Very good experience!

By divaheart06 |

This was my first visit to a Moroccan restaurant, and I must say I picked the right place. The food was delectable. The service was impeccable, and I truly enjoyed the belly dancer when she came by. All in all, this was a great first time experience. I would definitely go back again.

Fabulous Find

By MCA1123 |

I am an avid food enthusiast, hoping to eventually acquire my own establishment. I love to research hidden "gems" and even sometimes "hole in the wall" type of establishments that have the potential to blow your mind unexpectedly. After coming across this place online by doing a little research (because I had never experienced the city of Philadelphia), I had only three days, and did not want to stick to the typical tourist hype. I knew after confirming the validity of the environment and expectations at Marrakesh that this would be either amazing or terrible. It was a phenomenal experience! Not only are the servers/staff friendly and accommodating, they are authentic. That being said, the only poor reviews I have seen are by a) people who know nothing about Moroccan culture, cuisine or etiquette b) know nothing about the internet, or else they would have looked something unfamiliar up, or c) know nothing at all. A little bit of research would quickly clarify any concerns that may arise. I located a menu, and read several reviews (not just on TripAdvisor) and everything I found online was exactly the same in the experience. If you are going to blindly walk into something you are ignorant of, you have no grounds to criticize. If you think a 5-7 course meal for $25 per person is expensive, you are likely used to the McDonald's dollar menu and these fine people who have been in business for 35+ years without your nonsense probably do not want to meet you now. Also, dessert (baklava) and mint tea (also, obviously water) come as part of the meal, so whoever said they do not come with drinks is either blind or left too soon. They wash your hands for you with rosewater, I am unaware of many other places that provide such an elegant service. SO, that being said, if you are a little nervous, 1-ensure a reservation 2-bring cash/visit the ATM across the street 3-expect to eat with your hands 4-Google the menu and research the dishes that will be served if you are scared/wary, or have any allergies/dietary restrictions 5-be prepared the leave full! 6-You will likely have to knock on the door, and it is in an ally. The belly dancer was not as impressive THAT ONE NIGHT we went, but from the pictures and reviews, it seemed like it was just a bad night. The place seems to fill up on weekends, so make sure you are a little early and have a reservation. There were families, couples, children in attendance. You sit in a little room with couches and a table to eat on with your guests. You will be in close quarters with other guests, but you are not expected to converse, and you are very unlikely to be bothered. I am also going to point out that I may be a little biased because our server was tall and handsome. Very tall and very handsome. He looked like a capable lover, but I have a boyfriend so I will stop there. Seriously, though, the staff are incredibly accommodating if you think about the ignorant white people with annoying questions and requests that they must put up with on a regular basis. Food was to die for: a flat bread, possibly unleavened, is given to you (as much or as little as you want, and they present you with about 100 to choose from), first appetizer dish was vegetarian and amazing, an entire chicken was presented at one point (so very moist, falls off the bone), lamb was presented, also so incredibly tender and falling off the bone, an egg pastry and a couple of other things. They have wine and liquor, as well as beer (but we like wine and liquor). For four 5-7 course meals (I cannot remember how many courses exactly), 2 carafes of wine and 4/5 scotches was $180.00. Beat that anywhere else, I double-dog-dare you. Do not miss this place if you are in the area.

Great find - great atmosphere

By dewitteseep |

Anonymous door in the street, you have to ring the door bell! But....what an atmospheric revelation! The waiter immediately told us what we were going to eat (everyone has variations on the set meal), lots of courses, you wash youŕ hands and eat with your fingers (they do provide forks if you wish). It's a BYO but oddly also has it's own drinks menu. Great evening.

Fun Experience, "Decent" Food

By Steve S |

Recently dined at Marrakesh. It's located right off South Street in a small alley; very unassuming. Once inside, you noticed how eclectically decorated the restaurant is. They offer a 7 course meal that is certainly filling. Some dishes were much better than others but overall, I felt that the food was average. Towards the end of our evening, a belly dancer came by our table and performed a quick routine; definitely wasn't expecting that. Overall, this place is excellent but unfortunately I wasn't particularly fond of the food. Could just be my preferences but I found it a bit bland.

A unique experience and jolly good food

By Alex B |

From the off Marrakesh is a different style of dining experience - you have to knock to be let in, and are then seated at low tables served by couches. The menu is decided upon by the hosts, with choices largely extending to the spicing of the various delicious meats. This might not count for so much, but the food is so good and varied that losing choice is in fact quite a good thing. Certainly I would never have chosen chicken and egg in filo pastry with icing sugar, but I am very glad that it was offered. Go in prepared for something a bit different, but this is most highly recommended.

Excellent food, great service and beautiful ambience

By Aruna Pulipaka |

My husband and I went for any early dinner at Marrakesh yesterday. This was our first time trying food there and the food certainly surpassed our expectations. We normally have high expectations of taste, preparation and the quality of the ingredients used. We went in for their 7 course dinner where each delicious course was served very cordially in a beautiful dining room decorated with Moroccan textiles, cushions and more. We liked each and every course, but would highlight buttery lemon chicken in hot sauce (they have mild one too), yummy khus-Khus with raisins, carrots and potatoes, B'astella (layered chicken pie with nuts, eggs and powedered sugar flaky top). They were also accomodating in the sense that since I do not eat any red meat, they gave me a mild tasting lentil mix which was very satisfying as well. Overall, we enjoyed our meal, our time there and their attentive hospitality. Only one thing I would hope is in future, they serve fresh and warm pita instead of somewhat cold and hard pita.

Wonderful experience

By Samar Hb |

We went there for the first time yesterday and boy! It was amazing! It's a bid change from the usual restaurant. First the door is closed, you have to knock on the door and the waiter comes and opens the door for you and greet you. Then you will be sited in a Moroccan style dinning area. I don't want to say too much you have live it. It's a wonderful place The dinner is 3 salads all excellent. Than Bastila which is salty topped with sugar ( different taste ) didn't realy like it, but its ok. Then comes the chicken OMG amazing. Then the meat we decided to mix so we had grilled kabab it was good and the lamp with honey !!!!! The lamp was good it was melting in my mouth. After that comes the couscous if you still have room for it, if you don't you've to make some, it's really good. Finally the desert: fruits ( apples, grape, strawberries, banana and oranges), green tea and baklava. It's little bit expensive (63$ for 2 adults ) but really worth the money. We took the kids with us but haven't been charged for them. Next time I ll find a babysitter to enjoy every minute of the lovely atmosphere Definitively recommend it

Brings me back to Marrakesh...

By GiuliaFarr |

WOW---talk about an experience! My husband and I both enjoyed the decor and the amazing multiple-course meal. It's definitely a good value for the amount of food that is served. AND wow---that eggplant! However, don't forget to bring cash since they do not take cards. I had to walk to an ATM during the meal.

An authentic Moroccan experience

By dreamgenie |

We've been to Morocco, and the food here is probably better than meals we had in Marrakesh (and Fes and Casablanca). Marrakesh is a favorite place to take friends and family from out of town--it's a crowd-pleaser every time. The decor is dark, with Moroccan lamps hanging from the ceilings and low tapestry-draped seating around brass tabletops. For $35 each (cash only) including tax and tip (this includes $3/person BYOB charge), you get a very good 7-course meal, starting with a delicious eggplant, cucumber, and carrot starter, phyllo dough pie with egg and chicken dusted with confectioner's sugar, roasted chicken (we ordered it spicy and it was delicious, falling off the bone), either beef kebabs or lamb with honey and almonds (you can request half and half), couscous with vegetables, a big fruit bowl (which we're always too full to eat), and baklava with mint tea. You start by washing your hands with rose water that's poured from a kettle--this is because you'll be eating with your hands (with the help of some pita bread). For the price and amount of food, it's a bargain. Marrakesh has been open for over 30 years--as you leave you'll see a wall of photos of celebrities who have visited, including Mick Jagger, Cher, and Raquel Welsh back in their heyday. It's nice to know it's survived all these years--a testament to the great ambiance, food, and value you'll enjoy here.

Ambiance, food & service. Simply great

By jeston53 |

Not much to add to all the stellar reviews. Unique experience from the start knocking on the Moroccan door to get in. Seating is tight, low pillow couches but the whole decor brings you to a different world. Make sure you bring some hand sanitizer as everything you eat with your hands. All 7 courses were good, I recommend spicy chicken. The sweat tea at the end was awesome. Service was good, but not the most engaging. It is cash only. We did get the house wine which was ok, but bring your own if you want something really good. I will come back for sure. I went with 3 people. This seems like a great place for a big group. Food is plenty. Huge thank you to Sam the hostess. I lost my car key the night I was there. We went out after dinner, thought maybe it was Marrakesh so I called but they had already closed the restaurant. Sam picked up the phone which was forwarded to his cell. He felt bad and even though it was 12 am and he was at home 20 min away he came back just to open up the restaurant so I could check. Unfortunately it was not there. The next day he called me to check in and see if I found it. That was awesome, thank you Sam. We will be back many times.

You would go back to it

Very very very nice place to eat They have dancers It was awesome experience

Gone way downhill: A disappointing experience

By Mark F |

Firstly, GlobalMom's review below (from Nov. 2023) is spot-on. I lived in Philadelphia in the mid-1990s and went to Marrakesh several times back then. It was an almost otherwordly experience. Luxuriant, immersive, and decadent. The atmosphere was magical, as if one were transported to a Middle Eastern home. In fact, that's how the experience was framed back then. A diner knocked on the locked door and was invited into the restaurant by a man wearing traditional Moroccan garb who seated us on low divans. He squatted next us (so that his head was level with ours) and explained that we would be treated as guests in a private home. In our recent experience, the person wore a Polo shirt uniform, sat us down, and spoke from a standing position, removing all the charm of our earlier experiences. We keenly felt our role as paying customers, not invited guests. Although we were still given large towels for our laps and our hands were washed, we were given small styrofoam plates and plastic forks. Um...what? We asked that the plates be removed so that we could eat with our hands, but they were not. Gone was the thick, satisfying bread, replaced with thin pita wedges which provided an entirely unsatisfying gustatory experience. The food was still good, though not quite as good as it used to be. The flavors were lacking, particularly the honey and spice that pervaded the food in the past. The second course came WAY TOO FAST, before we were even half-finished with the first salad course. We requested the lamb for the meat course, but they FORGOT TO BRING IT and we had to remind them about it. The mint tea--which used to be poured cinematically from a height by a waiter standing near the table with his arm raised above his head--was simply brought to the table already poured into glasses. Four pieces of baklava were served on a single small styrofoam dish, not given to individual diners nor served on a beautiful ceramic plate as it used to be. To top it off, when I tried to pay the bill (more than $200) using a credit card, I was told that their machine was not working and they would only accept cash. Are you kidding me?!?!? Why would you not say that WHEN WE WALKED IN? Maybe I'm unusual, but I don't generally walk around Philly with $250 in cash. Now, one of our party had to leave the restaurant and walk across the street to an ATM to withdraw the necessary cash. The food was still good, and the belly dancer was a fun part of the experience, but the whole thing felt too transactional and unsatisfying, as if the owner were trying to cut corners wherever possible. I will NOT be going back until I see the reviews reflect a return to the traditional approach that made this restaurant a unique and luxurious experience.

Wonderful!

By tmchm |

My family and I celebrated my husband's 40th birthday here. We had a blast! Great service, beautiful ambiance and decor, and the food was great. A few people were not too keen on some on the dishes, but the atmosphere and overall experience more than made up for it. The belly dancer was wonderful! Keep in mind that while they do have a bar list, it's also byob and cash only. Highly recommend for a special event.

Authentic Moroccan cuisine experience!

By don l |

Tucked on a little side street off of historic South Street, Marrakesh serves truly authentic Moroccan meals in a setting reminiscent of dining in Morocco!

Amazing!

By RJ |

This restaurant is AMAZING! You start off by washing you hands in the rose water and the you're given towels that will be used as napkins. The first appetizer is a mix of a cucumber salad with tomatoes, pureed eggplants, carrots. The eggplant is EVERYTHING! The second course included almonds and since I'm allergic to nuts, the waiter brought a smaller version of the meal without the almonds. There's a live belly dancer who is very interactive! This is a BYOB spot but definitely worth the experience and price (per person average is about $25)

Great food, great atmosphere, attentive staff!

The whole house is a restaurant, small rooms, nice atmosphere, you eat with your fingers, the food is delicious, friendly & attentive service, excellent wine, price affordable. A great place to celebrate, a great place to enjoy a authentic Moroccan diner.

The place reflect the Moroccan ambience very truthfully. The 7 course meal is never endingly delicous, one after another. I live in NY and go to Philly just to dine here. That should speak for itself.

Birthday dinner

By applesymphony |

My girlfriend took me here for my birthday dinner and I am so glad she chose this place. It was an unique experience altogether. The food is amazing, it is BYOB which is a plus. They have a very limited drink selection, so, if you enjoy your wine with dinner, bring your own. This dinner was 7 courses including dessert and mint tea as the grand finale and every single course was exquisite. I particularly enjoyed the eggplant, the lamb and the couscous. They also offer vegetarian options if you prefer. This restaurant is CASH ONLY so keep that in mind. I absolutely recommend it.

Have not stopped raving about this place ...2 months later, and going again this weekend!

By diddla |

I used trip advisor to find this place in the first place, we wanted some kind of Mediterranean food and when I came across the good reviews for this place we decided to try it out. I LOVED it from the moment I saw the kitchen staff sitting on crates in an empty alley smoking and talking... turned the corner to an equally desolate street, where only the awning and Marrakesh lettering lit against the wall give away the existence of anything commercial in this part of town. We had to knock on the solid wooden door and when it was opened the man in full length Moroccan garb asked if we had reservations (HINT:MAKE reservations!) He managed to squeeze us into the "communal" dining room on the first floor, and I'm pretty sure it was the only two open seat cushions in the place. I was even more thrilled with the place once we sat down - after traveling extensively in India and Southeast Asia it's almost painful to come to a cheesy "Americanized" Indian or Thai restaurant, after having seen "the real thing". This place looked just like someone had made their home over into a restaurant, everything is a little worn and hodge-podge but still really nice, it just makes it look more authentic. You don't feel like they went and got the couches from the ethnic design line at bed bath and beyond.... :) tapestries, and glittering colored glass lanterns just like they sell in the street markets in Cairo, Arabic and Hindi music playing in the background, and on the first floor where we were dining, everyone is more or less seated together with other groups so you can mingle and have a real "family" style meal and meet new people. Fantastic! Upstairs, you can make reservations for private tables too. The service was slow, but in a good way - you NEED a lot of time to eat that much food! There is not a menu, only a choice of drinks, then they found out we were vegetarian, and adjusted our meal to suit. Once seated, you are brought a hand wash bowl, and a drink menu, and soon after that, the first 3 salads of an amazing 7 course meal are brought to your table. I absolutely loved every thing, there was one dish that wasn't my favorite personally, but by that time I was so full I couldn't have eaten it if I loved it. We ended up requesting smaller portions for our second to last course, so we would not waste the food, and had our dessert packed to go! They sent us home with a grocery bag full of fruits (for two people!) and two portions of the BEST baklava I've ever tasted. Oh yeah, did I mention they have belly dancers too... :) I was surprised when the bill came, but still felt I was getting an excellent value for the price. It's a fixed price of $25 per person, tax, and drinks will be added to that. I'm a budget diner, but that won't stop me from going here again next time I'm in Philly, it was absolutely the highlight of my 3 days there - Planning to make reservations for this Sunday night!

Belly dancing and great food

By karenelainesoulangel |

Came here for dinner on my birthday a while back🎂, the staff was very attentive and accommodating to vegetarians. The decor music and food makes you feel as if you're in Morrocco. I had a great time especially when the belly dancer 💃 came out, I joined in. I highly recommend this place

Everything was poor from the food to the service, such a shame....

By MTH97123 |

We were greeted exceptionally well. That is the extent of the best part. Going forward in was a downhill spiral. We were a large party and were seated at a fine table. However, the waiter failed to provide us the wine/drink menu. After asking a few times he did provide it. I was irate at the fact the party next to us brought in their own wine and beer. Nowhere on the menu or web site does it state BYOB. The site only has “fully stacked bar” I would have liked to bring my own wine. The food at best was ok, nothing to scream about and say WOW. The first course consisting of salad was very tasty. The second course, the B’stella was ok, I have had better and found this one to be rather a disappointment. We opted for the mild dish of chicken with the lemon and olive. This had absolutely NO flavor. I did not taste the lemon nor the olives. It may have very well been a roasted chicken bought from a local store and was topped with lemon slices to make it look Moroccan. Then the waiter laid in front of us a dish of lamb and we informed him that we are expecting the beef kabobs as well since we wanted half and half. The waiter picked up the tray of food and stated “oh maybe this is for the other table next to you and brought it down”. Isn’t there a law about once the dish/plate/food is served you cannot reserve it? The beef kabobs were as tough as nails simply over cooked, dry and flavorless. I do not care for Lamb so I cannot say anything about the lamb dish. A basket of fruit for dessert? Really? Who provides a plate of fruit? Cut the fruit, have fruit salad but not a plate of fruit. Then the tea was served it comes already in a glass. The tea was very light in color which I already know is the Moroccan way but it had very little mint flavor. Here I am going to say they probably used mint flavored tea bags. I am used to the show of tea serving, when the tea is poured in and out of the pot at a high angle several times to infuse the mint and the steep the tea more. The baklava was acceptable. This place was a huge disappointment. Lacking in flavor, service and cohesion. Oh by the it is CASH ONLY!!!! Bottom line, if you like Moroccan food, do not eat here, rather look up a recipe and make it yourself.

Totally fun, but not as...

By Shabnam S |

Totally fun, but not as swanky as the back room in D.C. -- there is no belly dancer.

Unique dining experience

By Thomas M |

Very atmospheric as you sit around a round table on cushions surrounded by tapestries and curtains, eating without utensils. A cultural experience. Very good service. Reasonable prices for fixed multi-course menu. Very good food just short of outstanding (chicken was very fresh). BYOB keeps price down.

Great Traditional Moroccan Meal

By Claudia E |

Hubby and I had a great, traditional 7 course Moroccan feast for only $25.00 pp. Very atmospheric, great service. We couldn't eat everything as there was way too much for 2 people. Location was also near South St. and all of the action.

Excellent Morrocan food

By Stephanie C |

With love belly dancers this is the place to go for middle eastern food just off South street. They are great.

This wasn’t a meal, it was an experience!!

By Andy S |

Wow! What a wonderful experience Marrakesh was, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were treated fantastically, everything from the service to the food was exceptional. We have never experienced anything like this, we’d visit Philadelphia again just to visit this restaurant! Thank you.

Exotic fun.

By Petersen C |

Hard to find but worth it. First of all you have to know to get in, then it is extremely intimate and you lounge on couches to eat. It is an 8 or 9 course meal EXTREMELY reasonable and it invites you to talk to other people. A very fun experience, one I would do again when I visit Philadelphia again.

Fun, Fun, Fun!

By door60 |

This is a great place if you're celebrating an occasion with friends or you can celebrate with strangers, as your elbow to elbow with other patrons. You start your experience with the traditional hand-washing and then the food keeps on coming for 7 courses! The food was very good. The belly dancer was the icing on the cake. All for $25 !! If you have mobility issues, I suggest when you call for a reservation, you reserve a table on the first floor only. The stairwell to get to the upper levels is narrow and steep..

Food, Atmosphere, Entertainment, What More Could You Want?

By Dan A |

This elder statesman of the Philadelphia food seen earns its fame. Hidden away on an obscure side street, Marrakesh will transport you to another place and time when you pass through its thick doors. Food. You get seven courses for $25. It's a great value. There was a combination of vegetable, chicken, and lamb dishes that came out, nothing overcooked. The meat was succulent, the vegetables tasty, and the flavors fairly robust. The only quibble was with the fruit platter at the end. They were hurriedly put on a platter and the stickers were on. Considering the amount of work that goes into presenting each meal, this wasn't a big deal. Overall, good food for the price. As for the delivery, well, you're set up around a big table and you're supposed to each from the main platter with your hands. The staff, however, are quick to offer you forks if needed. Ambience - Marrakesh is dark. The windows are covered and the interior is set up to have a Moroccan decor. You recline on pillows. Before the hands on dinner, they brought out a big pot of rose scented water to rinse your hands before the meal. The music (Moroccan, presumably) is fairly loud, but we (a party of 4) had an easy time conversing amongst ourselves and even our neighbors. Towards the end of dinner, they presented their belly dancer to dance for the room. Good food and a show! The staff was very courteous and attentive, I felt very well taken care. One member of our party had to eat vegetarian and they brought out generous vegetarian portions for him with our food. Excellent service. The biggest negative is that Marrakesh has very tight hallways. Squeezing through those with busy staff catering to each room can be something of a challenge, but that is an adventure in itself. In sum, Marrakesh deserves an excellent rating. Consider it if you want to try something a little different for your dining experience.

Moroccan Treasure find on South Street

By Patheeka |

If you are done trying at the numerous Philly joints on South street, try this Moroccan food-place for a change - you would be amazed every which way. To start with ambiance, the restaurant is placed at the end of dingy alley and opens only to the ring of a doorbell, much like you were entering someone's house. Sharply contrasting with the hip crowd on the south street, the interior is pleasantly quirky, like the innards of a tent in the Mediterranean desert - Persian writings on the wall, informal sitting arrangements and the vintage-look silver trays serving as dining tables. We saw only one server (who I assume was also the owner) on the Monday night we visited. Our hands were washed in a portable sink in perfumed water and then we were offered fresh hand-towels. A 7 course meal followed after, starting within the Moroccan Zaalouk (eggplant dish). My partner was a vegetarian and so the dishes changed for her from then after. Honestly, I had my apprehensions that the grandeur would die after 2 or 3 dishes but it didn't. I was treated with Mujadara - a lentil and rice dish, Mrouzia - a lamb dish made with raisins, almond and honey (yes, I Googled them after reaching home) and another chicken and chickpea dish. Our dinner ended with a bowl of fresh fruits and a strong tea. Each dish was accompanied by naan breads. And guess what, tax and tips included $35 per head. For the food and experience, worth every penny. Strongly recommend, if you want to take a peak into another great cuisine. Do carry cash, they didn't accept cards, and it was troublesome for me to find an ATM.

Dinner and Show

By DavidLINY |

First time here. Had dinner on Saturday. A fun evening. This is worth every penny. Great food. The belly dancer added to the evening.

A great group experience

By DebraCo |

The food is very good. There's a lot of it for the money. They have a remarkably good wine list. The belly dancer is fun. The music is authentic. Just some words of advice - it's hot inside, wear a short sleeved shirt, even if it's winter. It's a tight squeeze. Leave the giant handbags at home. It's very dark. The meal takes a LONG time - so make an early reservation if you want to to go out later. And, yes, make a reservation, since there is nowhere to stand around and wait inside if you don't.

Nice experience

By Ria411 |

The experience from start to finish was stellar. We sat downstairs, where the ambience was great for a date night- there were crowds going upstairs - not sure what was going on. The food was oh so amazing - well seasoned , and I still crave the mint tea and baklava for dessert. Would defin recommend.

More Mediterranean Than Moroccan

By Kelly21830 |

When I read the reviews and walked through the "secret" door, I was expecting to be brought back to Marrakesh itself. Unfortunately, I didn't have that experience with one single dish. The food was plentiful and filling but it seems like the restaurant is geared towards unknowing tourists and not those who can actually cook Moroccan dishes. Could it be a regional thing? I was told the owners were from Casablanca (I think) and not Marrakesh, where I learned how to cook from my ex-husband's mother and Berber housekeeper? Don't expect authentic khobz because they served very thin pitas in its place. I didn't detect the silky tang of preserved lemons in the lemon chicken, nor did I detect the delicious flavor of Moroccan spices. The meal wasn't bad but it wasn't from Marrakesh.

Please go! Have a great meal.

By PearceNC |

Great food, great atmosphere, nice owner. Allow for 2 hours and bring cash, they dont take credit. We come from north carolina and visit every time. Keep an open mind and enjoy a lovely evening.

Fun different birthday outing with group of friends

By Tamra P |

Ok you don't go here because the food is 5-star, but it's not bad, and it's a fun experience, especially with a group of people. We asked for seating downstairs since my husband has back issues, but they seated us at a much too small area for the 13 of us. Up the stairs we go. Still too small of an area, we had to have 2 people on uncomfortable ottomans, but thankfully the party of 20 didn't show and we were moved to a suitable space. First course was delicious--eggplant, pickled carrots, and a cucumber tomato salad. Yummy, especially the eggplant, but I liked it all. They also bring a basket of pita around regularly. This is eat with ur hands folks. Then came a meat pie in a sweet pastry. Not my favorite and interesting to dig in with your hands to this hot food. Then came spicy chicken for one table and non spicy for the other. Loved the spicy chicken. Then lamb and beef kabobs, then a couscous dish, then fruit and baklava and some weird tea. And oh yeah the belly dancer. Recommend for something different, it's an experience. And the price was very reasonable, especially considering we could BYOB.

By Jessica S |

What an amazing place!! $35 for a 7 course meal with corkage and tip included. Can’t beat that!! BYOB. The food was fantastic! I see some said the kabobs were dry but I didn’t find that at all. It was delicious from start to finish. The atmosphere was fun and cozy. I would love to visit soon!

Great Team work and Food.

By Chandan D |

The food is fantastic. Above all the passion of the host and a great team work. This is kind of very unusual for a fine or fine/casual restaurant. I felt I am being served by more than one server. My server Chris is awesome. His suggestions (on my asking) were perfectly correct after I had those food. I was kind of surprised by the dexterity of them. They were quite fast in serving the food as well as do the cleanup. Waiting for my next trip to Epcot and Marrakesh.

Great memories, good food

Friends and I went here in a group. It was a memorable experience. The food was great the combination of spices were superb. Tea was refreshing and fruit at the end was perfect. Must be opened minded and adventurous to go. Loved it

Philadelphia - An Experience Not to Be Missed

By JoyChristena |

I traveled by Amtrak train to visit a friend who lives in Philadelphia; my stay in Philly was so fun, especially eating at the fabulous Marrakesh and enjoying their wonderful belly dancers. My friend who treated me to this delightful time in Philadelphia is also a Middle Eastern belly dancer. I highly recommend this restaurant experience. Take in Philadelphia and the marvelous sights and restaurants.

Wonderful evening, wonderful food

By mgc |

We just had the pleasure of visiting Marrakech during restaurant week. Their prix fixe menu is great. (Where can you go for countless courses for $25 a person during restaurant week?). The first course includes a yummy zucchini dish. The highlight was the Moroccan Bastille dish. So so good. It’s a traditional Moroccan dish that is so tasty. The tender lemon chicken and honey-infused lamb dishes were great. If you want a great meal and a different experience (washing your hands in rose water and ending with sweet tea), this is a nice treat. We will definitely visit again. This is a family-run restaurant that used to have a similar restaurant in DC (before being bought out to build the DC convention center.). May this family continue this place for years and decades to come!

Authentic, flavorful and great atmosphere

By rswiernik |

This place is amazing. My husband and I called last minute on Christmas Eve and they had a table for 2 open. The entrance is super low key in an alley with a bunch of old row homes and you have to knock to get in. The room is absolutely beautiful with pillows and tapestry and cloth lined walls and ceiling and colorful lamps. All of the tables are close together and everyone at a table eats off the same giant plate. The food is wonderful. Dish after dish was flavorful and simple and I had no complaints about the entire experience! This is a must go for authentic Moroccan cuisine!

Couple date

By Czar P |

Took my wife out on a date at Marakesh my gosh, it was exquisite!! The scenery is typically Moroccan heritage and romantic! O the menu is 7 courses, traditional Moroccan cousin. Their customer service is top-notch, the food is on time and keeps coming, by the way, BYOB. Our visit was climaxed with a spectacular Moroccan live dance. Highly recommend this place!!!

Must do Experience for Philly

By HoboProf |

This is easily one of our most favorite restaurants we've ever visited. My wife and I went to Morocco a few years ago and this easily the closest we've had to that experience in the US. They have authentic music playing throughout, and the decor takes you to right to Morocco. The ambience is nothing short of amazing. Fully authentic Moroccan dining with communal sofas and communal dishes. They offer a 7 course menu with binary choices of absolutely authentic Moroccan cuisine. They even have Moroccan wine as an option and we haven't been able to find that anywhere in the NYC/NJ/PA area. AND they have belly dancing! We hit it anytime we're in Philly.

Highly recommend a reservation

By watsonma |

We showed up at about 5:30pm for dinner without reservations. Initially they were going to seat us but changed his mind after we talked a little while. The complete staff was very friendly. They have you wash your hands with rose water and then serve you 7 courses. You can even bring your own bottle of wine. It is very authentic restaurant. I would highly recommend eating here

A Memorable Night Out!

By PelleasPhiladelphia |

I have been going to Marrakesh for most of my life. As a teenager it was my choice for birthdays with my family, I came to love if for romantic meals and I still now go back for my birthdays 30 years later. The prices have gone up over that time, but I still feel that the experience is well worth the price. Summary: You sit on cushions on the floor, you and your party gather around one table and are served a prixe-fixe many course meal family-style. Your hands are washed, you are given towels as napkins, you become friends with those around you. Little has changed over the years: the salads you eat with bread are one of the best courses, there's sweet rice and chicken in Phyllo, couscous and vegs, the main course whole chicken, the baklava and mint tea, etc etc. I find the food delicious, celebratory, adventurous, and fun. I've been to Morrocco and the food at Marakesh is exactly what you get in country. If you have any sense of adventure and love for food as an experience - go! You'll love it. PS. Optional BYOB - so bring it and save money

Awesome experience, great food.

By ladybug314 |

As someone who had never tried a moroccan food prior to going to Marrakesh, I was very pleasantly surprised as to how much I enjoyed going there. The whole experience of sitting on pillows, having to wash your hands with towels, not using utensils, etc was awesome. The food was really good as well. I will definitely go back!

Great return after 20 years away from Philly. I missed the experience

By ArtMacNew |

We used to frequent this place and really forgot just how great it really is. Definitely a place that should be on everyone's short list!

Great new experience .

By capnbeef41 |

Though not my first visit, I return every year on my birthday. It's a one-of- a- kind experience, perfect to share with a dozen or so friends. It's shoes -off floor pillow seating around a large rotating table. An all finger fare with your palate being constantly and happily surprised. Around eight courses, no one goes hungry. A little hard to find, ask anyone on south street , they'll point you to one of the country's best Medi- fusion spots in the country.

A Moroccan delight

By Jeffrey F |

My sister and her boyfriend recently returned from Morocco and wanted to take us to a Moroccan restaurant to keep their vacation going. My sister did all the internet work and she selected Marrakesh. It is a little tough to find - on a very small street that is only 1 or 2 blocks long. We were warmly greeted and they quickly opened up our BYOB wines (you can also buy some there). We were seated in couches surrounding a round table - a great look! There was no printed menu - just a multi-course plethora of tasty food coming our way at a fixed price of $25 a person plus 18% tip added in automatically (we gave then an added tip because of the great service and food). The first set of courses was 3 yummy 'salads' that everyone receives - eggplant, carrots and cucumber / tomato. We then selected the next 3 courses from a short list. First up was a filo crusted, lamb, nuts, powdered sugar delight. Then we tried the whole cumin chicken - pretty spicy and very tasty and tender. Then came a wonderful lamb dish, followed by a couscous entry. Finally, we had the mint tea, fruit and wondrous baklava. You do eat with your hands (except for the couscous) and are given a large towel to use as your napkin. Since we went on a Thursday, there were no belly dancers (I guess we need to go back on a Friday or Saturday!).

Very different type of dining out, FUN

By bigsky3 |

This is a resatuarnat down a dark alley just off a main street. you need to knock at the door to be let in. Very welcoming Maitre' d and staff. The food was great and the BEST chicken I have ever eaten!! Skip the wine list and go with the carafe wine--it is really quite good for $12. The menu is preset but you can choose between a few different meats. they only take cash so come prepared. This is worth a try as it is a very different dining experience and great food. they sit you down on low couches and there is a big platter type table that they present the food upon. Eat with your hands using flat bread.

Authentic Moracan Food and Fun!!!

By Mario G |

This is an absolute must go place with family and friends. The food is amazing in quality, freshness and authenticity. Be prepared to spend at least 2 1/2 hours to enjoy the full seven course meal! As an added bonus you will be able to see a live belly dancer show! Great, great value!!

Very nice

We enjoyed our family dinner in this restaurant. The preset menu was delicious and there was definitely something in it for everyone.

Delightful Evening!

By Melwood62 |

Marrakesh was on a list of restaurants I printed out when I printed my boarding passes. My husband was a little hesitant because he's not quite as adventurous as I am but agreed to go. I called and was going to make a reservation for 8:30 because I had read they only made reservations for 6:30 or 8:30. He asked what time I wanted and I told him 8 and he said that was fine. We were seated at a table in a dining room at ground level and my husband was relieved we did not have to sit on cushions. The server came and brought the basin and pitcher of water to wash our hands and towels for our laps. He explained the courses and we made our selections. Every course was delicious!! I had read the reviews so I paced myself so I could enjoy all of the courses. The baklava and hot mint tea were a perfect way to end the meal. We loved the atmosphere and the meal!! It is CASH ONLY so go prepared.

Great place all around

By Gene L |

Off the main street in the area, South street, is the hidden, knock or ring bell to enter, little jem of a restaurant. 7 wonderful courses that you eat with your hands, yes they give you water & a towel. You sit on pillows right next to that hand holding couple just inces away but they serve fast but do not ruch you. If you go once, you will be back. ps: Cash ONLY

An Unconventional, Yet Traditional Cuisine From Utopia

By dmfnswm |

I wanted a unique experience, and I definitely got a unique experience. In our eyes, we were given unconventional and unusual Moroccan food. In their eyes, they were serving us the traditional Moroccan cuisine. ------------- It all started on one normal night. We made our through downtown Philly and found Marrakesh. There were two palm trees outside, a slightly dim glow of lights, and a sturdy door. We tried opening the sturdy door. It was locked. Then we knocked and someone answered almost immediately. Not knowing what to expect, we slowly walked inside. Our eyes were plastered from the unique setting, decorations on the walls, and cozy environment; a setting that words alone cannot describe. We were seated on the most comfortable seat-rug-pillow sets and in front of a "table" made of a stationary block and a metal tray. The server explained to us the menu and the few options we could select from. A minute or so passed by. We were given a "hand-washing ritual", where blissfully warm water was poured onto our hands. We were handed "napkins", or towels, to dry our clean hands. ------------- Before coming here, I read some of the reviews for Marrakesh. Some people said that the service was slow. However, the service was everything BUT slow! It was extraordinarily fast, even though it was slightly busy! A minute after washing our hands, we were given the first course! When we finished the first course, they took the plate away and almost immediately gave us the second course, and so on and so forth. The food was delicious!!! Especially Course 2 (the phyllo dough pastry stuffed with chicken). It was a blend of sweet and savory, and we devoured the entire course within minutes. We were not given any utensils (other than for the couscous in Course 5). The bad part to this was that some of the food was extremely hot... hot enough to burn your fingers. But it was all worth it in the end! - to eat the delicious Moroccan food. The service was very friendly, and the environment was very warm and cozy. It was a little dark and hard to see the food, but our eyes adjusted to the darkness. There were no belly dancers (who, according to reviews, come on Fridays). It was hard to imagine where in that cramped room the belly dancers could possibly dance. ------------- Pros: Delicious food, A LOT of food, friendly servers, cozy seats, snug and cozy setting, unique style, the hand-washing ritual. Cons: A little expensive ($25/person + gratuity), hard to eat hot food with hands, a little small But, despite the cons, the uniqueness and deliciousness of the food scored this restaurant yet another 5-star review.

What an experience

By kathyd928 |

The cab had a hard time finding this place. Was a little spooky. The food and experience was authentic. We even had a belly dancer perform for us. There is only one food choice option. Served with no utensils. You are given a towel to wipe your hand and mouth. A unique experience.

Awesome Esperience!

By livetodine23 |

My significant other and I recently dined at Marrakesh and I must say... From the moment I made my reservation to the moment I left the restaurant we were treated with the utmost hospitality. The staff at Marrakesh truly treats you as a guest in their own Morrocan home. I was very pleased. The experience is unlike any other, take your whole family for an experience you wont soon forget!

Unique Experience

By Jo A H |

The restaurant is a bit off the beaten path and that's part of it's charm. You have to ring the doorbell for admittance and then it feels as if you've arrived at a completely different city. The atmosphere is captivating and the food is excellent! The staff were friendly and polite. Pace yourself as you are served seven courses and it is very easy to fill up on the first course. I would recommend, especially to anyone looking for something different.

Count on It!

By Sandra M |

I used to dine at Marrakesh 20 yrs ago when I lived in Philadelphia. This was my first time back since then & it was just as great as I remember! The owner is very friendly & proud of his business which he told me is in it's 35th year. I can't think of many who can say that. The restaurant is now open on 3 floors, I have only ever been on the first floor so I cannot speak to the atmosphere of the others. However, I can tell you that the downstairs dining room is a fabulous & decadent little den of colorful, exotic goodness. Bankettes upholstered in carpet and backed with silver-thread embroidered pillows are situated around small tables topped with huge polished brass platters. If you are not interested in an exotic dining experience or do not appreciate the food culture of people different than yourself, then this is not the place for you. BUT, if you are in the mood to be swept away to old Morrocco, you came to the right place. You begin your dining experience after the server has washed your hands with rose-scented warm water. You eat with your hands (ie: no utensils) by tearing-off pieces from a very thin bread & using it to scoop-up the food. The meal is brought out in a series of courses served on large plates to be shared. The meal is about 7 courses & diners choose from a few main entrees to be shared amongst their party. The first course of 3 cold vegetable "salads" got us off to a great start & was one of our favorite courses. The trio included a smokey-eggplant-tomato-olive oil compote that was the stand-out of the 3. Our other favorite was the spicy chicken. A whole chicken slow-cooked in a spicy harissa sauce that we all loved. Our other meat entree, lamb with honey & almonds, was a bit of a disappointment, but was also good. The pacing of the meal was well-done. We weren't rushed and had ample time between courses. Dinner is $25 per person with 18% gratuity automatically added to the tab. Plan for 1 1/2 -2 hrs. The restaurant is on a TINY street found off South between 4th & 5th. From South you will turn left onto Leithgow, which appears to be a walking only street as it is VERY narrow. Ring the doorbell for entry & DO make a reservation in advance.

Great food and comfortable atmosphere

By Sandra T |

We enjoyed a late lunch. It was easy to share some plates, and each was delicious. Comfortable setting, very affordable. Appreciated Vegan options.

Don't forget to knock!

By Liz K |

We visited this gem during a conference in Philadelphia, and didn't realize that you have to knock at the door to be let in for the meal! And what a meal it was. This is an intimate (read: tiny) place where you can feast to get Thanksgiving-level full. The food was beautiful and tasty, and although the music made us have to talk loudly to be heard, it was a delightful experience. I was so grateful they provided us with a towel to catch all those delights that tumbled on to my lap as I was eating with my fingers. Not for vegetarians or those who aren't comfortable with family style dining!

Delicious and fun experience

By goingtoprovo |

I've been fortunate to dine twice at Marrakesh. The setting is unique, with low sofa-type seating around low, beautiful brass round tables. It's dimly lit and romantic. The food just keeps coming- so many delicious courses (I think the first course- the salads with the to-die-for marinated eggplant is my favorite, though). The price is extremely reasonable. ($25 per person for salad, the egg/chicken pie, roasted chicken, steak or lamb, cous cous, and baklava, fruit and tea) Tip: Get the carafe of their house red for $12; it's a really nice blend at a great price if you don't feel up to getting a bottle. (though I think their bottles are all reasonable at $25)

Unique setting and service, fun evening

By Rick R |

Six of us there for dinner, small intimate setting. Door is locked and you need to knock and wait for entry. We only saw a drink menu that was limited and ran out of Moroccan beer. The food is served family style and due to the seating around a low table for your group, you dine with a towel on your lap. Yes, plates and utensils are optional and available on request, but most of the eating is done with the hands. You do get the wash of hands first, followed by the plate of 3 salads which you use your pita to retrieve. Everything was plentiful. The pastille was second course and interesting blend of phyllo, powdered sugar, egg and ?chicken filling. We chose chicken with lemon-olive sauce and spicy sauce on the side. You get 1/4 chicken per person, and it arrives as either a half or whole chicken, depending on your party size. Next course is beef or lamb--this was the only disappointment as there was plenty bone and little meat. Couscous follows--with spoons this time. A large fruit platter for dessert. And the price for the meal and drinks is quite fair. We chose the table furthest from the kitchen/bathroom area and we were able to have ongoing conversation with our friends with whom we spent 2 weeks in Morocco last year.

Delicious Moroccan Food with a Fun Atmosphere!

By LMK101 |

I've been to this restaurant twice and both times I've been pleasantly surprised! This restaurant is located on a small side street off of South Street. There is a sign that you really can't see but you know to look for a colorful door. There is no parking on the street so that is a premium in this Philadelphia neighborhood. You ring the doorbell and wait for someone to open the door to greet you. If you have to wait for seating, you wait outside on the street. One member of our party was using a cane. During our wait, the host, who answered the door, left the restaurant only to appear with a chair for my party member! It is a small restaurant with many floors, so reservations are a must! The decor is pleasing and comfortable, with banquette seating and numerous pillows, no chairs. Each area has round coffee tables where the food is served. If you want to try Moroccan food this is the place to get a great delicious sampling of vegetables, couscous, beef, lamb chicken, etc. We were served 6 courses for a flat fee of $25 per person, plus tax and gratuity. You can bring your own wine or beer with no corkage fee! The server brings large bath towels for you to place on your lap and use as napkins. Then rosewater is brought over for you to wash your hands. The courses begin with unlimited pita bread to use in place of utensils. And if that's not enough, a belly dancer comes out to show you how to belly dance! It is a fun evening for a group of friends or family.

Eh, good food, dining was awkward

By Nina P |

3 of us came in for dinner around 8:45 mid-week. The restaurant is on a side alley off of South Street and you need to ring a bell to be let in. It almost seemed liked a secret. We walked into a nicely decorated room with beautiful tapestries and wall hangings. There were only 2 other couples on the 1st floor besides us and the dining while good did seemed rushed. The server poured water over our hands which seemed like a wonderful custom but he did it so quickly it was almost awkward. The tasty salad course came out and while they gave us pita ( that had to be put on the table) the culture is to eat with your hands, we were not comfortable and had to ask for forks. They brought one small plate which 2 of us shared. The second course came out and it was a hot, round, stuffed phyllo which they expected us to break with our hands. That is too many hands on my food for me and we asked that they cut it. It took discussing between employees and owner for a few minutes but they did it for us. It was very tasty and kind of sweet, almost like something you would consider a breakfast dish. The 3rd course of chicken came out and I am SO HAPPY we still had our plastic forks. We had to ask for another dish for the third guest. Chicken was spicy, hot and savory. We ordered the lamb with honey and almonds for the 4th course and while very tasty for a 'kebab' was mostly bones and wasn't much meat. For desert we were brought mint tea (in a glass cup not a tea cup) and one piece of baklava each which seemed to have been sitting in honey. I am particular about baklava and this was just soaked. The fruit was refreshing but they bring some grapes, strawberries, whole apples and bananas. Do they really expect people to sit and eat an apple in a social setting while sipping tea? More grapes and strawberries would have been better to nibble. This was my first time eating Moroccan food and while the atmosphere was exciting and diverse, the dining was just too hands on for my liking lol I have experienced Indian, Russian and even Uzbek and found this to just be messy and kind of cheap. Oh BTW they include 18% no matter what size the party. I find this intrusive for less then average service. For $25 it was decent to experience one time but I wouldn't go back here again. Maybe for take out but even then probably not

Interesting Menu that is sure to delight!

By TRM1968 |

I took a group of teenagers here as a way to expose them to different cultures and food. This place does not disappoint. The entrance is on a side street off South Street and if you're not careful you will walk right by it. Once you go in you are treated to Moroccan décor - we were lead up a narrow staircase to a back room designed to fit our party of 16. We were seated around two small tables. The area is covered in pillows and you sit back and relax while talking and eating. The waiter comes with rose water to wash your hands and your given a small towel to lay across your lap for the remainder of the meal (you will be eating with your hands). The meal comes in several courses. The The B’stella- Layered pie with chicken, assorted nuts, almonds, eggs, parsley and onions, topped with confection sugar and traced with cinnamon was not like anything I've ever tried - messy but delicious. You're given pita bread that you can use as a plate/food...All of the three main courses were tasty. It's dark in the rooms so sometimes I was wondering what I was eating but I tried everything and none of the food disappointed me. I would say this place is a special occasion/destination meal.

A fun night with friends

By David G |

A group of friends and I decided to try something different and venture to the Marrakesh for dinner. Our party had twelve and they were able to accommodate us with no problem. The restaurant works on two seattings for larger groups: early (6:30) and later (9:00). The staff does a great job giving you the full experience with explanations and lively service. Though vegetarians may be inclined to shy away from Moroccan food, the staff has alternate dishes to serve at the same time as the main courses. The price is well worth the quality of food and feel this is a great night out for a group of people. The restaurant is a BYOB so you can bring a bottle of your choosing. I have no serious complaint and overall had a wonderful time. The only thing that did slightly bother me was after the dessert was served we were hurried out to make way for the next group. I do understand there is limited space, but I feel that they could have handles the timing better.

Great hidden gem

By Nataliya D |

We went there today for a bday dinner. 1st of all we got to the door and it's locked,so you have to ring the bell and a very nice gentleman opened it. He showed us to our seat. He said pick your meats, do you want spicy chicken or mild and do you want lamb or beef? We chose spicy chicken and lamb. That chicken was so delicious it melts in your mouth. Lamb was ok as it still has that lamb smell and I'm not a fan. Salads ,huge fruit bowl, wine was great. Very nice place, we will be back!

Fun place and dinner was yummy

By Laura J |

I really enjoyed all the courses (7) and love the authentic dining rituals, eating with your hands and sitting on pillows, etc. I'm a bit claustrophobic, so what I didn't enjoy was the close spaces.

A great gettaway. to a beauiful meal in a foreign country... right in Philly!

By David M |

This place is prix fixe. The intimate ambience, authentic artistic decor and middle eastern music are alluring, as are the very solicitous staff. After we settled into our low cushion seating around a massive antique filligreed metal platter on a small pedestal, that served as our table, we were ready for anything. First came a friendly waiter with a big basin and a long-spouted antique teapot of rose-scented hot water to pour over our hands. Then, along with our drinks [good selection; well-mixed cocktails, wines, etc.], came a great large appetizer platter of herbed sautéed carrots, spicy veggies, and a creamy savory eggplant dish, with pita and hot harissa sauce on the side. Then came an amazing chicken pastilla. (This is a very tasty moist concoction of shredded cooked chicken with veggies and herbs, baked inside an ultra-light crunchy/flaky multilayered pastry, covered with confectioners sugar! A sugared chicken dish may seem exotic to western palates, but we've had this before and we loved the version at this place!). Next up was a hot, spicy and juicy, falling-off-the-bone roasted half-chicken with a light tasty glaze. We were already starting to feel stuffed so we slowed down, since this feast was just getting started! Next to arrive were the mains. You get a choice of lamb, chicken or beef (vegetarian options available for each course). My wife had the chicken with a moujaddara-type of lentil dish, and I had the lamb. It was generous, tender, well-cooked hunks of lamb on the bone, in a kind of tagine-type light fruity sauce with almonds on top. Very delicious. We thought surely the next course would be dessert or something, to wrap up the meal... but no! Out came a couscous platter, piled with chickpeas, nuts, raisins and shredded chicken. It was light and delicious, but we could only make a modest dent in it. We were reclining back on the pillows in our cozy corner, and sighing with satisfaction. Then the waiter brought out refreshing mint tea, a big bowl of chilled fruit (strawberries, grapes, apples, oranges, bananas), and a plate of excellent baklava. What a meal! This was our second time at this great little find, and it continues to be a wonderful experience (and not very expensive!).

Amazing Moroccan experience

By mwallerius |

The only reason this restaurant does not get 5 stars across the board is due to the wait, which is really not their fault. We made 8:30 reservations (they only have two seatings on Saturday nights, 5:30 and 8:30). There was a terrible fire near South Street, which delayed the first seating as people did not arrive on time. Because of that, we had to wait outside until 9:30 to be seated. Note - there is no waiting area in the restaurant, you must wait outside. Once we got in, it was absolutely amazing! The wait staff apologized relentlessly for the wait and did everything they could to make up for it. It starts with the ritual washing of the hands at your table. The food (6 courses that you eat with your fingers) was out of this world. I have never had more tender chicken anywhere. There was a belly dancer which worked will with crowd participation. The price was amazing. There were 3 of us, plus we ordered a bottle of wine, and including tip it was well under $150 for all of us combined. I cannot recommend this highly enough. It was well worth the wait.

An adventure in Morrocan dining.

More than a restaurant, it is truly an adventure in dining. True Moroccan food, entertainment and atmosphere. Great menu, fine service, delicious dishes and reasonable prices on food and wine. Definitely a fun night out. Nothing else like this in Philly area.

Good, and interesting

By takeitallin14 |

So, we went here for a birthday party. The service is excellent, they are on it. The portions are HUGE, go hungry, don't fill up on the bread and first courses, even though the eggplant was ridiculously good. I found it a little odd they lock the door (re fire hazard) but it was a good fun experience, and its not too pricey. It is BYOB and cash only, cool motif inside as well.

Fun time at Marakesh!

Snowy day, Yummy Food, Great ambience and you eat with your hands! Our hosts were accommodating and the portions were nice size. We Recommend!

Fun and Exotical

By Dream22524979675 |

I had my birfday dinner here last year... Needless to say, it was pretty awesome. And yes, I know "exotical" is not a real word. It was myself, Boyfriend and another good friend. There is a set menu which, after actually visiting the city of Marrakech, is the absolute norm. Although slightly different, this meal was more delicious than most meals I had in Morocco. The spice profile on every dish was absolutely perfect. Still the best pastilla I've had to this day and is a dish I often daydream about and seriously crave. The chicken with spicy sauce (go for the spicy... DO IT!) will leave you with a "ring of fire" the next morning, but is so insanely worth it. I pretty much loved every dish save for the lamb, but I don't like lamb, and Boyfriend and Good Friend liked it, so I'll take their word for it. Not a huge wine list, and mediocre. I mean, you're going to this restaurant for the food, if you want wine take a short walk to Beau Monde after (which is what we did). Remember, you have to knock on the door when you get there and it will be promptly-ish answered by the owner. The atmosphere is charming, lots of Berber elements and cushy seating. I can't believe that after all the years I lived in Philly it took me coming back to visit to finally eat at this place! I really can't wait to go back.

You have to try it. Highly recommended.

By BHUANG69 |

Came here with two friends. One of my friends had Moroccan food before and loved the food. The place is very intimate and a bit velvety and dark but the overall atmosphere is very good. It's a seven course meal where you may have some selection for each course. First came the salad: three varieties: carrots, hot eggplant salad and cucumber salad. My personal favorite was hot eggplant salad. It was very good. After this I asked the waitress did it count for three courses because I was half way full and she told me that it only counted for one course. Second course was B'stella. It's a sweet pastry dish with chicken in it. Not my cup of tea. Third was chick with lemon and olive -- this takes the cake. The dish was so good. We all voted this as our favorite. Next was lamb with almonds and honey. It was still good but does not compart with the chicken. By the time we finish the lamb we were all so full. So the next few courses like couscous, hot mint sweet tea and baklava we all only had a taste. In the end, they brought a huge plate of fruit. This was a wonderful experience with great food. Strongly recommended to go!

Excellent Food

By Victoria P |

Eating at Marrakesh was unique and it felt like a little piece of Morocco. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. The seven course fixed meal came out steaming hot and through the courses there was an unlimited supply of pita bread that came around frequently. The restaurant was a BYO but they did have a full bar too. The bill came out to $35 per person and the restaurant is cash only. On the night we went there was a belly dancer who did a quick dance for us. Reservations are strongly recommended. When we left the restaurant there was a bachelorette party waiting to enter. The entrance is a little hidden, but it is in an alleyway right off of South Street.

Great experience - Maghreb feast

By PIL-1 |

Marrakesh is an outstanding Moroccan restaurant hat offers a generous feast of a 7 course dinner for a very reasonable price. The food is authentic and outstanding (exception our case, the fresh fruit at the end was not the freshest!), The starter salads, especially the eggplants tasty, chicken bastilla was finger-licking good (everything is eaten with your fingers), the lamb shishlik and the chicken tagine very tender, the couscous tasty but a bit too sweet. Highly recommended...bring lots of time, a big appetite and lots of self-discipline...you don't have to finish everything...the next dish is already being prepared !

Great until.....

Had a birthday party here last night. 9 People and we had to push up our reservation, to which they were very accomodating. Food was very good and service was also good. What prompted me to give them a 3 was that I had called several time inquiring about BYOB and hours etc and not ONE time did they say that it was cash only until 10:30 at night and with a bill over $250.00 I had to scramble into the night on South street looking for an ATM. The party dining next to us had the same experience, and had visited here before when they did accept credit cards. The owner apologized and said that he was "burned" before etc etc etc but what the heck? It really put a major damper on a nice evening.......

Great atmosphere... not so great food

By Tomas K |

We went here with a friend who is from Marocco. After some standing in front (if you are planning to go here, make a reservation), we went inside into something I imagine these places really look. You get to eat with your hands here, and they have a fixed 7-course menu consisting of 2 appetizers, 3 main dishes and teo dessert dishes, but some if the main dishes you can choose between two options. The first starter - salads, eggplants etc. was excellent. The second - a sweet pie with chicken inside I did not enjoy, but this might be just me not prefereing sweet dishes. From the main dishes - the chicken with lemon and olives I'd describe as satisfactory (the chicken itself was good, but sort of dry and tasteless), the lamb was sweet so again not to my taste (but if you like sweet dishes you might like it) and the couscous was again taste-less. After that, we got some fruits & baklava (honestly, having tasted the Greek version, this one was mediocre at best). So, to sum it up - the atmosphere of the place is great. The food is not. Ah, yes, on weekend nights (we've been there on Saturday) they have a bellydancer there, which creates an even more authentic feeling.

Great authentic meal, friendly service

By mspe1960 |

This was one of my most memorable recent dining experiences. Everything was interesting. Nicely and presented, and authentic. The service was fast and super friendly., and a 7 course meal for $25 (plus tax and tip).? I don't know how they do it.

You won't leave hungry!

By Scubachick59 |

Tucked away in an alley adds to the mystique. Knock on the large wooden door and enter another country. The décor is lush and cozy. You sit very near to everyone and get to make new friends. The service is wonderful! All the dishes were explained and they took a lot of care asking about allergies or if anyone was a vegetarian. There is no menu. You are served a variety of courses, all eaten with pita or your fingers. Each item was delicious. A word of advice, pace yourself. Everything is sooo good, it's easy to fill up in the first few courses.

Horrible food !!

By swe1980 |

Horrible food. not sure when the rugs were ever vacuumed. dusty & smelly. They are lazy to even move the stickers on the fruits. they only accept cash. Will never go back nor will recommend anyone.

Good for small groups, fun night out

By rrmambo |

I had seen this place quite a few times off of 5th and South but this was my first visit. We were in a quasi unofficial bachelor party for my wife's nephew and probably the strangest and most unlikely grouping for a "wolf pack" ever, but that is another story. The inside is pretty cool and with the tiles, pillows, decor and it seemed like we walked into someone's house in Morocco. The staff were super friendly and polite and explained Marrakesh has been open for 30 years. Middle Eastern music and Moroccan pop songs played softy in the back ground. The food on the whole was very good. As others has explained the menu is more or less prix fixed and the choices are limited. The staff gives you some modification options but not much. The only down point food wise was our beef kebab was tough and over cooked. Everything else, especially for a bulk serving style was very good. To check out Marrakesh's menu on their webpage http://www.marrakesheast… Marrakesh has a belly dancer on Friday and Saturday nights and that was interesting. One of our group was Egyptian and he said she was quite outstanding. I wouldn't know good belly dancing from bad, so I can't really confirm. The dancing was tasteful and not raunchy. One other thing of note is that with some Mid Eastern and North African cuisines, silver ware is in absentia . Guests are encouraged to eat with their hands as the custom in Morocco. All adding to a unique and sometimes a slightly messy experience. The pricing was pretty reasonable, we were a little under $50.00 per person with 2-3 beers each and gratuity included. Marrakesh does have beer and some drinks. Marrakesh was doing a brisk business with groups like ours, well no group was quite like ours on that night, but with large parties anyway. Marrakesh is cash only. To end the night, we were served fruits, baklava and mint tea. It was really a cool place and we all had a good time.

Awesome dinner

By advaitdixit |

Came here for dinner and was told they have a 7 course meal. But I was not that hungry so they offered me a 4-course dinner for half price which was very nice of them. Food was great accompanied by nice chardonnay. Although I was on a solo trip to Philadelphia, this is a very nice place to visit in a group. Will definitely return on my next trip to the city.

Authentic and Delicious!

By katiek0818 |

This was my first time trying Moroccan food and this place did not disappoint! It was very a very authentic Moroccan experience as well. When we arrived we were seated and given a towel for our laps and our hands were washed with rose water. Then the courses started and everything was DELICIOUS! My boyfriend and I are vegetartian and I was very happy to see that they had very delicious options for us. The meat eaters we were with were also very happy with their food. To top the evening off, there was a belly dancer that came around and even encouraged you to dance with her. It was an amazing experience I won't forget.

The Real Deal___Drop Dead Delicious

By r r g |

Listen, I am partial to this wonderful, wonderful restaurant, having had numerous birthday parties here, & the Most fun with my friends!! But 1st u must know that the seating is Marrakesh style, & that is on VERY low divans. Before u sits a huge fancy brass tray/table, that will be used for all the courses for as many as perhaps 6 folks. You are surrounded by more fancy carpets, wall hangings , pierced brass embellishments & eastern regalia then u might expect. I find it romantic. Your server is Eastern, in native dress & very attentive. There are many courses( When u make your reservation, they will ask your meat selection. ....Expect about 6 courses( inc. Mint tea/ ALL Delicious ,inc. the fab pita..But the Piece de resistance is The Chicken! it will melt in your mouth, there`s nothing like it !!!!! You might ask about the belly dancer, & request one also....Like many sucessful restaurants on South St...the original family still runs the place since the 70`s. So if u want Atmosphere, Romance, Delicious Middle-eastern food @ a very fair PRE-FIXE price..& do not mind eating with your hands, or the pita....this is the place.( ps; their house wine goes down beautifully- Watch Out my friend.....Enjoy ps= seating downstairs can prob accomodate 45...up-stairs a little less, I think

Still worth it

By DiZhiyuan |

Haven't been here in years. Place hasn't changed. The multi-course meal was delicious and more than enough to eat. The price is amazing - $25 per person. Go with the right people (not everyone like to eat with the hands) and you will have an excellent meal and great time!

Great place for group outing

By RAK350 |

I've been here many times over the years. Great place for a group outing, but should be with people who don't mind eating with their hands!

50th birthday celebration

By MadeinPAtraveler |

Group of 15 people for a birthday. We had the upstairs room all to ourselves and it was decorated Moroccan style with a couch like setting and gold tables for our meals. Starting off with cleaning our hands with the rose water and waiter handed out towels for us as a "plate" and napkin at the same time. We had all 7 courses which everyone ate all of. My favorite was the 1st course of salads. The men in my group really enjoyed the chicken course and lamb course. They also have a vegetarian option if you don't want any meat. We had brought some wine and beer since its BYO, and a cake for my mothers birthday. They were very accommodating and pleasant staffing. There was also themed music throughout the meal and they played a song for when we brought the cake out. My only complaint was the temperature was very warm in the room we were in. I highly recommend for a big group, it's not your usual place to pick, but it will surprise you. Excellent experience.

Mixed impressions

By RGSOUNDF |

Not really willing to give the place a negative review, for its owners and the staff are trying hard to recreate the more or less authentic Moroccan atmosphere. The dining experience as a whole is rather interesting, with the pillows seating, center copper table, the lack for utensils for the most part, and the entire hand washing rituals. The only problem we had was the quality and preparation of food itself, and that considering that we just love the Mid-Eastern cuisine. The The Three-Salad Platter (Cooked Eggplants in Tomato Sauce, Cucumbers and Bell Peppers in Mediterranean Seasoning, Oasis Carrots with Cucumber) was merely all right, rather bland and unimpressive. The B’stella (Layered pie with chicken, assorted nuts, almonds, eggs, parsley and onions, topped with confection sugar and traced with cinnamon) was much better, quite exotic and unusual. Chicken with Lemon and Olive was very plain, with hardly distinguishable olives or lemon flavor. Couscons Grand Atlas (Topped with Vegetables, Chick Peas and Raisins) was in our opinion the best dish served (you also get spoons for this dish), but then again Marinated Berber Beef Shish Kebab was poorly prepared, the meat hard and chewy. The dessert, on the other hand, which included Basket of Fresh Fruits, Hot Mint Tea and Moroccan Pastries was quite good. On the positive note though, the restaurant though serving liquors does still allow its customers to BYOB, something we hardly have ever seen in any other places. So we still think it is an interesting experience, and recommend it as worth visiting. We just wish the owners to work more on the taste aspect of the menu, and not just its authenticity.

Not your usual dining experience, fun, good food, great atmosphere

By srvvintagegal |

If you like bellydancing, yummy spicy food, darkly lit sitting on rugs and cushions, this is a great place. Its always crowded try to get a reservation but if they can squeeze you in they will do there best to get you a place. Big portions of spiced foods, you are bathed in rose water on your hands the meal is fun, great for a big group or couples...right off south street its a great hidden gem of Philly! It was a great time, they finish the meal with tea and fruit, super traditional, not super expensive either!

Hidden Gem

By BR |

Had an amazing meal at Marrakesh this past weekend. Couldn't find much on line, but we went with another couple and hoped for the best. The staff was friendly and inviting and the food was fantastic. The meal was a set menu of 6 or 7 courses served family style, there were a couple choices along the way regarding protein choice. Would highly recommend

Fun evening!

By Annette O |

Go with a group of friends and family that you don't mind "digging into your food" with! Every course is eaten with your fingers - no silverware. And the food is delicious and bountiful. No way will you be hungry after your meal. The service was excellent and we had a super fun night!

Excellent Moroccan meal

Cozy middle eastern restaurant. 7 course prix fix for $25 each. Down an alley. Front door locked. Not the place you stumble upon. But we were glad that we went. Food good. Fun experience.

Best meal I've ever had. The food was outstanding, the service was great and the atmosphere made me feel like I was in Morocco. Stepped out of my comfort zone and was pleasantly surprised. We will be back!!

Perfect Evening

A group of us went to Marrakesh to celebrate our friend's wedding. It was the best food I have ever had in my life, the service was excellent, and the hosts thought of extra touches to make it the perfect evening. Thank you!

Beautiful!

By Allison W |

This is not just a restaurant but an experience ! Walking through the side door you quickly will notice this from floor to ceiling decorations. Food is phenomenal and they are super accommodating with diet restrictions ((vegetarian)). I also love that you can BYOB or order from the bar. Perfect combination ! It can be an intimate experience with your partner or suitable for a large group !

Great place for a fun group night out

By PhillyRubio |

This place was wonderful for our group of co-workers. We had one delicious course after another with a glass or two of wine. The waiters were extremely attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. We were in a red room on the third floor and it actually made me feel like I was back in Morocco again....I highly recommend this experience for everyone!!

We were transported

Wow! It was such a treat enjoying the food and atmosphere at this special place. Thanks for such a delightful experience and delicious food. What a find…our tour guide earlier in the day was surprised we were going to such a great, local spot. I guess the word is out.

It was okay.

By hollyolshefski |

My family went to Marrakesh this past Sunday night to celebrate my sister's birthday. We were a party of 10 and were excited to go to this restaurant after reading so many great reviews about it. I have to say, the food was good--not GREAT--the atmosphere was quirky but nothing special. The towels they give you to wipe your hands on are old, rough and dingy looking. And the service was nothing special. We were hardly seated when the server asked us to decide what we wanted for dinner. He knew this was our first time and when quickly through our options with little explanation of the meal options. The meal itself was good. But the service was SLOW and it was not even busy. We waited for a total of 30 minutes between the last 2 courses. Then it took another 15 minutes to get the check after they cleared the dessert dishes away...it was boring and far too long to get a check! There were no belly dancers that night and it was a generally kind of dull experience, though the company was great ;) that lasted for 3 hours when we could have been done definitely by 2 and felt good about it. Overall, I think the evening was a disappointment and it was overpriced for what we got ($25 prix fixe).

My Moroccan Husband Gives it 2 Thumbs Up!

By Shanna |

My husband is from Morocco, and gets disappointed when he gets what he calls "Moroccan / American Food" at places that claim to be Moroccan. He was NOT disappointed at Marrakesh! The flavors were bringing back so many memories for him - it was fun to watch him eat! First they have you wash your hands with rose water - since only one of the 7 courses comes with a utensil - the rest you eat with your hands! They give you as much pita bread as you need - which my husband says is more Lebanese than Moroccan - but it worked. The dishes that followed were delicious! We were not at all disappointed! It cost $35 per person, and that included the tip. Our server was extra kind when for the one course I wanted the beef and my husband wanted the lamb. Normally you share one dish - but instead he brought us each what we wanted - which was awesome! Plan to allow extra time to get there, since parking is a challenge. We ended up paying $18 to park in a nearby lot, since all of the street parking was full. We drove from Lancaster County, so the tolls weren't cheap either! Because of the cost, it's going to just be a place for special occasions for us - but it was very good and if you are looking for authentic Moroccan food - it's the place to go!

Very nice place, very good meal, at a very good price. You get a 7 course meal for $25.00 no including beverage but you can bring your own. The belly dancer was good and we have a very good time there.

Dinner with family

By Redbubbles1111 |

So we decided to try Mediterranean during my visit with family and noticed this place had very good reviews. We were not disappointed. The environment was cozy, food delicious, entertainment was great. We will definitely visit Samir and his restaurant again.

And a belly dancer too!

By David G |

If you eat your pizza or chicken nuggets with a knife and fork, this place is not for you. There is limited seating by reservation only for a pre-fixe menu at $25.00 per person. There is a lot of food served in a setting to make you think that your are in a foreign location. Rug covered walls, soft seating, brass platter on a table for your platters of food. First you wash your hands with rosewater and dry on a towel. You each have your own towel to cover your lap then the food begins. Thin flat bread with 3 salads; a warm eggplant and tomato with herbs and olive oil; cold cucumber and tomato and a chilled carrot salad with lemon and vinegar. All were very good, my favorite was the eggplant. Did I mention you eat with your hands? No utensils. Next course is chicken bastilla made with layers of a thicker fillo dough filled with chicken, hard cooked eggs, almonds, cinnamon and powdered sugar. Next is roasted 1/2 chicken. Be forewarned that the cumin spiced chicken is very spicy. They replaced it with chicken cooked in olive oil, herbs and olives. Feel off the bone. Excellent. Next we chose the roast lamb over the beef. Cooked with honey and almonds. Very good. Also fell off the bone. Cous Cous with vegetables was next. I had one spoonful just to taste. I was too full. You do get a spoon for the cous cous. Lastly, whole fruit and baklava with mint tea. You just want to be rolled out of there. There is a bar. I had the house red wine and my wife the house white. Simple and easy to drink. A very good experience, but need to bring stretch pants the next time.

Birthday party of 10: denied credit cards and asked to leave for next seating...ridiculous...

By mikeslon |

Had a birthday party of 10 at a 6:30pm seating: we called 3 times to confirm, and not once had anyone mention that this is a cash/personal checks only place...; we were asked to leave for the next seating at 8:30, so you only have two hours or else you are out...and if you are late, it shortens the time to even less than that. The food was ok but not enough we thought, the towels they give smelled like cooking oil, which wasn't very appetizing..., carpet so dirty throughout the whole place that the shoes were literally sticking onto it as we walked...no joke! eww! the place is old looking inside and out, and not the kind of old that makes it look authentic but the kind that just makes it look old and dirty...

Unusual Experience, Be prepared for an adventure

By Herm B |

A group of 17 celebrated a family members 50th Birthday., it was a fun experience and although I am not a fan of eating with my fingers or the Moroccan cuisine I was along with the family group. It was a delightful experience - the family ranged from 9 - 75 years of age so everyone was expecting something unique. We got it. Great for a new experience.

My experience

By 666Sam888 |

You enter a dark place called "restaurant" thinking you are going to have a blast with plenty of authentic "Marrakesh" food in a very clean place. Finding a parking spot was a nightmare. I do not know why the place is so dark. May be so that you cannot see the poor organization of the place and significant lack of hygiene and cleanness of all those rugs hanging all over the place (certainly a safety hazard). Be ware, this is going to be a very pricey experience! You are going to pay $25 per person + tax + required 18% tip and no any types of drinks are included! Also, you MUST pay in cash. For that amount of money, this is certainly very expensive that was not worth it in my opinion.

Must Go

By ByTheBeach_77 |

This is a must go for everyone. We are big foodies, and wanted to try all Philadelphia had to offer. After looking around I was able to find this little gem. It is located in a compact location, so for those not from the city, it may be hard to find. We got and there, and there was a big green door, and it was locked. We first thought it was odd, but then someone came to the door, and this place was packed inside. There was no space to sit downstairs, so they escorted us upstairs. Which was fine with us, it was empty upstairs and had a more romantic vibe. The food was AMAZING, to say the least. This is a 7 course meal, for $25 per person. You can't beat that. The food was wonderful, the service was wonderful. We will definitely be going back.

Flavorful

By SuzanneGarber |

We went with friends for the $25 7 course tasting menu. I am gluten free so I did not get the full experience of pita bread at every course but I appreciated how they accommodated my allergy. The first course starts off with three different kinds of salads--all full of flavor and differently tasting. The next was an egg custard--almost like a flan. I had it without the phyllo dough. Sweet and cinnamon-y. Next was super tender baked chicken with spice dipping sauce reminiscent of Buffalo sauce. Fourth was a gummy lamb dish followed by a chicken stew with soaked raisins and pumpkin (it came with couscous for the non-gluten free). A cookie was the sixth course followed by whole apples, oranges and bananas, which I noticed most people left on their tables. I took ours home--I paid for it and didn't get a cookie so why not? There were several belly dancers throughout the house but none came to our specific room. The bathroom window was open and unable to be shut so the toilet was freezing. Hot mint tea was served at the very end and the staff push alcoholic drinks on you throughout the dinner. They were reasonably priced but we did not order any. With so much fabric (pillows, couches, tapestry) everywhere, I did wonder about the cleanliness of everything (how often are those washed)? Otherwise, it was a fun event; not something I would do again soon but a fun evening out.

What a great dining experience

By Gene L |

Tucked away on a small street off of South Street is one great find. The host was wonderful, the setting like a home in Morocco and great food. What more could one want. Starting off with washing your hands in rose water, you eat with those hands to the first course that included the best cooked eggplant ever onto two main courses like melt in you mouth chicken and lamb and more. Then a fruit bowl and pastries. The setting, the meal the relaxed feeling one gets all lend itself to a dining experience.

Birthday dinner

By Glynis W |

Amazing evening with 7 friends. Once you knock on the door you are greeted like a friend. The food was wonderfully prepared the lemon chicken was so tender it was falling apart. The belly dancer was beautiful and was a delight to watch. She took time with a young girl to show her some moves. We loved the fact that our party felt special with such great service. Since it was my birthday I was gifted with a chilled bottle of wine thank you. We are looking forward to coming back soon.

A hidden gem

By Sari Al |

Well, it's nice to know those hidden spots in your own city. This restaurant has been around for almost 38 years. and it is a great find! Dining here makes you feel like you are in Morocco. It won't be just a meal but an experience! Ring the doorbell and the welcoming host will open the door to your unique experience. You will be seated on cushions and low tables, surrounded by authentic Arabic rugs and entertained by belly-dancers if you come on Friday or Saturday nights. You will start by washing your hands with rose water since you will be eating with your hand as the Moroccan traditional way. Then a feast of 7-course prix fixe meal will be served. The first course was the first appetizers, delicious and healthy chopped tomato and cucumber salad, yummy carrots, and a wonderful refreshing flavorful mashed eggplant dip-like, you will want a second! Followed by Morocco's famous pie, the second appetizer comes out, a warm and crunchy Chicken Bastilla. Layers of phyllo pastry with chicken and topped with powdered sugar. Not my favorite since I was not able to decide if it was an appetizer or a dessert. The pleasurable and exotic chicken with Cumin Sauce is so spicy and tender that your taste buds will come alive! You got to choose between the Beef Shish Kebab or Lamb Tajne with Almonds and Honey. I'm in favor of the Marinated Kebab. And the Couscous was not disappointing at all, just enough flavor for me. For dessert, by far they have the best Baklava I've ever had. A taste of home! Expect to be there for at least 2.5hr min with a food coma for all to die for food. P.S: It is cash only $25/person.

Love it here!

By Megan M |

Yes yes yes. If you’re thinking about giving Marrakesh a visit, the answer is yes. You need to go. The atmosphere feels so authentic it’s like you traveled to another country without even leaving the city. The food is so flavorful your taste buds will explode. In a good way. The service was fabulous. So kind. Sam was our server and we had an absolute blast with him. What a treat of a night. P. S. Cash moneys only & byob

More than just a dinner...an experience.

By knb0187 |

I always try to find the more "unique" restaurants and although this was my second time dining at Marrakesh, it was just as unique and tasty as ever. From having to knock or ring the door bell to enter, to being sat with towels on your lap and hands being washed with rose water, this is definitely a restaurant for those with a more adventure palette should experience. It's BYOB, a definite plus and for the price it was well worth a 7 course meal. Try it!

A Dining Experience that you won't f forget

By Joel G |

Never having been to Morocco, some in our party were not prepared for a new dining experience. The meal was good, but eating without utensils and all from a large central bowl was something of a taste to be acquired.

Private party upstairs

By gypsy41 |

A nice private party area upstairs w 30 of us around 3 tables eating communal food without utensils! It was delicious, but you have to be ready for the experience! It is dark but richly decorated, feels very cozy. They were very nice and helpful. Everyone gets a full sized towel to drape over their lap as a napkin. They also will give 1 set of forks and small plates if you ask. Those of us who have been to Morocco said it was quite good and authentic! Hard to actually see what you are eating. but it was good and messy. There is a roaming bellydancer but we requested no dancer since we had family speeches. We used taxi bc parking is tough. Family owned. very nice. I would recommend!

Delightful Experience!!!

By Betty L |

Our children took us to Marrakesh to celebrate my husband's birthday. What a wonderful and delicious experience! It's a price fixe meal with 7 courses. We were a group of 4 and we were extremely full but managed to sample every dish brought out to us. Our most favorite was a phyllo wrapped chicken dish dusted with powdered sugar. It tasted like a dessert but was considered an appetizer. Terrific! Our least favorite were the kabobs of meat ( lamb). Rather tough. Overall an excellent time. We were not rushed at all. Reservations were must on a Saturday night. Parking in the South street area i difficult but we managed to find a spot.

Don't worry, you will be on time for the show or movie....

By Zelvis |

I love trying different kinds of foods and I had heard wonderful things about this restaurant. I went with a few friends for a belated birthday celebration. We did make a reservation, we arrived on time and were seated immediately. The atmosphere is beautiful, just as I had expected. Very intimate and the setting looks authentic. Comfy couches, beaded lamps and pillows. low lighting and authentic music. The different courses are served on a large tray. There are no utensils. You use pita like bread (Khobz) or your fingers to pick up the food. The waiter greeted us right away. There is a preset 7 course meal that is shown on their website and the server also reviews each course. Each course was served on one large platter and shared by your party. I have to say that although the atmosphere was pleasing, the food was tasty....but I felt extremely rushed. One course after the other...boom boom boom. I felt as though we were being watched and as soon as we took a break to talk or breath...someone was there to clear the platter. I did at one point tell the server that we were not yet finished and we wanted to take our time. He responded kindly..and said something like no problem...but the feeling of being rushed...continued. I understand..that the restaurant is small and has limited space but I had been looking forward to this for away and I wanted to enjoy it..and again...I felt like they needed the table for a later reservation and wanted to get us moving. We arrived at 5:30 and were out the door before 7:00. The food was good...but honestly nothing over the top...amazing. I would suggest this restaurant to friends... but I do not think I would return. The meal is a set price...$25.00 a person with 18% gratuity included.

Great little place

By southjerseydinergal |

I can't believe this place is ranked so low here! This is a must place to eat at... at least if you live in Philly, you have to try it at least once. This place sits right off of south street and the placement of the restaurant is very odd, since it is mostly residential. The place looks like a house, lol. Don't expect it to be "wow" indoors. It is super tight and very reminiscent of traditional morrocan structures. As part of that tradition you may wind up eating with others. The dishes they serve are amazing from the first course of pita and veggies to the honey lamb (it is to die for) not much of a liquor selection, but choose the burgundy goes great with all the courses. The bathroom is scary has a tub in it. However, it's what brings it's unique charm. This place has been here for years and it's the food and the overall experience in what has brought people back. I still have dreams of their lamb!

An interesting, unique and welcoming moroccan haveli style eatery

By ZJ-2018 |

While visiting Philly for a musical event and museum experience, I came across a brief review on Marrakesh at the hotel's recommendation book. Prior to being at Marrakesh, I hadn't tried a formal moroccan cuisine except for trying some combination of couscous at Epcot in Florida. Well, I called an hour in advance to make a reservation. I was greeted by a decent voice on the other side. The manager assured me that my experience will be in line with the review I had read. After getting a cab from downtown Philly, I walked into the alley and knocked at the restaurant door. That's the custom. Very sweet and made me wonder if I was actually headed to Morocco. I was greeted by a wide-eyed attendant. I mentioned my reservation and stepped into a whole new world. The restaurant is approximately 34 years old. It has 3-4 levels and each level has approximately 10-12 flight of stairs covered with carpets. The walls are fully covered with small pieces of rugs with beautifully ornated sacred quotes. Each level was filled with guests huddled around big metallic platters. These platters had dishes come and go. The restaurant does not have a menu, it offers a 7-course meal. The attendant announces the courses and their details. Before I started the meal, my hands were washed with rose water, first course=salad (vegetarian), second course=chicken and almond pastry with some sweet dough, third course=spinach pie(since I did not opt for lamb and beaf), 4th course=steam chicken with a special sauce, 4th course=couscous with raisins, 5th course=fruit, and last but not least dessert with mint tea. I may have combined a course or two but overall the quality of all dishes was excellent. I loved my first course the most - the salad was delicious through and through. I picked mild spices through and through and despite that I was very happy with the flavor of the food. It was well cooked and well done! Indeed, a great chef's work. I must mention that I was truly impressed by the service as the kitchen was on a different level and the servers were going up and down with all courses at each table and to make everyone feel special and introduce each course with a smile was indeed a huge undertaking. Hats off to the service at this exotic location. Since I was there on a Saturday night, I had another surprise in store - belly dancing. The dancer was indeed a professional who was in for a workout and probably dropped a few pounds in each round. I am not a belly dancing fan but while waiting for my table, I had a chat with the belly dancer and she seemed very focused on ensuring that she was entertaining each floor. Indeed an interesting experience. Last but not least, I must add that the set-up makes you think that you are indeed in Morocco and Marrakesh does an exceptional job in taking you there. If I have to change one thing, I would request to have the mint tea with no sugar. The restaurant could not entertain my request as tea is made in bulk and it's offered like that. I must thank the host and his staff for making my experience a special one. I would highly recommend the readership to try Marrakesh on their visit to Philly. Make sure you take cash with you as the restaurant does not accept credit cards.

An experience.

The restaurant serves norh African fare in small rooms chuck full of upholstered furniture and draped walls so it is quite quiet. No utensils are provided and you use bread and fingers to eat. They serve a 7 course price fixed menu in an assemble line set up. OH, I almost forgot the belly dancers. An interesting evening.

Fun ambiance, bad food and service

Cash only!! They don't take credit cards!! The place is decorated nicely, you feel the Moroccan culture. The food was sub par, trust me I'm Lebanese and I've eaten in a bunch of Moroccan places.

Interesting

By Zeta R |

We were first time patrons of this Moroccan restaurant. When we entered, I got the instant claustrophobic feeling. There are no windows and its very, very small inside. one exit in and out and the door is kept locked. You have to ring the bell to get let in. The was 1 server for all patrons. They start by washing your hands with rose water. It was very pleasant and refreshing. the 1st course was a 2 salad assortment blanched carrots; eggplant; tomato/cucumber. You are given pita bread to scoop up the food. all of the 2 were delicious. The next course was a whole baked chicken with lemon and broth. It was tender through and through. A dish, however, you could duplicate at home. The 5th course was beef shish kabob with onion and green pepper. It was cooked well done and marinated with berber. The 6-7 course was Moroccan pastries, mint tea and fresh fruit platter. The fresh fruit consisted of oranges, apples, bananas, grapes and strawberries with ice piled on the top. Unfortunately they decided not to wash the front as it came out with the stickers still on each of the items. The tea was delicious and the pastries were very, very, very sweet. No one could eat them. Although the food was very good, the atmosphere needs a definite re-hab and a good cleaning.

Must go!!

The whole experience is surreal. Food is unbelievable. You eat without utensils but food is so good that you won't care. One set menu but so rich and delicious that no need for substitutions. Go empty stomach and comfortable clothes. Amazing place for groups. You can bring your own wine too. Highly recommend to call and make reservations.

Wonderful, eclectic experience

our second visit to marrakesh and it was equally wonderful as the first! Delicious ethnic food, belly dancers, plush cushions and oriental rugs, started off with hand washing in rose water.

7 Course Couscous Athentic

By nettlebayguy |

This was actual good food with a “7 course meal” although they could have put it all on one big plate of couscous. Instead they break out the vegetable from the lamb etc… Still it is authentic food.

Must Do!

By billy333 |

This place has been around for ever and it still delivers! Hidden in a little alley off of South St., you would never even know it was there. You have to knock on the door to get in. Love that! The place is huge on the inside. Great for a group event. The menu is fixed, something like 7 courses and you'll be stuffed. Food is pretty good for the price. You sit on cushioned couches with all the Morrocan ambiance. It'll take maybe 1.5 to 2 hrs, byob, and on the weekends Belly Dancers. Ha! All for like $25 plus tax and tip. Unbelievable. Sounds like I'm selling it but thats really how I feel about it. Everybody should go here at least once.

Yum!

By LuxeTraveler_9 |

Just go! You will love it! There's a multiple-course meal and entertainment at night. Hefty bill, but even if you just once, it's a great experience!

Awesome Experience

By PareshMotiwala |

This one just came up on google search without mentioning a type of cuisine, while we were walking in downtown Philly. At first it felt creepy with us having to knock on the door in a small alley, in not a very illustrious neighborhood of Philly. But, the moment the owner at down to explain what to expect, I was baffled. He explained that there was not "A La Carte" and that we had to be treated to a full dinner menu which comprised of an appetizer, a salad, two entrees(If I am not mistaken) and ended with a bowl of fresh fruits and baklawa. The classic Moroccan style was washing our hands for us in a bowl with rose water. The environs was very similar to the middle eastern venues I have been to during my days in the middle east. The seating was also very ethnic. Food served in a large ornate bronze plate. The quantity of food was perfect. it was a little too much for my wife and I. But we enjoyed it. He also obliged us with a special hot sauce. All in all it is a must. Remember three things: Parking can be an issue. Go if you are really hungry and open to eating with fingers(forks are available of course) There is no menu to select from! And Yes. They accept CASH ONLY.

Lost its luster

As someone who has been to Marrakesh many times since the late 80s, my latest trip there was thoroughly disappointing. One of the many things I loved about Marrakesh was the complete sensory experience of it: the mystery of going beyond the huge door that you had to knock on, at which point a large man in traditional Moroccan clothing would greet you; then entering into a dimly lit den of sensual pleasures of music, incense, and heady food aromas. You felt like you were transported to another place, and you were looking forward to the journey. Then gorgeous dishes of food placed before you where you communally shared. The pace was leisurely, indulgent, hedonistic. And you left feeling like you had just been spoiled rotten . Fast forward to 2023 Greeted at the door by a gentleman in a black polo with Marrakesh embroidered on it. Looked like he worked at a pizza joint Went into the dining room that was screaming in bright light. No mystery. No sensuousness. The gorgeous thick homemade bread they had has been replaced by pitas But the absolute worst for me They gave us styrofoam plates and plastic utensils ARE YOU F***ING SH***ING ME? A formal sit down ethnic restaurant? The manager kept touting that the’ve been in business for 47 years Dude, I’ve been going there for over 30 years. The food isn’t as good as it was. You’ve shied away from the spices and the atmosphere You had a damn gold mine and you’re blowing it Sure, you’ll capture the suburbanites who think they’re being edgy. But, they’ll eventually tire of you. In the meantime, you’re losing your base Bonne chance

Exotic & interesting experience

By CPA62 |

This place is amazing , Marrakesh is an authentic Moroccan restaurant. The food here is great and the servers are very friendly. Make sure to bring plenty of room for all seven courses. This is definitely not a place to go if you're in a hurry, so make sure to set aside the evening and take the time to soak in the experience! Bring cash, they don't take credit cards, and give yourself plenty of time to find a parking spot in the BUSY South St. area. The ambiance and decor felt like being in a restaurant in Morocco. Since the space is limited, please make sure to make a reservation.

Dinner with a twist

By meg T |

Went with friends. Knew i was in for an adventure. Food in presented on a platter for all to share. No utensils or plates. Don't panic they give you a large towel to put on your lap - keeps your clothes and hands clean. Many courses are pre-determined with choice of meat offered for later courses. I really enjoyed the experience and food. We brought our own wine.

Favorite restaurant in Philly

By KChaplinsky |

I've been to Marrakesh 3 times and can safely say it's my favorite restaurant in the city. It's a great place for a party, large dinner, or date (maybe not the first date since you'll be eating with your hands!). Don't go if you have plans later on...you'll feel rushed and won't be able to enjoy the experience. Marrakesh should be your main event. Have friends visiting from out of town? Take them to Marrakesh and afterward take a quick, 5 min. walk to the Liberty Bell. I recommend going on a Friday or Saturday so you can see the belly dancer.

Nourished Soul

By Miriam B |

Marrakesh has been a family-owned business for 43 years and it is obvious they are great at what they do. Our fixed price (cash only) meal was a tremendous value for the quality and quantity of delicious food we were served. It’s the kind of place that you want to savor with a group of family and friends. Dinner is served at a pace that allows time for good conversation. I lost count of the number of courses. Just know that each course was a delight to the senses, particularly for someone who loves Mediterranean fare.

My favorite in Philadelphia!

By MSVAY |

We took a friend there for her birthday dinner, and although she is a vegetarian and we are not, Marrakesh accommodated all three of us. The food was fabulous, the decor is delightful, and the portions are huge! Be sure not to eat a big lunch before you go.

Wonderful visit

By Holly M |

For our final dinner during our visit for my stepdaughter's graduation from Penn, 8 of us headed to Marrakesh for dinner. Since making the reservation, my mother-in-law had had a health crisis, and was having difficulty walking. When we arrived, they started to put us in a room upstairs, but when we explained she couldn't do stairs they quickly made arrangements for us on the ground level, even politely asking another couple if they would mind shifting to an adjacent table for us (which they graciously did). When she arrived they were very helpful in getting her seated carefully. So I was pre-disposed to enjoy the meal without eating a thing! The decor is very reminiscent for me of Turkey (the closest I've been to the actual Marrakech) with pillows and embroidered wall hangings and soft, dim lighting from hanging lanterns. There is no menu, just a set 7 course meal. They start by asking if there are any vegetarians (me) and I got my own separate plate for each meat course, including some of the best Mujadera (or whatever the Moroccan version of Mujadera is called) I've ever had. The others swooned over the lamb - my husband was tempted to take the remainders, but he didn't think a 10 hour drive home the next day would be good for it. There are a couple courses where you choose between two different meats, but that's about the only choosing you do. Good variety, good food every course and excellent, attentive service all through. We were never rushed - though they kept the meal moving, it was still a leisurely couple of hours that we spent there. Clearly they are accommodating to larger groups, as well as being a pretty exotic, romantic place for couples. We ended with honey drenched baklava, and proceeded to roll ourselves out the door and back to our various hotels. Things to know: *The front door is kept locked - you need to knock to be admitted. If you arrive in daylight, the transition to the dark interior is abrupt and it will take your eyes a minute or so to adjust. *Be aware that they do not sell alcohol, but you can bring in whatever you wish to have and they take care of serving it for you. *It's all too easy to eat too much on the first course or two and run out of room for the rest. That would be a shame as the later courses are equally good. All in all, it's a lot of food! *Cash only, price fixed, tip will be added for groups (can't say for smaller parties). So bring physical money!

I don't know that I would go again, but it was a great experience. Authentic atmosphere and good service, delicious food, and a great belly dancer. Go and have fun! It will be memorable.

TOTAL FIRE HAZZARD

By Doogiedown |

I'm am in shock that this place is allowed to be open. There is jazz adds all over the place. On the 2nd floor going between rooms you have to cross over a part of the steps (they installed a pole) so u can hold on to cross over the steps. Very steep steps. The place is very dark so u cannot see very well. There isn't 1!!!!...not 1 emergency light in this place. 1 fire would cause mass hysteria in this place as all the windows are covered with rugs...the dining experience is unique but this is a disaster waiting to happen. I'm a little disappointed i the Philly building department for allowing this hazard of a restaurant to be open...

The food is great!

By Laura Z |

I had been to the Marrakesh in Delaware (which I loved!) and was owned by the same owners so I had high expectations. The restaurant is hard to find and you have to knock so they can open it for you. The space is small but eclectic and a good use of center city space. However, while the food was OK, it was not quite what I was hoping for. It was good, but not great. The staff is still very friendly and it is fun to go to once to experience a 7 course meal. If you go on a Saturday night you should see a belly dancer perform.

The setting is nice and...

By Tomo T |

The setting is nice and everything, but the core food is overpriced and somewhat bland. Still in search of a place that serves authentic tasting tajin and couscous...

Great Meal! Great Experience!

By JQWilli |

Went after seeing Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the Wells Fargo Center with friends and was not disappointed with this 'hole-in-the-wall' gem off of South Street! Reservations are recommended, especially close to weekends or with large groups, as this seems to be a popular place for locals. You are seated at a round-table with pillows so our party of 6 were seated comfortably. As other raters state: This is a prix fixe of $25 per person. Drinks are reasonably priced. There are seven set courses of the meal. Be prepared to take your time, relax, and enjoy your company and the food! Keep in mind that if you have food considerations (ours were one gluten-free and one vegetarian), the wait staff is more than happy to accommodate with variations on the dishes. Keep in mind that this is 'Traditional' middle eastern style fare. Meaning that if you have problems with 'double dipping' with pita bread or 'eating with your fingers' you need to take your business somewhere more Westernized where you will be more comfortable! All in all, a filling meal with wonderous flavors. We even had one big eater who had to plead 'No Mas' after trying his best to wolf down every course. He only made it to #4 before tapping out!) This is a marathon, not a sprint, so enjoy the following 2 1/2- 3 hours with good friends and good food! Not to be missed!!!!

A fun evening out

By UmTareq |

The charm of this Moroccan diner is in the fact that it's intimate and recreates the mystery of Arabia. A seven course menu is served after washing your hands at your table with rose water. No utensils are offered, you dig into the communal platter with the rest of your party. Arabic music in the background sets the scene, and the host is very friendly and welcoming.

If you like middle eastern, you need to go here

We go about once a year. Great food in abundance. Outstanding service. Can't say enough other than: "ya gotta go"

Birthday Celebration

By Riwillcher |

FYI: make a reservation, cash only, BYOB, price fix, parking is challenging leave extra time to find parking. We had a wonderful fun time here celebrating a birthday. Dinner started with hand washing with a lovely rose water and ended with a delicious mint tea. We enjoyed the food & belly dancer. We couldn't have picked a better place for a birthday party.

Amazing Experience

By Midevilb |

This place is amazing... located right in the middle of the action on South St. (Just 1/2 a block off South St to be exact), Marrakesh is an authentic Moroccan restaurant. The food here is great and the servers are very friendly. Make sure to bring plenty of room for all seven courses, but you probably still won't fit it all in :) This is definitely not a place to go if you're in a hurry, so make sure to set aside the evening and take the time to soak in the experience! Bring cash, they don't take credit cards, and give yourself plenty of time to find a parking spot in the BUSY South St. area. Not to take away from the food, but the experience, ambiance, decor and most of all the performer was what did it for me. The bellydancing was one of the finest performances I've seen!!! The dancers website can be found here: www.alimahamani.com

Absolutely Amazing!

I was here with friends and we all had a very good time and the food was delicious. There was a large quantity of food and multiple courses. The entire staff was very friendly and welcoming. The dining rooms were very cozy. Overall great experience.

A National Treasure

By Susan C |

First time at The Marrakesh was in early 1980's with a new boyfriend who knew about this wonderful place. It was winter and a snowy night and we were only ones. It was an experience I'll never forget as each course was exquisite and then we were served the Chicken Bastilla which I believe is the Moroccan National Dish. What I remember is pulled chicken with almonds with an exquisite sauce in a phyllo dough pastry sprinkled with confectioners sugar and cinnamon. Then I bought my first Middle Eastern cookbook and forever more knew my most favorite food was from that region. How delighted to discover The Marrakesh continues and is still superb. Congratulations to the Owners!

A+ for Atmosphere, Food Needs Work

By clm1113 |

We went here to celebrate my birthday just last night. When we arrived at the restaurant, there was already a host outside taking care of a party in front of us. He told us to wait but eventually ushered us into the very small entryway (it fits 4 people uncomfortably) because it was a bit chilly outside. He kept checking outside every few minutes to see if any new guests had arrived. We had an 8:30 reservation, but didn't get seated until after 9. It was fine with us, we realized that they were very busy and we had time to wait. The host was very apologetic and kept coming to update us. He did eventually bring us complimentary glasses of wine because of the long wait, so that was nice gesture. We were seated up on the third floor, in a small room with 3 other tables. It was very cozy and romantic with the dimmed lighting and Moroccan decor. Seating was on low, comfortable couches with low tables as well. The room probably would hold about 20 people, so I thought it would be a neat idea to reserve the whole room for a special occasion. Service started immediately, with hand washing followed with the salad course and pita right afterward. Service continued to be quick, but not rushed, throughout the meal. The whole meal took about 2 hours, so be prepared to spend some time here if you go. Here's my take on each of the courses: Salad Course-AMAZING! All three salads were delicious and full of flavor. Picking a favorite is a tough choice, but I'd have to say it was the warm eggplant dip. Chicken Bastilla-I was definitely not a fan of this. The texture was a little weird and I don't really like savory and sweet flavors mixed together. Spicy Chicken-Another amazing dish!! It was so tender and fell right off the bone. It wasn't overly spicy, just enough to give it a nice kick. Beef Kebabs-Yummy and flavorful with onions and peppers. Large pieces of meat. Cous Cous-I love cous cous and was so disappointed with this! The flavor just wasn't there and it tasted flat. Fresh Fruit, Mint Tea, and Baklava-The fruit and tea were just fine but the baklava left a lot to be desired. The taste was off and just wasn't as good as a lot of baklava I've had. I've actually had a lot better at simple mediterranean takeout places. There was also a belly dancer that came in for a few minutes and performed during dinner, so that was a cool thing to add to the experience. This restaurant is an excellent option who are not looking for just a meal, but a whole experience. And eating with our hands was a nice break from the usual. I would definitely return here, but I really do hope they can make improvements to some of the lackluster dishes!

Best experience we had!

By Katie C |

This is one of the best eating experiences I have had! I remembered this place from 30 years ago when I lived in Philly, and it was much better that I even remembered! This is authentic Moroccan dining for one fixed price. The place is small and intimate, so make sure you make a reservation! When you arrive you knock on the door and wait for the waiter to greet you. You are seated on pillow covered benches around a round table. The waiter will take your drink order (very inexpensive) and then the fun begins! This is a seven course meal starts with amazing marinated veggies, then is followed by a hot appetizer, chicken, lamb, etc. and ends with fresh cold fruit and baklava! If you have never had Moroccan, this is the place to try - its amazing! The staff is wonderful, the decor is beautiful and the food is delish!

Excellent food, better atmosphere!

By RWWhite |

Had dinner with a group last week. An intimate setting with friendly staff. We were there on Friday, so there was a belly dancer, which added to the experience. I'd say this is best with a group of 3 or more, as it lends to a social experience with friends or family. Make sure you're hungry, there is more food than you can possibly eat.

It is very dark

By Awesome_Coral |

I was there based on someone's idea. But once we get there, it was very unusual. It is very dark. the door is locked and it reminds me of some scary places that I saw in movies. They told us it would be 25$ and you have to eat by hand. It was expensive to me and I hate to eat by hand. So, I left that place.

An experience, not just a meal

By missalg |

My first visit to Marrakesh was in 1985, just prior to visiting Morocco. There have been a few subtle changes, but all in all the experience remains the same, and it's lovely: seven courses of succulent and beautifully flavored food, an amazing ambiance that transports you right to the medina, and a shared dining experience that is very sociable. Everyone should be prepared for eating with their fingers, but it really just adds to the sensory experience. And at under $35 per person, it's a true bargain. The very sweet mint tea (as well as the rest of the food, of course) is very authentically Moroccan and is a nice way to round off the meal.

Great experience but disappointing food

By BusyBizTraveler |

Eating at Marrakesh feels like dining at your Moroccan mom's (assuming you have one) kitchen. The place is designed authentically and we were all excited by the thought of eating with our hands. The first dish of salads was OK. The 2nd dish was a weird mixture of sweet dough, chicken and other goodies. It was very sweet to the degree that it was difficult to feel any of the other tastes. The chicken dish that followed was excellent but then the beef was over cooked and difficult to chew. The couscous was good, the fruits basket that came after it contained some rotten fruits. The final desert of Baklava which is one of my favorite dishes was too sweet and so was the accompanying tea. This is not the place for selective eaters as you hardly have any selection.

Yummy in my tummy

By Amy M |

I love Marrakesh. I'm usually here with a large group of 6-10 once a year. It's delish! This year, we had a vegetarian in our mix, and they easily accommodated her. If you are there on a Friday or Saturday, you can enjoy the entertainment of the belly dancer. The 7 courses are fantastic...pace yourself! And grab some extra pita at the beginning of the night! I have both had the house wine, which was reasonably prices and tasty...and we have BYOB'd. Make a reservation!

This is an experience as well as a meal!

By 60745Mary |

After walking down a little alley, we found this hidden gem. We climbed our way through a maze of small dining rooms, reaching our private room on the third floor. Sitting on cushions around a brass table set the atmosphere, and then there was the food. A seven course meal began to appear, each dish more interesting than the next. A variety of vegetable dips, a spicy chicken dish, lamb with honey sauce, phyllo chicken with sweet spices, sweet tea and finally a fruit platter and baklava. We were transported in all senses of the word! Great restaurant with a large group. We all loved the experience of Morocco!

Amazing experience.

This is the best restaurant for any occasion. A girlfriend and I stumbled on it and were a little intimidated at first but the server sat down and explained everything to us. Everything is delicious. Do not miss out on this.
