Great food and great prices. Especially great when you need a pick-me-upper on a bad day, or during a hangover. The only thing is that because the place is so popular, they placed the seats so close to one another in order to maximize space. And then it can get really noisy when crowded.

decent, cheap thai food. need i say more? beware the slow service.

Stopped in here with my son during a college trip to UT. This place is right on the Drag (Guadalupe Street), and so gets plenty of college kids in. Parking is nearly impossible in the area, you really have to plan ahead to get there. The service was OK, a little slow, even though the place wasn't fully packed...some people who came in after us were served before us, etc. But, friendly waiters, excellent food, and a really wide variety on the menu. This place is definitely "on the list."

Hmm, bad reviews for some reason. You go to a restaurant to eat good food, thats exactly what u get here. Cheap too, enough said.

We've eaten at Madam Mam's south location - and the food there was good. It's even better here!! Fresh ingredients, nice atmosphere, good waitstaff. Very good and enjoyable meals.

Good Thai food, and my Thai friends really dig it.

So tried a local college hangout. Extensive menu moderate prices, college kids are not rich afterall. Staff was friendly, place was clean. Located downtown across campus lots of visuals. People are interesting in Austin. Lots of specials, lots to pick from. Ordered the beef combination soup, ns4, great flavor lots of meat. Added spice and lemon HEAVEN, slurped it all. The fried rolls were decent. If you want to enjoy the scenery and reminisce about those college days a must stop. If you want great food at great prices also a must stop.

This place was a nice hole in the wall restaurant. Pretty busy but not packed for a Friday night visit. The portions are great. If you are interested in trying more that one dish, bring some friends and share each plate family style. The ordering process was kind of slow, but the food came out really quickly. Try the fried spring rolls, they really hit the spot.

Very low key noodle house, a favorite amongst those in a budget and not. Madam Mam's serves flavorful and satisfying noodle bowls. Ty the yellow curri, a true winner.

This place was recommended by some at the nearby hostel. It was just what I wanted. The service was fast. The food was good. Noodles had lots of flavor. My girlfriend and I came back the next day.

Great food but horrible service

Average to slightly above average typical Americanized Thai food. Nothing that made me say "wow." Quality ingredients. Nice staff and clean. No lunch specials. Overpriced in my opinion.

This was one of my favorite restaurants while in Law School. It certainly did away with the monotony and offered great dishes. The place per se is a bit on the crowded side. The restaurant isn't as fancy looking, but the flavors outdo anything you would need. One meal at Madam Mam's and you were fed all day long.

Had the pad thai with fried tofu and Thai tea. Excellent!

Visiting UT with our son and grabbed dinner here on a cold night. The place was obviously popular with the local students. My wife loves Thai food and she is an adventurous eater and with the recommendation of the waiter we ordered a soup noodle, curry and chicken with saffron rice. I think we went 0 for 3 on our orders - my curry beef was way too strong for my taste, with big chunks of beef and potato and onion in a not appealing looking dark curry sauce. My wife's soup noodle was nothing special but rice noodle with a bit of seafood in tom yum soup. My daughter ate mostly rice and struggled to eat the chicken smothered with curry. The service is courteous and others seem to do okay with their food. I think we need something a bit more Americanized.

In all it is okay but you can bet it will be the same okay at all the different locations, consistancy has its place. Sometimes you just want pretty good food you can count on. I always laugh with whomever i am having lunch with and say this is like they cloned my Gereral Tso's chicken from the House of Lee in Temple when I was a teenager and served it here. LOL

call ahead though. the wait can be forever.

This is bar none, my favorite resturaunt in Austin. I get the P13- the Moo Gauy Paw or the beef Pad Tai. Both are good and both are extremly cheap. Definately try this great place.

Delicious and fun, love the parasol covered ceiling! Service was slow, but accurate - I think our server was new and covering several tables.I had a red curry dish highlighted by pineapple - so good! My husband had a spicy catfish - 4 pepper alarm that we should have taken more seriously - next time we will see if we can take the heat down!

Absolutely delicious and spicy just what I like! I came here for the drunken noodles which were fantastic! Beats the other Thai places in town.

This has been my go-to Thai restaurant in Austin since I was a wee little Longhorn back in 2000. I cannot say enough good things about the food - all of it is extremely flavorful, and you cannot beat the prices for what you get.

I haven't eaten enough Thai to say with authority when it's great, but I can tell you when it's good vs mediocre or bad. This place is good and the price is right. Probably not a better quality to price ration for Thai in Austin. I prefer the Westgate location

Delicious pad thai! all the curries i've had are really tasty as well! the menu is ridiculously huge!

Healthy portions, nicely spiced, and varied selection. Service is always friendly and efficient. Well worth the visit.

Some of the best thai food I have ever eaten!!

Everyone I know has to get a regular dose of Madam Mam's. It always makes a bad day better. The menu is huge and the food is very good. The seating is tight especially at the Guadalupe location where there is no "personal space" to carry on a conversation. The Westgate location is more comfortable and the food is just as good.

forget mams and hit up tiah kitchen just down the street

Full disclosure, I do not eat Thai food much, so take this review accordingly. This strip mall restaurant seems to do more takeout than sit-down dining. Our group generally enjoyed the food, but the place is a bit run down. Very nice waiter, but it was weird how he did not even offer that they had a beer and wine choices until we asked. It is probably good to bring more than two drink menus for a table of 12! Not a bad place, but nothing memorable either.

Mam's has been a favorite with UT students for several years now. Look no further for spicy Thai curries, stir-fries and noodles.

I was visiting Austin University. I was brought here for lunch by a friend. I ordered a beef special curry with rice. It was the best beef curry I have every eaten at a Thai restaurant and I have visited some extremely expensive Thai restaurants. The prices were extremely good, as was the service. I can't wait to go back to Austin to eat here again. Interior is simple. Doesn't need to be fancy. Its the food we care about.

My wife has wanted to try some Thai food. We heard some people saying that Madam Mam's isn't quite 'authentic' Thai - but ... we wouldn't know the difference. She had a noodle dish - with shrimp and I had a rice dish with chicken. (We picked ones with low spice). The service was quick, friendly and the food was good!!! So ... on the list of places we'll probably go back to someday

Thai perfection!

Tried it for an early dinner with my daughter. Very good service. Huge portions and excellent flavors on our limited menu sampling. Have to try it again. Casual spot on Guadalupe.

Don't expect much from this low cost Thai diner. Aged, low cost decor and dishes. Pleasant but unexceptional service. Food very mediocre. Great for a cheap filling meal for a college student.

I go to Madam Mams all the time. At least once a week. I have never once had good, attentive service. I usually order my food to go because the food is so good, but the service is so bad and slow. It seems like the servers have huge sections, but also they like to stand around. Also, the menu is overwhelming and they don't do any substitutions. I would much rather have fewer options with substitutions.

Dine in 9/6/21. Arriving about one hour before closing. Two appetizers, three entree's ordered. Waited a while for food to show, which arrived at different times. He tells us it is now 9:46 and we close at 9:45, you have to sign the check and leave. We were not completely done with our meals. I said that is weird. He said What? In a confrontational tone. I said weird. It will reflect in the tip. He said we are a hard line place (?). Food was good for the price. In all my years of dining out, I have never been asked to leave a restaurant before we were finished with our meals.

super affordable with tasty left overs

Busy and noisy but the food is delicious and carefully prepared. Very extensive menu and large portions. The atmosphere is colorful especially all the parasols that cover from the ceiling. The service is great too.

Came here with family on a Saturday night and not crowded at all. Great food and good service. I thought the staff was friendly. They're Asian and not you're typical chatty Texans who will ask you about your day, comment on the weather or make 10 recommendations. They silently take your order and deliver. They checked on us a few times. No issues with service. Ordered: chicken and shrimp satay, Tiger Cry, goong ob won sen, stir fried bean sprouts with pork and sticky rice with egg custard. Highly recommend tiger cry steak and going ob (glass noodles with shrimp and bacon)!! The sticky rice with egg custard was not my favorite here. I like really smooth custard. I highly recommend and come here at least once every 4-6 months. I don't live close or I might go more often. Pros: variety, price, portions, atmosphere Cons: parking lot is shared with busy movie theater so it can be tight. Desserts were just ok.

Their yellow curry is absolutely to die for. I crave it.

Food and service were both great. We originally wanted to eat at titayas but unfortunately it is still closed for renovations. That is by far the best Thai food in Austin. But madam mams was a good second choice. First time eating there and the waiter helped us pick our entrees which was nice. The bankrupt noodles were tasty and had just enough kick. And the fried egg rolls were a delicious appetizer. Overall a nice place to eat and I will be returning.

I had heard rave reviews about this place from multiple so I decided to give it a try. The menu has quite a large selection. My main item (can't remember the name of it as it had a Thai name) had chicken, a special type of sauce, and a green spice that seemed old and mushy. It also came with white rice that was on the place in the shape of a white snowball. The atmosphere was ok and the place is a bit over priced for the quality of their food in my opinion. Aagin, there were numerous options on the menu so it is very possible that many are very good. So, despite my "just ok" experience I would still recommend trying it out.

Great food at reasonable price. Service is usually par excellence. Just one incident, on a Friday night, when there was a mix up between the two hosts in seating us, my wife and I, on a table of 4 with a view. We were asked to move inwards to a table of 2 to accomodate a party of 4 that came after us (and it was closing time). It was wrong on many counts, but we love the food :) So we hung around and swallowed our ego ;)

As in the title we ate at the 26th Street location. They were busy as always the food was excellent our servers were pleasant and our portions were huge.

Madam Mams is one of the best Thai places I have been to. I went to their north location, which is their newest and nicest location by far. I had their Chicken Pad Thai, which was so delicious, anyone who goes there has to try that at some point. It can be made as spicy or as mild as you want. Not knowing how hot things got, I ordered one chili pepper out of five and it came just way too hot, but they very nicely took back my order and remade it so that it was not so spicy. They were great! I also tried some of my fiance´s gareen(sp) curry(which is actually yellow curry) and that was just as good. Anyone who likes thai and is visiting Austin should surely check it out.

Sometimes inconsistent, some dishes are flavorless, when you find a good one though it's killer.

We were staying at the hotel across the street and decided to get take out. It can in styrofoam, which is always disappointing, and has no utensils or napkins which made eating I'm our room a challenge. I ordered the pad-se-ew, which tasted nothing like pad-se-ew. It had a really burnt taste and no sweetness. Also, it has large (bigger than bite sized) raw stalks of broccoli (no florets). They were to large and hard to even try to eat. I ended up having to throw the meal away, which was sad... 😞😢

I love this place..cheap and very good.

My co-workers love Madam Mam's. I've tried a few things on the menu and it's a bit oily for my taste, good aside.

Food was excellent, especially the sauces. Service also very good. Recommend highly. Seems to be very popular for lunch, so might help to get there a bit early.

Two locations in Austin both serve the best tjai food, awesome selection and lots of good Thai spice! Usually have the currys but this time had the green bean salad, it was wonderful!

The food here is pretty good. The location is what makes it even better. From the Drag, it's at the intersection of Guadalupe and 26th.

P1 and P3 are deliciouso!

I love their pad thai and their decor. I've love how they also sell some crafty jewelry and handmade items. I purchased a hand-painted parasol from here. The eggrolls and springrolls are delicious and the staff is very respectiful, and courteous.

Great authentic Thai food. Priced for the college kids nearby. This place is a hidden gem to get your thai fix on.

I've eaten here a handful of times for lunch, alternating between the pad thai and spicy curry dishes. Always tasty and the service has been good. Right across the parking lot from Alamo Drafthouse, making it an easy target for a meal if you're feeling Thai!

This is our friday night ritual. Now that we have a baby, Madam Mam's take out every friday. It never disapoints!

This was my first time coming to Madam Mam's and I'll admit I had trouble finding the place. It was easy to find their sign on Anderson, but then finding the restaurant itself was more difficult,. I wandered on foot for 10-15 minutes around the complex. Once inside, I was happy to find a very pleasant decor and friendly staff. The menu was very large---more extensive than any other Thai restaurant I've visited---and somewhat difficult to navigate. I had trouble identifying the vegetarian options, as their veggie symbol was only on dishes that were always vegetarian, and not present on those with tofu options. Food was delicious, though, and I had a doggy bag to take home for breakfast.

Loves it!

EXCELLENT DISHES are served here I don't live far from the madam mams at Hill country galleria my favorite are the eggrolls are totally amazing with curry dishes............... I recommend but I eat here at least 4 times a month. They serve wine and teas for beverages and some of the dishes are spicy but let them know you can;t handle very hot food if you don't want a very hot dish they put jalapinos in some of the dishes they serve. but incredibly good seriously this is one of my favorite places to eatand.there is aways enough food to take home as well.

Been a few years since I went to Madam Mams on the drag...menu is great, all the food was hot and delicious, except the lively Spring Rolls, cool and crunchy! Recommend!

I've been eating at Madam Mam's for almost 8 years. I've probably eaten 40 of their dishes, and I've never been disappointed with my choice. If you like super spicy Thai food (which I do), there are a number of options. Their pepper ratings aren't always accurate (there's a particularly brutal 2 pepper dish), but that's half the fun. Despite being swamped with customers at lunch time, I've always gotten really good service. I love this place, and don't plan on ever stopping my trips to Mam's for lunch.

Every time I'm in Austin, I try to grab a meal here. I like that I can find something different on the menu each time. This time, I tris the tom yum soup- I didn't like it. It was too sour for my taste and usually Tom yum is not sour. I tried the salmon and and a catfish dish. Both were spicy ( esp. The catfish dish), but very flavorful. In my experiences, they take too long to bring the food out (even appetizers). Also, parking is hellish. But I will definitely go back.

This is a good cheap place to go for something different. The service is business like, and quick. They have a huge menu. It's nice that you can get sides of sauces so you can try other flavors. I love their roasted chili oil, so hot.

Very good thai food at surprisingly cheap prices.

cheap but good Tai food near UT

Great ambience. Loved the crab fried rice and Pad Thai noodles. Got some chicken satay and Madam Mam's Fried chicken wings with different sauces for appetizers. Portions were generous. Plus don't forget to try their sweet stick rice with mango for dessert and Thai iced tea.

The food was really good. I felt like the portions weren't as big for the curry as other places we have been too. The plate for noddles were large. The curry options though are a good amount and they all sounded so good, it was so hard to choose. The curry plate itself was really good and really really spicey. I wasn't given a level of hotness so just FYI. We will happily come back here.

Ordered from the Village location because it was close. Doing take-out, I cannot comment on in restaurant service. Ordering online was simple, and the order was ready promptly, ready when I arrived to pick-up. Food was not spectacular but very good considering the price and that it was take out,

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't find much about this place appealing. Perhaps it's very authentic. Honestly, I wouldn't know the difference having very little experience with Thai cuisine. What I have eaten elsewhere, I liked better than what I had here. The coconut soup entree I had was overly sweet, lacked spice and was just ok. The shrimp spring rolls were pretty good with the peanut sauce. I think I chose poorly because I would have liked the curries more than likely, but I was craving coconut soup.

One of the best Thai places ive found in Austin

I always went here back in college. Great, cheap and quick. I was just a few blocks away and always in there so they got to know my order by heart! I suggest either the panang curry or pad thai. Service can be a tad slow when the restaurant is full, but I can't blame them too much for that when the food is so great.

I just did not like the food here - and I love Thai food. When we first arrived, we were seated at a table that was dirty. Apparently the server didn't notice, so I pointed out one particular area to her and asked if she could clean the table. Well, she went and got a rag and cleaned just that spot. It just struck me as rather lazy - the whole table clearly (at least to me) needed a wipe down. And if a customer asks if you can wipe the table - why not wipe the whole thing? I mean, it's not that big?? I ignored some of the other offending spots hoping for good food. I ended up being disappointed. I had vegetable springrolls that were unremarkable as was the peanut sauce it came with. I then had tofu pad thai that was not good at all. The sauce was not typical pad thai sauce, too spicy and not enough "sweet." It was just lackluster and bland. My two dining partners did not enjoy their meals much either. I will not be going back. My friends had not ever had Thai food, so I was embarrassed to have brought them here for their first taste.

The location at Guadalupe has the university vibe, and the South one off Hwy 71 next to Central Market is a traditional setting. The wait staff is always charming there. The new location at the Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave is more metropolitan with a newer, more upscale decor with vibrant splashes of colors, throw pillows in the booths and is more romantic. Unlike the other locations, this one has a small bar, and it is nicely divided from the dinning room with an interesting light wood wall sculpture. Nice restrooms with attention paid to small details. The same great food as the other locations, and I have to say I was very impressed with the decor.

Wide variety of tastes and spice levels. Excellent service. Comfortable atmosphere. Well priced. Something for every diet, from those who avoid meat to those to crave it. Seafood, too.

I ate here once before and wasn't overly impressed but thought I'd give it a second chance. Bad idea. We stopped in for lunch the last week of December. Very slow time, it's near the Univ. and school is out this week. Nearly every table was empty. The owner we assume by the looks/age/attitude pushed the waiter practically towards us and he tried to seat us at a very small table. We knew this was not going to work as we planned to share a few dishes and there was barely room for one so we tried to stop him but he was on a mission. We stood by a different table and looked at them to get the "okay." The woman was shaking her head no dramatically and pointing to her seating arrangement telling the waiter what to do. He came over and we said, we would like a larger table. He said "that table is reserved" pointing to the one we were near. We looked around and said "how about that one, or that one maybe?" and he said "no, those are reserved." We said if we cannot be seated at a better table we are leaving and once again asked if any of the other tables were available. He just shook his head. So, we left and said no thanks we can find many better options for lunch. I will never go back, even though it is in walking distance.

Edging up in price. Good Pad Thai.

I ordered the rice with pineapple with shrimp. It tasted fresh but I was not impressed. The food was blend. The rest of the party ordered curry plates and they were better. Next time, I will order the Curry soup with chicken or something like that.

Took son and roommate to dinner. Service was quick and the menu is rather thick! The Thai Omelet is made with five eggs, along with a choice of meal and veggies. Do recommend getting. Thai beef stew was wonderful, along with the chicken in rice noodles. We shall return!

Not quite what it's chocked up to be, perhaps you will be happy if you go in with low expectations. Warm sticky rice with mango had underripe fruit, only semi-sticky rice, and was served luke warm.

This is a full service Thai restaurant in a modern setting with traditional decor touches. The property was clean and parking plentiful and free. Patrons are seated by a hostess then receive table service. The menu is extensive (several pages) and offers thorough descriptions of each dish, along with an alphanumeric code for those who choose not to attempt pronouncing the traditional names. We chose four different entrees including a rice dish, a stir fry, a curry and another traditional Thai offering. Everyone was very pleased with the flavor and presentation of their respective dish. Potions were generous (the curry was enough for two easily), the food was hot, well seasoned and fresh tasting. Service was very friendly and polite. Special requests were addressed promptly and with a smile, and we never lacked for refills, something frequently lacking in Asian restaurants. Coke products are served, however we did not try anything more adult so cannot address their beer/wine/mixed drink offerings. To summarize: great food, great service, and a nice setting. Did I mention the prices were very reasonable? Entrees were $10-$15 for the majority, which we felt was a steal. Our new Thai favorite!

I only ate here once, so I can't speak on their consistency, but I thought it was great Thai food! The menu is very large and overwhelming, but it also means there are many options and everyone is bound to find something appetizing. As for food, we ordered egg rolls, pad sea ew, and one of the curries but I don't remember which. The egg rolls were amazing! I usually don't like egg rolls, but they were very well made and came with a delicious dipping sauce. We both enjoyed our main courses, but they were very large so we probably could have just shared one. I thought the service was very good, our waitress was really nice and brought everything quickly. Being on Guadalupe, it's in a very convenient place. Overall, I have no complaints about Madam Mam's and will definitely be going back!

Previously, the best Thai Food I ever had was at a restaurant in Dallas called Royal Thai. Indeed, I've seen it listed as one of the 10 best Thai restaurants in the US. Now, there's another one that needs to be noticed. Madame Mam's is just as good as Royal Thai which is really saying a lot. But in addition, they have a home made chili paste that's out of this world good. It's not like any paste I've ever had. Kind of like chilies put into a food processor with spices and very little oil so it doesn't spread, it stays kind of chunky. It's seriously the best hot sauce I've ever had and I wish I knew how to make it. Perhaps they'll tell me. The food is also excellent. I had the fish cakes and Pad Thai which were both really good. It's so funny that such good Thai restaurants exist in TX where one would usually think BBQ.

Everything is fresh, hot and tasty, just like the madam says it should be. The bean thread noodles are delightful. Try them instead of traditional noodles. You'll be glad you did.

So much to choose from, I used to come here for dinner with a friend and try something different every time. Food is good and I was never dissatisfied with it. Looking forward to come back again other times!

When I lived in Austin, I ate at the Guadalupe location all of the time (at least twice a week). By far my favorite Thai restaurant in Austin. Due to the location, this place was always packed. They've moved up the street to a new location. The space is much nicer, plus they've added a bar. The crowds are smaller. I hope this location change doesn't hurt business. It's the only restaurant I eat at EVERY time I return to Austin.

My Longhorn son spends a lot of my $ at Madam Mam's buying fried rice. When I walked in I wasn't really expecting much based on the ambience (modern college student). I was very pleasantly surprised. I had a vegetarian stir fry and it was excellent. Allergen alert: a lot of dishes have fish sauce.

This was the first Thai restaurant I tried and I quickly fell in love with it!

Not a high dollar classy restaurant, but a really good tasty curry. Great for lunch. The one down south is now called "Sap's" as a result of a divorce from the Madam and Sap, but it hasn't changed. The hottest item, the jungle curry, is so hot you won't taste anything so try something milder.

Some of the best Thai food I've had. I always make a point to go here when I visit Austin. The service is always quick and pleasant.

I have never tasted Pad Kee Mow more perfect. I would eat at Madam Mam's every day if I wasn't already fat.

BEST THAI FOOD!!!! Love this place!!

Very good food, friendly service. I usually have them add veggies to my meals, and they always accomodate, no issues. Really flavorful dishes (I usually get panang curry, but have also gotten pad thai and pad kee mow, my husband usually gets a spicy fish dish - tilapia or catfish or shrimp), and you don't usually have to wait for a table, although it's often busy. The fish tank is fun for kids to explore.

meh. there's way better tai places in the area.

Horrible, spoiled food tossed onto a plate. Combative, rude staff. I would hate to see the health code score on this place. Such a terrible experience I was waiting for the hidden cameras to pop out. Avoid at all costs. There are three other Thai places within five blocks of here.

I stopped here for an early dinner with a friend who works at UT on my last visit to Austin. This place has a very extensive menu and several choices that I desired. I settled on a bowl with bean thread noodles, ground pork, pork slices, pork broth, fish balls, and imitation crab. It was rated 4 peppers on the heat index and did not disappoint. It was very good and a large serving but too much of the same thing and got old. I wish they had a buffet.

this is what thai food would taste like if Mc Donald's started serving it. LOL woof!
Everyone raves about this place as the best Thai they've ever had. I. just. don't. get. it. It's not *bad*, but...
Everyone raves about this place as the best Thai they've ever had. I. just. don't. get. it. It's not *bad*, but there's better. Maybe not in Austin, tho.
