Just had the best Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy that I have ever had. You have the option of ordering fries or mashed potatoes. The meal comes with a drink and Texas toast. Truly this meal was outstanding. All for just $6.95. So come on San Antonio lets pack this place out.

Had lunch with friends here. MK Davis is a hidden gem in San Antonio and if you know where it is, you will understand why it gets busy. Had a great chicken fried steak accompanied by a schooner of Dos Equis. Well worth visiting and highly recommended.

Best chicken fried steak and the COLDEST draft beer. MK Davis is a must when visiting SA. The ambience & the wait staff are the BEST.

Food is delicious. Customer Service was great. Been coming here for many years now. Would totally recommend it for tasty and cheap food. The chicken fried steak is great & a cold beer (for those who like their beers in schooners) is recommended.

M k Davis has been around for like a thousand years. This place has withstood the test of time and little has changed in here. But that's a good thing! A classic American Diner that feels like walking into grandpa's house and he's making you a nice homemade meal. They have a nice assortment of things to choose from, chicken fried steak, fried chicken, fried fish, salads, grilled chicken breast and even Mexican food! They do a lot and they do it well. Now, I don't know that any of the food will blow you away but the schooners most definitely will. Those babies are ice cold and cheap! I think almost everybody in town has some kind of fond memory of M K Davis. I know I have some and I look forward to making more!

MK's is still one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio! Cold beer, fried fish, mexican food, fried chicken or the chicken fried steak. The voters of San Antonio voted MK 's as one of the best chicken fried steaks. You can't go wrong with any of the above choices. Today was no exception! The only downside is probably the location....not very close to the tourist downtown on the San Antonio River....lucky for the locals. This place always gets crowded! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We ate here Friday night. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. We each had a schooner of cold Shiner Bock, chips and salsa and Mexican plates. The chips and salsa were good as were our Mexican plates. The waitress proved great service. We would go back.

For years my family and I have eaten here and each time is a hit. Different dishes to chose from and many people frequent. Best advice is give yourself time. Waiting times are a bit longer than usual and although parking is provided in both a lot next to the building and across, we can find ourselves circling for a closer walk. Amazing food anyway!

We chose this place on a weeknight as it was close to where we stayed and they had free parking and had good reviews. The line was horrible. We waited an hour for a table. They were allowing people with drinks and no food to sit in the dinig room taking up tables while there were empty seats in the bar. That was strange to me. We finally got seated. Service was slow and waitress kept forgetting the extras we asked for like sour cream and mayo. I ordered a margarita and was informed they do not have a full bar. Food was edible but less than stellar. Not worth the wait.

food is good and huge portions! Come hungry but be prepared to wait as sometimes the line is long and you are seated as quickly as possible. Try the homemade wine coolers or if you prefer beer get a schooner they are nice and cold. Used to be a lounge and has some of the original paper on the walls from way back when. Onion rings and Crispy dogs are a must try.

MK Davis is a great place to get a cold schooner of beer or a schooner of margaritas. We all had sea food and it was delicious. Shrimp and fish were delicious.service was great.

Always looking for a new place, this one was suggested on a social media website. Why not.. so we gave it a shot. We noted a local crowd scene, so we figured it was good. This is an interesting place.. tables are very close together, so there is not a lot of privacy. The service was good, as well as the food. Be prepared to wait if you come past 5:30 or so!

Visited San Antonio early July and headed down to have a true schooner! The place had Diego serving up the beers even 11 years since my last visit. Food was great and the jukebox had tex mex music all night . Highly recommend it!!!

Oh my goodness! Joe was an awesome waiter. He suggested the chiliburger. The chili is their own recipe. I want it! It was FANTASTIC! I had to pretend like I was an adult to keep from licking the plate. The venue is cozy. They do have a meeting room. The prices were reasonable. My friend also suggests the 32 ounce schooner! They are known for that. Only 21 and older though.

My crew and I went to MK Davis for our weekly Friday group lunch. There were 6 of us today and we were immediately seated, waited on and we received our food within 7-10 minutes of being seated. I would suggest getting there before 12Noon to assure seating and parking. We all ordered lunch specials, which averaged less than $8 per plate. The food and the service are well-worth the price!

Great little hidden gem of San Antonio. Since the remodel, it's really brightened up inside. Food is still fantastic and the beer is ice cold. Great for family dining, couples, groups of friends or just cozy up at the bar. Fried Pollock fish plate, Chicken Fried Steak and Crispy Dogs are my all time favorites! Wash 'me down with an ice cold 32 ounce schooner of you favorite beer! If you staying close to downtown...gove it a try. Closed. Mondays and Thursdays are always extra busy, so be prepared to wait a bit. You'll love it!

Chicken Fried Steak one of the best in SA. The beef cutlet is also just as good. Not the place if your looking for a fancy or TEX/MEX atmosphere... But if your about the food, this is the place.

The food has always been acceptable, the beer good and cold and the servers attentive. The only issue we have had on the last few visits is younger hostesses who are lost, don't smile and have zero personality. Come on being a hostess can't be that difficult! You are the first and last impression on your guest so try a little.

MK Davis is very central to downtown for tourist that want to get away from expensive restaurants. I love their fish plates, but they have everything from mexican plates to great hamburgers. They are very popular for their ice cold beer schooners. The atmosphere is friendly.

Went here per recommendation hoping for great food. What we got was average. My wife had a bacon cheeseburger and fries while I had the three chicken taco plate. The overall taste of the burger was ok, however the bacon was amazing. My chicken tacos were tender but lacked any kind of seasoning. The refries were basic as well as the rice. Our food wasn't bad by any standards, but I left feeling like I could have duplicated or made better the same meal at home. After we ate, the waitress recommended the chicken fried chicken, but that should have been mentioned before we ordered. This place does appear to be a good spot for happy hour though with cheap drinks and a nice bar.

My family and I recently ate here with my father-in-law for Father's Day. It is one of his favorite restaurants, but I had never been. It offers comfort food, Mexican food, burgers, etc. Basic offerings, but reliably good. I really liked their fries. What I liked most about the restaurant was how nice the staff was, and not just to customers. All of the staff- cooks, servers, busboys, etc- were nice to each other and seemed to really like working together. This created a very pleasant atmosphere.

Lived nearby for 30 years and finally tried it. Should have done that years ago! Good comfort food, large servings and reasonable prices. Can't wait to go back

Where to begin . . . years of baseball team Friday afternoon (when one of the biggest employers in town had a 4 day work week) watering hole get togethers, evening tex-mex repast, great lunches, all worth the trip down to 5 points. Since others have described the red flocked wall paper, dark, get-your-eyes-used to-the-low-light interior, old juke box with my favorite - El Paso by Marty Robbins, and a nice long bar, I will move on to the food. First of all the nachos - really good basic bean and cheese made separately (I hate it when they pile the chips up and throw everything on top hit-or-miss); then the good basic plate of cheese enchiladas one, two, or three, your choice, with rice and beans - pretty standard. the fish and chicken fried are also main stays here. But the schooners of beer . . . . !! I once brought a spot check thermometer to check the beer temperature in a tour of the town for the coldest beer around. The bartender saw what I was doing and quietly said "31 degrees". As the pointer on the thermometer crept towards that forecast number, a small piece of ice floated off the bottom of the frosty glass that was fresh from the freezer. 31 degrees it was!!! So my friends, if you are an afficionado of well established neighborhood restaurants/watering holes, this is the place for you. Those watching their calories, on a diet, are afraid of fried foods and paranoid of grease content, "need not apply". Remember. "all things in moderation!" Even California and New Mexico "mexican food" ,tofu and sushi have their place (just not in my mouth - just kidding).

I've been enjoying this place for over 25 years now... Really warm service, really good food done well in very clean surroundings. Large cold schooners served on a stainless steel bar (or at your table, of course) Come and enjoy - but leave your snooty friends at home!

Prior review left me thinking this would be a knock your socks off kind of place, but we found it lacking. I had the cod plate, and my first thought was that they had purchased the breaded fillets at Sam's Club. The pollock plate looked the same. My wife and daughter had burgers and they commented that they must have come from Sysco. The rest of the meal, fries, salad and such were okay, but really average. My mini-schooner was very cold and served in a very heavy glass, but probably about 12 - 16 oz. of actual liquid. The service was good, though our server forgot about her three tables in the back when we were ready to leave and we had to find her to get our tickets. We had had Mexican for lunch and chicken fried steak was too heavy for the late hour. It just wasn't a great visit for us.

My wife and 4 friends came for the first time. Right off the bat, the service was great. Service was great throughout the night! Great prices, large portions but the food was basic. Tons of food options but nothing to write home about. Beers only come in large goblets - which is always a plus!

Giant beer schooners, great Mexican food, chicken fried steak, and fish. Mk has some of everything! Been around for years! Nice place to meet, drink and eat. Cool place to take friends from out of town.

My friend recommended this place. I had the seafood platter. Just pass on that. One of my friends had the chicken fried steak which she enjoyed and another had sirloin steak that she enjoyed. It was a busy Saturday afternoon. But the food came out fast.

This place has super fast service and the food was really good. I loved the chicken fried steak. The beers looked interesting too, too bad we were still on working duty.

I've been coming here since the 70's so I may a bit biased in my review. The schooner's are legendary and the food is great. Try the Nachos Compuestos as an appetizer. They go great with the cold beer. It's important to note that they do NOT have a full bar, even though they have long bar area. Considering how long it's been open, they've only expanded once and they are known for LONG lines during lunch and dinner. If you go on a Friday evening don't be surprised if your in line for at least an hour...If you can stand that, the meal will be worth it.

Disappointing, it may be iconic but that doesn't make it good. Canned fountain drinks that were flat per son. Fries were bland and soggy. Tortilla chips were tough and not to my liking. Other son barely touched his enchiladas. My burger was good enough. Wait staff were unimpressive.

i love the onion rings from here! they also have pretty good lunch specials!

OK...everyone this is your “Hole in the Wall” where the locals eat. The fried fish is either fried pollack or cod....get the cheaper one by $1.00...that would be the pollack. It’s the most popular. CF steak is also great. Don’t forget the Mexican food. I’ve been eating here for over 50 years. Now for the best part...order a large ice cold “Schooner” 🍺that’s 2 beers in a large mug. So cold it will make your eyes hurt. Very dark inside for privacy???

We were shocked at the terrible service. We actually walked out. I've been to MK Davis many times and the service seems to keep going downhill. This used to be a hotspot with good food. Unfortunately we didn't even get to eat this time. We walked in during lunch hour and were surprised there wasn't a line. (Now we know why). We were seated right away. Then we waited...and waited...and waited. We looked around but could not find a waitress so I got up to ask the front cashier for help. She said she would send someone. Then we waited...and waited again. Not a glass of water, not a "hello" - nothing. We sat there for about 20 minutes before we left. As we exited, we told the cashier we were tired of waiting. She shrugged and said "sorry". Such a huge disappointment.

If you haven’t been; you should at least give it a try. Allow some time; as there may be a little wait. Locals know this place and come back time and again. While not fine dining; it is a great place for some comfort food and a Schooner of beer. Once seated, service was fast. Stopped in for lunch and had the fish special. Good sized piece of fish, a couple onion rings, slaw and fries for $7. Other specials included a really nice Chicken Fried Chicken. Worth the wait. Parking can be found in multiple Davis lots across the streets and behind the building.

The MK Davis Restaurant is a hometown favorite. Since the '50s the restaurant has served home style favorites like Chicken - Fried Steak, Fried chicken, Fish, Burgers and Tex-Mex along with ice-cold schooners of beer in a family friendly atmosphere. The food is always well prepared and tasty, and portions are large enough to satisfy most appetites. The restaurant can accommodate large groups and a party room is available for gatherings. Service is friendly and courteous but be prepared for a wait on weekends!

We headed to this place for the first time after living in San Antonio my whole life. I gotta say, the only thing I was disappointed about was that I hadn't tried it earlier. Everything was great! I will definitely return.

These people deliver exactly what they promise on the menu with many fried options, and there are no real nutritional promises. If you are a burgers and beer type, you've found the place. When you step outside you realize that you smell just like that large basket of onion rings that every table around you ordered. So, maybe you aren't what you eat, you just smell like it.

The nachos were excellent just as good as some Mexican Food restaurant. They were the old fashion way & not just things put on top of them. The meat & beans were season well & layer high. The chicken fried steak & HB steaks were excellent & lot of it. It's a great value for your money & the beers are huge & very cold. The service is good & staff is very friendly & helpful. All the food had a great taste & large quantity.

I love the food here!! Have to try the chicken fried steak!! The schooners are amazing! Just wish the service was better! It was pretty bad

Ate here the other night with family. The place is nostalgic on the inside. The menu has a little of everything on it. Everything we had at our table was good. The Onion Rings were hand battered and perfectly fried. Food was fast service was adequate. If you want a great meal and ice cold beer this is your place

This is a go to diner for folks that live in San Antonio. They have the best fried chicken in town or a chicken fried steak. Plenty of other options and large sized drinks. Plenty of parking but you might have to wait 10 or 15 minutes and drink a beer if it is Friday night or other popular times. Service has always been great.

We had a group of six ad were there a just the right time. This is the place to go if you truly like genuine Mexican food. We were served huge platter of the most delicious food I've tasted, complete with a variety of beers. Great atmosphere! RECOMMENDED!

Recommend and decided to try it for my dad birthday day, the place is small and because it’s small there was a long wait there was no where to wait so cramped inside since it was cold outside . Once we were seated we had to move to fit our party in a better table, the waitress took a while to get organize and finally take our drink order and our food order. My wife asked for chicken breast tacos and was told they don’t have any she would have to order a chicken breast then cut it her self to put in taco, she then ask if she can get 2 shredded chicken taco and they said they have it in 3s finally they said they would do the 2 and when my wife ask to put cheese in them they said they can’t they can only put cheese on top of them. I don’t under how difficult it was to grant the request, the food it self is not very good the tortillas are not home made and for what I paid I could have gone to a better spot where the food was better and they would take my request, even the parking lot is small. Not worth the wait, I will not visit again.

Comfort food in an uncomfortable neighborhood. Worth it.

Ordered Fried chicken. Made to order, so order as soon as you arrive. Wife had the fish and shrimp. We both had water, but the schooners of beer are always nice and cold. Their chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken are also good. Chef salad is also a nice choice. Everything on the menu is good.

The chicken fried steak is the best...get some onion rings too!...Lots to choose from, fried chicken, fish, steaks, enchiladas and giant mugs of beer. Large portions at a reasonable price.

Came here after shopping at the Outlets in San Marcos and this place didn’t disappoint. Visiting from California and my pop told us about this place and the drinks. Great prices for the food and great taste. Fish sandwich was delicious. Ordered a large Michelob Ultra in a schooner and glass and beer were ice cold. So cold we ordered another round. I will definitely ask to stop by here when I visit my parents again
First time but will be back
Other reviews recommended and also warned of lines and were accurate. We went early but line already, still, moved fairly quickly. We sat at bar and had great service. The staff was all friendly and efficient, the draft beer served in frosted glasses so big took 2 hands for me to hold-and that was the small one! Food was good-had the chicken friend steak and meat was tender, fries fresh and hot and good, servings large but not giant-size where I wasted a lot of food.
