This place was on my list for a long time. Finally came in for lunch. Make a reservation, it gets crowded. The space has plenty of lights coming through the windows, very bistro-like decore. I started with bubbles and oysters. They only had one option of shellfish, I would have preferred some options. For lunch I had the steak tartare and a salad. The tartare was good, the toast was too salty. It was a light and satisfying lunch. I’ll have to try one of their sandwiches/burger next time. The rum punch cocktail was good, not too sweet just right.

Burger was tasty, fries almost inedible with them being so salty. Not sure how I feel value wise. $75 for burger and fries, tempura vegetables and an additional fries with a coke..

Met a friend here for dinner. The place was absolutely packed on a Wednesday night, so good that we had a reservation. We were at a small table by the door, which on a cool night was a little drafty. The tables are pretty close to each other, so this is not the place for a quiet conversation. The food was excellent! Try the deviled eggs! Also had the steak tartare and the broccolini - delicious! Would go back here for the food for sure. Great service, too. Definitely a happening place.

Stopped one afternoon on my way to the ball game, glad I did. Had the open faced deviled egg sandwich, basically a super fancy egg salad sandwich, very good. Also had 2 old fashioned’ very tasty. Short walk to the stadium. Trendy. Tasty. Unique menu.

This place has a great vibe to it when you dine here at night. It probably could do with more light but the lack of light helps with the ambiance. The service is good. Lots of servers and a nice welcome when you enter. For SF it's well priced. We had oysters to start. 6 for 19 bucks, small but nice. Soup was good and the pork chop was BIG. Unfortunately the jus and the tender stem broccoli were not up to scratch. The Jus had an interesting start of charred flavour which was ok to start but left a little taste on the palate. The wine was good and they have a great list of US, french and Italian. Bit pricey but it's San Francisco. The vanilla pod creme brulee was a good size but lacked the depth of vanilla that it promised. The accompanying shortbreads were burnt which didn't help. With all the staff not once did they ask if the meal was OK. I expect if they don't So they don't know .. all is good, but it would help get good feed back. Try this place it feels nice but may be we had one of its off days . It was full and after 9pm

From the moment I got in to when I left, everything was amazingly great. Once inside, you immediately forget that the location is not great. Indeed: - the service is courteous, professional and with attention to detail. - the food is incredibly tasty and well presented - the interior: cozy brasserie style - the bar: you'd like so simply stpend more time there ! - the prices: mid-range but definitely not exagerated. Good price/quality ratio.

This was an overly crowded but lively place. If you are looking for a loud and awkward dinning room, this is it. Bone marrow was underdone and had to be sent back, pork chop over cooked, dry, and chewy. I was really let down by this restaurant because it really has everything to be great, but seemed like the kitchen execution was really off that night. The one thing that was great was our server, she was thoughtful, kind, and attentive. She seemed to know the kitchen was off and did her best to make up for it. I wanted to leave right after dinner but she insisted I stay and brought me a birthday desert which was a brilliant gingerbread cake with a rich caramel sauce and cherries with cut down on the sweetness and blended well with the spice of the cake.

Expensive and trying way too hard to be cool. There was not a simple eggs with potatoes and side of meat - how hard is that? Oh wait, that’s not cool enough. Instead you could order two poached eggs on top of tiredly prepared kale with a slice of grit cake with a wee bit of gravy with underdone side of roasted carrots or a huge plate of polenta covered with slices of parmesean, scattered arugula (how clever) and one poached egg. We skipped the $7.00 toast. Really not worth it - go to Brickhouse instead.

Came here with some friends late at night for dinner. Truth be told, most of us were still full from lunch but we still wanted to grab a bite here. The restaurant was pretty much packed but they had a table for us and we didn't have to wait. We decided to get a bunch of starters to share and they all pretty much were awesome. We had: Toasted Pistachios, Crispy Brussels Sprout Chips, Steak Tartare, Grilled Broccolini, Spiced Jumbo Shrimp. The steak tartare was the best of starters, we should have ordered 2! and the Brussels Sprout Chips were #2. The Shrimp was really good too, it came with a spicy cocktail sauce and some celery sticks. I wish we had more celery sticks because that sauce was tasty. One friend had the Grilled Niman Pork Chop which was super juicy. We all had bites of it because he insisted we all try it :) This place is always busy, lunch and dinner. I would recommend reservations. Its a nice little restaurant that has a cool vibe. I love the lighting at night here, kinda seems romantic. Even though some of the tables seem close together, it didn't feel like we were right on top of one another, and we couldn't hear other people's conversations. I would recommend coming here.

We came for the burger but the Polenta stole the show! Such a decadent flavorful dish that I would highly reccomend!

We had a very enjoyable meal here on a busy Monday night. I had their burger and others had the sole and chicken. The starters were very good and we split a piece of gingerbread cake for dessert which was great. Service was very good. We were close to the door and there was a cold breeze when it opened. Try to sit away from the door.

We went to Marlowe for lunch and it was truly outstanding. We started with the tempura butternut squash which was excellent. Then we had the Marlowe burger which was one of the best we have ever had if not the best. Service was excellent.

What a wonderful find in Soma! We walked in on a busy Saturday night and were immediately brought the drinks menu so we could enjoy a glass before we were seated at the lovely bar. The food was absolutely divine. I am not a vegetarian and wasn't thinking straight when I ordered the polenta as I don't usually enjoy this. But the way it was served, with fresh mushrooms, arugula and delicious poached eggs, I'd instantly fly 5000 miles just for this dish. The wine tasted great too and I had a magnificent Californian brandy that, really, I'd also fly 12 hrs for just to have another glass. If I ever go back to SFO, this will be my first stop.

Marlowe is an excellent restaurant south of market in San Francisco. They have one of the best if the best hamburgers in San Francisco. They offer other excellent choices. Service is very good . You should get a reservation as it can be crowded.

Marlowe was highly recommended by friends who had been. We celebrated our son's 22nd birthday based on that. Our family of six was joined by a friend and her two kids- all kids are teens. We ordered drinks which my son enjoyed, but I didn't find to be very good. I think I had the farmers wife. Anyway , we got all sorts of appetizers which were mostly good, and slightly overpriced. Then we had dinner, which everyone enjoyed-especially those who got burgers! Servers were nice and professional throughout. My beef is with their idiotic policy of charging $5 per person to CUT and SERVE a cake my friend brought in for my son! That's $45 for a dessert that several of us didn't even eat- just to serve it. I have never heard of anything like that. It's just plain stupid to do that to a table of 9 who will spent at least $300 there. Kind of left a bad taste. I hope management reads this. I can understand somethings akin to a corkage fee, but make it a flat rate, like $5-$10 max!! You're cutting cake nothing more.

Group of 6 here for brunch on a Saturday morning. This is a bustling place and deservedly so. It is something of a hybrid I thought - tables packed in pretty close with limited space around them, looking like a cafe but with an extremely well stocked bar along the best part of one wall. This wasn't of interest to us as we were there around 11 but it leads me to imagine the atmosphere and feel is very different depending on the time of day. There were plenty of groups and couples eating when we were there but also several solos, using it almost as a coffee shop replete with open laptops. The service was very friendly and efficient. As I mentioned it is not huge and due to its popularity, it is loud. If you are looking for a quiet ambiance, you won't find it here. That's not a criticism since that's now why you come to a place like this, just be aware. Not sure if there is a different menu later in the day but I imagine so. We had a selection of breakfast/brunch type fare including french toast, deviled eggs (although that is an all round dish of course) but also fried chicken sandwiches. The food was good, not outstanding I didn't think, I had the fried chicken sandwich which was perfectly fine, but nothing really special. I would definitely come here again but not very often since it is an expensive place to eat for what it is. I know that SF is one of, if not the, most expensive city in the US but even so, well north of $200 for brunch (essentially breakfast) for 6 is a lot, fueled by the fact that there are no free refills here - want an extra Coke? Add another $5. I may just be out of touch with costs in the City but still, with no alcohol and 6 fairly standard dishes, this struck me as expensive. Having said that, it does have a charm and a good atmosphere and the food is perfectly good. There is a lot of character here for sure and I love that. The wait staff are numerous as well as friendly so you won't have any service issues I don't think. Again I wish that TA had a "good" rating between "average" and "very good" which is where this would fit

As noted in some of the other reviews this restaurant is in a neighborhood in transition - if you're walking from Union Square take 4th not 5th! We had a great experience here. We started with a special cocktail that had champagne and many other wonderful things and then had a bottle of rose. Our waiter sent the sommelier over and she was terrific - knowledgeable (as she should be) and eager to find us a wine that we would enjoy within our budget - and she nailed it. We shared the steak tartare to start and it was amazing. I had the polenta and my friend had the black cod. Everything was delicious, our meal was well paced and not rushed which can be an issue at a popular restaurant. The place was a bit noisy but not outrageously so. We were visiting and this was a recommendation from a friend who lives locally, I am jealous that he gets to go here all the time.

We stumbled upon this the night before and were able to get a late Sunday reservation. The place has character and an amazing atmosphere. We enjoyed two starters followed by two mains and shared a bottle of wine. Every part of the experience and dishes over delivered, we will definitely be back.

Everything was excellent! Party of 4 with reservations at 8:30 pm on a Saturday night. We were seated promptly upon arrival. Service: very attentive but not annoyingly so. Our water glasses were kept topped off all night which is really important to me as a big water drinker. Food: Haven't had food this great since I dined at Spoon and the Stable in Minneapolis! Who knew bone marrow was so delicious?! We also LOVED the Brussel sprout chips! For mains, I had the polenta: A+; 2 people had the burger: A; and my husband had the pork chop: A-. We ended the evening sharing the Panna cotta. Excellent all around!!

The food was great. That said, my dinner with colleagues laid us witness to one of the worst service experiences we had ever seen. First off the waiter looked like he had been in prison for some time with the metal in his nose and overall look. Equally, he exuded wanton indifference and threw off a negative vibe. The errors began we he forgot our small snacks, we ordered 3. Then he delivered our bottle water by slamming it down. On our first wine he pulled the corked, frowned, and then proceeded to pour, missing one of the 3 glasses. When he took our second food order he authoritatively informed us that we must order a starter and main at the same time as his eyes seared into our skin. A short while later we order another bottle of water and he proceeds to take our 1/3 full bottle off the table. The food was thrown at us in rapid fire succession and there was no gap between starters and mains, I guess we were lucky he forgot the snacks we ordered... After a few more missed wine pours and some frowns we asked for the check and left. The waiter was truly not in his best chosen profession, I leave open he had a bad day but the negative vibe and rank indifference made a stark impression on us.

Had an amazing lunch at Marlowe during my are in San Francisco. It's a very cute place that's small so I would recommend a reservation. The menu looked great but one dish that really stood out was the deviled egg sandwich. If you are a fan of deviled eggs I highly recommend ordering this as it is so yummy. Our group ordered different things (burgers sandwiches salads) and everyone really enjoyed their meal

Saturday afternoon stopped by with my wife for a nice lunch. Hostess quickly told us Bar Menu Only! Ok no big deal. Ordered a Hamburger and was NOT impressed. Wait staff was nice , but second wait person finished the table. Should probably have server explain reason for leaving an say good bye and T.Y.

We had a 3 courses meal with friends. Every course was a new suprice. High quality and great taste that started with the cocktails and continued through the appetizers, mains and dessert. And that then included all the dishes the 4 of us had. I took the squid and octopus salad which was really fresh and then Had the polenta with truffle which was to die for. Best meal I had for quite some time now. Service was as well professional. Don’t miss it while in SF.

The service is impeccable and the food is always delicious. This is one of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Love the deviled eggs, brussel sprout chips, little gem salad, and burger. Their cocktails are top notch as well. Love the More Cowbell.

We have been visiting the Bay area for several years, and Marlowe is always one of the first restaurants that we book ahead of our annual trip (which is highly recommended judging by the long line of prospective customers we saw upon our arrival last night). We've eaten there 7-8 times and have never been disappointed despite our high expectations. The ambience (cosy, buzzy, busy), food and service are all top notch. While the menu is fairly small, there are sufficient options for most palates - both vegans and carnivores will be satisfied. The burger and roast chicken were the standout dishes for us. A special thanks to our server, Cheyenne, who was excellent. We look forward to our next visit to Marlowe.

Very attentive and wonderful staff. The food is incredible. Our entire party loved all the items we ordered: bites / starters - chicken fried okra warm deviled eggs baked oysters baked bone marrow mains - stuffed petrale sole grilled niman pork chop poulet vert angus ny steak all dessert options are a win.

My friend and I had lunch here. We both had heard good things about the restaurant both online and from friends. We split the deviled egg sandwich and the shrimp roll neither of which I felt were exceptional. Frankly I'd rather just have deviled eggs and although my companion liked the shrimp roll I couldn't taste any shrimp just a very sour dressing. The portions were adequate and the prices were fair, but I don't think I'll be going back again.

Had brunch here before a Giants home game. The only seating was available at the bar, they were booked for the tables. I had the crab/shrimp frittata and it was perfect. No complaints with the dish, something I would highly recommend. The bartender also recommended a greyhound as my brunch drink, and that was tasty too! Great place to have brunch if you’re in the area.

Burrata was good but the bread that came with it was burnt. My pork chop was dry and burnt and drenched in a too sweet sauce. Bread pudding dessert was more like chopped up pieces of bread with some chopped apples on top. Very disappointing.

Four of us enjoyed a late dinner at Marlowe's recently. We had the small plates, appetizer's, served home style and really enjoyed the experience. Food was wonderful and the service was attentive. Atmosphere noisy and crowded but fun. Enjoyed it very much.

Had an early dinner with my family and we chose this restaurant because it it close to Pinterest and the Cal Train station. Absolutely delicious food. The service got off to a rough start, but evened out. Reasonable portions with savory flavors. Definitely recommend trying on your next trip to SF.

Had a great dinner at the Marlowe. All the food we had were excellent. We had the octopus and squid salad, sole, steak tartar, hamburger, cauliflower, and pear dessert. The only comment was they octopus and squid salad was light on the octopus and squid. It was very good otherwise. The pear dessert was excellent. It was like a hot apple crisp, but was made with pear and had toasted/roasted walnuts. Never had anything like this before and I would highly recommend. I will need to go back to try other items on the menu. Be sure to make reservations as theplace is small and crowded.

This is a GREAT brunch spot, especially if you're trying to impress someone with the SF brunch scene. I will forever take friends and visitors to this place when they come to visit. They had great small brunch starters (french toast bites, and doughnuts) and then the brunch itself was a winner. I had the salmon grilled bagel and nothing has ever tasted so good. My boyfriend got the burger and was impressed with its amazingness. I stole a bunch of fries because they were the perfect amount of crispy with great seasoning. We also got mimosas which were great (not cheap as far as brunch mimosas go, $10 - but that's not why you come here anyway). Service was great, too - we came here with 10 people, a baby, and someone who had an allergy to pepper, which they handled really well. The restaurant was really well decorated and had a cool, modern-rustic vibe to it. With the multiple starters, an entree, and a mimosa I think it came out to about $35-$40 per person, so not terrible for a solid brunch experience.

I made sure that booking at Marlowe was the first thing on my list for SF. The food was delicious, service flawless and drinks were fresh takes on classics. Highly recommend for a great dinner.

Marlowe has the kind of food I dream about - I just want to go back and try everything on the menu. We enjoyed the house made donuts, and fried chicken sandwiches along with the heavenly polenta. Nothing was ordinary - down to the fries. Yum. Love the vibe and decor and the service was great with attention to every detail. So glad we experienced Marlowe on our trip.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Marlowe. As a first timer, I was excited to see if all of the great reviews I’d heard were true. In a nutshell, I had wonderful experience. The atmosphere was intimate, yet casual. The tables were close together so if you’re looking for privacy, this might not be the venue for you. The wait staff was personable and attentive – always a plus. The downside (and this is by no means a reflection of Marlowe) was my meal. I had been craving a burger for over a week and opted for the Marlowe Burger. It was a decent choice but in the course of my 4 hours (yes, we spent 4 hours there ), I saw so many other options that looked amazing. I wish I had chosen something a little less mundane. The pork chops seemed to be very popular (and smelled amazing!). I’ll definitely be going back to sample other fare.

Mmmmmmm-arlowe. Yup, starts with that yummy goodness. I walked in and was instantly impressed and enveloped into the low lighting mystique of it all. Felt like my Monday evening got a lot more enchanting quickly. I sat at the bar as I was traveling solo for biz and did a quick intake of things being ordered and the polenta made me do a double take. I walked in fully intending on ordering a meat dish of some kind and scraped that idea in a flash once I laid my eyes on bowl of polenta perfection, aptly dressed by a broken poached egg yolk and getting chummy with wild mushrooms, Parmesan cheese, and peppery arugula to keep things bright. Damn. This was goooooood. And I have to say, the Brussels sprouts chips may have been the best I’ve ever had. I wish I order a double batch. Sheesh. This place is freaking tasty. Wish I could justify all my meals here in one trip, but alas, gotta try some other wonders. But I’ll be back next time I’m in town!

At 3pm on a Sunday this place was hoppin', but we were sat at a table quickly (<3 mins). Brussels, burger, soup, and fries were all great. Service was too. Good ambiance and a nice bar area too!

I have been going to Marlowe for many years, even prior to their move. Their move has brought out their best and it is just a super solid, mid-priced restaurant to go for lunch or dinner. The brussels sprouts are awesome, as is the ever tasty, juicy Marlowe burger. Yes, there are burgers everywhere but, theirs is unique and just simply one of the most delicious I have ever had. The wine list is really good and also affordable. The service is excellent. Friendly and super efficient. It is easier to drop in for lunch without a reservation but, dinner is another matter. They can be booked for a week, so I advise that you reserve for either lunch or dinner. The lack walk-in seating is testimony to just how good they are. You won't be disappointed.

Brenn here for dinner Loved everything Great IPA beer (but no draught) The half dozen oyster starter was awesome Out of mains I picked scalops which were nice. Not rocking. Reasons it didn't get a 5* are - - Very, very noisy - Not much of a variety. Only about 6 mains - No draught beer... really? But really a nice place Better to make a reservation in advance as it was packed and even though I was alone, they had to struggle and seat me at a table

While in jury duty, thought I'd treat myself to a nice lunch. I had room temperature soup and a tiny open faced egg salad sandwich... with a salad of plain greens. Not only was I disappointed, I think I was robbed. Oh yeah... more than 30 min between soup and pitiful excuse for a sandwich. Can't win them all. I will say the wait staff was charming and attentive. Not going back.

Oh.my.god, I can die happy now that I've eaten their bone marrow, it's butter like texture can wrap itself around my arteries for all I care. The Marlowe burger was amazing as was the Brussels sprouts chips (separated leaves deep fried), and their deviled eggs had the right combination of everything (I thought the pickled chili on it was the magic ingredient). Just take my money! I love this place.

My boyfriend and I have been here twice in the last 2 months and our experiences were consistent. We prefer to sit at the bar where we've had really friendly bartenders both times. With the exception of one server (female with short blonde hair) the staff all seemed very friendly and attentive. The aforementioned server walks around with a scowl and very curtly delivered our food to us....not sure what that's all about. They have a great atmosphere, with large windows throughout that let in plenty of natural light, and it's laid out well. Their burger is delicious -- definitely try! I do wish they had at least one cheap-ish beer option. We'll be back!

We were told to arrive at 2pm latest to get their brunch menu. We arrived at 2pm sharp - we crossed down with our baby - only to be told that we had to be there at 1:45pm. No effort whatsoever to accommodate us, although we were there with our 6 month old. Overrated and obnoxious.

SOMA San Francisco: Marlowe’s 5th and Brannon. SOMA (South of Market Street) is a neighborhood of deep contrasts – still dominated by old warehouses, rundown buildings that slip between them and littered with the homeless. The current state is one on converted warehouses for companies like Zappos and Lyft, condos for millionaires, and many, many restaurants. Coming back from Sonoma, we met my uncle at Marlowe’s near his apartment. He wanted to have dinner at IHOP (He once took me to Hooter’s on Fisherman’s Wharf for oysters, go figure!). Once we put that idea 6-feet under, we met at Marlowe’s and had a fantastic dinner. The restaurant definitely carved out a focus – when you see bone marrow as an appetizer, what’s the clue? Maybe that the bathroom wall paper was made of drawings of a cow, each section numbered for the butcher. Classic, old-fashioned butcher paper. So, while meat dominates the bathroom and menu, they also have incredibly fresh vegetables and salads. Some things to try? The flash fried brussels sprouts starter; really, I have never seen anything like it and as someone who is ambivalent of this vegetable (though relieved it seems to be replacing kale for share-of-voice) this was crisp, light, amazing. Almost like potato chips made of sprout leaves. The pumpkin soup was thick and savory. A little wentalong way, but only because the flavor was so…dense. Perhaps the best appetizer was the beet and smoked salmon salad. The chef stacked three little towers of red beet, tomato, gold beet, smoked salmon folded on top. As for entrees, we all ordered hamburgers – though looking around among the somewhat tight tables and the white tiled room – every dish looked great proven by the smiles of those eating. The staff moved fluidly and with a positive vibe which given the crowded room, was graceful and made you feel good about the place, beyond just the food.

I went to Marlowe two times, both times with friends. It is a very small space which fills up quickly. That being said, they do offer bar seating & you can order off the menu at the bar as well which is nice. The menu is very limited but I am assuming their motto is "quality over quantity." We ordered the fried brussel sprouts which were good, the deviled eggs & oysters. Everything was delicious, cooked perfectly & very flavorful. The wine list was decent but likewise very small/limited. Was nice to try this SOMA hotspot but not sure if I will be back...just really not a fan of the cramped feel it has & the menu does not change frequently enough give how small it is.

They many cute house dishes... usually small plates... service is fast and smiley.. very nicely located..

We were recommended to Marlowe by friends on our recent visit to San Francisco. Their meals and choices were excellent as well as great wine selection and excellent service. Would highly recommend.

Nice cozy restaurant for after work drinks or dinner. Loved their cocktails and snacks. Friendly and prompt service. We were their for drinks and enjoyed it.

Great atmosphere and very busy at 6.30pm on a week night. Service was attentive and cheerful; menu was sensibly limited, though providing a decent choice. Cocktails were really delicious. The food was a bit under- whelming & over-priced. The burger was very good value ($19) but the scallops lacked flavour and quantity. Desserts were nothing very special.

Good burger, noisy and fun. Just good food, nothing special. Decor is tile, tables are close. Liked it, nothing special.

First time visit - well, second visit but first lunch experience. We work nearby so stopped by about 12:30 yesterday but wait was a while so we made reservation for today - recommended for lunch visits from opening until about 1:30 when some tables were open. Otherwise seems quite busy with the suit crowd - or what passes for a suit nowadays ! We started with Brussel sprout chips with lemon and sea salt. They were light and airy despite leaving oil on our fingers, but not really something to fill you up. At just under $10 a nice try, but would skip them next time. Entrees were a cheeseburger and the open faced egg salad sandwich with pickled jalapeño and provolone cheese (also comes with two strips of bacon but I went vegetarian ...). Side of fries with garlic aioli dip rather than salad (salads I saw coming in were just green piles of - well, salad!) was perfect! Shared (but could've eaten all by myself!) a cauliflower and cheese casserole. The sandwich was very good, on a light bread with mildly warm jalapeños - not too hot. The deviled egg was deliciously seasoned. The provolone was also a good pairing. The cheeseburger was on a nice bun (looked like an egg glaze?) with lots of condiments and was cooked perfectly to medium rare. Cauliflower is not a favorite of mine, but I'll eat this dish anytime. Well seasoned cauliflower with cheeses melted on top - the cheese was darkened (not my style) but didn't detract from overall taste in this dish. Both white and orange cauliflower was used for a nice visual variety. The drinks (water and iced tea) were kept filled by attentive staff, dishes cleared promptly. Noise level was very loud - not sure why, but it is a smaller dining area with tables close to each other (and some searing at the counter as well). Overall a great meal and nice experience. Would bring someone here as a guest to make a nice impression if business related - I think that's what many were there for judging by the conversations I heard around me, but a family with very young children (8 and under) also sat next to us at one point and the kids enjoyed their meals as well, so it seems a nice family option, too.

It was Mothers' Day and we had a reservation at Marlowe for brunch. Lucky us, as the Giants were playing the Rockies that day and the fans were out in full force and hungry after their team's win the day before. Marlowe is retro-looking with its crisp white walls and floors. It's like an old-fashioned diner from the 40s but with a bar and a great brunch menu. I had the grilled asparagus, poached egg with chorizo and my companions had the Marlowe burger and an egg frittata special. My was good and not overly filling. The coffee is not great, just okay, and charged by the cup (not cheap). The service is good, not oppressive, and friendly. Marlowe is a good place for brunch. Perhaps it's a little over-rated and resting on its laurels but that's okay, for a while.

This was my first time at Marlowe, and my expectation were definitely met. Thankfully I had a reservation as it was really busy, I was seated right away. The burger was cooked just right and very tasty. There's an excellent, extensive selection of beer and wine. The food came out fairly quickly, and the service was really good & friendly. The price was fair..

We ate here before heading to see Volta. Mostly because of both the location and a recommendation of a local who swore by it. I had the sole, my sister had the chicken and my daughter a burger. My fish was cooked beautifully, but arrived like lukewarm and totally underwhelming in the acommanying flavors. Very disappointed. My sisters chicken was very good, large portion, seasoned nicely. My daughters burger was a burger, she liked it, but what 12 year old doesn’t like a burger? The service seemed odd. It felt like they didn’t want us there and were perplexed that we’d found them and made reservations. Like I said, odd. Overall I was disappointed. But, I believe everyone can have an off night, so I would give them another shot, if only because there’s a nice vibe to the space in general.

Marlowe has much going for it, and is a very popular restaurant that draws a lively crowd on most evenings. Our party of seven had a very nice time, but we were expecting much more from this place. First things first, the night we dined here it was packed. We were squeezed in very tight with literally no room to move. If you're claustrophobic you may wish to take this into account. And, it was loud the entire evening. Not just a little loud, but really loud. Normal dinner conversation doesn't work here; you almost have to shout so those sitting across from you can hear. We could handle the tight seating and the noise, but the dinner menu was really limited. Not that many choices, and some strange entrees at that. After you zero in on what you understand and what you want, there were only three or four items that were possible selections for myself. In the end, I had to choose between an $18 cheeseburger and a $39 steak. I thought this was kind of odd. They do have unique appetizers here, and the crispy Brussel sprout chips were really good. When we did get our meals, my burger was very good but my wife was very disappointed with her pork chops and said they had more fat on them than she preferred. In hindsight she should have sent them back. We were too full to consider dessert which was probably a good thing because with tax and tip the bill was roughly $440 for our party of seven. With such a limited menu there are better choices in this part of San Francisco for that price.

We didn't have a strong plan, and were close to Marlowe and gave it a try. The meal was excellent from wine to starters to the main course. I don't love ribeye, but I am a sucker for chimichurri, and I ended up with the best meal during my time in San Francisco. The fried Brussel sprouts were fun and tasty. This was such a find, and I didn't find it pretentious as some of the reviewers; quite the opposite. The staff were down to earth and had great advice for our meal.

What a gem of a restaurant. Touted as the place for San Francisco's best burger, Marlowe didi not disappoint. I enjoyed a half dozen oysters followed by a perfectly cooked cheeseburger. Service was friendly and efficient. The place seemed to have a positive "buzz" and energy about it. It was hopping. I will definitely return.

We have been living in San Francisco for 6 months and have been to Marlowe every week so far. It has become a home from home. The venue is cosy and stylish but not over the top. The team are great and super attentive, if you drank all the water they poured for you, you may drown - it keeps coming! The drinks menu is short and simple but has everything you want and the wine and cocktails are of a great quality. Now, the food!!! It's great...we have tried it all. My wife's favourite (she is vegetarian) is the Tomato Soup, followed by the Broccolini as an entree. My favourite is the Cauliflower Cheese to start (it's a side but makes an excellent starter), then the Steak (add some Marlowe fries), the Sole, Chicken and Burger are excellent too. Then there are the deserts, very special. We have had the same two every visit (that's 20 plus times). We order two, the Chocolate Cream Pie and the Chocolate and Peanut Butter bites. We then push the bites into the cream pie and eat them as one. It is dreamy! Then to polish it all off they do a great Irish Coffee. Simply put we say about Marlowe - Nice ambience - Home from home - Friendly team - Super helpful - Nice drinks list - Yummy food - Fab deserts - Our favourite We would love to see a Marlowe in London - it would go down a storm!

I have walked past this restaurant many times on the way to Oracle Park (about 4 blocks away) for a Giants game. There's a $20 parking lot nearby if you dont mind walking to game. It was always quite crowded. You should make a reservation before going. Main dining room is not that big and seating can be a little tight. There is a very nice bar. Also a small dining area in the back with kind of a garden setting. Staff was very attentive and friendly. They serve very good burgers and fries. I ordered the pork chop and it was very good. Probably 8oz. and came with 2 ribs attached and glazed with a sweet sauce. Served on a bed of sauteed corn, fava beans and peppers. Seems like a good place for cocktail after game too.

Cuisine was light but savoury. We enjoyed the burger, black cod, and spicy jumbro shrimp. We were sat out on the patio which was quaint and tastefully decorated. Service was excellent... above and beyond expectations even.

Went for brunch and we had the tomoto baked eggs, warm kale egg dish, bloody Mary, and randomly some prawns and it was great. Going back this morning before we leave. Service was great, moderately priced, and is OPEN SUNDAYS.

Fun Brunch restaurants with a positive vibe! Servers and bar tenders were great. I would return! Menu was enticing and we all had a wonderful meal made with fresh ingredients.

My boyfriend and I were headed to the Giants game on Thursday afternoon, and we decided to eat lunch at Marlowe instead of the park. That was an AWESOME idea. Where do I start with the awesomeness that is Marlowe? First, the wait staff and manager know their business, it was a full room at 11:30am and everyone was getting top service. The fried chicken sandwich was the BEST I have ever had...juicy and full of flavor. It is a small place, so not great for large groups, but perfect for a couple or a foursome.

Stopped in while in San Francisco. The burgers are amazing - one of the best I have ever experienced. I would highly recommend to anyone!

It was Valentine's Day dinner. Even that we have reserved the table in advance we had to wait when we arrived. This place was packed . Tables are located so close goes h other that you can't reLy move your elbow freely. It's very uncomfortable seating and it's extremely loud. The dining room is very unattractive . It was pre set Valentine's day disaster-$85+tax & tip. (4 course )Wine is charged separately. It's a daylight robbery considering that you get for your $$$. Service us inattentive and chef is simply greedy. First course consisted of ONE backed oyster!!!!. I said to the waiter this plate is too much. It's just unbelievable that for$85 per head they can't even serve you with dissent quantity of food. It's a simple greed. Wouldn't recommend it in any occasion and especially for bug ones. Waist of money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were staying on Brannan Street for a week and every time we passed by, the place was FULL FULL FULL which says something about a restaurant. We ate here on a Sunday afternoon when they were serving the bar menu and it was much less crowded and very pleasant. The food was fantastic - starting with the jumbo shrimp, moving on to the Marlow burger and ending with the chocolate cream pie and pannacotta with sorbet and strawberries. All were prepared perfectly - the dipping sauce for the shrimp was so delicious that I ate what was left in the bowl with a spoon after the shrimp were eaten, the burgers were deliciously juicy and flavorful and the desserts were gorgeous to the eye and so yummy! Would definitely eat here again on our next trip to SF!

The place was hopping and we still got good service. We loved our drinks the “west bay sparrow” ! We chose the Anton Mills Polenta and Open faced Ruben. The food came out quick. Both were fresh and delicious. We finished our brunch with 2 espresso and 1 Loretta’s Vacherin . Staff was welcoming and friendly.

Great night of fantastic food, delicious drinks and superior service. This is a must go zone. Generous servings so great to share.

Food was great, atmosphere was fun and we enjoyed ourselves. Would come here again next time we're in SF.

Kickass upscale burger bar with a solid cocktail list. GF had the Juicer which was very spicy but good tequila cocktail - anyone who like spicy drinks should try. Also, the deviled eggs are not to miss.

When you look to another table and see the same entree that you ordered and its appeal and presentation is so different, you know there is a problem. The Egg Benedict was not poached and came as a blob over a very mushy crab cake. Very disappointed with taste and overall appeal. I was hungry and left half of it on the plate untouched.

Beautiful and fresh place, ideal for a lunch or brunch. Fantastic burger and very good cocktails, i took an excellent moscow mule, a bit expensive but absolutely recommended

We came here on one of our nights in san fran. We were staying at a airbnb just down the street so it was convenient. The restaurant is very cute. Would be a nice date night spot. The hostess was very warm and friendly and we were seated within about 10 mins without a reservation. The menu is certainly unique! I liked how you could order a single baked oyster. They also had bone marrow. Didn't try but many seemed interested by it. My only complaint was that I found all the food to be very salty. The salad, soup and meat. And I'm not one to think things are over salted.

Non-fancy but high quality. a great place to meet friends and relax with great food and excellent drink.

Pretty fancy place in San Francisco. It is very noisy and loud but that gives the place its fancy atmosphere. The marlowe burger is pretty much the best burger we had so far in the US and the price (about USD 18) is totally fair. We loved it and we would recommend this hot spot to everyone!

The Polenta with Salsa Verde is to die for and that is coming from a big meat eater. That's all you need to know ;)

Amazing burgers, cool atmosphere and outstanding dessert! Also, contrary to some other people's experience, we had great service. Oh and almost forgot about the interesting and tasty gin cocktail. Worth the visit.

A lively, hip restaurant in the former industrial hinterland of the docks. Small, busy, long bar with at-bar dining, very stylish modern decor (white lavatory tile style). Crammed with vocal young trendies (our daughter-in-law selected this 'happening' place for our birthday treat to her and my wife and I raised the average age considerably!) Excellent range of interesting house cocktails, a good menu and good well-presented food. A painfully large bill for four at the end, but we had a great evening.

After an afternoon show of Cirque du Soleil at AT&T Park Marlowe was the perfect place to refuel with both food and drinks. Show let out mid afternoon and at that time there is not a lot of sit down places serving food, especially on Sunday in that part of town. Marlowe was serving their limited "Bar" menu but for us that was not a problem. Started with some crispy Brussel sprout chips, warm deviled eggs and fries with horseradish aioli. Loved them all, especially the deviled eggs which came with aged provolone, pickled jalapeno and bacon. They were exceptional. We all followed with the Marlowe burger and you can believe the hype. Came out a perfect medium rare as suggested by our server and was delicious. Came with carmelized onions, cheddar, bacon horseradish aoili and fries. Very tasty and a good size burger. I had a craft beer which hit the spot (long drive ahead) and others had the cocktails which were excellent. Had a taste of the Juicer and it was creative with a spicy kick. Shared one dessert, the German Chocolate Cream Pudding and it was spot on with coconut, walnuts, marcapone cream and cocoa nibs. Yum!. Service was friendly and helpful throughout the meal. Based on our visit I would definitely go back for dinner and sample more of the complete menu.

A few friends and I went to Marlowe last weekend, as we had heard very good things about it. We were not disappointed! The food and the service were both fantastic! Our server, Jeff, really helped us with menu selections and provided outstanding service throughout the meal. He was very friendly and attentive. We started with bloody Marys - be forewarned - their bloody Mary mix is very spicy! We then ordered the warmed deviled eggs. They are priced individually, but we ordered one each and that was all we needed. They are made with bacon and jalapeños...need I say more? The fried chicken sandwiches are delicious. A chicken breast is pounded, lightly breaded and served crispy, and it stays crispy. The Marlowe burger is great; it is served with cheddar cheese, bacon and horseradish aioli. For dessert, we shared some warm house made cookies...yum! Overall, the meal was very enjoyable. HINT #1: Make reservations...this is a very popular place! HINT #2: The menu is a bit limited, so you might want to check it out on line beforehand. HINT #3: Marlowe is wheelchair accessible. PS. One of my cats is named Marlowe!

I absolutely loved this place! I tried it for the first time for dinner during my recent visit to SF. I showed up without a reservation but they were very accommodating despite being packed. I ended up getting a spot at the bar. Service was wonderful and so was my meal. I didn't think polenta could be ever be this delicious. And The Florist was delightful too. Overall, this place is wonderful. If you're staying in the area, this should be your first stop without a question!

Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Very busy place at noon. Had to sit on stools against the window. Service was great. Food was also pretty good. I think they are known for their burger. I definitely loved the Brussels sprouts, and I had the deviled egg sandwich. The pistachios were also a great start to the meal.

I enjoyed the experience overall but it was hard to have a conversation as it was quite noisy. Some of food seemed a little too salty. We tried (names will not reflect the menu names) the burrata toast, salmon and cucumber, polenta, cauliflower. It was agreed that the burrata was the best. The cauliflower was very salty. The staff was excellent. I arrived with a small suitcase expecting to have to cram it between my legs under the table or something but they were able to hold it for me. (Without my even asking) They were also quick for water refills and checking on us. Wines by the glass were pricy to us but perhaps that's the norm?

Had a lovely early dinner at Marlowe's this past weekend after a show! Two of my co workers had recommended the restaurant very highly. The Marlowe burger is delicious! Bacon, cheddar cheese onions... It did not even need any mustard or ketchup! We started with the flash-fried Brussels sprouts seasoned with sea salt and lemon zest. They were delicious... My 11 year old son loved them! I would definitely go back here again! Oh btw I believe they actually grind their own beef for the burgers! 😀

I had a Christmas Eve brunch here and had very high expectations after great experiences at sister restaurants Park Tavern and Cavalier. This was the single worst service experience I have ever had at any restaurant in my entire life. First, and certainly most forgivable, the metered parking out front had so many warnings and times you could and could not park there I couldn't figure out for the life of me if I could park there on a Sunday morning or not. I ask the hostess as we walked in if I was good where I parked and she had no idea. A little odd not to know if your customers can park in the spots right in front of your restaurant, but okay, I moved my car to be safe. With all the construction around there it took me 10 minutes to get around the block, almost got dropped on the Bay Bridge, it was great. When the hostess goes to seat us there's about 3 groups of people for 25 tables and she plops us right next to this couple in a weird corner table where my wife and I literally could not fit both of our legs without resting them against eachother and my wife is 5"1. And the couple next to us was totally oblivious and the woman had her huge purse right where my wife was supposed to sit and didn't do anything to move it. Hostess really should have noticed that, but didn't catch it at all. I stood up and was just like, we need a new spot, that's not working for us. She moved us to a much better location, great. Then we get the waitress helping us out who I would best describe as completely hostile. At one point my wife turned to me and said, I think she wants to tackle me and I have no idea why! She came up to me about 15 seconds after I sat down from moving my car and asked if I was ready to order my meal, and I said I needed a few more minutes and she was NOT pleased with that response clearly. So that was also lovely. Then we order our food, and in spite of the fact she was clearly taking her life into her own hands by doing so with the aforementioned waitress, my wife asks if she can (gasp!) get no truffled salsa verde on the polenta. Because honestly why any decent restaurant would taint their food in 2017 with truffle oil, I can't imagine, but okay. The waitress surprisingly says that will be fine, great! Food comes out and it just reeks of truffle oil and you can literally see it dripping off the polenta (which by the way was about 3/4 greens which wasn't even in the description, so I would not recommend that dish, egg was cooked perfectly however). My wife says, ummm, I ordered no truffle oil. The server, different guy from our beloved waitress, says yeah, there's not truffle oil on there. My wife points to a dripping piece of spinach and says, I can see it right there dude! He says, oh, I'll take care of that. Takes it back, and brings the plate back 3 minutes later like he just completed the Sistine Chapel with his correction to this dish, and it literally still reeks of truffle oil, though to his credit it is no longer dripping off the spinach. My wife sucks it up and just eats it, fine. Only later am I haunted by the vision of Horatio Sanz in the 90's comedy Road Trip licking off the unwanted condiments (among other things) and just sending it back out. Again this is a 16 dollar breakfast dish, they should have re-fired it for sure considering they clearly messed up the order or if you can't do substitutions just say it. All is not lost however, the huevos rancheros that I had were incredibly creative and delicious and whoever was cooking the eggs that day was on fire because they were perfectly runny without appearing undercooked. The bloody mary (they call it something else) was also fantastic, nice and spicy. And again, this may have been a Christmas Eve debacle on their part, but it was a debacle of epic proportions i must say. I have not left a really crappy tip in at least 10 years out of spite, but I recalled tipping the cleaning ladies in the hotel $5 and I was like there's no way i'm going higher than that for this level of service. I will certainly return to the sister restaurants in the near future (I would tolerate just about any form of treatment for a Marlowe Burger), but it just won't ever be at this location again that's for sure.

Marlowe's is the kind of restaurant you hope to find when you're visiting a city: out of the way, filled with locals enjoying good conversation with good food and good service. Although we didn't have a reservation on a Saturday night, our party of three was greeted warmly and seated almost immediately. The service was great with our server bringing several samples of wines for us to try with our entrees. The Brussels sprout chips were a great appetizer and the Marlowe burger was delicious. We had an incredible dining experience and plan to eat at Marlowe's again before leaving San Francisco.

One of my friends recently said the service wasn't great here but I had a wonderful experience. I ordered the ricotta toast and asparagus, poached egg and chorizo and it was all delicious. I can't wait to come back and try dinner here.

We ate dinner and were pleased with the loud and vibrant ambiance. The chicken corn soup was decadent and tasty. The burrata appetizer was good, but was more like a bruschetta. Mains were good but not great. Service was friendly, but inconsistent.

Perhaps we are two greenhorn Brits without much experience of good burgers - but we had the famous Marlowe burger and agreed it was the best burger we have ever had. Tasted more like a fine and perfectly cooked cut of soft beef than a burger. Excellent fries too. The place has a good buzzy vibe and was full on the Monday night we visited- an indication that others shared our enthusiasm. Good Merlot by the glass to go with our burger. I have not yet forgiven my wife for forcing me to share my Loretta's Vacherin was was also very good. Only reservation was on our starter of squash blossoms which did not quite live up to the rest of the meal.

Very special menu with irregular healthy dishes. It is a local restaurant. Nice people come in for dinner. You can stay longer and have some coctail at the bar.

This is a great neighborhood restaurant, all the food was delicious, the prices are reasonable, and the staff was very friendly. We started with some deviled eggs and the shrimp and crab fritters. Both were really good, and just enough to start the meal. For dinner I had the burrata and steak tartar, the steak was good, but the burrata was fantastic. The grilled bread and peaches, it was just perfect.

We went here on a Saturday evening with friends. The entire experience was wonderful and I highly recommend it! We had an 8:30 reservation. We arrived a few minuets early and the hostess was warm and welcoming; our table was not yet free, but it opened up around 8:35p. I was impressed that those waiting for tables could order drinks without even needing to go to the bar. The vibe was great--it's a relatively small place, with the tables pretty close together, and that creates a really nice buzz. The noise level was energetic but not so loud that we could not enjoy each other's company and conversation. The decor was nice--rustic modern. There was enough lighting to see the menus. It just felt like the perfect energy and space for a special dinner out with friends. Service was top-notch throughout the whole meal: our server was knowledgeable and friendly but not intrusive. She answered questions about the cocktails and menu with complete ease. Our water glasses never went unfilled. Pacing was spot-on and dishes were cleared quickly. A totally seamless evening, just like you want at a nice restaurant. The cocktails were gorgeous. The Boulevardier was perfectly mixed and served at exactly the right temperature. A negroni used Aperol and this lightened the bitterness a bit for a really smooth drink. The Pimm's Cup was refreshing and well-made. The wine list was also appealing--nice selections and of manageable size. When we ordered a bottle for our main courses, they timed the pouring perfectly. The food was great--everything was well-executed. The crispy Brussels sprouts chips were a salty, crunchy way to whet the appetite. The burrata, served on tasty bread with fresh figs on top, had wonderful flavor. An squash soup was a perfect way to begin autumn, and the summer squash caesar, perfectly dressed, was a nice take on the kale caesar phenomenon. Mains impressed, too. The chicken was perfect--moist and juicy, and the sweet potato puree and pancetta/Brussels sprouts hash was a great accompaniment. The pork chop was perfectly cooked--it retained its moisture despite the thickness. The polenta with mushrooms and parmesan, topped with some fresh arugula, was rich and earthy; it was great to have a vegetarian dish of this quality. Truly perfect execution of every element--service, drinks, atmosphere, food.

The starters are the highlight of the evening. Burger is over rated but delightful eats. Spend more time sampling the starters and second courses, entres are ok but not the main event here.

Marlowe - could not get a reservation the week before except for 9:15 I think. But they have a communal table up front where we were seated at about 8:30. We were happy with that and then as soon as we sat down they had a cancellation and we got put at a regular table for 2. Even better. Had the fish an the burger/fries - both excellent. Apps were great as well. Staff super duper friendly. Crowded and a tad cramped but that made it even better. Loved the last dinner vibe you cant find in AZ. Great service. Amazing chocolate cream pie for dessert. Butcher's mistress drink also great. In SOMA part of town not far from ATA&T Park. Highly recommended!!!

We ate here in July 2016 on a visit to SF, had a great meal and returned this week for a repeat performance. Again ate at 5:00 pm pre Giants game so were offered the bar menu. Started with the Little Gem salad - beautiful and delicious! Had the shrimp (like last time, slurped up the dipping sauce after the shrimp were eaten) and the burger - both were great. Desserts were the Olive oil cake with vanilla ice cream and blueberries and a chocolate something with meringue, coffee ice cream, chocolate sauce and toasted almonds. Both FANTASTIC! Service was attentive and friendly - all in all, another great meal.

The menu offered a variey of items appropriate for a pre-party before the Giants game. Our group of four waded through several appetizers. The crispy Brussels sprouts chips and grilled Gulf shrimp (with "hot & boozy cocktail sauce") stood out. Two of my friends enjoyed the Marlowe burgers. I kinda wished I had ordered one. So sad. Of course, high-falutin Dennis whinged a few times, "this is not as good as Momo, that is not as good as Momo, . . . ." But what does Dennis know? Nuttin'. Though the prices were a bit high, three of us (not named Dennis) agreed to make Marlowe our pre-game spot. Check it out. -- workingman's gourmand

We were very impressed with Bothe the location and ambiance - charming. The menu was great- so many entrees that we were impressed with...Great service...top flight. We all had various hearty burgers that were superb. Our Drinks were terrific! The waiter was attentive and unassuming...perfect. Mere steps away from the ballpark...actually considered going back to Marlow post game!

You need to reserve to eat here and for good reason, It's extremely popular. It's not a cheap meal but the quality is excellent. We loved the pate, burrata, burger and the wine and cocktail selection. I had the appetiser burrata as my main and it was absolutely divine. Will definitely be eating here again.

Last Sunday brunch before vacating my apartment and saying good bye to San Francisco. SOMA used to be a real dive, however this place is a buzzy and popular venue. Menu is adventurous without being weird, prices about right. Service prompt and waitress good value...give it a try.

I was there with a group of business colleagues feeling apprehensive and anticipating an unremarkable meal of uninspired food at this ostensibly average looking place, but I was surprised with a delicious meal that felt like a direct and unfiltered access to the flavor of the food. There was no pretense; there were no culinary tricks and no distractions. Very satisfying. Worth it and would go again.

We stopped for a late lunch& early dinner on Saturday, the menu was short... since dinner starts at 17:00. We all had hamburgers and we all loved them. Great horseradish aioli with a twist. Carrot cake was nice. Cocktails & beer as well. Service was excellent.

I went to Marlowe on a Saturday afternoon on my own. The staff is super friendly, the menu is healthy and delicious and the cocktails and wine selection is awesome. Classy but relaxed...try to jumbo shrimp cocktail...practically a meal into itself!

Kismet! Our parking garage for the big Baseball Game was kitty corner from Marlowe and we decided to gamble and have dinner - pre game. How bad could it be? We were impressed the minute we walked in - belly-upped to the bar...oh,man....The bar is so cool...the bartender was a true Mixologist! We were enamored and very happy quaffing couple of drinks pre- dinner. We thought the bar was impressive...as we were seated for dinner and perused the menu - we knew we were in for an experience. Let me say - we happily missed an inning or two as we were so taken with the Scallops, the Grilled Ribeye...All of us happy diners cannot wait to return.

Charming modern little eatery in SoMa, about a 15-minute walk from Union Square. We had 5:30pm reservations on a Monday, and the place was already bustling mostly with locals, which felt like a good sign. We kicked things off with the Crispy Brussels Sprout Chips. Paper-thin layers of fried brussels leaves nicely seasoned with a subtle lemon fragrant and served in a cute little tin pail. A fun, salty starter to get the tastebuds warmed up and it also paired nicely with a glass of crispy white wine. For mains, we shared the Mediterranean Octopus & Manila Clams in a tomato chorizo sauce, and the Grilled Broccolini. Unfortunately, this is where the meal hit a few bumps. The tomato sauce on the seafood dish was quite salty, the clams were chewy, and the octopus was sparse. Although, admittedly the tomato sauce had a generous amount of ground chorizo, giving it the richness and texture of a spicy ragu. That was almost a meal in itself. It also took a full 40 minutes to arrive, and we had to flag down our server to check on it. The broccolini were well executed to a nice tender-crisp texture and a punchy garlic-chili-lemon dressing. Dessert was definitely a winna!! The Chocolate Peanut Butter Bites were adorable little cubes of Guittard chocolate and peanuts with just the right balance of sweet and salty. We took most of it back and snacked on it them the next day. While we waited for our food, we noticed most tables were grinding the burgers, which definitely seemed to be the menu's golden child. If we were to come back, it'd be to try that. Service was friendly but noticeably slow. It took a while before anyone acknowledged us after we were seated, and even then, it was just water with a promise to return for our order. We heard good things on Yelp and wanted to give this place a go. Maybe it was just an off night. Happy Eating

Tempted in by the Brussels Sprout chips however the sweet corn soup trumped it. Polenta with mushrooms got an approving nod from our waitress whilst the pork chop was a great slab of perfection. However youngest want to proclaim the burger her best ever.

We popped in here for dinner last night. Delightful service, delicious food and a great ambience. We both had Steak for main-perfectly cooked and beautifully seasoned. The dish came with fondant onions which were care eluded perfectly. Highly recommended.

We started off with the homemade donuts (5 for $10) - yummy - more like a fritter. Our group had the polenta, the frittata, the chicken sandwich and the hash brown benedict. Bloody Marys are very spicy - which is great because you only need one! We sat in the patio in back. Very good service. Our tab was somewhat higher than it would be if we had gone to another place for standard omelets but it felt like a treat and I would go back.

Interesting and inventive menu, cocktails and wine list Killer steak tartare, followed by very tasty ribeye Colleague had the black cod that looked great

Great food, super friendly service. Everything we had was great, the burrata toast was by far my favorite. It’s a perfect neighborhood spot for tasty comfort food.

Nice place, the steak tartare v good and ribeye also. All in all a pleasant experience, but the distance between the bar and the tables is not enough, anyone passing by will brush against your back when you sit at the bar. It gets you in the end...

Excellent setup and staff. Very friendly and helpful. Food was great, best steak I’ve had in a while. Little cramped, but added to buzz. Great anniversary dinner.

Food was terrible , shrimp cocktail was sent back, Hamburg was sent back, porkchop was hard as a piece of stone, my grand son could not it that, fish did not have any flavor, cookies could broke my tooth, coffee never came, We were served in a storage room called patio, narrow tables, uncomfortable chairs, terrible heater , and fake plants maid my birthday celebration a disaster.

We did not stumble on this place but what a great find. We had a party of 5 that enjoyed everything we ordered. The Brussel Sprout chips were incredible along with Fried Okra and Deviled Eggs. Everything was delicious. The burger is a one of a kind that you have to try! I don't know what they do, but it is fabulous. Pricey appetizers and entries but well worth the experience.

Stopped in for a breakfast with friends. We ordered the candied bacon, a must. We ordered 2 orders for 4 of us. Each order has just one really thick piece of bacon, so there's not a lot, but what you do get is yummy. I ordered the French toast soldiers and it was also delicious, but only came with about 6 French toast "sticks" so I wasn't really full by the end of my meal. My friends all were happy with the flavors of their meals too, but the portions were consistently on the lighter side.

Non descript little spot with an awesome bar/cocktail experience and great clean food. Atmosphere is “busy” with a friendly vibe. Sunday burger rocks! You will not be disappointed

Four of us met here for brunch on a Saturday. Three out of four started with a Morning Glory, a tequila/coffee mix and one had the Pimm's Cup. The drinks were excellent and led to a second round. For starters, we had the Warm Deviled Egg and French Toast Soldiers. The eggs were special, almost world class. The French toast was, well, as expected. Three ordered the open faced Reuben, which included loads of fine meet and a sunny-side up egg. As rich as it looked, everyone finished the whole thing. I ordered the smoked cod and shrimp benedict. The eggs were perfectly poached and seafood and sauce were excellent. We all enjoyed our main course. We finished with excellent espressos.

5 of us were visiting San Francisco. So many restaurants to choose - so where do we go. TripAdvisor gave us too many options - so a young friend recommended Marlowes as being a good example of an American new style food place. We walked a long way to get there - and then we had to wait for about 30 minutes for a table. This place was jumping - young, old, kids, grandparents, - food moving is all directions - high low, infront of my nose, over my head - great atmosphere. And the food matched the buzz. Warm shrimp roll - was a little flavourless - great bun, shrimps so-so; crispy chicken sandwich was terrific with crisp bacon and a great aioli; Devilled egg sandwich with medium spiced jalapenos; and the Marlowe Burger was very satisfying. Some baked cheesy cauliflour and brown butter brussel sprouts and a bowl of chips made for a very satisfying lunch. Well worth the visit, the walk and being amidst the great buzz.

Really nice restaurant with a good atmosphere and a very nice staff. The food was excellent. 100/100

I came here with my team for a team lunch. Typical SF style with a little hipster and clean, neat yet not too fancy. The food was delicious, service was quick and the staff was very caring. Their burgers are killers! Definitely recommended. Do make a reservation. One minor things, tables and chairs are pretty tight and hard to get in. Make sure you state that you want open seats.

This is a fun restaurant with consistently good food. It is also good for take out which I have done a couple of times. My only complaint is that the menu is very small.

Marlowe is a restaurant with a cozy glamorous vibe. We went in for dinner, the place was full but you don’t feel overcrowded. The service was also prompt for a full house. I starts my drink with Breakfast old fashioned, of course it’s a spirit forward choice but it was done just right. A nice touch to the classic. Then later we went for a bottle of red which is priced very reasonably. For food I had the Marlowe burger and brown butter Brussels sprouts for sides. The burger is excellent, the fries was also very nice with it. My friend ordered a steak which received very good comments as well. Overall great place, great food, friendly services.

Great service and nice atmosphere. Food was good, great flavor combinations and presentation. Only downside was that when my husband asked for something spicy like a raw pepper they had none.

We were told to come here for the burger but if you skip that part on the menu then you're not missing out. We ordered: brussel sprout chips, deviled eggs, pork chops, and of course the genius burger. We left loving everything we ordered except the burger. I mean it's good but not a reason to come here. The ambience is romantic and perfect fit dates and couples but it gets crowded so you do have to talk a bit loud. All in all I would recommend coming here if you have friends in town or need a go to date spot. But it's not local and you won't need missing much in terms of burgers.

A good neighborhood type place for a drink and dinner. The corn chowder and steak tartar were both very good. We had good, attentive service too.

While visiting family in San Francisco, they took us to Marlowe, their favorite restaurant in town, and I can totally see why! Very simple and unassuming in its decor, all the attention is put on the quality of the food and taste of the dishes. We ate family-style, ordering a plethora of plates from the Bites and Starters menu, sharing in the joy of every new bite. Favorites including the creamy polenta(layered with mushrooms and arugula and tangy salsa verde), fresh oysters on the half shell(great with the mignonette though at their best with just a squeeze of lemon), and the roasted bone marrow(which tasted of pure deliciousness). As a chef, I appreciated that every crostini was sliced, seasoned and toasted to accompany each individual dish, which shows an incredible attention to detail. The low spot of the meal was the smoked baked cauliflower, though tasty, was too simple and uneventful in its execution compared to every other dish. We chose drinks from the cocktail menu to accompany the meal. The prices, though a little steep, were reflected in the quality of ingredients and size of the portions. Most are based on bitter ingredients, which was less of a draw for someone who likes sweeter drinks, like myself, but certainly not a negative in any book, just a personal preference. Glasses of tap water were kept topped up throughout the night, another great attention to detail. All service was done with a smile and a laugh, suggestions were made freely, and our night was made more delightful because of it. We felt very comfortable at Marlowe's - so much so that we closed the place! Suffice it to say that, if I were living in San Francisco, it would quickly become MY favorite restaurant, too.

We went for Brunch and the restaurant was full. Very hot inside wince the temperature in San Francisco was 103 Saturday. The restaurant is nice but no air conditioning, so it made hard to enjoy the food.

Hadn’t been in awhile because we are in the East Bay but my wife and I ate lunch here on short notice And both food and service were excellent. I had the burger which was just great. Also very happy to hear that Steve Dustin is back As executive chef. I know his reputation and quality Of his work and look forward to a return trip soon Thank you!

The staff is not friendly. The service is hurried and inattentive. The atmosphere is a little grim with a buffalo head on the wall. The noise level is quite high. The food is good. The deviled eggs are a killer and the pork shank with potato hash, slow cooked collard greens, poached egg & jalapeno jus was awesome, but is not on the menu any longer.

I went to Marlowe for its high profile burger which did not disappoint. The secret to the Marlowe burger is 20% ground lamb plus a secret horseradish sauce. It comes with shredded lettuce ,cheddar cheese and bacon -absolutely delicious.Have the Brussels sprout chips to start, select a couple of glasses from an extensive wine list and finish with coffee and their peanut butter bites served in a jar. Great atmosphere and staff.

This is a great venue with a bistro atmosphere. The menu is limited but great. We had a large assortment of appetizers and some great cocktails and wines. The service was excellent. The entrees were very good but we could have made a meal on apps only and almost did. It is loud. The food tab was small compared to our cocktail/wine tab.

Lovely space, although crammed in tight. They have a nice section in the back with an awning. We ordered several appetizers. The fava bean hummus was great, although the "chips" that came with it was a little oily and salty. Brussels sprout chips are also good, but a little challenging to eat as true chips because they broke up into so many small pieces. I had the broccoli soup and the octopus salad. The salad did not disappoint and was a great blend of flavors. The soup was bland and very oily. I couldn't find salt anywhere and couldn't finish it. I had the creme brulee for dessert and the cookies that went with it were also a little bland. My friends had the polenta. One person ate the entire thing, and the other couldn't finish because it was too rich for them. Service was meh. She was busy socializing and we had to wave to her multiple times to get what we needed.

At first the menu looked limited to me, but it turned out our group of five absolutely enjoyed everything we ordered, which included : oysters and steak tartare appetizer, sole, burger and pork chop entrees, cauliflower (very cheesy) and brussel sprouts sides, and gingerbread cake for dessert. Also beer and cocktails, and espresso/cappuccino with dessert. The sides and dessert were big enough portions to share. I especially recommend that cake which was delicious! The atmosphere is bright and cheerful - mainly white/gray tile and stone with big windows (it's on a corner). Our waitstaff was very competent and the pacing was good. We were placed on one end of a long communal table- with no one right next to us it felt private but something that might not suit everyone. All told it was $400 so not cheap, as others have observed. But excellent so I would go back!

Crowded, loud and happening. Nice staff. Nevertheless, the burger was cold. Second try had the wrong doneness. Same thing happened a year ago. Buzz alone isn’t enough.

We were waiting at the door when Marlow opened at 11:00am. While we didn't have a reservation, they very kindly said they'd fit us in if we could be sure to finish by 12:30. The place is very minimalist--bright, and they've made excellent, and comfortable use of a small space to be able to accommodate a lot of people. Our waiter came right away and took our orders. I had a delicious Pimm's Cup cocktail. We started with the Brussels Sprout Chips---nice and crispy, easy to share. Two of us had the Marlow Burger--the horseradish aioli was a perfect touch, and the third had the Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich--again, the aioli, this time Caesar, was delicious, and accompanied by tasty herbed french fries. The two burgers had salad instead, which was lovely and fresh, but a touch on the salty side.

Marlowe's food and staff easily justify the prices of any meal. Came as a party of 7 and quickly found a group of workers catering to us. Our server was very knowledgeable and made suggestions when asked. The menu is small but the options are intriguing. The Brussel sprout chips were delectable and my poulet vert (chicken) was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Other meals included a massive pork chop dinner, the Marlowe burger (which is apparently their signature dish), and scallops. Everything looked delectable and the staff was 5 stars.

Two words: Bone marrow. It's worth the wait or sitting at one of those ridiculous high tables or one of those communal tables that force you to be friendly, even if you're on a date. Brussels sprouts chips are a non-healthy alt because they have more oil on them than the Exxon Valzdez spill. Pork chop was not dry, as many of them can be. It's the other white meat that's not chicken, thank goodness. The sole was good, but not as good as my chop. Have also had a burger and fries here, which are top notch. Have the duck liver on toast....good going.

A friend took me here for lunch - apparently you need to make reservations a few days in advance to get a seat. Having been there, I can see why. It's a small restaurant, and you'd never think of going there based on the outside. It turns out to be a great place for lunch. We had our reservations for around 11:30. It was still uncrowded, and we were greeted by cheerful staff who were anxious to seat us. Once seated, we were greeted by another cheerful server - and she turned out to be an awesome server throughout our meal. She was attentive, prompt and yes, cheerful. We started with a dozen raw oysters - the seasoning that came with it was refreshing, and the hot sauce gave it an addicting kick. We also had the baked oysters, which I didn't care for but my friend liked, and the burrata which was fantastic. We moved onto our lunch item - I had the burger, which was very tasty, and he had the chicken sandwich which I saw was pretty popular there. For myself, I can say that it was among the better burgers I've had, and the chicken sandwich was apparently outstanding. We finished with a couple of green teas (sencha), carrot cake and cookies. All were very good. This is not a cheap place to eat, but a treat for the occasional business lunch or lunch among friends.

We had 8:00 reservations on a Wednesday night. Marlowe was very busy and VERY loud. Tables are extremely close together. Very cute place and the hostess and waiter were both very friendly and helpful. The spiced jumbo gulf shrimp appetizer was just amazing! We also enjoyed the crepe appetizer and the burger. The panna cotta was ok, but the chocolate cream "pie" ( really more like mousse- no crust) was delicious. A little pricey for the portions, but It was a fun meal and we would definitely go back!

Consistently good food- have tried many different dishes and is always good. The brussels sprouts is a favorite- this is the only place I eat brussels sprouts. Always high energy, if a bit noisy. But, always always a great bet

Food was fantastic, had the burger and it was cooked perfectly. What was so nice was I had flown in to visit my best friend and meet her new baby who is now nine months and we didn't have reservations but we had a baby. The staff accomadated us with a smile and the bartender was fantastic as well. Loved it!

I have walked past this place many times on the way to Oracle Park for a Giants game. It was always very crowded so I made a reservation before a Friday night game. Restaurant is about 4 blocks from stadium and there are several $20-$25 parking lots nearby. They serve great burgers with fries plus a good selection of other entrees and appetizers. I tried the pork chop which was very good. Probably about 8oz. and came attached to 2 rib bones, glazed with a tangy sweet sauce. Was served on a bed of sauteed veggies that included corn, fava beans, peppers and more. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Seems like it would also be good for post game cocktails or dessert.

The Marlowe is a casual restaurant with serious food and wine. Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The hamburgers are excellent. Enjoyed our meal there very much.

It is close to the office so we go a lot the burgers are extremely good, brussel sprout chips, the chicken dish is also tasty, always look at the specials too tend to lean towards those. can get crowded and loud during lunch. If you get a salad leave room for dessert they are tasty as well and many can be shared.

We had dinner reservations for 5:30, got there early. Husband got deviled egg appetizer. Staff was very attentive even though we couldn't order dinner until 5:30. I order DiStefan Burrata, just sounded interesting. Husband ordered Grilled pork chop. both were good. Restaurant was fairly noisy. Some other diners had unbrellas, coats and bags stored by cashier, no room at tables, fairly cozy place but nice. menu changes from time to time. If was different from our last visit some months ago.

I carefully chose this place based on reviews and pics of the cute decor and fit it into our plans. Tragically we were not hungry when we arrived but that was not going to stop us. We just didn't order as much as usual. It's always so nice to be greeted happily upon arrival and that was the case here. We were glad to see that they had brunch items on the menu into the well afternoon but we had already decided on the burger. I read that it was a contender for best burger in the city. LOVED it even though I could only finish half. I like a good manageable burger that I don't have to break my jaw wide open to eat. I could not stop eating the delicious fries which I dipped into the horseradish aioli. Heaven! I wanted to order the doughnuts SO BAD but just couldn't do it. Maybe next time. If I lived in the city I would be here all the time. Would definitely recommend. Go!

Looking for a nice table for brunch not far from Chase Center, we stopped at this address. Brunch card was not offered on Thursday, too bad. However, we were able to eat simple but good food in a rather pleasant setting without superfluous. Welcomed and served by a smiling and attentive staff.

Marlowe is located on Brannan Street where there’s a lot of foot traffic because of the businesses nearby. Had dinner there on a Thursday and the place was getting packed at around 6. Anyway, we ordered the baked oysters, octopus and squid salad and the Alaskan salmon . All three dishes were really good.

We don't know if it's the best, it is definitively worth a bite. Cooked to perfection, very tasty meat. Just go for it.

What a joy to find this elegant little bistro right near the train station: a total delight. Cocktails are great--and try the steak tartare!

Been here for lunch several times, and the food is always tasty, service is always good (from the host to the waitstaff), and the decor is cool and hip without being too much. Faves: the brussels sprout chips and the fried okra are awesome! Always a great choice in SoMa!

Had lunch with a friend that started off well. Service was excellent and attentive. But as the lunch crowd rolled in, we had to yell to be fully heard or just nod like we thought we heard. Other diners were having the same problem with their yelling lending to the cacophony. We both ordered the crispy chicken sandwich which ended up tasting like fish, probably from the oil it was cooked in. That made the lunch far less appetizing. For the price paid, some sound control features added to the small room would be welcome as well as fresh oil in the kitchen. Not worth any special trip given hard access with huge street repairs. I’d pass until they get their act together.

Our daughter wanted us to enjoy our visit so she took us to 3 of her favorite restaurants in the Bay area. Marlowe was her choice for Sunday brunch. It was great. Every item was well made, tasty, and beautifully presented. We shared the doughnuts and deviled eggs and each had an entree then 2 desserts. I was totally blown away.

Lovely place, cosy Tasty foods specially the burger Nice drinks Very nice ambiance A place to enjoy and yo have great food

Service is always spot on here, fast, friendly, professional. The food is creative and just the right portions for a business lunch. Marlowe is a favorite I return to whenever possible

My internet search for a good restaurant near a BART station in San Francisco turned up Marlowe as the number 1 recommendation. So my wife, two friends and I had dinner here last night. First of all, it is a bit of a stretch to say that Marlowe is near a BART station (0.9 miles to the Powell St. stop). Second of all the food is OK but nothing special. The little gem salad my wife and friend ordered was overdressed and both left half of it on the plate. The highly recommended burger was just OK and not worth $18. Service was fine, but the place is extremely noisy and it was hard to have a conversation even over a small table for four. We will not be going back.

Slightly pretentious and overpriced. The atmosphere and the restaurant is small which gives it a nice feel but considering we booked our table weeks in advance, it took 25 minutes to be seated (Whilst walkins seem to be placed). The food was nice, but was more presentation than flavour. The quality didn't justify the price. Try Delfina or Foreign Cinema instead. Middle of nowhere as well but suppose this is trendy.

Great spot! We arrived after flying in on a Sunday morning and even though it was a very busy brunch spot, upon hearing we had just flown in, the hostess found a spot for our fam(& even tolerated a tired child/mom meltdown at the end of our meal). Craft cocktails were so amazing and the brunch menu was fun. We had everything from french toast soldiers and homemade donut holes to fried chicken sandwich and seafood crepes. All items were delicious and nicely presented. Great find (make reservations for brunch)!

Highly recommended, a bit crowded but thats a good thing ;) It was my first time here and I will come back if in SF. Staff and food were outstanding and the cocktails are delicious.

The food was exceptional at this spot, we heard that this was the best burger in SF and was great. Great place to go if you are heading to a ball game or a lunch in the city.

Blown away. Seriously blown away. Pistachios- amazing Shrimp with boozy sauce - OMFG! Burata- only dish to get. Damn Cauliflower- solid w/ cheese Small, fun, great bartenders. #Winner Mic drop

Loved the Sunday brunch, with excellent food, great cocktails, and friendly staff. We had to wait about a half hour after our scheduled reservation, but we quickly forgot about that frustration as we dug into the food and drinks. Would definitely return.

The noise level at this restaurant was deafening. My wife and I went to meet my two brothers and their wives for a last get together dinner before we move to Mexico. It was so loud, however, that we could not converse without yelling at each other. I developed a serious headache within the first 20 minutes. The hamburger I ordered was at best average. I would have preferred an in-and-out burger, which costs about a third of Marlow's and tastes more than three times better.

The decor and friendly ambiance has the farm-to-table, airy, sophisticated farm house feel that I associate with nearby wine country. The food was delicious and has enough variety that you can feel comfortable stopping by for a quick happy hour on your way home from work, or turn into a fancy anniversary dinner. I ordered bites and starters and they were all delicious! We ate brussel sprout chips, crab/ shrimp crepes, buratta, and a warm devil egg. All of the food was light, delicate, and delicious! The brussel sprout chips were my favorite - lemony, sea salt perfection! For dessert we had a coffee-ice cream dessert on a bed of meringue. What a treat! My fiancee had the famous Marlowe burger and fries which were both cooked to perfection.
Incredibly good food and service . WOW
You wouldn;t just 'walk past' this place, but it it totally worth going to. make sure you make a booking- we were there on a monday night and it was totally full. No wonder though, the food was amazing. Its good modern fusion food, using local produce where possible, great portions, and the service is impeccable. Would certainly go again!
