Excellent nachos

By russkwtx |

We've been a here a few times and we are never disappointed. This most recent time we started with nachos de la casa with ground beef and they were excellent. The wife had Mario's sampler which is Salvadoran food--pupusa, tamal, plantain, rice, and beans. Very tasty. I had the taco al carbon and it was not as good as previously. Rather dry and not much flavor. Salsas are homemade and excellent--spicy and flavorful. House margaritas are only $6 on Saturday night--that's a deal! Service is attentive and efficient. We'll be back,

Great tex-mex

By BrussoDallas |

We've been frequenting Mario's with a pretty big lunch group the last few months. They are always able to get us in & the service is always great for our group of 12. The lunch prices can't be beat & the food is delicious! I'm always looking for new tex-mex places & this place is definitely getting added to my list. They have a pretty big parking lot out back too, which is a nice perk in this area.

Comida Deliciosa!

By Tom P |

We have known Mario for many years and followed him from another well-known Dallas Salvadorian restaurant to his own wonderful place. Great menu selection, consistently delicious food and reasonable prices make this a go-to place for lunch and dinner. Weekend brunch items are a welcome addition to the menu.

Good Food, Noisy Atmosphere

By 2011glen |

The food was very good. I didnt like the salsa because it was too hot, not as good as El Fenix. The chicken enchiladas with mushroom creme sauce is very good. The side salad is all lettuce and a couple of very small pieces of tomato. If someone asks for a salad, they want a decent salad to try to be healthy. The swirl was very good, a little strong, but just he way I liked it. The service was very good, fairly quick service. Waiters were very nice. Over all good, I would definitely go back.

Brisket Tacos are mouth watering

By fitzmary |

Best thing on the menu, hands down, is the brisket tacos. Get them a la carte...2/$6 ! They will serve you side dishes of two sauces, one green, one red but be sure to ask for the orange sauce....and BEWARE as it is major hot and will set your lips afire, but not to be missed. Very accommodating wait staff and bartenders and Mario always seems to be on site and happy to have your business. Clean as a pin.

Good food at a good price and excellent staff

By Richard M |

Mario's is one of my favorite restaurants in the crowded niche of Mexican and Latin American venues. Mario, the owner, is always present. This, I think, ensures that the food and service will always be good.

Pupusas

By Paty G |

This place was very nice and the food was great also I love that they have one refill with the horchata and agua de tamarindo no other restaurants do the!!

Delicious!

By Dimitri N |

Good portions, great food and a fair price. We really liked it! We had the mixed grill platter and grilled veggies and plantains. Everything was fresh and we'll prepared.

Great locally-owned restaurant with a great staff!

I’ve dined here on many occasions and the food is always consistently good. The Owner is always there to make sure you have a great experience. Super friendly staff!

Best Mexican/Salvadorian I've had since I was in Mexico!

By nightingale7703 |

My husband and I went to eat here on a Sunday afternoon. Even at 2pm it was still doing a steady business and I can see why. The food was excellent! I got the sampler so that I could try a little of everything and I am so glad I did. The pupusa was my favorite part, I got the bean and cheese and it literally melted in your mouth it was so good. I also definitely recommend getting the fried plaintains with any meal you get, they are so gooey and delicious, it was pretty much my dessert :) My husband went for the fajitas and the beef was outstanding! We also loved the three choices of dips for the chips, although the bean was our favorite. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't try out Mario's.

Stronger margaritas required!

By Dominic F |

I actually came here 2 years ago on a previous US holiday, and dined with a group of friends. This time was a similar occasion, with a group of about 12 of us. The waiters, for a group of our size, still did an amazing job, although I think it MUST get pretty hard. Once of our party members had to ask around 3 times for a drink. But the waiter was VERY apologetic when it finally came. Once the orders were taken, there was hardly any way at all before the dishes made it to the table. And once again, the waiters amazed me with getting the right meals to the right people - although some they had to call out to ensure they had them right. And restaurants are so happy, and very good at, bill splitting. Again, it's amazing that they get the right orders on the right bills. As for the food? Well, it's delicious, affordable, and decent servings. I'm not going to RAVE about it. The prices are good, and you get what you pay for, but you'll be happy with the quality of the food. I was just a little disappointed with the margaritas... They're relatively inexpensive, but I'm a "one-pot screamer", so normally get a little tipsy off one drink, but I didn't feel any different from having 2, so the alcohol content must have been fairly low... Other than that, it's a nice place to dine.

Consistently good food

By russkwtx |

This place has become one of our favorite Tex-Mex restaurants in Dallas. It's a bit of a drive for us or we would go more often. We went on a Sunday night and I was surprised that margaritas were only $5, it's like Happy hour on a Sunday. This time I tried the burrito with shredded chicken and it was excellent. Very tasty and chicken was tender. I would get that again. The wife got her usual Marios Sampler which is mostly Salvadoran food--papusa, tamal, plantain, rice and beans if memory serves. Service is always efficient and pleasant. This place is a winner.

Travelers' Rest, Salvadoreno style

By chevytexas |

For the "average texmex" plaintiff, stick to The Bell, pal. Mario does provision traditional fajitas in pork, chicken and steak. Very well, they are in Dallas and know us well. What Mario specializes in is Salvadoran cuisine, including seafood enchiladas, shrimp, crabmeat enchiljadas. They also specialize in comfort, so a tired single hotel visitor is treated as family, just like your kids or a Mom who was unsure about tamales...until this visit.

Great for Sunday Brunch

By bandman15 |

I enjoyed brunch at this location with a large group of friends. There is a small brunch menu offered, in addition to the regular menu, on Saturday and Sunday. Prices on both menu's are reasonably priced and there is a full bar service. I had the "fish tacos" that were tasty but the best thing on the plate was the rice. Not sure how they prepared the rice, but it was delicious. Service is fast and courteous and my understanding is that the owner was, at one time, the chef at another well-known Mexican style restaurant near this one. I will certainly eat here again when in Dallas.

Excellent food.

By Christina T |

Excellent food. Interesting atmosphere. We were directed here by our hotel staff. They promised great food and it did not disappoint. If you are looking for a good quiet place to eat, this is not it. Very noisy inside. There is a nice patio for dining if you can get a seat out there, though.

Top notch Tex Mex with a Salvadoran twist!

By Ruckstell |

Went here for dinner with friends and was pleasantly surprised by the great food and service. Started with excellent top shelf margaritas (rocks with salt!) Their table salsas and chips are varied (green, red and a black bean refry) and tasty. Our friends had been before and talked the table into the fajita mixed grill for two, and the four of us had plenty with a few scraps still left over. Excellent beef, chicken, shrimp in a good mix of onions, peppers, yucca, plantain and potato, with guac, pick, lettuce, grated cheese and rice on separate platters. For $31, it was a great bargain for 4! Try this place out, you'll like it as well.

Average run of the mill Mexican

By Greg G |

People raved about this place so I checked it out. It's in an old house which adds character, I guess... The food came and it was good but really just the same as most any Mexican joint around the neighborhood. I wasn't unhappy about the food but it wasn't good enough to be added to my "regular" list of places to hit.

Horrible experience

By MSheaC |

I went to lunch there with my friend/coworker today. I have actually eaten at this place a few times, but today has completely ruined me ever going back. It took them a while to bring our food to us, which has never happened before. When my friend touched her nachos, she let the server know that the cheese was cold so he took the plate back to the kitchen. A couple of minutes later, he came back with her plate and the nachos had more cheese. As we were eating and talking, she noticed something in her nachos. When she pulled it out, it was a piece of hair melted in the cheese with another piece of hair slightly hanging out where that one was. The hair was clearly not ours because the hair in her nachos was light in color, fine and straight....my hair is naturally curly and dark with burgundy ends and hers is in faux locs. However, when the manager came over, his first statement was that it could be one of her hairs then said it could have been from the napkin. When she pulled the other from the plate so he could see it was melted into the cheese, he took her plate. One of the waitresses clearly agreed that is was not OUR hair. The manager was rude and there was no apology. We WILL NOT be patronizing this place again!

Always Excellent!

By bkhtxag |

We usually dine at Mario's about once per week. We have never been disappointed! The service is friendly and fast! The food is great! Is soups and ceviche are always homemade and fresh. We are spoiled by Mario's margaritas! Even the house frozen ritas are good, especially the sangria swirl! Mario makes his own fruit purees for the flavored ritas. If you are lucky, Mario will great you at the door or stop by your table. He's a great host!

Salvadorian YUM!

By Pgrona |

This restaurant has delicious pupusas, brisket tacos and salads! Their top shelf margarita is super, all fresh ingredients, no pre-made mix.

Mexican Food at Its Best

By J P |

Eaten here many times. It just gets better. Tacos, skirt steak, chicken enchiladas can't be beat. Believe it or not the HAMBURGER is one of the best in Dallas! The hostess who also owns the restaurant is much fun! Service is impeccable. The Salvadorian food which they also specialize in is really, really good!

Great food, great prices!

By EC170608 |

This restaurant is a close second to my favorite restaurant in Dallas. Mario's is like home cooking at great prices. Great service gets Mario's five stars from me!

A unique dining experience

By laslaslas |

After visiting Mario Sabino's twice in a week, I felt compelled to leave a little something here on TripAdvisor. Walking in the doors, I was greeted with a smiling host and a homely atmosphere. The tortilla chips served at the table are okay - I prefer Uncle Julio's over these but they do give you three garnishes to go with them. Drinks are fairly cheap; however, I felt the margaritas on the rocks were a bit weak and watered down. The frozen margaritas were flavorful, but not much stronger. I ordered Mario's plate during my first visit. The plate had a nice selection of Salvadorian specialties, which as it turns out, is quite similar to Colombian food. The platter was a bit on the bland side, but the chicaron was delicious. On my second visit I ordered the flank steak and enchilada plate which was delicious and had a distinct flavor. If you're looking for a non-chain restaurant with a great atmosphere, make sure to stop by and enjoy the meal.

Awesome

By Tamera F |

Been here twice and it was awesome both times. The shrimp and crab enchiladas are so good. Had a shrimp chilichanga with serano cream sauce that was delicious. Service is very good. Glass was never empty.

The creamy green sauce is delicioso!

By fitzmary |

There are three dips served with their complimentary chips...a mild fresh red sauce, plain bean, and a VERY spicey creamy green sauce. I pour the green sauce on everything and I mean everything. Cannot get enough. Beef Tacos Carbon have very tender and tasty strips of beef. Have yet to explore the Salvadoran offerings because I get stuck on the extensive Mexican menu. Atmosphere is very casual. M-F both lunch and dinner specials at good prices. Happy hour margaritas seem to be a big draw M-F. Service at both the bar and the dining room is welcoming, personable, and attentive; they never forget a name.

Great Food at Great Prices Served with Excellent Service

By Texas_Travel_1 |

I brought my friend (son of a Latin restaurant) on a Thursday night at 8 p.m. The restaurant was full but a table opened soon. We were promptly seated and served chips and water. The food, entries, were Latin and tasted great. my friend noted that it is not just Mexican or Salvadorian, but other Central American foods on the menu. The taste was somewhat adjusted for Texan taste, but still contained great tasting food with authentic recipes.

Nice atmosphere, good food

By jj8117 |

I have no complaints about this restaurant. The service was spot on, and the food was very good. I had the chili relleno (beef) and it was right up there with one of the best that I have ever had. My friend had one of the Salvadoran offerings (grilled pork) which looked very good as well. My water glass never got more than 1/4 empty before it was refilled. Great service. All in all, a good restaurant. I would certainly go back.

My Neighborhood Spot

By Kevin M |

Marios's (its now just Mario's not Mario Sabino's) is my neighborhood "go to" Mexican and Salvadoran restaurant. There have been a number of restaurants in Mario's location, but Mario's is the only one to be successful. The Salvadoran food and Margaritas are my favorite. Here is my rundown... Food: I have had just about everything on and of the menu. My favorite bite would have to be the bacon wrapped shrimp. There is something about these shrimp that tastes different from any other that I have tasted. Mario won't tell me what it is. The chicharones are my second fave. Basically the Mexican food is good/reliable and the Salvadoran food provides some real treats. Margarita: Strong!!...and I'm not talking about top shelf. These are the best for the value in the neighborhood. Sun and Mon after 4:00 is $2.00 margaritas. Can't beat that!! Service: Spotty (this is the ONLY reason Mario's won't get Excellent rating). I know most of the long term servers, so my serivce is usually great. However, there has been high turnover of servers at Marios's and you are bound to get a new server that may or may not be great. Let me be clear: There are servers at Mario's that have been there for a long time and are AWESOME. Joel and Jesus are always great and really good people. They always are friendly and provide spot on service. Atmosphere: Family run restaurant and the family is always there. You can count on Mario coming by to say hello and there are usually groups of regulars around or near the bar. Friday nights get pretty crowded and you are bound to see any and all types of people. I love the diversity of the patrons and regulars. Overall: Please go to Mario's. You will find the food to be awesome and support my fave neighborhood spot.

BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN DALLAS

By laciii |

The thing that sets this restaurant apart is the flavor in it's food. Most other TexMex restaurant food tastes like the sauces were purchased in 5 gallon buckets at a local wholesale warehouse. I had the chile relleno which was superb. It was served with rice, refried beans, delicious handmade guacamole, handmade pico de gallo, and lettuce, all included with the entrée. The lunch portions are enormous, the dinner portions even more so. Boxes are cheerfully provided. The iced tea glass was never allowed to get low. Excellent, attentive waiters. The dining room is large, sunny and comfortably air conditioned. The atmosphere is lively but not loud. The background music is unobtrusive. Reasonable prices. If I had to find one tiny flaw, it is the tendency of too many Dallas waiters to ask too many times if "everything is ok".

A decent Tex-Mex restaurant for Dallas

By ChuckDallas |

The menu at Mario's is extensive. And although it advertises as a Salvadoran restaurant, most of the items on the menu are of Tex-Mex origins. The service is good and friendly; the food is good, not spectacular, but good. Given the price point and the fact that Mario's will give individual checks, there are large groups; and at any given point the groups can overwhelm the kitchen. But it all works out. There is a patio, which is nice. The only negative on the patio is that it is on the flight path for Love Field so if Southwest Airlines is taking off to the south, it will be noisy. But it's an urban restaurant so the noise is part of the deal!

Excellent!

I was here with friends on a recent trip to Dallas. We shared a series of 4 or 5 appetizers. Portions were good-sized, but more importantly the food was great! I will not hesitate to return.

Mixed Review

By Mike S |

My daughter recently moved to this part of Dallas and my wife and I stopped here for brunch/lunch on our way to her apartment. We love Gloria's so the Salvadorian aspect really appealed to us. There was a good sized crowd and though there was a bit of a language barrier with our waiter, he was very nice as were everyone else. the drinks were refilled and quite frequently and we were "checked on" by several staff members during the course of our visit. I ordered the pupusas. I was going to have one combo and one pork but the waiter recommended that I have the combo for both. He said they were better than the plain pork, They were good but a bit plain. I remedied that with liberal amounts of both the red and green sauces that they served with the chips. I also used some of the very tasty black beans they served to this purpose. The rice served on the side was tasty as well. My wife's experience, on the other hand, wasn't as positive. She had the huevos and papas. The menu said that the eggs would have peppers and onions mixed in and what she got was a little bit of egg, a lot of potatoes and a side order of potatoes as well. Way too much potato and with no peppers or onions, it was incredibly bland. She normally will still eat something even if it's not her favorite as long as it isn't "bad" but she left most of this on the plate. I'd return and give it another try but there's no way I would ever get her in the door again so I probably won't be back. Unless maybe I go see my daughter sometime when my wife can't go...Hmmm...

Decent meal

By Ashley Hobgood |

My uncle and I came here to celebrate my birthday. We both had the enchiladas. We thought they were okay and the margaritas were too strong. The service was decent. We will not be coming back.

Good choice

By caroleiaap |

Great restaurant - really big on the inside. They serve a combination of mexican and salvadoran food. I chose mexican, but my husband had a salvadoran dish that was also excellent. Service was fast and friendly.

Great Salsa!

By Hank512 |

I stopped in for a quick lunch for the first time and the tres salsa's got my attention right away. The salsa is representative of the culture of the restaraunt, and these were very good. The verde was avacado and tomatillo based. The red had roasted chilis that gave it a dark color. Also unique. There was a bean dip included to round out the "tres salsas ". I just had a shrimp coctail for lunch, it was ketchup based with avacado. The owner's presence was obvious and he has a very friendly rapore with his customers. Many good plates to try here.

Hidden gem

By russkwtx |

This place is a hidden gem among the hundreds of Tex-Mex places in Dallas. The restaurant is clean and modern. The service is very good. The food is consistently good. There is a Tex-Mex section and a Salvadoran section to the menu. This trip the wife and I ordered from "From the Grill" section. She ordered grilled quail ($13.99) and I ordered the tacos al carbon ($13.99). Both were excellent. Her quail was tender and flavorful. My taco meat (skirt steak) was also very tender and flavorful. We both would order again. House margaritas are only $5, a real deal where prices are hitting $10 in most restaurants. This place is a keeper and I highly recommend.

Best Enchilada del Mar

By chemtex |

Great menu and great service, but their Central American roots really shine in the seafood dishes. Plenty of shriimp and crabmeat in the enchiladas. I could only eat two. The salsas are great, but don't miss the black bean dip on the fresh, crispy chips. Delicious!

Great food. Reasonably priced.

By JimmyDallas |

Mario's is a great place to go with friends. Very casual and relaxed dining with a reasonably priced menu. They specialize in Salvadorian and Mexican dishes... We have dined here several times and tried several of the dishes. We were never disappointed. The chips are served with 3 dips... salsa, green chili and bean. They even have great nightly food and drink specials.

The Salvadorian Food was not very good

By Don P |

The chips and salsa were OK, but the black bean dip was flavorless. We did one round of house margaritas and one of the four drinks was very dilute compared to the others. The second round of drinks were all OK. The tortilla soup was OK. The shrimp cocktail was generous in amount of shrimp but the tomato taste just overwhelmed. Tried the Mario's Sampler and it was poor as there was not much flavor and the most flavorful thing in it was the fried plantain. For the Carne combinada the meat was good but the rice and beans were unappetizing in appearance and lacking in flavor.

Wonderful Service (except hostess), Food Very Lacking

By IHateNoice |

I was there with two friends for lunch on a Wednesday. It was 1215 and they were not very busy. The hostess had a bad arrogant attitude but other than her the service was great, friendly waiter and lady filling drinks. It was Wednesday May 24. Prices are very high for the quality of the food. The portions are large but just had no flavor. I had enchiladas, one friend had quail, another had a pork dish. My two friends are from Mexico. We all agreed that none of the food had any flavor, not bad just nothing. The salsa, nothing. You would be better off going to Sams and buying a gallon of their cheapest stuff. I will try again when free to have a margarita to check those out and the food in the evening but if this was an example of what Marios has to offer I would recommend another place, probably even Taco Bell would be good competition.

Nice lunch place

By Iris C |

Excellent grilled quail recommended by server Carlos. Chips with three different salsas were served while the quail was cooked to perfection. This place serves both Mexican and Salvadorian dishes. We have tried both on different occasions. I highly recommend.

Very nice experience, fresh food

By Mark D |

First time here and we enjoyed it very much. The staff was friendly, the food freshly prepared. The tables are all covered, everything is clean, plenty of off-street parking, some TVs in the bar area. They have plenty of seating, but I suspect it is quite crowded during peak hours. Their rice is unusually good. We'll be back.

Salvadoran and Mexican

By srdbigd |

This place is one of Dallas' best options for Latin style food. They bill themselves as Salvadoran and Mexican and the menu really rings true to that. A nice stand alone building with plenty of parking. They have a full bar and it is quite close to Love Field. A short cab ride, maybe 10 minutes or so at the most if someone had a lay over and was hungry for a nice meal. Chips come with three wonderful sauces, a bean, a green and a traditional. What to look for on the menu? Grilled meats and Salvadoran specialties like the Tamales and especially the papusa's. The papusa's are the best I have ever had. If you are not familiar with them, just make sure you get one. Grilled quail and other grilled meats stand out here as well. Mexican staples are also very good to excellent options at Mario's. Mario's will make you forget about a lot of spots who I wont mention but several are right in this area. I have to say I'm really glad to have learned about this place.

Love the Salsas - Fast Service

By ljtraveler_11 |

We were on a tight timeline but decided to go to Mario's - we've been there before and they are usually quick. We explained our dilemma and they responded well by getting our food out very quickly. Good solid selection of mexican and salvadorian classics. Our kids love the fajitas. Salsas are a bit different and yummy. We'll be going here again.

Excellent margaritas

By russkwtx |

We went here for dinner on a Saturday night and the place was less than half full, which is surprising because the restaurant is clean and the food is good. We were seated immediately and the service was attentive. We both started with a premium margarita with Don Julio and it was strong and excellent. Very dangerous. You want to drink more but you can't unless you have a relative who drives a taxi. They serve complimentary chips and three salsas: green, red, and black bean. I liked them all and the chips were not greasy at all. The green is really spicy. The red is homemade. For entrees, the wife went with the Salvadoran sampler ($12.99) and I went straight Tex-Mex with chicken fajita ($14.99). Her sampler was good, but she said we've had better papusas elsewhere. My chicken fajita was very good--chicken was not dried out. All the accompaniments made the portion very generous and I could not finish. The prices are in line with what you pay in Dallas, not cheap, not expensive. It was our first time and I was favorably impressed so I expect we'll be back.

Delicious!

By Maribel |

Great food and great prices you can't beat that. . Family of 7 with variety of things to choose from and it was all delicious!

Horrible Management!

By Gaulois |

I had eaten there previously with my spouse but hadn't been backf for approximately 2 years. My spouse ordered the Chile Relleno, but didn't like it. because it was smothered in running yellow cheese. I brought it to the attention of the waiter who stated "not to worry, he would bring it up to the manager and in the meantime, feel free to order something else which we did." when the bill came, i noticed that the previous order and the new order were on the bill. The waiter stated the owner manager refused to remove the meal because it was "touched" my wife had just tasted it. the waiter was embarrassed and stated he had only been working there 2 weeks and will be looking for a new job. We left a good tip but didn't even finish the food we had in disgust. we will never come back.

Good food, very poor service

By PSguys |

I visited Mario's with friends who love it. The food was good however this was some of the worst service I've had in quite a while. The server delivered all 6 dinners to the wrong people and never brought a drink I tried to order 3 times. My friend's second drink arrived after the plates were cleared... not too good since they were ordered 15 minutes earlier.

Good looking bartenders

By dfw3076 |

David & Mario are the best/friendly & entertainig bartender ever. Always looking forward to seeing them every Friday. ..

We don’t need your $6.50.

By Deltaboy69 |

A group of friends and I decided to have dinner tonite at Mario’s. One table had 3 of us, and one table had 7. Our table of 3 had a coupon for “Buy One Get One at 50% discount”. I took a screen capture of the coupon since I was texting friends back and forth (I didn’t want to lose it) and gave it to the waitress to process when she brought our check. She brought it back and said the manager wouldn’t accept it as she thought it could be fake as it was a “picture” and not the original coupon. I brought up the coupon again in the App and gave it back to the waitress and the manager reluctantly adjusted the $6.50 off our $80 bill. I asked to speak to the manager to inquire why she didn’t “trust” us as very regular customers but she wouldn’t speak to me. Not sure I’ll be back as they think a regular customer is “cheating” them out of $6.50 for a measly coupon. Was it worth $6.50 Mario’s? I doubt it.

Great Visit over Thanksgiving Weekend

By Jaguarbeth |

My friend and his family invited me to join them at Mario's for a meal during my visit to Dallas over Thanksgiving weekend. We began our time there with some delicious margaritas at the bar, that were served with chips and three kinds of sauces (a salsa, a verde, and a black bean dip). For dinner, I chose the baja shrimp which was so delicious and featured shrimp wrapped in bacon and stuffed with cheese. The dish was also served with an ample serving of fresh vegetables and Spanish rice. We had outstanding service during our time there (and yes, I think part of it was because of the relationship the people I was with had with the owners). Beyond that, this restaurant is a nice casual place for a good tex-mex or Salvadoran meal and worth a stop!

A good find...

By Michael E |

I had been a loyal customer of a different Salvadorian restaurant in town until some locals turned me on to Mario's. Food, service & atmosphere were great for our party of 6. Separate checks....no problem! Margaritas rock...and cheap! Courteous, quick & delicious... All right aspects were right on target....I'll be back!

The Food is DEEEELICIOUS!!!

By lindilou |

My friend took me here for lunch. I thought it was just another Mexican restaurant. Boy! Was I wrong. We shared the Viva Alfaro platter for two. It comes with jumbo bacon wrapped shrimp. It has a very smoky, grilled flavor. The bacon is not that thinly sliced stuff, it is a big piece of maple flavored bacon. The platter included grilled chicken and grilled beef with onions and peppers (suitable for making fajitas). And it also comes with some wonderful bar-b-que ribs. In addition to all that (enough food to feed 3 men), each person gets a plate with refried beans, rice, and fried yucca plantains. The plate has the usual lettuce and tomatoes. Of course you get your complimentary servings of chips and salsa. Now I love me some salsa, and a lot of Mexican restaurants have so-so salsa. Not Mario's. It is delicious and fiery hot and spicy-just like I like it!! Oh, I can't forget about my mojito. It was very good. As if I wasn't enjoying myself enough, Mario comes out and greets all of us diners. I told him how hard it to please me but his food hit the nail on the head. Mario is sooooo gracious (and goodlooking, too : ) Overall, this was a great experience. I can't wait to go back. So, when you're in Dallas be sure to go to the Oak Lawn part of town to Lemmon Ave and Hudnall. I'm sure no matter what you get you'll like it. Service is good. Our waitress checked on us a number of times, however, she always asked my companion ( a gentleman) if everything was alright. She never asked me for some reason. No problem, everything was GREAT!!!

Yuuumazing!!

By Hannah S |

Great Mexican food!! It has Tex Mex as well as authentic Mexican food. The service was friendly and very good. They bring three different salsas out for you and they are heavenly! My friend and I decided this was our favorite Mexican place before our main course even came out. Highly recommended!

Best chicken vegetable soup in town

By Thom S |

I eat at this restaurant probably monthly… The food is very good, and the service is great. Yesterday I tried something new, Sopa de Galena Chicken and vegetable soup Chicken breast, ear of corn chopped in thirds, yucca, big chunks of carrots etc. etc. Definitely the best in town!

Food didn't disappoint

By lindilou |

My friend invited me to lunch here again. Boy, am I glad he did. We arrived after the lunch crowd so we were seated immediately. My friend ordered the grilled chicken salad and iced tea. I ordered grilled chicken and spinach quesadillas. The server brought us some corn chips and 3 sauces. One was some thin green something, one was some kind of salsa, and one was a very bland black bean dip. I described them as very bland and underwhelming. But I prefer very spicy food. Our food was very slow in arriving but well worth the wait. My friend's salad was piled high with lots of lettuce and veggies and grilled chicken. He said it tasted great!! My quesadillas were out of this world. My chicken had that spicy grilled flavor. It was tender, succulent and very delicious. They had a lot of monterey jack cheese which really enhanced the flavors. I also had an ice cold Budweiser which was served in a frosty mug, just like I like it. Our waitress and beverage servers were very attentive. Service gets an A+ and the food does, too. And Mario (the owner) came out and spoke to us. I'm told he does this to all of the diners. Our prices were reasonable because we ordered from the lunch menu. Happy hour starts at 3 p.m. if you like to drink. A la carte ordering can be a little expensive.

DON"T EAT HERE

By Jon F |

STOP EATING HERE My partner and I have been going to Mario's for 3 years, We spend at least $240 a month there. We felt comfortable there and welcome until this evening. Those who eat there know Mario's wife, Tonight she showed her true colors!! We had an entertainment coupon. The coupon states Excludes tax, tip, alcohol and sale items. We had dessert which would have come to a discount of .90 cents. She refused to give us the discount and told us she was ok with losing our business. Yes she is willing to lose a mere .90 cents for our business. STOP EATING here go someplace that appreciates your business.

The Food is Good

Went for a business lunch. Looking for someplace good that we had never tried. Discovered Mario Sabino's on Trip Advisor search. The chips and 3 salsas were very good. Very tasty - almost too good because it is hard to stop eating them. Extensive menu available including many lunch specials. I had the cheese enchiladas which were almost excellent. The rice was Salvadorian and great. The beans quite tasty too. I will go again -

Fantastic food, service

The full name of the place is Mario's Mexican and Salvadorian Restaurant. Took two finicky high school students there during the speech and debate national tournament. They weren't impressed, but I was, and went back two nights later with two other coaches. They were also impressed. Excellent food -- could go there for a month and have something different every day -- and an unbelievably attentive wait staff. Several good Mexican places on that street and in that area, only tried two, both good, but this is outstanding. Responsible for high school kids, so cannot critique drinks, but soft drinks were fine and varied. Average entree about $15.00. Mario's Sampler was about $18.00.

Frequent lunch spot

Good, fresh food. Service good most of the time. A favorite of our office crew. Reasonably priced, offers lunch specials.

Not as incredible as people think.

I gave another opportunity to Mario's to be honest my first visit was not that good since I ended sick. A friend of mine recommended the place for its seafood and margaritas. Big mistake the food is not as good as many people think, that due to the fact that I am from the west coast with fresh fish. The sauces not impressive either and the prices a little too much for the quality of the food.

Voted #1 Mexican Dallas

If you like Mexican food fare with the ultimate margaritas in town this is the place. Mix in a little Salvadorian flare and you have Wow! Mario is fun, great service, and wonderful food. Never seen such a great wait staff. Believe it or not it has the best hamburger in Dallas. Tried that after about 7 trips. 1/2 pounder with cheese all over it. Great flavor enough for two people Tacos are off the hook. The Salvadorian food is just the best. Go and you will be very pleased! Just do it!

Always fantastic!!

Are at Mario's again last night. Had the pollo con hongos--chicken with mushrooms in a rich cream sauce--and it was fabulous as always. The staff is completely attentive!! A must-visit local restaurant to experience Salvadoran fare.

Great place for Sunday brunch!

Great place to go after church - very good food, $2 mimosas, nice menu mix of Mexican and Salvadoran food. NOT a good place if they are busy and you are in a hurry - food was slow coming out of the kitchen - but it was delicious!

Good food, good service

We've been here a few times and always have a good experience. This time we tried some new dishes. We stared with nachos with ground beef and they were very flavorful. The side of guac and sour cream was rather small, about a tablespoon, but we made do. The salsa is homemade and fresh. I got the brisket plate that came with three brisket dishes. I could only eat two but both were good. I ate the brisket taco and the brisket chalupa. I would recommend both. The brisket enchilada was too much so it became a lunch for another day. The wife got the carne asada (ribeye) and said it was very flavorful. Usually asada is skirt steak so ribeye is a treat. Our server was great. Very attentive. The margaritas are strong and only $6 each for house. Good deal. Ample parking, good food, good service. What is not to like? We will be back.

One of the Best Tex Mex Places in Dallas!

Start your dining experience with the fresh chips and salsa provided. There are two salsas and black beans too…so you have options for your chips. So many good choices on the menu and for vegetarians, you will be pleased! One of the few places that does not use chicken stock in beans and truly vegetarian (just be sure to mention that to your waiter before ordering). Tried El Salvadorian papusas for the first time. My personal favorite was the veggie chimichanga…it was solo good! Generally these are just loaded with cheese or beans and basically so-so, but I was pleasantly surprised with the mix of vegetables inside and the flavors inside! Serving size is large and we had left overs for the next day. I would definitely return!

I am 73 and this is the best Mexican food I have ever eaten

It is a nice clean restaurant, Not fancy, but nice staff and GREAT food. Food is all about the flavors, and this over the top. Mexican food can often taste alike, but this is different and I am on my back for dinner tomorrow night. I cannot wait to get back.

Christmas Party Dinner

45 people for our Christmas dinner on 12/13/14. Excellent fajitas and enchiladas My spouse and me. Great service especially in light of handling 45 people. Would definitely recommend if you have a large group meeting.

Good. Inexpensive. Great drink specials--Glorias on a budget

By GayFreqTrvlr |

Mario was for numerous years the manager of Gloria's ( a local chain Mexican restaurant in Dallas) until he opened his own place. Very similar menus, but much less expensive. The lunch specials, generally around $5.95, are the same dinner menu items, just discounted. Actually the same food at Mario's is better than Gloria's which charges $12.95. What you don't get at Mario's is the upscale atmosphere of the newer Gloria's locations. The atmosphere is nice, just not upscale. The service is usually fast and attentive. Drink specials are daily, but on Monday, margaritas are $2.

Yummy pupusas!

Being from El Salvador we are always looking for good authentic salvadorean food. Mario's delivers that. Great service, atmosphere, and yummy food. Its a drive for us but worth it when we come to visit family in Rockwall.
