maybe the spicy edamame as well. There's a selection of sake and sake-based drinks, and some good Japanese beer, as well.

Creative menu

The menu was fun and innovative. We liked some of the food, not all. Stay away from the dumplings. The skin was a bit undercooked and sauce is too sour. I would not return for other reasons, which I would rather not mention.

Great Service

By E1030RSfrankb |

We arrived on a Tuesday evening and was seated promptly. We told the waitress we needed something quick before a show at the Continental Club. She told us about the quick dishes. The dumplings were great. The ramen noodles were over cooked and a little bland. The sushi looked, we will return and try.

Loved sushi on swing

Really good ambience, loved sushi on swing. Good service and flavorful sushi. Forgot names of sushi, but the green on top was chili.

Average lunch; great service

By Lyn4509 |

The service was great here; fast and friendly. However, the selections for the Tsukiji Daily Sushi were average and tasted rather fishy: one piece each of mackerel, another similar mackerel like fish, and scallop. The lunch bento box was ok with slightly overcooked chicken served with sweet teriyaki sauce and rice, some pieces of veggie sushi (other choice was standard California roll), and salad. $11 for the bento box and $13 for 3 piece sushi. Overall, it suited my Asian preference and location in SoCo; however, the food was disappointing.

I wish I could give it a 5

By Paradise Lost |

The food was amazing! Our server was pretty good as well, but the front door was TERRIBLE. Not sure what her problem was, but acted this way for just about everyone that came in. Seemed unhappy to have to deal with them, hated her job, and was on her phone all the time. If you don't get her at the front door, you will love the place. Wish I could have got one of the swing benches!

Great, energetic server

Food was fantastic. Can't remember any of the names, but udon bowl was great, brussell sprouts to die for, and sushi nachos were fantastic. They were out of a few things which was a bummer, but a huge menu made it easy to reselect.

Fresh and fun!!

By Crissy D |

We visited Lucky Robot in July for a late lunch. We were seated quickly, and our server was very attentive. Let me just say, that this was probably the BEST and FRESHEST sushi/sashimi have ever eaten. The scallops were creamy, the yellowfin and salmon was absolutely delicious! Also, try the nachos. It's like a party in your mouth. So good!! Lucky Robot also had great wine! It really was a win! I think the BEST part of our experience was ordering our meal, 1 item at a time. We were able to enjoy South Congress, while dining, visiting and drinking wine. It was a great place to enjoy lunch!!

Food was good, but not great

By altbrewer |

Food was good, but not great considering the price. Kitchen is a little odd though - in our party of 4, each person’s meal was brought out at a different time, several minutes apart. They do not validate parking in the public lot so consider that in the price of your meal.

Delicious and unique

By serendipity613 |

Are here while at SXSW and this is one of the best meals I've had while traveling for business. The restaurant staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly, especially upon hearing I was from out of town. Fellow patrons at the bar noted they go to Lucky Robot once a week as they love it so much. Just a really fun vibe overall - colorful decor, 50s music. Everything was so delicious I ate a lot more than intended - Hamachi Serrano, a fun roll called sea-3po, hot rock (basically you get a plate of wagyu beef you cook yourself to your liking on a hot stone! Fun and delicious!). All the fish was incredibly fresh and paired with unique flavors. My only complaint was the graham cracker crust on the chai cheesecake felt a little bit dry, but that's being nit-picky - the fact that they put chai and cheesecake (two of my favorite things) together made me pretty happy. Now I want to plan my next trip to Austin so I can visit Lucky Robot again!

Excellent spot

Beautiful interior, whimsical and casual yet elegant. Kind and informed servers. Amazing cocktails and juices. Loved the classic Ramen. Ceviche was different than others I’ve had but delightful

Very good

Food was very good, especially the Brussels Sprouts! I got the Robot- Scramble for brunch and it was good. Loved the artwork in the wall.

Excellent experience , great food

By Paul O |

I was recently blown away by a fantastic meal at Lucky Robot. The Nikkei influenced food was fantastic from start to finish. We we're lucky enough to learn more about the menu from Chef Julio Florez who stopped by to see how we were enjoying the food. We came for some sushi and left with an amazing Japanes-Peruvian food experience. 👍👍

Great selection, fresh and flavoursome

By Jamietd |

Happened on this place - basic decor, tables etc. However the food was great - sat at the bar and could see the sushi being made to order. Thought I wasn’t hungry but each dish led me to wanting more. Pork and shrimp dumplings, scallops which you cook on a hot rock and seaweed salad with octopus. Being a solo dinner and Saturday night it was a little rushed at the end but no worries.

It’s okay, but top 5 really?

By ddubdub11 |

Look, it has a cool look. It has swings, it is hipsterish and on on the congress drag, but if we are just rating food this is maybe top 15. The price is too high for the little rolls they give you. I might as well go to Uchi or Uchiko for the price you are forking out for these rolls and the quality isn’t even close. A good middle ground is Kome.or even Midori, have I mentioned DK sushi on North Lamar? I live in Austin and I like me some sushi, this place is the disney of sushi in Austin. Sorry to disappoint.

Great environment

The food was amazing as well as the kindness of the staff ! The place also has a really modern vibe, the lights, the seats. The variety of the menu was quite big.

Good food and excellent atmosphere

Stopped here for a late lunch and was not disappointed. the service is excellent, all staff are super friendly and they offer good suggestions. i had two rolls and some spicy edamame. All very good. The iced Jasmine tea was a treat.

Try to Sit in the Swing Chair!

By ItalianTara |

I love Sushi... this restaurant was good, but the roll I had was nothing special - Voltron Roll - similar to a Rainbow Roll, nothing unique or interesting about it. Good, but that's it. The Miso Soup was good too... For my review I would suggest trying something more unique and to sit in the swing chair - that was fun, I especially recommend the one by the window for people watching. I hope this review helps you eat here but try something more exotic and creative!

Ealry afternoon visit

This place is pretty good good service but the food is a little slow coming out of the kitchen. Parking is a problem in this part of town so jump on a spot if you can.

Wonderful respite on a hot, August day

By susanmA519YM |

We were exploring S. Congress when it was time for lunch. We popped into Lucky Robot and had a delicious, refreshing lunch. We're picky about sushi and theirs was very good. I had the bento box with the vegan rolls which were very good. My husband's spider rolls had thin slices of Fuji apple -- different and tasty. The service was friendly. Some customers inside got to sit on porch swings, something we've never seen before. This is definitely a good place!

Delightful and delicious.

By Keloser |

Loved this lunch experience! The brussel sprouts flash fried with lemon grass soy was wonderfully yummy. Nice selection of dumplings and bowls you can create. Future trips I will try to eat here. Simply delightful.

Great service, food only so-so

By jwjg |

We had a great night here mainly thanks to very attentive and friendly service. The food was OK but not as exciting and flavourful as Japanese food can be when very good.

Fresh, hot and tasty

By 911bella |

We had 'build your own bowl' and the food arrived hot from the wok, lots of fresh vegetables and great noodles. Judging from how busy it was the food came quickly. ideal to pop to Amy's for ice cream next door for dessert

Hira Hira love

By Mica |

Enjoyed my time here. The Hira Hira roll was delicious, the miso was ok, and the ramen was tasty. Only complaint is that they forgot one of the items we ordered and brought out food as it was ready vs. bringing everyone’s food out together. Overall good experience. I would go back for that Hira Hira.

Great food!

By StaceyjC77 |

We came here for a special date night to celebrate our anniversary! Ben was our server and he was really great in giving us the scoop on food. He's one of those servers that if you are adventurous, you can let him do the deciding! The menu is fantastic! Things you should absolutely get: crispy barbacoa dumplings (insane), king sakura, spring cebiche, R2D2, transformer and sea-3PO! The food was really good. Not so good were the oysters, just not to our taste so I would skip those next time. The drink menu is very good, the wine list is short but everything on it is top notch. We will be back!

Hipster Kona Grill

By bookofadventures |

We tried this place today for the first time after living down the street from it for years. It seems I was avoiding it for a reason and didn't know it. The food here was no better than what you get at Kona Grill. At least with Kona, you can go during one of their many happy hours and not get charged for the "funky" atmosphere. We tried the Hot Rock (scallop), Tiger Eye, Robot Tuna, and The Transformer. None of it was bad but nothing stood out either. Lucky Robot is average sushi hiding behind the hip South Congress location and funky decor. Austin has a lot of good sushi places. I would highly recommend going to one of those instead.

Nice choice for lunch!

By Sweetmelissa73 |

Besides the waitress having an unnecessary attitude from the get-go for no reason at all (we were a big friendly bunch) food was fresh and tasty and the quirky atmosphere was a nice change from all the outdoor food truck eating we had been doing. There was a bench swing at the table! Fun! Except when it came time to eat it was hard to keep it stable.

A quick meal with great service

By Mimora |

The sushi and bowls were terrific, but what's most impressive is the service here. Everyone was outstanding!

Excellent Food! WOW factor!

By Tennismum916 |

I LOVED the food here! I am not a huge fan of Japanese style food but I went because the group I was with wanted to try Lucky Robot. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious our lunch was! Everything is freshly prepared and I think they get all their veggies local. We sat at the cafe counter and were entertained by the chef! It was interesting watching them prepare the sushi and other dishes. I had the chicken teriyaki bowl with noodles! LOVED IT! Simply DELISH!

On vacation, and I ate here twice

By BandB40 |

I can’t say enough good things. Just come to Lucky Robot and eat anything and you will be happy. I am visiting Austin and found Lucky Robot while riding a scooter on Congress Street. The atmosphere is good and it’s kind of crowded, but I was able to get a bar seat dining solo. Huge sake selection so I asked and the waiter walked me through them in a very easy way. Not condescending but clearly and with full explanation. I eat sushi a lot. A lot. But there are so many things here that I haven’t had. For example, I had to ask the difference between the kinds of uni on the menu. And the answer made sense. Oh, the team behind the sushi bar is really friendly and their rolls fit in your mouth - not those rolls that only Julia Roberts can eat. Just go. It’s worth it.

Ok, it was a five star experience---

By Eric M |

I just cannot give five stars very often...this place serves delicious food---the surroundings are ok, but probably took the other star away. We sat at the sushi bar and were very well taken care of. The chefs were communicative and thorough. They also made some very tasty sushi! When they tell you about this one sushi dish, DO NOT SAY NO. It's called CHIKI TORO...it is big eye tuna with a thin salt and lime seasoned lardo slice on top. It's superb. Fun place. Enjoy!
