We really enjoyed ourselves here.. delightful service and EXCELLENT food!

It doesn't get any better. The health department gave them a 98 for cleanliness. I'm giving them a 100 for everything else. The food is perfectly cooked and is a blend of subtle flavors and tastes that cause you to eat slowly and savor every bite. We went at lunch and the beauty of the food is matched by the soft beauty of the restaurant design and the sweet, gentle service. The prices are very good and they even have lots of parking. I think I'll go back. Again and again.

I have been wanting to check out this Thai restaurant for forever and finally got the chance to. First off let me say I absolutely love the location and ambiance of this restaurant. The hostess was super friendly but gave us an odd seat at a 6 top table next to a really loud family, was hoping for a smaller more quiet table since there were just two of us. The menu was everything I was hoping for and totally made up for the screaming babies in my ear though!! Was disappointed with our server in the end though, she basically ignored our table and we ended up being taken care of mostly by the bartender and passing servers. Also, she ended up giving my boyfriend and I split checks at the end..? I recognize it's 2017 and all but when you can tell a couple is clearly on date night you should prob just assume chivalry isn't completely dead and keep it all on one check. đ.

Nice place, really, and the only downside was that the server was over-extended. Had the feeling it's a mom and pop, and the daughter - alone on the floor - faced a lunch rush beyond expectations. Still. Everyone was gracious, prices are fine, and we were still served fairly promptly. Will be back, for sure.

First time for my wife and I to dine here and we really enjoyed the overall experience. We sat in one of the low to the ground tables near a nice corner window up a 1/2 flight of stairs. Service was excellent, the food was really tasty, and prices are reasonable. Will return for sure.

I've been going to Mali for 20 plus years. They've recently renovated and expanded their restraurant. LOVE the new space. Very open and the bar is very cool. I was just there last night --- had my fill of yummy sushi and saki. YUM! Happy Trails! TheSocialSingle.com

As locals we have a lot of options but Mali is always on my quick Thai or lunch with a bit of a fare. The expansion is awesome, the atmosphere is nice and more "thai" - food excellent as always with traditional dishes leading the way - pad thai, curry, masaman... big fan of the Thai but sushi is great as well.

Our first time at Mali and it was hopping. We made reservations and sat outdoors on the covered patio on a glorious spring night. It is located in a nice residential area. All the food was delicious including larb, sushi, Thai specialties, etc. We even imbibed Thai beer and tasted the cocktails. The service was very friendly and the dishes came out fast. Everyone was clearly enjoying their meals. And in true Thai fashion, the dishes were pretty to look at as well as tasty. It was a bit loud/ The staff was clearly Thai. The sushi was top notch and fresh. I feel like a sushi restaurant has to stay on top of their game to succeed, and Mail was easily doing just that. There were few local kids there enjoying the food also.

Ordered sushi and a sushi special. Both were fresh and very good. For dinner we ordered Shrimp with Crispy Fried Basil and a super hot shrimp dish (forgot the name). Big if those were really delicious but I think we favored the shrimp and basil best. For dessert we ordered the traditional mango and sticky rice with coconut cream. A perfect ending. Great meal. Great service. First time here. Will definitely be back.

First time here, came on a recommendation and glad we did,my wife and me shared 4 Appetizers and 3 were really good, the Spring rolls not so much.Thin and crunchy and not a lot of taste, pass on these. Our friends enjoyed their meals as well and we all plan to return.

We ordered the Yin Yang appetizer which was crunchy with potato and cheese inside as well as the chicken thair mushroom soup which was wonderful. Our entrees were the pork and green beans as well as the massama chicken. Entrees were served with rice and well priced and portioned. The restaurant has a neat vibe and presentation of food is beautiful. Great spot for a date or with friends.

This was our third time eating here in the past year since we discovered it. We are not local, but it is on our list to visit whenever we are in the Atlanta area. It is in the Virginia Highlands area, and I would describe it as a "feel-good neighborhood" restaurant. We go for the Thai food, but they also have sushi. The food is great--you can even "graze" on the appetizers. There is a full bar. Food and wine prices are reasonable for the city. Service was extremely efficient--they use a "team effort", not just one assigned server. Service is fairly quick, we waited to order until after sipping our cocktails. Tables are alittle close to each other, but that gives it a nice local feel (and you can eyeball the different dishes served!). There is plenty of free parallel parking on the street.

So we used to go to this place religiously years and years ago, we left ATL after 9/11 and are now out in Colorado. Yeah, we still get back, and when we do we try hard to go here, old neighborhood and all...point is, this place is a sure thing, while a walk from Virgina/Highlands area, you'll probably be in your car anyway, no one really does anything else in Atlanta but drive. So make a reservation out on the patio and enjoy anything you see on the menu that suits your palate, I'm confident you'll leave feeling good about it ! Cheers, Salida1048

Here's how I got Mali'd! (MALI + LOVED) On my way to my usual Thai staple, Surin of Thailand, I noticed the newly expanded Mali. To be honest I've seen the sign for Mali for years however, could never in passing tell where the restaurant was located. The recent expansion allows (walking or driving) traffic an opportunity to see inside the freshly updated and quaint setting. Since I could see more than just a sign and was assured there was a viable business, I was willing to stop. My next thought, where does one park? Which is an issue at Surin, but to my surprise the lot directly across from the restaurant is FREE and usually not full. I eat Thai food as often as I can and have tried most of the big name/popular Thai spots in Atlanta. I judge Thai food on 3 categories: 1.Authenticity 2.Taste 3.Heat Mali- Delivered on all Three! The highlights were the garlic rice, lamb chops and the hot seafood! The low points were the drinks, sushi and desserts. I'm waiting for mango season so I can try their version of my favorite Thai dessert, mango sticky rice. I've already returned to Mali several times! I've developed a hankering for their garlic rice, the rice alone will mandate my return. Ambiance- check Parking-check Great Food-check Good Service-check Decent Drinks-check Decadent Desserts- still checking :) Full Disclosure: There were a few customer service misses but nothing that would deter my support.(i.e. slow service, appetizer served with the entree) Persnickety Point: Seating will be important in the winter months, tables near the entrance are subjected to the drafty going and comings of other patrons. See you there! ENJOY!

I drove to Atlanta from NC -- a 5 hour drive -- and was beyond happy to encounter this Thai restaurant. I went for a basic Pad Thai and it was a great choice. Everything was fresh and tasty, with chicken and shrimp, crushed nuts and lime...all the goodies. I probably should have eaten half for dinner and half next day, because it was a lot of food!

We moved here almost two years ago but never tried MaLi. We had someone from out of state who worked for us for a couple of months and he really knew Thai food and said it was great. Went for first time yesterday for dinner and sat on patio. Both I and my thirty-something son thought their cocktails were fantastic. We both had lychee martinis, but they have a big list of specialty cocktails. Place is very casual. Service was excellent, wine prices were superb (mark-up) for the bottle of Iron Horse Chardonnay. Food was great, both gluten and heat were noted on the menu so my celiac guys who like spicy were happy, and I, who likes stuff mild but have no diet restrictions were all happy. I will have to make this a regular place for us.

We had the rainbow chicken and it was perfect. Very spicy and savory. We also had vegetables in golden curry sauce that was a big hit too. Whenever we visit we always get a massaman curry and this time we got the shrimp and loved it. Service was very prompt and attentive.

Two of my neighbors and I decided at the last minute to spend New Years Eve at a restaurant and chose Mali Thai. We really didn't know what to expect except that it was going to be crowded because of NYE. Even with that, the wait was minimal, the prices reasonable, the food in good quantity. The only downsides were the fact that it was crowded and I had to wait a little extra time for one of my piece of sushi. One of the neighbors has certain allergies but was able to eat and eat well. That was important to him. He was so impressed that he decided that he would take the two of us back there, his treat. That has to say something.

I live in a place without Thai or Asian food so when friends recommended this place, I early lysed ZIfty for delivery. Food was hot and great. Will eat here again.

Mali is my favorite place for dinner in Atlanta. The food is amazing, and the atmosphere is open and inspired. Though it's a mid to small sized restaurant there's nothing cramped or dark about it. A totally beautiful space, with delicious food and great service. A full bar is in the upstairs dining area as well. This is the spot for birthdays and dates, be it with a significant other or first time. Also I grab take out from Mali all the time so if you want a good meal at home that's an option as well. I recommend doing take out over delivery!

I live in the neighborhood and had never eaten here until this week. Well worth a visit...We had Siam tofu, Tom Kha soup, pad Thai, and sushi and everyone left happy. The food was great, and the service was OK. Our server messed up two of our four entree orders, but fixed the sushi mess up quite quickly. At the end of the meal, it took a long time to get checks, but otherwise we enjoyed our meal very much.

this place is our favorite thai and sushi bar in atlanta!!!! they do such a great job on both sushi and thai front that when you go to other thai and sushi you realize just how good this place is, i would highly recommend for a special place to take out the wife or girlfriend or whole family , they have a great wait staff and the food is so tastey!!!!!!

This is among my favorite Thai restaurants. I have been going there for many years. The food is consistently good. The service is consistently good.

Mali Thai serves great Thai food. It is beautiful restaurant and wonderful atmosphere. Many restaurants seem to be loud but not Mali. The prices are just right for Thai food. The service is excellent. A wonderful back patio and I will be back.

Delicious Thai food. Definitely get the Spicy Garlic Chicken. Have tried other things but always come back to this. They have the best Mai Tai also. Not too sweet. It is especially nice to eat on the back patio, but the recently renovated space is visually appealing anywhere. Bar is a great place to sit for drinks and appetizers. The only negative is that some of the servers/hosts can be a little less than gracious. If they did some staff training, this would be an ideal neighborhood restaurant, but also worth driving out of your way if you want delicious Thai food.

This was my first visit to Mali Thai Restaurant. Delicious wine and really good steamed vegetable/shrimp/chicken rolls. Sushi was good.... Large menu with many choices. Great service

I must admit that I was not a fan of Thai food until my husband took me to this restaurant. He persuaded me to try it by informing me that he had been to nearly every Thai restaurant in the Atlanta area, and this one was the best. After eating there, I must say that I think he is right. I think there is something on the menu for everyone. Whether you like your food spicy or mild, every dish I've tried is phenomenal, including the sushi! Even my husband's cousin who spent a summer in Thailand raves about Mali Thai's food and how authentic it tastes. So, if you're looking for a great local Thai place that has fabulous food, great service and a wonderful atmosphere, try it out.

I just cannot get my family to try any other restaurants when they visit. My mom just salivates at the mention of Mali. When she steps out of her Maxima after a 4 hour drive and I suggest Mali for dinner, those Pavlovian eyes begin to swirl. LOL Our favorite dishes are: Panang and Massaman Chickens, Prik King Pork, Best of the Boatman (shrimp & scallop in spicy thai chili sauce), and soft shell crab (in the same sauce as BOTB). Our favorite apps are either the Midtown Roll (sushi) or the chicken satay. Mango and sticky rice for dessert is da bomb. I've lived in Atlanta for over 13 years and luckily heard about this place in year #2. It still remains our favorite restaurant in Atlanta. And oddly its prices for mains are very reasonable at the $11-$17 range. The atmosphere is top notch and the service is always kind and friendly as well.

Iâm so glad we went back after many years. We had been to Mali a few times years ago. In looking for a new Thai restaurant to try, we rediscovered Mali and it is great! The food is delicious and comes in large portions, so itâs possible to order too much. The service is excellent and unobtrusive. Dining on the patio was enjoyable, although the interior is modern, spacious, and nicely air conditioned. We will definitely go back!

We had a good meal for dinner. I started with an appetizer, Angel Wings ($8.00). There were 2 very large stuffed wings. It was served with a small cucumber salad. It was delicious. I had the shrimp massaman ($17.00). It was very good. The portion was not very large but it was very good. My wife had the famous seafood noodles ($19.00). It was basically Pad Thai with shrimp & scallops. It was delicious & the portion was a good size. Overall the meal was good not excellent.

We have gone by this restaurant many times and finally decided to try it the other night. My girlfriend had a sushi appetizer and the Massaman Shrimp while I had the Gingerine beef. We both had the same reaction: If we had never eaten at the other Thai restaurant down the street, we probably would have said the food was excellent. Since we had a very recent basis for comparison of Thai food, we had to knock it down a notch to "good". They were a bit stingy with the shrimp in the Shrimp Massaman and the portion of rice served was on the small side. Kind of tiny, actually. To make matters worse, when we asked for more rice we were charged $1.50 for another tiny portion. While that seems like a petty complaint, it's the principle. The other Thai restaurant had more shrimp in the Shrimp Massaman and the serving or rice was much more generous. We never had to ask for more rice there. For you sushi lovers, and I am most definitely NOT one, I think Mali has a wider selection, but I wouldn't swear to that. We thought the food was good, but compared to the other local Thai restaurant, we both said Mali is a strong #2.

Highly recommend for very good Thai food - seriously authentic flavors - at excellent if not downright inexpensive prices (i.e., $15 large entrees). Many great Thai offerings - both for soups/apps and entrees. We were a party of four and everyone loved their food. And one of the best things - they kept right to our 8:30p reservation on a very packed Friday night. A real keeper to which I will return many times.

We had a great Friday meal out with our 10 month old grandson. The food was outstanding and the serve was 1st rate. The outside covered porch was pleasant and the perfect place for a child without bothering anyone.

I've been looking for a great Thai place for a while with no luck. Finally, I found a place with great food and a good atmosphere thanks to Seated. I had the green curry and highly recommend it.

I stop here for take out any time I'm north of town. The owner always knows me and knows I'm doing take out. Service is quick and friendly.

Went there for lunch a week ago for the first time and loved it. I will be back. As a matter of fact, the Google reviews are what led me to pick this restaurant. We were a party of 6 and everyone loved their food. We all tried a different dish also, so that speaks for itself. I personally tasted these foods while there and would recommend them: Moo Shu, Spring Rolls, Tom Kha Soup, Panang Chicken. Enjoy!

Food quality is dependable but it always seems a bit pricey for a standard Thai meal. Basil and masaman dishes are among their best. They also do sushi.

Had a Christmas Season family dinner last week at Mali Thai Restaurant. The Sushi continued to be delicious, but they were either missing their full complement of serving staff, or some had started their vacations early. The service was slow, some of our orders were mixed up or incomplete, and one dish that should have been served hot was only room temperature warm. I will be back, but this time was disappointing.

Our group had both Thai entrees and sushi. The Sushi was very good. The Thai also was good excepting for noodle dishes that found the noodles to be much too mushy. The most notable part of the meal however was the lack luster service. Our server was not attentive and made several mistakes in taking our meal orders. We did not get all that we requested. We had to tell another server about our problems just to get someone to listen. Ultimately an apology was offered but the errors were not corrected. Not going back

Been going to Mali every month or two for years. Joy, the owner, INSISTS on the highest quality fish and food ingredients, and rejects what other sushi restaurants accept uncritically. The newly opened additional space that fronts on Highland adds a whole new, great ambiance.

Years ago we are here, before they expanded, and while I don't recall the details the overall memory was very positive. While we love the decor in the new section the food did not match up to expectations. This was a sushi night for us and I have say the sushi was just OK. The salad was so bland- some other flavors were overcoming the ginger. did like the calamari appetizer, though for some the tempura batter might be a bit much. Maybe our fond memories of this place were due to us having ordered Thai dishes instead of sushi.

We made reservations for 6 with a tight time frame and were in and out in record time (we were on a "between meeting deadline") with great service and food. I seldom give a 5. I mean where do you go from there! This would be one of three places to date that I would put on the "want to go again" list! NOTE: the kitchen has just been remodeled and there is adequate road parking and a lot across the street. The sushi was served up to perfection - we had the firecracker and tuna rolls with spring rolls for table appetizers. Everyone commented that the food was amazing. The Thai tea was a dessert to sip!

Tried it based on Tripadvisor reviews and an Open Table reservation and it was excellent. Food, service and atmosphere were great. Will go back as soon as possible.

It is a cute little place that manages to have tons of seating. We may have caught them on a bad night just because of the lack of staff they seemed to have that evening. The food was amazing, but for some reason it felt like the area we were sitting in was on a slant, which made it a bit weird an borderline uncomfortable. All in all I would definitely eat there again.

We ordered Vegetable Tempura, Siam Tofu, Siam Tofu, Vegetable Massaman and Pik King Pork. Everything was delicious but their famous Massaman curry was the best I have ever had. We sat outdoors, very pleasant. I will go back the next time I visit Altanta.

Hostess is extremely rude, servers seemed hurried, stressed and overwhelmed. Very unfriendly, not at all helpful. Food was good but service was horrible. Would not return here. They do not deserve my hard earned money.

Been here many times and have never been disappointed by the sushi or the thai. Sushi bar offers frequently changing "special offerings" of sushi (usually a roll, not nigiri), and while others have complained that the size of the thai dishes is a bit stingy, I think with a sushi starter and a thai entree, the servings are just right. The shrimp Massaman offers five shrimp in a moderately spicy sauce with fresh, authentic flavors. "The Best of the Boatman" is also a good bet. Sushi chef will offer omekase, if that's your thing.. Newly expanded space with a large bar upstairs, but I stick to the sushi bar downstairs. This place is NUTS-crowded on the weekends, so make a reservation or go early. Owner runs the front and will bend over backwards to make you comfortable and see that you are well served. Wait staff seems a bit overworked on the weekends, which can slow service, but not too bad.

We were getting together with friends who live in the suburbs and I suggested going to Mali - I'd been several years ago and really liked it. Unfortunately, the service was abysmally bad and our waiter was even worse. It was clear that they were understaffed, which happens sometimes, but nobody ever apologized for the wait or even acknowledged there was a problem at any point during the (very long) time we were there. First, we got to the table and got water and menus... and waited quite awhile to put in our drink/appetizer orders. Then we waited an abnormally long time to receive the drinks. The appetizers didn't follow terribly far afterwards. Then we waited to order our main courses. For our entrees, 3 of our party ordered Thai and 2 of us ordered sushi. As we waited longer and longer, our drinks were half-full so we all ordered refills right away (we're talking pricey alcohol here, not water) - and still our glasses went empty for quite some time before we got refills. The Thai food came... and no sushi. After about 10 minutes of it getting cold while the Thai-ordering people politely waited for the sushi to arrive, we gave up on that and asked them to eat without us. Still no sushi (and no checking in from our waiter to see if everything was okay, or explaining why the sushi was delayed). After an inordinate amount of time passed (maybe 30 minutes after the Thai food was delivered?) a couple of my fellow diners saw what looked like our sushi plates sitting at the sushi bar... they sat there for 15 minutes or so when we finally flagged down a waiter (ours was too busy to bother with us) and asked if that might be our sushi - sure enough it was. So yes, raw fish sitting at room temp for 15 minutes because the waiter didn't care when or if it got to our table. By the time it arrived, the folks eating Thai food had finished their meals entirely. We asked for the check, and were presented with the bill for the table next to us (with more people and pricier food). When we got our bill for our party of 5, despite the abysmal service, there was a 21% gratuity automatically added, and no way to remove it! As we left, the lady who I believe is the manager or maitre d' said, "See you next time!" I told her there would be no next time due to the horrible service we received. She said, "Nobody told me or I could have done something!" We told the waiter about the food delay and it was obvious everyone had eaten their Thai food by the time the sushi came out. The waitstaff clearly couldn't care less because they knew they'd get a huge tip regardless. Completely unacceptable.

Amazingly delicious Thai food. This was my 4th visit to Mali in two months and I have been blown away by the quality of the food on each visit. Presentation is great and the flavors dance on your tongue. Tonight I had a special Pad Woon Sen and then Mango and Sticky Rice for dessert. Having eaten at was is reputed to be the "best" (as well as most expensive) Thai restaurant in Atlanta, Mali's food is just as good ....... but at half the price.

I am a bit hesitant to eat at Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai restaurants. My wife would like to eat more of this cuisine. It's only a one block walk to Mali, and we will eat there more often. She had the spring rolls entree and loved every bite. I had a pork dish which was quite satisfying. And a couple of glasses of pretty good wine too. Service was excellent!

This is a long time restaurant in this location that has expanded and become more of a trendy restaurant. However, it has lost some of the charm and quality it used to have. Seating is tight and space is noisy. Service was rushed and not relaxed. Overall food was OK, but nothing exceptional. Everyone felt their main course was too soupy and did not have a good consistency. There are far more enjoyable Thai restaurants in the area.

I went to this restaurant on a Tuesday night and had the spring roll appetizer and the basil chicken (Thai hot). finally a Thai restaurant not afraid to try and burn my face off. They allow you to choose spicy level, but I like it hot. I will come here every time I come to the Atlanta area. Phenomenal food and the service was outstanding.

I did a take out one time and it was so tasty. This time I ordered the spicy noodles with beef. It was really spicy and yummy. I did not care for the seafood soup because I have had better. Love the place and art work.

I have been going to Mali for many years and it is consistently good. The servers are always attentive and pleasant. On the last visit, the chicken massaman seemed tougher and not the quality of previous visits. However, Mali will always be a top dining choice in Morningside.

Our friends recommended so we tried but because of coronavirus we opted for curbside delivery. Great decision. Everything came as ordered perfectly prepared and packaged. The green curry shrimp was as good and as spicy as I've ever had. Pad Thai very good. Spicy garlic beef and pork very good also. Everything else also very good and everything remained hot all the way home and on to the table. Good prices too. Highly recommend; we'll be back

The sweet shrimp are fried to perfection! Haven't been able to find them around ATL to this caliber. The fish was notably fresh as was the atmosphere. My wife and I will be back. That's a guarantee.

Wife and I here for first time today, enjoyed spring rolls with peanut sauce, and split pad Thai lunch entree, very tasty and just the right spice as requested. Try this spot if you're in Virginia Highlands neighborhood

I've lived in Atlanta for 12 years. I've been to Tamarind, Tamarind Seed, Little Bangkok, Surin...all the big name Thai places. This is the best, however. And a cool patio with great service to boot! They even have some pretty good sushi, if your dinner mate isn't craving Thai food. This is also my family's favorite place to go when they visit. They can't get enough.

We eat there often but never thought about writing a review until tonight. The restaurant is very good. Inside and outside seating. The have Chinese and sushi foods. The sushi is what we get most often. The sushi is priced well. It is not the highest grade of sushi but it is tasty and priced well.

In the Thai language, Xr'xy means delicious, or yummy. And that sums up the terrific food at Mali. Besides the wonderful menu, the place has great atmosphere, terrific service and an ideal location, in Atlanta's trendy, comfortable Virginia Highlands neighborhood. My favorite dish is the Pad Thai, and yes, I know you can get that anywhere, but at Mali it's something special. No other Pad Thai I've had measures up. As you enjoy your meal, you can also enjoy their full-service bar, their interesting wine list, and the stunning artwork that graces the walls.

Fresh, light and tasty. Service was good once the first orders were taken. Don't sit in the middle of the resturant. Fresh and flavorful sushi. Nice bottle of wine

Visited Atlanta on a girls weekend trip and was recommended this restaurant by a local. The best dinner I've had in a long while. The food was incredible, including the sushi. The staff was so nice and helpful. They even called us a cab and helped us plan our evening out.

I love having lunch here, especially in the spring and fall and the covered patio is a great place to spend a nice lesisurly lunch. The interior was recently expanded and has a nice bar and a modern, clean look, which is pretty unusual for a Thai restaurant in Atlanta. I usually get the vegetarian massaman curry, and it is always delicious. There is an up charge for brown rice, but it is a reasonable amount.

I really want to like this restaurant because they have an excellent wine list and a variety of dinner options. The sushi is decent however the service is SO slow. I have been twice and have experienced slow service both times.

Really, only 3 shrimp in the Pad Thai? And shrinking sushi size? The wait staff shrug their shoulders and point to the owner's dictates. Too bad customers don't come first. There are better intown options for Thai.

Consistently good food, Mali is now better than ever. The owner has fairly recently added new space that is very nice, and the existing space is just as good - indoors or patio. It seems to be always busy at dinner and the lunch crowd is growing with the additional square footage.

I've been a regular customer of Mali for 7 years. The food never disappoints. The sushi is excellent and always fresh. I have tried mostly all of their dishes. My favorite is the Thai hot hot hot seafood. The restaurant is newly renovated and very spacious. There's also outdoor seating, weather permitting. The service is wonderful and everyone is friendly, including the owner. I'm grateful to have this class of restaurant in my neighborhood. I hope that Mali will expand their wine selection. Mali is my choice for Thai food and sushi in Metro Atlanta. it's definitely a gem.

This is a fantastic Thai restaurant in Virginia Highlands area. It's worth multiple visits, my wife and I have ate dinner there four times in the past 10 days. I think we are addicted this is restaurant. Give it a try you will enjoy the food. Sometimes if it is very busy you may have to wait a few extra minutes for service, but it is worth the wait.

Our business dinner that lasted 3 hours. First our waiter was young, so I was apprehensive. This guy was outstanding - he make some outstanding selections and provide service masterfully during the course of our 3 hour meal while entertaining a business client. Now for the star of the evening. The food! Wow, Mali always impresses with exceptional selections and appropriate heat ratings. We had masterfully presented meals that looked as good as they tasted. The expansion into the upper room is a welcome addition. The bar is a hidden treasure. It's a small bar area with a few seats however appointed perfectly for a casual meal and drinks. This was my eight visit here in the last four years. They keep impressing me with the food and service. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. The people are friendly, and the sushi is incredible.

I had not been to Mali in about two years. The restaurant had expanded into space adjacent to the original location. The new area provides the extra seating that was lacking in the old space. Unfortunately, the lunch entree I selected was not as good as in prior visits. The chicken Massaman curry was mildly spicy, but the chicken was tough and dried out and the avocado was overripe. I should have sent it back, but am hesitant to do so. Too many stories about restaurants chefs that do not take lightly to food that is returned. My bad. I ended up eating the rice and sauce. The server was pleasant.

This remains one of "go to" restaurants in the Virginia-Highland area. It is beautifully updated, clean, and bright. The service remains among the best of any of Atlanta's restaurants. And, the staff is extremely attentive and friendly. One can usually judge a restaurant by staff turnover. You will see the same faces here for one year to the next, and they will remember you. The drinks are always well-prepared. The food is among the best Thai in the Atlanta area. Maybe the best.... They have a sushi chef and a great selection. Their appetizers are wonderful. I recommend the Lotus Blossums (steamed pork and shrimp dumplings served with a soy vinaigrette dipping and garlic oil sauce). Or, the Mali Pockets (fried shrimp dumplings served with our citrus soy vinaigrette and chili). Their soups are excellent: Spicy Seafood, Tom Yum, or Tom Kha. And they have a full selection of entrees. My favorite is Mali's Own Grilled Chicken (ginger soy marinated and charcoal grilled chicken breast served with garlic rice, sautéed mixed vegetables, mushrooms, and a ginger soy sauce).

In a universe of homogenized Asian cuisine (think of the typical Japanese-Chinese-Korean-Vietnamese Restaurant-Sushi Bar-Buffet and you've conjured reality and the first scene in a SNL skit), Mali is an exception that also sets the bar high. This neighborhood restaurant delivers quality and authentic Thai food, exceptional service, great prices and a comfortable yet attractive surrounding consistently and with hospitality. Delicious dishes with distinctive flavors (no universal brown sauces); fresh ingredients; artful presentations; and excellent staff draw regulars time and again. A short drive from midtown in Virginia Highland, the location provides easy parking, an outdoor (porch) dining option and an attractive bar. Worth the trip to this trendy neighborhood as a visitor and also repeat visits as a local. A great spot...

Our outdoor dining experience was beautiful by candlelight and a light breeze from a far-away fan. Our service was fantastic by our young Atlanta native. My Mojito was top notch and my Masamam Chicken was divine. My 2 friends had the salmon green curry with a little heat and was out of this world yummy. We highly recommend this dining gem and will return next trip here.

I have been a regular at Mali for over 15 years and have always loved it. However, the last 3-4 visits have not been up to par. I often order the massaman chicken and the meat is get tougher each time with less quality. The size of the portion is also noticeably smaller. We treated another couple to special occasion and brought our own bottle of wine for it. The corkage fee has increased to $25, not a value for a restaurant which serves much lower wines as their norm. I will give it a couple of more visits, but they need to raise the bar.

I came here with my husband and a large group. They split us up into different tables (which was expected) but then they moved me and my husband into a corner next to the door, completely away from our group. This defeated the whole purpose of eating out with my colleagues and I would have much rather picked a different restaurant... at least somewhere with adequate heating. The service was ok, nothing extraordinary. The food was awesome, but you'll have to ignore the smell of some dishes. I'm guessing (hoping) it was just the seasoning they used. I think in a different situation this place would have been great, but being so far removed from my party and next to a cold, drafting door kind of ruined it for me. Lastly, skip the dessert menu. I had the creme brulee and my husband had the brownie, both were only adequate.. It'd be cheaper to go elsewhere for something sweet. For others with celiac disease - I'm very sensitive to gluten and I managed to not get sick, so I would try it. When asked about gluten-free suggestions, their solution was to just take the sauce off of everything, so I ordered something they couldn't take the seasoning off of and it turned out fine. (I'm really not a fan of plain slabs of meat for over $15.) However, they were willing to accommodate or change things as needed. I had the rack of lamb as my entree, which is 3 pieces of lamb on the bone and vegetables. It did come in a sauce, so make sure you tell the server you're gluten free so they don't add soy sauce.

Far away from Thailand that made me miss my hometown food. Look for Thai restaurant and found Mali restaurant at Atlanta. Here we go, my favorite disks are hand bread squid (Pha-muk-tod), chicken with red curry (Kai-pad-king), chicken currey (Must-sa-man-kai), and especially Yellow Grilled Chicken (Kai-yang-leung). It has a such wonderful taste :) Strongly recommend đ

I went here for the first time on a first date. Jasmine chicken was awesome as well as spicy coconut chicken soup.

Although we live 30 miles from downtown Atlanta in Lawrenceville, Mali is worth driving into the city for excellent Thai cuisine. Given the large Asian community near where we live, there are plenty of decent Thai restaurants nearby we have eaten at. However, none of them can compare with Mali. Most recently we tried some of the dishes we had not had before and as always were quite impressed. There really is no meal or dish that I can recommend over another. In the dozen or so times we have eaten at Mali everything was always superb.

This is my âto-goâ place for delicious food and great cocktails for dinner (Lychee Martini is my favorite). Sometimes service can be slow or not top-notch, that is the only reason for 4 stars.

The food here is fresh and flavorful. And spicy, if you like. The shrimp dishes, especially the curries, are perfect. This is a light and airy restaurant in the heart of Virginia Highland. Very friendly owner. Great service, a good menu without being overwhelming, and a nice Highland crowd. Consistently good.

We landed back in town late and had to find a restaurant that's open late. Stumbled into Mali that night. Got there 30 mins before their closing time. Yet everyone was so welcoming. Had a great Larb salad and the best grilled lemongrass chicken as well as garlic shrimp. Both entrees come with fresh sauteed vegetables. Very light and so fresh! Even the leftover was amazing the next day!! 40 miles away...nothing compares to our monthly traveling (by plane) all over the country for good food..we sure will be back often!!

Visited Mali for lunch. Very nice place & didn't have to wait. We ordered grilled Salmon which was served with grilled veggies & white rice. Hot & sour soup was very tasty. The cherry on top was(literally) before leaving when I told server Cherry that it was our anniversary, she brought some icecream on a plate & Happy anniversary written on it. We were really touched by this gesture.

Mali Thai doesn't impress from the outside but their service and food was excellent. Our party of 5 all had very favorable comments on their entrees - a salmon special was especially fresh and well prepared with perfectly cooked and presented vegetables. The restaurant is a bit hard to find on Amsterdam just past North Highland Avenue NE (our GPS always gets confused in this area for reasons unknown) so have a lookout assist with navigation. Well worth the visit - one of the better Thai restaurants we have visited in recent years.

We went as a large party; that being said, the service was very good. The 2 appetizers I ordered for the group to share (Angel Wings and Yin & Yang) were very good with stunning presentation. My entree (Majastic Catfish) was extremely salty; it also was not spicy as indicated on the menu. Although I wasn't full, I couldn't finish the fish because it was too salty.

Mali is a hidden gem in Virginia Highland. I have been eating here for more than 20 years and have found to be reliable and a consistent cut above. Since it is a little off the beaten track you can almost always get a table. The offerings are pretty standard, although some items like the mooshu appetizer add a unique element to the restaurant. The service is always prompt and friendly.

the food here is great but the service is shady and unpredictable. we ran a $150 tab and they insisted that we had 2 more drinks than we ordered even though neither of us were drunk and knew exactly how much we drank. they also charged us for an appetizer we never ordered. they made us debate for more than 30 minutes about it and we eventually gave in with the stipulation that we wouldnât tip (and we are both 20%+ tippers). any reputable business should not fight over such pettiness especially when we ran such a large tab. service in previous visits have been very hit or miss so we highly recommend that if you go, take a photo of every thing you order... otherwise, be warned you will be overcharged.

This little Thai restaurant and sushi bar is just off N. Highland Ave. on Amsterdam. It has consistently good food at a good price. I highly recommend the Mali's Grilled Chicken entree.

I truly enjoy almost every variety of sushi. So when eating in a new restaurant I will offer go with the Chef's Choice selection. Was with a small group of sushi lovers who had dinner at Mali Thai Restaurant last week. Everyone could select their favorite sushi selection, but I went with a Sushi Combo and enjoyed sampling the variety. I am sure Mali Thai has great Thai dishes, but wanted to describe how much I enjoyed their Sushi. Pleasent setting, friendly service, great food.

Folks in Atlanta know this place. Great service and selection, of Thai cuisine and sushi. It's busy, a good reflection of the popularity. Hot pot is good, so is the curry. Just note that Medium means Hot, at least to me. Try it out!

I usually love the food at Mali Thai, but this time it was awful. I ordered the Masamam Chicken, and the chicken was so tough and gamey that I couldn't finish my meal. I told the server so that she could pass this on to the kitchen. With so many good Thai restaurants around, I won't be back to Mali again any time soon

Five friends and myself went out to Thai food while we are here on business. I must say, after reading reviews, we were a bit skeptical. However, we decided to take a chance and it was well worth it. We all started with different appetizers, which were phenomenal (and generous portions). We then ordered our entrees, and dessert afterwards. With the amount of food we purchased, it was very reasonable (without getting into too many details).

The seating is less than desired, lots of customers coming in, so if you do not mind a tight fit sometimes depending on where you are seated, the food is GREAT!!. Green Curry Chicken was so spicy we had to take breaks between eating to allow our mouths to cool down. Sushi was good but the Thai food was much better. Started off with the spring rolls, good, with the dipping sauce. Ended with a fried banana and coconut ice cream which was FANTABULOUS! Flakes of what I can only say were bits of waffle cone, A dessert that does not leave you feeling heavy and overloaded with sweets.

Grill Salmon dish is AWESOME. Since i've worked at Midtown, i have lunch at this place twice a week.

Shrimp Green Curry is the best dish ever

We haven't been her in a year or so but decided to try it again, as we use to live in the neighborhood and loved it. We still do. Not quite as refined as our Thai food we had last week, but the tastes were great. We ordered Nua Nam Tok, fresh spring rolls, and chicken satay. We agreed that all were very good but the satay was the weak link. But we managed to eat everything...no left overs...which is unheard of. We forgot to say that we wanted everything served at the same time but to our amazement here they come....all at the same time. So we started out happy. The Nua Nam Tok had so much beef and as we requested light on the fish sauce. It was great. The veggie spring rolls made for us with no shrimp or pork were awesome and the chicken satay was very good. Both had wonderful tasting dipping sauces. Service was great. Food prices were average, but ours was a bit more because we ordered more than normal....but our fault and we ate every bite!

Located in the Highlands area of Atlanta this is a good option to get thai food. Pad thai was really amazing and not dry like you'd usually find in a "thai food" place. We arrived late (10:00 pm) as we were on our way back from florida, so the only issue I had was that the server didn't tell us in advance that the kitchen was going to close at 10:15, meaning when we wanted to have more fried rice, we couldn't. Nice location, good neighborhood and good taste, should be a good option if you are in the vicinity and yearning for some good asian grub.

While at Emory, we were looking for healthy food and loved our meal at Mali Thai in Virginia Highlands. The sushi and Basil Spring roll were delicious. Salad had a light ginger dressing with a variety of raw vegetables. Thai Mixed Vegetables with brown or white jasmine rice were crisp and perfectly sauteed; Napa cabbage was a nice addition. I wish they offered more quality wines-- Glad they had Sonoma Cutrer chardonnay. Atmosphere is like a small bistro (and they are expanding their space). Outdoor seating available. Service was excellent.

Fresh, well seasoned authentic Thai food in a casual setting. Green curry was delicious as was the larb. Full bar and good wine list. The service was great and the staff pleasant and attentive. Many Thai restaurants now have a âchainâ feel. Not here - there is clearly a chef in the kitchen who cares for quality ingredients. Youâll be happy you came.

Horrible service and average food. Ordered take out, they messed up the order. When I called back the next day they first said the order didn't exist (!!!). Thankfully I had the receipt and order number. 15 minutes later after "looking up" the order number their "chef" refused to acknowledge the screw up and even suggested that the issue was made up. I offered to take the uneaten food back but who wants to spend an hour on the road after being treated this way. Super unprofessional. Plus the part of the order they didn't screw up was average at best. I guess they have too many customers.

This is our second visit to this Morningside Thai restaurant. Tables were located around the entry level and more on the upper level. This time we were seated at a table near the door and the kitchen hallway. From that vantage point, we were able to see how much takeout business they handle and the food coming out of the kitchen. We were impressed with the volume food that was prepared while we were there. The wait staff were all hustling the whole time to efficiently provide diners with their orders. Both experiences were way above average. This time, our traveling trio splurged and ordered 9 starters and entrées. It was almost too much food for three people. It was a blast to have so many options on the table from which to choose. We sampled Moo Shu, Spring Rolls, Vegetable Tempura, Calamari, Beef Satay, Yum Yai Salad, Spicy Pork, Tuna Sushi with brown rice. Everything was as good as we enjoyed on our first visit. We will very likely come back again on our next visits to Atlanta, but I think we prefer seating in the upper level.

Food was very good. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food. Our servers did a good job, but their attitudes were not on par with the food. I would go back for the food for sure.

went here for dinner with daughter and son-in-law. I ordered the spring rolls and a duck dish. She forgot the spring rolls and I had to take them with my dinner. I have had better at Thai Smile. These had more of a consistency as an egg roll, not flaky like a spring roll. My duck dish was all right. I'll probably give it another chance and order something different. Waitress was sweet but must have been inexperienced.

Always consistently a good meal here. Friendly staff - meals are always hot and consistent ! Sometimes I eat in and sometimes take away as I live close. This is a little gem in a big city. Reasonable prices and great food!

Went to Maliâs for the first time last Thursday and was impressed by the food and service. We had 7 people in our party and everyone commented positively on their meal. The wait staff was attentive and very courteous. Like all Thai restaurants, the menu has numerous vegetarian options. The Yin and Yang appetizer was very nice in presentation and taste. For an entrĂ©e, I had the Vegetable Massaman and it was outstanding.

Enjoyed our dinner very much, sushi menu was extensive and fresh. Beer and wine very nice also. Good location minutes from our hotel at peachtree plaza. Will return next trip southbound.

Though we made the reservation and they did not have it. It took a while before we got seated. It took about half an hour before order was taken. We placed the order for drinks, appetizers and entrees at the same time. Food arrived very late after asking for it. The entrée HOTHOTHOT dish was very "cold". It had to be sent back for reheating. Before we completed the food, the drink arrived. The food was very good but the service was unbelievably poor. Though we have been frequent visitors to this place, now we are having second thoughts about going there again.

We had great expectations because of the rave reviews but unfortunately we were not too impressed with the dishes. They are visually very appealing but lack flavor or are too salty! After the delicious Tom Kha Gai soup it was all downhill. The Pad Kee Mao is extremely salty, the fried rice was bland, and we did not enjoy the Panang chicken either because of a peculiar tuna-like taste. My husband and I joked and declared we had been served a new hybrid meat. The Thai iced tea was good and the atmosphere was upbeat on a Sat night. This is probably an okay place for drinks & appetizers but for dinner go elsewhere!

Made a late night reservation for 9:45 which was accepted. That was amazing and appreciated! Friend passing through got here later than expected, but we were welcomed and seated. There was just a little pressure, naturally, for us to leave after we dined. I have been there and know when the day is done you want to go home. We weren't the last ones to leave, but next to last. The wait staff was pleasant and polite. The food was truly fresh and delicious. My friend who has lived all over the world including multiple spots in Asia said it was some of the best pad thai she has ever eaten. Now that is a real compliment! I had the shrimp with crispy basil which I had had a week earlier. It was just as good the second time around. The flavor is lovely and the shrimp was cooked to perfection.Consistency is important and appreciated. Thank you Mali. Whatever you are doing you are doing right! The new space is very attractive offering diners more options for seating. I was there last month as well for a large birthday party. Wonderful! I will be back very soon...

I took my daughter for her 18th birthday to dinner at MaLi. It was our first time and we were a little nervous but after reading the great reviews decided it was worth the chance. It was pour rain the night we went, we live was outside the city but drove in just for dinner, almost passed the place. It is small, but very warm and great ambiance inside. We were immediately seated in a nice table near the sushi bar. Staff was warm and very friendly attentive, Loved the feel of the place, the sushi was great! the chicken panang the best i have ever tasted!! the mammasan chicken to die for.. but order more rice as the rice is a very small portion. We had the coconut soup, i could have had that every day for a week.. the best Ive ever had.. I cannot wait to go back and try other dishes.. only con- not many beef dishes options and that pad prik is not of the menu is a little disappointing. but every dish from kitchen or sushi bar was GEORGOUS

I had a grilled chicken & vegetables entree and the basil rolls. The chicken was rubbery with no flavor, did not taste grilled. The basil rolls were OK. Both my dishes came with the same sweet ginger sauce although the menu noted differently.

The Restaurant is in the middle of a residential area .. Very green area. Go early as parking might be a problem . The food was excellent and service was ok. however order only whats on the menu, cause asking them to customise your meal may result in something weird !! like we ordered Veg Basil rolls and they turned out pretty bland !!

This was my first Thai meal. My daughter, who travels to Thailand on business, loves Thai food and talked us into eating here. We sat outside in a covered courtyard lined with hanging ferns that created a pastoral, peaceful setting. The service was excellent. I ordered the pad Thai, a traditional dish with shrimp, chicken, rice noodles and peanuts. It was flavorful but not too spicy. I brought half of my meal home with me and can't wait to have it for lunch tomorrow. I would definitely eat here again!

Had dinner in this place with a group of good friends. Tried the calamari and the sushi combo. The calamari was good but not superb ... a little bready, perhaps. The sushi was very fresh, and was well prepared. The service was prompt and attentive. Nice place.

I had driven by this restaurant for years, but never eaten there. From the outside it looks small, but once you enter, you see it spreads out on either side of it's side street entrance and includes a very nice covered outdoor dining area as well. The artwork is very eclectic yet references the Asian theme of the restaurant, which serves not only sushi, but several dishes that could be Chinese and traditional Thai dishes. My hubby chose the Seafood Noodle dish which is sort of like a Pad Thai on sterioids, in a good way. The dish came covered with fresh steamed shrimp and some scallops on top of the cellophane noodles, slivers of carrot and sprouts with a tasty sauce. A very generous helping which my hubby thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered the Seafood Hotpot, which was very similar to hot pots I had eaten in Chinese restaurants. It had a very nice broth, which, thankfully wasn't too salty, and lots of seafood, including white fish filet parts, scallops and shrimp with cellophane noodles and some fresh veggies. I was happy and satisfied. I think I'll return here AND bring friends. My only complaint was we waited quite a long time to be served. The server said it was because they wanted to make sure to serve all the entrees at the same time but since our friends had appetizers and we didn't, we all agreed they didn't have to wait. Even though we told the server we didn't want to wait, they ended serving all the entrees together, and by that time, my hubby and I were VERY hungry.

The food was amazing. They have a great selection of thia and Asian food with good flavor. The service was great. If going on the weekend I would make a reservation. We had to sit outside in winter. It was enclosed and heated but still not comfortable.

This is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. The remodel is lovely. The staff is low-key, efficient, and pleasant.

This is a consistently good Thai restaurant. The food is full of flavor and the ingredients are fresh. The prices are reasonable. If you are in the neighborhood and you want some good Thai food, it is definitely a good choice.

I went here with a buddy and we were both impressed. The sushi was great. We also enjoyed our time on their outdoor patio which was very comfortable and inviting. The service was great too. If you're feeling sushi, this is your place.

We had a nice lunch of classical Pad Thai and rolls as an appetizer. The area is great for a walk to see old Atlanta Homes!

I visit Thailand a lot and Mali is the best Thai food I've found in Atlanta. The Moo Shu and Satay appetizers are delicious. The Pad Thai is fantastic and the seafood Pad Thai is even better. I highly recommend the spicy cat fish as well. The menu includes several chef's creation specials which run the entire week. Each selection seems to surpass the previous week's. And for dessert, if Mango and Sticky Rice is in season --- go for it. My alternative favorite dessert is their chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. The atmosphere is great and the service is flawless.

There was a full house and great atmosphere that the ladies dinner club of ATL that I am a member added to of course! The dining room is intimate, nicely decorated and welcoming. Cocktails: berry mojito (sent back too much lime), mai tai was good; ginger snap and sangria great. Starters: spring rolls, yin and yang were okay; the stars for us were mali pockets, vegetable tempura, and the calamari. These three and their dipping sauces were flawless perfection. Entrees: cashew chicken; seafood noodles; hot, hot, hot seafood; best of the boatman; grilled duck with red curry; gingerine; and chef special, we all truly enjoyed the meal. The presentation was spectacular and the flavors were complex and absolutely delicious.

It's not often that a Thai, sushi combo restaurant is good at both but Mali really impressed. The Massaman curry was thick and rich with good spice. I had the Mali hot hot hot seafood which lived up to its name of being very spicy but extremely flavorful I've been searching for a dish that reminds me of the Talay noodles I used to eat at MyThai in Baltimore, and while this dish didn't have noodles, it was the closest thing and just as good. Large muscles, scallops, shrimp, and calamari, all juicy and tender, with veggies in an incredible chili sauce. We also had a sashimi platter with 21 pieces of chef's choice sashimi. The fish was flavorful and tender and the raw squid was unique and had tons of flavor. The price was a little step but definitely worth it. And the sake was good too.

I lived and worked in Bangkok for a number of years and always have found it challenging to get authentic Thai food here in the states. Most places claim to have "Thai", but in reality it turns out the be Chinese with some spice added. Mali changes that game. Their Larb is delicious and just like I had back in Bangkok. Their curries and sauces on various other dishes are delightful. Their wine and drink list is great and priced for about any budget. They also have sushi which is good (I also worked in Japan), but when I go I always order Thai since I believe it is better and more authentic.

We were visiting family in Atlanta and they suggested Thai food. I'm not particularly adventurous, but went along with the plan. It was a Sunday night and there was no wait. The hostess was friendly and showed us to our table in the upper section of the restaurant. The drinks were really good--and I'm NOT a drinker--but after tasting the 2 that had already been ordered, decided I needed to have my own. Since I don't care for spicy food, I was glad to see that all of the entrees had chili peppers after them to rank the hotness. I selected a 1 chili pepper entree, shrimp with crispy basil and it was delicious. My sister, who does like spicy food, also chose a 1 chili pepper and thought it was WAY too hot. She mentioned to our waiter that it needed to be upgraded to a 2 chili pepper entree. As a first timer Thai, I enjoyed it and would come again. My only complaint is that there weren't many dishes with 0 chili peppers . . . but then it IS THAI.

I finally got to eat at Mali Thai and was very pleased. We started with appetizers which the quantity for an appetizers was plentiful. Several dishes were ordered and tasted/shared. Mall were extremely good and plentiful. Not too much food, not too little...just right! Dessert was tempura ice cream. I thought the service was excellent for a Friday night. We were seated on he patio and it was a nice evening for eating outside. The restaurant was packed, but we were not on top of each other nor was it very noisy. It was a wonderful evening with good friends, good food and good weather. Highly recommended!!

We eat here here a lot. The food is great - both Thai and really good sushi. The portions are good but not huge so donât expect leftovers - but you wonât leave hungry!

By recommendation from a friend, I was here with colleagues on a business meal. The food is pretty good ... I had the seafood hot-pot and the taste is quite authentic Asian. My friends had duck, which they liked. The green tea ice cream was also quite respectable. The service is fine, though not what I call extraordinary-friendly. The weather was nice we sat outside, which was a bonus. the only disappointment is the choice of non-alcoholic beverages. I wind up having just hot tea, as there was nothing interesting - just things like coke and pepsi.

Ok so I'm new to sushi but I've finally tried it and I'm obsessed so on my visit to Mali I tried theirs and apparently I was spoiled by my favorite spot and I just couldn't get that taste I was looking for that night at Mali. I spent a small fortune and was never really excited. They didn't appear to work well with groups either. I think we were 8 or 9 and the one who took our order didn't come back with the runner so there was a lot of confusion.

The food is always good and fresh. Service is excellent and personal. Good value and prices are more than fair.

Always service with a smile! Consistently excellent quality! From sushi to Thai to curry - never had anything but great food. Been here at least 10 times! It's the kind of place that you can just relax, enjoy, not be rushed, never has screaming kids, a good couples or small group place. Not the cheapest Thai in Atlanta but certainly one of the best.

The service was outstanding. The food and sushi were great. Presentation was exceptional. Definitely the best Thai I have had.

Mali is a neighborhood favorite. The food is consistently flavorful, fresh and reasonably priced. Curries lean on the spicy side so if you like medium spice, I'd recommend ordering mild spice. Green shrimp curry is my favorite dish. I've tried the sushi a couple times and it is very good. I wish they would expand the wine list a bit, selection is limited.

Mali is my new favorite Thai and sushi restaurant! Itâs been at this location for 20 years and we went long ago, not considering it memorableâthere are so many nearer to us that we liked. Then it fell off the radar. We ended up here by accident while running errands and are so glad we revisited it. We will make it a point to drive over here more often. Mali used to open onto a side street, taking a back seat to shops that fronted the main drag of Highland Avenue. The entrance is still on Amsterdam but the interior, and signage, has expanded to Highlandâwhich is why we noticed it when driving past. DĂ©cor is eclectic: original brick walls, sophisticated Asian and decorative elements, large architectural-detail photographs in color, large black and white photographs of the neighborhood in yesteryear. The bar is backed by a neon green wall and shelving with interesting objects. There are both tables and elegant hightops. Stools surround the sushi bar area where there is additional seatingâŠnot to mention a large outdoor patio. I am the sushi lover so for an appetizer I ordered two nigiri from the check-it-off-yourself list of some 18 choices ($2-$3.75 per piece). Itâs the first time Iâve seen mackerel (âsabaâ) offered ($2.25); I found it good, dense, a strong taste. The yellow tail tuna (âHamachi,â $3.25) was, as usual, my favorite. Even with a mere two pieces, the plate was presented with the requisite pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauceâŠby a lovely young lady who kept checking back with us often. (The hostess who greeted us is one of the sweetest, most gracious people in the hospitality industry!) There also are 24 rolled sushi choices ($4 to $15.25) and five tempura rolls ($6.75 to $12.25). An appetizer on the menu sounded good so we split an order of Yin Yang ($6), six fried wontons stuffed with onion and Ricotta cheese, accompanied by a sweet chili dipping sauce. We agreed it was one of the best dishes weâve ever put in our mouths. This was also the first time Iâve seen a Thai restaurant offer massaman coconut curry chicken with any degree of heat. This one ($8) was mildly spicedâjust right, actuallyâwith onion, avocado, and cashew nuts. The chicken was not the moistest or tenderest Iâve ever had but the sauce was excellent! My husband had the Kaffir lime-infused Panang chicken curry with basil and bell pepper. It, too, carried âone pepperâ signifying mildly spiced. It also was delicious. Both dishes came with a mound of white rice. Prices are quite good. Lunch items are mostly in the $8-$9 range; seafood dishes are slightly higher, up to $14 for softshell crab. Lunch, served 11:30 a.m. -2:30 p.m., seems to be the bargain here, as both our dishes are $13 at dinner (5 p.m.-10:30 or 11 p.m.). Still, thatâs good for a nice in-town restaurant. And in the evening there is a choice of beef or pork ($14) or shrimp ($16) in addition to chicken. Mali also serves the usual Thai standards and among the specialty dishes are duck, softshell crab, and rack of lamb. Several vegetarian items are available and gluten-free dishes are marked. Parking behind the restaurant is free but tight, as it serves all of the shops and eateries, as well as a post office, in this small off-street strip.

This place is really solid thai food with much better ambiance than your average asian eatery. I would definitely ask to sit outside. It's a hidden behind the DBA BBQ joint. The catfish is wonderful as are the potstickers. I would caution people who don't like spicey food to pay attention to the chili peppers on the menu. Some of the dishes to run hot; but they are happy to reduce the heat if you ask.

Went with two friends and family. Satay was not tasting like Thai. The food was awfully salty. Everyone on the table was very upset. We complained to our waiter. He said he just works there. One sleepy looking woman came and asked "how is everything."We told her about the excess salt. She offered to cook it again or add more coconut milk(!) to make it less salty. It was already nearing 9 PM and did not want to wait any longer. We ate some and brought the rest home and "repaired" the food next day with additional vegetables and coconut milk. I have traveled all over the world and also a gourmet cook. We have eaten here about 3 years ago when the food was excellent. I hope they will not continue to cook such bad quality food. This will be a good reason for people to stay away.
very good food, nice atmosphere
we chose mali while in atlanta because of reviews on trip advisor. I was in the mood for some good thai food. Mali had it! We had the lotus blossom appatizer and it was very good. We eat alot of sushi, but didn't try the sushi here. I had the pad thai. It was good, a few too many bean sprots for my taste. But still very good. My husband and I went on a friday night around 8 and we did not have reservations. We got sat immediately out on the heated patio. They were very busy and our server also had a big party. So the service slightly lacked. But the party seemed to be a little difficult. My husband tried a mixed drink. I think it was called a rejuvarita?? It was the first drink on the list under mixology. It was very good, a little pricey.. We would go back when visiting ATL.
