First night's dinner

By richardtz |

Then to this restaurant for lunch on my last visit here in Seattle 7 years ago and had a good time then. Suggested this place for dinner to my friend so we went here on our first evening. Be aware dinner is way more expensive than lunch. And the menu is quite limited. I had a $45 piece of halibut that was only okay not bad but not great. My friend had crab cakes. Two of them for $25. We like wine by the glass they only had four selections $20 in average price. personally I think there's a lot better restaurants in town for a more reasonable price and a better selection. I know this place has a long-term reputation. And it was busy. But personally I felt that it was one of the most expensive dinners I had and not that delicious and not that bountiful. That's my

Think twice before you go

This is one of the restaurants I was really looking forward to visiting. We arrived 40 minutes early from our site seeing morning and they said they couldn't seat us early or offer cocktails and recommended a place close by. They also stated they should still be able to honor our 1:15 reservation. The "should be" part was a concern, isn't that why you get a reservation because you expect the "will" honor it. They were ready for us when we returned at 1:15. The table placement was good and next to a window. The server told us right away they were running short of the fish special so I requested one immediately. We got our wine pretty quick, than 45 minutes later my husband inquire the status of our appetizer. The server replied these are made fresh to order and take some time. A few minutes later the fresh chips arrived cold with a piping hot dip we requested they not bring us since it contained bacon. Obviously this was not a freshly prepared appetizer. Around 10 minutes later, the gentleman who seated us arrived to say they were out of the fish I ordered and he would gladly pay the extra for the scallops. Which IU happen to be allergic to. At that point we opted to leave, still hungry, pretty upset and besides them not charging for the cold chips left behind or the 2 wine glasses pretty mush totally dissatisfied. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

First night Seattle

Great dinner! Yes yes yes, this is definitely a spot to remember, charcuterie was fantastic and of course you’ve got to start with oysters, all delicious xx

a wonderful dining experience...

By jpm-indy |

My wife and I dined here recently for our anniversary and everything was wonderful. I've dined here several times for work related events. The food was fantastic (as usual) and the service was very, very good. We shared appetizers (bread, and endive salad) which was plenty. My wife had the halibut and I had the duck. We each had a dessert which was amazing! This place is definitely worth visiting. Not for the faint of heart though - drinks, dinner, and dessert will be north of $200 (incl tip).

Ok….

By jenn0707 |

Looked hopeful and fun but after an hour we still had no food. It took 30 min just to get drinks. Everyone was super friendly but it was sooo slow and the food which should have been awesome was fine. Fish was definitely overcooked. We were hoping for the best seafood ever seeing that we were above a fish market but it just didn’t turn out that way;(

AMAZING lunch

By Texasgirl95 |

We went to lunch as a family. Great views and very cool restaurant. It was a high light of the trip! Amazing service. I wish I could remember his name. very funny and outgoing. We started with the deviled eggs which were a treat. I also def recommend their bloody mary. Everyone loved their entrees. I had the fish sandwich! We would definitely return!!

Nice place to eat overlooking Pike Place Market

By Amanda L |

What a wonderful spot to eat, overlooking Pike Place Market in Seattle. A couple of us ordered one of the featured daily specials, and the food was very good. Had my first experience eating oysters! (And last, but at least I did it!). It's a bit on the pricey side, but loved the ambiance.

Pleasurable experience, great food, friendly atmosphere

By Norman |

4 of us had lunch last Monday (090919). We were there as you opened & were seated promptly. Our server made this a quite memorable visit - I believe her name was Anna. She provided us with information to reach the airport via light rail. Pure enjoyment, great food, exceptional service. As we live in St. Louis, MO - we, unfortunately, will not be regulars.

Amazing Food

By MGT |

Lovely hidden place, amazing service, live kitchen, well presented food... the seafood soup is something amiss if you don't try it..

Lively atmosphere, fantastic fare!

By Keli S |

We had a large family gathering at Matt’s on a busy Saturday. The staff was welcoming and friendly and they did a great job of serving us. The food was fresh and delicious...the deviled eggs, bacon and onion dip with chips and the seared scallops were standouts.

Great find in busy Pilke Market

By Gill H |

Great restaurant, tucked away upstairs from the very busy market, professional service and great food. Small menu, but plenty to suit everyone, definitely worth tracking down.

Amazing food, great location

By travels_ahoy |

As we hadn't been able to book a table, we turned up at Matt's about 15 mins before they opened at 11:30 - luckily, they said they could squeeze us in so long as they could have the table back by 12:45 which worked fine for us. The location (opposite Pike Place Market) is great and we even had a window table which was great for people watching. All the food was lovely, but particularly the daily special that my husband had, which was a scallop dish - he said it was the best thing he ate in Seattle! Tasty food, really helpful staff, great location - will definitely be back next time we're in Seattle.

The best you can get at Pike Market

By Elizabeth Sam |

Best seafood that you can get at Pike Market. We shared salad and a seafood pot. Just nice for small eaters like us. Service was courteous and friendly. They have multiple floors so choose the floor that suit your view.

Pretty good

By Robert |

Great location above market good menu and service, limited but adequate food selection good service and prices in cool loft space. I'd go again and recommend for lunch maybe dinner too

Outstanding Dinner!

By LindaTours |

I almost didn't make a reservation here after reading some of the reviews, but am so glad we went. This was our best meal in Seattle. Sitting by the window watching Pike Place market below is a blast. Service here is outstanding and you can see they work as a team. I don't don't feel the portions were too small either, I think there are too many restaurants serving huge portions. The halibut was amazing, drinks were perfection and the creme brulee with homemade donuts was to die for! Don't hesitate to give this restaurant a try.

Great atmosphere

By FF_Traveller_123 |

Great for young and old, couples and families. the service was a little slowed but the place is pretty laid back anyway.

Wonderful dinner

By Cylkejudge |

We had an amazing dinner in Matt's. It is a welcoming and friendly place with excellent service and fantastic food. The Hamachi Crudo starter especially good. Loved it.

"substitutions politely declined" Too much attitude for what they serve

By svaderah |

Chef's make great efforts to pair their accompaniments with the main dish. Granted. To summarily reject a patron's request is sheer arrogance. That said lets talk about food, in all fairness everything was good and nothing was spectacular. Combine this with a cafeteria like ambience, rude service and top it all off by overpricing, you have Matts in the Market.

Great Lunch w/Fresh Fish and a Nice View

By soitgoes14 |

We loved our lunch at Matt’s in the Market. It can be a little difficult to locate but follow the directions on the website and the signs and just go up the stairs they tell you to. Give yourself a little extra time in case you get turned around trying to find it. We made a reservation for 11:45 for lunch on a Saturday. We arrived a little before 11:30 when they open and there was a small line waiting to get in. I hazard to say if you got there before they open you may not need a reservation but probably best to make one just in case. We were seated at a two top against the wall by the counter bar. We had a great view of the opening of the market where they throw the fish so that was a nice unexpected surprise. For an appetizer we started with the deviled eggs. Delicious! I think there were 5 or 6 eggs it was a lot. Probably more than the two of us needed this could easily be shared with a larger group. My wife ordered the special of the day that was a crab dish and enjoyed it, but we both agreed my fishwich sandwich won the meal. Really good halibut that day (the fish changes daily). Cooked perfectly on a good bun. Highly recommended. We both got the potato salad as a side and it was great. It is more grainy mustard base than mayo base. Again, highly recommended. Our service was great throughout the meal. No issues. I think it was great meal and I would want to go back the next time I’m in Seattle.

Good food and service

By musclegirl68 |

Definitely recommend making reservations. We tried to get in before our reservation time and they could not accommodate. Decor is warehouse with butcher block tables and an open kitchen. Our server was super friendly and sweet. He made excellent recommendations and did not mind explaining the ingredients in the soups of the day several times to me as I made up my mind. I had the burger and curry pea soup. The burger was very good but the soup was absolutely fantastic. The curry in the pea puree was so subtle and smooth. It was sweet, spicy and aromatic. Husband had the reuben (can't remember if it was pastrami or corned beef and can't see it through all the slaw in my photo). Unfortunately there was way more slaw than meat. He was a little disappointed. Overall it was a good experience. We sat away from the window so we didn't get a view of the market but that didn't really matter since it was pouring. My comment to the restaurant is to update their menu's on their website. Many of the items are no longer offered.

Overpriced, but as expected

By theirreverentkitchen |

We ate here for lunch as a group of four on a Monday. We were visiting Pike Place Market with another couple and they suggested this place, so we agreed to give it a try. They made reservations and that was a really good idea. We arrived a good fifteen miinutes early for our reservations and just after the place opened, which was a very good thing. The crowds were already forming, even then. We were seated promptly and thanks to arriving early, we even had a window table. They manage to squeeze in more tables than I would have thought possible, but there was enough room for everyone to move around as necessary. "Intimate" isn't a word that would ever be used to describe this place, but it was bright and clean. The service was prompt and attentive and was much better than I was expecting. Our waitress took our orders, checked on us several times during our meal and never let our water glasses go empty. Given the number of diners, that was quite a feat. All of our meals were good and well presented. Figure about twenty-five dollars, including tax and tip, for a sandwich with included side salad and only water to drink, so it isn't exactly a bargain, but it is Seattle and it is at Pike Place Market. I ordered a banh mi which was a very good sandwich, but hardly a banh mi. OK, it's Seattle, not Saigon, so what can you expect? The other orders were all enjoyed. Another plus to this place was that even though the crowds were lined up, we were never made to feel that we wree being served and then pushed out the door. Perhaps that was because we didn't dawdle, but I'll chalk it up to the professionalism of the staff. Working in that kind of a crush isn't easy, but they did an excellent job. Overall, the meal was overpriced, but as expected given the location.

Great view

By Rita T |

Reserve a table overlooking the market. The windows are open and you can enjoy the hustle below and see the beautiful flower boxes above. Three of our party enjoyed the fishwich. They all said incredible how the fish is sliced and lightly breaded. I had the Cobb salad which was good but missing the chicken. Kept looking for it but no luck. Ask for it to be tossed!

One of Pike Place Market's finest restaurants

By Matthew F |

If you're heading to Seattle soon, make a note to find time to eat at Matt's in the Market. My partner took me there for my first time about 4 years ago and I fell in love two times; the first time was for the food and the second is because my name is Matt and I'd never eaten at a restaurant that bears my name. The service is outstanding, the food even more outstanding. The views are splendid and make for great photos of the market from your table. I can't wait to visit again!

Great place, amazing food!

By RJ |

Awesome place. Near the water, very good decoration, some waiters were a little rude but it's ok, the blonde lady that took care of us was extremely kind and professional. The food was out-of-this-world good! We ordered wine, a cheese plate which was delicious and I ordered the Seafood Stew which was exquisite. A little pricey but extremely recommended.

Excellent Meal

By Rich H |

My wife and I ate here one evening while in Seattle. It was highly recommended & the food was top notch. The service was great too. The only downfall was it was quite loud. The view of the Market is great. It’s a bit pricy but as I said the food is excellent

Lovely Dinner Spot

By Anna B |

I'm sure there are many good spots at the Market to light, but a friend recommended Matt's and we had a great meal. The space isn't real big, but the view from the windows of the market and street below are fun for watching. Although this isn't an elegant dining experience, it is on the moderate to expensive side so be prepared for that. (While we were there a group came in, sat down, looked at the menus, and got up and left in just a few minutes.) My fish was fresh and prepared perfectly--although it was a big portion and I thought I would leave a good bit of it, that didn't happen! My husband had the lamb shank, which was flavorful and tender.

Dine like its 1999.

By J and d. |

It all starts when you walk in the door… -Woman at host podium greeted us with a blank stare. Apparently the customer needs to initiate contact. After which I explained we had a reservation, like a sulky teenager (but pushing 40) she wordlessly led us to our table. -Server gave off that same cold and disinterested vibe that in 1996 for some weird reason was cool in Seattle? -when your entrees start at $50 and your starters start at $20 you should damn sure at least have tablecloths. Food was pretty good, but not so good to overlook the 1990s era seattle service. Times have changed and you’d think that the the damage occurred to restaurants during the pandemic would have put a nail in the coffin of that stupid seattle freeze affect that was formerly a thing. If you’d like to find a relic from the 90s, this is the place to go!

Amazing Matt's in the Market

By Victoria L |

We showed up a little early for our reservation and were seated in minutes. The staff was amazing and all worked in unison to make sure our experience was memorable...and it was. I had the Seafood Stew and I would highly recommend it, it was divine! We asked for a wine recommendation and we enjoyed a bottle of Pinot from Washington State. Such a great evening, can't wait to get back to Seattle for another great meal at Matt's!

Amazing food

By chase |

Amazing food and service our sever was a delight. Our family had a great time enjoying their environment.

Lovely dinner

By Lynda V |

We really enjoyed our dinner here. Lovely atmosphere and nice views of the water (somewhat blocked by the market), friendly but not overly so service, and excellent food.

Lovely food, great location

By Annie P |

Atmospheric location overlooking the market. Interesting and innovative menu and 9for once) a relaxed approach to service that meant that we could take our time and didn't feel rushed through our meal. Great service, probably our favourite restaurant experience of our trip

A Foodie’s Restaurant

By Gailyn63 |

Friends recommended Matt’s, so we gave it a try. We started with the grilled octopus and hamachi ceviche as appetizers, both delicious. Our mains were the halibut and scallop and short rib. Scallops and short rib! Is that not a great combination? The bread was okay, not great, though the butter was delicious. Service was great. Definitely worth a visit.

Fabulous meal!

By ChrisCDC |

We booked our table a couple of weeks in advance and I am pleased we did, this is a very popular restaurant. The staff were welcoming, polite and attentive throughout our meal. The menu covers all tastes and we all absolutely loved the meal choices we made, just delicious. Highly recommended.

Hard to find, but fresh and delicious

By Brock G |

Took us a while to find it as we couldn’t find any signage, however I was in a mission to eat here. We had the market priced scallops which were cooked to perfection. Meal was great, service was okay. A little overpriced, however you expect this in the area.

A disappointing experience

By Matt |

We chose to take friends to Matt's in the Market on Friday night because we wanted a premium dining experience with delicious food. While the wine, cocktails and food lived up to our expectations, the service we received from our waitress and then her manager was atrocious.  We made reservations a little over a week prior to dining there and we were seated a bit before our scheduled reservation. Everything started off well and we ordered a few glasses of wine, a cocktail, a couple appetizers and eventually four entrees. My wife has Celiac and like many restaurants in Seattle, this restaurant does not offer gluten free bread or crackers. Because of this, my wife often takes gluten free crackers with her to eat with her salad and wine before the mains come out. Our waitress came by and saw this and abruptly said that they do not allow outside food or drinks which I generally understand. I asked if they had any gluten free bread or crackers available and the answer was no. I explained that my wife has an allergy to gluten and they were special for her. Now at this point, many of the restaurants that we dine at allow the few crackers that she brings in and understands that some people have unique dietary requirements.  A few minutes later the manager came over to clear plates or something and we asked if they would allow my wife to eat her gluten free crackers at which point she snapped back and said it was illegal for any outside food or drinks. Illegal? Come on...it's not like we're bringing our own beers in and the restaurant isn't losing anything because they don't sell gluten free bread options.  This whole experience placed a big damper on our evening and this well known restaurant ended up being a disappointment . We should have walked out at that point. We will not be returning to Matt's and we will encourage our friends to skip this place, too.

Centrally situated Restaurant at the Pike Market not only for fish lovers.

By Martin S |

This well situated restaurant offers a good choice of well prepared seafood and other dishes. Definitely to order are the deviled eggs as starter. All dishes were freshly prepared in the open kitchen and very delicious. Nice variety of wine and a huge choice of whiskeys or other digestives let you digest this excellent food more easily. When planing to have lunch, you should come in time, because the kitchen closes at 2.30pm Reservation recommended to avoid waiting time.

Small but perfectly formed menu

By jbjo13 |

This place does allow you to BYO at a charge :-). The menu changes regularly based on what is in season. We were seated right next to the pass and watched all the food go out to diners - making it very hard to choose what we would have as it all looked fantastic. The fresh halibut was a winner for me as was the burrata. There are tables and bar seating - be sure to book.

Seemed Expensive...

By DayTrip597388 |

Maybe it's simply the price of going out in Seattle, but $9 for a small dessert and $16 for a sandwich at lunch seemed steep. The crab salad looked good but not for $26. The food, fortunately, tasted great so I've no qualms there. The staff was friendly and attentive and my window seat gave me a chance to people watch while waiting for my meal. Their location directly across from the Public Market Center sign was perfect for watching tourists lining up for photos.

Superb meal

By Barbara L |

Right in the heart of iconic Pike place market the restaurant offers great fresh food superbly cooked. Although on the pricey side it is well worth a visit.

Nice restaurant in a great location----but.

By Dennis B |

Would I recommend Matt's to a friend?----Maybe. The restaurant is well managed, in a great location, the staff was great and the wines are nice but we simply didn't like the food. The food at this lovely restaurant is prepared with a sweet note as opposed to a savory one. we started with the Hamachi Ceviche but found the dish to be so mild that it became a bit boring. Next we had the Salmon and the Halibut but both fishes were served in sauces that had a distinct sweet note that we didn't think paired nicely with the fish. Please do this restaurant. It is a great place in a perfect location and we will likely return but order different items.

Good food but not accommodating

By Jessica K |

The staff obviously care about food a great deal and are exceptionally knowledgeable. The menu feeds to a specific palette and the staff are unwilling to waver from their six-item dinner menu (for example, refused to serve their renowned deviled eggs because it was not on that evening’s menu). The prices seemed quite high for the portions and we left still hungry and having spent over $150 between us. I will not return. If you are not concerned about cost and enjoy seafood and culinary elite creations, this place would likely meet your expectations. For us, it fell short of filling us up and offering options.

Skip it

By PismoLulu |

This was our only somewhat disappointing meal in Seattle. It was fine, but with so many choices in this city, I’m sorry we came here. The menu is a little weird (eclectic, avant-garde, whatever...) and pretty pricy. The location is hard to find (even though it’s in the market) and the space itself (once you find it) is snooze worthy. Won’t go again.

Matt-iculous dining experience

By StevenAllen |

Advice to visitors to Seattle: make reservations NOW. Matt's along with Sushi Kashiba were the culinary highlights of out trip. We wife had a burrata salad that was heavenly, followed by a celestial seafood stew. Generous servings in both cases. I went for the little gem salad and the salmon; both were delightful. Great service. Some tables have great views of the market. Will definitely be back if I am ever in Seattle again.

Great ambience and incredibly good food!

By bbitsi00 |

This is a gem of Seattle’s Pike Place Market. We were fortunate to have met the chef Matt at the Starbucks Reserve and he invited us to the restaurant. Apart from sending us some special appetizers made specially for us, we ordered the specialty fish that was fresh and incredibly tasty. The cocktails were delicious and hit the spot! Desert was outstanding. This was our favorite restaurant in our entire week’s visit to Seattle. Do not miss it, if you are a visitor!

Delicious food, friendly atmosphere!

By Candi M |

Small space, big taste, friendly servers and a bar tender that actually 'tends' to his patrons. Up some stairs across from Pike's Market we sat at the bar and delighted over the deliciousness of the food. Nice, low key space. reservations recommended but we only waited about 30 mins.

They either burn it or barely cook it.

By This_Parrot_Is_Dead |

This restaurant has received generally very positive reviews - something that made us go. It’s well positioned, the decor is good, but, frankly, that’s where the plaudits end. Schweppes tonic for your gin, sir? No thanks, I’d rather not. Especially when said G&T is costing $13. Then there’s the food. Why do they burn everything they serve with the main attraction? Don’t get me wrong, my steak tartare was great - but it’s the first time I’ve had it with bread burnt to a cinder. The Brussels sprouts with my main were likewise cremated. Oddly, the duck breast was, if anything, under done (and I like duck to be pink - this thing was damn near alive). Is this nouvelle cuisine on a new level? No. It’s carelessness. Don’t go. It’s expensive, and crap.

Delicious

By mtwalker23 |

Hard to beat Matt’s seafood in the downtown Seattle area. They have a fairly limited menu but everything is incredibly well done.. the halibut, salmon and seafood stew were all elite!

Dinner date

By @i_therefore_conclude |

It’s great to be back in Seattle. Every time I visit I always feel the need to visit Pike Place Public Market to pay homage and check on my long-time market favorites. This trip is no exception. Happy to add another superb resto to my growing list of faves! All She Wrote ($16): gin, amaretto, dry curaçao, lemon Bombay Sapphire ($12) Beet Salad ($17): fresh sweet beets with ricotta, marinated fennel, pistachio and mint Clams and Mussels ($23): coconut milk, lime, Thai basil, chili flake - my favorite dish of the night Scallops ($48) with cauliflower purée, carrots, escarole, almonds Seafood Stew ($42): chunky, meaty, fresh seafood with Italian sausage, creamy tomato broth, white beans Matt’s in the Market checks all the boxes for a lovely seafood date night in Seattle. It’s quite romantic and magical to see the Public Market all lit up with less people milling around. The servings here are generous, the seafood oh-so-fresh and meaty. I was constantly pinching and dipping my focaccia into the delectable coconut milk of my clam and mussels appetizer oooh la la I’m craving it all over again… 2nd place goes to the delicious, chunky, perfectly seared scallops! Glad we made reservations on Tock, the window tables were all taken 30 minutes after they opened. Chef Matt is hands-on and very visible in the open lay-out kitchen/bar. Thank you Amanda for your friendly service. They also have a good looking lunch menu. Pix & vids on IG: @i_therefore_conclude

Seared Scallops, Ham Carpaccio, and Good Washington White - An Hour in Heaven!

By Culture812596 |

Finding Matt's is a treasure hunt, you will climb stairs you will hit dead ends, you will wander if it is worth it - Yes, indeed it is! My recommendation to find it is to go to Pike and 1st where the real Public Market sign is over the flying fish guys. In the building on the Corner is a fruit stand and flower shop - in between these is a stairway that takes you directly to Matt's on the third floor in an alcove. The space is lovely - very high ceilings, big picture windows overlooking the water and market, and an open kitchen that is enjoyable to watch. It is a bright, sunny place. The food is amazing, I thought the menu limited for lunch but when I watched the creations coming from the kitchen I realized everything was amazing and would be impossible to choose from. I chose the Chef's special appetizer, the ham carpaccio, with the fish of the day, seared scallops. Not sure how smoked ham works as a carpaccio with siracha, parmesan, pumpkin seeds, roasted peppers, and vegetables but boy does it! The seared scallops were enormous, thrown from across the street at the market :), and delicious. I wanted to have dessert but I was waddling out of the restaurant as it was, what with the multiple glasses of a nice Washington white blend :). The menu for dinner looks even more amazing. The restaurant was packed the entire time I was there with a line of folks waiting. Do hunt for this treasure, it is worth it!

Great dinner over looking Pikes Market

By SdSappe |

The food here was very good, The smoked salmon appetizer was very good, Halibut was tasty, the fish was cooked perfectly, thought the sauce was good but not great, presentation was clean and crisp. Dessert were excellent original and freshly made

Good but not amazing

By Zigett |

Very nice restaurant with friendly staff and an open kitchen where they prepare fresh items. The menu was relative small and whilst the dishes we tried were well executed we found that some of the combination of flavours really did not work for us. It's not cheap either.

Excellent

One of Seattle's restaurant gems. Excellent service and top quality food. Romantic setting at the entrance of Pike Place Market. Great atmosphere.

Keep yours eyes on the bottle of wine , you could be surprised

By Thierry L |

Yesterday i saw the sommelier testing a bottle of wine for 2 customers, COENOBIUM at 78$ , but he pour 2 additional glasses , one for himself and an other one for the waitress. When we asked her if it was usual she seemed surprised that we saw the trick but nothing more . For us the customers was stolen .....

Arrogant Hostess

By Joseph F M |

Our first stop was Matt’s with a 1 pm reservation for four. We arrived early - 12:15 - and advised no chance to dine. We had traveled from the East Coast and had to adjust our schedule to accommodate our local friends. Extremely arrogant, incompetent hostess at Matt’s. (If she’s owner - my apologies.) So we walked into - without reservation - Cafe Champagne. Totally different, pleasant dining experience. Sunlit. Attentive staff. Fine food. Three course luncheon enjoyed w French bubbly.

Good food and great view of the busy market

By Rose R |

It was crazy busy on a Saturday during Memorial weekend. Matt’s was a nice oasis away from the bustle to get a really nice fresh seafood lunch. I had the halibut fishwich with a side of the Manhattan chowder - both were delicious! The place is a nice open room with lots of sunlight. I sat at the bar - the bartender was delightful and also was my waitress. You get a nice view of the pike place market sign. Everything with 20% tip can to about $24. I would definitely recommend this place.

Simply an Amazing Lunch!

By VaBeneSRQ |

During a recent Seattle visit, we met friends for lunch at Matt's In the Market. We had eater there a number of years ago, but moved from the area and have not been back. Matt's always had an excellent reputation for lunch and dinner, and we were pleased to be going for lunch. Everything about the lunch experience was exceptional. First, the location is great and is literally right in the entrance to Seattle's Pike Place Market. It is little tricky to find the access point as it is a door on the side of a large market building and then you have to wind your way up several flights to stairs to find Matt's on the top floor! Once there, the decor is open and lively with a NW Pacific vibe. Great vistas from three sides looking out on to the market. Second, the service was superb throughout the meal--knowledgable, attendant and friendly. Finally, the food was outstanding. I had one of the specials which was a lamp and pork burger--it was a wonderful combination of ingredients and was one of the most tasteful lunch entrees I have had in quite some time--just enough different to really make it special. My wife had the scallops and my daughter had the special salmon sandwich--both were great--prepared and seasoned perfectly. It is the best lunch we have had in recent memory. Highly recommend Matt's is you are in the area for a great meal and a fun experience--reservations are a must for lunch or dinner.

Couldn't have been better!

By Michael O |

Visiting Seattle, we were a party of six, including twin 2-year-old boys and a wheelchair! The Staff were accommodating, supportive and lovely. The wine menu was awesome with lots of Oregon Pinot Noir (our favorite) and the food selections were to die for. The best octopus I’ve ever had! A solid menu, open ambiance, decent prices and warm, prompt service! We’ll be back!

A Dinner with a view

By Alexander F |

Excellent place, excellent service, and food quality, presentation, preparation, very tasty. Important to make reservations, due to Covid there are less tables in operation.

Loved It !!!!

By Pioneer798376 |

My friend recommend me this place so I decided to give it a try the starters and main course were delicious and found the place to be worth

Just Yum :)

By Deirdre W |

Just what we'd hoped for. The food was fresh and well presented. I had the scallops and my partner the prime rib steak. We shared the charcuterie to begin and it was all terrific. The wait staff was so kind and helpful. They seemed excited to offer wine pairings and to tell us all about the area and what we shouldn't miss on our trip. It was very refreshing to be treated so well and to have the ambience, food service and exceptional quality - a very rare combination that this place definitely has a handle on - BRAVO!!

Fantastic Seafood and ambience

By Acoma1972 |

Fantastic place...Very good food like in world class... Staff went over the top to get us a seat, Can definitely reccomend this place

Fancy Fancy Fancy, and surprisingly good

By jambradley26 |

We aren't fancy people. At all. I'll gladly take a couple of dollar menu burgers over a sit down dinner anyway. But I had read that this place had one of the best views of the sunset in the city so I surprised my wife with reservations for our anniversary. Of course the day we went, after having 2 straight days of sun it was extremely overcast and raining. Oh well right? I was a little worried about how the food would taste since we aren't fancy people but I was blown away. Great food, small selection. We had the octopus to start which was fantastic and my wife doesn't normally like seafood. She had the steak for dinner which was perfection, and I had the halibut. I had never had it before and it was delicious. Just know the portions are extremely misleading because my dinner was about the size of a brownie but it filled me up very well. The staff was excellent, very kind and welcoming. They place is small but they cook everything right in front of you which was fun. I wouldn't consider this A MUST DO at all, but if you like fancier dinners and aren't afraid to drop $100 on one then go on ahead!

Surprised and Amazed

By CKNY2016 |

We loved Matt's. Given its location in the Market, we were skeptical but it was not a tourist trap. The food was delicious, the service was on point but not pretentious, and the views are great. I would recommend to anyone living in or visiting Seattle

Quintessential Seattle Restaurant

By wonderwoman |

Whenever friends or colleagues ask me for restaurant recommendations in the Pike Place Market, I always, without hesitation, recommend Matt’s. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad meal there. The pork belly bahn mi sandwich is soooooo freaking good and I always order that when I dine there for lunch, but last week I was in the mood for something different. Their seafood special was seared scallops over roasted cauliflower and a broccoli purée. It was delicious. The scallops were perfectly seared all around on the outside and deliciously plump on the inside. I could never recreate this at home! Paired it with a glass of Greek white wine. Perfection! Great food, great service, great vibe. What more can you ask for?

Fantastic food and cocktails!

By Carla |

We couldn't make a reservation since they were full, but we opted to go at a non-standard lunch time (I think it was just before 11 am) and get on the waiting list for seats at the bar. The host called us within 30 minutes and we had a great experience! The cocktails were beautiful, but we just had some beautiful wine (since it was morning still!). We shared the huge beet salad with burrata, the curry-cauliflower soup, and the fish sandwich. Everything had incredible blends of flavors! Absolutely delicious! The small bar area was charming and the view over the Market overlooking the water was spectacular. The wait-staff and bartenders were friendly and happy to be helping customers! Highly recommend! )But do try for a reservation if you can!)

Very Enjoyable Meal

By allison m |

We had the crab cakes and clams/mussels pot to start and shared the salmon for our main dish. The food was lovely. The crab cakes were fried just enough and the accompanying sauce was just right. The salmon was the best I’ve ever had - buttery and melt in your mouth.

Loved the food, views, and atmosphere

By NoahandBen |

It’s hard to find on the top floor across the alley from Pike Market. It had great food and a great view of the market. I liked the atmosphere. Food was incredible. Seafood Chowder and the Dungeness Crab Roll were amazing.

Quick lunch

By beachbummer75 |

I came based on trip reviews I had expected more seafood but personally I thought the lunch choices were limited - sandwiches some entrees and some mains I ordered steamed mussels and clams Service came quickly, mussels and clams were fresh, soup was flavourful, lots of croutons but the beans had an odd taste that did not blend well with the rest of the ingredients

Great dinner, fantastic locational Pikes Place

By CarrieOregon |

Was visiting Seattle and went based on a recommendation from my seat mate on the flight in. Had the grilled octopus, halibut collar, marinated eggplant and bread. The halibut was the highlight and was seriously good (possibly great), not sure I'd order the marinated eggplant again. We watched the charcuterie boards go by and they looked fantastic. The Greek white wine was a 9+ (out of 10). I'd go back for the halibut and a glass of the Greek white wine. Seattle has great restaurants and this is one of them, especially when you're visiting Pikes Place Market.

Love the location

By ellaroberts7 |

The location/service is great and the food was really nice. My friends had the burgers which they raved about and I ordered the infamous cat fish sandwich, if I’m being totally honest I don’t think having such a mushy fish worked so well in a sandwich. However, I would definitely come back here as the food was ultimately really good.

Way Overrated

By Rick S |

WAY overrated. We arrived 15 minutes early and the hostess/manager? made us feel unwelcomed by letting us know we were early. We were compliant customers and returned at the slotted time. Her attitude did not improve. We ordered a bottle of white wine, which was likely to have been 60*F. Asked for a wine bucket which was proved grudgingly. Ordered the olive appetizer that took 10 minutes. We ordered dinner that when it arrived, two of the four were not hot. The two with warm food finished their dinners well before the warm ones arrived. The food use just ok. Nathalie, our server, was nice, but gave no empathy for the less than acceptable experience. The hostess/manager? never addressed our issues. She should find another job that does not require customer service. We don’t mind paying the high prices, but would like better food and service. We have had many better dinners in Seattle.

I guess we just caught the kitchen on a bad night - too bad for us!

By jfox43 |

Everything went well until we got our main courses. The waiter was good; the sommelier was good; the appetizers were excellent. The waiter recommended the sea bass and it was awful. The dish was a little strange - some sort of peas in a liquid but that wasn't the problem; the fish was obviously several days old and tasted very fishy. I should have sent it back but I don't really do that very often. My wife's scallops were pretty good but we get them done better at our local gastropub in our land locked town. It is just inexcusable that a seafood restaurant in Seattle would serve horrible fish. So I can't recommend this restaurant or if you do, be ready to send back the mains or just order appetizers.

great food and service ..

By sailingnick |

the best and freshest fish in seattle .. well worth a visit .. but book early to avoid disapointment.. every dish was a suprise . !

Amazing Find!

By Terry M |

Matt's was recommended to us by a tasting room employee at Columbia Winery. We made a reservation and arrived a little early. After a short wait we were seated at a nice table for two with a great view of the Chef and his Team in the kitchen. It was an incredible experience from start to finish. The service was amazing and the food was fabulous! We will no doubt try Matt's again the next time we are in Seattle!

Lovely dinner on the waterfront

By Thomas M |

Delicious seafood in a cozy atmosphere. Top notch seafood, was so pleased with my seafood stew and oysters were exquisitely excellent!

Great food, great service.

By jschm50755 |

It's a little hard to find but once you get there the food is amazing. We did not have a reservation but were able to get 2 seats at the bar and it was happy hour. We had the cheese plate, crab cakes. mussels, and the artisan bakery bread along with some excellent wines. All of it was great. A bit expensive but so is everything else in Seattle. Worth going to.

Pretty good all around!

By hogiebear33 |

It's a nice location above the market, serving nice local wines and basic decent food. The crab sandwich was very nice, as was the Alaskan ling sandwich. Nice attentive service too.

Excellent dinner

By Eric_F854 |

Food, view, and service were excellent. Attentive service and support of food restrictions (gluten free). Very tasty food with fresh ingredients from adjacent farmers market. Price on the high side, so better for special meals.

Most Seattle Restaurant in Seattle

By flymooch |

What an amazing night! The food and service (Matt W) were perfect not to mention the beautiful setting on top of the Pike Place overlooking the Market Sign and Elliot Bay. The service was honest, relaxed and efficient . Thank you for making it a wonderful night...Again.

good food

By Marci C |

I had the MP salmon. It was all right could have been a little more flavorful. My husband had the pork tenderloin. I wanted to switch with him as it was so tender. I also had the the blueberry ice cream and that melted in my mouth it was so good.

WOW!

By andyboz1970 |

If you’re in Seattle make it a point to hit Matt’s, you won’t be disappointed. The staff is unreal and have a knowledge of food and wine that rival most 5star restaurants. The pairings of foods goes beyond the taste of the norm and left us wanting more. As far as any recommendations on menu my simplistic answer is YES!! Make reservations way early it books weeks in advance.

I felt compelled to look at everyone else's order!

By Kathy C |

This place is wonderful! The setting is a bit low key and sparse but the views are amazing. We overlooked water and the Public Market. Our meals were great and every single plate I sneaked a peak at looked great. I had a tuna sandwich which was totally different from any other. The tuna itself was white-ish, very fresh and grilled. Spectacular! I wanted to try each entree.

Nice Lunch

By Journey27833015629 |

We had lunch there. The fish sandwich was fresh served with potato salad was very good. The lamb burger was prepared well and my husband had the seafood chowder with it. He enjoyed both. The bloody Mary’s had an interesting flavor, but were way too spicy!

Just dropped in while visiting market

By Norman S |

Basic interior and very pricey, £14 for a half pint of beer and a glass of wine.not going to attract many market customers with those sort of prices.could have gone to the Ivy for that sort of money. .

Meh, felt like a tourist trap

By MattCambell87 |

I had researched Matt’s prior to travelling to Seattle and booked it to make sure we could eat somewhere decent given it is a Friday night. The location is good, but in hindsight I would consider the place to be a bit of a tourist trap that rests on its laurels. Service was slow and with my main course being tepid by the time it was delivered to the table. Food was well presented, but slightly style over substance as portions are small and there were a few aspects of it that were not well thought through (for instance you never get l croutons on mussels/clams as they get soggy which defeats the point of having them). TBH if you are being asked to pay the prices they are charging things need to be perfect and…. It isn’t. There are much better alternatives around Seattle on quality/price/service front and I would advise you to look towards less touristy areas given the city has a great restaurant scene.

Great Pike Place food & location.

By wdh528 |

Matt's is a gem amongst many good dining options in the market. The food is excellent, and not overthought. It is almost eclectic, as we had items like duck confit, oysters, and a Bhan Mi sandwich. All were tasty and portion sizes are just about perfect. The room has a certain charm, and there are great views of the market action and some of the water. Service was excellent, in spite of a full house. Prices are not cheap, but you are paying fairly for service, food quality, and location.

Not the highlight we had hoped

By OneOfTheSisters |

We chose Matt's based on the reviews here but were a bit disappointed. It was very busy and that is likely the case all the time. Service was efficient but a little rushed and without much explanation. The fishwich was good but a bit on the cool side. The green salad came with a blue cheese dressing which we were not aware of - it may have been on the menu somewhere. And the potato salad was a bit too spicy with sriracha maybe? - again that may have been mentioned on the menu but it wasn't obvious. The bahn mi sandwich did not have very much pork on it which was a huge contrast to the amount of pork, ham and bacon on the daily special sandwich. Overall felt a bit like a tourist trap with a good ambience but no views and rushed service.

Chipped plates and salt.

By scott b |

Everything was super overpriced. The octopus was very good but my wife had the halibut and it was so salty to the point of inedible. The butter for the bread was the most salty butter I have even had in my life. I don’t mind paying a premium for excellent food but they served it on chipped plates.

A night of fine dining

By RoyHersh |

We were fortunate to be seated a little bit earlier when a guy gave up his table and went to sit at the bar, allowing us to have the table he was about to be seated at. The manager was very nice about this. Later, I brought the customer a glass of great wine we were drinking. Anyway, the service, the food and the ambiance were exceptional. $25 for corkage fee was appreciated given the excellent wine list and Somm on hand. Our meal was cooked to perfection, the seared foie gras everything I could have expected and then some. Seared scallops to die for, and every other dish was equally great, even a pork chop which was large, filling and tender. I'd highly recommend this place and while it had been a couple of years since my last time there, will keep this at the forefront of our dining choices in the future.

Delicious 😋

By grace t |

Nice choice of seafood . The fried Brussels sprouts is a “Must Try “ Service is good and price is reasonable.

Great date night spot

By thetwigman |

Atmosphere was great, both nicely put together for fine dining, and also the large windows and bright finish make it comfortable for a more casual night out. Food was fantastic, small menu but still good variety and specials. We did not have a reservation, but were able to get spots at the bar; the bartender was friendly and helpful, and gave us good recommendations for both drinks and food.

Nice place, but somewhat mixed review

By tb911 |

Started with the deviled eggs- - They were good and a bit spicy -- a variety pack: pepper relish, pickled jalepeno, tuna salad, anchovy, seared scallop, seared octopus -- they were good, but didn't expect all the seafood. Next up we had a Fishwich, which was disappointing. The bread overwhelmed the fish and the fish was very thin piece. Overall it was bland. The cream of broccoli soup was very good -- the croutons really added to it. We normally delete croutons from soup orders, but the waitress insisted and she was correct. The porkstrami is the sandwich to get. Very good and flavorful. The maple bread pudding was decent for dessert -- the cinnamon ice cream is what made it, made for a nice combo. The waitress was wonderful. Nice views of the market area and bay.

The Seafood Stew is amazing!

By lalagirl22 |

At first, the limited menu (and the prices), gave me pause, but we really wanted good seafood. I ordered the Seafood Stew and it now ranks among my top meals. It was absolutely phenomenal- salmon, mussels, clams, a scallop, and halibut (I think) all served in a delicious thick broth with a generous slice of French baguette. Phenomenal!

Wonderful Dinner and great service!

By tifsterv |

First I wish I could recall our server’s name. He was fabulous! We were there 1/19 dinner 8:30 reservation. Salmon excellent, trout perfect and I had the short rib special. And don’t miss dessert! Bread pudding was so good! Great atmosphere!

Great food and beer

By Mannypak |

Excellent food and a great view of the market. We had two crazy good sandwiches and drinks. The staff was really great and accommodating. We met the chef and talked food and beer with him. There is a lot of talent in this place and their food packs a punch!

Love the vibe on weekdays

By Stempleman |

While I’ve been to Matt’s a number of times, I’m constantly reminded how much better it is on weekdays when they aren’t slammed. Seafood Stew was huge & amazing....grilled octopus as an appetizer was stunning.

Did i order the wrong thing?

By Helen S |

Can't give this restaurant a rave review. I love halibut and have had it prepared many ways in many restaurants. So i chose that last night. It was not good. The halibut was seared in a way that made it a little tough. The fish was pretty tasteless and it sat on top of a sauce with peas that turned me off. The setting is pretty, and the cheese plate was very good. (We were all still very hungry after our small entrees) so ordered that. But I'm giving 2 stars because I expected a quite delicious entree for $40

Good food helpful staff

By ET101 |

Went there for lunch on Saturday without reservation, but I just had to wait for a few minutes for the staff to clean up the table. I ordered ahi tuna sandwich and cider. The tuna is fresh but I liked the most is the sauce! It’s so tasty and went so well with the tuna, definitely not the usual mayonnaise. They also had a good selection of craft beer and cider. Though I just ordered cider not wine, the wait staff was happy to recommend the cider. Overall happy with my meal and may come for dinner next time.

Great food and service

By Helen H |

We ate at the bar on Sunday afternoon, but the views were still great and food and service were excellent.

Delicious dinner!

By Lisa H |

We made reservations for dinner during our recent vacation in Seattle. The only way we found Matt's was a helpful Trip Advisor posting. The atmosphere at Matt's was wonderful and the staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I had a great local beer and my husband had a solid vodka cocktail. We split a yummy Caesar salad and both of us had the seafood stew. It was excellent with lots of seafood and a savory broth. The service was very good and the prices reasonable. We would highly recommend Matt's in the Marketplace when visiting Seattle.

A great experience....

By Ron D |

We went here as a result of a recommendation and had a great time! It is an interesting restaurant, the look perhaps not what you would typically expect from an establishment of this caliber. Note they do not have many tables, so would definitely recommend reservations. The charcuterie and foie gras were excellent appetizers, and we then both had trout which were much larger than expected but delicious! Service was first class - our waitress was very attentive to our needs as well as knowledgeable about bar and kitchen offerings. We will certainly return and can highly recommend

Matt’s is Where It’s At!

By NikkoHenderson_NV |

What a pleasant surprise find. Yes, it is in a very touristy area and like most of the vendors in the area, if your stuff isn’t great, you are not going to survive. The restaurant is in a casual loft type setting but the restaurant staff is knowledgeable, friendly and very serious about their wares. The various fresh shellfish and fish dishes that we had were all exquisitely prepared and were wonderfully simple but delicious. The oysters were locally sourced and their super freshness obviously apparent. They also had one of the best grilled octopus dishes that we’ve ever had. We can’t fail to mention the great desserts and a very knowledgeable, competent sommelier. This is a restaurant that we will be more than happy to return to.

Fantastic meal!

By Irene F |

We ate at Matt's the night before our Alaskan cruise. Food was outstanding, my husband had the halibut which was in a pea sauce that was to die for! We can't wait to return before our next cruise! Get a table by a window for a beautiful water view! Service was perfect!!

5 Stars again for Traveling Chefs event!

By Ron D |

Was fortunate enough to secure a booking for their Traveling Chefs event on 9 May 2018 with Iron Chef Marc Forgione. Everything from start to finish exceeded our expectations. I believe this was the last of this years events, but if you have an opportunity to book one of these, highly recommend it!

A must try when in Seattle

By benooch67 |

Although this is a small restaurant, we were lucky enough to sit at the bar for a Friday night happy hour - it may have been luck or the tremendous snow storm that kept others away! Regardless it was GREAT. We sampled several oysters from the area and the house wine - all of which were excellent. All of the staff were courteous and welcoming.

Excellent service and tasty food.

By SNB |

Stopped by 20 mins prior to our 1245pm reservation on Tuesday, waited only 5 mins before being seated by the windows as requested overlooking pike place market. Service was excellent and food was served promptly after placing orders. Red beet salad with balsamic and olive oil on the side was fresh and delicious. Deviled eggs were quite tasty and surprisingly filling. Seafood chowder was quite tasty with a light but tasty broth and was quite filling as well. The focaccia bread was also light and tasty. We'll be back!

Good place, overpriced

By Andre O |

Place is old and follow the market design, in my vision is overpriced, price for me means cost x benefit. No table towels, mesns a lot for me. We order octopus as appetizer and branzino as main dish, both ok.

Best of Seattle

By Jeffrey J |

Always a top rated foodie spot so we decided to try it for lunch. Be sure to make a reservation. We had the burger and fish sandwich and both were very good. Friendly staff and great view of Pikes Market.

Review of Matt’s in the Market

By sag |

Matt’s in the Market - Pike Place Market. The food is fresh and local the wait people great, but yikes, small portions and overpriced. I wouldn’t go back. I wish them well. I’ll look for better local options that aren’t so hyped.

Tremendous restaurant

By Jody F |

I highly recommend Matt's for the great food and professional staff. Excellent seafood. Can't go wrong with any selection.

Taste The Whole Experience

By kisscop |

Three letters. WOW! The experience starts with an amazing selection of wines that vary from local vineyards to the usual comforts. We has the Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. AMAZING! Next up came the appetizers and we had a little of everything. I recommend the large cheese plate. The cheese selection was a teaser for my taste buds. The dinner selections are perfectly paired with various side that are not meant to be substituted. There is a reason. These selections fit the entrees as if they were meant to be together in Utopia. There is no need for sauces or seasonings as these meals are made to perfection. Your taste buds will be begging for another bite before you finish what you’re chewing. Overall, this was an amazing experience and a treat to remember. I highly recommend this place to any and all people expecting the best of everything.

Great food, drink and service

By Ted E |

Stumbled across Matt's whilst looking for somewhere to eat - the food was fantastic, great choice of drink (although wine a little pricy) and topped off by great service. Thanks a lot!

Great Food, Great View!!

By dsg2keb1 |

Fantastic view of Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountains, and the Market. The restaurant was comfortable, the service was outstanding, and the food was creative and excellent. Family friendly!!

Limited but good menu

By chefbaby2013 |

The menu is small but there should be something for everyone. The acoustics create a very loud space, we could hardly hear each other while it felt we were yelling all night. Our waiter seemed annoyed and moved a bit slow.

Pay for the ambience and food alike

By Globegal |

Matt’s isn’t cheap but the quality of food, service and ambience makes for a winning combination. This is a small restaurant and worth waiting for a table beside the shared kitchen wall to watch the cooks in action, if that interests you. I was able to see almost every dish as it was pushed out and noted the consistency, cleanliness and pride put into every dish.

Not as Good as I Expected

By 3AngelsDD |

We were excited to get lunch reservation on a busy day this summer. Loved our seat along the windows overlooking the market and the service was decent. The deviled eggs, fishwich and Cobb salad were just okay, nothing special. We were disappointed.

Warm, friendly, delicious

By MEMPWR |

While we had read good things about Matt's, we were a bit worried that it might feel touristy given the location overlooking the market. I'm so happy we went anyway, because the atmosphere, service, and food were all excellent. The crowd was clearly a mix of locals and visitors (I imagine that might not always be the case, particularly in the busier months), and the food, while simple, was fresh and delicious. And the view was great too!

Sunny in Seattle

By ekoLuv2travel |

We began with the deviled eggs and some oysters, of course, cocktails for some of us. Lamb Burger and Rueben, Cobb Salad, and Scallop dish, all excellent. The view of the water and Pike Place is great, we even enjoyed a beautiful warm sunny day.

Great atmosphere, Delicious food

By flip52024 |

Had Saturday lunch at Matt's on a weekend visit to Seattle. We didn't have reservations but were able to sit at the bar. The barman was charming and hardworking so it was a fun place to sit. We shared a dozen oysters and a catfish sandwich. Oysters were super fresh and yummy and the sandwich which was served with tasty potato salad was plenty for two. The bar is well stocked with Whiskey and Rye that we would have liked to sample if we had been there later in the day. We will definitely go back to Matt's when we visit Seattle again.

First Class Food and First Class Service

By David R |

We were recommended to go to this restaurant and are very glad we did! Although the entrance is unprepossessing, being up a flight of stairs opposite the actual market entrance, the ambience of the place is superb and the welcome equally so. The General Manager is Ben Sherwood and he gave us excellent advice on what to choose from the menu. We liked the superb food so much that we returned for our last evening and were treated to another excellent meal, made even better by a welcoming glass of champagne!

Matt’s Lost Its Soul

By Philip G |

Went to Matt’s on our last night in Seattle after a three year stay. It was our first time at Matt’s, and we didn’t miss anything. The bartender was polite, but treated us with that Seattle “faceless” attitude. We were nobody, soulless, just moving parts that provided money to where he worked. That is what we experienced in three years living in the Emerald City, and he provided impetus for our move away. The food was bland and nothing special. My Halibut fresh, but tasteless. Our check was astronomical, fittingly Seattle, a city taken with itself. The natural beauty is amazing, but the people now living in Seattle detract from nature’s gifts. A ban on techno industries would help the city return to its roots. Something has been lost. I was too disappointed, and forced myself to walk down to Rocco’s for a last slice and a hug. At least Rocco’s has a heart. Most of Seattle has lost its. Bye Roger, Robert, and Iggy.

Creative Dishes

By Solstice O |

It's a little hard to find this place but worth the search. The service was average and the menu limited but delicious and creative. The drinks were also very creative and good. The prices are a little high for what you get but once in a while for date night, this place has a good vibe and good food that make the price worth it.

Too Pricey for What It Is

By BMacSeattle |

Took a chance and visited Matt's in the Market on a busy Saturday night without a reservation. We were lucky to get two seats at the bar since they were completely booked. The service received at the bar was awesome. The guy was friendly, attentive, totally professional, knew the menu well and made great suggestions for us to try. We ended up getting sangria and it was really tasty. For appetizers we got clams and mussels as well as the octopus dish. All very good. For entrées we got the seafood stew which we were told was one of most of the most popular dishes and we also ordered the pork dish which had a Swiss flair to it. Both entrées were ok. We actually preferred the appetizers more. Entrées range from upper 30s to low 40s per dish. The atmosphere had a rustic appeal to it, one stand out was the fact that we had an excellent view of the Pike Market sign. I probably won't come back anytime soon for dinner but I will be curious to know what their lunch menu is like. Seems like a cool place to go to if you are planning on being at Pike market during the day. Definitely recommend that you call ahead and make reservations for making the trek down because it's a really small place.

wonderful evening

By Hj Travel On |

Great table w/ the view of the famous Public market sign. Food - I suggest getting lots of starters. Huge services. Entrees seemed smaller (but pricier!). The scallops were $$$$ for 3 pieces but because it was so yum, we forgot about the price. The Seafood stew - not worth it. Their clam and mussels were much better - soup base was similar.

Excellent lunch

By Richard |

Visited today as part of a Silversea cruise private lunch. Dan gave an excellent review of how he came to own the restaurant & then he & Matt, the chef, took us on a guided tour of the market. This was followed by a beautiful 3-course lunch with wine etc. Absolutely loved the clam chowder, the halibut & the plum sorbet. Completely recommend the restaurant.

A Haven in the Market

By Jackie P |

Had lunch at Matt’s, luckily managing to get a table at 12.30 even though we hadn’t booked. The restaurant was crowed and hot, but their menus offered a great variety. We were disappointed when we couldn’t get the crab roll. They had run out. Staff were very attentive.

Pick the fish

By BobxxxxCindy |

Great location on second floor with seating by open windows . Friendly staff . The only thing below average were the deviled eggs that were suggested as a good appetizer. No seasoning used in the stuffing. An item, olive, kimchi etc was on each egg. 4 hungry adults ate 5 of 6 eggs. Don’t bother. The fishwiches were huge and came with a large salad. Enjoyed by all. The rice bowl recommended by our hosts and the waiter as a great choice lost my interest quickly. I wouldn’t order again.

Very good lunch experience while exploring the Market

By DeeEss |

My wife and I tried Matt's for lunch while exploring Pike Place Market during a recent visit to Seattle. We picked the restaurant shortly before lunch based on the reviews here, and we weren't disappointed! It was a Monday, but the Market was still very crowded. Matt's is located upstairs in the Corner Market Building, next to sister restaurant Radiator Whiskey, which we tried for dinner a couple of days earlier. (Matt's was better.) We didn't make a reservation and there were no tables available, but they were able to seat us at the bar without a wait. The bartender Robbie was very personable and entertaining, and took good care of us (though he was disappointed that we didn't order drinks :-). For lunch, my wife and I each ordered the Pork Belly Confit "Bánh Mì" sandwich, hers with a green salad and mine with a Yukon gold potato salad. The sandwiches were very tasty, though fatty as pork belly often is, and side salads were very good. We chatted with a nice young couple sitting at the bar next to us, and they liked their food too (he had the Braised Pork Rice Bowl, which I was considering, and they shared the Deviled Eggs appetizer -- I don't remember what she had). A lot of the customers, including the young couple, were locals. The food wasn't cheap ($16 each for our sandwiches), but the quality was excellent and we were full. We would definitely return to Matt's if we were back in the area, and although we enjoyed sitting at the bar, next time we would make a reservation to try to get a table by the window.

Seattle atmosphere

By Mary Ellyn H |

The restaurant was crowded so we ate at the bar.I ordered the porkbelly rice bowl which was very good but immediately wished I had ordered the fish sandwich which was outstanding. Loved enjoying a glass of wine from their extensive wine list while also enjoying an open air view of Elliott Bay.

Yummy

This is on the third floor of the Pike Place market with great views. The atmosphere is lively and the food very good and inventive.

Excellent place to dine near the market

Great place for lunch near the market, the drinks are amazing too. If you sit on the far left side of the restaurant, you can see the Pike Market sign.

A Pike Place delight !

Sam is the man ! We were visiting from the UK and returned to our favourite lunch venue ,high above Pikes Place Market. The food was excellent and the staff were well organised and super fast....Sam is probably one of the most engaging waiters ever ....he really made our visit a great success. Ask for Sam...a new Pike Place legend !

Best Halibut Ever

By I13JAmarym |

I had the best halibut sandwich of my life at Matt's this past Friday. We arrived at opening and were rewarded with a corner window table which was wonderful because within minutes it was full with a 45 minute wait. It is not a large restaurant so tables are close together. Service was friendly and hot tea is made from leaves, not bag (this is huge for a tea drinker). There were non aquatic items on the menu but I only had eyes for fish.

Wow! A great spot to dine at the market.

By Bob F |

I have wanted to go here for years, but never got around to it until last night. I am so sorry that it took me so long! We went for a late light supper before a late cabaret show downtown and just got the charcuterie plate and a cheese plate, a crab salad and a gem salad and a couple of drinks each. Everything about this place from the minute we walked in until we left was first rate. The casually elegant and festive atmosphere, the views, the Maitre'D, our waitress and the bartender, and the food- oh the food! So Fabulous in every way. Can't wait to go again.

Matt’s Missed The Mark

By Rome |

I’ll start off with the positives: the location, ambiance, and taste of the food were all fantastic; and that’s usually enough to leave me a happy man. But for the price of admission that Matt’s requires I left disappointed in several areas: service, portions, and price. Service wise, we were visited by our waiter 4 times: when we were sat, to place our order, once our food arrived, and I had to track him down to get the bill. I would have liked to order another cocktail but we went so long between seeing him that the craving passed. Portions wise, I will say that our mussels appetizer was generously sized, however we were both extremely disappointed with the size of our entree’s, if you’re going to go small on the protein I feel that you should at least make up for it with the sides, but unfortunately that was not the case. We are typically a couple that orders desert but didn’t want to risk further disappointment. The value for what you get here is just not there in either service nor the overall dinning experience.

What a wonderful lunch. Our table was in the southwest corner - looked out right at the Pike Place Market clock!!

Totally wonderful lunch. Beautiful Rose. Great clams and mussels. Attentive service. Nice portions. Great place to get out of the rain.

locals lunch spot above the market

Recommended by a local. Most had reservations, for lunch no less. We enjoyed the deviled eggs and local oysters. The Albacore sandwich was generous fresh, delicious. The clams and muscles, well, fantastic.

Birthday Dinner

By Susan W |

We were fortunate to get a table by the window to celebrate with a special birthday dinner! From the minute we walked in the door everyone was attentive and helpful. We started off with the sommelier who helped us with the wine list then ordered dinner. Stuffed rabbit appetizer, halibut & steak entree’s and shared a very unique street corn ice cream for dessert! This was a memorable dinner experience and would be fun during open market hours for the people watching aspect.

Delicious food making the most of market ingredients

By Oscar M |

We loved this place. Went there for lunch time soup and salads and then went back for dinner. All the food was excellent. Tasty, fresh, healthy and making the most of the local market ingredients - especially liked the fish dishes. Good wines by the glass selection too. Also liked the simple decor and good knowledgeable service.

Seafood stew... the best reason to go

By Martyton |

No wonder everyone talks about Matt's in the Market's seafood stew. It is divine! The atmosphere is very laid back although one can definitely have an upscale dinner. The sommelier provides excellent pairing advise. We also had a starter, the seafood cocktail, that was not that great, but generally I appreciated the small and to the point menu. Highly recommended!

I kind of loved it.

By KCMOMichelle |

I stopped in for seafood but ended up having the 5 cheese board, the beet salad and a Washington white wine. I really enjoyed my visit. I was impressed with the cheese selection (loved it!), but the beet salad was just good, not great. I wanted the beet salad to be something more than it was. It was kind of basic for such an interesting place. That being said, I would definitely go back on a future trip.

Very good food and service

By Dianne S |

We had an excellent experience somewhat by chance. Meaning we had just arrived in town via the train from Vancouver (which meant we started the day at 5:00am.) Our room at the Inn wasn't ready so we set out to have lunch. This restaurant was on our list of places to try but we hadn't made reservations. Amazingly we were able to secure a table for two within ten minutes and this was in the middle of lunch time(we didn't really know how fortunate this was). Our server, Alex, was pleasant and didn't rush us as we wanted to have wine and review the menu. When we started on the wine, I got a text that friends we were supposed to meet in the afternoon were at our hotel looking for us. I told them to head to Matt's. The table for two next to us was getting ready to leave and again, amazingly, it worked out that others waiting were larger groups so our friends were able to be seated with us! The young lady at reception and our waiter were very helpful in making this happen! We then enjoyed a delicious lunch. The Fishwich of the day featured a large portion of halibut that was excellent and the accompanying cup of soup was very good. The four of us were "fat and happy".

Great Lunch Spot

By Chris S |

Even though in the heart of a tourist destination, the food was awesome, spectacular service, and I felt this is where the locals eat.

Great food at reasonable prices

By Logan |

Great unique menu with a lot of special combinations. Ingredients were very fresh and the service was top notch. Only reason it didn’t get five stars is that the venue is tight and does get very loud during peak hours. Otherwise highly recommended.

Brunch with a View to Public Market Center

Amazing experience! From the view, to the customer service and the food was delicious. Hell, even the drinks! Loved everything. I found this spot through Pinterest actually! Great experience and worth the price. Would totally recommend if you want to have some good food in Seattle.

Lovely Lunch

By SkykomishBob |

We booked for lunch at 1:00 and the table was ready on a Wednesday, while some walk-ups ahead of us didn't bother to leave their names, so the wait must have been a bit. The kind of menu I appreciate. Maybe 8 interesting sandwich choices and four salads. With that kind of limited items one can generally count all ingredients being fresh, and good value because they will be able to serve pretty much what they buy and don't have to charge for a lot of unserved food. My wife ordered the fish-wich & I did the porkbelly. We both very much enjoyed our selections. They came with a choice of soups (2), green salad, or potato salad. My wife's green salad was large and tasty. The potato salad was boring to the point I wouldn't have taken seconds at a famiiy picnic. I'll order the greens next time. My sandwich, however was luscious and came half open-face with both the slices of fresno peppers and large sprigs of cilantro right on top, so one could remove them, which was perfect for me as I don't like how cilantro dominates other flavors, and about half the peppers were just right for my taste. The crisp white from Crete complemented my sandwich perfectly, and my wife enjoyed her Cotes de Provence rosé. Excellent service. Food came in good time. Not inexpensive, but good value.

Holiday dinner

By Midge4golfz |

Matt’s in the Market did not disappoint! We seriously couldn’t decide what to eat especially after our waiter went thru the specials not on the menu. We ended up ordering a myriad of items so our party of 7!could taste everything....the hamachi ceviche was fragrant and delicate, the beef tartare was incredible. My fav was the ravioli with white truffle d’Alba....such a treat on a winters night. From my seat I could see the chef working the pass and take such care with every dish sent out. All of the food was unique in every way!

Delicious!!!

By kaj2600 |

This is a great place with wonderful food and a very buzzy vibe! It overlooks the Pike Place Market and water. The menu has a good selection of small plates, salads, sandwiches and entrees. I had the pork belly Bahn mi which was delicious! They open at 1130 am for lunch with a line. We got there early and had no problem getting seated. I highly recommend!

Great view, great food

By Nestacres |

Went for lunch and didn't disappoint. Great view over pike place market and very nice food. Huge portion sizes and good service. The lamb burger was immense! A lot of fish on the menu (unsurprising).

A hidden gem

By Joselin R |

It's a great small place with a great vibe. The host lady was extremely friendly, and we got there without reservation. Many people had reservations; she got us a spot in the bar. The bartender (the guy with a mustache) was the best, with a big smile, working hard, and great cocktails. The variety of drinks and whiskey was good, and regardless of the cocktail menu, he knew how to make many more cocktails. The food was excellent, we had a few plates to share, and all was top quality food and presentation. The price is not cheap, but the service, food, and location are worth the visit. We got here by accident, looking for a place to eat, and we found a hidden gem.

The Best Food in Seattle

By Larisa G |

I’ve been to Matt’s three times and every time it’s the best meal I eat in Seattle. Their Cobb salad is UNBELIEVABLE! Basically you can’t go wrong with whatever you order. And looking over the top the Pike Market is an iconic location in Seattle. Overall a very wonderful dining experience.

Worth looking for

By LAMBSPIN |

Give's open kitchen a whole new meaning. The kitchen truly is open to everyone's view. A little small, a lot crowded, and somewhat noisy, but the food ws very good.

Food took over one hour to be served

By Mireille B |

Food took one hour to come. When after 45 minutes we asked the waitress and told her everyone who'd arrived after us had been served, she simply said we were behind 4 tickets! No attempt to expedite or remedy anything. I had then to complain to someone else who bought us our drinks (2 cocktails, one coffee, one soft drink so nice but not an amazing gesture). We didn't even order appetizers. We had sandwiches. Not returning ever.

Excellent place

By westley_evan256 |

incredibly fresh ingredients and thoughtful pairings. Would definitely eat here again. The lamb was incredible, as was the cheese plate. Skipped dessert and went somewhere else for it.

Good food and convenient to PIke Street Market

By Libby in Cincinnati |

We decided to dine at Matt’s in the Market after reading comments on TripAdvisor. We were looking for a good place close to Pike Street Market. The restaurant is on the second floor of a building across the street from Pike Street Market. If you go for lunch, go at 11:30 when they open so you can secure a window view. It was a lovely day to be near the window. The portions are large so you won’t go away hungry. We had the Cobb Salad, a cup of ham and white bean soup and the fish sandwich. The food was good and reasonably priced. It is a very casual environment. It would have been nice if the server had offered a refill on the iced tea. We would dine here again.

Nice Lunch

Went here a for a quick lunch, was excellent. Kids ate well, wife had to step out for a work call and they happily packaged hers up to go. Tasty and quick!

Locals Know

By Steve R |

You could walk right by the entrance to Matt's and never know it's there. In fact, we were standing right in front and had to ask someone where Matt's was. They pointed and said just go upstairs. Walking in it's a small cool little place with maybe tables, open kitchen, big bar and a definite Seattle vibe...very cool. The service from the door to the table was exceptional and the food was absolutely delicious. Not a huge menu but everything was seriously delicious. Strong recommend.

Lunch

By Kevin M |

Went to lunch on a Thursday afternoon. Small menu, had the heirloom tomato salad which was wonderful as it was peak tomato season. Split the burger with the wife. Beef was good, brioche broke apart. All in all a disappointment.

Never disappoints!

This was my second visit to Matts. My first was while visiting Seattle in 2015, and I had not stopped dreaming of it ever since! Matt's has such a unique location on the second floor of a warehouse building across from the main market building. The atmosphere is delightful and the food is even better. After returning, I'm very glad to report that Matts not only met, but exceeded my expectations! For this visit (with my mother for her 82nd birthday boondoggle to Seattle), I made the lunch reservation weeks in advance, knowing that Matts has a cozy interior with only a dozen or so tables. And I was very glad that we had a reservation, as we saw walk-ups getting turned away right and left (summer weekend at Pike Place Market, duh!). My mom and I were seated at a nice window table overlooking the famous 'Public Market' clock sign, where it's fun to watch the shoppers from above. I intended to start with the deviled eggs (absolutely delicious!), as I had when I first visited with my husband years back, but mom and I were still a little full from our breakfast at Elleno's (highly recommend!!), so we passed and had a local beer and a cider to start instead. For lunch, mom had the albacore tuna sandwich, which was not your typical canned, flaked tuna, but beautiful fresh, grilled albacore. She didn't even offer me a bite. :( But that was alright because I was completely obsessed with my bowl of clams and mussels in a Thai curry broth. With the coconut milk, lime and Thai basil, the flavors were intense and utterly delicious. (I asked for the jasmine rice on the side and was happy that I did, so I could slurp the broth.) I was glad that my mom appreciated Matts as much as I, and you can be sure that next time I'm in Seattle, I will once again visit Matts. Maybe next time I'll have the pork belly banh mi or the lamb burger, but certainly I will be skipping breakfast and having the deviled eggs!

Highlight of Our Day

By Beth B |

We are so glad that the reviews led us to this perfect spot for lunch! It was the highlight of our day in Seattle. The service was fabulous. Attentive, but they did not rush us. As older tourists, we have been to places that “roll their eyes,” when dealing with us. Matt’s staff was very accommodating, and genuine. The food and drinks were delicious! We enjoyed Bloody Marys, Chips and Dip, and the Catfish Sandwich. Highly recommend!

Over-rated

By tasteful_10 |

We made a dinner reservation based on the generally favorable reviews that we read. Our window table had an awesome view of the iconic Public Market sign. Due to an uncharacteristic heat wave, there wasn’t a breeze cooling the room and the noise level was extreme. Although we were seated promptly, our server was slow to the table. The menu is not extensive and I was disappointed that the deviled egg appetizer which was recommended by others was not listed. I inquired about it and was told it was only available at lunchtime and during happy hour at the bar. Happy hour was ongoing when we arrived so I asked to place an order for the eggs from the bar menu to be served at our table which was about three feet from the bar. We were told “that’s not done here” and the server refused to ask a manager if our request could be accommodated. I then scanned the wine list hoping to find a wine produced in Washington State to order. There weren’t any offered. The server brought over the sommelier who suggested we order the one white from Oregon that they had. The food was very good but the other elements of a nice dinner were lacking.

Great place for seafood

By mai3096 |

Been many times in Seattle but only this time found this place. Small menu and wine list, but the seafood is excellent. I had the best octopus ever and a wonderful seafood stew. A nice local chardonnay completed the experience. Will come back next time.

Just a great joint!!!!

I very rarely write reviews…. Just wanted to say that I’ve worked at the Market for over half my life and have never had a more positive experience then I did this evening at Matt’s. Service was top notch and the food was incredible.
