A fine restaurant where the competition is fierece!

By Frank C |

It's not your father's Brooklyn and hasn't been for many years. Carroll Gardens, Williamsburg, Red Hook have become locavore destinations. Among the many fine eateries, Marco Polo is a standout. Service is crisp and friendly, the food is noteworthy especially the salmon and penne, and the wine list is approachable. Their pear salad and sea food salad both stand out. Good food, good service in a neighborhood where Italian restaurants dot every street make for a high bar. Marco Polo steps up.

very good!

Pretentious

By SpecialK718 |

We've only dined at this place for special events (christenings), so this was our first time eating in the restaurant per se. The kind folks who treated us thought they were going to the Marco Polo they used to know and love. Well, it's been "renovated" and all of the charm is gone, along with the garlic and overall flavor. Here are a few suggestions: *Your waiters should not correct your diners' pronunciation when they attempt to order the pretentiously named and complicated dishes by reading from the menu. *If you are going to serve linguini with clams, you should put actual clams in the sauce. Linguini with clams is not supposed to be an existential experience. The diner wants actual clams, not a suggestion of clams. *Don't be stingy with grated cheese. Diners want grated cheese with their pasta dishes, especially the aforementioned very bland existential linguini with clams. Diners in an Italian restaurant should not have to request grated cheese. *When you do get around to bringing the grated cheese, leave it on the table with the diners. Don't make snooty comments like "Oh, I'll just leave it here then" in a condescending tone like the diners are being unreasonable. IT'S AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT, DAMMIT. *Likewise with pepper. The 80's called and they want their oversized pepper grinder back. Just put a pepper shaker on the table already, especially if you're going to serve bland food. *Use garlic! It's okay, IT'S AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT. Garlic is good. Out of respect for our hosts, we couldn't vent in front of them, but judging from the expressions on their faces, they shared our feelings. We will not visit this place again. If you want real old-fashioned "red sauce" Italian food, look elsewhere.

What can I say....they take care of you here and the food is great. I appreciate their hard working staff and have an enjoyable time every time we come here.... I have nothing but great memories of Marco Polo

Nice Renovation!

By Thomas C |

I have always avoided dining there, it was an old restaurant with an old menu. There were better, more up to date dining choices in the area. The New York Times mentioned in their Dining Section they had renovated the place and had a new, young chef in place. Upon going there lunch, I saw a new, fresh and modern restaurant. The service and and updated menu were great. I will be going back!

Excellent restaurant for all things Italian and fish. Great wines although Malbec so so and returned it. Branzini was superb.

italian at its best

This restaurant has been around for a very long time. It is beyond typical Italian food, every dish is wonderful. You will relish the at home style cooking as well as the newer dishes....short ribs a must!

Average for several reasons

By bookwithus |

Friends convinced us to try this place, so why not. After all the hype though, i would like to say that i had much better options to go for dinner in the neighborhood. Valet parking certainly was a plus as it was a bit challenging to find parking on Saturday night. Service at the table was really good. The staff is very attentive. Our biggest disappointment was around the food. The salads had more of greens then anything else. The famous pasta was average at best. We were there for early dinner (6pm) and already two of their top dishes were not available. Overall, service is good but the food is nothing to be excited about.

An unknown restaurant turned out to be a jewel.

By Linda C |

An unexpected jewel. Charming staff, great attentive service and excellent food. We all had different entree’s which included fish, veal, chicken. Wonderful flavors in each dish. A must ristorante to visit.

Okay Experience

By worldtraveler428 |

My sister who lives in Brooklyn chose this restaurant. It was about a mile from our hotel - Marriott Brooklyn Bridge and we met them at the restaurant. The staff was very attentive the moment we walked in. Apparently we had dinner reservations but none were needed on a Sunday evening. The positive experience at this restaurant starts and ends with the service. The appetizers were not good. The grilled octupus was awful! You had to soak it in lemon to be able to eat it. I had pasta and I have to say that my pasta from the box was better than what I was served at this restaurant. However, my sister and her husband indicated that their dinner was much better than ours. We all agreed that appetizers were bad, but our entree selections were all very different.

Marco Polo went Wrongo again....

By JackDodger |

I've never seen a restaurant go from so good to so bad several different times... Marco Polo was a mainstay restaurant on Court St. Brooklyn for many years in the 80's and 90's. Sometime back in the tail end of the 90's in went down hill and I would have never considered dining there again. However a couple of years back I attended a company function there and the food was excellent. So on my way back from the city I decided to give it another try as my wife and 2 daughters had never been there and I thought they would enjoy a taste of old school Italian rather than the typical chain fare we were getting all too accostomed to. Sad to say it was a major mistake.... There was a small party in the main dining room that seemed to take the full attention of the wait staff. No one even came over to our table for over 20 minutes and without ever even giving us menus one of several waiters who shared our ordering needs asked what we wanted to order. When the menus did arrive, I almost wished they hadn't. The selection in each category was extremely limited (4-5 items in each) and rather than including some of the typical Italian selections offered an odd assortment of dishes that all seemed out of place with eachother if you can understand what I mean...Nothing really seemed appealing. We ended up ordering the only app that sounded reasonable (the hot antipast) to which the waiter promptly insisted we order 2 as the servings were small. He wasn't kidding. What eventually arrived was a single very small triangle of mutzarella in carroza, 2 baked clams, a 1" strip of eggplant rollatini, 2 small stuffed mushrooms and something they claimed was a shrimp, but didn't resemble a shrimp in any way. All of which looked like it had been in the fridge for months and reheated for our pleasure. My wife ordered Mushroom Risoto, I tried the brocoli rabe wirh chicken sausage?, my younger daughter ordered what turned out to be 4 round ravioli in vodka sauce ($17.95) and my older daughter took what turned out to be the only safe approach and asked if they would make her a chicken parm (which wasn't on the menu) that turned out ok. My wife's Risoto was clearly the worste choice as what arrived could only be described as a think brown soup with what looked like rice floating in it with a mushroom slice or 2 floating on top, yuke! We waiter was quick to replace the dish, but her replacement didn't arrive for another 20 minutes and it wasn't worth the wait. All the dishes were bad in there own way, the ravioli were tasteless and gummy, my pasta was overdone and the chicken sausage looked like breakfast meat you buy in pathmark. Its a shame this place can't get their act together. Its a good location with a very nice dinning room. Needless to say, I'll not be back in this decade. Perhaps the next!

Very Good Old Style Italian restaurant

By YankeeJeff |

Five of us ate here on a Friday night. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. We had already had some wine and appetizers at my son's apartment nearby, so we only ordered entrees. All were very good to excellent. The Pork Chop Valdostana was the best entree we had. The Fettucine rolled in a cheese wheel was very good but not quite cheesy enough, the fish dishes were fresh and tasty, and the chicken dish was also very good.

Just okay...probably would not go back

By sillywilly |

The atmosphere was nice. I was there with 2 other people and it was quiet so we could talk. Ordered a bottle of red wine for $30 and it was good. I had scallops..4 large scallops with spinach, friends both got the Mahi Mahi, it was dry. Like I said it was okay scallops were $21 and Mahi Mahi $20 so not bad for seafood. We didn't get an appetizer or salad just ate the bread but it could be expensive if other items were purchased.

Expensive old-school Brooklyn Italian restaurant. Cool atmosphere, but not worth the price.

Brooklyn's must visit restaurant! Food is amazing and service great. We had eggs tagliatelle and a display of fresh sea foods and oisters to die for. Good selection of Italian and American wines and good value for money

Don't Go!

By Maria N |

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend that knows the area. I guess the mistake was that we took the recommendation. We were a party of 16, 5 separate families. The waiter refused outright to do separate checks, and also refused to take multiple forms of payment. An instant turn off. We had several very well behaved children with us and asked that their food be brought out ASAP. The waiter once again seemed completely unwilling to accommodate. But he was very quick to offer more drinks. The drinks were over priced. My martini glass was 1/2 full and drink was weak. Oh ya, still no food for the children, and when it finally came out, they forgot who got what and forgot 1 order. The portions even for the kids were SKIMPY!!! I told my son to just eat more bread. The entrees were not up to our expectations at all. Still wondering what all the hype was about this place. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

We had a great long business lunch with excellent service and a great menu. It has become a favored spot for lunch or dinner

Supreme service, mouthwatering food, extremely accommodating

By Pajeh |

On Dec 29, our last night in NY my husband wanted to treat my 2 sons & I to a nice dinner. We checked out a few places then settled on eating Italian. Marco Polo was breathtaking: tastefully decorated, cozy fireplace, great music. We realized that our picky sons would not eat items on the menu, our 7 yr old loves pasta with chicken & alfredo sauce and the 15 yr old loves Italian pizza (these items were not on the menu). We explained this to our Server he spoke to the Chef who agreed to do the Alfredo dish and the Server went to a bistro next door and got us a pepperoni pizza. We shared the charcuterie and olives antipasti and a Chianti, I took the salmon dish ( it melted away in my mouth) and my husband had the ravioli stuffed with veal and mushrooms (he cleaned the plate); we had fresh strawberry, pistachio & vanilla gelato after.

Happy Hour......

By Ray C |

The weather was warm and we were thirsty, so we decided to stop for a quick drink, sitting outside in the late afternoon sunshine. However, as it was happy-hour and we had no other plans, we went for one of the excellent signature cocktails and some delicious deep-fried shrimps. One thing led to another and we stayed for dinner! The Gamberoni was superb.

Great food!

By AlisonCorona_NY |

This place is near my job and some of my co-workers like to order from them. They do deliver and the food is delicious. Their prices are good also. The restaurant itself is nice and is situated on a nice quiet block. However, good luck trying to find parking! Fortunately, the subway is just about 4-5 blocks away.

Incredible Food... Great Service

By GaryMage |

Brooklyn has no shortage of Italian restaurants, but Marco Polo is one of the BEST! Huge wine selection...terrific cocktails... phenomenal menu...very friendly, competent and attentive staff. Exquisite pasta, phenomenal seafood, veal that cuts like butter... This is the perfect place for an unrushed, fine family dining experience.

Old style quality Italian restaurant

By viczi |

This place located in a rather hip Cobble Hill neighborhood is rather old-fashioned, in a good sense. Excellent service, white starchy tablecloth, great quality of food, large portions. On weekends live music. Wine a bit on a pricy side. Be sure to get a table in the main room, reservation may be needed. Tip: buy a discount coupon on restaurant.com

5 stars restaurant

Super Clean, super service and huge variety of wines! Food is well done. Feels like private dining and very quite after noisy streets. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Marco... Polo. Marco... Polo.

By MTDigs |

Good Food. Good Prices. Great Service. My wife & I stopped in for a mid-December 8:00 dinner. We hadn't eaten here in years, but were passing by. The food was Spot On. Raw Clams & Hot Anti, to start. Trout for my wife and Veal Scallapinni for me. the fish was fresh & well prepared and was a nice sized piece - but not my favorite fish. The veal was tender, tasty and perfectly prepared in a sauce that didn't drown the veal. The portion was a bit small, but it also wasn't over priced. Teramesu & Italian Cheesecake for dessert - also very good. The Cappacino was just OK, but maybe I was too full to enjoy it. Service was fantastic!!! Since it wasn't too crowded (only about 5 other tables having dinner) the entire staff went out of their way for us. But I have a feeling that even if we had only waiter's attention, the service still would have been great.

Neighborhood Gem

Went for dinner and loved the atmosphere of this neighborhood eatery. Clean, modern, and the food was great!

DISASTER..........

By raffagio |

Terrible Service. So/So Food. After making a reservation one full month in advance, We had the traditional tasting menu. Sommelier was helpful and helped us pick a good bottle. SERVICE WAS AWFUL! Imagine, the waiter would come and finally tell us what we ate after we had eaten it. I thought that for all the clamoring that this is fine italian cuisine, we would have gotten better service than this, I do not know if waiter was overwhelmed with his other tables, or what. They should have presented the food and had the waiter tell us the story with what was being served when the plate was introduced to us. At one point, we had already finished the plate, when the waiter who served came and said well what was on your plate was.... This is because your service is poor, my friend. Not very surprising. Anyhow, dishes were ok at best, prefer to go to some whole in the wall italian place in CONEY ISLAND and get a better meal. the charred hen we had was over salted. Seriously, I will never go back.

A Classic not to be missed!

By MGGambello |

My memories are extensive in this part of Brooklyn where my father grew up, and this institution is no exception. Many of the staff have been there for many years and the service is what you would come to expect from those whose pride matches their product. The pasta N'djua was epic, the tiramisu perfect and the bottle of Barolo was the perfect foil to the rich food. If you are within striking distance of this restaurant, don't walk...run!

We had a wonderful time.

By stanley01 |

Valet parking in Cobble Hill. How great is that? Great food, great wine, absolutely perfect service. What a great unpretentious place to have dinner. The people there really care about you having a good experience.

Quiet business setting for lunch! Valet car service! The menu didn't wow me & doubt I'd return. Upscale dishes w/o an Italian taste.

Celebration

By marvelous2015 |

The food and service are tops. Great menu and stunning decor. Some of the best seafood pasta I have ever had. Great veal and chicken too.

Excellent experience

By Eddie M |

I went there by recommendation...the food was excellent, atmosphere superb and overall service was great! Additionally, the wine menu is extensive.....

Underwhelming

By WhosShemp |

An underwhelming amount of food, and underwhelming quality of food during a catered event. Upstairs room is very pretty, staff was a bit under attentive.

Thanksgiving in Brooklyn

By macwim |

This past Thanksgiving my family and I enjoyed a very nice Thanksgiving dinner at Marco Polo. Very different than the traditional Thanksgiving fare, but very enjoyable. We took advantage of their fix price offereings and recommend it. Their fish offering was quite good. The food was good and the service was exceptional. I recommend Marco Polo for consistently good food and service. FYI, the price per person including tax, tip and a glass of house wine was $60.00.

This place is great.

By Paul P |

This place is great. Food was prepared perfectly. Octopus appetizer was so well prepared. The pasta was amazing. The ricotta gnocchi was unbelievable. The service was flawless. They care. You can see it, feel it and taste it

After all these years, better than ever

By darthwill |

A recent visit after a long absence found Marco Polo operating at a peak of excellence in cuisine and service. The décor has been quietly refreshed; the menu is as varied and generous as ever. I'd forgotten how beautifully spaced the tables are. It won't be so long before we go back again; I remember how lovely it is in summer. Bravo!

1950s-style Italian-American restaurant

By Rosetana |

This neighborhood place attracts mainly an older crowd that seems to either have lived the neighborhood growing up or is still living there. Service is good. Food is definitely Italian-American. Pasta dishes are over-sauced while in Italy there is never any sauce left at the bottom of the bowl. We ordered a spinach agnolotti that was served with what looked like brown beef gravy over it. What? Another dish of spaghetti with broccoli rabe and sausage had very little pasta and lots of broccoli which seemed odd. Last week the outside of the place was shot up. Police said likely mob related (see Eater.com and NY Post for details).

Great food and great service !

By Brooklynborn |

Had an celebration dinner with Family . From the appetizers to our main course the food was really good. The staff really took good care of us. We were treated like family . Great atmosphere. We loved the birthday cake they made for us it so delicious. Definitely coming back again for another family event or just for a couples night out for drinks and dinner. We really enjoyed ourselves. Can’t wait to come visit back in Brooklyn . Thank you for making it special!

Neighborhood fave changes with the times

By Joseph P |

We have been coming to macro polo for years, mostly for good neighborhood karma, tho the food has been frankly inconsistent . However, with the newly renovated restaurant, and young Marco in place as chef, this is a great stop. Well planned menu with southern italian classics and some more upscale additions. Even tho we were there on Saturday the 15th and Christmas Eve, probably the 2 busiest nights of the year, service was top notch and food came out nicely and consistently. Excellent angel hair with crab sauce, came to the table steaming as necessary. Fun atmosphere mix of neighborhood old timers with the stroller set.

Very good pasta

By orlytModi_in |

We were at Marco Polo in the past, the food stayed good, the service as well, nice salads and very good pasta. Nice place-recomended.

Delicious Italian Food in a great Brooklyn neighborhood

By spng2011 |

Went for lunch at this long time establishment today with my son. He had the ravioli and I had the angel hair pasta with shrimp along with a salad of endive/radicchio. All the pasta was homemade and it was simply delicious along with top notch service and valet parking. Can't beat it..........don't miss it if you find yourself in Carroll Gardens. Enjoy !

Easter dinner special

By Sally60763 |

I was looking for a Brooklyn restaurant with a prix fixe traditional Easter Sunday dinner and came upon Marco Polo. There were three of us and the price was a reasonable $39.95 per person for three courses. We greatly enjoyed our dinner, except for a few glitches. I know it's busy with four seatings on Easter Sunday, but when the waiter spills water all over your tablecloth, he should really replace it, not leave you with the wet cloth. Our salt and pepper shakers were taken away then returned a couple of times. I guess they don't do fresh pepper here. At the 5 pm seating, the waiter just seemed really harried and impatient. Appetizers were good, except that the insalata mista was just drowned in the oil/vinegar dressing. The leaves were soaked and I felt like I was getting a mouthful of dressing with each bite. Entrees were quite good - tilapia, chicken and salmon - and large enough portions that we all asked for the rest to take home. Desserts were quite spectacular - mousse, cassatta and a creamy apricot dessert. Really beautiful presentation. Don't usually take pix of food, but I did this time. I liked the atmosphere - Easter Sunday afternoon, lots of tables with families, cheerful hubbub. I'll probably be back here.

Good Food but spoilt by Waiter

By McGuinness574 |

My husband and I were staying in Brooklyn on holiday and went to Marco Polo's on Court Street for our 40th Anniversary. The food was really nice but the waiter spoilt it at the end by moaning that we had only left just over 10% tip and not 18% -20% tip.

Great Place

By Margaret R |

This restaurant is great we had a family reunion on May 19 2012, to celebrate my mother’s 75 birthday. My sister and I travel to New York for this activity, she came from California and a group came from Puerto Rico (total of 30). Since day one they were very helpful in all the preparation of the activity, is not easy to do an activity like this by phone and e-mail. But when we got there everything was as requested and more, their service was great, the food was great, the place was very cozy perfect for this activity. We will return.

Exceptional Brooklyn Italian cuisine

Mangia bene!

By AHRESQ |

Delicious food and fantastic service at this upscale Brooklyn Italian spot. A nice wine list and good stiff drinks. Fried artichokes, oysters Rockefeller, and burrata with prosciutto for appetizers were all excellent. Burrata was the winner. The house pasta made in the cheese wheel was amazing, but the entrees were all excellent. Our waiter was friendly and professional as was the entire staff. Tiramiau, affogato, creme brule, and chocolate mouse all made in house and all were great.

Old timer

By LAFAMILLEG11231 |

Italian restaurant good for old timers in the neighborhood. Been here for ages. Did a little updating still needs some freshening up

Amazing food--not always...

By Maria A |

Amazing food--not always big portions, it depends on what you order. It can be a little expensive, too, but the wine is perfect and the service is great.

Very good Italian, professionally and courteously served!

By GEORGE F |

Overseen by an everpresent Joe the owner, the restaurant is a truly professional operation with excellent food.

Always a great meal at this Brooklyn mainstay

By spng2011 |

Have been going to Marco Polo for some years now. The food is always wonderful and the service is great. They have valet parking, which is certainly a plus. We recently organized a group of (20) for a Sunday midday lunch. Even though we were a large group, the service was impeccable; water constantly refreshed and drinks (both wine and mixed drinks) were outstanding (try the Aperol spritz, delicious summer drink). Certainly worth the visit!

Tony Soprano Would Be Comfortable Here

By StepMorris1 |

We hit this restaurant on a sunny day in April, when we could sit outside and watch the lively street scene. We were past the hour when lunch was served, but the owner graciously allowed us to order from the lunch menu. The service was a combination of starched formality, and European snottiness tempered by friendliness, and professionalism than transforms "lunch" into a "dining experience." The menu, food, and presentation were all classically Italian, matched by a well-selected wine list. It was the kind of experience that makes you not care about how much you are spending. It also makes you want to leave a larger-than-normal tip, as is expected from a "made man." If you are feeling flush, and it's a sunny day in April in Brooklyn, this is your place.

Great food, great atmoshpere

Every time I go here, I only have great things to say. The food and service is always great. I had the lobster ravioli and my niece had the pasta. Everything was delicious.

Good Italian Restaurant with great service

By Timothy L. Campbell |

Been coming here for years and love it! Every time I come here I almost feel that I am coming home. Their food is really good and their service is fantastic. The waiter that has served us for years, decades, has been Carlo. He gives great insight to their specials and always tries to accommodate us on special requests that may not be on the menu. As I said they treat us like family. They have been here since the mid 1980’s and have a great reputation in the neighbourhood and support local charities and events! Highly recommend Marco Polo Restaurant. Do not forget to walk around the neighbourhood and shop at some of the best Italian food provisions in NYC.

It was very romantic

Great place to take Your mate, try the lamb, very good.

Poor Service Mediocre food

By Bonnie M |

The worst dining experience for Christmas Eve. Waited 15 mintues to get a menu had to ask for a wine list. Bread was stale. Food took forever to come out and was mediocre at best, never offered fresh cheese like other tables. The only time service was quick was to get the bill paid, as another party had arrived and they needed the table. So many high quality resturants in Brooklyn won't bother to give this place a second chance.

Great food, no restroom on the main floor

By Joseph A |

I've been coming to Marco Polo since 1984, due to the high quality of food, preparation, service, ambience. From time to time when there are large parties it can get rather noisy, and the waiters do apologize for the excessive noise, but nonetheless since the closing of sister restaurant enoteca, which was right next door those of us with a disability used to be able to just cross over and use the restroom next door, now that the restaurant is shuttered, this luxury is no longer available so I caution anyone with a disability that Marco Polo does not have a restroom on the main floor it is downstairs, Mr.Joe

The pastas were very heavy and a little bland.

The surprise party was a complete success

By lesliez705 |

I want to thank Marco, John and Diane, for handling everything exactly as planned and wanted. The food was not only delicious but the presentation was so complete . The wait staff and bartender could not be more accommodating, friendly, and focused on every detail . Needless to say, I was more than happy with the entire evening from beginning to end and so were my 50 guests. I would highly recommend Marco Polo for any upcoming celebration. No wonder they are so successful a restaurant in a competitive neighborhood for so many years, Hope to celebrate there again.

An Italian restaurant just steps from Brooklin Bridge

By ClaudioLin |

We were guests with the Italian Mask Coordination Center on Columbus Day this year. A good restaurant just steps from the monumental bridge. The owner made each of us feel at home, and the food was masterfully cooked. They have a good wine list.

Neighborhood Gem since 1983

By CW |

This was our first time at Marco Polo but it won't be our last. The overall atmosphere was relaxed, the staff friendly and the food excellent. We ordered a caesar salad (with their original 1983 recipe) and the artichokes to start and I had the chicken scarp. My chicken dish had large pieces of moist chicken with slices of sweet sausage. All in all a great experience.

Beautiful venue for a Shower

By Travelbear007 |

Great food and atmosphere. Very nice staff and very good service. Water and cocktails are served family style in silver pitchers but regular soft drinks require going to the bar. They should ask patrons and serve them at the tables. Yummy food!

Pretty awful Italian food

By skink |

I went to this restaurant in November 2014 and everything I tasted was pretty sub-par. Had veal and it was absolutely tasteless. The appetizers were awful as well.

Worth a trip!!!

By rosanneac |

Although our visit to Brooklyn was bittersweet ( attending a wake) we were delighted to be guests at this fabulous establishment! Kudos to the owner and his staff for the prompt, pleasant service! Tortellini in Broth, Chicken breast with fresh greens, tiramisu and a cup of fresh perfectly brewed coffee! With crusty Italian bread! Thank you for accommodating such a large group with so little effort! Cannot wait to come back for happier times!

Family lunch!

By Prego51 |

After celebrating the life of my aunt, we returned from the cemetary and dine at Marco Polo. The food and service were both top notch. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

More Expectations

By djhall1 |

I booked based on previous reviews. The ambience is good and the service very good. Food was..OK My tuna was good, though a few more veggies would be good for $28.Wife said salmon was average, nothing special flavour wise and few veggies.I would expect better on food, chef.

Excellent

By JoZi4 |

Sunday lunch at Marco Polo brings in their loyal diners greeted as old friends by the staff. I wish I dined here more often. My grilled octopus atop grilled cantaloupe wrapped in cucumber was smokey sweet tentacled goodness. The rest of the menu is as creative or as simple as a perfect pasta dish. Wine is reasonable and I'm on the lookout for the suggested bottle we shared that's sure to be my new fave. Well deserved five stars.

best restaurant in New York

Marco Polo is one of the finest restaurant in the world, serving italian food as if you were in Italy. We had a wonderful dinner when we visited New York last October 2007. Do not miss their lasagne... Thanks to the owner, mr Chirico, for the warm welcome to our croudy group

Our go-to Italian restuarant in downtown Brooklyn

By Steve1142 |

Marco Polo is our go-to place when visiting our grand children. We especially love it because it has VALET parking, this removing the need to find a parking spot in Brooklyn near the new Barclay Center. The food is quite good. I especially like their veal chops. The menu is large, and the food is good. We have not had any dish that disappointed us. Give this one a try. You are going to be happy with the choice.

Dinner with cousins

By Spufi10 |

This was a cousins reunion dinner - there were 3 couples. It's on the corner of Union & Court - very easy to find. Service was excellent. We had all sorts of meals for our entrees - grilled salmon, grilled striped bass, ribeye steaks, osso bucco all were cooked to perfection. We sat for around 3 hours, never feeling rushed. It was a delicious dinner & I'd definitely recommend this restaurant.

Amazing authentic italian

By travelqueen15 |

Our new clients recommended this place for team dinner. Wow they were spot on. Food was superb! The fettuccini pasta with wine and cheese made table side was amazing. Get it as an appetizer for the table - The lobster ravioli has such a great sauce and filling. We got the ricotta appetizer and some great hard cheeses and italian meats. The prawns with risotto was yum! every one of our plates was clean and then they brought out chocolate pizza dessert- omg so good. Definitely try this place. Loved that owner came over to chat and check in on us along with his son who was chef.

Very Good food and exremely Friendly service

Came for a party in the upstairs room. The food and service were excellent. The hostess was very friendly with a great smile. The Bartender went out of his way to make sure we had our drink.. We really enjoyed the Pasta, seafood and meats. We are looking forward to returning for a great meal.

A Fine Taste of Italy in the charm that is Carroll Gardens!

By TCMS |

Over many years and visits to Brooklyn, I have dined at Marco Polo's and have yet to be disappointed. My last trip in late June was not exception! Service was impeccable, the food, from start to finish, was excellent, topped with braised beef short ribs. Everyone enjoyed the Ripasso wine selected from a well rounded wine list, the evening was capped with a very generous heated snifter of Grand Marnier... As always, a thoroughly enjoyable visit to Carrol Garden's little gem!

Old world Italian charm with fabulous food.

My wife and I traveled to this Carroll Gardens restaurant to be part of a special wine dinner organized by the owners of the Castello Di Verrazzano castle and winery in Chianti, Italy. Yes, it's the same Verrazzano name as the famous navigator who was born on the estate and who discovered New York Harbor. I was impressed that the owners of the winery, Luigi and Silvia Cappellini, personally hosted this special dinner and chose Marco Polo Ristorante as the venue. What better recommendation is there? We were lucky enough to be invited because we had toured the winery during a trip to Florence and were on their mailing list. Anyway, I quickly understood why Marco Polo was selected. Owner and host Joe Chirico is warm and engaging so right away you feel like a member of the family. His son Marco, is the chef who cooked the wonderful three-course dinner plus dessert, all of course paired with Verrazzano wines. I wasn't surprised to learn that Marco received his excellent training in the highly-regarded College of Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. Marco's delicious courses included white bean soup, house-made ravioli stuffed with wild boar, and grilled pork tenderloin. Dessert was a mouth-watering coffee creme brulée. Now I realize that our menu was unique but it serves to highlight the talent of the chef. We'll definitely be back when we next visit this area of Brooklyn.

A fine Italian Restaurant in a great neighborhood!

I have been going here for over 25 years. First, when I lived and worked in the area, and now when I am visiting my mother or friends! It is shame that there host and general manager passed away several years ago, Michael Scotto, who in my eyes was the face of the restaurant and always made me feel comfortable and like family! Their service is impeccable. The waiters are there when you need them while not being pesky. I always ask for Carlo, my mother's and mine favorite waiter! His recommendations are always spot on and if I am in the mood for something special that is not on the menu they always accommodate (like their eggplant rollatini). Joseph Chirico and his staff offer great fine dining at reasonable prices with a great ambiance (Although to be honest I prefer the restaurant before the most recent renovations, not that there is anything wrong with the current setting). They periodically offer special dinners; such as cigar pairing with wines, Mother's day and other holiday menus which are always fantastic! So raise a glass of prosecco and enjoy the dining experience at this fine italian restaurant when you are in Brooklyn with family and friends!

Great restaurant. Probably deserves 5 stars. Food was super good. All four of our entrees & appetizers were very good. Service was also very good. If you're not lucky enough to find a parking spot, you have to use the restaurants valet services

It was ok, would come again but not go out of my way

Was here for a business event. The food was catered. I liked that the restaurant had three options and they were cooked at the time. We were upstairs and for a group, this worked well.

Excellent italian food and service

We found this place on a shopping trip and had dinner, can't say enough about the food and service. My wife started with the oyster Rockefeller which were very good and tasty, I choose the seafood salad for my app. done to perfection, my had the beet salad which was very fresh, I choose the Caesar salad again very fresh I asked for extra anchovies and our server had no problem bringing them to me in a side plate. our entrees were fettuccine al vino rosso tossed in a parmigiana wheel at our table, my wife had the seared scallops excellent. Service was excellent and we were not rushed the server told us to take our time and enjoy our meal, this is classic Italian, The owner Marco came to our table to make sure everything was what we ordered and to see if we had any questions or problems. We will return asap.

The food and service was great! The ambience was very cozy and warm and felt just like home. Everyone is so nice and the food was outrageous. They really out do themselves. They are always having some special events. I just read they are having there special 25th anniversary lunch and dinner special 19.83 for lunch and $25.oo for dinner sounds like a great deal!. I have been to their wine dinners too and the food and wine paring is really good. They are havng another one on June 11. I think I am going to go again. For anyone whom wants good service and really good food should come here my family had a great time.

This is a good Italian restaurant. We were greeted and seated promptly and serenaded by a violin player who had played with the Ukrainian National Orchestra. The service was low key and attentive. The food was excellent and even my normally fussy wife was very satisfied.

Doesn't get any better...

What else is there, once you have professional staff, superb kitchen, perfect preparation for all the senses, and a bright and welcoming ambiance? The only thing they could possibly do better is to move next door to us. We love the bar and enjoy visiting with regulars, the great staff, or whoever might be there. Marco Polo is one of the very few places we'll happily make the train ride and long walk, since we don't even live close to Brooklyn. We've had some great dining experiences in Italy over the years, but this is better and much closer. Take your out of town guests here. They'll owe you for years.
