Heading to Michigan for the weekend, we stopped at Manny's on the way. All six of us found something delicious to sustain us on the drive. We know that Chicago politicos often hang out here, but this time Michael Avenatti was on his way in as we left...

I had the corn beef sandwich. It was awesome. A lot of corn beef on rye bread plus a slice of pickle. I only ate half and ate the other half today at home. Haven’t been there in many years. They now have a parking lot in the back and updated the inside so it is very modern. We shall return.

Best Jewish deli on the planet. Fabulous choice of food and sandwiches, all of which are great and enormous.

This is no frills authentic Jewish deli with the best matzo ball soup, corned beef, brisket and pastrami. The portions are generous, especially the sandwiches. It's big and bright and clean. Visit the deli next door, the rugelach is the best!

This was my choice for my birthday lunch. Best corn beef sandwiches around. They pile the corn beef on like there is no tomorrow.

Soup corned beef pastrami potato pancakes as good as katzs or Carnegie deli they also have kreplach, kishkee and knishes. Like them all but can do without the knishes

Three adults and one hungry teenager had a lovely lunch at Manny’s. Lots of choice and friendly staff. Highly recommend the pastrami Reuben and Mac & Cheese. Manny’s has been on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives!

This is just my opinion...but the food was horrible. Persons on my tour bus also commented and it was a general consensus....poor over all.

Literally the biggest sandwich I've ever had. Potato pancake is a must try. Right across the street from the Binny's. If you're nearby you should stop in. All the food looks fantastic.

Catching an early flight back on Lundi Gras I needed to have food in my stomach. While walking down Concourse A at Midway I was attracted by the menu at Manny's Deli. There were a variety of items listed. I chose scrambled eggs, turkey sausage links, wheat toast, coffee and orange juice. All were above average. The bill was less than $ 14. There were other options including McDonald's but I felt very satisfied with my breakfast at Manny's since I knew I would not be offered breakfast on my Southwest flight to New Orleans.

So, the original Manny's Deli is located at 1141 S. Jefferson St. There is also a newer Manny's located in Concourse A at Midway Airport. The reviews listed for this location are actually a mix of reviews for those locations, as there is no Manny's Deli located at 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive (which is McCormick Place). There is no phone number to call, so Google Manny's Deli for the correct location.

Great food joint. Just wish they were open longer on Sundays!! Corned beef sandwich was superb and the selection was excellent

Honestly this is my first visit to a real cafeteria/deli and I couldn't have chosen a better one. We were here on a Friday before any crowd and just loved the atmosphere and customer service. Servers were way more than helpful by describing dishes and making suggestions to the newbies. I had a pastrami Reuben, matzo ball soup and and potato cake. It was ll delicious. On top of everything the facility is immaculately clean. Keep it going.

If you are in the mood for great pastrami corned beef matzoh ball soup or other Jewish delicacies then this is the place great food just pick up a tray wait on line and pick your seat delicious must visit

We walked out from central Chicago to go here. It's quite a walk and totally worth it. I wanted pastrami on rye and my husband wanted the corned beef. The guy cutting the meat asked if we were going to share and I said no then I saw how much meat was being cut and changed the order to half and half, pastrami and corned beef and to share. We added a potato cake, pickle and coffee. There is plenty of seating. The sandwich was delicious, much better than I had imagined. The meat moist and tasty. Best pickle ever, sweet and tart. The coffee, well, why cant we do coffee that good. Very friendly place. It soon started to fill up as the lunch time crowd came in. Go here for a real treat.

Thank you. Hi ago for having a marvelous old style deli. Gino, the hot meat cutter made the most amazing pastrami dish. The potatoe latke like mom made the kugel delicious. The pickles super. Real rye bread. Cole slaw terrific. I have run out of adjectives but I will come back here again

Manny's is a famous Chicago institution that has been around at several south-side locations for decades but somehow we had never been. We decided to visit for a weekday lunch. Arrived around 12:45 and there were scattered tables available. You go thru the cafeteria line, get your food, pay and then go to the table of your choice. I got a bowl of chicken soup with a big kreplach in it plus a 1/2 corned beef sandwich. I wanted tongue but it's not available until Thursdays. I had a choice of bread and the counterman expected me to add a potato pancake but I declined (there was a big stack of them on the steam table that had just come from the kitchen). Two dill pickle slices were added to my plate. My companion had a pastrami sandwich with coleslaw and 1,000 Island dressing on it . Both sandwiches were so piled with meat, they were impossible to get your mouth around and the filling fell out of the bread. It was a better strategy to eat them open-face with a knife and fork. They were good. The corned beef was lean, tho only part of it was warm and, by the time my sandwich was made and I had found a seat, the soup was only lukewarm. The pastrami sandwich was excellent and so was the pickle. My companion went back for a slice of cherry pie, which was not so great. I did better: I bought 1/2 pound of assorted rugelach at the bakery counter to take home. They were very crisp with a sweet, thin fruit filling. Very good. There were quite a few elderly people there on the day of our visit. I observed that the restaurant is handicapped accessible. There is free parking in the lot behind the building but it was full when we arrived. It wasn't hard to find metered street parking nearby.

So many choices, such large portions! The server was very helpful for first time visitors and gave us some samples to help us decide. Loved the pastrami, the kugel, and the kishka.

The bread on 2 of the sandwiches were stale. The ruben was pre toasted and melted cheese, not made fresh and the cheese was cold. The corned beef was maybe warm. Maybe good many years ago but we will not come back.

I’ve been visiting for years and this restaurant has only improved with time! Plenty of seating, friendly staff and servers, bright dining area all add to an enjoyable meal. The food has been consistently great. We brought a friend here from Germany to have him sample our great city’s gastronomic delights….. (besides deep dish pizza and Chicago style hot dogs). We had corned beef sandwiches, potato pancakes, kreplach soup and matzo balls. Everything was delicious and he was blown away by the huge sandwich in taste and size. The rye bread is always fresh and the corned beef thin and warm. The owner even stopped by to greet us…. Our friend was impressed by the whole experience. We definitely will return!

Was so happy with their dinners I had to come back and try their breakfast. I ordered the corn beef hash with eggs and pancakes with a cup of coffee. The service was fast and before I knew it they were bringing my food out. Let me just say the corn beef hash is AMAZING! The pancakes are much better then Mitchell’s down the way and they charge 4x as much for an inferior product. If you are in the area looking for breakfast this is the place to come!!

I have dined here often with an old friend who lives in Chicago, and never miss an opportunity to be here whenever I am in the city. The restaurant is patronized by folks from all walks of life, celebrities, politicians, professionals, laborers, and the clientele is diverse. Every food item is delicious. Manny's cooks and prepares its own corned beef, pastrami, makes its delectable soups, with matzoh balls, noodles, etc. It has recently been remodeled and it has added an area for take-out of all specialties. Everyone can easily find their favorite deli items and the service is fast. The employees are very pleasant and helpful.

I judge Deli on one quality above all, the pastrami. Average New York City quality pastrami simply outclasses Manny's, by large measure. And good NYC? Sorry, they are such different experiences that they are really different foods. It a shame because the atmosphere at Manny's is great, it feels a lot like Katz's in NYC. If only the pastrami were half as flavorful!

Very good pastrami and corned beef. Also had the yummy coleslaw and a too cold potato pancake. Lots of parking available.

After watching food shows about Manny’s I really wanted to try it out. I went for breakfast and ordered the corned beef hash with challah french toast and a coffee. The food did not disappoint. I’ve never had french toast with challah bread before but it was really good. Coffee was hot. It was nice having Valentina hot sauce with my breakfast too. I wish I came here wanting lunch because the pastrami looked next level. Great place to come for food!

What a great place to get a reuben sandwich and navy bean soup. Prices are reasonable for chi-town and a huge variety of sandwich and hot lunch items are available but its the reuben that most come for and its so worth it!!!!!!

Had a half roast beef and side salad and I am stuffed! Nice remodel and pleasant staff! Get ready to roll out the door as you will be satisfied!

If you love Reubens or Corn beef then this is the place. The meet is flavorful and very tender. Also the size of sandwich is large!. If you fly through Midway airport there are several locations in the airport. Now you will have to wait to get a reuben because they take some time to make, but well worth it! sharing your experiences, you're helping travelers make better choices and plan their dream trips. Thank you!

I’m a Chicago native and have been eating at Manny’s for years. Today, the corned beef was dry. The latke was excellent, and the cole slaw was very good. The price was $28.05.

It’s a Cafeteria style place where you point to whatever you want and they’ll portion it, put it on a dish and you out it on your tray. Looks like something from the late 60’s. We were there for lunch in Early August. I believe it was August 4 or 5… I think there is a very small parking lot in-between buildings but we didn’t see it before we fed a metered parking spot right on the main road. We ordered 4 entrees for the four of us, plus a couple of extra dishes so we could all sample stuff. It wasn’t cheap. Four people we paid about $110 for lunch. Roast Beef was about the best thing. But thats not saying much. The Corned Beef and Pastrami are laughable by any NYC or boroughs standards ( even removing Katz from the equation - ANY New York jewish deli is better) the meatloaf is passable. Nothing to write home about and neither is the Matzah soup. I wish I could have said that anything here was worth a fifteen minute drive and paid parking, but it’s just sub-par across the board. I mean, it’s all edible the way my High-School cafeteria’s food was edible. But this cost QUITE a bit more than the lunch money my Mom would send me off to school with. So it’s unacceptable. A lot of room for improvement in that kitchen. A LOT.

We have been coming to Manny's Cafeteria & Delicatessen for many years, and I still am unable to finish one full meal when I'm there. Today was no exception. The staff at the counters was very nice and everyone was efficient. We ordered a corned beef sandwich and a bowl of lentil soup. We also ordered stuffed cabbage with the noodle kugel and for dessert we got a dish of vanilla & chocolate pudding. The kugel was great, my only suggestion is to try not to furn the top edges, but I suspect that is quite the delicate balance. But it is a sweet cheese inside, so it does taste really good. I could not even consider getting through the entire stuffed cabbage, and I actually think that I'll get another two meals out of it. The corned beef sandwich was excellent and there was also more than enough to take home for a couple more sandwiches. The price is a bit higher, but then you can get more than one meal, so I think that is good. As it was a Sunday after Mass, we had no problems parking on the street. They do have a parking lot behind the store, as well as valet parking. The restaurant, including the restrooms, is always clean and well-maintained.

I was excited to visit Manny's on our trip to Chicago. When I walked in I was in awe of all of the delicious looking options, but decided to go with the standard pastrami sandwich and kreplach soup. I couldn't wait to dig in but when I did, I found everything to be cold. The soup was at best tepid and a bit over salted. The pastrami (hot pastrami sandwich) was room temperature and not as good as most. It was tough and stringy. The black and white cookie was just OK. I was expecting much more.

I found it really expensive. Husband loved the food. I think love is a strong word when it comes to this place. It was our first time here and workers were kind of rude (in a pseudo-jokey way)

We stayed overnight in the west loop of Chicago at the Crowne Plaza and were looking for a place to eat brunch. Thankfully, Manny's is now open on Sunday until 3 pm. You can order either breakfast or chose lunch items from the cafeteria line (or both). Plus the Bloody Mary's were $5 (full strength with a terrific meat garnish). My wife, who grew up in Skokie, IL, said eating at Manny's was like re-living her childhood!

Went for lunch and it was terrific. Owner Ken and his son are on -sight to make sure everything is perfect. The cleanest restaurant in Chicago by far. Food terrific highlighted by their homemade corned beef and pastrami. The rye bread was also wonderful. One sandwich can feed a family they are so big. Had bread pudding for desert and really good fresh coffee.

My hometown of San Diego has a lot of things, but real house made pastrami is not part of the menu...all our Jewish delis service generic national produced Dietz & Watson deli meats. So if there's real pastrami in the city I'm visiting, I'll be there. Manny's ambience is time travel machine back to the 1942, when Manny's first opened. Clean, bright, retro, and suitable for a place like this. Service is "Chicago" friendly...smile, try to know what you want in advance, don't be a jerk. Manny's in house made pastrami is AMAZING!!! Juicy, fragrant, flavorful, meaty, with the perfect amount of fatty grizzle for extra flavor. I wasn't too hungry so I opted the "half" sandwich, on their rye bread of course, it's still HUGE!!! $18 comes with a soup or salad, which I got a house salad which my health greatly needed(I later learned that the "Half" sandwich is 9oz of meat, the "full" sandwich is 12oz of meat!) Add a little bit of mustard, and that's a perfect meaty sandwich for me. The full sandwich is $19, no sides...I'll attempt to eat this beast this next time.

This was my first trip to Manny's and it was well worth the price yes it is pricey but you get a lot of food. One sandwich can easily feed two people. I brought home left overs. The sides were delicious I got the beet salad and the mushroom salad. So please try this wonderful place. I will going often. Can't wait to take my grandchildren they are going to love it.

What a wonderful lunch. What a pleasant surprise. The variety of Jewish ethnic food was AMAZING. I had a little of everything I could put on my tray. The restaurant is huge and so are the portions. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There was a line out the door for lunch but it moved very quickly. The food was served hot and fresh. I was in heaven. I have never been to such a large deli in my 64 years of fressing. If you are anyplace close to downtown Chicago then this is the place you must try. They also have a fabulous assortment of cookies, rugalah, cakes and take out lox and beef tongue to name a few. Everyone eating and working there had a smile on their faces.

During a recent trip to Chicago my husband and I wanted an authentic diner experience - and Manny's gave us that in spades. Breakfast was just wonderful - fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, a delicious bagel and the best French toast I've ever tasted. All served with freshly brewed coffee, delicious orange juice and a smile. Thankfully we live in the UK, or else I'd be here every week and the size of a house! What a diner!

Great hot pastrami on rye! There’s a huge menu. You name it that would be in a deli, they have. There’s about a pound of pastrami in every sandwich. Served with half sour pickles, of course. Next time, I’ll just get a half order. But I’ll definitely enjoy my other half for lunch another day. My son got a potato pancake with his sandwich and it wasn’t hot, so he said it was just fair. Naturally, we got Dr. Brown’s soda to go with our sandwiches. So good! Too full for dessert.

Corned beef was mostly fat, over billed for a sandwich ($21) that was a waste of money, even if I spent half that amount

Great food. Great atmosphere. First time visiting & would definitely go back to try more things. Attached to the cafeteria is an ice cream parlor with other treats. A lot of variety & very tasty food. In the picture is the Reuben, spare rib, Mac n cheese, white roll. For dessert was chocolate and sea salt caramel ice cream which were both delicious. The richest & creamiest chocolate I’ve ever tasted.

You must try this at least once. The food is great. The size of the portions is phenomenal. Forget all the snooty, upscale places a few blocks away and try real food cooked from the heart. The corned beef is supposed to be the best in the country but the ox tail stew is my absolute favorite.

A must visit Chicago institution. It's not just the food (which is deli at its best) but the great people who work there and the overall ambience. Make sure you go! (be forewarned: portions are huge!)

EXCELLENT EATS! Famous for their REUBEN but not much will disappoint you here! I had the LIVER & ONIONS, which was delicious; better than Mom's ! Be sure to bring your appetite, the portions are huge; you'll be needing a box to take home what you can not eat! And they have a bakery adjacent!

Manny’s corned beef sandwich is expensive and not worth the price. Two sandwiches and two potato pancakes cost almost $50. The corned beef was cold, dry and flavorless and on plain and dry rye bread. In the past, the sandwich was served with warm and juicy corned beef. The potato pancake was cold, dry and lacked flavor. I guess they’re making so much money that they don’t have to try to please you. It doesn’t seem like they are interested in repeat business!

This cafeteria is a true neighborhood gem, offering a welcoming atmosphere and consistently excellent food and drinks. It's the kind of place where the barista knows your name and your regular order!!!

This is obviously a Jewish cafeteria, located in a business district some 2 miles off of the "Golden mile" in Michigan. In addition to sandwiches which they made while I waited, they also had soups and several other hot and cold dishes. My Turkey club was 4-5 inches tall,3 layers of bread with heaps of turkey, bacon, lettuce and tomato, plus a big pickle on the side. Less than 14 dollars and I was not able to eat it all. It was not the nicest room, but it works as a quick-and-good lunch place.

One isn't going to find anything close to premium Jewish deli like a Katz of New York City or a Langer's, Canter's of Los Angeles. That said, Manny's is one of the best we have in Chicago. I usually get the pastrami at Manny's but this time had the side by side or pastrami on hone have and corned beef on the other. The pastrami was just so-so, the corned beef was much better than I've ever had before at Mannys, tender & full of flavor.

Manny's is definitely a trip back to my younger years. But stick to the corned beef and the like. The latke seems to be famous, but I have never had a battered and deep fried latke before and do not intend to again. The sandwich was classic, and sharable considering the size. The soup with a ball was good but not my Grandmother's; but that would be an impossible goal :).

I have been going to Manny’s for several years and found this to be the worst experience ever! I had there Turkey Meatloaf, Cabbage and Potatoes. The Meatloaf was congealed mush and the Cabbage and Potatoes lacked flavor. While the Corned beef is there staple, the so-called “comfort food” is HORRIBLE!!!

Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning for breakfast. This was my first visit to Manny’s. The server was very nice and informative with a great smile. She helped me to order my food and told me she did not charge me for coffee so the cashier won’t make a mistake and double charge me, very considerate. Food came out fast and was very tasty. I had corned beef hash and eggs with toasted bagel. The hash was excellent with green pepper mixed in. Eggs were prepared to what I liked. Only down side was the bagel was small. But overall a good experience for a first timer. I’m very impressed with how polite the servers were! They were well trained and it reflected the company’s attention to details and how customers were treated. Well done! The food was so good that I actually ordered 2 sandwiches to go and each sandwich can easily be enough for two. The sandwiches were so big that the containers that holds them could be closed. The server jokingly said “ I can take some meat out and they would close!” Good sense of humor, we need more of that! Don’t forget Manny’s has a parking lot for their customers around the back of the building.

Good delicatessen on Chicago's South Side of Downtown. If you are familiar with Katz's in New York City, this is Chicago's version, but not at that level. It has been around for eight decades and has good food. I got there when it wasn't busy, so that might have been an issue. I had the Reuben and it was made of pre-toasted bread that was sitting there, so it wasn't fresh. It would be best to ask for it to be freshly made. The Potato Pancake was pretty bad, as has been mentioned by reviewers. The knish was very good. The sandwich was very good otherwise, just more like a warm sandwich and not a hot, freshly made sandwich like you would prefer. And, the place is expensive. But, this is one of the rare actual deli experiences, unlike the mystery meat world of Subway. I got to chat it up with a server who has been there for 34 years. He had lots of great stories to tell. Food Network has been there at least twice and you can see why this would be a popular place for them to visit.

I get to Manny's about every 10 years and while most memories are better than the actual experience, I think Manny's keeps getting better! The choices along the cafeteria line are extensive. I had a terrific hot pastrami sandwich with a potato pancake and Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray Tonic. I was in food heaven! All the staff are very friendly, too.

For $17.00 bucks for a Corn beef sandwich I expect tender juicy corn beef not dried and tough. The mac and cheese is over cooked. And the soup is cold. Not worth the trip

Manny's was over the top in accommodating our family for our son's rehearsal dinner- so helpful - great planners - incredible food!! An unforgettable evening for us and our guests. We couldn't have been more grateful for the professional yet friendly manner in which the event was executed. Dan is wonderful to work with - the food was SO yummy and so many great choices - Our friends can't stop talking about how happy they were to be there and how much they enjoyed the setting - the matzo ball soup - delicious corned beef sandwiches - potato latkes and so much more that your head would explode (along with your stomach but that's OK). The cafeteria was made 100% available as if open to the public and the staff/servers were A-1. They handled the big stuff and the details, literally, from soup to nuts!! All the choices were excellent - and if anyone left hungry they have issues!! BOOK IT!!

A little expensive but delicious every time without fail. We've visited many times, always tried something new, it's never been disappointing!

World famous for their corned beef but has so much more to offer. Great lunchtime ambiance with people from diverse backgrounds. My wife and I split the corned beef on rye with potato pancakes. We could hardly finish it was so large! Will be back again...

Awesome breakfast. Amazing hot plates: meatloaf, beef stew, brisket, spaghetti with meat, Mac n cheese. Cold and hot deli sandwiches are gigantic! And they come with pickles. The half pastrami half corned beef is out of this world. The turkey sandy is awesome! Soups and chili- the matzo ball soup is fabulous. Tons of options for everyone. Loads of side dishes, cookies, and other treats. Beer and wine offered too.

Excellent pastrami!! It is not the cheapest but well worth the price. Pickles are good. Potato pancakes are not very good.

If you want to eat some of the traditional foods from your childhood, this is the place. Noodle kugel yummy!! Latkes yummy!! Corned beef is great too and you get enough to have a sandwich for later. The staff is always welcoming and attentive. Always a winner!

Be prepared to take home half of your sandwich. Four of us went to Manny's for dinner and each of us took home a doggy bag. To order, you get in a line - like in a cafeteria. Then a worker, behind the counter, gets everything for you that you want to order. You watch him make your sandwich. I ordered a pastrami reuben and my husband had the 4 meat sandwich, chicken soup and potato salad. There had to be over a pound of meat in the sandwiches. Everything was delicious! They also gave us a coupon to get a free cookie or bagel at their other store (next door). My chocolate chip cookie was very good. Thanks Manny's - nice touch.

Use the free parking lot in back Walk in and grab a tray and move down the line to pick out your meal I had a corned beef/ pastrami combo with their great potato pancake and dill pickle. I added cole slaw and mac n cheese. Beer is available as are many other drink choices. This is a Chicago treasure- go

Every elected politician begins and ends their campaign at this local Chicago cafeteria. And no wonder, Manny serves up the heartiest of hearty grub. From soup to stews. The bean and barley is simply sublime and other entrees follow to perfection down the cafeteria line. Unlike the few political parties, Manny's delivers on many lunch and dinner options. Manny's is more than a cafeteria, its an eatery emporium and long standing legend.

I’ve been to many Delis in my time, but I have never been to a “cafeteria style” one so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised! Like a typical old school cafeteria you grab a tray and walk along the line. You will choose from a selection of deli favorites in addition to pre-prepared salads, deserts, etc. I tried the turkey Ruben, matzah ball soup and a few deserts. All were flavorful and well prepared. There also is a really cool bakery/deli/candy/gift shop attached that is fun to visit before or after your meal. The food could have been slightly fresher, even though it tasted great, you could tell some of it had been sitting out for a bit. The parking situation is a bit of a negative, I didn’t realize they did have a lot that you can’t see until you pass the location, so I did “valet” which was basically a dude who watched you car while you left your keys inside. It seemed very sketchy with no tag, no name and no holding of the keys. Plus the guy barely would talk and seemed more interested in his phone. Made me worry a bit about my car the whole time.

Fantastically delicious! We got hot pastrami on rye with pickles and potato latkes. Dr. Brown soda. So unbelievably good!

If you want to have a great lunch near downtown Chicago look no further. I have been coming back to this Deli for nearly 40 years. Incredibly I see some of the same employees I saw when I first entered their doors. And they are still are interesting as ever. The size of their sandwiches have never changed and the service is always great. The corn beef, potato pancakes, soups, and just about anything else you may choose is just great. I look forward to coming back to town to make it to their new deli counter with unbelievable cookies and treats.

The food was delicious and a good value. A great variety of food. It was Cafeteria style so expect some time in line because the place is so popular.

Manny's Cafe is a Chicago classic that every local knows about. It's one of the only authentic Jewish delis left in the city AND President Obama is a patron. He even had them flown out to Washington, D.C. a few times to cater official White House events. It's a no frills cafe where you grab a tray, go down the line, pay at the end, and find an empty table in a large cafeteria. It's quick. It's easy. It's predictable. What's not predictable is how amazing the food is and how good the coffee they brew is. The beef hash comes with a side of toast and is the BEST beef hash I've had. Order an egg over easy on top. The coffee is La Colombe and their drip coffee is excellent. Next time you're in Chicago and want to dine with the locals, head to Manny's!

The food is good. Had the pastrami rueben and corned beef sandwich. The meat had good flavor and moist. The sandwiches are heaping with meat. The potato cakes are ok. My only complaint is the rueben being $17. That’s only for a sandwich and two pickles. This place was probably an affordable neighborhood spot back in the day but now it’s a full blown tourist trap. $17 for a sandwich is a lil crazy.

Loved the food, people, process - all of it. People in line helped us navigate the cafeteria process and helped me with recommendations when i requested them. My daughter had a fantastic salad and the rest of us had corned beef sandwiches with a potato pancake. Bibik, the magician, entertained us with cheesy jokes and impressive card tricks. Great lunch with the family.

Always a great lunch place. I you leave without being stuffed it is your own fault. Great staff with great sense of humor.

We had a great lunch experience, and both the corned beef for me, and my wife had the pastrami were delicious. Both sandwiches were huge and freshly prepared.

The address is 1141 S. Jefferson St, not on Lakeshore Dr, which is what it says on this tripadvisor page. :( The venue is immaculate, as are the bathrooms, and the each staff member is super friendly. I brought a cooler with ice, to save my leftovers. The portion for one meal easily feeds two. I asked them to hold back on the meat, as Dagwood-style sandwiches aren't for me, and it was still very loaded with meat.

As the title says, be prepared for huge portions. We made a bit of a detour here especially...it's not in an area with any tourist attractions but the number 12 bus from near the Field Museum drops off outside the restaurant. It's all self service and we chose the Chazzer and Rueben from the specials menu along with a potato latke each. They were amazing packed with meat and way too much for one person (we did our best!). Unless you want to take leftovers home I would recommend 1 sandwich to share. Can't fault for value or taste; recommend

Everything we ordered was delicious and in HUGE portions. The place is more like a museum with a modern touch than your typical neighbourhood deli. Great food with friendly staff. One of the more unforgettable places in Chicago!

I visited Manny's Deli recently having heard all about about it. I just love this type of place, no nonsense great food. Great atmosphere and loads of space. I can't wait to return.

We stopped based off seeing the place on triple d. Glad we did. I had the Pastrami and it was a lot and delicious!! My wife and kids had bagels and they all enjoyed it. We will definitely be stopping in our next time in town!!

Best matzo ball soup and corned beef sandwiches in Chicago. Add a potato pancake for the full experience. Cafeteria-style dining. Plenty of tables. Nice deli store attached to buy some of your favorite items to-go.

First visit post pandemic. Same choice of great entrees served by friendly staff, large dining area, free parking around back. Pretty pricey for lunch, but this is downtown Chicago. Next time wife and I will share.

Sandwich as very dry. Cost too much for half a sandwich. No atmosphere. Felt like being in a high school lunch room only not as nice. Very disappointed. Definitely won’t be going back.

Okay, so, it's more than a deli! But since the last time we came to Manny's, the food line has been improved, as has the restaurant. We decided to go here for lunch after Mass and found it to be busy, but not crowded. Finding parking quickly, we were at the front checking out the specials. We chose stuffed cabbage with spinach and we also chose the noodle kugel with meatloaf. For the bread, I picked the cornbread with the meatloaf and the rye went with the stuffed cabbage. For dessert, we had an apple slice which had the sweetest frosting ever. I must admit that this was the first time that I have ever had noodle kugel and it tasted great. It looks like lasagna without the red sauce, but it tastes sweet, though just lightly. We were also entertained by Matthew, the magician, who apparently is at Manny's every Sunday during brunch hours. A couple of nice things. The last time that we went, the drinks were obtained at the corner of the food line, now the drinks are self-serve machines along the back wall. On our way out, we checked out the new deli, which you can walk through the corridor past the restrooms. The deli has some really good looking selections in there, prepped to take home. We ended up buying three containers of soup (mushroom barley, as well as sweet & sour cabbage), for the price of two. They also have a selection of baked goods and a variety of candies, including a couple that I haven't seen in years. You can enter and exit the deli directly from Jefferson St., so you can pick up stuff without having to walk through the cafeteria, though why would you do that! It may be a touch more expensive, but the portions are really ample. Neither of us were able to finish our selections, so there will be another big meal at home.

Made the trek to a Chicago institution and was not disappointed. Huge portions and delicious food. Had the 1/2 corned beef and pastrami with chicken broth & noodles; came with a potato pancake and garlic pickles. Food was good and filling. Definitely worth the visit! Service was good as well.

Amazing selection, huge portion, friendly atmosphere. Can't wait to return! This is a typical deli with meat piled high on the bread and plenty of sides to choose from.

We visited this Mecha of sandwich emporiums late one weekend, we may have caught them a few hours before close because they we out of a few things but what they had left was out of this world good. We ordered pastrami on rye with a pickle and potato pancake and a corned beef or rye withe same sides... Plus a slice of cherry pie that was calling my name. There was so much meat on these sandwiches that the ration of bread to meat must have been 90/10 in favour of the meat. We definitely left full and had to get an Uber to drive us home because walking was no longer an option, although we could have used it.

We had an opportunity to visit Chicago for a wedding, so where to eat lunch? After pouring through reviews of hundreds of restaurants, the choice was quite simple.....Manny’s! Taking a short taxi ride from downtown, arriving at Manny’s and seeing the sign outside and the building, i knew this the right choice. Entering the restaurant and looking around, the checkered floor and huge food counter stood out. I had reviewed the menu online 20 times and knew exactly what I wanted, the Chazzer! Piles of corned beef and pastrami topped with coleslaw and a slice of Muenster cheese on fresh rye bread, two deli pickle wedges and when asked if I wanted a potato pancake, my response was.....yes please! The meats were sliced on demand by a completely authentic Chicago man who was super friendly and quite funny. My wife ordered the turkey pastrami sandwich also on rye with pickles and potato pancakes. After paying, there were plenty of tables to choose from. Definitely try the Manny’s mustard that is on each table. Please do yourself a favor and go here! So freaking delicious. Thank you Manny’s.

I've been going and ordering from Manny's for decades. This really is the best deli in Chicago! From the matzo soup to great sandwiches, salads and dinners, you will be getting the tastiest of foods.

The place is very clean and neat. The food is organized in a cafeteria style setting. The only drawback i had was I only was in Chicago only long enough for one meal!! The corned beef sandwich, for which they are famous, was massive!! It took me three settings to finish it!! The corned beef was finely cut and the rye bead was very moist and tasty. The only thing was that i couldn't really taste the corning in the meat- which i feel adds a lot of flavor. The pickles didn't seem to have been pickled long enough because they tasted like cucumbers with a bit of pickling. The pasta salad was very nice. The take-out containers were first class and well made. All in all, i will go back when next I'm in Chicago

This deli is just like the ones seen in Manhattan and Long Island. Totally Authentic and delicious food. Sandwich was huge with meat overflowing out of the fresh rye bread. Very highly Recommended.

Cash or Charge - Manny's may not be quintessential - but it is as far deli fare - it delivers - the portions on those sandwiches and sides are bursting off your tray as is the flavor - hankering for an awesome Reuben or Brisket sandwich - get it mixed and bring a friend - you need one to finish Hope this review helps - have a wonderful

Manny's offers a variety of hot dishes as well as sandwiches and salads. It is well known, for good reason, for their pastrami and corned beef HUGE sandwiches and for their delicious latkes. Service was excellent. Portions were large. Seating area is large. Adjacent parking lot was full when we got there (12:30pm). We parked on the street for a fee.

This place is downtown so it is not cheap. Love the pastrami and the soups. They also have NY pop that is great. It's also a cafeteria so you can go that route if you want. I think most people do the deli end of the business. This is my 2nd time here, and anytime I am downtown I will try to get here.

Kushke noodle dish was new to us, and did not realize it was sweet tasting! Not my favorite, but still fun to try. Great atmosphere! Like the old school cafeteria days. Absolute must stop in Chicago. If I went back I would focus only on the sandwiches, as the meat is amazing.

I was on a bus tour and this was our lunch stop. It did not disappoint! The portions were huge so my mom and I shared a reuben sandwich. This was the best reuben I have ever had. They give you the sauce on the side which is the best way to serve because the sandwich was not soggy at all. It's on the expensive side ($17 for the sandwich incl. tax) but it was so worth it! It is cafeteria style so you walk in the door, grab a tray and utensils and start own the line until you get to what you want and then pay and find a table. If you've never been to this style of eatery the guys behind the counter a super friendly and will help you out with your choices.

I’ve loved Manny’s for years but hadn’t had it in a while. Went here with my boyfriend and had a hot pastrami on rye with pickles and a potato pancake with apple sauce! It was soooo good! The staff were very nice as well! It’s a no frills place but you’re sure to eat well if you go!

Kreplach we're eh. Not much stuffing mostly dough and pretty tastless. Chicken soup was very very salty and I like mine salty Kishkek was meh too. Not much flavor. Corn beef and pastrami were just ok. Too dry and pastrami was tough. Neither spiced enough. And nothing that was hot was…hot. Pickles were weird, more like jarred Vlassic pickles than deli pickles. The best thing I had was a can of Dr. Brown’s Cel-Ray. Very disappointed

Over priced !! and fatty grizzly Corn Beef sandwich the last three times we been there!! This was are Too go to spot for a corn beef sandwich BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

My Chicago cousin took us here as a must eat and see locale. We enjoyed breakfast omelettes here and were amazed at the ample choices that any great deli would offer.

So I’m in Chicago for an insurance meeting and my broker suggests we go where presidents dine. :) Luckily breakfast is great but not nearly as popular as lunch! Very helpful staff. Wonderful French toast, poached eggs, bacon and unlimited coffee. Yes that was just for me...

1st time there. Impressed by variety & quantity. Next time want to try breakfast, the French toast looked amazing.

Everything here is so good. The place is immaculate, even the restrooms. Each staff member is super friendly and helpful, too.

The feel of a New York deli in Chicago. When you enter they have a cafeteria like line to choose your food. It's from here you order specialty items, like sandwiches. I ordered the Four Kinder ($24). It consists of Corned Beef, Pastrami, Brisket, and Turkey on your choice of Bread. I also ordered a Noodle Kugel ($5.50). Which is a casserole similar to bread pudding, but with noodles instead of bread. It's slightly sweet. The sandwich was piled high with a ton of meat and was absolutely delicious. Each of the meats on their own were tender a full of flavor. Together they made a complex taste of wonderful meats. The bread it was on was also top notch. The surprise of the meal though was the Kugel. It was outstanding. I absolutely devoured it. Overall a 5 star review. Would I return? Absolutely. I'd love to try some of the cafeteria items, like the meatloaf or spaghetti.

Manny's Cafeteria and Delicatessen on Chicago's Near South Side is a legend in itself, a storied no-frills restaurant that has been serving classic deli fare in a cafeteria-style setting since 1942. Located at 1141 South Jefferson Street, north of Roosevelt Road, a long punt from Soldier Field, it has variously earned reputations as "Chicago's finest deli" and "Best corned beef in town" and "Next level comfort food." Add one more: "New look, same soul." That refers to Manny's newly renovated space and deli counter. But it's the hot and fresh and tasty food and the swift and friendly service that keeps customers coming back, time and time again. Open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Manny's has a lot to offer when it comes to breakfast, lunch and dinner. I first visited Manny's when I began working for the old Chicago Daily News in 1968. My wife and I have been regulars since we got married in 1976. For breakfast, I had a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins and Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs, Canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce on an English muffin with potatoes and corned beef hash. Sometimes I prefer corned beef hash with two scrambled eggs, sausage links and hash browns. My wife opts for buttermilk pancakes with sausage links and hash brown with a fresh fruit bowl and raisin toast. Lunch usually is meatloaf or baked whitefish or a corned beef sandwich with vegetable soup.

Very good quality of corn beef They have a good rubens and can be made from pastrami, corn beef or turkey The place is high and portions are also big It could be call de Katz deli of Chicago They also have matzo ball soup, kreplach, and cheese blintzes

What a wonderful surprise! A local recommended this place and said it was old school cafeteria and we loved it! Grab a tray, walk the extensive line in this spotless, bright and efficient Deli! The matzo soup (I recommend the mish mash minus rice) was so rich and tasty! The corned beef piled high and the chopped liver was fantastic!! The house mustard on the mile high piled corned beef was hitting all the taste buds in the right place!! I loved that they had Dr. Browns soda and also, each diner got a free cookie or bagel redeemable in their Deli portion attached to the cafeteria! That's a nice touch! We barely could finish half of our sandwiches and we could have easily split one sandwich. The options were endless with knish, potato pancakes, rubens, kreplach, kugel, beef stew, etc. It's in the south loop and there is a free parking lot in back which is another nice bonus! We will be back!

My wife and I were in Chicago and met my sister and brother-in-law for breakfast at Manny's on a Sunday morning. Holy cow! They serve cafeteria style and the food seems to go on forever. We all ordered something different and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I would love to come back for lunch or dinner just to try the Ruben sandwich. There is an attached bakery. My sister told us we need to try something form there. My wife ordered some type of Greek pastries for her office, which they loved. Manny's has been around for a long time. If they keep serving food like this, they will be around for a lot longer, too.

Took a group of 50 there two weekends ago. Made a reservation. Arrived to discover a lack of staff (management's excuse --we got a sandwich order at the same time and that took precedent) thus a long wait (there were exactly two people to help you get food one of whom was also working on the sandwiches). The food itself was mediocre at best. Manny's is living off of its memories. teh corned beef and pastrami were but echoes of what must have been great decades ago. The latkes were huge overweight and ancient. Ditto for the knishes. There are so many places that serve much better food. Oh then management tried to add 20% to our bill for the service we DID NOT receive and gave us lip for the past ten days about our refusal to go along with their attempt to overcharge. In a word: AVOID

Step Back in Time at Manny's, An old fashioned cafeteria that serves great old fashioned comfort foods. Nothing fancy here, just good food in a unique setting.I chose the Corned beef on rye, with a side of a potato pancake, a true old time classic that was delicious! Very reasonable prices for Deli style food. I will definitely return, as I hear their breakfasts are awesome as well. Overall Rating ~ A Blast from the Past/Very Good!

It's not quite NYC pastrami or quite as obscenely large, but it still ticked the right boxes for me. Slightly dry and not nearly as much sauerkraut as I would like. Great, really great, horseradish mustard sauce.

Mannys was amazing. The portions were gigantic; a tremendous amount of delicious food for the money! We had beef stew, and a pastrami sandwich. Absolutely amazing.

Thanks for reading my review, I hope it is helpful to you. Manny’s has been around for decades. Has won many awards, has a gorgeous and inviting retro inside but somehow still missed the mark on our family return visit. Parking: street, valet and parking lot in very back. We had to have our handicap 90 year old family member deal with a half block into an alley pull up to car situation because of parking set up. Seating: tables not booths. Large inside seating great for small parties or large. Spacious. Pricing: medium to high. Felt it was very petty to charge for a tiny cup of apple cause or sour cream for latki/potato pancakes Soups and other foods were very salty missing seasonings. Many items we bought were cold. My potatoes in the potato salad were hard, not cooked all the way. Cashier very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms: clean. Spacious. Handicap friendly. Personally, I go to a lot of these style delis and I was bummed that it was just meh or lacking that special something. I would rather go to The Onion Roll, or other places like Max and Benny’s etc. They have a shop that sells cakes, pastries, deli products, candies, books, and clothes as well. The girl was on her cell phone, saw me and did not offer to help me nor engage with me. Instead of buying the products I wanted I decided to save my money if I was going to be ignored/not appreciated. Was this my first trip here?: No Smoke free?: yes

If you're at Manny's, it's because somebody probably told you to get the corned beef. But the dirty little not-so secret is the pastrami is better. It'll be approximately 4x more food than you need and you won't regret it. Oh, and get the potato pancake too. Then take a nap.

Look it up. Not romantic, not luxury, delicious food... canteeny... quite far out of town. An institution. Scrupulously clean... if you want a Reuben you won’t find a better one. Anywhere.

Visited Manny’s 2023’ I used to live in Chicago and ate there all the time. Went back to Chicago, that was the first place I visited. Overpriced, corn beef, dry, even pastrami was dry but had a little more flavor than the corn beef. I will not be back.

The potato pancake wasn't worth adding to my plate, but the giant Reuben sandwich was really good. Not an attractive building or a great location, but still worth a visit.

Most corn beef sandwich are salty but this one, piled on w/ corn beef and pastrami, was just salty enough to down w/ the cream soda. Service was excellent!

I’ve been visiting Manny’s for more than 50 years. The prices have increased but the pastrami sandwiches haven’t shrunk. The sandwiches continue to be delicious and meaty. The pickle is perfect. The latke is good but doesn’t have enough onion for my taste - a minor quibble. The kugel is wonderfully sweet.

After a long 8 hour drive to the Windy City we decided to make this place our first stop since we were starving. Mannys offers complimentary valet parking which made it convenient for us. This was the first time I ever saw a deli cafeteria style. It is shaped in an L pattern and you have a very long row to check the boards to decide what you want. The menu is extensive including salads, hot entrees, hot and cold sandwiches with large pickle slices. Side portions are generous too. The dessert selection just blew me away! They sell Eli's cheesecake here but it comes wrapped. I decided to have turkey and chopped liver. For $1.50 more I got a nice size potato pancake. My husband went with the turkey club. There is a nice selection of breads so I settled for a challah roll. I looked at the chicken noodle soup. It looked so good but on a hot day I didn't want to overindulge. For dessert I went with strawberries and blueberries. When we paid we were each given a coupon to use in their take out deli off to the left for either one free bagel or a cookie. We found a table and believe me this sandwich was so good and messy because the chopped liver kept falling out. My potato pancake was good too. Only wish I had some applesauce to go with it. My husband enjoyed his sandwich too. Someone comes around to take your tray when you are done. Please note that this is not a Kosher deli but it is Kosher styled. I saw someone at a nearby table and was blown away by the size of his pastrami sandwich! After we ate we went to the take out deli. I was blown away by the selection of lox and fish! Most of the items were the same as we saw in the cafeteria. We used our coupons to get chocolate chip cookies. I was glad they were not overly big because that sandwich was so filling. Needless to say they were fresh and very good. I was also amazed at how empty this place was but it is a bit of a distance to the city center. Expect to pay but I am used to paying high prices in delis and I was glad I had an opportunity to check this place out. A must if you love delis!

Team lunch at Manny's as we were told it was an incredible experience. WOW!! It was. The Beef Stew is incredible, Huge portion and you want to eat every bite. Everyone at the table walked away full and happy. Definitley be back to this one.

I have been going to this ironic Chicago institution for a couple of decades. To my surprise the cafeteria seating area was revamped and brightened up since my last eating experience. No wait greeting me as in l had Some fun discourse with the guys behind the deli counter. I did not have the courage this time of asking for an even larger Matzaball in my Chicken soup. My Matzaball was big enough for Hercules. The guys behind the counter liked my idea of 1/2 sandwich special made of Corned bed and pastrami. They recommended the rye. The sandwich was great and the potato pancake was the best this side of the a beyond the “cheddar curtain” fish fry. The food was heavy and all together satisfying. Manny is a great establishment and I highly recommend it. The people busing tablesxwere efficient and I could tell they liked working there. Next time I go I’ll stop by the bakery/candy counter in the adjacent space. Maybe I’ll try snoring exotic next time at the deli. I wonder if they offer Tounge? For sure I’ll ask for an even larger Matzaball in my soup. In some way this place has the same old school vibe as Billy Goat Tavern or Millers Pub.

Great deli fare but confused by the angry woman who seemed very mad that we were there. We came at about 2 p.m. on a weekday so maybe they were exhausted from the lunch rush. I'm always hesitant to eat somewhere where the cooks are angry but the chicken salad was great and my lox platter was yummy. The check-out attendant was super-nice and the atmosphere was cool. One feels they are taking a trip back in time when they eat here. Fun place!

This is one of the last Jewish deli's still in existence and it's amazing. Over 70 years of history can be seen on the walls and tasted in the food. Of course we had to go because it's also one of Barack Obama's favorite places to eat in Chicago. It's a cafeteria style restaurant with so many choices. It was almost overwhelming because I wanted a little bit of everything in my belly. She got a sandwich that had so much meat it was enough for several sandwiches and it was under $14! I know it sounds like a lot for a sandwich but Jesus it was a lot of meat!

Found a great spot to work over breakfast. Outlets for your computer and the best bagels in the city (properly made like a bagel should be). Nice choices of other things to eat. Would suggest stronger coffee choice, but won’t take away a point for that. Free parking in back.

Really expensive for a pastrami sandwich. Soups (matzah ball and noodles) need to be much hotter in temp. I get that this is a staple, but good lord $60 for one sandwich, soup and a couple of desserts.

We came here for brunch on Sunday. I got a half sandwich-brisket and some noodle kugel. My husband got a Reuben, a knish and a kishke. Doesn’t sound like a ton, right? Wrong. So. Much. Food. And it was so, so good that I had to try a bit of everything...and more than a bit of most. Had my first knish. Life changing. The guys and gals behind the deli line are so friendly and nice that it adds to the experience. This place lives up to the reviews.

We were taken here for lunch and we ordered corner beef sandwich and a coke. The food was amazing and the place is full of character. Been an institution for years in Chicago.

Husband and I just had lunch here. We have good memories of visiting it years ago and remembering it was fantastic. Not any more. Split pea soup was the soup of the day. My goodness, it looked like split pea soup but didn’t taste or smell like pea soup. I don’t know what it tasted like but we each tried a spoonful of it and left the bowl on the table. The taste was not good - can’t even identify it. (The chef should try it and see what he/she thinks of it.) I’m not trying to be sarcastic but Campbell’s split pea soup would have at least tasted like pea soup. (I never eat canned soup any more as an adult either.) We both ordered the stuffed cabbages. While they had loads of meat in them and plenty of cabbage wrapped around them, we found them to be void of taste. Even adding salt, pepper and ketchup they were still quite bland and we agreed I make much better. The mashed potatoes were nothing to write home about. We were very disappointed in the food and will not return because the good ole days are long gone there. Sorry Manny’s.

A Chicago native friend took us here for dinner when we were traveling through Chicago. The gentleman behind the counter was fantastic, giving us samples of everything we were talking about. ALL of it was delicious. The portion sizes were HUGE. We had a blast. Will definitely return next time we are in Chicago. It was a bit pricey, but worth it...

A coworker introduce me to Manny last year and was amazing so we are back here. A legend in Chicago, cafeteria deli style restaurant, very freindly people, the sandwich maker has been around for about 20 years, very freindly and funny. Best corn beef sandwich, great mixed with pastrami. The rest of the food looks delicious hope have the chance to come back and try the beef stew.

Really great place. Stop here on the way to Union Station to catch the train and it was the perfect place to catch your breath before heading to the station. Lots of choices of exotic and huge sandwiches. They weren't cheap, but each sandwiches enough to feed two or three people easily.

Don't bother if you're vegetarian, despite advertising a veggie sandwich I ended up with some lettuce,a slice of tomato,2 slices of cucumber and a sliver of avocado served by a very sulky waiter. I bet they still charged the tour for a "veggie " sandwich. Very disappointed, that waiter was the only rude American we met on our visit to Chicago

It has been two weeks since I was at Manny's, my mouth Still Waters when I remember the robust and delicious flavor of my Reuben. If you leave here hungry, it's your own fault. I couldn't believe my eyes my senses we're overwhelmed especially when I took my first bite. So good!

I went here with a group for lunch after a shopping trip. I had a salad and vegetable soup which was very good. The salad was freshly assembled and the soup was home made. I had iced tea with my soup. I like the decor of the place, real "old" Chicago. I have been to a similar place in New York. This is a real cafeteria as opposed to a restaurant.

Just terrible, not much more to say except you should eat elsewhere, also if you do decide to eat here, make sure you are not overcharged

This is a must do if you love deli sandwiches. Try to come at an off hour because it fills up very quickly at the regular lunch and dinner times.

First time visit and it was fantastic. We stopped on our way out of town and what a way to end our visit to the windy city. We stopped for dinner and were surprised to find it almost empty of customers. But I blame the rainy weather not the food. The food was excellent. You go down a cafeteria line and the choices are endless. The sandwiches, the vegetables, the desserts. I had the split pea soup and it was delicious. The reuben ruled at our table and the meat was piled HIGH. As soon as we finished with a plate or bowl, the staff quickly removed it. The staff was attentive and friendly. We certainly enjoyed our time at Manny's.

I had never been here for breakfast previously and decided to meet a friend here Sunday morning. Great selection-got the eggs, onions and lox. Excellent. Good coffee too. Fairly busy for an early Sunday morning.

We love Manny's and try to visit at least once every time we are in Chicago! Food is great - lots of yummy hot entrees, a great breakfast selection, and traditional Jewish deli favorites! It's a cafeteria style and they deliver made-to-order items, like matzoh brie. Don't miss the chocolate cake that is to die for!

Our son lives near here and loves this place, but I did not really get it. Portions are huge, and corned beef was relatively tasteless. Tried my husbands pastrami, it was much better. Best part of the meal was their horseradish mustard sauce, it was delicious. But would not go out of my way to eat here.

Come hungry! Manny's is AMAZING! Portions are HUGE so my husband and I split the pastrami and it was divine! Got to love their pickles! Don't forget the Matzo Ball soup. Everything was outstanding! Service was so great all around! We were so glad we went. I cant not stress enough that this is a must go to place! I wanted to try everything. They have so much to offer! Once is not enough!

Unbelievable food, value for the buck, and tastes from childhood that will last a lifetime. From the Matza ball soup, to the chicken, to the latkas and Halva!!!!!!!!

I took my family on a short holiday to Chicago. I had heard Manny’s was very good. It was better than good...it was EXCELLENT! Potato knish, chopped liver, pastrami...all better than NYC!

We have been going here for 20 years or so. It's a short drive from home and has never failed to please. Within the last few years they spent a lot of $$$$ on an interior remodel. At the time of our recent visit in late December 2020 Covid protocols eliminated the dine-in option so we chose Curbside Pickup via their website. Pickup at 12.30 so there was a line at the hot food cafeteria counter with its steam tables and seasoned staff to dish out the liver and onions, spaghetti and meatballs etc. The Curbside Pick-Up was a bust as we called to announce our arrival (on time with Swiss-railway precision) and the phone just rang and rang. So I had to go in to the cashier counter at the end of the line and wait 3 or 4 minutes to be attended. The joint was jumpin' as it needs to be to keep the place from becoming yet another Chicago restaurant casualty of the Pandemic. Our order was complete but I had to ask for some horseradish for our corned beef sandwiches. It was added with a smile and a "Happy New Year" The sandwiches are huge and they don't stint on the corned beef. Potato pancakes are a must but you need to dip into your at-home pickle stash to really complete the dish. We added our own sour cream for the potatoes. You can pay Manny's a dollar for a tiny tub but we like lots of yummy goodness. A half-dozen bagels completed our order and we drove home to eat a belly-bustin' lunch with a moist slice of chocolate cake our dessert. The lean corned beef spills out of the side of the delicious onion rolls and is piled high within. You may have to dislocate your lower jaw to get a huge bite of salty goodness into your salivating mouth. Have plenty of liquid available to aid the chew (beer for me). You'll probably need a nap afterwards and I would avoid operating heavy machinery so leave the bulldozer in the garage for a while. Manny's must survive!- they're a Chicago institution and a tourist attraction for Deli lovers. Old School. Our bill was about $50

Been a loyal customer for over 50 years. Just as good as ever. Turkey pastrami is the best. Nice addition of the new deli.

had the half pastrami and half corn beef on rye with a potato cake...was excellent as always. even with the restrictions they are keeping the place clean and the staff is as always pleasant and cheerful

I was told about Manny's and called for a lunchtime sandwich as I was passing by. It's worth the time if you're in the area, they have absolutely excellent pastrami and prices are reasonable for all Chicago

We received our Manny’s corned beef through the Taste of Chicago mail order company. Since moving away from Chicago we want that true Chicago corned beef from Manny’s. It never disappoints. When our diet was broader the potatoe pancakes are amazing.

I love deli's so I had to visit a Chicago institution "Manny's" and was not disappointed. Typical of a deli that has been around for decades the staff are cranky, the food amazing and the décor is like stepping back in time. Had their specialty corned beef, perfectly cut, cooked and full of flavor. Also huge!!!. A true deli with all the meats, soups, salads, and lox, well worth it to check it out.

Just happen to stop by here on a busy Saturday afternoon. Got a great corned beef sandwich (so big had to split) and a delicious potato pancake. In a busy area just south of the loop. Décor is a bit dated but overall quick service, good food and good atmosphere,

Two of us stopped in for chopped chicken liver sandwiches served with rye bread and with a bottle of pop each. The bill was $26. For chicken livers? C’mon. I have to admit they were tasty, but a little dry. So dry, that it was crumbling and didn’t hold together well enough to eat as a sandwich without falling off. A little disappointing!

Wanting a pastrami sandwich and of course manny’s is the place The pastrami was good but a little dry. Also had the “what am I chopped liver” Thus was corned beef and a side of chopped liver, corned beef was really dry and the chopped liver, ok The next time I go there it’s got to be the Reuben the dressing and sauerkraut will add moisture. Will I go back ? Yes of course , it’s a staple

What can you say about Manny's Cafeteria & Delicatessen that hasn't been said since the storied Jewish deli in Chicago's South Loop produced its first corned beef sandwich in 1942? Located at 1141 South Jefferson Street, a block north of Roosevelt Road, it is Chicago's finest deli and produces Chicago's finest corned beef sandwiches. Open from 9:30 to 8 Tuesday through Saturday and 9:30 to 3:30 on Sunday and Monday, it offers breakfast, lunch and dinner with a full-service deli and bakery that has kept four generations of the Raskin family in business. For breakfast, I recommend hot oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins, corned beef hash with two scrambled eggs, Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs, bacon and potatoes on an English muffin with hollandaise sauce and thick Challah French toast with sausage links. Our lunch order is a bowl of vegetable soup, a create-your-own salad with iceberg lettuce, croutons, chopped tomato, carrots and chicken breast with French dressing, a Reuben sandwich with corned beef grilled with sauerkraut and Swiss cheese and served with 1,000 Island dressing and a signature corned beef sandwich on rye bread, nine ounces or 3/4-pound of warm and soft and thinly sliced corned beef brisket pickled with garlic and other seasonings and topped with horseradish mustard. Before leaving, we stopped at the bakery for oatmeal raisin cookies, six Kaiser rolls, cole slaw and a half-pound of hard salami, corned beef, roasted turkey and deli roast beef.

The corn beef and pastrami are top notch. I had the combo and it was outstanding. I added a potato pancake and kishke. They were a great compliment to the sandwich. My wife had the tuna salad sandwich with potato salad. The portion as huge and very well priced. The others in our party had had either corn beef, roast beef or turkey sandwiches. Also one had a combo with chopped liver. Everyone loved what they had. You do have to order cafeteria style. There are some old time deli guys behind the counter, which make the service a show. You do get a huge sandwich that makes it worth the price. At peak times be prepared to wait in line. They also have a full deli counter at the location.

Hadn't been here in over a decade and the essence of the place is just as I remembered it. Menu on the wall, cafeteria and tray type line, decent and jovial servers/service. Serious sandwiches and deli type food. Patrons are all types from Chicago - which is great to see. Nice bakery selection. Sunday had a strolling magician too. Place is clean. This place needs to franchise!

Stopped in for lunch after hearing much hype and Triple D fame; however, we were sadly disappointed. The corned beef sandwich was a lot of cold & dry corned beef piled on 2 pieces of rye bread. Nothing else but some mushy non-descript pickle slices. The "hot" cafeteria selections were warm at best and had been sitting out for while. The vegetarian in our group ordered the veggie sandwich, which took a long time to prepare. After he got it, he had to pick off the bits of corned beef on the bread. They appeared to be short staffed behind the counter. For the price paid (almost $16 for a corned beef sandwich) the food was not worth it and I expected a lot more after hearing the rave reviews. It felt like more of a tourist trap than a famed diner.

The corn beef was terrific but the rest of the food was mediocre. It was an interesting spot that one that I wouldn’t go out of your way to revisit.

Went for breakfast and ordered the omelette with bacon and sausage and this is what I get and my wife got the uncooked pancakes

Giant sandwiches, matzo ball soup and more sides and hot entree choices than I thought possible. I love the turkey pastrami and can find it no where else. Potato pancake and a pickle served with each giant sandwich. Food for the soul! If you leave this place hungry your name must be Joey Chestnut.

I love this place. The old school cafeteria scheme, the huge portions, and the delicious food. Princes sit next to paupers in this wonderful blend of humanity. Great food and generous portions unites us all! I love the matzo ball soup. I usually order a sandwich (not telling what kind because it’s not listed on the menu) with potato pancake to finish it out. All of it so good. Nothing fancy here. Just the best deli food outside of NY. A quick stop for some lox and bagels to go and I’m set until the next visit.

This restaurant is listed as kosher. It is not. It couldn't possibly be. They serve both meat and dairy and they also serve bacon. I fudged on the date. I was there many years ago before I was fully kosher. I would not eat their meat, but I did eat dairy.

We recently watched an episode of “Comedians in Cars, Drinking Coffee” with Jerry Seinfeld and Steve Harvey. The description of Manny’s reeled us in as fans of locales of historical cuisine. This trip to Chicago left the perfect window to uber over for Pastrami on rye, Latkes, and Brisket on a Kaiser Roll. Nothing, absolutely nowhere, absolutely no one can beat a Jewish Deli. One of our top three with The Carnegie Deli and Cleveland’s Slyman’s.

Manny’s , keep strong!!! Fight to stay open. Good luck. We will see you on the other side when the pandemic is over

Since I left NYC and LA, a good Jewish Deli isn’t available in North Carolina. So when a business trip took me to Chicago finding a legit Jewish Deli was a must. And Manny’s was awesome. Although they don’t have Kasha Knishes (Gino told me only New Yorkers ask for it-forget about it!), my pastrami on rye melted in my mouth and the oversized sandwich (or should I say the right sized sandwich) was home sweet home. And the latka side was Jewish bubbie legit. A Dr Browns cream soda and all was great again in the world. L’Chaim!

We hadn't been here for years but decided to stop in with our son for some good old fashioned deli. Still the same classic cafeteria style counter (love that) but they have taken the area in the far back that used to be additional seating and put in a small shop. Here you can buy some deli meats, salads, cookies and candies. The selection didn't seem to include the full range that the restaurant offers. I got my old "go to" classic - a bowl of sweet and sour cabbage soup and a corned beef sandwich with the latke on the side. Everything was still the same but nothing was hot. The soup wasn't that hot, the corned beef wasn't warm like it should have been and even the latke (read potato pancake) was cold. If everything had been the correct temperature it would have the usual five stars but cold soup and latkes, there is no excuse. C'mon Manny's you're better than this. Next time, I will check the temperature and if it's not hot I will ask them to heat it up. Still the best corned beef sandwich in the Midwest! Sorry Zings.
Sort it out
Arrived at Manny's as part of a bus tour. Had been told the various choices for the tour, both verbally on the bus (Starlight tours), and in the itinerary given to us by our company, who had booked the tour. Now, my wife is a non meat eater and had decided on the Lox, only to be told this was not available for the bus party. She then settled on the 'veggie', this consisted of a piece of lettuce, a couple of slices of tomato, a little onion and a meager slice of avocado, all served with poor grace bordering on rudeness. The only reason it didn't kick off, is because we were part of a large party in a good mood and did not want to spoil the occasion. Its very unlikely we will return, but sort it out.
