Completely done! Could not even stop to take a before pic. Try the bacon dates... owner is friendly and it feels like home.

Friends and family alike still rave about the food and location. . Gamal closed the restaurant for our dinner and served food that all loved - even those who have never had middle-eastern food in their life. bacon wrapped dates, chicken "fingers", falafel, tabouli salad, baba ganouush, hummus, chicken kabobs, salmon, lemon potatoes, rice pilaf, fatouche salad, baklava, chocolate mousse cake and an open bar for sixty all at incredible prices. Whether for a party or a delicious quiet night out, Mazzat is the place.

This is a special restaurant. The food is delightful, well prepared and exquisitely tasty. Add to that the specialness of our server, Shah, who was welcoming, friendly and attentive, without being intrusive and our evening was made a very special one. I can heartily recommend the sliced marinated lamb, not to mention the lamb kebab cooked to perfection and the vegetarian main platter. Everything was a feast for the palate. I hope I’ll be back in Brooklyn soon to make another visit.

Good place for a snack with friends or appetizers and drinks. Friendly service moderate prices. Common choices.

Another visit to Brooklyn, another mandatory dinner at Mazzat. If you are a fan of Mediterranean cuisine then this is the place for you whether vegetarian or carnivore. Owner/chef gamal (aka- Jimmy) serves the tastiest in town. Mazzat has a full bar with a Happy Hour and tapas plates perfect for exploring new and tasty dishes. Our family returned the Friday before Christmas to share dinner of the vegetarian platter, tabouli, baba ganouj, garlic shrimp, crunchy Brussel sprouts, falafel, crispy cauliflower and a "new" vegetarian cigar that Gamal sent us to try (BTW- ---excellent). Mazzat is in a beautiful old brick building that is an off-the-beaten-path gem. Great for after work, dates, family meals and special events- Gamal/Jimmy will treat you right.

Very delicious food and friendly service. The best babaganoush I've ever eaten...the roasted eggplant has amazing flavor! (Better than Damascus, I dare say). The chef who is Egyptian always comes out to greet us and ensures that we are happy and content with our food. He recommended the lamb shank one evening...unbelievably tasty with interesting spices. My husband loves the rice that accompanies the dishes. Really flavorful... Looking forward to trying the other dishes!

My partner and I were staying at a great Brooklyn waterfront apartment, enjoying a NEW YORK week in the run up to the NYC Marathon One of our objectives was to sample some of the fun and funky restaurants and bistros that have popped up all over Brooklyn....MAZZAT was just down the street from us on Columbia Street and as we searched for a "comfort food" restaurant one evening we stopped to study the sandwich board on the sidewalk in front of the attractive storefront....the offerings looked quite tasty and affordable, so we decided to give it a try A very personable hostess greeted us and escorted us to a cozy booth just past the bar....she told us that the owners are Lebanese-Egyptian and the menu selections reflected their love of recipes from that corner of the World....we ordered a prix-fixe 3 course meal and enjoyed a wonderful Hummus appetizer, grilled Shrimp on a bed of rice, an amazing Lamb Shank and a delicious Schawarma entree, followed by yummy baklava and birds nest desserts The salads, the appetizers and the entrees all were mouthwatering, so we actually went back a second time to sample the Kebabs and Falafel offerings....a very pleasant and affordable wine list was on offer and there is a full bar, with seating, available as well The space was pleasant and quiet....regional music played on the stereo system, putting us in the appropriate time travel frame of mind MAZZAT seems to do a booming take out/home delivery service as well as the dine in option, perfect for the mix of young professionals and families that populate the Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn We look forward to visiting MAZZAT again in the future when we next visit Brooklyn

This is the best Mediterranean food I've had in NYC by far. Probably my favorite place to eat in Brooklyn.

This is our first time trying Mediterranean food. We chose Mazzat since we happened to be in the area. The server was really nice and we also got to chat with the chef since it wasn’t busy when we came (around 3 PM). I really liked the tahini sauce that came with pita bread as appetizers. We ordered vegetarian platter and lamb shank. Both were pretty good. The meat was well-cooked though the skin was a bit smelly. The platter was full of health stuffs such as hummus, falafel etc, which made you feel good to eat it.

I've passed by this place for years and never saw a crowd inside and that's always a red flag. When Petite Crevette had an hour wait for a table one night we were starving and decided to give it a shot. OMG, what a pleasant surprise! It's some of the best middle-eastern food I've had in Brooklyn. My basis for comparison is Tanoreen in Bay Ridge, rated by some as the best in the city. Since then I've probably eaten at Mazzat 20 times and can't think of anything they don't do very well. The felafel, humus, baba ganoush, the lamb, the pita... all excellent. When I mentioned to Robby, one of the owners, that the only thing I missed on their menu vs. Tanoreen's was sujuk, he added it the next week, and with his own spin. I usually just load up the table with appetizers and one entree like their mixed grill. They have a small wine list but they're excellent and reasonably priced. I learned the reason why the place is so empty. It's not a restaurant destination neighborhood. There's hardly any sidewalk traffic on that stretch of Coumbia Street. But they do a huge takeout business with loyal locals. Too bad, they're missing the friendly service of Robby, Jimmy and the waitstaff.

Great food, attentive & friendly staff. Would definitely come back. The lamb shank was to die for. Get the baklava & specialty drink

We showed up at this restaurant by chance, and am I happy we did. We had our kids with us who can be picky with food. Surprisingly, both loved what they ordered. A vegetarian platter, the lamb shank and the shish kebab. I had the cheese, olives, fatoush and the amazing kibe. I also like the open kitchen, clean, and quiet. Great place to chat and be able to chat. Will definitely come back again!

Mazzat is an amazing restaurant, the grill chicken is to die for. The owner Jimmy goes above and beyond to make sure his customers are please. You can clearly taste the authenticity and the care that went into preparing each dish.

Visiting Brooklyn with a friend.. first food find, nailed it!!! Tasty, reasonable prices and super friendly 😆

I've been going to Mazzat for more than a year whenever my work takes me to thier neighborhood. I recently took my 12 year old son with me after a trip to Ikea and I've never seen him as excited about food as he was at Mazzat. He loved his falafel and my chicken kabob with rice that we had to get another order of each to take home that day. Now, three weeks later he tells me that he had his mom (my ex) take him there this weekend with her boyfriend and his kids and they all loved it as well. He then asked if we can go back this weekend. We just can't get enough of of their delicious food.

We Met my son for brunch this past Sunday. We were greeted by the very gracious Jay who made wonderful suggestions. He told us about the lamb stew..."even if you think that you don't like lamb." Boy was he right. I had the lamb shank and absolutely loved it. Dessert? We loved the vanilla ice cream on phyllo pastry with banana flambe and DON'T forget a cup of turkish coffee.

I had dinner at Mazzat not too long ago and it was delightful. The easy going waiters were attentive without being all over you, and the food was delicious. It's clearly well loved by locals, and totally pleasant to sit out on a lazy sidewalk in a less trafficked part of town. Also quite romantic under the right circumstances.

A complete empty restaurant on a saturday evening says more than reviews. The food was not really good, the meat of the mixed grill was burned and the wine tasted cheap. Not really the place to be.

I keep returning to Mazzat when I visit a friend in the neighborhood. I love Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern fare and Mazzat is quiet, rustic, unpretentious and congenial with fresh and delicious options. I often order a variety of appetizers for my meal because all the standard are so well prepared. But for a heartier appetite, the lamb shank is the best I’ve had. The meats falls off the bone and the sauce is rich and aromatic.

We went with friends for an early dinner-- good quantity and quality for the price. On a Sunday evening, it was deserted though-- only one other family in the place, couple of people at the bar. Very quiet suburban section of Brooklyn. So i'm not sure why the service was soooooo slow. The appetizer hummus /olives/baba ganoush plate was a great starter, and the falafel sandwich was just right.

A very chill and friendly neighborhood spot we enjoy very much. Sadly, we tell ourselves, we’ve come in about five times in the 17 years they’ve been open. The food is not overly spicy but aromatic and the chef/owner has a subtle hand with flavors. We like super spicy, full bodied (mostly SE Asian) but the Alexandria-style Egyptian taste here is super good and so we have, like now, asked ourselves why we don’t just dine here exclusively. In our neighborhood and wondering when we’ll come back. Soon we tell ourselves.

Terrific food, great wine, hookah and authentic ambiance and cuisine with a French twist since the owners are Egyptian and Lebanese. They have a $28 price fixe and many choices, especially mezze(tapas). My favorite is the lamb shank but I've enjoyed everything I've had.

Was in Brooklyn for the World Bread USA. 5 of us had dinner here on our last night in NY. Great friendly welcome with a smile. We shared a selection of tapas and mezzes. All extremely delicious and accompanied with hot flat breads. My favourite had to be the dates and Camembert wrapped in bacon ... very, very ‘moreish’! Followed this with the Cassoulet - thick and glutinous, tender meat, soft butter beans with a touch of cinnamon ... again delicious. Would I go back again - yes Would I recommend others to visit Mazzat - big resounding yes

Excellent! We absolutely love the spicy hummus as well as the babaganouj for appetizers...and the pita bread was never-ending. Additionally, my teenagers had the grilled chicken and the chicken cigars...highly recommend. Lastly, very lovely and accommodating staff.
amazing food in a great authentic place
This is a very special hidden gem Mediterranean restaurant in Red Hook, Brooklyn, worth making the trip. Very good food, you can taste the care that they put into it. Beautiful decor, intimate, good vibes, very reasonable prices. Grass fed lamb and organic chicken and eggs. That shows that they really care about quality.
