Believe the hype!

By Pawpaw's Travels |

Mannie's was recommended by some friends recently so we decided to give it a try. We visited on a Saturday evening about 6:30. It was busy but not packed and we were seated right away. I was pleased with the prices, very reasonable!! My bride ordered the jumbo fried shrimp. I went for the whole fried flounder, no flour. Both ours were accompanied by the shrimp fried rice to go a bit lighter. Both entrees were excellent and the rice very good. My flounder could have been cooked about 30 seconds less but it was still delicious. After about three bites of flounder with the fork I picked the rest with my hands. Really enjoyed every bite. I drank Modelo draft and my bride a margarita. We wanted a sweet bite to finish so we ordered the cheesecake for $2. Four drinks, two entrees, and the ice box pie for $40 but you can definitely eat for less. We'll be back to Mannie's!!

I love this place

This is a great seafood restraurant if you like fried foods, the shimp fried rice is outstanding. I try to stop here for lunch when I fly into Hobby or during my trips for business to Houston. Good for at very reasonable prices.

Wow

By Joe M |

Ok. Who'd a thought? A lil' Chinese Mexican and a whole lot of food. Man-o-man! 1 lb of grilled shrimp with rice and jalapeño poppers and calamari. I'm stuffed, I'm happy and Marco has a cute smile. Just sayin. Super friendly service and great family atmosphere. Lots of locals and that makes this visitor happy.

Authentic and quality, great for the family

By Aaron T |

We stopped into Mannie's because it was the only place that we drove by going to our hotel. It was a very pleasant surprise. From the outside it looks like nothing special, almost didn't go in because it looked a bit run down. Once we got inside the atmosphere was great; conversations in every corner and soccer fans cheering (not too loudly) in the corner by the big screen. The smell of fresh fish and spices was reminiscent of little beach restaurants in Florida. The service was timely and friendly. The food was fantastic, I'll judge future ceviche orders against the medley of varieties we ordered and loved.

Great seafood and service

By George C |

The soups are fabulous, the seafood excellently prepare, terrific service and reasonable prices - what could be better than a visit to Manny's. Worth the trip!

Avoid like the plague

By Vivian L |

Place was dirty, music loud. Smelled like very old fish. We left immediately and looked for something else.

Reasonably priced seafood restaurant

By robertmbb |

The seafood is fresh and abundant. You can even pick out your own selection as it swims by. The fried shrimp and sea bass was delicious. There are many selections to choose. The service was fast and helpful and we hope to visit next time we are in Houston.

Reasonably priced food and good margaritas

By Grandgator |

Good selection of fish dinners and service was fast and friendly. Frozen margaritas were great and fairly priced. Shrimp fried rice was very good. All items reasonably priced. Good for lunch.

Great food low prices

By janicefrogtravel |

Fresh seafood with a Mexican twist. We have eaten here the last two times we were in Houston. Can't believe how low the prices are for seafood. Happy hour drinks are a good value as well

Appearance doesn't match the excellent food or service

By Mike W |

Visually, this place was not very impressive on first impressions. Luckily this didn't put us off. The food was great - mexican style seafood. Great preparation, good portions, and great prices. It was also fun to people watch. Lots of families and teenagers on dates with everyone having a good time. Definitely worth a repeat trip!

I liked this place. ..good service

By Shaji Johm |

This place is different. Fusion of Chinese, Mexican and southern seafood. You get fried rice and battered deep fried seafood. I got seafood platter. It was good. Nice bunch of guys and a gal. Very friendly and helpful crew.

Wonderful surprise!!

By jwbdcb |

We got to our hotel and asked at the front desk about a good seafood restaurant? They didn't necessarily recommend this but said definitely not to the other we were asking about, so we tried it. It is only one of about a handful of times in my life that I have said I would have paid so much more for that meal! The Super Seafood platter for $11.95 and had 11 seafood items and two sides. The shrimp fried rice as a side was amazing. My wife said she would love to get that as a meal sometime. Will definitely go back to this restaurant!

Great prices and food

Every time I'm in Houston I try and go to Mannies! I love their Food and the prices are even better! I love the shrimp fried rice and anything in their garlic butter sauce

Mannie’s Seafood Houston TX

By STEVEN D |

This place is not fancy dining but their seafood excellent! They prepare their seafood to a fried crisp and golden brown texture with no greasily residue. Highly recommend their Seafood Plate 1: two pieces sea bass, six shrimp, shrimp fried rice, and roll. Good alternate is their Seafood Plate 3: two pieces sea bass, shrimp fried rice, and roll. For two people, meal with soft drinks, tax, tip less than $17.00. We also had an added treat during dinner; two roving musicians serenaded the restaurant while we ate. Don’t forget to tip the musicians!!

Great Fresh Fish

By lucygarza |

This was a scketchy looking place from the outside but the environment as soon as you walk in the door was Great. Very Welcoming!

A surprise treat!

By catcramer |

We had never been here before and didn't know what to expect, but we loved it! Crowded and bustling, we soon found out why -- the food is unique and delicious! Inexpensive and great wait staff. We loved Mannie's!

Better than I first thought it would be

By dreamingman60 |

While in the area we wanted seafood that wasn't chain restaurant. We found this place and wanted to give it a try. The first seats we sat at was right in front of a tv that was blaring Spanish-language programming, we moved to another table next to 2 Spanish speaking men who talked very loudly; soon they left and we were able to order and eat in relative quiet. The food was very goid, and the portions were very generous. Service was less than stellar, but not terrible.

Work Trip

I have ate here before and it was great. I got what I ordered but my wife did not. They were busy so we didn't wait to have it re-done.

Good as always

By Shortknocer |

I dropped my wife off at Hobby Airport and decided to see if Mannie;s was still a good choice for a seafood dinner, I used to go by there quite a bit when I was traveling out of Hobby but had not been there in quite some time, Now I should tell you that I like what I describe as "joints", places where there is a good bet there is grease on the vent hood, and Mannie's is a qualifier. The place looked just like I remembered it and the shrimp (I got it cooked in garlic and butter instead of fried) was good. I thought the salad could have been better and they put French dressing on it without asking me what I wanted, But, I was quite happy with my choice and will return if I'm back in the area at lunch or dinner time,

Best food ever!!!

By Catalina Q |

We arrived late just short of 10pm, was still seen. The atmosphere is awesome, there's a lot of choices to choose from. They do have a bar open, so there's drinks to choose from. The waitress was very nice, food was warm and fills you up easily. The rice is chinese so it's a good combo.

Sea Bass is a must

By Sgrplm06 |

This was such a wonderful surprise. Seated quickly. Prices are so affordable that we were surprised. The Sea Bass is a must if you want some fried fish and at $1.95/filet I suggest 5/6 pcs and some fries. Will be back.

Near Hobby Airport, Great Food at a Great Price

By Bullseye1200 |

We wanted to eat supper near the airport and found Mannie's. The fried rice was great as were other choices. It's a family friendly place and the menu prices are reasonable.

Last minute dinner grab

By Rob Lippman |

Arrived about five minutes before closing. This neighborhood gets rough after dark. Security Guard let the Gringo in. Ordered up some hush puppies and a dozen fried shrimp. The food came fast and was a good value for the money. Shrimp were flavorful and good sized. The fried rice portion was generous. People working there were polite and kind. If back in the area, would return.

World famous Mannie’s is top notch

By Luke |

Whole fried tilapia is served correctly. Crispy, head-on and the gills are cut out. A few slices on the skin would add texture so I’ll ask for that next time. We ordered several dishes because we kept seeing great stuff coming outside of the kitchen. If it’s packed just wait a minute and get your seat. Please quit inviting Guy Fieri here. This is world famous and it doesn’t need more business. I like to eat here vs stand in line. Ring me up if you’re headed there and I’ll meet you if I can. If not, just order up something and think of me and my review that brought you there. Best of travels, Me

low rent place serving very basics--- fish & fries.......no atmosphere , old, space is just not appealing or clean looking...... paying for what you get, which is minimal

Not bad for the price

By Michele B |

We went for fried fish/shrimp and fries. We went during their happy hour and it was under 40 bucks for a family of 5 and was pretty good. Hot and fresh. Like other reviews read what you are ordering or you may get something you did not bargain for.

I love this place

By Plucas1234 |

Whenever I was in Houston on business, and had the opportunity I would stop at Mannie's for either lunch or dinner. I love their fried seafood, and their seafood fried rice is fantastic. The prices are very reasonable and the service is very friendly and efficient. if your looking for a quick, low cost, but tasty meal, try this place.

Great Shrimp Fried Rice

By Plucas1234 |

I love this place for it's fried sea food and very reasonable prices. The food is always consistent and I love their shrimp fried rice. You can have a lunch there for under 10 bucks, not a bad deal in Houston.

Order carefully!

By TruckMomShellie |

We went to eat here at the recommendation of our hotel... I think they must be getting a kick back from the restaurant! Ask questions about what you are ordering! My husband ended up with deep fried fish and prawns with greasy rice in the side. Ugh! Horrible! I had grilled prawns that were fine, although they were served on a plate swimming in melted "butter" and garlic. Overall I would NOT go back and do not suggest eating there unless you have no other options.

This place was a major wow for me.

By TheBlum |

If you are looking for linen table cloth dining this is definitely not your place. However, if you are looking for a no-frills exquisitely prepared seafood in a local family restaurant this place is a must!!! As I approached the front door the aromas emanating from the place told me this was a good restaurant. It is a seafood and it has many traditional Mexican dishes on the rather large offerings on the menu. My only complaint to the waitress was there were too many good things on the menu. My first choice was a fried whole flounder. This place is also a seafood market. When I asked about the flounder I was told to go to the front, pick the one I wanted, they would weigh it and cook it in the style I wanted. When I got there the flounders were much too large so I opted for red snapper. The first major wow was how they served beer. I ordered a Modelo Negra (black) and they brought it with a mug that had lime juice in the bottom already and the rim of the mug was salted. The fish came with a side of fried rice and I don’t have enough words to describe how perfectly it was cooked and how great it tasted. It was served with three different dipping sauces. Need a napkin? There was a paper towel holder on the table and you helped yourself. I realize this is not a place for everyone. However, if you are looking for a great meal at a ridiculously low price compared to what I have been paying for meals on this business trip so far. I will be back there for another meal before I return to CA.

Awesome seafood

By Michael T |

This place is an awesome find 5 minutes from Houston hobby and my go to spot when I land not fancy very reasonably priced awesome seafood. My go to is the shrimp cocktail and fish on fire I can't seem to order anything else. Don't let the place scare you kind of a whole in the wall but always packs with locals never have to wait for a seat though. Really you have to try this place for the freshness taste and value wish we had one of these in Detroit!!! Btw not everything is fried my fish on fire is beautifully baked

What am I missing?

By lisabZ59945SQ |

I took my sister here after checking the reviews and was really disappointed in the selection and food. The service was excellent and very friendly but the food was a huge disappointment, which is why I go out to eat! We ordered the seafood platter and combo platter and neither was acceptable. The shrimp fried rice was okay but the shrimp, catfish and teeny-tiny oysters were deplorable at best: no flavor at all. The salad? Chopped lettuce with the cheapest Ranch dressing I've ever tasted. The tarter sauce was watered down dressing with a little chopped pickle. We didn't even bother to take the uneaten portions home-- why would anyone want to eat this stuff twice? I've never given a restaurant a bad review but the prices here are cheap for a reason: the quality is cheap, too. I must have missed something here because of the good reviews but what was it? I was really embarrased to have taken my out-of-town visitor here. Sorry!

Good Seafood, Reasonably Priced

By Bosk_123 |

Good seafood, very reasonable pricing. Suburb service. A very good place to stop, just off I45, for a good seafood meal without spending a fortune.

So so.......

By cooker72 |

I always check T A for restaurants in the area we are going to be in.....this time we were a bit disappointed! The reviews on this restaurant were good, so we decided to try it.... Our fried fish was good, the shrimp mediocre, the oysters not too good, but the shrimp fried rice was great! Rolls were just thrown on the plate cold! Our waitress was very sweet and very attentive ,

Calling Guy Fieri

By Jonnyjetprop |

This is a real deal, local working class fish restaurant. The ceviche tostada had a generous amount of large pieces of fish. The lunch special #1 was a big plate of food for 7 bucks including iced tea. The lunch gumbo, while missing big meat, wasn't short of flavor. The atmosphere is definitely blue collar, working class folks. Even though I came for a late lunch, the place was half full of local folks. It's in a less than stellar neighborhood.

Great seafood place

By Rick S |

Great seafood, excellent service with a smile, low prices and a really good happy hour. Highly recommend. Don't forget to try the shrimp cocktail. Awesome.

Amazing Seafood!!

By Joe Dunn |

Very laid back and friendly!! Food was really good. The talapia chips were unbelievably good!! Best thing I had. Serving are huge, come with an appetite!!

Casual dining

By Charlotte S |

It was a very casual spot, great waitress, a popular place for seafood on Good Friday, decent food

This new location is on Jones Road in Jersey Village, Texas

By Sunraindancer |

Poor Service. Waitress got confused on orders. Order came with a piece of fish that was not ordered with the Shrimp. The bill came with an odd amount different from the menu.

Gross, just gross

By SuperwonderPam |

One of the nastiest places I've ever eaten. Pre-fab frozen crap. If there were a zero or less, it would deserve it.

Great happy hour and service

By Tejano281 |

Great seafood selection, fresh catch pick your fish prepared to order. Great happy hour specials. Love the custom made tarter sauce, the shrimp coastal is okay peel and eat shrimp are great. Beer on tap. Oysters on the half she'll on deck!

Like a popular neighborhood breakfast place, at night!

By Mahoney-OKC |

A Hobby airport hotel ran a courtesy van to local restaurants, and I picked this one on Ash Wednesday. I must have arrived right after mass, as the place was packed with church going families. Very busy, lot's of friendly conversation, and lots of Mexican fish dishes. Prices were excellent, $8.95 to 14.95 for entrees, good quality mix of fried and grilled dishes. Lots of different soups and gumbos. I had shrimp gumbo, fish delgado and tea, $21.00. They had some family style dishes that came out at other tables that really could feed a hungry family!! Service is like a breakfast place, catch their eye, raise your glass, and you get a quick response; but if you don't look up, don't expect a waitress to be hovering over you.

Less than I Expected

By HENRYBLAIR |

This place looked good from the reviews. Do not believe it! The ceviche was passable though far more ketchup and pico than fish. We started with a dozen oysters. Ha! I ate a couple modest sized ones, they were bad, and sent the plate back, noting that the ones that were left were about the size of the nail on my litle finger. They deductedthe *.95 from the bill. Soup "mariscos" - decent broth, bits of fish were fine, everything else in the bowl was atrocious. Rubber band squid, bad mussels, awful bait shrimp, etc. Finally, a red snapper "a la plancha"! First of all, not a red snapper. way over cooked, and way way overpriced at $15.95 for the tiny what ever it was.

GREAT food & service

By Ira G |

Shrimp perfectly grilled, tilapia seasoned very well, yummy sauce on hubby's shrimp dish...would definitely visit again! Prices very reasonable

Our experience at Mannie's Seafood restaurant.........

By Larry W |

My wife and I visited Mannie's while on our way to San Antonio, Texas. We found the food very good, and the service excellent. We would certainly visit Mannie's once again with a return visit to Houston.

First time

By Mercedes6623 |

We stayed, for the first time, at the Marriott South close to Houston Hobby. This is a lovely hotel with a great lobby, great breakfast & soothing waterfall. When we asked about a restaurant in the area. The lovely young lady who checked us in gave us a list of restaurants in the area. Better yet, their shuttle driver will take you to a number of restaurants that are very close; the remaining restaurants are a short drive away. After asking a few questions, she told us that Mannie's is a restaurant that everyone has reviewed very well. On the weekends, Mannie does not take reservations. It was a Friday evening & it was very busy. We did wait a while. A very kind gentleman offered me his seat. Such a wonderful thing to do! The shuttle driver takes us & asks us to call him when we get the bill. After looking at the menu, we asked for two draft beers. We both ordered Modelo Especial. Nice & cold! They only have 3 beers on tap.The restaurant also serves Mexican Coke (love it!) as well as different "aguas," fruit drinks popular in Mexico, such as Horchata (made from rice) & a few popular Mexican sodas. My husband ordered pescado a la plancha & shrimp with shrimp fried rice. He loved the rice! The fillet was good but the shrimp were overcooked. I started with the fish caldo (soup) which was delicious! My husband liked it as well. It has a very nice broth with chunks of fish, celery, chunks of carrots and a little cilantro. I might order the large caldo next time. You can order this with different kinds of fish, shrimp or a mixture of different fish. The highlight of the meal was the ceviche tostada! It is simply some of the best ceviche that I have ever had! They also serve the ceviche in a tall glass, which is very typical. They have Vuelve a la Vida (literally, Come back to Life) a wonderful, spicy, tomatoey seafood combination served in a beer schooner. I tried the pulpo (octopus) ceviche. It had a smokey flavor but was not at all tender. The preparation did not seem to be the same. Next time, more ceviche!

Not Your Normal Seafood Restaurant

By FlyFish84 |

This is a Mexican Seafood Restaurant. Mostly fried seafood, and fried rice options on the menu. Food was good, but when I look for seafood, I don't think fried normally fits the bill. Price was reasonable was the main reason we chose this over the other options available. If you are from inland and want good seafood try another one of the many available..

A Mexican Seafood Place

By Carl W |

This is the first time I have seen a Mexican Seafood place, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We even had a Mexican Mariachi band playing when we were eating...a little loud, but enjoyable. Food was great and low cost. Specials for under $10.00 with drink. Don't let the low price alarm you. We saw some expensive cars out front, and if it was not good food, they would not be there.

Slow, Loud, and Hectic

By Marissa C |

We got to the restaurant and it was packed. I know that's not their fault, but the slow service was. It was really crowded, and the table was still dirty when we sat down. We had no attention from the waitress whatsoever, except to order our drinks and our food. The food was good, but I'll never go there when it's busy ever again. The time wasted wasn't worth it.

Tipical Mexican Ostionería!!!

By mexicanbadger |

Totally agree with the fact that is excellent for the price. Got confused with the fact that they serve Chinese fried rice with mexican food though, ceviche was very good as well as the shrimp cocktail I suggest to ask for it plain and condiments / pico de gallo on the side. Fried food fresh and good but I would go for their tostadas soups or cocktails instead. Overall great experience and will be back for more!

Great Experience

By Jill J |

I am echoing what has been said. The building was a bit run down and the bars and gates around the restaurant were a bit daunting. We got there around 5:30pm on a Friday, after having it been recommended by our hotel. We waited for about 20 minutes. The wait and meal was accented by the boisterous Hispanic community, and loud music. Had a very festive feel! Most of the choices were fried food. We got the shrimp, fish, crab cakes, and shrimp fried rice. None of the fried foods were greasy. All was delicious, but the fish was the best I've ever had. The restaurant has a fresh seafood section and it shows in the food.

Good food. Reasonably priced.

By marty d |

The food was better than the service. We had to wait awhile for our food. The waitress didn't speak much English so we had a bit of miscommunications at times. I would probably go back again for the food.

Decent no frills

By Angela B |

Good oysters. Served with ketchup so that was strange. Good seafood soup in chicken broth. Lots of seafood a little bland but a shot of hot sauce and a squeeze of lime liven it up.

Bad on so many levels

By Susan M |

This review is for the new location of Mannie's Seafood on Jones Road and Hwy 290. It used to be Snapper Jack's. We started off with drinks. You can get free refills on unsweetened tea but each glass of sweet tea costs you $2 because it's "hand made". What does that even mean? I ordered the 3 pc fish with fried rice and salad. They only had 2 dressings to choose from for the salad. Really??? My plate came with french fries instead of rice. She offered to change it but I was starving and didn't want to wait another 10 minutes to have my order corrected. If you want salt or pepper, you have to go looking around the restaurant for it. It's not on the tables. I cut my first piece of fish and found grease pooled in the bottom of my plate. There was so much grease, it was running into my salad. My husband got the fried shrimp and said it tasted old. There must have been sugar in the tartar sauce because it tasted sweet. Who wants sweet tartar sauce? Tartar sauce, ketchup and dressing came in tiny little cups the size of a teaspoon. Just say NO to Mannie's Seafood on Jones. My husband rated it a 1 only because his Diet Coke was cold.

A great find on my way back to Hobby Airport. Good food, friendly service.

By Paul S |

As others have mentioned, this is not fine dining. But it is good food none the less. At lunch, the place was packed. This is a fusion of several styles of food, with fried rice as a staple, along with mexican and cajun dishes. In fact the entire restaurant was a fusion of ethnicity, with me being perhaps the only person in the place that spoke english as his first language. I ordered the lunch special, which was 6 fried fantail shrimp and a fried filet. It came with a large portion of salad and fried rice. Tea was included. I also ordered the gumbo. Again very good, not rich in seafood, but for less than $2 very tasty (but very spicy). The fried fish and shrimp was properly cooked, not greasy at all.The entire meal was less than $10 for lunch. Though the place was packed, service was good, tea was refilled. The waitress recommended the grilled salmon on my next visit.

Great Seafood, Great Folks, Great Prices

By Ge0rgiaPil0t |

What a pleasant seafood shop & restaurant. The facility is clean and happy with staff that seems happy to be there and ready to take care of the guests. The food was delicious and the beer nice and cold. The marisco soup was hot and delicious. The fried oysters were very tasty but a little heavily breaded for my preference. The service was prompt and friendly. I will dine there several more times this trip.

Can't be Beat for the Quality and Price

By Bubba'sDad |

My wife and I looked around for a seafood restaurant near the Houston Hobby Airport while staying in that area. Fortunately, we found Mannie's. It is a local, family place for the people of this area of South Houston and mostly Hispanic. Don't let that stop you. For $8.95, the seafood platter had shrimp, fish, oysters, shrimp-fried rice, and a small salad. It was all excellent. I could not eat it all. My wife's order included stuffed crab which was just OK - excess breading. I observed a lot of shrimp cocktail orders - they were very large. Drink options included frozen margaritas, beer, and soft drinks. The restaurant has no website that I could find, so rely on Google Maps to locate it and reviews at Tripadvisor to see if it is right for you. The decor is roadside dinner and not fancy. It is a fun place if you like to adventure off the beaten tourist path. We will go back to Mannie's when in the area again.

Random Stop Leaving Galveston.

By KrisGNBTx |

My girlfriend pointed this restaurant out on the way out of Galveston and I'm glad she did! Very affordable, but best of all, the food is good, I had the seafood platter and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of food it came with. I'll be honest, I was thrown off at the fact that no one spoke English, which just forced me to brush up on my Spanish, lol. Overall, good food, decent service, and super affordable, will definitely stop by next time I'm in the area.

Good food, drab atmosphere

By Whereto2next |

Atmosphere is definitely part of the restaurant experience. Whenever I go out to a restaurant I like the overall atmosphere to feel comfortable and inviting. This restaurant just did not have that. This restaurant did have tasty food. There were four of us and we all enjoyed the quality of our food. We also enjoyed the portion sizes. The $8 shrimp basket, with 15 pieces, will not disappoint. I do recommend Mannies if you are in the area. It is just not a place at which I would care to just hang.

My main man Mannie

By oimbinjamin |

Idk if Mannie is a spanish dude or some Italian grandma, but whoever Mannie is, they're killing the restaurant game. Simple style, modest prices, and kickass portions!

Surprisingly good for the Hobby Airport area

By 551melm |

Excellent family restaurant. Great ambiance. I've never before had the choice of french fries or shrimp fried rice with my fish order. We both chose the rice. I ordered fried shrimp and oysters. My husband got the mussels in an onion sauce. We poured the sauce over both our portions of rice and couldn't believe how good it was.

Good food. Loud restaurant.

By Kent T |

Price was very reasonable. Food was tasty, the noise level was way high. We could not even hear the waitress make suggestions.

A Very Big Surprise!

By daydreamer19 |

We were staying at a nearby hotel, and since we didn't have a car, we needed the hotel shuttle to take us somewhere. We asked at the front desk and Mannie's was recommended. It didn't look too great from the outside and the inside is very plain, but the food was very good. We were there about 6pm and they had Happy Hour specials that are good until 7pm. I had a fried fish platter the included 3 large shrimp, 2 fish fillets, a good amount of green salad, and a large portion of the best shrimp fired rice. this plate was $8.95. They had draft beer for$1.55 each (bud-lite, modelo and reg bud) the service was good and they take credit cards!
