Delicious Italian cuisine in a beautiful setting

By mariagloria |

Marisi is a popular spot! Be sure to make reservations. We enjoyed our dinner on the patio. The food was delicious, with quality, fresh ingredients. Service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is lovely, both inside the dining room and on the patio.

Glad we came!

Edwin was attentive and recommended delicious items. We each ordered the baby gem caesar. Loved it! 2 of us got short rib pasta and others ordered the carbonara. The focaccia bread was fabulous! Lemon cello provided the best finish! We had a great experience. The manager checked on us 2 times. Highly recommend.

10000/10 stars. We loved this place!

This dinner was the highlight of our vacation! Fabulous servers and food/drinks were to die for! The Porn Star Martini is an experience! So good! And the focaccia was out of this world. We got the short rib pasta and the campanelle-both delicious. The servers were kind, attentive, and fun. The vibe was amazing. Love love love this place!

Thank-you Morgan, for a fantastic dining experience!

We had a lovely dinner made even lovelier by our server, Morgan! Such a friendly professional who made us very welcome. The little gem salad was inventive and delicious. The fish and chicken entrees were fresh and tasted wonderfully. And the shared Meyer Lemon curd dessert with fresh berries was "to die for." Fantastic food and service!

Always a delightful evening out

We enjoyed it so much in February we went again in March. We have been several times since it opened a few years ago. It is a very attractive venue with pleasant wait staff. The food is delicious, a little expensive but everywhere is these days. It is a lively scene with a bar area. We prefer the front dining area, it has heaters so no need to be cold. I think it is less noisy.

Excellent atmosphere

Pretty!

By PtLomafoodie |

Marisi, La Jolla This new Italian restaurant is beautiful! Gorgeous indoor and outdoor seating, with beautiful oval bar, lighting, wall paper, flowers and lemon motif. A really pretty place for birthdays, special occasions, or a romantic date night. (5/5) The service from the front desk (hostess) to the waiter is excellent, attentive, and friendly. (5/5) The food is not that special, in my opinion. I had the fresh pasta with clams, and there may have been 6 tiny clams removed from their shells. I expected a white wine + butter sauce with plenty of chopped clams, but that is not what you get here. My spouse had the fresh rigatoni with tomato sauce and a spoon of soft cheese. The portion sizes for pasta are what you would expect for a side dish, or one of a 3 course meal, but not an entree. (3/5) The appetizer of prosciutto + grilled thinly sliced pineapple was delicious and presented nicely. The fresh gem salad was big enough to share. (5/5) The food is very pricey for the actual cost of ingredients and small portions. I would say you are paying for the atmosphere, service and location. (3/5 value) If you are shy about eating in front of your date or your friends, this is beautiful restaurant to dress up and enjoy a small plate of food with a bottle of wine.

Good food but venue very dimly lit

By Caroline K |

This is a very popular Italian restaurant in La Jolla. We enjoyed the food (we had the mains of chicken; carbonara; and spaghetti bolognese) and the service was very good, but the venue is so dimly lit, t's hard to either see the menu or see what one is eating. Other than that I would recommend this restaurant.

Delicious and lovely ambiance

By Lisa B |

Marisi is a great new restaurant in the heart of La Jolla. The food is delicious, ambiance lovely, and noise level in very manageable. There are many vegetarian options and they have a separate vegetarian menu, which is a nice feature. They have completely expanded the previous restaurant space with a high ceiling, lots of greenery, and though often open on the sides, has clear rolldown shades for inclement weather. We’ve eaten here twice since it opened a few months ago and have really enjoyed it! Standouts include zucchini blossoms, agnolotti with winter squash, and the brassicas side. Very relaxing, good service, lovely experience!

Disappointment and Dreary Food

By sunnyside2020 |

What a major disappointment, touted as a refined upscale restaurant known for its delicious food, this was certainly not a place to relax, conversate, and enjoy wonderful food. If you’re looking for the ambiance of a middle-aged, monied night club… you're in the right place. We were seated right behind the noisy bar, crammed into shared-style padded benches. It was so l so tight, that when another couple was placed right next to us, the person literally sat on my dress. We could barely hear each other speak…it was so loud, so full, it felt like a NY subway...it was incredibly frustrating (we were supposed to be celebrating our anniversary). The FOOD- tiny portions (eat before you arrive unless you want a 10-course meal ). I wouldn’t have minded if it had been flavorful, but the “hand-made” pasta was tough and the carbonara was watery and insipid, more like a brothy ramen than a silky rich decadent pasta. The bone marrow was very badly executed, it wasn’t cooked long and slow which left a raw and unpleasant taste…the only redeeming dish was the marinated beets. This costly meal cost us an evening of good food, celebration, and conversation. Do NOT recommend.

Wouldn’t go back

Lovely interior & nice outdoor patio, that’s where the positives end. Probably best to have a cocktail & leave. We had the shrimp, scallops & pasta. Each one was expensive for the portion & quality. The boulevardier cocktail was the only think I liked. Wine pours were anemic.

Great Italian food

Food and service was great, though the portions could have been a little larger. No issues finding parking on the street.

Great Italian Restaurant and Service equal

By charliewils0n |

Watched this being built 2-3 years ago. Great ambiance. Food was top notch, the bar knows how to make a great Negroni, and interior decorated wonderfully. Service was very good. Definitely recommend if looking for excellent food, a very nice, but comfortable atmosphere, and of course a well made Negroni.

Time to Change Some Things

By Diane C |

We ate in the patio, four of us. The music was too loud, flies were everywhere. The service was good. Out of 4 dinners only the chicken was good. The steak had no flavor. The lamb ragu was too salty and the pasta was al dente to the point of having to cut with a knife. The artichoke came with only the heart. The squash blossoms were greasy. The Cesar salad was good. The bread was disappointing. Limited menu 5 items for dinner. Steak cost was over $l25. and not worth it. Drinks by the glass limited. We had Kistler for $33.00 a glass. I would not go back.

Great ambience, tasteless food.

Charming restaurant that feels like a garden with very good staff. Our friends really enjoyed the squash blossoms, but the pasta Norma had no eggplant and the sauce tasted as though it was from a can. We were very disappointed and we would not return.

Disappointing

We were anticipating a wonderful evening out. We were disappointed. Food was OK. Way overpriced and very small portions. Service was OK. Ambiance was OK. Probably not going back. There are definitely better places.

Bound for glory

My wife and I were in La Jolla to celebrate our anniversary. We cancelled our anniversary dinner at another highly rated restaurant because the weather was unusually hot and humid and it did not have ac. We picked Marisi’s simply because they had ac and it looked nice from the outside. There was very little info on it because it just opened. The restaurant is fabulous as was the food and wine. We had zucchini flowers, a salad, artichokes, and the sea bass as well as two desserts. The host and waitresses were friendly and helpful and provided a complimentary glass of procecco for our anniversary. I project that Marisi’s will become one of the top restaurants in La Jolla. It is as good as the best restaurants we have eaten at over many years. Cheers!

Take a HARD PASS on Marisi.

We came down from LA to celebrate my mother’s 87th birthday. We’ve traveled the world and have dined at some of the best restaurants in the world. While we weren’t expecting a life-changing culinary experience, we were hoping for a decent meal at the very least. Unfortunately, we didn’t achieve that goal. We ordered cocktails when we stay down. 20 minutes in, we still hadn’t received them. Our appetizers, ordered 10 minutes after drinks, began arriving before our drinks. Every time we ordered additional drinks, it was a 20 minute delay with the waiter’s only answer being that “it’s very busy - we only have two bartenders. Further, the wait staff was more interested in clearing our plates than letting us finish our meal. We had to continually tell them to hold off as we weren’t finished. In the end, it was a $665 bill for 4 ppl and Forbes a VERY mediocre meal and even less impressive experience. I would be a hard pass on this restaurant. You can do much better by boiling a box of pasta, pouring tomato sauce over it, and sprinkling parmesan cheese over the top.

Totally underrated!

As a local, this should be a top 5 restaurant in La Jolla, but somehow it's just being missed by travelers. This was our third dinner here, and it's one of our favorite places in The Village. We have eaten in the intimate back dining room, on the outside terrace, and now on their raised patio on the street, and all three are comfortable with great service. If it was my first time here, I would request the outdoor patio seating, which has a very hip vibe. Travis was our server this time, and he and his team crushed it, never with a low water glass and fast/friendly service. I recommend that you share plates and eat everything family style, as there are so many wonderful things to choose from. All items were fresh, inventive and flavorful. Our favorite were the squash blossoms and the chopped salad. The focaccia bread is a must, and you get a full round loaf served to the table. The crudo is a must, delicious, but a bit small on the portion size, otherwise perfect. You also cannot go wrong with the pastas. Their drink menu is extensive, and they have some solid NA options as well. The setting is gorgeous, and it's nice balance between fine dining and casual. I would not bring kids though, as it's very adult.

Great pasta !

Gorgeous and romantic spot perfect for couples or family dining. The pastas were very good and the service was excellent . I would go back.

A Perfect Meal

By Peter M |

Ever so rarely do we experience a perfect meal. We did just that at Marisi. When I say "perfect," I mean every element of the dining experience was spot-on. I'll start with the food. Our server Lucas steered our suggestions to the perfect combination. We started with the burrata, which went perfectly with the carpaccio. Meanwhile, my wife said the lemon drop was the best she's ever had (and she would admit to expertise in this area). For the main course, we shared campanelle pesto and bluefin tuna. What a great mix of flavors. As the food was presented, we could not help but notice what a well-run establishment this is. From every member of the wait staff making sure water glasses are full and plates are cleared to the hostesses pitching in on setting tables when the rush started. Karley, the GM, offered us the dessert menu, but we were in a hurry to attend a concert, so while we admitted the tiramisu cream puffs sounded delicious, we passed. But when Karley came back with the check, she left us two to sample! That is above-and-beyond service. That was a perfect meal. There is no doubt we will return to Marisi, and we'll probably bring a few friends too. Make sure to make a reservation as this place was hopping.

Horrible restaurant

By visitor from London |

My experience at Marisi was extremely disappointing. While we were having drinks, a leak from the ceiling started. The air-conditioning was switched off in advance, and my dress was left completely wet. Instead of handling the situation with care, the staff offered me only bread as “compensation” — something that is normally complimentary anyway. In the end, they didn’t even bring the bread. When I raised my concerns, I was spoken to in a very aggressive manner, particularly by Christine, whose attitude was unprofessional and unpleasant. The lack of hospitality, empathy, and proper service in such a situation was unacceptable. For a restaurant of this level, I expected responsibility, courtesy, and a genuine attempt to make things right — none of which I received.
