Christmas dinner

By Dallastfc |

I'd give this dump zero stars but can't do that ! We walked in and the " bartender " couldn't get half the drinks right ... he seemed lost and was incredibly slow ... literally made the wrong drinks , but in xmas spirit we were pleasant... then dinner came along and what a fiasco! No water after multiple requests and finally nasty " dish water "... food cold , delayed and stale , my wife's dish forgotten, the waiter belligerent and aggressive when asked about forget meals, drinks , nasty water , etc ! This place is horrendous ... never again will I waste my time or money on this dump ... the night before my wife and I had an amazing meal at Papas steak house and left $100 tip after $500 meal ... today at may dragon spent around $80 and I refused to leave even a penny at this garbage barge! Run away from this dump!

Great Chinese - Deep Flavors

By PMLJohn |

I had the opportunity to try May Dragon on my last night in Dallas. I was pleasantly surprised. I went in and ordered to go. I will admit that I was a bit put off by the demeanor of the person assisting. He was not Chinese, and seemed distracted and a bit annoyed. Not sure what that was all about. The owner's wife came in after I had ordered, and she was beyond pleasant, making certain I had been helped and that made me feel way more welcome than the dude at the counter did. But enough of that. I ordered the beef sticks and spring rolls from the appetizer menu, and the Generals Chicken for my entree. I enjoyed the beef, finding it tender and well flavored. The spring rolls, while crispy and hot, seemed a bit too full of large cut cabbage, which made them a bit difficult to eat. The Generals Chicken was a surprise to me. When I opened the container, I was prepared to be disappointed. The sauce looked way too red and the smell made me think it would be very spicy. I was ready to regret my selection, until I put the first piece of chicken in my mouth. I actually expressed out loud, my amazement at the flavor profiles. Not too sweet and not too spicy. The chicken was perfectly cooked. The breading was not heavy. The flavor and heat, just perfectly balanced. I will order that entree again, in a heartbeat. My only issues with this place was that it was a few dollars more than other Chinese locations in the area. That did not result in more food, just more money paid out. But all in all, the food was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and that is really all that matters. Good job Joe!! And even though I am not a Republican voter, good luck on your Congressional run!

Crispy Duck is good... Service is great

By KarenKayR1968 |

We had the Combination LoMein (chicken, shrimp, beef and pork) large portion, so plenty for leftovers which were even better the next day. Crispy Duck was good - chopped so there were a lot of little bones so be careful. Crab Rangoon was different, just in a wonton wrapper and not much crab. Tea was great and service was outstanding.

GREAT Chinese Restaurant!

By Courtney R |

This is the best Chinese restaurant we have had in a very long time! Great service! We will definitely be back here!

Awful and rude service

By threeboys1 |

Slow service maybe they were understaffed. Our waiter was as rude and treated ya like we were a true inconvenience to him. Didn’t get our order right and said that those were spring rolls. Tough attitude. He made faces and answered questions as if we were wasting g his time. We have been coming here for years but this will be out last time. Taking it off the list.

Disappointment

By Laurie D |

It is hard to find a Chinese restaurant in Dallas that still has a menu from which to order. The May Dragon is one of these. I went with a friend for lunch. I ordered chicken broccoli and my friend ordered beef curry. Included with that was soup, an egg roll and a choice of fried or plain rice. The waitress came to our table immediately for our order and returned two more times for our order before we had an opportunity to decide what we wanted. To say that the food came quickly is a misstatement. Our soup arrived, and before we had eaten half of it, our plates arrived and we had to move the soup to the side. I found the chicken broccoli on the par with the same dish I have gotten on a self serving line, okay, not great. My friend said, "I thought the spring roll was greasy, the fried rice bland & the curried beef had a bitter taste. I can definitely say the best part of the meal was the company.  You are right the wait staff was not the best." I concur with her evaluation. The difference between fried and boiled rice was some soy sauce. I was more bothered by the string of people who came by and stood next to or around our table. The waitress checked the folder for our payment twice, then the manager stood and looked at us a while. I felt we were getting the "bum's rush", and it wasn't like we were keeping others from being seated. I would not call this a place to bring someone for a catching up lunch, actually, I wouldn't call it a place to go back to. I had heard this was a good restaurant; I was terribly disappointed. Two stars at most.

26 Years of Great Service & Food!

By Denise A |

I have lived all over the world, and this is one of my favorite restaurants. Great details are taken to make this an elegant restaurant. Linen table clothes, waiters that know how to serve the customers and you know that they are happy to see you. My girlfriend & I went for an early lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was quiet. We started with the hot & sour soup, fantastic! I had the Shrimp in a black bean sauce that was spicy and great, along with fried rice. She had the shrimp eggfoo young. Yummy! The ambience, the quality of the food and service has kept this restaurant, "a 5 Star". Joe & his family are a delight. I didn't know Joe was running for Congress. Good luck and continued success to you and your family. If you are used to a buffet style restaurant, you would be surprised to learn that the food, service, hospitality and the price outshines the typical Chinese restaurant. Here's to another 26 years! .

I've had better delivery

By goddess0063 |

Just because the owner has his picture taken with celebrities and Presidents doesn't mean his restaurant serves good food. The restaurant is attractive. The staff is friendly and the service is fine. But the food itself is on a par with delivery Chinese. We were with a group. Everyone ordered a regular meal and only one person ordered egg rolls, which looked very oily when they were brought to the table. Every meal claimed on the menu to come with soup, rice, fortune cookie, and hot jasmine tea. NONE of us were offered, or given the tea. I didn't really realize that lapse until we were paying the bill (which had a 20% gratuity already added...AFTER tax!). We got our soups - mine being a very stodgy and NOT spicy hot and sour. Nothing was wrong with it as I've had the exact same one a gazillion times before so I ate it. I initially ordered the Sizzling Salmon in Ginger and Scallion. Right when they were about to bring all the dishes out I was told they were out of salmon. So I ordered the Garlic Prawns, changing out the vegetable in it to green beans. Miraculously it came out along with everyone else's food 2 minutes later. Tells me how "fresh" everything is.... But the shrimp (not really prawns) were cooked just right and the green beans were fine. None of it thrilled me and I thought the sauce was too salty. Hubby ordered the Szechuan Beef, which was chock-full of shredded celery and very little beef. I looked on as the others at the table ate their General Tso's chicken or sweet and sour chicken...I couldn't tell them apart and both looked gross to me. I have a migraine today and that tells me that perhaps their "NO MSG" on the menu might not be so true. I knew going in that we weren't going to get an exciting meal like we could get at some of the more interesting Chinese restaurants (mostly in Richardson) but I was really hoping for something better than the Americanized gloppy Chinese delivery. Sadly, that's exactly what we got, only costing twice as much.

Nice Lunch for about $12

By James S |

We had a nice lunch with two other co-workers here. Good lunch menu and most entrees are about $12. Very nice dining experience for business meetings. The lighting is a little dim and romantic, lol, but we enjoyed the lunch

Great Place to Enjoy a leisurely dinner with friends

By chuckbianco |

We really enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this restaurant and the great way the staff spreads out the guests so no one is that close to another party. Be prepared for large portions of great food, starting off with your choice os soup. We spent 3 hours enjoying or dinner with a nice glass of wine and with no pressure from the staff to hurry us up.

Delicious Fresh Food in a Beautiful Setting

By Beth D |

This is a large restaurant but the staff were unhurried and efficient. The food is fresh, prepared without MSG and tasty. Loved the egg drop soup. The complimentary crispy noodles were perfect and the spring rolls were fried perfectly without being greasy. They have a nice selection of lunch specials and house specialties.

Love this Place!

By Princess_Ronna |

Took my date here and he fell in love with May Dragon just like I did 6 years ago on my first visit! Our meals were fantastic plus had enough to take home for breakfast! Cannot wait to come back to the States to enjoy American Chinese again!!!!! Yum!!!!

Pleasantly surprised

By bobj98 |

We went here with a groupon but after reading some of the reviews we were left wondering if we had made a mistake. Nothing could be further from the truth. The service was excellent, all our meals were great (5 different platters),nice ambiance. highly recommended. The prices were reasonable and were made even better with a groupon.

Good food and good ambience

By reachsree |

We went to the May dragon for a team lunch. I liked their ambience a lot. Each party seemed to have their own space to sit in without getting disturbed by others. I ordered a Shirley Temple which was really good. Their hot and sour soup and free appetizer were good. I tried their schezuan chicken and fried rice. Both of them were really good as well. On the whole a pleasant experience.

What an awful place

By ASTOR001 |

As part of leaving party for some friends returning to the UK after 4 1/" years living in Dallas, I was bitterly disappointed at the woeful quality of service we endured. We waited an hour for drinks to arrive - some of the appetisers didn't turn up (yet they still attempted to charge us for them!) and the staff can only be described as totally disinterested. I can't comment on the food - mine didn't turn up(!) - and as a consequence of this abysmal service, we left without ordering entrees and enjoyed an excellent meal elsewhere. No attempt to appease our disappointment was seen in the bill and I would recommend you think very carefully about ever eating here - undoutedly the worst service in Dallas.

Christmas night comedy (of errors)

By DallasAyrUFan |

A very unfortunate evening that could have been avoided with a few simple words when asking if we could make a reservation..."so sorry, we are fully booked." Instead, we endured a 35 minute wait to get seated, a 20 minute wait to get water (our one and only glass of the night) and another 20 minute wait to order our food. When we finally received our food (another 25 minutes), sadly it was so-so (we've been before and it is generally better). Obviously being one of only a small number of restaurants open on Christmas explains being unusually busy BUT the experience was so bad, many of the people waiting with us in the crowded bar by the door ended up leaving to go somewhere else. Our one server was trying his best and it was not his fault things took so long. The part that was frustrating was the lack of planning or thought put to staffing. Had the food been outstanding, I might have overlooked the challenge brought on being open on Christmas but the overall poor experience and little concern displayed towards the customers leads me to write this poor review.

Excellent food and service!

By Peacenquiet2013 |

Used a groupon to try this restaurant and found fantastic food and friendly, attentive service. Every dish we had (3 different dishes) was excellent as well as the hot and sour soup and green tea ice cream. Our waitress was one of the most helpful I've ever run across in any restaurant. Would highly recommend this restaurant and it will be on our "must do list" when we're in Dallas.

May Dragon Review

By aghyba |

Eating with my wife’s MK consultant friends in this restaurant close to Mary Kay. Ordered the steam chicken & vegetables, comes with soup, rice and egg roll. Recommend for a quick tasty lunch.

My food was terrible, others liked there's

By TexasFreqTraveler |

I ordered the Kung Pao Shrimp and it was terrrible. it was covered in a sweet peatnut sauce and was not spicy at all. I was with a group and they said they liked what they ordered. We order a poo-poo platter as am appitizer. it was fair. I tried the shrimp (good), the meat on a skewer (not bad), and a pork rib which had way too much barbecues sauce on it. My rib was mostly bone and fat. The service was very good. The atmosphere was mostly good except for the cold air blowing on my back. We weren't seated close to the front door and it was too cold for the air conditioner. My guess is the kitchen had opened the back door to cool off the kitchen and it was air from that bad door blowing on me. I ordered the chocolate mouse cake for dessert. It was only fair. ti was definitely not home made.

Exceptional food

By machockfamily |

Best duck in the DFW area. May Dragon has been around three decades. That alone speaks for itself. Actual Chinese chefs that work in the kitchen. Whether you are here on business or a native Texan, don't miss this place. My favorite is General Savitz chicken; diced, tender, chicken lightly bathed in garlic with a little spice. The owners, Joe Chow and Chi Chi Lin, always say hello to us when we eat there. Fantastic ambiance, wonderful staff.

Bad service

By James C |

We have going here for years. For some reason the service has gone downhill. Food still good but cannot find anyone to take your order or take care of customers. Hope they get back to the good service they used to have.

Good Chinese; has been around for over 20 years. I'm not a big fan of fried rice, but their BBQ pork version was great!

Food is not bad...it is GOOD!

By belleteterouge |

I do not know about you guys but I have not had a bad experience with May Dragon. They have some of the best Hot and Sour soup, not too salty like most places. Their combination fried rice is the best I've ever eaten! It has everything in it: chicken pork beef shrimp peas carrots. Large portions. Very good. Very clean flavors, not weighed down by all that salt. I like that they are healthier in their cooking. Their pickled cucumbers are yummy. My boyfriend and I have eaten there 4 times since moving to Addison. We love it! I've gotten lunch take out 2 times. SO GOOD. Perhaps people do not like the healthier version of what they are used to eating at "normal" Chinese/American restaurants. *shrug* who knows. And, no, I do not work for the restaurant. I give it an A+ for service and food!

2d Visit was no Better

By Yankeehoya |

I have a good friend who has been going to this restaurant for a long time, at least 20 years. He and his wife rave about it. Of note, he has both gourmet taste and a gourmet budget. My buddy rarely has anything nice to say about any but the finest restaurants. Therefore, when I first visited years ago, I was really looking forward to the meal. I do not recall what I had for dinner that night, but my wife and I had the same reaction --- virtually any strip mall in our home county has a better Chinese restaurant than this. My second visit was worse. The hot and sour soup was quite good, but my general Tso's chicken tasted more like bad orange chicken. It actually left a sour taste in my mouth that lasted for 30 minutes or more. My friend has unquestionably excellent taste. This may be a good restaurant, but I will not be back again. Oh by the way, the furniture and wooden screens must be original (30 years old?) Time for a refresh. While not overly expensive, it was not a good value for even average Chinese food.

Amazing Sesame Chiken. Worthless Peking duck.

By wordthief |

If I was rating this restaurant solely on the Sesame Chicken and the service I would be giving it a 5. This is the best Sesame chicken I've had in the Dallas area. However, my wife and daughter shared the Peking duck. Also, they shared some with me and the boys. No one liked it. My wife said the meat was stringy. I did note that it was not particularly tender. The flavors did nothing for me at all. Wrapping them in tortillas (pan-cakes?) only made them dryer. The plum sauce was sweet and a little pruney. What part was I supposed to enjoy about that? Look, maybe this is Peking duck at it's best and I just don't know or like Peing duck. I've only had duck 2 or 3 other times in my life but I recall both times I found it to be amazing. Not this time. I'm not vindictive but I addressed this with the waiter. He was clear in his answer to my problem: We needed to try something else on the menu "next time". No, there won't be a 'next time' that I blow $100 on my kids birthday dinner at a place where 1/5 people were disattisfied and 2/5 left hungry. The waiter had no interest in making it up to us at all and told me that this is just how Peking duck is done. Hence I have no problem writing a full review. Look - At $14 per plate that duck should have sang. I also had the 5 flavor shrimp. The sauce was too sweet. No thanks. Back to the sesame chicken. It was amazing. How sad.

What Went Wong? Worst Restaurant Experience of my life.

By Adventure14573 |

What went wong?? Tried to eat at the May Dragon on Friday 29 Oct 05 as part of a group of 18. We had had a reservation booked for several days. At first the unbelievable poor service was mildly amusing, several references to Fawlty Towers. Many prompts to the head waiter, manager and then Joe, the owner, to do something to improve the service and rescue the evening were ignored. Finally we had to leave after 1 1/2 hours of getting nowhere. Examples of the service: Drinks arriving 45 mins from being ordered. Only half the party receiving appetizers. One menu given to be passed around. Hot towels being given out, twice, when most people had not yet received anything to eat. Unbeliveable was the service, as was Joe's response to our complaint.

A cut above other restaurants

By Bill W |

We were in Dallas for a funeral and at the family gathering we were looking for a place to eat. The May Dragon Chinese Restaurant was recommended to us. The restaurant provides excellent food and service with moderate prices. The inside surrounding were up-scale and save the feel of being in a very modern restaurant. The menus save provided many choices to the restaurant patrons. The food was hot and very tasty once it reach the table. Entrees were brought to the table on large plates to be shared among the table guests. Jasmine tea was continuously being served. The wait staff along with the restaurant owner checked on our well-being and then met us at the door to thank us for our visit to his restaurant. We plan to visit the restaurant when we reach Dallas again.

Chinese in Addison

By Guest R |

I crave Chinese once in a while. And end up taking out from May Dragon. Food is consistently tasty. I usually order the chicken curry, one problem with that dish is there is way too much vegetables and not enough chicken.

The food is pretty good but the service is lousey!

By 1tripadvis0r |

My wife and I are of African American decent and we have been here a few times. This Chinese food is amongst the best in Dallas as far as we have found thus far. May Dragon has a large menu selection. Dinner is the best time to go to see the full extent of what they offer. We found out about this place through Groupon. While the food is good, the service is sub-par. We have gone multiple times, thinking that everyone can have a bad day and should be given another chance. We have given them time after time to get their service on the same field as their food. It just does not seem like it will ever be. If you have color in your skin and want good Chinese food, check out Howard Wang or order your food to go from this place. If you are Caucasian, no worries! You will be respected and glorified.

food and service not good

By Jody S |

Interior is nice and piano Music in bar is nice. However food and service is poor, so I won't be returning. It's sad since This restaurant is in a great location and is nice inside plus it's been there many years. But one dish we ordered wasn't prepared as described on the menu and was not edible. The fried rice we ordered was steamed with brown sauce added but it wasn't fried rice. Too bad the standards and service has been relaxed.

Giving a black eye to DFW

By bigboy61455 |

Ended up in this place unfortunately for between lunch and dinner. Asked for seafood fried noodle and replied that they don't have real seafood but they can add something like imitation crab. This should be a big enough red flag but my fault, I proceed. Fried noodle with shrimp and pork is inedible. Some part of noodle uncooked and very hard. Joke of the day is complimentary, small cup of sweet and sour soup is a bit better than awful $17 dish itself - which is "daylight robbery" in DFW standard!

Outstanding Food and Service

By bakacha |

Excellent from beginning to end! We had a Groupon, and hadn't been to this restaurant in about 20 years, so we weren't sure what to expect. We had a wonderful waiter, who was attentive, checking with us regularly and frequently, who anticipated our needs before we did. He was personable, to boot. He offered to take our pic together and did. The soup, and we tried the Imperial Chicken for Two, was out of this world, the flavor being unique and tasty. My husband expressed the need to avoid peas in the Ming Lettuce Wrap, and the waiter came back saying that they would be custom creating ours, since it is a minced filling. It was absolutely delicious. There was a plum sauce to add, and we did. It tasted great, when used somewhat sparingly, as it is intense. The other entree my husband and I shared, was the Three Treasures, a seafood dish with shrimp, crab and scallops. Though it wasn't as good as the wraps, it was still delicious. They could've added more sauce, and the shrimp could've been cooked a little less, but the sauce was a very good flavor, and we enjoyed it. The crispy wontons that came with the soup were very large and good. We also ordered Egg Flower and Wonton soup to go. They look very good and we are looking forward to eating them. The menu was varied with many interesting choices. Unique soups, too! In all, the atmosphere, aided by a pianist who was very talented, was relaxed and quiet, and geared more to couples or adult groups. A family with young kids would be better off elsewhere, imo, for loud voices would not be appreciated by the adult diners. The owners/managers said goodbye and thanked us for coming on the way out: a very friendly and customer-oriented restaurant, great for celebrations and quiet dinners.

May Dragon

By JIM R |

One of our favorite go-to places. Have tried several different dishes and enjoyed them all. Lunch menu is our preference.

Just Terrible

By John J |

I have been to May Dragon many times, but primarily for lunch and the quality has gone downhill over time. Tonight anyway, this was the worst Chinese food I can ever recall. We ordered takeout this time. The crispy duck was completely dried out (almost beef jerky like) and inedible. No flavor for $24. I can't believe anyone would serve this to a customer. They should be ashamed. The shrimp in the shrimp and lobster sauce was overcooked and mushy - terrible. The spring rolls and fortune cookies were ok. I doubt I will ever return.

Mouthwatering Chinese and Cooked Healthy!

By jamien |

My husband and I have been going to May Dragon for years now. The food is great, the service is attentive and we have never been disappointed. If you like seafood like me, then I would suggest you order the Three Treasures from the Orient. It is cooked very healthy. The shrimp, scallops, and crab meat are fresh and the sauce is light and tasty. The Garlic Prawns (larger shrimp) are also one of my favorites. If you are a meat lover like my husband, get the Mongolian Beef. The barbecue flavor of the beef is a nice contrast to the crunchy texture of the cabbage and onions below. The various waiters that have served us have all been very friendly and helpful. They have provided great recommendations especially if you want to change it up a bit. I could go on and on about the food. It's making my mouth water!

Overpriced Lunch

By ChopperBenny |

Lunch starts at $12.00. I ordered a Shrimp dish that was not as it described on the menu. In fact I thought I got the wrong dish. When I asked the waitress about it, she said it’s right. I said I ordered fried, she says it is. Well it wasn’t. My friends plate was also not good. Overpriced lunch. With tea, $16.50 each. Will not return

Always fresh - never disappointed

By euniceindallas |

It is always a treat eating at this restaurant. Food is always fresh, especially the meats and the wait staff are very attentive...always check in if we need anything. I love the hot tea, its the BEST - Jasmine tea - is so good that I asked to purchase some for home. Never disappointed!!

Awful & Overpriced

By sjd74 |

Went for a meal to the May Dragon. In summary, found the staff rude and discourteous, the food inedible, particular for the price we were paying. Couldn't wait to leave.

Great Food-Great Service-A Long-time Favorite!!

By GlamGirlie |

Have been going to this restaurant for years, but now finally live in the area. A definite go-to when you want classic Chinese food. Beautiful romantic setting and top-notch food and service. Glad I'm nearby, but I'd go the distance.

Disappointing

By KayK0512 |

The hot and sour soup was okay. The crab rangoon was awful. The wrappers were so heavy and doughy that the filling was completely overwhelmed. I love mu shu chicken, but the plum sauce was cloyingly sweet. My husband's dish included overcooked shrimp. The service was slow and inaccurate (we were initially presented with another table's entrees). There are too many good Chinese restaurants in the area to return here.

Great place to go in Addison for Chinese food

By Diane C |

I probably go to May Dragon about once a month and have been doing that for years. I find it to be consistently good. It's one of my favorite places to go for Chinese food. I also like the quiet atmosphere which makes it easy to converse with friends if someone is with me, and the service is extra good. Owner Chi Chi usually greets me and remembers what I like to eat and drink, and her owner husband is also very cordial. I definitely recommend it.

It's Pricey. Even the Waiter Agreed! But It's Excellent Chinese Food.

By John H |

Every so often I get the Chinese craving and last night I remembered that May Dragon in Addison (suburb of Dallas) was a "hot" spot years ago when I lived in this area. So off to May's and happily so. This is a classy place -- piano player in the bar lounge and white tablecloths on the tables. The place was busy, which I think is a good sign. Wait staff: very friendly. I ordered sesame chicken and broccoli in a brown sauce, and a side of noodles (they don't have sides so the waiter offered me the child's portion). I was surprised by the volume of food -- enough sesame chicken for two, and no child could have finished that platter of noodles. The brown sauce was tangy, the way I like it, and tasted rich, not just brothy. People around me were enjoying their meals, often commenting about the good quality of the food, and sharing among themselves. Another good sign! The only downside: Ouch, the price! Too much, May Dragon! But the piano and the white tablecloths sets this restaurant apart from your average Chinese place (even though the food can be outstanding in some of those hole in the wall places, too). If you go to May Dragon, and I encourage you to (you'll love the food), be prepared for an ouch at the end of the mill. But the waiter will assure you that the fortune cookie he gives you will help you win the lottery! So not to worry.

Not bad but pricey

By Johnny |

I went there 2/16/21, ordered the sesame chicken and a hot and sour soup to go. It was pretty pricey for a basic order and wasn't spectacular by any means. It wasn't bad either. But what will keep me from going back is they forgot my hot and sour soup

Still Very Repectable Chinese after 32 Years

By bill533 |

After a move put this place out of my local haunt category, I returned to find that May Dragon was still a very good choice for Chinese in Addison. Their Orange Beef is wonderful, crispy with good beef. I like mine very spicy and they always oblige. Best Hot & Sour Soup I've had in Dallas. Seasoned servers, welcoming family place but good for a date too. Prices very reasonable. I've definitely paid more for lesser quality. Lighting is a little dark, but I like that. The bar is great for afternoon sports watching in a quiet atmosphere. Just a solid local restaurant!

Good Dining Experience at May Dragon

By CoolPapaGreen |

We recently visited this Chinese restaurant for lunch, meeting some friends that we had not seen in years. The decor was nice and the quiet ambiance allowed us to talk without having to shout above the noise one frequently finds in many restaurants. They, also, did not try to hurry us so we had ample time to catch up with our friends. The menu was large (as you typically find in Chinese restaurants). The food was good but did not distinguish itself from the many Chinese restaurants in the North Dallas area. Also, a little pricey. Overall a good dining experience.

I’d rather go to panda

By Chey77 |

I got the sesame chicken with fried rice and a side of pan seared dumplings. First of all this dish was very expensive so I was thinking it was going to be amazing for its price and/or maybe be a larger dish. Not the case. Serving size was small. It was not crispy at all and needed more sauce but it did have flavor. The fried rice had zero flavor, looked and tasted like brown rice. I should’ve gotten steamed rice. The dumplings were alright. Needed more flavor and searing. It was a little better after I popped them in my air fryer. Overall probably won’t be back.

Absolutely yummy!

By lhabitat |

While visiting Dallas last week, a friend, who lives in the Addison area, said, "If you like Chinese food, you will love this place!" and she was right. May Dragon is a locally owned restaurant located in a strip mall with hands on management by the former mayor and his charming wife. Seating was prompt. Friend suggested the crispy tomato soup and it was outstanding, as well as something I had never had before. She ordered a beef dish and I ordered a shrimp dish - both ample servings and just the right touch of spice and heat with additional sauce if we wanted to "take it up a notch." It was good we arrived before the lunchtime rush. This is a place I would want to visit again - food, service, ambience were great and it was obvious the wait staff wanted the customers to be happy and return! Green tea ice cream was a refreshing finish.

May Dragon - Nothing Special

By hlevineocd |

Went for dinner with a date. The atmosphere was typical Chinese restaurant. The Hot & Sour Soup and Spring Rolls were undistinguished. She had chicken friend rice, which I found tasteless, and I had shredded pork in garlic sauce which was very bland. The service was very good...best part of the experience. I will keep searching for decent Chinese in DFW.

Great Pekin duck

By JACKIECHARLOTTE |

Their duck done the first way is wonderful. The servers are friendly and each time the food has been consistant.

Family owned and opertated for over 20 years

Dozens of choices. Orange beef is good as are many other dishes, but it's our destination for Peking duck.

Simply the best

By ddmariah |

Most Chinese food is "average", but that's not the case here.

Relaxing Sunday afternoon dinner

By gracielaccuster |

Excellent, attentive service, the restaurant has a relaxing, soothing vibe. My sweet and sour shrimp was excellent. My mom ate the Szechuan eggplant and she said it was excellent. Very large portion. May Dragon has a large, private room, where I attended a private event.

Great food & friendly service

By Teri Z |

My family just arrived from San Antonio 10/28/23 and we were really hungry. My sister in law viewed the reviews and it was enough for us to have our dinner here. Everyone was very friendly and owner friendly and our waiter was so nice. They took time to talk with my family and were engaged in our dinner conversation which was very nice. I ordered the shrimp and broccoli with steamed rice and dumplings. Wow the food was on point 🙌 very, very delicious. I highly recommend this place, if you want fresh good food. Thank you for making our experience a very nice one.

Best Egg Foo Young EVER

I have been a fan of Chinese food for more than 55 years, and especially egg foo young. This is by far the best egg foo young I've ever found, and everything else we ordered was excellent. Great service. Friendly staff. I recommend this place highly

Outstanding Chinese Food!!

By DarrellW726 |

It looks a little upscale, but the prices didn't indicate that. The food was outstanding. The piano player was a very nice touch. We definitely will return there.

Always great food.

Delightful Experience & Dinner

By cbed90 |

I joined colleagues and clients for dinner. Of the 12 of us six were visiting from Beijing. We had expected that our guests would have wanted steak or Texmex but this night they asked for Mexican. We chose May Dragon based on reviews on a China travel site. Our visitors ordered and had a great time interacting in Mandarin with all of the staff. Turns out they had brought numerous bottles of Chinese white wine which helped explain their interest in doing Chinese! If you know about Chinese white wine ceremonies you can imagine that part of the evening. The food was very good. We ordered a ton! And the staff was delightful. Towards the end of our stay the owner came by and spent 10 - 15 minutes visiting with us around the large round table in the semi-private room that we used. What a memorable evening and the folks from China were pleased.

Superb food and service

I was in Addison on business (not from Dallas) with another coworker from FL. We were hungry for Chinese and picked May Dragon based on good reviews and proximity to where we were. We were greeted pleasantly and I was surprised by how upscale and attractive the decor inside was for a strip mall location. The lunch combos were reasonably priced and both of us were amazed by the delicious hot and sour soup, some of the best I've ever had. When we complimented the waiter, he said he had made sure to bring us the first portions from a new pot that had just been prepared. Portion size was fine and beverages were regularly checked for refills. It was so good we came back a second day, the host recognized us and we again received outstanding service. Definitely on my list for return visits to Dallas/Addison.

Great food, service and ambiance!

By Phoebe1944 |

A lovely restaurant in the Addison area with a menu so full of choices it was hard to choose from. The service was knowledgeable and attentive. The atmosphere was perfect for a special occasion with private areas for a group. We had dinner with friends and enjoyed an evening sampling our dinner choices. Everything we ordered was delicious!

Dude, stop yelling!

By Glenn B |

The food was just "Okay", and our service was pretty good, but there was a large party in the next room and the older man helping them had no "Inside Voice" and kept yelling everything. Over and over and over....blah, blah, blah, as loud as he could. I wanted to get up and tell him to turn the volume down a little. It really ruined the experience.

Good Quality

By Frisco29 |

I decided to take work colleagues to May Dragon for lunch. All three of us were not happy with food and quality. The decor and service were ok. Dark chicken being used in Sichuan chicken, salty chicken lowmein and so so chicken fried rice.Sorry May Dragon, we were dissatisfied.

Clean Food, Great Service Every Time!

Joe Chow (Mayor of Addison) and his wife run a great restaurant where the food is consistently perfect and the ambiance is modern and romantic. I always get the string beans which are so crunchy and not to salty. We also always order the Peking Duck. Life doesn't get better than that duck, it is so yummy and crispy! For a really special treat, go there during the Chinese New Year Celebration (Feb. 10-23 roughly). There are dancing Lions and Snakes to enhance your dining experience!

Chinese is good here

May Dragon 4868 Belt Line Rd. Dallas, Texas 75254 Menu web site - http://www.dallasmaydragon.com/ Driving along the street this day at noon we decided lunch was in order. The holiday season and its associated foods was wearing thin, all of us were discussing a different meal when the focus turned to Chinese. May Dragon offers a varied menu. While my wife & I both enjoy Hot & Sour Soup she enjoys General Tsao's Chicken and I, Mongolian Beef for an entree. Various presentations of rice either fried, brown or white is always acceptable to both of us. Overall, the food was served hot and the quality was good. In as much as this was a mid-day meal and several more hours of shopping were ahead of us our libations were limited to water. Service was adequate. We were shown to our table and informed our waitress would be with us shortly. While waiting our table was supplied with water, sauces and dipping noodles. Our waitress was very polite and helpful- our orders were noted and taken to the kitchen. Perhaps it was the noon time and their lunch crowd never materialized but this patron's observation was that service was not as sparkling as it might possibly have been. The ambiance was wanting- the entrance seemed to be the only source of light and it was filtered through room dividers made to look like older, Chinese screen room dividers. At best the mood was somewhat somber. The quality of food far surpassed the mood! If one chooses a romantic first date May Dragon might just work but for a spontaneous family outing this may not be the first choice. Perhaps fewer screen dividers and more light would help the atmosphere. The wait staff might find a need for more frequent table visits are in order. Adding more light and increased table presence would enhance the already good food.

Great Taste Diversity and Attentive Service

After visiting May Dragon again on Christmas Day for a relaxing dinner (yes really open and a tradition for our family for many years when in Dallas for the holidays), we returned for the first Saturday dinner in 2007 to revisit the flavors that May Dragon blends so well. The beautifully sauteed fresh ingredients and sauces reflect the best range of traditional Chinese cooking styles. We ordered the May Dragon Sizzling Combination, a longtime favorite of mine and now my friend's and family. It used to be called the 101 but now I have to find it in the extensive menu which is even open to personal changes although you should try it the chef's ways first. What is unique to May Dragon here in Dallas (where it's hard to find authentic world class Chinese cuisine that doesn't taste like everything is made in the same two sauces) is that each dish has it's own combination of flavors as well as titled ingredients. The result is each of our family members yearn for the flavors in their personal favorite dish and although it's always good, it's hard to end up ordering something different or new. We always start with the "MayDragon Sizzling Combination", the Five Flavor Shrimp (which comes with a delicious walnut glaze sauce that is hard to resist) and Sesame, Garlic or Cashew Chicken (all white meat). This time we ordered the chicken sauteed instead of fried. No problem... it still came out within 10 minutes along with the rest of the dinners. Having been spoiled by tuning my palate and expectations from the best Chinatown restaurants in NYC, San Francisco, Wash DC, L.A., and Hong Kong, May Dragon holds it's own as far as flavor goes and generally there is better service than the more laid back attitude I have found in those other big city places where I sometimes wonder why people put up with the terrible service. Everyone at May Dragon from the owner, Joe Chow, who is always there even working on Christmas and New Years, to the waiters are all there to make your dining experience a friendly and memorable one. I guess that's why I consider it one of the very best in Dallas. As I have said, Chinese restaurants in Dallas typically have two kinds of sauces, neither have much flavor other than salt from soy or MSG. May Dragon never uses MSG and each sauce is special and distinctive. You may not end up taking a lot of food home but that's because quality costs money and besides you will be tempted to finish it all at the table, it's so good.

May Dragon Rocks!!!

May Dragon is the best Chinese restaurant in Dallas bar none! The food is authentic cuisine and the service is excellent! This will delight your palate every time! I highly recommend!

A little expensive... But not bad!

By EffieMew123 |

While I was on my trip this weekend in Dallas for the Miss Texas Teen pageant, my mom and I went out walking trying to find some food. We both wanted Chinese, and eventually we found the May Dragon a little ways behind the hotel. When we go there, it seemed like a nice place, and the two people working there were very nice. I bought Lo Mein and my mom bought Sweet and Sour Chicken. It was a tad expensive... Our total was just a little over $20 dollars. The food was alright, in my opinion, the Lo Mein was a little bland, so I put some of the Sweet and Sour Sauce from my mom's food into the Lo Mein. It was just okay after that. But not terrible! And my mom's chicken tasted a little different from the way we usually get it. But it wasn't bad with the sauce either! I would say to a friend that they should give this restaurant a try because they might like it. As for me, I'd rather be eating at Sesame Hill back here in Austin, or at Beijing Wok or Buffet Palace. They do Chinese SO well!

Lunch was nice

By orcasgal |

The waitress was efficient at getting us started, but left us to visit long after we finished eating. The food was pleasantly tasty, and nicely inexpensive for my choices. I had moo shu shrimp which was well-prepared and crispy shrimp as an appetizer. Hubby had beef with broccoli, which he enjoyed. The fortunes were hilarious. It is quite near the Comfort Suites North/Galleria 4555 Belt Line Road Addison, TX 75001, where we were staying.

Decent Chinese

By Ron C |

This restaurant has been around for many years in an area of town with few choices for Chinese. It had been a few years since we had been. The food was good and the portions were large. Very similar menu to Jasmine that is just west on Beltline. Nothing that would rate more than three stars.

Terrible

By CelineMoore |

I would never eat here again. The place is dirty and smells and is probably an indication of how the kitchen is kept. The chicken was like rubber and the rice was even bad. There are way better options!

Good and reasonable

By Rgpierce |

Not too busy but I don't know why not. It was delicious. Restaurant was clean and attractive. Dinner was delicious and waiter was helpful and attentive (and a real character !)

It looks so good but it's a trap!

By Jim T |

I usually go out of my way to write good reviews and help non-chain restaurants. I know it's hard to run a restaurant so I am reluctantly writing this review since I don't have the authority or ability to put up a warning sign. The place looks great, the menu promising. We went on a Saturday late afternoon before it was busy. We were seated promptly and a very eager waiter who repeated everything to us in pretty good English and broken Spanish waited on us. Lots of energy. He took our order and brought some won tons for appetizers which turned out to be the highlight of the meal. Our food came reasonably quickly. My date ordered spicy eggplant with a side of spring rolls. I ordered sesame beef. It looked great. But the taste.... My date couldn't eat more than a few bites of the eggplant. She said it tasted terrible and didn't want to discuss it further. My sesame beef was stringy and that wasn't the worst of it. It tasted like it was dipped in stale breadcrumbs and fried in rancid oil. I would have asked for something to repair it but it was hopeless. I tried several pieces hoping that it was just inconsistent. No such luck. It literally tasted like I vomited in my mouth. We didn't want to raise a scene so we asked for the check. The dynamic waiter came with the check and two fortune cookies. Well, kind off. My date had a fortune cookie and I had a plastic package with fortune cookie crumbs. It was symbolic of the meal. Just save yourselves!

Good Chinese in Addison

By jittus2015 |

This old establishment in the same location for many years is a Chinese cuisine landmark in Addison. The owner, Mr. John Chow is a well known socialite in North Dallas and welcomes a lot of business lunches and dinner get together at this location. Service is excellent; food is average; prices are mid range. Weekday lunch specials at $10, is a great bargain in a nice envoirnment.

3d Visit Somewhat Better

By Yankeehoya |

My last visit (Feb 17) and one several years before were not good. This time was OK. I ordered Peking Duck for the first time and did think it was pretty good. The rest of the food was average and the service was unimpressive, especially since my buddy has been patronizing this restaurant since it opened. It still seems overpriced.

I felt like a princess

By c h |

The service and food was superb - I felt like a princess with the attention and service. Marvelous pianist (Steve Sonday), gracious and cheerful manager ChiChi, and server Cyrus each contributed to making this a royal evening.

Unfortunate experience

By jfsmim |

We used to enjoy this restaurant. Our most recent experience was the worst I have had in a long time. Cashew chicken tasted spoiled. I sent it back. They brought another just as bad. Egg rolls were greasy. Corn and crab soup had no crab. I was told that the crab was in little pieces, but I could not find them. I will not go back, unfortunately. I enjoyed them for 10 years, but something bad has happened.

Nice place.

By Woodrow W |

Good food. Decent prices. Great Fog Cutters! I normally sit at the bar and dine with a beverage. I have tried several items on the menu and so far have not been disappointed.

Not Worth The Price

By Kristin |

Got dinner to go, sesame chicken and Kung pao. The chicken for the Kung pao was delicious but the seams chicken was over cooked and very chewy. $35.00 for one edible dish is not realistic. Would not eat here again.

Dinner was ok

By emilio_tx |

We just came back, I want to impressed with the food, service was great. Everything looked nice and clean. Overall, an ok experience but I don't think I'd return.

Good food, but have to ask for items, odd

By Annmarie_Nims |

Restaurant ambiance was great and even live piano music was pleasant. Food was good and was as ordered But there were things as the service that was lacking. Minor though they are, those detracted from our experience. No water on the table or offered after we ordered our drinks. The fried crisps were on the table but with out the dipping sauces, we had to ask for those. The waiter was friendly but didn't come back to check on our table during the meal to refresh drinks, we had to ask a passing waitor to find our waitor to get that. And it was a Very slow night. Overall the food is what we would go back for. We hope it was just an off night for our waitor.

Best Chinese Food

By Tucker W |

My wife and I purchased a Groupon for May Dragon. We had never heard of it before so we did not know what to expect. My wife ordered the sesame chicken and I had the orange beef. The sesame chicken was great and that was the best orange beef I have ever had. The service was what you would expect in a four star restaurant and the price was great. It was $10-15 per entree. The atmosphere was awesome.

Doesn't honor saversguide!

By truckinusa |

Food is ok. Prices are a little high. Service is great. I tried to use a saversguide coupon at the end of my meal and they wanted to argue with me over whether or not I need a card which you don't. Here are the rules: "To save at participating merchants, simply present your printed SaversGuide® coupon or membership card before the merchant totals your bill. Discounts exclude tax, tip, alcohol and sale items, where applicable." So don't plan on eating here and using a saversguide coupon without the card.

Great Management

By Trish D |

The Mayor of Addison owns this place. He's a great reason to drop in. The Lion dance and festivities during Chinese New Year are lovely. Too bad the cuisine does not offer the same flare and style as the owner.

wowed by the friendly driver

By r w |

i ordered delivery for my family. I was amazed that the food got to us within 25 minutes. The driver was so nice and very polite i don't think i've ever hand a delivery driver be as kind as Bob was. I strongly advise you all use their delivery service.

Exquisite Chinese cuisine with bold flavors and stunning presentation. The dim sum was a highlight, and the Peking duck was perfection. Elegant, yet unpretentious ambiance.

Good food, great rice!

By Josh A |

I'm a big fan of Chinese cuisine and May Dragon did not let me down! The flavor of everything was great and their fried rice was especially good. My only complaint was the portion size seemed a little on the small size for the price I paid.

A favorite for years

By StorminNorman50 |

Been going there for years and made a recent visit this week. Always consistent quality, service and value. The owner is visible and involved which contributes to the consistency. Nice atmosphere conducive to a business lunch or quiet dinner. I've tried a variety of menu items and I'm never disappointed. Been in business over 20 years; might be the longest-tenured restaurant in Addison.

Wish I could give it 0.

By Emma Austin |

Entertainment was great, service was worse than terrible. Wish I could give a review on the food, but was never served. Waited over an hour after ordering before we left - still with no food. Restaurant looked semi-full but not especially busy, in all it was a very disappointing experience.

Great lunch, better price

By Chris |

Food was good, lunch special was 10.00. Service was fast and friendly. Taste was better than expected, I would return.

Good Chinese Food Since 1986

By yellowpixels |

Joe Chow has been serving good chinese food since 1986. It is always well prepared. Good atmosphere for lunch or dinner. They always try to do their best even during the times when the place is overrun like Christmas or Chinese New Years. Make sure you ask for Joe - the former mayor of Addison and now running for Congress.

Very bad expereince

By k v |

If I could give May Dragon a zero rating, I would. My husband and I ate at May Dragon at 4:00 on March 24, 2015. I ordered the Hunan Chicken at the suggestion of the wait staff. It was served promptly because there was no one else in the restaurant. The chicken smelled spoiled, a little off; it could have been the chicken or perhaps the oil was rancid, but it didn’t taste well at all. I tried to eat the vegetables but the taste permeated the vegetables. My husband was able to eat his but said it was bland and mushy and that the "fried rice" was just brown rice. He tasted mine and said, no, something wasn’t right with it, that it tasted spoiled. We called the waitress and told her that something was wrong with the chicken. She responded that I had just eaten too many wonton strips. I was shocked but told her that I really hadn’t and I didn’t think that was what was wrong, that something was wrong with the chicken. She looked at the plate and told me that I had spoiled the dish by putting too much hot sauce on it and that I shouldn’t have put so much hot sauce on it. We asked to speak with the owner and she said he was busy and brought us the bill. We paid it without argument; what else could we do? I sent Mr. Chow the owner a letter and enclosed a copy of our bill telling him that we had gotten a dab meal. He never responded. I am going to report this to the Better Business Bureau. We will certainly never eat at May Dragon again.
