Sunday lunch

By andytice |

If you plan on lunch advise you call ahead. Showed up at 1130 and not open. Waited 10 mins and still no one. Called later that night and was told they were open. Told him he was getting bad info if he heard that from staff.

Delicious

Wonderful staff and even better food! Definitely will be back. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Great selection too.

Upscale Sushi

By TTFN-ATL |

MF Sushi has an interesting and wide variety of unique sushi that you don't find at average sushi restaurants. For example, the jellyfish salad was a unique and tasty dish that you don't often find on local menus. The portions are average, but not what you would expect considering the price. Good choice for a special occasion, but definitely expensive.

Still Needs Improvement

By Jeff S |

I sometimes question why we keep returning to restaurants. Is it the food…the service...the panache? Or just a relentless desire to prove they can do better. MF Sushi is one of those restaurants that you know can do better, yet they cannot seem to get out of their own way in one or aspects of each visit. The latest two issues were the host(ess) and the size of the nigiri. On the last visit we were punished with the rear room and they told us we needed to request the sushi bar room when we reserve. This time I did, not only specifying the room, but also stating I did NOT want the back room. When we arrived, they immediately took us to the rear room, while the front room had only one table occupied. We politely asked to be seated in the room we requested. The server this time was top notch. She knew the menu, was polite, the food arrived as expected and she was pleasant throughout. The food was very good, but the size of the nigiri was minuscule, borderline embarrassing. The scant amount of wasabi confirmed the chef was punishing us for something. Was this the result of our desire to eat in the room as requested? Do not know. While the food was excellent, the overall experience is making it difficult to return.

Fresh / Delicious / Chic

Creative and amazing sushi dishes. Must have broiled scallops! Unagi sashimi-best I had in a long time. Rice around rolls was perfect-warm, not gooey/sticky or overwhelming. Wait staff are sharply dressed. Decor is cool/trendy. Interesting cocktails and loved the table setting - earthy.

Disappointing Service; Good Quality Food

By MarkButt |

I enjoyed an evening out with friends on Friday night. We were immediately seated and there was not wait, though we did make a reservation in advance which I suggest for busier evenings. The quality of the food was very good, I thought the fish was fresh and the rolls were innovative. There are some areas that I would suggest which are mainly related to the service. The waitress was a little pushy and trying to move us to more expensive items on the menu and made three (!) mistakes once the orders arrived. And, once we finished our meal and paid up, more incorrect orders arrived, which were sent back. I think there are better sushi choices around Atlanta and nearby (Miso Izakaya being one). I would not return.

Top-notch sushi in ATL!

Visiting from the UK to see family in Atlanta, we descended on MF Sushi on Christmas Eve. We’re a choosy group but weren’t disappointed with our choices. A fab range of dishes all prepared with fresh, top quality ingredients. Even though it was Christmas Eve the staff were warm and attentive. Will visit again when next over.

Something is wrong here

I have been a fan of MF Sushi since they had a location on Ponce. I have dined at the Inman Location many times. In the last couple of weeks I've dined there twice. Both times service was terrible. First, I find it odd that the owner sits on his computer in the bar area. This is a first class restaurant, the owner should not be on his computer in the bar area. I complained tonight about my service to him, he listened, talked to his staff, but never came to the table again to check to see if everything was ok. We walked out, walked by him and he didn't even ask if everything was ok. The restaurant was not that busy. It appears to be understaffed For what they charge for their sushi, they need more staff. I'm a fan of the quality of the sushi, I'm not a fan of the quality of the service. My bill tonight was $275 for 3 people, service was super slow, the owner didn't care, they don't pay for your parking, I'm not a fan. I won't be back.

The best sushi you'll ever eat... but you gotta pay!

By Kevin G |

In a perfect world all sushi would be at this level. Fresh. Delicious. Beautifully presented. Unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world so sushi at this level is rare, certainly in Atlanta. Which is why I'd recommend any lover of Japanese food in the area who has a few extra bucks to spend to hit MF Sushi. My wife and I were celebrating so we decided to go out for a fancy dinner and we absolutely loved everything we tasted at MF sushi. I don't normally go for the grilled foods at a Japanese restaurant but we went for the grilled sea bass and I'm so glad we did. It's possibly the most delicious fish I've ever had. The sushi was all amazing, of course, and we gobbled up several pieces of nigiri as well as an eel roll. The cocktails were also on point, I tried a couple different options from their specialty list and was not disappointed. My wife and I share the belief that this place is the perfect spot to try something new (type of fish, type of dish, etc.) because if you don't like it here, then you won't like it anywhere, and this is why we ordered the dessert even though we're not normally into mochi. Surprise, surprise: we loved this green tea mochi ice cream. The only downside is that you have to pay for this kind of quality. The first time I ever came here I got some serious sticker shock when they handed me the bill, but if you know what you're getting into then that's not a factor. Dinner and drinks for two will probably cost around $250 but it'll be so worth it.

Good, Not Great

Last night we went to MF Sushi in Inman Park and was rather disappointed. First off, we had an 8:00 pm reservation and waited about 40 minutes for our table, and all because our two-top was part of a table hosting a 6-person party. They were apologetic but we got nothing to acknowledge our wait. Once seated, we understood why we (and others, by the way) had to wait so long for their tables. Service is very erratic and chaotic. Our servicer was nice enough but a couple of times we had to ask where our food was. Our appetizers didn't come out at the same time which was awkward. I ordered a salad and my spouse ordered the baked scallops. They couldn't hold a salad until the scallops were ready (which took forever, by the way). Then came the entrees. My spouse ordered one roll and I ordered two rolls and an order of eel nigiri. His roll came out with my first roll and then he had to sit there while I eat the rest of my meal, which came out in two more waves. And again, I had to ask where my Lobster Tempura roll was. The dinner could have been staged better to avoid one person sitting there while the other is eating. In fairness, they seemed to be geared towards people sharing items as each time the server wanted to put a dish in the middle of the table. Dinner for two took probably 15-20 minutes longer than it should have. So you marry a smallish restaurant with slow, erratic service (and where people are generally sharing food and ordering accordingly) and of course you're going to wind up waiting forever for a table even with a reservation. There are better choices for sushi in Atlanta, Tomo to name one. I wouldn't rush back to MF Sushi.

Nice sushi, lovely presentation

By SophieOakes |

This is the MF Bar in Alpharetta, at Avalon. The restaurant and the table setting are lovely. Ate lunch there. The full menu is available at lunch plus some "no substitution" lunch specials, including what I had - ok miso soup, very nice ginger salad, then a cucumber roll, spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll. The rolls were good. Not exceptional, but I would be happy to eat them again. The lunch special was $18.75. Glasses of wine were high - I don't think I saw any under $12. If I go back, I will try something different that may showcase more finesse in the product.

Amazing Sushi!

MF is still the undisputed champion of sushi in ATL! It’s way better quality than the see and be seen Buckhead places. The quality of the sushi here is unmatched in ATL. If you haven’t been, then go soon!

Best Sushi in ATL

The absolute best food and ambiance to enjoy each bite.every Sushi on the menu is amazing because it is so fresh and well made. The service is over the top. The atmosphere is peaceful.

Great Food, But . . .

By Cissy W |

Loved our dinner tonight at MF Sushi! It's always expensive but worth it! Service was good - really enjoyed our dinner! But . . . The women's bathroom was downright dirty. Ring in the toilet, thick dust on the tall glass vase on the floor, dust covered the vase on the counter, . . . It can't have been cleaned in a month or more. You can't help but wonder if the Manager isn't holding anyone accountable to keep the bathroom clean - what does the kitchen look like?

Excellent Sushi and Service

By Richard R |

Highly recommended. This restaurant offers sushi at a completely different level. It is a bit more expensive but well worth it. Great service as well.

Most amazing sushi & sashimi meal that I have had, ever!

By Jody A |

Wow! the most amazing sushi & sashimi dinner I have ever had. My wife and I live in the area, me having been recently assigned to an Atlanta project from afar, and we needed a break from preparing our own meals. I wanted Japanese and decided to do some online research. What started out as, "is there any place decent" evolved into, "looks like there's a somewhat decent place we can walk to", so we did and with only basic expectations. We sat down and ordered the higher priced of the two Omakase dinners and the first course came, Miso soup. The server mentioned that the seaweed was from Okinawa, and that caught my ear (you mean you actually KNOW where the seaweed came from????). It was fine although Miso soup is hard to make an impression with. Next course was thinly sliced yellowtail, with a paper thin slice of Sriracha pepper on each piece; I thought, oh (expletive) fusion Japanese, which I detest. The peppers were so very thin that you only received a balanced hint of heat, similar in proportion to a spurt of high quality Wasabi. Hmmm, very good so far, my mind and palate were open, what’s next? Fortunately, we were then assaulted with a six or seven course barrage of the most delightful kind (we didn't count as we were mesmerized and after all there also was this full bottle of dai Gingo to deal with). Everything went far above and beyond my expectations of great sushi & sashimi dining. The price was certainly up there however quality, variety and presentation of each dish was superb; better than any experience I've had to-date. I worked for a Japanese firm for 15 years, having dozens of trips to Japan, most every one with expense-be-damned client dinners. I’ve had absolutely wonderful meals on both sides of the ocean, yet MF Sushi set a new standard for excellence that will be very tough to top. My only complaint was that the wait staff, their service, while pleasant, was merely good, as was their knowledge of what they were serving. It was NOT up to the standard of the meal, nor those preparing it and whoever is responsible for their training needs to probably go back to washing dishes (methinks they came from the dish pit as it was hard to comprehend a server trying to take a plate from a Sushi Master Chef before he was done performing his magic; his eyes and quick shake of his head spoke volumes). To sum up, if you want large slabs of conventional fish on rice or plate then do not come here. However, if you love a large variety of very fresh and exquisite fish prepared with great care & subtlety by true artisans, then treat yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

Delicious sushi

By Nmchinadoll M |

Beautiful decor and pretty loud on a Friday night. We had the O-toro (fatty tuna with truffle soy) and it was exceptional. Also the flounder negiri was delicious. The lobster and cucumber and the shrimp tempura roll we good. The sea bass was so buttery and delicious. We will be back! I suggest ordering everything at once as it takes a while if you don't. Service was ok.

Excellent Sushi

By soitgoes14 |

We popped in for a quick dinner Saturday. We were able to get one of the last seats at the bar. I ordered the O-toro Sashimi and Yellowtail Sashimi dishes while my fiancé ordered a roll. We both left happy with our food. Service was good and the place was decorated very nicely. I’d like to go back another time and really try more of the menu, but based on this quick visit I’m excited to do so.

Very Disappointing Service

By JCA612 |

My wife and another couple just visited MF Sushi this past Friday night. We had reservations for 8pm. From there things went down hill. Upscale hotels and restaurants aren't free of issues but it's how they handle themselves when an issue arises that really sets them apart. We were not seated until 8:45. Offering us a complimentary drink or something while waiting would have been nice. If that was the only issue, wouldn't have been that big of a deal. We ended up each ordering the tasting menu which was pretty pricey but we were looking for a great dining experience and thought it would be fun. About an hour went by before we received any food and when something did finally show up it was seaweed salad and edamame which we didn't order but I think they knew the ship was sinking at this point. We politely let them know we thought there should be some consideration for all this which they said they understood but that turned out just to mean we didn't have to pay for the seaweed salad and edamame we didn't order. Well over an hour before any sushi showed up. First few rounds of appetizers were heavy on the truffle oil and caviar as toppings, not sure why that was such an emphasis. Unnecessary ingredients to make it seem more decadent I guess. After that I'm pretty sure there were some nice pieces but the dinner was pretty ruined at that point. That was a lot of money spent for some of the worst service I've experienced. For upscale sushi, there are other options in this town where I've never had that kind of experience.

Special night with Family

By Jack Aubrey |

We chose MF Sushi for a special family celebration between Christmas and New Years. We were not disappointed as the food and service were impeccable. The prices are well acknowledged but we found the value proposition balanced with the sushi carrying the day. The highlight was the special Nigiri list with the fatty tuna and beef standing out. Our waiter was courteous, resourceful and present at all the right times. We look forward to our next special occasion at this lovely spot.

Great sushi

I am a big fan of mf sushi. This is the same restaurant that used to be on ponce. I went last night and I was not disappointed. Great food and great service. I also really like the new location. I strongly recommend.

Love the Sushi, but Service is now Completely Unacceptable

By Jeff S |

The food and freshness of the sushi is phenomenal. I think the smaller plates are very expensive and small in size, but I still really enjoy them. The avocado balls are now smaller and I think they now only serve 2 per order, where I remember that three used to. I would still like some better choices on Maki, the combinations are good but would like less spicy tuna/salmon as their central focus. Unfortunately the service has deteriorated over the last 5-6 months. They immediately push the Omakase and unless you put your foot down they are relentless. Last month they kept telling us our table would be ready in 5 minutes, yet it was almost 45. Last night they told us we had to "specifically ask for a table in the sushi bar" part of the restaurant. The tipping point was last night when our server was very nice but neglected to place half the order. Several of our sushi plates were delivered, but not all of them were. When we were finished with half the order, he asked if we wanted more. We told him we had not received what we ordered. Quickly one came, but the other never arrived. As we waited he approached again and asked if we wanted more. We finally told him to cancel the rest of the order and bring the bill. As much as I like the food, unless the service returns to acceptable it will be hard to keep in the rotation.

Omakase for 8!

By f s |

The omakase was a tremendous experience. Went with a group of 8. The timing of servings were great as was the variety of items. Service was sharp and on point. The bar does seem a bit small to have a drink while you wait. Not my favorite in Atlanta, but and excellent option and worthy of your visit.

Decent sushi that's a little pricey

By Anna P |

We came here recently in a very large party (10 people) for dinner. First of all, this place is hard to find! It is part of a larger complex of shops and restaurants that all share the same address, but it is set back off the street in a corner. We came here in an Uber, but there is a parking garage available. Once you park, keep walking--you'll eventually get here! The food was good but similar to most other sushi restaurants. I did not feel that the flavors or preparation were particularly special. For this reason, the prices seemed disproportionately high. Our poor server was attentive and helpful but there were too many people in our large party for things to be perfect--there were a few ordering snafus which were understandable in the context of our large table of people, and for which he apologized graciously. The ambiance and decor are trendy and sexy, but it is quite loud due to music and diners' conversation. This is a good restaurant to go to if you are craving sushi and are in the area, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to eat here.

Truly one of the best

By Honest Review |

As a frequent traveller to Japan, I love traditional Japanese cuisine....MF Sushi has incredibly fresh and high quality sushi....OToro, Ankimo, wags beef on a hot stone....Tough to choose between MF and Tomorrow but for true sushi....I think I would give the nod to MF....Ra Sushi is a joke compared to MF....Just let the chef choose for you...You will not be disappointed!

Very good sushi in trendy spot, but you are going to pay for it

By Razzmatazz |

First of all: if you do not know the area, you may take some time to find the place, as it's tucked away off N Highland Ave NE in a apartment complex / restaurant / bar court. Decor and ambiance is modern and trendy, groovy music, and the young and beautiful abound. Menu is expansive and has some interesting items that you may not find in other sushi restaurants. Food is very good, but as reviewers mentioned the portions are small - you'll probably get half of what you get for the same price elsewhere. Why it may be justified by the superior quality, it borders on the ridiculous. Service is atrocious -- food came out at all sorts of different times and on numerous occasions waiters either ignored us or where no-where to be found.

Awesome place

Went as a meet and greet with new management. Only a few of the people had expirenced sushi served this way before. The staff made all feel more than welcome and explained the dishes well. We had just about a little of everthing and it was awesome.

Awesome Everytime..

There are a lot of choices for Sushi in Atlanta. I have tried many but keep coming back to MF. Their food is unique in taste. The staff is top notch and the atmosphere is very inviting. Love it..

Disappointed

By elizabethhR8623LN |

My husband and I made a Saturday night reservation for MF Sushi to celebrate Valentine's day. He loves sushi, and we've loved Umi, Tomo, and Sushi Hayakawa, so wanted to try MF to see how it compared. I made a reservation for omakase, and noted the same in my Opentable reservation. The kind gentleman on the phone (when I called to confirm omakase) said omakase wouldn't be a problem for that date/time, and that he'd seat us in front of the head chef at the sushi bar. We arrived, and sadly, from the get-go, we experienced a less than 5 star experience. We were seated at the far end of the sushi bar against a wall, and were told omakase wasn't an option that night, which we'd been looking forward to all week. They thought a popular gin wasn't available, but luckily they found some. Now for the positives. We ended up eating $150 worth of sushi, and it was pretty solid. Our server, Marjorie, was also top-notch- she provided excellent service. Overall, it was very good, but a clear step below Umi, Tomo, and other high-end sushi restaurants in Atlanta (in terms of service, experience, food, atmosphere, everything). Would've been nice to get an email or call letting me know omakase wasn't possible, and would've curbed a lot of our disappointment. Nutshell, we probably would've enjoyed it more if we hadn't eaten at other great sushi restaurants in Atlanta. Without that point of comparison, though, you'll likely enjoy your meal.

Excellent sushi in beautiful setting

By Robert K |

My wife and I enjoyed lunch here recently. Space is gorgeous. Sushi very good. There are lunch "specials" with some "chef choice" options. The dinner menu is quite extensive, and I believe that items on the dinner menu are available at lunch.

Very good Sushi

By Juan Marco G |

If you are looking for a good Sushi, you should visit this place. Must of the time the owner is there. The have very good nigiri's and rolls. The only thing they didn't have was the bottle of sake that we wanted.

Wow

By johntphipps |

Awesome sushi. I'm not from Atlanta. Does everyone eat like this here? Everything was fresh and fantastic. Very busy with a vibrant feel. Very friendly, very quick to put food in front of us. Lots of sushi I had never heard of before.

We absolutely love the service and food but ....

By Sararossi |

We absolutely love the service , the food and the drinks but they could sure upgrade the covers of their menus ! They are super filthy and it’s a complete mis match with the rest of the atmosphere and the food . Unfortunately it’s also one of the first things the guest sees :(

Best sushi ever!

By Lisa H |

Delicious and fresh sushi, truly the best I have ever eaten. A little expensive but so worth it. Great attention to detail. Good atmosphere

Trust me and do the omakaze here!

By smjkxsnoopy |

Great sushi for the money! The otoro special at only $17 is a steal at its price. A lot of places charge more than that and this special comes with caviar and truffle soy. I recommend doing omakaze because you will get everything thats from Japan and all their signature nigiris and sashimis! A lot of food too!

Wow

By David H |

First time visit and the food was fantastic. Beautifully prepared, fresh sushi. Inventive dishes and presentation that rival the best sushi restaurants. Service was friendly as quick too. I can't wait to go back.

Amazing sushi in Atlanta

By travelingDuo02 |

Everything was awesome! Food, service, drinks, no complaints. We tried literally everything, and plates of food kept coming at us, apps, sushi, rolls, it was amazing. HIGHLY recommend, you will not be disappointed.

Great taste, terrible portions

By Rambler17 |

I ate here many years ago before they moved to the current location and absolutely loved it. I was very excited about this meal and they definitely delivered on the taste. The issues were two fold, first we ask for a chefs choice of appetizers expecting a single presentation, and before we realized it had about 5 different appetizers which were all very expensive. I could have dealt with this, but the portions were extremely small . I eat a lot of Sushi/sashimi and these portions are the smallest I have ever been served and the most expensive. I can handle spending $125-$200 per person, but should not leave hungry and have to eat again later. So maybe you have enough first timers to operate this way, but not my style. Great taste, just double your portion sizes.
