Nice food, friendly staff

By Layla F |

I loveeee the variety of food and appetizers they offer. Their menus include items that are rarely found in other fancy Persian restaurants like brain, tongue or Kalleh pache. I tried their kabobs (barg and koobide). Fantastic. Rice was well done as well.

Excellent dining experience

By John Paisley |

Delicious kababs, wide selection of khoresht, as well as some more unusual Persian dishes (such as zaban). Great ambiance, and professional/attentive staff. Highly recommended!

Best Persian

By travelmeisteren |

Best Persian we've eaten anywhere around the world (okay, I confess, we've not been to Iran to eat the real deal Persian food). My wife and I both got the chicken joojeh along with the beef/lamb koubideh (sp?) kebab. I love the chicken, she loves the beef/lamb, so we swapped kebabs so I ended up with two chicken and she had two beef/lamb. Absolutely fantastic. Eating there reminded me it's time for me to cook my own joojeh (I found a recipe that's pretty darn good) again! You will not be disappointed eating at Maykadeh. We've been there so many times and the food is always outstanding.

Wonderful Persian Meal, and for so many years!

By billk2345678 |

I was recently able to return to this restaurant after many years. It was always a sure thing pleases everyone kinda place. And North Beach Telegraph Hill is a pretty nice area. We chose to sit outdoors on a beautiful November day. The menu was more or less unchanged, Grilled meats of all kinds, seafood, stews, tongue, liver and brain, plenty of vegetables. A solid wine list for the cuisine and prices that all in all are value in San Francisco. Salad, yoghurt, Lamb chops and steak with fixin's and bread. The rice here is light and airy and topped with saffron rice, Yum. Most home grilling isn't half this good. I hope to return again much sooner

The Best Persian Food in the Bay Area!

By David K |

Great persian food and the owner Sasha really takes care of all the guests. Everything from the moment we sat down was spot on. The bread was hot and delicious and we have never had better baba ghanoush. The mixed grill was just perfect. The chicken was so well seasoned and moist but the lamb chops are the star of the show. Seasoned incredibly well and fantastic preparation. All the little details are also perfect like delicious rice and tea at the end. Can't wait to go back

Yummy persian food (recommend the SoltanI) in great location... perfect with a Persian lady coctail btw

Very good Middle-Eastern cuisine in smart surroundings

By johnkowloon |

We fancied some Middle-Eastern food for Sunday lunch while we were in San Francisco. However, we soon discovered that most places within 30mins walk from our hotel in Union Square was either closed on Sunday or was a takeaway restaurant. We then found Maykadeh, which specialises in Persian cuisine, via the internet. Located in the busy North Beach area, it is an upmarket restaurant. We ordered the hummus for starter, and then had the roast chicken and lamb shank for our mains. Everything was delicious, and the service was good. A lucky discovery for us. We'll return.

outstanding food...cannot give it a higher rating

By Steve60993 |

The food at this restaurant is top notch. The best 'Soltani' I've ever tasted. The meat is tender, melts in your mouth. The service is excellent. Appetizers are tasty. The staff is friendly. All in all, just a superb experience. I visit this restaurant every time I go to San Francisco...this past visit I went twice in one week the food is so good.

Best Persian in SF

By Azzouni |

Been there twice already. I've tried most of the Persian restaurants in San Francisco and this one by far is the best. The service was a little too slow the second time and our waitress forgot an order. Still, the quality of their food is EXCELLENT. The Barg is a little too expensive compared with others though.

Very reasonably priced, good Persian food with great service

By Mitch R |

I went here for dinner with a friend who grew up in Iran. The restaurant is in North Beach - a cool neighborhood to walk around in. The restaurant is clean, the service is attentive and the food is great. The price, for San Francisco, makes it a relative bargain. I recommend this place.

Never miss a chance

By munkhkhuj b |

This is one of the must eat places in SF. I never miss a chance to dine here. Their dishes are affordable and comes in adequate portions but most of all its just too darn tasty. I love Persian cuisine and I have tried many Persian restaurants in many different countries even in Iran and yet there are none that can rival Maykadeh.

Not cheap but a truly fine meal

By MNataro |

White table clause, exquisitely cooked dishes, friendly and hospitable staff, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. It almost is like a fine dining experience but with moderate prices. Lowest entrée was $18, to about $35, So not cheap but not unreasonable for a white tableclothed restaurant. The dishes had such unique flavors with chicken cooked in pomegranate juice and other wonderful spices. And we wouldn't recommend it to anyone especially as it is in North Beach which is such a fun neighborhood

Very nice restaurant where you find the real persian food. I ordered Chicken kabob and Koobidh and was amazing the tenderness and the flavor of the meat. I love this place.

Delicious Persian food. Excellent atmosphere! It was a very good sign that most of the patrons appeared to be Persian (they spoke in another language to the Persian waitstaff). The lamb shank was fantastic! So delicious! The pomegranate chicken was my husband's favorite. Of course the parking is impossible, its San Francisco! We walked from our hotel about 10 blocks away and got an amazing view of the Trans. building in the sunset. This is too pretty a city to drive thru anyway!

Delicious, fresh food; Friendly service

By DERICK S |

My party of 4 had an excellent experience at Maykadeh. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and were greeted and seated immediately. We ordered a few appetizers, which arrived promptly accompanied with fresh basil, radish, and hot bread. Our entrees were hot and delicious. The servers were friendly and efficient. The restaurant is clean and well patronized. I would definitely return to Maykadeh.

PERSIAN SUPREME!

By AEBBrenham |

Maykadeh is our favorite Persian Restaurant in the Bay Area. Excellent food in nice surroundings. The Shish Kebobs, Lamb Chops, Cornish Hen are all succulent and flavorful. Salads are wonderful. Herbs and warm Pita Bread come with the meal. Friendly service.

Wonderful

By ssotda |

No one should be afraid to try this restaurant-it was great. I ordered Salmon which was the best I have ever tasted along with great vegetables. We also had an eggplant appetizer which was one of the best I have tasted outside of a trip to Turkey. We also had lamb shank with eggplant which was delicious and tender. The portions are very good as was the service. I noticed another reviewer questioned the neighborhood-I found nothing wrong with the neghborhood. There were other restaurants and shops close by and the neghborhood was busy with people. It was easy to get to by cable car (Powell Mason to Green St and about a 4-5 block walk) or buses on Stockton. We come here whenever we come to San Franciso-its one of our favorites.

Best Persian in the City

By DineAboutWorld |

This place has been around for a long time! It is consistently one of the best with their kabobs, saffron rice, and we particularly like their lamb sausage. This is a North Beach classic! Service is excellent too.

Must go for Fantastic Persian Food

By Marc |

We came to this restaurant based on the review and recommendation of a long-time patron. it was a delight to experience. The food and service were both outstanding. The explanation for the dishes and the recommendations were "spot on". We had several main courses and appetizers and the dessert was extraordinary. we highly recommend that you come and enjoy yourself at this establishment. Also, Emiliano was perhaps the most, friendly, helpful, engaging and delightful person we met at the restaurant. He was always available and took the time to answer our questions and provide us with wonderful suggestions. He was the best. Go and experience this fabulous restaurant yourself, you will not be disappointed, I promise.

The culinary anthem of my youth, adulthood and hopefully old age

By Zachube Javid |

My family and I have patronized Maykadeh for well over a decade. My father is a regular, and I order take out frequently (if I'm not there in person). First, Sasha, the waiter, is extremely pleasant. He loves to make new friends, but don't let that intimidate you. He is a sweetheart! My father is Persian and can personally attest to the authentic quality of the food. The kebabs are stellar. I strongly recommend the chicken koobideh, along witht he beef kubideh. The filet mignon kebab is decadent, but worth it. Be sure to ask for extra fresh onion! All of the khoresh are stellar. Fresh, quality ingredients all around. Granted, there is a price premium, but it is worth it. You could, of course, opt for Moby Dick or some other chain restaurant for a slab of meet on rice (devoid of safron) and call it Persian food. But that would be a disgrace to Persian culture, and I would not date insult the homeland of Cyrus, Darius, Xerxes and other noble historical warriors. Bottom line -- go to Maykadeh. It's stellar!

Authentic Persian Cuisine with a wow

By Chris M |

Let's get right to it: We just had an amazing evening at this restaurant. The food is amazing and the different dishes have such a variety of flavours that will leave you impressed - especially as first timer to the Persian cuisine. We were luckily a group of four and shared the dishes (highly recommended). Moreover, our "hosts" for the evening - both from Iran - took care of the orders made sure we got a good idea of the variety of the Persian food. After that, we were not surprised to hear, that this place is around for more than 34 years (which is quite something in SF) and is THE place of choice for Iranian people in the area. My highlights (of the many great dishes): If you are into lamb you have to try the lamb tongue - trust me, it's amazing For the drinks: They do a great Martini with lime and mint ... I did stick to that for the evening

Best Persian I've had

By travelmeisteren |

Great food and service yet again. We ate here twice while on vacation in the Bay Area. We’ve been going there for 15+ years and always have had great food. I use Maykadeh as my gauge for other Persian restaurants. Everything is good here.

Brilliant Persian Food

By Abbasali K |

Enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. Met with the owners and they were welcoming. The food was brilliant and what more to expect from Persian food except that it was filling and tasty.

My New Favorite Place in North Beach

By Scott W |

Amazing food (truly), nice ambience, great staff and we have not had a dish that wasn't perfect yet! We don't even eat dessert and we did! Thank you!

Excellent food

By werthmeister |

We decided to go to Maykadeh and see if it was as good as we remembered it. The previous night we had ventured to a new Persian restaurant for us, Alborz on Van Ness and Sutter, and found it to be very good and then we decided we wanted to compare it to Maykadeh on Green St in North Beach. The setting was as we remembered it and quite a few dinner parties were already there. We went without reservations and had no trouble to be seated immediately. I ordered the Koobideh, beef kabob, and my wife had the jujeh kabob, (chicken). The service was excellent and our food arrived within ten minutes of ordering. The kebab was as I remembered it, cook to perfection. The rice was also very good, but a bit overdone. The chicken kabob was also quite good. It was marinated by what must have been house special recipe as it wasn't done in the traditional way of using saffron as one of the main ingredients in the marinade. My wife being Persian was a little put out by this but still thought it was very good. Both kebabs were juicy, melt-in-your mouth delicious. The meal and the restaurant were as we fondly remembered them from our previous excursions there.

It Just Gets Better....

By OnAir813933 |

My second review of our local Persian Restaurant.....As an Iranian American, I can attest to you (bejooneman) this is the finest Persian Cuisine in the Bay, the State, if not the Country.....A wild claim, but this place has all the proper dishes, done just right, reminding me of what my grandmother used to make....the Shirazi is delicate and a great start, a salad of cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions in great soft dressing, the Kashke Bademjoon -- an eggplant dish that will rock your world. Took an American French trained chef friend for dinner there tonight....he was blown away...... The kebabs are delicate.....the Barg, the Koobideh, and the Joojeh kebab are the way to go.... The key with this place is to set aside some proper time for dinner...don't rush, order a couple of appetizers, some kebabs and enjoy the Persian ice cream for dinner... Service is incredible, the room very comfortable, and enjoy.......Persian at its finest...

Persian in North Beach

By Vibha R |

Delicious Persian food. Am a vegetarian so tanked up on the appetisers. My son liked his chicken very much while grumbling about prices. The restaurant does not take Amex so had to get the son to pay. They had a great chutney. Wish they had barberry pulao to round off the Persian experience

A delicious meal after a day full of walking and boat cruise.

By appledude1221 |

Today, We decided to eat dinner from Maykadeh, We got it thru grubhub. The food is absolutely delicious. We ate on the terrace at our hotel. Staff were very polite. I highly recommend this place when you visit san francisco

Excellent food

By PatriziaItaly |

Great persian food, we opted to stay in because of heavy fog, and ordered from maykadeh, the food arrived in time and it was very well packaged, you could see it was high end...i automatically assumed it was going to be good. The food was excellent and a lot of thoyght was put it in the take out...everything was included including mint keaves and radishes and lemon for our order. Koobideh was excellent, we ordered Pache soup it was also great...very good food and when we are back we will pay the restaurant a visit

Great atmosphere and good food

By ldhf |

A good sign that a place specialising in Persian cuisine is stuffed full of elegant Iranian families having a great night out! Service was very attentive, food was splendid with really rich, deep flavours. We will definitely return

Persian

By Lansi G |

Food was good, meat a little greasy, not too many options and not a lot of authentic Persian food. Couldn't really say the difference between Persian/Turkish or any other middle eastern food based on the menu. Staff was friendly and welcoming, restaurant was clean.

A bit pricey, but highly recommended!

By Glen D |

Like many other Kebab lovers, I ought to try any Kebab restaurant in cities I visit around the world. And Maykadeh Persian cuisine did not disappoint me, that's why I care to leave a positive review. The food was perfect in terms of taste, volume and authenticity of the main followed by specialty desserts. The only complaint I may have is the price, but if you walk into other restaurants around, you will find that it is not overpriced, as we spent around the same in almost every restaurant we visited in that area, but the food was not as fulfilling. The staff who took our orders did not know Persian at all, so they mixed up the foods original names while ordering, but no fuss at all. Apart from this, the service was good.

Rocky Mountain goodness

By awhitelady |

My cousin said we should try the Rocky Mountain Oysters for the first time. I was hesitant but glad we did. They were tender and reminded me of chicken meatballs. In total, we were a group of 7. The restaurant easily accommodated is and several other large parties. The variety of lamb dishes ordered were all very tender and delicious. This place is very good!

Persian Treat

By PeoriaAdvisor |

Excellent restaurant. Sabzi and bread were outstanding. Lamb kabob memorable. Khoresh Bademjan the best. Not as good a value as Reza's in Chicago but a must for anyone interested in Persian food in SF

Wonderful Persian Foodd

By Marti N |

We had a fantastic lunch here today. While not experts on Persian cooking we found the food delicious. The service was outstanding as well. Very professional and attentive. The restaurant is quite lovely with large windows overlooking Green Street. We felt the prices were very fair given the quality and portion size as well as the upscale atmosphere. The manager said they have been there for years, but we have never stumbled upon it. We will certainly be back.

Worth it! Try it!

By neversayneverFlorida |

This restaurant was very easy to find, tons of street parking. Went in to dine for lunch and it was amazing. Persians cuisine is very tricky to get right, the fact that this place is a staple says A LOT! I've been to probably 20-30 different Persian restaurants worldwide. We ordered: mast o khiar (cucumber yogurt), Cornish hen and koobideh! Every table automatically gets fresh herbs and fresh warm pita bread. If you have never tried Persian food, you must!!!! If you are a Persian food connoisseur it will not dissapoint. TRY, TRY, TRY!

Excellent!!!

Nice people, nice restaurant, good quality food. We really enjoyed lunch. The service was excellent and kind. Of course we will come back.

The Taste of a Refined and Ancient Civilization

By Andrew S |

It's only to be expected that a great civilization should offer a refined and delectable cuisine. Maykadeh meets that expectation. We were immediately served a tasty flatbread and raw vegetables as appetizers. We tried two typical Persian dishes: shish kebab and shishlik. Both were excellent, served with rice. At the waiter's suggestion, we sprinkled a reddish condiment over the rice which, together with butter, gave it a moist, tangy flavor. The meat could not have been better. In addition to beef and lamb, there are several chicken dishes and some seafood. We only regret not having tried a first course. Since the weather was hot, we had a cold dessert: faloodeh (with vermicelli noodles and rose water). There is a fine wine list, featuring, appropriately enough, various labels of shiraz/syrah (from California and elsewhere). The restaurant is located in North Beach, a lively and colorful walking area.

Yum!

By Allis0n_Smith |

We found this restaurant by watching the infomercials on the hotel TV and were intrigued. So glad that we actually took a chance. The meals are huge so come hungry. Make sure yo take the staff advice on the traditional way to eat the rice. You won't be disappointing.

Tasty persian food

By halone |

I've been advised by hotel tourist desk to try this restaurant, I went there twice. The service is excellent, they are very kind, informative and helpful. I had Kabab for one night and Baghali polo for another night, the meat for baghali polo wasn't as much as I can have in London's restaurant but was enough. BB, the waitresses was kind to all customers.

Mediocre

By Citygalfromthefarm |

Being married to an Iranian for over 30 years, I wanted to stop and eat at a Persian restaurant while we are in town. Even though Maykadeh is rated the 3rd to 2nd best restaurant in San Francisco it is by far I've any Persian food is according to the real Persians. The Koobideh is OK but it was cook too fast and turn on the outside. The masto moosir & ash were decent. The salad shirazi had way too much pepper in it and they didn't peel the cucumbers. We were satisfied since we were hungry but they could definitely use a new chef to teach them the true recipes of delicious yummy Persian food

Really good Persian food.. One of my faves is the "Lamb Tung" if you're into that. :)

Best Persian food

By Andreredseptember |

This restaurant was referred to me by a Persian ascend person and it was delicious . The eggplant appetiser was exceptional : warm, deliciously spiced. The lamb chops were of the highest quality : like you would love to find in a meat restaurant . Beyond Persian food per se, all ingredients were of the highest quality .

Persian wonders

By rustycat83 |

Love this authentic Persian restaurant. The wait staff are very friendly and enjoy explaining the many food options including ingrediants, preparation process, and spice variations. The food is excellent from the humus, yogurt, bread, Shirazi salad, and the many varieties of kebabs. We greatly enjoyed the meal and will be returning in the future.

The best!

By Saebr18 |

One of the best Persian restaurants I have ever been to. We all ordered soltanis which cooked perfectly. The best Persian restaurant in San Francisco

Four and a half, really.

By Alida S |

The half star off is for not having lavash bread, and the service, we sat for 10 minutes before we were able to get someone's attention, who spoke to someone, who spoke to someone else, who took some time (while not visibly doing anything) to come and ask about drinks, etc. I want to add that service was fine he rest of the meal, but it was a decidedly unfriendly note to start on. And we had just been to another Persian restaurant the night before, where the service experience had been so different. The food was nice, a bit different from the night before, but just as good. The hummus was outstanding!

Great food - a little slow

By MAnett |

We went for a family dinner, the 9 of us. We have ordered several dishes to share, all were very tasty, and filling. It is only the time that wasn't pleasing. We had reservation, still we had to wait like 20min. outside, then all the foods came quite slow, even the bill. The waiters were nice though.

A fine Iranian Cuisine

By Ahmed J |

It is a good restaurant, once you enter you would feel the Iranian touches and people. The food was good I liked the chicken kobeedah and their mast mousir was good as well. Two quick comments, the first thing you would expect with the appetizer is an iranian bread, but instead I was served some badly heated arabian bread. Secondly, the music was totally modern iranian hip-hop, which is fine, but I am not sure if it suited the classic dishes they serve, not to mention, when I left the music became American Jaz! All to all, it is a good restaurant, not the best I visited.

good Persian food in SF

By jocelynlee |

I had the lamb shank here; very very flavorful and fell right off the bone. YUMMY! Huge portions (i think it's family style) an if you can't finish it, pack up the leftovers; they're as good as they were when you first ate them!

Cold food, not very good food, very slow service

By Oncofighter |

I had come to this restaurant over 13 years ago and was impressed so I came back and brought a group of my non-Persian friends visiting from NYC. We were very unimpressed with the cold food and slow service. The cooks cannot be Persian... because the food was definitely not really authentic... the stews were not good. I would not go back... very unimpressed.

First keep in mind that there's no...

By Ttnax |

First keep in mind that there's no parking spot in front of the restaurant and they charge you 10 bucks for valet parking! The server is so unfriendly but noon and sabzi are the only good things you can eat there! We ordered jooje, soltani and shishlik and they were awful!!! They don't cook Irainian style! The shishlik meat was raw and koobide was awful!!! They charge you 2.5$ for a drink and bring it in qine glasses!!! And when you ask fir refil the server will respond that they don't have any refills!!! At last we paid 100 bucks fir 3 dushes but it really didn't worth it!!! I really don't recommend this awful restaurant!!

very tasty food

By Ssomy |

we tried kabab one night and the ghorme sabzi the second night! and both were so tasty and more than enough in quantity!

First time in a Persian restaurant - not bad

By Søren G |

Some of our friends had invited us to this nice restaurant in San Francisco for lunch, and even though the restaurant did not have a dedicated lunch menu, it was possible to find a very good meal at a fair price. The food was well prepared and was served with a smile. There was a nice atmosphere, though the music was at times a bit loud.

Classic Persian Cuisine Near North Beach

By Sarra Z |

I came here for a family dinner with a mix of Persian and non-Persian folks. The appetizers were great, and there were plenty of meal options for the few vegetarian members of our group. I, not being vegetarian, recommend the soltani. It can easily be shared between 2 people. Also, the red wine selection was good.

Yum!

By MarieMary0924 |

I had never tried Persian food before, so I was quite hesitant when my family wanted to go for dinner. The menu was very different than what I am used to, but I had a chicken and rice dish. The food was flavorful and well cooked. Our waiter was also friendly and efficient and our food came fairly quickly. For dessert, we tried the Bastani (Persian ice cream) which we all enjoyed. I find the prices to be reasonable compared to other restaurants in SF. If I ever go back to SF, I would definitely come back.

Get Ready to Indulge Yourself in Cow Brain, Cow Tongue, and Rocky Mountain Oysters

By thepersianwanderlust |

Driving from Union Square, it felt like we (my family of two kids and I) were on a roller coaster. We had to go up and down at least 15 or 20 of the extremely steep roads of San Francisco. The restaurant itself is situated on a very steep hill, and getting out of the car, I honestly thought that I was going to fall straight down. In face, my wife had to hold my hand in order to keep herself steady. Anyway, it was around 1PM on a Saturday afternoon, and the restaurant was completely uninhabited. In other words, we were the only ones there. So we sat down, having the whole restaurant to ourselves, and starting looking at the menu. Well, my two hungry kids were not able to find anything to eat. Personally, I thought that the cow brain and tongue were really tasty, and they're a must for major foodies. Fortunately, they brought some fresh Lavosh bread, and my kids were able to satisfy themselves with some bread and soda. *One important note- The Rocky Mountain Oysters are not actually oysters. They are cow testicles.

Familiar Middle-Eastern dishes with a twist. Try the Fallodeh (spelling?) dessert--very unusual and refreshing.

Not what we had in mind

By MAW54321 |

We love eating at interesting places, but we were really sorry that we did not walk out of this one after we were seated. The minimum charge for lunch was $15 per person. The hummus was only OK and the baba ganoush was tasteless, as was everything else. The service was horrible. We were the only customers except for a couple of guys who were clearly friends of the one service person working (combined maitre d/waiter/bartender). He seated us next to the guys, and then spent the entire time with his back to us at their table outlandishly guffawing, talking exceeding loudly, and ignoring us. When we got home, we found that he charged our credit card as a debit card, despite being told it was credit. The whole experience was unsavory and made us angry.

I love this place! I've been there 3 or 4 times and I would come back every week if I could. It's not cheap, but has the best Persian food I've ever had!!! :))

Prince of Persian food

By Olivier J |

After a first visit 6 years ago where I had the Khoresht Fesenjoon, this time I tried their famous Shish-Kebab - a juicy, tender, gigantic skewer of lamb fillet with saffron rice and tomato. We shared appetizers - the lamb tongue is a must-try, and the baba ghanoush and hummus are super tasty. Highly recommended for a true Iranian experience!

Excellent Persian food -- the real thing

By tmmahony |

The first time I went to Maykadeh a few years ago it was with an Iranian friend who considered it the best in SF. I recently had the chance to go back with my family, including a cousin who had never had Persian food before. He and I had the "chelo kebab koobideh", a minced beef and lamb (with onions and spices) and the others had "joojeh kebab", a boneless chicken dish. The beef/lamb kebab was outstanding and the chicken kebabs were also good, but a definite second to the former. Both came with generous servings of basmati rice and roasted tomatoes. We also ordered shirazi salad (chopped cucumbers, tomatos and onions in a sour dressing) and "mast-o-khiar" (a yougurt with cucumber dish). My cousin was very happy with the dinner and certainly no one went home hungry. For dessert with had the Persian tea and baklava. The tea was excellent but the baklava fell a bit short. All in all, though, the meal was fantastic and the service prompt, helpful and friendly. I have always been surprised that Persian food has not made more of an inroad in the US -- hopefully the Maykadeh will start a trend.

Awful! If you’re looking for

By Nina |

Awful! If you’re looking for an authentic Iranian food save your money and go somewhere else in the city Horrible customer service ! Inside the restaurant was smelly and dirty washroom Knowing there is corona and virus they didn’t even bother trying to keep the washrooms clean ! The customer service was horrible and somewhat ignorant The food is not even good I asked for jooje kebab with Zereshk polo they brought me chicken with pesto sauce on it and barley any zeresh on my rice and the funny thing they had the nerve to charge us so much extra for absolutely nothing ! The money would have not been an issue if the food was good And when I brought up the issues with the manager he simply said this is San Fran and that’s how it is It’s a joke! I’ve had many wonderful food in San Francisco and ive been to million Iranian restaurant this by far has been the worse

Excellent Persian Food

By Samrah A |

I've eaten here twice. Was introduced to it by a patron who has eaten there weekly for years. You will see customers like this in the restaurant, which is a good sign! On this visit, we made a reservation and when I arrived it was full. So I sat at the very cute little bar which I had not noticed before and had a great Persian martini (since you're asking, it has pomegranate and lime and mint). My dinner companion was late so it all worked out well. He had the badimjan (eggplant) and lamb and I had the fasinjoon - both of these are slow-cooked stews. Both were great! The best rice (well, Persian rice is always good). Although it is a small place and was packed, the seating is very comfortable and the hosts and staff are attentive.

Best Persian Food in San Francisco

By MrNice2015 |

The joojeh kebab is amazing and so are the appetizers. Service is good and they have valet parking. Open all day as well.

cute location, good Persian food, a bit dark inside

By pourpre |

This restaurant is at the bottom of a steep hilly street and parking is mostly valet ($10) or searching on the streets nearby (difficult). The street continues more flat into the Italian neighborhood and restaurants. The Persian food is good, we had beef koobideh but the lamb chops were too burnt. The restaurant can seat many people but it is overall a little too dark. A new carpet or clear flooring would be welcome. It filled up quickly as many nationalities love Persian food and it is advertised in SF hotels. I heard that a new Persian restaurant named Anar has opened in SF and it might be worth the try. This one was ok but the overall experience was just ok.

Delicious Food, Friendly Staff

By Maryam G |

We dined at Meykadeh during a busy street fare. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly—and extremely patient with a two-year-old in our group who made a mess!We definitely recommend their ghormeh sabzi and fesenjoon. Their kabobs are great too.

Mmmm persian. It is the...

By Sasha B |

Mmmm persian. It is the "fancy" persian resturant in San Francisco. Surrounded by the bland Italian that encompasses most of north beach this is a gem. The decor is brilliant. The tourist to local ratio is even and the majority of patrons are persian. kabobs and gourmet sabzi is my personal favourite. If you feel lost the staff can help you find what you are looking for. A good choice for meat eaters and maybe a bit more vegitarian friendly than the surrounding resturants.

Delicious Food

Loved the food.Went with a group and ate heartful. The lamb entrees are to die for. The baklawa is the best we've ever had. Hope to go back when we're back in SFO.

An Underrated Gem in the City!!

By kimi1965 |

Took a few friends here when we were in town for a conference and I hadn't been there in many years. Good to know, they have not changed. Food was fresh, so plentiful and just as wonderful as I remember. I have made new fans out of my pals and I can't wait to go back. I loved that they made the Joojeh Kabob family style for us with the sublime saffron rice. The pitas and basil are TDF as they always were.. Split a great bottle of Malbec. So much to love here. Nice people too and always easy to park here with the valet, though we Uber'd. An under-rated gem in the city!!

the food it's just fenomenal

One of the best restaurant in SF there are no words to describe how good is the food it's just fenomenal

A very DISAPPOINTING rep. for Persian cuisine!!!

By Sherpa19602780908 |

I would give a ZERO if I could!!!!!!! Today, I ordered 2 Kashke Bademjan & Baghali Polo(Sunday Only) with lamb shank from Maykadeh and it was the most disappointing food I could ever order. First of all the portions were a child’s meal portion . It was only bunch of oil and smelly meat Kashkeh Bademjan and Polo was a joke . No flavor !!They gave us hardly any bread to go with Kashkeh Bademjan . The two prices of bread they gave us were awful . Couldn’t even eat the food , after my second chew I had to stop . DISAPPOINTING all the way! The food was bad but the person who answered the phone was horrible. She was so unprofessional & ignorant. There is no way I would order again . They should close this restaurant. A very bad rep. for Persian cuisine!!!!

For the love of Persian food

By FatemahQ |

It's been a while since we tried Persian food so I decided to try this restaurant. I had Gorma Sabzi which is a meat veggie stew. The taste was really good I would say 4 out of five. Service wise, the waitress was a bit slow in taking our order and surprisingly refused the split the bill into 6. She said the max she can split is into 2, which never happened to is before. The sitting area was nice. I you are into Persian food I would recommend to visit this place in you're visiting San Fran.

What an incredible restaurant!

By Paul B |

I had the most amazing meal at Maykadeh last week while on a 4 day visit to San Francisco. The staff was so friendly, restaurant impeccably clean and beautiful and the food - OMG. Where do I begin? My mother is from the Middle East so I was raised on this cuisine and Maykadeh presented the finest lamb shish kebab I have ever had. I will absolutely be coming back to have another inspiring meal at Maykadeh.

Simply Delicious!

By sdtourist |

we have been impressed by this restaurant for a long time. I'm Persian and somewhat picky about what I eat. I have nothing but praise for the quality of food at this restaurant. We certainly don't miss going to this restaurant anytime we're in SF. Service is good and I appreciate the valet in front of the restaurant. Serving Halal meat is certainly a big plus for me.

Still good food

By M4538PTmm |

Each time we go to San Francisco we go to this restaurant Food was really good and the service was good as well. Definitely try the Barg Kebob and mast o moser. Only issue with this place is it need of a renovation badly. Only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

Unique experience

By Hiloschild808 |

It was a unique experience to have Middle Eastern cuisine. It was an unexpected opportunity to try the cuisine, in a not too comfortable area of the city.

definitely worth a try

By ZJ-2018 |

Great appetizers and dugh. Ok rice and chicken. I was disappointed to see white pita as the pre-appetizer bread. Definitely worth a try. Nice location and ambience.

Dekicuous

All four of us enjoyed our dinner at Maykadeh. We started with the fancy salad, which had lettuce, cooked pears, and beets. Two of us had salmon with roasted zucchini; the other two had an eggplant dish that they adapted to be vegetarian.

Excellent Persian Restaurant in SF

By Raymond H |

Visiting from Los Angeles, I wanted some Persian food in SF. Looked up Maykadeh and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is average size and well laid out. The food is tasty but on the more expensive side but the portions are good. They have a bar and parking is with a valet (I paid $10). I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Delicious authentic Persian food

By northernlighter |

This has been one of my San Francisco frequent stops whenever I come to the city. Among my favorites, lamb tongue in saffron that melts in your mouth, juicy and tender lamb shank, and sweet & the very unique fallodeh topped with pistachio ice cream (semi frozen crystal vermicelli noodles in sweet rose water). Their fallodeh tastes even better than those I had in Shiraz, where it originated. I also love their warm fresh Persian bread served with a meal!

Excellent Persian food

By travelmeisteren |

We had dinner here a few weeks ago with the family. I tried something new; a ghorme sabzee lamb shank. It was wonderful – even though I’m not a huge lamb fan. Nice and tasty and super tender. My wife went with two skewers of Chelo-kebab Koobideh (a mixture of ground beef and lamb). We also tried a couple apps: Baba ghanoush (smoked/pureed eggplant) and feta cheese spread. The family liked the eggplant and I liked the feta cheese spread. We finished off with cream caramel. As always, all the food was very tasty. Service is also great here. The only downfall of this area is the horrible lack of parking availability. But that’s San Francisco for you. Go here for wonderful Persian food.

Great joojeh!

By travelmeisteren |

Seems to be under new ownership (well, at least for me since it's been 7 years since my last visit). Service was fine, just different folks serving -- and it seemed only one Persian worker. I had an appetizer of chicken koobidah. It was plain and boring. My in-laws all loved the lamb/beef koobidah. My main of chicken joojeh was as good as I had remembered. As another poster stated, parking around here is very difficult -- a reason I didn't want to return. If you go, carpool and get as many people into one vehicle as possible since you're going to have trouble finding street parking -- or pay a lot for a garage of valet parking.

Not very authentic

By M Sasar |

The price is too steep. And, the food seems to be a mix of Persian and Indian... Stuff that spposed to be sour were too spicy, spicy ones were too sweet

Delicious and flavorful!!

By rphmama |

After a long walk from our hotel in financial district to north beach, we arrived here hungry... and were not disappointed! The staff was very curteous. They sat us right away. They immediately brought warm lavash bread with butter and fresh herbs.. We ordered the shirazi salad (made just right with lemon juice and pepper). The kabab was perfect.. tasted fresh... with the right seasoning ... just like how my grandmother used to make it. The homemade doogh(yougurt drink) was delicious.. as well as the kash-e-bademjoon. Overall, we realy enjoyed this meal and if you like persian food, this is a must try place in San Francisco!

Very good Persian food

By Kalark |

I really liked the food. The chicken chelo kebab was tender and tasty. The service was good. Though to find a parking outsode was a nightmare.

Extremely overpriced with small portions and not very clean.

By David X |

Ordered one Soltani (beef) $36 with 2 soft drinks came to over $60 before my $10 tip (was X-mas), the charge included 6 pita bread (equal to one bag which costs 35 cents at any middle eastern grocery store) which we had not ordered. I witnessed the waitress moved a piece of dirty floor covering and then grabbed glassware by the rims with her dirty (unwashed) hands.

From a Persian: Totally disappointed

By Nomnomyum |

This place has a nice enough location and ambiance, but the food is absolutely sub-par. It would be disappointing even if it were 50% cheaper. My father said it was one of the worst kabobs he's ever had, and he makes it a point to go to a chelokabobi everywhere he goes. I had the sabzi polo mahi (rice with greens and seabass, a Persian new year tradition), which was alright. My parents had kabobs both and both could only eat a few bites. It cost us $140 to get some food to give to the homeless! The Rocky Mountain Oysters are ok, but not traditional Iranian, which is grilled. The waitstaff was fine, although there were 4 different people taking our orders. At the end, right when the check came, a girl came by and put a fresh plate of bread on our table. We figured it was a mistake. Then a couple of minutes later, she came and picked it up and moved it to the new table next to us. I've never known anywhere else where it's ok to pick up food from one table and put it on another, even if it hasn't been touched. All in all, you're probably way better off just attempting to make Persian food yourself. If you're Persian yourself, don't even bother. WAAAAAAY overpriced for bad food.

Delicious Persian from an old school neighborhood restaurant

By bookem50 |

I've been coming to Maykadeh for years since they first opened in the early 80s. Still consistently delicious over time. Personal favorites are the Chelo Kebab Koobideh (ground CAB and lamb) and the Barg (fliet mignon). With the combination of aromatics and basmati rice, the food teases the taste buds differently from normal Western-style cuisine. Parking is difficult but valet service available at reasonable price of $10. Of course, if you know North Beach there are hidden parking spots on the streets nearby.

SUPERB

By newblueroo |

Flavourful, fresh, top-notch service. Even the Iranian's seated next to me stated that this was superb Perisan food. Yum! Wine by the glass was a tad pricey.

Poor customer service.

By Masoud M |

Ordered food for delivery. After two calls finally got it two hours later than promised. Asked to be put in touch with the manger but after four days have yet to receive the requested call back.

Top notch Persian Cuisine

By Steven S |

This simple store-front restaurant offers absolutely outstanding, authentic Persian Cuisine. I doubt that you would find better anywhere on the planet!

best Persian in the area

By Jerry B |

The only drawback to this great place is the parking. North Beach can be a huge challenge especially on the weekend. Make a reservation and plan ahead. The ground chicken is really good as is the hummus. Fairly reasonable for the amount of food you get. Suggest using yiour parking garage app to find one.

Good food poor service

By Allen T |

Came here for a late lunch. Ordered koobideh, food was really good. The service was average at best. I would come for food but don't expect much for service.

Great food and excellent service.

By rarbabi |

We were visiting the Bay Area and were taken to Maykadeh for lunch. The quality of food was high and the service was excellent. The filet kabob was cooked to perfection and the koobideh was flavorful and juicy. The sabzi was fresh. The presentation of the dishes were traditional and beautiful.

Authentic Persian Cuisine - Don't Miss!

By Adrineh G |

We absolutely LOVE Maykadeh! Growing up in a Persian-Armenian family has made me a bit of a "kebab snob"...this place does not disappoint! Not only do we frequent Maykadeh whenever we need a little taste of home (without all the work) but we make sure to take ALL of our out-of-town guests here. Always a hit! The Barg is my all time favorite. A few insider tips: when your food arrives, grab a pat of butter and bury it deep in the aromatic Basmati rice (yes, that's what the butter on your table is for). Once the butter is melted, sprinkle some of the sumac on the rice as well as in filet mignon kebab (Barg) and enjoy! (Make sure to check your smile, though. This spice has a funny way of getting lodged in between teeth). Start off with the Salad Shirazi - a simple yet refreshing tomato, cucumber, and onion salad. For dessert, don't miss the Bastani. It's a rich, rose water infused ice cream with bits of frozen cream and pistachios. Worth every penny, Maykadeh Is truly a delectable gem in our fair city!

Be careful for the BILL!

By Paride V |

Average good food. But first of all the tip of 16% was already added on the bill! Then the waiters were really in rush and didn't care of our question. And to pay they bring our credit cards into a different room because they said they didn't have any portable machine. Is it possible in a respectable restaurant in Little Italy in San Francisco? The service needs to be improved.

Delicious...upscale atmosphere...good service

By nadomom2 |

My family and I really miss Helmand since they moved to Van Ness. We enjoyed our meal at Maykadeh, our substitute for Helmand. We had too many items to mention. Although I was the only one partaking of the brain appetizer. Loved it. The quality of the each dish was very good. We will come back again.

Excellent, Authentic, Persian Food

By CaroleeBlake |

We went here for Mother's Day. It was easy to find, they had wonderful valet parking ($10), the food was abolutely amazing, the service was phenomenal, and the experience was highly memorable. When I told friends about our dinner, a Persian friend said to me, "wow, you went to the best of the best. Even Persian people eat there." :)

Delicious and Authentic Persian Food

By Amy W |

This little place in North Beach was really delicious. I was lucky to have a Persian friend take me here and do all the ordering. We started with a fresh yogurt spread, then enjoyed some delicious chicken and beef. The service was good and the food was delicious. Definitely check it out!

Very delicious food. Friendly staff

During my sfo visit. Looking for some halal food. Refered by a friend to this Persian restaurant. Dine there for dinner with my group. Very delicious food. Quantity is very sufficient. Tried both lamb and chicken dishes. Very tasty.

What is that chicken with basmati rice? The best dish there...chicken is very tender and flavorful

By Hanie G |

The best Persian Restourant in Bay Area. High quality. Perfect customer service. Perfect ambiance. I always order Barg. It is perfect. All dishes are perfect, Kashke bademjan is my favorite as well. I am persian, I know persian food. We invited our American or European friends to Meykadeh, they all love the place and the food. We go to Maykadeh at Least twice a month. Highly recommended.

Excellent Persian Food

By Keith M |

Service and food were excellent! Wait staff was very attentive. Generous portions and reasonable prices. We had the Chelo-kebab Koobideh (Skewered mixture of Certified Angus Beef and leg of lamb. ground daily, onion, Persian spices) and Breast Kebab (Marinated boneless breast of chicken in onion, basil, lime juice, vegetables) both with Basmati Rice.

Apfghani food

By John A |

If you like Afghani food, this is the place to go to. We love the way they cook their lamb. I even tried a pumpkin desert and I was amazed how tasty it was.

Low quality and very expensive!

By florida1998 |

We ate in this restaurant during our visit to San Francisco. Definitely not recommended! Low quality food for the price.

Really good food spotty service

By mikegol |

Came for lunch on a sunday. First ones there at noon. Seated promptly. Then had to wait 15 minutes before being acknowledge by waitress despite standing up and waving twice. Food very good kabobs high quality, koubideh and barg. The kashkeh bademjan (eggplant) very good as well. The yogurt drink, dough needed some more club soda or fizz. What brought this place down was the incredibly slow and uneven service. Not that busy but understaffed and could have been better.

Most crooked Resturant I been to. Dishonest and illegal

By Mustafa A |

We have visited over 100 restaurants in San Francisco, but this restaurant is by far the most dishonest and unprofessional we’ve been to. We drove 40 miles to dine here, only to find that they were charging $20 for parking on a public street. When I questioned the fee, one of the staff members pointed to a lengthy sign reading "passenger loading." Which have nothing to do With the fees they charging. Inside, we were watched by two Asian females and the same man who informed us about the parking charge. Their behaviour toward us felt very odd. We ordered our meal and, when it was time to get the bill, we were handed a handwritten receipt with an incorrectly calculated sales tax. Additionally, a $24 service charge was added without any prior notification and was added as a tip to the final receipt without me giving them any tip. We didn’t get copy of detailed receipt of what we ordered. It was stabled with the merchant receipt. The parking also only taking cash and doesn’t give a receipt to show you paid them for a street parking. He told me to go the corner store to get cash, I told him I can’t go there I have kids, he took my card and went inside and added as a tip again. This level of misconduct deserves the attention of the state and Tax Franchise Board. We were really racially profiled. One of the women even mugged my children few times and packed our food and handed it to us in a used plastic bag, while other customers were given new bags and paper bags. This discriminatory behaviour, along with what appears to be illegal practices, is very unacceptable. As a business owner, you are required to use a proper point-of-sale (POS) system that calculates accurate taxes and provides transparency to your customer and give them a detailed receipt for their records. You are also obligated to follow the law, particularly SB-478, the Consumers Legal Remedies Act. To the costumer, while spending hundreds of dollars on a meal, be aware of unethical practices at this Resturant. I recommend exploring other restaurants in San Francisco where you will be treated fairly and charged appropriately.

Just OK

By Niikdoost N |

After reading the other reviews we had expected something real good, but got disappointed. at average at its maximum. And Definitely not serving Persian Ghormeh Sabzi :( but something overcooked, green, sweet, .... We will find somewhere better next time.

Acceptable

By UglyBuffalo |

Persian food is getting hard to find and good Persian food is even more scarce. This restaurant has a nice atmosphere. Service is nothing special. I hadn't had Persian food in a long while, so I ate everything and enjoyed it. The reality is that I cook these dishes as well myself. It isn't bad, but I've had better.

Great food, Great Service Despite a Very Busy Evening

By Pi_Beach |

Came in on a very busy Friday evening for dinner. Looks like a large part of the restaurant was taken over by some kind of business or company function. So the place wa a bit crowded. Good thing I called ahead to make a reservation. We were seated right away when we arrived. Despite a very busy evening, our server was great, explained the menu, took our orders and checked on us from time to time. While waiting for our food, we were served warm delicious flatbread. The food came in quick. We had the koobideh and soltani --- they were delicious and the meat were tender. The servings were large portions that we have to take some home with us. For desserts we had creme caramel and poached pear with ice cream which were good compliment for the dinner. Overall good dining experience. I don't mind coming back here when in town; hopefully, in not so busy times. Note that self parking is non-existent nearby but they have a valet parking for $12.

Delicious Food and Great Service

By Amir T |

I had lunch with my wife at Maykadeh last week and we both think everything was great. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are craving for some Persian food.

Persian best

By DineAboutWorld |

Love the decades old Persian eatery...almost consistent and enjoyable. Baby poussin and the best lamb sausage on skewers! The Maleks are great hosts too.

Wonderful Persian Meal

By machoopes |

This was recommended by our Iranian friends and it didn't disappoint. North Beach location made it a nice walk from the Ghirardelli Square area. The food was flavorful, the wine selection was good and the service was great. We went with the suggestions of our waiter. The saffron pistachio ice cream was the perfect end to the meal. We would definitely go back.

Not the best Persian restaurent

By AliBani6 |

We ordered jooje kabab and koobideh. Koobideh was ok but the jooje kabab was really bad, not tender and juicy ( persian style) at all!!!

Worth the walk!

By florida0924 |

Ate here with my family while vacationing in San Francisco. It was the first time eating Persian food so I was not quite sure what to expect. The staff was great and service fast and friendly. I had a lamb dish which had split peas in a sauce. My daughter had a chicken and rice dish. Both dishes tasty but I preferred my daughter's choice. Will recommend this restaurant and will definitely eat here again if my travels bring me back to San Francisco.

Wonderful!

By brijasm |

We recently ate at Maykadeh after seeing an advertisement for the restaurant on the 'local to-do' channel in the hotel. We were drooling over the food on the t.v. and it was for once truth in advertising. I got the signature Maykadeh kabob which is made with filet mignon and it was absolutely amazing. I ate it with the fresh onion and basil that they serve and the souvlaki that I ordered as an appetizer. The dish came with a generous portion of basmati rice cooked perfectly. It is the best rice that I have ever eaten. Ever. It was flavorful and soft without being sticky. My friend ordered the lamb kabob and was just as impressed.

Succulent kebabs and delicious Persian entrées.

By 6sigmax |

Tender and juicy kebabs served with aromatic saffron rice are a culinary treat not to be missed. The ambiance is very cozy and the staff are super friendly.

Almost a Persian at every table - always a good sign.

By KHSLex |

We enjoyed our meal here. We all love Persian food and always try to find one when we travel. Gormeh Sabzi is my favorite and it was very good (I personally don't love lamb - I would have preferred beef), the rest of my family got koobideh and said it was awesome. We also enjoyed mast o musir, mast o khiar and bodemjun. Definitely give it a try if you are in the mood for Persian.

Good location, but venue smell and service needs attention

By Raminsh |

Went in for lunch. As we entered, the sharp smell of rotten onion circled us. This was very irritating from an Iranian food venue... the smell of kabab, safran and plenty other odours were more expected. The service was also below average with the waitress failing to understsnd that one of us wanted an extra skewer of chicken thighs in addition to our lamb 'barg' meal. She brought a 'mince chicken' skewer as an extra, and only later we were informed by the owner they do not make a chiken thigh skewer as extra!!! What? Is this America or Soviet Union?

Excellent Persian food, relaxed atmosphere

By Mehdi J |

We went as a group and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There is large selection of appetizers and traditional Persian entrees. All the appetizers we tried were very good, probably the lamb tongue being the best. They also had broiled brains as appetizer but we did not try it. The main dishes that we tried were: kaban koobideh (skewered ground beef kebab), eggplant stew, and ghormeh sabzi (vegetable stew). Every one of our group was thoroughly happy with their meals. The service was friendly and relaxed. Not the place to go for a quick meal but a place to sit down and enjoy the meal. I recommend the lamb tongue as appetizer. We tried a bottle of Zinfandel which was also very good. The bill surprised us by being very reasonable. Good value for the money.

First time charm!

By Amicabella |

Our taxi driver recommended this place on our way to the airport. Never had Persian food before, but I was excited to try it. After my meal at Maykadeh, I will definitely be back for more. We ordered the Basmati rice and lamb chops. Both were delicious, especially the lamb. It was cooked to perfection.

Excellent food , professional and caring staff

By Ary M |

The location was exellent, setting was amazing , within walking distance to downtown financial district) the food were delicious , we had mix kabob and one khoresh bademjan( egg plant stew with lamb shank) and were tasty with reasonable spices and side orders. The gentleman who served us is very friendly and professional , We are very happy to explore this nice persian restaurant in San Francisco.

Consistently a winner

By Jane D |

We’ve always been very happy with our meals here. We’ve eaten at Maykadeh a number of times over the past years. The food and service have always been very good. I do like the white linen; fewer restaurants are doing that. It’s a classy place. The first time we order the sheep head for novelty; but now we order it because it is delicious. Yes, the prices are higher than at my local Persian restaurant, but everything is a better at Maykadeh so paying a bit more is worth it.

To repeat

By azofaifo_romani |

Typical Persian food, with lifelong Persian customers. Quality, quantity, original products (no adaptations) and reasonable prices. The area is nice and bustling. Looks like any part of a European city. We felt at home.
