Yum

By Smaile L |

We stopped here because it was close to our hotel. The food was delish and my margarita was amazing (3g's). Service was great and I'd say it was a pretty family friendly restaurant. If I were in town i'd go again!

Hmmm...

By @Rmgomez01 |

The food was okay nothing special. My children shared super nachos. Usually super nachos come with steak or chicken but theirs in particular didn't. When we asked the waitress for steak she was reluctant and was pretty rude. We said we would pay extra but she said they couldn't because they were about to shutdown the kitchen. She was rushing us. We felt uncomfortable. The prize is right but the food is ehhh.

Average food with great service.

By MollyU |

The restaurant was close to our hotel so we walked there during the afternoon on a weekday. Restaurant was practically empty. Our server, sergio, was very friendly and attentive. Nachos with asada were edible. Drinks were okay. Prices are affordable for the area. Lots of seating and nicely themed decorated. Decent parking on the side of the building as well.

Convenient full-service Mexican

By Eugene F |

On game days and when people are out-and-about, this restaurant teems with customers. This particular afternoon it was quiet, so I stopped in for a leisurely lunch and enjoyed my chips and salsa as I waited for my taco and enchilada combination. The service was very good, though there were few customers. The menu is extensive. The food quality was average, but I asked for asada in my enchilada, and I was impressed by the quality and flavor of the meat. The meal was appropriately priced. I will definitely return

Good food and service, would return

By Tony |

Stopped by mid-week about 5PM, and got seated right away. Found the service to be very attentive, the food very good, expecially for the price. Very large portions, and hot. Could not see any reason why I would not return.

Great Time

By MJSalem |

We went here after a Timbers game to grab some food and a drink. Were pleasantly surprised at how fun the place was. Definitely return

Great Mexican Restaurant

By HJL5690 |

Super service. Great food. Huge potions. Everyone liked their food. Chips and Salsa was terrific. Husband would have liked his hot sauce, (special ordered) hotter, but the rest of us were very happy.

Favorite Place for Mexican in PDX

By Andrew |

We go here once a week. Delicious old school Meximerican fare. Not a "foodie" establishment, just great service and large portions of tasty food. Abundant parking which is rare for the area.

Good Pre-Game Meal by Providence Park

By Phil S |

Stopped by for dinner before a Thorns game. The place was cheerful and friendly, and very busy (there was a game, right?). So service was a little slow. Our server got chips, salsa and drink to the table quickly so the delay wasn't an issue. My daughter and I ordered the pork carnitas and were delighted with the meal. We were served large portions of tender, moist pork, lightly seasoned and thoroughly delicious. The plates came with pico de gallo and guacamole; the pico de gallo was particularly tasty. The tortillas, refried beans and rice were good if unexceptional. Recommend Mazatlan without reservation to friends and family.

Nice Mexican Restaurant in Portland

By CDCwoman |

After spending all day walking around the zoo, we came here with friends and family, large group, and found this place very accommodating. It was hot out but the place was cool. Everything was clean: tables, chairs, and bathrooms. We found the food delicious and hot (temperature--not just chili hot). Our teenagers and children found the food not too hot, when they requested, still delicious. Portions are big. The margaritas were huge, but good. My order had shrimp in it--it was fresh and deveined. Will be back!

Standard Mexican cuisine

By Matt G |

Came here after the Timbers v Sounders match to recharge. Ordered up the steak fajitas, received the standard three plates full of steak/veggies/rice/guacamole/enough sour cream to stop the heart of a polar bear (who is eating this much sour cream?!). Nothing unusual, exactly what I have seen at literally every Mexican restaurant I've ever visited. Definitely brought me back to life after a long exciting day of drinking and partying.

very good meals.

By Taniasolmelia |

its a nice place where they do one of best margaritas.and they do nice dishes as well.service is OK .but for sure I will go back just for the margaritas they do.

Reasonable and Tasty

By Ljh |

I went here for dinner on a recent trip to Portland and enjoyed a Chicken Tostada. The portion was very generous, especially for the price. The wait staff was attentive and I left full and happy!

Open air feeling, excellent food

By MarkV709 |

We sampled a lot of their appetizers to get a good feel for their cooking. As I recall they had special $5 selections and special drink prices. Wait staff was exceptionally friendly, food choices were very good, prices were very good and we'll be back to try a real dinner next time.

Early lunch at 11am, still great service and food

By Dennis F |

Needed to take an early lunch and so came here at opening — 11am. Good atmosphere and great service and food. The chili verde burrito has excellent flavors.

Surprised at how good this was

By Dan F |

Went on a whim before a Timbers game and the portion sizes were BIG. Really enjoyed the fajitas, without the tortillas this could easily have been a stir fry, Mexican style. Burritos were really big, tamales were pretty authentic as was the Chile relleno. Highly recommend

Great service and tasty food

By vancouversmithy |

We went for dinner. The place is quite large but it wasn't very busy. Family friendly. We got there for happy hour so had a couple of margaritas which were pretty good. The meals were nice, kids meals were also good.

Good price

By Don H |

Pretty good standard americanized Mexican food. Not street food. Not some fancy fusion menu. Just your usual enchiladas, rice, beans Staff is friendly with great atmosphere and fast service

Great location and outdoor seating, average food

By pkrissel |

On a nice day, having an average Mexican meal outdoors is just fine. However, if you focus on the food only, don't expect much more than average food. I had the chicken mole. That dish is a test of how good a Mexican restaurant is in my view, since it is one of the more difficult to do well. A true hand crafted mole is delightful. Unfortunately, the mole sauce was very mediocre. Very little flavor, quite bland, and served relatively cold, with a lumpy pudding like texture. The chicken pieces were overdone and tough. The beans and rice were average at best. I had asked for corn tortillas, which never came, even though others at my table were served theirs. Looking at the other dishes, they seemed to be of generous proportions and looked appealing. I would stick with the standards and give the more complex dishes a pass.

If you want bland, tasteless Mexican food, at an overly expensive price, this is the place!

By sexybaby7399 |

We went here over this last weekend with another couple to celebrate my wife's brother's birthday. I had eaten year's ago at a Mazatlan in Bend, Or and complained for years about how it was the worst Mexican food I had ever had. When a larger version of this same group we were with to celebrate the birthday invited us to join them at the Mazatlan in Milwaukie my wife persuaded me to join her and we ate there and I had to agree with her that it was not too bad. This time I went along with them to the Mazatlan on Morrison next to Civic Stadium. My wife and I elected to split a combination beef enchilada and chile regeno with retried beans and rice combo for $12.95 and I had the 16 oz Standard margarita for $9 and she had the 16 oz Cadillac Margarita for $13. The best thing we ate the whole night was the fresh corn chips with a spicy salsa that was complimentary. We both agreed that the beef enchilada and the chile regeno were exceedingly bland and tasteless! The refried beans did not even have any sauce on it and the rice was naked with no chilies to enliven it and both were also tasteless. I sampled part of a beef burrito that one friend did not finish and quickly found out why that was the case as it was also bland, dry and tasteless. The 16 oz standard margarita was good but the Cadillac margarita did not taste as good to me as the standard one and was certainly not worth the price difference! Both my wife and I are lovers of Mexican food and we both agreed that we would pass on any other invitation to Mazatlan and would actively attempt to persuade others to go elsewhere for their Mexican food cravings! There are a lot of good alternatives available!

Basic mexican- great tamales

By TT442 |

I ordered the no5 combo, taco, burrito and tamale. The tamale was one of the best I have had , the others were okay. The plate arrived and it looked slopped together. Based on the sogginess of the burrito and how quick it was ready, I assumed that it was all microwaved. My overpriced cocktail, the hurricane, was gross, mostly because it was more melon liqueur and very little rum. Overall, I can understand why it was empty when I arrived. Service was attentive though.

Poor service, good food.

By jaime_pdx |

We dined on a Monday afternoon, about two o'clock. The clientele was okay. Lots of families... a couple and their friends and children celebrating a birthday, dads and sons ready for the game at PGE.. that sort of atmosphere. The food was served in a timely manner, and it was good. The prices were decent, although some of the items were overpriced while some even seemed underpriced. Our server however, was slightly unprofessional. Very forgetful and extremely weird about the order in which he completed tasks (i.e. wiping a table before running our check or only bringing one refill drink to the table). The friendliest he was towards us was when he returned out ran credit card and receipt and gave that fake thanks for coming in... (don't forget my tip..) little line at the end of the meal. It was a little disheartening to say the least. Not sure I'll return. Maybe happy hour turns out to be a better deal? Not sure though because there weren't prices listed on any of their alcoholic drinks. That's usually a warning that they're a tad overpriced... We'll see.

Fun!

By dlsgoddess |

The food is good, the service excellent, with a very friendly feeling. The waiters make you feel so at home you almost do not want to leave!

Great bar, restaurant, karaoke!

By Nathan U |

Great place to either wind down or get the night started! Friendly staff, awesome drinks and food. Quesadilla appetizer is a must with drinks.

Good Mexican Food

By R D |

The food was really good! But the restaurant was a little run down! It seemed kinda old inside. The table cloth seems dirty, but I still loved the food! So, I overlooked the building to say- Good food!

Good meal, better Margarita's

By Nate C |

Went here before a game with several friends. What a great location just a block from the stadium. Food was pretty standard Mexican. Staff was nice and responsive. They make great Margarita's. They have a dedicated bar with sports on the tube and when you are done an easy stroll to the stadium for a game.

Outstanding service

By Carl R |

Big restaurant with lots of parking right on Burnside ace. Good margaritas. Average American style Mexican food with big portions. The bar is really a nice place to watch soccer or football; happy hour from 4-7 (I think) . We got the happy hour carne asana nachos with guacamole, sour cream, and lots of meat. It was plenty for two

Nice Afternoon Stop

By Michele S |

They accompanied us as a table of 8 adults and 6 kids with no reservation for a 2pm lunch on a Saturday. Good drinks (I esp liked the pitcher of house margaritas), friendly staff and average American style Mexican food.

Standard Mexican fare

By Kevan R |

Enjoyed Nachos that was a good serving size, not too large. Decent service. Nothing that I experienced sets this Mexican restaurant apart from 100s of others, but maybe consistency is a good thing.

Look Elsewhere

By FunLovin' |

Good service, but the food was bland, uninteresting, and served lukewarm. It was just not that great.

"Old school in a good way"

By Joe C |

I have been going here for years but never have reviewed them. What I like about this place is they are consistently good as far as their quality of food, service and cocktails. While this neighborhood has evolved, mostly in good ways it has lost some of its soul as far as traditional dining and drinking spots which have been replaced by trendy concepts that are here today and will be gone tomorrow. Yes the menu selections here are somewhat predictable but they are executed well. The food is always hot and presented tastefully. The bartenders and servers are very friendly and truly care about your dining experience. I especially like your 3G's margarita ( $11.00) which is well-made with quality ingredients including an ample amount tequila. They also don't skimp on their five dollar happy hour margarita. As far as the menu and it's selection, there are lots of choices and everything I've had has been delicious.I especially like enchiladas and they have been consistently good regardless of the type that I have ordered. I have enjoyed their ceviche, whether it be the fish, or the shrimp version. The service has been really good, I have heard during peak times surrounding the Timbers games that it can be a tad slow. In my opinion, that is to be expected when a restaurant gets a large amount of business all at once which is the trend when there is a popular event at the nearby stadium.

Evergreen Mexicano

By Kalkiavatar5 |

Good nice place. Came back to it after 6 years. Still holds it’s simplicity and charm. Excellent location and very friendly staff. Made a serving specifically for me. Quick and efficient service. Reasonably priced.

Great service, great drinks, Tex Mex love

By M R |

Tex-Mex in Portland can be hit-or-miss. My friends and I have been enjoying Mazatlan's comfort food for 10 years now with no complaints, so I think it's a rather unappreciated 'hit'. The waitstaff are very friendly, the mixed drinks are strong (with a lot of options), the atmosphere can be either cozy or boisterous depending on where you sit, and the food is served hot, fast, and tasty. Prices are reasonable, since the portions are really large. I could also drink their salsa by the gallon. This is a great family dining place or a place to go for a pick-me-up with friends after a long work week. They also do take-out, which is awesome.

Don’t waste your time

By Reviewer |

Wish I could give a zero. If you’re lucky you’ll get a mediocre experience here. Food is so so, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. We’ve tried it a few times and the service seemed to be getting increasingly worse each time. Today we had to search out our server to place a dinner order after our apps and to even get a second round of drinks. We asked for more water and the apparently were inconveniencing the server when doing so (he was sitting down in a booth with other workers just talking), because he brought over an entire pitcher and didn’t refill the glasses and just left the pitcher for us to refill and made some rude comment to my husband and told him “not to suffer” because now we had everything we needed. When he came back to the table later to give us our check- we were both so disgusted and hadn’t drank the water as we just wanted to eat and get out of there already annoyed we had spent our hard earned money here when we could have gotten better service at the chipotle across the street- he had the audacity to comment on the fact that we had not drank any of the water and laughed as he walked away. I’m not sure if he realizes his job is to take care of his customers needs? Needless to say this was our last time there and hopefully we can save you from wasting your time!

Veggie fajita was delicious!

By photographer_smurf72 |

I'm a vegetarian who often eats vegan so I asked the server for a recommendation. She said I should try the vegetarian fajitas. I was not disappointed! The sauce and mix of veggies was outstanding and I made two meals of it because the portions were so generous. Be sure to get the black beans! They, too, were deeeelicious!

After a disappointing trip to the Heathman, Mazatlan fixed EVERYTHING!

By Rachel L |

I also left a review for the restaurant at the Heathman hotel, which gives this review a little more context if it's needed. Short story: I pay for quality food and service, not an attitude. The Heathman very nearly ruined my birthday, and Mazatlan resuscitated it. I called ahead to ask if there was a wait, since it was the day after valentine's day. There wasn't, but I was hesitant, since I know we could very well be sacrificing atmosphere or quality for convenience. We were not disappointed. The food wasn't amazing, but it was really good, especially for such reasonable prices. My fajitas were well seasoned and our server was willing to make accommodations (I hate mushrooms and asked for extra peppers and onions instead, got way more food than I expected). The steak fajitas and had tender, juicy chunks of steak rather than the thin slices than mexican places usually use to cut costs. My boyfriend had the "special" steak tacos, and his steak was amazingly tender and very well seasoned. We both took home a lot of leftovers, which were equally delicious the next day. Our server was attentive and friendly, came to check on us often (but not too often), chatted with us, and when the meal was over, very kindly called us a cab as we were too tired to walk back to where we had originally parked (almost 40 blocks away, closer to the Heathman). The cab ride cost five bucks and our driver was also incredibly friendly and attentive, commiserated with us about the poor service at the Heathman, and agreed that Mazatlan was a bargain with good food and great service! Thanks, Mazatlan! You saved my birthday! I would recommend the strawberry margarita (best one I've ever had), although the guava, banana and kiwi margaritas were all lackluster. They're not exactly "margarita-ish" flavors, but it they were pretty tasty experiments. My fajitas were delicious, as was the steak in my boyfriend's tacos (not a euphemism, I swear). If you're sensitive to abrasive noises, watch out for karaoke night, although after a couple of margaritas, the amateur version of "Beinvenidos a Miami" by Will Smith was quite spectacular.

I couldn't stop eating

Wow the food was very good. The staff was always around to make sure I had anything i needed and was very friendly. I definitely recommend this place.

A Good Casual Mexican Restaurant

By Noah K |

Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant is tucked into a little pocket of SW Morrison, facing West Burnside, across from the Stadium Fred Meyer Store. It's in a good location being just a block away from Civic Stadium. The parking lot is a bit small and there is a short but steep hill to walk up to it - but I was able to find a parking spot there the two times I've eaten here. The building is on the South side of W Burnside, and depending on traffic it may be easier to approach when you are heading East on W Burnside. The building is an old Red Robin restaurant, which they have tried to redecorate into a Mexican theme. For dinner, they keep the place somewhat dark, perhaps adding a little atmosphere - it was not crowded at the dinner hour on this Friday. They have tables and booths, including some around a fireplace in the back - which was not lit when were there in February. We were seated right away and water, chips and salsa appeared quickly. You can check out their menu on their website, but it's pretty much standard fare, many combo dishes served with rice, beans, pico d gallo and guacamole. This last visit we had their special available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday - $11 Pork Carnitas. It was roasted pork sirloin and ribs, served in a combo platter. The meat was reasonably tender, although their didn't seem to be much seasoning to it. The rice and beans were fine. The meal included flour or corn tortillas, served warm. The amount of pork was large, we both took home about half of the meal in a to-go box. They did have some desserts offered, such as deep-fried ice cream, churos and a few others, but we were too full to attempt any on this trip Although I would not take people here to 'entertain' them, I certainly would not be opposed to going back the next time we are downtown and looking for a respectable Mexican restaurant. I'm guessing it would be a great place for a long lunch, and maybe for an inexpensive dinner when on a date. I'm sure we will visit this place again.

Mazatlan has been here for many years and is still a good, family friendly place.

By lindalindabm |

A friend and I went to Mazatlan for lunch earlier this week. I hadn't been here for about 14 years (I'm really not a Mexican food lover) but within 10 minutes of entering, I needed to use the bano and heard "Linda, como estas?". The manager recognized me after all that time, and you can be sure I'll be back. My friend had been coming over the years, and wanted Chorizo and eggs done the correct way for his lunch, and he was more than happy with what he got. Just right! I had a chicken burrito, again made the way Iike, no sauces, no chips, no salsa, just good meat, rice, black beans, queso and a flour tortilla. Also had a churro, again made the way I like - so know I'll be back again before too long. Places don't have to be new, or organic, or haute cuisine to be good. Sometimes, going back to where you've been happy in the past is a good place to go - renew friendships, enjoy food you remember. ENJOY!

Definitely recommend!

Welcoming staff. Super clean restaurant. Fabulous food - enchiladas! Excellent service! Definitely recommend!

Greatest Mexican Food

By Anayelle L |

Customer service was amazing. Server was really attentive and made great suggestions. The food was great. I suggest you come really hungry as the portions of the food are huge. Price paid is well worth it.my kids are not fans of Mexican food but we ate twice at this place on our trip.

Ahh-mazing

By TiffanyP15 |

We stopped at this unassuming restaurant on our walk and we were so pleased we did. The food here reminded me of growing up in Arizona being able to get authentic Mexican food any day if the week. The food here was clearly made in site from scratch. The service was fast and friendly and they have a great offering of various tequilas. Oh and to make things even better, the tab didn’t break the bank.

Great meal!

By NShah |

This casual place has great, hearty food. Perfect for huge portions and just some good quality filling food! Would definitely recommend

ice cold margaritas...yum!

By Denise S |

We were staying close to this restaurant so we decided to check it out. After walking all over downtown Portland we stopped in and had blended lime margaritas. Fantastic! Our server was friendly and quick to get our order in. We tried the Mazatlan natchos (made with chicken) as we were not that hungry, just peckish...they were to die for! If I am ever back in Portland I would go back.

Great Food and Service

By canyonland23 |

We've been to this restaurant twice the last two times we've been to Portland. The food and service is always good. I'm sure we'll be back again the next time we're in Portland.

Excellent Mexican food

By Leah D |

We are in Portland for the Vancouver Whitecaps game and tried this restaurant out as we were craving Mexican food and it was close by our hotel. It didn't look like much from the outside but as there were any people eating outside we thought we would give it a try. The food was fantastic. We were served fresh salsa with home made chips which were yummy. I ordered chicken fajitas and my dining partner had chicken enchiladas. Both meals were excellent. We both had the retried beans, which are vegetarian and very tasty. There was a large selection of beer. The price was mid range and this is a must eat at place if you are visiting Portland.

Uncertain open hours

By Brian J |

we went by today expecting lunch only to find out they don't open until 3:00PM. All the available websites list open hours starting at 11:00....NOT! If they want business they should tell all concerned parties when they change hours and what those hours are. Now we're shy about going back and we're going to tell our friends

NIce Fajitas

By Stuart_in_Chilterns |

Nice restaurant We had the steak fajitas and chicken fajitas Very friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately 5000 miles from where we live or we would be back every month. It was great value too
