Noisy; Good Vibes

By Rumples |

We found this casual eatery, which adjoins Phoenicia Specialty Foods in Downtown Houston, to be a good place for a basic, light dinner. Mkt Bar features comfort and classic dishes, including tacos, salads, mac and cheese, pizza and the list goes on. Vegan options are available. Its big room handles groups of all sizes with booths, bar seating and standard, high and long tables. Live music bounced off the walls when we entered around 8:30 p.m. on a Thursday. The place was about half full with some customers nursing beers, wine or wine cocktails (no liquor license) and engaged in animated conversations. We seated ourselves, received a menu immediately and ordered quickly. I opted for the Mkt salad, which had romaine, cucumber, mint, feta, toasted pistachios and toasted pitas. I considered this to be a tasty combination. My husband chose chili and requested no cheese. That left ground chuck steak, onions, roasted peppers, fava beans, chick peas, red radish, garlic, lemon zest, olive oil and scallions. These ingredients really worked well together to provide an excellent chili. Staff here proved to be prompt, quite friendly, attentive and customer-focused with an emphasis on casual. Mkt Bar is definitely not a place to come for fine dining. But it is perfectly located for those attending events at nearby Discovery Green, George R. Brown Convention Center and Minute Maid Park. It came highly recommended by staff at our hotel, about a 1-minute walk away.

It Was OK

It is OK if you drink just beer or wine. No Liquor. They have name alcohol drinks but they make them with juices.

It's a very cool and hip place. Excellent service and great music. Don't miss out the Steak Tuesdays!

Good place to take time out

After riding the hop-on hop-off bus tour we looked for somewhere for a bite to eat and a drink and found MKT Bar. The service and food was good and we enjoyed visiting Phoenicia Specialty Foods next door.

Don't miss Tuesday Steak Night

By DesertRoses2015 |

A friend and i had an early dinner here on a Tuesday evening, which is "steak night." We both had the ribeye, which was very flavorful and an excellent value. We followed that with a small dip of gelatto. the atmosphere was friendly. There was live music for much of the time, but it was pleasant and not intrusive. The menu is not predominantly Mediterranean, although many items have a Mediterranean inflection.

Slow service, OK food

By memtxrn |

We went last night before a concert for our second time. Both times the is OK. The cheese platter is probably the best thing on the menu. Service was terrible though. We waited 30 mins for our drinks, that came out with our appetizers. I ordered a burger, it was overdone and nothing special. My husband ordered the steak, which was actually very good! The rest of our party had the pizza and queso. They were satisfied with their choices. Not sure if we Will return. Maybe just for wine and cheese.

Busy and noisy but good

By engped |

Place is very busy and loud during happy hour. Had a nice steak and a glass of wine. Service was only average but it is worth the visit.

Not for me

By Runnin26 |

I was staying at the Hilton Americas so I walked to the market. I'm a simple person and this place is very exotic. I had no clue what half the stuff was they offered. I guess for the sophisticated crowd, it's great.

Thursday is Steak Night

By JudithAnonymous |

Great deal on steak dinner for $12.99. Good beef, salad and choice of potato. Get there early to beat the crowd.

Best Chicken and Waffles!

By Becky C |

My friends and I went to Phoenicia Market Bar for brunch and it was the best! We had the egg scramble', chicken and waffles, queso and mimosas! It was all fabulous...no leftovers! The atmosphere was fun and the band was excellent! I highly recommend this place...I will be back!

Great place, great beers

By Andrew2e |

I was walking around for the first time and I stop here for a beer. The bartender was really polite and friendly. I accidentally spoil my beer and they gave me another one for free. That’s really nice on their part. The beer was local and was really good. If you want to stop by for a refreshment, you’ll like this place.

Excellent food and atmosphere

By trent912 |

I was in Houston this past weekend for the Final Four, and my brother, dad, and I ate at MKT twice in the 4 nights we were there. We had it the first night, and we ordered 2 different sliders and the fish and chips. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The atmosphere was really neat, and we had a great time. There is a small grocery connected to the MKT Bar, and we bought things for the weekend while we were there as well. We came back on our second to last night and ordered pizza and beer. Everything was great, once again. The atmosphere was a lot of fun, and the food was excellent. I would absolutely recommend MKT to anyone going to Houston.

Gelato and Good Food

By CHRISTINA R |

Ate at this bar twice during my eight day business trip in Houston. It's in close proximity/walking distance from downtown hotels. The food is fresh and good!! The second trip I came back just for the Gelato. The staff was friendly and dealt with any special requests we had without issue. The salmon and salad was my favorite dish YUM 👅

Eclectic Good Vibes

By OregonFan36 |

Easy walking distance from my conference hotel. Open seating, just help yourself. I ordered the seven cheese mac and cheese and a side house salad. The mac and cheese was extremely flavorful. Slightly spicy, all seven cheeses played well together. Mediterranean-influenced side salad was a cool and fresh complement to the hot, rich pasta.

Awesome for Birthday Party!!!

By Laura K |

This place is awesome! Came for my birthday party on Saturday night, they have $5 drink specials and a super fun DJ, DJ Tempty, who spins vinyl 60s and 70s funk....love DJ Tempty!!! Called ahead and they reserved us the 3 big long tables closest to the DJ. We didn't have to pay to reserve them and were on separate checks, which made it super easy for me!! I had a great night and my guests seemed to really enjoy it too. Several commented that I picked a great place and it was classy and nice. Also - they have a parking garage behind the building, so even though it's downtown nobody has to hunt for parking!! The waitress was also really nice and did a great job! Overall awesome night!!

Great vibe

By pmcgrathnd |

Attached to the Phoenicia market this bar has a lively and hip scene in downtown Houston. The service was great. The food has a bit of a Moroccan spin. The chili was excellent and had lots of chickpeas. Great selection of wines and beers. Best part was the music a DJ was spinning on vinyl.

We have different dishes that we pick up at the deli area. olives, salads and pizza. and enjoy it at the market bar.

By Joseph B |

friendly service, family atmosphere, no rush and plenty of seating space. You can also pick up your drinks at the market and enjoy it with your meal. they have imported beers and a great selection of soft drinks for all over the world

Try the daily specials

By JennyAGoGo |

Everything I've tried here has been fantastic, and at great prices. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu (the halibut in parchment is a favorite), but you really need to try the daily specials. They are always delicious and a real value. I don't usually go for specialty drinks, but these at MKT are different and delightful. I recommend the MKT Cosmo if you enjoy the floral sweetness of lavender, or the melon cooler if you are looking for something refreshing on a muggy Houston day. The Splish-Splash with it's somewhat pickle-y overtones is terrific with a burger.

Really cool atmosphere

By andr1971 |

I went there just to have a dessert after a busy day. Nice and relaxing atmosphere, good music, many lively patrons that warmed up the stay. Had a delicious apple Baklava and a glass of port wine. Recommended for a nice ending of the day. The place is not wide, but a group of four should not have problems.

Hidden gem downtown

By Mcklea |

I adore this place. My friends and I go for game night on Mondays, it's so much fun! They have great happy hour specials and love music most nights of the week. Parking is free and easy. Food is good, the wines are spectacular, tons of beer. It's pretty perfect.

Local favorite with a lot of choices

By l0tusbl0ss0m |

We go to Phoenicia at least 1-2x/month. We live locally and when we don't want to cook this is a good choice for a meal. They have a nice salad bar, soup choices, hot plates, hot sandwiches, pizza and great desserts! Adjacent to MKT Bar so you may have to jockey for a table during busy hours. Our last visit was interesting as the girl behind the steam table got both of our orders wrong consequently holding up the line.

Excellent

By Claudia H |

The shawarmas, pizza and desserts are delicious. Great place with a supermarket. The pita bread is really good. Excelente location if you are a tourist.

Fun, good Drinks and Beer

By usabras2010 |

The Market Bar is located on the Phoenicia Market, go for the fine groceries and relax at the Market Bar, great variety of drinks and beer, don't forget to check the live music schedule.

Great food, reasonable prices

By Jan H |

The Market Bar is a real find. It is located inside a grocery store and the food was truly amazing. Great craft beers on tap made the visit perfect. I don't review any more unless I can give at least 3 stars. This place earned all five.

Nice venue, good beer

By iadb |

We had dinner here and the chicken wings and halloumi heirloom tomato salad were very good. But the lambchops were very disappointing. The taste was good, but for 18$ we only got three very small chops. The rest of the plate was filled with polenta that tasted like nothing. We voiced our disappointment to the waitress and the manager came promptly to apologize, which we appreciated a lot. They were adjusting to a new menu, so not all perfect yet. The issue was solved very professionally, the chops were not on the check and we were offered another beer and dessert. Thanks MKT Bar!

Good place to eat.

By fkendell |

Ate ther twice once for breakfast and another time for ice cream. Had two kids and they were friendly and accomodanting. Good dinning experience.

Love this downtown market place!

By Padnurse |

Supermarket+! Many specialty grocery items and exotic kitchen gadgets! Also a little restaurant. Found this store by accident while staying at the Hilton downtown. Would love to take my time and browse around more!

Great Shopping and lunch

By JAfrica |

I love going to Phoenicia's for the past several years... Always have lunch as the shawarmas (wraps) are excellent. I always have the chicken shawarma.

Great Brunch

By Scott P |

We visited here for the first time. Walked by many times but never went in to eat. We went in before the World Series game and everything was great. The service was excellent, just enough attention but not too much. All the staff was great. The brunch was great. We had the chicken and waffles and a special dish with sweet cheese baked in a little pan. Both were outstanding in taste and were perfect size. I would highly recommend it for anyone.

Excellent Spot for Breakfast

By Tim J |

When I had first heard of Phoenicia I had assumed it was a full restaurant, but that is incorrect. It initially reminded me more of a Whole Foods or Market Basket in that you purchase food inside of the market and then eat it at a designated spot still within the building itself, but past the registers. Understanding that, the variety of foods available for purchase and condition of the prepared food is absolutely stunning. First passing through the registers you are greeted with salad bars, bakery goods, nuts, honey and large amounts of other goods designed to be taken with fast. The prepared food section past these on the left, and serves meats, cheese, quiche, omelets, pizza and most other foods you'd find at an eating hall. The taste though, is far beyond what I expected. Stuff full of fresh vegetables, herbs and chicken, the quiche was thick and delicious whereas most places fluff theirs with eggs and heavily bread to give the impression it's filling when it is not. My colleague purchased a chicken wrap with hummus whose pita bread was freshly made that morning and was incredible. No one had any complaints about the food, and the price was a great value. I fully intend on eating here again when I return to Houston.

Time Well Spent

By Hazel007_12 |

If you have all night to make something out of the night, go here. The food was a little above average. But the service was weird. The order was messed up, so I didn't get my food until everyone else ate. The atmosphere was lacking. A DJ with bad speakers who played Motown, sadly. It was like eating in your kitchen next to the fridge. It will make you late if you stop in before going somewhere else. It was recommended to me, but it didn't live up to the hype. The best food was an extra-large slice of cheesecake and a mountain of chocolate cake. This may have been an apology for the service.

Good food, good service, good drinks await you here

By DrSJ |

Having heard of Phoenicia on TripAdvisor, once I’d put my things in my hotel room, since it was close to 5 pm and I’d been traveling all day, on a Tuesday night I walked the two blocks to Phoenicia and found I was in time both for happy hour prices and for Steak Night – score! $14 for a complete steak dinner?? Price is irrelevant, though, if flavor isn’t there…but the steak was perfectly cooked (medium rare, as requested), so tender and flavorful with the green sauce atop for eating as desired with a bite of the steak. The fries – the House Za’Atar Fries – were also quite tasty. And if that side of potatoes isn’t enough, the steak is positioned atop the restaurant’s “Za’Atar Shoestring Fries – Za’atar dusted, hand-cut fries w/ lemon zest, spicy Moroccan ketchup & garlic sauce for dipping” – yay! Who doesn’t love shoestring fries? And the choice of sauces to dip both the fried potato choices into was perfect for continuing to vary each bite of potatoes. Good on their own, good with the ketchup, good with garlic sauce, good with ketchup and garlic sauce combined, the potatoes provide you with the complex carbs needed for enjoying the local beer. I decided to forego the happy hour prices to go for the 4 4-oz. sampler of local beers, a great way to see what to order the next time I was there. And I’d be remiss were I not to mention how personable the waitress was the entire time this solo diner was there—she was attentive, helpful, but not hovering. I liked learning from her that I should really check out the huge grocery store adjacent to the Market Bar, and there I found the dessert that I took back to my room that night. The restaurant section is open only for dinner, but I returned to that area for lunch with friends also attending the convention or to meet a local friend, enjoying the rustic seating area with a bar available for adult beverages and with take-out entrees or sandwiches and non-alcoholic drinks from the attached large grocery and specialty store. My local friend commended me on selecting Phoenicia Market Bar for our meeting place—I can see why it’s a choice spot for locals and visitors alike. It will be among my first stops again the next time I’m in Houston. Good food, good service, good drinks await you here, too – go!

Surprisingly Good

By Heartstotravel |

We were struggling to find a close spot to our hotel to eat dinner and google maps showed this place not too far away. It’s connected to some kind of grocery store and we thinking hmmmm. Walked down aisle way toward restaurant and took a peek at the menu. Got seated and waited on. Beer good , dinner good as well. I had a chicken breast sandwich with fingerling potatoes which were a great change from French fries. Check it out

Bummer Brunch

By Robin B |

Bummer brunch. We were looking for a place to take our grandson for breakfast. It’s become exceedingly rare for us to be able to eat out (talking literally once every 3 months, if that) and even more rare with our grandson in tow. So, I was looking for a special place to go. They snared me with their cute whimsical advertisement of bring your kids in their pajamas for free cereal and cartoons. So I looked at their menu which included chicken and waffles. Cool! Something my husband and I have never gotten to try. So, off we trotted to downtown for no other reason than to go to this restaurant. Happily paid for parking as this was going to be a special treat. Walked in and noticed that only a couple of televisions actually had the cartoons playing but no problem. We will just sit close to one. Sat down and realized there was no sound. Well, okay. He can watch it, at least. Really not the “cartoon” ambience as advertised but, oh well. Little boxes of cereal were sitting on a mantle and my grandson picked one out. Our waiter was kind and attentive. My grandson ordered a waffle off the kid’s menu to go with his free cereal and we ordered the chicken and waffle. Our food came out and our disappointment was palpable. The chicken itself was good but nothing exceptional, especially when there wasn’t anything else to help make it a delicious all-around meal. Portion size didn’t look like the thick, crispy chicken advertised but it was seasoned well and cooked just right. The waffle was the type that you make yourself with that ready-made easy mix at the free hotel breakfast bars. Didn’t even have the nice golden texture or waffle crunch like you get with good waffles. Texture was that of a soft pancake. We each got one large, lame waffle. My grandson took a bite of his and then asked, “Do I have to eat it? I don’t like it.” I, after taking a bite of mine, said, “Absolutely not.” Oh, I should point out that my grandson's waffle was scantily decorated with a spot of whipped cream and that there was a choice of fruit topping but he didn’t want it. So, I asked the waiter if I could have the fruit on the side. He said sure but it was only about two strawberry slices. I said forget it then. I got a slice of an orange on my plate that was so thin it wasn’t worth trying to remove it from the rind. At this point, I’m ready to cry. It’s dawning on me that I’ve completely wasted my rare eating out funds. To sum it up, I ate one (halved) chicken breast with nothing to go with it and my husband ate my waffle just so he didn’t feel like we were wasting too much. I told the manager how I felt and why I won’t be returning for another brunch. She was very nice and sympathetic but it was of no consolation that they were planning on improving the brunch menu in the future or that their dinner was much better. I mean, come on, I’m here right now. I’ll have to wait until the next time we can eat out to make a memorable dining experience. We lost out this time. Took my grandson back to his mother and, at least, they immediately went to IHOP and enjoyed themselves.

Very eclectic.Live music most nights. The food comes form the market attached to the venue. plenty of choices

Weekend menu

By kaufmansn |

We were at the convention center for an event, and heard about the Mkt Bar. Wandering around the Phoenicia was pretty interesting, but so was the Brunch menu for the Mkt Bar located inside the Phoenicia market. It was like a middle eastern take on Tex mex - and very good!! The queso and egg scramble were scrumptious, and the chili filling.

Yummy!

By HtxSooner |

Came there before an Astros game for brunch. The food and service were awesome! I highly recommend it!

Great foot, drink at a great price.

By Clinton C |

I ate here twice and enjoyed each meal. Fun venue that changes each night. I truly enjoyed my time there and the staff was very nice.

Cool spot within walking distance of convention center.

By Texasmuth |

Funky spot with good food and cold beverages. They had a DJ spinning tunes that made for a nice vibe. Friendly staff.

I LOVE Steak Night

By vmgreene1027 |

$12.99 for steak, salad and a side...the quality far exceeds the price and having the option 2 nights a week - Tuesday and Thursday means you can get a yummy meal and not break the bank more often. I also love the plantain chips, gelato and I can pick up few groceries at the market if needed too. Live entertainment, tv's to watch the game and an overall laid back atmosphere = one of my go to spots downtown. Not 5 stars cause I'm a bit of a foodie but overall VERY VERY good.

Super tasty eclectic food in a very cool place.

By rogerzd |

A really cool, very different place. Everyone sampled everyone else's dinner (3 of us) because they were each sooo very different. A lamb burger topped with an orange slice "wow", incredibly tasty grilled brussel sprouts, everything was somehow a little "different" and it was all GREAT! FYI - we went back another night for pizza and beer that was great also.

Fantastic meals but service was lacking.

By Rebecca H |

Went to the Phonetica Market NEW Years ave to get dinner but missed Its closeing time by an hour. So we decided to eat at Mkt. Initially the service is quick the water was friendly and helpful making dinner choices. It was $12.99 steak might (tue & thurs) so the three adults each ordered them. Well, medium well and medium all done right. Two kids split a $12 Fold over ( calzone). Meal was wonderful but when it came time to pay one adult who asked for her check (at the beginning of the meal) to be separate was not. No problem the waiter took the check back and took a very long time to return. When he did both checks we charged incorrectly not much but wrong. Took a long time for him to return again and we pointed out the error. Again along wait and we got up to go look for him as we were well past waiting. He returned and we paid again long wait for the change. Disappointed in the service as it was not very busy.

Great Food & Service

By Harvsman |

Came here the night of Thursday Oct 6, From memory I think I may have had the Moroccan slider and my friend had the Mac and Cheese, Service was good, Food was good and reasonably priced, if back in Houston would return :)

Great spot for dinner

By Zarnie M |

Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Good food and drink selection for everyone. Prices were reasonable and generous servings . Highly recommend for a casual meal and drinks . As an international traveller and experiencing some card issues the staff were really helpful and understanding and was able to pay with cash . Would be back next time I am in town.

Great bar, Thursday night steak night is awesome, good prices

By Luuk |

What do you want more? Good food, love music, great beer for a decent price. Service was perfect! Had the steak dinner and was really tasty. They have beer tasting plates with 4 different local beers. I really recommend this bar for dinner and drinks.

Wow what a great food store and a great place to eat!

By Jim G |

They have a good Saturday/Sunday brunch with live music. They have great chicken and waffles. Also a full bar with great drinks and desserts. We had the chocolate cake and was too much for the 3 of us. It is also a great place for authentic Mediterranean food.

Great vibe

By FLBuckeye93 |

This restaurant has a great vibe. We listened to a bras band while dining. They weren't too loud , and we were sitting near them. The portions and prices were reasonable. My husband had the halibut and said it was one of the best he's ever had. I had a salad and hummus. Both were fresh and delicious.

Great find downtown

By Larry K |

Hipp, trendy restaurant with comfortable bar....12 beers on tap, more in bottle/cans. Didn't have wine but selection looked good enough to please most. Music and community tables help complete the scene...food is outrageous.. Easy walking distance from convention center hotels...

Great Ambiance, Food & Location!

By QsbyTraveler |

Regularly visited every day during a conference with excellent food and service every time. Small intimate tables perfect for one. Food is correctly portioned, tasty and an excellent value. Yum!

Confusing layout but good value lunch

By slhokie |

This is unlike the one on Westheimer. The restaurant and food store are together with the bar off to one end. We found the Sharma area and had wraps. They were large and tasty. The decor is very simple with tables in a hallway between the store and the bar. The price was very reasonable.

Delightful Find

By Larry W |

This was a delightful find after a day of walking and time at the convention center. We went during happy hour and the beer was delicious, although limited in selection for happy hour. What was even better was the food. I had the best sirloin steak I've ever had. It came with a baked potato and onion rings. My s/o had macaroni and cheese which was very tasty.

A bit of a disappointment

By KatyTwinMom |

On a recent girls’ night in Houston, we chose MKT for our Sunday brunch. The decor is very hip and clean. At 10am the restaurant only had a few diners. But it was full of staff. Oddly, the staff always seemed to be standing around and not helping. We waited forever for someone to come to our table. Then a long time for someone to take our order. Every step along the way we were kinda looking around to see if someone could help us. Our waters were never refilled. We had to ask to order, as to get the bill. As for refills. This all being said, we weren’t in a hurry. But it was just strange how little we were helped. On top of that, the food wasn’t bad but nothing that we got was really good either. There are several great restaurants in the immediate area to hit before this restaurant.

Great brunch

By Nessa |

A few of us had brunch here this morning and it was amazing. The staff were fast and friendly, which I always appreciate. The menu is fun and eclectic without being intimidating. The drink selection is large and varied. I had the egg scramble with sausage. This is roasted potatoes, eggs, sausage and their house queso. The whole dish was great, but the queso is what made it special. You can also get the queso on its own as an appetizer. Others at the table got the ceviche and were extremely happy with their choice as well. And I can't neglect to mention they had a live band! The whole atmosphere was festive, and a really great way to start my day. I really loved this place and definitely suggest it to everyone.

Very disappointing last visit, completely opposite our previous experiences!

By Hifzi A |

We had been to Market Bar at least 5 times in the past. We always enjoyed our visits. The food was good quality and tasty, and the service was reasonable. However, the last visit was very disappointing. First of all, we realized that one of the best of items on the menu, Moroccan Sliders were not available anymore. Secondly, the service was very very slow. We had to ask three times what happened to our order. Our sliders arrived about 40 minutes late and they were over cooked to the point of being not edible. I hope this was only a one time mishap and the Phoenicia Market Bar will go back to the high quality we used to experience.

Great food, fast and eady

By Karen B |

If you are looking for great good at a very reasonable price, this is for you! I had the Tuesday steak special for $12.99 and I highly recommend it. Very generous portions! Try their homemade steak sauce!

Good quality food in a charming place

By R_Dubai |

Nice place to have a bite. Good beers and creative food in the menu using organic and locally source ingredients. A good option if you are near by, do not expect outstanding meal though, just honest and quality comfort food.

Loved this place

By P5911LXkathleens |

This was a great place to eat. We had Sunday brunch here. Our server, Ann, was excellent. She took time with us. Told us all about the menu. Recommended a couple of dishes and even told us about the weekday menu & what specials they had during the week. The food was great. I highly recommend the Chicken & Waffles and the Egg Scramble

Enjoyable Dinner

By CBonn57 |

Thursday was steak night at this quaint bar. Supper was good as was the beer. Service great. We went around 5 and plenty of seats . When we left about 7 , the place was rocking !!! Steak was okay for the price . Salad was tasty. Looked like live music was going to start but had to get up early for flight home so unfortunately we had to leave. I would recommend this bar .

Fun and good food

By K E |

All in all was a fun place to eat and hang out on a road trip. Signs said Wed is wine and vinyl night so certain bottles were 50% off but the vinyl do never materialized that was good bad. Food selections were great, try the pizza with apricot, Brie, etc or the meat/cheese platter. Dessert - apricot baklava with ice cream - wow! And good drinks all in our group enjoyed.

Very nice eclectic place

By LRgmami72 |

Very nice place. It was clean and had great vibes. It had a great and eclectic menu. Really enjoyed the salad. Also liked the appetizer (plantain chips).

Would absolutely eat here again!

By Amanda M |

My girlfriends and I enjoyed wine and several different appetizers along with live music on a recent Friday night. Our waiter was awesome and the meat and cheese tray was divine!

Excellent Eats

By all_travel_now |

If your Downtown an hungry, then the self server Market Bar, is a great place to eat. With lots of choice and fresh food you can get design yourself lunch. It get busy during the week at lunch time. There is also a bar to get a beer or two.

Disappointed Experience

By Reggiel54 |

Based on the ratings, I was expecting a better experience than what I had. We went for a late lunch. The greeter was nice and friendly but the service was subpar. Maybe our Server was having a bad day or something but he had zero personality, forgot the utensils and was slow to check on us with the place was not busy at all. To top it off, we ordered the Just Hummus for an appetizer; it arrived at the same time as the entree. It had no taste and was greasy. I tried the MKT Fish and Chips which had no taste as well. It looked great but that was it. The best part of the lunch was the fries and the margarita. Maybe the dinner experience would have been better but we marked this one off any future returns.

Almost

By Chad W |

I like a lot about this little place downtown. We went here for dinner and drinks before a concert at House of Blues. Food was good. Atmosphere good but there’s no liquor behind the bar. You shouldn’t offer mixed drinks when you don’t serve liquor. Not that big of a deal but it keeps this review from being 4 stars.

Lively and Fun Place to EAt

By Mo C |

Very busy. Food is fantastic. Atmosphere is great. Gets very busy before and after local events such as Rockets, Astros, Texans etc. Also has live music playing some nights - I love the jazz.

Great food.

By Joe P |

Love their Sharwarma's. I go to this downtown location when I venture in that area. I primarily go to the location on Westheimer where I have been going for several years. Really like there food and service is pleasant and fast. Highly recommend.

Good but not Great

By RogerP138 |

I had the pork belly pizza but it had very little pork. Quite tasty nevertheless. My wife had the burger, good homemade patty, interesting fries.

Great Ceviche

By Brad D |

Had Ceviche and a beer, really good fresh Ceviche with mandarine orange, wasn't sure about the orange but man that was really good. The herbed pita chips served with it were good too.

Excelente Mrt

Great Happy Hour!

By Ashley J |

Went here with my coworkers during a business trip. The happy hour menu is great, apps for $5 and lots of beer selection from $3/$4. After happy hour ended, ordered a few more drinks, prices were still very reasonable! Also ordered the sliders, decent appetizer. Great bar, lots of options. I would go again when visiting Houston.

Great food

By Hassan S |

Loved the food. It was delicious and in large quantity. Service was great. The place is fun and inspiring

Lamb and waffles is worth it!

By Dan G |

Awesome brunch! Got the braised lamb and black pepper waffles, they were fantastic!! Great service and a cool atmosphere. Highly recommend!

good value for money

By frenchinlondon |

Cool atmosphere, "industrial" design and some live music at times. The food is basic but well done. wine list is good. food and drinks are reasonably priced. So, that a good place to go when you are not looking for a fancy restaurant, but a good value for money decent meal.

Amazing brunch

By Dalton G |

My wife and I took my mother-in-law to Phoenicia Market Bar on Saturday for brunch. Our first time to Phoenicia and it did not disappoint. My MIL and I had the black pepper waffle with braised lamb and pecorino romano, while my wife had the waffle and fried chicken. My brother-in-law had the Ham Solo pizza. All were absolutely fantastic, a foodie's delight. The lamb was melt in your mouth and the spice maple syrup was a perfect fit. We're definitely going back!

Not a spot I would visit

The only draw back is that they do not serve spirits, they of carry wine and beer. They do have mixed wine drinks but that is all. The food was good, I had the lamb burger sliders, does not come with fries or sides so you have to asks for additional items. Have a friend who tried the sea bass and found that it was a great dish. Crowded, loud and not many places for a group of 4 . or 5 that can sit down... Why the low rating

Great food and amazing service

By Rachel T |

Great menu selection here but the meat and cheese platter was by far the best I have ever had. We sat at the bar and had some great banter with the bar staff, who were very attentive. Really nice vibe to this place, the live music was just a bonus.

Brunch

By Elisabeth B |

The service was fabulous I had the eggs and kielbasa The eggs were done to perfection Fresh and perfectly scramble. The kielbasa was good and just the right temperature The potatoes on the bottom were cold and had been cooked sometime ago. Disappointed in these. I would have given a 4 if the potatoes were warm and fresh. The mimosas were excellent

Funky, Fun and Flavorful.

By Craig P |

This restaurant, bar, nightspot is atached to a large gourmet supermarket in downtown. The owner is Lebanese and the flavors are a mix of middle eastern exotic and Southwest. I had the sea bass. It was prepared with capers and fresh tomatoes and I believe arrugula. Instead of polenta the waiter recommended fresh broiled yellow beets. Delicious dish. My wife had a half broiled chicken which was marvelously flavored with mesquite curry. Her side was finely chopped salad with some kind of seeds. They have plenty of craft beers and keep things interesting by serving drinks in goblets and Mason jars. The Virgin Mary was seasoned with just the right amount of horse radish and Tabasco. They know their flavors. The service was competent, helpful and friendly and the night we went there was a DJ playing motown Era 45s to keep the vibe fun. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is the lighting is a little to bright for dinner and the decor although pleasant with interesting art work throughout needs to be more defined. The prices are very reasonable. Our whole bill with the tip was less than $70. Downtown Houston is in the middle of another boom. This time there is a conscious effort to make the area more hip and accessible to the larger community. There is a fairly big homeless community and the dichotomy of The Four Seasons hotel and a Dollar store and pan handlers on almost the same block in downtown Houston is an interesting commentary. That said this restaurant is a great respite and worth checking out for lunch or dinner.

Great food and live music

By fawadali2017 |

Went here for a dinner with friends and had a great pizza, appetizers and enjoyed the live music playing here

Unique & Delicious

By Jana W |

Great atmosphere, fresh & different (try fish & chips...chickpea fries are yummy!) Service was excellent.

Horrible Service

By sfa1996 |

We came here before an Astros game. When we arrived there were not many tables occupied. The wait staff was not friendly nor welcoming. Appeared to be put out they were at work. Our table of 5 order variety of appetizers, draft beers and one wine spritzer. Our food came out really fast. Our drink service was slow, slow, slow, slow. And the kicker was they were busy. How hard is it for pour draft beers??? Absolutely the worst service I have had. I will not be returning.

Okay meal.

Had dinner here...the chilli dish was luke warm and the pizza although hot was a bit soggy. Service good.

Steak Night: Tue & Thurs!!!

By Ana M |

Always try to stop by on a Tuesday or Thursday for their delicious steak night! One of the best I've had in town. The bar shares a building with Phoenicia Specialty Foods, so I always stop by for dinner after I've picked up a couple of groceries. Great décor, and music. It's a great place to take a date! Check it out!

Amazing Jazz Brunch

By d024876 |

I've been here every time I've traveled to Houston - love this place, specifically for Sunday morning brunch with live Music. Food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. A jewel in Houston Downtown.

mkT bar

By Mister Palmer |

Nice place in Downtown to unwind and get a good meal after a long work week and meetings. We got ourselves a plate of the Italian meat and cheese. Everything was fresh and nicely plated. Very affordable pricing given downtown location and quantity of food. The house salad and homeade cheesecake were both very good as well, big Texas portions as expected. Pretty healthy menu but they also do have pizza and burgers if you are with kids or picky eaters. Will definitely be back

So many better choices in Houston

By St_Matty |

I heard about this bar, so I thought I'd give it a try. The food was nice, and beer selection was reasonable . Service was terrible. It felt like they were doing you a favor. The lady at the bar couldn't even serve a proper pint and everyone around me seemed to get served before me. So many better choices around. I will not be back.

Happy Hour

By Blmhouston |

A great bar to stop at after work and share a cocktail and conversation. They serve nice cocktails such as sangria and mojitos. They have a nice wine menu including wine flights. A wine flight is a three wine tasting option - equivalent to just over a full single serving. Their food menu is Mediterranean and wonderful. They also have a tasty gelato offering. Really good!

The Lack of Quality was Puzzling

By Emmie G |

I have eaten here many times. Specifically enjoy Steak Night on Tuesdays. Last night the entire experience was just a mess. My steak was grisly and chewy. So grisly I had to spit out three separate bites because I could not chew them. French fries were cold and greasy. Sometime bitter in the salad dressing that made the entire salad tasty bitter. It was just a mess. What happened?

Spectacular Find!

By KLM3008 |

A colleague and I were walking around following a day at a conference - we stumbled upon Phoenicia and once getting to the back saw Mkt Bar - we loved Phoenicia so figured we would give it a try. 1.) The atmosphere was great - fun, great energy, but not overwhelming 2.) The food and drink options were great, but tasted even better - fresh food prepared to highlight the ingredients, not overwhelm it 3.) We were there on a Wednesday and had no idea it was vinyl spin night until after we sat down, the guys started maybe 15 minutes after we got there - it was so fun! Houston got an A+ from us due to Mkt Bar - it made our short, work-based time in Houston the best!

Quirky bar restaurant

The Market bar is a good place to go for a beer and listen to some live music. We also ate there and found the food pretty good.

Great food and service

By Tina S |

Here for weekend brunch. Good food and service. Prices very reasonable. Servings good size (over-ordered as a result). Good venue for families.

Very Cool Atmosphere

By Melissa S |

We loved the atmosphere at this place. It's loud and busy but there was live music and people didn't seem to mind the noise. It wasn't a fast place to eat but didn't take a long time either. I'd say it was an average wait. We went for the steak dinner ($14.50). Salad, steak, onion strings, and twice baked potato. Everything was very tasty. The steak had a great flavor but was a bit tough. I ordered medium and it was more of med-well. Overall I'd go back again for sure. Waitstaff was extremely accommodating and friendly.

Best ever

By charley48 |

Oh, this was one of my favorite places to eat EVER. You can get all different sizes of the Mediterranean food market. Outrageous , fabulous foods to get. The others got "swarmas", pita wrapped , lamb ( you can have chicken it mart as well) with some delicious sauce. I has babagnoush, felafal, some red pepper/ garlic dish I was dying for.. Curry chicken ( would pass on that.. Was good, but not like the rest) all so tasty, fresh, and delightful.. You have a bar with sauces, and pita chips, and cut up pita pieces. Really, this was a really great tasting lunch. Bravo Oh, and then 10 kinds of baklava. Mercy

A Downtown Dream

By tazcaly |

This specialty market is located a few blocks from the convention center and major convention hotels. I didn't want to go to a fancy restaurant so I stopped here for take out to eat in my hotel room. Nicely priced pita wrap ($7) plus I picked up some sides and snacks. Also got juice and a roll for breakfast. All for less than a cup of coffee from room service.

Don’t forget to walk thru Phoenicia Mkt. nextdoor.

By l0tusbl0ss0m |

Enjoy steak nights here- it’s a good deal. Tue/Thur. for 14.50pp. Fills up fast due to happy hour. Leave room for dessert next door at Phoenicia Market bakery. So good!

Best Steak Night I’ve Had

By Phanie |

This steak night is not typical of Houston steak nights. It’s better. Steaks - So good; especially for the price. I’ve been here on multiple occasions with several people and everyone has only had good things to say about their steaks. Ambiance - All indoors. You don’t have to worry about heat or weather like other steak nights. The cut changes; Chef’s choice but all have been very good and cooked as ordered. Sides - All the steaks come with a salad. The only CON about the salad is that if you have any allergies; you cannot omit anything from the salad. If you’re allergy free; it’s a pretty good salad with cucumbers, olives, tomatoes and red onion with shredded cheese. Steak night is on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Fun Brunch before City Tour

By 262DianeV2014 |

We started with Bloody Marys and tried three brunch items to share: egg scramble with kielbasa, ceviche, and Haigs chili. Fun spot to try new dishes for a taste of Houston as we waited to take the 10:00 city tour.

Great night out!

By Cmp1978 |

We were there on board game night and $10 pizza night. Everything was reasonably priced, fresh and delicious!!

Visit Tuesday or Thursday

By Don H |

They have a great steak special on Tuesday and Thursday. Cant beat the price and the food was pretty good

A gem

By Andrew G |

I've had a number of great lunches there. Wouldn't suggest the sushi though. Just seemed frozen and not fresh like you want it. Pastries and everything else, on point.

Excellent On the Go Food

By Peter O |

Was down for Super Bowl and went to Phoenicia on Saturday night after checking into hotel. Tons of food, lots of variety. Service was a little slow, but friendly. Food was good. Location is ideal, right in the middle of the downtown hotels.

My favourite bar in Houston!

By Rodrigo Uribe Pacheco |

My colleagues and myself had a business gather up at this bar. We are still impressed with how comfortable we felt in MKT Bar! The start-ups had excellent presentation and even better taste (I recommend the charcuterie starter as well as the hummus)! They have a very well sort amount of crafted beers and cocktails, and they also have great live music!! The place on the outside might not get your attention, but once you are in, you won't want to leave. Next day I went back for lunch and realised they have its own "food market" next to the bar; very gourmet and quality products. Pretty cool, tasty and funky place!

“easy going” atmosphere

By Serge_De_Bock |

This one was ideally placed on our way from the parking to the Toyota Center to watch the Rockets vs. Spurs game… this is the ideal place for some food before a game… filling enough for such an event but no over the top quantity! There is an “easy going” atmosphere and amazingly while I was expecting fast food type of meal, it ended up being casual, simple but tasty dishes. There is a great variety of food and all of us could really enjoy our experience in the place. Nothing to highlight about the service, discrete and appropriate, not too noisy and familial atmosphere. I would not go there for a romantic or calm dinner nor for a gastronomic experience but on my way to a game, no doubt! I will find what I need to be fed for the evening and get better quality than a usual fast food restaurant. Under the above circumstances I do recommend :-).

Outstanding Brunch

By LamaFood |

We enjoyed a fantastic weekend brunch at MKT. We ordered four different brunch items and shared them family style - they were all fantastic. Special shout out to the egg sausage scramble. Highly recommend. Ps: make sure you visit the Phoenicia specialty food store next door !

Downtown Oasis

By LoLj |

I can really appreciate the thought that went into this curry veggie potpie - a little creativity goes a long way when avoiding meet. Beer and wine selection is always on point; and the local atmosphere is a treat for a traveling business dude. The guy behind the bar obviously takes his job seriously . . . . but not too seriously - and that's perfect.

Fun space!

By nread |

I loved this little hidden place, it had a great atmosphere and the wine was a good price! It's good for a relaxed drink with friends and has a variety of food 'bars'. It wasn't too busy when we went so we sat at the bar and the service was great. I would recommend this place for sure.

Decent bar attached to a convenience store/grocery market

By A K L |

We popped into the store looking for some bandaids. Three hours later, following several wines and beers, a pizza and salad and the beginning of a decent live band we decided to leave because they didn’t serve liquor unfortunately. Great service from Sidney. Pizza was amazing. Funniest moment was when some guy pushed his trolley down into the bar wondering which aisle he had come down then discreetly did a u-turn. Brilliant.

very friendly service and good bar food

By TWASS66 |

Typical bar food, nice selcetion of available drinks and all well prepared. nothing fancy but the right place for a happy hour after business. The service staff was really friendly and helpful.

Fantastic selection

By djafrica |

A great place to pick up a quick meal in Downtown Houston to take back to your hotel, or eat in the small bistro/bar type dining area. Hot and cold selections - sandwiches, hot roast beef and turkey dinners, pot pies, salads, the works. Great deli too.

Nice restaurant with live music.

By Heather S |

This place is attached to the Phonecian Specialty Food market. Came here after the Houston Marathon and they had. Love jazz band playing. Good food, decent service.

Wonderful experience

By fishnurse72 |

This is the best surprise you will find in downtown Houston dining. Great steak on Tuesday and Thursday. Live music when I was there. Service was excellent. Great view of downtown Houston also.

Super Value Steak Night

By Cynthia S |

I had been craving a steak since I read a local article about the best steak nights in Houston. I almost chose another but they switched nights. Market Bar is a small bistro bar and alfresco dining venue located in The Phoenicia Gourmet Grocer in a luxury downtown apartment building. It's decor and offerings are reminiscent of far continents. Live music and specialty food nights. I had a great craft cocktail called a Ginger Blossom that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I went with the ribeye steak dinner for 12.99pp. A generous house salad with lemon vinegarette dressing over bed of romaine, cucumbers, tomatoes and manchego. The steak comes with a mound of crispy onion strings and a choice of pomme frites or half of a fresh twice baked potato. I went with the potato. My steak presented with the standard chimichurri sauce was severely undercooked, even though the sign said the medium well I had ordered.

Quaint and relaxing

By BigSnuff |

Stopped in because we heard some amazing live jazz music. Found seats at the bar and looked over the menu. There were plenty of craft beers to choose from, but what intrigued me was the variety of drinks on the menu that used wines as the alcohol (no liquor). Don't let that stop you as it was amazing! The grapefruit rita was heavenly on a hot day. If you're in the neighborhood and want to experience something different, give them a shot!

Great food, nice beers, reasonable priced

By wilenwiel2016 |

Good place to go, crowded on a tuesday evening, lots of locals. Have a nice selection of local beers and some reasonably priced food of good quality. Placeis a bit nOisy so difficult to have a chat. But for the rest best place to eat close to the convention centre.

Definitely best place so far

By Miiichaaaa |

I've been in Houston more than 15 times, and this is the best place ever. - service : 100% - food: 100% - wifi: yes. - live music : fantastic - price : cheap - beer: 12 varieties on tap

Good place to before a concert or sports event at Toyota center

By Ciahasher |

This place is attached to Phoenicia market but functions as a standalone bar and restaurant on its own. They have five dollar glasses of house wine which is what we tried before heading off to the basketball game. I tried the red blend which wasn't bad.. I had two of them in fact. Service is quick, waiters are friendly.. good cost effective alternative to eating and drinking at Toyota center (where it's ten bucks for a beer). I'll be back!

Cool Place to Eat with a Perk

By Edward Bell |

Wonderful place to eat with great staff. The food was terrific and not too overly priced. Good choice of pizzas and burgers with a kinda old timey-whimy vibe to it. Would recommend it to anyone visiting Houston and will plan on eating there again. The perk- a cool little grocery shop that shares the bar's foot print. Wide variety of goods, fresh foods, ethic foods are sold here. Usually closes around 10 pm each night with access available through MKT. If you wanna cook but don't know where to find the fresh food from, this is the place to get it.

Delicious brekkie

By KellyAnne H |

We had a gift certificate and decided to check this out for brunch prior to an Astros game. We ordered various lattes, the chicken and waffles and a breakfast scramble. The food was outstanding. Service was quick, reasonably pleasant but a little lacking in some knowledge (i.e. when asked where the coffee beans are from, the answer was "I don't drink coffee"). Highly recommend the chicken and waffles--the Moroccan spiced syrup was delicious (and not quite enough for the big serving of waffle and chicken). We'd absolutely come back again.

Yummy food

By Patti L |

We ate there twice during a recent visit (once for lunch, once for dinner). Food was great both times, and service was good. I recommend it for fun food!

Great food great DJ great night

By John McD |

Visited on a Saturday night. Food is really good and well priced. Place was not too crowded, but good atmosphere. What made the night was the excellent DJ. Highly recommend for a great night out

Funky & Quirky

By FoodFight101 |

Visiting Houston for the first time, we sought places popular with the locals. After reading the accolades about MKT Bar, located inside Phoenicia Foods, we were curious to experience it for ourselves. On this Sunday evening, oddly enough, the funky space was packed with millennials enjoying live music (good but wayyy too loud). The host was considerate to seat our family as far as possible from the crowded bar area. Though not strangers to Mediterranean food, we found MKT’s menu somewhat quirky. Our server delighted in explaining the mystery items. The chow was hit-and-miss. We liked the inventive beverages and the MKT salad, thought the za’atar-dusted shoestring fries were okay, and found the roasted half chicken tasty but overcooked. As for the MKT fish & chips, the “seasoned and lightly fried Atlantic cod” was enveloped in a thick, doughy batter which I ended up pulling off. I assumed the chickpea fries would taste like falafel. Nope, they were bland. Only the accompanying ramekin of garlic aioli rescued this entree. We enjoyed a shared dessert, warm apple baklava with a scoop of snickerdoodle gelato, more than anything else.

Great pizza

By Ray C |

I was not too hungry so I just wanted a small dinner. Enjoyed a great flatbread pizza and a beverage. I had been here a couple of years ago when in town and this place was on my list of places to return to. Glad I did. The attached grocery is interesting to browse through even if you aren't buying.

Great Downtown Spot - Food, Drinks, Groceries

By SPK1951 |

Great spot in a new-ish downtown building - look for the sign for the inside buiilding reserved parking. Food to order is really good; bar selections - wine, beer, and drinks are quite suitable as well. Next door and upstairs is a great international grocery - with lots of ready to buy and eat items. I have purchased the entire selection of business lunch items there with great success.

Great Breakfast buffet

By ydritch2016 |

Family breakfast held there and the food was delish and plentiful with a wonderful selection of entrees.

Great food and atmosphere

By Scott A |

Stopped by to check out MKT Bar while at the attached specialty market. Very nice bar and great food as well. Service was very good and waitress was very friendly. Definitely going back again.

Music and Food

By tazman1099 |

Came in because they have regular live music. Small Indie band as okay. Drinks were $6-9 for a cocktail/beer. Dinner was $14 per entree. Food was pretty good, At the Austin St Burger of note.

Good group outing

By JP3CHICAGO |

MKT hosted a nice group outing for one of our customers. The staff did a nice job and the food was very tasty. The side area worked great for a semi private group function area.

Fun and eclectic, a few small issues

By Ladylaz |

Had the happy hour specials (had to ask for them). Drinks good, appetizers large and tasty. Salad weirdly small. Service attentive, but when we tipped 20% waiter looked insulted?

Fungal growth in food

By tcjmertens |

Cheese toppings had fungal growth inside and when we asked for new, again we got one with fungal growth. I complained to the manager and received not even an apology. I love the store but will never return for lunch.

Pizza and beer

By Carlos G |

After a baseball game we where looking for a place to eat something, this bar had free parking in the street, ordered two different pizzas and imported beers, taste and service was great.

Nice but ordinary

By Markfoodie |

A nice but somewhat generic bar... Staff were good and the place is clean but expected more from a bar that is part of one of the best local specialty food stores in downtown Houston... Nothing on the menu pointed at anything special but was wholesome food. There are better places to drink or grab a bar bite in the CBD with a lot more character.

Saturday night dj fantastic food was decent

By Anni R |

The food was good. My friends has the baked chicken and they all said it was dry. I had sliders and they were good. Great atmosphere.

Downtown Bar

By Mike60984 |

I went for dinner last week. It was bad weather at that time and I really appreciated the free parking garage that is attached. This bar is attached to a real downtown grocery store (Phoenicia). The design of this bar is a little unusual in that being attached to the grocery store gives it a different ambiance that a stand alone bar does. MKT has a full service bar and a food menu that consists more of a restaurant feel that typical bar food. Some of the steaks and other entrees are more expensive than you would think. There is also a small stage that accommodates singers or other performers to do their thing. Attending a happy hour event that lasted longer than planned I decided to eat dinner here. Having already munched on some provided appetizers I decided on the fish and chips that come with chickpea fries and a small container of Asian slaw. The food arrived a bout 15 minutes after ordering. I thought the fish was good in taste and gave them a (3.5). I enjoyed them. The chickpea fries were large in size put didn't turn me on with their taste. I guess God made fries with the idea that they should come from a potato. (2). The slaw was good and tangy (3). My table service was good (3.5). Like most bars this one gets loud as it is one room with no partitions to help deaden sound. It also has a separate street entrance so you don't have to go in the grocery store entrance. I have eaten at this place once before and I believe a 3 is fair for the food quality. I am sure that downtown residents like this place because they can walk to it.

Great little bar and restaurant

By Blmhouston |

People grab lunch at the Phoenician and eat at this bar but in the evening it’s more of a traditional pub with table service and a good bar food menu. There’s a Mediterranean twist to the menu. Fresh sangria is really good.

Great place

By scantrill2017 |

We had steak night I believe it was Tuesday. Great steak and excellent cheesecake. Would definitely recommend.

Killer gourmet bodega

By Brad D |

I had a lamb wrap that was excellent as well a fresh shrimp spring roll, also good. Bought a little packet of German Speck which was delicious. They have an isle of pistachios of different flavor/spices thats pretty sweet. Just go and buy a bunch of whatever and eat some of it at the tables, you'll be happy.

Great place for Dinner and a Drink

By palama8505 |

Stopped in to get groceries and notices the restaurant and bar. They have themed nights and a steak dinner night twice a week. Great break from the usual hotel or random restaurant meals of my weekly business trips to Houston.

Was OK

By sherimt1 |

I stopped by for brunch on a Sunday at around 9:30 am. The server was very nice but everything took a while. Make sure you go when you have time to wait. I ordered a mimosa and waffle. The waffle was ok. I felt it looked better than it tasted. I'm glad I tried it out but may just try lunch or dinner next time I'm in town. **They also open at 9 for brunch on Sat and Sunday.

Large group accommodations

By Aileen H |

It’s important to share that this venue was willing to accommodate an 11 person party who all wanted separate checks on a Friday night. The server was outstanding. I ordered the lamb tacos. They were a great blend of giro flavors on a taco. There was, however too much meat on them. I ordered a salad and it was agreed upon that it would come out “as an appetizer.” It came out with the meal. But these things were minor compared to the other excellent flavors and service.

Great Vibe

By Love2Travel26x2 |

Dined here with my husband during happy hour. This place has a great vibe - good for people and families of all ages. Great food and happy hour specials. Live music is a plus. Give their Queso with pita chips a try - it was delicious

Very good

By P_H_Helsinki_Finland |

Come to this restaurant because of the good reviews and a location close to our hotel. The Place was packed on a friday night but we managed to get a table for two. Very friendly staff and good food. Did not have any beer that I usually drink (bud light, miller lite, mich ultra) but anyway ended up drinking a good tasting beer. Food was kinda exotic but good, me and the wife both liked it. Liked the atmosphere in the restaurant too, dj playing music etc. Would visit again if in Houston.

Wonderful!

By mauiloverxo |

I was looking for a place for a lite lunch. I past this busy place which is attached to an absolutely beautiful, gourmet, up-scale, two-story market. It was crowded, but there were a few tables avbl. They had live music and a few people were dancing (at lunchtime). They had a nice menu--everything that went by looked great. I ordered the ceviche w pita chips and it was some of the best I've had. Delicious! The drink menu is a little different, it's wine- and sake-based cocktails, beer, and other. I had a sparkling lemonade and it was delicious--not too sweet, not too blah.

Great Atmosphere, okay food & drink - TERRIBLE SERVICE

By Nicole W |

My group of 4 four went to the MKT Bar last night before a concert. We arrived at 6:00pm and didn't get our first drink until 6:30pm. We ordered an appetizer and two of their specials. All of the food, finally, came out at 7:00pm. My husband wanted a beer, and after waiting for 15 minutes for someone to come, he went to the bar to order it. Our waiter saw him there, and told him he would bring the drink to him - which he did 15 MINUTES LATER! He got the beer at the same time we were ready for the check. However, the icing on the cake was that one of the chairs was soaking wet - and my husband's pants were soaked. When he said something to the waiter - he said "Oh yea, someone spilled water on it"!! WTH! Why not move the chair so no one sits in it! We will not go back.

Another Disappointing Visit

By Hifzi A |

It was once again very disappointing. Market seems to be very inconsistent. Every now and then seem to get really bad service and food. The service was very very slow. The sliders were overcooked almost to the degree of burnt. They were hard to swallow. The fries they looked like something else. If we ever go back, we will bring the food from Phoenicia and order the drinks.

Good Craft Beer Selection

By longhornjz |

I tried this place out for lunch with a friend today. The plantain chips were a nice appetizer, and they have good craft beers to choose from, including flights if you can't decide on one to try. I got the kale salad with chicken for my meal. I would have liked to see more ingredients on the salad, but it was still good. Trendy, cool place to check out.

Good food, good vibe

By Love2Globetrot |

We stumbled across this place and were so glad that we did. We were here on a Friday night and there was live country music playing which was nice. The food was also delicious, a great price and the waiter was so helpful and friendly. Recommend this place!

Best Raspberry Mojito ever!

Excellent service, great ambiance, the food and drinks were amazing, music was very nice and good prices.

It's a Bar, So Expect Noise

By davemh333 |

My daughter and I ate dinner here, and the food was surprisingly good. Prices were reasonable as well. Much more than basic bar food, the menu included several interesting salads and pizzas, as well as main courses. My halibut was quite good.

Beer, wine and yum yum food!!!

By Marilu M |

So ambiance rocks, food is a plus and their beer and wine lists are exquisite. Love this place as it is right next to Discovery green and we often travel into town to visit park with children. Love the food and drink experience at the mkt oh and le music as well. Children are welcome and afterwards you should run and purchase some international food at the super market. Great way to spend a weekend evening or afternoon! Cheers and enjoy!

Hard to get service — reasonably priced food

By 1277529 |

We had to move tables twice to get served and the restaurant was hardly full. Although the food was reasonably priced, the strange out of sync vibe of the staff was kind of off putting. Maybe it’s better during live music, maybe we came during new staff. Side salad with shrimp was basic but good. Plantain chips crunchy and a fun eat with the dip.

Wow, so good!

By Lojeslj |

This gem is tucked into the Phoenician Market. You can get sandwiches and food to go in the market, or you can go a bit further down the sidewalk and get a bit different menu served to you. Our waiter, Benjamin, was delightful. The warm apple baklava is now my favorite dessert this side of Vegas. It's basically apple strudel, with the sweet coming from the apples themselves and the snickerdoodle ice cream on top. The baklava and filling is not overly sweet and the perfect counterpoint. Yum! We also shared a Farmer's MKT pizza with an oddly tasty combination of veggies, apples, and pears. I'm just sad we weren't hungrier so we could try more selections. After your meal, wander the market, especially upstairs, where there's a great selection of gourmet/non-Texas food items.

A godsend in the the desert of downtown Houston

By chalouisduletz |

Stuck in the Hilton Americas hotel for a conference with limited and expensive food options, thank heavens for Phoenicia! Her presence spread among the attendees faster than a wildfire in Abilene, well worth the steamy two-block trek from the hotel. All kinds of great grocery items, but for the visitor the highlight was the excellent salad bar with plenty of on-site seating. Fresh ingredients, well-maintained an replenished, even an in-house pita break bakery. Make a beeline for Phoenicia if you are a foodie marooned in the Houston convention center wasteland.

busy/noisy, bad timing, steak too rare

By l0tusbl0ss0m |

Atmosphere was noisy & busy with DJ playing on stage- nice tunes...a mix of business happy hour goers and locals. Came during their special steak night (Tue/Thur) for $12.99 you get a chef's choice cut of steak with your choice of twice-baked potato (my choice) or fries and a salad (was very good). I had asked for med. rare and it came out very rare- after I waited a while (hubby already finished his whole meal in the meantime) the waitress brought back a new potato and new steak cooked to my liking. Our seafood ceviche appetizer, drinks, salad & steak meals ALL came out at the SAME time! Table was small and could not hold the ginormous plates of food. I was worried of the steak going cold...bad timing. Waitress was apologetic and offered a free dessert. Gelato was delish! I will return to try other menu items.

"Fun Place!"

I really enjoyed having dinner at this casual and fun restaurant! We had the lamb tacos and sliders and both were very good. The house side salad was to die for! We also tried the wine pairing option on the menu and the wine wasn't bad. My only complaint is if you sit in the booths located against the wall the cold air from the vent blows on you, so we ended up having to move to a table located in the middle of the restaurant. Other than that, everything was great and I look forward to returning in a few weeks when I'm back in Houston. Enjoy!

Steak Night!

Easy going and laid back venue- very busy even mid-week! Recommend booking if you can. Quality food in a clean restaurant and meals served with plenty of time before having to walk to the Toyota stadium for the basketball. Friendly staff are always available to answer questions. Would come back.

Amazing Waffles

We come her for Brunch quite often. The Chicken and waffles are amazing. They also have a fair price on pitchers of Mimosa. I'm not a fan of their dinner selection as the store itself has better food than what is offered in the bar, but the Brunch dishes are sooo good.

Great Markett, Bar and Restaurant

By Jays911 |

This place is epic. Whole Foods on steroids. We have been to the mothership in Austin, and it is like double or triple A to this joint. All I can say is the variety and quality of the food and drink is all first rate. They have great entertainment at night, and wonderful specials. The service is excellent. Do yourself a favor and go.

After walking past all the 100 dollar empty chain steak houses, I found this place. 12.95 rib eyes Tues and Thurs and 19 sirloins. Very busy for a reason - its good!

Great location for just about anything

This is a great place for almost anything. Great food bar. There is a wonderful wine selection upstairs. Fun gifts, books, t-shirts, etc. We just enjoyed walking around the place.

Average

By myklrl |

The vibe here was cool with live music, a busy bar, and the whole place is attached to what appears to be a grocery store (didn't have time to explore). The food was so-so....menu was limited and I ordered the goat tacos which were rather bland. They had a selection of gelato for dessert but the flavors were limited and rather uninspiring. With a menu refresh this could be a great place. As it stands....just average.

Good Beer, Good Food

By Melissa S |

This restaurant is attached to a grocery store, which makes it strange to find. When we finally did, it was packed. We made it for happy hour and got two local beers. Our server was great, but he had no knowledge of beer, which left us guessing. The queso is great! We highly recommend it. We ordered the Farmer's MKT pizza, and depending on the piece, it was either wonderful or bland because the toppings weren't evenly distributed. The burger was good, but the bun was much too large for the burger, so it made for dry bites. It's a fun atmosphere and would be a great gathering spot for friends.

Good Friday evening hangout for snack and free entertainment.

Every so often there's open mike or a musical up and coming talent on Friday evenings...buy pastry/food to go inside the grocery and wine at cafe and it makes for a nice jaunt to end the week.....

Completely Cold and Inedible

By Elisabeth B |

I have been here many times, but the last three meals here have been terrible. Tonight I waited an hour for a burger and fries. Finally got my food. Completely cold. Fries glued together with grease. Burger cold, even the meat. Completely inedible and threw it in the trash. Deeply disappointed.
