Worth the Wait!

By dm_travels |

Probably the best ramen I've ever had. At least recently and that I can remember anyway. The service was fast, friendly and very efficient. Our server answered any questions our party of four had. I had the Chicken Paitan, the broth was full of flavor, the chicken was tender and it ended being a lot of food for one person. My husband had a bowl of vegetarian ramen which he enjoyed and said was delicious. Our friends tried the Chicken Paitan DX which they shared a couple of bites of the chicken with us and it was fantastic! Marufuku only makes so much of this so it's easy to see why it sells out. The wait was long. They don't take reservations and ask that you put your name on the list and they will text you when your table is ready. Come prepared to wait if you decide try this on the weekend.

Rushin' Ramen.

By Brian L |

There was no crowd at all at about 16:00, that was by design. Got a seat in a non-crowded restaurant. Ordered the Hakata Tonkotsu, and was asked for a spice level. I said "medium" and actually found it to deliver quite a punch... and this is coming from a spice lover. Not complaining, just surprised. I imagine level 10 might actually be unenjoyable. The soup is very rich, and the Chashu is divine. The egg is 'soft hard boiled' which is to my liking. I'm not a big bean sprout fan and should have requested them off, but when in SF. The pickled ginger is nice as well. I scarfed and slurped it down. It was a little strange they seemed in a hurry to get rid of me with lots of empty tables. Dashing over to collect my bowl when I'd barely finished eating, and then giving me a check almost right after that, even though I asked for a few more minutes just to relax. I'd understand if they were busy, but there were many empty tables. It felt a little pushy. Otherwise five stars for the food.

Best Ramen

By JDBfromTexas |

Probably the best Ramen I’ve ever had. My wife had the vegetable Ramen and I had the Pork Ramen. Both were fantastic. Worth the hour wait and then some. Staff worked so hard to provide great service and get people in/out. A true 5 star food experience.

Good

By mortropolis |

Waited about 45 minutes to eat here but the food was pretty good. The bbq pork buns were delicious but expensive for what you get. The ramen was flavorful and I enjoyed it. A bit pricey but worth checking out.

Awesome Ramen, weird queueing system.

By WesleyCau |

Highly recommend this place if you're a fan of Ramen. Great flavour - up there with the best i've tasted. Definitely reserve a place in the queue on Yelp BEFORE you arrive. Otherwise you'll just have to reserve a place via the app anyway!

Definitely worth the search

By Rather_Nomadic |

Located on the edge of Japantown on the second floor of a shopping center. Very small location but it’s worth the wait. Their spicy ramen is one of my favorites. Very attentive service. Fair prices for good portions. Family friendly but tight seating. Large groups would be tough.

Best ramen I've ever had

By Georg R |

After seeing the restaurant featured incidentally in some tv ad, my wife and I decided to try it out. Reading the reviews about how popular it was, we decided to get there right at lunch opening time - glad we did it, since we got nearly the only seats left! Not a long wait, considering they were dealing with a freshly arrived full house, and very friendly and informative staff. Simple menu, so it's obvious they specialize in certain dishes - we ordered the basic ramen, Hakata Tonkotsu. The ramen - ah, the ramen... the broth was unbelievably tasty, the pork and other ingredients fresh and flavorful, and killer noodles with good texture. My wife and I kept looking at each other between bites, as if trying to make sure we weren't dreaming. Lots of people waiting for a table - for their sake, I hope they got in!

Authentic Hakata ramen

By Mark T |

There were a lot of restaurants in this Japan Town. I checked Yelp. It looked like Marufuku would be the best. Yelp was right. The ramen noodles were awesome. I really loved very authentic Hakata-style ramen!

Great Ramen

By Keir S |

Marufuku Ramen was recommended to me by a colleague. I’m a ramen fiend so was happy to hear of a place that came recommended. When arriving there was already a queue. I recommend downloading Yelp (not that big in the UK) so you can reserve a table or leave your phone number and you will get a text when your table is free. I recommend walking around the nearby shops, the wait shouldn’t be long. The Ramen was good although I wouldn’t recommend having it spicy because it takes away from the umami taste of the ramen. Staff were super friendly and prices were reasonable

Start lining up by 11:15am if you want ...

By J L |

1st seating❗️I ordered their ‘special’ chicken ramen. Only 15 made each day. I was not disappointed. Delicious broth, separately grilled chicken in a bed of bean sprouts. The chicken karrage is juicy and crispy. Will come back for the pork broth ramen👍

Great Japantown restaurant

By dave c |

A great way to top off a visit to Japantown. College dorm ramen was never like this. The Hakata Tonkotsu Deluxe was heaven for this Asian foodie.

Delicious Ramen in Japantown

By thejoyciecat |

Marufuku got excellent reviews on Yelp, so we decided to go while we were in Japantown. I have to say, it is one of the best ramen I have ever had. The price is reasonable and the serving size is generous. They have $4 rice bowls with pork belly, which for some people is a nice appetizer size, but I could have just had that for dinner. I also had the chicken ramen which was delicious. The menu is small, basically ramen and rice bowls, but the upside is that the food comes out really fast. Note - the only kind of soup/noodle they have here is ramen (you know, like the 25-cent noodles from the supermarket .... just heartier and fancier). Don't expect udon (the thick gummy noodles) or soba (the thin buckwheat noodle), it's just ramen. The restaurant is not very big, so get there early or be prepared to wait. Also, we were just the two of us and since it was crowded, we had to sit at a 2-top table, which was super cozy with the people on either side of us - we were listening to their conversations the entire meal. I wish we had gotten a 4-top table and more space, but oh well. It is right by Kinokuniya bookstore, one of the best bookstores there is, so stop in there after you eat!

Yummy Ramen

By marinpartyof4 |

Be prepared to wait in line before opening restaurant is opened for lunch or dinner. Probably a good 40-50 min wait for seating. Hakata style ramen with rich, creamy soup. Limited menu and limited seating.

Absolutely yes!

By MariiiiS |

Great ramen! The restaurant is located inside the Japan Center, you cannot book but as soon as you arrive you can get on the waiting list. We waited an hour to be seated but it was worth it. The ramen was very good, you can decide the level of spiciness and you can order extra noodles to add to the broth. The broth was very mild or the pork melted in your mouth. I absolutely recommend it! Ps. I recommend going there when the shops at the Japan Center are open, so as to pass the time while waiting.

Loved it

By John H |

Got here 15 mins after opening and the wait was 10 mins. Extremely friendly service. Recommend the hakata tonkotsu dx. It was excellent. The ika karaage as well. Gf got a seasonal item, 3 huge chashu slices on bean sprouts over a sizzling plate. She had it with a bowl of rice and loved it. Prices aren't cheap, but its Japantown.

Nice place to try.

By dagirl2 |

First time trying this place. The serving bowls are huge! We had several people in our group that were vegetarian and wanted the crepes next door instead. Please note they do not allow you to bring in other food. We had to wait until they finished eating the crepes so we could be seated. The ramen was okay. I would not say it’s the best I’ve had. It might be because I woke up with bad stomach issues that night after eating it. May had been the raw egg I’m not sure. My stomach isn’t usually sensitive. Or it could of just been something unrelated. The service was excellent! Our waitress was amazing! We didn’t finish our ramen. Wasn’t use to a lot of stew in ramen. But the broth was tasty. We mostly ate the ramen out of it and left a lot of the broth. It’s worth to try if you have never been. It’s a neat place.

Good ramen!

By srtraveler2015 |

Efficient waiting system, but a long wait. Ramen was good. Thinner noodles than typical. Perfectly cooked egg.

Good atmosphere, but MSG-laden menu

By stephen |

Good atmosphere and MSG-laden menu. I like to eat clean as much as possible and always ask about MSG at Asian dining places. I realize most will still be dishonest about it if you ask about chemical junk in their food head on. I had asked about MSG at Marufuku previously and I was told they didn’t use it. It wasn’t until a customer at a table next to ours was asked about allergies and stated she was allergic to MSG the truth came out. The waiter flat out told her most items on their menu had MSG even the mayo!!! WTF??? You don’t need MSG to make mayo!!! People go to Japanese restaurants expecting clean, healthy and natural food. At least that’s the top of mind for most who will favor a Japanese menu over some deep-fried or heavy-greasy fare. What a disaster. I had to hear it from the chef about the reasons for serving ingredients which are known to be harmful to health and not even being transparent about it. I mentioned that I did ask about MSG first time I went there and was effectively lied to. The reply was some mumbling about “everyone is doing that” and “these are small quantities”. Basically customers love it so nothing to see here. Well it turns out customers do care. This is a small place with tables pretty close to each other and so I could see people who overheard our conversation push off their plates and lay off their spoons. Nobody wants to be deceived or served toxic chemical crap Marufuku. You are making irresponsible sourcing choices for profit or ignorance. I brought clients to this joint. Not only am I not coming back, I’d like to forewarn as many health-conscious people as I can about this place, because they certainly aren’t likely to tell you.

great ramen!

By hlazer |

Superb ramen, excellent service, located in the heart of Japantown - a pleasant area to stroll & shop. Expect this fairly small restaurant to be crowded. Three of us arrived for an early-ish lunch, and we got the last available table.

Awesome ramen.

By William V |

Went for dinner with friends on a business trip. The ramen and shishito peppers were excellent. Be aware of how spicy the ramen is. My friends got the hell level and despite both liking spicy food were a little over their heads.

Worth the visit !

By Alice |

Was visiting San Francisco and had an amazing dinner here with friends. I got the plum juice and it was delicious and they had lots of fun flavors. The service was also super fast!!

Long Wait - But Worth It

By sam c |

Went to try and get dinner here at around 7:45 PM on a Wednesday - thought if we slid in late we would be able to get a table. Amazingly, there were 50 people on the waiting list in front of us - so we ended up waiting for about an hour. Once seated, you will find a very simple menu with some ramen options, some appetizers and drinks. Food came out extremely quickly (maybe only 5-10 minutes) and was outstanding - in fact the best ramen I've ever had in the States. Noodles were fresh, broth was rich and delicious, ingredients were of high quality. Prices were decent for San Francisco. The restaurant is located in the heart of Japantown within a mall with lots of other restaurants. As long as you're okay with waiting, this is a place worth going.

A Japanese restaurant in Japan town area of SF

By Milind P |

A busy restaurant in Japan town. Nice Ramen varieties. Good selection of sake. Reservation a must to avoid long wait

Nice ramen place

By Wander_Eyes |

We were on a road trip and wanted some ramen. We heard from friends that this place was newly opened and so we gave it a shot. We waited about 40 minutes which was perfect as I sneaked out next door to the Japanese grocery for some junk food before being seated. We had the medium spicy Tonkotsu ramen and another ramen which I forgot the name. The pork belly melted in my mouth and the broth was rich but too salty for my taste. Loved their soft boiled egg and noodles. Will come back if we are in the area again!

The only place to go for Ramen

By Alex94 |

Upon researching the best Ramen in San Francisco we stumbled across Marufuku and made our way to Japan town. We were pretty surprised that even early in the day the place was packed out and operating a wait list but we were seen pretty early. We ordered the Gyoza and Pork Ramen both were delicious. Make sure you give this place a visit!

Excellent place for Ramen

By gilur |

Superb !!! The best Ramen ever 😋 we recommend the deluxe dish if u are extra hungry. Great vibe and great service. Do yourself a favor and visit there, you won't regret 🙏

Awesome ramen!

By FutureMrsP2014 |

My brother lives in SF and raves about this place. I was in line with about 30 other people at 5:15, 15 mins before it opened. Great ramen, loved the hakata dx broth.

Excellent Ramen

By lilikoikitchen |

This was our second visit to Marufuku Ramen. We arrived early, around 10:30am and stopped by a few of the shops in the center. The line started to form around 11am (they open at 11:30). It was a weekday and I'm guessing that on weekends there are more people waiting in line earlier than that. I believe they take reservations for dinner but not for lunch. Service is friendly and quick. Once you order, your meal is delivered within 5 minutes. We ordered the chicken ramen and tonkatsu ramen. Both were very tasty, We ordered medium spice level which turned out to be quite mild, however they have chili pepper seasoning on the table if you want to make your broth spicier The noodles are cooked perfectly, and you'll find a perfectly cooked egg under them, in the broth. We will always include Marufuku Ramen in our annual visit to San Francisco.

Good ramen with a long line

By Akiko I |

We went to Marufuku on a Sunday at 7pm not expecting a line. We ended up waiting for 70 minutes for a table of 7. When you get there, make sure to sign in. You'll get a text message and can track your place in line. The people in line at the door have already gotten the text, so don't bother standing there until you do. The ramen was very good. They offer both chicken and pork broth and you can adjust the spice to your liking. I'd say it was worth the wait, but I'm not in a rush to go back.

Ramen Heaven

By soybean96 |

This place is the best ramen I have ever had and for sure one of the two places I trust! I had bad experience at some other ramen shops that I got sick so bad and it was sad because ramen is one of my favorite pick me up dishes. This place lofts my spirits up! The quality of food is so fantastic and every bite was delicious and savory. Everytime I come to San Francisco, this is the place that my partner and I need to go before we go back home. A great way to begin a fun day in San Francisco and the best way to end the last day trip to.

Wow!

By ClarenceFour |

Wow what an absolute delight!Probably the best ramen you will ever experience. These people know their food, they know flavours and the service was exceptional! Will be back and cannot recommend highly enough.

For True Ramen get the Deluxe Hakata

By annhW1123AF |

Very popular Ramenya because they are a serious shop. Great demand because they prepare a real ramen that satisfies your cravings. Several appetizers and choices of meats. Add bamboo shoots for crunch and texture. Use the yelp app to reserve a place. It works to get in anytime. Be sure to slurp, it is the right way the aerate the broth. Try to and you will not go the the other ramen shops. Decor is cool. Small but very good.

Amazing Ramen (Worth the Wait!)

By W.J. G |

After putting our names on the list, we waited 45 minutes (wandered Kinokuniya, etc) to get in, but Marufuku is worth it. Honest, fresh, delicious ramen. Totally worth the wait. The pork belly was amazing!

Love the Ramen

By Hardrocker8888 |

My cousin and I had lunch here. Upon arriving, we joined the waitlist. We were able to do some shopping while waiting. This place is always busy but worth the wait. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The ramen is delicious. Parking nearby—no restaurant validation.

Excellent Ramen!

By Aikymo |

I was there with my family and friends, the place is small and you have to make a line to get a table, food and service where great, one of the best ramens I ate ever!! I recommend to place yourself in line via yelp so you don’t have to wait so long.

First time!

By achavez9 |

I actually went to the Oakland location. This was my first time eating Ramen, and oh boy!! I could easily go to this Oakland location everyday if I could! Place was modern and cool. I sat at the bar so I got to see the ladies cooking and let me tell you, the ramen there it’s just delicious and they give you a good portion for what you pay! I’m definitely becoming a regular at this place! Highly recommended! Fair prices! Loved it!!!!

BEST LAMEN THAT YOU WILL EVER TRY !

The BEST Ramen that I’ve tried in my life ! I had the ramen with chicken, the Japanese fried chicken and the gyozas ! It was delicious and the service was incredible too ! I highly recommend

Huge lineup because it’s so good. Quick service. Amazing ramen! Highly recommend! Will not disappoint!

this is the ramen you're looking for

we flew 500 miles for this. totally worth it. we recommend going early and getting there right when they open, quick seating and service. always a must when visiting SF.

Good ramen. Apps ok

By K W |

Ramen and broth was very good. Went on Sunday night. It is UPSTAIRS. Get there early, like 45 min before open. We got there 1/2 early, couldn’t find on 1st floor and took 5-10 min to figure out it was upstairs. We did not make the 1st seating because of this. 4groups ahead of was the cut off for 1st seating. But it was not so bad, they have benches and stores to browse while you are waiting. We waited 45min. Food: ramen and broth was very good 9/10. The roast pork buns not so good 5/10, meat was weird. Fried octopus very good 10/10. Fried chicken was 8/10. Definitely worth the visit to Japan town. We went to supermarket across the street to buy Japanese snacks too!

Especially great for those who prefer not to eat pork

By AndyTheGameInventor |

This review is specifically for those of us who love Japanese food but don't eat pork or are vegetarians. Ramen has always been an issue for me because classic ramen is served in a pork broth with choshu. While most ramen restaurants in the U.S. have other options, these are usually a miso- or salt-based broth that comes up as an unsatisfying noodle soup. This is simply not the case here. I had the chicken ramen and the broth was rich and complex, very flavorful. One of our kids is vegetarian and described their ramen as the best they ever had. I'm sure their classic pork ramen is equally good. Although we did have to wait about 30 minutes for a table, once seated service was friendly and stunningly quick. Everything was delicious and waiters came by to make sure everything was as we wanted it. A very satisfying experience for all.

Long wait to get a table, fast service and excellent Ramen!

By Saibal S |

It can take up to two hours wait to get a table. After you are seated, the service is really fast. The ramen is hot and the broths are really tasty, worth the wait!

Yummm

By ahcNC |

Ok, it was amazing. Ate there twice during a three day stay. The paitan ramen was good, but the tonkatsu was nothing short of amazing! Go. Yesterday there will be a wait. It will be worth it.

Excelent Raman

By frimer |

Excellent food - the tenkotsu Raman with the chicken was fabulous and the appetizers were nicely done.. Service was spot on. It was a very busy place but it was after all a rainy Saturday in SF so that was to be expected. Get their early and get your name in than spend the hour in the shops - it's all good.

A great Ramen House

By Lorcan M |

we had lunch here, we arrived just before 12 on a Thursday, we had to sign up for seat but the restaurant has it down and we were seated in good time. This is a well run restaurant and from the moment you sit down you are taken care of. We had Hakata DX extra spicy {and it was} and spicy Tan Tan both were excellent. Great place to have a quick meal in Japantown

great ramen

By travellingmary33 |

We were walking around the mall and saw a line up- found out that the people were waiting for the restaurant to open. we put our name in and spent time shopping before our name came up. they were good to defer our placement until we returned to the site. My cousin was texting back and forth to them. the food was delicious. the broth in the pork ramen was out of this world- just like my ramen in Osaka! we enjoyed the chicken karrage as an appetizer. We had plenty to eat! the service is very fast as they want you in and out as quickly as possible- they seem to always have a waiting list.

Worth the wait!

By Christina S |

Following other reviewers’ suggestions, we used the Yelp waiting list to hold our place in line while browsing the marketplace. When we got inside, the ramen was delicious and absolutely worth the hype. Other tables near us tried many of the other apps and side dishes that also smelled incredible. I would make a point to stop back here next time I’m in town!

I feel like I was introduced to a new food group

By jmsmas |

What else can I say? This place is amazing! Like no ramen I've had anywhere else. Get there early. But even if you don't, it'll be worth the wait. Cant wait to go back.

First Ramen

By Ravirajtilve |

My first Ramen had to be 8600 miles away all the way from india , Goa to San Francisco. We went there through a reference given by a sweet friend who we met at the Apple Store. The moment we entered they greet you with Japanese welcome word. Our food was served within 2 minutes on our table with some Luke warm saaki. The food was delicious and sumptuous. Best Ramen I’ve had ever. Will be visiting soon again

Good But Long Line

By world_explorer |

The Ramon was good. I ordered the Chicken Paitan DX. Delicious but a bit to the salty side. I wouldn't purposely make the trip for this place as there is a long wait time (3 hours). Drop by if you have other business to do nearby. Put your name in the Yelp waiting list and you'll receive call when it is getting closer to you.

Worth the Wait?

By anonymous708934 |

Waited two hours before being seated. The gyoza and ramen were good, but not memorable. "Medium" was actually quite spicy. Dishes were good value, and the service, once one was seated, was prompt and friendly. The delay in seating can be mitigated by dining early, by booking online, and by availing oneself of the opportunity to browse the shops co-located in the Japan Center. These include a Kinokuniya bookstore. There is also a small bar with an entrance adjoining the restaurant, where one can kill time while waiting for a table.

Technology Tonkotsu

By David W |

A bit of a Yelp surprise with the on-line waiting list feature. Wow, 30 minutes wait but wait, I am 15 minutes by Uber away. Puurrrfecttt! Drop my name, call the car, zip in with 10 minutes to spare, name already on the iPad wait list, oohhh we be next! Now that is technology convenience. Love this feature. Hip but small. Cool modern take on zaishki tatami seating is the centerpiece of the room. Love the solid thick hardwood tables. Small window into a happening kitchen on one side. Simple menu, busy servers all working the space Hakata tonkotsu ramen is the only reason to be seated. A few very reasonable priced apps and sides. Beer and sake offerings available. Wish they had a Japanese draft but Asahi from Canada will have to do. Order and then... Less than 5 minutes later the apps start coming. Wow! Ok, pork kakuni is a dish up and the takoyaki is a premade deep fry but still... that’s fast. And the noodle dish is only 3 minutes behind. No wonder we cleared the waitlist quick. This kitchen rocks! Presentation is clean, kakuni portion was huge @ 6oz of cooked pork belly for $7!!! That and a bowl of rice would have been a meal in itself. Ramen broth was deep tasty, wish it was smoking hot but still more than warm enough. Thin chewy noodles with the soft boiled tamago lurking underneath like a baby chicken submarine! Food is on point! Pay the check as the line is still 15 parties deep and we out of there in 30 minutes flat. This place has their act together. No wonder they are #1. Go and put your name on the waitlist NOW!

Excellent ramen

By Steve M |

This was the favorite restaurant of all three in our party from our week-long San Francisco trip. The food here was excellent and plentiful. We would definitely eat here again! There is a crazy- long line but it was worth it.

Great lunch

By Frank L |

first time visiting this restaurant and it was a great experience. Food was wonderful, good service and good value. Will definitely visit again on my next trip to CA

The best pork belly I've ever had!

By foodbeast111 |

Was in the mood for some ramen and found this place in Japan town. Ordered the Tonkatsu DX and damn damn damn it was good. Idk what they did to that pork belly but it was cooked to perfection. The broth was incredible, the corn was very nice and the egg was cooked perfectly. The water with the meal with cucumber, lemon and mint was a nice touch. Plan on dropping a 20 on this meal but it's money well spent.

Bustling ramen joint

By ChrisB |

Ramen focused restaurant that appears to be very popular. Both ramen dishes we had were among the best we’ve had. Note of disclosure though. While I frequent my share of restaurants, I don’t consider my self an expert on this cuisine

Ramen customized by you ;)

By Angela3950 |

As someone who’s eaten in Japantown for 30+ years, I’ve hit most of the restaurants on both sides of the street. Marufuku opened in 2017 but I still hadn’t been. Having forgotten to make a reservation earlier in the day, I ADDED OUR GROUP TO THE WAITLIST VIA YELP, and we were seated within 20 min, bypassing a huge crowd of people. Fantastic method, with texts to notify you, as you do other things in the mall. Now on to the food & service. The place is really small but the seating is almost family style-close tables and bench seating. It works though. The staff are FANTASTIC-immediate and genuine smiles, no stuck up servers here. Fast ordering (the menu is simple, your add-ons make it individualized) and relatively quick service. We got two appetizers-Japanese steamed buns and chicken karaage. Both delicious. Enough for three people to share. We all got the Hakata Tonkotsu (pork broth with ramen, soft boiled egg and vegetables) which we ordered to preference of spiciness, additions like green onions, etc. The broth was not clear but slightly full bodied-is there milk in there? SO very flavorful, it was truly excellent. The surroundings are warm and vibrant, efficient & lovely staff and fresh, soul satisfying food. Reasonably priced, as well. Not one complaint. Tip-Remember, go straight to Yelp to get on the list and avoid being stuck outside, watching the rest of us eat ;)

Worth the wait

By Tantalum |

The best ramen I have ever had. Went on a Tuesday and was quoted a 90 minute wait for a table. Usually I would go somewhere else, but we decided to stay and wait it out. This proved to be a great decision as the meal was excellent. The ramen is excellent, absolutely hands down the best I have ever had. We went as a party of three, and each ordered a different dish. No one was disappointed. So, if you go, be prepared for a wait, as the restaurant is very small, but the service is solid, and the food exceptional.

Best Ramen in Japantown

By Westcoastboy181 |

Finally, a ramen place that rivals the best of the SF Peninsula and South Bay. Very simple menu: pork or chicken based ramen. The Hakata-style Tonkutsu ramen is to die for with a flavorful but not overly fatty broth and thin Hakata-style noodles. We both got the deluxe version of this (i.e. more toppings like corn, more chashu). It is a busy and popular place with a line forming before the place opened for Saturday lunch.

Get the Tonkatsu

By Patrick L |

We has the mega tonkatsu. It was awesome. Get the upsized one with the extra pork. Trust me! Also sign in on yelp 1-2 hours in advance.

Amazing Broth

By CJ707 |

The broth at Marufuku Ramen is what sets them apart from other ramen shops. They spend 20 hours making it and you can tell the difference with your first slurp. It's a great spot but be ready for a wait. The word is out and the line is long!

Get Here Right When It Opens

By arrrbooey |

There was a line outside the door during the last day of the Japanese spring festival (sunday) about a half hour before it opened. Luckily, the restaurant is surprisingly large and we were able to be seated in the first round. The waitresses took orders very quickly and because it was a busy weekend, there were only a set menu of ramen and their special soy sauce chicken dish (15 orders). We ordered two tonkatsu DX ramen after reading through yelp that they were the most flavorful over the chicken ramen. However, when we saw other tables receive their soy sauce chicken dish on a hot plate over bean sprouts, our mouths were watering. Regret not trying that dish out! When you order, you have an option to adjust the spiciness. We both got mild and it was sufficiently seasoned. The noodles were just great, definitely different from the typical noodles I'm used to coming from out of town. The broth wasn't too salty and was very tasty probably due to the fats :) Service was quick and easy, since this ramen place might be busy for awhile, the waitress would come by mid meal to give the check so right when you're done eating you can head out! You can be in and out in 30-45 minutes so if you wanted to wait for the second round of seating, the wait won't be terrible. Highly recommend trying this out if you wanted to add to a list of ramen places to eat in SF.

Meets expectations, worth the wait

By therockandsister |

Stopped in after checking in at the hotel down the street and was surprised there was a wait in the early afternoon post-lunch hour, but I was solo and it was just 5 minutes and I was not disappointed. Tonkatsu Ramen, creamy and flavorful. So delicious. Toppings are all high quality, service quick and friendly. Worth going out of your way and worth waiting.

One of the best ramens

By m00lah |

We decided to take a trip to Japan Town via Uber. We thought we were early for dinner at 530pm but there was already a long queue outside Marufuku Ramen (across Books Kinokuniya in Japan Center East Mall). Their menu is limited - Pork Tonkotsu or Chicken Paitan ramen, some side orders and drinks. We ordered 2 Pork Tonkotsu (USD 13) non-spicy and 2 mildly spicy Pork Tonkotsu DX (USD 17), this comes with additional ingredients of braised pork belly, corn and nori seaweed. We're not fans of chicken breasts which they use in the Chicken Paitan but I do understand Americans seem to prefer chicken breasts. The soup broth was rich and milky while the ramen were just the right texture! What a brilliant, comforting meal! Good value too!

Unbelieveably good!

By sifuerst |

This is the place for the best ramen I have ever had. Got the Hakata Delux and was incredibly happy with the spicy version. Large portions of pork belly and a perfect runny egg. Stand in line, you won't regret it.

1st Ramen experience

By Andrew B |

Took my two boys to Japantown mall because of their fascination with Japanese culture and animae. They talked me into trying Ramen and I am glad that they did. The ramen here was absolutely delicious. Japantown was very nice I thoroughly enjoyed it.

We went two days in a row

My friend and I were in town visiting and were told by her brother that we couldn't leave San Francisco without going here. Well, let me tell you how right he was about Marufuku! It was so good we went back the next day and ordered the exact same thing. My best advice to you is to be prepared to wait. The first day we went we waited for two hours before being seated. The second day we went before they opened for dinner and still had to wait but only about 20-25 minutes. We both had the Chicken Paitan and the broth is so flavorful! The staff is nice and everyone pretty much works together to ensure that you're ok. Don't go to San Francisco without trying this place!

Maybe a bit cheesy to headline a review like this but honestly I haven’t yet had any better Ramen in the whole world, including Japan! Amazing broth, crazy good meat and incredibly tasty.

Ramen.

By Jota2015Ce |

Their ramen is spectacular. Tonkotsu broth with a milky thickness, very fine noodles, delicious soft-boiled egg... They serve quickly. The biggest drawback is that there is usually a queue (you have to join the waiting list at the entrance or make a reservation) and that they bring the bill as soon as you finish eating.

Fantastic Japanese food

By Mrs.Trumpfire |

One of my favorite japanese places in SF. Went with my family and the ramen, specials, and rice bowls were really good

Delicious Ramen

By Yosi O |

Absolutely delicious. Completely satisfying flavors, textures, spice, and aftertaste. The spiced boiled eggs are a true delicacy.

local favourite

By ted_gorden |

This small Japanese ramen shop is in modern Japanese style. It has around 20 small tables tightly together. People lined up 1 hour before it opened. The noodle soup base was very good and rich in taste. The pork on the noodle was also tender. There were also sesame and pickles which accented the taste. You can choose the spicy levels and add extra ingredients to the noodle at a cost. Selection of food is limited.

Awesome food and great service

Awesome food and friendly service. Will come back! Here are more characters because they force you to write more than you like

Nice experience

By deux4six |

Located in the Japan Center, a shopping center exclusively dedicated to Japanese products in the somewhat off-center neighborhood of Japan Town, this property mainly offers a beautiful list of delicious ramen in a typical Mood that transports you to Tokyo. Service is smiling and efficient and prices frankly indecent ( 61 euros for two for two brings a beer and a lemonade). Sometimes you have to queue to get there but it's a great experience. For fans of Japanese gastronomy, it should be noted that the center has several other restaurants just as well evaluated locally.

Divinely flavorful ramen

By dustythoughts |

This heavenly ramen place is tucked away on the second floor of a mall, and we were grateful for the recommendation that brought us here, because we never would have known of it otherwise. It was a busy place, but we were seated promptly and presented with menus to peruse. They... mostly have ramen, with a few sides to round it out, but you should really focus on the ramen. We shared the chicken ramen and the veggie ramen, and both were equally divine. The orange soda in the light-up pouch was super cool and tasted like Fanta. The food came out incredibly quickly (within maybe 5 minutes of ordering) and was inexcusably good. The staff were very friendly and professional, which added to the great experience. The noodles had a wonderful flavor to them.

First time for Ramen

By Edwelsh |

While visiting a friend in San Francisco, he asked if we ever had Ramen. My answer, no but we would love to. So he took us to the best and it was a wonderful experience. The 2 guys had the Kakata Tonkitso DX (less seaweed) which is served with a nice pork broth and 2 different porks. My wife had the Chicken version with chicken broth. It was also very good. The challenge was actually eating with chopsticks. Our friend finally had enough and got us a couple of forks. Now, we have to find quality Ramen in Ohio.

Order extra noodles

By Redshirts889 |

When you order the ramen, add the extra noodle at the same time, you can thank me later! We got the Tonkotsu ramen with medium spicy, and the salt ramen plain. I got to say the classic salt flavor was better than Tonkostu. The noodle was thinner than we are used to but it was so firm and bouncy in a good way. Thank god we got the extra noodle or the soups would have been so lonely after we slurp the original noodles down in 2 minutes. Don’t forget to try the chicken karaage, they are crispy without the grease.

Good, But Not Exceptional

By amp1231 |

Got here before they opened. Waited around 15-20 minutes and got seated immediately as we were close to the front of the line. Got the Chicken Paitan DX. Note that even though it says "limited 15 servings a day" that it is the same ramen as the one above it. Only difference is that it comes with a chicken leg which was good, but nothing special. Ramen was good overall. As others have mentioned, the noodles were a bit thin which made them not as chewy as I personally like them. Broth was good as well. I'd go back and try the tonkotsu, but I don't think it's worth waiting in line for an extended period. It's clearly a place that capitalizes on it's name.

We went away full and happy

By PANC J |

We had lunch here in late May. I ordered Hakata Tonkotsu DX that had slices of pork belly in a melange of vegetables, soft boiled egg and rich broth. There was a larger piece of pork as well, that I wasn't sure how to eat, but just dug into it with my spoon. Oh goodness was I glad I did. I've had pork belly served many way, some lousy, most pretty good, but this was by far the best I've ever tasted. It was meaty, fatty, and with a roasted flavor hard to describe, but delicious to eat. My wife got the Chicken Paitan, which was also good, but not "great". The broth was not quite as flavorful, but the chicken itself was terrific. I usually expect boiled chicken breast to be dry and chewy, but this was perfectly done, melt-in-your-mouth.

Loved it!!

By Langas12 |

Loved our visit to Marufuku and would highly recommend to check this place out, especially if you like Ramen! Can either walk in to check in or can check in via the YELP app, which is what we did which saves some wait time! The wait time was over an hour for us, but once seated, service was really fast and efficient! The food was delicious, and would definitely return!

Excellent tonkosu!

By Ola |

You need to be patient and wait for your turn - but it worths it! I recommend getting early to Japan Town and adding yourself to the waitlist. Add your phone number and go for shopping. On the ground floor, there is an amazing gift shop (check out the stickers) and the book store on the 1st floor with everything you want (ramen cookbook anyone?). Speaking of ramen - Hakata tonkatsu dx is so freaking good and chashu melts in your mouth! If you like a little bit of spicy do NOT take "medium spicy". Mild has a pinch of chili inside so it's enough for most of the people.

Best ramen soup!

By Danai06 |

I had the best ramen soup! It's was very flavorful. The pork was amazing! I can't wait to go back. Service was also quick! Friendly staff!

Fantastic meals!

Excellent karaage rice bowl. We will return again for the Tonkatsu DX ramen . It was so worth the 100 minute wait. You just put your name on the list, walk around Japan town, then they text you when ready.

Great find in Japantown

By Angel |

Stumbled across this restaurant while walking through Japantown. There was a large queue of people waiting even before the restaurant opened for lunch so we thought it must be good. Put our names down on the waiting list and after about 20 minutes were shown to a table. Service is nice and quick. Never had ramen before, but the food here was really nice. Also catered for my vegetarian wife, her veggie ramen looked amazing too. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Top Notch Ramen & Experience. Well Worth the Wait!

By Ron B |

There's a reason that there's a line to get into this place. IT. IS. AMAZING. They truly do their best to make the waiting experience as easy on you as possible. They'll even call you when your table is ready so that you can browse the shops in the mall without having to wait right outside the restaurant. The food and experience is second to none. Very prompt service. We had drinks and appetizers in under 5 minutes. The chicken karrage is absolutely delicious. Boneless thigh meat fried in a really light batter. It paired nicely with the Dassai Sake! I ordered the Hakata DX with an extra side of noodles and nori. The noodles had the perfect bite, the braised pork belly was extremely tender, and the seasoned boiled egg was perfectly cooked. As amazing as all of that was, the broth in this ramen was on a level of its own. Reviews really can't reflect the experience of Marufuku Ramen. Definitely, give it a shot. You won't be disappointed!

Go-to Ramen Spot

Took my niece here to try ramen for her very first time and she loved it. I’ve had ramen in the city before and was disappointed, but this place was pretty good.

My New Favorite Ramen Place

By Joe A |

Tried this small ramen shop one Wednesday afternoon and there was a line forming right after I got in. The menu is quite limited but what they do they do it with passion, my ramen broth is complex and smooth. It is a little pricey for ramen but the quality of the ingredients is second to none. Looking forward to my next visit soon.

AMAZING RAMEN!

By Matchoo2004 |

This was hands down the best ramen I have ever tasted. Nothing even comes close to this. The broth was porky and gelatinous, the noodles had the perfect firmness, and the egg was delicious. I can't wait to try this again next time we are in the city. Get there early, or you can log on with your Yelp account to reserve a spot on the wait list. WORTH THE WAIT!!
