Super neighborhood bar

By Lynn L |

My husband and I love Mac’s for a good sandwich and other creative menu items. Numerous choices of beer, also.

Pleasantly Surprised

By Cassie C |

I am a fan of It's Always Sunny, so I felt the need to support Rob and Kaitlin's restaurant. The restaurant is in a great area, and the atmosphere was fun on a Friday night. The food was actually much better than expected. The sweet potato wedges with icing were a very good appetizer. I had the roast pork sandwich, and the pork was extremely tender and cooked to perfection. Overall, if you are a fan of the show, don't hesitate to check out Mac's.

Great spot for drinks and some grub!

By Sean O |

Cool spot owned by the Sunny folks! Great Mac N Cheese, which is convenient. Super great service and sit outside for sure if you can, people watch from the spot!

good food with good brews!

By bethany40 |

My husband and I stopped at Mac's twice during our stay in Philly--once for lunch and then again for a beer and to watch some of the football game. We had the turkey BLT and the crab cake sandwich, which were the special price on the day we visited. They were both delicious and came with a generous portion of fries--also delicious. Our server was very patient, bringing three samples of beer before I found one I liked. On our second visit, we watched the Eagles game with a large group of local fans. a blast!

Good watering hole with excellent bar snacks

By Mike H |

We stopped in for a few drinks and snacks on a Saturday afternoon. This is a nice clean place, spacious and great atmosphere. The owners are the creators of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" but this bar does not resemble "Paddy's Pub". We had the hot chicken wings and the cheesesteak eggroll. Both were very good and above average bar food. Nothing out of a frozen bag. The bartender was a little gruff but that was understandable seeing how every 20 something stops in expecting "Paddy's Pub" . Worth the time and effort.

Mrs. Christie

By Christie A |

Crab bisque was fantastic, my daughter orders grilled cheese and loved it. Cold Fuller's Pride. Waitress was busy but attentive. House fries were yummy. Great atmosphere.

Just ok

By Alex G |

Came on a Thursday night was some pals. This place was just ok, there are better bars in Old City to check out.

Lively bar

By LondonLassE1 |

This is a lively bar so great if that's what you're looking for, but not really a place for a quiet relaxed drink. Think it's a bit of an Irish bar, but as a Brit this place also felt more like a sports bar as has a few big TVs around the place. Wine served from a tap, rather than a bottle, which was fun as hadn't seen that before.

Great option

By Debbiekc73 |

Philly cheesesteak, fries, and a bowl of chili were shared by the two of us, and it did not disappoint.

lunch

By Stephen S |

My wife and I visited for a late lunch today. The pork sandwich was very good the cheesesteak was also very good. The 21 st amendment beer excellent but i think it would have been better served in a frosted mug. The server was very effecient

Terrible service

By Chipfio9 |

Arrived at a table around 10pm and was not approached for over 15 minutes. Then waitress demanded a credit card after she said they were out of the first 2 things we tried to order on the menu. She was probably the worst and rudest waitress I have encountered in my 49 years on this earth. Seemed like a decent place but that ruined it for us and party of 8. Not going back any time soon

Great atmosphere and drinks!

By Shannon S |

Loved the atmosphere and the food and drinks were good, plus it's owned by the Always Sunny gang! $5 mimosas in a pint glass.

Below average

By Kelly M |

The cheesesteak egg rolls were cold and tasteless. I discovered a long, black hair in my quesadilla and the waitress scolded me for not telling her sooner (I had only eaten one bite). The only palatable item was a portobello mushroom burger which was decent, but not great. Will not be returning.

Interesting cocktails and great chicken tenders!

By TravelNerd |

Not a beer fan so I went for a cocktail that I enjoyed. The chicken tenders were delicious and the sauces made them even juicier.

It's Always Sunny

By Melissa S |

As a fan of It's Always Sunny and now living in the Philadelphia burbs, how could I not visit this place?! It is definitely a divey-type bar/restaurant which I can appreciate. Maybe that is just the night-shifter in me coming out. I loved all the pictures placed all over the wall of the gang from the show. The beer list was surprisingly extensive which I wasn't really expecting. They had seasonal beers, two unique ciders, even one of my all time favorites Wells Banana Bread Beer - yum! As for the food, it was your typical bar food choices. I will give it to them when it comes to sauces. My husband had an awesome sauce with his sandwich and I had cherry bbq sauce on top of my pulled pork sandwich. If you are a fan of the show, you should stop by and give it a try.

GREAT BAR -- GREAT PEOPLE

By Stew S |

Stopped off on a thirsty-break and had a few cool ones -- great people here and wide range of brews - parking may challenge

Great location and friendly staff!

By Lori F |

We stopped in to quench our thirst and get out of the sun for a bit. They have a menu that looked good but we unfortunately had already eaten. The staff is very friendly and shared local "do's and don'ts" to help us get acquainted with the city. We will definitely go back for lunch next visit!

It is always sunny

By Kizzamin |

Went to Mac's for St Patty's day weekend with some family. All of us being fans of the show were impressed with the subtle references such as green man, a framed Chase Utley jersey, etc. I was also pleasantly surprised by the beer and food menus. They had a pretty nice selection of local and specialty beers and the food was awesome, especially the sweet potato fries. Being a vegetarian I was also pleased with the veg options available. It was very much upscale pub fare and well executed. The staff was also super friendly and helpful. Even if you are not a fan of the show it's still worth the trip.

A use to be spot in Olde City

By 1801Jack |

Stopped in while in Center City. Good stuff, staff was nice and attentive, and the beer was cold. Bad stuff, wife ordered Chicken tenders and they were over cooked and if they had taste it was cooked out of them. I got the chicken cheese steak, and it was a mistake.

A crowded pub

By WorldTravelers34 |

My wife and I stopped here for a beer. Mac’s is located in historic Old City. They have a great selection of locals and micro-brews from all over the US, not as many as other brewpubs, but a great selection across flavor profiles. We didn’t eat here so cannot comment on the food, but the locals say the food here is good.

Could Have Been A 5

By Mark G |

Mac's could have been a 5 except for the slow and upon entering non existent service. We walked in and a sign greets you to wait for service to be seated, but after a while in the 1/2 empty bar we decided to seat ourselves as the barmaids looked on and talked to customers. Finally a waitress came over and gave us menus and disappeared before we could get information on the specials. At times thru the night the help was so involved with talking to some of the locals they neglected the others in the restaurant. Finally we got our $4 happy hour Sierra Nevada Sidecar Orange IPA's and ordered the Pecan encrusted chicken tenders that were as good as I have ever had. Cooked perfectly, with the great crust and lightly fried with a perfectly moist inside. They were so good we ordered a 2nd plate and then a 3rd plate and skipped dessert. We will certainly drop in here again the next time we are in town, and hope some employees get awareness training. Unfortunately, even the poor service wouldn't keep me away from coming back here to order more of the this chicken.

Very Good Food

By Jack Jacoby |

I started with a cup of chili and ended up getting the Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak sandwich. The flavor was excellent and filling. Definitely will go back. Thanks, Mac.

Understaffed

By R_Journey |

The bar was understaffed on this particular day with one lady running the show. For that reason, placing an order and later paying the bill took ages. We also ordered hot wings and barbecue wings. However, we received two orders of hot wings instead. The server made us aware of the error on placing the food in front of us but gave us no opportunity to send one back. A disappointing experience.

Not touristy at all

By Ron |

Nice local bar to grab a beer. Although this place was made famous by the "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" TV show, it doesn't have any of the gimmicky or touristy feel that visiting the Cheers bar in Boston has. This pretty much is a local neighborhood bar, picked up from it's hidden location and dropped down smack dab in the middle of Old City. When the bumping bass and flashing lights of the 2nd Street clubs, or the clouds of apple scented hookah smoke become too much for you, this is a relaxing and tranquil place to grab a pint with no judgment or worries. Also, great pre-game location and an easy spot to have friends meet you at.

Mac & Sweet Dee's Tavern!

By Deana M |

I love "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" so naturally, I HAD to come here. AWESOME "Mac & cheese" but didn't like the "It's Always Sunny" beer. Still a great place to hang out with friends though. Now, crossing my fingers in hopes to see Rob" McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson...

It's always Sunny In Philadelphia

By domkennedy07 |

Awesome bar! A must see for any visiting It's always sunny fans :) Cool decor inside with pictures of the crew around the walls and a great atmosphere with a wide selection of beers on draught. Friendly staff with a really chilled out vibe food looked great.

Came for a drink

By nationalbiscuit |

We enjoyed a drink at the bar and a snack while admiring the It's Always Sunny touches throughout the restaurant. It was a nice place to sit and it seemed like there were lots of regulars and the staff was kind.

Excellent service and good meals...

By EximiousTraveller |

Having been to several “The Office” sites in Scranton with my grandson, he warned me that there was one place where he wanted to go for a meal and that was at Mac’s Tavern as was co-owned by McElhenney and Olson of “It’s always Sunny in Philadelphia”. Not having seen the programme I wasn’t sure what to expect but what a wonderful experience this turned out to be. Mac’s Tavern wears its celebrity lightly and just concentrates on producing good meals and drinks. It that respect, it does those very well indeed. The atmosphere is super with lots of photos on the walls and a basic bar area which looks a bit like the bar on ‘Sunny’ – the first series of which I have now seen. I had a burger and my grandson had a Po Boy. Cooked well and served efficiently by excellent servers, this was a real treat and not just because of the “Sunny” connection.

Great relaxing atmosphere!

By HollyHin |

Great place to stop off for a beer. Also serves delicious cider. The fries are also to die for. Bar owned by a couple of the actors from 'Always Sunny in Philadelphia'.

Keep Walking

By Chillaxin71 |

We stopped in to check it out and have a beverage. The whole experience was painful. The bartender was disinterested from the start. Finally we had to call him over to place our order. Seeing that no one was eating and not being offered a menu, we chose to call it for the night and head on our way. Wonder if they do serve food because we didn't see or smell any cooking. Rated the food a 1 by accident and not able to remove it. We never was offered a menu to even think about ordering food.

Pretty good food and value for money

By Susan D |

We were looking for a quick place to eat before catching a train. It is barlike inside but we sat at one of two outdoor tables. The food quality was very good. Prices seemed right. Staff was friendly and efficient. I would go again if in Philly.

Good food and drinks

By Colette |

We were in Philly for 3 days and came here each day. Good choice of draught beers. Beware food portions are large.

Good food, nothing spectacular

By Scott_Rob_43 |

We visited while on a recent trip to Philadelphia. The food was good and fresh, but was nothing spectacular. It is conveniently located and does have afternoon hours, unlike many places in the area that close between 2pm-5pm. Service was good as well.

Wouldn't go back. Disappointing

By beowulf566 |

We went here because we are fans of always sunny and if they are trying to recreate the customer service in the show they are doing a good job. We stood at the wait to be seated sign for a long time while the bartender looked at us and said nothing we finally gave up and sat ourselves at the bar he still didn't acknowledge us for a long time and then we finally got drinks at this point I almost left but we stayed on for the mediocre food and more piss poor service. Wouldn't go back if it was free. Looks nothing like the show I guess rob m. And Kaitlin l. Are part owners but if I was them I would sell my interest and get the name changed.

Good little dive bar

By Jenna N |

Small place with decent beer and cocktail list. We were thinking of a snack but apps were too pricy ($7 for just French fries?) so it was a comfortable place to hang out before we were ready to move on to the next stop.

It's Always Great at Mac's

By pehland |

Like most others, we were drawn here because of Always Sunny. The decor has some subtle Always Sunny references (Chase Utley jersey on the wall, several items on the menu, etc.). The beer selection is extensive, the food is great, and the atmosphere always fun. Prices are a bit high, but what do you expect in Center City?

Good pub atmosphere in Old City

By T J |

Stopped into Mac's during a pub crawl with my brother, sat and the bar and had a couple beers. Service was good, the place isn't that big but probably has about 20 bar seats. The beer selection was pretty good, I think I had something from Conshohocken brewing, a local brewery. We didn't get anything to eat but I would probably give it a try. Owned by Mac from It's Always Sunny!

Good vibes and amazing food!

By journey2fifty |

We had to visit here due to our love for Always Sunny in Philadelphia! Seeing all the pictures of the cast on the walls made us incredibly excited!! On top of all that; the food was delicious, the staff was super friendly, and the vibes of the environment were amazing. Definitely try this place out for some good grub and drinks!

A nice little bar

By Jacklyn H |

We came here because we are Always Sunny fans and we were hoping to run into "Mac". We didn't see him but we had some drinks and some laughs. It is a nice bar and the staff was very polite. I would go back for a drink the next time I am in Philly!

best specialty burger - Red Jack spicy ...

By 123ru_0k |

We went for dinner and happend that they have a specialty burger. The burger was great, topped with their own mango habanero sauces and rib pulled pork, cheese and great meat. ...superb

Good food

By Snickerdoddle |

Food was excellent. It’s a bar so everyone was having a good time. Waitress was very effecient and friendly.

It's not Paddy's Pub...

By AudKat |

...it's better! Stopped into Mac's for a late afternoon beer and a snack. The snack turned out to be a heaping helping of French fried gravy bliss. Good selection of beers. Servers were friendly and smiling. No complaints here!

Little Gem.

By IanMac555 |

Recommended by guests in our hotel and Mac’s did not disappoint. Guinness at just the right temperature and excellent food. On the night we were there the bartender was on his own but did a fantastic job keeping up with all the customers. Highly recommended by us as well.

Staff rude families not welcome

By Simon B |

Visited while on vacation with older kids. Walked in and ordered a drink while waiting for a waitress. Waitress came over and was really rude threw us out because we had children! Wtf! Had a drinkers bar feel to it, won’t be returning.

Always Sunny in Old City

By John C |

We stopped in to this establishment after a Segway tour to grab a quick bite. The service was great, food was prepared as we asked. Great beer list here, both on tap and bottled. Of course we came here because of the Always Sunny connection, but will return for the friendly service and great bar eats and drinks!

Great little bar

By northernmonkey29 |

A bar with a relaxed, friendly atmopshere and full of locals which is the best endorsement for any bar. The drink choices were vast but bar staff were extremely helpful and attentive. We ordered a sandwich which was not only huge and delicious, it was really reasonably priced too! There was sport on every TV in there so we found ourselves watching two "football" games simultaneously.

Disappointed

By lizzz1883 |

My husband was looking forward to visiting here as he is a big fan of the show "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." They had good prices, the food was delicious, but they were out of so much. We ordered two or three different things on a Saturday afternoon they had run out of.

Best Spot on Market Street

By Angied911 |

Our favorite spot in Philadelphia. Friendly service, good beer selection, and a knowledgeable staff. The food was exceptional. We were able to step out and watch fireworks and step right back in to our cozy table. We will definitely re-visit when in Philadelphia!

Beer Only - Skip the Food

By s s |

Nice place, Fantastic Beers, Horrible Food. Might be better if they microwaved some frozen dinners -- wait - maybe that is what they did.

Soulless tourist trap

By Christopher |

This was once a great bar. However, it's now a south jersey tourist trap. There's not much left in olde city, but avoid this place and just look elsewhere.

Always Sunny

By tbchick2011 |

Stopped in for dinner because I love the show Always Sunny in Philadelphia (several of the actors own part of the bar). Unlike the show, this bar was very classy. Prices were decent and it seemed like the locals were joking with the bar staff. Friendly atmosphere.

Family vacation in Philly

By Chaya S |

We stopped in for a midday lunch. Service was great and good was good. Price was mid range and fair for a family of four. We only ha appetizers, so cannot speak to the main menu.

Extremely disappointed

By Chloe W |

Went today to visit the bar. Being big fans of the show we were really excited to visit rob and Kaitlyns bar. Once we got in the bar was noticeably empty, took a seat at in a both and the waitress came over and gave us some menus. I was shocked to find the menu was just printed doubled sided paper, that was fine. Bit weird but fine. Then the waitress approached us again, and we attempted to order a drink. When asked for our ID she rejected our drivers license, then said she would continue to serve us but not an alcoholic beverage. As two 25 year old adults, I think it’s actually ridiculous that our VALID identification can not be accepted. Given the age of the target audience that support rob and Kaitlyn in the show it’s extremely disappointing that we are unable to support them in their private business venture. I would tell anyone coming to Philadelphia NOT to come to the bar. I honestly have never been so disappointed.

Yes, it gets crowded, but there's a reason for that...

By SanDiego |

Go here. You won't be sorry. Locals love this spot for a reason. Upstairs tends to be less crowded than downstairs.

Awful service

By Katie S |

If the only reason you go is because Rob is part owner don't bother. Was super excited to try this place for my Birthday celebration but very disappointed. Waited at the bar for a drink with no acknowledgment and had to pull a server aside to explain that it was 10 minutes without the bartender even saying hello to us. When he did come to us he didn't apologize for the wait and just asked what we wanted and seemed irritated. I understand sometimes it's a wait, but it's your job as a bartender to at least acknowledge the customer and assure them they are not being ignored, especially when it's not even that busy and you have two bartenders on. Drinks were fine that's the only reason I rated poor instead of terrible.

Spur of the moment lunch

By Shawn P |

Stopped in for a quick lunch with my daughter since she just moved in around the corner from this place. Food was good and average priced for this area. Service was good at first and then dropped off after we had gotten our meal. Would give them another try.

“Worst bar in philly”

By Ronnie N |

I came in today but I was holding a piece of pizza that I just wanted to throw away and the lady behind the counter just screams at me and yells to me to take it back outside.(I came in immediately searching for a trash can) I didn’t get to enjoy this bar because she embarrassed me in front of many people. I can’t give it one star though because to be owned by Rob McElhenney it definitely is true to IASIP for having extremely rude employees. I deserved 5 star service because IM A FIVE STAR MAN

Chill Bar

By TravelinTeresa84 |

Slightly underwhelming if you’re a fan looking for similarities with the show. It’s a cozy pub not unlike any other. Not a bad stop if you’re pub crawling, but nothing really made it stand out from others. Draught list is a pretty good size. If you’re into craft beers the selection they offer is nice.

Good food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff

By Maria_Be77 |

I read some reviews about rude staff so I was worried but went anyway due to my Always Sunny in Philadelphia obsession. Our waitress, Erica, was lovely and very attentive. My food was delicious although I would say a little overpriced, however I'm unsure if those are Philly prices. The decor is simple and includes Philadelphia touches throughout. The woman restroom was a little tight. Word of advice for lunch, we walked in around 12 and there were only about 3 other tables of diners. By 1:30 the place was packed and a line of patrons were waiting to be seated at the door.

Good food Friendly service

By shdlandfan |

We had good service and enjoyed our dinner and drinks. The Mac-n-cheese is great. The chicken was a bit over cooked. Overall a nice night out and would go again

Great Find!

By mjl482017 |

We came here for dinner on a Friday night around 6:00PM. This is a restaurant/bar. We were seated right away. It was a bit hot and humid outside which is why we chose an air conditioned restaurant rather then a walk up window for our cheesesteaks. I had the Cheesesteak which was delicious! They use American cheese, not Whiz. I did not hear much about their cheesesteaks and was wary about trying it. I was not disappointed! The fried mozzarella and actually triangles (not cheese sticks). They use fresh mozzarella. These were also delicious. We also tried the Cheesesteaks Rolls as an appetizer. I would NOT recommend these. It is basically an egg role with a cheesesteak filling. A bit greasy and not very tasty.

Delicious food!

By ER15401 |

Buffalo chicken cheese steak.. that's all I have to say. Absolutely delicious! And the fries were amazing too! Everyone in our party got assorted sandwiches (various cheese steaks and a pulled pork sandwich) and we all enjoyed our meals. Nice selection of drinks and friendly service.

Very good atmosphere and food!

By Mickey0672 |

We had lunch at this tavern. Our waitress was nice but a little disinterested in us. The food was good. We had two specialty salads, a pulled pork sandwich and shrimp appetizer, two beers, a coke and a Bloody Mary. The special was $2 off an appetizer and I believe the Bloody Mary was also $5 special. Our meal was $75 for four people. I thought this was a little pricey for lunch but it was tasty. We were a little bummed that they didn't have " It's always sunny in Philadelphia" T's.

Say no to nachos

By Dustin S |

I’m not sure nachos could be bad, but was proven wrong. The “cheese” was cheese in name only. Maybe cheezwhiz, but that with tomato’s and a little sour cream and chicken fragments made for a less than desirable dish. The staff was nice, but nachos were bland at best. Beer selection was OK.

Always great

By pehland |

Even though their menu and bottled/can beer selection shrunk since our last time there, Mac's continues to be a must-do in Philadelphia. The roasted pork sandwich and gravy fries can't be passed up, and I would also heartily recommend the fried calamari. The service has never been anything but great. McElhenney and Olson obviously run a tight ship, and we'll keep coming back.

Average(ish) Bar

By baz_0812 |

I'll be honest and say there was nothing stand out about this bar, although there is no reason not to visit the place, it has cold beers, right? It's neither expensive nor inexpensive and the atmosphere is friendly enough. Never tried the food so can't comment on that other than saw a few plates coming out and they looked pretty tasty and no one was complaining. Maybe I'm being a tad harsh here due to some of the other top notch places I visited on the same trip...if you are passing give it a go, no reason not to.

Never knew, glad we stopped

By red6111 |

Well, when you wander this area there are many eateries whose hype may not live up to your expectation, never heard of Mac's, so we wandered in. The bartender as it turned out was also our server, not a problem. He was friendly, and attentive in just the right way, we needed to savor our meal as we were headed to the theater. We started with the cheesesteak rolls, just enough to start the meal with and hot and tasty. A burger, turkey BLT and pork BBQ sandwich all delicious and generous portions, all served with fries. Clean and well kept, small inside with a full long bar on the one side. Don't pass up a good thing, you sometimes just never know!

Great Place

By BGrimes1968 |

Good beer. Good wait staff. Get the cheesesteak roll appetizer. Will come back next time in town. Sit outside if you can.

Decent Food but Nothing Special

By powr2b |

We stopped in here when our first choice was very busy. There was only one person out front being hostess, bar tender and waitress. She was very pleasant and worked her tushy off trying to please everyone but in the end service was so slow because she was covering too many things. The food was okay, nothing spectacular.

Amazing Food!!!

By Marie J |

We stopped at Mac's Tavern for a light lunch after having spent the afternoon sightseeing. I was completely unaware of the culinary delights that awaited my tastebuds!!! I ordered the Burbonian sandwich. I can not recall everything that went in it, however what I can say is that it was a little bit of heaven mixed in with pixie dust and the end result was an AMAZIMG sandwich. I believe that there was steak and mushrooms, along with cheese and a sweet bourbon sauce. Rest assured there was a taste explosion with every bite. We also ordered onion rings (outstanding) and I had a mixed drink that tasted like lemonade, but rest assured was much more than that. The magical lemon elixir had ingredients such as gin and citrus vodka. I would definitely eat there again and encourage anyone and everyone who has a chance to eat there to do it. You will not be disappointed.

It wasn't sunny outside...

By Tracy M |

BUT it was inside!!! Food was great, the atmosphere was fun. My son who loves the show was in heaven. The bar, really doesn't look anything like the show, but there are enough pics and memorablia to make it worth your while. We had lunch and it was great!

Poutine and beer

By Shaun D |

We only had a couple drinks and the poutine but this definitely a nice little bar. The bartender was a bit awkward like he was cross examining us but became a bit more friendly after becoming happy with our passports. (we are 27 and 33)

Would Definitely return!

By JapaneseChin |

Went there for lunch with my son. First time in Philly. The food was delicious! Got a CheeseSteak sub (of course). Wait staff were excellent. They knew when to ask if we needed anything else, and left us to enjoy our meals.Clean, comfortable setting. Music was great! I could have stayed there the whole afternoon! I would highly recommend lunch at this establishment.

Lovely warm reception and cold beer

By Rachael W |

Lovely time in Mac's this afternoon. Erica the bartender was fun and chatty. We're from Wrexham and it was great to be so well received. Erica regaled us with stories of the "team" coming to visit

Enjoyed a nice pint at Mac's

By Mike M |

My wife and I had a pint at Mac's on our recent trip to Philly. It is located in a great location on Market St in Old City. We were there on a Sunday so football was on. The craft beer selection was fantastic with many local craft ales on tap. The bartender was helpful and knowledgeable with his beer suggestions.

Good Food!

By Debra C |

We had lunch here. The Greek Salad and Veggie burger were really good. They had a nice selection of beer as well. It was a nice atmosphere.

Very Disappointed

By L-H-H-Mac |

Fans of the show, we visited this place on our travels of the US from Scotland. Of all the places we visited, this was the only place who refused to serve us alcohol despite my boyfriend and I both having a valid UK driving license. The waitress demanded we show our passports as soon as we sat down and when I didn't have mine, she refused to not just serve me but also my boyfriend who had his passport with him. It was 7pm on a Wednesday night, we were only looking for dinner and some drinks. We found this ridiculous not just because we're 28 and 33 years old, but because we were surrounded by people who were clearly younger than us, all drinking, we hadn't experienced this from the 4 states we'd visited previously and the sheer rudeness of the waitress who gave no explanation for this "rule" which is unfair, dated and lost them money as we had planned to spend a good few hours there. Worst waitress of the whole trip!! Suggest the owners put on their website any visitors outwith the US bring their passport if they wish to be served.

Felt like I was sitting in a tavern in my hometown

By nbheorge999 |

Visited Philly with my wife and two sons. All three are huge It Always Sunny fans, so there wasn't really any other option. Beer was cold, food was plentiful and delicious, and the service was exceptional. The place is moderate size and filled up quickly around lunch, but the bartender and the waitress were at the top of their game and never missed a chance to better our experience.

Nice place to see

By Rayka-Rayka |

By no means was this a blow your socks off experience, but it was worth stopping in. Good was good and they have a hand full of good beers.

Alright,alright,alright!

By Chaddington B |

Cool bar with really good food. Must go if youre a fan of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Was a little disappointed that Mac wasnt there doing occular patdowns to make sure everything is safe for the patrons. Really good draft micro brews as well that you HAVE to try,you know....because of the implication.

Good for a drink or two...not sure why all the hate

By Steve G |

Jumped in here with a group of friends touring the city, and we all had a couple of drinks before running next door for a cheesesteak. The beer selection was very good, and the bartenders were helpful and friendly. Seemed like a perfectly decent local bar. Certainly not super touristy, but that wasn't what we were looking for. Definitely worked well for us. (And for the record, this place is loosely associated with "Always Sunny" because it is owned by Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson, two stars of the TV show. But don't mistake it for the actual Paddy's, which is a purely fictional place.)

Great service, good food.

By Brandon A |

Came here for a quick lunch while in Philly for work. The service was great even though the bartender was also serving and quite busy, she was on top of her game. The food was pretty good at an average price for the area. Only down fall was the bread for my sandwich was tough to bite through so the insides fell out. Had to eat with a fork. I like the atmosphere inside, I'd love to do some day drinking here and try some other foods.

A solid pub-style bar with a great menu

By Daniel O |

Like many of the prior reviewers, I'm a "Sunny" fan and was anxious to visit here. I wasn't expecting it to look like the bar on the TV show...actually, I didn't know what to expect. My wife and I visited on a late Saturday afternoon. It looks like any other pub/tavern. The beer selection was quite large. There was plenty of seating available, including a few outdoor tables. The weather was great, and we took two barstools at the small rail in front of the open windows. So we got to do some people watching, and more importantly, we got to peak at what the outdoor patrons were eating. We didn't have time to eat, but I'm really looking forward to going back because the menu was large and the food look fantastic for pub/bar food.

Peolple watching in Phiily.

Mac's is a great place for people watching. Food is good and affordable. Outside sitting is great for families and or couples.

Great bar food

By annc123 |

We had an excellent lunch at Mac's yesterday. We ordered several appetizers, the Bourbonic Steak sandwich (awesome), and crab soup. Everything was fresh and the sandwiches were huge. If we're in the area again, we'd certainly go back.

Friendly staff, great food

By Heather M |

We stopped here for lunch while we were in the historic area of Philly. The bartender was extremely friendly and accommodating. She knew to put kids orders in quickly and did so. Unfortunately, as in most places we visited in Philly, there wasn't a kids menu, and even the standard fare (fries, chicken tenders, mac and cheese) were seasoned in ways that made them "too spicy" for my kids. The food tasted AMAZING to the adults. (I particularly enjoyed the mac and cheese that my kids wouldn't eat.) I would definitely recommend it and happily return again. I just won't take my fussy eater kiddos with me.

All good

By Thomas |

Went in with wife and two kids. This place has dive bar decor but way better than dive bar food. Great selection of tasty beers, one of the best steak sandwiches i've had, and good burgers and fries. Other stuff on the menu looked good too, but i came in with a cheesesteak in mind so that's what i had.

Meh

By Travel Moniker |

I went for the name but that really doesn’t pull it up at all. Just an average bar with average food. The woman bartender was loud and annoying, pouring drinks for friends and then sitting at the bar. The remaining bartender did a good job of handling the crowd. The double hamburger was over cooked and there were less than a handful of fries. Average in so many ways, yet expected more.

What a surprise!

By judibru |

Stopped in because it was raining, we were hungry and I didn't want pizza. We were just looking for a quick sandwich and a beer, but what we got was a very pleasant surprise. I ordered the Bourbonic Steak sandwich (rib eye, mushrooms, onions, gouda). Daughter ordered the summertime chili and hubby ordered a burger. WOW! My steak sandwich was NOT a typical Philly cheese steak (which I love!). It was huge with just the right amount of mushrooms, gravy & cheese. The summer chili was perfect served with guac and pico de gallo--spicy, but not overly so. Burger was cooked exactly as ordered and served on a brioche bun and excellent. The bloody mary was spot on! Service was fine.

Food good, but nickel-and-dime pricing

By South_Georgia_boy |

3 couples came here for supper. Place is quite dark at night -- had to use phones to be able to see the menu. The food was pretty good, better than average pub grub. But drinks were no refills -- extra sauce for the wings was 50 cents -- just nickel and dime crap. Service was fine. Would have had a pleasant evening if every little extra thing hadn't come with a price tag.

Disappointed

By Thomas D |

Memorial Day weekend we stopped at macs for a late lunch. Couldn’t get a table outside, but that’s normal. Not a lot of outside tables. Went inside and was seated right away. Only one waitress available, and we’re the only group inside, ugh. Waited 10 minutes for bartender to ask if we wanted drinks. It just got worse. Can’t run a place understaffed.

I’ve got news! I’ve got HUGE news!

By Britt |

We stopped in to macs tavern for a drink one of our nights in Philadelphia. The bartenders were friendly and I was very impressed when a crowd of 20+ came in after us to be served drinks in mere minutes. Even as the bar filled up the staff remained attentive and friendly. I really enjoyed the mixed decor of show references and Phily sports memorabilia. If we had more time in the City we would have gone back at a meal time; and will definitely catch a meal next time we’re in town.

Best meal I ate in Philly

By jordant22780 |

My girlfriend and I are huge fans of Sunny, so we had to try this out. I tried the shrimp po' boy and it was excellent. My girlfriend had the BLT. Some of the best sandwiches we had our whole trip! We would have went back, there just was not enough time during our short trip.

Late night drinks

By Rich S |

Stopped in as we got to hotel late and my wife went to sleep, so I walked down to Market St and found Mac's. It was around 1 am so my expectations were not high. Staff was friendly, decent beer menu...only thing stopping me from a higher rating is that I didn't stay long and didn't eat here. It is just a short walk from The Wyndham hotel.

Great!

By maireadhelmes |

Stopped in for a quick bite and was blown away by how good the food was! Cool atmosphere and great food. You must try the poutine and cheesesteak egg rolls.

A Night Out

By Emily O |

This location is great for a relaxing Sunday spent hanging out in the city. Very reasonable prices and the staff was super friendly. I would definitely visit again in the near future.

At least they had live music...

By durangophilly |

When we arrived, it appeared to be a college type bar, with lots of drunk 20 somethings. We couldn't get anyone to come by and serve us, and finally flagged down a waitress who seemed annoyed that we wanted to order. Food was cold when it was served and it wasn't the highlight of the night for us, we moved on down Market Street for better service and better ambiance...at least they had live music!

Amazing food!!!

By veranators |

My wife and I were visiting Philly and we both wanted to check out this place since we are huge "Sunny" fans. It is safe to say that when we visit again we will definitely be stopping back! First off, the atmosphere is great. The scene is so chill and the music was fantastic. Secondly (and most importantly), the food. Chipotle-lime aioli dip for your fresh-cut fries?! I wish I could shower in that stuff forever! The food came in huge portions. I got Sweet D's Turkey BLT and it was awesome. My wife got a grilled chicken wrap and that was fantastic! Everything was amazing here. You definitely have to hit this place whether you're a fan of the show or not. Great food!

Great beer good food

By cduby15 |

But I would go anywhere that Mac owned. Oddly, the place had no security. I was at least expecting an ocular pat down. Or maybe I got one and it wasn't noticeable. Seriously it is a very good bar and the food was good. It was late afternoon when we got there so it was still empty. I imagine it is loud once it fills up. Nice place.

Go Birds! She was a pleasure to have in class!

By Will B |

Visited from out of town and had a blast. It's a bar. Not a chuck-e-cheez. Leave your kids where they belong....at home. The people are great and Lisa and Erika (Erica?) (Erick Uh?) are fantastic. The food is good, but the people are the best. Would recommend to anyone who is not a jerk.

Love It! Love It!

By Roy David J |

I visited this wonderful bar and grill twice in the three days I was in Philadelphia - because it was so good! I look for good serve, good food, good drinks and value for money - Mac's has it all. Having said all of the above, being a visitor to the States, I did need some assistance and "Mackenzie" came through with flying colours. The first night was crazy with football in town but she managed everything with amazing courtesy and efficiency. The second evening she somehow remember us and was even more accommodating. This girl is a treasure and real asset to the establishment. Loved the Buffalo Shrimp! A must in Philly!

What a Fun Place

By BeeBee623 |

While in Philly on business this week four of us decided to leave the hotel and find something different for dinner. We wandered about in the wrong direction more than once before asking a few questions, getting turned back around and end up at this fun little place. A real "surfs up" looking guy with a red ball cap turned backwards came outside to our table to take our order. He was funny, he was charming and he was a great server. I had a bowl of Mac's Chili, a delicious, made from scratch mixture of spices, beef, beans, tomatoes, peppers all cooked to perfection then topped with cheese and a dollop of guacamole. It was so yummmmy.A dining mate chose lobster mac and cheese that was beautifully served in a small iron skillet. We sat outside for a couple of hours enjoying a delightful meal, beautiful evening and wonderful company. Great place for friends to go.

The perfect Philly sports bar

By Allie Gone Away |

This place is made by the bartenders. Kind, fun, and willing to put on whatever game you want. This place is a true pleasure.

It's Always Sunny...

By Curtis Sheehan |

Came here because we heard it was owned by Rob McElhenney who plays Mac on the television show "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" We sat at the bar and just had drinks but everybody on the wait staff was really nice.

This is a small local tavern featured on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia".

By Devonrex03 |

The food is regular tavern style, chicken wings, burgers, philly cheesesteak, etc. The drinks were good and the bartender gave us an ample pour.

City break

By pie man |

Excellent bar on market street, drinks reasonable priced, food top quality, was very busy but didn’t have to wait too long for our order.

Always Sunny in Philadelphia guys run this place

By Andrew K |

Stopped in while visiting colleges. Great local beer selection and nice food options (cheese steak rolls a good appetizer). Hit the spot on a blast furnace hot day in Philly. Convenient to Penn's Landing. We came in at a down time so could not add much as far as the fun factor but would definitely return.

Do it!

By Keith B |

Great food. great service. soups were homemade. Warm inviting atmosphere. Good selection of drafts. What else would you want in a pub?.

It was a nicer Paddys Pub

By Anthony M |

Always sunny brought us here but we had a great time. I'm not sure what was going on with the wings but they were sooooo good. The Chase Utley jersey on the wall, awesome. We had a fun time. Great whiskey sour

Fun place, good beer and food

By ginnyh4 |

As Always Sunny fans, we had to stop at Mac's tavern. It was a nice place with touches of Always Sunny memorabilia, but not overly dedicated to that. The food was great and there was a huge selection of draft beers. Would recommend even if you don't care a bit about Always Sunny.

Good Vibes

By June C. |

One of the bars loosely based on the hit show “It’s always sunny in Philadelphia”. Honestly went there cause it was close to my hotel. Upon entering they have a couple pictures on the wall of some of the cast which is cool but the best part of the night was our bartender. He has a great personality, made pretty decent drinks and gave us some background about the town in general. You can pop in just for the pics but I bet you’ll probably stay for the good vibes.

Offensive Bartender - Won't be back to Mac's

By Elizabeth M |

We were 2 couples who stopped in at Mac's for drinks after checking out some of the sights. One of our group was cold and asked the bartender if she could have an Irish coffee. The bartender responded in a baby voice, "AW, is someone COLD?" It was strange, but we laughed it off and our friend went to the 7-11 nearby to get a coffee because the bar didn't have any. Upon her return, the bartender, again in a weird babyish voice said, "I want whiskey and Bailey's in my coffee because I'm COLD..." Then she brought over both bottles and poured them, splashing over onto our friend's hand. (On purpose?) Then the bartender said, "OOOhhh, I have Bailey's on my hand...poor me..." It was offputting and strange, and she was seemingly drunk. People were not staying to hang out with such an out-of-control person behind the bar. I saw no other mention of this in the reviews, but I think that employee might be best used in another capacity. We will not be back and will not be recommending Mac's to anyone else.

Go to Happy Hour!

By Kat |

Went here because of the show. Small bar that seemed to attract a nice after-work crowd. Apps were half off during happy hour, so we tried several. The Mac and cheese was a huge portion, but needed salt and pepper for flavor. Still very good. The cheesesteak eggrolls we're good too! Overall, good food and drinks. Nice place to spend an hour or two!

Great find!

By shutterbugkara |

Great food, beer and service! After walking around Philly on a hot day, our server sat us in a booth where he knew we would cool off.

I'd come back!

By ddallas1969 |

A great little pub with great little pub atmosphere! While in Philly we stopped in for drinks and a bite. They were out of a very beers/alcohols, but the substitutes were good. The french fries were awesome. Very good vibe to the place. I would come back.

Worst service ever.

By Mary F |

Kinda says it all. The wait to order was very long. The waitress was stressed out and handling all the tables; the bartender didn't help (second drink came when we had finished eating, instead of mid meal); food came to table cold and when asked to have it warmed up we got a snarky "Not my fault!!!" (No one said or inferred it was the waitress's fault.). Food was just ok, nothing worth waiting 30 minutes for. We eat at all types of restaurants and all price points and none of us could ever remember getting such remarkably poor service. We chalk it up to clueless management.

Expensive Bar Food

By SouthPhillyPT |

Food menu was ok but limited. Disappointed mainly due to expensive price. Service was friendly. Hoping for a more diversified and unique selection of food to justify the price.

Bad bad service!

By wab522 |

Worst service ever!...I asked for a beer and the bartender forgot about me...I asked for a second beer and was ignored...a second employee came around and I asked for water...still waiting for it...I asked for the check and the bartender told me to just give him $5.00...obviously they are stealing from the owner of this place...

Someone let the fat kid in…

By Daniel S |

Our visit to Mac's Tavern was somewhat surreal. The lady behind the bar was pretty boisterous and picked on me quite a bit. She referred to me as ‘the fat kid’ and told me I was dressed like ‘Biggie Smalls Circa 1992. At one point a friend of hers joined in and asked if I ‘was a big fat cholo’. This was all much to the amusement of my friends. Whilst some people would perhaps have been disappointed or even upset by what could be construed as wildly unprofessional behaviour; the lady, in her defence, did appear to be rather drunk. Whilst this unexpected and unusual interaction obviously impacted the enjoyment of our visit; the lady did offer us some good tips regarding other bars to visit in the area. On the balance of things I would advise fat people, sensitive people or anyone dressed like Biggie Smalls circa 1992 against visiting in case they are also met with a severe joshing.

Lunch was great

By Adam B |

My wife and i stopped in here for lunch on saturday. The bloody mary was very good, and the food was excellent. We sat outside and people watched for a few hours on an Always Sunny fall day. Definatly reccomend this spot for a drink and a sandwitch.

Can't go wrong with a pub

By Matt P |

Stopped in for a quick IPA and Guinness, always searching for a good pub during travels. Not a traditional pub but definitely a nice place for a pint and Lindsey the bartender was on the spot and extremely friendly. Excellent selection of draft and bottled beer.

Great Fries

By Jan M |

Visited with husband & son, good selection of drinks. Chicken wraps & cheese steak were all good, but loved the fries - potatoes cut with their skins on, fresh & crisply cooked. Good spot for quick, informal lunch stop.

I just had to go in

By Tom F |

As a fan of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia I felt I had to drink in this establishment. Don't expect it to be like Paddy's Pub. I had an hour or two to kill before meeting a friend so I went in. The choice in beer was brilliant, the barmaid was very friendly and helpful. It's the sort of place I love visiting when I'm over in the States

Great neighborhood bar

By Catherine M |

When you are looking for something a little bit more chill, with a "Cheers" kind of feeling, head to Mac's. It is the only bar in Old City that is mellow and a guaranteed hit everytime with their great draft list and kick a$$ food. I enjoy their Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, and nothing tastes better than a Yards Philadelphia Pale Ale to pair with it. Plus there is all Philadelphia sketchings all over the walls. Perfect place to see the game or watch Don McClosky play,

Great atmosphere & beer!

By NickBr0 |

We arrived here for a drink around 4:30 on a Friday (happy hour) and it was a bit quiet but still a great vibe. Things picked up around 5:30/6 with the after work crowd and the place was a lot of fun. Very helpful bartenders (they even give you a taste of the beer before you order it). The draft system was great, they must be ever changing the kegs and so they are updating the list frequently. Would be a great place for drinks with friends, especially for those who are fans of Always Sunny and craft beers.

Seasonal Goodness

By M S |

On a Saturday night, wet and cold stopped in because of other travelers reviews. Mostly 30 something crowd enjoying the drinks. Asked for a menu as most patrons were not eating. They had a seasonal listing which showed me they have a flexible and creative chef. My wife and I split a warm beet salad with candied pecans and the roast pork sandwich. Perfect. Would go back. Good service and good meal.

Not impressed. Dark and food ok !

By SimonJRex |

Wasn't impressed with Macs ! Food was just about warm rather than hot. Wonder then how the wings were cooked or are they reheated at lunch ? Anyway - maybe at night it's better and busier but won't be trying again.

Good beer selection

By Bunk |

Popped in for a drink in the afternoon. Good selection of craft beers, without being extensive, staff were friendly and attentive. All in all ticked every box needed.

Nice cosy pub

By Linz |

My husband and i popped in here out of the cold snow storm for lunch. The burger was amazing and the fries were really good, not like iv tasted before! The staff were very welcoming and polite. Cant fault it atall

It was all Sunny!

By Slam2u2 |

Went to Mac's on a whim and very happy we did. Great location in Philly for one, so much to do and experience down there. One bar after another and right near all the historic sights. Mac's is a small place with a great looking bar, great beer selection and drink specials. Hubby had a club sandwich that was unlike any he had before. Real sliced turkey on a bun with special mayo and all the fixins. It was really good. I had fish tacos and they were excellent. We did enjoy what we ordered and would try something new next time.

Very Good Food

By Michael O |

I went here with a friend who was a big fan of Always Sunny. I was not as familiar with the show, but I do know the crab cake burger I ordered was incredible and one of the best one I have had! The service was very good and they also have a solid beer selection. I can't wait to come back, and recommend it to anyone in the area.

Awesome find in Sunny Philadelphia!!

By Bobbie Baeder |

Our future son-in-law and our daughter were visiting from Oregon and this restaurant was the top of his list to visit as he always watches the show. It was very conveniently located close to the tourist spots. It has a cozy neighborhood bar feeling with great pictures on the wall. My choice of drink was a Bloody Mary as I'm not much for beer. It was one of the best bloody Mary's I have ever had...perfectly hot and full of flavor with 3supersiized olives. The others had beer and Mimosas. I opted for the chicken cheesesteak and it was delicious with tasty chinks of chicken with cheese and sauce. My husband had a burger with fried egg..also a hit. The other dishes were a steak sandwich and a burger. The fries were awesome and fresh. The portions were very generous and all of us were very pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. The staff was very friendly and service was excellent.

Great food, great atmosphere

By Michelle M |

My family stopped by here for lunch today. They were so accommodating to the 15 of us. The wait staff was awesome and the food selection was great! Everyone loved what they got! Definitely stop here if you are in the area!

Hidden gem

By Steelangel |

My son, being a fan of Always Sunny, wanted to eat here. I called to verify their hours and got a very noncommittal answer. We found our way, and the place does not look like much of anything. We ordered dinner....and OMG. Everything that we got was delicious! Even the fries were amazing. This place undersells itself, but it is worth the trip!

Great pub atmosphere

By scottcaps |

We went on the Friday night of Memorial Day weekend. Arrived around 7:00 pm, just after Happy hour ended. Place is small - some small tables along the wall and in the back with barstools along the bar and three small tables on the sidewalk. No tables left for our family of six, but there were six bar stools along the front window with a ledge big enough to put a plate on. Nice night, windows removed, we enjoyed watching the people and cars going by. Kids are okay till 9:00 pm, when it becomes adult only. There is no kids menu, but they do have chicken fingers, fries, burgers. Chicken wings are a bit small, but nice flavor and crispy coating. Baked potato soup is good, but does have beer in it if you like that twang. There was a Phillies game that night, so we watched on the tvs and enjoyed the $2 Yuengling draft ($3 not during games). Pork sandwich was tasty, but I wish I would have ordered it without the brocoli, which tasted great, but was left in long stalks that were hard to bite through on a sandwich. Loved the side of gravy for the fries. Service was great, everyone very friendly. After we ordered our dinners, our waitress let us know the kitchen was backed up with another big party's order. While we were not happy to hear that, we did appreciate her letting us know and she offered us a round of beers for our wait. Big selection of beer, and even a hard cider on tap. When we left around 9:00, the place was beginning to fill with the night crowd. Seemed like a fun place to be for late night.

Good bar for a quick pint

By Nate080411 |

Mac's was a good place for us to swing by when we were looking for a late drink before heading back to the hotel. The prices were right around the average for the rest of the town and it certainly didn't feel very touristy at all. Worth going to for a pint and hopes of seeing one of their famous owners.

Amazing Staff

By TRexArms402 |

I don't understand the hate by some people. My experiences here were nothing but great. Would I have gone here if it was not for being owned by Sweet Dee and Mac from Always Sunny? Honestly, this place probably wouldn't have even been on my radar. But I am sure glad I did make it here. The bar was busy and our server Lisa was a rockstar. That woman busted her rear making sure everyone was taken care of and she talked to everyone and seemed interested in what they were saying. You don't get service like that all the time. Lisa and the bartenders definitely made me a fan of this place. The food was good, the beer was cold, and the atmosphere was perfect.

Tried to eat here but left due to rudeness

By Bonniejean A |

As a vegetarian it is always difficult to find a good place to eat that won't make me sick. My husband had gone next door to "Sonny's" to get his Philly cheese steak while I inquired about eating here. I informed the manager my dietary issues and allergies. We determined there was something I could eat. I was elated to try a new place. I told her that my husband was getting a cheese steak next door and was going to bring it in to join me and eat his cheese steak. I ask if that was alright. She said yes. I proceeded to order my meal and a side of fries for my husband and I to share. When my husband found me, the server rudely told us that he couldn't eat his sandwich there. I had specifically asked if that was alright. The server proceeded to tell me it was not okay. I told her what the manager had said. The server disappeared and came back saying the manager never said that. The manager never bothered to come back out. I was then told I must have misunderstood, but he couldn't eat outside food in their restaurant. I stood up and said fine, I will leave (despite being famished). She said my food was ready and I could take it. I said I didn't want it and I wasn't paying for it since I was being denied a meal with my husband - and quite frankly, how am I supposed to eat fish tacos on the go. Definitely a place to represent the supposed "brotherly love" of Philadelphia. I cannot speak to how good the food actually was because I didn't actually get to eat it. I WILL NEVER VISIT AGAIN.

A place to be on Market Street

By Prawet J |

Mac's is located toward the end of Market St. close to Penn's landing. From what I see, it is the only bar (tavern) that looks like neighborhood bar. They just recently open so all the COVID-19 but the place is nice and the bartender is friendly and helpful. Love it, if I am in the area again, I will definitely visit it again. Note, do not get there before noon because you will not be allowed to go in and you must order a small plate of food if you just want to enjoy your alcohol.

Greeeaaaat beer and food

By Big Red of Boston |

Stopped in for lunch and of course beer and a Philly Cheese Steak. Sat at the bar. Enjoyed the photos from the cast of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. Very good cheese steak.

Great local beer selection with good ambiance

By Patrick M |

Had local beers on tap which was great. Atmosphere was really cool with Philadelphia "legends" plastered all over the walls with the "Always Sunny" cast as well. Did not have food this time around but would definitely come back to try!

Quick stop

By mikestrain |

My son and I made a stop at Mac's Tavern because we are fans of the TV show "Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Mac's is not modeled after the bar on the show, which is a good thing. Mac's is a small place, with good beer and interesting photos. They included images of the stars of the show who had visited and also had an odd but interesting thing framed: A license for prostitution from the late 1800s. We were there on a Friday night and the beer was only $3 for drafts and the service was good. Beer was good and cold. One thing to know: I got a slice of pizza down the street and was going to grab a beer at Mac's and sit at the table on the sidewalk out front. But while I was getting my beer, the table filled up. The bouncer out front told me I couldn't eat the pizza and drink the beer standing on the sidewalk. Only could do that at a table. So I couldn't take the pizza inside or take the beer outside. As he called it: A lose-lose situation. He was nice about it but was a serious rule follower.

Great Atmosphere, Friendly Staff.

By Lucy W |

As a huge fan of It's always Sunny.. visiting Mac's Tavern was a must while in Philly. We nipped in for a quick pint, which ended up being more like 8 pints a meal and an accumulation of new friends to show us round the city. The atmosphere was really relaxed and friendly, from the bar staff and the other customers. Highly recommended.

A hit and a miss

By Travel_Buff_BL |

I stopped by because I really liked the look of the place and the servers were friendly. But they had no white wine. So I left and went elsewhere. A pub with no white wine!??

Fine for a quick stop off

By Paul W |

Hot day pooped in to cool off lunch time for a couple of drinks. Bar staff pleasant had wings and fries shared between two, selection of beer OK. Place is fine to break up the day don’t expect anything flashy

Quick lunch

By Darlene H |

We stopped in for a quick lunch. We got a cold beer and sandwiches. We ordered beef steak sandwiches and a salad with no bun. The chef was thoughtful to put the beef in a bowl as to not mix with the salad. It was all very tasty. The waitress was very friendly, and attentive. We had a nice conversation too.

Typical pub fare in great Philly location

By IowaTravelFan |

Went to Mac's for dinner after a long day of travel. It was kind of busy but we were on the late side of the after work-dinner crowd. Staff was accommodating but not overly welcoming. Could have cared less if we were there. Ordered burgers which were good. French fries were some of the best we've had - crispy with skin on. Bartender was very loud with some patrons sharing personal information we did not care to know about. Profanity was commonly heard throughout our visit from patrons and bartender. Good selection of beers. Its location on Market between 2nd and 3rd makes it a great stop when sightseeing.

Visitors from Australia

By nigels757 |

Had dinner here on our trip in the US from Australia. Come home and check my credit card and the restaurant added an additional $11 on the charges - even though we authorised a tip of 15% already. Have all the receipts and my bank is investigating. They are simply fraudsters. Served by Quentin, order # 54474 on 20 Oct.

Friendly neighborhood tavern

By sonnecj |

Not to noisy but with a pleasant vibe, Mac’s Tavern has a good range of beers and even some cider on tap. Fun stop!

Worst Service... Ever time

By sundown220 |

bartenders are ALWAYS rude and incredibly slow. they just lollygag behind the bar ignoring everyone. i was there last night and the place was practically dead, still took 5 minutes of hanging at the bar to get a beer. whats crazy to me is that all the bartenders are like. who is running this place? they must just hire all there assh0le friends instead of real industry people. positive note: Sonnys is right next store and there cheesesteaks are legit.

Drinks were good!

By 46oceangirl |

We went her to eat but the waitstaff/bar staff was thin and took a bit to get their attention so we at that point said lets just do drinks, the beers were good and the bartender made me a sidecar, very good, very small but still good. Its an old tavern and the people in the booths had dinner, their dishes looked great. Too bad the service at the bar was a bit slow. I'd go back though, food looked awesome. I'd also go back for a drink as well. Old, dark, rustic, great bar, loved the vibe in there and we weren't in a rush so it wasn't bad.

Great vibe and fantastic food!

By izzy312014 |

Im a huge fan of It's Always Sunny-so insisted we went here when we visited Philly. The bar is great-and has a really nicve relaxed vibe about it. I had the skillet Mac and Cheese and it was the tastiest Mac and Cheese I have ever had!! They were also doing Mimosas for $5 which came in very generous glasses! Overall a great little bar-would highly recommend! The only downside was that Rob himself wasn't there-can't blame a tourist for hoping he might be there for a cheeky photograph! ;)

Amazing wings

By TrickyGrayson |

I'm not usually a wing kind of girl, but the wings at Mac's Tavern make me want to drive the two hours to Philly just to eat there again. We got the barbecue wings and two weeks later I'm still thinking about them. We got there late right before the kitchen was about to close, and while the waitress did seem tired and distracted, she accommodated us very nicely and we had a wonderful meal. I'm definitely going back in the future.

Delicious

Excellent food. The hand cut fries were delicious! And a great selection of beer. Y vegan daughter found something to eat here. Would definitely recommend this place! The hours are wrong listed here.

Mac's

Even if you're not a fan of Sunny this is still a must. Great, friendly staff with absolutely incredible food. Get the cheese steak, it will change your life. Music was great too! Awesome atmosphere with little Sunny inspired hidden references around the tavern. Project bada**!

Awesome bar with great atmosphere

By Daniel Wood |

My wife and I had a day trip to Philadelphia from New York and before catching the train back, needed some easy food and fancied a drink. We had heard about Mac's Tavern online being fans of Always Sunny, so decided to give it a try. It is a fantastic little bar with no thrills, but good food, good beer, a good atmosphere, and even better service. The food menu seemed to be a range of typical American dishes and there was a good range of beers for a small bar. There was only one person working at the time but he was incredibly attentive and friendly. Perfect bar to visit for an easy food option and a relaxed drink (for fellow Brits, this was about the closest thing to a pub that we visited).

Good lunch near liberty bell

Used trip advisor to find a lunch spot near Independence Hall. Mac's had good food and a good beer selection. Definitely a great experience for lunch.

Not worth your time

If I could give it a 0 I would!! Horrible service! We sat for 10 minutes with no help from either of the waitresses. I guess we weren’t as interesting as the guys at the bar. Atmosphere looked nice and food sounded good but I’ll never be back to find out.

Triple Threat Burger... Triple Bet We'll Be Back!

Found this gem while taking a Independence Walking Tour. We went in to grab a beer and a bite to eat and could not be more pleased. Nice atmosphere, prompt seating by the staff, was quick and courteous to take our drink order. Good selection of beers on tap... I believe there were 17 to choose from that day. Peering at the menu saw the Triple Threat Burger and new that was right up our alley. The burger was the bomb! Cooked to perfection and so tasty. And the fries... good portion and were truly amazing especially the side of sauce they came with. Highly Recommend. Kudos to the staff and the chef. Triple bet we'll be back!!!!!

Not always sunny in philadelphia

We went here because of my son's love of the TV show. Disappointingly quiet, but perfectly acceptable fare. Probably a better bar than eatery. A touch expensive for what it was (burgers/ribs etc).

you have to stop in if you're a fan

We couldn't get to any of the It's Always Sunny's locations, but stopping at Mac's Tavern made me feel like at least did something related to the show.

Great Bar Comfort Food

By Jen D |

Wandering around, looking for a place for dinner and we stumbled into this place (during a Notre Dame game which apparently is a huge deal for this place). Great feel for a neighborhood bar. Highly recommend the gravy fries and the skillet mac and cheese: ultimate comfort food. Husband had the brisket burger too which was awesome. The atmosphere was homey, the value was great, and food delicious. Can't ask for more!

After work stop

My wife recently accepted a job in Old City and we decided to try a few bars after a long day at work. We decided to give Macs Tavern a try and glad we did. Friendly bartenders, a great selection of craft and domestic beers and really good food. Nice Happy Hour and a great location for people watching!

Loved it

I want to move to Philadelphia just so I could be a regular at the pub. The staff was very friendly and made you feel welcome. Engaging and fun place to spend the afternoon. Food was good better then most pub food and the beer was great. I would go back in a second and totally recommend this pub
