This wonderful breakfast room was amazing. The home fries are delcious and the choice and service very good. Smilwy happy people ! Thank you

We chose Mama Shelter for our LA stay and are so glad we did! Our room was fantastic. We could see the Hollywood sign from our window - corny I know but that is just what we wanted! And had a great view of the street. Our room was really sunny and bright during the day as it had windows on two sides. Fantastically big bed. If you come from UK and are used to the mean ‘double’ beds you get in a typical B&B you will feel spoilt- one of the most conformable beds I have ever slept in. Lovely firm pillows and cool crisp sheets. Spacious room you could pad around in, on the plush carpet. Blackout blinds that really work. Pink ceiling. We both really, really liked this room. Doors opened silently and immediately with the key card - now why can’t we do this in the UK? Loved the bathroom all white tile and glass very clean with a shower big enough for two. I liked the fact it had both rainforest and hand shower options. Nice hot water. Yellow ceiling. Toiletries meh -they could do a lot better these feel cheap and nasty products. Hotel is knowing kitsch. I would have loved this in my twenties and didn't mind it now. All very clean- the cleaners work hard and do an excellent job. The roof terrace is beautiful and was stuffed to the gills with twenty year olds when we visited. Views from the terrace are great on all sides all over town. Couldn't sit down as it is so busy and obviously a popular place to come. Bar staff were working hard but were all absolutely charming. I had a really nice soft drink cocktail, although the mint clogged up my straw a bit and needs to be much more finely chopped- I did love the taste though. Occasionally when coming back home in the evening the reception would be full of twenty year olds partying, but we did not mind. Security were all very efficient and polite and directed us to a second lift that would get us up to our room more quickly. Despite the occasional partying it was absolutely silent in our room- we couldn't hear a thing -very impressive soundproofing! The staff were all very nice, and obviously excellently selected and trained. Hotel reception desk staff helpful but I wonder if they put the newbies on there first as they were a bit clueless about LA and could not always help with advice about the city - although it has to be said they were all very keen to do so. Check in and check out very easy. All staff at all times appear to want to help you. Well done whoever trains them in attitude! We were lazy and ate breakfast in the hotel several times and lunch once. It was all very, very good. Food delicious and well prepared. Healthy or indulgent options served and all extremely well cooked. We were served by the wonderful Jasmine and Jeffery. They were brilliant servers but more importantly really great people. Jeffery and Jasmine we salute you! Restaurant service was EXCELLENT. The hotel is really central too. You could easily walk to all the obvious touristy Hollywood stuff. This has made us want to stay in Mama Shelters all over the place.

It’s not fair to give this only two stars. If I could divide my experience in two it would serve more justice. First part was the worst. How on earth can you not take reservations for rooftop when the bar on ground floor just sucks? Staff there was AWFUL. And I really mean it. Not often I use capital letters but I have no choice. When they were done treating us like cattle we finally got our drinks while waiting to be approved for the stairway to heaven. We were told there was waiting time. We had our Prosecco in our hands for 30 sec when the arrogant - superarrogant-lady managing the waiting line told us we had a table and that we could not bring the drinks up. The way she treated us by the looks she gave-again- awful. Like a hair in her soup. She should find another job. We were definitely above the average age of the crowd, but that does not serve it right. Part two- arriving upstairs without our drinks- was better. Staff were professional and timely. Great view. They were super nice. So a minus two stars to bar downstairs and four to rooftop staff leaves it with a two star experience. Won’t come back but been there done that. View is awesome btw.

Stayed for one night after reading the LA Times review. Amazing little boutique hotel that is so freshly opened, the white bathroom is still sparkling. (The bathroom design is phenomenal.) We got a corner room on the 5th floor that had numerous windows that looked out to the Hollywood sign. I loved the black and white palette, with hints of quirkyness like sparkly bunny masquerade masks for guests and a red backlight for the bed's heardboard. Elevator makes sketchy sounds going up and down, but besides that, this place is a gem and we will be back!

The restaurant downstairs is a great combination of casual and hip with an open and lively bar on the left and the restaurant on the right, overlooking the open kitchen. The 2 sections are separated by a extra long "foosball" (football) table... facing the reception of the hotel (yes, this is also a hotel !). Great, yet a bit noisy ambiance on both side, with a pleasant and attentive service. The food is casual : we had a good Wagu burger, the grilled chicken and a kale salad. Not a romantic place but a good spot to gather with friends.

the rooftop is ideal if you are looking for some good drinks, cool views and a laid back atmosphere.

I just spent 4 nights at this Hotel and would highly recommend it. Very comfortable room (and I had one over the alley with no view) big comfortable bed, great WiFi, and most of all a fantastic vibe downstairs, where the bar, restaurant and lobby is situated in one long room. Food is excellent and everyone is really friendly.

Great view from the bar on the rooftop, where they have a lovely couches with millions of pillows and really delicious food in the restaurant. Very sweet place.

At first I booked and thought it would be the rooftop bar. Ended up it is the restaurant on ground floor. And it had private function on the roof so I had dinner first on the ground floor. I love the decor, they even decorated the ceiling. The cocktails were nice and food also delicious,ie the salmon and fried chicken. Wish I didn’t dine alone, otherwise I would be able to try more dishes. After dinner, I went up for my cocktail at the roof. The view is nice as it’s very open. They have sofa (bed) which could be nice for a party of few people. I stayed around the bar, cocktail is consistent w the ones on ground floor. The overall vibe was wonderful.

Arrived at hotel late so booked in for dinner rather than having to find somewhere to eat. Staff were super friendly, all young and oh so stylish... in fact began to wonder where we had booked as not trendy and not young!! But .. the food was great, a little rushed to be honest though and we would have liked to have had more time between courses. Pork with rice was delicious

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. No respect for the customer. No respect for the dining experience. Servers ONLY care about adding gratuity to the check so they don’t have to take you seriously. Please go somewhere else where your dining experience will be respected and the restaurant actually wants you to leave happy. This place is a disaster.

We loved this very cool restaurant! Great menu! Great atmosphere! Great service! Actually part of a hotel! Generous portions too! Highly recommend!

You definitely want to have a drink on the roof top. Nice view on the hills. Cool waiters. Average food but the place is unique.

Incredible views, great drinks, and one of the best burgers I've had, all on the rooftop of Mama Shelter Hollywood, made for a perfect summer afternoon in LA.

We had a great time on July 4th their. A wonderful roof top restaurant and we are going back Saturday!!

Great food, absolutely mouthwatering! It does come at a price though and the view definitely contributes to that price! It is all worth it though.

Brilliant hotel, however restaurant very poor. Food extremely greasy. There is a horrible sticky sweet smell in the restaurant possible from the cocktail making. Roof top bar great atmosphere.

We ate here a couple of times during our stay in the hotel, both upstairs and downstairs. All in all, we felt the food was average despite the pleasant setting. The quality of service did tend to differ; whereas some were really attentive, others were able to serve me a clearly cold coffee without even noticing.

Very disappointed. Very bad choice of music.we thought we were in a cheap Ibiza nightmare! Nothing compared to the one in Paris Never again.

We only had drinks & an appetizer. Service was poor, our glasses were dirty and the app was very bland.

We ate meatballs and beef tartar. Both very well seasoned, tasty. The staff very friendly and helpfull.

Went here for dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. Had the Duck Confit. It was served in a different way than I normally see it, Parmentier style, so instead of a whole duck leg on/next to the sides, it was hand-pulled and placed under mashed potatoes. It was delicious. Our waiter, who by the way was really cool, mentioned the Executive Chef Giselle Wellman, is a contestant on Bravo's Top Chef. The place mostly had Millennial types, which added to the unique atmosphere in a good way, as it brought me back to when I did the same type of things their age. With good food, drinks and music, I really had a great experience. Don't forget to read what's written on the chalkboard ceilings, you'll get a laugh on what's up there.

In town visiting my son. He has been wanting to take me out to Mama's for awhile. He purposefully made a rooftop dinner reservation in person a week in advance. When we arrived the "gatekeeper" at the elevator was rather snotty and said no reservation existed, but we could eat in the restaurant. My son politely showed his displeasure and we were "allowed" upstairs. The upstairs host who clearly recognized my son also said we didn't have a reservation. Once again polite insistence got us a lovely table for two. Let's just say all the hype to get to the roof didn't play out all that well on the dining front. The avocado humus dip was very nice, a fine fresh green salad- not over dressed was pleasant, salmon was watery and smelled fishy - probably frozen not fresh. My real dismay was the "chef's pizza" - prosciutto and carmelized onions sounded lovely until it showed up on a spicy tomato sauce totally hiding the flavor of the meat and onions. Come on who does that - a nice fontina cream sauce lightly on the surface with prosciutto and carmelized onions would have been perfect. Our waiter was attentive when who could be - they had that poor guy running all over the place. So the lesson here for Mama - is take some advice from your experienced mamas: treat your customers nice, make yummy wholesome food, and quit taking yourself so seriously - you aren't the only game in town.

It was a windy day in LA. Super bummed to miss sunset from the rooftop, which was closed, but decided to stay anyway. What a treat! Mama Shelter has a well thought out menu with creativity in every dish. Atmosphere was hip and comfortable. Our group was diverse in age from 25-65 and every one had a great experience. Highlight was the roasted corn side and short ribs. Decent selection of beer and the girls enjoyed a variety of really tasty cocktails. Would definitely return!

My visit to the rooftop restaurant was really disappointing for our entire party of 5. The restaurant only recently opened so I'm going to attribute part of the problem to lack of organization and staff training. Our waiter, Ricky, took 45 minutes to get our first round of drinks. After he brought us our food, the waiter never came back in the following 1.5 hours that we sat there. We actually had to get up from the table to request the check, which was overpriced for the quality of what we ordered. The pita bread was the best thing we ate, even though the various spreads it was served with were all overly sweet. The artichokes were over-cooked and bland. If it weren't for the lovely views and lively setting with friends, we would have been a failure of an outing.

What i loved: Hotel is amazing. It has that funk feel to it with fun pictures and fun writings all over the place. You would never get bored in this hotel. Rooftop bar and 1st floor bar and restaurant are excellent. Food is reasonable and great tasting. Happy hour drinks are pretty cheap too. What i did not like: Hotel is right next to Hollywood blvd. I assumed hollywood blvd to be this fun place. And what i did not know that Hollywood Blvd is just a pile crappy and weird shops , with drunks , homeless and prostitutes just walking around. (I was approached by a few weirdos several times) . This was our first time in LA but walk of fame imo is overrated. Only thing there to see is chinese theatre, wax museum and Ripley's believe it or not. Rest of the place is piece of garbage. California has a drought and the tap water tastes horrible. Mama Shelter's vending machines have all kind of crap but no bottled water. The bar chargers $11 for a bottle of water. Only other way to get water is to walk outside the hotel to Hollywood blvd to purchase water (which btw you don't wanna do at night). What kind of hotel does not have simple bottled water? That's just stupid. I mean how can you have a great hotel and not have proper water for people to drink. So i knocked 1 star for bottled water issue. I didn't knock a star for disgusting Hollywood because it was my fault for not doing proper research. I am glad that during this trip we also stayed in West Hollywood and near Sequoia national park. Both are fun places. We probably wont stay at Mama Shelter again primarily due to its location. But overall the hotel is great. On another note ,God bless Uber. Best and cheap way to travelaround LA.

Have eaten here a couple of times since it is so convenient staying in the hotel, but it never disappoints. Whichever dish i chose, it was always good and I never worried taking friends here; they all shared my feeling - good food for a good price.

I went here once, service, food quality and ambience was mediocre. Very expensive for what I got. Second time I was just tired so couldn't be bothered to venture further than the hotel. Forceably told to go away because there was a private function. No warning signs! Escorted to the elevator and then growled at again because I needed 30 seconds to come up with a plan of action with my colleague. Any hotel that wants to treat its guests as criminals has something wrong with it.

Awesome cuisine for this little hallway resto heavy decorated with taste, ordered the Porkbelly which was deliciously combined with beans and cherry tomatoes and a tasty cream sauce, my son ordered Spanish style octopus which was delicious too. A little but would be the portions which could be more generous.

With hurricane Hilary coming down on LA we decided to stay in at the Mama Shelter’s restaurant, and I can say with confidence that it was an amazing decision. All the food was fresh, tasty and presented beautifully.

The company I work for held a private event recently on the Mama Shelter Rooftop, and the entire experience was fantastic! We do these types of networking events around the country, and this was easily the best one we have had. That rooftop is such a cool space and our guests were all wowed by it. You can't beat that view. The service from their team was stellar! Amanda did a great job of helping us set up and plan the event, and all of the staff were very accommodating and helpful when we got on site. Bobby, one of the bartenders, really impressed me when he went from behind the bar to take drink orders from guests towards the back who were having trouble getting through the crowd to the bar. He wasn’t even asked to do it, just recognized the issue and did it on his own. Phil did a great job monitoring our food platters and ensuring they were never empty. And speaking of the food, it was all incredible! The guests I spoke to were raving about it the next day. Definitely order the miso salmon because everyone said it was their favorite, but all of the dishes we ordered were excellent.

Please keep in mind, That depending on what kind of water you order, it would most likely be $9 if you get still water (don't say I didnt warn you. Also depending on where you sit, you could get a good view of the Hollywood view. If you end up going for lunch , arrive early so you could get a great seat. Food wasn't bad but a bit pricy.

We were staying at the Mama Shelter hotel so we spent an afternoon having drinks on the roof and also had lunch here another day. The bar is full of hipsters and beautiful young things so if that's not your thing, I recommend you steer clear :-) we were definitely the oldest people there! There's a clear view of the Hollywood sign which is nice. The atmosphere is relaxed and that's helped by the fact that there's beds to sit/lay on instead of tables and chairs. Service was great considering how busy it was up there - although some of the male servers seemed more interested in strutting their stuff than actually serving. Drinks are obviously expensive given the location and the view. Lunch was very nice. The menu is limited but sufficient and we only wanted a burger anyway. Again, if you want something cheap, go elsewhere!

Beware of the floor of the roof!! Last week I visited Mama Shelter with a friend. We were sitting on stools near the back and my phone slipped out of my hand and fell straight between two wood slats - underneath the roof. Why the flooring is situated so the wood panels are wide enough for a phone to fall through continues to boggle me. We immediately found management to explain what happened, they took our information, told us not to worry and that the engineer would be able to get the phone out the next day and to call in the morning. With the help of my friend, we called first thing the next morning. Strike 1: Turns out, the front desk had not been informed of the situation - management hadn't passed along what happened despite promising to to do s. The man I spoke with then called the engineer who told him he did not have time in his schedule to deal with it until the following day, which would mean two days sans phone. So I drove over to the hotel to speak directly to them. I was then told they would need a second engineer (who arrives in a few hours) to get the phone out, but I would definitely have it by late afternoon. I left and went back home. Strike 2: The hotel calls my friend shortly after to tell them they will not be able to get the phone out after all because "we can't reach it" and to relay the information to me. They offered no help in the least, nor did they offer to speak to me directly when my friend said that excuse was unacceptable. I then drive back to the hotel for the second time. Strike 3: At this point, I am informed that no, they can not get the phone out (despite having told me several times over the course of the two days "this happens all the time!" which I still don't understand why this is used as a supposed positive, your roof should not be set up so poorly that phones, credit cards and jewelry are often falling through it!) and that it was my fault for dropping it in the first place. Supposedly the phone had fallen under a spot in the roof they did not feel comfortable reaching because "there might be wires under there." I was then told if I wanted to pay to have a crew come lift off the roof, I was more than welcome to do so. At no point did anybody offer apologies, monetary compensation, efforts to fix the roof's flooring so this would happen again, etc. The attitude of this man was beyond cruel and condescending. I used to be a regular visitor of Mama Shelter, but I will NEVER be returning and as my friends are aware of what happened, as well as the inexcusable customer service, they will choose another rooftop to visit too. Though the phone slipping out of my hands was indeed my fault, management's treatment of me and handling of the situation was absolutely horrific. I hope nobody else ever experiences this.

We visited this restaurant originally to get a meal but unfortunately was not able to find what we wanted on the menu so decided to settle for a drink instead. We asked which wines they had and were told that we could have house wine which was fine and had 2 small glasses. The wine was advertised at $7 a glass during happy hour but we didn’t know the normal price and were totally shocked when the bar tender requested $37.70 and also asked if he could keep the change! We checked the price on the menu after that and should have been $14 per glass which was still very expensive but wondered how much they charge in tax and service?

I am a frequent customer of all the french Mama's and was impatient to try this one. I booked 2 weeks in advance and was very disappointed. The ambiance is not so trendy as it is in france, and if American people can't be trusted to serve a hamburger cooked as required and warm, then...there is something rotten in the kingdom of Denmark.

Had dinner with some friends here and loved the rooftop. I actually had no idea they had the rooftop when I got there and got a drink downstairs which was also nice! Overall, the food was pretty solid. I had a wagu beef burger and the steak nachos. Nachos were ok, steak was excellent. Prices were a bit high but I guess you pay for the view. I don't think I'd need to go back but worth a try for the view.

I'm completely into places such as Mama's. Restaurant on the first floor, hotel above, and rooftop bar with lounge chairs (roof top isn't open yet, but pics look amazing). It's a casual friendly traveler atmosphere. The space has a ton of fun art work and sayings. The waffles are a must have! Not only are the portions big, the price is very reasonable too. The breakfast sandwich was equally amazing as well! With the prices we thought portions would be small, so we over ordered, but portions were excellent. Cannot wait for my next visit to try a new waffle selection!

We had breakfast downstairs which was really tasty - staff brilliant as always! We had green tea, fruit juice, potato latke and chilaquiles - all delicious! Generous portions for reasonable prices. Enjoyed it so much we went back the next morning to try the waffles - banana bam and taco - again, all delicious! Also went to the upstairs rooftop restaurant which is a must! We went for the salmon and sausage pizza - loved it! Great drink selection with great views and staff didn't rush you. Would definitely recommend!

The food and service here were both excellent. The restaurant has a separate entrance to the bar area and there was a dj playing which added to the atmosphere. the steak and ribs were delicious. Try the avocado humuus.

I visited the rooftop bar / restaurant after work with a friend. The atmosphere is amazing. Lots of plants, good lounging areas, wide bar with lots of seats (if you get there early.) The drinks were good but a bit spendy ($15 for a mixed drink.) We decided to get some food. I ordered the beet salad. It was good but small for $15. Im pretty sure corn nuts are one of the ingredients. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it added a nice texture, but again not worth the $$ for what you get. PLENTY of other restos in the area have better. My friend ordered the burger for $20. It was terrible. A frozen patty with a side of frozen potato pucks- clearly out of a bag. It tasted like a cheap diner burger. Even Mel's Diner down the street has a tastier burger than this. My Take away - come for the drinks and atmosphere, pass on the food.

Perfect stop for a drink with a view. Their roof space is impressive, lots of plants and colorful furniture, plus great views of Hollywood. Great for couples or big groups!

Was staying at the hotel and had the chance to try out both the impossible burger, and also the chicken sandwich. Both were great! Also their pancakes, acai bowl and avocado toasts are amazing.

Came by for dinner and had a hard time to decide as they had many delicious things on the menu. Had the skirt steak and it was really good with fresh ingredients. If I could I would give them 3,5 but if I think about other 4 places and considering the price it goes to 3. Also on the downside was my glass of red wine served way too warm.

One of the best dinner than I had! Great food( everything was perfect) great drinks 🍹… staff was awesome 👏! Wow!

We booked reservations for the downstairs, but went upstairs, got on the wait list, had a drink, and almost immediately got a seat. Food was pretty good, service so-so. I would expect to share. We had the hummus (cauliflower version), and it was nice; we got the lamb skewers, and if I could do it again, I would have gotten them together. We got the pita panzenella salad which was bomb, and split the steak delmonico. The latter came out cool, as was the mashed potatoes (I hate cold potatoes...who doesn't??!). The waitress was cool about it, and told us she argues with the cook all the time about the steak coming out almost cold...I would fire him personally. But, they gave us a round of drinks free, so I can't complain.

Beware of the hidden costs. The price and quality is as advertised. It is nice, friendly, clean hotel with a sense of eclectic design. The location is a little of the path. I booked the room because of the great reviews, which I do not disagree with but be prepared to pay $40 for parking per day. The rooms do not have complimentary coffee or water.. The urban setting makes for early morning wake-up calls ( garbage trucks). I recommend staying here however take a taxi/uber, rent a car with lots of insurance and parking on the street.....or pay.

This place has a young lively feel. There are some beautiful views. They are a little attitudey downstairs saying that you have to wait for a table upstairs ( rooftop is first come first serve) but one you are up it's beautiful and fun. The food was good. We had lamp skewers, beet salad, Japanese Elote, burrata/ peach proosciotto, truffle fries and a hangar steak salad. All were good. I would return. Especially nice for an out of town guest bc of close views of the Hollywood sign.

I've been a client of Mama Shelter for several years. Last night I celebrated my daughter's birthday at the main restaurant. I got $280 for a burger and three salads. I asked the waiter if there was a discount for clients. He tells me not. I return to the room 10 minutes later and see 20% discount for guests. I go back to the waiter and he tells me to present the voucher during the meal. No. I'll finish my stay at mama Shelter's but it'll be the last

Great hangout spot in the middle of hollywood with a trendy bar downstairs bar as well as a rooftop where you can also enjoy dinner, brunch, lunch etc. It has a great view of the city!

We ate here twice: Lunch on the rooftop (with a limited menu) and dinner at the restaurant. View from the rooftop is awesome and the food was really great both times.

Make sure you eat at least once at the Mama Shelter. I could compliment this enough. Also the breakfast was delicious

The ambience is very mediterranian ,the delightful bartender Kate was very welcoming and informitave . She explained that their soft opening will be on Tuesday evening, with a rooftop bar to open in the near future. What a great addition to Hollywood as this building has been vacant for as long as I can remember and I have been here over 30 years. Stop by and support this delightful addition to the neighbourhood, The two staff members I met both Kate and Angel were very charming and would make me want to visit again.

Stayed here so over a few days we have eaten breakfast (amazing French toast and the best poached eggs ever). Lunch ( awesome hommus) and dinner( buttermilk fried chicken ) have not had a bad meal yet!!!

The hotel is a hip and trendy hotel located in the heart of Hollywood within walking distance to many local hotspots, restaurants and other destinations. The rooms are well appointed and although small - they are sized just right. The bathrooms are high end marble and subway tile with standalone shower with rain shower and wand. Lighting is hip / neat in the rooms which gives off a great vibe. The beds are ultra comfortable and you will get a great nights sleep. Room thermostat works well too. My room was the back mama but being in 4th floor I had a nice view of downtown LA and the general area. The hotel does have a roof top bar that serves drinks. Nice views and seating. There is a bar / play area on first floor as well a small business area with computers and a restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was great. Dinner on the other hand was outstanding. Complements to the chef - who really knows flavors and tastes and delivers exactly that. All in all great stay. It would have been 5 stars if the hotel rooms had better windows, so not having to hear people talking on roof top bar where voices carry far. Also, while the hotel caters to younger guests some of them seem to be inexperienced with staying in a hotel - carrying on in hallways, being loud and obnoxious in their rooms where the walls seem to be very thin and you can hear everything. There should be signs posted reminding those that carry on past a decent time when noise should be kept to a minimum for everyone’s sake. I’d likely not stay here again when traveling on business.

Good service and nice food. Although I didn't quite understand why there were so many nachos in my plate. There was actually not a lot of eggs neither avocado! A bit pricey but it's worth it.

We checked out the 5th floor rooftop bar to grab a bite to eat. It was getting cold and windy, so we decided to go downstairs. There is a bar area with TVs running and popcorn available. The restaurant on the other side has a good layout with lots of wicker style low hanging lamps. Our waiter was very attentive and knew the menu well. We order several interesting appetizers, drinks and yummy deserts. All in all, we were happy being there. At no point did we feel rushed to vacate our table.

The views from the rooftop were awesome along with the cocktails and service. The food in the restaurant on the first floor was much better than I was expecting. With our group, people seemed to really like the burger and the fried chicken though it was kinda pricey for what you get. I believe the friend chicken (3-4 pieces with fries) was around $18. The cocktails were $14, but were all very good also.

For hipsters but not only... I enjoyed the BbQ smoked salmon with the house fries (sides). The dessert was okay. However I wasn't impressed by their cocktails (maybe I didn't pick the right one...). Good location.

30 minutes of being ignored by a rude waitress. Other restaurant staff pretending to looking elsewhere why not too busy… unbelievable..

I had planned to visit this bar for months while on vacation in Los Angeles...and it didn't disappoint. The bespoke cocktails are delicious and the food is both tasty and diet friendly for vegan, gluten free, dairy free etc Service was fast, friendly and the waiter remembered our drinks order across the night. Setting is stunning at sunset and the lounge chairs are divine.

What? I can't hear you? That's right. I think I suffered permanent hearing loss. Okay, I exaggerate, but I do fear for the regulars and the staff here. This rehabbed older hotel has a great look and a great staff. Even the food was good (fine hamburger, interesting faux guacamole starter). But they blast... and I mean BLAST... the music so freaking loud on the rooftop you will lose your hearing. When I first got seated, we picked a table away from the speakers (on the advice of one of the staff), not that you can ever escape the sound. It was bearable at first but very quickly genuinely not pleasant. The crowd was virtually all under 30 when I came and they didn't seem to be grimacing that much, but this is just not healthy for any age. It got so bad we had to move to a considerably lesser table right next to the restroom (where there was no speaker). Better, but not why you come to a rooftop. You want the view of the city, not the men's room. I even asked if they could do something about the sound level, knowing it was futile. I was politely told, no. Much to my surprise, it got worse! Alas, around 5 pm, they turned up the music even louder. How was that possible? I saw some bar staff grooving to this. It's nuts. Honestly, we had to ask for the check and run. Too bad. I would have been a regular. Good location in Hollywood (a little rough and tumble immediate neighborhood but not too bad) and the view from the expansive, purposely funky rooftop is pretty good (you're not up high enough for it to be amazing). Best part of the place was the staff that I met. I'm just not very happy with the person who controls the volume on the speaker level. It was honestly torture. Torture I had to pay for! As the French say, tant pis. Never again, nor would I ever recommend anyone coming here. How fun is it to shout at your friend over the music at any age? There are better roofs.

Very good chic food gourmet American cuisine. Fresh and crafty well prepared stylish dishes. I had roast chicken with fries and it was excellent. The rooftop restaurant at Mama Shelter LA is also very good. Try them both. I love it!

Was very hip and trendy with a great rooftop bar, the rooms were reasonably sized, location was good and the service was great! We’d like to mention Luiz at front desk was amazing with tips and recommendations of where to go and where to eat and made our trip special! Would definitely stay again and at other mama shelters.

This is a great local place. The rooftop is nice, the food is good and the service was excellent. It takes a long time to get up to the roof, so be prepared.

Visited on a Sunday evening for some drinks and to watch the sunset. Some of the best views of the city that we saw. We went early around 4ish and got a table for 4 no problem. But it started to get busy quite quickly so best to get there early. There’s a mix of tables and chairs as well as bed style seats where you can chill out on warmer days. Staff were very nice, recommended cocktails to us and chatted away. Prices were reasonable for the middle of Hollywood approx $13-15 per drink. There was no food on the day we visited upstairs.

My boyfriend and I came here around 7.30pm on a Monday night. It was busy but not too busy that we had to stand in line to get in which is apparently the case during the weekend. But we did had to wait for a table, so count that time in. The view from the rooftop bar is beautiful and I loved seeing the sunset from there. Be aware girls, it gets a little a chilly during the evening with the wind. They do provide blankets but they do not have enough blankets for everyone. Make sure to bring a cardigan or light coat/jacket. The cocktails were really good and the price was in accordance with other rooftop bars. We both ordered the steak with fries. We were a little disappointed by the menu because we checked the menu online but it turned out that this was only the menu for the restaurant downstairs and not the rooftop. So they did not have the complete selection as in the restaurant and on top they add $2 to each meal. The steak was good but it got cold really quickly since it was a little chilly up there and the steak pieces were very small. We were glad we came here and def recommend coming here for drinks!

Both the downstairs restaurant and roof top bar sold delicious food. I had a tofu and noodle salad and my husband had wings on the roof top bar. The following evening we ate in the restaurant I had salmon and my husband had the Wagu burger. The warm buns were also great!

Staying four nights for our honeymoon. Hotel is nice and staff great. Good location. Staying on 4th floor and pretty upset as we were unable to sleep until after the extremely loud bass music stopped at 2am on a Tuesday night!!! Wouldn't have been so bad if we could sleep in but only got 4 hours sleep as there was very loud jack hammering and building work going on from 6.30am until 9am. Not cool!!! It's midnight on our second nights stay (of 4) and the music is going again. It's so loud we still can't sleep! And looking at their event schedule the next 2 nights will be the same :(

Friends and I met up at this quiet but great rooftop worthy restaurant! The food is served downstairs but there is a great rooftop bar upstairs where we all grabbed drinks on a fun and relaxing rooftop that had views of Hollywood. The food was great and worth every penny. The portions are on the smaller side. A friend and I shared the braised beef and sweet potatoes as a side. Everything was very tasty with tons of flavor.

Get there early if you want to get a table on the rooftop. Both the rooftop and downstairs are very lively and crowded. Both the cocktails and food are very good. The music gets better and better as the night goes on and it becomes a party-like atmosphere.

Went to the rooftop bar, where the wait staff made us feel more like an inconvenience than anything else. Bartender was great. Save your time and go to The Highlight Room nearby (at the Dream Hollywood) which is taller, has a better lunch menu, and better views.

It;s great really good food and a fun vibe- a little hip but not in a bad way. Theres a fooseball table between the bar and the dining area. We frequently eat here with the family after our basketball games at the YMCA around the corner.

We couldn't believe how fantastic --the food, service, decor. The breakfast sandwiches on biscuits, the pancakes, the bacon, and the coffee were all top notch! They had cool artwork, MAD magazines to peruse from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Really a fun place.

This is hotel is well placed for visiting hollywood. The rooms are funky and the views from some of the rooms are quite incredible - there are some classic hollywood rooms to be had. The hotel however is more of a bar than a hotel. So if you are there to party and socialise at the bar this is a good place to visit. However if you are there to sleep - it can be difficult. This is what leads me to the charming Annette and Reeva. Whilst not everyone in the hotel may not have understood the definition of a quite room - the ladies did. They dealt with a rather grumpy guest ( me) - with patience and grace and endeavoured to put me in a nice quite room at the back of the hotel ( Still with an incredible view). These staff members are the reason i would use the hotel again - . Other pluses are - you can get a good cup of coffee quite early in the morning - which means you don't have to roam around hollywood at 5am ... ( Reeve stopped me doing this and pointed me towards the end of the bar) - and there is also a gym not far from the hotel which sells 24 hours passes.

I really love this place, the view and the atmosphere is awesome! But the bad gradings comes from the terrible service from the bar personnel. You will have to wait extremely long to order and it's very annoying when the bartender rather talk to other guests and colleagues then taking my order.

We tried to book a table on the rooftop (through the internet) but you can only book for the restaurant inside. We ate somewhere else and we though having a drink later on the rooftop. When we arrived we saw that we could eat there.. The was a lot of space actually. The people working are veyr nice and happy! Prices are fine. Nice view on Hollywood sign!

Great place to hang out with friends. Lovely food to share, cocktails equally as good. Fantastic views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign. Will be back !

Pizza was wet and burned. waited 1 hour for food. ham was straight from a sandwitch and taisted like butter.

A few things. The vibe is hipster slash boho with really cute decor. Where this place falls flat is the service is hit or miss. Some of the staff is friendly and some are rude which is a disappointment. No reason for that. Downstairs bar: Very slow service. Front desk check in for roof top: major attitude. Roof top: amazing views. Mateo, the male bartender is awesome and friendly. The female bartender was rude. TIP: call first to make sure the roof is open. They have private parties up there a lot, so it's often closed or they'll end up kicking you out early to accommodate the party.

UNSAFE! The Phoenix Security guard Jason, hired by Mama Shelter assaulted a member of our family while they were looking for the bathroom. In addition, the manager, Phil laughed at it and started shouting "there was no assault here" and then looked horrified to learn that Jason assaulted an attorney. So then naturally, as one would expect from a place like this, he started panic lying and acting erratic. As we all left, he actually stood around laughing with the staff as we observed through the window. They even went as far as to cancel our reservation on Open Table after checking us in as a way to hopefully keep me from leaving a negative review, it didn't work. We proved we did dine there and honor the reservation so they reinstated our reservation giving me the ability to tell the public the truth about this cesspool. This is obviously going to be escalated by us as a matter of public safety. For anyone wondering, this hotel/restaurant is managed by Accor who has around a 21% stake in the brand. Given that they also manage classy establishments such as Fairmont and Mondrian for polite society, I will be shocked if they are not appalled. The food came out barely lukewarm. The short rib was fatty. They never brought our hot tea. They have no gluten free/dairy free desserts. The management and staff are inappropriately dressed (Phil wearing a white undershirt to work showcasing his belly) the wait staff wears t-shirts and they AUTOMATICALLY ADD 21% gratuity to your check 3% of which is for staff "healthcare", EXUSE ME! That's for the company to pay NOT the patrons. So not only were we assaulted, mistreated and given mediocre at best food but now we are subsidizing staff healthcare. NOPE. NEVER again. Enjoy bankruptcy, no one wants your trashy environment/service.

Awesome cocktails, great sharing menu! We ordered 2 sharing plates and the food was too much for 3 of us to eat!!! Food excellent pairing with cocktails or wine and beer. We also went a second night and had another sharing menu and really enjoyed their take on 'finger food for 2.' Great food and would definitely go there again.

After 22 hours of travelling what more could you want than a comfy bed and a good shower. Mama Shelter offers this and more. Very friendly staff and a central location. The rooftop is beautiful, we were there at a weekend so it was super busy. Lots of young beautiful people hang out here and it can be noisy at night- but you are in L.A so what else would you expect?! It was our honeymoon and the staff went above and beyond for us. I would highly recommend the breakfast too!

Stayed at Mama Shelter late Summer 16 and was seriously impressed with the ground floor restaurant. We first stopped by right after check in as my friend and I were both starving. I went with the burger "Le Royale with Cheese," figured it was only fitting since a copy of the Pulp Fiction script was in our hotel room. Let me tell you it was one of the BEST burgers I had ever had. The ratio of meat to cheese to bun was absolute perfection. We loved the place so much that we wound up coming back every morning for the rest of our trip for a little bite to eat and a coffee before heading out for the day. As a quick side note we did stop at the rooftop restaurant but only for drinks as it was quite hot. It should not be missed for the views alone!

We came here after an Opentable snafu booked us at a restaurant that was closed for a private party on Saturday night. We were a party of 8, and they got us in right away, and treated us very well. The rooftop was booked, so we were in the restaurant area downstairs, which was quite noisy due to its proximity to the very busy bar. However, food and drinks were excellent, as were our server. The whole fried fish entree was excellent, as were the cottage fries. All in all, they saved the day for us and we were grateful. I'd go back for that fish any time!

You won't probably remember the food, but you certainly will remember the vibe and the beautiful view over LA.

Delish food. The brussels sprout ceasar is to die for. Also, burger is a nice treat.Go for the Mama Dog if you are not too hungry.

Already knowing Mama from Paris, Lyon and Bordeaux, I was convinced it would be good, but it actually became my favorite Mama! Diner on the roof top, view on hollywood sign (pleasant to see it when you're just in L.A for holidays) great atmosphere and lights. After diner you can just chill on the gigantic sofas of the bar, or watch a movie, comfy on other sofas, as there is an outdoor cinema or even play soccer...all this still being on the terrace. Burger was delicious. This is a nice place for dates but i could really see myself coming with friends. French defo do it better ;)

Great cocktails, esp the chile vodka number, great ambience and a sublime burger made for a sweet evening with friends. Just the right side of hipster as well.

Great atmosphere and fresh ingredients. Over priced but a unique menu. Friendly service and staff. Rooftop view is wonderful

Got the burger that was listed at $15 each. There was two of us so you would assume the total would be $30 plus tax?? Wrong. They charged us $36 each and I had to get the bill corrected twice before the price was correct. Wasn’t served water until halfway through the meals either....food is way too expensive. Burgers don’t even come with fries.....and I mean for 15 bucks surely you’d expect a little extra than just a burger from here .....

First off I want to say, I like Mamm's Shelter. The roof top is wonderful. Just a nice place to eat or have a cocktail with friends, a great hangout. The food is bar food with a twist. I really enjoyed it and our waiter. The not good part is the attitude with the people downstairs letting you up. They do not take reservations, which I understand. But I don't really liked being talked down to..... do you? I will try to go back to see how that works again, Although after speaking to friends they have had the same experience, we will see. If I do encounter the attitude that can't seem to be nice when they say you have to wait. I will NOT be going back or sending any one else to Mamma's Shelter.

The food and service here are fantastic. The artwork is a great conversation starter and your server will take good care of you.

They bring you a tempting menu but underneath it says in small print that there is a surcharge of 18% plus another fee in addition to the tip they then ask you at the end.

Very tasty french style food. Good products. Nice cosy design. Friendly staff. 10' walk from Hollywood bd. ( meatballs, salads with salmon , salads with chicken and rice, avocado toasts, buns: all very tasty).

My two friends from acting class and I had lunch here several times and I absolutely adore the Chopped Salad. The ability to add eggs and extra veggies/meat to a dish is wonderful. The fish is always fresh daily from the market and if you're a fast-food lover they have delicious fried chicken. The staff is always really sweet and understanding (Handsome/Pretty as well).

Stumbled into this place while walking around on our first day in LA. After a couple of hours didn't want to leave Looked after by a great bartender called Ferrari Fantastic mojitos Interesting place with the chalkboard ceiling

We went to the rooftop for drinks and light lunch, after visiting the Walk of Fame. The relaxed ambiance was a welcome change from hectic Hollywood Blvd. Superb 360 degrees views. Selection and quality of food and drinks was great. This venue attracts younger crowds, so being in our 40s, we felt a little out of place.

We always look for local eating options when we are on vacation in a new city. Found this on Trip Advisor and decided to give it a try for breakfast. We were not disappointed. Everything from the service to the coffee and food was great. I would definitely go back and highly recommend trying this place.

During my stay at Mama Shelter Hotel (5 Star experience) I had breakfast at the restaurant. The breakfast was okay but nothing more. Between price and performance is still a gap.

Had a fantastic dinner at Mama Shelter. Food was faultless and service was spot on. From the appetizers to the dessert, it was all delicious. Thank you.

I like the Mama Shelter brand and after visiting the one in Bordeaux France decided to give this one a try. The rooftop is very nice and cosy in Mama Shelter style with big cushioned seats and nice lighting. Cocktails the normal LA prices for this type of place but good music and nice relaxed venue. Would go back

My wife and I stayed for a couple of nights after a long trip to the USA earlier this year. We were initially worried that at our age it would be too "funky" for us. Our fears were quickly allayed when we were made to feel welcome by all the staff. The hotel is perfectly positioned. The bedrooms are small but functional, clean and comfortable. We had great nights sleeps here. The restaurant is great with good wholesome food. The bars rock. We visited both the rooftop bar and the one in the foyer. Both great. If you're looking for something different, this is the place!

Service staff very friendly, and helpful. Great food presented well and ingredients are fresh and delicious

We ate here on a recent visit to LA to visit friends. It was a little quite and we came right at dinner time, but perhaps because it was a Tuesday night. The restaurant is part of a boutique hotel and you almost wouldn't even notice that it was there from the outside. The interior is not too exciting so we weren't sure what to expect however, when we got to the food portion we were very satisfied. We started with the avocado hummus which was delicious. Then we had the brussels sprout caesar which was incredible. One of the best salads I ever had. Then all of us ordered the fried chicken. Now this is not something I would normally order in a restaurant but our very nice waitress assured me that it's not a typical fried chicken as it's deboned and very easy to eat and she was right! This was one of the best fried chicken dishes I ever had. Small enough, manageable pieces that had the best flavor and felt like were home cooked. We also ordered a side of the black rice. Once again, I'm not a big rice person but this rice was so tasty and very different. Very moist and seemed like there was some cheese in it that made it so flavorful. Our waitress was extremely friendly and for all of us girls who ordered wine they provided a very "solid" pour! It's been a few weeks and I'm already craving that meal again. Would definitely recommend.
Sensational...
Enjoyed a 3 course meal at Mama’s during a holiday in LA with our family. The restaurant is modern, relaxed and welcoming. The service is as good as it gets and the food is out of this world. A terrific experience and one I wholeheartedly recommend! (Do yourself a favour and try the Fried Rice with Pork Belly!)
