Very Happy Happy Hour

By BiscottiMaker |

Great service, very good food, and an all-day Monday Happy Hour -- what could be better? We had wine and nibbled various small share plates for a fantastic evening, all from the well priced and creative Happy Hour menu. Unlike other Happy Hour menus with their emphasis on deep fried items, Momma Melina offers a very nice range of items including salad, antipasto, pasta, meats, and calamari (fried or sauteed).

A Delightful Dinner

By Denver7889 |

It was theFirst time at this restaurant but not the last. This is a well staffed and busy place. Sean took great care of us with good recommendations for food and drink. We shared the carpaccio to start and ordered a x-rated tini and a Milano Fashioned. Both drinks were excellent and generous. We ordered the pork tenderloin and the penne pasta which were excellent. We closed out dinner with dessert and coffee. All in all it was a great experience.

elegant, friendly, delicious

I was staying near university avenue and this restaurant, although in the university district is not walkable from university avenue (well, ok, you can walk to florida from university avenue too, it's just that I wouldn't recommend it.) my wife and I called uber and when we arrived, we were greeted with a lovely building with wonderful outdoor dining space in the front with umbrellas as shade. we requested to sit outside and were accommodated by the hostess who along with the host that evening was very nice. they even relocated us when we discovered that our initial table was next to the outdoor sofa occupied by three cackling witches straight out of Macbeth. once resituated, the waitress was upbeat and bubbly. we order a glass of wine each from the restaurant's extensive list. the appetizers all looked great, but my wife and I wanted to try their 10" pizza as an appetizer and it was great. my wife wanted the fresh parpadelle but not as prepared as a special of the day, and the restaurant was more than happy to give her a side order in bolegnese sauce to go with a side of their wonderful spicy meatballs. originally, that was what I wanted to order, but once my wife heard me ask, she wanted it and I relented because we usually don't order the same entrée so that we can try the others. I still wanted something traditional and I order the lasagna which was great. The real world seattle on mtv was filming there on the night we were there and the women of that show couldn't have chosen a more refined place to eat. I shake in horror to think of my dining choices that night on university avenue. thank god mamma melina rescued us. forget all the restaurants near pike place. get in your car and drive out here. you won't be disappointed. parents getting your kids settled at the university? the minute you are free from them. come to mamma melina's and start enjoying life without kids (or less kids.)

Excellent meal in nice room

By BunkyVA |

Three of us had dinner here. Extensive & interesting menu. Caesar salads and 3 pastas were all excellent, as was tiramisu. Langhe nebbiola was fine at attractive price. Service was fine also. Large room had a good buzz. Price reasonable for this quality restaurant. Can't go wrong here.

Happy Hour

By tonytD9568SZ |

Went to MM's late nite Happy Hour . This restaurant offers a great late night special of $4.50 beers & $5.50 Specialty drinks plus several pizzas at $8 or 50% off bar menu list. Service was good and good was tasty . Happy hour Beers included Manny's , Peroni & one other . Ordered Margherita pizza which feed four of us plus an order of Calamari which was done just right .

FABULOUS FOOD & STAFF!

By TamKatzin |

Initially, Mamma Melina's began as a favorite dinner place for special occasions. However, once I started working near the location it became a favorite lunch spot for a group of us... and then "the" spot for happy hour! The food quality is always consistent... from Italian mains to various other specialty dishes, and they have some of the best pizza around. The prices are great and if you are fortunate to find a table in the bar around "happy hour", they have a special priced menu and $15 bottles of wine. (One of the few restaurants that actually has excellent wine choices for their special bottle pricing as well as their house wines.) The staff has always been great (we have our favorites, of course)... and the manager and owner are always on target with everything they do. Truly a great place to go!

Good lunch!

By Gabriel Geronazzo |

I had a lunch with two friends this sunday in Mamma Melina. The restaurant is very nice and serves italian dishes, from appetizers to pizzas and desserts. The prices are a bit high but saturday and sunday there is the happy hour! The food is very good while the beverages should be improved (the icetea was like water and the wine wasn't very good). Except from this, I highly recommend this restaurant!

Nice place, good food, very good service

By John H |

Four of us went for dinner. It gets pretty busy, so make a reservation. Between us we tried a variety of dishes and they were very good. My spaghetti alle vongole was a little too al dente, but overall quite good. Their halibut was very good. Prices are reasonable. Service was very good. Would happily go back.

Rare honesty that needs to be called out

By David N |

I hosted a large party (of 21) at Mamma Melina. Food, ambiance & service was great. We also had 6 bottles of wine form our farm and this was handled without a problem. When I paid the bill I didn't notice that the gratuity had been added so added a large tip. We departed and the manager rushed outside to bring the 'double tip' to my attention. This was my mistake and I really appreciated the honestly. Many others would have pocketed the additional $300 or so. This made an enjoyable evening even more enjoyable.

Very good but not without a reservation

By Lia B |

Good place, decent food (although not mind-blowing), VERY popular. Our schedule was uncertain so we didn't make reservations. When we arrived, we were told we'd have a 30-minute wait. Not a problem, since we didn't have a res. By the time we were seated nearly 90 minutes later, the staff were very apologetic and seemed surprised that we'd waited that long. They had given us complimentary slices of very delicious pizza while we waited, and told us that they'd make it "worth our while." The "pizza guy," Aaron, was fantastic. Moderately priced, esp for Seattle. Three of four people chose an on-the-cheaper-side entree and one (a child) chose an appetizer + three Shirley Temples + one adult beverage = $95. I'd go back, but I'd be sure to have a reservation.

Delicious food, excellent service

By SeattleAvidtraveler |

We recently had a family celebration at Mamma Melina's. The menu was complete enough to satisfy everyone in the party, and every item ordered was DELICIOUS. I would recommend this restaurant to even the most discriminating diner. The service was also superb. Kudos to Zoe.

Great food!

By Travel 1 |

Good pasta, very good lamb shank. Outdoor seating when the weather is nice. Can be noisy inside when it's crowded and difficult to have a conversation. Parking is available.

Above average Italian food.

By JRwisconsin |

We have been to Mamma Melina's twice. The most recent visit, while the food was fine, was marred by the fact that it was so loud at the center table we were given (in spite of our reservation) that we could barely hear ourselves think, much less have a nice conversation with the couple we had come with. I would not go back without an assurance we could have a booth where there was at least some chance of quiet and calm.

Great Service! Great Monday Happy Hour

By Cindyandfriends |

A friend recommended stopping by Mamma Melina's for happy hour... we had about an hour before an event. Wow! What amazing service from the whole wait staff, but especially our waitperson Traci. The restaurant was packed, but she was attentive, knowledgeable, great with offering gluten free options to my friend, and brought us our check knowing we had a time constraint. I'll definitely be back!

Good, not great

By Glenn O |

We started with a very good bruschetta and a pleasant Prosecco. The chicken dish was good but with a underwhelming sauce. A special polpete meatball pizza had only an average red sauce. The service was flawless and fast . The setting is pleasant. Maybe if we had ordered a pasta dish we would have been more impressed, but not close to a 4.5 average rating.

Lovely Lunch

By Rumples |

I am not much of a shopper, but I always look forward to going to the University Village mall. That's because I plan my visit to coincide with lunch at Mamma Melina, about a 2-minute drive away from there. This charming Italian restaurant stands in a corner location with a big attached garage that offers up to three hours of free parking. On our most recent visit, we stopped by at 2:30 p.m. on a Sunday without reservations. This presented no problem because only one table had customers on the outside patio and the sparkling, large interior had many vacant tables. We chose a booth and instantly received water and menus. Bread followed almost immediately. The lunch menu offers a variety of starters, main courses and desserts. Customers are invited to choose a starter or a dessert with a main course for $16.50, which I consider to be a really good value in expensive Seattle. I opted for a beet salad with goat cheese and walnut and an 8-inch Margherita pizza with fresh mozzarella. My husband chose romaine heart salad with shaved parmigiano and a main course of grilled Steelhead. Everything proved to be delicious and perfectly prepared as always, though I could have done with fewer spice leaves in my salad. But I simply removed them. The setting was perfect for lunch -- an extremely low noise level and extensive outside views through big windows. Ceiling art always captures my attention and I like the airy feeling provided by high ceilings and much natural light. Staff excels at service. The greeter was cordial and helpful. Our waitress was extremely pleasant, prompt and attentive. We look forward to the service here as much as the food. It looks like I'll need to find a reason to go to University Village again in the not-too-distant future.

Nice dinner spot

By ryanc1174 |

Dinner was great.....had a halibut on special with gnocchi and both were delicious. Seems a popular place for happy hour/after work, as we were there on a Thursday night and restaurant and bar areas were both packed. Definitely will be back!

Excellent food

By ad0121 |

This restaurant has great outdoor dining. The service is excellent. The specials are on point. I truly enjoyed my meal.

Outstanding and consistent Italian fare.

By Jose G L |

I take my son to this wonderful restaurant every time I come to Seattle to visit with him. The atmosphere , beautiful, the attention, impeccable , the food, always delicious . This time we ordered caprese salad, pasta e fagioli soup, and then fettuccine with salmon and ravioli. For dessert , cannoli and cake prepared with olive oil, outstanding everything. We went at lunch time, there is a fix price menu that is value. In other times I ordered fettuccine with bolognese sauce, the best I have tried in the whole US, only have had a better one in Italy. Highly recommended , I will return.

Mamma Melina never disappoints me (except noisy)

By Jody_11 |

I think I have reviewed before, but it's been some time, and I just had another wonderful meal at Mamma Melina. We had a booth, which did cut down on the noisiness (and being away from the bar, esp. important if it's happy hour). Since they moved from their homey spot on Roosevelt, the food has gotten even better, just less ambience, perhaps aimed toward the younger crowd--not surprising as it's a stone's throw from University of Washington campus. Wine list is excellent, I especially love the octopus salad; this time I had an awesome pizza special and took half of it home. Service a little spotty this time, not bad, but a bit surprising because it was not a busy night.

Excellent Happy Hour

By Gary O |

This has to be one of the best food happy hours in this part of Seattle. Fine dining is great too. The bar menu offers really fine food at great prices.

Lovely lunch options

By seattlefoodlover2016 |

Some friends and I met at Mamma Melina's and I loved their 2 course option lunches - either hors doevre/entree or entree/dessert. Service was a bit slow, but food was great.

Pre-wedding dinner for 50 out of town guests

By tcthomas45 |

My daughter got married in June. We hosted a dinner for the out of town guests the night before the wedding at Mamma Melina's. It was great! Roberto worked with me prior to the event to help me decide on a menu. The food was delicious and the wait staff was very attentive. Parking was easy and free.

Good Italian Food

By Todd D |

This is a very nice Italian restaurant. Really good atmosphere and within walking distance to sites around the restaurant. They had a good wine list and also good choice of specials and regular menu items. I had the porkchop which was excellent. The food is really good quality and I did not find the prices too bad. I would certainly eat here again.

Great food & ambiance

By Susannahfoodie |

We love this restaurant. The Happy Hour is great if you are able to get a table. Eating outside is a treat. The food and service are excellent. It can all add up if you are ordering off the dinner menu, but I have always felt it was worth it. We always eat here when we are visiting Seattle and staying at the Silver Cloud across the street.

Italian

By jddslucas2 |

This was a nice little restaurant in the neighborhood we stayed in. Price was ok. I was looking for the usual italian dishes, but they didn't have what i wanted. They did change the veal to chichen for me on the Marsala dish. Very friendly staff and floor manager. he told us about his travels on the crab boats

Bland Food

By DJDofKIRK |

We went for lunch and ordered the two course lunch special which was well priced. Had an over dressed Caesar salad followed by ravioli which was bland. My husbands vegetable risotto was equally underwhelming.

Delicious

By Charity T |

My husband, 10 year old daughter and I had dinner at Mamma Melina Ristorante while we were on vacation in Seattle. This is a fine-dining experience at a moderate price. My favorite part of the decor are the prints of Italian art (Modigliani.. etc) hanging on the ceiling. The complimentary bread and dipping oil/vinegar were ok. We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer and my husband and I loved it. Believe it or not, pickled onions are delicious on top of Brie cheese. Next we had our entrees. I had the fettuccine bolognese (highly recommend), my husband got the ravioli (ate it all), and my very picky daughter had the penne pasta with butter and Parmesan (and said it was yummy). Our waiter, Cole, was very helpful despite our odd requests and questions. He had a great sense of humor and maintained professionalism. I would definitely go back, and I would recommend anyone else have dinner at Mamma Melina!

Did a good job with a huge group

By eab405 |

We came here for a work event with like 30 people. The menu was preset, but there was lots of choice. The antipasta was very good as was the pork. The gnocchi was not the best and the tiramisu was really a cake rather than the real thing. We were a huge group so the service was a bit slow, but that is expected.

Nice place

By Avi E |

Hmmm, as my soon put it, if the city has a rating system and this place got a C shouldn’t that tell you something? The venue and atmosphere were really spot on but that’s all it had going for it. Staff was nice, so that too. I give it an Average rating for the atmosphere but price and quality knock it down to Poor. Very disappointed Seattle! No pictures, didn’t want to waste memory in my phone.

A good meal in attractive restaurant in the University District

By RShereff |

We were welcomed for a late night dinner. Bar scene was still active. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful and bar tender generous. Our appetizers were their Vongole con fagiole e pancetta that was excellent and Insalata di polipo, which was also very good. For our main course, I had the Ossobuco di agnello that I thoroughly enjoyed; my wife had Bronzino that was nicely prepared. The wine list was reasonably priced and had a good selection. We were fortunate to find a good meal, late at night across from our hotel.

just visiting

By M0t0man |

Food bland although portions were good. Disappointed in copper river salmon preparation and Osso buco. Place was crowded so not sure if attractions was portion size or just convenience

UNFORTUNATE VIRUS IRRITATIONS

By STEVE C |

We got a table outside after the greeter took our temperatures without even asking permission. Then we sit down and ask for a menu. They have none: "You can get it on your Smart Phone." I reply that I do not own one and wonder about a simple paper copy of their menu. So the server says they have no such copies "in order to preserve resources!" How much would a paper copy cost them? Then he brings the wrong pizza! To his credit, after bringing the correct pizza, he gave me a free drink. I personally think their caution is over the top.

Neighborhood Restaurant

By David177 |

Mamma Melina is a very nice neighborhood restaurant serving authentic Italian food. I loved the Vitello ai funghi selvatici. The staff is friendly and accommodating, prices are reasonable, and also very important – convenient parking.

Noisy, Crowded, But Good Location and Food

By Lartemis |

We were staying at the Silver Cloud Inn and this restaurant was right across the street, so we were able to walk. The service and food were excellent. My complains come from being an older lady from a small town. I don't like crowded, noisy restaurants and we had to wait for a table on stools at a bar that was very narrow with people on both sides. We were asked if we would like to eat there. Heavens no! The lady sitting somewhat opposite me had her main course brought there and I felt like I was breathing directly onto her food. I could have taken a bite off her plate with ease (and wanted to, it smelled delicious). Luckily we were given a booth and were instantly out of the crush and the noise. Much better. From there on, this little old lady enjoyed her meal at Mamma Melina's and walked across the street to bed.

Perfect for just the two of you or for our goup of 14

By Gary R |

Since we had a large group, we were able to make a reservation with all our meal choices in advance. So we just show up and they serve the food, all comes at the same time, hot and ready to eat. The atmosphere is perfect for a private evening for the lovers or the big group celebration. If your group is not too big outside dining is also available.

Great food

By Philbur |

Busy busy busy but seated within 15 mins of reservation time so lose a star for that - reservations should run to time. however the food was really good & the service excellent. The Antipasto Misto at the chefs whim was really good but their parma ham appetizer is excellent & enough for 2. try the Fettucine Bolognese its the best we have tasted in Seattle.

Very Romantic

By Travelendude |

What a nice restaurant! Candlelight, lit up onyx bar, flaming brandy glasses. Great food, large portions, awesome server. We had the salmon special and it was great. We will go back there for sure!

The bread is outstanding

By Miamethyst |

The staff and the bread is out of this world! Lovely and Lively place for a meal on a Friday night. good food, but the bread I mean wow

Below Its Usual Standard

By Rumples |

Whenever we run errands in Seattle’s University District, we like to time our visit so we can eat lunch at Mamma Melina. This Italian restaurant has a really good-value 2-course menu then with many offerings and the food has always been excellent. But we arrived about 4:30 p.m. and that special had ended. The greeter initially ignored us and seemed rather grumpy when he acknowledged our presence. Finally, we were seated at a table in the big, beautiful, airy dining room and had dinner menus. We decided to split the beet, walnut and goat cheese salad. I chose chicken parmigiana for my main and my husband opted for lasagna. The salad was OK, but nothing special. My chicken proved to be tender and tasty but hard to find because of the massive amount of tomato sauce over it, which detracted from the dish. My husband noted that the lasagna had too much cheese. Our server was perfunctory and rarely anywhere in sight. A few customers sat in the dining room but the bar area was mostly full. That’s when I remembered the extremely good-value Happy Hour here with a large number of offerings. If we miss lunch in the future, we will head to the bar, where customers must sit for those Happy Hour prices. A parking garage attached to the restaurant offers free parking for patrons of Mamma Melina, and we left our car there.

Great happy hour!

By nationalbiscuit |

Heard this was a go-to for some of the best happy hour in the area! It was really nice, they have a varied selection on the bar menu. We enjoyed some cocktails, pizza and the meatballs and everything was delicious.

Delish and Fun Local Place

By MargaretMaugenest |

Happy Hours is a fantastic deal. My Mom and I shared a pizza, Caesar salad, and had a glass of wine each for about $30. Wish we could have done the 16.50 2 course lunch, too. Their octopus salad and Tiramiso were especially delicious.

Great happy hour!

By Krisinseattle |

We opted for the bar since there was a long wait for a table. Happy hour goes until 7 and has good options on food. Wine choices are limited. We enjoyed the Caesar salad ($4.50), the Broccoli- which was delicious ($6.50), am order of the Canneloni - average ($11.00), and the Spicy meatball and polenta - very good ($6.50). The happy hour price in wine was $6.50 glass and on other around $10 glass. Total for 2 before tip $67.00. Service was friendly and hustling. Only negative was the bartender had quite a cough that was a bit uncomfortable as far as hygiene. Great place. If you want a table, go early or make a reservation.

Great food, service, ambience and value!

By Robbinsesq |

Our party of four was promptly seated, and our waitperson greeted us and asked for our drink orders. My daughter-in-law asked about two of the wines that we were trying to decide between, and we were offered a glass of each to taste. I'm not used to that! Each of our entrees was beautifully presented, and each of us was very pleased. The desserts were also wonderful! I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Consistently Great Food & Service

By Marta V |

We have been going to Mama Melina's for years. It never disappoints. Great food, lovely seasonal choices, fabulous outdoor dining and really nice wine list. Also, a terrific happy hour! The staff is always so friendly and accommodating. I took a girl friend for a birthday lunch, just recently and they treated her like a queen! So very nice! Can't say enough nice things about this family owned restaurant.

Great Happy Hour and delicious food

By Karen D |

I've been to dinner here once and Happy Hour on several occasions. Food is delicious and you can't beat their HH prices. There isn't a lot of table seating in the bar but they have stools at the bar and then on a long table bar as well. Easy parking in the garage underneath the building. I've had the absolute best service ever in the bar. I think her name might be Tracy. She is attentive, not overbearing, has friendly conversation with all her tables and is right on top of it when you need something. My favorite dish is the bar Rigatoni al sugo di carne, however, everything is delicious. I also went there after work one day in the summer with about 6 co-workers. Since they didn't have seating in the bar for my group they graciously let us have a table close to the bar and still enjoy the happy hour pricing. Fantastic place, give it a try.

Happy Hour

By 100QA |

Our new favorite happy hour. The restaurant is on the pricier side for a neighborhood Italian spot. It has an upscale modern feel. Staff is nice and the food quality is very good. Happy Hour let’s you sample great dishes at a bargain price.

Fun Lunch With Friends

By Wendy K |

Had lunch here with some lady friends. Good menu choices, four of us went with the two course lunch option. Not huge portions but enough to eat. Gnocchi a bit heavy. Pasta with Prawns, steelhead and Margherita pizza were all well received, as were the beet salad and Caesar salad. One woman got octopus salad as a regular lunch entree and did not like it. Good wine by the glass selection. Very good service even though the place was packed.

Happy Hour Heaven!

By bothellgirl |

You know you have found a most perfect Happy Hour when the bar food menu is extensive and reads like a menu in the dining room!! Easily 15-20 options inclusive of pizza's. All food during HH was half off. Large bowl of rigatoni with a very meaty bolognese was $8, smallish Caesar salad was $4.25. Two glasses of HH Sangiovese $9. Mixed ages in the bar enjoying themselves...... seems like a fun neighborhood joint! Cool ceiling art and feels fresh and updated. I will be back for sure.

Good Italian

By Azzi E |

Decent and popular Italian restaurant, can be quite hard to get in. I recommend a reservation. Good selection of wines and probably authentic Italian food. Good service as well.

Happy hour to die fir

By RKWsea |

Mamma Melina's is a NE Seattle favorite. Just across 25th from UVillage. Great food, charming atmosphere, fun wait staff, and...a happy hour to die for. Upbeat and thoroughly enjoyable. Reasonable prices and great drink menu. With all the great restaurants in Seattle, MM makes the grade without high prices, haughty atmosphere or odd menu choices. Try it ...

Very laid back atmosphere, but also fancy flair.

By VB4EVA |

We had a nice dinner with family that lives nearby. We ordered the bruschette, and the tomatoes were so juicy! We also had the lasagnette and the Pesce alla griglia both very tasty!

A little pricey

By Val |

We spent about $40/person. The atmosphere is congenial, only because of the table settings and nicely dressed wait staff. The food was delicious but not extraordinarily so. I do highly recommend the blood orange drinks!! The table of college girls next to us was a little rambunctious which detracted from the atmosphere.

Good Food, Great Service

By bamajewels |

We joined friends here for a Friday evening meal recently. While our food was very good (we tried bolognase, gnocchi, meatballs, and lasagnette) what made this place stand out for us was the service. While they were moderately busy, we still were cared for by multiple staff, as they almost anticipated our needs before we did! What a pleasure! The acoustics in this spot make it fairly loud. They clearly know this as you can see they've attempted, in lovely ways, to create sound absorbers. Still, it's not a place for quiet conversation. The outdoor patio was HUGE, but as the evening was chilly, we chose to eat indoors. We'll be back!

Happening Place near UW

By tghiemstra |

Mamma Melina...excellent for it's Happy Hour and also for groups. Even if no tables are available, the wait is worth it.

Yum!

By Anna J |

The food is delicious and the atmosphere is calm and romantic. We came on a Tuesday evening after the normal dinner rush which, I'm sure, lent to that atmosphere. The gnocchi was perfectly cooked (we opted for a rose sauce with that) as was the bucatini (delicious meatballs as well). The service was prompt and friendly. Would recommend and come again.

Great neighborhood restuarant

By unobtanium |

Based on recommendations from locals, we tried mamma's for dinner. We made reservations early in the day and when we arrived we were promptly seated. Service was fast and efficient. We were fortunate that we were in Seattle for restaurant week, and Mamma's was one of the restaurants offering 3 course meal for $32. Excellent deal. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was warm, just a tad on the noisy side.

Good Italian, Great Service

By mmpaull |

Seattle has some of the highest grocery prices in the nation, and restaurant prices reflect that too. What we sorely lack is good Italian at a reasonable price. Our Italian restaurants either serve overdone pasta and processed food, or have good food at fairly high prices. Mamma Melinda's strike a good balance, great food, affordable compared to other higher - end Italian restaurants. And on our last visit, the service was impeccable. Our apps, salads, pizzas and pasta and other mains were done right. Well worth a visit. Free parking in the building around the corner too!

Wonderful dinner in private area

By Vickimsea |

My family a party of 13 had dinner for my mom's 90th birthday in a semi private room. We ordered the $50 preset meal and wine they recommended. The meal was wonderful. The atmosphere and service were great too. My nephew is a chef and he was impressed with the quality of the food. I can't wait to go back to Mamma Melinas again. Thank you for making my mom's 90th birthday so enjoyable.

Real Italian Done Well

By Michael V |

We are very fortunate to have Mamma Melina as our neighborhood Italian restaurant. Open, spacious with a lively bar scene and a great south facing patio for summer dining. The wait staff is sharp and attentive. Their antipasti, pastas, mains and pizzas are typically excellent and generously portioned. The wine list, which leans heavily Italian for obvious reasons is fairly extensive and offers good choices in both wines and price points. We usually arrive either early or late to straddle the dinner rush around 7. A carafe of water and focaccia and oil and balsamic arrive shortly after we are seated. I have done numerous business lunches here as well, and the lunch specials are varied and always well prepared. Such a pleasure to have Mamma Melina nearby.

Good food

By Prissa |

Went with husband and another couple for happy hour....a very popular place for happy hour so the restaurant accommodates overflow nicely. The food is good...we shared an antipasti plate with grilled veggies and meats and a pizza,,,we chose one from the regular menu, a truffle, mushroom pizza that was rich and delightful. After a mixup upon our arrival, host Aaron made sure that the customers were satisfied with food and service, a good asset for the restaurant.

Exceeds Expectations

By Virginia T |

We were very impressed with the quality of the cuisine and attentive, well-informed service. The beverages, appetizers, entrees, and deserts were reasonably priced and truly delicious. The environment and atmosphere were well above average. Dining tables were positioned spaciously apart allowing for more privacy than most establishments allow. Ceiling track curtains provide separation for large parties. A well planned space with the diners' optimal experience was obviously made a priority. Highly recommended.

Good food/ service but other challenges

By JoRSeattle |

I recently visited with a two others, food was very good. Server excellent. Bit on pricy side...Biggest problem were the major amount of fruit flies while trying to eat swarming/ landing in food/ bev's. Womans bath was a mess, no towels or TP, mentioned to two different servers in 45 min time frame, both ignored while maybe 1/3 full in restaurant. As a fellow hospitality worker, dirty bath/ usually dirty kitchen! Was a place I liked to visit, but will rethink in future. Wasn't impressed, but a bug bomb!

Cool Atmospher

By 12thumper34 |

Went here for dinner. We shared a pizza. The pizza was excellent! It had great flavor. The server was very nice, and quick. The owner was very nice and gave us free dessert to end our evening. Will recommend this place for sure.

Best Delivery Service

By Doug S |

My husband had surgery at the University of Washington Hospital. After long days we did not feel like going out to dinner. Mamma Melina Ristorante delivered delicious, hot Italian dishes where we were staying. We will definitely try the restaurant out sometime too. I didn’t give them a five star only because to include the extra meatballs we ordered.

Good Italian food

By Anika K |

The restaurant is nice and close to the University of Washington. I just wish it had lived up to it's hype for the main course. For my appetizer I ordered the Burrata con speck which was DELICIOUS!! Who doesn't like Mozzarella, Prosciutto and poached pears. For my main course I got the Ravioli con porcini e formaggi. I was expecting the ravioli to be hot and it was warm. I was also hoping the sauce would have more flavor. For dessert I got the tiramisu which was good. For drinks I got the house red wine which was good. The bread was delicious. My friend got a pizza and bruschetta which she liked and I don't remember the dessert but it was also tasty.

Mama Would Be Proud

By GDG |

I'm not sure if there is a real "Mama Melina " or if its just a clever name for a restaurant - if so - Mama would be proud ! Of everything this place does - The atmosphere, food and especially the people - all first class . I've had the pleasure of dining here more than a few times on my visits to UW to see my daughter, there is really something for everyone and the staff here and food never disappoints. If you want something casual but nice they have great appetizers - small plates like bruschetta and expertly cooked thin and crispy pizza - yum! - a title fancier ? try any of the house specials that day, fresh sea food dishes or the home made pasta's - seriously good food and good size portions too .They feature a variety of local and regional wines by glass and a decent craft beer selection as well - The attentive , friendly and knowledgeable people here are warm and welcoming - when we couldn't decide between 2 lovely desserts our waitress sympathetic to our dilemma brought us both! with1 on the house ! . FYI some dishes and the specials may get a little pricey ( try their late night happy hour ) but overall all very affordable and an enjoyable experience for all !

Delicious food, Amazing service

By JMS |

This was our second visit. First visit we had reservations/table service. Food was delicious, hot and more than enough in size. This visit we sat at the bar for happy hour. Although menu is limited for bar service the selections/variety are more than adequate. Bartender Meghan and Jackie were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Service was outstanding despite being extremely busy. Food - meatballs, roasted broccoli/peppers, puttanesca, pizza and pasta bolognese. Speciality drinks are offered. Will definitely return next time we are in Seattle!!

Some portions are too small! Ask about what you will receive!

By travelerNorthwest |

I went with a party of 6 and one of us ordered a ravioli entree. Out came 6 little flat ravioli (nothing else) for this entree. These ravioli were not enough to feed a squirrel! I think some dishes need a little amplification with vegetables and this dish certainly needed help!. Come on, please put food above profits!

Had a great time excellent good great waiters and waitress's will go back if we are this way again expensive but really enjoyed this restaurant.

Excelent Italian cuisine

Eight of us had a wonderful dinner here, with three-generations of an Italian family sitting next to us. Everything was fabulous, and the olive oil cake is divine.

Post game dinner in the bar

By WA_traveller57 |

We sat in the bar after a Husky football game. Nice environment. ordered pizza, wine and salad. Perfect and tasty. service was quick and efficient considering the crowd. I would come back again for table service.

Great menu, wine list, and staff

By Divot_Digger |

If you are staying near U Village or the University be sure to check this place out. It was a favorite of mine while living in Seattle, and i was pleased to find it's still doing a great job on my return. Traditional and more adventurous Italian cuisine is what the have to offer. Seafood is a specialty that you shouldn't miss. The wine list is good and well-priced. If you visit during the warmer (drier) months the restaurant has outdoor seating just north of the Burke-Gilman trail. Definitely worth a visit.

Good food

Really good pizza would highly recommend for a date. Nice setting and environment everything was good.

Great food, great service

By ejc2003 |

We came to this restaurant while in Seattle for the Children’s Hospital. The server made sure our meal came out really quickly, so we could get back to our children, but the food was still very tasty! Would definitely return to this restaurant.

Great place to savour Italian Food

By Poonam S |

I visited the restaurant based on the reviews that I read online and I am glad I did. It's a wonderful place to hand out with friends and family. The food is delicious and they offer great choices in drinks and deserts too! It a good place to celebrate any special occasions. It is recommended to do an early reservation if visiting over weekend.

Nice place to take your UW student

By Oram555 |

A really nice spot. Not too fancy, but definitely on the nicer side. Good wine and cocktail menus. Our server was knowledgable and helpful. (nice tip for the blueberry vodka lemonade!) Food was very good. Students at one table, parents at the other. Socially distanced tables. Mixture of pizza and pastas were ordered. The antipasto tray was tasty as well. Will definitely return when we visit our student!

Really Good

By gabriellap |

This restaurant has very good food, exceptional service and is not overpriced. They have an extensive wine list that has many Italian as well as local wines. The quality of the food is excellent and I would deiffinately recommend it....the only draw back is the parking which is on the street.

Heavenly Happy Hour

By Rumples |

We were running really late on a Friday afternoon and missed the lunch hours at this Italian restaurant. Instead, we were given the choice of a menu for dinner or Happy Hour (3-6 p.m.). One brief glance at the Happy Hour offerings and that menu remained in my hand. What a deal! The listing had at least 20 possibilities off the main menu, including three pizzas (Margaretta, Marinara and Corydon) at half-price. I ordered Spaghetti all' Ortolano ($7.50) and my husband chose Rigatoni Bolognese ($8.50). We both received huge portions. Mine was filled with homemade pasta, grape tomatoes, pine nuts, goat cheese and wild arugula. It was equal to or better than anything I ate on a recent trip to Italy. His was on the same level with excellent pasta and a wonderful sauce made with beef and veal. I washed my meal down with a refreshing glass of white wine, at a half-price cost of $4.50. Happy Hour participants are required to sit in the bar area and we chose a long, high table with stools. When we had almost finished eating, three others joined us at the table. Additional seating consists of bar stools and small tables with chairs. The bar is open to the main dining area and has an elegant feel to it rather than a sports bar atmosphere, which is so prevalent today. All staff were friendly and efficient. We were greeted warmly, presented with dining options, and seated immediately. Our server came quickly, happily answered questions and made recommendations. She stayed attentive throughout our stay but was never intrusive. The parking garage next door offers up to three hours free parking when dining at Mamma Melina. There is an entrance to the restaurant from the garage. It takes about two or three minutes to drive here from the University Village shopping center, depending on traffic.

Awesome

By 40yoStudent |

Walked in off the street into this very busy restaurant. Short wait for a table, great service, friendly staff. Nice atmosphere, good wine list, great italian food. We had somd of the best and friendliest service I have ever had. Starters were very tasty (carpaccio and prosciutto), mains were good sized and well prepared (Sirloin and Osso Bucco) - very tasty, fall of the bone tender. It was so good, I went back a second time later that night with a group of friends (this time for drink only while they are - and had the same great experience). Well done, keep up the good work. Well worth a visit, treat yourself!

Awesome Italian in the U. District

By Jeff and Jill |

We took our UW son for dinner on Sunday night. What we thought would be a nice pizza place turned into an amazing Italian journey. Easily made a reservation on their website, and good thing because it was pretty crowded for a Sunday night. Quickly seated. Nice wine list and some fun cocktails. Saw a most interesting menu, far more interesting options than we expected. Selecting the meal turned out to be pretty difficult and we ended sharing a pizza as an appetizer because we were so interested in the entrees. I had a fettuccine bolognese, my son had the duck/mushroom risotto and my wife had gnocchi. All were excellent, though the gnocchi was not quite as light as I had hoped. The olive cake dessert was also really really good. We can't wait to get back.

Outstanding

We’ve eaten here three times recently. Meals were excellent each time. All apps, salads, and main courses were delicious. The restaurant is very accommodating for vegans. We will be back!

Best Happy Hour in Seattle!

By Jeff S |

Mamma Melina has an excellent Happy Hour with several half price entrées and drink specials. The hours change daily but they are generous. Nice atmosphere, good food and service. Free parking is available close by.

exciting menu

By perplexed97123 |

Wonderful choice for the University district. A great menu with lots of choices. Would go back for more.

Solid option

By A_four_A |

Pretty smooth service, nice-looking room (albeit a bit loud), broad and interesting menu, and good execution in the kitchen. More interesting than the website would indicate, but nothing cutting edge. Well-healed crowd. Good choice for a low-stress meal in a pleasant setting.

Wonderful food and great service

By MonicaRaggioKelly |

We had such a wonderful meal during our visit to Seattle that we returned on our last night so we could enjoy another fabulous selection of dishes. Staff were helpful and charming and helped the evening go smoothly for 3 different generations of one family.

Devine dining

By nickanath |

We enjoyed two evening meals here, both were devine. Food and wine were superb. The service is friendly and attentive. There is also a large outdoor patio and a nice bar.

Great happy hour

By vamsally |

It is quite crowded, but has parking. The main menu seems litle pricy, but the happy hour has great food options.

Excellent food & service

By TheBigTrain |

While visiting the area, we ordered our teens a pizza from Mamma Melina's while my husband and I attended a business dinner. They were so impressed that they asked that we return for dinner, which we did. The food was outstanding, and the service was impeccable. We will definitely be back!

Great meal and service in LA-like vibe...

By RMSseattle |

Had a late dinner with three other couples on a busy Saturday night. Excellent food and service! The waitstaff didn't rush us at all even though we were the last diners there near closing time. Feel-good vibe, where you'd feel comfortable dressed up or down. Have been numerous times and it never disappoints.

Excellent Italian Eatery

By Richard J |

Ate here since it was late and it was across the street from our hotel. Lucky us! We told our efficient server that we planned to share both the Beet Salad with Goat Cheese and Walnuts and the Caesar Salad with Anchovies. He thoughtfully had the kitchen split them both before serving them to us. Our pizza selection was a Calzone converted into a pizza that was just delicious. Service very attentive and helpful. Food excellent. Easy to recommend Mamma Melina.

Great Saturday night dinner out

By 392beverlyr |

The staff were very accommodating, friendly, and helpful with suggestions of what to order. My PomPom cocktail was superb. For appetizers, we had olive miste - marinated olives with baguette and a wonderful butter lettuce salad with goat cheese. My friend said her pizza bianca was one of the best she's ever had. I had delicious fettucine that was the ultimate comfort food! The dessert we split was the crowning glory - A pistachio olive oil cake that was moist and melted in our mouths.

Very Good Italian Restaurant

Wonderful happy hour celebration of a Husky win! Great Margherita & pepponi pizza, delicious calamari, seafood mac and cheese and great drinks.

Great food and service

By mfrs |

We were staying across the street and were looking for lunch after arriving. The restaurant has a nice patio and the main dining room is open and inviting. White table cloths on all the tables. Staff was quick and receptive. They offer a price fix lunch specialty menu as well as their regular menu. Our party had a wood fire pizza, pasta with clams and a gnocchi dish. It was all excellent. Although we didn’t take advantage of it the also had a nice wine and drink menu.

Good reliable Italian food

By Michael K |

A neighborhood location, but worth the trip if you're near U Village. Our waitress was outstanding, very knowledgeable and engaging with just the right amount of attentiveness. We had lamb chops, saltumbuca, and ravioli and no one was disappointed. A definite return!!

A favorite Italian Restaurant

By jlmsBellevue |

We love Mamma's! We have returned many times for many different family and friends visits. Many Italian staples, well prepared. Some rotating menu items and many staples. If it is on the menu, it is good!

Excellent food and service

By Carol H |

Went to Mamma Melina's two years ago, so I had to write a new review for my latest visit. They have excellent food. My waiter knew what is gluten free. I had the green salad, steelhead dinner and gelato for dessert. The gelato had sea salt and olive oil on it. Try it, you'll like it. I left my little to-go box on the table and as I drove out of the garage my waiter was standing there with my box. Now that's service! It looks so busy that you think it must take a lot of time to get through the dining experience. We were in and out in an hour. The only drawback is the noise level, but the experience is well worth it.

Very Good Food

By teacher34 |

There were eight of us here to celebrate two birthdays. It was a happening place on a Saturday early evening. I liked that they had outdoor seating as Seattle has had an excellent summer. Our server was a very personable young lady. She was very attentive to the group. The wine, the appetizers (assorted cheeses) were very good. My husband and I had cannelloni, others had lamb shank (which was huge and looked like a Tomahawk steak), and scampi. We were all pleased with our meal. Very tasty. Also liked the decor in this restaurant. Will visit again.

Great Italian food and environment near U Village.

By Kris Winkler |

I'm a frequent regular, so I have nothing but good things to say about Mammas. Good service, good food, and awesome happy hours. Tracy is always so welcoming whenever I walk in and attentive. I'd list some of my favorite meals, but there are just so many. Good for groups and families as well as just couples.

Mama Mia !!!

By Dianne R |

Excellent Italian restaurant with great food and service with nice atmosphere . This was a last minute choice on a Sunday night for Italian food and I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere . It was very bright with many windows and great bar area. There is also a nice outside seating area but unfortunately it was not open. My first time here and I will return.

Great food and service

By Ab907 |

Everything was great, the waitress was really nice and gave us lots of suggestions on what to order. We had a salad for one of the appetizers and it was one of the best salads I've had. The truffle pizza, gnocchi, and the drinks were also amazing. The chocolate lava cake topped it all off.

Better than it was 10 years ago on our last visit

By overthehill79 |

When planning to dine with a fellow board member who lives in Seattle, we chose Mama Melinas to have dinner with her. We arrived early and sat in the bar with a crowd of folks enjoying Happy Hour. We ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio each and an appetizer. The service was quick and the noise level average. About the time of our reservation we moved to a table by a window, our friend arriving minutes later. Anne was our wait person who we found very friendly and attentive during our dinner. We all ordered their Special Salmon ($29) which was prepared medium well to our liking (we don't care for raw or uncooked Salmon). We were not rushed and enjoyed our conversation feeling no pressure to leave. The food was wonderful, the service exceptional. We will return.

Wonderful meal

By bonsainouka |

Excellent food. Wonderful accommodating hostess, the experience started there. Lovely outdoor seating.Antonio provided great recommendations ... The cannelloni was excellent. Aaron was a very gracious host. We'll definitely return.

Good but not flexible

By Kristy S |

I've been to Mamma Melina's 3 times now. First dinner was fabulous - a salmon special. Perfectly cooked, portions just right, excellent service. On the 2nd visit I had a salad and calamari and both were just okay. The calamari was warm and soft - like it had been sitting for a bit too long before they served it. The salad was good but not excellent for the price. Monday night I went over to see if I could get their kobe burger from their bar menu to go. Nope - no bar food to go. Okay - can I sit in the dining room (at 5 pm and it was empty) vs squeezing into the only open seat at the bar and order from the bar menu? Nope - gotta sit in the bar. Well, I was dining alone and there was not any available space that looked comfortable to me, so I opted to leave. The funny thing is the same young man who was telling me "nope & nope" on Monday had put my personal info in his VIP book on my first visit so that I could be accommodated at a later date. What I thought was a special designation turned out to be of no benefit to me when I really needed a little flexibility. I'm slowing losing my desire of what I thought was a gem of a restaurant They've slipped from Very Good to Average at this point.

Outstanding

By gsprunner |

We had a great dinner on the patio, duck risotto, ravioli, salmon linguini were all terrific. We will be back next time we visit campus, highly recommended.

My favorite Restuarant for italian!

By drewsusa |

Don't know how to start. There Smoked Salmon pasta is something I can't get enough of. I often sneak there for lunch alone. With with such a incredible atmosphere seems a waste, but I need my fix. My girlfriends and I always pick this as our place to meet. European feeling and great service! Maybe I'll be all alone and see you

Nice atmospere and good food

By Lori M |

We live in Seattle and were in the University District area and decided to go to Mamma Melina's for dinner on a Wednesday night. We made last-minute reservations for 5:45pm and the restaurant was pretty empty outside of the bar. The dinning area is a large, open space and everyone was very friendly when we arrived. The service was very good and their menu had plenty of options available as did their wine menu. The seafood pasta was a bit salty and didn't contain much seafood. The other two dishes were much better. We enjoyed the evening and when we left the restaurant was full. Couples, families and large groups of people dinning. Appears to be a nice local spot.

Heather was an amazing server.

By Aaron D |

Heather was an amazing server. She gave many recommendations and sold us on more food than we had planned on eating. We had a lot of questions and she was able to answer them all. Food was very tasty, and price was fair for the location.

A cut above

By KarynF109 |

There is no shortage of Italian restaurants so to stand out it is necessary to be outstanding in some way : creative cooking with a fresh twist, a deep knowledge of how to get the best from the best and simplest ingredients. This restaurant does both things so beautifully. Halibut is not the easiest fish to cook properly and theirs was mouth watetibglt light, moist and absolutely perfect. Served with a risotto that was neither too creamy nor too distracting. Orange olive oil was magnificent. I don't know if their pistachio ice cream is home made but it was one of the best I have had. Bravissimo. Worth coming out of downtown Seattle for.

Amazing Italian food

By Marijke R |

Not your classic American pizza, but the real deal. These pizzas have a thin crust and taste like they're straight from Italy. Also the waiters are super friendly. Besides pizzas they have many other Italian dishes. Very large assortment of wines. Will be back soon!

Very nice atmosphere, quality food, and class.

By Carol V |

We had a wonderful lunch. The atmosphere was very calming, the food wonderful and accompanied with appropriate music. This place is a class act: white table clothes and worth the stop.

Pizza in Seattle

By JCDown |

We both had beet salad which were excellent The pizzas were very big and we could have easily shared one between us Decor was interesting and atmosphere lively I took this photo of the art on the ceiling!

Good phone but horribly noisy

By Elliott C |

My wife and I recently went to this restaurant. When we walked in the first thing we noticed was the almost deafening noise level. This was a Monday evening no less. The establishment crams in too many tables, which doesn't help the noise level. As for the good, some dishes were very good, other merely good, but nothing was truly exception except for the squash puree/soup. It was outstanding. We shared to an order of mussels as well as starters. Then has a risotto as well as a swordfish entrée, both good. Finally, we split two desserts, one very good and the other almost terrible. While we liked the food overall, we will never come back for dinner due to the noise level, which is sad, but will perhaps for lunch. This place would never be appropriate for a romantic evening.

Joyful Eats!

By Blondedawg |

Family lunch turned into a great experience with our terrific server. Beet salad and Pasta Bolognese were just excellent. Everyone else had great food too. The outside patio and open seating areas are lively but you can still hear yourself talk to your guests. There is a two course lunch special that is very reasonable with lots of choices too.

From traditional to fancy , always happy and never disappointed

By Jose G L |

Anytime I visit with my son in Seattle we treat ourselves in this restaurant . As usual a Friday night, it was packed . We had a reservation and were taken immediately to our table . The focaccia and olive oil with balsamic is always good . For appetizer my son ordered burrata with prosciutto and pear that was excellent. I ordered a lentil soup with Italian sausage that was very good and was a special . For entree my son had a risotto with wild boar sausage , that he loves. I ordered fettuccini with bolognese sauce , that was perfectly executed and is a comfort food dish . I had tried the lasagna before and is equally delicious . I have consistently eaten better here than is some places in Little Italy in NYC. Will return for more in future trips to Seattle .

After the husky game great stop.

By Macdaddie |

Stop for the happy hour, good drinks, good service and very good food. The macaroni and cheese with shrimp is excellent and the pizza is also very good.

Mouth watering halibut

By Wanda |

We had yummy cocktails and delicious halibut dinner here. Bruschetta and calamari were below average. Very good server. Busy and noisy on a Sat. night.

Fantastic Seattle Happy Hour Food

By drodrigz |

My wife and I visiting from San Diego, and her sister visiting from Australia, took my daughter and her boyfriend to Mama Melina this afternoon and had the best Happy Hour food ever in Seattle !!! Mama Melina has 17 items, including 3 pizzas for Happy Hour - one of the largest selections I've seen. Everything we had was sooo delicious. And all the dishes are their full size dishes, not the smaller sizes you often see at Happy Hour. Happy Hour drink specials were good also. I tried the Blood Orange Martini - yummy. The others enjoyed the selection of beer and wine. This is a fantastic place to enjoy with family, friends and coworkers. It is a bright, modern atmosphere with a very friendly vibe. Don't forget to check out the paintings on the ceiling.

Tasty food, great outdoor table, weak service

By pine129 |

My first visit but my family has been and normally loves this place. This visit did not meet our hopes. Food and drinks were delicious. We loved the outdoor table and ambiance. Sadly the server was new to this restaurant and should not have been on their own yet. Knowledge of menu was just ok, and good comments offered. But our special requests were overlooked and so were our drink refills. We planned for after dinner drinks and dessert but being overlooked repeatedly by our server caused us to cut it short. We all have Foodservice/ hospitality backgrounds and while sympathetic, the service just did not work. The people who invited me were embarrassed by the outcome. But to close, food was great and service looked better for other tables.

Neighborhood class

A long establishment in the area, Mama Molina is known for solid Italian favorites. Whether it is a steak salad or incredible meatballs with spaghetti, or pizza, it will be very good and unfailingly fresh. Easy free garage parking. Outdoor seating in good weather.

Best neighborhood happy hour

By connie h |

We stumbled in and it was an unexpected delight. We booked an Airbnb nearby and walked over for dinner. Happy hour is very popular but they make room in the dining room if possible. We ordered four items to share. Left full. Meatballs, calamari, Cesar salad and pizza. Added some peroni's and with great service had a wonderful and very delicious meal. Think we might be back tonight.

What a gem!

By Veronica S |

This was exactly what I needed after a long day at the hospital with my son. The ossobuco w/polenta was wonderful. Their pear tart paired perfectly with the 20 year tawny port. And even more important than the food....the service was exceptional. Thanks so much, I will be back.

Good, not great

By Haygoodm |

The food was good, not great, and somewhat pricey. My wife ordered gnocchi, and they melted mozzarella over the top which neither of us had ever seen before. The standard is usually a nice Parmesan cheese. Nothing great.

Excellent Food & Service!!!

Been here a few times, and it's always impeccable. Plus, they have great Happy Hour specials! Best Restaurant in U-Village!

The menu is great, the food does not live up to it

By Micheline G |

We were there on a warm August evening and enjoyed their extensive patio! The bruscheta was disappointing, the rose was warm (and it was served after our appeteizers arrived). The food was okay overall, not great. Definitely not a top italian restaurant.

Great Italian Food

Love this place. Came for Happy Hour in 2014 and ended up having dinner there a few nights later. Had dinner again on our last visit and it was delicious. The staff was pleasant and very attentive. Would highly recommend.

Great Neighborhood Italian Restaurant near the University of Washinton

By LATraveler71 |

A very good local restaurant with an active bar scene and solid Italian dishes. The portions are huge and most are easily suitable for sharing. The Chef's antipasto plate was a meal in itself--well presented and a very nice assortment of tastes. Pricing is reasonable for the caliber of the food. Very good wine list.

Excellent quality and service!

Staying in a hotel nearby for a family wedding. Stopped in for lunch and had an excellent pizza , calzone and Caprese salad. Very fresh ingredients, excellent, low key service, very nice decor. Good place, would go again!

Delicious lunch

By Alice F |

Last week I thoroughly enjoyed a girl friend's lunch at Mamma Melina's near University Village in Seattle. I would describe it as classic Italian with a twist. Everything was house made including the pasta. My friend had grilled prawns but I went straight to the pasta with an exquisite Bolognese sauce. Side salads were delicious as was the olive oil cake and chocolate cake with a raspberry coulis. The cocktail menu was extensive, too. There is a lunch special menu where one can order either a dessert or small plate with an entree for $16.50; I will try that next time!

A very good Italian restaurant!

By FromPortlandOregon |

A very good Italian restaurant! A great menu, and portion sizes. The quality and service are both very good. There were four of us for lunch and we tried a number of dishes. All were excellent. The waiter was very friendly,as well as efficient. I like it when the waiters keep my table picked up without asking. Great restaurant and good location. BTW - they have a free parking lot too!

Our 33rd wedding anniversary

By Mauro1990 |

What an excellent Italian restaurant near Washington University. Reservations should be made because this restaurant is full all the time and the wait could be substantial. There is some seating outside but not as much. Sean was our server and to say the least our cousin Angelina worked here a few years ago and she was well accepted by the manager and staff. Our meals were cooked to perfection.-Pollo ai carciofi, calamari alla plancia, and scaloppine di maiale. We also had the desert-Cuore di cioccolata. Thank you to your team for making this evening a very special one for us.

Very enjoyable!

By Brian0ntheGo |

This upscale Italian restaurant provided us with a great evening from beginning to end. We began the meal with the Burrata con speck appetizer...it was really great! I ordered the Lasagnette and ate every bite. It was also excellent! Everyone in our group enjoyed their entree choice, and we all had something different. The service was attentive and professional. I will choose Mamma Melina again on my next visit to Seattle!

Good Italian near the University

Elegant atmosphere offering a wide variety of Italian fare including wood fire pizzas along with a nice wine list. Serving sizes not too big which I like. Shrimp scampi is very tasty.

Excellent happy hour

By Merilyn M |

My girlfriend and I decided to celebrate our birthdays with a happy hour excursion to Mamma Melina's. Sunday evening. We discovered that the entire day is happy hour. We each ordered the house wine. They were both great. One white, like a pinot grigio. The red was a blend. Very balanced. We shared a pizza and an eggplant parmigiana order. Well prepared, tasty, and plenty of food for dinner. We topped it off with a tiramisu dessert.

Lovely crab salad and truffle/mushroom pizza

By seattlefoodlover2016 |

We had a lovely light dinner at Mamma Melina's and loved their salad, pizza and wine. Excellent service by the waitstaff and calm, quiet booth location. This was our second visit and it equaled the first. There is also ample parking in an area where on street parking is at a premium.

Big open restaurant with private side rooms

By David R |

This wasn't cheap but the food was excellent and the service was attentive. There were interesting choices so everyone was happy. The wine selections were -- again not cheap -- but excellent. We had no room for dessert. It's a large open restaurant in a nondescript commercial building, but we noticed that there are private areas if you were having a party, that might be nice.

High quality!!

By yaser z |

Very impressed. Not only with the great food but also with the willingness to accommodate a large group. They had a great happy hour discount, the service was amazing, the speed and readiness of the main dishes was incredible and the price was extremely affordable. X Definitely a place we'll visit again. A+ Recommendations : Spaghetti Ortolanno Rigatoni Bolognesa

Great Italian Food - Good Service

By SeattleBuster |

Not much to say really except the food, gnocchi, ravioli, salmon linguine, tortino and the chocolate cake were all great. Service was timely and not overbearing. If I had anything to complain about is that it was a bit noisy when we arrived near the end of what most likely was their happy hour.

Excellent service, variable food, noisy ambiance

By jml66 |

The ambiance is not your typical cozy romantic Italian: it is louder and darker, almost an industrial restaurant feel. It's also tightly crowded with tables close to each other. The service is really excellent. There are a *lot* of wait staff, and our server was very attentive the entire evening. When one dish was over-spiced, she immediately volunteered to get me a new one, without my insisting. The replacement was cooked perfectly. The cooking is hit and miss. Some dishes (the gorgonzola polenta) were excellent, while another (the lamb shank) was not very flavorful, and almost glutinous. One pasta dish had noodles clumped together, which indicates inattention by the cook. A pizza was very good. They have a decent cocktail and wine list. For the price, I did expect better food, and a more charming ambiance.

Good food, unpleasant employee at bar

By 110theresad |

We were visiting for medical appointments, & this seemed to be the only option nearby for a sit-down dinner. Food was good, had to access menu with smart phone.... This is quite a stretch, considering not everyone has a smart phone. (No doubt due to Covid...) We were treated well, service was pretty quick. However, we returned the next day (still in the area for medical appts.) to order a take-out item for disabled daughter at the hotel, & a dessert item for me and husband to share. The hostess asked a girl at the bar about the few dessert items, and as she answered the question, she looked us over up-and-down with such disdain as if we shouldn't even take a minute of her time. I believe her name (girl at the bar) was Sarah. On our next medical visit for disabled daughter, I don't think we will opt to eat here. We'll search for somewhere else if the hotel restaurant is still closed.

Outstanding dinner

Mamma Melina's was absolutely the best part of our Valentine's Day. Our waitress and the young lady tending our table were so gracious and the X-Tini drink was perhaps the best drink I have ever had. Pricey but just sumptuous! A great place for a special celebration.

Great spot in the University district!

Homemade pasta at reasonable prices, reasonably priced wines and good service! What’s not to like? Great date place.

Great food at a good price; nice setting and helpful staff- free electric car charging

By seattlefoodlover2016 |

I enjoyed lunch with a friend at Mamma Melina's today and loved their 2 courses for $16.50 choices. The food was excellent as was the staff. One nice surprise, the building that houses parking for Mamma Melina's provides free electric car charing while dining there. Nice bonus for electric car owners.

If you are looking for a restaurant with excellent food, casual elegance, and a staff that makes you feel like you are not only welcome but are there to make sure that your time there will be something special, Mama Melina's is your place!

Table cloths with concrete floor?

By BBBBTravel |

I love table cloths but the floor was too industrial style to use them, I believe. Also some booths without? It looked messed up to me. Also we felt forgotten after the dishes were removed. But the dish was delicious.

Good food, fun place to visit friends

By seattlefoodlover2016 |

I loved the beet salad and the salmon. It is nice to be able to find healthy, low calorie food as well as fun food. Great place for friends to meet and talk. Love the free parking, as it is in an area where parking is scarce.

Perfect for Lunch

By Rumples |

We arrived for lunch at this lovely Italian restaurant just northwest of the University Village mall around 2 p.m. on a Sunday and almost had the place to ourselves. Thus, we scored one of the few booths in the large main dining room. An open door to the huge dining patio with myriad umbrellas brought in a light breeze and we couldn't have been happier with our location on the rather warm day. The hostess gave us menus as soon as we sat down and we were delighted to read an extensive lunch menu -- one of the best values I've seen in Seattle. For $16, diners had a choice of an appetizer and an entree or an entree and a dessert. I chose a beet salad with caramelized walnuts and goat cheese and grilled Copper River salmon, after I was told they were out of my first choice for an entree -- Pacific rock fish. My husband couldn't resist the tomatoes with mozzarella to start, followed by a grilled pounded chicken breast in a light cream sauce with baby greens. Everything proved to be nicely presented and superb in taste. The mozzarella was so good that I took far more than my usual small sample from my husband's plate. Our pleasant, upbeat waitress could not have provided better service. She happily answered our questions, checked on us regularly and ensured that we received our dishes and bill in a timely manner. I really like the decor here. It features rich woods and tables cloaked in white. The main part of the dining room has the popular high industrial ceiling with big pipes. One end of the room, however, has a standard ceiling and is divided into two sections that can be closed off with curtains for private functions. The mirrored wall there gives a feeling of even more spaciousness and chandeliers provide a touch of elegance. It had been years since we'd dined here; and we left wondering what took us so long to return.

Top rate Italian in the University district

By Paul B |

So I've eaten here twice in the last year and I'll go back every time I'm in Seattle. If you're staying locally, I don't think this place can be beaten. Just across the road from the Silver Cloud Inn, University. Busy, great food, good service. Probably not the spot for a romantic dinner, it's everything an Italian restaurant should be. Thanks Mamma Melina!

Good Italian place

By dpaufler |

Mama Melina's is a nice cozy place that could also be good for a business dinner. The menu is authentic Italian with many dishes I recognized from my travels. Beware the Pasta Fajoli, while great it is a larger portion than I anticipated, I could have skipped the second course. They have four beers on tap that are not listed on the menu, just ask.

Very good!

We have been here a few times while living in Seattle. Always attentive service and solid food. We always enjoy their pasta dishes!

LOVE THIS PLACE

I have been coming here for almost 20 years. The food and service is excellent. Amazing Happy Hour as well.

Great Happy Hour Options

By Hystericalhappiness |

I met a friend for happy hour and lucked into a 2-top table at 6:30 on a Thursday night. Check the web site for the days and times for the happy hour which varies. We split a bottle of sparking rose for $24 which was very good and dry. I enjoyed the Carpaccio $6.50 but wish the arugula wasn't dried out. The house made spicy three cheese ravioli was O.K. for $7.50 but would try something different next time. My friend enjoyed her caesar for $4.25 and tried something new with the polenta dish which was hard to decipher. If someone is hard of hearing, I would skip this place during rush hour since it was deafening with concrete floors. The server was very attentive. If you're in the area check it out!

Entrees are expensive and at best mediocre

By Foodie |

This is one of those worn out neighborhood restaurant that thrives on nostalgia and not cuisine or service. Service was attentive but poor in training and amateur, e.g. waiter attempted to pour wine in an empty water glass. The starter of “Calamari fritti” was fine but unimpressive, the “Linguine con salmone e polpa di granchio” was nice but excessive in pasta to protein, the “Lasagnette” was terrible it had both a strong odor and taste (what little there was) of nutmeg – we sent it back to the kitchen the sous chef agreed that it was not properly prepared (one entree down), the Spaghetti with Lobster find but the pasta was underdone and industrial (heavy). These entrees are expensive and at best mediocre. There are so many good restaurants in Seattle eat somewhere else, virtually anywhere else.

Great Italian Eats!

This restaurant is right across the street from the Silver Cloud Hotel and near the University of Washington campus and Medical Center. The service was excellent and the food was great. A bit pricey but worth it. The bread was warm and tasty with an olive oil dipping sauce. The salad (tomato and fresh mozzarella) was outstanding. The entrees were very good - veal and a pasta dish.
