Great place for Yemen food

By Something Tookish |

I was intrigued to try a Yemen dish. It's a small restaurant with both table and chairs and a pillowed platform. Loved the interior decor and the service was immediate and friendly. Once I received my meal I was repeatedly checked on to make sure everything was okay. I had a vegetable stew with flatbread, it was still bubbling when it arrived. Delicious dish, called saltah. Price was reasonable. I would return here to try other dishes.

Great Middle Eastern food in Philadelphia!

By Bob Lum |

Our group of 6 visited the Yemeni Restaurant when we looked for a place to eat. It was top rated on Google map. We were pleasantly greeted and given a table. We ordered the Chicken Mandi and the Lamb Haneeth as main course plus Hummus Shawarma. They are very delicious. Super yummy. One portion is enough for 2 pax. The Yogurt drink and the Yemeni tea are great too. The prices are very reasonable. Each couple spent about 30 to 40 USD. The young lady who served us was efficient and friendly. The chef (owner), Mohammed, came to talk to us. He's warm and friendly. With great food and service, we highly recommend Malooga Restaurant in Philadelphia.

Hidden gem

I feel so lucky to have spotted this place. The owner was so accommodating and pleasant. The food was out of this world! Very authentic and I highly recommend it.

Bring your appetite!

By RidleyNY |

It was a rainy night in Philly and we left our dining decision to the last minute. We ended up going to Malooga which was near our hotel. When we walked in, the restaurant was packed (always a good sign). The wait for a table was about 15-20mins but we decided to order take away. As we waited for our food, we watched other patron's food arrive at their tables. Everything looked delicious! I ordered the Chicken Mandi and my husband had the Lamb Haneeth. We also ordered hummus falafel. Everything was just as delicious as it looked!!!

My fav spot to eat in Old City

Great food and amazing service. Lamb Haneeth, hummus shawarma, and chicken kebab are my favourites. I highly recommend this place.

Must try Yemeni food!

By PelleasPhiladelphia |

This is a really fun place to try right in the heart of olde city on chestnut street. Dense small dining room. Exceptionally friendly service. Very unusual menu and flavor profiles than any other place in Philly. We shared all our dishes family style so got to try a lot. Portions were very big. We had both signature chichen dishes. Both were a bit dry and didn’t pop with flavor. The lamb haneeth though burst with flavor and the Yemeni egg and cheese might be the sleeper standout on the menu. The hummus and falafel was a yummy app. Prices are a bit high across the board. A must try but not a must repeat.

poor service and food

By Venture46992871750 |

Perhaps we were just unlucky this time, but our waitress was rude: she forgot to bring a drink and forks, and when reminded, started throwing things on our table. The lamb was dry, and on top of everything I had a terrible allergic reaction to something in my food; never had any food allergies in the 60 years of my life! This was the worst ever restaurant experience in Philly.

Chicken falling off the bone

By Blovesfood |

We ordered two chicken dishes, grape leaves, and rice pudding. We were very excited for the meal and arrived a bit early for our reservation. Chicken mandi and chicken kabsah were fabulous, the chicken was so tender and delicious , and the rice was unique and flavorful. I love rice pudding, which had pistachio on top! Service was timely and the staff are pleasant and knowledgeable. A+ all around!

Highly Recommend!

We checked out Malooga as small group (4 people) and decided to basically family style everything. We got their Adventure Platter to start (which happened to come easily divisible by 4). Love the grape leaves. Loved the hummus. The falafel was also quite tasty. So, clearly I recommend it. From there, we split the Haneeth & Mandi Duo, which resulted in plenty of leftovers even after we all had our fill. The lamb was a clear winner, although the chicken was surprisingly full of flavor as well. Sorry, we didn't save room for dessert this trip, however, we did enjoy some chai if you are considering a hot drink. Enjoy!

Good Yemeni food

We came here because it’s near the Thomas Bond House. Mohammed, the chef, came out to make sure we were enjoying our food. Our two platters and salad were large enough to feed four. The lamb was very flavorful. My bride enjoyed her grilled sea bass, nor room for dessert. We will be back. Too busy eating to take pictures.

What a Find!!

By DavisSunflower |

We just happened to walk past Malooga on our way to our hotel and the menu sounded really good, so we came back later for dinner. What a find! The food was amazing. We had the Lamb Haneeth and the lamb was so tender, it just melts in your mouth. The single entree was more than enough for the two of us. For a starter, we had the Hummus Shawarma, which was a meal in itself. My husband said it was the best hummus he's ever eaten. The service was excellent. This is definitely a hidden gem. If you are ever in Philly, you have to eat here!!

Mouthwatering Mediterranean Cuisine

By PhillyShaney |

This review is two fold! I have been here previously and had dinner! I was with a group and the food was delicious and service was wonderful! I had an idea to cater lunch for our team and wanted a diverse menu and I remembered what a great experience I had at Malooga, so I called to work on items that I felt would be tasty and yet affordable for a group of 15-20 people! Let me tell you…I had grape leaves (slight tanginess that was lovely), two platters of Hummus (Some of the best I’ve had in a long time) and Pita Bread, Shawarma Wrap, Falafel Wrap and kebab Wrap! The wraps were a big hit and super yummy! Coordinating this event was done in a helpful and efficient manner! The customer service was great from beginning to the delivery and I followed up afterwards to offer my enthusiastic feedback! I am eager for them to open in the Narberth area! Check out Malooga …it is a must try!

Middle Eastern /Yemeni Gem

By YvetteFH |

This restaurant is a gem. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We tried the hummus with falafel, the fool (fava beans stewed in tomato sauce, and the lamb. This restaurant is vegetarian friendly and offers more variety and options than your standard falafel and salad. If you love chai, finish your meal with an adani chai. It will probably be the best chai you’ve ever had.

The real thing!

This place is just fantastic. When we first got hooked a couple of years ago it was because the place had authentic, delicious Yemeni cuisine right in Old City, plus friendly service. But we noticed on our first night they turned away more than one party who wanted hunnus or falafel or something else because those aren't at the heart of Yemeni cuisine. Well now it's the best of both worlds. Hummus and falafel, sure, but also some great Yemeni specialties with lamb, fish and chicken. Well done!

GF lunch, quick and delicious

Malooga is my favorite spot in Philadelphia so far during our short stay. The food is simple yet incredibly delicious, and the staff is wonderfully accommodating. If you’re looking for a place with great food and warm service, this is a must-try!

Amazing experience, great food

By Hanna W |

The friendliness and attentiveness of the staff would be enough to give this small and quaint restaurant 5 stars. I wish I could add an additional star for the incredible food! I ordered the Sana's sizzling fajita. I combined it with the flatbread and hummus, and it was heaven. Also shared a delicious pot of the chai tea. Only suggestion I may have is to document somewhere on the menu that it's a BYOB. Although with all Bottles I saw, maybe I was the only one that didn't get the memo Can't wait to go back

RUN DONT WALK !!!

By enzobonneau |

Run don’t Walk !!! Oh my gosh, this restaurant is amazing- super - terrific. A pan Middle Eastern mix of incredible dishes that are expertly executed in a casual cosy ambiance. Perfect for an afternoon out. We were a family group of 10 people and we ordered like 15 different dishes. Each and everything we chose was 5 star delicious !! Excellent portions and kind lovely service from Liam who could not have been more accommodating with our boisterous multi generational group. Thanks Liam and thanks Malooga !! We loved it 🌟

The best Yemen restaurant in Philly

By Sch_Gabor |

We had just a couple of hours in Philly and we had a great dinner in this fantastic restaurant, sitting in the shopwindow. Nice conversation with the owner who is a very friendly guy. The falafel and the foul was amazing! Give a try, if you're in the neighbourhood!
