Worst Food and Horrible Service.

By juniorbansal |

Worst food and horrible service.Don’t go there.we went there based on hype (also we were coming back to Austin from concan) and it was a disaster. I wish their new austin branch will fail in epic fashion.we waited for 1 hour and once the food started arriving it tasted bad and smelled stale. When we tried to bring up our concern, we were “advised” to be calm and enjoy the food. No corrective action was taken?. What a serious waste of money and time?

Great South Indian cuisine!

By ErgotAlkaloid |

I wasn't familiar with Southern Indian food, I really enjoy Indian food but this was different from what I'm used to. We were there on a slower night so we were able to get a lot of good information from the staff about what dishes were their specialties. We ordered what they suggested and it was all delicious, unfortunately I don't remember the names of our dishes but will be going back to try round of new items as soon as we can.

Worst service and attitude of staff

We treat people right, and that's what makes new guests feel welcome, and regulars feel right at home. what a joke!!! no concept of service. the restaurant gives water bottle at room temperature. they cannot afford to put a cooler / fridge to cool the bottles!! they charge 50 cent per bottle. they cannot afford a water filter!!! we ordered two dishes, one came after 4 reminders!! the ACcis down from Father's Day and owners can't get it fixed!!!

Delicious Thali for lunch

By Samuel P |

We were recommended Madurai Mes by one of our close family friends. It surely lived upto our expectations and then some more. So, we went for lunch Thali which had ample non-vegetarian (Chicken, Mutton and Fish) with the usual veg (Sambar, Rasam and mint rice) all topped up by a sweet laddu. We loved that the food was made in an authentic Madurai style and each of the items was tasty and we just loved them all. Needless to say, but we are going to pay it forward and highly recommend it to our friends in San Antonio.

Excellent South Indian food & great service

My wife & I dined at Madurai Mes based on suggestions from friends. I ordered the South Indian Vegetarian Thali which was very authentic & delicious. My wife ordered the Bombay non veg thali. Where the North Indian dishe were sub par. The naan was loaded with butter & greasy. The next day I tried the Masala Dosai which was excellent. I was eying the Indian desert Mysore Pak and the owner gave me a compliment. box of 5 and wouldn’t let me pay for it - that’s outstanding service. I would definitely go back. Thanks

Food was not bad

Went with family on a busy Sunday evening. Place was too crowded. Service was not good. We didnt get our food in one go, each person got food after every 10 mins. So we ended spending there for 2 hours overall. Didnt felt like had dinner together. Food was ok. Not that great if you compare the time we spent.

Yumm....

Good spicy Indian food with friendly service. Feels like you’re back in India. The interior is not fancy, but you’re there for the food which is worth it. I’ll be going back again when I visit San Antonio again in October. I’ll be craving their food until then.

Madurai Mes ! Don't Miss it!

From Bay Area, I was visiting San Antonio and came across this place for lunch on my last day. We were in a hurry to start driving all the way to Dallas back and catch the night flight. We notified the cashier and asked to help with quick service. We got seated quickly and they tried their best to deliver it faster. I tried the Non Veg thali meals. Wow that was one good spicy authentic South Indian Meal. Non-South-Indians may have to request to tone the spice level down. Wish we had found this place earlier. Highly recommend for a good south Indian spicy meal. Definitely in my list to visit next time when I travel there.

Indian food with great service

I went with my friends for lunch and had the Kottu Parotha. Wow! Every part of the dish was wonderful. It tasted as if it were made specifically for me. Be very careful when eating it because it is hot. A great spice flavor, but in temperature. I also ate a baby corn dish. Woah! That is the only way I can describe it. The pepper, garlic, onion, ginger and others worked together perfectly. Please be careful. It is busy. Extremely busy, but it is worth the wait. I suggest trying everything. I wish I had 5 stomachs and the ability to eat without consequence. I could be there all day!

Excellent South Indian Food!!!

My husband and I drove from Austin Texas to San Antonio Texas on October 31 to have lunch at Madurai Mes, a restaurant that my husband had been to before during his visits to San Antonio earlier this year. I was apprehensive about eating in during this pandemic but after being reassured by my husband, I entered the restaurant and was relieved to being directed to a table which was clean and had two bottles of water. There was a bottle of hand cleanser nearby. The food we had ordered - Madurai Malli Masala Dosa and a plate of Vada - came within minutes of us being seated. The Dosa and vada were excellent. We did not leave a morsel of food on the plate. We then asked for dessert and were told that they had Payasam prepared just that morning. The semiya payasam was yummy and it came in a huge bowl which was more than enough for two people. On our way out we saw that they had a lot of sweets and savory and yes we bought badusha, karasev, mysore pak besides a box of peanut pakoda. All of them were excellent especially the budusha. The service was excellent and we were very pleased with our visit to this restaurant.

Good food menu for South Indians

The mutton biryani served here is amazing...We placed an order for biryani and were surprised by its taste and the flavors of spices with long grain basmati rice...

Great food and Great Service with smiles.

this was our first visit and we did returned several times as all dishes we ordered were delicious. We were here for dining and required few minutes of wait as we ent on busy time. We recommend anyone who loves Indian Vegetarian food and test of the South Indian dishes. The restaurants menu has huge selection plus Buffett. They also sales snack and Indian Sweets. This is must visit as food was perfectly made and TESTY.

A Jackpot for South Indian Cuisine

By NoinahJaeb |

When all you can get everywhere is North Indian food and you still crave for a South Indian fix, discovering Madurai Mes is a jackpot! We had the Thali Meal, Thosai, Poori, Chicken 65, Egg Podimas, Vadai & Bajis. What a hearty lunch it was. Service was great, Food was even better and continue to satisfy the palette of all those craving for South Indian cuisine!

Pathetic people and service with good food.

Front desk guy is an idiot. We had a horrible experience. Language was rude with pathetic service. He literally shouted on us for a item he never served and charged in bill. After he determined that he didn't serve from his employee, the way he shouted his employees in front of customers was the worst. He finally charged the item to their salary. Pathetic !! Do not go over here. Every person deserves respect.

Perfect South indian cuisine

Great food, reminds me of the Madurai hospitality...idly, veech parota and pongal were awesome..will keep going as and when I visi San Antonio...not to forget their Jigarthanda

Good food but needs improvement in service

By SATravelGrl |

San Antonio sadly lacks good, authentic Indian dining options. Most of the existing restaurants cater primarily to the typical tandoori/tikka/naan North Indian fare. So we were super excited to try this South Indian restaurant. Our first visit was awesome; the food and service were amazing. The jigarthanda drink is a must try. The dishes that we tried were spicy (in a good way) and true to the South Indian flavors. But our second visit was less stellar. The servers are very inexperienced. Our order of just 3 dishes took almost an hour to arrive and needed multiple enquiries and reminders from our side. There was a large dining party in the room and the servers seemed interested only in attending to them. Our waitress who took our order didn't even bother to bring our dishes in time or apologize for the delay. Madurai Mes needs improvement in service if they expect patrons to keep coming back. I really hope they can get their act together (interior and service) because the food is good.

Avoid this place - total greed and worst food taste

By Ashutosh S |

Review is for San Antonio TX-5152 Fredericksburg Rd, San Antonio, TX 78229 This is only for folks who are interested in South Indian food-definitely NOT for north Indian food. I cannot believe that it is having almost 2K reviews and around at an average 4 rating-may be something wrong. Visited 3rd Aug 2025 with family. Ambience is not good - it look like college mess only and nothing more than that. Take quite some time for the order. Strictly closes at 10:00 pm and they don't take any new orders at around 9:45 pm. Place is run on pure greed with the only reason - to make as much money as possible. Gobi Manchurian was not good - even the dry one. Dosa are almost $12 which makes them expensive but not deserving that price. You need to be careful and order masala by paying extra money. Vegetable biryani was also blend and just served with sambhar type vegetable korma(means sambhar and this curry had the same gravy). Chutneys are not good - except salt - don't expect any other taste Worst thing - they don't offer any water - not even plan water and just offer water bottle which customer should pay for(yes very much like Indian restaurant in India where water is not pure and customers have to foot the bill for that bottled water but they just borrowed that from India NOT quality food from India). For each water bottle they charge you half a dollar. On top of that, they charge you a surprise 18% gratuity which was not mentioned at all. Despite this, bill doesn't come to your table and one has to go there and pay for it. Even on top of that gratuity and this kind of service, they expect tip on top of that. We didn't even use their water bottles as we had our own water bottles with us(long wait to get food - so at least we got our own water bottles from the car as none of the servers even came to us and bothered to even ask for water-quite unusual)-but they were still trying to charge us for water bottles. They offer 5% discount for cash payers - this also indicates that they are doing something wrong by not disclosing their actual revenue to avoid paying taxes. Avoid this place - it's overhyped. Google reviews are either paid or may be at the time when it might be good. It's better to go to this place(we visited next day)-Tandoor Palace Indian Restaurant 9002 Wurzbach Rd #101, San Antonio, TX 78240-almost same price - much better food with far better ambience and service.

Absolute must!

If you are in San Antonio, you should absolutely visit this. Great restaurant, wonderful food, very good service. We ordered filter coffee, but wanted it stronger. We were given extra decoction, but when it was still light, we were given fresh cups of piping hot, strong coffee. The dosa was delicious, as was the min-tiffin.
