Shadow of it’s former self.

By SDBEC1 |

What has happened to the Lucky’s of old? Appetisers (cauliflower crisps and fried mushrooms) were stodgy on the outside and too hard to eat on the inside. Cheese Sandwich was just tiny. Rest of the order was, well, plain average. Expensive for what it was.

Pleaseant surprise!!!

By mgenard |

Had some extra time on Sunday just before lunch and decided to get something to eat. Stumbled across Luckys Café and was pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and our server was great!!! We will go back.

Decent lunch spot

Overall good food I would recommend the club sandwich as it was very good. The cream corn was top notch. Very good service with the food being served quickly.

Great Neighborhood Cafe/Diner

By Dana W |

Friendly, comfortable atmosphere. A place where you can dine alone without feeling odd, or uncomfortable. i come here often, alone or with friends. Breakfast is served all day. Big plates, tasty options. but, don't ignore the blackboard specials, the chicken fried steak, or chicken is always good. (you can save calories by substituting other vegetables for the potatoes). there are some traditional down home items they just don't put on the menu, but if you want a BLT, it's yours. same thing with Rice/Beans (pintos or black), cabbage, etc.

Favorite Sunday Brunch

By Zain M |

Amazing brunch! The best French toasts and great om letters. Really good service. Worth the wait in line! A must try in uptown!

What a great diner!!!!!

By Jack M |

Had breakfast at Luck’y on Oaklawn on January 2nd, I love this place. It's a diner that has been in the Oaklawn area for years and it’s still as good as the last time I ate there years ago. I had the Bird Benedict which was eggs and fried windy meadows family farm boneless chicken breast, melted shallots on a corn muffin with tabasco® hollandaise and breakfast potatoes. The fired chicken was wonderful. Sound strange for breakfast, but it was great. Wife and daughter got the build your own omelet and they loved it. Service is great, price are reasonable, always busy but well worth the trip.

When you don’t want to dine

By Frank N |

If you just want to eat without a dining “experience “ this is a great place for comfort food. Attentive friendly service, an extensive menu and reasonable prices will fill your tummy and put a smile on your face The biscuits were delicious, the hamburger was hot and juicy No room for dessert

Food is good service...not so much.

By rherb27 |

Nice place, good menu and one of the few places you can get breakfast all day. I ordered the fish and chips it's not worth the money I received 2 pieces of fish one split in half to make 3. And the fries were cold. My friend ordered breakfast pancakes and bacon. His was perfect. He did however order an orange juice and got a mixed drink...who knows. There were only two servers and the place was full so I guess we were lucky to get anything.

Excellent Breakfast

By ddmullis |

No doubt a true diner where they offer breakfast for everyone. From omelette to burgers to French toast and everything in between. Be sure to enjoy the country potatoes as they are fantastic The service was outstanding

Great Breakfast place

Breakfast ALL Day

By 2stepper1954 |

Breakfast all day at Lucky's Local Farm to Table...my kinda place! My partner had pot roast hash topped with two eggs. Nice big chunks of pot roast and their fired potatoes plus cheese...really more like a stew. Very good. My omelet was well cooked and I was able to get Swiss cheese even though it wasn't on the menu. Most ingredients are local. Some gluten free, some vegetarian. Gluten free pancakes but not bread. Average prices. Would go again.

A Good Place for Comfort Food

By keepmovin63 |

We had an early dinner at Lucky's at the recommendation of a Dallas resident who lives nearby. The waitstaff were very accommodating and friendly. The appetizer biscuits were delicious! My wife had barbecue pork chops which she loved. I took the lemon pepper grilled chicken which was also very good. The veggies served with both dinners were yummy. The place was busy but not too noisy and things seemed to run smoothly. Prices were okay for the location. We will return to Lucky's.

Fresh Local Food

Tim & Isaiah make this place a blast. They have great food that's fresh from local farmers. It's a neat hangout and great place to meet nice people. Wonderful diner atmosphere!

Best Breakfast in Town & Great People Watching

By Collene G |

Lucky's is a no nonsense truck stop sort of place with great breakfasts. Eclectic atmosphere. The BEST coffee, too. If you like people watching, this is THE place to be for breakfast. Recently spotted were an NFL Team Owner, numerous opera singers, TV Producers, and the "regulars" who resemble The Village People. The bar opens around noon and is usually packed on weekends - lotsa Bloody Mary's and champagne cocktail served up.. Although there's not the interesting (and sometimes bizarre) parade of people after breakfast, the lunch & dinner are good: huge servings. Vegetable sides are like mom's home cooking - be sure to try the fried okra! Cakes are delicious - triple chocolate and red velvet! Staff are great - most have been there 10+ years. Fast service, reasonable to low prices, consistently good food..

Ehhhhh not that good

By Tommy M |

Not how I would expect a $7 slice of cake to be served and when I said something it was brushed off. Burnt toast, tasteless pot roast hash, over dry eggs instead of over hard and not one refill of my water. Friendliness doesn't equate to great service or because a place is buzzing with customer chatter.

Favorite diner food

By TXMARTINS |

Go for some southern comfort here and grab some fresh cornbread and biscuits. You can get great chicken fried steak or a great vegetable plate - I recommend the spinach casserole, baked squash casserole and fried okra.

Great dive breakfast

By Suzanidoo |

My favorite place for greasy spoon breakfast. We love coming here on the weekend but have visited during the week as well and it's just as great. A neighborhood gem for sure.

Great brunch spot!

By Kevin |

This is a Dallas staple - the crew / staff there is incredibly kind and very attentive. What I like most about this place is that the portions are generous, priced very reasonably, and the food is home cooking delicious! If you ask for milk with your coffee, you get a glass of milk not a tiny cup of it, so it's very home-style, delicious and fast. Must try the muffins and corn bread...absolutely delightful. From the experience, to the price, to the friendly staff - this place gets 5* and a must try :-)

Hang on to your husband!

By Brenda G |

Good breakfast! But, you better hang-on tight to your husband! Our server was more than friendly - especially to my husband! He all but sat in his lap in our booth while chatting intently with him... We still laugh about our experience! Every time we're in Dallas, I can't help but ask my husband if he feels like "getting Lucky"!

Super friendly - delicious food

By Vanessa V |

We checked out of our hotel and were looking for a place for brunch on the same day as the Dallas Marathon. So we did expect places to be busy. The first place we went to was a madhouse and we were offered a table outside. In front of the parking lot. With no flowers or trees. We looked at each other and said, is this really where we want to have our last meal in Dallas for this trip? NO! So we went to Lucky's which I found on Tripadvisor of course. What a difference! Yes it was busy but we were greeted with a smile and told that they had complimentary coffee at the bar unless we wanted an adult beverage. Everyone was smiling and laughing. It was like night and day compared to our first choice. We were seated without much waiting. Super friendly waitress and the food was delicious. I had a bagel with pastrami and egg with country potatoes and it was really good. Like I said - just as busy as the other place but the atmosphere was welcoming rather than rushed. It makes a difference. As if the unspoken sentiment was yes we're busy, yes you may have to wait for a table, but isn't it fun to be here? YES IT WAS!

Don't pass this by

By Becki S |

Late lunch early dinner we had choice of seating. Everything was fresh. Started with fresh biscuits and cornbread. Beer battered green beans with a yummy chipotle dipping sauce could have filled me up. So good. Ordered veggie plate and was delighted with generous fresh portions. Husband had blackened catfish with some super secret ingredient tarter sauce that was amazing. Too full for dessert as tempting as it all sounded. My husband called if happy food. Cute place. Great service.

decent breakfast - huge portions.

My Favorite

By Tom F |

I ate here twice during my short trip to Dallas. I love the meatloaf at this restaurant. This is an old Dallas hang-out. Everything on the menu is good. Comfort food.

open late, decent food

By BigRickDallas_TX |

I don't eat there often but have never had a bad meal, OK service, open a little later than most places in Oaklawn

Great Experience!

By Amy G |

I went with friends to Lucky's for brunch....biscuits, crispy bacon, perfectly cooked eggs, and never ending coffee! The waiter treated us like family and we were right at home. The food was top notch. We had a fun, relaxing time - no rush, just enjoy the atmosphere, food and company. The perfect diner experience.

Several great meals at this Restaurant

By nickinhull |

Me my partner and friends came to this restaurant on several occasions during a two week stay in Dallas recently. Every time we were met by friendly staff the menu is varied it;s set out like a traditional diner. The food is great we tried the whole menu i think between us all. Very reasonably priced.

Pleasantly surprised!

By italianice57 |

While visiting Dallas, my son and daughter-in-law treated me to lunch at this café. And a treat it was! I ordered the chicken fried chicken, french fries and roasted brussels sprouts. Everything tasted fantastic! If I had one critique, it would be that the chicken breast was thin which Means you’re eating a lot of breading, which was very tasty though. drinks were a very good size and price. Love this place!

quick brunch good value

By maunder2010 |

For 25 USD including 2 bloody Marys what's not to like, corned beef with 2 perfect eggs. Friendly staff and all served in double time. Not fancy but fun

Great server the middle aged white guy.

Best place ever!!

By Hannah O’Gara |

My friends and I visit Luckys quite often for a pick-me-up. We love this place. The staff is wonderful and kind. The food is good every time and the vibes are even better. Seriously cannot recommend enough

Excellent breakfast spot!

By Austin K |

LOVED the biscuits!! This place was great; I love that it is farm to table but still retains a classic diner-ish casual charm. An excellent place to eat some breakfast, read the news, and get a start to your day. I really enjoyed the pot roast hash and my partner equally enjoyed his enchiladas.

Lucky strike

By michellek277 |

Love the breakfast tacos. If you have room for one more thing to eat, get one fresh biscuit. This may be the next Lucky's special.

Great Little spot for breakfast

By Joe Q |

We have family that lives in the Oaklawn section of Dallas and one of our favorite places that we go to breakfast is Lucky's Cafe. The service is always good at Lucky's and we never have to wait for a table. The atmosphere is very light as you will see people reading the paper to working on their laptops to families having breakfast together. As for a few items that I do enjoy on the menu, I do like their grits and porkchop and eggs breakfast special. Also, the way they prepare the bacon at lucky's is some of the best around. All in all, its a nice little spot for breakfast if you are in the neighborhood!

Good food.

Lucky's Elevates the Greasy Spoon to a High Art Form

By POBOX99 |

Lucky's is THE place to go in Dallas for a fun Saturday or Sunday breakfast experience. The place is jumping and was rocked with laughter and the sounds of people having a great time. With an old fashioned diner vibe and waiters in shorts or jeans, you get the feeling you're dining with friends. There's a BIG menu, so have fun picking and choosing. Its all good!

Great Food & Service

By DeepBlueDives |

Lucky's has been an establishment in the Oak Lawn area for many years. The decor has taken a recent upgrade, but a bit of the old remains. I think it lost a lot of character, and many of the menu items have been trimmed. But what you come for is the food. Large portions, fast and friendly service. Don't be afraid to ask for an old favorite that is no longer on the menu.

Great breakfast venue

By Conrad M |

We have breakfast their every time we are in Dallas. They can have a line on Sunday mornings, but turnover is quick. Standard breakfast, lunch and dinner fare. I rate this one 3 because it is a modest cafe not fine dining. Good value for the money.

Fun casual dining

By dallasdiva85 |

One of the greats in the Oak Lawn Area, can't beat Lucky's for breakfast. Very casual atmosphere and great comfort good.

Great Place to Eat

By txcarguy |

We had breakfast here after church and everything was wonderful. The omelette was outstanding and the biscuits and rolls were good also. We had coffee and it was first class as well. While there was a little wait, the service was very prompt and friendly. Definitely will return when I am in the area again.

Great breakfast!

By Agent O |

This restaurant was recommended by a family member that lives in Dallas. We decided to try it and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was nice and the employees really took care of us. We all had breakfast dishes and they were all amazing. If you are in Dallas, stop by. You won't be disappointed.

Surprisingly good food

By Lin0515 |

I was staying at the Hilton Anatole with no car, and I ordered dinner from Lucky's through a delivery service: chicken fried steak with two sides, plus an order of corn muffins. Everything arrived hot and was delicious. Price/value was great. I'll definitely patronize Lucky's whenever I'm in this part of Dallas.

Great Sunday Brunch

By Bill S |

Luckys is a Dallas institution for Sunday Brunch. My fave is the Mexican Burritto. Loads of eggs (or whites) and a plethora of sides. Crowd is eclectic mix of families, yuppies, cowboys (and girls) and folks from the nearby Gayborhood. Not to missed!

good breakfast, friendly staff, nice location

By michaelluna |

Stopped for breakfast. I've dined here before. Same friendly staff. Not busy so I was able to quickly get a table. Free WiFi. One of those places where folks bring their children. Good coffee. Eggs & bacon were cooked to order. Nice big windows so there was plenty of light to read by. I never felt rushed. I think they have a liquor license. I spied one person drinking a mimosa. Last time I dined here was with friends. We all enjoyed it. I think it does get crowded during the breakfast rush. Note a lot of parking as this is a busy area. I will dine here again.

OK Breakfast

OK Breakfast

James our server

By Hidrfoot01 |

A neighborhood diner that has been serving consistent food for years. Of all the servers experienced through the years James is amazing. Has a great memory and is all about friendly attentive service. He anticipates your moves without being overbearing and always adds sunshine to our visits. I would take him as an example of excellence in serving to any restaurant.

Good food and service but pricey.

By Jai A |

Work in building across the street and had heard good things. Lucky's is a small corner diner with a bar in Uptown, near a very busy intersection (Oak Lawn & Lemmon). Service was friendly and welcoming. I had breakfast, which is served all day, and it was delicious. It was just me and my meal came to $25 for French toast, bacon, eggs, and a cup of tea. Not something I can really afford to do on a regular basis but somewhat expected for the area. Parking is limited and the area is heavy traffic. Inside is cozy but rather snug, so wheelchair accessibility is quite limited (barely able to maneuver) but I'm sure the establishment would try to be accommodating.

Great food, service, people watching

By jpatter1 |

Popped in here for dessert and coffee. German chocolate cake was wonderful. Light. Not too sweet. Ice cream sundae was terrific. Hot fudge separate, toasted pecans separate. Only Blue Bell would have made it better. Friendly prompt service too.

More than LUCKY

By TobyBlades |

This is a GREAT Place to meet people, to have Brunch, Breakfast, Lunch! Wonderful feel to this establishment. Nice Menu, I had a lot of choices as a vegetarian. This is a place that one of our Good Friends From Dallas took us, that he Loves. and we can see why. The Meal was great, the service was Great, if we lived in Dallas this would be a regular!

Great!

By Ren P |

We had a great meal here! Such a cute place. The grilled cheese was so good. They were super accommodating to vegetarian needs.

Go for brunch

By Anne M |

This is one of the few classic diners in Dallas that gets it right. The menu has a selection of meal choices but you can also order everything a la carte which is how I prefer to have breakfast. During brunch Lucky's is always busy but the do a great job of keeping the crowd moving and the staff is friendly while providing great service. The main reason I didn't rate the place "excellent" is because the coffee tastes bad, which I find to be unacceptable. Even 7-11 can serve a decent cup of coffee, why can't they get it right at Lucky's? However, if you bring your own coffee with you they have no problem with it so the bad coffee is not a deal breaker. Finally, while Lucky's serves top natch breakfast and brunch food, the times I've visited for dinner i was not impressed with the food, and a little disappointed. Over all, I love Lucky's, it's a classic Dallas diner and overall a happy place to be.

Little Gem

By LLJ95 |

The service is EXACTLY what I expect from high end restaurants... how refreshing to have that kind of service at brunch in a little cafe. We enjoyed it so much we went back for brunch a second time and highly recommend this to anyone who likes delish brunch food, great service, and no fuss atmosphere.

Favorite restaurant in Dallas for Saturday breakfast.

By Kyle Talkington |

Have eaten here for at least 15 years. It's good home cookin' away from home.

Same great place

By JDH1954 |

Haven't been to Lucky's for about two years. They have revamped the menu and the interior a bit, but it is the same great place with the same great food. The waiter was friendly and helpful. Fresh squeezed orange juice was wonderful. David no longer greets you at the door, missed him, but glad the majority of the old place is still the same!!!

Breakfast - Great People

By Bikerbear01 |

Chicken Fried Pork Chops with Gravy....yum yum. I have been going to restaurant for years...Some faces have changed but the normal people are still here. Ask for James, he's the best...And if the greeter David is there...look out he's a hand full of fried chicken in dress cloths

A GEM!!!!

By KylesGal |

We were heading to a different spot but saw this one on the way and decided to try it. Cool diner vibe and excellent, friendly staff. Food was really fresh and portions were large. We ate both dinner and breakfast items and both were excellent. Desserts come from the bakery next door and are fabulous! This will be one of our return spots next time we are in town.

Good spot for Breakfast

By Dallastraveler49 |

Lucky’s is an excellent breakfast location in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas. The food is very good and the staff is very attentive. My wife and I both had an omlett for breakfast. It was hardy and well prepared. My friends had the Migas and found them excellent. The restaurant is more like a diner from the 50’s and is friendly and comfortable.

Always a great meal!

By Campbell P |

Service is great and staff is always friendly. Brie as the bartender is always cheerful and Tim as manager is very nice.

We LOVED this diner!

By KathyPTC |

Lucky's is a special place with a low-key and fun atmosphere. We had breakfast twice here while in Dallas! The staff is very friendly and the food is delish--- I tried to resist the biscuits but alas..... I caved. SO GOOD!! The food is more upscale and fresh than in a traditional diner. You won't be disappointed.

An institution worth visiting

By Ray S |

We were looking for a late dinner and our son, a Dallas resident, suggested this spot which is somewhat like an old diner full of local diners. They offer a daily special, along with a blackboard list of seafood. I opted for the fish and chips. I would rate the dish as average with two medium size pieces of fried cod. You have a choice of sides and I chose the sweet potato fries. My wife chose a cheeseburger which she rated as terrific. They offer a nice selection of beer and wine. Our server was outstanding. Parking is somewhat limited. They are busy, so be prepared to wait, but worth it. Southern comfort food in a diner atmosphere.

Breakfast was very good

By jlm456 |

We sat at a booth in the back of the restaurant. The service was excellent and the food very tasty. I enjoyed the grilled cheese with bacon and sliced tomatoes. The Almost healthy blueberry pancakes were also a big hit. There coffee was very good.

loved breakfast!!! what a great discovery

By Lala |

Had breakfast there last weekend and really enjoyed it. Omelets are really, really tasty. Can't go wrong with that choice. And of course, the atmosphere is charming...good service, too!! I was pretty impressed with this diner. Nice discovery for a Sunday morning.

Guess I'll Just Settle for This Place

By XManNL |

I was HUNGRY and trying to figure out where to eat, when I drove by this place. Since it wasn't crowded, and parking was easy, i went in. NOT expecting much at all. Was delighted with everything that happened after. I had chicken fried chicken (which is NOT "fried chicken") and it hit the spot! On the side I order, per the waitress's suggestion, the green beans. Also had the sauteed sweet potatoes. VERY YUMMY! I scarfed it all down and enjoyed it very much. This isn't gourmet. But it's good food. As i'm used to Seattle prices, I thought my meal here was cheap. (Seeing other people commenting on how expensive it is).

Why the crowds???

By Deborealtor |

Service was a bit surly, and the food was pretty bad. The pancakes were truly horrible. We wondered if we had received the gluten free ones by mistake.

Good lunch joint. I go...

By Talitha149411 |

Good lunch joint. I go there for work.

Great breakfast and lunch

By Lynne A |

This is like a deli breakfast place. Good food, plentiful serving, hot coffee and a real hearty breakfast and great sandwiches. Anything you order will be to your liking!!

Excellent, wonderful, breakfast place

By Mohsman |

My wife, two friends and I ate at Lucky's on a Sunday morning and had an excellent experience. This is a traditional, old-school, high-quality diner type place with excellent service, food, atmosphere, and vibe. All of our breakfasts were excellent and were served promptly by well-trained staff. I would strongly suggest you arrive before 9AM, at least on a Sunday. We arrived at 8:45 AM and there were empty tables. My 9:00 AM all tables were taken, and by 9:30 AM there were at least two dozen people waiting. I am confident this will become one our favorite places for breakfast and look forward to returning.

Birthday Breakfast

By Robert T |

Friendly staff, good coffee. Different area of Dallas, not all about glitz and money as the normal Dallas scene. Sorry, we both had the chicken fried steak breakfast. 2 eggs, potatoes and chicken fried steak. The chicken fried steak is probably one the 'Best' I have every had and I have had a few over the years. Bloody Mary's were well worth $5 Definitely will a retry to test their Migas out

Their pre-fab meatloaf made me sick for 3 days...

By HonestPearl |

I don't know about the other dishes, but I ordered meatloaf on 7/6/10 and got 2 pre-fab meat patties (not fresh at all) covered with tomato sauce. I ate about 3 bites (it wasn't that good) and my body started shutting down immediately. I got super tired, went home and slept for hours, got up, threw up, slept some more...etc. It's taken me 3 days to get that stuff out of my system. I wouldn't eat any meat they serve there, the vegetables seem ok, but I don't recommend Lucky's.

How a Diner Should Be

By mrg128 |

This is what a diner should always be like. Bustling yet efficient, the place hums with activity but they get it all done right. Servers are outstanding and obvious veterans of the restaurant. Lots of tough choices on the menu but all are delicious. The coffee comes regularly and without your needing to ask. Pre-meal biscuits are just fantastic. A wonderful place for breakfast or brunch.

Awesome food

By JS Traveler |

Been there several times. Awesome food, chicken fried chicken, pot roast, sleazy cheesy but add chicken to yet. Love it. Parking is a pain though. Had to park down the street. Bummer.

Retro cafe

By Mark H |

We’ve been by Lucky’s many times but have never stopped in. We decided to drop in for brunch. The place was packed but we only had to wait about 15 min to get a table. The waiter gave us some recommendations and I went with an omelette. The food came quickly and everything was really good. We had a great experience and will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

Such Potential that is wasted by bad culinary staff

By Lynn W |

After several visits the food is never consistent in quality standards and if you complain it seems to fall on deaf ears of the wait staff.

Excellent Food!

By Brooke L |

It's a great meal -- regardless of what you order -- so expect a crowd. There is something on the menu to please every member of your party. Parking is a hassle but worth it.

Home cooking type menu, friendly staff

By Passport for Adventure |

Stopped in with the family, and enjoyed our meal. Good selection of home cooking items, we had chicken n waffles, fish and chips, and chicken fried steak, with deviled egg apps! Very good and friendly staff. Like stepping back in time!

Slightly revised menu, same wonderful food

By Cello C |

I frequented Luckys for several years in the '90s and have since moved from Dallas. On a recent visit to Dallas I was apprehensive after reading reviews about the new menu at Lucky's - why fix something that isn't broken? Lucky's is a local institution with a loyal base of devoted customers (even many of the staff have worked there for over a decade). In this kind of situation, change is often feared, intensely! I thought the food was amazing, just as I remembered it to be. I had the migas and my husband had the chicken fried steak. The biscuits were great, the gravy delicious. In my opinion, the only people who will be disappointed in this change in menu are the people who may have developed a very particular expectation about how Lucky's food should taste. But that doesn't mean that the change is actually bad (and again, I didn't even notice a change at all in what I ordered!). For most of us, Lucky's is starting from such a wonderful and solid culinary base that you would never know the difference.

What a great breakfast surprise!

By okiedawg |

My wife and I met my old college buddy at Lucky's for breakfast. It was awesome! The service was great. My friend had a traditional breakfast. I ordered the Bird Benedict and my wife had the breakfast tacos. The Bird Benedict rocked the house! I can't wait to go back and try it again. My wife and college friend really loved there breakfast as well.

Enjoyable meal

By cclakeman |

Had a nice meal at this long time Dallas restaurant. Hadn't been there for at least 12 years. Food was good except for Broccoli/rice casserole. Rice was not cooked enough and was hard. Everything else was great. Atmosphere was good with lively background music.

Disappointed in New Menu

By C I |

I'm have to agree with others who were disappointed with the new Lucky's menu. How I used to look forward to visiting when I was in Dallas! I miss the cornbread and biscuits that came with breakfast! The food was okay, but for the price it should impress, as it used to. All three of us thought it was just okay. Still love the wait staff and atmosphere. Miss the specials and fresh choices they used to have on the board. A shame, because in Dallas it is competing with some great breakfast places, where I will be next time I am in town.

My 2nd Time - Not Good

By XManNL |

Pretty much anything that could have been bad was bad, from the lack of service (took forever to be seated, then waited on, then get my food, as compared to people who were seated just ahead of me or after me) and the food was bad. I sent away my first meal of Pot Roast. It was a beef stew rather than pot roast. That would have been OK except the meat was VERY tough and the potatoes weren't even cooked. On the up side, the manager did apologize and pick up the tab. And my 2nd choice came out in about 3 minutes, and the chicken fried chicken was fine.

very good chicken fried...

By Jay D |

very good chicken fried steak.

Female waitstaff a little catty, could be friendlier to females in party

By Amandaren |

Food was pleasant, timeliness between ordering and being served was fair, overall a pleasant place to eat, could use better female waitstaff though, the lady we got had no interest in customer service.

Reliable Good

By Clifton B |

This is a neighborhood institution. Food is reliably good, served up quickly by friendly servers. Saturday and Sunday mornings are crowded. Expect poor parking and a bit of a wait.

Farm to table amazingness

By Deborah L |

Exactly what you want! Farm to table amazingness. Everything was supremely tasty and our server, James was attentive and the best.

Highway type restaurant with more than acceptable food and good prices

By Francisco Herna... C |

This restaurant is an American roadside restaurant that has breakfast dishes all day and others that are not bad, such as a breaded steak with two accompanying sauces and two additions that can be a vegetable soup and a salad. Very complete and does not reach $17

Quick friendly service

By JFG_JRG |

We have had breakfast at this diner several times over the last 3 or 4 years. Always enjoy the eclectic crowd and servers. It can be crowded so best to arrive before 8:30, but extremely efficient in handling the crowd. Omelets are generously sized. Popular with locals primarily.

I've had better without the wait

By glb310 |

Lucky’s is yet another place to see and be seen. I thought the service was good but the 30 minute wait, lack of parking, and food taste reminiscent of IHOP made me ill. Also, it’s way overpriced for the quantity and quality you receive. The person with me who raved about it beforehand mentioned it was not as good as his last visit. Obviously I won’t be back.

Great Breakfast, Friendly Staff!

By Fabien P |

Stopped during a business trip and was pleasantly surprised! Very good diner , fast and friendly! Will visit again!

Sunday Breakfast

By Bill M |

We have not been to Lucky's in month's and has always been a favorite. We were surprised to see the new menu/format to Lucky's Local that included items from local farmers and some organic items as well. Nothing wrong with any of the changes I simply miss some of my old breakfast favorites. Vera's Veggie Taco's no longer come with black beans, so I am getting less for and paying a little more because of the changes. With all of that said, Lucky's is still outstanding. Awesome service, friendly people, and great food. I will just need to get out of my old ways and find a new menu item that I love. I still highly recommend Lucky's.

Not what it used to be...

By AmieLee80 |

Lucky’s just isn’t the same any more. The meatloaf is no longer the delicious grilled slices. The cornbread muffins are like hockey pucks, but the biscuits were really good. My food was kinda “meh”, but my husband had the chicken tenders which were great. I wouldn’t mind paying the new prices, if the food was still consistently good. Our server was super nice and attentive but another employee was not very nice to me when I asked if I could take a condiment off the table where he was rolling silverware. I don’t know, maybe he was having a bad day, but he gave me a couple of dirty looks before we left. My husband and I have been going there for about 8 years, but lately…let’s just say, I don’t feel as welcome anymore, as a couple. We live far 30 miles away, but we probably won’t be making this trek anymore.

Just a fine place to eat!!

By Jack M |

Had lunch with my daughter, and she recommended Lucky’s Café at Oaklawn and Bowser Ave. It has been years since I ate there, and over the years I think that it’s gotten better. Lucky’s Café is a combination of an old dinner with the atmosphere of a café that serves mostly comfort home cookin. You’re greeted with a smile and good service is maintained throughout the meal. I ordered a chicken fried steak sandwich while my daughter ordered a breakfast which is served throughout the day. The chicken fried steak was freshly made, not frozen and delicious. You are not rushed and if you can tell by the people that come in that this is a neighborhood dinner that the community comes to meet and eat. This is a place you want to try out.

The diner you see in the movies

By brunodarochaazevedo |

Luckys Cafe is my Saturday breakfast/brunch/lunch spot. The place is an old school dinner, with lots of history! The staff is always super nice - and the food delicious. The omelettes are great (any combination you may make). The blood Mary's are delicious - and big! The menu explains everything, from the origin of the meat, eggs and veggies and also they mark what is gluten-free or vegetarian. It does get busy if you try on the weekends 11am-1pm, if you try going after or before that time is quite easy to get seated. Parking can be tricky sometimes. Strongly recommended!

Great food, service & price

By Gary A |

Go for brunch on Saturday or Sunday. Eclectic crowd, great for people watching, but the food is the main attraction. Be prepared to wait for a table, but the food is worth the wait. Large portions. The biscuits are dense but tasty and the country potatoes could be a meal all by themselves. Parking can be a challenge during the busiest hours. And be sure to check the blackboard for daily specials! The mimosas were tempting. Maybe next time...

We stumbled upon this jewel by accident. Friendly accomodating service, wonderful food, and comfortable atmosphere makes this restaurant a hit. Can't wait to return and try breakfast which is what they are known for.

Lucky to find a parking space!

By Sherry H |

This restaurant is very popular for breakfast and we had to circle the block a few times before parking on a side street, even at 10:30 on a Friday. We had a short wait for a table, but it was worth it. The service was fast and efficient and our food arrived quickly. All four of us cleaned our plates.

Grrrrreat Lunch and Breakfast Venue

Just a few blocks walk up from the Melrose Warwick Hotel, this gem of a café-diner-restaurant combination offers all the traditional food groups - chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken on waffles, biscuits, corn bread, meat loaf, great mashed potatoes, fries and onion rings. The Warwick did not include this restaurant on its list of nearby dining establishments, but it should definitely include Lucky's. The waitress is wonderful!

Omletts are awesome, very good biscuits with Honey. Will try the banana pancake's next Visit, decor is retro 1950, black leatherette booths, lots of chrome.

I loved Lucky’s - was in Dallas and based on a recommendation from a friend in NJ - we went. Quick walk from our hotel . Food was delicious and the service was great!!

Luckys Cafe- amazing comfort food!

By Julie W |

Luckys Cafe is a great diner serving up delicious comfort food. I tried the omelette which was wonderful, but surprisingly, the grits are what I crave going back for now. I’m not sure what they put in them, but they are the best I’ve ever had anywhere. Love, Love, Love!

Boy did we get lucky!

By Greg T |

As out-of-towners unfamiliar with the area, we were headed for a safe, boring chain deli when we stumbled on Lucky's Diner. Intrigued, we decided to go in and decide. As we approached the front door, we noticed all the accolades from Trip Advisor, Zagats, etc which validated our decision. Upon entry, we instantly agreed this was our place. Casual and fun, Lucky's delivers great food and great service at reasonable prices! We had the chicken fried steak and club sandwich, and both were wonderful - fresh ingredients, generous portions - and you must try the fries (I recommend them dipped in honey mustard). Can't wait to come back- I'm getting the blackened Tilapia...

Loved this diner

By mshbnyehud |

Luckys is a throwback in time. A wonderful diner setting with friendliness and great service. I hosted a group of 5 persons for breakfast, and we all enjoyed our meals. In particular, I enjoyed the Garden Hash (sunny side up) which was served piping hot, and very tasty. Our server Jim was so accomodating and helpful. One of my friends had the Banana Pancakes which looked absolutely fabulous, but a very large portion. Easy to split for 2 persons. She loved it but could only finish half. Can't wait to return and try some of the other items on their menu.

Great recommendation for brunch! We walked in after working out in the park and felt completely at home. It's nice to know you can go somewhere after a workout and feel welcomed. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent.

Great food! Friendly staff.

By Todd S |

Went here with two friends on our way to Arlington for the Cowboys Classic. We just needed something good and quick. My friend who is a Dallas resident recommended this place. The food was great (I had the Reuben) and our server (Gloria I think) was very friendly and accommodating. Both of my friends had dessert, which looked amazing but I was just too full! Great little place if you're in Dallas!

Good eats

By Al D |

Best chicken fried steak I ever had. My mother-in-law ate my leftovers the next day and agreed they were excellent. If you go for breakfast be sure to order pancakes because they serve them with this cinnamon butter that is insanely good. The breakfast tacos, post roast hash and Migas were good but I've had better. The other things I tried were good to very-good.

Best Breakfast, great prices in Oaklawn area

By JandLfromNY |

Lucky's is a unique breakfast and lunch place, and the crowds on the weekends can attest to that. We were in the area over the holidays and had 3 breakfasts with Lucky's and enjoyed everything tremendously. The staff was welcoming, food came out hot and fast. And the southwestern breakfast dishes were wonderful! Very ecclectic crowd and everyone was friendly and very efficient. LOVED the migas and breakfast burrito. Prices were very reasonable. A great find, not recommended by hotel, but the line outside the door speaks volumes about the excellence and value of this great eatery!!

If your looking for a great place to hang out and have a casual meal this is it For Dallas it is very reasonable The Reuben was the best I've had in a very long time. Even better than some I've had in NYC Highly recommend

Good for Breakfast

Was looking for a breakfast spot and saw this place packed on a Sunday morning. After about a 15 minute wait, we were seated and had a great breakfast. Good bloody Mary’s also.

Home style cooking

By RichAChapman |

I've eaten here often over the years and have found the food to be good for what it is and for its location and usually good service. It's what my mother use to cook but better. Thank God. Breakfast is their best meal. It's offered all day. Good reliable neighborhood spot.

Good food

By Kate B |

Get there early on Sunday, the place is busy! Quaint neighborhood feel with good portions and good food. We had the French toast, pot roast hash and eggs and breakfast tacos. Nice size portions, the French toast was amazing. I wish they would have said on the menu there were green peppers in the pot roast hash since I don't tolerate them well. Luckily I was able to pick most of them out. The coffee was not terrific but that's ok, I'm kind of picky about coffee. We enjoyed ourselves and the food.

Nice diner!

By Marco L |

Stopped here for dinner on a Monday night. A friendly waiter greeted us and quickly seated at our table. Lots of interesting options for dinner (they also have a breakfast menu, which is available throughout the entire day). Food arrived quickly and -again- the waiter was super friendly. Food was good and portions were on the bigger side. I really liked it, as well as the ‘50s decor of the building.

Wonderful breakfast in a classic-meets-modern diner

By Philibuster |

This place was worth the research we did for "Best Breakfast in Dallas." I can't necessarily says this IS indeed the best breakfast in Dallas, but it was very, very good nonetheless. My wife had the french toast which was superbly done in a nice-sized portion while I had the southwest(?) omelet with black beans & red onions which was huge and tasted as good as it looked. The best part were the potatoes that came with my meal: perfectly cooked and seasoned and delicious with some ketchup on them. The service was great and the prices were quite reasonable.

Brunch was great

By Ben H |

The wife and I started a day off with a brunch at Lucky's. Parking was a pain, but once we got in we found the service to be very good. Mostly an older serving staff, the servers were not warm, but really helpful. It was fitting for the diner environment. My server suggested the breakfast sandwich, which knocked my socks off. It was a BLT with thick bacon covered with 2 eggs of your choice. On top of that, they throw on a thick piece of ham. The finishing touch was honey mustard, adding a touch of creamy sweetness to an otherwise very savory sandwich. It was great! On the side was added home style potatoes which were seasoned well. I can't speak to the lunch menu, but when I go next, I'll revise this review.

So good...we came back

By Nancy K |

We stayed at the Warwick Melrose Hotel and wanted a great breakfast. We found this gem right down the road. Got there at 7:30am on Saturday and 8:30am on Sunday and walked right in. Wait till 9 or later and you will wait. Great breakfasts. I had the trainers choice-egg white omelet, with oatmeal and a side of tomatoes. Just a solid place, great food, and good service. We’ll be back.

Sunday Bruch

By Barry |

Fantastic food.. service could have been better. Very crowded, but not a long wait (10 minutes). They offered coffee while you wait. The food quality and taste was very good. The order came out disjointed; items missing and reverses; we wanted everything on a cheeseburger except pickles, it came out with pickles and no tomatoes. Mimosas and Bloody Mary's were very reasonable priced, less than $5

Great atmosphere, food, and value

By Newlywed952010 |

This is a community-based diner. You see it when you walk in the door and when the servers interact with the regulars. You may end up waiting for a table because it's a small diner and there's only so much seating capacity. My husband and I came for breakfast on Saturday while in Dallas because I'd been here several times before for lunch and liked the food. The crowd on the weekend (as would be expected) included more couples/partners, groups of friends, and a handful of families. There is some of that on the weekday, but the lunch crowd was mostly filled with people from Uptown offices that are on their lunch breaks. The food was great and what you'd probably expect from a diner. Likewise, it was pretty reasonably priced.

Really good, well prepared food. I've tried several items off the menu have not been disappointed. Service is fast. Great place for lunch or dinner.

Never had a bad meal at Luckys

By ftworth456 |

Classic Diner with a little edge. Food is awesome - homemade biscuits, I would like it if they handed you a biscuit as you walked in the door! Texas torpedos, fried jalapenos covered in cheddar and jack - I make a meal of this alone with a salad! I think they make their own dressing which I love. Grilled Cheese with tomoato and green chilis is a sin but you will go back for it. In a nutshell, everything is awesome including the service - don't think twice about trying Lucky's.

Excellent (but for lack of easy parking)

By Robert C |

Yesterday, a Friday night, we met with a cousin to dine prior to attending an Uptown Players' performance at the nearby Kalita Humphrey theater. We met at 6:30pm. I was extremely fortunate as the parking fairies were looking down on me as the only open space the too small parking lot in back of the restaurant appeared as if magic. Our cousin had to park and walk blocks to join us! For this reason (only), I lower the rating from a deserved 5 circle to a 4 circle rating. We were greeted immediately and seated. Our drinks were provided right away. There were many enticing entries to consider to consume but my wife and I agreed upon sharing the fried green beans as appetizer and a fried chicken sandwich for dinner. The cornbread and rolls were very fresh and tasty. The green bean appetizer was plentiful and prepared perfectly. The chicken sandwich was delivered split for two with split sides (a nice touch). Our cousin had the meatloaf which he enjoyed, too. The atmosphere was great. The service was great. Prices are very fair. Parking so so. We will definitely consider Lucky's as a dining destination in the future when we are in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas. I just decided to upgrade the rating to 5 circles (now that I think about it).

Eat here once a week!

By JJ75219 |

I have ben eating here since 1998. There's a reason I go back. Great service and great food!! Breakfast ends at 11AM on weekdays and 2P on weekends, so don't even ask after the cutoff, ive been trying for years ;) Good specials and decent pricing.

Excellent Breakfast or Brunch

This is a great diner for breakfast or brunch in the Oak Lawn area, always crowded with an interesting mix of gays and families, and warm service. It is worth the wait.

Happy we found this place!

Lovely little diner. Friendly and laid back. Great food! We loved the displayed list of Texas farms from where the diner gets their ingredients.

Home cooking with a twist

By Yo Man! |

My wife discovered this restaurant when she was in town. We've been back numerous times and we always make Lucky's one of our stops. If you like home cooking without all of the country baggage, this is your place. The staff is very friendly and even recommended the cake shop next place when we asked a small desert. Of course the cake shop is owned by one of the contestants from "The Next Great Baker". If was cup cake happy hour (I'm so tired of the ridiculous cup cake trend) and we decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did. All of their cupcakes were based on their white wedding cake with frosting/tops for flavor. These are without a doubt the BEST cupcakes I've ever had.

Good neighborhood choice

By CliveWatkins |

You've probably driven by it 100 times. Just above Lemmon on oak lawn, and on the corner, this is a great neighborhood place, at any meal, but worth stopping by if your driving in the area. Look to the side street to park. At breakfast, there are great , great fresh choices, and anywhere that serves applewood smoked bacon in lieu of the factory bacon most places have, is an instant winner. Not speedy, but it's a kick back no hurry place. Not a huge choice place, but have all the basics. Lunch and dinner are home cooking winners, and reasonable in price to me. Worth the visit. Very friendly

New Menu, New Prices and even better Service!

By J O |

We've been going to Lucky's for years, but recently they've changed to a farm-to-table type concept with fresh foods from local suppliers. AND you can get BREAKFAST all day long now! Huge portions no longer the rule and the much healthier sized portions are just right for most folks. Everything is really fresh and Lucky's proudly recognizes their local suppliers. Daily lunch specials are value deals, although as one might expect, prices are somewhat higher with the new local, fresher menu than in the past. The wait staff is excellent, helpful and "off menu" upgrades are freely recommended by staff. One big improvement is that you no longer need to pay at the Cashier station, every waiter can process your payment for much easier checkout. LGBT friendly.

Stopped here because they can accommodate a larger party.

By Dan F |

We had a larger group that needed to eat on a Saturday night. I was impressed the diner served liquor and cocktails! I got the chicken fried steak based on the server recommendation. It was just okay, but loved the gravy. Other people in my party got breakfast food and seemed to enjoy it. I would probably go back.

Popular Neighborhood Breakfast Spot

By James S |

I was looking for a down home, good breakfast spot in Dallas and I found that spot at Lucky's. The place has a diner feel to it with a full bar when you walk in. It feels a little retro, it feels a little bit Texas. The nice surprise was that it was gay friendly. I had an egg white veggie omelet with a side of grits and biscuits and a coffee. My order came quickly and it was just what I was expecting. The omelet was outstanding and so were the biscuits. I have to be honest and say that the grits were a little runny and I have had better grits. However it was a good breakfast and one that I would come back to have again. The service was efficient, but not friendly. It was not UNfriendly, it just was the I am here to do a job kind a service without the smile and the howdy that I had hoped for. This seems to be a popular breakfast spot and if I lived in the neighborhood I am sure I would come here often.

Great cafe for breakfast

The owner/host was very friendly and the food was delicious. Portions are very large for a good price.

Good food, great atmosphere

By texasjtr |

While in Dallas for Cowboys/Texans we found Lucky's based on Trip Advisor. It's a quick drive from downtown and when you step inside you're in a place that has authentic "neighborhood charm". This is the atmosphere chains try, and fail, to re-create. Wait was short (<10 minutes) for a Saturday morning and once seated service was prompt and courteous. Menu has " breakfast standards" and many other options. I went with an "Eastern Omelette" (eggs, onions, mushrooms, cream cheese and pastrami) that shows the kitchen has a nice touch with flavors. My wife stuck with a basic (oatmeal) and liked it. With the atmosphere and good food we'll certainly return on future visits,

Great eggs benedict

By naturetack |

Somehow I almost missed hearing about this place until I drove right past, and I'm sorry I waited so long. They have the usual breakfast fare if you want something simple, but there's also plenty of unique breakfast options to keep you coming back for something different every time. Personally, a big fan of the eggs benedict!

Not Your Average Breakfast

By Jerry A |

My wife and I ate here one morning in January 2016. We had to circle the block a few times in order to find a place to park so beware, parking can be an issue. After parking, we were seated, ordered, and received our food in a timely manner. This place doesn't have the usual boring breakfast menu, offering some items that I seldom see on a menu. The service was outstanding as was the food.

Generous portions, friendly staff

By Catherine B |

I had the chicken special of the day; one friend had a BLT, another an omelet. The tomato basil soup was delicious; fried okra very disappointing. Sweet potatoes were great. But the best part of this place are the servers. They are so friendly and over accommodating, it's worth the wait.

My Favorite Dallas Eating Spot

By ThruDaLookingGlass |

The service at Lucky's is world class and the food is pretty darn good too! The servers are always so warm and friendly - they make you feel like an old friend. I first visited Lucky's a couple of years ago and I couldn't wait to get back. In fact, I went twice during my 3-day stay. The Deviled Eggs are delicious and simple. With the recent fad to put everything in deviled eggs except eggs, it's nice to go back to basics. Lots of pickles too... YUM! The Banana Cognac Pancakes are sinful... sweet... buttery... decadent. You don't even need syrup. It's hard to go wrong with any of the main dishes at Lucky's I must admit that I was disappointed with the key lime pie. It had the consistency of meringue - soft and mushy - and was a shade of neon green that doesn't exist in nature. Given the quality of their main dishes, I was expecting a classic custard filling. My server, Chris, suggested the apple pie and I probably should have listened... but I'm a sucker for key lime.

Another Great Stop At Lucky's

By Mark G |

We often have to travel to Dallas to visit the Scottish Rite Hospital for our twins. Every time we visit, Lucky's is on our list of places to go. The food, atmosphere, staff and location make it our go-to destination. Every server we've ever had has been great. The food never disappoints. Try the squash casserole, you'll love it! It's a true diner style restaurant that gets it right every time. We're sure you'll love it!

Diner food!

By bcbsat |

It is so much fun to eat in a place like this. Old-style diner with upscale menu. Breakfast was huge but reasonably priced. The biscuits are wonderful. We were able to sit and visit for a long time without feeling pressured to leave; the waiter even took photos for us. Lunch menu looked really good with great sandwiches.

New menu will chase your long dedicated customers away!

By Travelingczechman |

Had a friend from out of town and I bragged about Sunday's at Luckys he also heard about it and had a few items he was looking to try. Well we arrived and there was a new hostess which was not the happy and the staff seemed to be glum no energy. Well we sat down and the menu was changed and some of the items my friend heard was good was taken off my regular items too were removed. So I said I will order french toast sticks the waiter told me that they are very doughy and heavy so I changed my order to the banana pancakes. Well breakfast was served and my pancakes looked as if somebody barfed a horrible pile of mashed brown banana and paste on top just horrible. I was shocked at the sight and scraped it off making a comment to the waiter and he just smiled I bit into the pancakes and they were powder uncooked and just horrible. I quickly pushed them away and noticed that a lot of the customers also were sending plates back or many just did not attempt to eat. the atmosphere of staff was like they were walking on egg shells there was a lady in kitchen with a bob hair cut and glasses that was yelling or looked really mean at the cooks. How sad to see such a great place go so quickly down the tubes. I hope upper management steps in and turns things around quickly first step fire the creator of that menu.

Casual diner with decent food

By BlackNBlueBubbles |

I really liked my meal, for the most part. I had the fried catfish, which was great. Fries as a side - they were pretty good too. The other side - this spinach casserole type thing - well it sounded good but it tasted institutional. Not a fan. Overall though, this seems like a good place to get a fast meal. Service fine. If you are in the area, I recommend Pappadeauxs!

We Never Miss Going to Lucky's on Dallas trips.

By TexTraveler1 |

There's nothing really special about the food or the service at Lucky's. Solid. Dependable, Comfort food. Decent drinks - screwdrivers, mimosas, coffee. Having gone to Lucky's on almost every trip to Dallas for the past ten years, it's those qualities of dependability that make it a mandatory stop for us. Absolutely nothing fussy about the food or service, but what you find at Lucky's is increasingly difficult to find and enjoy. While there might have been a time in America when there was a Lucky's-like diner on every corner, that's simply not the case anymore. Go. Don't miss it. Enjoy the grits, the standard breakfast options, and its biscuits. The locals appreciate how good it is. Plan on waiting in line when you arrive on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Go early to avoid the crowd. A great place. It will remind you of terrific times past.

Great little spot for brunch!

By Tarrah L |

My husband and I just ate here recently for the first time. It wasn't cheap (about $10+ a plate) but it was very good food. We got the banana cognac pancakes and another plate that had farm fresh eggs, bacon, 9 grain toast and oatmeal. We loved the food. The staff was super friendly and helpful! We loved it and would definitely go back!!

Menu Upgraded!

By bkhtxag |

I have been eating at Luckys for 20 years and always thought it was average cafe food. BUT! I’m recent years they have upgraded their menu, the ingredients and quality! Saturday we dropped in about 6:15 on a unplanned evening out. They weren’t very busy yet and we were seated immediately, had great service and the food was excellent. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer. They use bread and butter pickles and the difference was a nice surprise. The chicken fried chicken was tender, moist and delicious. The roasted sweet potatoes & the roasted Brussels sprouts as sides were perfect. My only negative was the bar cocktail I ordered. Luckys Lemonade was bitter and fairly bland. It was my fault, the waiter warned me not to order it. He told me it was bitter and recommended a different cocktail. I think they should rethink that cocktail. But, we will definitely return!

Loved this place!

Taken for lunch by a local, really loved this place. Great food, good service, eclectic clientele in a good way, lots of specials on the menu and possibly the best burger I've eaten in a while. Would really recommend, great value and most of all good vibes.

We really enjoyed the service and fresh food. The person who answered the phone was amazingly helpful and friendly. Out of all the places we called, we knew we were heading ther. The food did not disappoint at all. Definely diner food but great quality.

Off to a Bad Start

By jahoomus |

You know things aren't going to go well when your coffee keeps getting cold; when you don't order potatoes and you get three orders of them and you order three orders of grits and you get none...oh, and when you order biscuits and gravy and you get one biscuit they could use as building material and gravy that a spoon would stand erect in. This place has been a forever favorite for breakfast. Sure hope that breakfast was just a bad morning in the Lucky kitchen. Will try again sometime...but with eyes wide open.

Nice Diner

Its a cool diner offering nice "American" feel. They have quite a few options for vegetarians. Along with other entrees, we tried the Jalapeno Loud Puppies, but didn't like it much. Garden Veggie Burger was good. The staff is very friendly and was willing to accommodate dietary restrictions for Vegetarians. Mimosa's are good,.

Local diner, good food & down-home service

By awm15 |

First time visitor for an early dinner and had a terrific experience. Our waiter was personable and had a great sense of humor. The cornbread with cinnamon butter was amazing (waiter insisted we couldn't leave without trying it) and my sandwich was perfect. One of my friends has several dietary restrictions and they were able to work with him to create a delicious burger & side that fit his needs. In a city of pretentious foodie establishments, it's nice to find an old-school diner that sources locally, keeps the menu interesting and doesn't skimp on the Southern hospitality.

Very Good Breakfast

By Dwaynerh52 |

Very good breakfast but somewhat of a wait in a small waiting area. Also the hired help that took our name was very rude and disrespectful. Other than that a decent place to eat.

Would definitely recommend

By Steve T |

We were in Dallas for my daughters dancing event and were looking for a place to eat breakfast on Sunday 12-6-09. We were arbitrarily driving around, saw Lucky's Cafe and the line and assumed it had to be good. My wife, 2 daughters, and I were definitely NOT disappointed. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like one of the family. My coffee never got below 1/2 full. Breakfast recommendations from our waiter were spot on. Food was fantastic (Migas was outstanding!!!). Service exceptional. This will definitely be on our "must-go-back-to" list! Would have loved to have tried dinner there, but we ran out of time. Definite highlight of Dallas. This is a 5 star restaurant's put in a diner atmosphere. Thank you for a wonderful meal!

Best Fun Brake-Fast

Quirky fun place. Great place, have only eaten lunch and breakfast. Hugh lunch menu, waiters have tons of personality and are always attentive. We live in far North Dallas with the typical chain restaurants, always look forward to a nice time in Luckys. Never had a bad meal and they serve booze to.

Pretty Good

By metntex |

Went here with a few of our kids for a Saturday morning breakfast. Parking is a bear so be prepared to drive around a while to find a spot. While they were very busy not a bad wait to get a table. The initial service could have been a tad quicker....give a person coffee ASAP then take your sweet time taking the order. Once we got situated the service improved. Portions were large and food was tasty. Great bacon and cold milk. Good price/value relationship. Would we go back? Yes.

OVER PRICED - Too many changes for the BAD

By Bill F |

Prices have doubled. Breakfast for 2 of us was $23.00. This is CRAZY. I wanted an English Muffin like I had always had here and they no longer have them, I asked for a beagle and those too are gone. The friendly Manager that everyone likes is not there anymore as they moved him to another location. This place always had a wait on Saturday and Sundays, now because of all the BAD changes you can pick a table because most of them are empty. INCREASED PRICES – VERY EXPENSIVE REDUCED PORTIONS MANY STANDARD BREAKFAST ITEMS GONE 50% OF THE CUSTOMERS ARE GONE

Neighborhood Breakfast

By Glenn Almack |

Met a friend for breakfast, at one of my favorite haunts. Lucky's Café is a great spot, which has an eclectic feel, combined with a Farm to Table concept. I chose the healthy Trainers Choice, with an egg white omelette, with tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, bell and serrano peppers, served with oatmeal and toast. Always tasty as well as filling! Another go to entrée, is the Garden Hash, with two sunny side eggs set in sautéed seasonal vegetables, green bell peppers, with cheddar cheese, with a cup of fruit or toast. Lots of choices, with quality food and straight forward service. Glenn Almack

Just Average

Road our bikes to Lucky's on a Sunday morning. We didn't have to wait to be seated. The restauarant is a step-up diner. Waitstaff were very friendly. Food was very average, might go back.

Great Late Sunday Lunch

By MAC3844 |

I had never been to Lucky's but my wife suggested for a mid-afternoon lunch. Although crowded for the time of day, we were quickly seated. Our server, Chris, was there immediately for our drink order. We also ordered some Beer Battered Beans. That was a great appetizer and the dipping sauce was unique and tasty. I order the grilled chicken and Chris suggested spices be added. Sides orders were roasted sweet potatoes and fried okra. All came out steamy hot and well prepared. She ordered the pot roast and there was really enough for two people. Both of us enjoyed the taste. They brought biscuits and cornbread muffins. The biscuits tasted great but reminded me of a Dallas Stars Souvenir Puck. Not meant to be a negative, but they were heavy biscuits. The cornbread muffins were out-of-sight! All said, this was a great lunch. The food was great and Chris' service much, much better than normal. Would we go back? You bet (and soon)!

We were in the mood for sugar and carbs for breakfast and Luckys was a perfect spot to try (they serve protein but that was not what we were craving). The French toast sticks and the Belgian waffle were both served with warm syrup and the waffle also had a brown sugar cinnamon butter - sugar carb heaven. The staff was warm and accommodating. This was a fun place to have a good, not good for you breakfast.

Great Diner

We LOVE American diners & this didn't disappoint us ! Had breakfast on July 4th & returned for dinner that night . Loved the meatloaf !

Great diner with tasty food

We had a lovely breakfast here - tasty biscuits and great mimosas. Service was a little slow, but friendly. Loved the decor. We trekked from uptown Dallas on the first morning of our roadtrip and were glad we made the trip.

Fresh, homemade food

Just good ole home style cooking! Extensive menu includes lots of fresh vegetables and everything from burgers to steak to salads. Service is good and the place is always full of interesting people.

Breakfast treat

Have been here many times and never disappointed. The biscuits are wonderful. We had Migas and the cognac banana pancakes. Yummy. Everything came as ordered and was nice and warm. Water and coffee were refilled regularly. They gave us cups of coffee to go. Nice touch. Always enjoy it here!

Lunch

The cheese/bacon sandwich was delicious. Daily lunch was good too. Great food. Relaxing atmosphere. We will visit again.

Favorite Place to be seen!

Lucky's has been around forever it seems! The place hasn't changed much, the food is a basic staple, but it's the people that make this place fun! I go just about every trip to Dallas, and James is my favorite waiter!! The booth is the best spot to perch and watch the crowds roll in. So, on a Sunday, grab a few bloody mary's, and tasty breakfast treat, and just enjoy the good food and the good vibe!! Enjoy!!
