Decent

Dish was tasty, reasonably spicy. Nice decor, music maybe slightly loud. Good location, not very big.

Not the best Thai I had

By Azulado_01 |

I try a lot of Thai restaurants when I travel, I was not impressed by this one. I did not feel dishes were as well condimented and elaborate like other Thai restaurants (I have experienced Thai restaurants in the North East, London and Paris). Sauces were simple, heavy and on the sweet side. Service was merely adequate. The decor is OK. I was meeting a longtime friend, we did not worried to much about food itself and ended up having a really good time.

Wonderful Thai Food

By Will0928 |

Mai Thai was across the street from our room at the Hampton Inn. Both my wife and I love thai food so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. I had the Salmon which was served in a peanut sauce with broccoli and carrots. Dish also was served with rice which was delicious when mixed with the peanut sauce. Nothing but good things to say about Mai Thai.

Mai Thai Restaurant

By allcurves |

Food was really, really good. It was spicy enough that we can still enjoy the different flavors. We ordered Soft Spring Rolls, Kra Prao Seafood, Mai Thai Fried Rice & Pad Kee Mao. We got served really fast.

Good food, quick service and good value.

By VReddy |

We ate a quick lunch here and had to wait 15 mins to get a table. The restaurant is quite small and was jam-packed, thanks to a local conference happening at the convention center next door. Mostly visited by locals/tourists alike for a quick bite during lunch. Our waitress was attentive, lightning fast and courteous. We ordered chicken satay & soft spring rolls for appetizers. All our entrees were delicious and we had no complaints about our food or drinks. Worth checking out!

Authentic Thai

By Claudia P |

Delicious authentic Thai food. Busiest with pick-up/ take-out orders, so seating was not a problem. Use apps to order your takeout or order on site to go (15 minute wait).

so so meal

By J E |

Last minute decision to eat here. I think I just ordered wrong. My husband liked his. Nothing was special about mine. It was very bla. The staff was nice. They also participate in American Airlines dining program so you can get airline miles to eat here. I also thought was a tad high in price but I am sure the rent is high for this place. Will probably give one more shot and order differently. Overall environment so so.

Mai Thai Caters to Veggies

By LaurieSusan |

Went to this place because it is vegetarian friendly. On the menu they put green marks next to each entree that can be made vegetarian. They were busy at 12:30 for lunch. A tired woman showed us smilelessly to our table. The server turned out great, helpful and accommodating. We ordered the vegetarian eggrolls. They were excellent and so was the sauce. My husband got a fresh salad and me the tofu soup. Soup had lots of onions, coconut milk and mushrooms. A bit sour and tasted great. Both us women got phad thai and both men got curries, one red and the other Mussama. They both loved theirs and got it with tofu. We ladies enjoy our phad thai. I would have liked more sauce and used my husband's leftover sauce for the remainder. Then it was perfect!

Mediocre Thai Overall.

By DLPAustin |

Mai Thai is a relatively new Asian option downtown on San Jacinto. Nondescript interior (like thousands of Asian restaurants around the world). Nice patio outdoor dining option. Good was mediocre at best. Bad overdressed peanut sauced salad to start. Delicious Thai iced tea. Good coconut Tom Kha soup followed by thin not too flavorful panang beef. Wanted to like Mai Thai. Sorry man!

Take out

By Yaz |

I ordered take it from this place. ..pad thai and egg rolls, they were so-so. Maybe eating in the restaurant would change my experience.

Great Food, Great Prices

By Matthew A |

We stopped here for a bite to eat before we headed to our hotel, the server was very friendly and attentive. We got the Pad Thai and eggrolls. Both of which were very tasty. There are happy hour and lunch specials which are all reasonably priced.

Fantastic food!

By Kimraem |

We were able to get in right away. My husband and I ordered the Mai Thai fried rice and the Pad Kee Mao noodles, both were absolutely delicious! The staff was efficient and the service pretty fast. Would recommend

Another good restaurant in Austin

By molliescotland |

This was not far from our hotel so was easy accessible. The food was really good and lots of choices, very large portions so beware, best to share.

Good food.

By Czar01 |

Pros: - Brilliant food - we thoroughly enjoyed the quality and the taste of the food. - Value for money - for the price, the food and location is pretty good. Would I recommend you to go? Hands down!!! Cons (or maybe not): - We visited this place for lunch 2nd January, which could be a reason for them being slightly understaffed. There was only one individual taking care of the entire restaurant as the afternoon began which resulted in delayed service and on couple of occasions a lack of attention in what we really wanted (perhaps a miscommunication with the chef?). I would discount this as this maybe a one off incident. The team at the restaurant was quite cordial and felt like they wanted to genuinely deliver good food.

Great little place!

By Farrell R. |

I ordered a Thai Tea and Pad Kee Mao, both were excellent! The atmosphere isn't fancy, but was a perfect little lunch spot. I almost went to PF Changs next door because they have cocktails, Mai Tai has drinks but from what I remember it was beer, wine, and maybe sake.

GREAT Thai food!

By Terri S |

Everything we ordered was made fresh! The flavor layers could be tasted throughout each bite. Chicken, pork, or beef comes included in your price, but if you want shrimp or scallops there is an additional charge. We went on a Friday night with six people. We called ahead for reservations. For the six of us it was around $100. We only had water and one beer. We will definitely be back!

Good Thai Food

By worldexplorer88_11 |

Mai Thai serves good Thai food in the downtown area of Austin - you are unlikely to say it is "the best" you have eaten, but you will not be disappointed. The whole fried Tilapia is a whole fish - this means you will spend most of your meal picking out bones. The Mee Krob is okay. The stir fry dishes ample size.

Great Inexpensive Thai Restaurant - Walking Distance from Convention Center

By GregorySmith |

This is an outstanding and inexpensive Thai restaurant which is just about a block away from the Austin Convention Center. Fairly quiet place. Great food. Service is good. I highly recommend this place, if you like Thai food. You can order it really spicy, too - if you wish.

Green Curry Fried Rice is a go!

By see mei c |

Love the aromatic green curry fried rice. The portion was extremely big for an asian girl. The seafood rice was very nice too. As for pad thai, the beansprouts was not cooked enough. Thai tomyum kung was not spicy enough and not tasteful enough. The service was very good and price is also reasonable. Went twice for the nice food

Great service and great food

By Amysmoth |

Visited here on labour weekend and the place was packed. We ordered the massaman curry, egg rolls and pad Thai. The wait was around 30 minutes for our meals but this was understandable as they were busy. Cameron our waiter was very friendly and told us our meals won't be long and was very accommodating. Once our meals arrived they were faultless and at a great price too. I would definitely recommend this place and also would return!

Low cost but great food

By Phil S |

Hot curry, very reasonable prices. The Tom kar was only 4$ and enough for two. They let me substitute vermicelli for rice with the curry at no cost. cool. I would eat here all the time if I lived in Austin.

Excellent food

By funseeker777 |

Ordered coconut shrimp appetizer, seafood noodles (substituted included noodles for wide noodles), and Tai coffee. All excellent. Waiter was very attentive and suggested a few ideas.

Pleasant outside terrace, good food, prices low

By DMGAmes_Iowa |

This restaurant has a very nice raised terrace for eating out in nice weather. Very good food and at quite low prices. Fun to sit there and watch other folks milling around in the downtown historic area. Very convenient location.

Great food and service

By Ann H |

We were a bit hesitant about trying this place because of some of the reviews, but one of our conference organizers was very complimentary, so we decided to try it--I'm glad we listened to her advice. The service was prompt and the server made suggestions, and both were terrific. We asked for a bit more spice, since some reviews said the spice was not enough. I would disagree. The food is spicy enough.

Great for Happy Hour.

By AKtraveltheWorld |

Mai Thai is hidden between other restaurants away from from busy streets downtown. It's a great place to stop by and relax after work or during their week-end happy hour. Don't expect five star dining but you will be pleasantly surprised by their happy hour specials. Almost all of the appetizers are half price; so we are talking $2 spring rolls, etc. Great place and they have a few tables outside so you can bring your dog.

Chef Special - Thai Food

By Siana T |

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE... chef has a fresh menu. Food is so fresh and tasty. Good value for the cost. Nice and cozy nice for a night with friends or a cozy dinner with a loved one

good food and great selection

By Joe S |

we met for business lunch and were concerned that the service would be slow. The food selection and variety was excellent and the serviced was good. we highly recommend

Unexpected Find

By CTMans |

Mai Thai is located downtown amidst many hotels and upscale restaurants though its immediate restaurant neighbors are casual ethnic restaurants. Needed a break after several southwestern meals. Rather large thai menu with many appetizers, soups, and entrees. Tried soups and a few entrees and found them delicious. Would dine here again, even though the service was slow (but still friendly). Inexpensive.

Happy hour apps

By ACreativeNewDay |

We had Coconut shrimp and pad sew yew. We shared! Portions regular to large side and food was good! Short walk from our hotel, we Would come again.

Good Thai Food

By BJack |

A good thai restaurant with lots of choices.. really enjoyed all the food. Shared a bunch of appetizers and a few entrees with several people.

very good

By Glenn K |

The pad thai is very good. Nicely seasoned, well prepared, flavorful and tasty. Service is good too.

Avoid unless you just want cheap food.

By Rupert F |

Sadly I found the service poor and unprofessional. The food didn't seem fresh and one item was hardly warm. The had Thai was like eating microwave reheated food. I eat Thai a lot and this was the poorest in a long while. On the posative it was cheap, I didn't leave hungry and there was no lasting negative effect. The place just didn't feel loved from the interior, food to the service.

Late evening Thai

By David L |

Our hotel was just a few blocks from Mai Thai. Late afternoon snacks "will wreck your dinner" as my mom used to say and we didn't really get hungry until quite late in the evening. So risking heartburn we won't out late, at least late for us, especially since we had just arrived from the Eastern time zone. The restaurant was about half full. Service was quick. We ordered a couple of our favorites and asked for them medium hot. When I went to the rest room to wash my hands, it was easy to see into the kitchen which looked neat and clean. The food came out soon after that and was flavorful and just the right amount of heat for us. We both took boxes for the next day's lunch. Prices were pretty good for downtown Austin.

Great Flavors and Good Portion Sizes for the Price!

By Jamie W |

My husband and I were craving Thai food and Mai Thai was rated very well so we decided to check it out. We were both very pleased with our meals and you can't beat the prices. Our entire meal, which included a bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, and 2 entrees with protein, was around $60! I had leftovers, which were great 2 nights later!! The chicken satay and egg rolls were great. Perfect size-not too heavy. My husband had the Panang Curry. I first ordered the Pad Thai, which I did not like at all, but the server switched it out right away for me and got me the Pad Peanut Sauce, which was great! Both stir-fried dishes came with a side of rice. We will definitely be going back there soon! If there is a table available outside, take it! Especially on a nice, cool evening!!

Solid fresh food and clean

By MaumelleJim |

Good freshly made ingredients make this spot nice. Green curry suited my taste and was very good. Soup with lunch more like a sample than a bowl. Too bad since it was good. Waiter was pretty good at an off time. Overall, liked it and would gladly return. A base hit, but not a home run.

Great food. Very accommodating to my picky daughter.

By dnggtr |

First time here and pleasantly surprised. I ordered a shrimp dish (i can’t remember the name). The presentation was fabulous and the taste was excellent. I was looking for something with lots of vegetables and not too heavy. It was exactly what i was looking for. It was very spicy. I would probably have them back it down a notch next time i order it but the white rice helped calm it down. And my 14 year old daughter is picky but they created a simple off the menu chicken and pineapples with rice dish for her and she loved it. We will definitely go back.

Diner at Mai Thai

By csharma4 |

Place is conveniently located in downtown area near convention center. Ambiance is average. Food I ordered did not taste anything like Thai food. Manager told me that this is because they do not use MSG- not convincing.

Great service!

By 46oceangirl |

It was our last night in Texas and my daughter wanted Thai food, particularly dumplings. When we asked or ordered they weren't sure if they had any and we were like its a Saturday night, no Thai restaurant should be without dumplings, but come to find out they had them. The service was excellent and personable from start to finish. We sat outside. We had the dumplings very good, the spring rolls and pad thai and my husband a seafood noodle dish. All were happy with their meal. I have had better pad thai I'll be honest but was still very good. But overall a very good experience. The food was fresh, not salty or greasy at all.

Great Food and Service, Reasonable Price

By Davyea |

The hostess started the visit very pleasantly and the food was excellent! I went for dinner yesterday and will prob eat it again before I leave.

Downtown Austin Gem

By Aviarian |

Walking distance from the Convention Center and MetroRail stop, this small, beautifully decorated restaurant has it all -- cozy atmosphere, outstanding service and incredible food. I have eaten pad kee mao all over the U.S. and this is my favorite. It is infused with a smoky flavor that enhances the complexity inherent to Thai food. If you are lucky, the darling Jojo will serve you. The owner, Ott, often checks with tables to ensure their dining enjoyment. If you like Thai, you will almost certainly discover a favorite restaurant here, as we have.

Incredible Food

By volleygirl44 |

I went to this restaurant right across the street from my hotel since it was so convenient. Only one other group was in the place, as it was past lunch time. It filled up quickly after I was there for a few minutes, and now I know why! I ordered the grilled cod with tamarind sauce. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! The presentation was delightful as well. The waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and the service was fantastic.

Nice place, with very good food and first-rate service.

By Angela S |

I enjoyed my meal, finding the quality and price to be well-matched (under $30.00 for a nice glass of wine, an appetizer, and entree).

Great Thai Downtown

By Jeanie |

I always love coming to Mai Thai. The portions are huge, the staff is friendly, and the location is great. I always indulge myself with Thai Green Curry and take home a stir-fried noodle dish when I’m here. Parking might give you grief though so I suggest not trying to come down in the evening or walking a bit.

Great food and service

By DianeF176 |

I was there twice, once for lunch, once for dinner. The service was very good, and the menu provided many choices. The Thai Tea glasses are Texas Huge :)

My favorite Tai restaurant

By slatonjohn60 |

Outstanding Tai food! The curry was very spicy & delicious. Taste wasn’t sacrificed for heat. Service was quick & friendly. Highly recommend.

Great dining experience.

By Sherry J |

Perfect spot to have a great dinner. Extra bonus being so close to Sith Street. I had the chicken in satay peanut sauce. Absolutely delicious!

Delicious

By Christopher T |

Food was excellent and spicy upon request! Service was friendly and fun. I’d definitely dine here again. Comfortable booth seating in air conditioning. But there’s outside seating too!

Mai Kind of Thai

By Pattie Y |

Just returned from a nice authentic Thai meal a few quick blocks from JW Marriott in Austin. The greeter was happy to accomodate a table for one. Service was good.Tom Yum kaffir lime got me good to spark a few coughs.I departed from my go-to green curry and opted for waitress' suggestion of Kao Soi, curry sauce with coconut milk, fall off the bone chicken thigh, egg noodles hard to manage but very tasty. I craved more bean sprouts but overall a hearty filling meal for under $20.

Ordered to go and YUM!

By Hannah T |

I ordered the Massuman curry with Cream puffs and was very satisfied. Not only are the portions very generous, but the curry was creamy and spicy. VERY GOOD! I will definitely order again.

True Thai

By 2littletime2seeitall |

I love Thai food, but I have never eaten at a Thai restaurant where "hot" and "very hot" was really true to Thailand, at least the part of northern Thailand that I visited. That is not true of Mai Thai. The atmosphere was pleasant and quiet, the service was excellent, and when I ordered three chilis, very hot, that is what I got! I ate as much of my mussaman chicken curry as I could eat and would have taken the rest if we hadn't been staying in a hotel with no refrigerator. The serving was very generous. Brown rice comes at no additional charge. The others in my group also enjoyed their selections. The glass of plum wine I ordered was also generous. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Delicious Thai Food to Eat In or Carry Out

By dkm57 |

Ate here when we were staying across the street so we carried out. We shared a tom yum and ginger chicken. Food was hot, well-seasoned, and not overly spicy. Standard Thai offerings; restaurant was hopping on a Saturday night!

Perfect lunch on Valentines

By ArkansasTraveler244 |

This small restaurant is right downtown Austin. Since we were planning a larger feast for Valentines evening, we wanted something on the light side for lunch. We found it. The lunch special included coconut milk soup. Usually, the luncheon soup in so many places is lightly seasoned broth, but this offering was chock full of chicken and fresh mushrooms. The entrees were the typical Thai offerings, and at $9 (including the soup) were a real bargain. My wife had the Pad Thai Cashew, with pork. I opted for the Thai Ginger, with scallops (a $2 supplement). Both were excellent, with the perfect sized serving of brown rice.

Great place to dine with great service

By Rumi Sarkari |

Since we had few Veggie & Vegan guests, they provided exactly what they were looking for... Friendly service as well, thou we were late for lunch, but they were kind to accommodate us... As the kitchen was closed we could not order one of the famous deserts, but they were kind to offer us carrot juice as an alternate & not charge as well..

Wonderful Thai

By Darlene H |

My sister and I walked to Mai Thai from the convention center and really enjoyed a nice lunch! We shared two of the lunch specials - Pad Kee Mao (stir fried flat rice noodles, bell pepper, onion, fresh chili, garlic, basil and broccoli) and Mussaman Curry (peanuts, potatoes, onions and carrots) and the were both excellent! We both had the soup too! I would love to eat here again soon! We had to wait a few minutes for a table, but it was well worth the wait! Excellent service!

Great if you like Thai

By Butch J |

After several nights of steak and BBQ we were looking for something a little lighter and found this close to our hotel. The service and food were both very good and I would definately eat here again if in town. The price was very reasonable for how nice the place was and its location.

Thai done right!

By futurelawyer2005 |

It is very hard to pull off Thai. That right balance of spice, flavor, temperature, consistency and level of cookedness. They did everything right! My only complaints are that the tom yum was too full of meat, with too little mushrooms. It's supposed to be a brothy soup; it was more like solid chunks with some broth in the bowl but it was very tasty. The other thing just had to do with our particular server, who kept freaking us out with the cost of the items. Nearly everything we ordered, he kept saying "well, that's extra". I said "but it's on the menu and we're not changing it up or anything". He said that "while it's on the menu, they don't offer everything on the menu unless we order it and, to make it, it's extra". Needless to say, we still couldn't figure out what he meant so we paid $6 for tom yum instead of $5 simply bc it was on the menu but they didn't have any made so they made it for us?? Same with the Pad Pak. It wasn't a daily special thing or a lunchtime/dinnertime thing. It just was. So we paid $4 extra for food for no reason. and he bailed on us mid-meal since "his shift was over". Just weird and he doesn't represent the restaurant as a whole. the last thing is AVOID the cheese rolls. We paid $3 for 2 tootsie roll sized cheese rolls that weren't even homemade nor had any detectable cheese in them. Go with the mai thai instead. Austin is in TX and July afternoons are 100+ so the small restaurant with all glass store front was hot in places but they tried to cool it down as much as possible. Going here at night might be better.

Really good food

By RandiFayeC |

Easy dinner - made a reservation for 6pm on a Sunday. Did not need to (but better safe than sorry). Server was very attentive. I like spicy, often get Thai hot - their heat levels are a bit higher than my experience so maybe start one level lower than your usual. Portions were very generous, the substitutions I requested were accommodated graciously (I like more veggies, no rice). Tom yum soup was good, a little sweet. My chu-chi salmon was very good, would have liked a slightly crisper skin. Two at the table had tofu-basil (Pad Kra Prao), very happy with their choice. My son said his chicken satay was good. We all enjoyed our dinner. Would give a 4.5 if rating scale allowed.

Great Thai food

By Michael R |

They make terrific Thai food. It is very flavorful. The price is also very reasonable. Just be warned that their "2 peppers" is pretty spicy. I like hot food and their level 2 was almost a little too spicy for even me. Their pad thai is wonderful! Great job Mai Thai!

Great Thai!

By JW65 |

Place open till midnight. Went there last night and loved it so much me and the wife went back again tonight. Great food and nice service even at 11:30 at night!

Fantastic Thai restaurant!

By William S |

Highly recommend this Thai restaurant that is not on - but very close, to 6th street. Recommend the spring rolls and egg rolls. Best part was the amazing freshness and quality of cooking of the Thai Beef Pad Prik, noodles and Seafood dish. Perfectly spiced and seasoned. Ate outside - which was perfect - bug free and the waiter was on spot the entire evening.

noodles

By JulieandGeorge2013 |

Very fresh and authenticate, my wife has traveled through Thailand several times. We had Pad Kee Mao and the noodles were tender and light. Spice was well balanced. Service was very good.

Average

By Shacheb75 |

Thai is my favorite food and every time we travel I try to find the best Thai in the city we are visiting. On our trip to Austin, we decided to try this place. The atmosphere is good. There are tv's to watch sports, etc., and some outdoor seating. The waitress was kind of absent-minded, but she finally got things right. The food was average. It wasn't the best Thai or the worst Thai that I have had. It was just... okay. Will I go again next time we visit Austin? Probably not! But I would I go again if there are no other choices, certainly!

Nice.

By marciag2785 |

Not bad at all, we just had drinks, but the dishes going by us looked good, a bit loud, music should be little lower...

Wonderful Lunch

By Zachary K |

I try a lot of Thai restaurants when I travel, this one was a real treat. Both the Pad Thai and Green Curry were some of the best I've had. Great value as well.

Early dinner

By Todd W |

Went there with some clients for a early dinner. They had half priced appetizers which was a bonus! I ordered 3 different appetizers for the table and everyone loves them! Most of the people with us had not ever had this type of food, and they all loved it! Would go back in a minute.

Excellent!

By LisaFoxJC |

The atmosphere may not be much, situated as it is in the equivalent of an urban strip mall. But the service and food are marvelous.

Excellent meal

By Lorraine B |

Excellent tom ka gai and pad ginger. The Thai ice tea was delicious. Save room for the green tea ice cream! You'll be glad you did!

Mai Thai is good Thai!

By Kinich |

This little gem is tucked away near the convention center. We tried it twice on a recent trip to Austin. The first night, frazzled and weary from a day of traveling, we popped in to pick up some take out. The front desk staff was pleasant, took our order quickly, and had the food out in record time, which was much appreciated. The pineapple fried rice and Penang curry hit the spot. We tried them again on a weekend night and this time ate at the restaurant. The interior is dark and not terribly inviting, but the front desk staff is friendly and we were seated quickly. We tried the egg rolls this time, as well as the Tom Kha soup and both were excellent. The Thai tea was sweet, creamy and smoky all at once. The only down note was the plum wine, acidy and unpleasant, but this was a minor thing. This place has great lunch specials and great happy hour specials, and we would recommend it.

Miserable waitress

By Sandra B |

Great food, such a shame that the waitress was so miserable. She spilt food on the floor, didn't bother to clear it up. Left us with our plates with bits of food on for over 20 minutes. I am sorry to say she should not be a waitress.

Pretty decent Thai food

By Kimberly W |

Mai Thai is close to my office downtown, so we go very often for lunch. The meal sizes are large and prices reasonable....

Fantastic lunch spot

By carlv |

They have a great lunch special for $9 with your choice of salad or soup. The portions were big!!! I couldn't finish my lunch. Every dish was delicious and flavorful!!! I wanted to eat more but my tummy couldn't take any more food. Go here if you are in the area!!!

Good Hot Food

By 1xmasgirl |

Good Hot Food ! We used Uber Eats for the very first time to be delivered to our hotel. I just took a stab at this restaurant, and saw they had 2 for 1 egg rolls which cinched the deal. Aldo ordered Chicken Pad Thai. Everything arrived in a reasonable amount of time and was still hot. I would order again !

Ordered Out

By oceanliving11 |

Easy walk from the hotel. Got take-out, good food, fast service. Ordered one of the Thai soups and dumplings, hit the spot.

A place not to miss in Austin

By Christelle P |

A wonderful Thai place where you will feel like in Thailand. I am French, travelling for business, every time I am in Austin eating alone, I come here. I feel like home with amazing foods, taste and warm welcome 🤗 do not miss their dumplings neither their green papaya salad Somtum ! Delicious

Nice restaurant convienently located

By Paulmug1 |

Stopped by here for dinner and drinks and had a very enjoyable meal. I had the Mussaman Curry and my wife had Pad Thai. We both enjoyed our meals while enjoying the mild weather outside. Definitely worth a stop here.

Great Thai food and service right downtown

By GenotheViking |

This is a great Thai place with good food and service. This menu has a little of everything making it a tough decision what to order. I had tofu phad Thai and fresh spring rolls. Beware the chef cooks spicy. My one star phad Thai just about killed me but the waiter offered to take it back and bring me another. The second order was just perfect. What great service.

Great location with good food...

By nguoithucdem |

The restaurant locates at a prime location in downtown Austin. You can enjoy your great Thai food with views if you pick table outside the restaurant. Inside atmosphere is nice, too, with decent decorations. Pad Thai is definitely a try for newcomer. There are plenty of good spicy stuffs on the menu...If you visit Austin, give them a try...

Loved the tilapia!

By obdocSanJose |

Stopped by for lunch while attending a conference at convention center. My husband & I shared the whole fried tilapia in sweet chili sauce & yellow chicken curry. The restaurant serves white or brown rice included with the dish. Food was tasty, fish was fresh & service was outstanding.

Average pad thai

By Isabelle S |

I got mild pad Thai for takeout. They used wide noodles which I thought was strange. The dish didn’t have much flavor at all but t wasn’t bad. I know I ordered it mild, but there was truly little flavor added.

Nice hidden place

By Robert E |

Nice Thai place close to convention center. Pad Thai was better than average. Host was working his butt off. I noticed a ton of take out orders.

ok, but not outstanding; cheap prices

By Scott W |

Needed a spot for a quick lunch during a meeting break; arrived and dining room full, wait at door, but I was single so thought it would be quick seating. Hostess took at least 5 minutes to acknowledge me, first flag. Granted she was busy bussing tables and managing the wait list; once I got seated things went more smoothly; lunch menu is simple and cheap--I got out for less than $15 including tip. Included soup and a small side salad (du jour); Now the Pad Thai noodles were not cooked enough and were too al dente; but overall good flavor.

Authentic and delicious!

By davekimkennedy |

We ordered the drunken noodles and panang curry. We asked for it to be extra spicy, and it was. But so tasty and delicious! We were visiting from out of town and were hoping to go back, but didn't get the chance. We would definitely return if we go back to Austin.

Good thai in the middle of downtown

By Abigail M |

This thai place is pretty standard for the middle of downtown Austin. The dishes are very good, and the wine/beer selection is also up to par. There was nothing extremely special about the little place, oh yeah, it's definitely a smaller restaurant, but the service was good, and if you're craving thai, which you probably are, definitely go here.

Go Here & Skip the Area Chain Restaurants

By Shannan L |

This restaurant has authentic Thai food. If you don't like Thai this is not for you. The hostess was very nice. She immediately told us it was Happy Hour with half off appetizers and beer. They have many Asian beers. We ordered Spring roll appetizers. All 3 of us had different main courses. All was Delicious. Our bill was a total bargain with apps, 2 drinks, & 3 meals it was less than $45. Very affordable. We ate at two chain restaurants nearby and this was much better for value, service, & taste.

I am a Thai Pig

By frequenttravelerdave |

I am a Thai food pig. I will choose Thai food over most other cuisines This place created the best Thai meal I 've had in a long time. The food server was fun and engaging. She suggested we try the soup of the day. It was tasty

Home cooked Thai food

By Aubanel |

The food is simple, good, and inexpensive. Thai restaurants can be a little pretentious, but not this one. The curries, stir fry, and fried rice are all good. The "one pepper" dishes were hot enough for me.

DO NOT DOORDASH.........

By Hannah T |

Excellent food. NO to doordash.com. Person left my food at another building after calling me 6 times for directions. I hope this person doesn't work at the restaurant......i even texted a picture of the front of the building. Geesh!

Yummy food and quick to go service

By Belle W |

I was looking for thai and found some good stuff here - gluten-free green curry with chicken and pad prik king. Super delicious and no reaction from gluten so that's great.

Meh

By Charlie S |

Our service was very good, however the food (at least what I had) was very bland. Those I was dining with seemed more happy.

Tasty Thai food

My daughter and I were at the convention center looking for a place to have a light late lunch. Mai Thai was open and it was happy hour with 50% off many appetizers. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls- wonton soup and a Yum Woon Sen salad all to share. Holy SMOKES the portions were huge. The spring rolls were burrito sized. The wonton soup was filled with veggies- it was a meal in itself and could easily have served 4. The Yum Woon salad was slightly spicier than I expected but it was delicious. Well worth a trip!

Great lunch place

By PanamaVagabond |

Thai cuisine is not first choice of eating places because of a high protein, low carbohydrate, and low sodium diet my cardiologists has me on. However I did eat a wonderful dish of lemongrass noodle vermicelli noodles. The noodles were topped with scallops, lemon grass, onion and carrots. Lunch also included a side choice of salad or soup of the day. Lunch hour plus downtown Austin equals a very busy restaurant. Our hostess greeted us and immediately seated us. We were promptly served water and menus. Allowing us an appropriate amount of time to review the menu, and make our selection, our server proceeded to take our requests. The side orders of soup and salad were served to us in an amazingly short period of time. The main dishes were also brought out very promptly. Service was extremely efficient given the volume of customers present. Great food, great service, and great company. All the ingredients of a wonderful and memorable lunch… Buen provecho, Panama Vagabond

A real find!

By Dorothy M |

Thanks to our hotel’s recommendation, we found this place close by our hotel. The staff are outstanding, service was very friendly, helpful and the waitress stopped to chat near the end of the meal and even enjoyed our humor “that was very satay-sfying “ (groan) The food was fresh and delicious, waitress kept us from over-ordering, and brought food out at the right pace to allow us time to enjoy each round. Well-priced and worth a visit. We would definitely eat here again.

I went here for lunch and the green curry was very good. Good, reasonable price. The place gets very busy.

Very good Thai restaurant

By FSR2003 |

The food was very good, the prices were good, the service was very good, the location was very good. Large portions, great for sharing a dish. I have nothing negative to say about my dinning experience at Mai Thai.

A welcome respite during SXSW

By Deb I |

We really didn't get why this place wasn't packed. We loved the curries so much we went back for pad thai and Tom Kha soup. The curries are excellent, the soup pretty good, and the pad thai quite good. The only thing I wouldn't order again is the chicken satay. Was just so so. They had free wi-fi, a/c, clean bathrooms and good food. What a great find so close to the convention center.

Awful service, good thai food

By Markus N |

I had a visit to mai thai as i stayed in a hotel right across the road. First of all, it was a young lady that worked there that was spectacular. If she was my waiter the impression would be alot different. However, i was not lucky to enough to be seated at one of her tables. My waiter did not even have time to take my order. She was rushing and i had to talk very quickly (at least i felt it that way). This was very uncomfortable. I had a few questions, but before i could ask she was on her way to deliver the food to the next table. The restaurant was not full. I ordered the green curry and fried rice. Good food and can recommend it. But i will probably go to another thai reataurant next time im in Austin.

Very nice Thai restaurant

By Krell82 |

I can only recomment this place. The food was very nice, the server very attentive and the price is good as well. I really enjoyed my meal. I can recommend the green curry. Yummi.

A fun discovery in downtown Austin

By PAC Texas |

I was working at SXSW this March and ate at a different restaurant downtown near the Convention Center every day. I was surprised to find this little "hole in the wall" Thai restaurant, I have lived in Austin for 15 years and had never heard of it. It's small, it's unpretentious but it's REALLY good! Super authentic, reasonably priced, quick enough to get in and out for lunch on a busy day. If you like Thai food I recommend finding it and checking it out. One of the days I ate there it was cold outside and the soups were really warming. The servers can answer questions and make recommendations.

Real Authentic Thai Food

Amazing Thai food, from the UK visiting Austin and stumbled across this little gem. If you ask for 'Thai Hot' you won't be disappointed. The waitress was really great, friendly & got the food just right. Will definitely be back. Thanks guys.

Delish!!

I’m picky about my Thai but this place was crazy good! We went for lunch and it measured up to Thai in bigger cities!

Great taste of Thai foods in Austin Downtown

By Sasie17 |

I went with my husband and his friends’ family and it’s so joyful to visit this restaurant. The appetizers are yummy such as Chicken Satay, Fried Egg Tolls, Fried Coconut Shrimp. The foods are tasty and in a big portion. I’m Thai and I’m good with cooking Thai foods so I can say that it’s a good or bad after taste and yes the foods here are awesome. I asked the helpful waitress named Ms Jojo to suggest any spicy menu for Thai people like me and she told me to try Lad Nah Noodle. It’s not a spicy menu but if you add 2-3,teaspoons of roasted Thai chilies in it, you’ll get very hot and spicy dish haha. I’m glad this restaurant keeps a good standard of Thai taste. Its location is in downtown so it’s hard to find a parking lot in front of the restaurant so I suggest you to walk there and park your car at parking space nearby.

Great food awful service

By SouthernTrifecta |

The food here is very good, with kudos for the basics and applause for the soups. Portions are large and everything is fresh. Four of us dined together at lunch. We all had different dishes and were very satisfied. Two things - it is usually very crowded at lunch and the service is lousy. Our waitress disappeared and we waited forever before approaching the hostess/cashier. This woman was absolutely rude, defensive and poorly prepared for dealing with customers with civility. Indeed, in all my life I don't recall a worse person assigned to a role like that. An employee of mine who behaved as she did would be fired on the spot. Too bad. It's a long walk from our office and we all agreed we would not come back. FYI - check my other reviews. I have never summarized anyone this way. I am easy to get along with and enjoy people. Really surprised and disappointed.

Best Thai Food in Austin

By TravelWell040 |

What a pleasure it was to finally come across a Thai restaurant with good food, service, and peanut sauce that is fresh and not tasting as if it came from a can. Mai Thai is convenient to most of the Austin downtown hotels although it is somewhat hidden by the surrounding dining establishments along San Jacinto. The wait staff is attentive and management checks on the customers to ensure everything is going well. The soft spring rolls with fresh peanut sauce were excellent. The Stir Fry Pad Peanut Sauce with Tofu is cooked to perfection. The Tilapia was a full fish well cooked. The restaurant is open from 11 am until midnight Friday & Saturday. In summary this is the best Thai restaurant we have visited in the Austin area. We will be back.

Causal Sunday lunch

By EDLC007 |

The food is not authentic enough. If you want real Thai food, go to the one at the Galleria in Bee Cave. The brown rice is too watery.

Delicious Thai

By jim r |

Mai Thai is a very casual restaurant with extremely reasonable prices. We enjoyed some of the best Pad Thai in quite a while, and the Duck curry was really authentic. It was so close to a 5 rating, but the pork that came with the excellent Green curry was a little overcooked (which may be typical in this type restaurant). If you want excellent Thai food, this is a place to consider.

Comfortable, Cozy, Great food at affordable prices!

By Nicole M |

Food was great, busy but was able to get a table by just walking in. Only a 10 minute wait. 25-30 minute wait time for our food. Friendly staff. They could probably use more wait staff as too many tables for just 2 wait staff but overall good visit. Will visit again.

Great dinner after movies at the Paramount

By MyZiggyMan |

We walked to Mai Thai after seeing 'Lawrence of Arabia' at the Paramount, and were so glad we did. Staff was very friendly & helpful. Food was excellent. We had crispy eggrolls & tom kha soup (so good!) for starters. For dinner, we had pad kee mao with chicken and the whole fried fish in chili sauce. Both were excellent. Very spicy and perfectly balanced, fresh and flavorful. Will definitely return.

Great Thai food off the beaten path

By KandK_travel |

The food was great and the happy hour appetizer prices were a steal. The service was almost non-existent as we had to walk over to our waiter who was sitting at a booth eating his own food in order to get rice and refills of our drinks.

A nice Thai restaurant in downtown Austin

We walked in and got seated right away. The food was very good. You can opt for brown rice which was nice. The servers were very responsive.

Good food

By Judy L |

Good food. Lots of vegetarian choices, almost every entree can be made with your choice of chicken beef, tofu. Portions are ample. Service good. Prices very reasonable.

Love Thai!

Love this place. Lad Nhar was fantastic! Did not disappoint. Friend had snapper which was likewise very good!

Taste like nothing

W ordered 4 dishes. 2 were good and 2 were terrible, ordinarily , Sugary sauce. Nothing special. Not tasty . Slow service.

Good Food !

By Tanaz C |

This restaurant was a wonderful dining experience. The ambience was not that special however the food was good it's easy eats and a quick turnaround on the order. We highly recommend the Tom Kha soup and the mango with sticky rice dessert was wonderfully delicious. The Pad Thai and t the red chicken curry we're also fairly decent in taste and quantity.

My Thai Tastes Great

By BritchipKid |

How can one town have so many great places to eat. We did not plan to go to this restraurant, but a local pointed it out. The food was reasonably priced and very flavorful. Service was fast and attentive.

Yummy Thai

By OtagoKen |

I popped in for dinner while in Austin for South by South West. The service was very good and I was seated quickly and once I ordered everything arrived very quickly. The food was fresh and flavoursome and great value. Highly recommended.

The best part was the service

By davegowell |

The hostess and waitress were both very, very nice. The service was excellent. The decor was more modern than most Thai restaurants. Parts of it were beautiful. But personally, I prefer traditional Thai decor. The Spring Rolls were bland and smelled a little like stale oil. The Pad Kee Mao was very tasty and had a nice assortment of meat and vegetables, but the noodles were overdone and a bit soggy.

Good Thai

By dechiaroma |

Small but good thai joint. Waitress was patient to help us order the plates that had less spicy. We ended up very happy with the shrimp appetizers and than a noodles dish. Close to ACC so a must go for all SXSWers.

Incredibly loud, mediocre food

By Seth S |

Before going, I read mostly positive reviews about this restaurant, but none of them mentioned how loud it is inside. The restaurant was almost full when I arrived and if I had been with somebody, it would have been almost impossible to talk. The food was really bland with few fresh herbs and spices. Unless you are desperate for Thai food adjusted to the American palate, I do not recommend this place.

Good Austin Texas Thai Cuisine

By GeeBen1 |

This is a quaint little Thai restaurant just across from the Austin Convention Center, in a row of several restaurants on San Jacinto Blvd. right next to each other. The décor is warm, modern Thai, and comfortable. The service is fair and a little slow. But the food is quite tasty and spiced well. I had the delicious Tom Yum soup with chicken that was spicy with lemongrass (like it should be), with onions, tomatoes and cilantro. My main course was the pork red curry with Thai eggplant, bamboo shoots, peppers and basil over white rice, that was absolutely delicious. You can top all of your dishes with the selection of traditional Thai hot sauces (which I always look for at a Thai restaurant) to your taste. We also had the bacon fried rice which is stir fried with bacon, egg, onions, scallions, tomatoes and garlic at the table, and it was absolutely mouth watering. Overall, this is a very good above average Thai restaurant with all the traditional dishes and more, cooked tastefully and is authentic. Prices are fairly cheap and its very convenient to the surrounding hotels and convention center. Kitchen closes at 10 on weekdays, which seemed early around there and service could be improved but overall a solid choice for authentic Thai food. Would certainly eat there again.

Sooooo Good

By darcydog2 |

We had the Pad Thai and we actually asked if they would make a Thai omelet. We usually get Thai omelet at other thai restaurants and it wasn't on the menu but they were happy to make it and added shrimp. It was perfect!!! They should add this to their menu. ! It was excellent!!

Good food, poor setvicr

By TrishP2017 |

The food is good & comes out of the kitchen quickly. Service was poor. Place was empty but I was told “Be right back” as the menu was dropped off. I ordered a glass of wine & an entree. Entree was dropped off but no wine appeared. I asked another waiter who made eye contact and shrugged his shoulders...not his problem. Finally got the attention of my waitress who brought the wine when my meal was almost done. No apologies.

Pretty good food, OK service

By Hugh2004a |

Green curry was very good. Wife's stir fry dish was not very good. Service was slow and inattentive. Would eat there again, but won't crave it.

Full of Flavor!

By Dara Brietzke |

Some of the best Thai food I’ve had. I had the pineapple curry with tofu and my husband had a noodle dish. Both were extremely flavorful and fresh. The service was great and very quick!

Thai approved!

By ARodriguezP |

We met with some friends at this spot located in the heart of downtown Austin but weren't sure what to expect because when we arrived the place was not very busy at all. Now I am quite familiar with authentic Thai food because my Thai partner and myself work in his family's Thai restaurant so our standards are high. We shared the fresh spring rolls and they were good but the sauce was lacking flavor,we followed this by a panang curry with beef and this dish was as good as any I've had elsewhere,my partner also agreed that the curry was prepared authentically. Service was adequate, attentive without being overbearing which was fine with me because we wanted to catch up with our friends. Would definitely return next time we're in town!

There's so much better downtown

By Hannah K |

I was staying downtown and wanted Thai Food and this was walking distance from my hotel. It wasn't bad but there's so much better downtown, I would go somewhere else. I got a peanut sauce dish with tofu and it was okay, I was just disappointed. I would not go again.

Food was very good

By Jet10951 |

Green curry chicken was very good and I will come back again... was a bit warm but very good... place was nice and cozy

Good Food

By CheapThrills |

My wife and I stumbled upon this place by accident when we were looking for a quick bite. The place was busy and that was a good sign. We were seated promptly and the service was friendly enough. I ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp and my wife had the Yellow Curry with chicken. The food was good, but not exceptional - a little bland compared to other places we're used to. They did have a good variety of lunch specials though, all of which provide good value. We'd eat here again.

Good Food

By Ashwin K |

Waitress was good but the manager was a little off. However, the food is very good. I ordered something that was spicy and it turned out to be very spicy, so make sure you enquire about low, med and high spicy.

Best lunch!

By SCM1955 |

Our hotel was across the street and after check in, we were ready for lunch. Looking down from our window, we saw a little strip with this restaurant. We had no preconceived ideas and didn’t even look it up first. There were 3 of us and the restaurant was virtually empty which is not usually a good sign. However, I can say this is a hidden gem and shouldn’t be overlooked. Everything was seasoned well and fresh. The service was friendly and attentive. The location is adjacent to multiple hotels and the convention center.

Beyond Flavorful!

By Spink72 |

In an area chock full of steakhouses wife and I decided to do something different checked out this small Thai restaurant and it did not disappoint. Both the Beef Mussaman Curry my wife ordered Beef Pad Kee Mao I ordered were lovely to look at and loaded with flavor! The seasoning and ingredients were perfect. Too, the portion sizes were generous and prices were reasonable - if we’re back in ATX in the future we’ll gladly return to Mai Thai.

Tasty Thai

Really enjoyed my take out of Sweet and Sour soup and Pad Thai - would definitely go back . Very nice service as well

Good Thai Food

By Elizabeth M |

Went for dinner on a Sunday night with some friends. We ordered the larb salad with pork and asked for lettuce (for wrapping) instead of rice, which was very, very good -- though mind you, a bit spicy. I ordered a bowl tom kha soup, which I loved. One of us ordered a pot of the tom yum, which was also quite good. For my entree I got the green curry rice and added onions and tomatoes -- it was very spicy and 100% delicious. My other friend ordered the pad see ew with chicken, which was also very, very good. Would recommend.

Best Asian food I’ve tasted

By Roberto L |

First time at this restaurant and we were extremely impressed with the quality of the food. I had the red snapper and my spouse had a combination stir fry. All the ingredients were very fresh which gave the food a rich, amazing taste. They bring you a selection of spices to add on which gave the flavor an additional burst because we love spicy food. I will definitely go back to this place when we’re in Austin again.

Really good

By Maggymuffin |

Found this restaurant off of trip advisor and decided to believe the reviews. Glad we did! Had the pineapple fried rice with chicken and it was beyond amazing. The green curry chicken could perhaps use more spice but nothing to complain about. Nice place. Reasonable prices. Excellent service. Yum

Nice Thai Food

By TravelerPaul_12 |

We ordered takeout, so can only offer opinions on the food. Our meals were well-prepared and flavorful. Good eggrolls. Nice options for stir-fries, curry dishes, and fried rice. Some spicy; some not spicy. Vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Very Good Thai Food in Downtown Austin

By SeanOden |

Mai Thai is a Thai restaurant in the heart of downtown Austin, an area where there are many many choices of places to eat. It is a pretty standard place in terms of décor, nothing fancy or special. I like Thai food, and decided to try Mai Thai, in the hope that the punning name of the place was not the best thing about it. The place was not very busy when I came in around 6:30 on a Friday night but did start to fill up by the time left. Service was efficient, and the server was helpful when I asked him some questions about the menu. I selected egg rolls ($5). These had ground pork as their main ingredient, with bean thread noodles, cabbage, carrots and onion. They came out hot and were very good, so off to to a good start. There are other egg roll options, as well. For the main course I ordered Kra Prao seafood ($16), with brown rice. This turned out to be an extremely generous dish, served on a fish-shaped platter. It included shrimp, squid, scallops, and mussels with fresh chili, garlic, onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, and of course basil. This was a very good and very filling dinner. I did not specify any level of spiciness, but it turned out to have a bit of a kick, although not anything beyond my comfort level. So, yes, if you are in downtown Austin and looking for Thai food, Mai Thai is a good choice. I thought the prices were very reasonable. I'd be happy to eat there again (in fact I may just do that before I leave town), and recommend it to others.

Good late evening Thai

By Wyldecamp |

We were looking for a place to eat close to our hotel in Downtown Austin and it was later in the evening so this place was close to our hotel. They seemed a little disorganized at first but it was a very busy weekend in Austin and a lot of places were hectic. Once we were finally seated it was a very comfortable place and service was fantastic. The food is very good and they have a good mix of foods that are really spicy and some that are not as spicy so it fits everyones taste well. We ordered several plates and then all shared. The soup was fantastic and all the dishes were good and served in a timely manner. Our waiter was very nice and attentive as well as helpful with suggestions. It has that "Small town local" feeling to the place even though it is in the middle of the city.

Quick Lunch/Good Lunch

By Craig W |

In town for a conference and needed a good, quick lunch. Small place with good food and selection. Service was prompt and I was in and out.

Good Food, Great Service

By Njoytravl |

Tried Mai Thai for the first time last night. My husband and I love Thai food, so we are probably fairly good judges. I had the Pad Thai, and it was very good, but not great. My husband had a spicy seafood dish which he liked very much. The egg roll we had before the entrees was just OK. Our waitress was very attentive and really gave us great service throughout the meal. She brought me extra cilantro and lime for my Pad Thai, and also boxed up our leftovers. Not too many customers there, but it was a Monday night. Would probably go again.

Spicy food

By Sylvain |

This restaurant offered good spicy thai food. We don't encounter too many thai restaurant that dare to spice their food up anymore so it was nice to see that Mai Thai does. The restaurant is a bit small so book in advance. The service was good and the flavors better than average. A good place to eat in downtown Austin.

Good Thai Restaurant in downtown Austin

By TalTrent |

Hubby and I came here for dinner. We ordered a pot of Po Tak which is a seafooTomYum Soup. It had shrimps, mussels, squid, scallops, mushrooms, and all the other goodies all of which I like. This soup though is clear and not reddish in color like the atom Yum Soup we are used to, and the flavor is milder. Nevertheless we enjoyed it. I pot is just a perfect serving of soup for 2 people. I ordered the Pla Lard Prik which is a huge fried tilapia fish in a sweet and sour chili sauce. The fish was crispy fried to perfection, the way I like it, but I didn’t like the sauce. The red chili sauce was too thick for my taste and all I can taste was that sweet thickness and salt. I think the taste of the sauce didn’t have balance and harmony for me. While my husband ordered himself a Pad Ped with pork as his chosen meat. This dish is a stir fried rice dish with red and black peppers, krachai (a Thai aromatic herb), onion and chili in a special red curry sauce. My husband enjoyed his meal. Overall it was a good meal. Also remember they close for a break from 3:30pm-5pm. As for the ambience, I like the place a lot. It gives you a great ambience for a meal, it is clean (including the restroom), and the service is great! I recommend you try it.

Mediocre

By bwnm |

Reasonable atmosphere and service, but the food is below average, even by the low standards of Thai restaurants in the US. Avoid the satay, which was absolutely terrible - the worst I have ever had anywhere.

Good Thai food in a pinch

By Zaggity |

I love Thai food and saw this restaurant near where I was staying and walked in. I had Salmon and it was good but smothered in too much sauce for my taste. It was a good cut of Salmon. I would probably go back and try something else. It would be more fun to share dishes with a group.

Food much better than outside view of the place

By frankreds2 |

From the outside you think that is a typical fast food restaurant, but when yo go in, the waitresses know perfectly the menu and the taste of the dishes are great. Delicious. The waiter told me the Curry was their specialty but I asked for the noodles and they were awesome !!! I had to ask for a spicy sauce because I always have my food like that, and they bring to me immediately like 6 different type of sauces to choose. Great place to have an informal dinner and feel the taste of Asia. I asked for the local ber Austin Amber, a must in this area !

Good and Spicy

By Steven K |

We were staying in a hotel a few block away and were directed to this small and friendly Thai food oasis. The food was great. They have an extensive food menu, with a short yet good beer listing. When in town, we will go again.

Uh... Can I have several dozen egg rolls to go please?

By Scott S |

Yes, the egg rolls... Everything we had was very good at Mai Thai's. The Peanut Pad Thai, the noodle bowl, the Mango sweet rice desert was awesome.. But those egg rolls... Have you ever had an egg roll where the crust was so thick you thought you may need a dental check up after you bit into it? Have you every had an egg roll where it was so greasy from the deep fringing you had to use two napkins to sop up what was dripping down your chin? Mai Thai's egg rolls are covered with a thin delectably crunchy exterior that was mysteriously, but pleasurably, lacking in greasiness! Everything was great but those egg rolls continue to mystify and entrance me!

Good food, friendly service

By Tom M |

Very consistent food offer at Mai Thai. Took my wife and daughter for dinner and met a friend of mine there as well. Food was good and service was friendly as well, as it has been on our past visits.

Great Thai food!

By ccurtis35 |

Enjoyed dinner here and would return. Portions were large, food was very good, and be sure to let them know how spicy you like it. Waitress was so fun, we had a great experience and I recommend it!!

Good Thai food with nice service in downtown Austin not fare from the conference center. Ask for "Thai spicy" 🌶 to go for the real deal! Will come again.

Quick dinner after work

By Carolyn S |

My husband and I went here for a quick dinner after work and the food was great, the service was great and it's value for money. We did have the whole restaurant to ourselves on a monday night!

Yummy thai

By ChuckB67 |

I'm down here with my daughter enjoying good food that I'm deprived of in my hometown. This was a good place! The service was great and the food killer. We made it for happy hour and got some appetizers which were great and then got soup, Tom khai which was good. Then I got a curry, coconut seafood noodle dish which was good. My daughter got pod se ewu which was great. Overall a great eating experience with good ambience. Bill was mid 80's with a bottle of wine. Not disappointed!

No tip

By Koffee741 |

The reason this place gets two stars is that the food was great. Hats off to the chefs....decent portion sizes and tasty combinations (like bacon and tofu). Me and my husband left feeling very full. Unfortunatly, the same praise cannot be said of the service. We are both in the service industry in the UK and will always honour the wait staff by leaving a decent tip. This is the first time ever that we left nothing (we understand this is a major faux pa in the usa but that was how bad the service was). The waitress we had was an Asian woman with tattoos and she was friendly and attentive to start. However, we got our starters and then main course and she did not take the empty plates from the starters away. We ended up having to put them on the seat next to us and she never removed them. She never came back to do a check back and we were sat for 25 minutes after we had finished our food before we acknowledged by anyone working there. During this time, we noticed that some people came in and waited by the door to be seated but ended up walking out because no one saw to them. My husband was sat in a position to notice that one of the servers ( a tall blonde girl) was sat on the side behind a frosted glass screen eating food. The servers had just jointly cleared a large table and they all seemed more interested in paying attention to the other large table. There were only actually three tables in the place while we ate and still we were ignored by all the staff. I asked for my food to be boxed up so I could take it away and the waitress returned with a box. And then gave it to me. My husband ended up having to scrape my food into the box. What kind of service is this? If the food had not been so good, we would have walked out without paying.

Excellent Thai

By Happy Mamma |

We had to feed over 20 students and mentors on a recent robotics competition in Austin. Mai Thai spent the time to get this long order right, used sturdy boxes for our order, and included all the needed utensils. They noted which dishes were a 4 spicy on top, but it would have been nice if they had also written what each dish was on the lid instead of having us open/guess, but overall, the food was delicious and service was great. I would recommend them if you are in town. Easy to walk there from most downtown venues including the Hyatt, 6th street, and UT if you like to walk.

Very tasty Thai !

By JurisDr |

This was rated as the top Thai restaurant in Urban Spoon, and it did not disappoint. I went for a late lunch around 3:00 p.m. They have great happy hour specials. The food was very tasty and authentic. Overall, great experience and highly recommended.

Great food

By Jay H |

We ordered take out from here a few nights ago and it was delicious. Being in downtown in Austin some of the restaurants can be pretty pricy however Mai Thai had great food, good prices, and good portions. Can't wait for the next feed!

Excellent meal, friendly staff

By allicatag |

I'm attending a conference in Austin and wanted to pick up a meal to go to take back to my hotel for later. Found Mai Thai by accident only a block from the convention center. The hostess was friendly and helpful. Food was ready in about 10 minutes, and when I reheated the dishes and sat down for dinner a few hours later, everything tasted fresh and delicious! I had shrimp spring rolls, Tom Yum soup and pad kee mao (wonderfully spicy!) I will most definitely be back!

Let's face it.... it is a mix of US/ Thai restaurant

By Confmanager |

Surely I cannot say it was the best. And true I must not compare it to the restaurants I lived in Thailand. But I was disappointed in a sense where they privileged the client's taste I suppose. So yes for sure you have a FULL plate. But does it make the taste? no.... not always. So you want to taste other than US or tex-mex food. You can try. If you are looking for a moment with friends and want a new adventure of food without getting scared you may go there. But if you are looking for a real thai it is not the one. but for money spent it is ok.

Good thai food

By Vish101 |

We have done our fair share of Thai places and this is one of the better ones. I ordered Pad Kee Mao- the waitress warned me that it would be spicy. It was - but pretty good as well. I would recommend it.

Authentic Thai, if you are brave enough...

By David P |

The cooks are authentic. I ordered the "Thai hot" which is off the charts for the local folk, but for me was Fantastic! The red curry with pork was delicious and the huge pile of shrimp fried rice was a day after breakfast just begging for a night out in beautiful Austin.

Perfection!

By Katie H |

I don’t know why anyone would give this place less than a 5/5. Every single thing we ordered was fresh, hot, flavorful, and prompt! Our server was a wonderfully sweet young woman that was funny and attentive and accurate. The cheese rolls and dumplings (appetizers) were both exceptional. The Tom Kha pot of soup was bubbling hot and packed full of all the right flavors and ingredients. Our entrees and wine were exceptional and paired perfectly. I would highly recommend Mai Thai to anyone in Austin! I look forward to our next visit!

Very good Thai close to convention center

By Palousegal2017 |

A fairly small Thai place very close to the convention center with friendly service and very reasonable prices. Portions are good - can easily take some home if you want. I had egg rolls and ginger chicken. The level of spice was what I had asked for and the flavors were great. I would definitely go back.

Great happy hour!

We wanted Thai food close enough to walk to from our hotel and found this gem on San Jacinto. Small but quaint with good service and great food!

Great food and location

This place is great for business travelers because it's within walking distance of many hotels. The food is top notch and super fresh. We ordered an appetizer and a main dish. The food was fresh and tasted so good. Be careful on the spicy level as non-Texans may not like it level 3. Great place and easy to find. Give it a try like It did.
