Great breakfast, good lunch, no dinner

By Terryl B |

This place is only open for breakfast and lunch and has no liquor license, so if you are in the mood for a margarita, you are out of luck. What they do have is excellent Tex Mex that won't break your wallet.

Excellent

Love this place. It is very busy at lunch time, but it show worth the wait. I enjoy the service and the food. Been eating here for the last couple of years. I am no long in SA but when I go back I will stop by.

Lunchtime at Lula’s

By Joanne T |

We visited Lula’s slightly later than lunchtime, around 1 p.m. It was busy, but there was a table available for 7. The lunch special was poblano chicken, which was a good-sized serving with tasty rice and beans, and a choice of flour or corn tortillas. We all opted for flour tortillas, which were thick, floury, and toothsome with good flavor. I had the beef puffy taco plate, which came with 2 tacos topped with guacamole, rice and beans. I found the puffy tacos to be delightfully crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, stuffed with a beef filling that had small chunks of potato and chopped onion. I found it to be the best puffy taco I’ve tasted in years, and I seek out puffy tacos every time I visit San Antonio. The prices were low... for all 7 of us, the total was less than $70. Do yourselves a favor and visit Lula’s next time you’re on the River Walk.

Get the Gigantic Cinnamon Roll!

By Phojes10 |

The several-pound cinnamon roll was only $8! And it was a thick, full, icing-filled roll. Chicken-fried steak meal is also good. Lulu's is located in downtown San Antonio close to all of the attractions.

Breakfast is amazing!

By jcelwood |

I'm a big fan of breakfast tacos and this place filled the bill. They had many different choices in tacos along with all the other standard breakfast fare like at any restaurant. I wish I was there for lunch or dinner to try their chicken fried steak that just eye-popped on the menu. Also, for those who don't know you have to see their famous cinnamon rolls. Eight people could eat off of it and still have leftovers. No joke! There's always a wait to get in but it's so worth it.

The place was packed..dunno why

By LesDye |

The salsa was quite good, cheese enchiladas ok, rice nice (and spicy), beans mushy. Disclaimer: I"m spoiled by New Mexican style. Judging from the crowd, I've rated the food too low. The service was excellent.

Yum!

We visited on a Thursday @1:30 and it was packed. Seat yourself, free chips and salsa was very good. Prices are cheap. Ordered a puffy beef taco, which was a little greasy but very tasty. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas. Perfect size for 1 person. The chicken was very tasty!

Great place for breakfast

By Michael S |

We were looking for a quick bite before we left town. We will make this a regular stop from here forward. The food was great and the service even better. Carry took care of us. Hands down, best service in a while. Swing by and check this place out. You won't be disappointed.

Great Find!

We were looking for a great breakfast spot without waiting an hour or so to get in. This place presented itself, and we were pleasantly surprised. The Todos breakfast was amazing. I can’t remember having a better breakfast. My son said the pancakes were the best he ever had! We will be back! Service was great, and homemade tortillas!!!

Favorite San Antonio breakfast spot!

Whenever my family is in SA, we make it a point to stop at Lula’s for breakfast at least once, but then we usually end up coming back! This is a family run operation, and you can tell they really put their heart and soul into their food and their service. Everyone is so genuinely friendly and accommodating, and the food is fresh and delicious. My husband swears by their chilaquiles plate and says he has never had better anywhere. The eggs a la mexicana are great and all the breakfast tacos we’ve tried have been delicious. And my little gringos even love the pancakes!

Cheaper than a hotel's breakfast.

Lula's was recommended by a local for a late breakfast. My husband had the huevos ranchero and I had the huevos americanos. The food portions were huge for breakfast and the prices were pretty cheap. We even got a breakfast taco on the side with coffee and only spent $15. Way more affordable than eating at any hotel restaurant. It is a great little place to check out if you are nearby!

Freshly prepared food, homemade tortillas, and reasonable prices.

By John H. |

Not fancy, no views, but good home made Mexican dishes at reasonable prices. Hand made masa tortillas (not pre made store bought kind found in most Tex-mex places.). I didn't see any unique dishes on the menu, but I enjoyed the the classic Huevos con Chorizo breakfast.

Great place to eat

By Jerry H |

We went there for lunch after visiting the Alamo and The River Walk. I am glad we did. The food was very good Mexican food. Prices were very economical for the location, size of portions and the quality of food. We went right after the lunch crown at 1:00 on a weekday so was a little slow getting a table, but well worth a few minutes wait. Place seems to be a family run place and they were very friendly and attentive to us.

Fine for breakfast.

By David P |

Attending conference nearby and good for a quick breakfast. Had breakfast tacos and was fine. Service also fine. Very basic but perfectly adequate for a meal. Seems popular with the locals.

Not tasty

By QDC |

It was hot and stuffy and the food was not tasty. Ok if you are hungry, I suppose. With other options nearby, I’d recommend trying something else.

Another Good Choice over the Hotel Restaurants

By Ray H |

Lula's is a popular breakfast and lunch place for the locals. There was a nice lunch crowd and very few appeared to be tourists. This place has a better street presence than the other Mexican place about one block away and it has a somewhat better ambiance due to nice paint and decorations. The kitchen is is plain view so you can rest assured knowing your meal is being prepared with care. My two friends enjoyed "senior" meals, but since I m a big eater, I went for the gusto. I had a beef (or you can order chicken) quesadilla with rice, beans and a small salad with a dollop of guacamole. The meal came with chips and salsa and we all agreed the salsa was quite good. My meal was delicious and filling. The place is typical Mexican fare, but on the tasty side. Everything is clean and bright. I would visit again (and again and again.

Get there early or have a late lunch

By Jim H |

Get there before the crowds arrive or later as it fills quickly. The food is very good and at a great value. I will be going back. Starting with warmed chips with salsa we had their Chile Releno. It was great. The salsa goes well with other foods on the menu as well.

Just off the tourist path

By kdmc5 |

Came for breakfast, but just missed the cut-off so enjoyed lunch. (Breakfast ends at 11:00am, so keep that in mind if you are looking for morning food.) Had the lunch special which included their refried beans. Wonderful flavor! Comfortable and clean surroundings. Will have to come earlier to try out the breakfast menu.

Classic Tex Mex

By Michele with Ports and Paths |

A bright and cheerful cafe style eatery with excellent service offers all the basic Tex Mex delights. Enchiladas smothered in gravy, juicy tacos and my favorite, homemade corn tortillas are just a sample of the tasty delights you will enjoy. Don't forget to pick up cookies on your way out! Locals and families fill the tables fast but we were in and out in an hour. Parking is across the street, $10/hour.

Good and quick

By Rammgm |

I had the nachos with picadillo. It was quite good and plenty of it. The chips were still crispy under the toppings. The waiters were quick and very accurate. Please note this is a smallish place, but the tables were turned over at a god clip which makes whatever wait not long. You can split the check with no problem.

Great place for lunch

Good for Breakfast and Lunch

By BrianUSN |

Contrary to what the reviews indicate, Lula's is open for lunch and they have daily specials. The salsa is unique, everything is served fresh and hot. Thursday's they serve an especially delightful chicken in green sauce. I work near here and also enjoy going, this is a family owned place. While close to the Riverwalk, this is not a touristy place nor did they spend a ton of money decorating the place, but it's good, solid, TexMex food.

Great breakfast

By GloboAndino |

My family ate breakfast here while staying close to the Riverwalk. Kids loved pancakes, of course. The grown ups had mexican style breakfast dishes and they were great. This place was recomended to us by a hotel worker. If you're near the riverwalk and don't want to eat a hotel/bagel/muffin breakfast, then you should try Lula's.

Great food and excellent atmosphere

We really enjoyed the food here. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly. We noticed that the place filled with business people which indicates the good reputation that it has.

YUM

By Connie E |

Wonderful breakfast with friendly, fantastic service. They REALLY do treat you like family! Fresh, homeade salsa was delicious.

Great tacos!

By asf1 |

OK.. Lulas starts by giving you warm chips and salsa when you sit down. And a giant refreshment - whether it be water, tea, soda.. whatever. Then you get your meal - we tried the tacos, burritos and enchaladas. All excellent, with refried beans. The prices - DIRT cheap! I believe me paid maybe $15 for 2 people... great value. Check it out for a quick lunch.

Delicious

Great lunch and cheap!

By Bruce J |

We had lunch there before heading to the airport to return home. They are very quick, very good and inexpensive. They are located directly across the street from the Embassy Suites Riverwalk. I had the soft chicken Tacos, which were delicious. My wife had the guacamole chalupas and enjoyed them. Our total bill was $9.00!

Nice little mid-day snack

By diann_13NewBraunfels |

We stopped in mid-afternoon so had nachos - really good serving size for sharing. The people were super friendly. Building is kind of tucked away.
