Beer Snob Heaven

By BrianStaffa |

I’m a beer snob. There I said it! Since Magnolia Gastropub & Brewery is located in the touristy Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco where the hippie movement is said to have started, I expected an Applebee’s type beer selection. If I’m faced with the typical, Bud, Bud Light, Coors Light, Miller Lite, and Sam Adams choices for draft beers in a bar, I usually walk out or will order a water. So when I find a bar that has an excellent list of craft beers AND bartenders that are basically cicerones – I’m in heaven. Magnolia Gastropub & Brewery fits that bill and more. We were introduced to Magnolia by a local craft beer snob and friend, Standard Greg. Not only do they have several (up to 18) delicious, varied, and unique beers on draft – they also have a few on cask at any given time! As the icing on the cake – they brew most of the beer themselves (might be all, but I didn’t want to make an inaccurate blanket statement without proof!). Prices were more than reasonable for the quality of the food and beer and for the atmosphere and the knowledge shared. I’m sure it helped that we were with a regular and respected restaurant manager in the area, but the staff at Magnolia’s treated us like family and offered suggestions and samples. All were spot on and well-informed. I enjoyed the Magnolia Pub Burger with bacon and Gruyere and two dark stouts that were fantastic. If they bottled beer I would’ve taken pictures of the names to remember them, but since I know I can only get their beer at their Gastropub – it was futile. From what I understand, get there early for lunch or expect to have a 20-30 minute wait at any given time. It’s that good.

Get the flight of beer

By Michael Horan |

Yes the meals are great! The best thing is getting a flight of beer as you can select which beer you want in the flight. Then get a pint of the best!

Beer and bbq

By CT-ref |

Nice range of beers, good neighborhood crowd, bbq goes quick, so go early, grab a seat, talk and drink and eat and have a great time!

Brewery Yes.......Food Not So Much.

By azzabar |

We visited here with our niece and a friend. The company was, of course, fantastic. The food was okay. We ordered hamburgers. Not the best ever and not the worst but definitely rare. We were so busy chatting that we did not realize the half of burger we had eaten was rare to the point of raw. We did not say anything since it was our fault we did not notice. The restaurant itself is really cool; we loved the interior. We tried some of their craft beers offered - very good. I would say we would return to drink but not to eat.

Lovely Pub

By John D |

Second visit to Magnolia. Primarily a micro brewery which does lots of different beer there is also a nice menu with good food including many types of sausages which are yummy. Not a “posh”place but loads of atmosphere and great staff

Nice bar, would have loved to eat here too

By iainmniai |

Great beer selection and friendly staff. Would have eaten here too but we were in a hurry and there was a wait for tables. We ended up coming back after and propping up the bar,the food looked lovely.

tasty beer and apps

By Kathi l |

This pub is in the Haight Asbury neighborhood which is still pretty hippie and grungee. The restaurant is not fancy and the ceilings and walls are in bad shape. They brew a variety of different beers and I tried the aliciella bitter beer ($8 per glass) and it was very herby and I had the bacon wrapped dates ($6 for two pieces). Food, beer and service were good. It's not a refined place and doesn't look super clean but I would go back and try different beers and app's.

Great food and beer

By Wilsonvic |

Lots of craft beer to choose from and interesting food. We had a pale ale and then had sausages, roast apple, kale and butter beans. It was so nice to have a normal meal instead of Mexican or burgers. Great variety of foods and beer.

Great beer, friendly staff

By Barry T |

We went here twice in our recent trip to San Fran. Great range of beers and the bar staff / wait staff were really friendly. We had some light snacks but didn't eat dinner, however other people's food looked great. Sitting outside is awesome for people watching

Sweet

By lorit5 |

Loved the food, loved the atmosphere, loved the waitress, loved the location, loved the drinks....Devils on Horseback!

Popular, crowded spot on a Saturday

By WillGray77 |

This stop worked out for us during our beer tasting afternoon.... It was our third brewery we checked out for the afternoon. They have plenty of food options... Plenty of beer options... really a lot to satisfy anyone... We tasted 8 beers and enjoyed four of them. The bartender was fine. I don't like that they don't have any tv's to watch sports.... I would go back....

Smokestack at Magnolia brewing is a winner

By Nadorick |

We've visited Magnolia Brewery's Haight location and it is great. But, you will also want to visit their new brewery and BBQ on 3rd street. The sausages were plump and tasty and the beer fine as always.

Good beer; great staff and excellent snacks in Hippyland!

By Cavershamroyals |

We went to the Magnolia on Haight in the Haight/Ashbury district of SF where we not only had excellent beer but it was happy hour ($4 for selected brews). They were doing food but we only wanted a snack so we were offered a platter of cold meats; cheese; bread and pickled vegetables which was just right and very good too. Tremendous staff who helped us with finding the right bus back into town and also told us about the beers and the city. You can re-live your hippy days (if you had them of course) in this area and then enjoy a beer or two at the Magnolia. We would definitely recommend it.

very nice beers

By Robert d |

Very nice place to have a (really good beer). Waitress could tell a lot about the beerd. Had some chicken wings, taste was good but small portion. Didn't have dinner.

Called in for one of their excellent beers

By Atardvark |

Great place and great beer. This is one place to visit of you are in the area for a snack and a beer. They have real ale that is as it should be drunk. Unfiltered unpasteurised and in carbonated. The fizz is natural from the fermentation. It's almost a heath food. The food we had as snacks was really good, try the deep fried pickles. Several as l visits over the few days in San Francisco. It's on a bus route

Meh menu

By TDOK |

After having apps at a precious stop we intended on going here for dinner but the menu was pretty limited to big fried stuff. We got a couple of drinks and the Devils on Horseback app. The bacon was overcooked but it was still ok. We wound up leaving and having dinner elsewhere.

Excellent place for a pint!

By The-Skylark |

We dropped in for a quick drink while out walking and while we didn't try the food, the beer was certainly good. A very good place for a pint!

A Safe Choice in Haight/Ashbury

By DocPsych |

My travel companions and I stopped in for lunch while wandering around the neighborhood. The menu is somewhat limited, so check the menu on Magnolia's website before you go. I had the fish and chips, which was fine aside from the fish being just a bit bland and the french fries quite ordinary. Another person had the sausage, which she thought was excellent; while our third companion had a turkey sandwich that he enjoyed but came with the same ordinary fries. The server was excellent, with a great attitude and knowledgeable about the different beer available and the food.

Why all the moaning?

By Donald K |

We were given heads up on this place by staff at Mikkelers. We're sure glad we took it and made effort to get here. Excellent selection of craft & cask ale in variety of styles with ones we had in good condition. Food - we had burger with fries and salad plus side of beans and chard. Burger excellently served medium/rare as requested. Everything tasted delicious. Staff hardworking, friendly and receptive. Prices good. Recommend highly.

Named for a Tree But It's a Gem!

By Johnt65 |

The Magnolia Gastropub (1398 Haight Street, San Francisco, California) is one of those places you always hope to find in places with famous associations like "Haight Street" but seldom do. Two visits: the first was exploratory. I had never associated brewing with Magnolia, the tree with the showy flower, but the Magnolia Gastropub has changed my view. A small seven barrel brewery and a very nice restaurant. There is a very nice selection of their own product all built around perfecting different variations on ales. The selection went from a very, very nice version of British bitter (actually not at all bitter) to a really hoppy ale which we found to be really, really nice. I would recommend that if you are a beer lover, you get a flight and try the range. You will be intrigued enough to return for more. Our second trip was to eat and drink. So we had full meals along with beer. The food was very nice and the service was that unpretentious service that comes with places you will come back to because it feels like home--or a traditional corner pub/bar. Visit the Website--there is a very informative video of the building of another, a new Magnolia. In it you can hear Dave who sees his restaurant as a place where people come to live a little bit of their lives and so what you do as the proprietor is to be intentional to make that little bit of life great--with good food and really good, carefully brewed beer. We are looking forward to visiting the Magnolia Dogpatch--down by the old San Francisco docks.

Awesome Lunch today at Magnolia

By George_Bass |

Had an awesome lunch today with two friends at the Magnolia. It was a great discovery for us. This onsite brewery had a great selection of beers. We chose to try a gentle lager (but not the wheat one) - very smooth. To go with it we went very traditional - fish and chips. As I recall the fish was Pacific cod. It was a tough choice thought as there was a chicken habanero (one of the house sausages) that looked nice and spicy for my liking. The service was fast, attentive and knowledgeable. The food tasted great. This is a busy place, but well worth any wait. Also great view out the windows onto Haight, just a little off of Ashbury - what you see totally will take you back to the late 60's, early 70's.

Great local brews

By Tova L |

This is a great place to hangout, have some killer local craft brews, and good pub food! We ended up just sitting at the bar, but a good time. Very friendly environment with great service.

Great Service and Great food

By Yago1 |

We loved this place. The service and the staff were so pleasant and the food was amazing. We both had a different sausage that were made locally and naturally sourced. The dedication to local produce and product is to be commended.

Haight St Gem!

By Wanderingfoodie23 |

Stumbled upon this pub brewery while walking down Haight st and figured we'd give it a go. Our server was super friendly and knowledgable on the menu and beer and made excellent recommendations. I had the burger and fries and my partner had the steak sandwich and both were exceptionally good! Pub food with an interesting twist. Highly recommend!

Pre concert dinner.....great place....will be back

By FamFunIllinois |

We recently grabbed dinner here before The Who concert. We live closer to the location on Haight and have been there several times, however this one is a bit more upscale, larger and a more diverse menu. We had great food and great service. Also a well stocked bar was also a nice add.

LOVED this place! Octopus appetizer incredible!

By Holly K |

If you like good beer, cheese, bread and salami, this place is for you (olives would have made it heavenly)! My daughter and I also split the octopus appetizer over toasted bread - a VERY generous portion and the best I've ever had. LOVED THIS PLACE - it's near Haight and Ashbury so that added to the fun atmosphere as well.

Awesome Beer and Sausages

By Michelle |

The outside location was great for people watching. We had a flight of 6 beers and then got a couple of pints. The beer was good. We ordered two different sausages (they make their own) and they were delicious!

Great atmosphere and wonderful barbecue!

By Jeanne G |

Old canning factory re-fur bed to a pub an eatery. Decor is really stunning! Food is excellent-I'm not even a barbecue fan but I found the pulled pork amazing!

Big group for dinner

By Elanor7 |

Excellent menu and great wine. The staff gave great recommendations and we all (10 of us!) enjoyed our meals. Crowd favourite was the pork chop main and the croquet starter. I would definitely recommend :)

My best lunch in SF - Haight Ashbury area

By Webbuzzard |

This isn't a fancy place by a long shot, but on Tuesdays, drafts are $4 and the food is excellent. What more can I say, except what we ate. My wife had a BLTA, which is a BLT with Avocado. It was amazing; she offered me a bite, and I ate a whole half. I had a kasekrainer sausage which was nearly as good. The sausage was juicy, tender and went well with the condiments.

I end up here EVERY TIME!

By anwhi005 |

I have family in San Francisco, so I am here at least once a year. I seem to always end up eating at Magnolia at least once. The food is fresh and filling, with a menu filled with simple classics, charcuterie, and local cheeses. The wines are all from CA, and the delicious brews are all made in-house. The service is always friendly and fast, they have outdoor seating and a lot of space inside as well. I usually go with the burger, which is huge, but this last time I got the BLT, which was delicious. Salty, crisp bacon with avocado and aioli on grilled bread. For SF proper, the prices are reasonable as well! Try it out next time you're in town. You won't be disappointed!

Stopped in during strong beer week...

By orange-u-tall |

On a cozy corner of Haight St., one will find the Magnolia Pub & Brewery, an amicable joint that had a dozen or so brews on draft. The best of the lot were the Smokestack Lightning, the Proving Ground IPA and the Cole Porter. The place is a little cramped, but that is a positive aspect, as it creates more intimacy and camaraderie.

A genuine gastropub with heart

By Porsupah |

Being "Strong Beer February", I began with an unlikely creation, "Bring It On Home", an Imperial Kölsch, which indeed had all the flavors you'd expect of a good Kölsch, but moreso, balancing its 9.6% heftiness. That paired well with the grilled artichokes with parmesan, aioli, and capers - a delicious combination, marred by leaving too many of the outer leaves on, making for only a small portion not requiring a great deal of chewing. (Which I engaged in anyway - it was too tasty!) I followed that up with the crab-stuffed trout with beurre blanc and an arugula salad, which was heavenly; the crab stuffing was seasoned perfectly, lending that characteristic sweetness to an already delicious trout - every mouthful was a joy. Finally, dessert, in the form of their 10.2% Heavenly Joy imperial stout, a fine way to round off a visit here - it's somewhat drier than many of that kind, making it much less cloying than many of its kind, the better to appreciate the richness of its malty nature. Service was attentive, even at the evening's busiest time.

This place is good

By Nemothelonely |

The beer, the food, and fortunately we got a very nice waitress too. I think one of the better ones. And it had atmosphere. The music was a little loud for my tastes, but still, I would go back.

Bit disappointed. Staff was indeed friendly

By Jersey_Jet_Setter |

We made a special trip to eat here based on reviews. So, expectations were high. I did not feel the beer was flavorful compared to other brew pubs. My kids had burgers which we excellent. The adults had the homemade "bratwurst " which tasted like chorizo. Spicy. It was not even the right color! Sauerkraut was awful. We were expecting authentic German style, I guess. Not even close. That was was disappointing. The waitress was sweet.

Great lunch!

By Robbie M |

Great service, beer and food! Fish and Chips were delicious and our waitress was extremely attentive and helpful!

Better And Cheaper Alternatives

By Barney T |

Like much about the Haight, this is trading on Old Ghosts Long Dead. The Dead and the Airplane are long gone; let this overpriced, snobbish establishment speak for itself and the Emperor Has No Clothes. The beers are good; I can find no quibble there. The communal seating is also good, as it leads to excellent conversations with your fellow drinkers. However, the food prices are outrageous, even for this neck of expensive woods. Lots of fried things with high prices. Some vegetarian options for those inclined, but not enough to make one come back. For the beer scene that is the Bay Area, you are better off heading to Linden St. in Oakland or even 21st Amendment in SF. Magnolia's options are good, but the food is limited and the price is too high.

Great Beer

By Maria515 |

The Magnolia Pub & Brewery was on our list to visit as it was recommended by a friend (who is a beer writer) this is worth a stop in Haight, which in itself as a district is worth a visit. There is much to love about this place, there is a real good choice of beer, we visited here twice and the first time we had a flight (6 small little tasters of our choice) These are great as you can decide which one you want a little more of. When we visited firstly we had a seat by the bar, as we called in for a drink (you dont have to wait to be seated here, you can then sit on one of the high tables/or the bar and eat if you wish)The food looked and smelled lovely so we had some fries as a snack and they were gorgeous. We called again and sat outside for a beer again no complaints here, the twice we visited it was busy although it was lunchtime/early afternoon and it emptied following the food service.

Good stuff

By Crister N |

Good selection in quality brew, awsome pulled pork sandwich and O. K service. The staff was friendly and quick to help. Would gladly eat and drikke beer here again.

The oysters melted in my mouth!

By LongBeachJake |

Visited on a Saturday for brunch. The oysters in the hangtown fry melted in my mouth! The staff was very friendly and the menu featured a simple yet interesting assortment of food. Would definitely visit again next time I am in the Haight.

Gotta Try It

By TerryinAylmer |

Popped in here for lunh while on hop on hop off bus tour on the recommendation of the tour guide. We had no regrets! We both had one of the best meals in San Francisco. The variety of brews is impressive, especially the barley wine which you must try. Not to miss if you are in Haight Ashbury district.

Not a go to destination.

By Travelinscott29120 |

Went in, no one greeted us - we wound up going to the Bar. I was made to feel like a fool, as I asked if they had any Lager or Pilsner (I know technically a Pilsner may be a Lager) I was answered: "We are an ale house, we only have ales" - Alas my favorite Pilsner (Award Winning) is made by the Auburn ALE House, their lager is a favorite too (and they make Killer IPA's too) - a simple no would have sufficed. It was super hot in the place to the point of being very uncomfortable - given it was 90° outside, but hot is hot. Looked at the menu, was fine enough I guess - but nothing we felt like staying to eat. There really is no ambiance in the place - it is what it is, if you want a brew stop in - we went down the street a few steps and felt much more welcome at a rum oriented bar that had some great rum bowls for $16.00 (it cost $14.00 for 2 beers) - all I can say is been there done that, once was enough for me

Great place in the heart of Haight Ashbury

By Lisa P |

We were on a walking tour of the area and asked the tour guide for lunch suggestions. Magnolia was mentioned. It was so close to the main intersection, that I thought it would be bad food or way over priced. It was actually fantastic food with a great selection of beer and priced reasonably. If I lived in this area, I would eat here often. I had a really good hamburger. I was impressed with the waiter's knowledge and ability to help us select a beer.

Great beers in a great location

By Ernesto L |

We'be been at Magnolia a year ago for lunch. This time just tried some beers after biking at Golden Gate Park. The pleace is great, staff very friendly and the beers were superb.

Great lunch!

By Andrea S |

Great food and fast service. Highly recommend the soft pretzel, fried chicken sandwich, ahi tuna sandwich and Brussels sprouts!

Alright Food, Good Beer Selection

By cubabound2008 |

We were really excited to go here for dinner, and found the service fast and friendly, even though they were super busy. There were many beers to choose from, but our dinner of 1 homemade sausage platter, and fish and chips were disappointing. From reading reviews, we had expected more. The homemade mayo for the fries was delicious, though. I'd go back for the beer, but would likely skip dinner.

Great way to finish a tour of Haight-Ashbury area

By CapitolHillDC |

Interesting menu of salads - try the grilled romaine or fried asparagus - meats - get a platter of meat and cheese - and main dishes - try any fish. Let your server help you choose a brew from the daily menu board. Get a window seat so you be a part of what's happening. Afterwards, take a stroll to work off that last Proving Ground IPA.

Good beer!

By Tannipopanni |

We've been twice in this pub and had several good beers because of the good guidance of the fellows at this pub! Thanks and go on like that!

Last dinner in San Francisco

By Giulia M |

To close a nice holiday we wanted a nice dinner. Very good choice. Very good beer, hamburger and dessert. Kind staff. Amazing soundtrack with Grateful Dead.

Awesome beer and smoked delights

By luismoralest |

Great atmosphere for a Monday night. very good selection of beer. Sit down at shared tables and order beer at one bar and your food right out of the smoker

NOT in Haight Asbury

By BethRossi |

IMPORTANT - Trip Advisor needs to update this listing immediately. The address listed is NEAR (but not the exact address) for Magnolia Smokestack in DOG PATCH (which is a restaurant affiliated with Magnolia Pub and Brewery) but it is not in Haight-Asbury as the TA filter tells you. If you put this address in your GPS, you will drive 30 minutes (at least) through some rough neighborhoods and end up in Dog Patch. Our teenager actually saw an inspection and exchange of drugs as our Uber waited at a light. Our Uber dropped us (we were skeptical) and fortunately the street seemed "okay" but almost deserted. We were more than a little worried as this was no place for a family of tourists. We also had to wait for two different Uber's to get out of there because the address was hard to locate or "bad", a direct quote from the driver who ultimately rescued us. I have always relied on TA for good if not spot-on info but my faith is definitely shaken and this is the second mistake I've seen on a location. I'll note the other below. People's safety must be of the utmost concern. This location is not "as advertised". While I'm sure it is a decent place, TA needs to get the location corrected. I hope my review will save someone else the fear and trouble we experienced, not to mention the EXPENSE of having to pay for multiple, unnecessary, very long trips. $35 not including a generous tip for the driver who finally got us to Haight Asbury. Anyway, DO NOT go to this location if you are seeking a restaurant in Haight Asbury. Instead, go to the Magnolia Pub/Gastropub location on Haight St. The only reason we went to the other is that it was higher rated. FYI the other location not showing on the map correctly was the Japanese tea garden. It was showing up in the city, not in Golden Gate Park which is where it is. I inquired about this is a Q&A a few weeks ago so maybe it was corrected. Not as big of a deal but.... Trip Advisor, get it together please.

Really great brewery hidden in the mist of Haight Ashbury

By Furman55 |

Not what you would expect in this part of town but if you happen to be on San Frans west side roaming Haight endlessly, stop in here for some sustenance and hydration. The beer is all made on site and is phenomenal. Food is good too - try the lamb meatballs.

Ok but no more

By goldmann |

Quite good and interesting different sort of beers. Quite genuine setting. Good service and quite a nice ambiance. But it is not my cup of tea. Liberal neighborhood and liberal customers. Food was ok bot nothing special. Thought beer was not bad.

Great lunch

By Jon |

The Devils on horseback are amazing. The Scotch eggs were very good. I had the veggie sandwich and it was the best I have ever had. The beer is quite good as well.

Good Beer Selection-- Food Was Iffy

By AncientMariner924 |

I know others have provided better reviews than this one, but sadly Magnolia missed the mark on its food. The oysters were rather small and the fish and chips seemed to be very dry and lacked taste. However, the beer options are quite good and are worth the visit for craft brew fans. The staff is quite attentive, even during the busy times, and the place was rather busy for a Wednesday night, a credit to its stature within the area and the locals. For the beer, I would return.

Great service, order online, great food

By Preston |

Great place to stop and get a good bite to eat. This place had amazing food and great service. We ate outside on a windy day but nothing blew away thankfully. We ordered by using the QR code stick to the table to order online. You can customize your order if you are picky. The great thing about ordering online with the QR code is you don’t have to wait for the check. I got the burger and it was very customizable. My family got the fish and chips, chicken club sandwich, and the quinoa bowl. They all loved it. Recommend this place for lunch and it’s overall amazing

Great Pub

By DavidVsGoliath |

Great pub with good food and a good selection of beers. I had a great time here and had an excellent meal as well. I just got a burger, but it was really surprisingly good. It was cooked perfectly and was complimented well by the beer I got. Really a cool place.

Great, full most of the time

By aperezada59 |

The food is great, we were not much into drinking but they have lots of artisan beers to choose from and it´s always full, be prepared to wait (I don´t know wether you can reserve, doesn´t seem like it). Try the delicious goat cheese filled, bacon covered dates. The general area is cool, nearby you can find Gorrins Hats, awesome shop. Actually one of their salesmen reccommended Magnolia to us.

Delicious

By Digsroc |

I had pork and grits which was delicious and some IPA beer. Which was also lovely and rather potent! My wife had a vegetarian salad with chips which was also tasty. My only criticism would be on arrival the waitress advised us there were no tables and I had to suggest that we were happy to sit outside. Once we were assigned our waiter he was very helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely worth a visit.

Great beer and great prices

By KLF_1031 |

Get the beer flights - they're only $8 for 4 beers and it's a great way to check out all of their beers. Great bar scene and great service.

Fantastic

By oldglory78 |

I stopped in here on Saturday evening. I was travelling solo and met some really nice people. Had food which was great and beer which was really good. All brewed o site. When one of the nice people accidentally took my phone the bar man helped me by logging into find my phone on his phone and leaving the bar to help me look. Magnolia bar man take a bow for your actions for humanity. Can't thank you enough. Just go to this place you won't be sorry!!

Great beer!

By daveb914 |

We stopped in for a drink after walking around the height. Nice place friendly helpful people. I had their stout, it was good. Had a slight coffe roast flavor, very filling and good. My wife had one of their wines, she liked it as well. We didn't get a chance to try the food but will on our next visit.

Great Brunch

By JJ_SF_JJ |

Great brunch on weekends. Casual place and definitely a pub vibe but the food is pretty good. They also serve coffee in the morning.

Historically Great Pub in the Haight

By Larry R |

Excellent selection of craft brews, charcuterie, burgers and brunch. Not much has changed in this pub from the sixties. Great corner location, friendly and sincere service combined for a fun afternoon. The meat board is a generous selection of six different choices accompanied by yummy grilled artisan sourdough. Likewise the cheese board offers a reasonable portion of four cheeses accompanied by grilled sourdough. Plenty of food for 3 or 4 folks. The beer comes in three sizes and is fairly priced. Fun stop on Height Street - worth every penny.

Fantastic pub and ambience

By N0mad_by_Ch0ice |

Magnolia, located in the funky Haight-Ashbury neighborhood is well worth a visit. Small cozy venue that offers about 13 different draft beers and friendly knowledgeable staff. The beers are mostly hoppy if that pleases your palate. Perfect place for a lazy afternoon in town when it’s raining.

Best Burger and Fried Chicken not to mention the beer

By Dale R |

Great location, (we were staying at an apartment 100 feet away), simply wonderful food and a hopping place. The selection of their own beers was really good and we all tried something different. The burger and fries I had was over the top and as it was Thursday, it was chicken night and that was equally good. No reservations so get there early.

Great Historic pub

By Susan J |

This pub is in the heart of the Haight District of San Francisco. It has a cool bar with a very good selection of craft beers. I only drank beer at the bar, but the food looked great. I went midday on a Sunday so it was easy to get a spot. They have cool shirts. Very friendly people. If u like beer it’s a must.

Delicious brews and bites!

By ccampbeb |

We were wondering around Haight Ashbury and decided we needed something to eat, and Magnolia was the first place to pop up on Google for "brewery near me" It was a win! We walked in, and it was packed. We managed to squeeze ourselves in at the bar. The bartender was quick to greet us and was super friendly. We asked for their best ale and IPA and she picked out two beers (out of 10? Maybe more) that suited our tastes. To go with our beers, we snacked on an andouille sausage (that came on a bed of beans and tomato sauce) and goat cheese with bread and fruit compote. It was a light, delicious and filling snack for two. This is a very hip gastropub in the heart of Haight Ashbury. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for some refreshments (or a meal!) during your wondering.

good for light snacks and drinks

By Michael C |

we went in about 3 pm on a Saturday, they were busy but we only had a 10 minute wait. the snacks and drinks were good

Super pub in San Francisco

By Mike O |

Great people watching on Haight St. Super selection of home brewed beer and ale. Had a burger - fresh ground beef, thick bacon, egg on top. Fries were tasty. Tomato/lettuce were fresh. Had a stout (sorry forget name), lots of taste, silky finish. Excellent waitress. Friendly, attentive. Been there for drinks before and also really enjoyed it. Good times.

One of my favorites

By Jeff B |

This is one of my favorite spots in San Francisco. They make great beer and serve pretty darn good food, too. I've had the fish & chips and the burger and thought both were excellent. If you get to face out the window, you get some great people watching, too, since it's right in the middle of Haight-Ashbury.

a very busy place

By MD O |

we stopped by after walking to and from golden gate park. we were thirsty, it was about 3:30 pm and the place was hopping. we bought a couple of beers and managed a seats at the shared table inside. the beers were excellent and we split a pulled pork sandwich (which was very good as well). we had several conversations with locals ( who were all a lot younger than us). we enjoyed it very much.

Great beer!

By BigManHungry |

A couple of pretty good drafts. Burgers are good, but a little too small ;-) for sure one of the best spots in Height Ashbury!

Excellent

By Gabriel P |

Excellent pub, great selection of beers. Wonderful location and brilliant service. One of the best, if not the best, I've found in San Francisco.

Don't eat here!

By Lori Ann M |

I stopped in to have a beer and a quick bite to eat. The beer was good, handcrafted. The food, vomit! I even asked the bar tender before I ordered the fish and chips if it was super greasy or not. He said it wasn't greasy at all. It came out and one bite I had to have it taken away. It was dripping in grease and the cod was not even cleaned well. It was like eating it straight from the ocean. He charged me for something that was inedible. Ick!

A must-visit in Haight-Ashbury

This is a place where you can still capture the ghosts of the Grateful Dead and other jam bands. You really go here for the beers, many named in honour of the Grateful Dead (New Speedway Bitter, Working Man’s Ale, Dark Star Mild, for example) coupled with a great music soundtrack. OK – the place is a bit tired looking, but slick and trendy just wouldn’t be right. And so the food isn’t haute cuisine – it sure tastes good and works well with the drinks.

Simple & Easy

By Sam |

A couple friends and I stopped by Magnolia for a few quick rounds of beer and appetizers. Our waitress was awesome and even gave us some recommendations for the area as we were just visiting for the week. Overall, if you're looking for somewhere not super fancy, and is quick and easy then this place is certainly a viable option.

Pub to try new tastes

By dmrbay |

At the corner of Masonic and Haight this historic pub has its own brewery. Ask to have their own beer. There are a lot of new tastes.

Great Pub Great IPA

By BurgessMeredith |

Stopped in for a beer at the end of the day on Haight-Ashbury. Had the BEST IPA I've ever had. Great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

Great beer, even better food!

By Chollis7 |

I had the best pork chop I've ever eaten! Sides were excellent. Friendly place, good service, great look...

A stop in Haight-Ashbury on the way to Union Square

By Jeremy B |

A great selection of beer and trained staff to guide you through their menu. The wings and pickle plate were very good, but the Caesar salad was excellent. The interior needs a little TLC, but the food and drink more than makes up for it.

Waitress so rude & unfriendly we immediately left

By Odile S |

Very disappointed. Place was recommended by a friend, so we took a bus to have a drink there. When we asked if a table was available, the waitress was extremely rude to us and gave us attitude ("It will be when I've cleaned it!", rolling her eyes -- and not in a friendly tone, believe me). Then she said that only a certain zone was for drinks and gestured to a corner of the terrace that seemed to be full, obviously not trying to find a solution for us to stay at the restaurant. I don't think she wanted us to stay. Maybe it's because we were tourists, or that I wasn't white, I don't know. This is the most terrible service we encountered in our two weeks in California.

Worth the wait

By Nielsen00 |

Stopped in after a good walk in Golden Gate Park and had to stand for a few while we drank our first beer. The bartenders were fast friendly and answered all our questions about their variety of brews. Delicious!

Great vibe

By MickeyMundelein_IL |

Friendly people, great beer and the food was delicious. We had burgers and the pastrami sandwich with the proving ground IPA. The place was crowded but our waitress, Cece was so cordial and relaxed we soon felt relaxed too in our cozy booth. Dog friendly and kid friendly also. Some outside seating.

Cold beer, warm food, friendly service

By Em Ar |

I would visit this spot again. We had to wait quite awhile for seats but it was Saturday evening and there is a lot to look at while you stand and wait. If you have a large party, this may not be the best option, at least until indoor dining is available again. The service was friendly and quick once we were seated. I really enjoyed the beers and the fried chicken breast. I would visit this spot again.

Good atmosphere

By Rich1887 |

Great selection of beer (suggest you try the six tasting board beers). Food was also tasty - we had a scotch egg, fried chicken & a burger. Our only complaint was that it was a bit cold sitting by the door.

Good variety of beers

By lovefoodinCM |

We drink beers at the bar. The place was lively with a lot of people talking and having fun. We did not eat, but will do that next time since the bbq smelled delicious and the food looked delicious! I am not a ham eater , but I saw a slice of ham that I really wanted to eat. It looked so moist! So for now, this is just a beer rating.

Simple, the best gastropub experience ever! If you love food and beer, no doubt my friend, go for it!!!

Enjoyable snack meal and beer

By Fussy_People |

Imaginative small dishes prepared and served well; pleasant service; buzzing atmosphere. Beers were particularly enjoyable. Good pitstop.

Great beer

By a_good_night_sleep |

the Proving Grounds IPA is fantastic. The bar was crowded. The wait staff seemed to have too many customers. Additional wait staff would improve this brewpub.

Terrific Sunday Brunch meal.

By Firvo |

Delicious food in interesting combinations. Very friendly wait staff. Right on Haight street in middle of Haight Ashbury section. Everyone enjoyed thier meal. Visited on a Sunday and brunch offerings fit the bill.

Good Beer. Popular Spot

By Damon A |

Happened upon this place during a walk through the city. We sat outside and had two beers from their cask selection. Both were very good. The bartender was very friendly, as was our server. It was a little full inside the pub...it appears to be very popular with the locals. We arrived during happy hour, so the price was quite reasonable. We would definitely go back again to try more beer and eat.

Lunch spot in the Haight

Delicious IPA and magnolia fries while people watching in the Haight District. Fun place to be on a sunny afternoon.

Gastropub That's Gastropleasure!

By Fencegal |

While on a trip to experience micro breweries, I had been told that this was a great place from some people and hit and miss from others ("depending on who the chef was that day"). I decided to go and what a gastro thrill! While I had my fill of beers earlier in the day, ordered and enjoyed Magnolia's own Rootbeer on tap, my companions enjoyed their micro brews... particularly the "Dark Star Mild". The food was wonderful... my companions opted for the fish and chips... which was graciously shared with me... light fresh fish with perfectly crunchy battered coating. I had ordered their appetizer "Devils on Horseback" which are dates stuffed with goat cheese (yum) and baked wrapped in bacon... Oh my goodness... the sweetness of the date, the delicate flavor of the cheese and the saltiness of the bacon was dreamy in the mouth (I was going to order more for the plane ride home, but didn't want to carry all day). I followed up with a just as wonderful mouth sensation of the "Open-Faced Mushroom Melt".. seasonal mushrooms with herbed goat cheese, caramelized onions, gruyere on herb slab bread and dipped in a mushroom jus.... I wanted to order another. For dessert, for which I wasn't hungry for, but my companions ordered.. and I partook and overtook was a mouth watering Coffee Cake with Carmel Sauce served very hot in a ceramic bowl. The cake was perfectly cooked, then with the pour of the hot carmel sauce.... heaven in the mouth. The staff was young and hip, friendly and smiled a lot (such a nice change from LA)... Magnolia Gastropub and Brewery represented the city well.

Good beers. Customer Service lacking.

By We5ley |

This brewery has been on my list to visit for awhile. I visited during Happy Hour, which Lots of great beers to choose from. I waited at the bar for a bartender to take my order. I saw the bartender standing at the end of the bar. He saw me and I saw him, but he didn't come over to me. I sat back down and tried again when I saw another bartender at the bar. Please note that there are two

Simply amazing, nothing else

By Hanna P |

Went here on a weekday and got a table the second we stepped inside. Nice service and beautiful menu-design. Their burger is probably the best I've ever had! Not that expensive either ($14) but the cheapest meal on the menu. A little too loud, but a nice atmosphere and very much in the middle of the Haight/Ashbury-hoods. Go here to have dinner after a day among the stores on Haight street. They are also known for their beer - so try that as well!

Excellent Tasting

By John G |

Stopped by on a Friday early afternoon. Enjoyable setting and plenty of seating in the beer garden (back room). Got 2 flights of samples, 8 “flavors”. 4 IPA’s and 4 others. Especially enjoyed the Proving Ground IPA and the Red Ale. Least enjoyable was the English Bitter. Glad that I went.

Fab!!!

By car067_13 |

Great choice of beers on tap. Good food ... burgers are amazing. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting San Francisco!

Great beer and fun food in a unique spot

By Amy B |

Went for lunch and were not disappointed. The beer was great and the menu is pretty limited but everything we had was great. The Devils on Horseback, Thai Chili Sausage and Pulled Pork Sandwich all hit the spot. And the beer was really, really good. Take a few minutes to walk up and down the street while here. it's like no place you've ever been. An interesting mix of high end and dead head all in one place.

Best Brunch Ever

By margoann |

We had just finished a 3 hour walking tour of the Haight neighborhood and were starving and thirsty. Our guide on the walking tour had explained the history of the building ( it started as a pharmacy) so we thought we'd give it a try. I don't think we could have picked a better spot. We waited about 5 minutes for a table. While we waited we ordered a beer and a root beer. Both very good and quenched our thirst. I ordered the French toast. It was the best French toast I have ever had but I should have not eaten all of it! I had a sugar rush to last the day! My husband had a skillet with oysters which he gave equally high marks to. Other food I saw looked delicious too. Service was a little slow but we weren't in a hurry so it didn't bother us. Next time we visit, we'll try dinner!

Nice Burgers

By TimFlanagan |

There were nice burgers and fries. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who doesn't have ochlophobia like me because this place is noisy and crowded. Besides that, it is a great restaurant.

Loved it

By sketchy321 |

We stopped by the Magnolia for lunch, while exploring the Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood. Great atmosphere, and awesome service and food. I had a delicious roasted red bell pepper soup, my husband had a kale salad and a dark beer that smelled incredible. Glad we stopped by!

Good beer!

By nigellc |

Enjoyed a couple pints of their own brew on a sunny evening.Food pretty good too, imaginative. Cracking service from friendly staff who knew their stuff. I appreciated their keeping my 4 seater table while I awaited a guest who was unavoidably delayed.

Great pub and brewery

By timwing8 |

We were visiting Haight Ashbury and stopped for lunch here at the Magnolia Pub & Brewery. It's great. Very good food at a reasonable price and excellent beer. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great Place

By cokerbud |

Great comfort food and above average local brew makes this a definite stop. Appears to be a local crowd and that makes it even more special. The waitstaff appears to be overworked but do an awesome job. Wish I would have had time to visit again.

Food quality outstanding for a pub

By Cursive9 |

Ordered the brick chicken for $24 and was very impressed with the quality of the meal. Had excellent flavor and presentation which for a pub is amazing. Good atmosphere, beers, and place to mingle and chill. It is just a pub though, so this isn't the type of place for a special dinner. Also the menu only had a few items, burger steak but what they offer... They do well. Would return.

Great place

By eatydrinky |

Great food here. We had the burger and the sausage dish which I normally wouldn't go for but it sounded good and was delicious! The beers were also excellent and service was very good.

Great place and lots of characters to watch outside

By Mark |

An unexpected surprise in Haight. Great beer and food in a modern shabby styled interior make for a great experience

Nice pub, good for lunch

By Krista W |

My husband and I stopped here for lunch while exploring Haight & Ashbury. The food was delicious and the beer was good. It was busy, but the service was till very good. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch.

Nice local corner pub

By NoFixedPlans |

We had a beer flight (amazing!) and some appetizers (including fresh sardines with warm pesto, mmm) after a long afternoon of shopping in Height Ashbury. Service was fast and friendly; hearing we were visiting from Canada and interested in hitting local brewpubs, our server recommended some of his personal area favourites that had not been on our radar. A couple of drawbacks: the layout is a bit odd (high top booths in the centre of the room block sight lines in the whole place - the bar was invisible to us) and the unisex bathrooms are not very female friendly. Otherwise a nice little spot to enjoy some great local beer in SF.

Great bar... Poor communication between staff...

By Steven |

Lovely setting in the Haight area, lots of character and fantastic place for people watching. The food was tasty and accompanied by a great selection of beers and wine. Quirky and has character. However, as is the case all too often, let down by staff. We settled our bill with a female member of staff, tipped generously and left. Around 30 seconds later we were chased down the street by a male member of staff asking us when we planned to settled our bill. I assured him we had however he insisted that we return, which I did. By the time we arrived back he accepted that the bill had been paid and I made sure that I pointed out the member of staff. Not so much as an apology from the guy who gave chase to us as he seemed overcome with embarrassment. If you are going to make such accusations please do your homework, and, a sincere apology would have went a long way.

Nice Lunch Sitting Outside

By crayonline |

Great location for a Sunday stroll and window shopping. Sunny day, so sat outside. Table was a little small for two. Service was sufficient, could have checked on us more often for water. Salad and Chicken sandwiches were very good.

Great pub with a comfortable atmosphere

By Martin C |

I was concerned' when walking around Haights-Ashbury area' about finding a comfortable place to eat. Amongst all of the hippie shops I found the Magnolia. The Magnolia was super comfortable with a great staff. My waitress was knowledgeable on the many beers that they brew on site. The food was tasty. I chose to sit inside, though they had outdoor seating on the street. This place is worth the stop if in the area.

Not friendly staff

By Tessa E |

We wanted to have a beer after a though day of being roped from our passports and all. Did not have an id on me, but showed a scan of my passport to the lady bartender. "No" she said. Can't believe it; I'm 31 years old and show an passport scan. Even tried to convince her by showing the police report, but no mercy. Really not friendly!

Generally not great

By Janet F |

Servers not friendly. Food was poor. Was also very over priced for what they served. Would not return again.

Great place for a burger and a beer

By A G |

I know, just the title makes you want to go here. Problem is there's really only one thing on the menu for a vegetarian (I know, on Haight Street in San Fran of all places) and that is the $20 bread pudding which WAS very good my wife said... but $20 good? Not so much. Beer was fantastic, were seated rather quickly with 8 people. Ask for the secret kid's menu, they have one! I recommend the IPA, it was a beautiful complement to my meal.

Vert Nice authentic place

By charli s |

Nice beer , good food, and efficient service. A good place to go at all time. Good place to go with some friends

Cool building, nice location

By laubachj |

The beers are above average, but I won't recommend the beer unless you are there for the food, I had the Special fried chicken, it was good. but not fantastic. But the whole experience was good

Great local brew pub

By Karen |

Great local brewery and pub. Good beers and a nice selection of food, albeit a bit greasy. The service can be slow when it gets too crowded of course.

Always improving their craft!

By LOLO eats |

I love Brunches at Magnolia! Weather you like amazing deviled eggs, or chiliques, or biscuit and gravy they never disappoint. They just started serving homemade cinnamon rolls!! yummy

Yummy

By EverydayConsumer |

We were led there (Dogpatch store) by local foodies and thoroughly enjoyed the food! The brisket was sooooo so good. Get the beer from the food side, it's cheaper from the bar across. The only con is that there weren't enough seats - we ate in the loading area

Great for lunch

By LukeBoi |

We've been here for dinner and even though they were very busy...service has been fast and friendly...anyway a littlle noisy and crowded.. Food is good especially organic burger...and a great selection of home brewed beers. I think this place is ideal for lunch.

Great and friendly atmosphere

By Olivia K |

I am in San Francisco on a business trip and discovered this gem! The food is a bit heavy, but it is delicious. The staff took the time to explain the beer menu and offer suggestions. I ordered the fish and chips, it is what I usually order in a strange restaurant and the fish was fresh, the beer batter not too heavy. Great staff and fun ambiance!

Great spot to kickoff a visit to the Haight

By BobFitz2012 |

I have two teen daughters who love hanging out in SF and we occasionally find our way to the Haight for an afternoon of shopping, people watching, and a stroll through GGP. To fuel up, we love to hit Magnolia and grab something from the Brunch Menu. The place is rightfully known for the house brews (which are excellent), but it's also a good spot for coffee, juice and a bite. The brewpub menu features meats and sausages, but there are also eggs and greens. I ordered the Fried Egg and Sausage sandwich (arugula, gruyere, aioli & onion marmalade). It was out of this world and set me to right for the day along with a cup of joe. Good food and good times on Shakedown Street. Check em out.

Snifters, snacks and staff

By Conor C |

Snifters: Great selection from this microbrewery that feeds the pub it's selection of fantastic local style beers, and international styled beers. The Kolsch (Cologne, Germany style) was unbelievable. Light and malty and superbly fresh and quenching. Snacks: huge portion of fries that were tasty, and a delicious scotch egg that had a salty fatty sausage coating and a lovely rich egg yolk that was still runny. Staff: very friendly bar staff, one of which said he was coming to England (did you make it to brewdog?????). They seemed happy and like they really wanted to chat, rock on guys.

Cool, bustling place worth checking out

By TipperNC |

This place has a great vibe. I enjoyed a couple of local brews (the Cole Porter and an IPA of some sort) while my friend had a whiskey "flight". The beer was good and my buddy enjoyed the whiskey - the bartender seemed pretty knowledgeable about both libations. He brought over the bottle of hooch that my friend liked best so he could take a photo of the label, also giving him some advice as to where best to buy it - nice. We were there on a Tuesday evening and the front part of the place was hopping. It was pretty loud and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The barbeque looked and smelled great but I was on a hunt for SF's best Mission burrito later that night so I wasn't able to try any of the food. Definitely give this place a try if you're in the neighborhood.

Great Beer

By NWlivin |

Good beer, ok food and ok staff. The reviews on this place are pretty spot on except no bbq when we were there. Did a beer flight and really enjoyed. The server was nice just a little disinterested in being there.

My food was good but my friends was not

By ThumpinAlong |

This place is hopping busy and can be very loud inside. They do not serve cocktails, just beer and wine. My friend and I both ordered brick chicken and his was rare inside. All of us pretty much finished our meals when his came back to the table. They had re-cooked the chicken instead of giving a new piece. But the smart thing was they gave him his dinner for free. My friends say their beers are awesome there.

Nicest place in H&A

By www.DinedThereSippedThat.com |

Probably the best/nicest place to grab a bite and a good brew in H&A. Ended up there randomly and glad we did. Great beer, great fish & chips. Also took the meatball which was good, but became too much food. friendly service. Definitely check it out

Good vibes

By Craig M |

If your visiting Sanfrancisco, haight st. is a must stop. there is a lot to do. But, shopping And people watching, always go better if you start at Magnolias first. They have fantastic micro brews. they make good beer. After a couple of IPAs and apatizers, I usually get a burger with bacon and cheese, i rate this as the best burger ever, my wife tries something different each time, but I can tell you everything on the menu Is awesome. We make magnolias a must stop when ever were in Sanfrancisco

Great place for beer, food and to relax

By LordDylington |

Lovely place on Haight Street, very relaxed, superb selection of beer and food. Very nice staff too, well worth a visit. i recommend the Blue Bell Bitter. Would love to go back and try them all.

Great Brew Pub!

By Ray K |

Great specialty brews. So many choices you can't help to come back time and time again! Fabulous bartenders really put them over the top!

Great food and beer selection

By Shanna D |

Loved the different food options and my husband really enjoyed the flight of beer he tried. I am sure he would have tried more had we had the time.

Great beer and food

By Chirico R |

We've been traveling with another couple, and the one member of the group asked if we could check out a local pub somewhere in the opposite end of the city (for no other reason than to drive around and see San Fran). We ended up going to Magnolia on a friend's recommendation, and immediately knew we were in a different (and cool) type of place. I know very little history about Haight street, but it had a different feel than the wharf, and it felt much more authentic (albeit a little hippy). The beer was very good, however I neglected to look at the alcohol content. After two, I was happy that I wasn't the driver. As a table, we ordered the pickled vegetables and the sausage plate both of which were unique and delicious. My one friend ordered the bread pudding which was very flavorful (pictured below). I ordered a burger, which was cooked perfectly. Sometimes you get a burger that's filled with flavor because of the number of items/sauces on it. This was just a delicious burger because of the cook's attention to detail and how well the burger was crafted. I would definitely recommend checking this little place out even if you're on the other side of town.

Delicious lunch and brews!

By Hmarshall03 |

We stumbled upon this delicious brewery while site seeing. We had the sweet and spicy wings to start which included six and the sauce was delicious. We both really enjoyed their pomegranate hard cider. Next I ordered their burger with fries. The burger was juicy and cooked just right for medium rare. The service was great and the scenery even better!

Great beer

By Lisa F |

Nice place, great atmosphere and good service. A very welcoming place on a rainy day in San Fransisco. The beer selection was great and the menu was very informative. I had an IPA which was spot on.

Best hamburger in town

By Mereille K |

Second time I have been here. Even five years later, the burger is still perfect. Nice neighborhood, where you don't come often when you're in SF. But really worth travelling for.

Yummy lunch venue

By SeldomSeenAsUsual |

The Magnolia is a bright, clean venue offering a selection of decadent pastries and well-prepared lunch offerings, notably a salmon open-face sandwich to which we succumbed. It was relatively packed with locals, which is a good sign. By all means pop in for a nibble; you won't be disappointed.

Oh, Happy Days!

By wwm |

What didn't I love about this little place? Nothing. Choice of 8(?) Beers straight from the Brewery Tap. Service with a smile, reasonable prices and bloomin' great food. Visited twice and will definitely head back again.

Closed for now

By Michelle C |

This place closed on 26 August after changing hands. Local reports say the new owners may reopen it with a new liquor license allowing sale of a wider range of alcoholic drinks.

Bit upmarket, but worth the price

By LyssM |

This place, like tripadvisor advises, is not one of the cheaper end restaurant/cafe/bars in San Fran. But it is worth the price. The menu offers a small range of tasty options, alongside the good atmosphere, great service, and quality boutique beers, this place is a hit. We had lunch there today - the burger and the lamb meatball sandwich were both scrumptious. The coffee was also good, as was the IPA. Two lunches with a coffee and beer cost us $50 all up, including a moderate tip. Not our cheapest lunch here, but I can't complain!

(Gastro)pub perfection!

By Wanderlustwithlaura |

We had an excellent experience at Magnolia. The place itself has a warm and comfortable vibe and the staff were very friendly. We enjoyed beers and delicious burgers on a chilly Sunday evening.

Favorite place to eat in Haight

By Anita M |

It's a gastropub great food, lots of craft beer & wines to choose from, and a popular place with locals.Downside- small, and can be too hipster-y at times. Brunch on the weekends= busy !

Awesome experience

By Tessie B |

What a great experience. Walked and enjoyed Haight street and decided to have a brew and lunch at Magnolia. A great idea. Enjoyed the craft brews and also the platter of cheese and meat. Truly a great experience and worth it

Do not dare to ask the artichokes.

By Borja V |

Chicken sandwich was great, to be honest. However, the artichokes were awful. Besides, it is just one artichoke, not plural.

Nice spot

By ElvisAndrus |

I needed a spot to do some writing and liked this place. I did not eat anything but the food looked great, service was friendly and it had an attractive buzz to all. In the heart of Haight-Ashbury

Sorry, out of ribs!

By broncofan1 |

Saturday night 5:30, they were out of ribs. Place is a bbq joint, and all they have is dry chopped pork, hard chicken and dry as hell potato salad and mac/cheese. AND, the lady taking orders had some serious attitude! Sorry I walked in the door. Lots of other options around Dogpatch, so stay away from here. BBQ, my butt!

2nd time, and would definitely go back!

By Josee L |

Excellent food, excellent service, great atmosphere! Even though i don't drink beer, i tried their home made soda, and it was better than the commercial one, les sweet, which i appreciated! We had burgers, they were good, add some bacon, it's a must!

Good Beer but Little Room

By Kendra |

We arrived to find that those not eating were to sit outside (it is slightly cold) or at the community table. The table was quite crowded but we found two seats. The beer was good and not too expensive considering the location. Sitting at the table does mean you must approach the bar to be served. It can be a bit nosey and at times felt like we were screaming to talk. Overall, the bartenders and staff were friendly and smiling.

Great Basic Food and a fine assortment of very good beer in an authentic atmosphere

By Koe_Nick65 |

Burger and Fish&Chips are very tasty. However, the area around the Magnolia is very fascinating and worthwile to walk around.

A must for brunch

By Margaret |

Savory steak and spuds ! Awesome adult libations on a hot summer day and perfect people watching to finish a great morning Thank you to the wonderful staff 👌

So much fun and the beer/food is great too!

By Cheryl S |

My boyfriend and I were visiting San Fran and had a day off to do some pub crawling. And we crawled our way to the Magnolia Pub! Walking up the street to get there, the day was bright and warm. So by the time we made it to the door, we were ready for some cold brews! Because I brew beer, I love to visit local breweries and see what they have come up with. Our bartender was amazing. He took the time to describe every one of their brews. After we told him our preferences, helped us choose our flight. One of the more unique breweries in San Fran this one is worth trekking to. I really loved the billard-shaped rack for the glasses! Such a neat concept! And they have some strong ales that are just wicked. Delicious and sneaky...they creep up on you. The food looked marvelous and most everyone was eating. Unfortunately for us, we had just dined elsewhere and were full. If you enjoy craft brews, great service, and great food, you need to stop here.

Unique beer place with great food

By fsudruski |

Wife and I went there in 2012. Yes, we were tourists. Yes we stuck out. But we didn't care and it was great. Beer was excellent and the fried green tomato sandwich was excellent!

Amazing food, beer, service and atmosphere

By jars64 |

This restaurant was recommended by the owner of our holiday rental apartment and what an excellent recommendation. We didn't have to wait for a table. Great beer selection and good quality food. Good atmosphere with attentive staff. This place is the best!!

Delicious selection of craft beer!

By Ontharoad |

Loved this visit. The beer was great. Food selection was a little limited, but it totally made up for it with its beer.

Ok

By Five_Aces_Tx |

Corner bar in the Haight-Ashbury part of SF. Food was ok and the stout was pretty good. The place looked slightly dirty and run down but I guess the owner has no incentive to improve if the house is packed all the time.

Boo

By Mojohnburr |

Dropped in for apps and beers. Place was half empty yet couldn't be bothered to seat us because we were not eating meals. What a bummer but the beers did look good.

Excellent pub and staff

By Pauly-101 |

We stopped here for a few drinks and a rest after a tie dye shopping spree. We sat at the bar and the two barmen talked away with us about all things San Francisco, sports, politics, music etc. We felt very welcome and would love to come back. Great drinks selection if you are into some weird and wonderful beers.

Beer is Fantastic - Food and Service not so much

By ChiTraveler59 |

This was on a top brunch place list in SF so we thought we'd give it a try - Disappointed off the bat that they have no Bloody Mary's but the beers were amazing- not so much with the food - We ordered some burgers medium-rare and they came out well done - Service was a bit inattentive as well - So definitely go for the beer but a caution on the food and service

Fun

By catherineltravels |

The husband likes IPA so we ended up at Magnolia. He was very happy w multiple IPA choices. The atmosphere is fun and the staff are welcoming as were other patrons. We happened to be there on Thursday night when they do a chicken dinner special. We got two large chicken breast and french fries...though it comes w mashed and gravy, we substituted fries. The chicken was done perfectly....not dry nice crispy coating. The fries however, tasted like they had not been near a potato for 20 years...get the mashed

Recovering post tourist bus tour

By Megan O |

What a find ! Great beer and the best ever mustard on sausages you will ever find - we are trying to work out how we bring some home

You Need To Go

By nikosstephanietasos |

We went there for brunch. The food was very good. We had the soup of the day, some excellent sausage sandwiches and steak and eggs. The salad was very good, too. Great selection of beer! We thought the staff was very polite and helpful. We liked the atmosphere, and I imagine that it would be better at night. If you want to visit Haight Ashbury, this place is centrally located. However, I think that it is worth the trip to that part of town anyway.

Superb food in an aging facility

By LightFighter |

The Magnolia Pub & Brewery is a landmark in the upper Haight - a fabulous stop if you are exploring the colorful area full of fascinating characters. There is much to love above the brew-pub - is a broad assortment of beer - and it is fabulous - I absolutely loved my IPA! The food was also superb - my wife and I each had fish and chips - one of the freshest and best-prepared versions I have ever tasted anywhere! The service was also top-notch. Our waiter Craig was friendly and personable - he took great care of us. The only slight dig is the facility - it is an old, historic building and is really showing its age. The ceiling, in particular, is in very bad shape with large sections of severely peeling paint overhead. I almost felt the need to keep a napkin over my open beer. With a fresh paint job, this restaurant could easily become my favorite place in the Haight.

San Fran fun

By Kevin F |

Out-of-towners here... To be honest we never even stepped foot inside the place. We came to meet my girlfriends friend that lives around the corner. It was jam packed inside, and even though it was a little chilly outside we chose to sit at the outside tables. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Magnolia cranks some of their own tastes brews! Those were fun to taste. They also make some mean food! I definitely can't wait to get back to San Fran and hit up Magnolia. The concept is very cool!
