We've eaten here several times and liked the food enough to overlook the poor service. We had hoped to support the new owners. But, after ordering and sitting for 30-40 minutes while tables around us were being served, the same server came back and asked "did I take your order." We walked out and won't be back. Too bad. The food looked pretty good.

Legitimately the best Mexican I've ever had, including the last 2 years I've lived in TX. While I've never been to Mexico, the place feels and tastes authentic and not anything like the Tex Mex you find at most places. The staff was also very friendly and helpful in navigating the menu and explaining ingredients to screen for food allergies. For the less adventurous, such as kids, there are items like burgers, chicken tenders and fries as well.

Seen this restraunt listed on restraurant.com, otherwise never heard about it. I was in the area with a friend and decided to give it a try. The place was empty besides associates of the place who sat in the far back corner, dining themselves. We checked out the menu and it was exactly what we were looking for, it really did look good. I asked to be directed to the ladies room and should have taken that as a sign. It was filthy! Mind you the place was empty, theres no excuse for filth. Returning to our booth, we placed our orders and were accompied by gnats...lots of gnats swarming around our area. When we received our food they just got worse. As I began to really look around I noticed the walls were filthy nasty,,,just plain dirty. The windows were smudged and probably had not been cleaned in some time. Just plain lazy neglegence I say. The cocktails were fair, over priced for what was served. However considering the maintence out in the dining area, I do not want to know how the kitchen is maintained.

It is the best Mexican seafood dinner we had ever had!! Wonderful service, great prices and unbelievable food!!

We are visiting relatives in San Antonio and I looked this up on Tripadvisor and decided to try it. This is a Mexican Seafood restaurant. Not much to look at from the outside but the food is wonderful! There were 4 of us and we all ordered something different and we all loved our meals. The service was friendly and prompt and the food and it's presentation were great. Save room for desert, the Flan(s) or Strawberries and cream. Look for the sign with the Shark with a fork.

We were pleased to find this authentic restaurant just a short distance from the hotel district near SeaWorld. Venture just a short-distance from the tourist traps to this nice little family-owned place. We're gringos from the Pacific NW, so our server helped us order. Their tacos are the best; open-faced with succulently grilled seafood and the best sauces. Prices are super reasonable and the service is attentive.

Had eaten at Mariscos Del Puerto once before and the food and service was excellent. Unfortunately, my experience today was the opposite. Arrived about 5:45 pm and the restaurant was about 75% full. The server cleaned a table and sat my family. The server was friendly and brought tostada shells with various sauces and took our drink order. When she returned with our drinks, she gave us a few more minutes to order. We placed our order and waited...and waited...and waited. No sign of our server. We noticed a few tables sat after us got their food. No sign of our server. Our server returned and confirmed our order. This is now 35 minutes after we ordered our food. We thought, OK food is coming. 10 minutes later the server apologized for the delay and said the food was coming up. I have not mentioned that our waters have been empty for a while and the chips are long gone. We had counted now 7 tables sat after us have now received their meals (there may be 12 tables in the place). My young children are now very hungry and complaining. I went up to the cashier area to follow up on the delay. We are now approaching 1 hour since we placed our order. The server check with the kitchen, stated there were a couple of orders ahead of us. I politely stated it has been almost an hour, 7 tables sat after us have been served, and I have 2 young kids that are very hungry. Ther formally nice server then snapped back stating as you can see we are really busy. At this time we decided to leave. Looking back, it is obvious that when the server came to revalidate our order something had happened. Instead of being honest with the customer, decided it was best to ignore the table. Living vicariously through the tables that did receive their food, the plates did look excellent. Unfortunately, I am not able to comment on the food quality.

When we got there , there was one table filled so we were worried about the good reviews we had read but it was wonderful! I got the shrimp wrapped in bacon with cheese and sauce. It was so delicious . It came with grilled veggies and cilantro rice. I told my husband that I could have just eaten the rice and been happy. Mine was only $13.95 - what a bargain I'm ready to go back right now.

This place just blew me away! It became a regular work lunch stop for both myself and my coworkers. The Chilaca Regia is probably the best food I’ve ever eaten!

Excellent. Senora Paula always welcomes you with her beautiful smile and pronto offers you drinks and takes your orders. Fast service and excellent food and pretty vast choice. Cozy environment Great value.

We ate the fried shrimp and fried fish. All were extremely fresh and fried perfectly! The staff were very friendly. The menu was in spanish with English but we were easily able to order..We will be back!

First visit with a friend. Both had an excellent lunch. This is west coast Mexico seafood that I found excellent. Even took home a shrimp pozole. Had for dinner, good also. Service and cleanliness good also. We will be back.

Saw this was highly rated. It was delicious. We did take out the place is very small. But some of the best Mexican food I’ve had.

This place is not your typical MEX Seafood restaurant in SA, they have other dishes and they seem to be original, flavor is good and service is great.

We knew this place was going to be opening "soon" for months now. We always relish the opportunity to try any mom and pop joint near our house, there aren't enough. To be honest though, I really wasn't expecting much since it is in a small ramshackle building next to an auto shop. Boy, was I wrong! We ordered a large ceviche which was awesome. We ordered a large Caldo de Marisco (seafood soup) to share, which was also awesome. We ordered a couple different kinds of tacos which came on fresh home-made corn tortillas, they were, you guessed it, awesome. When I saw the food I was blown away! From presentation to taste everything was way beyond expectations and I was able to forget about the building. I overheard a guy at another table say to his wife, "this place is going to be a gold mine." I agree, and I'll be back!

Since the month had a "R" in it (September), we thought we would stop in and have some oysters on the half shell. Not a whole lot of English spoken here so I dusted off my Spanish and conversed with the waitress and manager about the freshness of the oysters. The manager brought out the oyster tags which showed one bag was from Brazil(!!!) and the other from Louisiana and expired in 2 days. We took a chance and ordered a dozen. Some medium some small, the baker's dozen was mostly fresh tasting, but for a few that were a bit past their prime. Be advised, they do not have any horseradish for adding to your sauce. The oysters were served with the sweetish tomato "soup" that is used to make their cocktails. Not my ideal, but we managed with some heavy lime spritzing. The fried shrimp are a good size with a light corn meal batter and very good. The cook here definitely knows what he is doing with seafood. Best in the city? . . . h-m-m-m-m. That's a rating people tend to use a little too freely. I would say the food has been good the 4 times we have been and leave it at that. I will say that it is harder to find this type of well prepared Mexican coastal seafood in the city with only a handful of other places that I can think of quickly. Those whom have never been to Mexico and to some of the humble restaurants there may not want to stop here. Not a lot of money is spent on decorations or furniture and there may be a fly or two, That aspect may upset some enough to exaggerate about the cleanliness of the place. And this place definitely has that south of the border feel in ambiance and language spoken. So, this little kitchen will be a fun vacation-reminiscent restaurant for some and a scary little place for others. I think it's definitely worth your time and pesos, however, given the aforementioned caveat.

Great Tuesday Wednesday night margaritas friendly wait staff and manager. My wife and I each had the fillets the Diablo fillet was a little bit spicy but very good and the Costenot had a great sauce and lots of seafood on top. Fresh avocado as a side was also great. We got a sample of the seafood stew very flavorful.

The other review was right, the building and location makes you pause. But the food is exceptional. "Fantastic" was my verdict to the waitress, and the lady who seemed to be the boss was very friendly. She had some good recommendations for next time. The service was good, the place is on the small side inside but the food, (I had the Caldo de Camaron and the Camarones Maizal) is WAY above average. Phenomenal, exceptional, fantastic, DARN TASTY. I'll be going back, I suspect often.

This restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside but it’s nice inside. Very clean and the food was so fantastic!! Definitely authentic Mexican food. We loved it! We plan to go back during our stay this week!!

Wonderful service. Their sauces were outstanding. The menu was varied and everything was served very well. This place is a hidden jewel. Ate there three times the week I was there.

They certainly spend no time at all working on the outdoor, curb appeal- I thought the place might have closed down at first glance. Inside, they made an effort. (I posted a pic of the interior) The food was pretty good, or at least the tostada I ordered had a few appealing qualities: it seemed fresh, was a big portion, and was priced reasonably. The waitstaff was friendly (and assumed I didn't speak Spanish) and struggled a bit with their English, I think to help me feel comfortable. I've attached a pic of the huge lump of ceviche they gave me on my tostada, it's plenty for a meal. I'd like to go back and explore their menu a bit more.

First visit was over 10 years ago and was not impressed with the taste or atmosphere. The place looks better and there are more selections on the menu, but was not impressed with the taste. Service was ok. Appetizer arrived after the main course and was served Pan Fish vs. Garlic Mojo fish. Pan fish has a lower price but they wanted to charge for thw Mojo fish I didn't get. Food was veeery blend. Shrimp cocktail was the only item that was good.

I was looking for something different in seafood over the holidays and I found this place on Tripadvisor. I read that the great majority of the reviews were positive and that it was Mexican style seafood. I had my first experience there this evening and I was very pleasantly surprised that this family really knows how to serve up a good seafood dish. I had the filete al mojo de ajo and it was flavorful. I love garlic dishes and the sauce had just the right touch so as not to be overwhelming. The place is very casual and unassuming. Nothing fancy. Do not judge this place by the exterior. The service was excellent and the place is "CLEAN". AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT! I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Carlos Carrasco and his family. The entire family is engaged in the operation of this little gem. Mr. Carrasco, if you continue to provide excellent quality and good service, you will need to move out of there and find a bigger location in the near future. Best Wishes. Oh! and I almost forgot to mention that the hours of operation are incorrect on the Tripadvisor web page. It says they are only open on Sunday's and Tuesday's but they are open every day of the week. I will definitely be coming back.

Lots of signage out front tout the name of this little Mexican seafood restaurant. And if you don't read spanish, just look for the picture of a shark with a bib, no less, and a knife and fork in its mitts, e-r-r . . fins. Step through the door and into the "blue room" (the exterior is blue too - must have had a sale on blue paint that day). I guess the wall color of light cerulean blue is supposed to remind one of the sea - stark decorations and about 500 sq. ft. of service area comprised of tables and a few booths. Love the colorful Mexican style menu with a few pictures of available dishes. This place is muy Mexicano so learn a few phrases in Spanish if you don't know any. Don't worry if you don't though, the waitresses speak halting English. Tough decision to make with all the salivary flood inducing choices. I settled on the filete al mojo de ajo after quizzing the waitress about the type of fish used and finding out that I could get basa (at least wild caught) instead of the revolting bait fish tilapia (don't get me started). No chips and salsa here, They start you out with a complimentary copita of spicey, steaming shrimp soup - a very salty, savory broth. This is served along with tostada rounds and crackers. Hombre, did I make the right choice! My fish filet was griddled (as opposed to grilled (there is a difference) to perfection and just a bit smokey from the taste of a well seasoned griddle. The light, white fish was served with a sauce of butter and very mildly fragrant garlic; M-M-M-M! The red rice had a slight flavor of red chilis though a bit bland and cool in temp., and the slivers of yellow and green squash halves were delicate and sweet with butter as well. Forgetting the surroundings for a moment, I immersed myself in a meal that was as appealing to the eye as it was to the stomach and as good as some that I have had in a number of Mexican coastal towns. I must return to sample more. . .

Excellent taste, fantastic service and fair prices. I took my wife for her first time to celebrate her birthday, she is very picky, but we have been back here three times after that. She loves it!

This is not an exaggeration. For a town this big, with so many seafood places to visit, I have no doubt in my mind this has got to be the best. Do not let the modest outside fool you! The place seems pretty unassuming, but I have never been disappointed with any of their offerings. Even the vegetables taste and look great! They don't come from a can or a frozen bag. They're fresh! More reminiscent of ratatouille than institutional frozen food by far. I've had their shrimp a la diabla, chilpachole, aguachile, tostadas, shrimp cocktail, fish soup, etc., and never have I been disappointed. Portions are very decent too. I've never had their lunch specials, but overall the whole menu is wonderful. Service is decent, nothing fancy but good. If you visit, you may want to ask them to turn off the lights above the ceiling fan at the back because they make a weird flickering effect. They will be happy to comply.

I am not sure where the cook is from but these are authentic coastal and interior Mexican flavors prepared with care at excellent prices for seafood.. So far, in three visits about 4 months apart none of the offerings have disappointed. The rice dishes are filling for most people and a palette of flavors for the palate (chipotle more so than marinero (you have to ask for it now), <$6 each). The soups are a great mix of spices and fresh seafood. The plates are Mexico. Make sure you ask if a dish is "muy picoso" if you avoid hot stuff, but nothing has been over-bearing. The flavors come from other spices. We hope to go more often when finances permit. and we hope the restaurant retains its quality (as far as food and friendliness) as others manage rather than the owners. We just went to visit a Mexican seafood restaurant that was mentioned in SA Magazine, but we wasted our money on two (poorly prepared, over priced) shrimp plates but with a lot of outdoor ambiance. That experience motivates me to write now. In short, this is one of the great restaurants in San Antonio that will be easily over looked by Texas Monthly, tourist bureaus and such. (Culebra Rd inside 1604 - Far West side)

Yes I agree with the previous reviews don't let the appearance fool you.. Very modest place but the food was very fresh. We had a little bit of everything including the oysters, ceviche, cocktel de Camaron y pulpo, enchiladas you name it .. For me being Mexican myself I'm very picky with Mexican food, this place offers you authentic flavors, no short cuts , extremely happy and professional staff.. Will definitely come back with all my friends and family that get to visit us ..

Their fish soups are not only delicious but make you feel so good. Highly recommend if you have a cold. If you are well, this soup will keep you healthy.

Feeling adventurous, my husband and I wanted to try a new restaurant. After looking at Tripadvisor, we decided to try this place. It was a little difficult to find but like another reviewer said, look for the blue sign with the shark. Had we just been driving by, we would have never stopped here due to the poor appearance of the outside i.e., dumpy entrance, huge potholes in the parking lot. THIS IS IMPORTANT: Do yourself a HUGE favor and OVERLOOK those things. Inside is clean and neat, not fancy by any means. They have an extensive menu. We each ordered the small shrimp cocktail, the Enchiladas Mixtas to share and the Strawberry Cream for dessert. All I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW, the food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The generous shrimp cocktails, served in a milkshake glass, were abundant with shrimp in a thin cocktail sauce which was a little spicy with avocados and tomatoes. The enchiladas were wonderful with three different sauces, the green rice was fabulous even though I wasn't sure what made it green. I felt like the food could easily have been served in a fine dining restaurant. For dessert we tried the strawberry cream, it was PERFECT with a not too sweet cream, loads of fresh strawberries, whipped cream with a caramel drizzle. YUM! Seriously, you MUST try this place, just close your eyes in the parking lot, get your butt inside and prepared to be WOWED! I cannot wait to go back again and try something new!

Read others' feedback on this restaurant and head to go see for myself. We 8 22 shrimp and ceviche the status and fried fish. Both of our dishes were delicious beyond comparison while the atmosphere is very Mexican. The wait staff understand Spanish 100% but their English still struggles somewhat. Other dishes that were being served to patrons were also very nicesly appointed. We have decided to return and see about their other offerings. For now I can say that I recommend this place highlyas we were quite pleased and, yes, pleasantly surprised! This is a diamond in the rough.

Coming back from a trip to the coast my wife and I sat out to find good mexican seafood places around San Antonio. Found this restaurant using Trip Advisor and decided to try it. The prior reviews are very accurate. The rest. looks modest from the outside, inside is nothing too fancy but it is nicely decorated and very clean with a very nice atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and professional. We ordered a shrimp and octopuss cocktail, it was well presented and delicious, we tried various types of ceviches and tacos.. (I would have to look at the menu to give you names - sorry-) but I can tell you none dissapointed (we did not try any of the fried dishes) and ordered a coconut flan which was well presented but just ok flavorwise. Overall, it was a great meal, a good value and a place I'm looking forward to return and bring some friends to. I highly recommend this restaurant. Hope you like it too!

I love the food... the environment...the music ...it's low key type of place but wow the food is amazing .. we ordered almost everything to just try it all ...beautiful presentation and the taste ...

I wrote the first review back in November and just finally got back. Last week was my wife's birthday and I told her to pick anywhere she wanted to eat, she chose this place. I was afraid of a letdown after our first visit, but happily, this place has only gotten better. We made sure to order different this time and everything was fantastic. Can't wait to go back again. Don't miss this place.

Following the long snaking road that is Culebra out of town, you will find this smallish restaurant shortly before you get to 1604. If you like the big, flashy, boisterous Mexican restaurants with throngs of big, flashy boisterous people, and some big flashy, boisterous prices, keep on driving and head east on 1604 until you hit Blanco road. If you want some authentic, well prepared Mexican coastal seafood, this is one of two small places in San Antonio that I know of, that does an outstanding job of both preparation and presentation; motor in and tie your boat up here. The chef knows his art and expresses it in the dishes like I had; soft corn tortillas filled with chopped shrimp and sauteed mushrooms covered with a garlicky red sauce and slices of avocado - artful arranged and scrumptious. The ubiquitous fried shrimp were also perfectly done in a corn meal batter and served on a basket of fries with a mild tartar sauce. But the real star of the show was the shrimp cocktail - a cold glass schooner piled high with avocado chunks, medium sized fresh shrimp that schooled in a red saucey liquid below with just the right amount of chopped onion, cilantro and a very slight overtone of Worcestershire in the sauce. The glass was topped off with a cucumber slice that had been partially dipped in chile powder. Squeezed in a couple halves of lime and with the first spoonful, memories of a surf-side palapa, ice cold Coronas and ridiculously fresh seafood, and our toes stuck in the sand; all came rushing back - some of the best "campechana" style cocktail I have had in two countries can be found here. Confound it if they don't serve that God awful trash fish tilapia though. They are so much better than using that smelly fish for all their fried fish dishes. I am sure they prepare it well, but there are so many more varieties of quality fish in the ocean that they could use in their wonderful dishes rather than using such a fishy tasting bait fish. The light at the end of the tunnel is that they do have huachinango or red fish if you should happen to want a whole fish, which I am going to do next time. The sirens of grilled huachinango al mojo de ajo are calling my name.

We recently visited Marisco's while my oldest son was visiting. We were met with a restaurant sporting new paint, menus and new kitchen equipment. we were also met with that great tasting sample of seafood broth. While my son had the fried oysters and a ceviche appetizer, I had the Seafood Caldo soup and a seafood cocktail. The food was extremely tasty and the prices are half that of a more commercial place such as Bucanero's.

This is a small casual place, very Mexicano. The waitresses speak broken English but communicate very well. Not upscale atmosphere, but clean. Clean bathrooms. The Ceviche De Pescado is very fresh, excellent taste. My wife and I had El de La Casa, which is shown under "Tacos" and has sautéed shrimp with spinach, mushrooms , bacon and garlic. It turns out these are what we think of as enchiladas, as they do not have what we think of as "crispy tacos." I asked he waitress later to make sure we had been served the correct order. Nonetheless, all was delicioso!

This is not a white-tablecloth, candlelight-dinner type of place. It's more of a local diners and dives type of place. If you want GREAT seafood at a good price, this is the place for you! They also do take-out, so if you want enjoy your seafood al fresco or at home, that works too. We've been there multiple times (it's near where we live on the west side), and have NEVER been disappointed.

This was our first time to try this place. Had we not been meeting friends, who had been here before, it is not a place we would have tried. It is easy to locate very close to Alamo Ranch Area but be careful turning off of Culebra into their gravel parking lot as there are some huge potholes. The parking is small. The first thing we noticed was signage on the fence in Spanish only and some graffiti. They have an open dining area with both table and booth seating and for an early lunch it was not crowded but by the time we finished all the tables were taken. This must be a favorite for the locals. The waitress was very nice and accommodating. You can scan the menu at the table or they have disposable ones. The menu items all are in Spanish but do have some English descriptions and they do have a large selection of food choices. Although we were not really sure the exact style of the food as it is not Tex-Mex, which we prefer. We all ordered different items (ie. Enchiladas Rojas Nortenas ($9) , Taco Bacalao ($4), Tostados Siberia, ($8) Taco Siberia ($4). The enchiladas were a good portion and came with potatoes and salad BUT they were cold. The Bacalao was large fried fillet on open tortilla and topping and very good. The Tostados Siberia was very large and good. The Taco Siberia was lackluster as it was a small amount of shredded chicken, lots of cream sauce and good amount of avocado wrapped in a grease dipped tortilla. Again if you are wanting Tex-Mex, this is not the place BUT if you like this flair of Mexican food you might like it. They give a basket of several mini tostado chips with crackers before the meal. We did notice in the back small play equipment next to a open deck with picnic tables and a tarp overhead cover. Next to that is a mini soccer area.
Exelente Sopa de Mariscos!
Sopa de Mariscos! Very Good!! Good price!!! Recommended. One of the best meals I've had in San Antonio.
