A small eatery specialising in Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork and Chicken. The ribs come in two styles, Baby back and St Louis style and are delicious. Sadly the brisket and Pulled Pork were somewhat dry. They also have a good range of beers on tap

Too much fat on the meat. Other folks had better cuts on their plates. Don't think I will go back. The sandwiches looked great. Small neighborhood joint.

My family LOVES BBQ, but I have to admit it was hard finding a place in LA that had the smokey goodness that you find in southern BBQ and have often been disappointed by trying places that claimed to be "famous" or "the best." So, it was with some trepidation that we decided to give this place a go. I think we got the Little BBQ which was just right for our group of 8. We probably should have eaten less but it was so delicious. The meat was so smokey and savory and served with the sauce on the side not slathered on like some places do to cover up the fact that there wasn't actually any flavor. My favorites were the baby back ribs and the surprisingly the chicken which was moist, smokey and so flavorful. That said, the pulled pork (again, sauce on the side) and tri-tip weren't far behind. They had run out of tri-tip but as we have been back SEVERAL times since, I managed to get in on that action and was not disappointed. As for the sides, the cornbread muffins served with honey and butter were a hit with everyone (especially the kids). The potato salad and coleslaw were outstanding (and I'm not generally a huge fan of either). The best side dish were the collard greens which were still green but flavored with meatiness. One could say that the meat to veggie ratio was on the high side but that is a minor complaint. I'm not a baked beans person but people seemed to really enjoy them. I think the least impressive side was the mac and cheese...it was fine albeit on the bland side, but the kids seemed to like it a lot. The staff are friendly but not overly solicitous--just some real down home BBQ people.

Enjoy really decent BBQ and great classic rock too ... the service is friendly and gracious. The sides are awesome too. Nice casual dining.

I'm gonna go on record and lay it down. Coppertop better watch their back. Here's the conundrum, how do they do it. The heart of dark crispy glazed yet moist and juicy inside. And the flavor so perfect as to be sweet and savory. All you could hear as we devoured Weakness was mmm mmm mmm mmm

We are very particular people about our BBQ, with one of us being from NC and two of us being previous Kansas City BBQ judges. This was a birthday dinner. Service was great! Wine and beer served right away, with the right amount of wait for a BBQ meal. I ordered the brisket, the mother of all BBQ, and it was very tender. It is hard to "hold" barbeque, but this brisket was still very tender and juicy. A winner. Others in the group had both types of ribs, the St. Louis was really good. My least favorite was the pork, which I thought needed more smoke flavor, but our NC birthday person loved it. The potato salad was excellent!

This place has something for everyone to include vegan options. But if you are in the mood for BBQ, you will not be disappointed. I had the pulled pork, and it was, excellent. The coleslaw and beans were a great compliment, and the cornbread was very tasty and homemade. We had a party of 6, so finding a place to sit was a challenge. Luckily they have additional tables outside at the back of the restaurant. Parking is available behind as well. Good choice of craft beers, and numerous other beverages. Very good pricing, we spent about $70 for the six of us to eat. And the portions are a good size, but come hungry so you can enjoy everything. This is my second trip, and I will definitely return next time I'm in town.

My husband, son and I were craving good BBQ - and Max City BBQ makes this and more. The BBQ was amazing - tender ribs, melt-in-your-mouth brisket, but that was not all. The side dishes were outstanding - which is unusual in a BBQ place. I had a mixed plate of ribs and brisket, my husband and son had chicken and we shared around. I'm planning to take my dad and mom here soon.

I've tried different BBQ places in the area, when I found this little gem I couldn't believe how good it was. The cucumber salad is amazing, the smoked BBQ chicken is moist and of course the BBQ beans. I love this place. I've been there twice and it is a drive for me to get there but I can't stop thinking about how good it is. If you get a chance try out the pies they are made there and are good.

I am fortunate to travel all over the u.s. and this place is easily one of the best I have been to in the last year. Food was excellent. Service was great. Very cozy and clean.

Hooked on this place.Excellent BBQ meats, with delicious sides.Cornbread seals a great meal.Brisket is beautiful.

Best BBQ in the area! We love their brisket grilled cheese sandwich that is unfortunately only available during happy hour. We like the pulled pork and the sausage best. The cornbread is sweet like a dessert. Service is great and they have a tv if you want to catch some sports!

We just got home from max city and I couldn't wait to write a review. Max city was outstanding! We sat in the patio with our little dog, it was a beautiful evening. The server took our order promptly and then brought our puppy a bowl of water. The order did take some time but it was worth it. (They were very busy) we had the meat your match, brisket, ribs, collard greens , mac and cheese and cornbread. It was all so tasty! It tasted like homemade, with all the love and care. The brisket was so tender and not at all salty. The ribs Smokey and flavorful. Mac and cheese, so cheesy, collard greens, perfect, a hint of sweetness, and corn muffins that were not dry! Loved everything, will definitely be back!

The place is cozy and it has an indie vibe. the food is great and the service is fast and friendly. I would definitely eat there again.

Decided to check this place out with my boyfriend, and my mom. Atmosphere was great and so was the customer service. Food was good, meat was too dry for my liking. I really liked the cucumber salad, and Mac and cheese.

Excellent BBQ with homemade fixin's. Super Service and an excellent variety of local brews. *Note - I frequently see the Fire Dept parked there for an early lunch......

Went with a group of five and found an end of the bar spot to sit. We were immediately greeted with a warm smile and welcome. We were given the standard menu and specials speech, and we asked what she thought was good. She told us what she always ordered, but also what she thought was the best deal, so we tried it. The beef was great, the pulled pork was great, the sides we chose turned out too tasty, including the Mac and cheese and the baked beans in a terrific sauce! We all tried the beer on tap and were pleased that we did. Recommend the tri tips, they were awesome!

Max City is the hottest new spot in Eagle Rock. I love barbeque and I can tell you, this is one of the best I’ve tasted. The menu is for meat lovers: wood-smoked, southern-style slow-cooked ribs, pork, brisket, tri-tip and chicken. Among the sides are comfort food classics including mac & cheese, collard greens, coleslaw and corn bread. Pies are homemade; they look like they’re straight out of my oven. The menu also offers sandwiches, salads, combination plates and take-out that can feed anywhere from two people to a large crowd. The best thing about Max City after the mouth-watering food is the price and the portions. Platters come with two sides and corn bread. They also have a kids plate for $6.00 Catering services include both fully staffed events and drop offs. Chef Jason MacDonald and his wife Melanie Blair had a local catering company that expanded so much they decided to open this homey, corner restaurant. Their partner John is the best host ever. There is a small outside patio, chairs at the bar and tables. Park in the lot or on the street.

Enjoyed great BBQ at this Eagle Rock spot. Parking can be a bit tight, but well worth circling the block! Super tender brisket and pulled pork.

Me and my mate found this place on the "best BBQ in La". It closed at 9pm and we got there about 815, so we thought that we would be rushed etc. But very friendly waitress and food came out quickly. Incredibly tasty meat, I had chicken and ribs and my mate had the brisket which fell apart in your mouth! Service was great and very helpful helping us find places to go out afterwards! Would highly recommend but it is in a random area about 8 miles from downtown?

As an avid BBQ'er myself, this is the best restaurant BBQ I think I have had in Los Angeles. The sliced brisket is excellent and the pulled pork is also incredibly good. I have never had anything here that was less than very good. For sides I really enjoy the cucumber salad and the baked beans.

Went here with family on their recommendation and was surprised that it was so small. Size does not make up for the good BBQ that they served. I am used to Southeastern styles of BBQ and this placed served a different style, but it was very good. Nice staff with excellent service.

I was impressed with this tiny little place. Mostly classic BBQ menu, with a good beer selection (and flight option). Loved the mac & cheese (no yucky velveeta style) and the nicest little green side salad I've ever had from a BBQ place (most don't even serve green salad! Brisket was flavorful, but not as tender as I've become accustomed to brisket being (Austin, TX has set the bar high!) nice side sauces. Sad they were out of pie when I visited, but I'll be back & looking forward to trying their ribs and pulled pork!

I love going here for the lunch specials which include a meat (ribs, tri tip, pulled pork), two sides and cornbread. The pulled pork was tender and smoky. I got the baked beans which were smoky and sweet with chunks of pineapple for sweetness, and the mac and cheese was rich and cheesy. The cornbread was just how I like it: a crunchy and chewy crust and a sweet buttery inside with bits of corn throughout. The portions are generous enough that I can take home leftovers. I've even seen people split plates. Loved the watermelon lemonade but I think it's seasonal. Beer also available. Service was attentive and our waitress offered separate checks without me asking which was unprecedented in all my experiences in dining out. The parking isn't so great. Some street, a couple spots in the back, and there's also the neighborhood down the street. It also has a "hole in the wall" feel. There's a bar and not more than 10 tables, so it's not great for big parties. I'm willing to turn a blind eye to that though for some great bbq.

A friend told me about this place and I am so glad she did. I usually don't eat ribs, especially when I am out, because they are just too messy. Since it is the time of curbside pickup we gave it a try and fell in love with their ribs. I like that it is served as a rub, with sauce on the side. My hubby loves the sauce, I like the rub. The corn muffins are from Homeboy, so that only boosts my appreciation of this restaurant. (Homeboy for those who don't know is a restaurant started by Father Doyle to help young people get jobs and out of gangs or just out of jail. Their food is delicious.) The sides are great, too.

Best BBQ Grill in Highland Park. Try the Pulled Pork and the Ribs. Love it and will come back in the next days.

Very nice, small and cozy BBQ-spot in Eagle Rock. Good, reasonable prices food, good beer and very friendly staff

We tried a late lunch. Unfortunately they were out of half of the normal meats for the BBQ. We tried a Weaknees and substituted because they were out of tri tip and brisket. Not cheap, all things considered. But it was good, tasty fare. Drinks were reasonably priced.
Picked up take out
Very good brisket, reminded me of Texas, the slaw, beans and mac&cheese are all great, only thing is its not like Texas ,where you order a 1/4 pound of this and a 1/4 pound of that, and its only a few dollars.... the price isn't cheep but I think it's well worth it.
