It is extremely difficult to find good places to eat in this area. A lot of fried food or bland greasy texmex ...whatever that is supposed to be. Anyways, the first day I got to San Antonio last June my friend took me to dinner at Luna Rosa puerto Rican food. I had never tried Puerto Rican food and told the server to surprise me. She brought me this amazing chimichuri steak with shrimp on top, with this plantain side dish that was so good. I also got some cinnamon creamy drink that had the glass rim rolled in sugar. It tasted like an alcoholic horchata. Service was good to. I hear they changed management but I got take out from them last month and got this pork sandwich that was really good. The bun was super sweet and the pork was not overwhelming. This place is by far my favorite restaurant in San Antonio so far.

This place is great! Nice relaxed vibe and great food with better people! Gotta try the huge Coqui drink served in a pint mason jar.

Wow. We searched out something different - in town for a wedding - and found Luna Rosa. Twice visited by Guy Fieri, knew it would be cool. The vibe is easy and upscale. We had the Nachos (no tortilla chips here, use friend plantain) and El Orocovis, delicious chunks of fried pork. You MUST try the plantain soup - light, nutty, pure heaven. Were there during happy hour - drinks we fantastic. All around winner!

Great food - the sorullitos were crispy and soft in the middle, mahi-mahi was excellent, and la chuleta (fried pork chops) were all tasty. The dessert - flancocho - was a standout: chocolate cake layered with flan. Such friendly, warm service at a time when restaurants are struggling to have enough staff. You can tell they really care about what they’re serving. Will definitely return.

After visiting the Mission on a 111 degree temperature we found this place that was HEAVEN all the way. The lady that welcome and service us was the “best” by far. Plug my phone to recharge, and get us ice water super-fast. Remember we walk for hour on a summer heat and it was shown all over us LOL. The guava margarita that we order is one of the house specialties, I have to say OMG IT WAS JUST DELICIOUS. Perfect blend on taste and presentation. Just great!!!!! For appetizer we order the Sorrullitos (cornmeal sticks) with the mayoketchup salsa, A+. For my main dish I order mofongo (smash green fry plantain) with octopus and ask for no garlic on it. My surprise was that the chef came to our table to ask me what she can add or not on my dish to make my food 100 acceptable. She was great and me food was exactly as I ask, say no more she came again to check on my approval. The restaurant have more than have of the table busy and this lady took the time to make me happy. Is not common and it was a great experience for all of us. Clean, nice decoration, delicious food and wow drinks. If you are visiting San Antonio and want to go away from the tourist zone and want to try something different this place is the one. Luna Rosa San Antonio, you are one of my favorites in Texas AAAAA+++++ Myra

Saw this on triple D and I was not disappointed. The Plantine nachos were fantastic, guava Margarita was the bomb and the pork chop was out of this world and dinner for 2 nights on the road. A must stop kinda place!!

We have seen this restaurant advertised on tv twice last year and wanted to try it out. It was a slow day because it was a very cold day in SA. We had lunch which ended at 3. Then we began the happy hour which started at 3. The lunch specials were $7.99 and they had a variety of delicious meals. We had guava margarita's which were delicious. They had a tapas menu for $5.00 during happy hour. Every thing was great. We will make it a point on going back.

I had the arroz con pollo which was great, my husband had the plantains filled with ground beef and cheese which he loved. The plantain chips could have been warmer but which is my only complaint. My husband also had regular margarita and I ordered Guava and Tamarind Margarita. They were both good. BTW the service was great!

There several restaurants in San Antonio serving Puerto Rican food, but this is the best one of all. Friendly staff, great prices and awesome taste. They have free live music on the weekends. It is phenomenal. The Staff and the owners are very friendly.

We stopped in around 4 in the afternoon for cool refreshments after walking around the King William historic district on a hot August day. We sat at the bar. The bartender was very prompt with his greeting and offered us menus right away. We are vegetarians, so there wasn’t a lot on the menu that we could eat at this Puerto Rican restaurant. That’s ok, we mainly wanted to get out of the heat and get something to drink. I ordered the lavender mule, and my husband ordered the top-shelf margarita. Both drinks were excellent! We also ordered the frito queso with mango dipping sauce. It was delicious! I highly recommend it. I recommend this place 100% if you’re in the King William district and need a place to get out of the heat and refresh with some cool drinks!

Exquisite Caribbean food. Waiter was amazingly helpful and attentive. Bit pricey but so worth it. Dj played a variety of latin music.

Food had no flavor, hardly doubt it is owned by a Puerto rican.. no zazon!!! The meat was hard and dry w no flavor, the ordered q mojito and it was terrible, pure juice/no alcohol, toston was made w semi ripe plantain.. so it was not good, even the lemonade was bad. And the price was high for such crappy food.

Disappointed!! Some items are gone from the original menu after they moved to new location. It is not the same Caribbean Boricua Sazón. Luna Rosa was well known for its dishes flavor and presentation. 😢😢😢 Luna Rosa loss the Boricua authenticity

This is the 3rd time we visited Luna Rosa. We had the happy hour appetizers and drinks. Happy hour is from 3-7 on Fridays. The place is lively and fun. The Paella was great. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is awesome. We met the owner and his wife. They are very humble people. We will visit this place again!!

First day we went, everything tasted good except the arroz con gandules they weren't bad just the flavoring was off still edible but not the arroz and gandules I am use too. The waiter was very friendly. The tamarindo margarita was good, the sangria was okay. Overall the food was good and we decided to go back the next night because the waiter told us they were having Karaoke night. Friday night we ordered the sampler plate that had yuca, tostones, sorullitos, bacalaitos, carne frita and pollo frito. The only thing we didn’t like was the yucca frita they were big and didn’t have much flavor but the rest of the sampler was delicious especially the sorullitos and bacalaitos. We ordered tamarindo margaritas and passion fruit martinis that were made well and tasted delicious. The atmosphere is very nice feel like your among friends and family. karaoke was fun and when people didn’t sing the DJ kept the music going. Overall a great experience and friendly staff.

Love this place. Food always delicious. Service always wonderful. Loads of choices for happy hour for all types. We will return! So worth the visit!

We have been looking for good Puerto Rican food and this is the place. I had the special with plantains and ground beef. My husband had the mufongo. Nice and clean inside - very contemporary atmosphere. Good value and service.

We finally found a restaurant that reminded my wife and me of our numerous visits to Puerto Rico! This is a family-run place (SE Military Dr. & S New Braunfels Ave.) in SE San Antonio and we had a table of seven for a 3:00 p.m. Sunday lunch in February, 2019. We had called ahead and the table was waiting for us ten minutes later. Esperanza waited on us and gave us top-shelf service. The mofongo, tostones, rice-and-chickpeas, garlic butter sauce, and fried pork are all must-haves, as well as the chocolate cake topped with flan dessert. The chicken was splendid, likely marinated the night before then grilled with more seasonings to come out juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. They even gave us a nice military discount, which is always appreciated in Military City, USA. We'll be back soon and often!

Clean and nice restaurant.Friendly staff.Food was very good but a little pricey. The restaurant was located in a good area.

Ropa vieja plate was amazing. Our server was excellent and very helpful. Definitely will be returning soon!

The menu is filled with authentic PR dishes that are well executed. The bar has really unique mixers, served up with genuinely friendly staff who make you feel welcome. The tapas menu is not big but has some very tempting offerings. The full menu is more extensive. Don’t let the strip mall exterior put you off, the inside decor is simple but nice, clean and the food and staff make this a must try.

The food needed seasoning. The drinks were pretty weak. Don’t waste you time or money. Very disappointing. Also there was one speaker which was very loud.

We were staying nearby and searched TripAdvisor for suggestions. Luna Rosa popped up as the highest rated restaurant in the neighborhood. Everything we tasted was delicious. We got a complimentary basket of plantain chips with dipping sauce and shared the manchego & chorizo tapa. Our entrees, a Cuban sandwich and mahi mahi with escabeche sauce were also well-prepared. The owner stopped by for an engaging chat and our waiter was friendly and efficient. We look forward to visiting Luna Rosa on our next visit to San Antonio.

I had to come back and write a follow up review, we have been back numerous times since my previous review and the place has really improved especially the service, it is still a little slower now then especially when they are busy, but that is understandable. The food in my opinion is the best Puerto Rican Food in San Antonio and is really authentic, we now eat here on a regular basis, nice improvement.

Everything on the menu is delicious! My partner is Puerto Rican, and is always excited to find a restaurant with the taste of home. We ordered appetizers to share accompanied with mojitos and loved everything we tried. We'll definitely be back next time we're in San Antonio.

Went here with a small group for lunch. Had the Special of the day a sautéed chicken with plantains, rice and beans, It was very good. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Very nice new atmosphere and a great looking bar. Staff very freindly and will answer all your questions about the menu. Come and enjoy!

First time at the S Alamo St location. We had been to and loved the SW Military Dr location but we could walk to the S Alamo st one so a real plus when having drinks. We started with a Guava Margarita and then had the bacon wrapped dates appetizer. The margarita was awesome and the dates were very tasty. We ordered Mofongo de Pulpo (octopus mofongo) which was delicious, and the Ropa Vieja. The Ropa Vieja came with sweet plantains and and rice with grandules (black beans). All were really good. Unfortunately we were so full, we had no room for the flan. Had it at the other location and it was great. Probably have to go back and just have a couple appetizers and flan!

Good was delicious and staff was very friendly. The only reason I didn’t give a 5-star was that the kitchen seemed to be backed up and took a really long time for our food. However, the staff kept checking on us and we were not in a hurry. Vibe there is fantastic and food hit the spot! Great place for Authentic Puerto Rican Cuisine and Latin feel!

Love Puerto Rico. Love Puerto Rican food. Yes, a bit pricey for some, BUT I'M WORTH EVERY PENNY. Lol. The owners are awesome & sweet. Husband is funny as heck. Lol. Live music on weekends. Great atmosphere. Great Music. Great Puerto Rican ambience. Try it, you'll end up going back. The "race" review????? NOT.

I have developed gluten "sensitivity" over the last couple of years. Was happy to see a variety of plantain based options including the Taino burger on the menu made with tostones (fried plantains) used as "buns". The lunch menu has them as sliders. Many things come with baguettes on the side. They have ALWAYS been accommodating to my request to substitute bread, baguettes and buns for the plantain options; even on their version of the Cuban sandwich. I had the privilege of meeting the owners in the beginning and watching this business develop and grow. They hosted a neighborhood Puerto Rican festival of sorts even inviting other vendors. One of the owners is from New Mexico and the offer some New Mexico options on the menu as well. A very good variety of beverages (both soft and alchohol blends and beer varieties) are also available. Guavarita and Sangria are a must try. Very good lunch and Happy hour specials. Keep in mind that this is not a "fast" food restaurant. Dishes are well prepared and tastefully( visually and literally) presented The atmosphere is pleasant. We have taken nearly all of our family and friends there...some several times. : )...Luv this place and the people who run it. Great family and staff!!

This is one of the best restaurants we’ve eaten at in San Antonio. It is a bar/restaurant so go early with kids. Live Music on some weekend nights. The food was amazing! The portions were huge. My teenage son (a hefty eater) couldn’t finish his wonderful Mufongo con carne frita dish. Split a Cuban between two kids, and they could not even finish half. A little pricey on weekends and dinners; but considering I paid $70 (weekend before tip) for five people and don’t have to cook dinner; I’m not complaining. Waitstaff was very pleasant and helpful making recommendations.

Looking for a real food from Puerto Rico and found this place. Teaste like home. Very good service. Must try The Joyuda plate. Variety of house drinks to please all taste.

I visited this place based on a recommendation and it did not disappoint! The Chuleta can-can is delicious I would highly recommend this place if you’re in the area it may become one of your favorite places.

Horrible service and food was cold. Staff is rude, no one works, and zero customer service. Tagged their downtown location on Instagram, left a review, and was blocked from the account shortly after. Employees are a reflection of management. Clearly they don't take constructive criticism well. Save your time and money.

Fabulous food and service. The Thursday night special of wine and paella for $29 is amazing. You gotta go there.

This place is an out of the way diner. It's a great place to go with friends but not a business meeting place or quiet casual meeting place. The nose level is high and with the music playing in the background it seems to elevate the more crowded it is. Feels more like a bar environment. Food is decent.

Food is pretty good although a little pricey. Better to try happy hour instead of going all in on a $14-$29 plate if you are unsure. Plantains for days, but corn tortillas are $1.50 extra. Cocktails are very good and better value for the money. Would return for cocktails and plantain chips.

I went to Luna Rosa went my wife and son, the environment was very vibrant. The waitress was very good and they had a DJ there, the food was great. The portions were large and prices very reasonable, definitely will go back.

This is one of the best Puerto Rican restaurants around town. The food and the atmosphere is spot on. When you come try either a traditional plate or the sandwiches like the La Tripleta.

Puerto Rican friends took me to eat Puerto Rican food. I was looking forward to it but was totally disappointed. It took over an hour to get the food and when we got it it was cold and had to be sent back to warm up. The rice was not cook. It was too crunchy for me. We were not the only one complaining. Several guests from other tables were also upset that it taking too long to get the food. I have eaten PR food before and liked it but I will not eat again at this restaurant. I think that the problem was they did not have enough personal in the kitchen because our waitress and the owner had to go help in the kitchen.

met with friends to try out i ordered a sandwich at average price , my wife orders some steak plate with shrimp it was ok but not worth 27 dollars , so we continued to have a good time ordered 2 margaritas at 9.00 each wow after the evening i paid 70.00 dollars thats two dinners and two drinks , never have i paid so much i could have taken my whole family at a better restaurant and probably paid less, i think the other two couples paid as much, our table probably paid their entire utilities for the month , wow i was floored and never go back again., its not worth it.

The food here is really good, without a doubt the best Puerto Rican food in San Antonio. The reason I gave it an average rating is because the horrible service makes you not want to go there. I have been here at least 7 to 8 times and thought each time it might improve, but it just got worse if anything. The one thing I noticed was that all the other tables received pretty decent service except mine, I am white and my wife is spanish, and I hate to say it, but this is exactly the way it appeared everytime. I hope it was a coincidence, but every time went is a little hard to believe.

Was shepherded here by a local friend. Luna Rosa lives up to every expectation as a solid Puerto Rican establishment. Atmosphere is pleasant, service is exceptional, and food is "to die for". Beer selection is bottles only, but owner know what is good and stocks same. Other "man" drinks available and reasonably priced. Good food portions. Taste is different from any other. Very filling. Looking forward to the next visit.

Saw them on Diners Drive-ins and Dives and decided to try em. Super savory food in a fun lil joint. I had the fish tacos- wow! Wife had the shredded beef plate - OUTSTANDING! Only miss was that food was a little slow to come out, otherwise this wld have been 5 stars easily. Promising place with a nice niche.

Had a lunch/dinner at Luna Rosa this weekend. Everything about this restaurant was pleasant. Newly moved in to a new location. Located on Alamo Street, not Military Drive as shown in the Trip Advisor picture. Luna Rosa has been in San Antonio for many, many years. The new location is well thought out decor, relaxing color scheme and distance between tables allows for private conversation. Located on Alamo Street, not Military Drive as shown in the Trip Advisor picture. Luna Rosa is as close to authentic Puerto Rican food as you will get on the this side of the Atlantic. I had the steak and shrimp with mofongo,"!Ay Bendito!". The steak was cooked exactly as ordered, medium rare, and the shrimp were perfect in a butter sauce. I'm always hesitant to order shrimp as most either over or under cook, but Luna Rosa delivered. My wife had the amazing pork chop. It is huge, order one for two dinners or plan on taking some home. Cooked with the skin on for that chicharones/crackling flavor. I felt it was my duty to finish the leftovers for breakfast the next day... Add a Mojito and a Coco Love to brighten up the day. The staff are special as well. Very friendly and helpful. Everyone was smiling and sincere. Attentive, but not overly so, only there when we needed them. I think we've found our new 'go to' for Puerta Rician food.

Food was quick and delicious. Place has a full service bar - had a Caribbean Mule and it was great. Very clean establishment and excellent service.

This restaurant was totally recommended and so it was worth a try. Honestly, I wasn't disappointed. Classic puerto rican food, good vibes, dj spinning the tunes, cocktails watered down but overall I had a good time.

Visited for lunch. Very clean and socially distanced seating. My wife and I split a full size plate of the Caribbean Nachos with pork. It’s a lot of food for the price. Very tasty!! Sweet tea was very good too. Service was very friendly and fast. Their food is excellent and price is good especially for the quantity. Easy A+ and recommend!

I haven't yet been to Puerto Rico, but I love this place. Fun atmosphere, good service, love the sangria, Caribbean nachos.. I always recommend this place to friends and coworkers

I used to be a loyal customer of this place; however that ended today. Really disappointed of the service and how they turning what it used to be a Puertorican gem in San Antonio with awesome owners but is becoming a wild club. We ordered an appetizer that it was delivered to the table next to us which they enjoyed and the waitress and waiter thought that it was funny, then we waited almost 30 minutes for the appetizer and one hour and a half later for the food to be served without no one coming to the table. The music was so loud that the waitress placed the wrong food. I am so sad to hear people on the table around me talking about how loud the music was and then making remarks about how much it reminds them the club in Puerto Rico, how unfortunate.

Loved the food, the ambience, and the music. Worth checking out when you're in town. We will be going back! DDD did a show here.

Nice intimate setup with a generous bar. Menu is varied with a decent of typical and modern Puertorican cuisine. The entertainment; whether it is Karaoke, professional dancers, DJ or live music, add to the overall dining experience.

My husband and I had heard about this place off of DDD and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. From the amazing service, to the coconut mojito, carribean nachos and a mahi mahi special they had it was spectacular. This is being put on our go-to every time we come to SA! Btw, my hubs is Gluten intolerant and there were more than enough options.

Have spent s a lot of time in Austin,Houston and hill country and this is the best restaurant I have gone to. I am very picky with many food allergies and they ere very accommodating. The appetizers and food were delicious I had Arroz con pollo and my husband had shrimp with chorizo and very good. The owner really cares about his restaurant and customers and was very helpful and welcoming. Enjoyed the Latin music and Dj and look forward to eating their again. Thank owner for his graciousness

The level of the owners' and staff's friendliness and insightful food recommendations that they provide to their customers is unparalleled. The distinct menu of dishes prepared are always hot, fresh, and delicious. A must try in San Antonio.

We took my mom there for her birthday. We love Cuban cuisine, but hadn’t tried Puerto Rican. It is exceptional! Everything we tried had an incredible depth of flavor, and the presentation was beautiful. The good service also added to the great evening. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I heard about this restaurant watching a food network show. My family went the next day. The drinks are tasty and very unique. I ordered the red snapper and it was delicious. The arroz con gandules and beans were very well seasoned. You must get the nachos, made from thinly sliced plantains served with pork, beans, with cheese melted on top.

I saw this place on a food channel so we tried it out . Never had p/rican food before but the server walked us through the menu really quick and left us to decide . We tried their version of pulled pork with vegetables and rice . It took over 45 minutes to get our food and a lot of other tables were also getting a little impatient as well . Our server did say that they were short staffed and they were also getting slammed since the tv show plug However the server did comp us on some fried plantain strips with a mildly spicy sauce . They were extremely good, almost like a thick potato chip. Our food was extremely good . You have to try their sirracha mayo sauce . Their rice is also quite tasty. they do have a full bar here as well but they should really focus on the food service side . We noticed several servers trying to do too many things like tend bar and bus tables while they were also waiting tables and not staying on top of things . But ,we will give them another shot since the food was so darn good .
Love Love Love this place!!!!
We've been here twice and each time, we leave in anticipation of returning! We have had the La Ropa Vieja, El Cubanito, the Pork Caribbean Nachos, the Bacon Wrapped Dates and the house made sangria. The service is outstanding. Fun, lively environment. We absolutely love this restaurant. The food is amazing. Everytime we visit San Antonio, we will make a stop at Luna Rosa Puerto Rican Grill y Tapas.
