HIghly recommended (by italians)

By Francesca Et Gianmaria |

We had heard about this new restaurant and thought about giving a try - we were positively impressed (we are both Italian and decided to take there a couple of friends - we were six in total). Food was delicious and portions are very generous, at very good prices. Price quality is definitely well balanced. We got many appetisers to share (cheese platter, the fritto misto -this was outstanding-, and the burrata) - and afterwards each one of us got a main dish. I have tried them all (risotto, the pulp, the gnocchi) and everything was incredible and very tasty (maybe just the Tuna was a bit overcooked for our taste). We also got desserts, which is the part where I believe they could expand a bit the menu and introduce more Italian delicacies. Service is spotless and very efficient. Would definitely go back - good job!

Charming and Delicious

We had dinner there last week and the atmosphere transports you straight to the Amalfi Coast. We had the eggplant parm, fritto misto, calamari, three different pasta dishes and two desserts. Everything was delicious and served on the most beautiful plates. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The restaurant is also located on a street full of shops and bars and other restaurants so makes for great walking either before/after dinner.

FLAVORS OF SOUTHERN ITALY IN NEW YORK

By Roberto.87 |

We had lunch today at this restaurant in Brooklyn - New York. Italian food with excellent quality products and divinely cooked. You really feel the aromas of southern Italy in every dish. We had a platter of cured meats and cheeses as an appetizer, followed by ravioli with burrata and lemon, risotto with prawns and scialatielli alla nerano as first courses. All delicious dishes but I highly recommend the truly spectacular scialatielli alla nerano. Super nice place and excellent value for money. If you are in New York I think it should be a regular stop. Thanks to the owners for bringing true Italian quality to the world.

Unsafe food

Our order was off (burrata). We have had this dish, which is imported from Italy, in many authentic Italian restaurants. We also lived in Italy. We have never returned food but in this case we returned it. No big deal... Then the chef came out to make it a much bigger deal than it is. He argued with us, telling us we are “wrong” and that it’s imported from Italy and “impossible” that it takes off since it’s not yet expired. We said no problem but there are many ways for dairy imported from Italy to go bad. He made it a much bigger deal than it needed to be. No discount, no humility, just the customer is “wrong.” The rest of the food was ok (nothing amazing) and we waited over 20 minutes to get the bill. They tried to charge us for the dish we returned. No humility at all. The customer is wrong. The customer is arrogant. I wouldn’t come back.

I can’t recommend this restaurant.

Disappointing. Food didn’t come out at the same time for the four of us, that was awkward. We’ve been to Italy, this didn’t compare to what we’ve had there. Bread wasn’t special. Sorry to have to write this review, but I can’t recommend.

Nice neighborhood Italian cafe

Very nice Italian neighborhood restaurant. Recommend the eggplant parm appetizer, fresh seafood scialatielli, and homemade tiramisu dessert. Thanks to Lorenzo for the wine recommendation and great service.

I had a wonderful experience at Mama Capri. The food was excellent and our waitress was kind, friendly and helpful. It feels like you are on the Amalfi coast when you are here. 10/10. Ci vediamo presto!

Small, cute Italian restaurant

By ronco0807 |

Small, well appointed Italian restaurant on Smith Street in use Carroll Gardens. The specialty is seafood of the Amalfi Coast. Of course pasta, chicken, veal and vegetarian dishes are also on the menu. Tables are close together so there is not much room and little privacy to your and others conversations. The staff is pleasant, friendly and professional and attentive. Our food was excellent. For appetizers, the four of us had Bruschetta al Pomodoro, Parmigiana di Melanzana (Eggplant, tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil), Frito Misto del Mare (fried calamari and shrimps) and Caprese (Salad with buffalo mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, olive oil, basil and balsamic vinegar) All were delicious and foretold a great dining experience. Our entrees were 2 Scialatielli all Scoglio (homemade pasta with seafood and cherry tomatoes), Pasta all Bolognese and Spaghettone Pomodoro e Basillico (Artisanal bronze-drawn spaghetti with cherry tomatoes and basil sauce). Again every dish was tasty and done just right. Currently there isn't a liquor license so be forewarned to bring your own wine This restaurant deserves a five but I gave it a four because the noise level is deafening and although cute there is no noise abatement. The restaurant is small and the noise level when crowded is unbearable and extremely unpleasant. The food is so good, I will come back but only early and on a week night, not on a weekend.

If you don’t know Italy start tasting it here;)

It really hard to say what you can’t find Perfect here. “Tasting” Italy like this for an Italian family 6300km far from home it’s quite impossible. Come here if you are in NYC and you want to engage real Italian people and taste genuine Italian food. Congratulations To Francesco and his staff.
