Something has shifted since the last time we dined here. Perhaps because it was a Saturday evening, and it's now more of a lunch/weekday spot. Perhaps because it's summer. But it was not the hustling, bustling, vibrant place I remember. When we arrived at 7:30, there were maybe only 4 tables seated. We were a larger party and were seated inside. First impression was lacking, as the host and a server were huddled over a phone and didn't notice us come in (hello, we were a large party?! Kinda hard to miss...). Service and food were just ok. Server was sweet, but was seated a bunch of tables just after our wine arrived, and clearly had a hard time keeping up. We had to flag her down several times to get her attention. Food was just ok. We had a wide variety of appetizers and entrees/salads. Crab deviled eggs were delish, as were the homemade rolls. Halibut got good (not rave) reviews, and the two salads were just ok. It's expensive. We're talking $25 entrees, $20 salads. Honestly, you can do alot better in SF for those prices. And with more atmosphere. By 9:00, we were getting the signal to clear out, and the servers were cleaning up, on their phones and ready to go home. It felt a bit odd given how early it was. All in all, I'd maybe again but for lunch (cheaper) or on a weekday (better vibe?).

I was taking the Ferry to Oakland so stopped in at the bar for a quick drink. Portions were small but the service was prompt. There is a nice area to sit outside but it was getting cold so we sat at the bar. The restaurant does not have a rest room so you need to use the public restroom in the Ferry Building.

Amid the business of the Ferry Building, we enjoyed a relaxed brunch on the patio of MarketBar. There was only one available table outside, and it was in partial sun, so the host brought over wide brimmed hats for those of us in the sun. How cool is that! The food was fine. The hamburger I had was quite tasty. It's just that there are so many more interesting things to sample inside the Ferry Building, it would be nice if there more interesting menu items here.

We had breakfast at Marketbar twice. Absolutely delicious and excellent, cheery service. Loved the calendar of seasonal produce written on the wall. Highly recommended.

We had Sunday brunch for a party of 5. Most of the party ordered from the regular menu, and only 1 of us ordered from the brunch menu. The mimosas were delicious, and the service was pleasant and efficient. We all enjoyed our meals (crab sandwiches, an omelette and a hamburger), but at ~$50 per person, it was a bit pricey, though I suppose typical of what you'd expect to pay in this very popular touristy area. (We're not tourists.) When I inquired about the restroom I was pointed to a door that lead outside the restaurant and into the main hall of the Ferry Building, where the line to the ladies room snaked around the corner. How odd that an upscale restaurant doesn't have their own restrooms...

An on the spot decision to dine at the MarketBar and we were not disappointed. Unfortunately the restaurant closes early especially for a Saturday night so we could not linger and enjoy the ambiance as per our usual dining experience. Our waiter was very kind and conscientious. A gentleman that took the time to escort me to the ladies room which was a distance from the restaurant proper. He and the restaurant receive gold stars for hiring him. Ok now to the food. The deviled egg appetizer was delicious and a nice starter for us hungry folks. The fish entree was yummy and so was the gnocchi. A shared dessert ended a nice meal. Would definitely return. PS...the cocktails were great!

Stopped in for a mid afternoon snack. The menu changes at 4pm and we were able to take advantage of this - the mid-afternoon menu is quite limited, but the 4pm menu offers a bit more. Everything we had was very creative and tasty. Our server was amazing - he totally made our visit a great experience (he is tall, but sadly, I forgot his name). There is a good menu for young adults. Indoor and outdoor seating is nice. The Ferry Terminal was busy and this place had seating available when others didn't.

Great spot for a Sunday Brunch. Wonderful service and great food. My husband and I enjoyed omelette and a pancake. They have a nice patio too! Will return.

We ate here twice. Once inside, once outside. Its on the Embarcadero, off Market, the opposite end from Fisherman's Wharf. The food was very good but when its busy the service is ok but don't be in a rush. Seating, you are on your own. find an empty table and sit down. We enjoyed both inside and outside and both visits. Its in the ferry building, which is beautiful, so you are near the ferry's and plenty of shopping . The restaurant is part of a nice day.

Four of us had a wonderful lunch here on Tuesday. My wife and I each ordered a two-course meal ($28) and our friends each got a salad, entree, and dessert. We all shared an excellent bottle of pinot noir that went well with both the fish and meats we enjoyed. The location is great and the service was wonderful. We'll be back.

Stopped at MarketBar for a late lunch with my girlfriend and my brother on a recent trip to San Francisco. We were looking for somewhere to sit outside and relax for an hour or so before heading to Oakland for our flight. The MarketBar was ideally placed a few steps from our hotel and close to BART, plus it had a terrace and so we could sit in the sun. Firstly, service - absolutely impeccable. Our server Padraig was charming, courteous, very friendly and professional. He looked after us from the moment we arrived and was attentive without being overbearing. The menu itself is pretty high-end in the sense that you won't get your regular bar food here but there's a good selection that should keep everyone happy. We had the flatbread and the ravioli and both were fantastic - loads of flavour, well presented, and clearly freshly cooked. There was a good selection of beers and wines to match the food and we relaxed in the warm afternoon sun. The only minor downside is that the restrooms are in the Ferry Building itself so a few steps from the restaurant but they were clean and well maintained. I would certainly recommend the MarketBar. We were well looked after and had some excellent food and drinks while watching the world go by.

It's a great place for a special cocktail and a nibble with Marin-bound friends and colleagues as well as enjoying the last of the sun. Charlie was a great server, although some rave about Blue's section as the place to be!

We have eaten here before and enjoyed it, but this was a terrible lunch. There was a bowl of clam chowder, a piece of cheese about an inch and a half, a small bunch of grapes, and a hastily drizzled piece of toasted bread. All for $17. We have been coming to San Francisco our whole lives, and eaten in many different restaurants. A lunch like this in San Francisco is just not San Francisco at its best.

Very good food and service. The basil omlette was excellent and the service was great. We got there at 9:00 AM on a Sunday morning so no wait. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for breakfast.

Don't bother. First off, even though it wasn't crowded (which should have been an indication), service was slow. Waiter never offered us the menu for brunch, only the lunch menu. $20 for a mediocre hamburger, and my fish tacos had NO avocado, even thought the menu's description said avocado. $4 for a diet coke, an 8 ounce bottle. Don't waste you time, or your money here.

Went to giants game had breakfast Saturday scrambled eggs toast and bacon but during the week they have three kinds of bacon the best I have ever had .

The menu has something for everyone at lunch- a burger, some salads, some sandwiches and flatbreads. The patio has many umbrellas, but our table was in the sun. Not to worry, as our server brought all of us straw hats!

We went for brunch at an off-time (10am Wednesday) and we had the place to ourselves. It was quiet inside, but the windows facing the street allowed us to watch people walking by. The food was really good, not overdone or too complicated. The service was attentive without being overbearing. Can't wait to return!

Inside and outside seating, part of the Ferry Building. Brunch menu on weekends. Food very good and plentiful service just a tad slow. I made reservations and once we were seated it took a bit of time before anyone came to take our order. Of course once we were done it took no time at all for them to bring the bill.

We stopped for a small snack and a beer, both of which were good, but the best thing about this place was the wait staff, got chatting away to a guy who was super personable, gave us awesome directions, recommended a netflix show, and talked taxis vs uber. Great spot too.

my wife and I dropped in after visiting Alcatraz we wanted to fit outside but as it was Saturday and farmers market was on had to sit at bar for fifteen minutes until a table came up . We had two lovely local beers , as always much ,ore than I would have paid in UK 15 dollars for two drinks. Once seated service was fantastic may wife had flat bread I had chicken ceaser , her meal was great mine disappointing . The ceaser salad should have green leaves with minimal veins (core of the lettuce) , this was 90 percent the other way.. My dad used to be head steward on queen Mary where this was a signature dish so I have had this more than once. To put into perspective the same dish in hard rock was cheaper and better. Still we would go back location and service where great

This is the right place for a brunch on Saturday after shopping at the embarcadero farmers market. Staff is super friendly. The have a lovely outdoor space. The food and choice are quite good. It is a little bit pricey, but that's what you pay for the location

We enjoyed sitting out on the patio and having a glass of wine with appetizers. It is a central location to watch people.

Went to the Ferry Building on Market Day. Had a wonderful time. After spending a long time experiencing the vendors we were hungry and had lunch at the MarketBar. Had a very nice lunch. The weather was delightful and so the Ferry area was very busy as was the restaurant. In spite of the crowds the service was very good. There were six of us and we were seated in a reasonable amount of time. The server was very efficient and personable. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The pear flatbread was a big hit.

The day was perfect for outside dining. The Farmer's Market was in full swing and the tomato sandwich was a disappointment. Mostly bacon and a green tomato.

Went there on a walk around the Piers - its located in the Fery building and we had small plates to share between us which was fine for a lunch as the sizes were good. Can definitely recommend the Shisito Peppers and the Nachos which were both very good. Definitely order the peppers as they were so good we ordered another plate and looking around all the tables had ordered them as well

Well-prepared meals at fair prices- my partner and I shared a dozen Oysters at Happy Hour prices, followed by Ahi seated tuna and roast petit chicken both flavorful. Our guests had a fluffy gem lettuce Cesar salad, and a grilled seared snapper-they were happy with it! Wines were interesting. We had a Grüner Vetliner with unusual tones-0f grass. Over all, an enjoyable evening.

I recently stayed across the street from the Ferry Building. We found ourselves returning to the MarketBar several times for brunch. The scrambled eggs with tomatoes, bacon, and sourdough toast was a favorite. We sat outside twice and enjoyed watching the people on the Embarcado. Service was friendly, and we lingered both days over coffee without feeling rushed to turn over the table.

Wow! This place is great for brunch. We sat outside on the large patio. The soft scrambled eggs are AMAZING. The eggs come with potatoes, toast, and bacon or sausage. I opted for a bowl of fresh fruit instead of the meat.

The first thing that you notice has you approach the establishment is all the activity happening around it. Just outside its doors is a great market with all kinds of goodies that I recognized and few that i did not (but hey, some one is buying or else it wouldn't be there, lol). Just on the street side of the building is a sprawling open air seating area. I'm not talking about your 2 tables pushed up on on the under a tree on the side walk. It's full on seating outdoor where you can take in more of the sights and oddities that SF has to offer. Once you make it indoors, the volume picks up a bit because the market continues inside just behind the restaurant. You name it, it probably being sold in that market somewhere just based on the cultural melting pot that SF is. After I made it indoors, I was seated pretty quickly but that was probably because we had made a reservation. I did notice a bit of wait for those that were walk-ups, but nothing unbearable (maybe 5 minutes). The menu is online, so if you happened to have a wait, check it out on your smartphone or tablet. I opted for the: griddled buttermilk pancakes and Caggiano pecan maple sausage. What was interesting was that two of us had pancakes and they brought a thimble full of syrup, lol. These were not your regular pancakes. Just one by itself almost covered the bottom of the plate. I believe they were going to charge for additional syrup so we just made do with what we had. Now I wish they had mentioned the charge before I asked for a refill on my lemonade (2 lemonades and $9.00 USD) later I was a bit surprised. The good company of my friends made me quickly forget about it though. All in all, it was great stop for brunch and it's right where all the public transit stops or passes by, so it pretty easy to get to without driving. Side Note: Ladies in particular - there are no bathrooms inside the restaurant. You have to use the main public restrooms in the hallway and the ladies line was always very long.

The crowd of business people enjoying happy hour at the outdoor tables suggested to us the Market Bar might be a good place for an early dinner. We were delighted. The Caesar salad and mushroom ravioli were delicious, as was the carafe of pinot noir. It was fun eating outside and the atmosphere was much more sophisticated than the touristy Fisherman's Wharf.

Just got here today having flown for 10 hours, checked in to Hotel and decided to have a short wander down towards the water. Found the Ferry Building and this Bar, we were instantly made welcome. Such a brilliant bar, it felt like we were in the Bar from ‘Cheers’. The Barman who made us so welcome then introduced us to the lady who was sitting next to us. She was such a lovely lady and we had a real blast chatting to her. She left before us and the when we went to leave we were told by the Barman that she she had paid for our bottle of Wine, which we were very touched by. If she reads this ( Julie, from Florida ) please get in touch so we can thank you properly. A fantastic start to our first USA trip. 🇺🇸 Thanks

My husband and I were up early walking the Embarcadero together, we happened on the MarketBar and could not resist the patio dining which is just across from a greenspace with a farmer's market. Lots to see and great people watching. We had the Virgin Mary to start - EXCELLENT and spicy. We really over ordered because we were hungry. Best items were the frittata and pork sandwich. Service was great, attentive. First class breakfast - worth it for a special meal.

I think this place relies on passing trade based on its location and the business of the better rated restaurants in the Embarcadero. I had seafood which was only a little short of actually being unpleasant, and my partner had chicken. He said that his was OK, but it was monstrously over-priced. I ordered a hot chocolate (it was quite cold outside) but couldn't drink it because it had an awful lot of cinnamon in it (I hate cinnamon) which wasn't mentioned on the description. The service was sloppy and unfriendly. I wouldn't go back.

The variety of food at this establishment is second to none. The atmosphere was great and it did not stop there. Pricing food and coffee was also very reasonable. Combine this with the hustle and bussell of the Embarcadero competes the atmosphere.

Not only were we welcomed here, but the head waiter actually paid attention to us, offered to see what non menu options were available and was courteous throughout. He checked everything was ok, gave us good information about where to visit and want to do. We were extremely surprised at the almost total lack of this anywhere else in San Francisco. Whatever has happened to the supposedly great level of customer care of which the USA was once rightly proud? It certainly isn't there now!

We had a reservation for dinner in this restaurant. We arrived on time, the room where the restaurant's tables were located was half empty but there were a lot of people in the outside patio. We were seated and they gave us the menus then.... Nobody came. We waited for some time for our waiter to show up but he never did (there was only another waiter who brought us water). Nobody even asked if we wanted something more to drink. Time passed by and we saw that people in another table, that was seated after us and that was served by another waitress, received their drinks; the waitress even came and took their orders. Our waiter was laughing in the corner with his colleagues without even taking a look at the room. After 25 min of pointless wait we got up and left. It was not the wait per se that bothered us but the complete absence of interest of the waiters. Will not come again and we will not recommend this place to anyone we know.

Really? $8.00 for two eggs and toast??? That's it, nothing else. Ordered coffee. First cup was luke-warm, warm up wasn't any 'warmer.' Asked another server and on the 3rd try, after a long wait, finally got 'hot' coffee. Left hungry and disappointed.

I went with a business group and we had a defined menu in which the various courses were brought out. The food came out slow and was spaced out to the point where people began to get frustrated. We were hungry and essentially being teased with the food. We had deviled eggs, a flatbread type item, peppers, pork, fish, skirt steak, potatoes and veggies. There was a lot of variety but everything was just okay. On the other hand, the drinks were great and very well made. Would I go again? Sure, but I'd rather order my own food this time.

We arrived at the Ferry Building at lunchtime and wanted to eat outside. The MarketBar met our requirements. There was no wait even on a Saturday. I had the "Burger Blue" (a hamburger with a blue cheese / buttery spread; my wife had a Caesar Salad. We each had a glass of wine and shared our favorite dessert, a Creme Brulee. Total bill was about $80 including tip. A lot of patrons were ordering breakfast / brunch items that looked enticing.

As a Mainer, I’m picky about my lobster. This tarragon poached lobster was wonderful! Served in the traditional brioche roll with a small amount of tarragon aioli, its delicious: moist but not sloppy.

Great location makes it a convenient place for drinks and/of food and we’ve been here a couple of times during past few visits to San Francisco. Food was good and worth coming back but nothing to make it memorable. Service was OK, seemed to not have much of a care factor for customers possibly because of the high transitory/touristy clientele. Would go elsewhere if actively looking to book a restaurant.

Met high school classmates for a "mini-reunion" at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. We chose the MarketBar and made an 11:30 a.m. reservation for four hoping that we could beat all of the summer tourist and downtown business demand. Chose to sit inside because of The City's unusual heat wave. Shared a delicious Caesar's salad followed by a huge heirloom tomato BLT. Beverages including several Arnold Palmers perfect. Waitress very knowledgeable and interactive with our table. She took a great photo of the four of us before departing. We gave her an extra nice tip.

Horrible service and rude hostess. We had a reservation for 12:45pm and arrived at 12:30pm. I was told we would need to wait closer to our reservation to be seated despite the fact that there were several tables open on the patio which is where our reservation was for. At 12:44pm I checked back in and the hostess who seemed annoyed by me told me I needed to wait 1 minute for my reservation time which is absurd. I do not recommend nor would I spend my money there

Dined here 2 times in the last two days. 4 of us. Everything we ordered was delicious. Appetizers, entrees and desserts. We also went to another very trendy, highly acclaimed bar/restaurant with a fabulous view of the Bay Bridge. We got the best table, great waiter but the food was just okay. Food at the market bar was expertly prepared and the presentation could not have been better. Then, then there's Blue our waiter. He was extraordinary. Created a very fun, and charming atmosphere for us. A total pro who loooooooves his career.

A business associate and I went to dinner at this location on a Tuesday evening. We were seated promptly. We both had the Steak Frites, and it was great. The serving size of the Anchor Steam beer on tap was perfect, as you could have two without going over the edge. I believe our server was Donovan, and he was attentive and friendly. Great place!

The service was slow as molasses with a quarter filled dining room. The waitstaff were very chatty... with each other. The fish and chips, at 23 dollars, came with a half dish of wilted coleslaw and a handful of chips. Tasted fine, but ungenerous for the price, at lunchtime. Won't go back.

Sat down around 1030 for breakfast. My boyfriend and I ordered the French toast and the pulled pork egg and cheese sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was possibly the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. The server was very attentive. You have to ask for water refills, but I think that is a citywide thing. The French toast was good, but would prefer the breakfast sandwich if had to choose. The location was great! We were renting bikes for the golden gate bike ride to Sausalito afterwards. We rented from San Francisco bicycle rentals and they have a location right in front of the ferry building so everything was super convenient!!

We wanted to have drinks at the terrace (half empty) with our baby and the first waiter we asked told us that we could sit wherever we would like. But just a second after we took a seat I saw another waiter and waitress shaking their heads in disbelief and rolling their eyes because we took our stroller with us. With no greetings or friendly words they asked us to put the stroller away because it blocks the way. Especially the waitress was very rude and impolite, she didn't even look at us when talking. So we decided to leave. And guess what: we will never come back again!

Went there because they had high chairs (and allowed kids) and could accommodate a group of 10 without any waiting. The food was okay, the service was okay and so was the wine. Prices a little high for what is provided

I've been here a few times now - mainly due to the fact the breakfast pancakes are incredible!! I like this place because the inside seating has charm and warmth and you also have the option of sitting outside and people watch. The service has been great with the exception of one waiter who was a but surly. Definitely would recommend for breakfast.

They always have excellent service with delicious selections from their food and cocktail menus. It provides great outdoor people watching as well.

At the southwest corner of the Ferry building, lots of people watching outdoor seating as well as large bar and indoor seating. Great place to sit, drink wine and watch the unique blend of SF'ers walk, ride, jog, bike, hop, crawl, and just go by. Ordered the broccoli cheddar mac & cheese, a must have...

This seemed like a nice place for a dinner in the ferry building. The restaurant is nice, menu is somewhat limited and pricy like all San Francisco eateries. Portions were somewhat small for the entrees. The guacamole for an appetizer was excellent.

Loved their tomato salad and the grilled swordfish was also very good. These are served as part of their special 2/3 course meal, which appears to be a good deal. Staff was good, service is super quick. Good spot to sit down for a quick lunch!

A very touristy location and look was a turnoff, but we found a lovely restaurant. Prices are reasonable, a happy hour special on drinks (two marvelous draft beers @ $4.00 !) and a range of prices for entrees. The food and service were excellent. There are better restaurants in San Francisco, but this place is convenient (opposite the F-trolley), reasonably priced, clean, attractive, with very nice food. My wife even wanted to return the next night for another go at the pasta dish.

Located in the historic Ferry Building in the Embarcadero, MarketBar is a great place for lunch. It offers one of the nicest outdoor seating ares in the city with great views of the city, the Bay Bridge and you can people watch to your hearts content!

Took the ferry from Vallejo to the Ferry Building to do some Christmas shopping. We checked all the eateries and restaurants before we picked the MarketBar. One friend had the duck confit salad and said it was delicious. I shared the fish and chips. They were very good. Wait staff was attentive. Price was reasonable.

Okay, the waiter was new (had to pull out a cheat sheet with explanations of dishes when asked about them) but, importantly, his white shirt was plain filthy. I mean really filthy. Big stains under the arms etc. Not exactly appetizing. The food was great but couldn't make up for the filthy shirt. Any good manager wouldn't let that pass.

My wife and went here for happy hour and had a fabulous evening. First great location and nice view. Our waiter was amazing and the bartender really knew how to make a drink. I asked for a better tequila than was listed on menu and they made it perfect. Can’t wait to visit again All we had was chips and guacamole which was good, but food around us looked outstanding .

My wife and I had a Sunday brunch after strolling around the Ferry Building. The deviled eggs were solid. My wife loved the flat bread with asparagus and pistachios. I had the Banh mi with roast pork and pork pate, good flavor. Service was friendly. Good people watching from the patio or near the Windows.

Had dinner here recently on a Friday night and it was very enjoyable. We chose to eat inside and it was not at all crowded. The outdoor tables were mostly full. The steak and fries were delicious. Wagyu beef was very tender and the fries were crispy and seasoned well. Also had the spicy prawn flatbread which was spicy but delicious. Great spot to watch people and also the ferry terminal is a great place to shop.

We were on a California Coastal cruise on the Star Princess and one of our stops was an overnight in San Francisco. The fist day we did a hop on hop off bus but it rained all afternoon so we didn't do a lot of walking around. The next day the weather was much better. It was sunny and was condusive for walking. We did the cable car ride on the Powell & Masson line to visit the sights and the electric trolley back down to the Embarcadero where we saw the MarketBar at the Ferry Building. The 3 of us decided to have the pre fixe lunch. I had the battered smelt while my husband and our friend had the cream of brocolli soup. The smelt was delicious & crispy and came on a bed of arugulla and a side of tartar sauce. The soups got good reviews as well. For the entrees my companions had the coulette strak and I had the Seafood stew. The steaks also got good reviews. The stew was also delicious. It was tomato based with fish, clams, shrimp, chopped sweet peppers, onions & tomatoes of course. It was slightly sweet with a bit of a peppery bite. It came with 2 large slices of garlic toast. To top off lunch I had the sorbet: guava, blood orange & calamansi. Our friend had the Tre Leche cake. The desserts all got great reviews. Overall the meal was around $28-35 per person including drinks. We had taken a patio table even though there was air-conditioned interior seating. The patio was great for people watching and also for watching the colourful electric trolleys as they passed through the station. Afterword were walked back to Pier 27 where our ship was docked. A great visit to San Francisco!

Had a breakfast meeting there. The staff was very attentive and the food was good. Large terrasse is ideal to sit outside.

We ate at this restaurant for breakfast on two occasions. My husband ordered eggs Benedict on our first visit and we returned to enjoy this again another day only to be told it had been on the specials. Market Bar, please include this dish in your regular menu!

We had bagel & locks...very good! All so the French toast with infused walnuts, cranberries & sprinkled with fruit...yummy! Staff was friendly..the Mgr helped with serving food. Its convenient to the Ferry ( it's in the Ferry building). Plus you can shop while you wait!

Would definitely recommend to friends and family to come here for brunch. The ingredients were fresh and the entire meal was savory. When they brought the food out, it looked fresh and was some of the best food I've had. Service was nice and very quick. Casual environment and you can walk around in the market before and after also.

Good basic selections of food and beverage. Great place for a lunch break when in the area. Outdoor patio on a nice day makes for a pleasant mealtime and fun people watching. Loud and delightfully casual.

I love the MarketBar in the Ferry Building, and especially the sidewalk seating (weather permitting). We’ve had both Breakfast and Lunch/Brunch there, several times, but this was a visit for Breakfast, and solo, as my wife was in meetings. I had already had a couple of Breakfasts at our hotel, The Palace, and wanted a change. Since the weather was good, I headed to the MarketBar, and was not disappointed. For an October morning, my attention was drawn to the Acme Pumpkin & Walnut French Toast w/ dried cranberries and apple+current compote. The dish was perfect, and also very fitting for the season. I added the Hobbs Bacon (though the Pecan Sausage was very tempting). Service was a little slow, but even though it was early, there were quite a few diners. Still, the actual service was flawless. The French Toast was fluffy, and very tasty, and the Bacon, “crisp” to perfection. In all, another delightful meal at MarketBar, and well worth the walk from New Montgomery Street.

French brasserie style food in the Ferry terminal building. Nice ambiance, very friendly staff and a reasonably priced menu.

Located across the Embarcadero from the beginning of Market Street, this attractive restaurant/bar has generous outdoor seating with lots of umbrellas. We sat outdoors on a warm Sunday evening-- very pleasant! (except for the almost constant roar of motorcycles and other traffic on the Embarcadero!) The food was excellent, the service was fine. I did expect a more generous pour than 5 oz of the delicious French cider ($9). The 4 Scallops ($28) were absolutely delicious, as was the cup or so of mushroom/bean concoction and the sauce accompanying it. An order of outstandingly good French Fries ($5) completed the meal, which would have been too skimpy otherwise.

After walking through the Ferry Building I can across the Marketbar! Great food our server made the meal complete! His name was Chris, his recommendation for the quiche was awesome!

After being told it would be a 15 minute wait for a table (with dozens of empty tables) we probably should have left. But we sat at the bar and ordered lunch. Many people came & left while we were there - most of which being seated at tables. About 20+ minutes after ordering, the bartender said he'd ask someone to check on our lunch, and she came back to say it would be another 3-4 minutes to 'get the burger up to medium-well temp'. Another couple sat down and ordered lunch and were served in less than 10 minutes. We asked again for our lunch and the bartender said he was hesitant to 'ruffle their feathers' in the kitchen as they would sometimes lose tickets. Another 10 minutes went by and our lunch finally arrived. My sister's salad was delightful, and my burger was a cool medium rare - despite having to wait for them to get it up to the medium well temp I ordered. The bartender never apologized, or offered to make it right. No manager was available to talk to, and it seems everyone is afraid of the kitchen staff. $60+ for a burger & salad and 2 beers would have been about par for this area, but hard to swallow for sub-par food. Maybe this restaurant needs to consider replacing their 'cook' with a competent chef and adding a manager.

Always fun to come here to check out the locals as well as the tourists! And we always make reservations because this place is always packed. Food is always so fresh and delicious----tried the Grilled Chicken & Farmers' Market Grape Salad last time and it was so yummy and heavenly. Full of fresh greens and the pomegranate gives it the added distinctive flavor. But alas, our server was on the forgetful side---she forgot the hot tea until much later, and when asked for a refill, she was happy to do it but forgot to come back with it until we were ready with the check.

the only place with seating in the ferry building at lunchtime... we were given a table on the terrace and waited for 20 minutes for the server...when he arrived he must have just finished his own lunch as when he spoke i was sprayed with bits of food...we ordered he went away ...brought our drinks back and stood talking to another table that were seated after us and delivered their drinks first. food arrived risotto contained coriander but there is no mention of it on the menu...so that dish was ruined...the tuna on the nicoisse was undercooked..for me...i asked to return it...and was told thats how it comes?!! $70 for 2 meals and 2 beers.

Good not great food and fast and great location at the pier. It is located right next to farmers market on weekend so good voyeur spot

Had a lovely glass of wine from a really nice selection of wines by the glass and also some terrific chips and guacamole. A really nice spot to stop and chill for a bit after walking around the Ferry Building and its environs. Didn't stay for dinner as we had reservations elsewhere, but good service and the food we saw on the neighboring tables looked appetizing. Tables were filling up for dinner, so ambiance pleasant and cheerful.

Went here with ten colleagues. Found the service slow and the waiter a bit goofy. Portions are small and menu is limited. Place was way too noisy for a business dinner. Would not go again for work or personal. Didn't rate lower because the food was prompt and tasted fine.

We stopped in to the ferry building for lunch, and were disappointed to find most eateries serving either casual to-go food, and / or a very narrow specialty menu. Our last try was Market Bar on the Embarcadero side of the ferry building (no bay view). The staff was very friendly (with table service), and the menu quite broad. We thoroughly enjoyed our tasty entrees, and even had desserts which were unique in taste and presentation. Our meal was capped off by a half-price bottle of our favorite Chardonnay. This wasn’t exactly a businessman’s luncheon, but did the job for us tourists!

Very pleasant spot for a nice casual lunch.Good menu with something for everyone. It is also kid friendly

We stumbled on this restaurant by pure accident. Originally planning to visit the much vaunted foodie heaven of The Ferry Building we turned up at 8.00pm when everything, well almost everything was shut. There was the much praised Slanting Door restaurant which had a queue almost into the Bay, and Hugo's Oyster Bar which had another queue almost as long. That left us uncertain what to do so we decided to try the only other restaurant open at the building, Market Bar. What a joy! We decided to opt for a few appetisers rather than two main courses, so we selected a medley of marinated vegetables, house made guacamole, mini burgers and carpaccio of tuna. All were amazing, particularly raw tuna. Clearly all the food had been freshly prepared that day. We decided to have a carafe of the cheapest red wine, happily recommended by our attentive waiter, which was a local Pinot noir, very smooth and complemented the dishes really well. The best came last and that was a selection of three sorbets, water melon, blackberry, and Asian pear - each one was stunning. We would happily return.

Celebrated a long time reunion here with a hearty brunch. Whilst my scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked, my companions burgers were...well...hearty! Our server could not have been nicer and more efficient. Sometimes you just know that a waiter is not just being pleasant for the sake of it, but this guy obviously enjoyes his job. I regret not noting his name. Highly recommended!

Just got off a plane from Vegas and needed breakfast done right. This place hit the mark. Quality food. Quality coffee. Attentive service. I had Blueberry cream cheese coffee cake. Amazing. I kept it simple for breakfast - 2 eggs over easy with the Hobbs bacon served with Sourdough. Really great stuff. I sat outside and took in the sights and sounds of SF while dining. Truly a great experience. I will be back and I will recommend.

Stopped by on a Sunday for lunch, and ordered off of the brunch menu. The smoked salmon bruchetta was very tasty, with tender salmon, tangy goat cheese, plump briney capers and paper-thin red onion. Delish. The iced tea was great, freshly brewed with a touch of mango flavor-yum. For the quality of the food, the prices were in line with what I have found elsewhere in the city.

Fresh local asparagus omelets, fresh strawberry spread made in house, great service, good prices. Love their commitment to local foods!

Located at the historic ferry building, this venue offers a wonderful outdoor patio people viewing experience. The food is good and the menu interesting. It is a nice place to brunch. The service is excellent and the bar is well stocked. If you like being where there is a crowd you may enjoy MarketBar. A little pricey but reasonable.

Outside the Ferry Building overlooking the Embarcadero, given it location we were expecting this to be a lot more tourist trap. The food was excellent and fitted well with the seasonal market produce.

Had a late lunch here and the service was very slow despite there being very few people in the restaurant. Food was okay and drinks were fine. Nothing special. Probably would try a different restaurant next time.

Stopped here a couple of times for an afternoon beer and bar snacks on a recent trip to SF. Happy Hour specials are good value and the service was great.

We went to this place as the time we arrived on a Sunday morning not all the eating places were open yet. Stop and wait. Service was bad, food was pretty mediocre and I felt rushed. It was warm inside. That was th best part. Won't go here again.

Located in the great market Embarcadero, with amazing food. The smoked salmon bruschetta is delicious, but the fruit bow with granola and yogurt is just to die for. We had an amazing brunch with lots of bellinis!!

We grabbed food here after a busy day of sightseeing and really enjoyed the meal. Everything was very good, and the prices seemed reasonable (for SF, anyhow). The guac, salads, fish, pasta and pizza all hit the spot, and the cookies for dessert were excellent. While not as artsy as some other restaurants in the city, MarketBar is a solid choice for good, basic food. Recommended.

I was in San Francisco on business and with some time to kill before flying out I went in search of the sights. The mass transportation system, BART, makes it so easy to get around that I went from the airport to the downtown, specifically the Embarcadero. Looking for a meal before my flight I wandered into the Market Bar...a great decision. It was a great day to eat outside do I found a good table overlooking the Embarcadero. My very knowledgeable server, Donovan, steered me in the direction of the special pre fixe menu options...and I was very glad he did. I selected the steamed mussel appetizer and the medallions of venison entree...two great choices. I'm not much of a food critic but this meal was outstanding, combined with a friendly, attentive server made my visit a great one. I will be back to both San Francisco and the Market Bar.

Had lunch on Beautiful sunny day. Sitting outside is a must, as long as the sky is blue. The food is very good, tasty and good portion/value. The service is good, because of its location this place is busy, very busy indeed. So the service is a little slow, but nothing close to being annoying. Very recommended!

Ate there earlier this week and was very disappointed in our meals. The Mahi was dry. Chicken had good flavor but was tough to cut and chew.

The service, ambiance and food were all great. We were seated and served very quickly considering how busy it was. There seemed to be a good mix of business meetings and tourists enjoying their lunch. I would recommend the clam chowder and the chicken pot pie looked amazing.

We stopped in for afternoon drinks and appetizers and were seated immediately at one of the outdoor tables. Our server was efficient and pleasant. We ordered the guacamole with chips and the roasted Shishito peppers. The peppers were very good and the guacamole, though on the small side, was excellent. Within 30 minutes, the sun dipped behind the buildings and the temperature quickly dropped. Plus, the Embarcadero creates a slight wind tunnel effect making the faster-moving air feel colder. The next time in SF and in the area we would return. But, if the same time of year, we would go earlier in the day to maximize the sun or opt to sit inside.

Just enjoyed a perfect breakfast/brunch at Market Bar on the south end of the Ferry Building on the embarcadero . We sipped their tasty Frisco Bloody Marys to celebrate the start of a sunny Saturday . I ordered the roast vegetable omelette with fontina - a simple omelette can sometimes proof just too difficult to the amateur (or absent minded)chef, but this one was savory and delicious. No heavy goopy cheese- just the right amount. And the roasted vegetables were delectable. My son ordered the farmer’s breakfast plate - two poached eggs on a white bean purée with avocado, salsa , and crispy pork belly. Best pork belly I have ever tasted. ( I was lucky my son shared a bit with me) and a plate full of fresh, delicious food. He ate it before I had a chance to take a picture! I highly recommend Market Bar. It’s great for any meal.

Pompous place bad service. Waited to be seated bumped out of way by bus boy then when the host returned he sat another table that arrived after us, when my wife told him this he smiled and said yes he knew with no apology. Thanks for saving me a hundred bucks. Get some manners.

Lovely to sit outside under a large umbrella on a sunny day in SF! However, given the traffic on The Embarcadero it is also very noisy with buses, etc. But there is good people watching! Varied menu but fish and chips had an off taste and soup was served lukewarm. Not a place one should visit for outstanding food but worth a trip for the ambience of the city and the bay. Staff was so-so, not exactly responsive but pleasant enough. If you are looking for a sit down restaurant at the Ferry Building The Slanted Door would be a better choice.

I've been to this restaurant on several occasions and always leave a little underwhelmed. The location and setting always invites me back despite the pricey and limited menu. First, the staff seems to be friendly and caring which is a plus. The outdoor dining area is nice, but loud and with lot's of nearby pedestrian traffic, vendors and smells. The menu seemed limited or missing something with offerings such as fresh oysters or a burger with peppers, but little in between. The prices are high, but the location may be the factor. We stopped in for Bloody Mary's on a Saturday and were again somewhat displeased with a basic drink with olives for $11. I'm not a complainer, just expected a bit more which they could offer with a little effort. With the people traffic generated by the Ferry Building, maybe this is good enough.

I recently visited a spa at a hotel across from the Ferry Building on a Saturday and most of the places I wanted to go for lunch were closed. So, I ended up at the MarketBar in the Ferry Building. Since it was before noon, we were given the brunch menu. The service was pretty fast considering how crowded the restaurant was. We were all sitting inside because it was a rainy day. The food was pretty good, although I felt the toast was really hard. I ordered an omelette which was good but not great. I would say the draw for this place is its location (especially for tourists) and not its great food.

We made our second trip to MarketBar for Brunch over Labor Day weekend. The weather was nice so we opted to eat outside, which was shaded as the sun was on the other side of the ferry building. Two in our party opted for the soft scrambled eggs and one had the late summer beggars banquet, which consisted of heirloom tomato gazpacho accompanied by brie cheese (which was a bit small of a portion--the only minor complaint), bread and grapes. The food was delicious and the service was spot-on. We expected less because of the touristy location, but were not disappointed. Both times we have visited for brunch we have eaten outside. The inside looks inviting, and would make a nice option if the weather is not cooperating.

On our last night in San Francisco, my cousin who was on a business trip from Chicago suggested dining at the Ferry Building. This proved to be an extraordinary experience although there are so many restaurants to choose from in this city. The ambience reminded us of a cosy French brasserie and the menu choices made use of seasonal products. The range of drinks and cocktails was extensive, so we just had to try some of them. The menu of the day consisted of Manila clams for the first course, venison medallions for the main course and a delicious dessert, the name of which I could not remember. The food was excellent and the French influence in its preparation was distinctive. On top of that the friendly and helpful service completed the overall high level of evaluation of this restaurant. The bill for 4 people was around 220 USD, which was good value considering the quality of food and service. Moreover, the Ferry building where the restaurant is located, is a tourist attraction in itself both from the outside and inside. You can easily use an hour or two looking for souvenirs in the interesting specialty boutiques and markets selling gourmet products.

delicious lunch with a family group. Fav a bean flat bread was yummy . I had a gorgeous chicken peach salad. Lots of flavor. Out on terrace. Quick friendly service

I mean...seriously...this location cannot be beat. If you are looking for a fun, tourist friendly bar in the heart of the SF Embarcadero this is your place. I was here on business and met some local colleagues here for happy hour. The bartender was knowledgeable though not overly attentive. Decent Happy Hour prices, good vibe, lots of young professionals meeting for drinks after work. large patio. Order the streetcar cocktail! It's like a mojito but with Gin. Yuuuummmm....

Ok, I pay hundreds of dollars for good food and I am fine with it but I paid $40 for a food here and still bothers me. It was bad and I don’t think it even costed them $2 for the food they brought us. We ordered an eggs and salad. It was a plate of two eggs with one toast and a plate of salad. It was only a hand full of salad. They should be so ashamed of themselves for charging that much. I paid $380 at the Hyatt hotel last couple of days and I loved it but still that $40 bothers me. NEVER GO BACK AND NEVER FORGET IT I wish I took a pic of the food which was almost empty plate

Great location, excellent service, homemade pasta delish! Wine average (especially after coming from a week in Sonoma) and slightly pricey but, that's San Fran! Good for people-watching. A good, value experience. Enjoy!

I recommend Marketbar for casual American dining in the Ferry Building. The service is great. Sometimes I stop here for a drink before my ferry leaves for the north bay. I love the seafood and appreciate how often they change up their menu. Excellent location and a relaxing experience. As a local I come here often.

Non existent service. The hostess told us to sit outside and she will bring the menu. The place was very busy. We did find a table which had not being cleaned yet. It took 15 minutes to clean the table and another ten to bring t he menus. No one can back to take our order. We just got up and left.

We almost cancelled our table because we wanted to look at the ocean and bridge but instead decided to keep it. We immediately were drawn to the specials and took the advice of the great staff to look at the fish tacos, corn soup, and oysters. They all were great choices! We were able to finish out meal and take a walk to enjoy the scenery!

The food and wine are so-so at best, so don't expect your san fran culinary experience here, but its a nice place to sit outside on a beautiful evening. It had been years since I had been there. I recalled it being much better about 4 years ago. Also, reservations are for inside only and its about claiming a spot outside if you can grab one.

Nice location, very friendly and competent staff, decent menu, outdoor dining at the Ferry building, great place for s Sunday brunch.

We ate Sunday brunch here, the food was just ok but the service was dire! We only saw our waitress when we paid the bill and she collected her tip! Very disappointed!

Husband and I joined another couple for appetizers and drinks at the Ferry Building. Sat outside, enjoyed the sun, the breeze, the hustle and bustle of the Embarcadero. Outside area quickly filled up, so we were glad we arrived before a rush of customers. We had drinks; beer for the guys, prosecco for the girls. We enjoyed flatbreads, (house cured pancetta and arugula, also summer squash and feta), as well as plate of artisanal cheese. Food was good, service was okay, attentive yet not intrusive. Fun way to spend time catching up with old friends over snacks and drinks outside on a summer afternoon.

During our visit the weather was nice so we could sit outside. The service was rather slow and the kitchen never got one of our orders in. At least the server apologized. The food was very good, I liked my linguine.

From start to finish we had a very pleasant experience. Our server, Adam, was attentive and quick to help with suggestions. We started with a very good flat bread. It had pancetta, arugula and chile flakes. For me it had just the right amount of heat to it. Then both of us ordered the same entree, the short ribs. It was served boneless and was tender enough to cut with a fork. The accompanying vegetables were perfection. We ended with dessert. For my friend, the pineapple upside down cake. It was very traditional and delicious. I had the key lime pie. It had great lime flavor and was one of the best I've ever had. A return visit is surely in order.

Though the blackcurrant margarita was very good, the prices at this center of town bar are a bit exaggerated.

We had a very disappointing experience during the recent holiday break. We went there for brunch as a family. We were seated on time but the service was simply very poor. We kept having to ask for stuff multiple times including the basics such as water. And the restaurant was not full so it was not a case of having a full house with limited staff. It felt more that our waiter was simply not through and rigorous. Another example is that my sion asked for what the fish of the day was and he simply replied "it is tuna" - my son asked to clarify what is was served with and he said "it is good, don't worry" - but when the meal arrived it was actually a pasta dish with tuna in the sauce. A very different experience.... Would definitively not return

We sat outside on a Sunday afternoon and had beer and nachos. Nice setting in the sun despite the street and pleasant food & drinks.

I've walked by this place a number of times and finally decide to try it for lunch. I generally walk around in a pair of comfortable old jeans and running shoes, and I guess the manager disapproved. He gave me an obvious once-over when I walked in (couldn't help but think of Mr. Carson on Downton Abbey) but seated me right away. After that, though, I had to wait a long time to have my order taken. Then I had to wait a long time for my food. I ordered the Garden Salad, which was good but way too big for one person, and the Spicy Italian Panino (hint to management: panini is plural) which was rather skimpy. It was good, but there wasn't much between the bread. The "house-made giardineria" that came with the sandwich was also skimpy, and way dried out. The wine I ordered was poured out of a bottle that was sitting, lightly corked, on the back of the bar. I saw the server pull the cork out and wondered how long ago it had been opened. After one sip I called him back and asked to have something that had been opened that day. Hey, for $12 a glass I want something good. After that the server was mostly elsewhere until he walked by and dropped the bill off. This was a great place to sit and people-watch, but it was over-priced, the food was average, and the service bordered on poor. I probably won't go back.

The host was really short with us and had an attitude. The waiter, probably overworked, was a bit snarky, but as the meal progressed (closer to tip time), loosened up and was actually really helpful. I will give him the benefit of the doubt to say it doesn't see like they had enough servers. We chose this place because it appeared to be the only place in the Ferry building farmer's market that had a sit down breakfast.

I don't want to jump the gun here, but I think I had a racist experience here. I and a friend went to this awful place on the 4th of July in the evening for some drinks. We sat outside and the waitress got the menu. We ordered the drinks. It seemed like the waitress didn't really want to serve us. She didn't ask if we want anything else and just walked away. I called her back to place the food order. And the moment we finished our food and drinks, she got the check. We didn't ask for it, neither did we show any signs that we are done. We were definitely going to order one more round of drinks. I thought maybe they're closing and that's the reason for the hurry. I asked her if they are closing now. And she said 'Very soon' with a sheepish smile. This was around 6-7pm. I let it go and were sitting at the table after signing the check and adding the tip. Then another waiter came and said 'Do you guys want to go inside or something? Are you done here?' It wasn't rude, but it seemed like they didn't want us there. And then I asked him about their closing time. And he clearly said that they close around 9 pm. I was shocked to hear this. The waitress clearly lied to us. I asked him why were we told that you are closing soon. He didn't even have the courtesy to reply to that question and ignored it. That moment we stood up and left from there. I thought a lot about this incident over the weekend. I've never felt this insulted in my life and it's shocking to see such a business thriving in the middle of San Francisco. I regret the tip that I left and should have changed it back to 0 before leaving. These people are terrible. Don't even bother going here.

MarketBar at Ferry Station in SanFrancisco has it all, well almost everything. Great location, perfect for Saturday brunch after shopping at the Farmers Market. Great food and drinks. Service was lacking when I was just there. Hostess was pleasant but never checked us in (reservation was made on Open Table). Waiter took our order, got it all correct but never smiled or engaged us in conversation. He went thru the motions but not enthusiastically. That won't stop me from going back. Open air or inside dinning. Pets welcome. Reservations didn't seem to be needed.

A friend and I had dinner here on Halloween. Outside of a couple of women in red tutus at the bar, there was little sign of the holiday, which was helpful for us to catch up on 10 years. I think I've seen this restaurant with few people in it before, but I don't know why this is. The food is good, and the service is excellent. The place is on the waterfront in San Francisco, is quiet enough to talk (!!!), and the wines are good. So far, it's easy to get reservations, so if you want a place to eat that is good by San Francisco standards but doesn't require 6 months advance notice and is easy to get to, try Marketbar.

Been here a few times now and I have never left dissappointed. It is young, hip, casual, full of energy and a great California vibe. Love the bar, the food, the whole package here. Wait staff has always been great and more than willing to go off menu for something special so long as they have it. If visiting SF for a weekend, I would definately put MarketBar on your list of must stop places. If you are looking for a great place to get a drink, think about Comstock Bar; but if you want the whole package, drinks and a great dinner, it's hard to beat MarketBar.

Pros: When I visited, the restaurant was quiet, even though it was a weekend, so I was able to get a seat outside. There are umbrellas if you don't want to be too much in the sun. The service was very attentive and the waiters were very friendly. I was quickly brought water and a menu. The food (scrambled eggs with tomatoes, potatoes, sausages and toast) was delicious, as was the fresh lemonade I had with it. The eggs and the sourdough toast were particularly good. The serving size of the eggs is also good - I think there were probably 3 eggs in the serve. Cons: The food was a little cooled down by the time it got to me. Not cold, but the outside parts were lukewarm. It wasn't cheap. For the meal and lemonade, it was more then $20 dollars.

On a sunny day, this is the perfect San Francisco restaurant. Lovely cocktails and great food not to mention perfect people watching.

We had a nice breakfast. Eggs and bacon were prepared as requested. The yogurt parfait was very nice. They also had the best coffee that we had in SF!

wandering around the ferry building this seemed the best place for lunch lovely salad and a coffee , sitting out side people watching

The food and atmosphere were fine, but they do not have their own restrooms. If you need those amenities, you have to leave the restaurant and stand in the potentially very long line of the public restrooms that serve the Ferry Building.

Great place for brunch and sit outside and watch the people . You can stay as long as you want and chat with your friends and plan the rest of your day. Food is very good plus great service

Great little spot to sit outside under an umbrella and enjoy breakfast/lunch before or after exploring the Ferry Building and surrounding sites.

Located inside the Ferry building with a large outside patio perfect for people watching, it is a wonderful spot for breakfast, lunch or brunch. The menu is unique and the service is excellent. The outside patio is a nice place for those of you who have a pet dog. Great for locals and tourists.

We specifically came into the city to meet family for lunch. We decided the Ferry Marketplace was a good place to meet and then find a place to grab lunch for our group of 4. As expected, it was very very busy with lines everywhere. I missed the fact that it was a Tuesday and there was Farmers Market going on, which in hindsight would have been a great option to grab lunch at one of the various stands. But, we were able to be seated immediately on the patio in front of the Market Bar. We had eaten here a few months back and had no worries. We expected a decent lunch experience. At this point their patio was just opening, but they sat us immediately. The best part of this experience was our "bus boy". He was extremely friendly, got us waters, got our table organized, and stopped by several times to say he was looking for our waiter. He did everything he could but actually serve our table. Brought us the menus which weren't delivered when were seated etc... Well...it was a good 10 minutes before our first contact with the waiter. This should have been a warning sign to get up and go elsewhere. But we stuck it out. Turns out this wasn't our waiter, but another waiter who took our drink orders. The drinks came pretty quickly, but then another 10 minutes passed before our waiter came by. He quickly took our order and then disappeared. I'm going to estimate it was another 15 minutes before the food arrived. The food was good, no question on that. And the setting is nice out on the patio in front of the Ferry Building, yet somewhat protected from all the goings on around this area. Our bus boy was again doing great, cleaning up the table, keeping our water glasses going, etc... Finally I waved down our waiter and got our billl. By this time most of my family had to bug out due to the need to get back to work etc..... This isn't a low cost lunch option. The food is good, and the setting is nice. But at least on this visit, the service was so SLOW and Bad. Next time I'm down here, this won't be one of my options. Hope you find it better.

My wife and I always make at least one stop at MarketBar when we're in San Francisco. The ingredients are fresh. The preparation is consistently good. Service is top notch. And there's great "people watching" in the outdoor seating area. For my Celiac wife, their care with gluten-free items is very much appreciated. On this particular day, for a late breakfast, I had an excellent roasted summer squash omelette. Their wines by the glass are good quality as well.

A really great option if you want to sit down in a proper restaurant with great wait staff and fantastic food. I was drawn back to the Ferry Building and subsequently the MarketBar two days in a row. Did not disappoint .

We stopped at the ferry building at the end of a tour of the city and had lunch at the Market Bar before hiking down to the alcatraz pier. It was a bit of a walk. But the food here was very good. We had the fried haddock, the lobster roll and the steak frites. The ferry building was a nice place for a short stop too.

I had the Daily Ground Market Burger and my wife had the House-Cured Ahi Tuna Salad Sandwich. had to be one of the best lunches i had, the place is pricey and the staff is not the friendliest (Why i took away 1 star) but food was excellent

Wife and I had dinner on a Monday night. Since it was very chilly outside, we ate our dinner inside. The food was very good and the waitress was so nice and helpful.

Went on hotels recommendation and pleasantly surprised. Branzino a rare dind was excellent and King Salmon was exceptional. Vegetarian in the group was happy with the pasta offering . Can't complain about a single thing.

The food was better than I had expected. Flatbreads (both asparagus and pancetta) were very good. Crispy crust and flavorful toppings. Corned beef sandwich with macaroni salad was also good. My only complaint would be the prices. It did not seem like a good buy.

our group included an elderly member, men & women and we all enjoyed our meal together and each found something to enjoy on the menu - the deviled egg appetizers are a treat, the cheese plate was better than expected & the branzino was prepared very well ! Best of all the staff served us attentively and patiently even though we all arrived at slightly different times and lingered over our dinner til near close !

Singularly the rudest server I have encountered in San Francisco. Apparently "attitude" is included in the menu without being listed as an option. Too much competition in this city to offer that.

Situated in the rather touristy waterfront Ferry Building, we both enjoyed the Fish n chips. The best part was the "Upside Down" cake for dessert. Never had that before and it was fun. It wasn't crowded when we were there - so not noisy. Service was friendly and quick.

I ordered banana bread, applewood bacon and roasted potatoes. The banana bread was very moist and sweet. It was served with butter. The roasted potatoes were the best and easily could have served 2-3 people. The were crisp and garlicky on the outside and soft on the inside. Perfect. The other diner at our table had the Market omelet. It looked very good also.

I stopped for lunch and wanted some clam chowder so I ordered the "beggars banquet". It was the perfect way to sample the fresh tastes San Francisco had to offer. My meal came with delicious soft cheese and market fruit. I also had a glass of their incredible lemonade. The whole meal was light and refreshing and was a great way to spend the afternoon on the bay. After my lunch I went through the market in the ferry building and then went back to my hotel satisfied and well shopped. Perfect way to spend my first day in San Francisco.

My husband and I were visiting San Francisco for the first time and stopped at the patio at the MarketBar for lunch. The prices for lunch were somewhat high and the food quality low. My husband had the fish and chips which were just okay and I had the grilled chicken salad which was dry and flavourless. We both left wishing we had chosen somewhere else to eat.

Spent 1 day in San Fra and had breakfast at this place right on the bay. Nice service, good food, great location. Would recommend this place

Missed my ferry & needed to kill time! Wanted a cocktail & a light appetizer. The Shrimp Pizzaretta is out of this work. The crust so light, the Shrimp plentiful & cooked just right. But wait. This wonderful creation has a mighty kick. It's just like heaven for a nurse like me -- waiting for a ferry home on a Friday night!

While working downtown, I had the opportunity to visit MarketBar several times. both at the beginning and end of the day. For a businessperson's breakfast and the chance to talk quietly, it's a good spot - quiet and out of the hustle-bustle. It's also fun to sit outside for drinks and watch the world go by.

Tasty food, pretty good service, nice outdoor dining area. We had a brunch meal, not inexpensive for what you get, but we enjoyed our meals and were well taken care of by the servers. I'm not sure it's a place I would seek out, but if you're spending the day down at the waterfront along the Embarcadero and you want a meal and dining experience that's a notch above many of the

Located in the old ferry building which has been renovated into many upscale shops, the MarketBar is a good place to get away from shopping for an early morning Bloody Mary or a light lunch! I've eaten there several times and the food is fantastic!

Went here for the second time to have lunch on Sunday, but after sitting down we realized that they were only serving brunch. They did have a few options if you didn't want bruch, but the menu is not that large. Anyway, hubby had a summer squash omlette which was not that large, but he said was good. It was served with 3 pieces of a chicken/nut/apple sausage which was quite good. I had a Caesar salad with grilled chicken, good, especially the grated cheese on top. It was all very fresh and tasty. The prices are what you'd expect in SF, not too high, but about average. Service was good at first and then our waiter disappeared. Sitting outside is nice, but there was a man in a wheelchair who was on the curb blasting loud music and when we asked about him the waiter said he is there on and off. He eventually went away and it was much nicer. Last time we were here for lunch and it was quite good. Don't try to park down near it on the embarcadero though, take public transportation if possible.

After traipsing around the market for an hour or so we decided to call in here and have 'Brunch'. We elected to eat outside and watch the world go and enjoy the balmy sunshine. Our waiter was quick to attend to us and we asked for a bottle of still water whilst we looked over the menu, he arrived a short time later with a bottle of sparkling water and had to return to fetch still water, not a good start. We both ordered the scrambled eggs, with tomatoes, and one with bacon, the other with sausage. When the meals arrived the eggs were most definitely not scrambled but resembled a chopped up omelette contained the said tomatoes. Not only that, but the whole meal was cold. When the waiter came and asked if our meal was okay; I told him that the eggs were not scrambled and resembled a tomato omelette and that the meal was cold. He stroppily replied that the eggs were scrambled and that was how they came, and immediately left stating he would bring the manager. He returned a short time later with our bill for just the one meal. Whilst I had complained on behalf of my wife too. I was in no mind to pursue the matter and we left in search of better service and food.

Really loved this place. I am visiting San Francisco with my wife, and we gave Marketbar a try while we were on the Embarcadero. The seafood was delicious. I love the oysters and the salmon. Really enjoyed the wine as well. The outdoor patio was perfect on a sunny day. The prices were really reasonable and the service was not bad at all. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone traveling who wants to eat seafood on the Embarcadero, in the ferry building, near downtown.

Had lunch here on a Saturday with a group of 4. We're able to get a table on the patio which sits against the Embarcadero. Your right next to the sidewalk and road, so good for watching people. Given it was a Saturday you also have farmers market going on. The service was very good. Both the hostess, our server, and the guys doing water etc...were right on the job with solid service. They had their brunch menu going. A tad limited for me. The rest of party enjoyed their meal. I had their burger which was very good. The fries were also quite good, nice and crispy. It is pricey. Expected given the location. Afterward I wished we had eaten at the farmer market food booths. But for a spot here and a patio table, was fine. So location is what it is. The service was solid, food was good, not special. Value is medium as it's pricey. Enjoy!

Located at the end of the Ferry Bldg, it’s the perfect place for lunch or dinner. Outside seating on the patio is great for people watching, and the cozy dining room inside has a nice view of the Bay Bridge lights. We ordered several shared items, and every dish was awesome – really loved the deviled eggs, pancetta/arugula flatbread, asparagus and black truffle penne pasta, and the Romaine wedge salad. Would definitely recommend and plan to go back!

I've been to MarketBar many times. They have great seating outside the restaurant and it's a wonderful place to have drinks with friends. It's right near the waterfront so the location is terrific and the service is good. If the restaurant were in a city other than San Francisco, I would think it was excellent. Unfortunately, I don't think it's quite comparable to some of San Francisco's better restaurants. It's perhaps not the most vegan-friendly either.

Pacific salmon entree after a dozen oysters and drinks. Sat in the open area street side. Very nice. In view of Bay Bridge and Pier 2.

Had drinks and snacks one evening with a friend. Managed to grab the last 2 seats at the bar and after 5.30pm it became very busy. Happy hour drinks prices are very reasonable and there is a good selection available. Food from the normal menu, is average. Smaller portions, pricey and not the best quality considering the fresh produce which is available. Would go back for drinks but not for food.

Had brunch here today. Excellent omelettes and Ahi tuna sandwich. Salad greens perfectly dressed. Fun, casual atmosphere in a great location on the Embarcadero.

Great place for getting together with friends for food and drink. Very intimate indoor seating with space for larger groups (6-18 people). The outdoor seating is great for enjoying the San Francisco scene and people watching. We had an early Saturday dinner and it was not crowded. The food was good American cuisine, but not great. The mussels were good.

We had wonderful food but the waiter was so overly smarmy and hyped up that it wasn't relaxing or genuine. Shame ... We have had great experiences there on other occasions.
Good Brunch for New Year's Day
My wife likes this place and we decided to meet some friends for brunch on New Year's day. My wife usually has their quiche which has no crust, but decided to try the soup of the day the time, an clam chowder. She said is was fine, but she did not like it as well as the quiche. I ordered the quiche along with one of my friends and we both enjoyed it throughly. My other friend ordered their soft-scrambled eggs. He thought they were more of a hard-scrambled, but ate them any way. I had the hot chocolate, which was great and not Ghirardelli. Unfortunately, I do not recall the name.
