There are a lot of good things to eat at Masa, but its foremost attraction is its deep dish Chicago style pizza, probably the best in LA. Be patient, it takes a while to bake, but it's worth the wait.

The have great deep dish pizza. Also they do not skimp on the toppings yikes you get a lot of anything you add. Well worth the wait.

We were visiting our son in Los Angeles and he said we had to try this place. Now we have not had deep dish pizza in decades so we decided to go on a Sunday evening. Well be prepared to wait and not only for a table but for your pizza. It takes 45 minutes at least from the time you order until your pizza is ready. They are big and filing. We are only 3 people and we had left overs. Even so we did order the bread putting for dessert and it was delicious. My son said it was the best dessert he's ever had. I would have given it 5 stars if we didn't have to wait so long and the glasses of wine weren't so tiny, but I guess next time we will plan it better.

Down home pizza and pasta place. Festive. Maybe a little loud. We love this place. We pretty much always get pizza and beer and share a salad. We get the vegan cheese with pepperoni and onions. Delicious!

Awesome friendly neighborhood vibe at Masa. As Chicago native, was a bit skeptical if they could deliver authentic Chicago style pizza -- they do! The crust was excellent. We got the deep dish spinach with sundried tomatoes and it was a great choice. Was with a friend and the small was more Han enough with leftovers. Delicious salad too. Enjoyed our visit. Would come back.

I was visiting LA with my niece and her children. We needed a place that would appeal to multiple generations and we found it!! The food was great! We started with artichoke spinach dip---it really had artichokes and spinach, not just some pureed green stuff! Quite tasty... We also had garlic bread and mozarella sticks which the kids enjoyed. We were all blown away by how good the pizza was! Fresh ingredients and an awesome crust! I hope to return here on my next trip to LA! I should alos say that they had a nice selection of inexpensive house wines.

I tried Masa of Echo Park and had a great time. The restaurant had a cozy feel and the deep dish pizza was delicious. The service was great. The only downside was the wait for food during busy times and limited seating. I recommend it for a tasty pizza, but suggest improving wait times and adding more seating.

I really love Masa! I took my Dad and my Husband there for dinner. My Dad is visiting from the UK and I bigged the pizza here up (a. because it's great, and b. because they have a separate totally vegan menu and my husband is allergic to dairy) and we travelled across for dinner on a Friday. It was, of course, busy and there was a wait but they handled this really well! Our server was also great, very attentive. Myself and my Dad ordered the Quintero pizza (Buffalo chicken and blue cheese)... I know buffalo sauce is spicy, and I wasn't expecting anything too tame but this was pretty intense! I really think they need to warn people when they are ordering this pizza. I could only eat half and my mouth was completely burning and I couldn't even taste the other flavours anymore. (I eat a lot of spicy foods, curries, chillis etc) I feel bad as well because I love this place and it was way too spicy for my Dad too so he didn't get to experience how great it is... My husband really enjoyed his vegan pizza though and we had great starters! I just think they should warn people when they order the Quintero pizza! If I was told it was THAT spicy I would have ordered something else. We've taken the leftovers home but I'm not too sure if we'll be eating them this time.

Their pizzas are a must try. A large pizza fills 5-7 hungry bodies. I always leave full and satisfied. Sometimes when you leave a restaurant you feel like you spent a lot, in this restaurant I never felt that way. I've gone like ten times already and love it! (Amazing fries and the Cuban roll is so tasty!)

I can't really add to the other reviews of the incredible deep dish pizza here but I thought I'd adda few tips: If there's a line when you arrive order your pizza then. They'll time it to your table being ready. This worked for us as the pizza takes about 40 minutes to make/bake. I would also highly recommend crossing the street while you wait and have a beer or glass of wine at the El Prado. The tie passes so much faster here. The restaurant will text you when your table is ready. Service is efficient and the restaurant is CROWDED on the weekend so plan accordingly.

From time to time, we get into the Echo Park area but have always been stuck eating in the same coffee shop. Tonight we decided to take a chance on something different, and boy, are we glad we did. While waiting for our deep-dish pizza (which we were told is their specialty), we split a fantastic Caesar salad. The single serving was more than enough for the two of us (and we are hearty eaters), but what stood out wasn't the size. The salad was elegant, yet full of great surprises: fabulous cheese, strips of bacon, a crouton-like wedge of garlicky toast that was sooo good. The salad was accompanied by a warm loaf of just-baked bread that, for all it's simplicity, was as good as anything I've had in a while. During the salad time, we were treated to the sights of Sunset Boulevard in the evening, courtesy of our window table (we'd do this part again too)! But when the pizza finally arrived (it takes forty-five minutes to bake), the knocking off of our socks was completed. Seriously, it's unfair to compare a Masa pizza to anything you've ever called by the same name. I've been eating pizza for a lifetime now, and I've never tasted anything more delicious. We ordered the "Standard," and I assure you it will be my pizza standard from here on out. Lindsey, our waitress, provided first-rate service too, so yeah... we can't wait to go back!

This place is always busy but has some really great food. Staff is great and friendly. Deep dish pizza has lots of flavor.

This was our first visit to Echo Park, and while we were looking for a lunch spot, we happened upon Masa and decided to give it a try. We were so glad we did. The food was delicious, and the service was very friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend it. We hope to go back again when we have a little more time to try the deep dish pizza. It was also a good value for the L.A. area.

Busy café with bakery. The pizza was incredible and true Chicago style. Had sweet sasuage two small pies fed three with take out. Cannolli desert outstanding.

Man, oh, man! Deep dish pizza in LA!?! Amazing. I love how the cheese is stringy just how cheese on pizza should be. I also tried the bread pudding and man, oh, man the portion is huge! It has a little bit of caramel, chocolate, with warm mushiness. The taste is amazing, I have no complaints here on service. The portions here are HUGE. By HUGE i mean my bf and I ordered a small and we had two slices and there were still slices left over. I think next time we'll order the large and have more for 2 meals. Since it takes a while for your food to arrive they do ore-orders for you before you arrive.

Great deep dish pizza, good value for the amount of food you get! Good atmosphere! First time in the area, would recommend

Best deep dish west of the Mississippi. They do not take reservations so the wait is usually 45 minutes. It is very popular. If you order at the bar when she puts you on the wait list your pizza will be timed to come out shortly after you are seated.

My family took a friend after church to celebrate her birthday. We'd heard about the deep dish pizza and were disappointed to learn when we arrived that it was no longer available due to the hour, 9pm. But we liked the quaint ambiance and decided to make the best of it. Our initial waiter was pleasant. My partner noted early on that he'd like a glass of Moscato with dessert, and that it was our friend's birthday, so we hoped for a dessert with a candle if possible; the waiter nodded. When the food came, it was fine. Nothing special but certainly fine. Then our waiter announced that he had to leave but we'd be in good hands. That's when things seemed to shift. We were finishing dinner, and a young lady we later learned to be the manager approached us to ask if we wanted anything else. We noted it was our friend's birthday and looked forward to dessert. My partner also referenced his Moscato again, and the manager responded quickly that she thought last call had already been announced. We had not heard any last call, of course. At this point I jumped in, because I sensed the whole tone towards our group, which was Latino, other than myself, had changed and become less pleasant. I noted that no one had told us anything about a last call and that my partner had already told our previous waiter that he'd like a Moscato with dessert. I'd already had a house red wine at this point, without incident. But at that point, with a look of agitation, the manager asked my partner, who is 33 and has a prominent bald spot, for ID. He obliged. Then someone else came and started removing our dishes. I was asked if I was finished. My partner was not asked, and his dish was removed, even though he had not finished. At that point I got up and asked to speak to a manager. I learned it was that same young lady, and I explained my concerns for how my party had been treated, particularly when we were trying to celebrate our friend's birthday. From here, the conversation deteriorated quickly, as the responses were mostly defensive and unhelpful. I asked why my partner, who is Latino, was carded but I, being white, was not. Her response made no real sense. Then I asked why there was a reference made to a non-existent "last call." At this point, the owner jumped in became quite aggressive, asserting his ownership and insisting his business is not racist, especially since he pointed to the one light-skinned African American who worked there, as complete and absolute proof that he is not racist. Once or twice we heard a quick apology, even from the African American waiter, though he'd done nothing wrong. Never did we hear any offer to try to make up for all the unpleasantness, not even dessert on the house for our birthday celebrant. We left soon thereafter, bypassing dessert. We won't return. It seems the level of service here depends on the level of the melanin in one's skin. For a diverse LA neighborhood like Echo Park, it such a shame to have to experience this.

my spouse ordered the salad and I ordered a 12 inch deep dish pizza, There was enough food for 4 person wow what a deal

this place is famous for deep dish pizza and bread pudding- although we didn’t have either, both looked amazing . Cute inside with eclectic chairs and tablecloths. We did enjoy a manchego salad, vegan wrap and an Italian steak sandwich. Service was ok, we had to ask other staff for refills.

This italian centric restaurant is very popular and is known, primarily, for its Chicago style deep dish pizza. However eating this pizza comes with a twist. Once you place your deep dish order it takes approximately 45 minutes for them to make it! You should also know that their regular pizza pies are tasty as well and you can make your own pizza or deep dish from a long list of fresh ingredients, vegetables and meats. They also serve alcohol (wife had the Moscato and she loved it!). Service was personable and excellent. This place is well worth the trip.

awesome bread pudding (and bread). great service

the pizza is meh, ours took an almost 1.5 hour wait for a blob of melted cheese. the topping slid right off the crust. it was not really deep dish either, it came out on a flat pie tin so im wondering how they ever got reputation as a depp dish pie chop ? their kitchen is small i believe the long wait results from a small over to prep food... not overcooking it. very please that Ginos east has come to the valley and other blaces like Blackbird pizza have sprung up to go to . this was a one and done.

Came here a couple years ago and we just had to come back for the deep dish pizza. The staff was friendly and the food was so good. The house salad was fresh and filling with the bread while we waited. The pizza takes an eternity while you wait, but you can always call ahead! It is definately worth it!

In the middle of echo heart, this place serves the most authentic Chicago style pie in LA county. Hands down

So we stopped by this place because we heard about the Chicago style pizza and thought it was good but nothing to write home about. Very chunky marinara sauce wasnt exactly my favorite. Sausage was just cooked and layed on top of the pizza. Not the worst place I've eaten but I wont go back.

I didn't try the famous deep dish pizza, but I did have the regular pizza (which was ok) and a really good penne pasta/mushroom dish. The atmosphere was nice, dim lighting, buzzing crowd, friendly servers. Nice for a date or a friends dinner.

This restaurant offers excellent thick-crust pizza. One slice is effectively a meal. There is a vegan pizza option. The salads are very good. Service is excellent.

If you've lived in Chicago, as I did; then you should know that Masa of Echo Park has a GREAT deep dish pizza. But, I do want to bring your attention to a hidden gem in their menu, hence the title of my review: Warm Chocolate Almond Croissant Bread Pudding! As its name aptly describes, the bread pudding is made of chocolate almond croissant. It is served warm with caramel slathered on top! A generous slice can be shared, by why? I remember doing a late night run to Masa (they close at 11 pm) to get a wedge of the pudding to go. If you eat at Masa, don't forget to try the bread pudding. It is well worth the extra indulgence!

We are from Illinois, so we are well-acquainted with Chicago style pizza. Having had what other restaurants deemed "Chicago-style pizza" (but was decidedly not!), we knew the rest of the world's standards might not live up to ours. We were pleasantly surprised by the great pizza at Masa. It was one of the highlights of our trip as we are travelers who can easily plan a trip around food. The building was on the smallish side, but we beat the dinner rush and did not have to wait for a table. We did not even wait long for our pie to bake. The service was fast, friendly, and we can't wait to go back one day.

The deep dish pizzas were pretty great. My only criticism of those is that they were utterly drenched in tomatoes - too many for my taste. I was a bit unhappy that, evidently being deep dish newbies, we weren’t better advised. We ordered one medium pizza to start with and the waitress said ok thanks and then we said we want to order a small one as well. There were three of us. We now know this is obviously too much food. One medium would have been more than enough. When I asked the waitress whether she thinks one medium is enough she said no it’s ok order another one, rather than advising us appropriately to the best of her knowledge. For example, judging from the four tables around us, most people manage between 1 and 3 slices. We could then take that into account when making our decision. Maybe she didn’t want to influence us or something but I’m always grateful in situations like that when the waiting staff do advise me. She also had a bit of a couldn’t care less attitude in her service.

We split a large 1/2 cheese, 1/2 traditional pizza and 2 salads between the 4 of us and had plenty to take home. The cheese is to die for and the crust is soft and very flavorful. I don't think I saw anyone leaving their "crust" and just eating the main part of the pizza. The two things you need to be very aware of - it is VERY noisy, loud, and high energy. If you're looking for a laid back place, save this for another night. Second, if you're in a hurry or don't like waiting for long to get your order, you also want to skip this. It takes 45 min for the pizza but well worth the wait if that's what you're hungry for.

This is a very fun, eclectic space that specializes in deep dish pizza - although there is a very full menu in addition to the deep dish. Very nice, well priced house wine as well. We really enjoyed our visit!!

They serve a very high quality deep dish pizza here. I ordered it without any toppings to understand the original taste. The bread, tomato souce and cheese were all delicious and fresh. Highly recommended!

My family and I have eaten at every pizza joint in LA that we can find which features Chicago style deep dish pizza and feel that Masa of Echo Park is hands down the best deep dish pizza in Los Angeles. And yes we've eaten at the Hollywood Way pizzeria a number of times for comparison. Masa serves much better pizza in a venue that is many times better. While the menu has many other options we've only eaten the deep dish pizza for reference. Be forewarned though: They don't make pizza's in advance and you'll routinely wait 30-45 minutes for your pizza. Call ahead if you're in a hurry.

Really delicious pizza pie but that are huge so be warned! Excellent greeting. There was a wait so we were advised to grab a drink and order the deep dish immediately as it would take 45 minutes. We were well looked after and the food was great. Highly recommended!

Expect a wait but it will be worth it! We went one evening while in LA and waited for about 1 1/2 hours but food was amazing. There is a bar with a nice but small seating area. In all fairness we arrived later in the evening so the wait might be shorter earlier in the early evening. But ...the food though was AMAZING! We did not try the pizza but we did see other tables that ordered it and they looked scrumptious. Try the mussels with fresh French bread , you won’t be disappointed. Some of the best mussels ever had. My husband and I shared an entree called Masa Penne with Grilled Rosemary Chicken. It was delicious. Other Entrees ordered included Masa Gnocchi and Lasagna and all were enjoyed. Definitely put this restaurant on your list you won’t have regrets.

Although my family and I have eaten at Masa many times we had never eaten there with a Vegan friend visiting us from Atlanta. We had her check out the menu in advance and she said it looked promising so off we went. Their regular deep dish was its usual great self and our friend loved the Vegan pizza. Not for me but who cares! Insiders tip: Order your pizza when you arrive if there's a wait as it takes about 40 minutes to cook. It will be ready when you sit down. There's also a bar across the street (El Prado) where you can enjoy a glass of wine or beer while waiting. The restaurant will text you when your table is ready.

Let me start by saying that I am not a fan of Hipsters, but I have to admit, they know how to eat. When I first heard of Masa, I assumed, based on location, that it must be another Mexican restaurant. Boy, was I wrong. Masa refers to the dough they use to make delicious pizza. When I first walked into Masa, I was not sure I fit in with the crowd... The staff are all young, beautiful and dressed in their latest thrift store finds. I was asked for my cell phone number (it's optional) to call when my table was ready. Being too old for this place and not hip, I was not sure of the type of service I would receive, but I was pleasantly surprised by how charming, attentive and professional everyone was. The food is great. They are known for their deep dish pizza, which takes 40 minutes to prepare so call ahead if possible to place your order. I prefer thin crust and they had many to choose from and I appreciated the tip of the hat to the neighborhood as the pizzas were named after streets in Echo Park. Pair the pizza with one of their fresh salads and you have a meal that will be full of flavor, but not leave you overly stuffed. The menu includes pastas, paninis and a great meatloaf wrapped in bacon. They also have a small, but thoughtful wine list. Make sure you leave room for dessert as they have the BEST bread pudding that I have had in years. I normally don't have bread pudding in restaurants because it is usually too heavy or dry or over-soaked in custard, but Masa makes their own light and flaky chocolate croissants and use them in the bread pudding. They give you a very generous slice so it is enough to share and once you taste it you will think about it for days after. Heaven on a plate! That, along with a nice cappuccino is a great ending to a wonderful meal.

After taking the grandkids and friends to the swan boats of Echo Park, the kids were hungry and we stopped by here. The food was scrumptious and all local and natural. A 6-year-old declared their fresh apple juice as the best in the world.

Lets start with the wait. There is one and it will be long but if you are ordering one of their deep dish pizza's you can place the order when you check in and they will start it for you as it takes 45 minutes to prepare. We had an extra long wait over the quoted time but the hostess was very nice and comped our party a drink to make it more manageable. Once we were seated the service was terrific. Our deep dish pizza arrived shortly after we sat down and our other food followed shortly. Everyone was very happy with food and the place has a lovely but loud atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable and we had pizza to take home.

If you are one of the many lucky patrons who have stepped into this amazing restaurant, then you will be a fan for life. The food is by far the best in Los Angeles with selections ranging from salads, Meat Loaf and a wide variety of delicious, fresh ingredients. The highlight for any patron will be the pizza. The Deep Dish Chicago Pizza is as authentic as it gets and surpasses anything Chicago has to offer! My favorites are the Bistro Pizzas which are a thin, crispy crust filled with a variety of the tastiest options. Try the "Elysian Park," which has Italian Beef, Proscuitto and Giardiniera which is some of the spiciest peppers you will find anywhere! You can also build your own pizzas there but why would you want to when the chefs (artist) have already created the best for you? In addition to the amazing food, the service is fantastic! We've been there so much we've been served by everyone including the owners and it is always exceptional. The service is quick and attentive followed by a friendly and genuine smile. Everybody, especially, the diners are happy to be there! The interior is very "homey" with classic furniture and an eclectic collection of decor. An amazing selection of black and white photos from the early 1900's adds to the nostalgic feel Masa offers, in addition to the Black and White movies playing in the background. I can not say enough about how good this restaurant is. It is rare in this day and age of fast foods, plastic chairs and conveyor belt service, that a gem like Masa of Echo Park is found. My wife, my friends and I are all very passionate about this restaurant and we hope that we have conveyed that to all that appreciate good food!

This place is a little oasis in a hit-or-miss neighborhood. Very good vibe, super friendly and attentive staff. The food was made with very fresh ingredients and was good if not impressive. And their Masa's Honey Blonde Ale on draft (made by Firestone Brewery just for them) was fresh, well-crafted, and light.

Went to sample their pizza ,totally different from any other pizza. Deep base could only manage one piece, very filling. Had one medium pizza between 3 people, sufficient. Enjoyed the pizza, nice atmosphere, wine by the carafe amazing value.

World's best pizza.

There is a great pizza war waging in the United States with two opposing forces…the lovers of Chicago style deep dish pizza, and New York style thin crust (though a Lyft driver I had recently assured me that New York style pizza is really from Connecticut..or was at least perfected there.) The New Yorkians will, without hesitation, tell you that Chicago style pizza is “not pizza.” The Chicagonians pretty much don’t care, as long as they can keep eating their, unique, butter crust, deep dish phenomenons. In my world, this is like comparing apples and oranges…the 2 are different entities…there is excellent New York style pizza….and there is excellent Chicago style pizza. They’re very different and both awesome on their own terms. Masa of Echo Park is the only place (I know of) that you can get truly authentic and really good Chicago style deep-dish pizza. Sure, there are plenty of places that offer deep-dish…but to be truly authentic Chicago, it’s got to be more than thick dough…you’ve got to, as Masa does, use a buttery, somewhere between pizza dough and biscuit, crust. You’ve got to put the cheese in first, then the toppings and sauce so the cheese seals the dough (and rises in bits through the sea of sauce to the top. Masa does all of this and provides the authentic Chicago pizza experience you’re looking for. (Even if you’re only looking for it sometimes…my mouth and belly have equal joy for authentic NY slices and occasionally I start thinking about real Chicago pizza and I just need it.) Masa is the real deal. Even my 9 year old who famously doesn’t like anything besides plain pasta found his Plain-Jane pizza astonishingly good. If you’re looking for authentic, and super good Chicago deep dish pizza in Los Angeles. This is the place to go. It’s worth the drive. (Unless you live close in which case you can just walk…you can make this call on your own.)

great place for hanging out. Coffee incredible. Service could be better. Gets frenetic at times. Food is good - varied menu vegetarians dream. Have wonderful breakfasts - lunches also. Never been there for dinner - but hear it is awesome as well.

As i stepped in, i thought "how cute is this place??!!" Right away was greeted by several employers who quickly showed us to a table. Service remained friendly and attentive throughout dinner. For dinner, had the garlic bread that was extra tasty and the deep dish pizza was pretty good. But I like the bread to be more moist rather than dry as was the case. The cesar salad was also tasty. Comes with large chucks of parmesean cheese. Definitely would be back to try all the other tasty sounding things like the pasta, sandwiches, and the bread pudding which i hear is not only a signature dish but to die for...

Spending most of our life in the Chicago area we miss deep Dish Pizza and Italian Beef sandwiches. Masa of Echo Park made a Deep Dish that is just a good as any we had in Chicago. We ordered the large for the four of us and took home the other half. We also had their salad while we waited for the pizza. It is worth the wait. Now if we could find a good Chicago style Italian beef everything would be good.

This has to be one of, if not the best, pizzas I have ever had! I had it for the first time tonight and fell in love. I ordered the build-your-own deep dish pizza, the small size. If there is two of you, a small is more than enough! We ate two and a half slices each and have three left over. The staff was also amazing! I highly recommend this resturant.

Holy cow...this place is amazing. Can't believe I haven't reviewed it since I've been so many times. I won't repeat everyone else and just add a short bit to what's been said. Besides the fact Masa has a kitschy, homey feel, what you get for your $$ in quality ingredients is insanely cheap. Last nite, I had a large deep dish pizza for 3 people plus a salad with excellent greens and with tax and tip it was $35. And there were still 3 pieces left. We could have easily shared with 1 more person. You get to bring in your own wine and they never complain or charge corkage and it's a fun place. I tell everyone about Masa b/c of the great food, value, atmosphere and service. It's great that the owner is often there and interacts with the customers. No wonder why, even on a Monday nite, they are super busy!

I love food and after trying many places we finally found the destination to satisfy our craving for really good pizza. Highly recommened ones Four cheese & Chicken supreme.

Living in Miracle Mile I seldom travel to the Eastside of LA. This pizza was worth it. Growing up in Chicago I know good pizza. I grew up eating Lou Malnatti's, Giordano's, Gino's East, Home Run Inn and Italian Fiesta (on the Southside, YUM!). I've had good thin crust pizza in LA. I love Jon & Vinny's but its such a scene you can't get a reso. I love D'amore's on 3rd as well. Masa pizza is the best I've had in ages and stands up to any pizza in Chicago. In fact it's better because it manages to be ooey, gooey cheesy good but feel light and somewhat healthy all at once. That's the sauce which is chunky with tomatoes and very fresh. It's your typical deep dish pizza with the sweet Italian sausage on top and the veggies and other ingredients baked inside. The crust is also amazing. 3 of us shared the Caeser salad and it was one of the best Caeser salads I've had anywhere. The presentation is lovely and the big triangles of Manchego are an awesome addition. It was easily sharable by 3 hungry adults! Side note; order your pizza first by either calling in or putting in your order when you arrive. There is a wait as seating is 1st come 1st serve so feel free to explore Echo Park. They will text you when your table is ready. We went to the Mexican restaurant across the street to the East and had the yummiest margaritas I've had in ages. My only complaint about Masa is during the day it's a coffee shop and it really looks like a mom and pop coffee shop/bakery. In a way that's charming but the interior and lighting are a bit odd and they fight with the fact that it's a great restaurant. That won't however keep me from coming back. The service is top notch. Everyone from the hostess to the counter help to the waitress was cool.

Have eaten here for lunches & many dinners over the years. Our family likes the deep dish pizzas and the incredible thin crusted pizzas too which we had two day ago. Memories of marvelous meatloaf a a cotinuous lure

Having lived in the Oakland area, I grew to love love love Zachary's Chicago-style pizza - so when I heard about Masa's I could not wait to try their pizza. They are a very close contender for Zachary's. The crust is probably better than Zachary's - a softer, buttery, flaky crust that adds a subtle but delicious nuance to the overall flavor of the pie. The toppings were good and the cheese was good. We had the meat pizza with sausage and pepperoni. I was surprised to see the sausage on top of the sauce - unlike at Zachary's where all the toppings are hiding under an unusually deep layer of sauce. The only disappointing component actually was the sauce. For those of you Zachary's aficionados, you will be disappointed in the sauce. Don't get me wrong - it is really really good sauce and I will definitely be going back to try other pizzas, but it's not nearly as good nor robust as Zachary's sauce. We also had the compressed manchego salad - this was a suggestion from our waitress - which we ordered because the wait for the pie is 45 minutes. Any deep dish pizza lover worth his or her salt will not grumble at that wait. It is what it is. She also brought us a soft little loaf of bread STRAIGHT from the oven that was so hot we could not even touch it to cut it for about five minutes. Yum! The bread and the salad were both excellent - and I don't recall every having a salad that good at Zachary's. The ambiance of the restaurant is a whole lot warmer and relaxed than Zachary's. You don't hear the yelling and stress and tension from the kitchen here. Even though you are waiting for your pizza for 45 minutes, we never felt stressed or rushed or like we were hogging table space - sometimes at Zachary's you order and then sit later because there's such a mad rush for those pizzas that take more than 30 minutes to bake. Also, I never did ask what the iced tea was - but it was scrumptious. Hell, I'd probably go back just for manchego salad and fresh bread and iced tea. Also, some folks next to us were ordering brunch. Everything on that table looked yummy. Despite the less than perfect sauce - I'm already plotting my next trip to Masa. Overall winners? Crust - Masa Toppings - Tie Cheese - Tie Sauce - Zachary's Ambiance - Masa Sides (salads, breads) - Masa Overall construction of the pizza - Zachary's

The pizza order was done on line and paid for. The delivery was scheduled but rescheduled a little longer since they were so busy. But oh it was worth the wait and oh so Good! Try some soon and see if you too like it as much as we did.

The chicago deep dish pizza is excellent but the bread pudding is to die for. Large portions, excellent service, nice atmosphere -- no wonder there is a wait. HIGHLY recommend Masa of Echo Park. DO NOT MISS THE BREAD PUDDING!!!!

Where to start.... The deep dish pizza is so amazing that I'm drooling a little bit just thinking about it. I usually order the "Lotsa Meat" and it's heaven everytime. I've also had the bistro pizza and the penne orleans pasta (spicy!) and they are also both delicious. The food is freaking great! But another really great thing about Masa is the the service. The servers are very attentive, friendly, and professional. Always on point. And the Hostess is pretty damn amazing too. Always making sure that everything is in order and everyone is happy. Whenever any of my relatives come visit from out of town, I take bring them to Masa. I already know that everyone will have a good time and I've never been wrong. Masa is the spot!

Masa is really a gem in LA. The ambience is welcoming, Pizza is good (not amazing) salads are exceptionally nice, dessert is wonderful and wine prices are VERY fair. I would like to return to explore the menu further. The deep dish pizza requires 45 mins so this is a nice relaxed social environment. It was a bit odd that they had Deliverance playing on a television with subtitles ( lots of “eeee”) in the dining room, but the service is perfect, food is good and price is remarkable for LA. I struggled here because if it was San Francisco or the Bay Area the food would be a 4. However for LA this is truly a find and I look forward to returning - hopefully a less gruesome movie than Deliverance on the TV. Not sure why they need a TV, as it is so incredibly noisy in there already.

We were sightseeing in the area and were looking for a place for a late lunch. On a recommendation we made our way to the Masa of Echo Park Bakery and Cafe. They offer a sufficiently wide variety of menu choices to satisfy a wide range of preferences. I love to get a patty melt when I can and zeroed in on this on the menu. I should have asked about how it was prepared before ordering (my bad) and was disappointed when it showed up on chiabatta bread. Not a bad sandwich but not what I was looking for. The potato leek soup was full of potato chunks and was nice and hot when served. Pricing wasn't excessive and the service was attentive and quick. Overall a nice experience and I would go back again.

when my daughter suggested MASA because of the Chicago deep dish pizza I did not have great expectations. This has to be one of the best deep dish pizza's I have ever had. From the perfect crust (its worth the 45 minute wait) to the homemade sauce and the delicious sweet italian sausage with fennel the pizza was perfect. The owner stopped by to check on us and when we started talking Chicago food he brought me a sample of his italian beef which was also good. Not only was the food perfect but pizza for 2 with wine and leftover pizza to take home was less than $25.

I died when I discovered this place. The decor creates the best atmosphere for a great dinner with friends. The unmatching chairs makes you feel like you're in a living room with a great vibe, all while having the most amazing pizza and drinks! Can't wait to go back

We had the Traditional, which is the Italian sausage and mushroom, and it was superb! The sauce is absolute perfection with chunky tomato pieces and tastes like it simmered for hours. We also had a delicious ceasar salad and the bread brought to the table before dinner is also really good. Our daughter had her own vegan pizza which she loved as well.

call an hour ahead and get the chicago style pizza.

great cuban sandwich and pretty good breakfast fare.

Me and some friends came here for the pizza. It was amazing. We ordered a large one which was more than enough for all of us. The waiter told us that we will have to wait as the restaurant was quite busy and it also takes some time for the pizza to be ready as it is deep dish. We weren't pleased by the waiting time, but in the end it was all worth it. The pizza was amazing, packed with topping. There was sausage on every bite. We had to use the utensils to eat the pizza (although I'm used to eating with my hands) and they weren't the best quality. Still, the food made it worth our while.

At first we tried to get in contact with them which is almost impossible. They seem not to reply on E-Mail since I asked them. (Up to now: No reply!) Even o the phone, the phone rang over a Minute before a guy took up. The Food is good, but unfortunately they only do the delivery with Doorash...

We visited the place to eat some pizza because of good reviews. We were impressed since we enter the place it has a good atmosphere and friendly waiters. We had a thin pizza ( I know they are well known for deep dish but this is huge). We loved the pizza, good wine and beer as well. The waiter was very friendly, helpful and professional ( Kelsi ). Very good place sometimes could get noisy because of many people in the place but it only indicates it's a good spot!.

We arrived at about 7:30 on a Friday night and were told there was an hours wait. We had a couple of drinks in a bar opposite and as soon as we were back our table was ready. We ordered the meat deep dish pizza and it was incredible. The sausage on it is clearly homemade and you can taste it. For two we had a small and had leftovers. I only managed two slices, pretty pitiful. But that's because the pizza's are seriously loaded. The service was great. The food was great. The atomoshepere was fun. When I'm back in LA, this will be first on my list to return to eat at.

We stumbled across this place on our way to spend the afternoon at echo park. It's lovely. We were welcomed and seated immediately. We were served by Chris who took us through the Masa speciality pizza...but when we saw one come passed we decided on paninis!! It looked amazing but so so huge. Chris also advised us to share a starter which turned out to be great advice. The servings are plentiful but so so good. Our drinks were topped up regularly without a fuss. Overall this is a perfect place and highly recommended. I will be recommending it to my sister who has lived in LA for years and never discovered this place!!!

A nice and quiet family restaurant, although I saw more hipsters than families. Anyway the place has very good food. Been there several times. Good deep dish pizza, damn good (gotta call ahead or wait a while if you order it there, but worth the wait). Food service are friendly and polite, no attitude problems, if you know what I mean. The decor isn't fancy or pretentious. Pleasant to my eyes and a great place to sit and enjoy a meal without being bumped on with people passing by.

Whether its the amazing deep dish pizza, or the manchego salad, or the thin cust pizza or any of their dishes, this place is great. Atmoshere, very mixed Echo park eclectic crowd and I go there for both celebrations and business lunches. My favourite neighbourhood restaurant.

It’s our second time at Masa and we will be back! If you budget your one hour of wait for you pizza, you won’t be disappointed! Their staff is kind and attentive, the atmosphere is cozy although a little noisy and the food is great, ingredients of top quality and awesome flavor - and the price is very fair and affordable. Their cookies are also phenomenal!

We decided to have lunch here based on a friend's recommendation and it was more than I expected. LOOOOOOVE the artsy atmosphere, the decor was great. It was a nice quiet lunch with super-friendly staff who are very upfront and honest about the wait time for pizza (~45 minutes) and will happily provide you with recommendations based on your likings. We ordered a small, deep-dish pizza (pepperoni and sausage) and could only eat half of it. It was delicious and oh-so filling. And the passion fruit tea was refreshing. We are looking forward to bringing the kids here. I can honestly say we were a little hesitant about going to Echo Park… but it's a very Artsy neighborhood, with a Record store down the street. It has definitely changed for the better as compared to 10 years ago.

We had lunch here after walking round Echo Park for an hour or so. Perhaps we should have run round ten times, because the food at Masa comes in large portions. Other reviewers had recommended the deep pan pizzas so we thought we'd try one. We were going to get a medium sized one but Kelsi, our charming server, advised a small one would be plenty for two. She was right. We couldn't even finish that! It was very good, though. We took the "lots of meat" option but there are vegetarian choices too. Recommended, but probably better for supper than lunch.

Fantastic deep dish pizza. The place itself has a lot of character, and the servers are very friendly. Order right away, since it takes 30-45min but I guarantee you, it is totally worth it!!! Great for people watching!

As a former Chicagoan I'm very selective about deep dish pizza. This place truly holds it's own. It's really Chicago deep dish pizza! It's a mom & pop place so get in early or you will definitely have to wait but it's so worth it! The pizza takes 45 minutes to bake but you will be happy you waited. I've taken quite a few friends here. Some were vegetarians, some were dairy free, and some were Chicagoans. They all LOVED this place. They serve beer and wine only so if you want a mixed cocktail not going to happen but who cares when you have that delicious pizza in front of you. The salads are great too and plenty to share. The service is great. Our servers have always been very friendly.

This pizza is so good, and so thick and heavy, you will forget that you were ever hungry before. You'll forget what hungry feels like, and you'll probably be so full that you'll sign up for a gym membership on your way home.

Cute little local restaurant. We had a neighborhood explore day and ended up eating pizza and drinking wine here. The owner and waitstaff were very nice and accomodating. You can have a nice conversation in this place and not have to shout. That's always a plus for a quiet talker like me.

We order the pizza based on the price from the menu but when we went to pick it up, the price was much higher. Menu price show $19.95/pizza and we had to pay $26.45/pizza. Since we order 2 pizzas, the total price was way more than we had anticipated.

We love this place! Cute little old school vibe , they have a tiny TV where they showing black and white I Love Lucy shows. Staff was friendly and gave just the right amount of attention. We ordered seafarer beers- great choice! Manchego salad which is probably one of the best salads in LA. We know this place is known for there deep dish pizzas but we opted for their thin crust- we did a build your own. Came out to the table perfectly hot, crust was exactly what we had hoped for. Awesome restaurant in a cool little town called echo park. If you go on Friday the farmers market is happening as well so great way to walk off a amazing meal. We will keep coming back!

LOVE the nicoise salad and fresh bread

My friemd from chicago said, ' This is how this pizza is suppose to taste like.' So i guess this place gets the thumbs up from a Chicagoan.

Delicious! We got a thin crust pizza which was ok. The blackened chicken one. We got the pasta which is phenomenal here!! I was really impressed with it! Their garlic bread was really good as well but once it gets cold, it's not as good and just really hard. I haven't tried their deep dish yet but I definitely want to come back and try it. I do have high expectations bc I'm from Chicago. Their outdoor patio is dog friendly!

Good basic spot for snacks and coffe and really friendly gals working there.

Bit of advice - if you are going to order a deep dish pizza, call 20 minutes before you arrive so they can start preparing it. It takes about 40 minutes to cook, so at least by the time you get there, they've already started to make it. My husband and I came here on Saturday 10/13/12 at 9:00AM. Yes, I said AM... nothing wrong with eating pizza for breakfast. ;) Ordered: 1 Small Traditional Deep Dish $14.95 1 Bread Pudding $7.95 1 Diet Coke $2.25 1 Ginger Ale $2.25 ============================= TOTAL: $27.40 + tax + tip OMG, we were so full afterward. Mind you that this was our ONLY meal we ate the entire day. The crust was good and the chunks of tomato was a nice contrast with the crust. The bread pudding is made from croissants so I don't even want to know how many calories are in a slice! It also has bits of chocolate and thinly sliced almonds in it. I would go back just for that bread pudding! There aren't too many restaurants in Southern California that serve traditional deep dish pizzas, and Masa's is one of them. The service was very friendly. The interior is eclectic with the decor with mismatched chairs and abstract art. My husband doesn't care for bread pudding, but once he tried Masa's he's definitely a bread pudding fan now!

Feel like splurging on some seriously amazing deep dish pizza without traveling all the way to Chicago? Well look no further since Masa of Echo Park will fill that void, and your appetite! My husband, Omid Moradshahi, and I recently popped over to Sunset when we had a pizza craving and fell in love with their deep dish pizza. Masa absolutely nailed the crust. Omid Moradshahi even said that it compared to Giordano's in Chicago, which is saying a lot. The ambiance is comfortable and nice, but don't go over here if you are in a hurry since, due to their popularity, it can take a minute to get your pizza out. Omid Moradshahi and I enjoyed the service and admittedly, didn't try anything else on the menu since the pizza took the main stage! Marjaneh Moradshahi

The deep dish pizza was way under done and the manager was very condescending and weird about it. "This is how deep dish pizza is" She refused to put it back in the oven or even let us take it home to properly bake it. We left hungry and pissed off after waiting an hour for nothing. I will not be back.

Nice atmosphere (staff, music, other guest) and great pizza. Ceasar salad was also very good. OHighly recommended.

Primarily a Chicago style pizza place. Extremely noisy when busy (which is always). The thin crust pizza is very crisp and delicious. The pizza itself was lacking in tomato sauce which made it very dry. The sauce looked like it had been painted on with a pasty brush. Chicago style is saucy and moist. Extra marinara was available at $2. The salad was good served on pizza crust.

really great stuffed pizza! (for not in chicago)

An absolutely MUST for all pizza lovers out there. The place is nice and cozy, a good option for authentic pizza dinner (if you manage to get a table on time). Anyway the staff is very friendly and they will offer you some drinks and pizza slices while you’re waiting for your pizza to takeaway or your table because the restaurant is full. Real Chicago style pizza. If you truly love pizza, this is your place!

I come here with my vegan and vegetarian friends. They have really good vegan pizza, and I say that as a meat eater. I sometimes order the vegan pizza. Good place to meet up with friends. East parking in a nearby lot. I recommend reservations.

I love Masa! Food is always delicious, excellent pizza, and excellent service! I would highly recommend.

Popped in for some deep dish after a glowing recommendation from a friend, and they were most certainly correct. It's a great spot, delicious pizza (especially the deep dish), and the staff was resoundingly polite and helpful. Great for a night out with friends.

No too crazy about this place. Small tables. I have better pizza elsewhere. I went several times and tried most of their foods, from pizzas to clams, and they were just over hyped. Decor is old and unattractive. Park on street with meter parking. If you work or live around the area and have no place to eat then try it, otherwise , you ain't missing anything.

Pizza was worth the 45 minute wait. It was delicious. Lots of cheese. Nice place to relax. Small town. Can also be romantic. Me and my husband could only eat 2 pieces of the small. Large is huge.

Great sandwiches, good prices, kick back atmosphere - eat here

Awesome Pizza! They even make a soy cheese pizza if you have a friend in need.

The pizza is truly delicious - best Chicago style you'll find in LA - others have tried, these guys succeed. Not only are the founder/owners from Chicago, so are the deep dish pizza pans - the real deal. The menu has lots of options, pizza and otherwise, offered with regular or vegan cheese. The salads are tremendous and the Sunset salad is served on top of a thin pizza crust - great presentation. Don't forget the croissant bread pudding! You won't think you have room but make the effort - it's truly incredible. Crafted from three types of croissants and drizzled with dark chocolate it's one of world's best desserts. One slice can satisfy a small table if you're truly stuffed from dinner. We were there early, 6:30p on a Saturday, and it was already hopping with a friendly, hip crowd inside and out. Definitely feels like a neighborhood place that draws from far and wide. The hostess will text you when you're table's ready so you can wonder around the neighborhood to check out consignment shops and other fun stuff. Definitely worth the wait.

Recently visited Masa with( husband) son who lives in area and recommended it. We had pasta, beef sandwich and pizza. Also bread pudding for dessert. Very good food at reasonable prices. Pasta and piazza very very good, but sandwich a bit dry. Bread pudding , wonderful, would be better with some ice-cream .Service was very friendly and dinner served in a reasonable amount of time. Server did forget the bread, which would have been nice while waiting. But overall would definitely return.

I love going to lunch with my work people or my boyfriend and I as a couple. The vibe in here is great. Sit in the window and Sunset Blvd is right there. If you sit farther back on the couches it is great to decompress from work and have some wine. The food is great, soups ,salads and pizza! All handmade fresh just the great quality of food and service, cant be beat.

I had a 'compressed' salad which was delicious ( beautiful greens, pears, wonderful dressing topped with and hard thin savory cheese) and a deep dish pizza which is made gluten free. Yum. Friendly service and it was packed with locals enjoying the large menu

Amazing deep dish pizza! Be prepared to wait 45 minutes because it's cooked fresh, but worth the wait! You can snack on an appetizer before too help which was good also. Loved the atmosphere and food was good!

This was not our first visit and though it is noisy, the food is good and service good. The salad was large and fresh and crisp.

I've lived in Chicago for 5 years and had all the great deep dish places there (Lou Milnati's, Giordano's, Uno, Geno's East), and frequently go to Tony's Little Italy in Placentia which has comparably good authentic Chicago-style Deep Dish. But friends suggested I try Masa so I finally made the trip to Echo Park and here are my thoughts: Pizza: The best deep dish I've had. Corn Bread crust is perfect, the ingredients (especially the tomatoes) are fresh, the mozzarella is perfectly stringly, and, best of all, the pizza is not too greasy. Two slices into it and I wasn't nearly full. (btw, a medium has about 8 slices and can feed 3 easily). Ambience: Excellent atmosphere, friendly staff, 45 minutes for the pizza which is a good thing (true deep dish shouldn't be rushed) and, most importantly, the place was jam packed at 10:30 pm on a random Wednesday evening. This means this place is legit. Take home: reheated a slice in the oven the next day, and tasted just as good. Can't wait to go back!

Searching for good Pizza in Los Angeles? Look no further. You will not be disappointed at Masa of Echo Park. We ordered one of the large House Specials and fed four. Good location for the city and public parking not a problem.

Perfectly prepared Chicago deep dish custom made pizza that taste's more like a spectacular yummy dessert. Go figure. I love the block of sausage layered on top! All the ingredients are fresh and the wait staff is excellent and attentive. The Minestrone soup, Cesar salad and a carafe of their red wine is an excellent way to begin dinner. Beware, the wait, on the weekends, can be 45 minutes or longer but it's worth every minute. Enjoy!!

I used to live round the corner and would walk over for brunch every single weekend, sometimes twice. It's brilliant for dinner, too — I always took visiting out of towners. I moved to the other side of the word and I miss it so much.

My wife & I were in the mood for pizza, so we asked our friend (lived right off of Sunset) for a recommendation. He told us Masa, hands down, would be the best Chicago style pizza we've ever had. Had to give it a try. The inside of the restaurant is quaint, pleasantly dark & decorated like many of the little hole in the walls I've eaten at in Rome. The smells from the kitchen were tantalizing. We ordered the house red wine (a very good Cabernet) & decided on the Lots Of Meat Chicago style pizza. We ordered it 1st thing because it takes about 35 minutes to cook. While we waited, we sampled the freshly cooked loaf of Cuban bread - smothered in butter - my mouth is watering as I think about it. My wife & I split the Manchego date compressed salad - it was more than enough for both of us - light, fresh, tasty. And then the pizza arrived. My friend was right - this was the best Chicago style pizza I've ever had, & I've eaten it in Chicago.... crust was brilliant, the pizza sauce was fresh & tangy with just enough cheese & so much meat. We ordered a medium & then ate leftovers for the next 2 days. I only wish we had had room for dessert - the bread pudding looked amazing. When in the area, eat at Masa. Order the Chicago style pizza. Have some wine & Cuban bread while you wait. This is how pizza should be done.

We needed to find dinner. Found this restaurant in the binder our the hotel had in the room. Very tasty deep dish pizza. Atmosphere cool. Nothing matched. Chairs lamps etc.

Friends brought me here to try my first Chicago style pizza. I enjoyed it but as we shared we got peppers which I usually like but didn't enjoy in the pizza. I think next time I'd prefer something simpler but that's not fault of the restaurant. The table was a bit a small for 4 of us but we made it work

I want to start out by saying that all the servers here were super friendly & on top of making sure your drinks were topped off. But...as a pizza place that people rave about, I guess I was hoping for something special in their crust or sauce or something. It was all solid but not the best or most memorable deep dish I've ever eaten. I tried the traditional & one with olives/mushrooms...it tasted better with tapatio sauce. I've never been to Chicago so my reference point is Zachary's in Berkeley. If Zachary's is a 5, Masa's is a 3. Not bad but not great. I would still eat here again though.

Masa is a reliable old-fashioned neighborhood Italian restaurant known for its deep-dish pizza which takes an hour to make it to the table. I never had time to order that, but had normal American style pizza, that was fairly good, but not outstanding. I would go to Masa again, but without high expectations for something special. Sometimes ordinary is OK.

It was my last night in LA before heading home, and my son and his wife really like this place. They are very kid friendly, and we sat in their usual spot, in kind of a living room area with couches and nice chairs. Also a large table for all the food you will order. Appetizers were awesome; we had mozzarella sticks with nice dips and lightly breaded. We also had artichoke and spinach dip, also very good. Everyone else had pizza, and loved it! I had the gnocchi with pasta and bacon; it was very good but enough for two people. The bread they serve before dinner was awesome, and so good you can eat it plain, but save room for dinner! The service was outstanding, we were a little ahead of the dinner rush. But our waitress was very friendly and very efficient. Our food arrived pretty quickly. She made the kids feel good by bringing over a coloring book. Pricing was in line with what expected. About $80 for five of us to eat. We didn't have many cocktails so that held the price down. A nice spot, I see why my son likes it so much.

My family and i went for lunch at masa, the food was absolutely delicious, the service staff was so nice, thoughtful and friendly. The vibe at the restaurant is chill and easygoing, will absolutely be coming back! Thank you for making our experience delightful 💖💖💖🫶🏻☝️☝️

My husband and I live in Orange County but frequently head up to Los Angeles to eat because there are so many restaurants. A friend who lives in the neighborhood suggested we head to Masa for the best pizza. Since my husband and I love deep dish pizza, we immediately put Masa on our radar. We ordered a simple pepperoni deep dish pizza. The wait time was normal - about 40 minutes since we didn't order ahead. It was fine, though. The restaurant is located on the corner, perfect for people watching. The pizza was very good. It didn't feel too greasy. It had just the right amount of cheese and pepperoni. Since it is so huge, we could only have one slice each and took the rest home. I must say, it even tastes better re-heated. The crust was just OK. I think it could have a little more flavor. My tastebuds need it, so perhaps for others, it might be just right. We have had deep dish in Chicago (which can't be beat), so maybe I have a bit of a bias. But when you can't travel, I think Masa hits the spot. Side note: At the time we visited, we noticed on their company newsletter that the shop was going to be closed the following Saturday because they had 2 weddings to attend -- both for employees (I believe one is for two employees who were marrying each other!). I though that was really sweet. I really felt a sense of family.

This is one of my favorites: good service and food. The pizza is fresh and the Caesar Salad is the best. It's a low key restaurant not too fancy but the food is to die for. However be prepared to wait and enjoy the dining experience.

Just finished off a Chicago style pepperoni pizza. I've never eaten pizza that is even a close 2nd. Great capaccino too.

4 of us stopped by Masa for a Dodgers/Yankees pregame meal. We were greeted by our waitress Athena, who was not only a beautiful young lady but witty. We ordered a large Traditional Deep Dish and Athena reminded us it will take about 45 minutes for the large deep dish. While waiting we enjoyed an order of the vegan garlic bread, which comes with marinara sauce for dipping. This starter was a 10 on the rating scale. We also enjoyed an order of mussels, followed by a Caesar Salad both fresh and tasty. The deep dish arrived right around 45 minutes. The mushrooms, sausage, marinara sauce, plenty of cheese, and delicious crust was definitely a 10 on the rating scale. All 4 of us have enjoyed original Chicago deep dish over the years and Masa’s undoubtably matches those of the Windy City. This large deep dish was enough to feed 4 men, with 2 slices left over. I’d definitely return to Masa for a great pizza dinner. The ambiance is a throwback to the 1940’s which added to an enjoyable dinner and clearly all the other tables were enjoying their meals. Just remember to include 45 minutes into your dinning plans and know you won’t regret that wait! I do want to thank Chris who found my sunglasses, which I left behind the booth we sat in. And was able to pick them up after the game as Masa’s was still busy with business approaching 11pm. Understandably so with the great tasting food a fine service.

Discover this hidden gem in Echo Park on Sunset Blvd. the best deep dish pizza outside of Chicago! They allow you to pre-order so the 45 minutes isn’t a big deal. Super friendly staff, great atmosphere - neighborhood ambience and absolutely delicious. Lots of other choices if deep dish isn’t your thing. Manchega salad was superb. Can’t wait to go back.

Really really tasty pizza but it took an age to cook and we didn't even have the deep dish. Saying that, it was hectic so...

This place has delicious food and excellent customer service! My favorites are: - minestrone baked soup - suppli - Elysian Park pizza, and - Manchengo Salad Go eat it now!

Looking for pizza, pasta, comfort food in Los Angeles? This is the place. Chicago style pizza is the best! Salad was excellent, service top notch and friendly. Will definately be back.

deep dish chicago pizza!

First, listen to the server, the small will feed 2-3 people! The deep dish is at least two inches thick! Great flavors, wonderful, home style ambiance. I'm no expert, but I expect this is the real deal. Go hungry! But know your pizza will take 40 minutes to cook. Imbibe in some house chianti while you wait and enjoy the atmosphere.

Masa of Echo Park is a cozy pizzeria known for its delicious thin crust pizzas. The rustic ambiance and friendly service create a laid back dining experience. wait times can be longer during peak hours and the restaurant can get noisy when busy.

Love to go to Masa for many reasons! Because there is usually a wait on weekends, we get to put on our name on the list then go across the street to a nifty bar and cool our heels. The pizza is magnificent - we get the classic veggie. The beer selection is fab and the servers are all genuine and friendly. Never any attitude and just a great neighborhood spot to wind down.

Great food and warm atmosphere. The steamed claims, the panini's and the bread pudding are out of this world. The Pizza is pretty good too, but I'm not a fan of pizza generally speaking.

The sunny decor and friendly staff are just part of the ambience. From the music to the food, and including the friendly clientele conversations surrounding you, It's a great experience. Note: the deep dish pizza takes about 40 minutes, so order when you have time to enjoy the room and the company you're keeping.

Tucked into a corner on Sunset Boulevard, this casual little bistro is about 5 minutes from downtown and serves the best deep dish pizza you will ever have. They also serve thin crust, as well as a number of pastas and such entrees as mussels and meat loaf. Good local brews on tap, as well as Guinness, etc. Great spot for lunch or dinner; good friendly service.

Went here after reading all the great reviews on tripadvisor. The food really is as good as all the reviews made it out to be. It was really busy, but that just goes to show how good it is! The atmosphere and the staff were all super friendly.

Real Chicago deep dish experience. Stuffed beyond belief! Not a regular Joe Blow pizza joint. Sausage pie exceeded all expectations!!

Wasnt willing to wait the 40 min for the 2" deep dish pizza, so had the bistro thin crust instead. It was fabulous! All fellow diners enjoyed their selection except the lasagna. Great servers with personality. I suggest you make a reservation though. Very close to Dodger Stadium. Metered parking close by.

I'm from Chicago and was always on the hunt for anyone that came even close to capturing the taste and essence of Chicago style deep dish pizza (frankly the best kind of pizza one could ever consume...trust me on this one folks!). I was so pleased after just one bite that the owners of this cute little Echo Park eatery got it! They take their pizza making seriously and you will not be disappointed. Love this place and so glad we have it here in LA.

Stopped in for an early dinner. Love the atmosphere here, and it's good for families. The bread they bring before your food is awesome, I could have eaten a lot of it, just by itself! We had four different pizzas, including veggie pies. They sort of specialize in Chicago Deep Dish, and ask when you sit down if you want one because they take a little longer to cook. They looked really tasty but we stuck with thin crust. Reasonable pricing, good service, and a fun spot.

This restaurant has a few good aspects and a few bad aspects. They are famous for their Chicago deep dish pizza which to me is just doughy and overpriced. I dont like the taste of the deep dish pizza at all ,and it is bit pricey ,bready ,doughy tasting and bland. There most famous pasta is the Masa Penne which could be tasty if didnt have 2,000 milligrams of salt overpowering it. Cant tell them to go east on the salt either because it pre-made earlier in the day. The burgers are good and come with a choice of salad or pre fabricated frozen crappy french fries. AVOID these fries at all COSTS!! Also they have a burger panini which always comes out over cooked. I hate well done meat. So you have to get the burger and NEVER the panini unless you like your burgers well done. I am very fond of the muscles with garlic but they put too much garlic in it and cant/wont alter the amount of garlic for some odd reason. Again they come with those nasty frozen fries that they will only change into a salad for $6.00 which to me is OUTRAGEOUS . The great thing about this restaurant is that they let you bring in up to two bottles of wine a table with NO corkage fee and the salads are organic and tasty. I love the Manchego Salad . Skip the spaghetti and meatballs also the meatballs taste odd. The restaurant has a good vibe and great deserts. The acoustics in the restaurants make the restaurant environment very loud.

We were in town for the Rams game and decided to grab a pizza after checking into the hotel. Read the reviews and decided to check this place out. They tell you up front the deep dish will take 45 minutes and if we didn't want to wait, the thin crust 20. We went for the deep dish sausage and pepperoni. The sausage is a large slab and was awesome. We got a medium and could only eat two slices. The rest made for a good lunch the next day. We got there before the rush, but it filled to a line out the door before the pizza came. Would definitely go back. it was pretty noisy and difficult if not impossible to have a conversation though.

Allow 45 minutes for a deep dish pizza. It, as well as the bread and salads, were all very, very good. The place is eclectic, for instance none of the chairs at our table we're alike and some folks were hanging out on old sofas while waiting for carry out. The neighborhood is odd--"HIV Testing" is the lighted sign in the window next door. Nevertheless, the area seemed safe and some regulars came in while we were there. Good food and good service; hence the four-circle rating.

For deep dish in LA you just can't beat Masa! Yes, there's Ton'ys Little Italy, Chicago Pasta House, Oak Fire, and Taste of Chicago, in and around LA but none for me does as much with ALL the components as Masa. By that I mean not only is the cheese great, but the sauce is amazing--so much depth and homemade character I order an extra dose of it--AND the crust is terrific, not a bland doughy afterthought, but with a mild but meaningful buttery, slightly corn flavor!! The staff is friendly, the vibe is relaxed and fun, and their bread pudding is made with their own plain, chocolate, and almond croissants! A pie with all the ingredients I like is not cheap, but I love Masa! For me, it sets the bar for deep dish around town.

This is the best Chicago style pizza in LA. If you don't know what that Chicago style pizza is then google it. It takes a while to make but that's all part of the process. Also the bread pudding is the best in LA. Josh is super cool too man.

If the Friends cast opened a pizza place with a hip, reggae vibe, this would be it. Blink and you might imagine you've strayed into a hookah bar or a niche Melrose Avenue clothing store, the kind that loose cred the instant they become too popular. The waitresses on duty that night were unbelievably gorgeous, smart with a touch of snarky like in countless Hollywood urban discovery legends regarding girls in dimestore cafes. These probably moonlight in bluesy bands at the Whiskey or intern at the Museum of Contemporary Art. I picture their boyfriends sporting Illuminati tattoos and lobe-sized earrings inserted during ceremonial rights deep in the Amazonian rain forest. None of this is likely true. But it is more interesting than our pizza, unfortunately. We ordered the four-cheese deep dish and I was expecting to be blown away. While the pie itself certainly weighed in at an impressive heft and girth (a downright bargain at about $17.50), the distinct twang of buffalo mozzarella, among others, were drowned out in a sea of tomatoes. I understand this to be standard for the deep-dish experience, and thus unfair of me to compare with what are apparently my thin-slice preferences. Chicago, I will always love you but I'm a NYer when it comes to cheese pizza. Pity then that not only the featured combos but the personalized toppings fail to offer more quirky choices on the buld-it-yourself menu - because next time, I would go out on a limb for at least the olive and mushroom variation. Where are the hardly risque kalamata olives and portabella mushrooms? Where the pesto sauce or whole wheat crust? What boring food in this of all places! Go figure: leave it to LA to find such a trendy locale with ample, achingly straightforward fare. Anybody hankering for a generous Chicaco deep dish slathered in ample Italian pomodoro may have found their pizza paradise. Me, I'm not that hip, not so trendy. Just a guy who, when it comes to pizza, finds himself in a NY state of mind.

Masa is cute restaurant. It is conveniently located on Sunset blvd. Parking was good during lunch. At night it may be a hassle as there are a lot of venues close by. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the deep dish pizza, which came highly recommended by some friends. Be prepared to wait. It took almost an hour, which seemed standard. The pizza was huge, and I shared it with my husband, and he was not able to finish it off. The next time I go to Los Angeles I will be taking some friends to visit Masa's.

Get ready to lift weights with your pizza! We ordered take out--a great idea on a Saturday night as it was crowded with people waiting! This is probably the best pizza I had ever eaten. The vegetarian deep dish is to die for--fresh ingredients, healthy and a MEAL!

Not all the food offered matches the excellence of the deep dish, but then again, any place that masters deep dish outside of Chicago is worth every penny.

I was hiking "Secret Stairs of Los Angeles" when I walked by Masa and noticed the sign for Deep Dish Pizza and I said I coming back and bringing my bride. All I had was the sausage and pepperoni pizza my wife added a few beers which was exactly what I wanted. Noteworthy uncommon pleasures were that the pizza was not greasy or oily, the bottom and crust were not burned (or blackened) at all and it wasn't salty (sometimes pepperoni can be really salty). Just perfect. A couple of things to note: 1) Pizza takes at least 45 minutes (but worth it to get that crust done but not burned) 2) No parking, you have to find a place on the street or look for a pay lot 3) The decor is a hodgepodge, lamps all different, chairs all different. We were originally seated in a dark corner we found a little claustrophobic. 4) We were there on at Saturday at 2:30 PM and there were quite a few people there so I imagine it can get very crowded.
I love the atmosphere and the chocolate chip cookies are great!
