We were spending a few days in San Antonio. I saw this restaurant on Eater San Antonio's "Best New Restaurants in San Antonio." The chef is from Central Mexico, so it is not traditional Tex-Mex (Think discada and guajillo). We started with Taquitos con Guacamole (This is the first review for the restaurant and I cannot post pics yet). We had the Enchiladas Maiz and Enchiladas Verdes (Again I wish I could post pics). NOTE: It is BYOB, so you are free to bring your favorite alcoholic beverage for Mexican food.

The worst customer service ever starting with the host all the way down to the manager also said was the owner . I guess not having status as a regular customer means something at this place to be seated till they say so . We decided to wait 1:30 minutes for us to be seated and were able to see the type of service they would give to customers coming in as the host would on give a reasonable wait time to those who either she knew or something . We were a party of 7 no kids and we know our size table takes longer than others and we are used to that but the thing that triggered me was when this young lady seats the same size table before us because of relationship they have or something. So I spoke up on that in a polite way but wasn’t getting anywhere so I asked to speak to a manager that ended up being the owner and that in it self was worst disappointment as he got aggressive with my wife and me and trust me I have the video to prove that unfortunately. This restaurant is a bias, owned and trained staff unacceptable in any public establishment.

Absolutely loved the ambiance and delicious food Maíz offered. This was our family’s second visit and again it was a hit! It was a beautiful evening so my daughters chose to sit outside! The service was impeccable. We started with fresh guacamole and chips. We then moved onto flautas, street tacos, green enchiladas and pozole! All were delicious treats! I can’t wait to return!

The wait to be seated is told to be a long time and when you see that other people you know arrive and jump the line saying that they were already on the list and the owner allows it anyway. The owner is an arrogant person and does not care what the customers think. He says that in the end they come more and need to read all the reviews. They think they are arrogant.
You gotta go!
Absolutely delicious ambience and they treat you like family - you must try omelet norteno! The pancakes come with it including refried beans for dipping !
