Come hungry, Leave in bliss

By KateB |

Unique dishes, both sweet and savory, that were beautifully prepared, fresh, and absolutely delicious were served with attention to detail. Coffee was yummy, atmosphere was lively and upbeat. We shall return!

Mmmmm

By Chicagontheroad |

Yes, this is the place your friends and coworkers have been telling you about, now get in there and order yourself something good!  I personally LOVE the fried egg sandwich. It is on the high price end, but really good food. You don't feel like you're being taken. For cheep diner like breakfast see my review for Golden Pancake House.

Great way to start the day

By Oyam123 |

We loved this place. Great food, service and atmosphere. Never felt rushed and even after my 5th cup of coffee LOL! Food was well prepared and well presented. Large portions and daily specials offer a good value. We will be back.

Fluffy pancakes

By Shelly S |

Great food and friendly service. Our waiter even helped us figure out the L system. The pancakes were big and fluffy and the banana berry french toast was delish!

Yummy Breakfast

By Arthur S |

The food is excellent, and anything that you would select from the menu will be awesome! The server was prompt and attentive!

Delightful & Delicious

By LawrenceDoane |

The menu is small but there is definitely something for everyone in this lovely Andersonille hotspot!!! I found the staff very courteous and helpful. The servings are quite substantial and very affordable... It's BYOB only as they have no license to serve alcohol but make up for that with a great beverage menu. I will definitely stop by again on my next visit to Chicago!!'

Absolute Best for Breakfast

By Chris A |

On each visit to our grandchildren in Evanston, we make at least two trips here for breakfasts, particularly the Sunday Brunch. Most enjoyable times with family, excellent healthy food, top notch service and I don't worry about the price. It is well worth the time together at a relaxing breakfast with family. Absolute treat for all.

Very Good Neighborhood Choice

By Eric F |

We had brunch there on a recent Thursday morning. Seating was quick and service was friendly and efficient. I had 2 eggs (scrambled) with breakfast potatoes and a side of bacon. Other diners had the fried egg sandwich (huge!) and 2 eggs (over easy) with a side of pancakes. The food was delicious and nicely presented. We were dealt with promptly but never felt rushed.

A tasty vegan meal -- really.

By Newby |

Went for breakfast on a weekday. Busy but not crowded or rushed. Had the "Vegan Epiphany," based on scrambled tofu with lots of spices and vegetables. Looked beautiful and tasted even better. Nice work. Very friendly and capable servers.

Yuppie breakfast tastes

By Terence B |

Great if you want something other than diner food. There's usually a line of people at the weekends. If you want a regular eggs etc. breakfast then go elsewhere. Here you will be treated to upscale bakery food that pleases the eye, fills the stomach, and warms the heart.

A little bit of Sausalito in Chicago

By Golfingkicks |

Great breakfast! Terrific service, funky, yet cozy decor. Tremendous overall experience. Next time in town a must! Peasant quiche! Maple glazed bacon! Chicken sausages! Huevos Rancheros! Pancakes!

Great Breakfast Spot.

By khonkaen |

Usually Big Jones is my go to spot for breakfast, but I was taken to M Henry last week and now I have found a new place. First of all Andersonville is such a great neighborhood and this restaurant fits right in. The food quality is high, service strong, and the coffee keeps flowing. If you show up and are asked to wait for a table, it is worth the wait. All food is cooked to order, resulting in slower cooking time than a traditional breakfast spot, but your patience will pay off once your food arrives.

Go Early to Avoid a Long Wait

By WindyCityTravelBug |

After living in Chicago for four years, the praise of M. Henry's brunch could not be ignored any longer. My husband and I got up early on a Saturday morning so that we would arrive at the restaurant around 9AM (M. Henry does not accept reservations). Perfect - no wait for a party of 2. We were seated in the main dining area. Service was immediate and consistently excellent throughout our meal. M. Henry's own blend of coffee is delicious. I would highly recommend that those individuals with a sweet tooth order the small dish of bread pudding (more than enough to share between two people). In addition to the regular menu, we were presented with "Today's Specials" which offered nearly too much to choose from. The apple cranberry french toast was out of this world while the goat cheese roasted vegetable omelet was good, but not extraordinary. We left the restaurant around 10:15 AM and there was a significant line.

Good food and service

By Charles M |

Fresh fruit was the highlight of Sunday brunch. Good coffee and tea, too. Go early. Line forms at 11 and continues through noon hour.

High expectations... Met

By LoupMom |

This was our first stop when we arrived to Chicago, what a great choice. The entire family loved the food and the experience. Was a fairly hot day in Early August, but we accepted an outdoor patio table and were pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it was. Most of the tables are shaded and they have fans creating a nice breeze. Service was excellent, wait was short and the food was yummy. The Balsmaic Chicken sandwich was excellent, same for all the dishes and the drinks were great too. We didn't pass up picking up some dessert items from the bakery case either. Delicious!

Great great place for a top brunch

By Hugo B |

Had the pleasure to meet the owner, which is a chef entrepreneur like myself and I had to congratulate him for the warm hospitality and great food . The presentation, taste and food selection, super. Our waiter Juan was especially right on , efficient and always with a smile. If you want a seat don't go there late ...you will have to wait . Congrats again we wil be back.

Good but overated for brunch

By DamarisseM |

Terribly noisy!!! prepare yourself for a half hour waiting on Sunday's Brunch. Bad coffee. Need a barista. Pancakes are common, dries and no memorable at all. Cinammon roll french toast is just a common cinammon roll with syrop and fruits (peaches and grapes). Rustic Peasant Quiche was good but salad was terribly bad (tasteless and looked withered). Servers were very helpful. In summary I traveled 20 minutes from downtown Chicago for an overrated place.

Delish!

By burcino427 |

Wonderful brunch/breakfasts! Service is pretty good. Because tables are packed in pretty tight, I think they probably can't have as many servers as they actually need during busy times (like weekend brunch). So, for people who pound down coffee like I do, anticipate waiting for refills. Otherwise, we've never been disappointed in our meal no matter what we ate. Portions are quite large and the expense is reasonable. I also love that they have a pot of coffee outside for those who are waiting for a table during weekend brunch rush. Anticipate that you will definitely be waiting. If you can, go during a weekday morning instead. It's quiet, you won't wait and service is way better.

Repeat Visit

By Chris A |

We visit our grandchildren about twice a year and our traditional Sunday morning departing day breakfast is always at M. Henry. One of our favorite meals. We seem to get the same corner round table every time, as if they saved it for us. The kids love there cream covered cinnamon bun and we all enjoy the unique flavorful menu choices. Great times and memories in a great venue. Great service, good food, clean, pleasant atmosphere.

Good, Maybe overrated

By Rider2003 |

I may have been biased by the build-up from my friends about this place. They think it's a spot from heaven. I'm not sure, though. It's a charming place. Small, so it gets busy very quickly. The food was really good and the latin-inspired dishes add a twist to any brunch menu, but I'm not sure it was so much better than other brunch spots. If I'm in the area again, I think I would grab something from the bakery case and skip the wait. Maybe it's just that I'm an out of towner - who knows

Excellent breakfast

By HelenaGuerra |

We had breakfast in this place (they only have brunch at Sundays) and it was terrific! - Brioche French Toast with Berries and Vanilla ***** I think that it was the best French toast I ever had, it was filled with lots of fresh red fruit and a creamy sauce so yummy - Spinach, onion and chèvre omollete with potatoes ***** it was delicious. This place is beautiful, I loved every single detail. And the staff is super helpful and kind.

Treat Yo Self

By David O |

Rise and shine workout and breakfast at M Henry. This place is great. Love the atmosphere and the food was absolutely prefect. Grab the dandelion, leek, and shallot omelette with sausage.

Great breakfast menu, large portions

By gyw |

If you go, go hungry! The food was tasty as we shared family style and still had another meal to take home from leftovers. We had the waffles, pancakes, quiche, and omelet. All dishes were well prepared and tasty. A bit pricey but still a good value in my eyes. Service was fast and friendly. Typical neighborhood location where street parking can be a bear as this place get really busy for the breakfast/brunch crowd.

Breakfast!!

By Meg G |

We were looking for a new place for breakfast when we visit our daughter in Chicago. Stumbled across this little gem! Get there before 10 on weekends or you will wait. The brioche french toast with lemon curd and raspberry cordial with blueberries was fabulous! Vegetarian daughter had Latina omeletta with black beans, Johnny had Jorge's black bean cakes and huevos boracchos, husband had Killer Fried Egg Sandwich. We were all impressed with service, quality, ambience. This place had it all and we can't wait to go back!

Sunday morning - no wait!!!!! What?

By Scott M |

Must have been the three-day weekend, but we arrived at 900am and walked right in! Had the Latina Omeletta (black beans, plum tomatoes, sour cream, wisconsin sharp cheddar, green & sweet onions and cilantro topped w/chipotle sauce and served with sweet plantains & house potatoes), fantastic; and the tremendous french toast with almonds, poached pear and creme anglaise and chocolate. OMG! Service by Cezar was great, as was everyone else that came by multiple times to refill water and coffee and give extra plates. The BEST!

Outstanding Brunch Vegan Friendly

By jmr |

This legendary Chicago spot is located in the Andersonville. What a fabulous brunch for the plant based eater. Showed up around noon on Sunday to see a long line. However a table for two was available within about five minutes. Ordered coffee as we waited. My partner thought the soy latte was one of the best she ever had. The place has a great buzz. We both had veritable vegan epiphany. What a name. Delicious scrambled tofu with a variety of veggies with great spices. Choice of either tempeh strips or veggie sausages. Went with the veggie sausages which were great. A very satisfying serving. Won't leave hungry.

By CincyTrotter |

We get to Chicago a fair amount and we always try to get to M Henry for breakfast. We love this place. Always a fun, Latin influenced dish of some sort, creative French roasts and top notch pastries and egg dishes. The place is a decent size, so waiting for a table is usually not too bad.

Hip and great food!

By StJohn2007 |

Excellent food in the heart of Andersonville (take Berwyn) Great food! BUSY and LOUD. But the food was fantastic!!

Delicious food at good prices

By Rebecca W |

Tasty and friendly service at affordable prices. Neighborhood is safe and welcoming. Serves breakfast all day. Yum!

Sunday brunch

By AshleyB8 |

First off, get there early. There are no reservations and the waiting area is very limited. The atmosphere is quaint and beautifully done. I got the crab cake benedict. I am a huge eggs benedict fan, but this was a little too complicated for me. There was just too much going on. Our waitress was very nice, prompt, and attentive. Excellent service.

Worth the wait

By Pavithra M |

Loved the food- I got a very basic two-egg scramble with a side of bacon and the house potatoes. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned, crisp on the outside and fresh and soft on the inside...just the way I like them. My husband ordered the omlette with spinach, onion and chevre, which tasted so good! We also got the freshly squeezed orange juice, which was good, but a little on the tart side. Overall a tasty meal, but I wish I had let myself be tempted by the sweet breakfast items. Maybe next time...definitely next time!

Trying a bit too hard

By MT94114 |

The atmosphere and service were good. Service both times I went fine, but the place is set up a bit strangely as there's a big gap in the place. I went for breakfast both days. Day one I had blueberry bliss cakes which were tasty,filling- but just a lot going on the place. Day two was the cinnamon roll french toast. I tried my best to enjoy it, but there was just so much going on - on the plate- so many flavors, they cancelled each other out and I really wasn't tasting anything. The service though was very attentive and when there was an issue with the food coming up, my server did let me know. I'm glad I went and tried it and can understand why people stand along Clark Street, but when I got back to Chicago - there's other places for breakfast or brunch.

It's worth trying!

By FoodCriticNorwich_CT |

Selected by our son, MH offers some very unique breakfast dishes. Best of all they're tasty! I really enjoyed the Black bean cakes and huevos borrachos. Served with chorizo and two eggs over easy...really good. So check out their menu online. If you're looking for something other than the standard breakfast dishes, this should get you excited!

Best breakfast ever!!

By Snowbound-N-smiling |

You have to order their french toast! It's absolutely amazing!!! It's light & fluffy with a crisp yet tender crust. The vanilla creme between the layers is heavenly. Then they top it off with a tart lime curd and fresh berries. An order of applewood bacon on the side and a couple cups of their organic coffee and you have a breakfast fit for a king! Don't miss this place and yes it's worth the wait!!! I can't wait to go back!!!

Back Again - Still Great

By Chris A |

We visit our son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren twice per year and always schedule a Sunday morning breakfast here once during our stay. This year it was on Mother's Day. We arrived early, but still missed the first seating. That was OK. We waited and they seated us within 30 minutes. Another excellent breakfast and very pleasant meal with our family. The children enjoy the cinnamon buns with cream frosting. Great service. Clean. Delicious.

Great spot for brunch!

By mcnamart |

M Henry is a gem. We eat brunch there from time to time and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the peasant quiche. The kids love the bliss pancakes. Staff are great and the patrons are super friendly. I'd also recommend the pastries.

Fun spot for brunch

By Karen60660 |

Weekend (or weekday) brunch here is always interesting and delicious. Their pancakes can also be dressed down for kids who might prefer tried-and-true.

The best breakfast place!

By Tripfun |

This is my favorite place for breakfast ever!! Nothing else compares. Everything on their menu is so delicious. The best thing on the menu is their blackberry bliss pancakes with the mascarpone cheese and their granola on top. It is absolutely mouthwatering! I get the sauce on the side because it can get a little soggy but it is so darn good! You must try this place if you havent already. It blows all the other places out of the water. It is always busy but if you are not with a large group, the wait isnt too bad. My husband and I go frequently and the longest we have waited on a very busy day is about 20 minutes. It is usually less than that. I have gone with friends where we are a larger group and we have had to wait a while but its so worth it! Also the house potatoes are the best that Ive ever had, so much flavor.

Blow your Socks Off Bliss Cakes

By luv2travelgrrl |

Ok seriously - I had the asparagus, proscuitto, brie omelette with house potatoes, and it was fantastic. BUT it was blown away by the bliss cakes my husband (serendipitously) ordered. WOW. Just....WOW. I know I've said this in other reviews but really - change your life kinda breakfast. The marscapone and the fluffy hot cakes in fruit compote is melt-in-your-mouth delicious and not too sweet. Even the coffee here was aromatic and flavorful and just delicious. This was such a great find during our short trip to Chicago. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Order the bliss cakes and you will not be sorry!!! Great service, short wait on a Sat. morning (<20 minutes on New Year's Eve Day, I mean, c'mon!). Cute, funky, and stylish decor add to the vibe. Give this place a try and I'm sure you'll love it -- we did!!

Yummo

By Susan R |

One of my favorite restaurants ! I try to go at least once a month. I've had breakfast and lunch menu options there. Always delicious, never had anything I didn't enjoy. I always go during the week as I heard long wait on weekends. No wait during the week! Servers always friendly and helpful. The bakery items when you first walk in, look and smell so good!! I always find free parking on side streets. Parking and good food! A great find in Andersonville.

Best Breakfast Sandwich of My Life!

By AJ768 |

A long wait on a Sunday morning, but the fried egg sandwich with tomatoes, bacon, and other toppings was worth it. Creative menu choices that won't disappoint. Chocolate french toast, berry pancakes, lots of coffee selections. Everything at our table was phenomenal. I will be sure to visit again.

Great place for Breakfast and Brunch

By Surati |

We had a reservation on Father's day for brunch. We were able to get a table in the garden on a pleasant day. Very attentive server took our orders. I had Drunken eggs dish. Very tasty and interesting. I would certainly be back and recommend it highly.

Great food

By Yichuan D |

Food is very nice and carefully made. I like the Omelette they made. Also, waiting is not very long.

Worth the wait!

By Genni A P |

We ate a late breakfast at this restaurant. After a half hour wait (yes, with children) we were seated on their patio. We all ordered something different and enjoyed passing our plates around. The food was delicious! I loved the Latino omelet with black beans! The waiter, Manual, was very attentive and friendly. We would definitely return.

Nice eats

By Tracey E |

A very nice restaurant. Quick effective service. I had the cinnamon roll French toast very tasty had to much granola... my family had the French toast with lemon curd they said it was very flavorful.

We love this place, well worth the wait

By tedsterpamster |

We drove by M.Henry's by accident on our way looking for another restaurant for breakfast. It was a weekday morning, and it looked crowded, so we did a u-turn, found parking ( a bit of a challenge) and we are so glad we did. What a great place! We got a table right away inside, (although there is a cute outside patio on the rear of the restaurant). The first thing we noticed was how beautiful the food looked. We even took pictures. There were three of us so we decided to order three different plates. All so incredible, we just kept passing our plates around, so we could get a taste of everything. The service was great, and everyone seemed very upbeat. We returned a few days later on Sunday (by unanimous vote), and found quite a few people waiting outside. Parking was a bit more of a challenge this time. We got on a list and It took about an hour to get a table (this time outside), but was well worth the wait. We ordered three different plates and once again, passed them around. Yum! We are from Colorado (Chicago transplant) visiting our daughter in Evanston. If we lived nearby we would never eat at home. Can't wait to come back.

Hands down favorite breakfast spot in the city

By Schuyler P |

This is only restaurants that I take every friend or family member who comes to visit me in Chicago. M. Henry is homey and warm. The bakery looks fantastic - there are several cakes, tarts and pastries that I would love to try. The breakfast is so filling, I have never been able to bring myself to taste anything from the bakery case. The hot chocolate is fantastic--don't be put off by the price. It seems to be made with chocolate shavings instead of any kind of powder. I've almost never been able to finish a cup, even though it comes out as per usual before the meal, so I sometimes have them put it in a to-go cup. Sometimes they add a marshmallow or two - which look a lot like the ones I've made at home. I've had two dishes here. The first time I ever visited I chose the spinach & chevre omelette, which was great. I don't eat spinach a lot and wasn't expecting to really LOVE this dish, but I did like it a lot. Presentation was beautiful with fresh fruit to garnish, and the chevre was lovely and smooth. I've never had this cheese, and it was similar to warmed cream cheese in consistency. The omelette tasted different than I'm used to--a little tangier, for lack of a better term--but that wasn't really a bad thing. I would happily have it again. The potatoes were fantastic; I added a bit of salt, but with the spices included may have been perfectly seasoned for others. The potatoes are available as a side, which I've ordered on occasion since I don't order anything it the potatoes would come with now. That's because of the bliss cakes. Oh, my. I rarely if ever have fruit on pancakes, and certainly not mascarpone and oats. What can I say? It was heavenly; it was bliss. The fruit was perfect, and the mascarpone added a great flavor element. I couldn't help but be surprised how much I liked the oats added as well. It added a nice flavor to the dish as well as a perfect bit of added texture and crunch. I've never seen pancakes as thick as this, either. This dish was about as perfect as a breakfast item could be. In the years I've been visiting M. Henry, I've only once been able to bring myself to have something besides the bliss cakes. The decor of the restaurant is kind of rustic and homey. They have old windows and doors decorating the place and kind of acting as barriers between some of the tables. As in much of Andersonville, parking is often difficult. Much of it is either neighborhood parking--which probably requires a resident permit--or you'll need to pay the meter. They do have an outside dining area during the warmer months which is quiet and comfortable, so don't hesitate to dine al fresco if the option is offered to you.

Good food, good service ..

By John C |

You gotta love a breakfast place that never lets your coffee or tea cup get empty and always greets your a warm friendly smile - that is m.henry. My son and I visited for breakfast one morning and really enjoyed our visit. From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed and just knew that we were going to get great treatment. I ordered the 'latina omeletta' (black beans, plum tomatoes, sour cream, wisconsin sharp cheddar, green & sweet onions and cilantro topped w/chipotle sauce and served with sweet plantains & house potatoes) and my son the 'drunken eggs' (two homemade black bean cakes served w/masa tortillas topped w/chorizo or soy chorizo, eggs any style or scrambled tofu, topped with adobo sauce. served w/sliced avocado, queso fresco, & sour crème). Both tasted fantastic and were served inside ten minutes. Highly recommended !

Brunch heaven

By gilliebeans |

A perfect brunch experience. Superb food, excellent service. We ate twice, inside and outside and as a family tried much of the extensive menu.

Worth the wait if there's a line!

By Aileen H |

I live nearby and often skip waiting for a table for weekend brunch but when college friends came for a weekend Chicago visit, I knew this was the place to go. Luckily, at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday we didn't have to wait (though if we had want wanted a coveted patio table we would have had to!). All four of us had a hard time choosing a dish since it all sounded so good! My Latina Omletta was delicious (plantains!), and my friend's peach/raspberry bliss cakes were enjoyed by all of us - large portions. While some reviews say this place is pricey, given the neighborhood and the food I think it is well worth the $11-$13 per item pricing. Plus it is very cute and quaint, even if some tables feel crowded. Eat here and then walk the wonderful Andersonville neighborhood (south from here along Clark Street). One of Chicago's best neighborhoods!

Best Breakfast in the Midwest

By gherkins |

Every trip to Chicago we make a point of driving to M. Henry for breakfast -- and it never disappoints. They consistently make the best breakfast that I have ever had. Regardless of whether you like sweet breakfast (french toast, pancakes) or savory (eggs benedict, fried egg sandwich, traditional) the food here is just amazing. If you happen to go on the weekend, however, you have got to try the breakfast bread pudding (order as a breakfast appetizer, as we do). It is absolutely delicious. The restaurant is family friendly, so bring your kids if you have them. It is also BYOB, if you want to have some champagne in your orange juice. The only major caveat is that it is extremely busy. We go right at open (8:00am) and there isn't a wait, but by 9:00am, you will have to wait to get a table.

Not just for Vegetarians

By Jonathan D |

This is a great place for eaters of all persuasions, vegetarian or not, sweet tooth or salt craving, simple goodness or complex deliciousness. It is a mixture of great baked goods and really attended to meals. The French Toast will make you take a moment and the sandwiches are really satisfying!

Amazing!

By MheartsTrips |

I went there twice during my month in Chicago (should've gone more) with friends who had been raving about the place since the day I arrived in the city. I went for Sunday brunch both times and everything I tasted there (my friends and I share food ;)) was equally amazing. It is definitely worth the wait and I am recommending the place to anyone visiting Chicago, if only for the weekend (especially on Sunday!). I also recommend eating on the patio if you can in summer, 'cause that just makes the whole M Henry experience even better...

Nice place for breakfast

By Patty1123 |

We had a nice breakfast at M Henry on a Saturday morning and only had to wait about 10 minutes. The waiter was polite, friendly and attentive. I had the two eggs with cheddar cheese and chives, whole grain toast and seasoned potatoes. The eggs were cooked just the way I like them. My husband ordered the turkey Ruben and said it was good. My son ordered Jorge's black bean cakes and huevos borrachos and said the entire meal was delicious. Since we arrived late morning, all the scones were already gone. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for breakfast and the lunch menu looked good, too.

Brunch

By Magsgram |

Great! Very tasty and good service. We were trying to find somewhere open to 3pm for brunch. Pancakes were light and fluffy!

Always tip top!

By ChicagoPinky |

We love eating at M Henry! Their food is so fresh, and there are wonderful menu items with something for everyone.

Latin inspired lunch, brunch, and breakfast

By Dave W |

Andersonville is my favorite walking neighborhood, and M Henri is the place to go, as long as you're there before 2:30. Wife and I had the Latina Omletta which included black beans, peppers cheddar and a host of other ingredients ive already forgotten. Absolutely delicious! We also split a half order of the bliss cakes which the wife said "were to die for ". The only downside is that the food is so good, you'll probably have a long wait for weekend brunch. Its definitely worth the wait.

Good Food and Friendly Service But WAY TOO LOUD

By Lovingitall |

My husband and I ate here on a Saturday about 1:00. They were really busy and we waited about 20 minutes for a seat. The menu has both breakfast and lunch options; my husband chose breakfast and I lunch. The food was interesting and tasty. However, the noise level was deafening! It was impossible to maintain a conversation, and we felt like we were enduring rather than enjoying our meal. We paid as soon as we were finished just to remove ourselves from the noise. We will not return.

Great Breakfast/Linchnspot

By RJWhiteSoxfan |

We joined friends for brunch and this was the perfect spot. Many wonderful choices for both breakfast and lunch. I had fluffy pancakes with bacon and really enjoyed the dish. The service was excellent we will be back to enjoy more of their food options

Another great breakfast venue heard from

By Taylor B |

Partners Michael Moorman and Jorge Aviles have chosen the slogan "Chow For Now" to describe their unique breakfast/brunch/lunch restaurant, M. Henry, located at 5707 North Clark Street in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. They have created a New American cuisine or American comfort food with a few new twists. Some of the most popular dishes are blueberry pancakes with maple syrup, a breakfast sandwich of fried egg, gorgonzola, applewood smoked bacon and fresh thyme, cinnamon roll French toast and a turkey sandwich with walnut pesto and cranberry sauce. Plan for breakfast from Tuesday through Saturday or brunch on Saturday and Sunday. You'll be glad you did. It's enough to read the items on the menu and imagine what they taste like. How about the Dulce Banana Rumba, thick-cut brioche French toast with warm bananas, rum, golden raisins and pecans? Or lemon-raspberry brioche French toast? Or pancakes with blackberry compote and vanilla mascarpone and topped with a brown sugar and oat crust? Brunch offers smoked salmon and mango and blueberry cinnamon roll French toast and early rhubarb and raspberry flapjacks and out-of-this-world breakfast bread pudding with creamy vanilla and egg custard and heavenly four berry hotcakes, two fluffy blueberry hotcakes layered with raspberry-strawberry vanilla creme, fresh blackberry coulis and topped with crunchy granola crust. And you wanted to order bacon and eggs?

Great brunch food whether you're counting calories or not

By smdyl |

M Henry is great for breakfast, brunch or lunch. If you want something light, their savory quiches and salads are wonderful. If you want to go all out, there are tremendous pancakes. The atmosphere is laid back, the service is wonderful. It's an excellent neighborhood spot. Perfect if you are spending a few hours at the vintage furniture stores on Clark St. in this neighborhood. There is a small take out spot in front with pastries and quiche.

Best breakfast!

By Scott M |

We had the Blackberry Bliss hotcakes (very tasty), the Enrique's morning plate (tortillas with scrambled eggs, chorizo, avocado, chili sauce rice and plantains), and the poblano pepper stuffed with shrimp and scrambled eggs, both very satisfying and unique. I was still tempted to get the bread pudding, but was outvoted. Coffee and service was great, and the wait was very short, even on a Sunday at 1130am.

Great for brunch

By Julie M |

Having a M Henry in my neighborhood was wonderful. Great brunch or breakfast. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. I always go to M Henry with the intention of getting the absolutely divine egg sandwich, but almost always get distracted by the bliss cakes, or the french toast, or the candied bacon. (Candied bacon!) I have never had a bad experience at M Henry. It is rather out of the way for many people, but if you're in the area (or just in search of great breakfast) it's definitely worth the trip!

Wonderful Luncheon Experience

By KYCAT13 |

Was shopping with my Wife in the Andersonville area and just happened upon M. Henry. We were not disappointed. This is a great spot for lunch and I would think for breakfast as well. I had the soup of the day and the sauteed spinach, both were exploding with flavor. I will certainly return as we explore the neighborhood. You should try this as well.

The best restaurant in the history of the world

By Colby K |

This is the best restaurant in the history of the world. Food. Service. Atmosphere. Location. History. Everything. Order anything and it'll be amazing. Despite it always being packed my wife and I always get in very quickly and everything we order is reasonably priced, not to mention mind-blowing. I wish I could eat here everyday. I recommend this place to meat lovers, vegans, vegetarians and anyone in between. Do you like savory? Sweet? Spicy? Experimental? Rich? Healthy? Any kind of edible food? Then go to M. Henry.

Another great diner in Chicago

By kjm445 |

Delicious and healthy lunch here at m. henry! A nice-sized menu with daily specials in a cozy restaurant. We truly enjoyed every single bite of what we ordered! Unfortunately service was a bit slow but the food was worth the wait. They get very busy quickly, which is a great sign! Would love to go back and try more items.

I love this place. The food is amazing and the decor is kitschy with the hanging windows. It is a little small, so I don't recommend for large groups. There is almost always a line, but I never mind waiting.

Delightful breakfast!

By Sarah |

Fannie's killer fried egg sandwich was amazing! I modified with no problem since I'm a vegetarian. Seriously, it was one of the best breakfasts I have EVER had. We even met M. Henry (who happens to have the same name and my husband)! Exceptional food and great service. My experience here was nothing short of wonderful.

Great food, great service, excellent setting

By Rick H |

m. henry is located on the 5700 block of North Clark Street in the Andersonville area of Chicago. Easy access from the Berwyn or Bryn Mawr stations on the red line, or the #22 bus. This is an interesting little restaurant/bakery combination that has an incredibly tasty assortment of breakfast items that are cooked quickly and served professionally. Or you can just pop in for some fresh baked pasteries and a coffee or barista drink. Come hungry, otherwise there's a good chance you leave feeling uncomfortably stuffed. I'd recommend a week-day visit (closed Mondays) to avoid the line that forms outside the place on weekends.

Fun atmosphere and delicious food!

By MrsGuzman1 |

First time at M Henry and it will not be my last. We arrived early and was seated right away. Arriving early is key. The hostess is very friendly. We ordered The Chilaquiles and Tinga platter, might be off their brunch menu and the Simple French Toast with berries and Vanilla creme. Both were very delicous and beautiful too look at. The Chilaquiles was not too spicy and the tinga was not overwhelmed by the chipotle. The Vanilla Creme in the french toast is what made my day! It's such a beautiful colorful combination to look at, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Try the latte, we had the caramel soy latte, the milk foam is so creamy and doesn't disappear right away into your drink. Hopefully you are lucky to get seated by the window to get the lighting in and get the fresh scents of the large floral arrangement. They have cute pastries to go, displayed at the front of the restaurant, and all the cake slices and cupcakes look so rich and sweet. Will be coming back to try other things in the menu.

Mmmm Good at M. Henry

By sweetmnmama |

We wanted to go here because it was on a top ten list for breakfast and the food was amazing as well as the service. We ordered the heavenly berry pancakes with vanilla creme anglaise and they were delicious, tender, and full of berries. They even brought extra creme without asking. Another person in the party ordered an omelet and the other person had french toast and everyone was pleased with their orders. We left with a to go blueberry muffin which was divine! Service and food will bring you back for more.

YUM!!

By kc72_10 |

Great place for a Sunday brunch. I have a family of picky eaters and we all practically licked our plates clean! The place was very crowded and loud but didn't bother us as we had three children with us who just joined in the mayhem. :) Great service and friendly urban atmosphere. If we ever get back to Chicago this will definitely be on our list to visit again.

Lunch with friends

By Culture Vulture 60657 |

Four ladies sat down to an early lunch on a weekday. One was an M.Henry regular which may have had something to do with the great attention we got from the staff. Every single one of us had a special request or tweak to the item she ordered (dressing on the side; a side salad instead of the potatoes that normally come with the dish, iced tea without ice. That sort of thing). The waitress handled all these requests and the 4 separate checks with aplomb. The food was very good. My lunch special of eggs Benedict had good quality slices of ham beneath the eggs and a nice lemon-y Hollandaise sauce. The salad I asked for instead of the potatoes that normally come with the dish was quite big and very good as well. My only criticism is that it would have been perfect if they had toasted the English muffin the ham and eggs sat on. We had a cosy little space in the room with the pastry counter behind a glass wall partition. It felt very safe as we had it to ourselves with no other nearby tables occupied.

The Food is Okay

By SeasonedFoodie |

My niece is back in town, so we went here for breakfast during the week. We waited in the front area and when no one came out, we went back to the seating area and asked to be seated. I'd been here once before with a friend, but couldn't remember why I hadn't been back. But after eating there Iast week, I now remember why. I had eggs and bacon. The eggs were good, but when I asked for the bacon to be crispy, it came back burnt and the toast was really hard. My niece had a tofu scramble and some type of veggie sausage. So, they seem to have decent vegan options, which I worry about when she and I go out to eat. With sooo many great restaurants in Andersonville, and a bunch of other neighborhoods in Chicago, I'd say that the food here is just okay.

Nice breakfast in Andersonville

By ColoAvsPuckhead |

Went with family who recently moved to Edgewater while staying nearby. Street parking - always a little bit of uncertainty. Greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner and seated promptly. Menu for breakfast was had good diversity of choices. We had the dandelion, scallion, and leek omelette as well as the cinnamon bun French toast. Served quicker than expected. Server was appropriately attentive (not too much, not too little. Choices were good and would order either again. Prices were reasonable. Would be on the list for a return visit when visiting again.

Fantastic Brunch

By Woap |

Busy, happening place, nice bright décor. Excellent and efficient service. Food was outstanding with the lemon crab & shrimp cake benedict flavours melding perfectly and the truffled brioche baked egg rich and flavourful. Amazingly rich breakfast pudding with the warm peaches and blackberries sauce - sinfully tasty.

Adequate Food and Snippy "Service"

By Dab |

We have paid to eat at M. Henry numerous times and the food is usually good. Not great, good. It is a bit expensive but a reliable place to take visitors to Chicago. The last visit, we were in a hurry, So we asked for the check and I went to the cashier to pay it. I was informed in arrogant tones by the snippy male cashier that I was to "sit down and wait for my server to pay the bill." While I appreciate that everyone has a bad day, maybe this young man could ponder that his paycheck comes from troublesome paying customers like me. We'll be bringing our guests to other establishments in the future.

yum yum yum

By sahmed76 |

have been here numerous times and they have never failed me! amazing brunch, fresh food, big portions and good coffee. some places can be great one day and "m-eh" the next....not this place. they are always stellar and deliver a wholesome, savory feast that pleases the palate and senses! a must try restaraunt if you come to chicago and love breakfast!

Fresh ingredients and flavorful breakfast

By katklee28 |

A definitely place to stop for brunch. They use extremely fresh ingredients and I have not been disappointed yet. Try the blackberry bliss cakes - fluffy hotcakes layered w/warm blackberries and vanilla mascarpone cream, & topped w/a brown sugar & oat crust. And mochas! Excellent

excellente

By phantom12345 |

my niece lives in Chicago thus she was in charge of choosing where we ate. This was an excellent choice. we met at 10 am on a Saturday and were surprised there was no wait to sit inside!! There were 3 of us and we shared the French toast, the latina omelet and the quiche. I was tempted to take pictures of the beautiful presentation, but resisted. All 3 dishes were excellent, the portions substantial, the service professional and the value good.

Terrible service

By k d |

After reading many great reviews, we visited for lunch on a weekday and were very disappointed by the service. We waited 40 minutes for our meal after ordering, during which time the waiter deliberately avoided our table and even avoided eye contact! Once our food arrived he came twice in 10 minutes to check on us... Too little too late. The food was good enough when it arrived, but not so exquisite that it warranted the wait. There are so many great brunch places in Chicago... I'd definitely recommend finding somewhere else to eat.

unique menu, good service but they made some mistakes

By yeftos |

the killer fried sandwich was excellent but the lemon crab-shrimp benedict wasn't up to snuff. The salad had no lime dressing on it and the crab/shrimp cakes were not cooked at all... great coffee and desserts expect to wait 1 hour for a table during prime time

Among my favorite breakfast spots

By Walking16 |

M. Henry serves some of the best breakfasts in the city and that's saying a lot. I love the Latino omelet while my husband tends to vary his selections. Among his favorite is the Sunday Brunch shrimp and crab bennie. Coffee comes fast and strong. The restaurant fills up fast on a weekend so go early. When it is full, it can be a bit noisy - but happy noise.

Truly the best!

By JennyWu |

Great food and great service! It woud need a bit patience though. Would definitely visit again next time to Chicago.

Love this place and always look forward to the next visit!

By ChgGirl |

Breakfast and lunch only-- everything is super fresh and delicious!! Not the usual breakfast stuff. It is French style with a walk up/ take away bakery area as well. The squash soup is divine in the fall. Weekend morning are packed so get there early or go on a weekday.

Very good food

By dgcrawf |

We went for brunch with a large group. While clearly busy, the service was prompt and efficient. Our food arrived surprisingly quickly and everyone got exactly what they ordered even though it was a large group. The menu is quite varied and contains a number of unique and healthy options. Prices are typical for the area. Well worth going back.

Great breakfast and lunch spot!

By TrumpHotel |

I love M Henry! The decor and service are unique and fun. The food is wonderful.

Decent - nothing to rave about

By ChicagoTravelerV |

Let me start positive, the bread pudding was good... the sandwich was decent, the service was OK, the sitting area has these funny dividers between tables, leaves you with a feeling of a cramp space, when its not that small. The airconditioning SUCKS, really really bad. Most people seem to be enjoying their food and their time there. Had heard a lot about this place, its an OK place. Price decent. they dont take reservations and wait times are high, so be prepared to wait.

long wait for brunch, but generally worth it.

By bowwowwow |

M Henry is another of the many upbeat slightly upmarket breakfast places but better. The menu is better, the preparation is better, and they serve breakfast everyday, not just weekends. Weekends always have a long wait. Occasionally you may receive a table that is too small or tucked away unpleasantly, but in general it is a sunny and delicious experience.

No blackberry bliss

By Anne_Chicago_16 |

Yeah went here as a last resort. Won't be back soon. Too many other good BkFast places to go. My eggs and my potatoes arrived cold and the sweet we got for the table was not worth it at all. Really disappointing. Not the first time I have been disappointed. thought I would give it one more chance. Nope not again

Top in Sunday Brunch

By Jean C |

M. Henry is our go to breakfast spot when we have out of town company; or if it is raining and we drive to brunch. The menu is full of great dishes whether you are vegetarian or meat eater. Lots of unique fruits today...passion fruit, fig, mango, and berries among others. I had the leek quiche; all 5 of us had different meals and all was great. Usually a wait, but they handle the crowd very efficiently!

A favorite when we come to Chicago

By Cville J |

We've been to M. Henry at least a half dozen times. The restaurant staff (cooks, wait staff, greeters, etc.) do a consistently excellent job. The food is varied and tops. There are always some specials and it's great to be there when a favorite special is back on the menu. However, the standards are also good. This past visit, I had the brioche French Toast.....filling and delicious. The coffee is also very good and the servers do a great job keeping the coffee warm and the customers happy. Strongly recommend a visit. Get there early (before 9 am) on weekends. It is a very popular spot....for good reason.

Great lunch

By susie g |

During some sightseeing my husband and I ventured into M. Henry for some lunch. Little did we know we chose the perfect place. The jerk chicken sandwich my husband ordered was so big he had to use his knife and fork to eat it . I ordered the turkey burger which was the best I've ever eaten. It was big, juicy and very tasty. Very quaint atmosphere and great service. Would definitely recommend it for breakfast or lunch for anyone.

Cute Place, Mixed Feelings about the Food

By KZ |

We were there around 9 on a Sunday morning. I ordered the roasted veggie and goat cheese quiche, which was okay, but definitely not as good as quiche I've had elsewhere. It had a very smokey flavor, of which I am not a fan. The side salad was just okay...very little dressing, but strong tasting. My husband had the latina omeletta, which he liked (though he didn't really like the black beans, he liked everything else). He ordered a side of bacon, which was good (not at all fatty, cooked perfectly). The service was quick and they were very good about refilling water and coffee.

I like this place

By svengali82 |

We arrived for lunch on a very cold but sunny Saturday just after noon. The wait time was around 40 minutes for a party of two in a cramped standing-room-only space. That's really my only complaint and it's minimal. My dining partner had the "blackberry bliss pancakes" for $9.25. It was a little rich for her taste, but was well presented. I opted for the "jerked chicken empanadas" with a cup of "coconut curry soup" for $7.95. Both were very tasty and well seasoned. For desert I had the "apple Chopin pastry" and it was especially good. My impression is that they excel in baked goods. I was very happy with the service, price and food quality. I highly recommend M. Henry.

A hearty breakfast in 70 minutes

By Taylor B |

M. Henry is open for business with few restrictions. No reservations to come early to avoid the rush. And there is a limit of 70 minutes to consume your bounty. Which is plenty of time if you don't talk too much, even with a second helping. Located at 5707 North Clark Street in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood, M. Henry is a cozy breakfast, brunch and lunch venue that offers plenty of comfort food with a twist and bakery carryout. Weather permitting, enjoy the garden patio. Most of all, enjoy the breakfast. We had heard good things about M. Henry's breakfast and they are all true. It's a great way to start a day of shopping or sight-seeing. It's open from 8 to 2:30 Monday through Friday and from 8 to 3 on Saturday and Sunday. My wife chose the cinnamon French toast, made with one house-baked brioche cinnamon roll layered with warm fruit and vanilla neufchatel creme and topped with granola crust. She also indulged in a bowl of fresh fruit and a toasted English muffin. I couldn't resist the highly recommended Fannie's Killer fried egg sandwich, a toasted sour boule layered with two over-medium eggs, applewood bacon, sliced plum tomatoes, gorgonzola and fresh thyme and served with house potatoes with turkey sausage patties. M. Henry checks all the boxes...good food, attentive service, friendly atmosphere. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Great breakfast

By TrWorldTraveler |

M. Henry is one of our favorite in Chicago with an amazing breakfast or brunch menu. Everything taste very fresh. The service is very friendly. Make sure to drive up to Andersonville to discover this place in you are in Chicago. I loved their Fannie's killer fried egg sandwich, eggs Benedict, French toast and pancakes with seasonal berries. Highly recommended !

Amazing HEALTHY Kid menu-adult too

Really good food, comfort food done the healthy way with lots of attention to flavor. Great atmosphere and NOW open for dinner! Yummm!!!!!

Best pancakes in Chicago

By Bruce H |

We have been here many times. In general, I am not a pancake lover. Bliss cakes today were amazing. Fresh peaches, cranberries and a little Granny Smith apple on the side. No need for syrup, they were light and delicious.

Worth the Wait...Best Pancakes, Quiche, Salads

By Terryl D |

There is a wait, but it is well worth it. It is the best breakfast place ever. We love MHenry and just introduced it to some friends. They thought it was worth the long drive from the southern suburbs. Light airy pancakes that melt in your mouth with wonderful accents like the Bliss Cakes. There are NO other pancakes like these. They are the best we've ever eaten. Portions are so big it is possible to share unless you have an enormous appetite. Once you eat these, you won't want the usual pancake fare. Best hot chocolate I've had in a long time.

Great Place for Brunch

By Khru_Wan |

Classic American Sunday brunch: potatoes nod eggs pancakes French toast. What more could you ask for.

Good Brunch

By nguyens |

We went LATE 3pm on Sunday no crowd and window seat. Husband had comfort plate, I had the eggs with candied bacon and my daughter had eggs with chicken sausage. We had a side of Bread Pudding. With coffee and a chai latte it was under $50 with tip. Food was different, atmosphere is nice, service was good. Bread pudding was covered in a berry compote and when you really dug down it was GOOD!!! Chicken sausage was good and usually I hate the not pork sausage but this was good I ate 2 pieces.Candied bacon was ok but not great. Eggs with cheese and chives and potatoes were tasty. It is a great neighborhood place and it is our ld neighborhood so we love the vibe there. Family friendly and not overpriced....Would I say this is the best breakfast EVER no but this is very good and worth a trip.

PERFECTION

By Roberta B |

The service is excellent. Each dish has an artistic flair, and a Heavenly taste to match. The quiche is the best I've ever had. It comes with a salad that is extraordinary. I can't wait to go back. Nice atmosphere, but a little noisy. Everyone was obviously loving it. Priced fairly with great quality. A lovely dining experience.

Don't trust their waiting time estimates!!!!

By Patrick S |

This is clearly a hot-spot in Andersonville n-hood, especially on a Sunday morning. Our party of four was told the wait would be 45 minutes, which was pretty reasonable. However, after 45+ minutes, we checked in with the host only to be told it would be at least another 30 minutes....... So, we left and headed to 'A Taste of Heaven' down the street for a 5 minute wait and a great breakfast.

Great breakfast !

By shardog |

A friend and I shared the black bean and chorizo corn cakes and the dulce french toast. Both were delicious, good cappucino. Food arrived pretty quickly even tho it was packed (11 am on a Saturday) server was fine but nothing special. Location is a bit out of the ways but for good food, it's worth the trip.

Wonderful breakfast!

By Boyer’s |

M. Henry was amazing! We had the berry bliss cakes, cinnamon roll French toast and the fried egg sandwich. Everything was so good. Glad we stumbled upon this place.

Very tastey

By Patrick J |

This is a neighborhood with high expectations, food wise. Their food is very good, Their bakery is top notch and does have good gluten free food. Vegetable dishes are particularly good.

Great breakfast

By Todd Shissler |

Love this place. Good food and service. Try the Latina Omelletta. Fresh baked bread. Yum.

Absolutely Divine

By Tina Las Vegas |

A GF and I zipped up for a few days for some exploring and work. She found out about this place and I assure you, you don't want to miss it! I had the bacon wrapped baked eggs with polenta and mixed field greens. It makes my mouth water just thinking about going back and enjoying more. Louis was our server and I will be sure to ask for him each time I go. Thank you for making us feel at home and not like a stranger. Great job! Divine. It's all I can say. Do not miss the chance to dine here!

Get there early on weekend

By lpmenache |

Went with friends for Sunday breakfast/brunch. Got there early (9)and there was no line but by 10 there was a long wait. The greater at the door was very personable. Wait staff was also nice. Breakfast foods were great. The blueberry bliss hot cakes my friend had were lovely as we're my apple bliss pancakes. Maple syrup not needed. My wife split an omelet with all the trappings and it was very good also. We were able to sit and talk for a little while after eating and we're not rushed out.

Great Brunch!

By KileysGrama |

I have been here on the weekend and during the week and the food is great at either time. Really great coffee and their Killer Fried Egg Sandwich is so good. It is toasted sour boule layered w/ two over-medium eggs, applewood bacon, sliced plum tomatoes, gorgonzola, & fresh thyme.

Breakfast or brunch in this gem

By Ruth S |

M Henry is in Andersonville, a wonderful section of Chicago. The food is well-prepared, with veggie options and fresh produce. Great pastries as well. After eating thee, stroll Clark Street and stop in at one of the many shops south of there.

Awesome spot for Sunday Brunch

By PlatterTalk |

I've been here twice now for Sunday brunch and couldn't have been more pleased. The lively environment, the clattering of the kitchenware, and the sites and aromas of the culinary creations make this place a great dining experience. I look forward to trying some of their non brunch/breakfast items!

Great place, delicious food 😋

By trvlbufChicago |

My husband and I visited with a friend. It was our first time and were NOT disappointed. Each of us ordered a sandwich with Asian slaw. They were all beautifully presented, large and delicious. Caprese and chicken w roasted veggies. It is BYOB so we brought our own bottle of mango bellini. Nice environment and adequate service. We definitely plan to go back in the near future.

18th birthday brunch with my daughter

By Idea |

Looking for a place for pancakes and found fun Andersonville's M. Henry. Perfect choice for brunch. Blackberry bliss cakes to die for . . . fluffy hotcakes layered w/warm blackberries & vanilla mascarpone cream, & topped w/a brown sugar & oat crust Veggie dagwood stacked sandwich . . . wisconsin sharp cheddar, lorraine swiss, avocado, leaf lettuce, plum tomato, tempeh, red onion, walnut pesto, sweet pea sprouts, pickles, & dijon mustard, on multi-grain. On the way out, as a special birthday treat, the hostess asked my daughter to choose from the bakery. Frosted lemon drop cookies in hand we enjoyed walking down Clark Street afterwards.

Love, love, love

By Rhiconnect |

This place has the best breakfast in all of Chicago. I know that is a bold statement but it's true. I recommend getting the banana muffin and the pancakes. Worth all the carbs!! Try to go during the week as weekends are almost impossible.

Nice atmosphere, good blisscakes and bread pudding but can be a bit too sweet

By zygomycota |

During our day trip to Chicago, my friends and I went to M Henry for breakfast. We arrived at 8AM and immediately found street parking. When we entered the establishment, there was no line yet! The staff were still preparing to open, so we did wait for around five minutes to get a table. The bakery/cafe was nicely and simply decorated with paintings and flowers, reminding me of the decor in Madison's L'Etoile before it moved to its current location on the first floor of a glassy building. The cafe and hot chocolate my friends ordered looked amazing. One of my friend ordered the traditional breakfast: with bacon, toast, and eggs. He loved the dish. My other friend and I ordered blisscakes. We liked it, but both of us agree that it was too sweet/sugary for us. The three of us split the small order of bread pudding, which turned out to be a LARGE serving. The pudding was moist and delicious, but I feel that it is a bit too sweet for me. Overall, my friends enjoyed breakfast at this establishment. Remember to get to M Henry early or else lines would start forming at around 9AM!

Cinnamon roll french toast seen on Food Network

By travelgal143 |

My daughter saw the cinnamon roll French toast on Food Network and just had to have it. Others at the table ordered pancakes and I ordered (gluten free) an omlet with house potatoes. Everything was OK except the potatoes were very spicy, just nothing was amazing enough to warrant going this far north of everything else we wanted to do while in Chicago.

Greatest Brunch ever

By JesperStig |

We have been in to M. Henrys 3 times over the last 5 years. Every time we had a wonderful brunch, wonderful service, and wonderful atmosphere. Don't miss if you are in Chicago.

Delicious food!

By dgcrawf |

The food at M. Henry is delicious. I had the mango cranberry cinnamon roll french toast - a surprising combination of several of my favorites. The service was excellent even though the restaurant was full. We waited about 15 minutes to get a table but once we were seated our food arrived quickly. M. Henry is definitely worth trying.

Best brunch in Chicago!

By rotcdaddy |

Everything here is so fresh and wonderful. All breads & baked goods are made in house. The daily soups are all super healthy & very flavorful. The service & prices just can't be beat. Sometimes though, it can get a little bit loud and hard to hear. They are only open for breakfast & lunch @ this location, but have a sister restaurant called M. Henrietta that is close by and is open for dinner. I highly recommend this place to everyone I know!

Still the best breakfast/brunch in chicago

By thewino |

Omelettes are wonderful combinations and contrasts served with visual appeal. Also perfectly cooked and served. Pancakes can't be beat. Service is perfect and ambiance is fine. I would argue that this is the best restaurant of its kind in all the land.

Fun place with good food

By debbieand13 |

Good location near Edgewater and Andersonville. Food was delicious, cute place! Would definitely recommend and return here.

Great breakfast on a snowy morning

By Kelly G |

My son and I walked here from the airbnb we were staying at. We had breakfast. The service was wonderful. As you are seated, you walk past the bakery counter and the food looked delicious. We both had enjoyable breakfasts: I had an egg sandwich on fresh sourdough toast and my son had eggs on black bean cakes. Tasty!

fabulous food, friendly service

By amyintax |

every dish is delicious. brunch is worth the wait. take some some granola, it's fabulous. great atmosphere.

Unbelievably worth it

By HoneyBadger88 |

Just stopped by M. Henry with my wife on a Saturday (7/9/11). By the time we got there around noon, there was just a 5 minute wait. After hearing all the rave reviews foe the blisscakes, I told her she just had to try them. I ordered scrambled eggs and potatoes. While I thought my food was delicious and a much larger portion size than expected, the blackberry blisscakes was indeed one of the best meals either of us have ever tasted. And I don't even like blackberries. I would say they're even better than advertised. It was honestly the best breakfast I've ever had in the city, it seemed almost underpriced, and it's in a wonderful neighborhood. Go now

Varied fayre

By jemfromwales |

It is a good restaurant but if you want plain food, this place doesnt do that. Everything has herbs or spices or unusal combinations. I had an omelette with dandelions, shallots, leeks and fontinella cheese. Nice but possibly overkill on the onion/plant element. They have good coffee and their bakery makes great pastries. Worth coming here but remember, it is a couple of steps above the usual breakfast place

GREAT food but don't plan on a conversation

By Genevieve K |

Had breakfast here which was delicious and the selections in the bakery case looked delicious as well. BUT (there's always a but isn't there!) it was SO LOUD that it was difficult to hear the person who was sitting right across from me - which means everyone speaks louder and that just increases the sound decibels. There are two smaller areas when you first come in and if I come back, I'll wait until there is seating in that area. And if it's a nice day, stroll over to Gethesemane Garden Center to feast your eyes and nose.

Solid creative fresh breakfast in andersonville

By citykir |

Like any brunch place this one is full up load and crowded by 1030 am. The menu is creative and reasonably pricEd. I had the Polenta bacon egg bake served with salad and it could not have been fresher or better prepared. Service was attentive if a bit overWhelmed. Clean bright and friendly. I would definitely come here again. Also the food was light on oil and healthy.

Fabulous brunch place

By James H |

If you get here late (after 11am) you can expect a long line here full of local, and they know something! The brunch here are terrific with a selection of egg, salad, pancake dishes. I have been here many times and everytime I enjoy a terrific experience. Would return for sure, but I must make sure I don't get up late!

Delicious!

By Mary5965 |

My husband and I were staying in nearby Edgewater and walked to M. Henry since it wasn’t far away and the menu looked good. There was about a 20 minute wait for a table when we got there but it was a beautiful day so we window shopped while waiting. The restaurant itself it decorated with all sorts of repurposed items and was homey and welcoming. The staff was attentive and we didn’t have to wait long once we were seated for drinks. I had really good coffee and my husband said his iced tea was some of the best he’s had. Then came breakfast - wow! My husband had a tasty breakfast sandwich and some seriously delicious potatoes. I decided on one of the summer brunch specials, raspberry and rhubarb French toast. So, so, delicious and it wasn’t overly sweet which made it even better. Highly recommend this dish and this restaurant!

Menu had a good range. Food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful. They were polite towards each other too, which always indicates to me that they have a good working environment.

Delicious excellent breakfast

By Mama2010 |

Their breakfast is yummy, we were on the way to the airport and requested speedy service which they did as best they can. The pancake is nice. The pastry is also excellent.

Fun location and ok brunch/lunch

By RunwiththisMama |

Got lucky with street parking and no wait for a Saturday late lunch before closing. Generous portions and decent service. Chilaquiles were tasty but a bit heavy on tortillas. Cute setup, busy but didn't feel suffocatingly crowded.

Riding on Rep from Yesteryear

By jean l |

I really wanted to enjoy my breakfast, but didn't. I fear M Henry is riding on a reputation built in the past, but undeserved based on recent quality. I'd ordered MHenry's housemade sausage, plain french toast, and coffee. Though I'd arrived after 9:00 am, the sausage wouldn't be ready for another 45 minutes reported my server, so I needed to change my order. The french toast was just plain awful. Completely dry and flavorless, no creamy/eggie interior, no crispy exterior. The dish arrived and looked like three dry pieces of bread stacked up, and that's exactly what it was. Huge disappointment. Yes, my server did take the dish off my bill, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. In search of a new breakfast place in Chicago...

Creative brunch place

By cavwalker |

We ate here for Saturday brunch, waiting about 20 minutes for a table. Loved the creative menu of brunch items. Everyone ate a different menu item and everyone cleaned their plate. That is a good sign! Hope to go back.

Creative and healthy

By Alice C |

m henry is several steps above the usual breakfast/lunch place. The menu is creative and leans toward being healthier than most casual restaurants. Breakfast is an excellent time to be at m henry, especially brunch on Sunday morning. They are famous for the Blackberry Bliss Pancakes: hotcakes layered with warm blackberries, vanilla marscapone and topped with granola and brown sugar. The Sunday brunch variation: different, in season, fruit (mango, cherries, etc). If you have a real sweet tooth get your own or get an order for the table and share. There is also excellent quiche and even a really delicious vegan plate. For lunch: no french fries or burgers on the menu but lots of good sandwich choices and sides that include oriental slaw, fruit, or, if you need chips..blue corn chips. There are several salad selections, Asian bowls with various choices of filling and soup or chilli. The patio, opens at 9, is one of the nicest). You won't be sorry you stopped in. (m. henrietta, sister to m henry, is about a mile away and has an almost identical menu).

Comfort Food in Andersenville

By Fontek |

I came here for a business lunch with two colleagues. M. Henry is a friendly neighborhood place specializing in fresh comfort-style foods. I had the neo-classical grilled cheese (available with a choice of cheeses and fillings). My choice of rye, cheddar, caramelized leeks, and bacon was excellent. My colleagues also enjoyed their choices of sandwich and salads. The place is reputed to be an excellent breakfast/brunch site, but we were only there for lunch. I do recommend them.

What a nice place!!

We went for breakfast and it was amazing. The eggs Benedict were fantastic, the quiche was nicely done. Our friends had the walnut ? Pancakes and a traditional eggs, bacon and hash browns. It all was delious. The service was quite good and the atmosphere was nice. They also have an amazing bakery, however, we did not partake. It certainly is on our return list!

A Memorable Brunch

By Paddy L |

My daughter and I met for brunch at M. Henry recently on a Saturday morning and found the place to be packed. That generally, is a good sign right off the bat. We were met at the door by a very pleasant staff and our server was equally as pleasant, I might add. We always enjoy sharing plates when we get together so we settled on getting something sweet and something with more protein. Wow! Both dishes were really delicious and the portions were perfect. Our server brought us extra plates so we could easily share our meals, and refilled my coffee several times. I would highly recommend you give M. Henry a try next time you are looking for a great breakfast and very reasonable prices.

Just like Mom's

Wonderful breakfast sandwich and the best breakfast potatoes on the planet. We were seated immediately even on a busy Saturday morning and our order came out promptly and piping hot. We'll be back often!

Not coming back here!

By Anne_Chicago_16 |

I had previously had not a great brkfast here but thought maybe it was just the timing - busy, maybe short on help etc. so go again. Horrible really horrible! I feel bad for the wait staff as they have to bring out the crummy food and serve it to us - and they hear the complaints. Sunday morning with friends and our food comes and its cold - two out of three of us got cold food not to mention the toast which is a joke as its either cold or not toasted (or burnt - had that once) or both. I wanted scrambled eggs with just a little cheddar cheese mixed in (I have had their eggs before and they were good - fresh and fluffy) so the plate comes and clearly he forgot the cheese and tossed it in at the last second (cold) so she took it back and all he did (or whomever did it) was take it off the plate, toss it and throw it back on the place and return it to me. No good and my turkey sausage and my friend's bacon was also cold. How hard is breakfast???

Superb, Great Setting, Service, Garden Cafe Seating

Key Lime Brioche french toast and the Applewood Bacon wrapped baked eggs filled with creamy polenta also sharp cheddar. I opted to add a side of hollandaise! Yum! Bakery goods, pies are terrific.

Everything Tasted Good

By Joe K |

We went here for brunch with some friends. There really wasn't that long of a wait for a table on the Saturday morning. I had a Mexican themed eggs dish over some very good tortillas. The ingredients were fresh and very tasty. The only problem was, both my wife and I left feeling a little underwhelmed and hungry. Nothing against M. Henry, it just all seemed rather light after finishing. Would still go back again.

What American comfort food is all about

By Taylor B |

Owner/chef JD Voss has turned M. Henry into a go-to destination spot for breakfast, brunch and lunch that is known for its American comfort food with a twist and bakery carryout. Located at 5707 North Clark Street, in Chicago's Andersonville/Edgewater neighborhood, it is open from 8 to 2 Tuesday through Sunday. Arrive early to avoid the crowd. Two items that definitely meet the taste test are Fannie's Killer fried egg sandwich and the cinnamon roll French toast. Why did it take me so long to discover how good breakfast can be? I've come a long way since the time my mother sent me off to school with a glass of orange juice. Fannie's Killer consists of toasted sourdough bread layered with two over-mediums eggs, applewood bacon, plums tomatoes, gorgonzola and thyme and served with house potatoes. Cinnamon roll French toast is made with a house baked brioche cinnamon roll layered with warm fruit, vanilla neufchatel creme and topped with house-made granola with house potatoes, apple-maple chicken sausage and two scrambled eggs. Off to work with a smile on my face.

Great way to start your Sunday

By cityboyctr |

What a gem of a breakfast cafe. Had amazing food and great service. Wait time was about 30 minutes but that is expected on a sunday when the sun is out in the city. Food came out promtly and portions were huge. Felt a bit rushed but that is ok, no reason to make others wait in the small entryway. Can't wait to go back!

Just OK

By BLG320 |

The service was just OK. The food was just OK. The price was not OK for what you get. They need to get back to basics. I had an omelet with dandelion greens and leeks that was OK but the potatoes with onions were dry and a bit burnt. I should have gone to IHOP.

The food was amazing!!

My husband & I were visiting Chicago for an event and were craving a good breakfast. M. Henry was amazing! We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates fresh delicious food! I had the most amazing Chai Latte & a vegetable keish. My husband had eggs, sausage, and pancakes. The atmosphere was great. The restaurant was clean & the staff was friendly and attentive.

Fun brunch

We drove about 40 miles to meet family at M.Henry, which they are fans of, and we were not disappointed. M.Henry has a friendly, neighborhood feel with homey decor and interesting architectural details. One person in our party loves their hibiscus iced tea and shared his with us. My hot mocha with soy was tasty. Two in our party had black bean cakes and huevos borrachos (drunken eggs), which can be ordered with tofu or with meat. One loved hers; the other liked his a lot, but maybe would have preferred a teensy bit less heat. One in our party ordered French toast with berries; it looked amazing. M.Henry's does have a gluten-free menu, but it's limited. I ordered a gluten-free salmon salad, which although not outstanding, was very nice. Some kind of gluten-free carb would have been a welcome addition; if they offer that, I didn't see it. Here's a link to M.Henry's general menu: http://www.mhenry.net/menu.html You'll find enough of a selection of both breakfast and lunch items, you'll probably want to go back again and try more. I think we will.

One Of My Favorite Places To Eat When I Visit

By Aurora_DE |

My cousin lives in Andersonville and everytime I visit Chicago we try to grab some breakfast here. Being here a handful of times, I have NEVER been dissappointed! I love all the great combos and flavors of food (so creative!), especially for the price. Can't wait to go back!

Do not miss this place.

Simply incredible! My first trip but not my last. We were three adults and a four year old and could not have been treated better if we were royalty. Before we had settled in, Juan aka Super Server, had a complementary bowl of fruit salad sat in front of the child. I would’ve been impressed with a package of crackers but this was over the top. We all had something different and it was all fantastic To eat as well as to look at. There were many servers in their place and everyone did something for us at one time or another. The child had a Cinnamon bun French toast and I had the simple one. Both were exceptional in presentation as well as flavor. The other two had a quiche and a black bean affair both they both liked very much. I found the price more than reasonable for the quantity And quality we received. I cannot wait to return.

delicious!

My friend and I got a bit lost, since it was our first time in Chicago. We were very glad that we were able to finally find this place! The service was pretty good, the staff were all nice and friendly :) I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. I ordered the rustic peasant quiche and it was just perfect!

Delicious Food, Warm Hospitality

Father's Day was a crowded but thankfully it only took 25 minutes to get in the door after noon. It's BYOB and there was a Jewel a few blocks away to get our rose with brunch. We had the Dandelion Omlette, which was delicious. Followed that with a nice quiche. Great flavor but way to small for the price. Finished with some delicious lemon, rasberry brioche french toast - decadent and delicious. Highly recommend this place for its warmth, comfort, charm and great guest service.

Gem of Andersonville

By tmatta |

Fantastic little funky breakfast / brunch / lunch joint in Andersonville! Very cozy decor and interior. I had the Chicken Sopes: two wonderfully dense tortillas smothered with toast chicken, poblanos, carrots, potatoes and cream. OMG so flavorful and addictive! Side was house potatoes, perfectly crunchy on the outside, creamy inside.

Great local brunch restaurant

By TBSMKS |

We came here for Mother's Day. My kids were kind enough to get there early and wait on line - and there was a long line. Menu is varied and eclectic. We shared the breakfast pudding which was very delicious. My daughters had the drunken eggs which they both loved. I had the rhubarb and blackberry pancakes which were delish. My husband had the smoked salmon rotolone which he really enjoyed. I think my son had a frittata which he liked. Coffee cups were constantly being refilled. Our waiter was good. There is street parking. We will definitely be back.

Breakfast Gem in Edgewater

By debbyc24 |

I was visiting my niece at Loyola University and after reading reviews decided to give m.henry a try. So glad we did! We were lucky to have a beautiful October morning in Chicago and so we opted for the outdoor garden seating. The area was small but quaint, and we were able to enjoy the lovely weather. I had the dandelion, shallot & leek omelet with fontina and it was superb! I asked my server to go easy on the cheese and the kitchen did just that - it was perfect and not at all a huge globby mess like it is at most restaurants. My niece had the pancakes, aptly named bliss cakes on the menu, and also enjoyed them very much. The pancakes were so light and fluffy and the mascarpone between the pancakes certainly made them swoon worthy. She said she couldn't wait to go back and tell her college friends about this place and was eager to come back. That right there is a great recommendation in my book!

Comfort food kicked up a notch!!

By HollywoodHank |

M Henry puts a twist on pancakes you'll want for more. My partner and I decided between two entree's he chose Jorge's black bean cakes & egg and I chose the blackberry bliss cakes. The blackberry cakes are not pancakes, but BETTER. This plate was like eating warm blackberry cobbler, with vanilla cream between two cakes. OMG!!! I also ordered a side of applewood bacon, which was cooked to perfection and probably some of the best bacon I've had in a restaurant. Since I initially wanted to try Jorge's black bean cakes my partner let me try them. YUMMY!! black beans with the smokey flavor of chipotle is unique and fantastic. If you're looking for a good place for breakfast, brunch that's a little different and great service give M Henry a try.

Great food...Best crepes

By rnjhen |

Went there with a friend for a brunch, the place is full. It is cute and a quint breakfast place. I order the fresh fruit crepes and it so delicious, just mouth watering. And my friend order the French toast and she so loved it. They use organic products whenever possible. The service is excellent. Will definitely come back!!!

This Should Be In Chi-Town's Top 10!!

By Alice B |

I absolutely ADORE M. Henry. I lived in Andersonville over the summer and every Saturday morning i would get up and walk to my favorite restaurant to have an amazing brunch to kick off an amazing weekend. I was lucky enough that I had a whole summer to try different things on the menu and find my favorites. Fannie's Fried Egg Sandwich was probably my fav. If you get the opportunity to go, DO IT. Order iced tea (best I've ever had) and whatever entry you order, if it isn't french toast or pancakes, order one slice of french toast. It is to die for.

Delicious, generous portions and quaint!

By MLR |

This modest restaurant is in the Andersonville area of Chicago. The decor is quaint, with small wooden tables, hanging mismatched framed windows acting as dividers between tables, and a separate, adjoining bake shop. Everything on the menu sounds delicious and everything we ordered (7 of us) was delicious and didn't disappoint! The portions are generous - in fact, we were oogling the blueberry-lemon pancakes another table ordered, but the stacks were so large that we didn't think we could finish it! Service is prompt, friendly and the food was served quickly. What more can you ask for?? Give it a try - you won't be disappointed either!

Pleasant but not a destination place

By Bacinac |

I drove a long way to have breakfast at M.Henry. I like to try different places around the city. I rank the place on the food and whether or not it is worth going out of your way. M.Henry is a pleasant little restaurant. Great people. Variety of options on the menu. Reasonable prices. Nice neighborhood for strolling after your meal. My friend and I ordered 4 breakfast options so that we can sample variety. The spinach goat cheese quiche was good. Very aromatic...lots of flavor. Comes with a fresh side salad. The Spanish chorizo, egg and black bean cakes was my main dish. The menu made sound a lot more interesting than it tasted. There was a lot of different flavors but nothing complimented each other. Worth trying but not something I’d get again. We also had an order of simple pancakes and a fruit crepe. The fruit crepe was good but a little soggy. The pancakes were good but a little dry. Good service but a little slow. I got there at 9 AM and was seated quickly. It took about 20 minutes or so to fill our order. In the meantime the bus boys did a good job keeping the water glasses and coffee cups full. At around 11 AM there was a long line waiting to be seated. Worth coming early. The uniqueness of the food certainly makes the place better than your average breakfast joint but I didn’t care for it enough to go out of my way again. Worth it if you are in the neighborhood.
