Best steak I ever had

By John R |

This place is pricey, but for an unforgettable meal, try their Chateaubriand steak. Atmosphere is good but a bit dated, quiet though for either romance or a business meeting. Service was also good, but the food is the standout here.

For 25 years a destination for Special Occaisions

By Musthavemusic |

We have been coming here for 25 years for birthdays, anniversaries and special treats. It never disappoints. The food is terrific and consistent. We've had other menu items, but always gravitate back to the steak items which they prepare with perfection. Great sides and a lobster bisque that alone will have you coming back. And desserts that we rarely pass up. If i can't eat there, I'll get one togo :)

Old School Steak House

By tazman1099 |

Old school steak house we visited during Houston Restaurant Weeks. Dim lighting and wood panel walls. Friendly waiters and decent food, but not sure it's worth the cost.

Faded glory

By Hermes_NL đŸ‡łđŸ‡± |

The interior and exterior of the restaurant could do with a make-over. The food was very traditional American high end steak and fish. The Chateaubriand was different from what you would expect as a European, the Bearnaise sauce was not great, the peppercorn a bit better. The meat quality was good. Best in my experience were the one scallop, small fishcake and single grilled shrimp starter which was delicious, and the outstanding red wines.

Wow, a real gem of a place

By Peter R Waller |

This place is Al a cart for sure, from first entering you are greeted warmly and shown to your table, offered drinks and given plenty of time to choose from the menu. With all the usual finery you'd expect from any French restaurant, and attention and service to match, the best I have had yet in Houston. We all had steaks of different types and no complaints, accompanied by an excellent Chateaunuef Du Pape followed by some extremely good single malts, made for an excellent night. Will definitely go back for more.

A bit out of the way, and well worth it!!

By MikeStefHalJoJ |

We tend to go here at least once or twice a year to be treated to exceptional service in a very special place. It will be "your table" for the night with no expectation of multiple "turns". Take your time and "dine" with linens and crystal. In our experience, the best "Chateu" in the city. The evening simply flies by. In our opinion, the best steak house in the city.

Great private room

By LCNM19 |

The private room resembles an old cellar and is filled with every type of wine possible. This is very atmospheric. The service looks the same and is lovely and old fashioned. Very pleasant. There was a big group of us so we shared crab cakes and breads to start followed by capers we salad. Then pretty much every one had steaks or the Chilean sea bass. All are large portions and cooked as requested. The sides were all large and tasty. Amazingly some had room for desserts. These were massive and tasty. The food was good. It was expensive so really choose if location suits or you need an atmospheric room for a party.

Lynn's Steakhouse

Gelreat place for that special someone or with friends. Lovely atmosphere and the food and service is exceptional. The prices are higher but very worth it. My favorite place!!

Don't judge a book by its cover!

By Manni B |

Went to dinner here with a few co-workers and a client and the theme for the night was to not judge a book by its cover. Even though this location and building of this restaurant were less than desirable, once you walked in and sat down, you were treated to a nice little quaint, very personal dining experience. The wine list was enormous and had a wide variety of choices. The menu was extensive, with many options for all different tastes. Sides were delicious but the steak was prepared to perfections. Impeccable service and a cozy atmosphere really make this place a true diamond in the rough.

Fabulous Steak

By WillyL |

Went to Lyn's on a company party. I have to say that Lyn's is an undiscovered gem in West Houston. Finally, a steak house that allows the customer to decide the level of salt needed for their taste. Take that Papas and Taste of Texas. You are are salt licks. i would be back but my wife does not like red meat and is turned off by the smell. Too bad. One more thing, just like Papas and Taste of Texas, it is very pricey.

Reserved, tasteful, delicious

By HurricaneFinley |

When your kitchen is being remodeled, you look for places to dine that are peaceful (like a normal home) and serve good food. Lynn's was the right choice for that. The decor of tiny lights entwined with grapevine gave the room enough light; the room temperature was fine (after we asked not to be seated under a vent), and the music was cool, light, jazz. The martini was to my husband's taste. The salads were fresh and flavorful (goat cheese and tomatoes on spinach, berg wedge with blue cheese). They could have added a few more spinach leaves--come on, it's spinach, it's cheap. The steaks were flavorful, tender, and cooked perfectly. I had medallions and asked for just bernaise instead of the trio of sauces offered. My husband had his first cowboy steak and loved the bone-in advantage. The wine list was extensive. The chocolate mousse was very light and full of chocolate essence. Kind and efficient staff, good food, quiet and peaceful atmosphere..it is the anti-steakhouse for those who love good steak.

Excellent steak, Excellent service

By Jerry757 |

Very Nice dinner. I was in Houston and my kids took us here. It is as good as any NY steak house. I had the cowboy steak, med rare, very good. The spinach au gratin is not creamed spinach, but still tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Its a small place, great for something special. Prices are equal to those in NY City. Service was very good and we were not rushed. I would go again for a special occasion.

Nice little gem of a steak joint

By GB_InTexas |

Took clients there as a treat, and the first impression was a typical NYC old time steak joint..dark, lots of wood decor and paintings or lithographs on the wall. The staff was attentive and the drinks came quickly when ordered. They have an extensive wine list. The selection was varied.. Some dried aged, others wrapped for 3 days, but the portions are generous. The filet is thick...looks like a tower on your plate. The Cowboy Rib Eye had the bone still in on, which was pretty good...not the best but was good. The sides are served family style, plenty for 4 people, might be a stretch for 5. The veggies were good, mushrooms were ok, and the potatoes were decent. The table bread was good... Would I go back, yes. Not the best, but a nice place.

glad we tried it but...

By Andrew H |

Im a little conflicted. The service was outstanding! Portions are gigantic. Wine menu is intimidating. Steaks were cooked perfectly, but seemed under seasoned. I agree with another post. Steaks were a tad bit gristly, even the NY Strip. Something was definately off. Potatoes Au Gratin had a good flavor but were very greasy and oily. House peppercorn sauce and blue cheese sauce for steaks both had an odd consistency to them. flavors were there, just odd. Ceasar salad was fantastic. Lobster bisque had excellent taste, but little to no lobster actually In it. May go back , buy at the price point , I expected everything to be more on point.

Very good meat

By TAMAN1951 |

The starters were quite nice and the gumbo was some of the best in town. Nice and thick with rich flavor. The rib eye was great quality and prepared as ordered. The lobster was good quality but very small at 6 oz. Potatoes were nothing special. Service was fairly inattentive. We have had much better. Prices are high for what you get.

The steak was not the highlight of our meal

By Amanda77433 |

I went last night with my husband to have dinner with some of his business associates. As another reviewer noted, this is a place for oil men with expense accounts. I mentioned as much to my husband who laughed (because that exactly described our party last night). To add to that impression, we saw another group dining there from his company. The restaurant was on the smallish side which to me is a bonus. The decor was nice. The ceiling is draped with large brown vine looking things with lights. This adds a warm element to the place. The bar is small but appeared to be well stocked (except that they ran out of Jameson's). The service was good but felt a bit slow. It seemed as though the two bartenders were the only staff waiting tables (this could be incorrect, I was very engaged with my group and didn't pay too much attention to what was happening at the other tables). The appetizer (crab cakes topped with shrimp) and the salad (toasted goat cheese) were delicious, but the steak was only good. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptional. This would be fine except for that Lynn's is a steakhouse. Perry's, Taste of Texas, and Pappas Bros. all serve superior steaks. Additionally, the steaks are all quite large. If you have a really big eater with you then this is a good deal, otherwise, plan on taking home leftovers. In summary, it was very nice and I'd go back, but it wouldn't be my first choice for a steak.

$uperb $umptious $upper

By Bison 405 |

If you have a really generous boss and a big expense account, this would be a great place to impress a major client. The downside would be if you intend to propose to your heartthrob over dinner and take her here, she may assume you can afford a seven bedroom mansion in River Oaks. The food is on the high side of excellent, the service is great, it's quiet, cozy small, real tablecloths, but the bill for two people was roughly equal to the monthly payment on a new Maserati, with no trade-in. That's just a guess, I don't own a Maserati. It's upstairs, (the restaurant is, not the Maserati) and the concrete steps in front look like a wheelchair barrier, but the food is very good, at least what my wife and I had would have Martha Stewart trying to steal recipes. The wine list is about the size of a telephone directory for a medium size town. If you can't find it there you probably shouldn't be drinking it in the first place.

A Birthday Dinner

By BordeauxGuy3 |

I called ahead for reservations, and was promptly accommodated. My partner had been before, and was uncomfortable because the restaurant was so cold, I asked about the temperature and it was a moderate 72. We were seated at a nice table with a full view of the restaurant, and given our menus. I chose a wine from France, and after some looking, they reported they were out of that vintage. I asked for a similar and comparable wine, and was given an alternative, from France in a similar price range, and it turned out to be a nice red wine. They had some 60-90 dollar wines, but many were a hundred or more, some even 500-600 and more. We ordered the pate as an appetizer, and it was outstanding. They make it there on the premises, and have for years. If for nothing else I would return just for the pate, because it was so good. I could make a meal of the pate and wine and bread. So So good. We ordered a fished to share because we were not too hungry. It was well prepared and the split it for us and served the sides split. The waiters were very attentive and the service was good. Some of the prices were a little dear, but a very pleasant experience. I will go again. The manager came by our table and inquired about the service and the food. It was my birthday and he comped a lovely large piece of carrot cake.

Nice and quiet meal

By houstonnative47 |

We celebrated a birthday dinner here during Houston Restaurant Weeks. Walking through the door was like a step back in time into the 1980's. The decor is dark and sort of romantic. We liked that it was quiet, not like the chain restaurants. We all ordered from the HRW menu. Everyone liked everything they ordered. The lobster bisque was very good with a little spice. The crab cake was more on the creamy side and could have used less breading inside. All of our steaks were cooked as we asked and were very tasty. All of our desserts were good too. Our server Danny was very attentive and even gave us a tour of their wine cellar. We would definitely return.

My Birthday

By Anita W |

So sad the manager, Gerry, doesn't care about service. I spoke with him personally 9 days before my BD to special order wine and a small lobster. Told him it was my BD and he said they would even make a nice desert. He forgot the whole conversation. Ruined my birthday and we left without eating. I still haven't had my BD dinner. All he had was a stroppy attitude. I was SO very much looking forward to this once/yr visit, but we will never go back. Even the owner won't contact me.

I’ve been here three times.

By Soutanglie |

I’ve been here three times now. Classical American steakhouse, good service, nice steaks, expensive. First time was as a guest, good steak. Second time, good steak, expensive. Third time, lousy lamb (but beef OK), expensive. Go back? Yes for steak, lamb not.

The bad reviews are old and not the Lynn's I know.

By TlottTexas |

I've been going to Lynn's Steakhouse for years, and I love the food, the waitstaff, and the ambience, among many other things. It's probably my favorite restaurant in Houston, and that's saying a lot. The bleu cheese dressing is fantastic, and the Beefsteak Tomato Salad is to die for. The only time I've ever had a sub par steak (a couple of years ago), my waiter replaced it and took it off the bill. My only complaint is that I work in Algeria a month on and a month off and can't go more often.

Better than average actually

By Michelle |

Our experience here was more accurately a 3.5 and close to a 4. There are far better steakhouses in Houston metro area but there are almost far worse. The scallop appetizer was very good. I would pass on the salad next time. The entrees were better than average but we have also had far better elsewhere. The service was very welcoming and friendly. At times, it was slow but not terribly so. We would return if in the area but would not drive across town to dine here.

Quiet, good service, great food

By draym85 |

Nice neighborhood restaurant. The staff is attentive, but allowed dinner to take place at a pace of my choosing. I would choose this as a place to go if you are looking for conversation, and a relaxing evening.

Great food and wine selection for over 28 years!!!

By Rockdoc7 |

One of the top restaurants in town , whether its superb aged beef or seafood ,like great Chilean sea bass. Appetizers like escargot or jumbo crab cake(among the best ive had) start the meal .The wine selection is huge with hundreds of selections. Make this a definite destination. Service is impeccable with excellent atmosphere.

Fantastic Food, Service, Ambience....Bring your Wallet$$

By Freezeone |

We hadn't attempted to dine at this local favorite in West Houston for 20 years or more since we were chased out of the establishment on a Sunday evening when the maitre d' discovered that one of our male guests wasn't wearing his Sunday go-to-meeting obligatory suit coat. Anyway, we wanted to try it again. The bill of fare is heavy on the aged (minimally 14 days) beef, featuring a "cowboy cut" bone in rib eye etc, but the seafood offerings were amazingly good as well. An appetizer of prawn shrimp, giant North atlantic scallop, and crab cake started the meal, then this diner enjoyed the tempting lobster bisque complete with a dollop of brandy and cracked pepper. For the main course we tried the sea bass, prepared to perfection and shared the Lyonnaise Potatoes, Asparagus, and sauteed mushrooms with others in the party, all served by attentive but respectful waitstaff, then observed the dessert tray with unique cake specialties including New York style cheese cake, a tempting carrot cake, a double chocolate cake, and a cake layers with carrot cake and cheese cake for those that couldn't choose one over the other. Although the wine list wasn't requested, the offerings of wine by the glass produced some great varietals paired with the bill of fare. Be prepared for the guest check and be on notice that parties of 5 or more have an automatic gratuity of 20% already weighing down the final bill. For that special occasion, this is your credible option in the Energy Corridor. Some of us may have to wait for another jingle in the pocket before returning for round 2. Good job.

Very good lobster bisque and steak.

By Steve S |

The atmosphere is great and is perfect for quiet conversations. The service could not be better; everyone makes you feel very welcome.

One thing we noticed is there were no young people or childern there. Older couples,no one had their cell phones out.

By Jill D |

We were celebrating our 35th anniversary. Service was great. Atmosphere was very cozy. The food was not as it was 35 years ago. The steak was tough and the Salmon was pretty blan. My husband uses a walker/cane. There were six steps leading up to the front door and after you get inside there were another 4 steps leading to the dining area. He could not use his walker so people had to help me get him in and out of the restaurant. There is no wheelchair ramp or handicap entrance. This made it very difficult for my husband. Probably will not go back.

Anniversary Dinner

By Terry B |

After driving by for many years always saying we should try. We decided to do it and were very pleasantly taken care of. Nice quiet romantic setting, It is on our list for future celebrations. We were taken care of by Daniel, never rushed, which we liked. Meal was great, steak melted in your mouth. Hugh wine selection, and complimentary dessert to top off our night. We went home satisfied with our selection of a restaurant to celebrate at.

An awesome Steak place

This is a great Steak place with great service. We live to come here. Hot Bread is a must. Also get the spinach. Wow!!! You will not be disappointed

Great Steak and Atmosphere!!

By txheartland54 |

We went here for Administrative Professional's Day and the steak was awesome. There cheesecake and chocolate mousse is really good too! Definitely recommend this place. I have booked several reservations here for other business functions.

Wonderful Food and Service

By Rosalyn D |

Had their delicious Express Lunch. Nothing rushed about this, however. I had a great house salad and excellent Beef Medallions( absolutely mouth watering) fork tender, melt in your mouth, one with Bernaisse and other with Peppercorn sauce. It was garnished with broccoli and carrots. The bread and soft butter was terrific, too. We finished with an amazing Banana Cream Pie. The service was terrific and atmosphere was relaxing and so pleasant. This is such a nice spot. You need to try it even if it's out of your way. You won't be disappointed.

The very best steaks

By barbarabT7555LI |

Delicious steaks. We always celebrate our anniversary and birthdays eating the very best delicious steaks, and the best hash brown potatoes anywhere!!! I've never tasted any better than these. A real must go to restaurant for steaks!👍 And the most friendly service.

Not so Hot

We experience terrible service and poorly cooked steaks. Overpriced and unfriendly staff. won't be back.

Great food, wine and service

By Willem Luuk Nijdam |

We, europeans, visiting our friends in Houston. We were looking for a gozy place, with service and quality. We found this in Lynn's steakhouse, not the typical american restaurant, thank god. We were offered an extensive menu from which we choose steaks and black snapper. We ordered a small and large Filet, a Cowboy steak (!) and fish. Steaks were cooked to perfection and very tasteful. Service bij Joanna was great and she took great care of us. Lynn's has an enormeous wine list, we selected a 2004 Shiraz Kinton. While enjoying our meal, two of us were finished before the other two and as the americans are used they start cleaning the table while we are still eating. My recommendation would be NOT to do that! Furthermore, the wine was 10 years in the bottle so caution on the last drink in the bottle. Recommendation: do not empty the bottle in a already filled class since the last glass of wine is therefore contaminated with residu! For the rest: great food, great environment and great service!! WL

Outstanding Steak with Great Service

By cylconewrestlinginTX |

We dined with another couple for the first time at Lynn's. Our reservations were at 6:30 and I was concerned because the parking lot was empty. We were the first diners seated but before we completed our meal the restaurant was humming. The decor is warm and inviting. Lynn's is perfect for a quiet dinner when conversation is important. They may have a great wine selection but the bar is lacking in creativity. My first mojito went back to the bartender for a makeover. I changed drinks after that. The food more than made up for the bar. I ordered a perfectly marbled and cooked ribeye. Other raved about their veal chops, NY strip, and medallions.

Tasty Steak

By Teresa K |

My husband and I tried Lynn's Steak house out April 26th. We were the first there since we got there before 6 so it was really nice to be the only ones there, it seemed like the whole restaurant was open just for us, lol. The inside is so cozy and inviting. The servers and staff were very quick for anything we needed, and I never had to ask for more tea, because he was always on top of keeping my glass full It's a little pricy but the food and service is great. I love the atmosphere as well. It's a great place to go for a relaxing evening for a good steak.

Excellent food.

By Adam M |

Went there because it was a steak house and close to my hotel. Turned out to be a great meal. First, the bads: my wedge salad had way too much bleu cheese on it (an associate of mine felt the same), it took slightly longer than I would have liked to get our food and the wine list - while comprehensive - lacked affordable options. The steaks, however, were absolutely perfect. Overall, we were very satisfied - I will definitely go back.

Lynn’s is a Steakhouse that should not be missed!

By dmg10120725 |

I have not been to Lynn’s in years and now I am kicking myself for not coming back sooner! The service, food and drinks were excellent! The wine list is huge! Even though the decor is a little dated and the location is a little odd, the restaurant felt cozy and inviting to me. We will definitely be back!

For a Special Occasion, This is a Special Place

By Kurt B |

I wouldn't call us 'Regulars' at Lynn's but it has been a Houston favorite of ours, for many years, even though we have to travel to 'town' to eat there. We have eaten at Lynn's many times. This time is was my wife's birthday and this place doesn't disappoint. A gentleman greeted us at the front door by name and wished my wife "Happy Birthday". I don't think there are any bad tables in Lynn's and we found ourselves at our 'usual' table, again. The waiter (Gustavo) was very friendly and attentive and he was assisted by other staff who brought water, bread etc. We kind of 'over did' it on this occasion but it's kind of hard not too. So we had the crab ball 'specialty' of the evening, as well as the Foie Gras for appetizers. Now, I am NOT an expert, however, the Foie Gras was 'chilled' and I have never had it served that way. It was fine, but it made it made it somewhat difficult to 'spread' on the toast they provide, so I ended up cutting off 'chunks' and putting it on the toast. This may be exactly what you are supposed to do, and it tasted fine, but that was 'different' in my experience. I have usually experienced this as more of a 'paste'. No complaints, however. I also 'blew it' by getting the Onion Soup which sits inconspicuously on the menu but is a for me, is a highlight of every visit to Lynn's. As an entrée, my wife had the 'Surf and Turf' which consisted of a 'filet' and lobster and I had the 14 oz, ribeye as they had nothing smaller. We came upon Lynn's years ago, at a time I was looking for 'aged' beef. Processing 'aged' beef varies a bit from place to place and at the time, I was looking, I found it at Lynn's and one another Houston restaurant. I happen to think 'aged' beef that goes through the 'standard' 'aging' process is about the best steak you can get. Now for whatever reasons, this one was a little less than what I expected and my wife's fillet was perfect. One of things people tell you, is aged beef should be eaten 'medium'. That is what I usually get. This time I went for 'medium rare' the way I prefer most steaks and it was just a touch under expectation which may well have been my fault. It was still VERY good as evidenced by the fact there was very little left when I was finished and I enjoyed every bite. AND, I was 'happy'! We also had the spinach au graten, which were wonderful and one 'serving', easily accommodates two. For desert they brought a tray of fabulous looking 'goodies' from which to choose, however, passed on that. They did however, bring a complementary piece of chocolate Birthday Cake for my wife which again, wished her a Happy Birthday and it also had her name all spelled out in beautifully written, chocolate. So that, with a couple of 'cappuccinos' topped off our evening. I might add, Lynn's has an extensive wine list but we chose 'adult beverages' from the 'ample' bar and they were great. As any place serving 'aged' beef, Lynn's feels a little 'pricey' but we could handle that better than we did. I think the price of the meal was reasonable for what you get, the environment and the quality of the service. Again, it's a special place for us, and the food and service are dependably excellent. Parking is easy as they have a big lot right in front of the restaurant which does not detract in any way from the 'romantic' décor of the restaurant. In fact, it's very convenient. So, we think 'well' of Lynn's and would recommend it for those of us with average incomes on 'special occasions', or anytime one wanted to impress friends, family or working peers. I didn't see anyone in a tie, but I wore a sport coat and my wife was 'casually elegant' as she is all the time. I mentioned, 'romantic' place, didn't I? The point being, we didn't see any 'jeans' although I am not aware of any dress code. We did have reservations, however, we were there on a Friday night from 6:30 - 8:30 PM and there was never a 'crowd' during that time. Still, probably a good idea to have reservations or call them before arrival. We like Lynn's and we will be back.

Great food and cocktails

Great meats and seafood and really good sides. Good for business or date.

A reliable high end steak house

By PrudenvilleDavid |

I have been enjoying top quality steaks at Lynn's for nearly 30 years. The small house atmosphere is posh and romantic, but also well suited for business meals. In addition to prime beef steaks, the rack of lamb is suburb as are the crab cakes and sea bass in case you are not a steak eater. Service is top notch as one would expect it to be. Of course all this comes at a price.

Awsome meat and the Best Gumbo in Houston

By TAMAN1951 |

The steak is great and as good as any top shelf steakhouse in Houston. The Gumbo has a very nice thick gravy type base loaded with flavor and is by far the best in Houston and better than a lot of gumbo dishes prepared in Louisiana on equal footing with Brennan's and that is a tough standard.

Very nice neighborhood steakhouse

By Joe P |

Many other things offered other than steak and all was good, service was excellent, etc. The place has been there for many years. I highly recommend.

Good steakhouse, without the corporate feel

By BradT |

I like Lynn's as a good steakhouse that still feels like a small business. My wife and I had a great meal there for Christmas Eve once, where it felt like everyone in the place, clients and employees alike were in a wonderful, holiday mood. The food is good, and the prices are what you would expect.

Really great service and food!

By Bobdec |

Was my first time here and I have to say very very impressed. Excellent service and really great food. We had the restaurant week menu and it was really nice. Will be back for sure. Also, great wine selection!!

Fantastic steak and gumbo

By busterMilan_Italy |

Excellent seafood gumbo, Napoleon salad (caprese salad) and ribeye steak. The steak was literally meting in my mouth. Service is very good, not too formal and not too aggressive. The only issue for me is the restaurant is VERY dark - this is usual for this kind of "club" restaurants but you literally can't see what is in your plate. it makes it difficult to trim small pieces of fat from your steak properly.

First visit

By boblapoint |

Ok, just ok. French onion soup , good, tomato mozzarella salad, good, spinach augratin, fair nothing special, yellow fin tuna fair, under seasoned, cooked too slow, chewy and under cooked...raw in middle , soy sauce , was just soy sauce..nothing special..service fair ..distracted uninterested..dining room empty on a Thursday night?

Amazing Dinner Amazing Service

By chrisayers327 |

We live close by, and I’d been here for business lunches, but never dinner with my wife. We were both blown away by the quality of the food and the amazing service. The owner came over to check on us several times. We both had steak and they were cooked perfectly. I have a friend from the UK who refers to this as the best restaurant in Houston. I know this is known as an “Energy Company Lunch place”, but give it a try with your spouse for dinner.

Great find one block off Westheimer!

By Patti M |

I took my best friend here for birthday dinner while we were in town for conference. What a find! Family owned Houston standard well established restaurant harking back to traditional steakhouses. The wait staff were informed and very attentive. The menu had good selection of beef cuts, cooked to perfection. Side dishes were wonderful, too. It’s not far from numerous big chain steak houses but the more traditional even quaint atmosphere along with quality...you can’t go wrong at Lynn’s

Local steakhouse delivers the goods!

By poz59 |

Small and intimate old school steakhouse. Cut and dry age their steaks in house. NY Strip 18 oz. was excellent, cooked to perfect medium rare. It had the dry aged flavor and was seasoned with a bit of garlic butter. Ribeye and cowboy bone in ribeye were also great. On special was a 10 oz bone in filet which we didn't order but was a great cut. Several side choices family style. Goat cheese salad was not only excellent but a bit of a surprise in a steakhouse. When you are in the mood to avoid the high profile steakhouses in Houston, give the local steakhouse, Lynn's, a try. It delivers the goods!

Great food!

By GabbyLou3 |

We visited Lynn's for the first time and had a wonderful meal! Crab cakes were delicous, although a little on the small side. Lobster bisque was fantastic! As previous reviewers have stated, we ordered our steaks medium well and they were more on the medium side. However, still tasted great. I agree, the wine list by the glass needs to be expanded. Overall a wonderful dinner and so nice to be close to home!

Best food, service and atmosphere

By Brb |

Lynn's has the best steak and seafood. It is prepared very nicely and is tasty. The bread they serve is very good with the soft butter. The atmosphere is great: lights dimmed down low and there is little noise so you can hear others at your table very well. The only thing that I would say could be improved is more comfortable chairs. The chairs are somewhat hard when you sit on them, but they make you sit up straight, which is good.

Fantastic restaurant!

By Maurice481 |

Most hospitable hosts, the owner and his son! The meal was scrumptious and served with the largest collection of great wines made available to us. Highly recommended; and, will be going back soon.

A hiden gem

By halfNM |

Awesome! We've been looking for a great steak\seafood place closer to Katy and this is it. We relax and sat the bar for an hour even though our table was ready. The service was great and the steak and tuna filets' were awesome. The wine list is out of this world and the dessert's were great. Definitely coming back when we don't want to travel far from the house.

Romantic dinner

By Jace P |

Old school steakhouse in the Energy corridor section of town. The wine list is impressive with several vintages of the same producers in addition to cult wines. The steaks were good not great, the service was stellar.

A neighborhood gem!

By david h |

Great little neighborhood spot that executes classic steakhouse fare very well. Our group of six all ordered steaks which were cooked to perfection. My wife had the steak oscar topped with huge chunks of lump crab meat and asparagus. Their GUMBO was amazing, ranking among some of the best I've ever had. Their wine list was extensive with verticals of many popular producers of vino - both foreign and domestic. I did find it to be a bit top heavy with many of the options hovering well above the $200 mark. It would be nice to have a few more moderately priced options. We went on a Saturday night and the food did take a while to come out. Then again, great food takes time so don't be in a rush when dining here.

Filet too rich!

By BBnE |

Nice steakhouse, a great change from the chains! Simple, olde worlde decor and pleasant staff. Good amuse Bouche freebie - bruschetta with filet - decent shrimp-topped crab cake starter, overly-rich yet under seasoned filet; less butter and more salt and pepper. Will definitely return but considering this is the forte, you want this done beautifully.

overpriced

not great. old, overcooked vegetables, very expensive, everything is a la carte which adds up to a huge tab. small expensive wine portions. not a good valude

A repeat favorite

By caroleiaap |

I've been coming to Lynn's about once a year for about 25 years - my husband proposed to me here 20 years ago, and we usually come for our anniversary or my birthday. The last two years, other events conflicted and we just didn't make it, and I had heard that it "just wasn't the same". But we went on December 30 and it WAS the same, which was fabulous. Service was impeccable. Steaks have always been the tenderest, most flavorful of any of the places we frequent, and I have always loved their house-ranch dressing. My husband intended to save some of his salmon to take home, but devoured every bite. My only teensy complaint is the wine selection by the glass is a little short.

An evening with my Honey

By BordeauxGuy3 |

We were seated in the same table we sat in last time we were here. The waiter approach quickly and asked if we wanted something to drink. I ordered a scotch and Honey ordered a Sauvignon Blanc. We were not really hungry so we ordered the Pate de Foie Gras. It tasted good but was not as creamy as last time. The texture was varied and it had some connective tissue in it. We followed with salads and they were both good but smallish. The Key Lime Pie for desert was the best. Very pleasant dining experience, but I might not try the Foie Gras again. It was inconsistent.

Danger

By Christopher H |

DO NOT GO HERE!!! PLEASE BE AWARE. DANGER********TRUCK BROKEN INTO IN LYNNS DANGEROUS PARKING LOT LAZY CARELESS OWNER!! I went here a week ago and parked right in front of the entrance and was there for about an hour. I saw signs that stated camera security and on duty security guard. WHAT A JOKE! My brand new QX80 was broken into!!! So upsetting. Had no idea this was a horrible side of town. I got there at sundown but when coming out I noticed vagrants walking by my truck one by one. I drove here from cypress because of the good ratings. Food was mediocre and I spent about 350.00 on dinner for two. Turned out to cost me over 1,000 dollars for that dinner after paying for my smashed window. THE MOST DISTURBING PART COMES NOW.. Owner of the restaurant could care less and acted frustrated as he followed me outside leaning into my car saying wow my last smash and grab was over a month ago! REALLY!!!?? ONLY A MONTH AGO!!! To make matters far worse he couldn't even log into his camera system to play back the video so I could see when and who!! He refused to offer any kind of restitution nor did he care what it might do to his reputation! I told him that I will make sure that anyone who reads reviews will steer clear if they want to maintain windows in their car. Don't waste your money or sanity on this run down ghetto neighborhood restaurant.

Best business lunch in Houston

By John Moore |

Lynn's does a very good three course business lunch. It is an upscale place with a small bar topped with wood parquet, and a ceiling festooned with strings of LED lights. We had sassy waitress who kept the meal fun. We all started with the goat cheese salad with cranberries and pecans, and for my entree I chose the Duo of Beef Medallions -- two three ounce rounds of prime tenderloin, one with bearnaise sauce, and one with peppercorn cream. I ordered medium rare and they were cooked perfectly. Dessert was a house made carrot cake with cream cheese frosting that was whipped up to be lighter than the usual cream cheese frosting. After lunch the headwaiter showed me the wine room. Chilled to 58F, it holds their Zagat rated collection of French sauvignons and California cabernets (along with many other). Free parking.

I forgot this restaurant was open

By Allen L |

We have been driving to Brennars, Eddie V's, and Flemings in the City Centre and totally forgot about Lynn's Steakhouse. We were surprised when we visited last night, as it was the same, in quality and service, that we always remembered. My wife recently had ankle surgery, and we were looking for a restaurant with ambiance and "easy in" for wheelchairs. We had the signature spinach au gratin, the petite fillets, and lyonnaise potatoes, and a great bottle of wine! We did not have the Chateaubriand for Two, but the couple at the table next to us did, and they were displaying their "wow" factor on every bite. The restaurant was full, but we could talk to each other without a noise issue. We have eaten at Lynn's since 1986! We will be back, and probably next week. It's decor is somewhat dated, but the wine list, and extensive menu rivals any other steak/seafood restaurant in town. I am embarrassed that I have been away too long. This is a good place without fighting the crowds!

Loved the Old Time Feel!!

By Slip213 |

Great steak and service. Definitely has that old steakhouse feel. Service was outstanding. They were very knowledgeable also. Great wine list. They were having a 30th anniversary and had a great special in October.

I'had better steaks

By Satriale |

The place has a reputation but honestly I've not been impressed by the food. The menu is pretty typical the quality just average. Very good and ample wine selection.

Nice place!!!

By Dfwchristopher |

Visited this place for a business lunch. The place doesn't look all that inviting from the road, but once you entered it was a very quant atmosphere. It was quite and not overly busy. We were greeted promptly with a smile. The service was impeccable - from the beginning until the end- now for the food. The lunch special was reasonable but the selection seemed limited. We ordered off the dinner menu and the prices were steep. So if you plan on taking clients and you're looking for a nice place for an average price, this is not the place. We ordered Steaks - and one person ordered Lamb - all entrĂ©es were presented and cooked to perfection. The taste was insane, not the best steak I've had (that goes to Capital Grill Dallas)- but it ranks in the top. The side dishes were great too- try the scallop potatoes - they were YUMO. I was told the lobster bisque was excellent too(it did look good)- lunch was so filling we passed on dessert, but the selection looked heavenly, the caramel cheesecake and pecan pie called my name, but I ignored the temptation... Very nice lunch, very good service, a little pricey for lunch, however it would be a great romantic dinner or a celebration of a life event, not an everyday eating establishment, unless of course someone else is paying for it 😊

Noisy and grossly overpriced

By Voyage10585 |

We found the food good, but very much overpriced. The place is noisy and the wait service is surly. It seems to be an in-place for those on expense accounts who are trying to impress, and who merely show their lack of sophistication by talking as loudly as possible. Never again.

Disappointing

By NMC_12 |

This is a sad review. I have typically enjoyed everything I have ever ordered at Lynn's but this was a sad way to say farewell to many years of living and dining in Houston. Crab cakes were delicious but the steak I ordered "medium" came our RARE & COLD inside. Our guest had to send his back several times to be cooked properly.

Excellent Food, Excellent Service

By Beth F |

We ate at Lynns while visiting my parents in Houston. It was not very crowded, as we went on a Monday or Tuesday night. The steaks were excellent, all of them perfectly cooked. Our waiter was very helpful and seemed to know exactly when it was ok for him to come to our table. My mom had been sick, so we ordered soup to go to bring home for her. They were very nice about this, and brought out a sealed container of hot soup and also some of their delicious bread for us to bring home to her. It is very pricey, but definitely worth it for a special occasion. YUM!

Great food

By Arlin01 |

i have been here a couple of times for client dinners and it has never disappointed. the wine selection is good and the food always tastes excellent. it is always a good place to take clients for steak.

Lynn's is so good

By Hani and Rob H |

We continue to come here. It is something that you have to look for but man is it worth is. People talk about Taste of Texas but this place is far more superior in taste and price. If you have some time try it. Old School and one I hope stays around along time.

Lunch with a group of friends

By Herbie1958-2017 |

This was a wonderful dining experience. The food was outstanding. Cooked to perfection. The service was terrific. There were five of us and we were able to talk with out any loud noises or music to drown out our conversations.

Simply not high end

By 72worldtraveller |

It is badly overpriced for the quality of the food and service. New York Strip tasted gamey, like a steak you should have grilled 3 days days ago. When I pay $50 for a steak I absolutely expect something better than what I can cook at home. Yet my homemade steak crushes his place. Our waitress also totally phoned it in. Was more interested in discussing her 12 year tenure and wine knowledge than asking how she could serve us. She didn't even bother to ask us how our steaks were. Sides were good but who cares. My colleague was also double billed.

Classy atmosphere- great food

By maggiet0813 |

We went 7 ladies to celebrate friendship and Christmas. The atmosphere is excellent. The food is excellent and our server was superb. It is a little bit on the pricey side but worth it. I had an Old Fashioned to start with. Then an 8 oz filet with loaded baked potato. Bread pudding (delish!) and coffee. Gratuity was included. My total bill was $108. There is free parking.

A little disappointing this time

By TAMAN1951 |

Gumbo was excellent as usual-some of the best in Houston. Crab cakes were nice as well. My steak was perfect but the other two were not prepared properly. Wife ordered medium and center was red and cold. My guest had to return undercooked steak three times. Asparagus was perfect but other sides were mediocre. Maybe it was because it was late but at this price point I would expect superior product regardless of the time.

It's been a year and way to long

By MikeStefHalJoJ |

A party of 6 for a birthday celebration. As always, exceptional service and food. Particularly enjoy the policy of no "turning of tables". We will absolutely go back and hopefully not wait a year. I hesitate to mention this place for I fear everyone will try to go!!

Ambient is good but steak is ok

By Hoang H |

I tried their HRW items that include the scallop, New York steak, and banana foster cake. The scallop was great except it seems smaller than what I have envision. New York steak was overcooked. I ordered medium. Ut it appeared like medium well, but the flavor was sufficient and the salt is not too overwhelming. It does taste a bit dry and less flavor than many other steaks I have tried. The cake was quite sweet and banana flavor are present. But the proportion of whipped cream filling to cake is 1:1, so it seems like the layer is half cake half cream. Overall, it was nice ambient environment. We were lucky to have a room for our party. The staff service was great. I would give them 5 star.

walking back in time...and loving it

By Damian C |

Don't judge a place by the outside. When you enter this office building/strip mall you are a bit concerned, but this is Texas. It was like a time machine. Have not had a waiter bring out a plate with the cuts of steak on it to show me in years. The wine collection is formidable. Went with baked oysters, which were creamy and clean, and a nice ribeye. The steak was perfect. Service was great....even saw the big wine room after my meal. A pleasant surprise!

Great filet medallions at lunch

By Peter F |

I don't normally eat steak at lunch but lynns offered a couple of perfectly sized filet medallions on their express lunch menu. With a quiet table it was an ideal location for a business lunch meeting. Salad, sides and dessert were all good too and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend it if you are in Energy Corridor.

Bad day for the chef

By AlLeGrand |

Weather was atrocious outside and maybe the chef was having a bad day but this was not the experience I was expecting. Admittedly, I was part of a group booking and had little influence over the choice of appetisers (goat's cheese then shrimp, boring) but my main course medium filet mignon was running with blood and cold in the middle. My peppercorn sauce was so cold and congealed I sent it back to be reheated. It never came back. Shoddy cooking, disinterested service.

Really love this restaurant. Impeccable service and fantastic food. The ambiance is perfect for an intimate dining experience.

Dinner with Son & Daughter-in-law

By wernerjutta16 |

We had a very nice dinner Friday evening at Lynn’s. It had been 20+ years since my wife and I last dined there. Service was good, the food was good and the acoustics made it quiet enough that you could easily carry on a conversation (which is rare these days). We started with seafood gumbo (it was good, but not great). Two of us had the sea bass and two had filets. Mine was the “bone in” filet, which I had not heard of previously. The entrees were very good. For sides we had orders of mushrooms, asparagus, and grilled brussel sprouts. If I had it to do over I would order the sautĂ©ed Brussels (live and learn). All in all, it was a very nice evening at Lynn’s!

Amazing meal and service

By mrcaffeinejunkie |

Was there on 1/29 and dined in the wine room. Service was excellent. Starting with crabcakes topped with shrimp and a side of scallops. Surf and turf for dinner and dessert. Everything was excellent.

Great Food!

By Eric H |

This restaurant is in the oil corridor and is a favorite haunt for corporate expense account diners, such as myself. I have been here a few times with colleagues and the food is almost always spectacular. Occasionally you will get an appetizer or soup/salad that isn't stellar but that is rare and the main course is always impeccable. Just remember, the bill will be at least as big as the steak they serve $$$$$. The last time I went the bill was just under $200 for two people with no alcohol. Several of my co-workers have complained that they found the layout/ambience of the place a little off-putting.I will agree that the place is a bit small and the tables can seem to be a bit too close together. But, nothing that would stop me from coming back. If you can swing the $$$$$, a great dining experience

AVOID LYNN'S STEAKHOUSE

By Wilma P |

I didn't think it was possible to have a really BAD steak in Texas. Not only were the steaks bad (gristley and tough) but the service was equally as bad. We were a party of 2, hoping for a nice quiet romantic dinner. The waitor was not just unfriendly, but rude. When asked about the wine list - he acted very put upon and talked to us like we were a couple of hicks who had never dined out in a "nice" resturant. Houston is full of great places to have a steak - AVOID LYNN'S STEAKHOUSE.

EXCELLENT QUIET RESTAURANT--easy to get to.

By Judy Boyce |

This was one of our most enjoyable family celebrations. We had two birthday people and they were each recognized with a plate that said Happy Birthday (with each name) and a cupcake with a lighted candle in it. I will certainly go back, especially during Houston Restaurant Weeks. The menu was loved by everyone--choices were excellent. In fact, the HRW menu was a big reason I chose Lynn's Steakhouse. This restaurant is AMAZINGLY QUIET!!! I hate to take a group out to a noisy restaurant. We want to visit with each other and many restaurants have such loud music that it's hard to converse. Lynn's Steakhouse had a very subtle music background and we could hear each other even across the table. I wish I could give 10 stars just for this reason alone. In accordance with the current COVID rules, waiters and manager were wearing masks and gloves. The manager greeted us at the door, knew who we were from the reservation information (group of 6) and had our round table set up for us. We felt very welcomed.

Tired and dated steakhouse

By Steve L |

We went with a large group recently, and had the wine room out back. Anyone who has been knows that the location is odd, being attached to the front of an office building - to get to the wine room, you actually walk through the dining room and walk through the atrium lobby of the building. The room itself is nice - hundreds, if not thousands, of wine bottles line the walls. We were served nice wine and hors d'oeuvres while we gathered, and there was a full bar as well. Once we sat down, we ordered from a fixed menu for the occasion. Apparently the tomato basil soup was good, but my Caesar salad had limp lettuce - it had been sitting too long. The filet I ordered was cooked correctly, and had acceptable, but not exciting, taste. However, the plating of the food was severely lacking, with an ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes and an ice cream scoop of creamed spinach, with some yellow cheese melted on the top. All a little lost on a white plate. The sides were very disappointing. Had a creme brulee for dessert, and it was a little cool, but that is probably due to the size of the room. I asked for coffee with dessert, but was served decaf by mistake. To the servers credit, he realized it and replaced it without my asking. Walking through the restaurant dining room while coming and going, the theme is dark wood. It was in fashion once many years ago, but it's been too long since the decor was updated. Likewise, the hexagonal, taupe sink in the restroom screamed 1980s. I first ate at this restaurant more than 25 years ago, and I'm fairly certain it has not been redecorated since then. I don't think the menu has been updated since then, except maybe the price. A restaurant needs to stay relevant - even if you're trying to entice the same clients over and over, they're getting older and dying off, and a restaurant needs to stay relevant to stay in business. The food was adequate, but it should have been excellent. If this restaurant is going to stay in business, it's time to do some updating of the menu and decor.
