Considering the number of Tex-Mex options in Austin, this place is mediocre in the pack. There are worst places, but there are certainly better. The staff is usually friendly.

We went there Saturday afternoon. Walking in, the floor was full of food crumbs pressed into the carpet everywhere. The Staff was just standing around close to kitchen, just kinda hanging out and they all looked so sloppy and unkept. The waitress who had the booths closest to the windows appeared to be constantly picking her food out of her teeth with her tongue as she attended to her customers. The kid who brought our chips and salsa looked as if he has just walked across the street from his job as an mechanic. His nails were filthy and his hair was in his eyes. I myself chose not to order but the rest of my party did with regret. The chili con queso was just melted velveta cheese. The pulled chicken enchilada tasted like wet dog. The staffs appearance just turned my stomache. They actually affected my appetite. Not all places in Austin are hip and cool. This is one that should be on the health inspectors list. Soon!! Sunday morning breakfast. Great selection. Normal eggs, sausage, potatoes and toast. Others had Tex Mex offerings. Ample portions, good taste and free flowing coffee. Worked for me.

First visit, large menu, accommodating staff and fresh food. Nothing stood out from other similar Tex-Mex. Grandma's lunch special and the carnitas tacos were very tasty. Sitting at the bar, felt rushed.

I was NOT impressed by this place. It's Tex-Mex - strike one. The food was bland - strike two. The service was terrible (slow, unfriendly, not helpful) - strike three. And to top it all off - parking stinks! I would NOT recommend this place.

I've lived in Austin all my life, born and raised and this is has always been our usual place. It's just wonderful. Nothing fancy just great Tex-Mex at it's best. There are many locations but my favorite and probably the smallest (even though it used to be smaller) is on Lake Austin Blvd. They've updated their menu to have A LOT of options but I go for the Regular dinner, the enchiladas are the best. The skinny margaritas are awesome here too!

We were hoping to find a great Tex-Mex restaurant while visiting Austin and we were not disappointed. We went to Maudie's for lunch, and ;eft so full that we skipped dinner that evening. We had the house made guacamole, prickly pear margaritas, tacos, a taco salad, and Maida's salad. Everything was delicious. I do not eat wheat, so I ordered the Maida's salad, and can honestly say that it was one of the best salads I have ever eaten. The guacamole was fantastic, we were just eating it off the spoon, and the margaritas were perfect. Our only complaint was the chairs were very lightweight, and fell over when my husband got up to leave. He created quite a scene! Our service was good, and the restaurant and bathrooms were clean. I would definitely recommend Maudie's.

Maudie’s Catering was absolutely incredible for my daughter’s wedding at The Arlo Event Center in Austin this past weekend! From start to finish, their team was professional, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. The food was exceptional—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about it! A special shoutout to Maya, the catering coordinator, who was simply outstanding. She was gracious, organized, and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. Her expertise and kindness made everything run smoothly, allowing us to enjoy the celebration without a worry. If you're looking for top-notch catering in Austin, I highly recommend Maudie’s Catering. They exceeded all expectations and made our special day even more memorable!

This place is one of the few restaurants with multiple locations where everything is delicious, service is great, and you can count on a good meal at a good price. Terrific Margarita's and still family-friendly.

Maudie's catered a gathering of 50 +/- outdoors. Well set up, some food cooked on premises, so it was hot and fresh. I'd have preferred more spice in the fajitas, but I imagine the milder version is required for a large crowd. Red chili sauce was excellent.

We arrived at about 1830hrs today - Saturday 25th May. There appeared to be plenty of off-road parking, but no available spots. We parked on a side street. Chips and salsa arrived very quickly; the chips were good, but the salsa was runny and looked as though it was 'over-buzzed' in a blender. The spice was a medium im the salsa! Waiter promptly took our order: I just had the Skinny Chipotle Chicken Fajita The wife had a chicken enchilada soup to start, which she said was 'good' and the Fish Tacos, which were 'not interesting - dull' according to her. I discovered the 'skinny' meant 'no tortillas' for my entree, which was very flavorful, but a tad spicy for my palate! Overall, I'm not sure that we'd bother to go nack again for Supper, maybe breakfast. An average experience! Total cost was $23 exc tip. We left a 17.5% tip as service was good, even if the experience wasn't very memorable.

I love stoping at Maudie's on the way home for Happy Hour. One Marg and a basket of chips and salsa that I could eat with a spoon...starts my evening off right.

Cheap and good.

I go to Maudies whenever I have a hankering for Chicken Tortilla soup. Their Chicken Tortilla Soup is delicious, served with rice, cilantro, onion and lime. There is always a hardy portion of chicken in the soup along with avocado, tortilla strips and some veggies. As soon as you sit down along comes the salsa and tortilla chips. The chips are thin, which I like, and the salsa of mild to medium heat. I have gone their for breakfast and enjoyed the Chilequilles - fried eggs with tortilla strips. The food is good, hearty and honestly priced.

Maudie's is always good....any day....any time! The food is tasty and delicious....always consistent no matter which location you go to. Friendly staff and great service. Caldo and tacos are my favorites.

Austin has so many options for Tex-Mex restaurants, this one need not be on your radar. The only redeeming value about Maudie's is their location. We chose the outdoor seating, which was nice. But the chips and salsa set the tone for the rest of the meal. I have had better salsa from a jar. My family shared the queso, which the kids seemed to enjoy, but again, it reminded me of store-brand queso. The Rockin' Ruthann's burrito was flavorless with no seasoning of any kind. Also, I got the impression that the waitstaff would prefer a more hip clientele then we presented. Save your money.

Very good, reliable place for TEX Mex, fast service, food is good, usually a little crowded. Have been several times. Extensive menus of Tex-Mex favorites.

This place was amazing....comfort Mexican food at its finest!!!! I had the special...the cheese enchiladas are a MUST!!!!!!!

I had a buisnes lunch here. I ordered the Tio Chan enchiladas, I love the carne sauce and diced onions topped with lettuce and tomatoes. I ask for queso on the side and apply an appropriate quantity myself. Hold that Ranchero! Too wet, mushes up the corn tortillas. Ask for grilled serranos on top and u are workin on a masterpiece. I am picky, but Maudies caters to customers like me who prefer to customize their menu. They cater to those who want a part in choosing the perfect dish and catering to the particular. Loved this location. CON- sorry, salsa is not showing me the love. It is far below average for an Austin Tex Mex place.

Maudie's is a Tex-Mex eatery that, at least on the Friday evening we were there, appears to be a favorite of local Austin families. It was crowded and a little noisy, but we were seated and served fairly quickly. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Recommended by my brother who lives in Austin and is a picky eater. ..for whatever that's worth.

My husband and I enjoyed the food. His newphew and wife like going there as it is close to their house and they like the breakfast food. I believe you can get breakfast at all times since it is an all inclusive menu.

They gave me a Minute Maid “hand squeezed lemonade.” I was told I could get a fresh squeezed lime aid, but then the waitress explained they were out of the solution. I was wondering if they could define “fresh squeezed.” They didn’t have the ingredients for the margarita we ordered either. The food is simply terrible as well. If you have ever eaten real Mexican you’ll find whatever “Tex” they added made it appalling.

Great queso and margaritas. Food good. A bit noisy, if you like that! Always nice to sit outside on the patio. Try the Strait Plate!

Stopped by Maudie's for breakfast. Prices were fair and the food was very good. The atmosphere was nice & comfortable & the service I received was great! I would visit again if in the area and try them out for dinner!

sometimes hit it weekly, and see others doing the same. really enjoy the chicken soup. margaritas are excellent. breakfast also good.

We ate at Maudie's this past weekend. It was late on Sunday and we had a great experience. Our server was very funny and he explained the dishes very well. We enjoyed his wit and he brought our food immediately as well as the drinks. He seemed very well versed on the menu and was able to explain all the dishes we asked about in great detail. The food was delicious and some of the best Tex Mex we had while visiting Austin. We sat outside on the deck and the evening was beautiful. The restaurant was packed at 9 p.m. on a Sunday evening and the drinks were great too. We would definitely return to Maudie's and the decor and atmosphere was very homey and inviting. We truly enjoyed our evening.

This is my son's favorite place for breakfast tacos and he has had them from all over town. I took friends from out-of-town there for a late lunch as a part of a bike riding tour of Austin. The variety of dishes really helped my group. Some are intrepid eaters and others just want the standards. The neighborhood really likes this place. Expect to wait to be seated, but a bonus is the bar staff will really take care of you. One of our party was pretty "hangry" and the bartender produced guacamole and chips in about 20 seconds to soothe the one in need of food NOW! Friendly staff.

We had a great time at dinner this past Monday. Our server was very nice and the food was very good. We enjoy TexMex and found this to be quite good! The extensive Happy Hour Specials (on Monday) were great - lots of good deals on appetizers and Margaritas. We would make this a regular place if we lived in Austin!

Maudie's has great food and a fantastic atmosphere! My grandson loved the trio dips! The fajitas was very spicy and excellent!

Maudie's is a good lunch stop. The menu has many selections. The prices are reasonable; my lunch was $12 with tip. The food is tasty. It is worth at least one visit and possibly a return trip.

Had a late breakfast at Maudie's this morning - breakfast taco was good, but a little on the greasy side. My husband had Carne Guisada that was very tasty. Service was good. One suggestion to the management is to get rid of the flies. Became very crowded around the lunch hour.

I don't know what that was in the "queso" but it was not cheese. OMG I have no idea what they are melting to save money but it's bad.

We had great meals and service on our visit to this cafe. The lunch portions were just right and delicious. Salsa was very good. Quickly serviced.

My husband and family enjoy Maudie's because there is something for everyone. The dining is very casual and is perfect for families. The selection is large and if you are a carnivore or vegetarian, you can find something on the menu. I love their Caesar salad. Their service is quick and friendly and the chips never stop coming. The restaurant is usually packed during standard hours, so we often go off hours. We are new to Austin and we enjoy the upbeat and casual atmosphere. The have a nice Happy Hours too.

I'm not wasting my time writing a long review here, this place in the Austin airport serves school cafeteria food for three times the price it should cost. It was disgusting. I feel this is a fair review because Maudie should be ashamed that this place bears her name.

Maudie's at the Triangle...felt very young, hip, urban foodie, big town to me. Parking is available, but you have to hunt for it! We ended up walking a couple blocks from the garage. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and I thought the food was excellent. The decor was festive. The atmosphere was lively. Overall it was a fun and enjoyable dinner!

Everybody in Austin has a place they like to go when they need a Magarita and Tex-Mex, my choice is Maudies for several reasons. One they have multiple locations all around the city so no matter where I am I can find my Tex-Mex fix. Second the food is consistent from one location to another. Maudie's chips, salsa and queso always satisfy. The fajitas are extremely tasty and recommend always paying a little more and substitute fajita meat in dishes like quesadilla or burritos. The Margaritas are always thirst quenching. Sure there are better places in Austin for Tex Mex, but the comfort nature of Maudies is why I always come back.

My husband, parents and I ate lunch at Maudie's on a Saturday. We arrived at 1:15. The parking lot was packed and the restaurant was about half full. It was so noisy that we could hardly hear the conversation. Our food and service was about average. We will not be back anytime soon.

unspiced ground beef

Felt very welcome. Their integration with Yelp let us see where we were in line. Meanwhile the hostess also kept us informed and was very pleasant and friendly. We had to wait about 10 minutes, no reservation and the place was packed. We both ordered the Migas, I has the Migas con Chorizo, my favorite. They also had real Mexican Coca Cola, with real sugar .5 ml. Meal was served quickly, maybe five minutes, and the waitress was also quite friendly. My wife and I both enjoyed the meal, and had a nice conversation with the couple near us. The whole atmosphere has a neighborly feeling. PS: We both have lived in Austin, Peggy was born here in 1943 and I got here in 1961 to attend UT. Austin has changed but Maudies has not. That is a big plus in our book.

Maudie's does really nice Tex Mex. Their prices are reasonable, the salsa is spicy, and the chile con carne on the enchiladas in top notch. I would definitely recommend a visit to one of the Maudie's locations while in Austin for a Tex Mex meal.

Maudie's on Lake Austin Blvd is a Friday/Saturday night tradition for the locals and pre-game lunch must do for UT alumni's! Fresh margaritas and good Tex-Mex at decent prices. Happy Hour M-F 3-6:30 - so get there early on Friday night or you'll wait in line for an hour with the dinner crowd! Also HH on Sat/Sun 10-2. Cheese enchiladas are a little spicy - so skip if you are needing mild food. Vegetarian options available. Parking limited - you may have to park on the street next to Randall's grocery store. Eat like a local: frozen margarita with salt - add a floater called Paula's Orange - yummy -$6.25. Regular Dinner Plate - taco, 2 cheese enchiladas with rice and beans $8.25. And of course, start with a queso and chips $4.25.You won't be disappointed! Traditional Tex-Mex at its best!

I really appreciate the Gluten Free Menu here. They will give you a separate bag of chips that has not been contaminated. Terrific Breakfast tacos . My favorite is the Pete's on corn (GF) and Bacon and Bean( Salty goodness) The Beef Fajitas are GF which is very rare in a lot of mexican restaurants. The margaritas are good, Queso is one of my favorite in the cities.

Better go early if you don't want to wait. Good food, good Rita's and good place overall.

As one might find, tex-mex is all over Texas...and especially Austin. This is a classic place for Austin. They have a great burrito and the fajitas are awesome. There are a few of them around town, so the atmosphere varies.

This is our go-to place for out-of-town guests. Can count on good food with a varied menu. They are able to support all types of diets. Recent visit guest wanted a drink they don't have on the menu but they were willing to put it together. Service was great and very quick. Love this place. Very much an Austin vibe!

Maudie’s has the most amazing breakfast tacos which are HUGE and only $3.25 or so each (some are priced higher). I love that they serve breakfast all day. Great chips and queso as well. Lots of food and pretty inexpensive!

If you want a fresh taco salad, try the Powerbowl. The black beans, avocado and pulled chicken make this salad so enjoyable. Get your dressing on the side so that you can season to taste. This is a very popular restaurant. We arrived just after 6:00p on a weekday. We would have had to wait for an outside table, but were seated inside right away. We must have arrived just before happy hour ended, as our first drinks were from $1 to $2.25 cheaper than our second ones. It might be worth it to check on the cut-off time if you're planning to reorder drinks.

Maudie's is so very good! Love their breakfasts ~ the Marfa Stack and the Chiliquiles ~ add fajita meat and that will last you until dinner! This Maudie's has great green sauce too. You have to ask for it, but there is no charge for it; other Maudie's will charge you for it; really nice heat. They also have an excellent Bloody Mary's, which one of their employees actually made and is now selling at Spec's ~ the Fat E; get it; it's great too!

Prices are f’ing ridiculous. A 4oz serving of their Diablo Sol Food was 6:50 which is enough to dip about 3-4 chips. Sorr, but I’m not tipping anymore if they are going to rip me off.

an austin original

Got this tip from a local friend. Cheap, delicious Tex-Mex in laid-back surroundings. Killer enchiladas! Although the place does not have a kid-friendly rep, I was pleasantly surprised by how accommodating they were. Rachel, a long-time server there, is literally one of the best servers I've ever met. (She presided over our group's two table, one of which was kids-only, and somehow managed to keep the kids entertained for an entire meal.)

the staff is excellent, as are the drinks and especially the tex mex fare! I love the quesadillas and atmosphere. right next to an icecream spot.

Great stop for lunch. Food was great. Service was quick. Told us we would have to wait ten to fifteen minutes. Had a table for us after only about five minute. The Fajita Chicken Tacos were some of the best I have every had. The only drawback is the parking is a little tight. The is plenty of street parking if you don't mind walking. Overall a great place to stop.

If you arrive in Austin by air, you'll see a small version of Maudie's in the airport. Lots of people like to start and finish their visits to Austin with a round of their authentic Tex-Mex creations. They are masters of cheese enchiladas and chopped onions with chili con carne topping - a Tex-Mex must. The tacos and guacamole are always excellent as are the authentic Mexican rice and refried pinto beans. The endless baskets of chips and hot sauce are addictive. There are many variations on the Mexican food theme from New Mexico to Arizona and California, but Tex-Mex is a specialty all its own and Maudie's is a first rate exemplar of just what it's all about. If you live in the area you are probably already familiar with this fact. People find their way there at all hours to enjoy the dependably delicious preparations and drinks. If you haven't tried it, make sure you put it on your 'to do' list. Visitors to Austin should include it on their planned stops

Whenever I'm in town, I have to go get the Josie enchiladas - cheese enchiladas with chili con carne and queso! This is one of my go-to places for Tex-Mex. The food and service are always good and quick. Don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. The fish tacos are very good and everything else I have tried.

Add Maudie's to the list of excellent breakfast tacos in Austin. We had 2 - Bean, Cheese & Avocado ($2.00 each), a Taco Gringo ($2.25), and a Chiliquile Taco ($2.25). All were simple, but excellent. The Bean, Cheese and Avocado was my favorite. With 2 cups of coffee, total bill before tip was $12.88.

I had never heard of this restaurant, until a friend asked to meet there for lunch. It is located where 7th street meets Lake Austin Blvd, right behind the 7-11. I mention this because it can be tricky to find and I had to call for directions since it is referred to as Maudie's on Lake Austin Blvd by some folks. On a restricted diet, I was surprised to find so many things that I could eat. The power bowl was yummy! I had them hold the rice and they offered fajita chicken in lieu of pulled chicken as a choice---totally tasty lunch! Cannot recommend highly enough! Get there early because it fills up fast! AND they do breakfast all day! Can't wait to try the migas next

The service was fairly good. The fajita tacos were excellent. The queso here is excellent. They have a full bar and it is kid friendly.

When it comes to Tex-Mex, you're spoiled for choices in Austin: from independent "holes in the wall" to the more ubiquitous chains. We usually go to Chuy's and a friend suggested we try Maudie's---not a good call. The service is slow; the chips are greasy, and the food is very average. We won't be going back. If you're looking for decent quality at a relatively lower price point, Chuy's is the better option, with prompt service and consistent food quality. It's also constantly busy and they do not take reservations.

Maudie's is great. Atmo varies greatly, depening on location - Rob Roy location (360) "Hacienda" is posh, the rest of sites are more bare-bones. However, food is consistently great. Best hot sauce (that's what we call salsa here) in town - homemade & it packs a spicy punch. Thin chips allow you to get the most salsa per chip ratio - YUM! Ignore that idiot Caltex review. Food is great, not bland. I'm partial to the cheese enchiladas, my husband likes to get the Rocking Ruthann or the Mexican Special. Queso is tasty. Margaritas are reasonable & really good - nice balance, not too sweet like some in town. Like most places in town - it's LOUD. Highly rec. for families. Great place to come for Migas for brunch. Lake Austin location is relatively close to Austin Hike & Bike trail.

I love a good cheese enchilada. Maudie's is up there with The Original in Fort Worth and Casita Jorge's in Austin when it comes to satisfying that elemental part of the Tex-Mex meal. Long may their many locations wave.

Maudie’s is a traditional neighborhood eatery - been in the same place for 20+ years, serving authentic and delicious Tex-Mex to neighbors and visitors alike. An Austin icon. Many of their dishes are gluten free to begin with, but they also know what that means and how to accommodate the request. I’ve eaten here dozens if not hundreds of times. Some of the staff have been here as long as we have been coming and they greet us by name! LOVE Maudie’s. You will too. Watch out for the Mexican Martinis - they will kill you. In a good way. Sort of.

Kimberly's favorite is definitely something to stay away from! Boiled spinach slapped in a tortilla with a nasty white sauce over it and carrot slices. We literally couldn't eat it. The rice, beans and queso were fine, but nothing special. The kids' burritos were fine- very average. The place was packed and we went because we had heard good things; seemed mediocre at best, though. I would not recommend it.

You cant go wrong a Maudies, its about 20-30 bucks with drinks for two, consistently good food, great chips and queso. I always get the beef fajita tacos, super delish.

Just d@mn good food at good prices. Great little place, staff is wonderful, solid menu selection. Love the carne guisada one of the best I have ever had.

I really like the Lake Austin location- the Hernandez enchiladas are so rich and delish!

I love the whole set up. A good place to eat and visit and enjoy the bar and sports screens. Love their chalupas!! yum yum

(THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE SOUTH LAMAR LOCATION.) I've never been completely sold on Maudie's Tex-Mex, but my companion has been a loyal patron and I've mostly begrudgingly accompanied him. However, after our meal tonight, we're BOTH done. It seems almost criminal that in a town with such good Mexican food that Maudie's has such a devoted following. The food is not good by most standards: tasteless, bland guacamole, pasteurized cheese product used in lieu of real cheese, lackluster beans, enchiladas drowned in various TV-dinner-"esque" sauces with tough tortillas--it's just all so disappointing. And it can't be the ambiance alone bringing people back: the interior is so consistently loud that conversation is an exercise in futility, so tonight we opted to dine on the outdoor patio in spite of the high temperature of 103°--because it was the lesser of two evils. It seems like most other Austin Tex-Mex icons have raised the bar as this city's ever increasing number of "foodies" demand; Maudie's seems to be content to rest on its laurels, undeserved that they may be.

First do NOT order your food with rice & beans! The beans are from a can & COLD!! The rice was under cooked & terrible. The enchiladas & tacos were just ok. Nothing to brag about just ok so if you eat here I recommend passing on the sides. Save that money and order ala cart!

Ever since it opened, Maudie's has been our favorite Tex Mex restaurant. Lived in Austin at that time, but now just a visitor. However, we eat here EVERY TIME we are in Austin. It is our only MUST EAT restaurant each time. And we enjoy the W 7th spot the best, so feel free to go other ones so this one isn't so crowded. Always moves fast, though, and the drinks are great for waiting. Great food, great service, good value. Wish they would move some up to DFW!

Had dinner here tonight. Second time for me at this restaurant. I found the quality of the food and service very good. This is a local hangout so it is usual crowd with golfer and their families. It can get crowded so go early.

I was excited to try Maudie’s after reading other reviews and getting a recommendation from our friend in Austin that brought us here. The wait for a table on a late Saturday morning was about 30 minutes. This added to my high expectations. Lots of people were milling around our front waiting on tables too. We get seated and our waiter brings water. Chips and salsa (that is too spicy for me) are brought to the table. Our drink order is taken and delivered and no straws. Our waiter literally forgets the three of us after delivering the drink order. I can’t even get his attention to get straws so I go find them myself. A good 15 minutes pass when I finally catch our waiters eye and I asked if we could please order. He gave me a look like “oh geez, I thought I had already done that” - NOT. My husband ordered two different breakfast tacos and enjoyed the one with bacon. He barely even ate the second one. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were nothing to write home about - way too much onion. Our friend ordered migas and was happy. I was never offered a drink refill and our friend had to ask for a second cup of coffee. I could possibly chalk things up to the fact that the place was busy, but that’s a lame excuse since being busy appears to be the norm. I won’t hold my breath before returning here - someone else can have my seat.

It was very hard to have a conversation even though the restaurant was half empty. The chips a salsa were very good even though the second bowl of salsa was so much spicier. There is a nice selection of vegetarian dishes and the veggie chili relleno without cheese was very good.

Loved the margaritas, loved the food! They treated our large group really well. Everyone loved their menu choices. When there was a little confusion around who ordered what the wait staff were right on top of things to make it better. I loved my beef crisp tacos. The chips and salsa were made fresh and well balanced. I'd definitely go back if I have the chance!

Fast service - margaritas are great has a selection of mixted drinks & regular non alcoholic drinks- beef fajitas were awesome nice & tender

Get the Caldo and a margarita: frozen or on the rocks. They use natural chicken and the food is affordable and delicious.

The food is the best. Go at Happy Hour. House Marqueritas $5.50. Almost everything on the Happy Hour menu is $6 or less. Service is fast

As a change from the Salt Lick at the airport, we tried Maudies and were pleased with the result. It specializes in Tacos and overstuffed burritos. We ordered a taco salad and a burrito and were provided with enough for two people getting ready for a very long flight. The taco shell for the salad was crisp and filled with well-seasoned beef, fresh crisp salad and cheese with avocado as well. The burrito as well was very filing with fresh ingredients. The two choices were good for eating in the airport but were less convenient for carrying onto the plane. It is a good value and nice to see have this choice.

Always full of families after kids sports in the evening and friends gathering for breakfast tacos on week ends. A good taste of Austin that certainly won't break the bank.

Very popular (and very bad) local tex mex chain for the unadventurous eater. Very generic food, very generic unspicy salsa. Very loud crowd, very loud music. A bad experience.

After trying numerous Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants in Austin and being severely disappointed, Maudie's showed that there is at least some semblance of good, authentic Tex-Mex in Austin after all. They have good food and very reasonable prices and just about everything I saw them churn out looked delicious. They also have outdoor patio seating, an indoor bar, and plenty of other seating inside. Tip: This place actually has a decent sized parking lot and plenty of street parking nearby unlike many other dining establishments in the area and this was a key factor in opting to eat here.

The morning after UT handily beat USC, the family was looking for a place to grab an early lunch. Went to some of our favorite places and finding long lines. We search around and found Maudies at the Triangle. Service was good and prompt initially. It lagged after our order was placed. I had the PowerBowl. It was good. My son had the carnitas tacos, they were dry and lacked flavor. He had to use some of my dressing to get one down. He left the second taco on the plate, which is rare for a 20 year old the morning after a big win, if you know what I mean. Wife had the cheese enchilada place. It was wanting... Reminded me of the enchiladas at my elementary school cafeteria. This is not flattery by the way. Dont think I'll find my way back here again.

Maudies is the best TEX MEX food in Austin, Texas. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Locations all over town with great lunch and Happy Hour Specials.

It's the first stop we make when my son gets off the plane from Los Angeles- Maudie's for everything Tex-Mex especially enchiladas! Great food, great service, true Austin vibe. Best enchiladas in Austin and I know cuz I'm from San Antonio- home of the greatest Tex-Mex restaurants in existence!!!

Maudie's is really just an OK place for Tex Mex in Austin. The salsa is so-so. The food is reliable, but nothing to write home about. It is very reasonably priced. A good place for a quick cheap lunch.

I love Maudie's and eat there as often as I can when I'm in Austin. The food quality is consistently and friendly staff. Oh, and the frozen margaritas - mmm good!

Great service and food. I had the loaded nacho's which were excellent and can be a meal on their own. My GF had taco's which were excellent. The salsa and queso were good! The guac was a little bland. The service was excellent. At lunch on a Thursday the place was packed and everones dishes looked great. I would return on my next Austin trip!! Enjoy!!

I often visit Austin for business and to see old friends. Maudie's is our favorite Mexican food choice. It is consistently good. The Fajitas tacos are excellent, the breakfast tacos are just as you order them, reliable good service and clean upbeat atmosphere.

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere! A must-visit restaurant in Austin! Their breakfast item (which are served everyday) are delicious.

We had a great beef brisket sandwich in the airport restraunt while waiting for our next flight. Not used to such a good meal in an airport!!

best queso in town,, and good mragharitas too

What can I say.... It wasnt just us. We watched 3 other tables send their food back after waiting almost an hour to get it, the orders being wrong and if it was like ours, the food was also cold. Both my husband and I never got part of our order. We paid the bill, spoke to the manager and left.

We went to Maudie's on 7th street recently. Everything there is just so darn good. Weather you hit this location or any of the other Maudie's definitely go to one of them when you are in Austin. Great food and very reasonable prices.

I often end up at this place for breakfast or lunch. I like it but there is better Mexican food in town. The chips are ok, not great. The food is average to above average, usually not great (but see below). Standard Tex-Mex - with two standouts. The queso with beef in it is great - and very reasonable. The tortilla soup is one of the best I have ever had. Fresh chicken, good spicy broth, white cheese, and served with rice, onion, cilantro and chips to throw in the cup/bowl or not. Their cup of soup is the bargain lunch of the decade (around $3). And if you or a friend or loved one is suffering from a cold or flu - the cure is Maudie's tortilla soup. Atmosphere is very laid back and kid-friendly but good place to pick up food and eat at home too.

Maudie's is a fun place with really good food. It doesn't matter whether you want breakfast (migas are fabulous), Skinny Cheryl's when you are on a diet or full on queso, nachos and enchiladas. It is all good with portion sizes enough for take home. The stuffed avacado is really delicious as well. They only sit full parties because it is so popular so everyone should just get into one car.

You can’t go wrong with Maude’s. Any location seems to always deliver. Great salsa, and the chips keep on coming. Great menu with vegan options as well - easy to substitute. I am always impressed with throughout as they’re typically crowded at dinner time in south Austin. Still short wait. Our go-to spot for restaurant food anytime.

I live nearby so I go quite often. Everything on the menu is good. I like the tamales. Off-peak times are the best times to go so as to avoid a wait. Parking can also be a challenge, as the shared lot is tiny. Casual atmosphere. If you eat outside, you can bring your dog, which is nice.

Maudie’s Cafe is part of a local chain with locations throughout Austin. This is the original location. Liked the thin crispy tortilla chips in a basket (free) and the salsa very much. Had a taco salad. Their specialty is enchiladas although they serve a complete TexMex menu.

We weren’t looking for gluten free choices - just good Tex Mex and we thought Maudie’s was pretty bland and only so-so.

Decent, cheap Tex-Mex.

Chips and salsa - very good. Breakfast tacos - very good. Migas- very good. Service - NOT very good. Seemed like multiple people worked our section, and our main waitress was the weakest link in that chain. She stunk.

Very good! No one at the table was disappointed. If Tex Mex is what you are looking for then this is the place to go. This is where you will find the locals. :)

always a good bet for mexican food, fresh, good service, good food. Margarita (house frozen) very good

Maybe it's a craving for margarita's - maybe it's that I really like their queso - I don't know, but when I want TexMex, I head to Maudie's.

I was looking for some good, basic Tex-Mex food in Austin and have finally found it...though I'm going to have to go a couple more times to be sure. However, the margarita and the spinach enchiladas were pleasing and definitely checked the Tex-Mex box. I'll be heading here again.

Good Mexican, great service and good experience. Lunch with three people so had a shrimp and a chicken quesadia and a beef burrito with fresh guacamole. So a good meal all round. Price good and company excellant. Would come again if in Austin.

It was an extremely busy lunch hour. However, the service was efficient and very polite. The food and drink was absolutely delicious!

Had a great time here with the folks. Food was delicious and service was outstanding. Quesadillas, queso and guacamole were great! Would definitely eat here again.

We sat outside on the patio. Waitstaff was great. Little wait time for our food. The atmosphere was nice. Food was delicious.

i have been there with friends and family and the food and service has been great.

Took my family to eat at one of my favorite restaurants, Maudies. The wait was about 25 minutes. Once seated the crowd slinked outside beside our booth. It is unnerving to have folks stand next to you while you eat dinner.

If you're in the Austin downtown area and you crave fresh mex, Maudie's is a great place, for food and for drinks! We went for a business lunch and had great tacos and fajitas!

This was the first place I ate in Austin. I had the carne guidsada burrito (shown in my photo) and it was excellent. I had a couple of margaritas which were $3.50 during happy hour, and also a beer that was $2.75. At the time I didn't know what a good deal that was for Austin, which will stick in my mind as a very expensive city to eat in long after I leave. Erika was my server, she was super nice and did a great job. Plus free chips and salsa. Kudos!

Although the food wasn't the best Tex-Mex ever, it was very good. The service and attention was great. and the value was good.

Okay, I love Mexican food. Can not help it but I do. I eat it in every city I go. I keep thinking that it is only going to get better. I love the guacamole, rice and beans, hot sauce, enchiladas - you name it I love it. Last night I got the opportunity to go to Maudies in Austin. Was not disappointed. I had the vegetarian chili releno. It was excellent. I cleaned the plate. My wife had carnitas tacos, they were so good, had a nice topping of cilantro. My other guests had the Maggie platter and an enchilada plate - both said they were very good. My bill for all four, which included two adult beverages was under $40.

Not that we don't have enough, but Maudie's is where you'll find your neighbors and their kids. A middle of the road Tex-Mex, nothing bad to say about them, but nothing wonderful either. They're fine.

All the Maudies' are good Mexican food.

Great happy hour and excellent service. Their quest is to die for! My only complaint is that the fish tacos were very over cooked and dry. They were still delicious so I didn’t mind chowing down. Great happy hour apps and margs!

Super good food! Kinda busy place so go in with a patient attitude...well worth the wait. A number of Presidents have eaten here (as well as the rich & famous)....there's a reason - great product! Give a try

Met people. Needed a bit to eat and a drink. Maudi's is a descent place for both. Glld menu and a happy hour that starts at 3. Sat out doors with the grackles and had a couple of margaritas and some quesadillas. All good and we left happy.

Cool space (esp. the outdoor seating), delicious food.

This was my 3rd visit to Austin, so I decided to try some places i hadn't before. Maudie's is pretty good Tex-Mex. not the best I have had, not the worst. Chips and queso were decent, and entrees good but not memorable. Overall solid, but not OMG great.

Great place to get AUTHENTIC Tex-Mex. Wide selection of dishes. I personally always get the Migas Con Chorizo (usually a breakfast dish but I get it for dinner). We all topped off our meal with Flan for desert. Dinner tonight was enjoyed with my wife and our 20 year old (tomorrow) granddaughter. The service was excellent. They also now use yelp to show you your place in line (and the app can be used to make your reservation before you leave home). Maudies has been a local favorite since before I arrived in Austin in 1961 to attend UT. That make me a "Damn Yankee" because I stayed. A "yankee" is some one from the north who visits and goes home. ;>)

Keep Austin Weird. And keep going to the little Maudie's on South Lamar. In a city that has become almost unrecognizable, the cantina-style food and service at this spot holds on to the spirit of good, simple Tex-Mex. If you were out late at the honky-tonk down the street for the guitar licks of David Grishom and the like, breakfast at Maudie's will straighten you right out.

The food was great and the top shelf margaritas devine. Great service and atmosphere. Busy Friday night and there was very little wait.

We all enjoyed our breakfast tacos. Good price, good service, would go back but so many other Austin restaurants we have to try.

I always hear from my friends who go to Austin that Maudie's is a must for Mexican food lovers. Living in Houston we have some great Mexican restaurants but thought I would give Maudie's a try. The place was very friendly and the staff was very helpful. Great menu and good choices (too many good choices). I had shrimp fajitas and they we great, Lots of shrimp and all the fixings which made them very tasty. My wife had chicken enchiladas and she said some of the best she ever ate. If your in Austin and want some great Mexican make sure to check out Maudie's.

EXCELLENT MEXICAN FOOD

We had the opportunity to lunch with our niece here, she's a Texas native and former Austin resident. Wonderful introduction to TexMex food for a pair of New Englanders!

Close to home, best Mexican food in town. A regular place, close to Deep Eddy Pool, and WAYA (West Austin Youth Asso).

We come a few times a year when traveling for leisure. We often choose to eat dinner with friends here on nights after sporting events. Although sometimes very crowded, with a wait that can sometimes be 30+ minutes during busy times, the staff is very good at getting you seated promptly (even with groups of 8 or 10). The waitstaff is a pleasure to work with, and they usual get all of our special orders filled correctly. And on the rare occasion something isn't right, they fix it right away. Highly recommended.

If you love Tex Mex, this is the place to go. The menu offers choices galore, the food is excellent, and the atmosphere lively. A plus, if you're a golfer, is that at this particular Maudie's, (there are a few others), you might see Ben Crenshaw who lives close by and eats there several times a week! Depending on the day or time, there might be a wait to get a table, but with seats outside, and a full bar, who minds the wait anyway?

This place has it together! Normally I get a fajita plate and tamales. And it was awesome. Normally I have a proportion problem (not enough tortillas, sour cream, etc.) but it was almost equal (they use a lot of peppers). Tamales were not dry at all, and the tres leces was perfect. The only reason it is four stars and not five are the tortilla chips. The chili con queso they serve is rich and thick, and the tortilla chips are very weak. They kept breaking. All in all, a must go to place if you're in Austin and looking for Tex-Mex!

Best lunch special in town!!! I suggest you guys order the #5 Mexican Plate (2 cheese enchiladas w/ onions, refried beans, Spanish rice and flour tortillas on the side) order it w/ tomatillo sauce rather than chili con carne, AND try the flan!!!!!!

Very friendly and attentive staff, food was good old fashioned Tex Mex, reasonable price, good quality. My only issue was cleanliness, we were seated at a dirty table that had caked on food and chairs that looked like they had been previously occupied by toddlers and not cleaned.

I lived in Austin for 10 years so when I visit, there are a few places i absolutely MUST stop by. One of them is Maudie's. Soooooo good! I usually get the breakfast tacos but everything is terrific!

Great atmosphere. Staff is friendly, accommodating and fun. Margaritas are the best! Always a must when in Austin. Favorite Maudie's location is on 7th St. and Lake Austin Blvd. Diablo Sol is a great start, then suggest Tacos Al Pastor, or Poblano Crema Enchiladas. Want light?.. Suggest Powerbowl salad.

I have been to Maudie's twice. The breakfast tacos are soooo good! And cheap too! The service at the W 7th location could be better though. Our waitress this past weekend was not good.

We love eating at this great Restaurant especially for Saturday brunch. Wonderful chips and hot sauce and great vegetarian choices too.

Used to go to Maudie's on Lamar, used to go to Maudie's on Slaughter - just mediocre food Two recent trips to Maudie's Lake Austin improved my impression of Maudie's (gained over 10 years) but still not my favorite place.

One of the best places in Austin for Tex Mex. Everyone has their favorite dish, they have great iced tea, margaritas, and good service.

A local recommended Maudie's to us when we asked about a Tex-Mex place. The service was fast and good, and so was the food. Simple, but various, dishes. Just what we were looking for. We ate on the covered porch.

IMO, Maudie's is the best Tex Mex in town. I think they have 3-4 locations now. Lake Austin site is the closest to town. Best hot sauce (salsa) & wonderful thin chips. Great queso (hot cheese dip for you yankees). Love their cheese enchiladas with meat sauce. Great margaritas. Expect to wait at peak times. It's also got a lot of "austin atmo". Very cheap & frequented by Austin locals, not tourists. Think Mex food neighborhood pub. Decent atmo, but tends to be loud. Family friendly

Bangin’ Tex Mex with 5-Star service. Sat at the bar. Always a good place to check to see if there is available seating when there is a wait for a table. Was greeted by Micky…amazing at her job. Started with margaritas, chips and salsa. Salsa has the perfect amount of heat. We liked it so much that Sylvia fought us more (also great at her job). Have beef fajitas and beef enchiladas. Both super fresh and delicious. Came with hot tortillas, rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream. It was ballin! Joseph made more incredible margaritas (also amazing at his job). This is my go-to spot for Tex Mex in Austin. Thank you for the amazing service and delicious food. Xoxo. Delta Variant.

Maudie's does many things right. They serve large portions of Tex Mex for a reasonable price. The carnitas burrito is large, flavorful and the piña pico de gallo is a great compliment to the dish. Also, the cup (which is huge) of caldo is great.

Awesome. Great Salsa. Great thin chips. Cheese enchiladas are my naughty obsession. They also serve a really good (large too) tortilla soup & their salads are Oscar-worthy. There is often a wait, but it goes quickly because diners can't help but scarf up their delicious food!

Late afternoon lunch. Very casual setting. The building is a bit run down, but the food and service was awesome. I went for the power bowl with chicken fajita meat. It was perfect with a jalapeno ranch dressing on the side. Large portions. Skip the sopapillas though. We would bring friends here.

Not sure what the draw is on this restaurant but I found most of the food too spicy. The ranchero sauce was way too spicy. Tacos seemed like a lot of pepper was added. Also it is a very noisy place. Waiter was very good though.

Be prepared to enjoy one of their great shaker Margaritas while you wait for your table: the word is long out on this great TexMex menu. Well worth a short wait and a great value!

This is a very popular spot. The front of the house is crowded and a bit chaotic. They do let you order drinks at an outside window while you stand waiting for your table. The margarita was good. Some in our group had a spicy margarita that they really like. It took a good half hour to get seated. The service is quick once you are seated. I had the fish tacos, the fish was done perfectly but was bland and needed more flavor.

Seated quickly inside on first visit. Waiter came quickly and took drink orders and excellent thin chips and perfect salsa followed. Great grande marguerita and iced tea were delivered and food came quickly there after. Perfect crunchy beef tacos and a chicken super bowl were great. On second visit we sat outside to enjoy the perfect weather. This waiter was less adept and brought a rita with salt when I had said no salt. It was quickly replaced. Ordered the cheese enchilada based on TA reviews , but I thought they were average and I have had a lot better ones. We had a persistent bee and grackle that made us wish we had sat inside.

The salsa is made fresh here at the restaurant and it is fabulous! It has a little bit of a kick and a lot of flavor. The locals warned that sometimes it has a LOT of kick so I tried a small bite first, but the heat was perfect for me. The food all tasted great, the only thing keeping it from a higher rating was the service. Our waitress seemed to be struggling to keep up with her three tables.. We waited a lot longer than expected between drinks/chips & salsa delivery to actually getting food. We were the first ones seated, a good 5 minutes before the second table and 10 minutes before the third, but we were the last ones to get our order taken and thus the last to get our food (by almost another 10 minutes). There was also an obvious bartender change from daytime to happy hour, because we were here long enough to hit both times and the drinks were MUCH better after happy hour started and the new staff came in. I'm sure it was just a bad day for the waitress and the food was great so I would definitely go back and try it again.

I love this place. I had moved away from Austin for about 8 years, and Maudies is one of the things I missed the most. I was not disappointed at all when I returned! Some things should never change...

Hubby and I usually have a go-to plate in each restaurant we visit. At Maudie's it is the Carne Guisada Burritos. The plate comes with 2 flour tortilla wrapped burritos filled with carne guisada (beef tips in a savory gravy) and topped with chili con carne. Lately, the chili con carne has been a bit too spicy for me so I ask them to put queso on mine instead. They are so utterly delicious! The rice and beans on the side are optional, but we always get them because they are so tasty!

The waitress was great, very on top of everything. Food was fantastic. If we lived close, we'd be back all the time!

Fresh yummy Tex Mex!

Maudie's is a social gathering place. The food is average. It is a great place to go and see old friends but for the food, there are, in my opinion, better TexMex places in Austin.

We sat there waiting Sunday night for at least 15 minute before being greeted by our server - who then wanted to take the appetizer, drink, and dinner order all at once. I asked him to come back after he dropped off our drinks. Someone else dropped off our bar order and laughed and said they all help each other out.... Much, much later he took our food order and someone else brought that out too. As if I was not already getting upset at the lack of timing, he turned around the pay and tip handheld machine in my face... And I was not the one paying. I needed my glasses, and he put it waaay too close to my face but I don't think I saw a 15 percent option. He had to reach over my daughter to have my husband tip and sign. As if the service was not bad enough the hand held bill machine was Awful. As close as is to my house, I will go somewhere else for subpar Tex-Mex and overpriced Magaritas. Get rid of the hand held check out machine - ugg.

They get 3 stars for pork tamale breakfast tacos. Everything else is garbage...

Love this place. One of my favorites in Austin! Good queso. Love the enchiladas, fajitas, quesodillas and almost everything on their menu.
Best enchiladas in town! This is one of our favorite places for mexican food. Great margaritas, too!
Best enchiladas in town! They are delicious and swimming in the fabulous sauces that Maudie's makes. This is one of a favorites places to eat Tex Mex. Great margaritas, too! Friendly staff.
