Great food at Lupe Tortillas

By Pamela R |

We have eaten at Lupe Tortillas several times since it opened in Austin. The food has always been great. The chicken taco salad is one of my favorites. The fajita meat is exceptional. We really like the beans they serve with the chips and salsa. We haven't had a bad meal yet!

Very good flavors!

By John W |

My wife flew home from PR and we stopped here, new Cedar Park location, on a Saturday evening about 9:20. Parking lot was still close to full, and a short wait inside. We chose bar stools instead, and had good, quick service from bar team. We ordered Negro Modelo draft, large, and a Mexican Martini; both hit the spot, especially with the chips, salsa and drunk beans they brought out. Very flavorful! We ordered beef fajita/poblano nachos and a large order of guacomole. Again, flavorful, especially the beef. It was a good visit overall, and I will return to try the beef fajitas. My only "beef" is the prices - 1 beer, 1 martini and 2 appetizers came to $46, $55 with the tip. Seems pricy, but hey, I'm a country boy.

Same as others - it is the steak fajitas all the way

By Jon E |

Went here with a few friends for a weekday lunch. Quite crowded and the service took a good while for the whole meal. But at the end, it is all about the food and it was great. We went with 1.5lb beef fajitas for the four of us. We also added six grilled shrimp. Everything came family style and it was a little tough to fit everything on the table, even with the little raised platform for the fajita plate. The beef seems to have gone thru a rolling tenderizer before it was marinated and grilled - likely the way the good flavor permeated all of the beef. All the sides were as expected. The added shrimp were good, but not great - stick to the fajitas.

Es Muy Grande ! Indeed

By slowhand57 |

How do you stand out from other Tex Mex joints in a tough market? Serve food that is a cut above the rest. There was a wait for lunch (a good sign actually) but it moved quick. I noticed and commented to my friend that the prices were high for Tex Mex - but they asked if it was my first time and brought me a sample of the Fajita's Al Carbon and it was killer. Great flavor and not chewy or tough like 99% of most Fajita meat. Everything was great and we ended up with a to-go bag that made another meal. After tip $43 seems pricy for lunch but it made 3 meals total and the Fajitas were $20+. The Pico was very sweet and chunky - just right and Boracho Beans for the table free. We'll be back !

Go for the beef fajitas

By Greg W |

We went here for dinner on a Saturday night. The weight at 7 o'clock it was about 45 minutes. They have a very pleasant waiting area outside in the margaritas helped make the time seeing quick. We split a plate of the beef for fajitas and it was plenty of food for The three of us. They were extremely tasty. The service was a little slow though. I've had better chips and salsa at other Mexican restaurants. But I've also had worse.

Yummy fajitas!

By Michael L |

I have been to Lupe Tortillas 4 times in the last 3 months and I have to give 2 big thumbs up for their "World Famous Fajitas", that's for sure! If you haven't been, I totally recommend this restaurant and hope you agree with me on the yummiest fajitas in the world! Also their tortillas are so huge that I've never seen tortillas that big. The location I went was the one in Austin, TX at the Arbor Walk and let me just say that they have a great staff that will make you feel at home!

Good but expensive

By fc_austin |

I hate to admit that some of the best Tex-Mex in Austin is from this Houston based chain. I know of no chain tex-mex that is better, especially for beef fajitas, but be prepared to pay.

Delicious

By Jenbankhead |

I was pleasantly surprised at how good this was. We ordered the beef fajita nachos for an appetizer and a pound of fajitas for our meal. The nachos were perfect and the fajitas were amazing. I really liked the corn and flour tortillas, both tasted home made. I also like the flavor of the complimentary salsa, beans and chips. On top of great food we got amazing service from Ivan....we’ll definitely be back!

Great Mexican Food On Memeorial Day Weekend

By David U |

This weekend was my birthday as my brother and sister-n-law from Corpus Christi meet us in Austin as this was my first visit to Austin. We have just completed touring the State Capital as It was getting on supper time, so we jumped in the car and started driving around Austin looking for a place to eat. I saw this neat Mexican restaurant off of the express way so we pulled in the parking lot and the place was jambed packed. I went in to put our name on the list and was told that it would be 45 min to 1 hr wait time, it was ok because the restaurant had an outdoor patio and the bar opened out into the patio. Ordered 2 beers and 2 margaritas while waiting to be seated, the margaritas was great and the beer nice n cold. As we were seated it was not long to be waited on. Our waiter offered us some free samples of combo fajitas for the whole table, wow I was impressed also brought out the chips and salsa, that was the best salsa I laid lips on. After tasting the sample of fajitas, we all ordered some, the fajitas was excellent, well worth the wait. The atmosphere of sitting out on the patio and inside with the music was great. Good reasonable prices on their food menu, I do not think the restaurant was pricey. I would recommend this place if you like good Mexican food.

Awesome

By Theresa K |

This was the best Mexican food I have found lately. The service was outstanding. I just wish we had one of these in my home town

Very impressed

By Pjm3000 |

Nice atmosphere, awesome waiter & yummy food. Finally some good authentic mexican food. I had the nico and my taste buds danced with joy. The broncho beans tasted really good. They bring some out with the chips and salsa. This place is a must try for anyone looking for good mexican food! I will be back

Great Tex-Mex food! We had great service and very good food! This is our friends favorite place to eat in Austin! We enjoyed it too!

Quality food, excellent seevice

By John |

Another Mexican restaurant, but a cut above the rest in quality and service. VERY pricy, however, and value just not quite there. Server was as good as it gets, food was above average as was atmosphere. Excellent marinated beef skirt fajitas, flour and corn tortillas, but take out a loan before you go.

Good Tex Mex in Austin

By TexasTravelorR |

This franchise with its whimsical Mexican sayings and decor is a good place to eat. We just had a family dinner there for my husband's birthday. They are known for their marinated fajitas. The last 2 times we have eaten there we have had a wait of over 30 minutes. We were too big a party to seat at the bar so we stood in line and then sat in the benches once those became available. If you are just one or two- you may have room to just eat at the bar. I underrated it slightly because of the long wait times. Perhaps they just need to open another location! The food and atmosphere are good, the wait staff is very good as well but evidently overwhelmed since they get so busy. When that busy, noise level inside is high.

Good but not Impressed

By Foodpoet |

Standard chips and Salsa, good thin chips. fresh salsa was good but wish it had a little more kick and heat. An order of Queso was flavorful and a real winner. I ordered the Juan, a Chicken Taco and Chalupa. Was a little disappointed the Taco ground beef was good but very ordinary as was the Chicken Chalupa meat. I was hoping for more flavors. The refried beans were excellent and tasty along with the rice. Served with a Guacamole salad, a scoop of guacamole and some lettuce, tomatoes, onions chopped up was ok. I should have ordered something more daring.

Commercial Mexican Food

By Jorge Pelegrina Soegaard |

This is a commercial mexican food. The food was average and not a great value for the price. It was full and a lot food!

The best mexican food in Austin

By locu05 |

The best fajitas in Austin! i would recommend to get the shrimp fajitas to share in two at least. Also they have buckets of beer.

Loyal "original Lupe' patrons

By Jennifer L |

My husband and I have been loyal patrons of The Original Lupe Tortilla in Houston for 20 plus years. We had our first date there and we love the food!! We usually eat there once a week or more. However, this Lupe is more of a mediocre chain restaurant. The restaurant was dirty and the service was slow. The food is similar to what you might find in your average tex-mex restaurant, nothing special. We were in town to pick our kids up from camp. We will not be returning to this restaurant.

Overpriced mediocrity!

By Scotthib |

My wife and I were in the area and after reading all the great reviews had to try Lupe's. Major disappointment! To be fair, decor was pretty cool, service was decent and the steak fajitas were tender and had a lot of flavor - if I was rating purely on the fajita flavor it would probably get a much higher review. Have to say though, this place is ridiculously over priced for bagged chips, boring salsa, gummy tortillas and mediocre sides. Really - $20 for about 8 pieces of steak?! Do yourself a favor and go to Matt's El Rancho - twice as much food for about 30 percent less and much better sides, chips, salsa and tortillas - less of a chain vibe on top of all that!

Great TexMex in the Domain/Arboretum area

By troy f |

My wife and I had a late night dinner on the patio which is very large and well done. The Large Grand Gold Margaritas on the rocks was very, very good you only need one if you are driving. Fresh salsa and the best Charro beans I have ever had. We both had the SHRIMP & POBLANO ENCHILADAS fresh and just enough spice. Our waiter Josh was great as well as the manager who came by and visited for a while. Can't wait to go back on our next trip.

Fajitas muy bueno, but need another visit

By D-Day04 |

Lady guest, who has frequented this particular Lupe Tortilla occasionally, and I, new to the place, enjoyed a late Sunday dinner here recently. Personally, I loved the ambiance: part cantina, part family-friendly Tex-Mex restaurant. Service was excellent. Our original server had to leave, so he passed our table onto a most capable and lovely senorita who quickly and efficiently handled our entree order, but not before giving us an informative and amicable lowdown on the fajitas. We ordered the beef fajitas for two. Hot, piquant and just the right amount accompanied by rice, beans, guacamole, and the standard fixins. Flan for dessert was a perfect finish. Love how each restaurant puts its own spin on flan. Lupe does the same. Next time I'm in Austin (alas, not often enough), I'll gladly return to Lupe Tortilla at Arbor Walk.

This Tex-Mex deserves to be on my A-list for casual food

By Marjous |

We arrived on the weekend for lunch, were served very well by Ivan and had a good experience here. It was my first visit, but my daughter frequents here often. The queso was good and the salsas were good. We shared fajitas, a combination of both chicken and beef. They were good and the tortillas were excellent, both the flour and the corn. The ice tea was good which is important to me. Give it a try, but expect to pay a bit more for your Tex-Mex here.

good food

By Shemp5 |

Yes, it's "chain-like" from appearance, yet the service and food were very good. Margo on the rocks, perfecto margo, not too sweet and very tasty. Queso, beans and salsa was very nice. The fajitas was the song and they were very good. Combined steak with shrimp, per servers suggestion and it was even better than I thought it would be. Overall: very good and would recommend.

I ate here 1x per week, but not anymore

By DarkLark15 |

Pros: I think the food is 5 stars. If you like lime and salt, then you’ll like the beef fajita meat. The tortillas are fresh. There’s something for everyone. The wait service is good. Cons: It gets busy and loud with concrete floors. The curbside service has always been abysmal. It takes about 10 minutes to be acknowledged and another 5 to receive food. One surprising gross thing that happened today was an employee working the “window” (heated shelf where food awaits table delivery), was eating, drinking, and scratching his beard with customers plates all around him. He did this for a long time in front of diners and at least five employees for about 10 minutes. That’s not allowable in the industry. No one said anything. I guess staff aren’t concerned much with cleanliness.

Redefined fajitas

By Nancy B |

This restaurant had the best fajitas I have ever had. I am still dreaming about them, specifically the steak, which is marinated with something amazing. I wish I lived in Austin. I would be there constantly!

Good Tex-Mex

By weyl-59 |

I think their Carne Asada is excellent. Also, liked the platinum margarita. The beef fajitas are very popular. And good rice.

Traveling sampler

By melissamS8386DA |

Good atmosphere and good food. Best part about my time here was the bartender Bobby. He asked my name and made sure I was happy 100% of the time. Had a great salad, they serve beans with the chips and salsa (which I love) and the beers are cold and the margaritas not too sweet. California gal is ok with this place!

Good Tex Mex

By tatworthington |

Try the fajitas, you won't be disappointed. The spicy bean dip is good but the salsa is a little bland.

Try the steak

By Dan B |

If you like steak fajitas you have to try this place. First they start you off with a basket of fresh made in house chips. They were so light and thin. They served them with some of the best salsa and a second side of warm beans. Not the refried type but warm beans in a sauce. Yum. The steak was to die for. So flavorful and tasty.

Delish

By Gail M |

Great nachos, fajitas, service... No white zin- bad; shrimp quesadilas - meh - not enough shrimp! We'll be back to try some of the other more interesting-sounding seafood dishes.

Amazing Tex-Mex & Margaritas!

By barbaust |

We love Lupe Tortilla! Their Hornito’s Black Barrel Margaritas is the best ever. It’s a bit more expensive but worth it to us. We have never had a bad meal. I have to be gluten free & I can have the enchiladas there! The waiter told me that all their sauces are GF. It can get very crowded so we go at off times. 11am, 2 or 3pm. It’s a great place for couples, groups or families. Go hungry & enjoy!

Nice variety

By wacostar |

Wonderful menu Wonderful flan and fried banana with ice cream Whipped cream and chocolate sauce Fantastic guacamole, creamy and tasty Large potions Wonderful bean dip Friendly staff

So good it made me cry

By Perla E |

It’s our first time here, and we’re in love! ❤️ Everything is so fresh and delicious! Brought a tear to my eye because I miss my moms cooking all the time, and although nothing will ever compare. This makes me feel at home.

Es Good

By Grateful01 |

What a delicious, fun place to eat. I went with my coworkers and we had a blast. Our server - and the whole staff, frankly - was so helpful in recommending food and drink. The queso is SO addicting. I normally stay away because of the calories, but I could not resist. I had the shrimp tacos for dinner. They were seriously the best I've ever had! The drinks were great too - nice and strong. My friend had a cool glass he was drinking his beer out of. Our server heard that we liked it...so when his beer was finished, the server washed it out and wrapped it up for me to take home! It was a so sweet! :) We will definitely be back there again.

Great Vegetarian Menu

By tazcaly |

Fun, comfortable tex-mex restaurant with an extensive vegetarian menu. The place is too loud but they turned down the music when we asked. I had the puffy tacos and my husband had the enchiladas. I really liked the Mexican corn on the cob side. My husband can't eat black beans or corn so asked if he could have something like a small salad instead. That was great until I saw a $2 substitution charge. They did take it off when I complained but.... I've heard that it gets very busy so prepare to wait.

Ok but not awesome

By Leela F |

Hubby and son split mixed chicken and shrimp fajitas - I had the vegetarian ones. The veggies were good - and the side of grilled asparagus tasty. The food was too salty and the tortillas were oddly flavored. The guacamole was nice and fresh. The shrimp and chicken were tasty. The black beans spicy and good. The charro beans that came with the chips were good. The servers were friendly and gave good advice about ordering. The place is loud and echoey - not a place to go if you want to hear your dinner companions

Unexpected variety.

By Nytex1130 |

A first time visit for our family, took our out-of-state family member who wanted Tex Mex and requested a different restaurant than we usually go to.” Thought it was a chain all these years, but it turned up #5 on a best Austin Mex list, so we went. Highlights were - 1) top notch server. Fast, attentive. 2) The manager brought over samples of their famous beef fajitas and they were something special. However, we wanted to try some standards, so all got their “mix” plates. Mine was the Juan, good scoop of guacamole salad, beef enchilada with adobo sauce and shredded, not ground, beef and a crunchy taco. Rice and refried borscht bean. Should add that I started with a large Skinny Margarita, in a beautiful glass and not watered down. So large my daughters helped me polish it off. We will be back!

Not up to the chains standard of food

By falconfling1 |

Sorry folks at LT, but his location was poor.....TexMex as if someone in Ohio had tried to make it, without any real knowledge of what TexMex should taste like. I can't even describe some of the odd flavors...but LT's in Houston area have been average to good on my previous visits. Perhaps they've corrected the food problem since my visit, but there is really no excuse for the waiter and manager coming by to hype more and more expensive choices.

No time for 2hr lunch on work day.

By laura v p |

Food was ok but the wait for service and food was extremely long. Won't chance it again on a work day. I don't think the waitress was bad just very overwhelmed and the kitchen was very slow with the orders.

GREAT FAJITAS

By Texascowboy3600 |

We try to always visit Lupe Tortilla when in Austin. The best time to go is early to avoid the huge crowds and for happy hour. We have been here several times with other people who did not order fajitas and they never seem to really love it. We only order fajitas (and queso). The fajitas are excellent, steak is flavorful and tender while the chicken is fully cooked but not dried out. All add ons are good as well. The best thing about the meal (other than the ice cold Modela on tap) are the tortillas. They are super thin, very large and flavorful. I recommend this place to everyone who likes fajitas. They even have filet mignon fajitas.

Good Queso and Chips

By Stephen W |

The Margarita were yummy as well as the Queso and Chips. However my soft tacos were more like Enchiladas and after eating a couple of chewy things I prayed my chicken had been cooked properly. It was tasty and all but I was a little concerned.

Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By auto p |

Nothing not to like about this food or service! Love breakfast, love dinner, love the steak. very clean!!!!!!

Great Texas Mex

By Mac D |

Very good meal. Lots of variety ranging from tasty to fire hot. Highly recommend the chili con queso. Service could have been better. Very slow.

Good drinks and enchaladas

By Steve W |

My buddies and I went here after checking a high end home theater store nearby. Drinks were good enough for me to order a second (rare for me) and the enchaladas were better than I expected. Solid service and a nice vibe to the place. Worth going again.

Stop looking for dinner ideas RIGHT NOW

By aerainier |

If you are considering a few different mexican places to eat in Austin, please.... take my advice. First off, get dressed. Then, get in the car. Finally, drive here. BEST FAJITAS I HAVE EVER HAD. Sorry for yelling, but I have had fajitas everywhere and the fajita meat here is by far the best you will ever have. The entire meal was spectacular. My only complaint was that they didn't have a Lupe Tortilla closer to our home in Fort Worth. Margaritas were amazing. Queso was great. The staff was fantastic. The manager came by and brought us some fajita meat to sample and we were amazed by the flavor. We will have to make many more trips to Austin just for this place.

Slow service with average food

By KidInfiniti |

I took family here on a Sunday afternoon. I have visited a Houston location several times and enjoyed each visit. This location was terrible. Service left a lot to be desired, waiter seemed to be in a bad mood, food was average at best. If 2 family members ask what is wrong with our waiter. That is not a good sign. If an entree includes rice and beans, you don't deliver beans 5 minutes after entree. Also, I would lay off the lime marinade a bit. Too much cheese on entrees. The best part of the meal was the overpriced queso. I will avoid this location in the future.

Yummy

By VitoFLV |

Tamales enchiladas. Best dish in town. Thank you Sam for the recommendation. DoubleTree your amazing,

Great Mexican Food at a Great Price

By Talon38 |

Please see my review of the other Lupe Tortillas in Austin. Both are identically excellent with excellent service and food. It's one of those "chains" that prides itself on excellent quality at every location. We go there knowing it will be great!

Lunch

Best Beef Fajitas Ever! Hurry up and open in the DFW Area- we’ve been waiting 4+ years! Every time we are in the area we make it a MUST STOP!

Great brunch

By Bryan C |

My family and I love to visit for Sunday Brunch. The food is always great. Sometimes it takes a bit to get seated since every place is short on staff lately. My partner and I generally have Carne Asada and eggs then oddly enough we split an order of pancakes. The kids always have the pancakes which are some of the best weve ever had. Weve been several times for dinner as well and always had great food.

Muy Buena Comida Mexicana !!

By Jim O |

The Austin, TX location is clearly the best of 4 locations I have visited. Chips and salsa are much fresher and the service at this location is always over the top. Very solid 4 stars for their Tex-Mex fare.

A great night out thanks to Lupe's

By Lakerat789 |

A business client and his g/f travelled down from Dallas and insisted we eat at Lupe's since he'd been to the original in Houston and it was one of his favourites. After reading the reviews on Yelp for the Austin location however, we tried to pursuade him to rethink as the reviews were extremely unflattering, he insisted we stick to the plan. Our name went on the list for a table of 8, right in the middle of friday night dinner rush and the place was packed. If you're in a hurry or likely to get annoyed by a long wait for a table - then go somewhere else. it's packed, it's popular..get over it. Waiting in the bar it was standing room only, getting drinks took a little time purely because of the chaos but their fresh lime margarita's were great and worth the wait. Table ready we sat and ordered promptly and considering how busy the place was - our food was prepared pretty quickly, my wife stomping for the stuffed poblano was warned up front by our server that it would add 15 mins to her wait time as they make them fresh on order - not pre-prepared and just wanted to double check. I had the bacon wrapped jalapeno shrimp, the other guests ordered the fajitas, everything was perfect, it was all delicious. The fajitas are a little pricy but absolutely well worth it. 10/10. Same goes for the wait staff, the manager who came over to discuss the marinade for the fajitas and the bar staff. We eat out 2-3 times a week and normally hit the hole-in-the-wall mexican restaurants rather than the snazzy more pricey versions, but given a choice on a friday night between say a TGI and Lupe's - this wins hands down. Our meal plus drinks came out to around $50 and it was worth every second of the wait and every bite of the meal.

Surprisingly good!

By tacgaines |

I went with a friend to Lupe Tortilla's in Arbor Walk for an early dinner. The restaurant was already crowded at 6 p.m. I was not expecting much from a chain Mexican restaurant, especially in Austin where we have tons of locally owned, great homemade Tex-Mex choices. However, it was surprisingly good. The chips were light and the salsa was different but tasty. The "salsa" was definitely not like the "hot sauce" were are used to in local restaurants. They serve a bowl of beans along wit the chips and salsa which was unexpected and good. The nachos were good and were served with lots of jalapenos which we appreciated. The tortilla soup was excellent and served in a bowl as big as a mixing bowl. It was a lot of soup! Overall, we were pleased with Lupe Tortilla's service, food and atmosphere.

North Austin Tex-Mex.......worth the visit.

By MAB82 |

Stopped by Lupe Tortilla while visting in Austin. Being from San Antonio I have plenty of Mexican and Tex-Mex options, and would say this is a place you can't go wrong. For a change of pace from most other restaraunts, chips are provided with a tasty chunky salsa and borracho bean salsa......both very good. Chris provided a great recommendation of the Barbacoa Tacos which are made with their homemade corn torillas. Order with some extra cilantro and this makes a great meal. Look forward to visting again and trying some of their other menu items.

Big portions

By George M |

Great chips and tostadas and a very nice bar and selection of drinks. Their strawberita was delicious and not watered down. I had the grilled chorizo shrimp and it was good. Our server was excellent . I didn't get his name but his accent sounded Russian.

Just ok as best

By FLtravel0330 |

Went here at lunch to meet an old high school friend. Ordered off lunch menu which was limited. Nothing great. Other dishes served at other tables looked much better. Must have ordered off the main menu. Go somewhere else! Lots of choices for local dining in Austin.

Really good tex mex

By NJ B |

The food was so good we came back a second time on our last visit to Austin. Delicious steak fajitas and veeeeeery good margaritas.. The staff are great, the food is great.....just go, enjoy !

ok foods, the wait was awful long

By theBuyerGuys |

we visited on 2/27/2016 and waited 15min before we sat to the table and 45min later the foods we order came out and even wrong dishes. The only thing that we agreed and like about this place is the food came out HOT. The Fajitas is ok but very expensive compare to papacitos. We like Mexican foods and i don't think Lupe Tortilla make it our fav list.

Fajitas and Margaritas

By linzraye00 |

My husband and I go here a lot for happy hour. We also get the beef fajitas. They are simply the best. My favorite drink is the skinny margarita. Everything on the menu is good - I also love just getting the beef nachos.

Great food

By luvsmntry |

We had lunch today, although a little on the expensive side, there was A LOT of food. The taco salad was HUGE and easily could have been shared, decent sized chicken fajitas on the lunch menu. Service was great.

Beef Fajitas is what to order

By Jodi D |

Business lunch, place was packed but they were able to accommodate us. Chips and salsa were very tasty. Ordered the lunch portion for the beef fajitas. Beef packs a lot of flavor and was very tender. The paper thin homemade tortillas were excellent. Would visit if I ever go back to Austin.

Great Mexican Food-yum!

By LittleBennie |

When in the mood for Mexican food, which is always, this is our top choice...love their food. It's really hard to make a choice as everything is so good here, but their steak selections are really great and highly recommend them. They also serve fantastic tropical drinks and you can eat outdoors too. Really love going here with people who are new in town and want to try Mexican food. Always a great time.

Great place to eat for a fast business lunch!

By Crazie1326 |

Great service, wonderful food with huge portions. Happy hour is a must with the a skinny margarita in hand on the patio! Hope to see you there!

Great food - Better Service

By dehill35 |

Lupe’s atmosphere is off the chart. We were immediately seated and the excellent service began. Our group of 10 had the fajita sampler platter. They were fantastic. Cocktails were spot on. Overall, a great experience and well worth the visit.

Good food and drink

By Daddygar |

Stopped in for late lunch and was not disappointed. They have a good variety of tex-mex foods and drink. I had the pick 3 combo, crunchy taco, beef enchilada and tamale. Really tasty. Others had the tortilla soup, which was huge and the cheese enchiladas and roasted corn. The corn was a little spicy.

Excelente!

By Cruz828 |

The crispy thin tortilla chips and chunky fresh salsa were an indication of things to come. For starters, service was first rate. Our waiter was extremely efficient and even offered suggestions on things to do while we were in town. A manager came by and gave us 2 small complimentary tacos containing their signature beef fajitas to welcome us as 1st time guests. The margaritas were outstanding. Their queso with taco meat raises the bar on other quesos found in Austin. The Tilapia Veracruz topped with shrimp and a roasted chili cream sauce was delicious! I will definitely return next time I am in town!

Ok place

By Todd H |

This was an ok place. The fajitas seem to be the thing to get. You order them by the pound (or 1/2 lb). They are pricey. Up to $42. They have great guacamole. Get the large. It doesn't last long. I enjoyed the original Lupe chicken. It was tender and flavorful. The kids enjoyed tacos and chicken tenders. We enjoyed the apple burrito for dessert. A nice place but can be pricey.

Don't go here

By SKyle1010 |

Cannot believe the money spent at this restaurant with all the fabulous places in Austin...bad food, warm beer, mediocre service...lacklustre attempt at upscale Mexican food...whoever was in the kitchen could not have cared LESS about the food presented. YUCK.

Fajitas!

By MRod7381 |

What else can you say about this place? They have the best Fajitas around so tender and juicy, we go back just for them. A order for two can feed 4 people. Love this place!

Best Margaritas!

By Shotlady27 |

The food is decent. Table side guacamole is awesome but have a couple of their margaritas and you won't care about the food. Trust me, they will sneak up on you so beware! If there is a long wait, order a drink then stalk a table in the bar and grab it when the patrons leave.

Favorite fajitas

By bryan w |

Third time here, all very good. They have mastered the beef for fajitas and today we tried the shrimp and chicken also. Flavorful and paired with the tender corn tortillas, amazing. Go and enjoy!

Great Mexican Food Near Doubletree Austin NW Arboretum

By M R |

This is the best Mexican food I've ever had. Yummy fajitas, tasty tortillas, excellent rice and beans. Several salsas with the chips. Our waiter was very helpful and fast. We had a large part of 6 and the meal was quickly served. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Delicioso!

By Adriana A |

Lupe tortilla is my capable replacement for Gringos which isn't in Austin. I love their bacon wrapped shrimp... my favorite dish. They have fresh tortillas, salsa and hot (as in temperature) bean dip. The drinks are good, pretty basic for a Mexican restaurant.

The best guac!! And GF friendly too.

By Suzy A |

I could eat a whole meal of just chips, guacamole, and queso from this place! There menu notes many items that are gluten free or can be gluten free which made it easy for me to eat here.

Great Food!

By nrodz8 |

Love this place to sit, relax and have some great food. It is very authentic and the beans and salsa with chips is a great way to start the eating experience.

Awesome Place

My friend and I went there for lunch a few days ago for lunch. What a nice place. She had the Fajitas, and was quite impressed. Not an easy task, as she is very picky. Great atmosphere but stay away from the patio doors on cold days as you will freeze. No alcohol as I was working that day but from what I saw, the drinks looked great. Fresh tasting Ice Tea, I forgot the name of my lunch but it was Chicken with Chilies on top.....Very Delicious. I will go back.

Underrated

By Owe L |

Still the best texmex restaurant in the world. Thank you for excellent filet mignon fajitas, superb guacamole and the best corn Tortillas!

Great service great food

By blue0skye |

Generous portions and fair price. Servers really make an effort to see if we like our food. The managers also comes by to check with us. Food taste great. The bacon wrapped shrimp is amazing!

Great food

By shnpan |

This was our first visit to Lupe. Be sure to mention that to your server as we received a sample Fajitas plate as first timers. The flautas were very good and one plate is enough to share. The enchiladas were also tasty. The taco was different as it was served on a tortilla that was a small bowl shape instead of the usual taco shell. Service was very good. The chef came by our table to check that everything was satisfactory. We also had a manager visit.

Get the fajitas

By Kathleen C |

After learning that it was our first visit to Lupe Tortilla, our waiter went into a lengthy discourse on the merits of the many types of fajitas they had to offer. We should have followed his advice. Since it was lunch, we wanted something lighter and ordered chili and tortilla soup. Well, my husband can eat anything, if he can put enough fresh jalapeños on it. My tortilla soup was another matter. I'm not sure what the meat was, but it wasn't tender white chicken. It was cubes of some rubbery substance that was barely edible. Fortunately, there was quite a bit of avocado to eat instead. But I haven't mentioned the broth. Somehow they managed to make greasy chicken broth. I don't know how they managed this unless the mystery meat caused it. The assistant manager did offer to comp my meal, but we didn't take the offer. I'd rather just warn others to chose their meals here carefully.

When you desperate for good TexMex. ..

By WVTEX |

Native Texans we love some good TexMex and it is always one of the first things we have on a visit back. Made a quick weekend trip to Austin so ate at Lupe Tortilla. Yes it was a Friday night and yes it was a home game weekend but a 2 hour wait for a table for 6 seems excessive. The chips and salsa were much better than we can find in the east. Food was good and large portions. Drinks were just okay but hey it was real TexMex so I can't complain to much.

Tasty margs n food

By BeachbumAggie |

Very Tex next, pretty good chips n salsa, nice handmade thin big tortillas, good fajitas. Smothered chicken was a hit. Strawberry frozen marg was best I've tasted in a long time. Good spot for a large group and huge portions.

Authentic Mexican Food

By mkpingree |

Authentic Mexican food and authentic Mexican beer. The place is always busy but is always worth the wait cold beer on tap or in the bottle. Margaritas are awesome. Reasonably priced entrees and extras. Tortillas are huge, thin and totally delicious. The fajitas as well as the steak lupe are worth the money.

Good Mexican from a chain

By ronniew666 |

This place has consistently good Mexican food. And it is a chain. Prices are reasonable. The servers though are hit and miss. Our last server was present and that is about all I can say. Definitely give it a try if you don't have your favorite Tex-Mex place.

Good food in a pleasant atmosphere.

By Khandih |

My husband and I had lunch here today. He had the pork carnitas tacos and I had a puffy taco and a beef enchilada. Everything was good.

Good Food, Good Service

By Cy2015 |

Friends who live in Austin wanted to meet here. My first time. Very friendly and efficient service. Food was better than normal Mexican food. Nice place

Fun Atmosphere and Great Food

By teachkindy |

The food is great, the decor is whimsical. The fajitas are unbeatable. This is a restaurant that is always busy and there's a reason for that. The kids menu is extensive. This is a great restaurant for kids and adults alike.

Severely disappointed

By MAX B |

We, a group of 25 people, first tried to reserve a room with Lupe @701 South Capital in Austin, but were told that they don't take reservations. We then made reservations with Lupe @ North MoPac for October 3. We called three times, the last time the afternoon of October 2, to confirm. When we arrived they had no reservation. Total confusion, asking us what phone number we called (only one number listed on their webpage). Most everybody at Lupe appeared in training. They confirmed the terms of our reservation agreement, but claimed that they had no contract on file and thus they couldn't accommodate us. After extensive wrangling with these people they finally set up a room for us. The food was served belatedly. It was okay, but not great as at Lupe in Houston. They are also expensive. They charge $3.35, plus tax, for a glass of ice tea made with tap water. Lupe in Austin is scratched from our list of restaurants one can work with.

Impressed with this place

By mdbIV |

Well it wasn't that I thought it wouldn't be good. I just thought it would be average since it appeared to be a chain. But I was proven wrong. The Tex mex meal of "the Juan" was very good! The beef had a very good spice to it!! The guac was delicious as was the rice and frijoles. Glad we tried it.

Top notch service with a smile!

By Vickie F |

Loved the cozy atmosphere and the food was delicious! Our waiter Adrian was very informative and made us feel very comfortable

Fajitas yummmm

By mbd_mj |

We first visited Lupe's in Houston and were very happy to see them open in Austin since that is where our children/grandchildren are living. The blood orange margaritas and the steak fajitas are simply the most outstanding anywhere. The tortilla is almost paper thin and so light - and we have actually ordered them on-line to be shipped to Florida! You can't go wrong.

Incredible Fajitas

By Jim P |

Go straight to the fajitas on the menu. Order more than you need so you can take the extras home. All the meat choices are great. They have the most amazing flour tortillas.

VERY GOOD MEXICAN RESTAURANT

By MeryandLeo |

A typical Mexican cantina atmosphere; noisy and messy. While we were comfortable with the atmosphere and good food and excellent service, it was hard to talk... so for our quartet is a difficult deficit to forgive. Very good for groups and big families. Perhaps, if we go during the week... we’ll try in a near future.

Not bad.

By Lifeontheroad |

Pretty good TexMex. Had the barbacoa tacos, although I wouldn't consider it true barbacoa, more like just shredded beef. Served with beans and rice, both above average. Salsa and chips were good. Good happy hour draught beer prices ($2.50). Service was above average (Jose). Prices were reasonable for area. Worth giving it a try.

Great Fajitas!!!

By JEH-BV |

What a great place. Great outdoor seating area if you have to wait, with an indoor/outdoor bar. Very good margaritas. And, the fajitas (especially the beef) are absolutely the best! Loved the spiced grilled shrimp as well!

Fantastic Fajitas

By Dada the World Traveler |

Excellent Fajitas. Some of the best we have had in Austin, and we have had many. try them. Very flavorful. Lupe offers surprisingly good salsas, home made tortillas and fresh ingredients. Very attentive service. The place looks great and is comfortable. They have a good bar and plenty of Margaritas. Will come back for sure. Many more items on the menu to try.

Wow! Just, wow!

By rendrich |

I am a fajita snob. NOBODY in Virginia can make a good steak fajitas, so I always stick with chicken. On visiting Austin, friends took me to Lupe's. I was skeptical... For new patrons, they offer a free sample of their steak fajitas meat. SOLD! The meat melts in your mouth. It can be cut with a butter knife or your fork. Get the beef fajitas! Best I've ever had and a must-do on all future trips to Austin!

Ole! Really good Tex-Mex and a great staff!

By Texastravelers94 |

SOOO glad to have Lupe's join the Austin scene. Sent several people there already for the great food! Wonderful tamales and I have to say that is one of the main failures in Tex-Mex. These are authentic with a correct balance of meat to masa and the correct size. If you are looking for one of those masa monsters this isn't the place. The enchiladas are from old Texas with chopped, fresh onions on top. Yum! Yum! The staff is wonderful but ask for Jason. Great addition to Lupe-add some restaurants north right away!

Dinner after game

By Dan D |

Very large tortillas but that is about the only good thing to say about our dinner. Salsa and all of our food was blah blah. Wife and I was not impressed. Daughter and grandsons seemed to enjoy the fajitas meal they shared.

Pitiful Experience

By AQueenB |

We took our family of 10 to celebrate my son's birthday. Waited well over an hour to be seated and we were there at 2:30 in the afternoon! Food was mediocre to awful. The restrooms were filthy but I will say they did clean them in the 2 hrs we were there and after I complained. Not worth the time or the money. Better Mexican food at Taco Cabana

Wonderful, fresh food! ❤️

By Rachel L |

First time here...loved the table side guacamole! So good! The flautas were perfection and there were no complaints whatsoever. Service was amazing as well. Great atmosphere...loved everything!

Best smoky charro beans

By STEVE WILSON |

Had the ribs. Way too much to eat. The side dishes were large too. But really loved the complimentary smoked charro beans and chips.

Lupe's Tortilla -- Austin Texas

By vahat1 |

The best fresh Gluten Free Corn Tortillas ever!! Great outside eating & relaxing area. Kid friendly too. Plenty of food to take home for lunch the next day.

Fabulous Texas Mex food!

By AIK71 |

I am eating right now as I write! Seldom I will do so but this place rocks. Although I am Chinese but the spice and meat on hot plate was so good I asked for extra spice sprinkle to add on. There are 3 wraps but the variety filled up the bar table. I almost hesitant to come in cos it looks like it was closing. I am glad I came in. Totally.

Friendly and delicious

By shajijiji |

We visited this restaurant as we were planing for our daughter's graduation. Manager and the staff was able to help within 1 week notice to accommodate 40 people. Nice long tables and we were able to order vegetarian and meat dishes for our family with varied tastes. Not a big wait and the patio seating is very good. Close to highway 1 and 15 minutes from UT Austin.would recommend this for post graduation parties.

Everything was slow but tasty. Oh, except for that raw chicken on the kid's meal

By CentralTXFoodLover |

First, I write my reviews carefully and honestly, and discuss the good and not so good. So here goes. I really wanted to give this restaurant at least 4 stars, and would have done so during the first half of our meal. This place is highly regarded on several review sites, and my son was raving about their fajitas as we walked in. We arrived at a peak time, 6:30 pm on a Saturday, so we were told we would have a 30 to 45 minute wait. No big surprise. We came back after about 25 minutes and were seated. So far, so good. The place is huge, packed, noisy, and interestingly decorated in a slightly tacky, old Mexican business signs on the wall kind of way. Fine. The waiter appeared immediately, and was ready to take our order as soon as we had decided. Looking good. Then, we waited and waited, for about 40 minutes for our entrees to arrive, with three young children getting very antsy at the table. We decided there was little wonder why there was a line to get in, since they were clearly not capable of handling the workload in getting the food out, and everybody was taking up tables waiting for their meals. The food finally arrived, everything looked really good. Everybody had to wait a few minutes to eat, because all the dishes came out piping hot, as they should be. Fajitas were truly superb. The special Hatch chili pork stew was very good, but not in the same ballpark as Chuys' Hatch chili chicken stew in spiciness or flavor. Tex-Mex entree was above average. Kids meals looked fine, including some impressively large chicken breast strips my granddaughter had ordered from the kids menu. After we had all been enjoying our meals for several minutes, I noticed my granddaughter gnawing around the edge of a very large piece of chicken breast. This seemed a bit unusual for her, but it was a very large piece. A few minutes later, she said the chicken was not done, and handed us the piece. To our shock, this was not just underdone, it was actually completely raw, and still somewhat cool. In total, I would guess that there was a good 4 oz of completely raw, fully pink chicken meat that was left after she had been trying to eat around it. She had clearly eaten a fairly significant amount of undercooked meat before she told us about it. We called over the waiter, who immediately whisked the entire plate away. I later wished I had thought to take a picture of it so I could post it below. Within two minutes, the manager came out and apologized, said this is very unusual, and that he was heading to the kitchen to meet with the cooks about what went wrong. He then went on to try to explain it away, that there is some risk from eating undercooked chicken but that this had been frozen so was less risky. I explained to him that I am extremely knowledgeable about food safety and foodborne illnesses. He advised watching her carefully and gave us his card to call if she became ill, and apologized again. They brought out some mac and cheese, since our granddaughter had inexplicably lost her appetite for chicken strips at that moment. By the time it came out, we had pretty much finished our meal and she barely ate any of it. As anyone who eats at restaurants knows, there are occasional undercooked, or poorly prepared meals. We really don't like to complain, and many times, we don't even mention minor problems to the staff. However, when we do, we have almost always received some sort of at least token compensation for the poor service, such as a complimentary meal, dessert, or occasionally the entire order was free of charge. Not here, after the most egregious food preparation error I have ever encountered. Not even an offer of a free dessert. When the bill came out to me, and I was shocked to see that the kids chicken meal was not even taken off the bill. We were all dumbfounded. I wrote on the bill that we would definitely NOT be paying for the raw chicken, waited another 10 or 15 minutes for the waiter to pick up the card, and he later came back for the signature with the chicken meal taken off, slightly apologetic but not appropriately so. So, we will be watching our granddaughter very carefully for the next 3 to 4 days, the typical incubation period for Salmonellosis and other related food-borne diseases. This will be a serious disease if she gets ill. We may have to take her to the ER, or at least urgent care, thanks to their poorly prepared food that they actually had the gall to leave on the bill for me to pay. Our granddaughter will probably be fine, but I can assure the manager that he will be getting a call from the hospital if she gets sick, whether it is in daylight or at 2 am. That medical bill they will be receiving will be several times more than their loss if they had even comped us the entire bill. To the cook, I hope you sleep well. I wish we had requested you to come to the table and eat the rest of the raw meat. It might help you remember next time, particularly after 3 or 4 days of fever, severe cramps and diarrhea, and an ER visit for IV fluids and antibiotics. So, I don't care how fine and dandy your fajitas are, we will not be darkening your door ever again, and will make sure to recount our experiences to all our friends who visit Austin. There are plenty of great restaurants around this city without having to go here.

Long wait, but VERY good food

By crusadercc |

I suppose we should know better, but we tried to eat there on a Saturday night (6pm) with a group of 13. They don't take reservations, so we took our chance and went anyway. We ended up waiting over 2 hours for a table (no buzzer system - you get a number and have to watch the LED sign on the wall like the post office). On the plus side, the food was VERY good! My wife and I split the 1/2 lb fajitas ($20), and finished it off. The 1 lb would probably have leftovers. One of the benefits that isn't mentioned is you get free unlimited toppings for the fajitas. Helps make the price worth it! The icing on the cake for us was our server, John. He was very attentive, very polite - and memorized our party's entire order!!! Thirteen people!! Holy cow...didn't even realize that was humanly possible. John really made it a great visit for us and the rest of our party. Cross your fingers you get him when you go!

Mexican Food Lovers MUST Try This!

By Jim P |

My daughter took my wife and I to lunch at Lupe Tortilla and we immediately knew we had found a new top spot. The mixed fajitas were INCREDIBLE! This is definitely a NOT TOO BE MISSED restaurant.

Yummy fajitas!

By Gloria L |

While we ordered soup and salad, we got tasters of beef fajitas. They were very tasty. The chicken tortilla soup seemed heavy with a red chili. The peppers were good, not over cooked but just right. The salad was fresh and delicious. The spicy beans and hot sauce were good with the tortilla chips. We tried their homemade flour tortillas and they were really good.

Dinnet

By Jason N |

Best beef fajitas period, excellent complimentary beans, the street corn is also fantastic, expect to pay more than average but well worth it with food and excellent service, long waits on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Great, authentic Mexican food

By Lori095 |

The food was fresh and really good. The service was great. If you like Mexican food then this is the place to go.

Good - but frustrating!

By luvplayacar |

Okay - I'm a HUGE FAN of Lupe Tortilla's - I started eating at the original Houston location ages ago and have continued my love affair over the years and with various locations. You'll never taste better corn tortillas and beef fajitas (it's rumored they are marinated in lime juice.) But I'm getting to the point where it may be better if I just order my fajitas to go. I've eaten at the Austin Arborwalk location a couple of times and the Westlake location once and both locations I've been directed to the bar to wait - even when there were plenty of tables available to be seated. Now, I don't mind a frozen margarita to wash down my Tex Mex - but I do mind a gimmick to get me to order a drink and I'm starting to wonder if there is some funny stuff going on... Just seat me at my table and serve me those delicious fajitas and make this girl happy!

Very Surprising!

By Dale H |

So we actually had this catered at work yesterday 1/13/2016. My first impression was eh Mexican food ( because i am from California and it seems like it Mexican food just is not the same in Texas) but wow i was surprised. The Tortillas were fresh and made in house . The meat was very good and seasoned great. I mean this was catered so actually going in and getting it fresh must be even better. I will defiantly make a trip to dine in very soon.

Good food yet it really wasn't worth the long wait

By mickeytrj |

I have to admit that I've been to these restaurants a few times around the Austin–San Antonio area. The food is great and all but I honestly don't think it was worth a two and a half hour wait for. I know it was a Saturday night, waiting was obvious since I was with a party of thirteen people, celebrating a cousin's birthday. Yet we witnessed two larger parties who were seated before us. What's worse is that we didn't get seated together and had to have separate tables on two different sides of the restaurant; not to mention the service was atrocious. By the time we left, it was nearly midnight and we couldn't be able to go anywhere fun for the birthday boy who was super frustrated with how he had to spend his whole evening waiting for nothing.

Fabulous Dishes and Fresh Salsa

By JDSoui |

Normally do not eat at chains; however, Lupe has a fabulous reputation and it was close to the hotel for work. The service was spot on and the food delicious. The spicy chicken with the jalepeños and habaner peppers was savory. The salsa and chips were fresh.

Fajitas are very good

By MEGADAN |

Service was attentive and the fajitas were very good. The beef was tender and perfectly cook. The fixings were plentiful. The Margaritas were tasty but on the small side.

Delicious. Worth the wait

By RickBeaulieu |

The fajitas were to die for. Excellent TexMex. Good service, but you will probably wait for a table. Go ahead and wait, you'll be happy you did.

Waited 45 minutes for my breakfast

By WanderingWayfarer |

Waited 45 minutes for my breakfast order. Our order was dropped off at the table next to us first, then after it was remade I got the wrong plate. Waited another 15 minutes to get scrambled eggs and bacon. On a positive note, salsa and beans they give before the meal were excellent. My husbands breakfast taco were huge, more like burritos.

Consistently Great

By Sandi R |

I first started eating at Lupe's in Houston while there for the annual quilt festival. I was so excited when they came to the Austin area. I have been there for happy hours and for meals and it is always great. The wait staff is personable and knowledgeable about the menu. Last night we were dining with friends and had a great time. Although the restaurant was crowded we never felt as if we were rushed. Our food arrived at the same time and everyone raved about their choice. Of course I could go just for the warm bean dip.

best beef fahitas!

By austinana |

We have had several dishes here, but once we asked the server what his favorite was...and he said the filet mignon fahitas. We tried it and now we get it almost every time. We also just tried the regular steak fahitas and they are also soooo good. Lime tangy taste and excellent steak. I usually always buy chicken rather than steak, but Lupe's is the BEST.

Very good food and service

By Holly Z |

This was our first time here, and we brought family visiting from out of state. So glad that we chose to come here! It was really good. I only wish that we had tasted the beef fajitas before we ordered- they are fabulous! My only complaint was that my dish arrived without the shrimp it was supposed to have on it. But that was promptly remedied by a manager. Tasty margaritas and amazing home made tortillas. We will definitely be back

Lettuce be perfectly clear

By markpM4462RO |

Sadly I don't have many good things to say about my visit to Lupes. But let's start with the good stuff. The queso rocks. Creamy and flavorful. Good stuff. Same with the guacamole. Moving on... The chips are too thin to actually scoop any of the aforementioned dips without crumbling into the bowl. The restaurant is very fond of iceberg lettuce. It is finely shredded and used to inflate the visual appearance of almost every dish. It's piled high on tacos to give the illusion that the overpriced items might actually be of appropriate value. The taco salad, granted should come with lettuce, is served in a very large bowl. Again the shredded lettuce attempts to support the illusion of value. Piled high on the bottom of the large bowl so the sparse other ingredients appear to be plentiful. The other ingredients, supported by these deep beds of comfortable fluff, were really good. The Carnitas were excellent and the mahi mahi was too It's just disappointing that the kitchen attempts to use this bait and switch routine as a means to justify the high prices.

Great Fajitas!

By MissTexas |

My son & I have patronized two locations in Austin on several lunch dates. We always opt for the fajitas by the pound. Id told my husband we needed to try it, as we are ranchers & raise our own beef. We are very discerning about beef, and have had many sub-standard experiences. Having said that, I'll tell you I've never been disappointed in the quality of the beef fajitas we've ordered at either location. When my husband ate here with me this past month, he ate the entire pound of beef fajitas, with the exception of my one small taco. We like that everything is served at once on the table, and each person puts as much, or as little of the ingredients they choose. There's cheddar cheese, lettuce, pick de gallo, sour cream salsa. The flour tortillas are about 12" in diameter & very good! The chips are nice& thin & the salsa is great. The fajitas have a nice lime juice taste to them. My husband d enjoyed his Margarita on the rocks , & my tea was great. We've never been disappointed , whether I've dined with my son or my husband. Give it a try!

Great Mexican

By Greg H |

We were in the Austin area and stopped at Lupe Tortilla for dinner. The food was excellent. We started with the table side guacamole. You can't get any more fresh than this. Outside of needing a little salt (and that's just me) I loved it. I had the cilantro jalapeño chicken and it was amazing. Not too spicy and tons of flavor. I also tried the fajita beef and it was excellent. The marinades used here make a big difference. Definitely would recommend.

Get the Steak Fajitas and don't look back

By Matt H |

Seriously, maybe the best steak fajitas I've ever had. I don't even know why anyone would bother with anything else on the menu. The corn tortillas are unbelievably good too--homemade and kind of on the thick side--sturdy enough to hold up to the huge amount of steak you can load them up with. I would go there again in a heartbeat. This is not cheap Tex-Mex at all--actually on the expensive side of things.

Awesome fajitas!!

By TripNAustin |

We ordered the beef fajitas for dinner. My husband and I shared a 1 pound order and we had plenty of leftovers to take home. The meat is sooooo tasty and the homemade tortillas are yummy!! The Queso is great too! Fun atmosphere and large patio. You will not be disappointed!!

Excellent food, great service, large menu very reasonably priced.

By Sheldon G |

The place was very busy, but service did not suffer. They served us as a table of 11. All the food came out hot. Everybody remarked how good it tasted. The restaurant is in a mall, but don't let that fool you. Not at all a typical chain.

Large portions high price Tex-Mex

By Jim N |

Lupe Tortillas is a Tex-mex Chain similar to Pappacitas. Chips, salsa and charro beans are good starters. Pretty big menu from Tex-mex plates to grilled specialties like fajitas. Chicken, shrimp and steak dishes are good with an average cost of $18-$24. Service is pretty good most of the time. Often have wait on weekends.

Great Food and Service

By Steve D |

This was my first visit to Lupe's but not the last. I ordered the Tacos al Carbon with chicken and the meal came with complimentary chips, salsa, and charro beans. The chips were fresh, thin, light, and delicious. The salsa was fresh with just the right mix of ingredients. The beans were seasoned with bacon and jalapenos to make a delicious dish. I also tried the queso which was thick, cheesy, and delicious. The entree was huge! It was a large platter with tasty refried beans, good rice, and taco toppings which included lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and guacamole. The tacos were large with big juicy strips of grilled chicken breast. They do not have sweet tea- boo. The service was very friendly and fast as possible. The only hold up was from the kitchen. The price seemed a bit high for a couple tacos with beans and rice even though the portions were large.

Good Tex Mex, Slow Service

By Marshall T |

For a chain restaurant Lupe Tortilla was OK. I went to this restaurant for lunch with 4 other people. It took about 15 minutes before we were seated, although I saw plenty of open tables. It was possibly an issue with the wait staff or kitchen because after we ordered our food it took an inordinate amount of time before it was served. Once it arrived the food was tasty. Everyone enjoyed their selections, but if you are in a hurry for lunch or expect it in a reasonable amount of time I cannot recommend this restaurant.

horrible portions

By Jaime R |

this place is a rip off , I placed a order for fajita nachos $25 , i got ten indivisual chips with a couple pieces of avacado , spreaded beans and 5 pieces of cut fajita , i ask to speak with manager and i asked him was this a mistake and he said no, please you guys avoid this place

Great Mexican

By leven4all |

We stopped in for lunch based on the reviews. We really enjoyed the salad with avocados and poblanos and puck de gallo. Absolutely delicious and it was a very generous portion. My husband enjoyed the chicken burrito too. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive.

Authentic and honest

By enur1979 |

Nice restaurant with decent seating organization. Large menu with plenty of options, should satisfy most people. Works for both families, couples and groups. One of the best Mexican restaurants in the area.

Great place to meet friends

By David W |

Good family place or great place to meet friends. Great food and good beer selection. They also have a nice patio area but Austin doesn't always have good patio weather. My usually problem is over eating, like now.

Average

By tracywpaul |

I was hoping the food would have been great, but their guacamole is one of the worst I've had. The carni soft tacos, meat was tough and dry. Their prickly pear margaritas were almost too sweet. Server was efficient, but had a hard time heating with the music playing so loud.

Don't go for lunch

By Jill H |

I have gone to Lupe Tortilla twice for lunch with coworkers. The service is ssslllooowwwww and terrible. I would think that restaurants would know that during the work week people might have limited time for lunch and prepare for that with speedy lunch options. Not Lupe Tortilla. We got seated fine, but it took a while for the sever to arrive, a while to get our order taken and then over 35min to get our food. To get the check and pay was another long ordeal. We were there for an hour and 20min each time! The first time we went we thought maybe they were just having a bad day and surely it wouldn't take that long to have lunch normally so we gave it another try. Some experience. The server was MIA most of the time, 2 people at our table had empty glasses the entire meal. No refills of water or tea after the first delivery. We had to ask twice for the check and then the guy screwed up our check and he was gone for 10 more min to fix it. Just bad service. I've been to other busy restaurants at lunch that seem to handle the crowd and get people moved through just fine. It's too bad because the food is good. Just not worth the pain of the service. Many other places to go that you can do in a lunch hour.

One of my new faves in Austin for Texmex

By 53TXTraveler |

It didn't look like much from the street but since we had never been here before we decided to try it. We were really glad we did. This place has the coolest decor. There are pendant lights over booths covered with Mexican hats. The walls are loaded with metal bugs, iguanas & other Mexican art. There are Mexican pots, wooden cats, metal musicians, colored lights & a large Mexican sculpture on top of the bar. The outdoor patio also has cool landscaping. The food was really good, too. The pico served with chips was very tasty & they also had some sort of bean dip with whole beans, cilantro & bacon to put on the chips which was delicious. We both ordered flat enchiladas. Not what we expected - not like regular enchiladas - they were four round tortillas with meat & onions covered with chili con carne & cheeses, stacked on top of each other & very delicious & filling. For an extra price, I substituted queso for the chili con carne on top, which was to die for good. Also had a mango margarita which was not only good but loaded with alcohol & topped with a cherry & a large slice of fresh pineapple. The only negatives is that it's very dark with mood lighting so hard to read the menu, the menu is not as extensive as some local restaurants and there is always a wait, even late on a Thursday night. We waited about 15 minutes. However, we watched as tables were cleared fast & new people seated almost immediately. Also our server was very good, despite it being crowded. So if you can avoid weekend evenings & go when it's not as crowded, then this place is truly a cool place to go with great atmosphere and great food.

Lupe fantastico!

By Glfrump |

Met a coworker there at 230pm . Great service and Mexican martini at the bar . We got a table and ate had fantastic fajitas! The small fajita sample was the perfect teaser. We had more than enough for our 2 1/2 people . The transition from bar to table was a but awkward . Closing one tab then opening another tab. Our server I believe "Sarah" rarely made eye contact and you could tell she did not want to be there . Way cute atmosphere !

Very good fajitas.

We visit this place for good fajitas, busy and noisy but food overall is good, service is also good with plenty of room and outside seating. Best for fajitas in my opinion.

Great Fajitas

By Texascowboy3600 |

Made a trip across town with 4 friends to have their great fajitas. We have been here several times since they opened and have never been dissapointed. The fajitas and housemade tortillas are always great. The other 4 people all had different entrees and said they were good. For me, fajitas and queso are the only things we have ever ordered (other than modela beer of course). Worth a special trip for thir fajitas.

Best beans in town

By papawdowns |

With your chips you get salsa and beans - beans an chips - who would have thought that would be so good. Wife had tortilla soup - very good -I had the taco salad - very generous serving - we'll be back!

The best Mexican food ever!

By ConnieH35 |

I do not know what makes their food so much better than other places, but it is awesome. It was recommended to us by a local, and we had our doubts. It is great!

Great food! (The wait was worth it for me!)

By Samantha S |

I went to the Lupe Tortilla located at Arbor Walk at around 1:30-2:00 pm on a Saturday. I thought I had beat the lunch crowd, but it was packed when I got there. I waiting about 20 minutes for a table, but it was worth it. The Nico plate that I ordered was delicious! I am used to eating the "Chili Queens" type of Tex-Mex from San Antonio, and this reminded me of that food and my grandma's home cooked enchiladas. Will definitely come back here again!

Nice Mark Up on your drinks.. Seriously??

The location is perfect from where my office is at 360/Bee Cave Rd. Which is convenient if I would be in the hood. I have made it out a few times now for different reasons. First time in it was a boozy affair, hanging at the bar with some work colleagues. I enjoyed the margarita's. The second time in, it was for lunch, a quickie lunch was planned, however it being close to Friday, we decided to have a rita rocks along with our meal. I opted for the enchilada and another Rita, my colleague hit a burrito i believe. And another Rita. They have these large Rita's are priced well and go down even better. Needless to say our late lunch ended up being HH and then almost dinner time. The enchy was tasty as good as I have at some of more favorite haunts. Chips and Salsa's were fresh. Third visit was with the misses.. and again for drinks (I'm detecting a theme here) and we indulged in Queso and simple bean and cheese nachos. We like simple things like old school nachos. In a time before guac/beef or chicken options. Lupe delivered again. It is nice to know that there is another option near my office. PS, they will call a cab for you... ahem.. A recent follow up: Oh Lupe... shame on you. Perhaps it is wrong to have a Jameson shot in a Mexican Food restaurant. Well at least you make it feel wrong. $7.75 for a Jameson shot during Happy Hour no less. Let's do the math. A 500ml bottle runs $36 at Specs. You can get 17 shots plus 1 ounce out of that. That would bring your cost to $2.11 a serving. Your markup of $5.64 a serving is frankly absurd. Actually shame on me for not asking before I asked for one. Albeit, I can generally find Jameson for $6.50 in most places, $5.50 even a few times at local low key establishments, but I don't ever recall being hit up for $7.75 a 267% markup. I guess you need to have a markup like that in order to afford the complimentary charro beans you provide with your chips and salsa.

Great server but....

My wife and I visited this location on 2/17. The food here and the service is usually great. This particular visit I ordered a Taco meat salad with no tortillas. I’m on the Keto diet and I’m avoiding carbs. When they brought out my salad it had steak instead of taco meat. The manager walked past and asked how our food was so far. I told her that I ordered taco meat and got steak. She apologized, took the salad and told me she would get me another one. I asked that she make sure that it had no tortillas. She said that she would take care of it. She brought out the second salad and it looked ok since I could see that if had taco meat. As my wife and I were talking I noticed I was crunching on what seemed to be chips. I dug trough my salad and noticed it had chips in it. They took the second salad away and brought me a third salad. I checked it in the presence of the manager and it was definitely chip free. This was about 35 minutes after I received the first salad. I expected to get the salad comped but they still charged me full price even though the kitchen had to make 3 salads for me. Our server, Steven E was amazing. I just felt they could have done something for the inconvenience of me having to wait so long to get the right order.

Kitchen Shower for the Bride

By Mimi493 |

On Saturday, April 30, we had a small kitchen shower for a new bride-to-be!! Two of us were there to pick out an out of the way table since we didn't reserve the private room. The food at Lupe's is always delish!!! But our waiter, Simon, made this whole event even better!! He was helpful, he was personable, and he was an excellent waiter! Overall, it was just about perfect!

AMAZING Beef Fajitas!

By Judi S |

The beef at Lupe's is unbelievable! The seasonings (lime? and more) make the mouth water and cry for more! The house made flour tortillas are absolutely wonderful and literally melt in your mouth! The prices are a bit high for Mexican food so we can't go as often as we would like, but we savor integer we do!!

Delicious

By Ron S |

Great bar service, even during the last hour. Eliza was fantastic, had several great recommendations including their beef fajitas and blood orange margarita. The hostess, was also hysterically funny and added to the fun atmosphere. The guacamole was creamy, fresh and delicious and worth ordering. Yummy charros as well.

Yummy

I came here today which is Friday afternoon. The place was hopping and there was about a 20-30 minute for my group. I was already in a food coma before sitting down since the smells of other's food was heavenly. After being seated my friends and I ordered chips, salsa, and guacamole. The salsa was oddly placed on a dish and not the usually guacamole black bowl that I have seen at our places. It still tasted good so that is all that really matters. The salsa was homemade and flavorful with a hint of spice. I ordered the shrimp fajitas. It came with three ginormous tortilla wraps. Seriously one giant one is more than enough for this meal. The shrimp was seasoned well and I enjoyed the flavors. The meal came with refried beans, rice, cheese, salsa, sour cream, grilled onions and peppers, and guacamole. I added extra hot sauce onto my fajitas because well in my book spicier the better baby! One thing to consider is splitting this meal with another person or taking leftover home. Enjoy!

Good food, slow food delivery

By M J |

A co-worker and I had lunch at Lupe Tortilla Arbor Walk on a Wednesday. The restaurant was crowded. We were seated in about 10 minutes. Chips and salsa was delivered quickly. Our waiter took our order quickly but the food took forever to arrive. I ordered the combination plate (tamale, cheese enchilada, tostada, rice and beans) $9.79 . That was tasty. My co-worker ordered the big burrito (with rice and beans). He liked his meal as well. We probably will not be back for lunch because it takes too long.

Great place

This is a chain but it also has great food. Both my husband and I have food allergies that we have to work around. The wait staff worked very hard to ensure our food was allergy free.

First Sit Down Restaurant Visit since Covid

By Susan W |

This is essentially the first place where we have eaten at the restaurant since March of this year. We picked a place that had a large patio and we were not disappointed. The hostess brought us out to the patio that was covered and gave us our choice of tables. There was a heat index of about 107 at that point so we took the table nearest to the door right in front of a huge fan and under the ceiling fan. We were barely seated when Simon arrived on the scene. He had a smile on his face and was very pleasant. Delivering us ice waters immediately while introducing himself and taking our beverage orders-Frozen Margarita, no salt, and a Pepsi. We advised we were anticipating the arrival of 2 family members and would wait to order. He asked if we wanted the floor fan speed increased to max -that ensured our comfort throughout the meal. Chips , salsa and their delicious “dipping” beans were set before us. Our dining partners arrived and Simon returned-obtaining their drink orders and inquired as to our need for appetizers. Know if you’ve ever eaten there before, their entrées are quite large but they have several appetizers that are worth ordering especially if there’s a group to share. We ordered the table side Guacamole (and it’s a definite upgrade to the regular style.) Simon recommended fresh tortillas be served with it- yum!!! We ordered 1/2 flour-1/2 corn. The guacamole was created before us- Fresh avacados, lime juice squeezed over, chopped tomatoes, salt, pepper, fresh jalapeño. We had him give the cilantro to the one person at our table that enjoys it, she could add it to her own serving. It was even better than I remembered it! The fresh tortillas- muy deliciosa! All the better! Our meals arrived timely -so we’d had time to converse and enjoy our drinks and apps! The individual Beef& Shrimp Fajitas with fresh warm tortillas, and a platter of grilled onion, pepper, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce and sour cream. Brilliant! The chicken wet burrito arrived sauced and hot and my spinach and artichoke quesadilla -half corn/half flour....divine. Simon kept the beverages flowing-bringing a fresh soda just because the one sitting had watered down , the ice tea was refreshed many times over. This was a great experience all the way around. Simon made the difference-The customer service A+++.

Good For a Chain

By 2cool4theroom |

When we walked in around 6:15, the only available tables were "high tops" in the bar, which were okay. We sat there for quite a while waiting to order a badly needed drink. The manager told us "someone will be right with you" at least three times before the waiter showed up - 5 minutes after happy hour ended. The waiter assured us that we could get our drinks at happy hour prices. My original Margarita was really good - and it came with a little extra in a carafe, so it was basically two Margaritas for $5.00. Along with the Margaritas, we ordered queso and some corn tortillas. After a short wait, the queso came out, but we had to wait several minutes more for the tortillas. The queso was barely lukewarm when it hit the table, but once they arrived, the tortillas were piping hot and wonderful. The chips, salsa, and bean dip were all good. I ordered a combo of a beef enchilada, tostada, and puffy taco. My husband ordered the barbacoa tacos - both orders came with refried beans and rice. The portions were huge. I could only manage to finish the taco and chalupa, and had the rest for lunch today. All in all, I think the food deserves five stars. Our waiter was good at his job and had a lot of tables to cover. I just can't see taking off a star for a slow start and lukewarm queso. Will definitely eat here again.

Great Birthday Celebration

By Iambigred |

The staff is some of the friendliest I have ever encounter in Austin. They were attentive and efficient throughout the meal. Even during the busy lunch hour, meals appear quickly and at the correct serving temperature. The food as always had great flavor and presentation, but the staff was the standout on this visit. We were celebrating my sister-in-law's birthday and as a treat, she was serenaded in Spanish by no less than six male staff members who all have great voices. A visit from the manager at the end of our meal rounded out a great visit to a great restaurant.

Very Good Food in a Nice Atmosphere

By George A |

The fajitas are very good as are the salsa. The table side guacamole is nice and chunky....different than most and delicious. My wife and have been there several times and we plan on returning.

Good Tex Mex

By David T |

Pretty good Tex Mex food. Lupe's does have some seafood options which broadens the menu from an average Tex Mex. When we visited, my partner order the shrimp stuffed with crab which he enjoyed. I ordered a hatch chile and pork stew which was very good. The queso flameado as an appetizer was very good also. The staff was very nice, but very slow. We will come back.

Good food, uncomfortable table.

By SusanA831 |

Dinner and drinks for part of 7 adults. Squeezed in to table for 6. The chips and guac and salsa were fresh and yummy. Didn't order a meal as the table was so crowded there was no room to eat. Elbow to elbow, even the thinner ones at the table. When are restaurants going to learn that uncomfortable seating leads to less sales. I couldn't wait to leave and couldn't get out of my seat without asking others to get up. Not high on my list to return. Has potential.

Good Food and Service

By Jerry C |

Ate at Lupe Tortilla on Mother's Day Sun May13, 2018 at 5pm. Our cost before tip: $51.80 which we thought was fair value and we left full and satisfied. Restaurant is in a stand-alone building at one end of a large mall. Parking was available, but a bit challenging probably due to the holiday. We found the waiting list to be about 40 minutes, so opted to sit at the bar. Lots of bussle by the multiple bartenders for this medium sized restaurant with outside seating. Several TVs in a sports bar environment kept our eyes busy which was fine since the noise level was a bit high. We munched on chips with two kinds of salsa while we enjoyed a few drinks and looked over their menu with lots of options and readable print. Got our drinks, placed the order and got our food quickly. However, even with 3 bartenders, it took quite a while to actually get our bill after the meal in the busy bar. I had the Big Sucker Burrito $13.95 which was very good and 2 Pina Coladas $8.50 ea. Wife liked their Spinach enchiladas $13.95 and tea $2.95. Food plating was attractive, quality was good and portions were large.

First time to visit. We'll be back!

By Thelayna |

It was good tex-mex with fun atmosphere. Drink prices seemed higher than similar places. Going back for sure!!

Scopin out a popular Tex-Mex restaurant near our hotel

By Kelly B |

We were greeted by our server with complimentary steak fajitas being first time patrons. The blood orange margarita is tasty! I had a cheese enchilada and beef puffy taco. So tasty. And those charro beans, OMG!

Fajitas are good, but very expensive, service was slow in the middle of the afternoon. Arbor Walk is Terrible!

By Gary1836 |

My wife and I went to Lupe Tortilla in the North Austin Arbor Walk Shopping Center. We had to go to Home Depot in the same shopping center and it was about 3:15 PM so decided to go ahead and check them out. There were lots of empty tables as would be expected in early afternoon. My wife tried the combo platter and I ordered the chicken fajitas. (Yes I know chickens do not have a skirt steak, but they marinate and grill chicken breast just like everyone else). It took quite a while to get the food, but it was a lot of food. While waiting the waitress brought chips and salsa as well as a bowl of very spicy frijole beans. The salsa is cooked with lots of diced tomatoes and a healthy dose of cilantro, but not much spicy heat. My wife doesn't like tomatoes that well, but loves salsa when the tomatoes are pureed. The beans however were surprisingly spicy. When the fajitas came, there were red and green sautéed jalapenos on the platter along with the fajitas and caramelized onions. All were good, but I ate a large piece of the jalapeno as cooked jalapenos are normally not that hot. Well, this one was and really put the heat to my mouth. All of a sudden, the beans became tame. So be careful about eating large pieces of even the cooked jalapenos. They have some hot ones. My wife said the food was OK, but without a good salsa, she said her food tasted dry. She normally covers her food with salsa. After we ate, we tried to get out of the shopping center and both Mopac and Braker Ln on the north were parking lots. So was the entire shopping center. It took us almost an hour to get out of the shopping center taking the back exit onto Braker to try to get to Burnet Road to head back South. Horns were honking, people were yelling at each other as few people were letting others merge into the exit lines from the side lanes. Some people just got into the left lane and raced out of line to somewhere in the distance apparently hoping to find a gap where they could cut in. That hour of inching our way out of the parking lot has convinced us never to go to Arbor Walk Shopping Center except early or in the middle of the day. This has to be the worst designed shopping center for getting into and out of anywhere in Austin, or Texas for that matter. It's a shame that with all the land near freeways in Austin, that Lupe Tortillas put their restaurant in such a terrible shopping center. So many people we've talked to avoid the shopping center because of the problems with access and egress.

Delicious & Great Service!

A little to be desired, I'm in retail it takes a lot for me to be put off by anyone. I can appreciate they're busy but really, a lesson in greating customers with more than a finger pointing and the "line is in the back... Really?

Small Portions on the Entree

By gregprupga |

The food tasted good and I ordered The Pedro which is a cheese enchilada, beef enchilada with rice and beans. More than adequate portions on the rice and beans but the enchiladas were very small. Chips and salsa were very good but I did not load up on those, wished I would have as I went away wishing I had eaten more.

$40 lb for Fajitas - I think not

By ATXLnghrn |

Coming from Houston and having eating at the original Lupe's off of Stafford in the late 80's, I know what Lupe's is about. It started out as a great place to get awesome fajitas. We knew then when the wait to get in got longer and longer over the years this place was onto something. As such, the prices went up. It started out incredibly reasonable when the fajita craze was starting to take off but has grown to an unaffordable price point today. It used to be that you could go there a couple of times a week if you wanted to. But now it is relegated to "special occasions". As excited as I was that Lupe's had finally made it to Austin, I was not excited to see the fajitas priced at near $40 a pound. While their food is still as good as it was, I still will only go *maybe* once or twice a year. There are so many options in Austin that Mr. Lupe really needs to re-evaluate his pricing. Although there are so many suckers. including me, that will pay this price, and after the grand opening hype has left, how many people are willing to continue to spend that much?
