Prime Rib melted in my mouth.

By Jane P |

Oh my goodness. The prime rib was to die for. So tender, melted in my mouth and tasted wonderful. They cooked it just right, medium rare. I had to leave some on my plate which I hated to do but I was too full. It was only $18.99 and we got a large salad, baked potato and their veggie of the day. And to finish our meal off they served us Cherries Julibee for desert which also to die for. Wish they were closer. For you that like Oxtail Soup that is their specialty and a lot of people were ordering that. I believe they serve it until they run out and maybe just at certain times. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is inside the California Hotel in downtown Vegas. Get there early so you don't have to wait in a long line.

Delicious Oxtail Soup

By Creighton C |

The oxtail soup is one of the specialty items and quite popular. If you have a package deal at the California Hotel and Casino you get 3 meals/per day included with the package. You can use the dinner coupon +$3 and get a delicious meal of oxtail soup. It comes with ginger and a lot of chinese parsley. Back here in Hawaii, oxtail soup ranges from $14 to $18 and is not at good as the Market Street Cafe.

SERVER VenessaM 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

By El S |

We come here often for the oxtail, food is good just the server she’s so unwelcoming we feel she don’t wanna serve us she’s in a hurry to take the order she don’t even take notes and came out order wrong and incomplete and so late too we ask her then she gave us an attitude. She forgot the fries we end up cancelling it we don’t wanna wait another 30mins ,she forgot ginger&cilantro for the oxtail and she never come back , the egg is over hard and forgot steam rice too. She don’t even give the bill the hostess gave it to us. I understand it’s busy but that’s your job so do it right because we pay for our meal. It’s just sad because we didn’t enjoy the meal because of that.

Stale, Old, Reheated French Fries and borderline Cold Chili Served here...

By larilu |

On a recent weekday afternoon, during a busy, lunch hour, I sat at the counter inside the Market Street Cafe and ordered the Patty Melt and a bowl of Zippy's Chili. In all fairness the Patty Melt was good, however, the fries that were served with it were definitely re- heated, old and stale, far from the meaning fresh. it was obvious they did not want to throw them out and save money by trying to pass them off to a paying customer. There is NO way the chef who plated these fries did not know they were old and inedible. Well it did not work, instead they lost a customer. The Chili was also not served at the proper temperature, and after I was served my waitress was gone and nowhere to be found, at least the bus person was able to fill my water. Overall a poor experience, with simply poor food, Thus the Overall rating of POOR!

Great Value

By Jerry S |

Just flew into town and dropped in. Planned to eat at the deli but forgot it closed. Quick seating, friendly staff, clean and decent food selection. With drink and all you can eat a great meal at well under $10.

Best food in Downtown Vegas

Pleasant Surprise

By mike f |

We were looking for a cheap meal, but the prime rib dinner was as good as any we have had and for a great price. The server was very friendly and attentive. The free desert was a nice touch.

Photos added. Another great visit at The Cal!

By NitroDog |

I had a BLT Sandwich and my wife had a fish dish. Her meal came with the salad bar, baked potato and veggies. Very friendly service. Photos added and I will return.

What a Vegas restaurant should be

By Dan S |

Ate here several times on our recent 7 day Vegas trip. This is what a Vegas restaurant should be. Good to great food, wide variety of menu choices, great prices, open 24 hours, good staff, friendly quick service, breakfast available any time, daily specials and good late night specials. Just love this place don’t ever change a thing! Bonus most menu items can be ordered take out if you want to eat in your hotel instead. Every meal we had was good, some were great. Prices are super reasonable. Gets very busy around 6-7pm and late night also sometimes. But moves pretty quick, one night was about 20 ahead of us but still only a 10 minute wait.

Fantastic food, service and value. Highly recommend.

By Rex B |

When we first approached this place, I was wary that it might be "cafeteria" quality food. It most definitely is not. The food is wonderful, service is fast and friendly, and it is an amazing value. I had the $9.99 prime rib and my wife had the $11.99 mahi mahi. Both came with the salad bar, which is great all by itself. The servings were substantial, plenty of food, fresh and flavorful. Our total bill was about $24 for 2 excellent meals. Wow. I highly recommend this place.

Great prices, but service was not great and neither was the prime rib.

By HeavilyMeditated |

We went here for the cheap prime rib, as it was rated as one of the best of the cheap prime rib places in the area. It was not. We liked that it included a nice salad bar, and cherries jubilee for desert. But when I ordered wine and a beer, I was told I had to go get it myself from the casino bar, which is way across the whole casino. The meat was okay, but we've had better cheap prime rib dinners at Tony Roma's. The service was almost non-existent. Nice enough waitress, but it took forever to get our food.

Nothing Special

By Yoda316 |

Ate here with friends. Husband had Prime Rib and I ordered Loco Moco. We also had appetizers… had Wings and Korean Short Ribs. Prime Rib didn’t have much flavor… was simply a slab of meat. Moco Loco was nothing like what we get in Hawaii. My favorite was the Korean Short Ribs, they would be a 5 in my book!

Meh

By Leigh D |

We had the breakfast buffet. It's $6.25 per person and it was nothing remarkable. It was like canned corn beef hash and the typical hotel eggs (not even sure they are real eggs). The staff were nice and attentive. We weren't impressed with the food or coffee.

MARKET STREET CAFE IN THE CAL CASINO IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

By T1133ATclaireh |

Good family restaurant. Salad bar. Good value. Line for a table gets backed up during meal time hours. Service is rather slow.

Ox tail soup!

By Kittygal 🇺🇦 🌻 |

A late night favorite of mine. So savory and full of flavor. And a real bargain, too. Stopped in after a late concert at the Golden Nugget and it was as delicious as always.

Good food for the money

By Billy S |

The Cal has a Hawaiian flair. The food at the Market Street Cafe is no exception. If you have never been to the islands, you may scratch your head at some of the offerings. They do have mainland fair as well (ie., hamburgers). Overall, the food is good for the price. They seem to have a fair amount of salads for vegetarians. Nothing to write home about; however, I believe it will leave you satisfied.

Great Hawaii Local Favorites!

By Lance P |

The California Hotel and Casino Las Vegas caters to Hawaii tourists, and, being originally from Honolulu, i live in Las Vegas now and this place is great for Hawaii local favorites! Great Fried Saimin and the number one must have Zippys from Hawaii Chili! Always a popular place to come for many years.

prime rib special

By douglas r |

We ate there twice. The rib special was good. Prime Rib, potato, vegetable, nice salad bar and dessert. $9.99. Also had a burger and fries there and it was good.

Oxtail soup

By Jay L |

I came here in the morning before my flight a little hungover and the oxtail soup hit the spot. I was a little late for the times they offered it but as usual the staff went above and beyond and supplied me with the some of the greatest hangover food in human history. Love this place.. especially the staff.

Lunch with the family

By FJ1040 |

Nice place to visit for lunch with family in from CA and HI while visiting Vegas myself. Diverse menu, reasonable prices, friendly service and we weren't rushed at all. I've been there several times over the last ten years, while visiting Vegas...I recommend it for any time of the day.

Best downtown cafe by a mile

By Dan S |

Been coming to Vegas for years and somehow never found this place. A few locals recommend it and I'm very glad we tried it. Been in Vegas for a week and eaten here 4 times. You simply can't beat this place for quality, quantity and price in downtown Las Vegas. Also good service, open 24 hours and a wide variety of dishes available. It's not fancy but nice with everything from sandwiches to steaks and everything between along with numerous Hawaiian dishes and some Asian as well. Enjoyed all our meals and prices are very reasonable. Tip for dinner it gets very busy usually around 7 so go earlier or later to avoid long line ups.

Blah, blah and worse

By heartspokenwords |

I read the reviews and it seemed it would be fine for a short visit to Freemont Street Experience. NO. First consideration was to get the Prime Rib special--only offered in med to well done. I passed. Selected the soup and salad bar--mediocre at best--all iceburg lettuce, with several routing low end salad bar offerings. Messy station and the cucumber and tomato salad was too mushy to taste. The soup was chicken corn chowder--only choice--more gravy than soup and maybe that is normal. My meal was pretty bad but... Daughter is a vegetarian and ordered fettuccine alfredo--bland, blah and really terrible! I tasted it and no one ate it.. I think I can truly say I have never had such terrible food out--anywhere. Not even my first attempt at making tuna casserole as a new bride was as bad as this pasta dish. Sorry, Market Street Cafe this was a bad experience. Rest rooms pretty bad, service fair to poor and even the cashier checking out agreed the food was poor--suggested a place a few shops down. Very sorry we wasted our valuable and limited time here. There are so many good and wonderful places to eat at all price ranges. I suggest avoiding this one.

Prime rib special is worth it.

By paulinespens |

I was highly recommended to visit and try the prime special and I was not disappointed. For $11.99 I had house salad, prime rib and cherries jubilee for dessert. The salad was great. I loved the baked potato and green beans with my juicy prime rib. Staff and service was great and I would definitely return to next time I am in Vegas.

Friendly Staff, Fast, Efficient, Great Food

By redhead |

Ate Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner here, all were delicious. Food served very fast and hot. Staff helpful and friendly. More bang for your buck.

Wow

By hazel_travelss |

The food was really good! I had a short rib steak the first night we ate here. The steak was very tender and the gravy is just delicious, first time I ate something like that. The second night was an Ox tail soup. It was good too big serving it can be shared by two. Decent prices too. Its just that they serve the food too long.

Eat deal around

By Xatlatc |

I ate here several times during my stay and every meal was very good and priced right. The prime rib meal for $9.99 includes salad bar or soup, baked potatoes, green beans and cherries jubilee for dessert.

Great breakfast.

By Bryan M |

We grabbed a quick breakfast here before departing and were quite pleased. Not fancy, but everything that I expected and friendly, efficient staff. The buffet appeared to be quite popular. However, we chose to order off the menu and did not visit the buffet.

Busy place

By Dave P |

This place is always busy. Excellent value for nothing fancy food. Most dinners come with an all you can eat salad bar, which was simple, fresh and well stocked. Our prime rib looked delicious but was pretty tough. The au jus was pretty sad. Dinner for two $25. Hard to beat.

What a Hotel Cafe Should Be!

By mshapiro99 |

The restaurant offers a widely varied menu, good specials, and the chance to relax and enjoy a meal nearby (but no on) the casino floor. The breakfast buffet is one of the last good deals in Las Vegas!

Excellent prime rib among a number of great choices.

By Nomad_LA |

The hostess kept everyone in line informed that the wait for the restaurant and the food would be greater since they only had two cooks. This was not the case, as it took only 20 minutes to get a table and no longer than usual to get our food. Our waiter, ‘YoungK’ and the staff were great: Attentive, quick, friendly which I would have thought have been impossible as the place was jumpin. The restaurant did not have the Vegas smoke smell, but unfortunately the line to get in is in the casino, so we wore our masks, and we were not the only ones (thank you Covid for making this look normal). We both ordered the prime rib special and couldn’t believe the size and taste of the cut. Outstanding. You get salad, vegetable, baked potato and dessert for one reasonable price. Lots of other delicious looking specials that we will have to come back to try. They are known for their Oxtail soup, but it is only available after 9 pm and subject to be sold out. There also was a surf and turf special only available late at night.

Oxtail soup

Soup was great, just not served hot, medium to room temp. Would have liked to have it piping hot. Understand why it is a fav. Very tasty

Late Night Grubbing

By luisb2452018 |

Came here at 11pm. Line was long. Obviously, there is a hype about the oxtail soup. I wanted to know for myself. Mission accomplished. The soup is good. Well worth the wait. Large bowl with a lot of meat. Really enjoyed it.

Awesome atmosphere and food!

By Vegas G |

You can get a good size meal for a small price. You will not leave hungry! The waitstaff are wonderful! I got eggs, spam, hash browns & toast. So yummy! My husband got Chicken Fried Steak w/ a baked potato and salad bar! It was $20. Find that on the strip! Definitely will be back!

Great Oxtail soup!

By Tawnyrval |

Market Street is a hidden gem that offers incredible value, and this particular hotel exemplifies that experience. Aloha truly resonates here, evident in the restaurant's delightful offerings, which include oxtail soup, saimin, musubi, Portuguese sausage, Vienna sausage, butterfish, and short ribs — the menu is a celebration of flavors! My personal favorite is the 11 PM - 6 AM oxtail soup special. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay up late enough to enjoy it during this visit (I was still full from a delightful dinner of yellowtail at the Bellagio — be sure to check out my review!). Nevertheless, Market Street is always a must-visit when I'm in Downtown Vegas. The relaxed vibe, fantastic atmosphere, and the warm hospitality from the islanders make it a truly memorable experience. During this visit, we enjoyed a satisfying lunch comprising a delicious club sandwich and fries, saimin, and a hearty breakfast plate featuring pancakes, tocino, eggs, and rice. Everything was delicious, and we left as happy campers with full bellies! If you're in the area, make sure to stop by for a taste of island-inspired cuisine.

ate prime rib dinner

By guest461 |

really a great value after a few days on the strip it was a refreshing change. the salad bar is all you can eat and included in special . I went on Sunday nite and would recommend getting there by 5pm it got very busy just after we arrived. I would eat there every nite but am going to try other resturants :)

Oxtail !!!

By MariaandDesco |

Even though we just landed, i walked to the Cal and waited patiently just so i can have my Oxtail fix. This is how i always start my trip and boy oh boy, it was DELISHIOUS !!!

Quick breakfast before the ariport

By Beth E |

This place has spam, and a Hawaiian vibe. I had rice with my Portuguese sausage omelet. Reasonably priced and assorted menu items.

Best Oxtail Soup Ever!!

By valuevacations |

As a local, I bring my visiting friends to this relatively unknown eatery. You need to do advance planning though because the iconic famous Oxtail Soup is not served until 11pm. Enjoy the Fremont Street Experience beforehand and snack a little bit so you don’t go hungry. Park in California Hotel’s multi-level parking where the restaurant is. Walking distance to the Fremont Experience.

Favorite Eatery

By runner4texas |

All the prices of the food were definitely on top. If you want Hawaiian food this is a place you need to stop. Their breakfast buffet was amazing for under $7 per person. Would definitely suggest to eat here.

Decent option for a quick lunch!

By StanleyandMarie |

Based upon the reviews, we decided to try this place out for lunch while we were downtown exploring the Mob Museum (less than a 10 minute walk away). It was the salad bar that drew us in (very cheap), but only one person took advantage of the salad bar when we saw how basic it was. Despite some of the pictures, this place really seemed like a basic diner to us - sandwiches were just fine, salad bar was basic but ok, and the soup, which was homemade, received the most raves. Very reasonable prices all round and decent food for a lunch if you don't care much about the atmosphere.

Great Value - average food

By cmchaca |

We actually ate here three times! It was convenient and cheap. Our family all met at the diner for Breakfast and discuss the day (coming in from different states). Then my husband wanted to pre-eat before a late night steak house dinner reservation. He had a burger and fries at the small counter. He said it was cooked Medium as he asked and it was good. Then my mother who is 80 said she likes their breakfast because she can't possibly eat a lot at the Buffet. We took her for last morning omelettes. We enjoyed it. I think they have decent coffee - just strong - 2 instead of just one creamer :)

Two days in a row

By Ydnar |

Yes, we ate here two days in a row and I had steak both times. The first was the 'Graveyard' NY Steak special for an astonishing $6.99 (11pm-9am); cooked to order, and I had mixed vegetables and fries. Aside from the possibility of a wait to get seated (this place seems busy at all times), it's my new go-to late-night downtown steak deal, no doubt about it. My wife thoroughly enjoyed hers as well. The following day we went for a late dinner, I ordered the NY steak once again at the regular price, my wife had (yikes!) liver which she said was even tastier than steak...At any rate, I had a coupon so the whole meal was well under twenty bucks with tip, the service was very good and we were both very satisfied. There are a LOT of very reasonably priced menu items, lots of daily specials worth checking out. As for the steaks, I think the graveyard deal was a smaller cut but also less than half the regular price, either way very worth the money. I hadn't been here in years but will definitely return on my next trip.

Excellent prime rib dinner

By ksufan88 |

We arrived around 6 pm on a Friday night and only had a short wait to be seated. The cafe is quite large with several rooms of tables. Heather led us to our table and quickly brought us our drink order. We noticed lots of people ordering the Friday night special (oxtail soup), but we both ordered their prime rib dinner special for $9.99. Our meals came with a trip to their salad bar, which my wife really enjoyed. She could have made a meal out of the salad bar, but we tried to save room for the rest of our meal. I was a bit disappointed with a couple items on the salad bar. The carrots were cut into strips and were not shredded or diced, and instead of raw cucumbers they served spicy home-made pickles. The prime rib came prepared exactly as we had ordered it, with potato and green beans. It was more than either of us could eat. Lastly, our waitress, Sarita, brought us a small dish of vanilla ice cream. It usually is served with a cherry sauce on the bottom and whipped cream on top. I was able to ask for it without the cherry sauce. Overall an excellent meal for an great price.

Late night can't be beat

By Ydnar |

This is a great restaurant any time of the day, and of course the line up will vary depending upon what time it is. We've made a habit of coming later in the evening, say midnight or so and the wait is usually minimal while the deals are fantastic. This trip had the $6.99 NY steak special and I don't think this deal can be beat. Cooked to perfection, great service, no coupons required. In a city where there area a lot of steak 'deals', there are no strings attached to this one. They have an extensive menu with lots to offer 24 hours a day, numerous specials to check out. Definitely worth a return trip; value, flavor, an awesome experience.

Mob Museum Breakfast

By Jeffrey B |

We were staying at the Elara and were headed to the Mob Museum. We took Uber to breakfast. I did research before leaving home for a decent and inexpensive breakfast place within walking distance to the museum. I found this place located in the California Hotel. It was perfect. We had a 15 minute wait with a party of five but service was very good as was the food. You have the option of the breakfast buffet or order from the menu. Four of us opted for the menu. Everyone enjoyed their meal and when we were done we had a easy 6 minute walk to the museum.

Market street cafe, early brkfst.

By Safari29310707752 |

Overall food is very good. Dinner time Prime Rib very tasty and large portion. The morning before, went in very early, around 3a. Placed my breakfast order and waited for a very long time so I decided to ask a passing server if she could check the status. I guess my server got annoyed that I was asking and came up to me and said, "we only have 2 people in the back, you have to wait". I don't appreciate being "scolded" for asking, and it's also not my problem that you only have 2 people cooking for breakfast, so don't make it MY problem. Food arrives and she drops in on the table and walks away, not a word. A "thanks for waiting" would have gone a long way. Girl needs come service training.

What happened??? Worst meal I had in 2019

By NitroDog |

This was the worst meal I had in 2019. Boyd Gaming should be ashamed, this used to be a very good restaurant. The salad bar has half the choices they used to. The only saving grace on that was they still had the house made honey french dressing. YUM! TELL THE COOKS TO LAY OFF THE SALT SHAKER!!! My wife ordered the Oriental Soup Combo and it was not edible, because of a ton of salt. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with a baked potato. I was given a salt lick of a chicken fried steak to eat with white rice (not a baked potato) and canned veggies. When the waitress returned to our table 25 minutes after the meal was served she asked if everything was right. No, it was not. The food was garbage and I wanted a baked potato and not white rice. They have also reduced the times for the $9.99 Prime Rib Special. Reduced the 2 items a day on the daily special to 1 (it used to be three). Cut the salad bar selections in half. I own Boyd Gaming stock. MANAGEMENT needs to truly address these issues. Unbelievable how this restaurant has gone downhill. This is not a one time bad experience. It has been going downhill for the past three years. GET RID OF THE SALTSHAKER IN THE KITCHEN! I added many photos of our visit and will not return unless major changes are made. What a shame!

Photos added. I messed up, my wife did not

By NitroDog |

Located at the California Casino, open 24/7. My wife and I dined here for dinner. I ordered a Pastrami Sandwich. Mistake. Very little meat and it was tough. My wife was wise and ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Dinner that came with a baked potato. It came with two large chicken breasts. She let me share. Yum, that was good! I will order that next time. I added photos of our visit and will return. Very friendly staff. Management should be proud. Pure Aloha at the Cal!

Good food at moderate prices

By Joe P |

We ate most of our breakfast meals here because of convenience. There is a very inexpensive buffet and also menu options. Typical lunch menu and the dinner menu had daily specials and the menu option. I had the prime rib twice and for me it was a great meal. Nice sized prime rib about 3/4 inch thick. We ate most of our meals in the Market Street Cafe. Most were very good.

Horrible tough, not freshly made prime rib

By Jo B |

Due to COVID19 and the lack of customer's the prime rib special dinner we always get from here was horrible on 9/16/20. The salad baked pototoe, and cherry jubilee were a good. The prime rib was not fresh, and too tough to chew. It was definitely cooked several days before it was served to us. Even the fat on the prime was yellow, hard, and old. I didn't eat it. I did not want to complain to our waiter that had no control over a struggling resturants food quality. I would recommend taking it off your menu until you can serve the quality prime rib before COVID19.

Great Hawaiian Food

By William K |

I ate breakfast at the Market Street Cafe three out of four days in a row. On alternating days I did the breakfast buffet and then ordered from the menu. The food was served hot, it was plentiful for the price and delicious beyond measure. We were able to get the restaurant to arrange tables that accomodated up to nine guests, family style without much fanfare. During my first night dinner I ordered the Island Short ribs and was absolutely delighted. Well done Market Street. Fast, flavorful and very affordable dining.

Delicious, plentiful and friendly! The perfect combination!

By Carrie T |

My friend and I stumbled upon Market Street Café while exploring Fremont Street, hoping to find a spot for prime rib. We were delighted by what we found! The atmosphere was welcoming, and our servers couldn’t have been friendlier. We couldn’t resist trying the prime rib dinner (only $20.99)—and wow, it was fantastic. You get a choice of soup or salad (the salad was huge—like a full entrée!), a generous side of creamy mashed potatoes with gravy, a vegetable (we had corn), and topped it all off with a luscious Cherries Jubilee for dessert. The prime rib itself was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes and rich gravy were pure comfort food, and the Cherries Jubilee was the perfect finale to a truly wonderful meal. It was so good, in fact, that we went back the next night—and tried the Korean short rib dinner. Served with rice and peas, this dish absolutely blew us away. The meat was so tender that no knife was necessary—just juicy, perfectly seasoned, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. We already can’t wait to return. Thank you to Market Street Café for the delicious meals and such efficient, friendly service!

Nice lunch

By Rebel60 |

We were looking for a restaurant that we hadn't been to in downtown Vegas that close to the Main Street Casino & Hoteland decided to try this place out. There's a walkway from Main Street to California Club where this restaurant is located. Very good variety of menu items and reasonably priced - caters more to the Hawaiian crowd. The BBQ beef brisket was pretty good and the Philly Cheese Steak. Wait staff was fairly friendly.

Ok, nothing special

By Andrew K |

Long line to get in, moved fairly quick. Prices are very reasonable. Food was OK, coffee was good quaility _ kona. Staff were very busy but attentive. Order off the menu or buffet. Ox tail soup (we heard) was very good. Just had one breakfast there so our experiance is limited. Main Street Staions buffett is a better choice for us - across the walkway.

Hawaiian plus

By pillowsofwanderlust |

I've eaten here many time over the years; I was surprised to see I've never done a review. If I were just rating this most recent visit, it would be 2-3 stars, because the service was the worst I've had here, and I saw the chili spaghetti is no longer on the menu. I have no connection with Hawaii aside from loving Hawaiian food, so I pay full price here. I've had the oxtails here on several occasions, but I've become less of a night owl, so instead I usually get one of the specials that start at 4 pm. This time it was the prime rib, which comes with soup or salad, starch (potato or rice), a veggie and cherries jubilee. The other specials (short ribs and butterfish) do not come with a starter or dessert. The prime rib is a great value but of course not the best I've had. Still, it's comfort food and a sizeable portion. My server and backserver were almost non-existent. I was sitting at the bar and they both were invisible for large stretches of time. When I asked the server if they still have the chili spaghetti, she just said no without a reason. Interestingly, a cup of Zippy's chili is still on the menu. I'll nevertheless continue to come here, coupon-less and with lowered expectations.

Diverse Menu

Large menu that is budget friendly. Caters to the Hawaiian clientele that is prevalent at The Cal and Main Street. Food is solid. Breakfast buffet.

A evening to remeber!

By Samuel P |

The service was outstanding. I ate at the counter because I was alone that evening. That turned out to be a wise choice! The lady behind the took my order and was very friendly. I had the prime rib dinner and it was excellent. It came with a large salad and a baked potato. the steak was huge and it was cooked perfectly. i ordered it cooked medium and it was so good very tender and just the right amount of seasoning! The real treat came when the bus lady took the order for drinks. She was always there being very attentive always checking to see if I needed anything else. Her personality was very infectious and she was very beautiful! her name was Darline, the name on her nametag she was wearing. She made my dining experience so perfect. She is someone I will not soon forget. The wonderful meal the service I got from the buss person Darline just convinced me to make this a weekly event if not dining there with even more frequency! Can't wait to visit again and hope to see Darline there if I'm lucky!

Great inexpensive food!

By SeaMariner22 |

While visiting Las Vegas, we decided to visit downtown and found dinner in the California Casino at the Market Street Cafe. I loved my Country Fried Steak which was very satisfying while my wife enjoyed her Saimin. Service was excellent. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone seeking satisfying comfort food.

Surprisingly good food!

By Fun time |

We were enticed by a sign offering a prime rib special for $8.99. We weren’t super hungry so we thought we’d give it a try-how could we loose at that price! The cafe is nice- much nicer than other casino a few doors down that offers a $7.99 prime rib. (That other place you have to get a number & wait for hours until you’re called over a loudspeaker-than get shoved into a loud area where they can’t wait to get you out!) Market Streets cafe is quieter and dinner includes very tender prime rib, large potato & generous serving of veggies. A small but tasty desert of cherries jubilee was also included! The service and food was so good we went back another day for breakfast. We did not have the buffet buffet as other options were very reasonable.

The most ICONIC yet BLAND diner in Las Vegas

By Dwight |

I sampled several dishes, and while the portions were generous, the flavors were, dare I say, bland. It's more in line with a senior crowd that’s been coming here for decades. Nostalgic? Sure. But not especially exciting. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try the oxtail soup because it’s only served between 11pm and 6am - very odd hours for your signature dish. Still, the café’s long-standing role in Vegas-Hawaiian culture makes it worth knowing about—even if just for the story.

Delicious and great prices.

Great and inexpensive breakfast buffet. Huge omelettes. Many south pacific food items. Eclectic menu for any time of day.

Great service and Great food!!

By Donovan C |

We had a promotional deal for staying at the property and this was one of the only resaurants open here, due to the current situation we are supposedly in. We really enjoyed our dinner and the wait staff was great from greeting us to the time we settled the check. Even with the pandemic, there was a small line to get in and the place was full, this could be due to the fact that its the only place open but I dont think so. I had the Asian Soup Combo, which I highly recommend, my wife had the club which she said was excellent!! Give it a try when your downtown!

Great Everything!

By Bruce K |

We ate here several times because we were so satisfied. We normally like to try several eateries when we're in Vegas, not this trip. Where else can you get a prime rib dinner, with salad bar and dessert for under ten bucks? Breakfast was great here as well. You could eat at the buffet or order whatever you want. I had steak and eggs for under nine dollars! Give it a try. Service was wonderful as well.

I had the Ham Steak, eggs and hashbrowns on this visit. My wife had a huge omelet with a ton of things inside with hashbrowns. Both came with toast. Hiuge portions for a low price. Excellent service once we got seated. I will return.

The prime rib dinner special is still very good

By SUE M |

$9.99 before 6 p.m. is still pretty great. You cannot beat it. Nice piece of prime rib, potato, green beans, salad bar, cherries jubilee dessert. Some years we’ve been disappointed but not this year, it was very good. No complaints. My husband ordered sweet tea and said it was not vg for about 3.00! Our server was very good and attentive.

Fortunately, it has stayed pretty much the same amidst the California Hotel's renovations.

By Shaka_Frank |

Market Street Café has been a reliable old friend all of these years. Despite all of the renovations going on at the Cal, they've had the good sense to leave this place pretty much alone. You get a good meal at a decent price. Most of the wait staff have been there for a while. You know what to expect. You'll get a hearty breakfast. They always have some kind of special the Hawaii folks like. They're just reliable. Sometimes the service can be slow (they're always busy it seems), but the food is good. And, they'll fix it for you if you don't like it. Always keep coming back.

Comfort food

By Foodpoet |

Found comfort food as a tuesday special Hawaiian Kailua pork n cabbage with rice was too tempting to resist as I live in Oklahoma. Like shredded pulled pork I was pleased it wasn't salty but moist and tender.ee also has spaghetti n meatballs, very flavorful and chunky sauce. Meatballs tasted a little dry and should be tendered but overall excellent service and meal and very moderate prices

Great service

By Beverly W |

We stayed at The California Hotel and Casino during our last trip to Vegas and dined at The Market Street Cafe for most of our meals. Great service by all wait staff. Food was good as always. Prime rib diner only 9.99. Breakfast buffet only 6.25 including drink.

Great food, very fast

By Met789 |

I had dinner at Market Street Cafe, and decided to go with the bar seating, so, no wait. I was craving for some eggs, and it was good to see they have all day breakfast. So, steak&eggs was my order. Steak was cooked medium, as I wanted; and the eggs were cooked perfectly over easy. The hash browns were nice too. I washed it down with a nice coffee, and everything included the price was close to $13, without looking in to too much for specials. I'm sure one can get out of this restaurant for much less, but yet I cannot complain. The server was friendly, and very quick. I really liked the experience and the food and I will definitely be back.

Market Street Cafe august 2019

By volleyfree1 |

I ate here multiple times during my 2 night stay downtown. Two breakfasts, and a dinner. I find it to be a very satisfying meal everytime I have eaten here. A lot of bang for your buck, with a homestyle feel. For breakfast, I had the eggs, sausage, and pancakes very filling, and for dinner I had an island staple called Lau Lau. First time and it was different but tasty and filling. I would highly recommend this restaurant especially if you are looking for an extremely good value in the land of Overpriced las vegas restaurants.

Good All Nighter In DTLV

By Zoom_Gotti |

24 hr restaurant/cafe inside the California Hotel on Ogden one street north of Fremont. Hawaiian themed but also offers traditional American fare for dinner, breakfast and in the burger range. Probably most noted for the oxtail soup, luau breakfast bar, and the butterfish. If you're a casino member, you'll get some deals. But the prices, in general are fairly low for all customers. Know that service can be somewhat sloppy, especially late night. Especially finding the host. The Sunday special is usually pork adobo. On weekends, Fremont Street is a shoulder to shoulder rock out party.

Nice meal for cheap!!!

By Julia |

Only $9.99 for prime rib, salad, veggie and potato. Then dessert, wow. 3pm to 6pm special. Food was good, service was great. Thanks team. I will be back.

A lot of Island favorites available. Good and friendly service. The breakfast luau had a good selection and the food was freshly prepared.

Prime Rib Special Doesn't Disappoint

By sadie f |

I visited after seeing the information on their $9.95 prime rib special. I wasn't expecting much and was very surprised with the excellent meal - great service (thanks Olga) - and yummy salad bar.

Came for the salad bar

By happyme_13 |

A simple salad bar, very fresh and restocked quickly. I had spaghetti and meatballs. Great comfort food. Prime rib dinner at 9.99 included salad bar and cherries jubilee for dessert. No wonder there’s the line up.

It has been a few years, but my wife and I wanted to give Market Street Cafe another try. We were seated immediately and both had an Iced Tea. My wife had the Saimin Soup that she enjoyed. I had the Steak and Eggs with Hash Browns and an English Muffin. Everything was fine, except the steak was way overcooked for medium-well. I smothered it with Hines 57 and it worked. The service was pure Aloha and I will return again soon. Be sure to validate your parking (the food bill must be $30 or more).

Great prime rib

By evebuck |

The Market Street Cafe has a varied menu and a selection for everyone. Their prime rib dinner is a great deal and very good. The service is friendly and efficient. Love the cherries jubilee too.

Not Good

By Matt A |

Went specifically for the prime rib special and was so disappointed. The salad was fine but the prime rib was over-cooked and the baked potato hard. Never ate much of either and decided to skip dessert also. People at the next table sent their food back THREE times as it was not cooked as requested.

Best Value in Vegas

By Pierre D |

Well, I was shocked to see the prices and the service at that restaurant. We found this place by fluke, just walking by from casino to casino. I took the Fettuccine for $8.99 My wife took the Spaghetti for the same price (I think) This included the salad bar. It wasn't a huge salad bar, but it had everything that you need. Absolutely the perfect place to eat. Great food, great staff, great atmosphere.

Prime Rib 19.99

By Brenda L |

The food here epically the prime rib is great. Service is great! Prime rib for 19.99 comes with a large fresh salad baked potato and vegetables an ice cream as desert included in the price. Go early because alot of people know about it and it gets crowded but well worth the wait. Located close to Fremont street.

Good Eats

By mgeorge52 |

The food was good and reasonably price. The portions were nice and the staff were very efficient and friendly. The lines were long but moved fast. I enjoyed the breakfast buffet, everything tasted good and fresh. I came back for dinner and had a pleasant time. While it was not fancy the food was reasonable.

ONOLICIOUS!!!

By 1Panda |

We were able to breakfast at the Market Street Cafe twice 2weeks ago and I’m still thinking about the wonderful experience. Five of us ordered different breakfasts and each could not stop raving. The eggs, RICE, portugese sausage and sour dough toast was wonderful. Another ordered the Philippine breakfast and eating the “Ticino” brought back memories with her grandfather. My nephew had the corned beef hash breakfast two days in a row. The male server was very busy but he took time to take our picture with a smile on his face. The next day a sweet lady server shared her Aloha spirit and all servers would check on everyone’s coffee and water. They have teamwork with no “prima donnas”, which makes it nice for the customers. Breakfast prices were 1/3 those of Harrah’s Fulton Street Food Court and the Market Street service was the best! The most expensive item on their breakfast menu was $9!

Special super good for the price.

By jbees |

Had heard a lot about their special, Prime Rib. Ate here on a Friday about 6:30 PM. All of us had the special with baked potato. It was cooked to order, medium rare, and was juicy, tender and very tasty. Two of us had the clam chowder as a side while the other had the unlimited salad bar. The chowder was very good but the salad was just a salad. They were crowded but we did get right in to be seated. Service was good. There will be those that don't like this thinking that it has to be expensive to be good. At under 10 bucks, can't beat it. Will go back if in the area.

First time here, very impressed

By Donald S |

Our first time to this restaurant, and the food was very good. Four of us all had the prime rib dinner. It was $13.99, and came with a choice of potato, salad, broccoli (which was cold), and dessert of cherries jubilee. As I saw other entrees go by, they all looked good. We will be back.

Photos added. Low Prices, Very good food

Located inside the California Hotel Casino. Open 24/7. I ordered a very good Prime Rib Omelet with hashbrowns and toast and my wife had the 2 pork chop meal with salad bar, vegies and white rice. The salad bar has fewer items than in the past. Very friendly service. I added 10 photos of our visit.

Good, this time

By jjacks70 |

We come here almost every trip, 3-4 times a year. Hubby always gets the oxtail soup. He said it was as good as always this time. I wish there were more late night options. I struggle to find something that sounds good late at night. Some French toast and some more breakfast options would be greatly appreciated. But, this time I tried the steak and eggs and it was pretty good. I would order it again.

Market Street Cafe--GREAT PRIME RIB!!!

By Karen R |

We saw it on the Trip Advisor! Really great prime rib for $9.95...includes the salad bar (really very good!), the best prime rib, baked potato with all the trimmings!, green beans. What a place! We also got a dessert!! Olga was our server...what a neat server!! We will go back again!

Outstanding food and very Friendly service!

By Clark W. |

Had wanted to try something off Fremont St and we are SO GLAD we found this! Such a very nice building! The selection of food was wonderful. The staff were all so friendly we were somewhat shocked because that has become unusual! The breakfast was amazing so we went back for dinner and were very happy. May stay at this casino next time just because of how impressed we were. Good Job!

Very Good Food in a "Meh" Atmosphere

By B_Pope |

The atmosphere is dated and worn, perhaps from the 90's. But the food and service was very good! I had fish and chips, which were crispy outside, tender inside. The fries were hot, crisp, and thankfully not too salty (one of my pet peeves). It was good sustenance, generous portions, and fair pricing. All with friendly service that aimed to please. The menu is American diner meets Hawaiian, so they offer mainstream food and some more adventurous items.

Good food

By jklemon |

Good food, good portions. Decent fair price for food. Good menu selection. Try the ox tail soup, it's more of a meal really. Service was excellent, staff was excellent. Food was better than a buffet. Worth paying a visit.

Great buffet! Even greater price!

By Cathy61160 |

Checked out the lunch buffet in early February while staying in the Downtown area. There was a nice variety of fresh food and the service was top notch! Will definitely stop in on our next visit in June.

Excellent Prime Rib Special

By InvisibleReviews |

The prime rib special is one of the best values in Las Vegas. For $9.99, you get top-notch prime rib, cooked the way you want it, vegetable, baked potato, all you can eat salad bar and cherries jubilee for dessert. For comparison, I paid $43.00 at Bellagio for a similar meal that wasn't as good. The special is good at that price from 3pm to 6pm and then it is raised. This is not a problem for those visitors on Eastern and Central time who would be eating at those times anyway. Service is exceptional here. The cashier remembered me as I had eaten this special earlier in the week. Other things on the menu like ham and eggs are also very good and an excellent value. The Cal also has a largely Hawaiian clientele and has many types of island foods on the menu. This is the way Las Vegas used to be. Good food, good service and great pricing. Not the incredible ripoff the Strip has become.

Worst food and service ever

By pjfletcherf1968 |

So we sit down, I brought three new people to Vegas and was embarrassed. A lady comes and asks what we would like to drink, I ask for water with another person and the other two ordered wine. The lady said "No, you have to ask your waitress." So after around ten more minutes, a waitress shows up and just asks if we know what we want. I ask if the prime rib special is still on and she says "How do you want it?" How about answering my question. So she takes all the orders and doesn't ask about drinks but takes off real fast. So while we were eating our salads, our food comes out so we had eight full plates that had to fit on the table. So I pile up the salad plates on a shelf behind the bench. I get mine and say I asked for fries, mine had a potato. She argues with me about how I was wrong. Then, one of the guests literally couldn't even cut through her prime rib. It was so tough, the knife wouldn't cut through it. The waitress never came back, another of my friends had to get up and get another waitress to come and deal with it. I will never go back myself or recommend it. Thanks Ani, you are the most miserable server I have ever had.

Just OK

We had dinner here and we thought the food was just ok...nothing special. The service was good though! We would not return. This was the worst meal we had our entire trip!

Photos added. After 5 years I tried again

By NitroDog |

My wife and I dined here for dinner after giving Market Street Café a 5 year break. Now I remember why. We both ordered an Iced Tea. My wife had the Saimin Combo Soup that she enjoyed, but the shrimp were tiny and the won tons were gamey. I had the Prime Rib Dinner with a salad (iceberg lettuce, 3 cherry tomato's and carrot strips). Very plain but good Blue Cheese dressing. They used to make a homemade Honey French dressing that was excellent, but that is gone. I ordered my Prime Rib medium and they flashed cooked it on the grill making it beyond tough (that is a lazy cook). Shame, because it looked like it was a good cut of beef before doing this. I also got a baked potato that was good and tough Broccoli. It also came with a Cherries Jubilee dessert. They eliminated the former salad bar (that was great), cut back the menu choices and the prices are much higher (I understand prices going up). The service was very good, but I may wait a while to try this place again. They are now the only coffee shop open 24 hours a day 7 days a week Downtown (so that is a plus).

Good Food at a Great Price

By Russell L |

If you are tired of getting nickled and dimed to death on the strip, I would suggest going to downtown Vegas for food and possibly loser gambling in casinos. If you like paying overpriced food featuring your favorite Food Network star, stay in the strip. but the Market Street Cafe still carries that old Vegas feel with food you can afford. This is 2018 and you can still get a Prime Rib meal with salad bar or soup, baked potato or rice and a vegetable along with a cherries jubillee dessert for $9.95. I personally feel that some one higher up made it more difficult for people to get downtown if you don’t have a car and you are on the strip but that is just me. Actually you could get a rid share with Lyft or Uber for around $7 if you are on the strip and make it down there for breakfast lunch or dinner with great prices. The Fulton Experience has a lot of stores and casinos and to me, has more of a feel of the Vegas than the ritzy flash in the pan strip owned by only a few corporations.

Favorite low cost 24 hour eatery for those from Hawaii

By Miles N |

This restaurant is a 24 hour restaurant that is the favorite for those from Hawaii travelling to Las Vegas. The prices are reasonable and they carry a lot of local Hawaiian favorites.

Good late night grub

By rlg65py |

Good place to eat after hours. Waiter was rude but got our order right and food came out fast. Would eat again late night downtown

So good and cheap!

By Courtney F |

Got the prime rib dinner and for the price you CAN NOT go wrong! The salad bar was kind of lame but thats ok. The prime rib dinner was huge, came with a baled potato and veggies. And when your done desert was included too! Wish we knew about this place earlier in the trip because we probably would have came more.

Best Oxtail soup in DTLV, actually only oxtail soup in DTLV

By Tawnyrval |

Oxtail, saimin, Moco loco, Portuguese sausage and eggs. Never disappoint! I've gone outta my way even if I'm at a hotel on the strip just to get their famous oxtail soup. The lines are crazy.. as your waiting half drunk and deciding on whether you need to yack or not, the second your seated and you take a spoonful of that broth ....gooodness the enticing flavors just make you feel like a new person. This place makes me happy!! Yes oxtail rocks!!

Nice inexpensive breakfast specials

By MiamiFlyer |

Good selection of breakfast specials at a reasonable price. Service was very good and portions were good sized.

Fantastic oxtail soup

By Tonya V |

I went with the sole purpose of trying their legendary oxtail soup. It did not disappoint. It comes in a huge bowl with rice, cilantro and ginger on the side so you can fix it how you like it. Oxtail is so tender most falls off the bone but you get to fish out the bones and finish off the rest. Oxtail is a fun and potentially messy soup to eat. The bowl was huge and I couldn’t finish it all but I gave it a good try! I hadn’t eaten in 12 hours but it was still to much. Solo traveler hack: if there is space at the counter you can skip the line!

Enjoyable Lunch

By LnS2004 |

We had an enjoyable lunch here. The friendly waitresses, the island theme menu and decor all made us feel like we’re back in relaxing Hawaii. The zippy’s award winning chili was the standout with a rich, well-balanced flavor and good texture. The Caesar salad tasted fresh with just the right amount of dressing. The daily special ribeye steak with a savory teriyaki sauce was done perfectly. They made good macaroni salad here. Our dining companions liked their teriyaki chicken and katsu curry as well.

Quick and Inexpensive

By narfishi |

Ate numerous meals while staying at the hotel and was impressed by the efficient service from the wait staff! (Just one unpleasant reaction from the hostess when we asked for a table in a different area during our final meal.) The prices are very, very reasonable! And we appreciated the convenience of stopping in for a quick bite. Highlights: Island Style breakfast with the options for Portuguese sausage for a meat option and rice instead of hash browns! Yes! Felt like I was on vacation in Hawaii! Opted for the breakfast bar the next morning and appreciated the variety. Thoroughly enjoyed the Miso Butterfish dinner! The Saturday Lau Lau Daily Special included a delicious side of Chicken Long Rice. Yum! The Wonton Min I ordered for a lunch had a nice broth! Tip: probably should have ordered the Prime Rib special medium-rare because, the medium done piece was disappointingly tough/dry. The special comes with dessert! My dining experience fluctuated between average and very good, but the price point motivated the higher rating. You can also redeem casino points for meals.

Try the Honey French dressing at the salad bar. It is made in-house. Very good service on this visit. I added photos and I will return.

Came here for the early breakfast buffet.

By Mike M |

Good coffee shop in Downtown Las Vegas. Took advantage of their $6.99 breakfast buffet. Had the usual offerings like bacon, eggs and bread, but added Hawaiian linguisa sausage to the meats. Sparse offerings, but for $6.99, it was well worth it. Only hiccup was coffee and juice was to be included, but they charged me for it. Customer service was great, and they were prompt to refill cups and remove dirty plates.

Excellent food and service

By Shirley H |

Every kind of food you can think of from Asian to American, down home to exotic. Service is friendly and timely. Price is very affordable compared to the casinos on the strip. Walking distance to the Freemont Experience.

Very disappointed ☹️

By Jamie R |

Came here based solely on reviews, brought 5 other people and not one of us enjoyed our meal to any reasonable degree. Can’t even say what the strip steak was composed of. The beef in the sandwich was questionable, the pastrami was very fatty and the service, most of all, was negligent and impersonal. Salad bar was good, only one us had access to the salad bar but he made several trips and really enjoyed it.

Experience is the Best Teacher

By Benita L |

I kept reading the reviews and didn't want to go but after a people party on Fremont Street you want a good meal. We went here and enjoyed the Seafood Buffet. I ate so many crab legs and shrimp until I felt sick. Our waiter was no friendly to start off but there was a shift change and this guy was excellent. Don't always base your decisions on reviews, it's best to try it for yourself. I am glad we did!

Oxtail Soup beginning at 4 pm

By ksufan88 |

We visited on a Friday night at 8 pm and had only a very short wait to be seated. One of the friends we were dining with was very excited to be able to order the Oxtail Soup. Normally this dish is only available after 11 pm but now the soup is available beginning at 4 pm. Since the diner is not currently open 24 hours, they decided to offer the soup earlier in the day which made our friend very happy. He really enjoyed the soup and left with a big smile on his face. My wife and I ordered the prime rib special which we really enjoyed. We miss the salad bar but understand why it is not currently available. The cherries jubilee ice cream is a nice touch at the end of the meal if you order the prime rib.

Just OK.

By dianemC2039KY |

Hostess and wait staff were not very friendly; maybe they had a long day?? Ordered fish and chips and the fish was very, very, very greasy. I do realize it is fried, however, you can drain it before serving to avoid. Salad bar came with meal and it was good. Picked this restaurant because the line was fairly short but realized very quickly it did not move fast as the hostess did not move fast!! Probably will not try again unless I was out of options.

Good all around cafe. See comment below about Oxtail soup!

By Jim W |

First, if you have the chance, go there for Oxtail soup. It is the best anywhere (I am Chinese and my friends agree as well). It is only served Friday nights starting at 11pm until sold out. There will always (every time I have been) be a line. If you don’t want to wait get there a bit early (at least 10:45pm. At midnight there will generally be a line 25+ deep so this is really good stuff. Other than that they service lots of good food with a Hawaii /Asian flair. This is located in the Hotel California in old downtown Las Vegas. They have a parking structure just adjacent to the hotel. If you are driving from the strip, turn right after the hotel and an immediate right into their high rise parking structure. Bring your ticket as the cafe will validate. This looks like a rinks dink cafe but it is a true treasure (and inexpensive to boot). Do not miss this gem!

Good quality food. Free parking at casino garage with restaurant receipt.

I returned for another experience at the Market Street Cafe, downtown. The food quality was good. See the photo attached. There is free parking in the casino garage when the restaurant receipt is presented at the casino cashier.

This is the one

By James G |

After ten years living here in Downtown Vegas my wife and I stumbled upon this restaurant. We both had the Prime Rib Diner and was very pleased. The setting was comfortable and the prices were better than average. This is a nice place trying not to be big time. The service was good and we shall now make this a regular place to go eat.

So good, so cheap!

By pillowsofwanderlust |

Since I was staying at the Cal, I ended up eating here 4 times in 3 days. It would have been 5 times had I not slept in the day of departure. In the past I've mostly eaten at Aloha Specialties upstairs, which remains a solid choice for Hawaiian food. But this time, I only got a snack there (Spam musubi and mac salad) and had my main meals at Market Street, where there are deals to be had and many food choices, including Hawaiian/Asian. Service ranged from meh to pretty friendly. The times I visited (5 pm for dinner, 5:30 am for "breakfast"), there were shockingly no lines. There were minimal lines when I passed by at other times, in stark contrast to past visits. I mostly ate at the counter, which is first come, first served. Here, there are separate people who take your drink order vs. your food order. The speed at which food sometimes comes out tells you things are not made to order, but when it's good and cheap, I'm not complaining. Here are the things I tried: Butterfish dinner special. $12.99 from 4pm-10pm, cheaper for folks with some type of Hawaiian coupon. Decent, could have been marinated in the miso longer. Rice or potato. Vegetable (green beans) were canned or boiled until almost gray. There's an extra charge if you want the salad bar, which I did (it includes a very good mac salad) Island Short Ribs. $11.99 with rice, mac salad and veggie (zucchini, carrots and cauliflower today). Delish! Fried Saimin. $6.99 with char-sui pork, shrimp and veggies. Delish! Prime Rib dinner special. $9.99 from 4pm-10pm, cheaper for Hawaiians with coupons. Includes soup or salad bar, potato (including baked) or rice, veggie (limp green beans again), plus a dessert of cherries jubilee (a scoop of vanilla ice cream atop a cherry compote, with whipped cream--really a sundae, no booze that gets flambe'd). Came with jus and horseradish cream. Not the greatest prime rib I've had, but fabulous for $9.99! Oxtail Soup. This is one of the Cafe's Graveyard Specials, and surely its most popular, served 11pm-9am for $10.99, cheaper for coupon-holding Hawaiians. I've heard folks line up for this, so the Cafe is bustling in the midnight hours. I instead had the soup at 5:30 am--no line, and it came out within minutes of ordering. I suppose there is a risk of them running out of soup closer to the 9am deadline. The bowl was large, full of meaty, fatty oxtails and veggies (carrots and celery). A scoop of rice, fresh ginger and cilantro were served alongside. Substantial, but maybe not worth losing sleep over. Had I had breakfast the day of departure, I would have had the Luau Breakfast Buffet, served 6am-11am for $6.25! I took a peek at the buffet the morning I had the oxtail soup and saw scrambled eggs, rice, Portuguese sausage, hash browns, bacon, ham, corned beef hash (canned?), blintz-like things, unidentified fried things, biscuits and gravy, canned fruit, fresh fruit (bananas), breads and danish. Overall a cheap way to be a (Hawaiian) glutton. The meal I had at Joe's Stone Crab in the Forum Shops at Caesar's cost more than all my meals combined at the Cal.

Resonable wholesome food.

By MikeHarrison2014 |

I've rated this restarant as "average" but let me say, I like average, average is what I'm after. I'm a simple person with simple taste. I came to this restarant on September 4th quite by accident after another nearby restarant was so full it had a line out the door. I lined up for less than 5 minutes and because I'm a solo traveller I was seated at the counter top which was fine for me. I was given some coffee a couple of minutes after sitting down and my order was taken about 10 minutes after sitting down. I was warned due to them being very busy food was taking longer than useual. It took about 30-40 minutes to get my food. I ordered the moco loco which was beautiful! Looked great in the bowl and tasted even better, I was well happy with the food. It's simple, honest food. Nothing too fancy or over the top. Sure, my experience took longer than I was hoping but I understood they were busy. Vegas as a whole seemed way more busy during this trip. Anyways, long story short, would I come here again? YES! Would I recommend you to come here? YES! Great food. The moco loco costs around $13 and it certainly filled me right up.

Best Oxtail Soup

By Roy Y |

Market Street Cafe inside The Cal is the home of the best oxtail soup! After the initial surge of hungry diners from 11:00pm ever night, except Tues, you can just stroll in with no line around 11:45pm. At that time, 9 out of 10 customers are there for the oxtail soup and don’t even bother opening their menus. The meat was fall-off-the-bone soft and the soup was savory as usual. I could have used more grated ginger garnishing and straw mushrooms in my soup, but it was delicious none the less.

Best Prime Rib for the price in Vegas. You get the steak cooked exactly as you ordered with green beans and choice of potato or rice. But after you order, you also get soup or an excellent salad bar. When you finish, the Prime Rib should be ready. But wait, that's not all (as they say in the commercial), you also get cherries jubilee for desert and it is a treat. All this for $10, how do they do it? Market Street Café is located in the California Casino downtown. They have an extensive menu and a favorite is Oxtail Soup but I have not acquired a taste for the soup. They also have a breakfast buffet that is inexpensive and excellent. Be warned, at times the wait to get in can be a deterrent.

The oxtail soup starts at 11 pm

By LesEye |

After a humongous late Thanksgiving brunch at a buffet, we thought we'd get their oxtail soup instead of dinner. Turns out it is only served starting at 11 pm until early morning. So we ordered some Italian off the menu. Wasn't the best of choices- food was bland, the sauce was watery. It was Thanksgi8iving night so it is possible that the regular kitchen staff were out Servers were great , very chatty and friendly

Great breakfast buffet!

By kurokitty |

I was staying on the Strip and was wandering around looking for a place to eat early in the morning and really couldn't find a decent cafe, so -- I drove downtown and came here for breakfast. I had the buffet, which included eggs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, Portuguese sausage, etc. and all for under $7! It was a nice change of pace to come here and it was delish!

Prime rib dinner - great deal!

By checkitout |

There was a 15 minute wait to get in the restaurant even though there were only a few people ahead of us. The hostess would just disappear for long stretches. We were getting hungry and impatient but it was worth the wait once we got in. Three of us got the prime rib special and were more than satisfied. The salad bar was fresh and had good variety. The prime rib was large, perfectly done, and seasoned very well. The green beans were very good. There was also a large baked potato. Our waitress was nice and remembered one of us saying earlier that we were diabetic. She recommended leaving off the cherries ("all sugar") and just getting vanilla ice cream. I also chose to have plain vanilla ice cream. It was delicious but I couldn't finish it because the meal was so filling. We will definitely come back to the California for the prime rib special.

Keeping the good, cheap food alive

By Beck_and_Jai |

Came with friends and were hesitant to order a $9.99 prime rib dinner.... how good could it possibly be for $9.99?!? Darn good! The meal comes with a salad/soup, baked potato, green beans, and cherries jubilee. Very much worth it!!

First Visit

By cityboy_nz |

Vegas locals came for the night, heard about the famous oxtail soup. Stopped in after checking in, little surprised the soup was only available after 11pm, we decided to have a meal now and come back later for the soup, this review is therefore broken in 2. Was seated right away, offered drinks shortly afterwards, took a really long time for server to come over, in fact needed to ask for server to come over. Server was Aura, appeared at table, no introduction or smile, just said ready? Ordered from the special menu that comes with a soup or salad, we ordered spaghetti and meatballs and I got the fettuccine, she just started to walk away when I asked for chicken with my fettuccine, she nodded and again started to leave, I stopped her and asked to start with some pot stickers, ok she said and left. We wondered if we waited for salad plates like at sizzler, having not been told the process by Aura or even asked if we wanted soup or salad. Eventually we wondered over and helped ourself to some salad, when we got back to the table both meals and pot sticker appetizers were all there. Pot stickers were not very nice, over cooked and crunchy and sauce was a bit on the bland side, we only ate one, might have been an indication to Aura that we did not enjoy them. Spaghetti and meatballs were nice however my fettuccine was barely warm, over cooked mushy pasta and dry chicken. Server never bothered to check back on us. We had to ask someone else for the check. Take 2 - returned after 11pm, seated and offered drinks right away. Our server Joy came over and introduced herself, I said can we start with 1 order of Korean short ribs, then 1 oxtail soup and 1 graveyard steak dinner. Again everything arrived at once, appetizers and entree’s, not sure how much clearer I need to be to get appetizers first. Korean short ribs were ok, smothered in a sweet sauce. Oxtail soup was nice, not very hot, but ok and steak was yummy, little undercooked, crispy fries and nice buttery veges. We were offered refills and Joy checked in on us a few times.

Photos added. Excellent Sirloin Steak Dinner

By NitroDog |

Located at The Cal. My wife and I dined here for dinner. I had an excellent Sirloin Steak complete meal with baked potato, veggies and salad for around $10, The steak was perfect. My wife had the Teriyaki Chicken Dinner with the same. Excellent service. I added photos of our visit and will return again soon. Pure Aloha! Management should be proud. It was so good we went back for breakfast the next morning.

Filling platters, reasonably priced

By lilpnutmom83 |

We were staying in Vegas for the first time, and in search of a place to eat, that was fairly priced, and where we wouldn't leave hungry. FOUND IT! This was exactly that, and so much more!

Friendly, warm, and inviting staff.

By Tammy E |

My friend and I go here every time we are in Las Vegas due to their $9.99 Prime Rib Deal. You get soup or salad bar, 8oz Prime Rib with your choice of potato and warm Cherry Jubilee for dessert.

Photos added. The quality and service has slipped

By NitroDog |

Boyd Casinos, owner of the Cal needs to take a look at what is going on at the Market Street Cafe. We arrived with two people in front of us to be seated. Ten mins later, someone behind us in line got upset and went to find a hostess to be seated. The restaurant was, at best 1/3rd full. The prices remain low, and that is a positive. The salad bar has a lot of things gone that were there in the past. I love the Honey French Dressing that is made in-house. My wife and I both ordered the pan fried Pork Chop dinner with baked potato and veggies. It comes with the salad bar. Lots of fat and gristle on the pork chops. I will not order this dish again. I used to highly recommend this restaurant. It used to be pure Aloha. Boyd needs to send some quality control people in there and get things "fixed". It is a real shame. I have dined here for 20+ years. I added many photos of my visit.

Our Downtown Fuel Stop!

Love this unpretentious spot and have been stopping by for years. Ox Tail Soup at 2 a.m. can't be beat. I do wish it was on the daytime menu as well. After a long morning of exploration with my friends, I opted for the fried saimin noodles. No ka oi!

Very nice

By Roberta G |

We ate dinner here once and breakfast 4 days. They give large portions and the food was exceptionally good. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Graveyard Snack

By Parris F |

Wife and I needed a late night snack after work, since I saw an ad and wanted to try oxtail soup, we thought we'd give this place a try. Walked in and seated immediately at around 2 am. Cafe was not slow, however, as there was a steady stream of customers coming in. Service was quick. Wife ordered an omelet that was done correctly. I ordered the oxtail soup ($10.99). Worried that for the price that the serving size wouldn't match. No worries! Huge bowl, plenty of broth and huge pieces of oxtail. Very good. In fact, about every order coming from the kitchen had a order of oxtail. Would like to try the Friday special sometime which is the oxtail stew. Several other nicely priced, grave-yard specials listed on the menu. For a late night snack, Market Street Cafe at the California is a nice downtown option.

An Absolute Gem

This place is great! The food is excellent. The prices are cheap. The service is exceptionally quick and super friendly!

Here for prime rib special

By Hoben01 |

Usually if it’s near dinner time and I’m around the California casino I come here for the prime rib special. It wasn’t too bad, but the cut didn’t seem as large as I remembered. Since I came here at 4pm becuz I needed to eat early before I took my flight back home there was no crowd for a Saturday.

Great food and good prices

By Jane P |

Enjoyed my Prime Rib (more than I could eat) and cooked to perfection. You get the salad bar and a baked potato or rice. To finish off the meal they give you cherries jubilee all for $9.99. Great value. Really enjoyed.

Breakfast

By Aileen O |

The only place open for breakfast inside the casino. The line was long and they another line for VIPS but does not seem to check their cards when they go to the line which did not sit good with the people in the line with us who spent already 45mins to an hour of waiting.

Disappointed... more than once

By Edward Jeremy |

My wife and I came here several months ago at around 8pm to try the oxtail we had been hearing so much about. We find out when we arrive that it is only available from 11pm - 8am. Though it bummed us out, it wasn't the fault of the restaurant, we just hadn't done our proper research prior to coming here. Whatever we ended up ordering, ( I can't remember exactly what the 2 dishes were because they were not memorable ) the food was pretty bland and not satisfying. I returned to Las Vegas on my own recently and arrived around 5am hoping for the oxtail soup only to be told "Sorry we don't have it today." Disappointed again so I opted for the Philippine favorite which is pork tocino, 3 eggs any style and garlic rice. Being Filipino myself I had hoped for a better experience than my previous visit. But it was not very good. Sad to say I don't think I would want to give this place a 3rd try.

Poached eggs and Gloppy Goo

By johnfjohnston |

Breakfast items pretty ok. Hash browns crispy and the poached eggs right on the money. Chicken curry gloppy goo. Service pretty ok.

Great Food, Inexpensive Restaurant

By majuliainnapa |

We were in Vegas for 7 days and we had at least 1 meal here every day. Our go to breakfast was the Eggs Benedict. We also had their prime rib dinner for $9.99, we liked ours medium and they were perfect. You get all you can eat salad, a huge prime rib with mashed potatoes and green beans and my favorite cherries jubilee. One other favorite or ours is the oxtail soup, which is only served from 11 p.m. - 9 a.m. but totally worth the staying up for.

Good bang for your money

By changcreighton |

I went to this restaurant about 2 months ago. We had their special, miso butterfish. Normally when you go to a Japanese Restaurant to eat butterfish you get a very small small piece maybe 2' x 3". At the Market St Cafe the piece is very large about 4" x 4". The price is very reasonable too. Because we were staying there on their package deal, we had coupons for all the food. We paid I believe $4 and the hotel picks up the rest. What a deal. It's very delicious too. I'll definitly have it again.

Good for your buck

By michelledC6707YU |

Big portion for the price. Cheap eat and fill you up. Their oxtail is good, has a hint of sweetness from the mirepoix but lacking the punch. Their omelets are good and their steak were okay. Not bad if your looking for a cheap place to eat.

Don’t miss the Oxtail soup (fri/sat nights only)

By Jim W |

The cafe service is always excellent. What sets this casual cafe apart is the Oztail soup that is served Friday and Saturday nights only. This is the best in town and likely the southwest USA. This cafe is located in the Hotel California in downtown Las Vegas (not the strip). They have free validated parking. The oxtail soup is served starting at 11/00pm. You must line up before then and they start to seat you at 11. If you are not having oxtail soup, you can still get seated right away. There will be a line. I recommend that you get there 20 minutes early and get in line. If you miss the first seating the line can easily be 40 or more people waiting. They have lots of tables but this oxtail soup is really really good. Everyone should try this soup. It is the best.

Great Fusion of Hawaiian "Local" and American Food

By manu204 |

I was there with a fairly large group and we all had different selections, and they were all great. I had the loco moco and it was both great and huge! A member of our group had a coupon, which made a great deal even better. The service was a bit slow and the waiter made it a point to tell us how many tables he had as an excuse, but the food sort of made up for a bit of his shortcomings. It's a great place for us from the islands to get a little taste of home while enjoying the sights and fun of Vegas.

Best value, great food

By Ydnar |

I've had enough visits here to say it IS my favorite downtown restaurant in Vegas, definitely number one for value. This place has a huge menu and prices are very low, even without looking at the specials. I've never had a bad meal here, service is almost always very good, wait times are generally short and every dish I've tried has been really good, regardless of day or even how late it might be. Nothing fancy but the value is definitely there.

Staff was very busy, but attentive to our needs

By Thomas S |

After checking into the hotel and spending a few hours on the casino floor (totally enjoying ourselves!) my wife and I wandered into the Market Street Café and ordered off the Graveyard Special Menu. We both ordered the 2's Company with coffee and juice. The 2's Company consists of 2 eggs any style, 2 sausage or 2 slices of bacon and two large pancakes. We should have just ordered one with an extra plate! At $4.99 we could not go wrong. The food was plentiful and the coffee was hot and rich flavored. The juice was not watery or diluted! I must state that the servers were mostly seniors, so my wife and I fit in easily. Service coning out of the kitchen was a bit slow, but not bad. Other than that service was very prompt, professional and very polite. The restaurant itself was very clean for the amount of cusomers coming in, eating and leaving. Recommend highly and will return!

The Oxtail Soup is Worth It

By Kai P |

First time waiting in line at 11pm for the oxtail soup and it did not disappoint. In fact, its worth standing in line for! Tried lots of other things here like the hamburger steak, teriyaki chicken, ramen, won ton mein, and they're all delicious. Reminds me of home in Hawaii. It's worth it!

Wonderful!

By Kathy G |

This is definitely the go to place if you're tired of buffets (yes, that's possible) and just want something to eat that's great quality.

It wasn't bad.

By FromStoSW |

There were some things I didn't like about this meal. For one thing, we had to wait a while to be seated, even though there were plenty of open tables and plenty of employees milling about. Once we were finally seated, it took forever for our server to come and take our order. The server seemed rushed the entire time; although she wasn't unpleasant, she spoke zero pleasantries. From being in the restaurant business, I understand the rush that goes along with working a busy restaurant, but a simple pleasant greeting or even a smile wouldn't have been too difficult. The salad bar was not terribly fresh but had some good options. The cucumbers had been soaked in something spicy...not bad, but not my cup of tea, either. When the meals arrived, we were pleasantly surprised. The portions were large, and the food was quite good. My prime rib was delicious. My husband's New York Strip was a bit stringy but was good overall. The sides were good. The cherry jubilee dessert that came with my prime rib special was delicious. Overall, I'd probably give this place a 3.5 or so, but I just can't push it up to four stars. I'm reasonable about my expectations in regards to food vs. price and really have no complaints about the food. My problem is with the service...it's lacking. I know I wasn't at a fancy restaurant and didn't expect too much, but having to wait that long to be seated (when there are plenty of open seats) and to even have a server approach the table for a drink order is pretty unacceptable to me.

Good comfort food

By Detroit |

Great price and good comfort food, tasty salad bar. Big bowl of soup was amazing! Located inside the California Casino & Hotel. While we checked out the sights on Freemont we found this little Cafe on our way. Priced right - as it was hard to find food in Vegas that was not overpriced. Happy to have found this place.

Cheap Eats

By DJSpellBound |

For those who don't know, this restaurant is inside the California Hotel & Casino. Since I booked several nights here, I had to chance to visit this establishment on 3 different occasions. There was always a wait time to get into this place unless you're an Emerald / VIP status with Boyd. My wait times differed with the quickest time was at 7 in the evening with the worse time being at 11pm where we waited a solid half hour being only 3 parties deep in the line. Place was always busy. This place is known for it's Prime Rib so of course, that's what I got. Thick Cut, got it rare of which there will be a picture attached to show it off. (Some commentator said that it only comes medium and up which is absurd, it's prime rib) Fatty but tasty. Second meal I got was an omelette at 11pm at night and it was surprisingly tasty along with the hash browns. Usually hash browns ordered at that hour is generally horrendous but these were actually better than the omelette. Third meal was the breakfast buffet which was simply ok, but for the price I paid it was a pretty good deal. I was with 2 other people and if I was going to suggest anything after what they ordered, don't get any pasta dishes, it seems to be their weakest link at this place. All servers we had were pretty good, one of them was hard to understand, they had a pretty thick accent, which I am certainly not going to ding any points on especially on how busy this place was at all hours. You're certainly not going to get a 5 star meal here. You will get good food considering the cheap prices they have here. For myself and I don't want this to sound like an insult by any means, but if I was going to compare this to anything, it'd be like the 'best diner' food you can get. (For example, we all have 'diners' in our area where we live, some we avoid, some are 'ok', some are the go to place and this place is the go to place) Give this place a fair shake and try the prime rib.

Edible but cold, bland, unappealing food - not tasty

By Ronald Z |

Went there for breakfast because it was close and the coffee shop at our hotel was being renovated. Wanted a quick meal, Had the $7.49 buffet , didn't expect much and got less than I expected. I would say that having hot food stay hot would be the number 1 rule at a buffet. This one had most food cold. Portuguese sausage...cold. Hash Browns...cold. Eggs...cold. Hash - warm but greasy, Pineapple was very good and cold, but you really can't mess up pineapple. Should have known better, we went there about 8 months before for a quick bite and had the thinnest pastrami sandwich I ever had. If you want pastrami, try Binion's Del a half mile away, , it is more than twice as thick and much better. We will not come back.
