From the street, I was a little concerned this place wouldn't live up to my daughter's lofty recommendation. However, once inside you have an open, understated wood floor vertical subway tile, quasi retro environment that is as relaxing as one of their signature cocktails! The service was very friendly and helpful, but the food was the shining star! Don't miss this one!

I visited the Mayfield with friends on a Friday night. We had reservations and had no problem getting our seats when we arrived. It has a great atmosphere and delicious, fresh cuisine. We got three spoon breads to split, another and I had the venison stew. It was amazing. My friend couldn't finish her scallops and pasta, so she handed it over to me. If you're in Brooklyn, this is a solid, fresh choice.

Me and my husband came here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. The place was not too crowded and we were able to sit right the way. We were very happy with our poached eggs. Service is fast and nice. A must to try is the cheesecake with basil.

Not the first time at Mayfield and never disappointed. Brunch is an awesome brunch. Omelets with salmon, cream cheese and spinach or omelets with ham and Swiss or Eggs Benedict. All offered with greens and perfectly fried potatoes. A piece of toast adds to the experience. Bloody Marys and Mimosas are delicious and pricier than most on or near Franklin Ave. Will always return. World Cup on the small screen at the bar. Do not hesitate!

Me & My Partner were looking for somewhere to eat near where we were staying and the Mayfield looked very nice. We tried to book online but tables werent available. We tried our luck and got a table and what a treat it was. I had the smoked pork spare ribs and my partner had the Fried Chicken & Spicy Slaw sandwich. The food was very tasty and well presented. The atmosphere in there was really nice and it felt very romantic. Staff were also very friendly. Definitely worth a visit!

Do NOT pass by this restaurant without stopping! The food is wonderful, the service is excellent, and you will want to tell your friends when they visit NY-Brooklyn that they will have a great culinary experience when they dine here. They will be thankful and grateful and might even bring you a snow globe of the Brooklyn Bridge or some other tourist worthy memorabilia!

Put aside the Manhattan snobbery and eat at a restaurant/bar that really seems to care about its patrons. Just a few blocks from the 2-3-4-5 trains [and others] at Franklin Avenue/Eastern Parkway, Mayfield is a casual place with the best kale salad on the planet - and I never liked kale! The chef really knows how to dress up a plate, and we'd be back just for the salad, even if the entrees were not top notch. We both had fish and they were generously proportioned and perfectly prepared. Chocolate dessert was superb. Mayfield has been open just over a year and deserves a visit.

During the last five months, I have eaten at Mayfield'ss about five times, which is more than I've returned to any other single restaurant. I've stopped eating special meals elsewhere, because I just end up comparing them to Mayfield's. When describing it, I say that it is "southern -inflected," because there are oysters and fried fish and chips on the menu, but it's so much more. I usually get the Bershire pork belly and grilled octopus, which is sublime, and one of the salads - kale salad, or dandelion salad with poached egg. yum!

I was in town for a conference and to celebrate the New Year I decided to treat my friends to dinner and drinks at Mayfield. I don't eat meat so I can't really weigh in on the food. But, my friends said the food was great. One ordered the pork chop. The other friend ordered the trout. My review is really about the drinks and the energy of the place. The staff is awesome. The drinks and the bartenders were fantastic! I really cannot say enough about the supreme customer service the bartenders rendered. There were two or three. They were very attentive. I do remember one guy's name - Greg. Greg was ah-mazing! Just a blast. He (and the other bartenders) made our night out memorable. The Mayfield has a great energy all around. It set the bar high for the rest of our evening. In addition, traffic was crazy on Friday evening. First, I was stuck in traffic. Then one of our other friends was stuck in traffic. So, we kept trying to save his seat. The staff didn't freak out on us. I totally appreciated this as I was visiting from Cali and I rarely get to see them. Anyhoo, Mayfield made my dining experience wonderful!

Great local restaurant with fantastic food. Mushroom ravioli is incredible. Fried chicken was superb. Highly recommended.

Run to this place, be here before 11 so you don't have to stand too long in line, if in line - wait, then indulge! Nice digs. Fantastic food. Ok, I'm a fish and chips fanatic --- it's a light batter and one of the best anywhere. Others had omelettes and benedicts and it was all great! Lively crowd matched by cool decor - a Brooklyn classic.

So I've come to Mayfield somewhat regularly when they first opened, I've had less time to visit but when I do, I get the raw oysters (for happy hour), steak tartare, and their brunches and Valentine's day dinner are amazing. I am not as crazy as the limited wine selection (maybe just my taste buds) but the food is pretty damn good.

I simply love this place, even on the coldest day the bowling alley topped wooden tables are so warm and inviting. The food is great - love the fish and chips and tonight for dessert the donuts were divine! Great selection of drafts and nice choices of mixed drinks. Nice vibe and Franklin...count your self lucky!

Came her for dinner with family from out of town on Saturday night. The food was very good - we had the porterhouse, a cauliflower dish, a couple of sandwiches and fried quail. One sandwich came out a little burned around the edges but was rectified quickly. Service good and prompt and with a smile. I think management could turn the music down a notch or two without impacting the atmosphere - it tended to kill conversation and I couldn't hear the server unless she was right next to me. That would be my only hesitation before bringing people here again

This is a great local restaurant, although I was told the owner has some other restaurants. It's set in an old storefront, so has brick walls and antique but hip ambience. The food was excellent, service was friendly and efficient. We had the Brussels sprouts salad and the cauliflower custard. The Brussels sprouts was a little salty, but with great flavors from a chili jam, peanuts, and cilantro. The cauliflower custard was one of the most imaginative dishes I've eaten in a while. Good drink menu too.

I've eaten at Mayfield numerous times. Food is consistently good. Favorite dishes would have to be the Kale salad, trout with fingerling potatoes and sauce béarnaise. The mushroom ravioli is another winner. The desserts are insane. They change them seasonally. If you can't make dinner, try the brunch. Mayfield delivers every time. The restaurant gets busy. I always like to book a reservation ahead of time to avoid waiting for a table.

It was an excellent experience. We ate beef, scallops, lamb chops, quail and all were delicious. The service was friendly and efficient. Noise factor loud. Desserts exquisite. We will return! for sure!

Gracious wait staff, excellent food and atmosphere, cozy window table on a frigid -- frigid night. Corn bread fried oyster sppetizer was beautiful. Trout was amazing. All well presented. Not at all rushed. No reservation needed

Ducked into here after a long crawl in Brooklyn. Very cozy and dark interior with full bar service and artfully prepared meals. The gnocchi that I had was very good and tasty and the added bonus was oysters on special during happy hour. Would definitely repeat.

My husband and I ate at Mayfield on a Friday night. The place was packed with happy diners. Great atmosphere and friendly wait staff. We sat on the patio and enjoyed some local brews. I had heard they had a great burger. They offer cheese, avocado, and bacon, but I wanted to judge the basic burger. It was delicious. Cooked medium rare to perfection, great meat grind. My husband had the Cuban sandwich. It was excellent also. Pressed and loaded with pork. Highly recommend for good food and fun atmosphere.

Met a friend for lunch at Mayfield, and it was a stellar experience. My friend recommended the kale salad, so I went along with that as well as the cornmeal fried oysters over snoked salmon and celeriac. I wasn't expecting to be wowed by the kale salad but I was! Great mix of acidity, sweetness and crunch. Not fussy, but utterly delicious. The oysters were a delight as well. Very friendly service. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Six adults had dinner there last night. Had special on fresh oysters, which were very good. Service was good. Not extensive menu, but should have something to please most. Can get a little noisy when busy. Brick and subway tiles. Tables in front with bar in back.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner in this great neighborhood restaurant. Service was very friendly, and the atmosphere fun.

Always great food, service, and vibe. The appetizers are always great. Loved the pork chop and porterhouse entreé. Save room for the impossible cake!

Our daughter took us here for dinner when we visited her in Brooklyn and it was great. Nice atmosphere, small but with a roomy feel because of table spacing. Excellent food-I had the trout and it was perfectly prepared. Helpful, pleasant wait staff. Would definitely revisit

It was my Wife's birthday and we left it to a random search where we were to pick a place. We chose Mayfield. Excellent choice. All the food was great 2 friends had to pork, they loved it. That's a dish easy to make and easy to ruin. Another friend and I had the fish and chips. Perfect and not too greasy. I had some oysters, I don't care for them. They were great. Let's talk about service. 2 other friends work in food service. They couldn't stop raving how exceptional our waitress was. Very accomodating for our large party. They atmosphere is great, didnt look at the backyard but it was just that little bit too cold. Next time at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden we will probably end up there again.

We love Mayfields for brunch, lunch and dinner. On this last visit I had the lunch special duck mousse with salad that also includes a free glass of wine or beer. The food here is always delicious and the service is fast and friendly. I love the subway tile on the walls and exposed brick.

Warm, cozy, oddly spacious. Feels like it should be the setting for a lovely Hollywood romantic comedy date. Looks the part. Good looking menu. Nice selection of beer and wines. I sat at the bar with a buddy. They have a single TV so you can watch a game - but this is a bistro first. Burger was delicious, fries were room temperature (so that was a miss). But if you need a good spot to eat, drink or have a date. This is the place. They take cards.

Fantastic place to enjoy a Brooklyn brunch on a rainy day. The brunch menu is vast and interesting. We each tried something different and shared our entrees. We were all impressed with our choices and the wait staff is knowledgeable and welcoming. The decor is calming and homey with a Brooklyn chic look.

I went there with a friend for dinner after ou visit to the Brooklyn museum. The place is cute. The service was good. The mixed drink menu is cool. We had “if you want me to stay” and “love city.” They were good. Could be a tag stronger. The fish and chip was good but it wasn’t like the best I had. The chicken pate appetizer is EXCELLENT!

My only critique is the outside of the building; needs to be more inviting and the seating could be more comfortable. Other than that, a truly wonderful dining experience. The waiters were friendly and respectful, we were assisted promptly and our waiter was very helpful in the choices we made for our meal. Food was well cooked, tasty and we left only the knives and forks on the plate! A wonderful dining experience! Will visit again! Highly recommended!

What a great restaurant. The decor was both inviting and relaxing. The food was really great. The oysters, organ meat dishes, fluke ceviche, kale salad pork chop and scallops were all fantastic. The service was attentive and helpful. My wife went on to say it was one of the new meals she had.

We have dropped in for breakfast / brunch twice in the last month and have really enjoyed the interactions with the staff and our choices food selections. Some things we really enjoyed - Beer selection (tap and can) - Mimosa - BLT - Fish and chips

The ambiance was warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxed date night. The menu had creative dishes, though some flavors felt a bit hit-or-miss—the roasted chicken was a highlight, but the pasta was underwhelming. Service was friendly but occasionally slow. While it’s not the most memorable dining experience, it’s a decent choice for couples seeking a cozy, low-key spot in Brooklyn. Worth a try, but manage your expectations.

Comfortable, creative cuisine in Crown Heights. Had a Sunday night dinner with my wife and adult kids. Good service, inventive menu, reasonably priced. We shared a number of appetizers and entrees. Steak tartar, gnocchi, kale salad, cauliflower custard, crab melt, and raw tuna dish were all excellent. Spoon bread was tasty, but small. Fish and chips were just OK. Good choice if you are in the area.

We had dinner on Saturday night at Mayfield and only learned about this place by searching for reservations on Resy. When I search for restaurants I (of course) check out the menu to make sure that everyone in my party would find something they would like to eat. The restaurant has a very neighborhood vibe and friendly staff. We ordered some appys for the table including: sweet and spicy brussels (OMG so good), steak tartare, roasted oysters, (yum), and the mushroom ravioli (loved!). Here's what we had for dinner: the pork chop was outstanding, the ribs (so good) and I had the fried quail and it is all I can think about two days later. Loved the collared greens and spoon bread set up. Gimmie more! Don't be a wine snob and try the cabernet franc from the NY state finger lakes regions. It is as smooth as silk and deliciously round and lovely.

Mayfield offers some of the best small plates options I've seen in a while. Easy to order a balanced, delicious meal and try several dishes. My husband and I ordered the kale salad, roasted oysters, mushroom ravioli and pork spare ribs. We left nothing behind. Very tasty. Pineapple upside down cake with ice cream and caramel sauce finished us off. One small complaint: the food is on the salty side. But the complimentary mix of flavors and skilled preparation are undeniable. Great service. Would love to return.

I recently visited my daughter who lives in Brooklyn. I was tired from a long day of traveling and this restaurant was just a short walk from her apartment. Our meal was amazing- pleasant wait staff and fresh food! We even shared dessert- it was the perfect place to have a great dinner!

I don't like to give a bad review but I am sitting here with my feet elevated because they are so swollen from MSG and excessive salting. Who does that anymore? I had fish and chips. My fish had so much batter and was more like a sandwich. The tartar sauce was mayonnaise, not tartar sauce. I felt they were running out of potatoes and gave us the tiny short pieces that were left at the end of the day. Really disappointing.

We had three couples, my wife and me, our two daughters and their boyfriends. My one daughter lives in the neighborhood and suggested we go here on somewhat of a spur of the moment. Glad we did!!! Although we had about a 45 minutes wait (I mean it was a Saturday night and we had no reservations) it was worth it. We had drinks at the bar while we waited and those were good. We were then seated within the 45 minute time estimate. We all had something different, including the Cuban sandwich, Quail, Gnocchi, Fish and Chips, Eggplant Lasagna, Pork Chop, Brussel Sprouts and for dessert the Ricotta doughnuts and bread pudding. Everything and I mean everything, was very good to excellent. Service was good, maybe a tad slow, but nothing that took away from the experience. I (we) highly recommend the Mayfield!

Great food, service and atmosphere. Best scallops ever along with other innovative cuisine. Be sure to get there for happy hour. The oysters are very fresh and delicious.

Had dinner here with my family and enjoyed it so much. Nice selection of oysters, as well as other starters. Menu is varied and unique; food was very high quality. Berkshire pork chop was prepared extremely well, as was the whole trout. Service was friendly and helpful with menu questions. Would definitely eat here again during another visit.

Have enjoyed a couple of dinners here with friends. One was on a weeknight when it was half full, food was delicious, and service was super. Another was on a Saturday night when the restaurant was full, and the noise level was so high that we could barely hear each other talk. Sitting on a table of six I could only hear two people. The servers were also clearly stressed and slow.

I've been to Mayfield several times and I'm always impressed. The food is excellent, the waiters are incredibly good-natured (happily correctly an error made by the kitchen and it was no big deal), well-informed (one of our party has to eat gluten and dairy-free), and I love the atmosphere. I suppose the one reason I give this restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 is that it does get a bit noisy if it's packed with people. Oh, and the bar is a great place to sit. There is also seating outside in the back. It's cozy and quiet.

Walked in around 3:00pm with a friend with the intention to simply grab a cocktail. The “manager” or hostess whoever she was greeted us with “the kitchen is closed”. Smh After explaining we only wanted a cocktail she finally said we could sit at the bar. Cocktail menu was just ok. Nothing special. Bartender a bit stiff and had no personality.

Our group of 5 educators traveled to NYC for a workshop. Our host recommended Mayfield. We were drawn by the ambience and great vibe. Our waiter was very friendly. The menu was great, but everyone at my table had questions, and we all wished our waiter had taken the time to explain the menu and give us generic information regarding the dishes and the restaurant. It also appeared to have a small outdoor section, but we sat inside. Everyone enjoyed their food from oysters to burgers to salad. It was all good and the presentation was spot on!

My daughter lives nearby and knew about it, other wise I would never have even seen it, let alone ventured in. Amazing food. Awesome playful bartender/waitress. Don't miss this secret.

The appetizer menu is good and I would recommend you stick to this, order two. I ordered the scallops and they were gritty, a big mistake, especially for the price. My husband had the pork chop, which he liked, it also had ribs on the plate. The serve was friendly, but when the place got busy, it became very warm! Would I go back, probably, but I would stick to the appetizer next time.

Found this restaurant just round the corner from where we were staying and it was perfect. A great neighbourhood atmosphere. It took us a while to get our head around how the menu worked, but the waiter sorted us out. It works on a sort of tapas basis, so we had 8 dishes between 4 of us - 3 as starters and 5 mains. Rabbit ragout, perfect broccoli, lamb ribs, asparagus, grilled oysters... all really delicious. Also a great selection of draft and bottled beers. Try it if you're in the area!

Man, I wish this restaurant were in my neighborhood. Large airy space that was excellent for brunch. Amazing coffee, interesting and delicious brunch entrees. Friendly staff who were just the right level of chatty and very accommodating of the baby in our party.

4 picky eaters choosing 4 different breakfast items and surprise! All happy. Totally recommend this place for bloody Mary's, food and coffee! The portions were on the generous side as well. Hostess told us it would be 1/2 hour and it was! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was we sat at a high top and it was tight and seat was a bit uncomfortable. Otherwise, great vibe, service, food and drink.

We had a group meal at this remarkable restaurant in central Brooklyn. The service was attentive but not overbearing, which in America is somewhat unusual. One accurate description would be high-end gastro-pub food. Notable menu items included the trout, which three folks got, and steak, which I got. The fries....my god....those were really amazing and I strongly recommend them. Worth breaking your no-carb-vows for.

Very good, consistent restaurant. We leave near by and we go there every time we don't feel like cooking. Every thing we tried was good. The burger are amazing. Great pasta too. Best restaurant on Franklin ave.

I miss the best dish, removed why? - Grilled Octopus and pork belly. So I get the burger now, but its a burger. Great oyster deal before 6:00. So oysters and burgers.

My friend and I stumbled upon Mayfield as we were looking for some brunch and really enjoyed it there. All of the staff was super friendly and the food was delivered quickly and it was pretty delicious. The prices were great too, for the amount of food that we got. I ordered a sandwich and it was huge and like eleven dollars. Great place to go to if youre in the area.

Smooth like Butter is actually the name of a drink on their menu and yet, it seems to perfectly describe my experience at Mayfield. The staff is warm and inviting. The service is quick and, wait for it...wait for it...Bam! The food is delicious! This restaurant hit the trifecta. Bravo. Bravo I say. I had the fish and chips for $16 and smooth like butter drink for $12. My dinner companion ordered happy hour wine ($6) and fish chowder ($10). Total due before tip was $46 (tax included). Mayfield is steps away from the new Brooklyn Flea on Dean and Franklin. It is a large place, but manages to maintain a cozy and quaint atmosphere. Like others who have posted on Trip Advisor, I live for fish and chips. This restaurant is a top contender. Too bad I have food allergies. The table next to us took advantage of the $1 oyster special; it looked so inviting. Do your palate a favor. Try this place. You won't be disappointed.
Excellent Brunch
To start we had fried oysters which were cooked well. I usually don’t like fried oysters but actually enjoyed these. For our entrees we ordered a burger, Atlantic eggs Benedict and shrimp & grits. We wiped our plates clean. I highly recommend this restaurant!
